Kn6gtn wp6axm receiver. Kn6gtn Ko6bgy how you doing? Foggy and cold over here in Calusa. Well, that sounds like it's kind of widespread. It's. It's cloud. It's foggy and cold. And banger, too, if I remember correctly. You guys have more than we do because you have elevation, so that might be hindering things, but overall, a good night. I mean, I still got the windows open trying to say get some fresh air in the house, but I don't know. I mean, I've always thrown an extra layer on. I throw the heater on at night when I need to, but during the night, it's like, not that cold in the house, probably.
Outside for most of the day. So anyway, hopefully you had a good part of your day. Oh yeah, Day went well. But yeah, I've been surprised how high this fog goes up. So my customers live up in the Berry Creek area and up towards Forbestown. They have to go up the hill quite a ways to get above the fog. Even in paradise during the day today, the sun was shining up there, but as soon as evening rolled around, the fog moved in there too. I'm just kind of. Given the last couple years, this is the coldest it's been in Calusa consistently for a while now. I mean, usually the last couple of years we've been up in the high 40s or low 50s and we.
Been lucky to break out of the mid to high 40s. I mean, I'm not complaining. I mean, it's comfortable compared to the heat as far as I'm concerned. But yeah, it's just maybe we're in for one of those winters, I guess. Yeah, I know. Okay. It's been. It's been a number of years. I mean, a lot of years. Even some of the old timers around here are. Are saying they don't remember when it's been like this. So, yeah, it's a little different year for us, but I guess we had it coming. We had a beautiful summer. So looks like this is what, this is the result of that maybe. Yeah, absolutely. As far as summer went, yeah, we had hot days. But there was a couple years back, I mean, I'm only 37 going on 38, but there was a couple summers back not too long ago that it felt like it was consistently 100 plus 100 plus 100 plus for months.
And into the early to late fall as well, so this is a welcome sight. Now, if we can just get the rain. I can't speak for you, but we haven't had much rain. We've had a decent amount so far, but nowhere near what I thought we would have. But then again, I mean, I can remember back to the flood of 97, and that was once in a lot of time for me, and it's nowhere near as bad as the one that hit during the 50s or 60s. I think it was in this area that was a mess on Christmas Day, from what I recall from history. Yeah, I don't know about that, the earlier flood, but I do remember the 96 or New Year's Day. 97, the great flood of 97. We were living up in Portola at that time and it was nasty. Yeah, I'll never forget. That was quite an event.
But yeah we had some nice rain early on and I figured we're going to have a nice wet winter but it's wet alright it's just damp but we haven't had a lot of rain since no we have not I've actually been surprised as well I mean as much moisture as is on the ground enough to make it look like it rained with like the asphalt or the road whatever but no there's no frosted windows it hasn't gotten that cold but it's definitely I think we're due for some rain in my opinion we haven't like you said we got a good start at it but I've looked and looked and I haven't seen I'll see like a 2 or 3% chance you're just counting for the ground clouds that you're seeing out there but I picked up a couple of foul bang uv5r minis and they actually have the program they're already programmed for the weather station and they've been proven pretty well.
These little radios. So do they have the NOAA weather radio stations programmed in them, too? That, that's pretty neat. Yeah, they do. I want to say it's one through 10 or one through 11, I can't remember. I want to say it's one through 10. And for this area, we get one. So I think it's I forget something, something 520-or-5550 or something like that. And they also apparently, I I mean, I live in Calusa, so we don't we do have an airport, but it's not very active. But apparently they receive AM bands, so you could, in theory, be near or have a good enough antenna to where you could get some actual ATC stuff. I mean, I haven't seen too many radios that'll do that. Yeah, those weather stations, when we lived in the Midwest, where we had.
Lot of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. That was something we lived by. I mean, we made sure we had those weather monitors and weather stations close by where we could, you know, always figure out what's going on. But since I'm out here, I don't use them as much. But I. I should start programming more of those in just so we could listen in on the weather if we wanted to. That was. That was pretty neat. You could, you know, have real time or almost real time information from the National Weather Service.
Kn6gtm.
You still out there, KO6BTY? Yeah, still here. You went radio silent there for a little while. My apologies. I was on one of those new radios and it didn't have a charge and this one's on a low charge as well, so I'll make it short. But those little radios are pretty decent. I got good signal reports from inside the house with the stock. I haven't been able to do that yet with a stock robber duck. So I think I have some pretty good emergency go radio. I accidentally ordered a set of four. I ordered a set of two, but I accidentally ordered two sets of two. So I gave one away for Christmas and might donate one to a local club here. I don't have any reason, but it's right here. And you get out there. I'll go ahead and sign clear on your final Ko6gy from Calusa, California, where it's not.
Nice and foggy, even in town. Kind of nice.
Listening on the side out there somewhere. How are you, David? Doing just fine. When are you gonna start picking? Not your nose. Those things. The little orange things on the tree. I was thinking about you yesterday. I said, one of these days, David's gonna be asking about those oranges. Today's the day I was getting. I've been meaning to do it for the last week and a half. Well, to answer the question, they're hanging thick out there, and we haven't started picking yet. This is kind of miserable weather to pick. I'd say within a week or two, we'll be having those bags full. And they are starting getting to sweeten up now, huh? That they are. They. They were checking the. They have a little meter to check them with to see what's.
The sugar content is or something. But, yeah, they were doing that over the weekend. And I'll tell you, there's. There's some of them bricking right up there with the best. I mean, they were actually a little sweeter than last year. WPAXM repeater. Good. Because I'm starting to get a hunger for them. You let me know when. When I get ready and I'll take a drive up that away. Very good. I'll make sure I do that. I was thinking about you, so. Yeah, we'll make sure that happens. We're looking forward to it. Yeah, I just really enjoyed them the last couple years, and I'm looking forward to it again. Yeah. Very good. We really enjoy them, too. So you've been out playing Frisbee with your dog in this class.
Cloudy, dreary weather. No, no, it's been too cold out there. I don't like it when it's cold and neither does my dog. So we stay in the house and kind of throw the ball around or the frisbee around the house a little bit, wherever we can throw it. And she'll chase it. But no, we're not getting the exercise we need to be getting, either one of us. Sounds to me like you're both boiled rotten. Gets a little better weather. We'll get back out here and get started at it again. Yeah, it's been pretty cold down here. It just seems like even in the house with the heater on, it's still. Still been cold on the back. Yes, it sure has.
That's amazing. Even like I was saying earlier to Paul there, even some of our old timers up here are whining about they haven't seen it like this in a long, long time. I know I haven't. It seems like it could get cooled off and just all of a sudden it started getting cold. We had nice weather, beautiful weather for nice summer and then, boy, just all of a sudden it got cold and that came to a shocker to me. Exactly. Yeah, that made it a little worse. We had a beautiful summer, beautiful fall, just on and on. But all of a sudden, like you said, all of a sudden it was. This is a different story. I'm hoping here in a day or two we'll at least get a day or two break the way it the forecast is. But as foggy as it is up here tonight, I don't have a lot of confidence.
Got that right. What are you doing running around so late this evening? Is this church night or what? No, I. I've got to run into town and drop a couple quarters in the slot there at the bank. Get. Get rid of my loot. There you go. Yeah, I heard you say drop a couple quarters into the bank. I was thinking maybe the casino, but no. You met the real bank, huh? Wouldn't that be something if you'd start calling a casino a bank? A lot of people invest in that, wouldn't they? Got a sister in law that when she lived in Oroville, she invested in on senior day in senior morning. And she always did pretty good. It worked out like a bank to her. She was just a lucky girl.
And I've got a customer that same way she can. She does pretty good when she goes in there. At least according to the reports I hear, anyhow. So. Yeah, there might be a way to work that. I don't know. She. She never. I don't know that she ever lost. Boy, she'd take their money and spend their. She wouldn't spend her money. She'd spe. Spend their money. And she would always come home with a pocket full of money. I mean, a pocket. I mean, she had enough to last her for another week. Oh, something's going on in there. We're getting some feedback or something in there. Do. Do that again there. Ernie. Yeah? You've been covered up a couple times.
Too, by something. But I was saying not a lot of people have that kind of success in that environment. Know what that was? It was something in there cutting through the fog, I guess. Yeah. And it's a pretty strong signal. It pretty well covers up the repeater. I'm not for sure what's going on. It certainly was different. I wasn't getting full words out of it, but I was getting that kind of stuff. Information only. K was 682. Why? There was a lot of static there as well. Not sure what happened.
Well, I'm getting into town here and the fog's pretty thick. I better pay attention to what's going on. Good chatting with everyone. Good to hear you out there, David. And I'll let you know when those. When I'm ready to have you come up here. So you have A Good evening, KN6GTN73S. Okay. And don't rely on the radio to get a hold of me. You got my number. Okay, Arnie 73. Talk at you later. WA1ner. David. Yuba City, and I'll be clear. Standing by. Wa1ner.ko6vgy. No need for a return call. Just good to hear you out there, David. We're fogged in, too. Kind of enjoying it, though. It's nice and cool and I'm not sweating my tail off. So. Anyway, I'll say 7 3. I'm gonna get back to my movie. Ko6bty. Thanks for jumping in there, Paul. Okay, Good hearing.
You there. 73 wa180r and I'll be clear. While I got the radio here, I'm going to go ahead and throw a call out for matthew kn6wnr. Ko6 means ui calling kn out there, matthew. I'll take that as a no. Ko6bgy. I'll be clear.
Good evening. This is Patrick Kn6rth in Browns Valley. And I have a manual transfer switch, a plug I wired on the outside of the house. It's all done really nice. And I just run a cable to my 9,000 watt generator, and I run it on propane, but it'll do either gas or propane. Radios are on baino batteries, and we can run everything in the house. Ko6BGY coffee. So you guys off grid or power down? Like powers out, or you're just testing your equipment to see what the capacity is?
All right. Just confirming that there was a test station out there. You're making it loud and clear, K06 easy Y all be clear. W e6a x n repeater.
W6T&H, this is K6KDS, do you copy? Yeah, Carla, go ahead. W6T&H. Hey. So I thought I'd just give you a shout out. I just finished up with the concert and got in my car, and it seems like my temperature gauge is stuck on 44. It's been that way for days. Yeah, it seems like it's just stuck there. Maybe we ought to thump it and see if it warms up. Yeah, actually, I'm enjoying it. I don't mind this cold weather, but anyway, had a good concert tonight. It was packed. It was a packed crowd and. Yeah, it was. It was really busy, though, let me tell you. I look forward to hearing all about it. Yeah, we'll have to do that over dinner.
Oh, dinner. Yes. Yes, that sounds good. Hey, I was going to ask you, how's FT8 going? It's really good. Are you on 20 or are you on 80? I'm on 80 right now. Awesome. I can't wait. All right, I will let you go for now. And I will see you soon. This is K6KVS. Clear. All right, well, thanks for the call. W6P and H. Clear. W e6a x n repeater.
