Speaker A: 6dzb, kn6wnr.
Speaker B: Well, there's a voice I haven't heard very much of lately.
Speaker A: What's up? I'm mostly on hf. I sometimes come on the repeater on like five times, but I've been super busy with work. I generally can't check into the net because. Because on like Mondays at around that time frame, I'm actually working. So that's probably why you haven't heard from me. How you been, Chris?
Speaker B: Oh, I've been pretty good. I'm. I'm counting down until retirement, actually. That's how I'm doing
Speaker A: now. You were talking about it a while back. I haven't been able to go to club meetings or even go to the Christmas party because I was working that time frame. It's been really rough. I still gotta put in my club dues and all that still. Yeah, I've been active in radio, just not on vhf.
Speaker B: That's okay. You know, you got your schedule, you can. You do what you can do.
Speaker A: And, you know, I'm glad to hear
Speaker B: that you're doing an hf. I don't get an awful lot of opportunity to do that myself, so, you know, that's, that's cool.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: So looking forward to the. The end of March is when. When my resignation takes effect and. And then I don't know, maybe I can do more HF myself.
Speaker A: It's awesome that you're finally retiring and all that, you know, it gives you some more free time. That's awesome. You know, I'm working over at Target. I don't think I ever told you that. And I work nights most of the time. Very rarely do I open. So my HF time is pretty much like daytime operation or night. On my days off, I generally not on VHF at all anymore. Sometimes I'll throw my callsign out on the repeater when I'm mobile like I am right now. But I'm just really not on 2 meters anymore. I might get on to 6 meters at some point, like doing 6 meter single sideband or maybe even getting into 2 meter single sideband. But I've been mostly just an HF operator. I love it. Morse code and single sideband on HF is what I do.
Speaker B: Oh, so you, you got into Morris, did you? I was. I wanted to do that and I took a class on it. And then I never had the time to sit there and practice it so that, you know, I just never gained the skill. I'd have to go start all over again.
Speaker A: You occasionally hear me throw a CQ call on 40 meters on CW. I mean, just scan up and down the band when you retire or if you get on H op before then and just look for my, you know, my CQ call. If you want to practice CW with me, you're more than welcome to. I mean, I'll go super slow for you. KN6W and R Freddie.
Speaker B: So my next thing, actually, I think once I retire and I have some extra time, I'm going to try and knock out the ext.
Speaker C: Been at it for almost 70 years and it's terrific. Glad to hear you're in it, Chris. Good evening to you too, ki6hk.
Speaker B: And a good evening to you too, Chuck. Nice to hear you out there. Yeah, I was saying that once, once I do retire, I think I might actually try chasing the extra and get
Speaker A: that out of the way. Yeah, I was supposed to get it on Saturday, but guess what I did again, you overslept. Yes, I did. I don't know why that keeps on happening. I was planning on taking it. I just don't. I missed my alarm. I missed two alarms. Actually, I was super tired from the night you. When I closed that, I slept through two alarms and I ended up waking up towards like noon.
Speaker B: Well, you know, I know how that is. I'll wake up at 6:30 on a Saturday morning and look and say I don't have to go to work and then go back to sleep and the next thing I know it's 9:30.
Speaker A: Either something came up, I had work, or I overslept. And that's been like that for like two years. I've been trying to get extra. Oh no, but I really want it. I've been studying for it for forever. I mean, to the point where the test bank changed and Yeah, I mean, I need to get it. I need to do something about it because I want to work the lower parts of the HF band where all the DX is.
Speaker B: Yes, yes. Well, what you need to do is give the testing team, give Paul your phone number and tell them that if you don't show up at the next test session to call you.
Speaker A: Yes, that's the only way it's gonna work. So in March, I, I am going to get my extra one way or another. But promise. I keep on saying that. I've been saying it like right before every test date, like, oh, I'm gonna get it. I'm gonna get it. And I never do. I'm like. But I've been studying for it for like two years. Oh, well, I'm not perfect.
Speaker B: I don't know. This is. Well, alright. I just pulled into the driveway. I'm gonna go check the mail and get inside. I've got net control for this month so I got to get ready for that. So nice to hear you out there and hope to hear you again. So. And Chuck, nice to hear you out there too and hopefully I'll get to talk to both of you fairly soon. 73 KK6ZD clear.
Speaker A: Have a great rest of your night. Check me in super early because I'm not going to be able to get into the net and yeah, Chuck, if you're still out there, I got a few more minutes. KN6WNR.
Speaker C: Yeah, they all went away.
Speaker A: Pete, you're there.
Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. Hey. IWh. How you doing man? Hey. Oh, I'm okay.
Speaker B: How are you?
Speaker A: Well, I'm currently driving to work in whatever kind of weather we should call this. Just extremely wet. Yuba City's practically half flooded, it seems like. I could imagine Chico is probably not much better. How is it over there? WP6AX.
Speaker C: It's wet. I have heard of some flooding. You know, I was kind of wishing the GMRS guys would get on and start announcing, you know, the flooding. There's a machine in Orville where they report, you know, fire, whatever, you know, the damage, all like that. But I haven't heard them lately, so. Got to tell you though, one time I was going across Bridge street and I've never seen so much water in my entire life other than the ocean. This massive, huge river just pouring down out of the mountains. Oh my God.
Speaker A: And yeah, at that point it's just. Don't even, don't even go near that. Just stay away from it. Just stay home. Yeah. KN6W hour Friday, back to you beach.
Speaker C: And other than that, I'm building a model. I know, I know I'm a kid, but I make dioramas. Usually World War II, you know, half track and a little scene makes me happy. But I'm working on a CB750 from 1985. The model stick. Whoopee.
Speaker A: That sounds like fun.
Speaker B: That's cool.
Speaker A: Yeah. Well, I've finally gotten to my place of work, but I don't start work for another half of an hour. So you still have me for a little while.
Speaker C: Hey, you know, one time I had an injury on the job, but it was not during my work hour. I came in early, I was, you know, helping out, being a nice guy. And whatever got hurt, they wouldn't pay.
Speaker A: Yeah, typically what happens. Yeah, wow, it's only 5:31. I start work at 6.
Speaker C: Well, what do you do about dinner? Do you eat first or are you going to eat later tonight or how does that work?
Speaker A: I eat before and after. Would they give you a dinner break tonight? My shift is so short, I actually don't get a lunch break. It's just a 15 minute break. So I'm going to eat something small, my 15 too. So there's that. And I'm going to be outside this almost this entire time too. So I would say about half of my ship's going to be in this rain and then the other half will be inside the building. But I'll know when I get in there what it's going to be like. Yeah, so it's wet out. Not looking forward to being out in it. I got to do what I got to do the shelves only like a 10 until I find something else better.
Speaker C: But we'll see. Hey, I knew a guy, he was the nighttime janitor at Diablo Valley College. He actually got kind of a degree, you know, four year degree graduate. He didn't leave that job. He said no way since great, it's good moving, good money
Speaker B: and then he
Speaker C: has times he can finish up early and he sits around and you know, reads books and doodle, doodle around. He was happy.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's just I feel that and I understand what you're saying. I just, me personally, I feel that I want to get out of retail just in general, period. I mean, as far as it can be sometimes. And as many people that I've came to know from working this job, you know, just regular customers, you know, people that I work with, I mean, yeah, there's plus sides to it. It's just exhausting. It's not only exhausting and also I just want something that pays more to the point where I can actually move out of my parents house because I had to move back in. I was doing sales for a while and I ended up getting laid off from that sales job unfortunately. And I was almost getting to the point where I saved up enough and I was making enough every month that I could actually move out of my parents house. It's kind of hard, especially as a single guy such as myself to actually be able to afford the rent in the area with a single source of income. But I was making enough with that income. I could actually do it, albeit it wouldn't be as, you know, I could live on my own, but it wouldn't, you know, I wouldn't have like a, like an enormous amount of money left over every month. But I. It was sustainable. I was. I was able to do that. But right before I was actually gonna move out, you know, I ended up getting laid off. And that was kind of hard for me to mentally get over that. It was kind of depressing. So I was actually unemployed for a little bit. I was working at Buffalo Wild Wings for a little bit. Then I got the job at Target, and I was working two jobs. Then I left the Buffalo Wild Wings, currently still working at Target. And I'm actively looking for a second job, if not a better job overall, that I can do one job full time. So that's basically my life in a nutshell right now.
Speaker C: Doing great. You know, I always wanted a job that I loved and wanted to go to work and just felt good about. Never happened, really. I've always kind of had to trade some kind of pain for money. Either agony of lifting boxes or the agony of putting up with people. Hello, baby Holt.
Speaker A: Yeah, and honestly, I could pretty much say the same to some degree. I mean, it's like it was a mixed bag when I was working at Sam's club. I mean, I met a lot of people and I became friends with a lot more people, and it really opened my eyes. And, you know, I got that job when I was in my really early twenties. So I actually kind of needed that because it helped me with my own personal development. But it was just exhausting work. So a mixed bag. I mean, I'm not going to say anything bad about it. It's just. There's that. And then I left Sam and I did sales for a little over a year. And that taught me a lot. It taught me a lot. Given about human nature, even more than I already knew. Just going door to door selling Internet. I mean, I saw a lot of
Speaker C: different
Speaker A: personality types that I didn't really encounter as much out in public. You know, just working retail because you're basically knocking everybody's door, end up inadvertently meeting everybody in town at some point. That was interesting. I was actually pretty good at it. And I'm scratching my head as to why they weighed me off, but the department as a whole really wasn't doing very good. So even though I was, like, still bringing in the most sales, that's the whole thing, so make it make sense. And then dealing with the depression that comes from being laid off from a job that I felt I was giving maximum effort. I was giving maximum effort, and it was really kind of hurting my mental health in a way. So it was A good job. But it was also really not great on my mental health and it made it worse after I left. Well, was laid off and then working this retail job. So basically all in all, my 2025 is just like. Probably should have emphasized more of my mental health than anything else. And I of neglected it a bit for money. Looking at it overall,
Speaker C: Have you ever thought about opening your own business or starting a business? And I can't tell you what, if I do, I'd be rich. Also
Speaker A: had one that was a while back when I was working at Sam's club. I also opened up a photography business. I went to this, you know, I got the licensing and all that and I let that expire and I was very unsuccessful with it, to be honest. And I know why. And something that I learned from doing sales, I also basically learned how to market myself in doing so had I had that knowledge that I gained from doing a sales job when I was doing photography, I probably would have been a lot better off with it. I just didn't know what I was doing. So that was a mistake I made. And will I ever reopen that again? Maybe. There's always a chance, especially this year, it's a new year, I might open it back up. But then I realized I look at the market, photography and it's probably the worst it's ever been ever because of AI and because everybody thinking they're a photographer because they have a phone in their hand as a camera. Everybody's got cameras. The only way that I could probably make money in this overly saturated photography market because there's a lot of dedicated
Speaker B: photographers in the ether area is if
Speaker A: I did black and white, 35 millimeter or medium format film that I developed myself because people, there's a niche group of people that actually still kind of dig that. Problem is with that is the people that dig that are doing it themselves. I don't know. I guess I'm just gonna have to abandon the whole photography idea as a business and just keep it as a hobby. W E6A X N repeater well, how
Speaker C: about if your work is so good you're beyond everybody else, people look at your stuff and go, oh my God, God, is that good or what?
Speaker A: That's the other issue. I mean my photography is okay. I'm better at macro photography and landscape photography than I am with people simply because of the fact that I haven't done portrait photography as much as I probably should have prior to starting the business. I've done it a bit. I had some clientele but I really had no business at all, actually starting that business with as much experience I had beforehand. I was just trying to do something. What I should have probably done is gained some sales and marketing experience and probably was a photographer's assistant.

Speaker A: First, looking back at it and KN6WNR IV back to you, please.
Speaker B: Hey.
Speaker A: Well, you're learning.
Speaker B: That's a good sign. You know, it kind of sounds like you beat yourself up a little bit here with these, you know, things that don't work out and all of a sudden you're a bad person. You know, I do that with my guitar playing. You know, my dad was a music teacher and I feel guilty if I don't practice at least an hour. And you look at really good guitar players and you go, oh, shit. You know, But I love guitar. Love the sound. Makes me happy.
Speaker A: I've been basically beating myself up for about three decades. So, yeah, you are not wrong on that.
Speaker B: It's just.
Speaker A: I'm just trying to find a way in my life and I haven't really been. And I'm not gonna blame anybody else. I haven't found what I would quote, unquote call my purpose, my calling yet with regards to a career, when I probably should have at this point. I did go to Yuba College. I got my degree in computer science. I probably should have got my bachelor's in that. But when I got my associates, I saw the writing on the wall. I saw this whole AI takeover actually going to actually take place because my pattern recognition was like perfect at that moment in time. And also because of the jobs were just being flooded because of COVID because I got my free back. I'm class of 2019. That's basically when Covid happened. I was applying for jobs back then, but they were just not there. So I just took a pause on it because I knew what was coming. I saw it five years ago, pretty much advanced that what we are seeing today was going to eventually happen way before pretty much anybody saw it coming. Because, I mean, I was very familiar with AI. I mean, I can even make my own AI. I know. I know how to. You know, I'm pretty good at Python and bunch of different other programming languages. I mean, I. I learned about neural networks and stuff like that. I was in college and stuff. I. My gut was telling me that they're going to come up with an LLM chatgpt at some point and that thing's going to become so advanced that it's going to literally take away programming jobs. I saw that coming. I knew it was going to happen. I didn't talk about it. I just had strongest punch that that was going to happen because.
Speaker B: Because
Speaker A: every single corporation is going to look at that, they're going to be like, wow, that's one Way to minimize expenditure and maximize profit and minimize the amount of time it takes to develop a product. Sounds like a good idea. I saw that happening, and that's what we're seeing. And I don't see it going away anytime soon. So what I need to do is not be a victim about it. I need to actually look for a better career path, something that I am passionate about, that I can see myself doing as a career.
Speaker B: Now you're talking. You know, I was really. I always wanted a job. Get up in the morning, ladies meet the day man. I'm gonna go out there, you know, take care of business. But usually it was, oh, my God,
Speaker A: I understand. And I mean, it's hard for my whole generation right now. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the number of people I've talked about to talk to this week that are in the same boat. I mean, even people in my grad class that I still talk to, Beth and O's at, you know, for college, a lot of them are struggling.
Speaker C: There's been a few that have actually
Speaker A: made it all the way to getting a tech job out in, like, Sacramento, Fulton, what have you, but not very many, to be honest. A lot of them didn't do anything with their degree and are just doing odd jobs and stuff. Not in their career path. It happens. I don't know what to say. Anything. I mean, I don't know. I don't know how to actually go about fixing that. I mean, I've been looking at that for years, like, okay, what am I going to do? And they're in the same boat.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, plus, the economy is not making things any easier, you know, if you want to try to do something you love and make money. But usually the ones who are outstanding in their field are the ones where people go to kids. Wow. And it takes practice. I'm thinking of guitar players mostly because I play. I mean, been at it for years, and. And, you know, I turn it on, crank it up, and I'm depressed. Oh, God, look at Stevie Ray Vaughan and, you know, all these guys playing blues licks. And then. Look what you're doing, Pete. I'm going. Okay, well, I guess I'll keep practicing until, you know, I either die or break the guitar.
Speaker A: At least you're finding joy in practicing, too. That's what matters. At the end of the day, it's not so much about you versus them. You know, are you happy what you're doing? I could confidently say where I am at right now and what I am Doing right now, I am not happy. I'm not happy at all. Good evening, WD60. Hey Dave. Vt 6xm kn6wnr.
Speaker B: Well, I get happy. I write songs. She's ugly but she Loves Me. That's my favorite. But I'm just writing one called Everybody Tells Me how to Live. That's a rib. You know,
Speaker C: Everybody Tells Me how to
Speaker B: Live and I actually record this stuff. I think my voice is terrible, but you don't know what other people see. But I'm having a good time.
Speaker C: No, sorry about that.
Speaker B: I walked out in the.
Speaker C: Had something else come up on me.
Speaker A: Good evening, guys.
Speaker C: WD6AXM.
Speaker B: Yeah, hi, David.
Speaker A: Hey, I haven't talked to you in a while. How you been? Everything going good?
Speaker C: Well, still managing to stay above water and tried the water out here, but yeah, pretty good so far and slowed down a little bit.
Speaker A: Oh, is it like flooding over there? It was kind of flooding down my street too, actually. There's like, the street's like half flooded.
Speaker C: The ground's pretty well saturated and there's some spots that are puddling pooling here. It's been raining all day.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm just out in the Target parking lot right now and it's coming down pretty hard right at the moment right where I'm at. It's actually somewhat flooding over here right now. We six A X N repeater.
Speaker C: They got a four car accident out there on Highway 20 at Farmland near Meridian. Let's see. Yeah, I got 10 minutes before the net goes, but anyway, so yeah, we're staying and out of trouble here, at least trying to. How about you, Paul?
Speaker A: Oh, that's not good. But I would imagine because of the limited visibility from heavy rainfall hitting wind chills, that that can happen. Very unfortunate. Hopefully everybody's okay over there. Yeah, I could definitely see that happening. Coming down really hard right now over here. KN6WNR. Freddy.
Speaker C: Okay, I better drop off here. It's got other things here. All right, you guys have A Good evening. WD6AX input.
Speaker A: Hopefully you guys have a great rest of your evening. I'm going to go ahead and side right now while I still can and go clock in for work. This is KN6WNR7 3 for now, both here.

Speaker A: K6kds.w6pnh.
Speaker B: Yes, this is K6 KDS, Carla.
Speaker A: All right, well, that sounds good to me. So I think your system's working just great.
Speaker B: Thank you for mike check. This is K6KBS, clear and standing by for the meeting.
Speaker A: You might want to try that again. Either somebody was doubling with you or you were real staticky there.
Speaker C: Good evening, WD6AXM. They've got a little bit of power line arcing going on up there on the site.
Speaker A: Oh, okay. Yeah. So are we okay for the net tonight or at least for trying?
Speaker C: Yeah, it seems to be intermittent coming and going, but so, you know, some of the HTs and stuff may have a little trouble getting in from time to time, but should be able to go ahead and do the net.
Speaker A: All right, well, that sounds good. Thanks, Dave. Appreciate the. The help.
Speaker C: No problem. Good evening, Carl.
Speaker B: Thanks, Dave. 73 to you.
Speaker C: Yes, Dave, thank you. You're welcome. WT6AXM, how you doing this evening, Paul?
Speaker A: Oh, come back. I missed that last part, but I heard.
Speaker C: Paul, just. How you doing?
Speaker A: Doing well. Yeah, things are going good. Just keeping busy for sure.
Speaker C: Yeah, we're trying to. Slowly but surely cleaning out the workbench and stuff.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, yeah, it takes me. When I try and work on my workbench or anything in the garage, it seems like it's awfully slow going.
Speaker C: Yeah, I got all the Christmas decorations packed up and put away, so that opened up some of the floor space, but other than that, not a whole lot exciting going on.
Speaker A: Yeah, I've been dreaming up on that little Doppler antenna. When I. When I get that back within reach, I was thinking about just making a stand where I could put it up, you know, maybe either remotely or any place I wanted to set up and try it out. So that's one idea that's kind of been on my mind, and I still just have to. I'm looking for a little bit of good weather to get on that.
Speaker B: Yeah, okay.
Speaker C: Yeah, there's some flexibility in there.
Speaker A: Yeah, I also. Yeah, I kind of recognize the value of having that thing running all the time, too. So I'll have fun playing with that and get it settled somewhere. But I do appreciate that even though it's taken a while to get anything going with it, anybody that has anything before than that, I'll let them get that going. But good talking to you, and I'll be clear for now. W6T and H.
Speaker C: Very good, sir. Well, I'm sorry it only took a couple of three years for me to get it to get the thing up and going the first time. But I was working with the guy that was built that was producing the stuff, so kind of helping him with developing some of the softwares and some of the other things. All right, so I guess pretty close to that time or something here, but alrighty, have a good evening. Who else was there? WD6AXM besides Carla. Alpha, Kilo 6, Juliet November. Juliet November. Good evening. Good evening. This is Paul. I'll let you know that. Yeah, you're coming in very, very clear. Carla does still have a little bit of bacon frying, but I hear you just fine. And Dave. Yeah. You've got a little bit of background noise as well. Yeah, I'm on hd so it's not uncommon for it when it gets. They've got. Probably got a wet pole or something. Wet or bad insulator or something. We'll see how it goes during the net. And may have to end up notifying PG&E or the site folks if it continues. Copy. Well, it's not completely unreadable.
Speaker A: It's just a little bit. A little bit of noise.
Speaker C: Yeah. Well, it must be pretty significant if it's taking me because I'm sitting down here in Sutter. But like say I'm on HT inside the house too.
Speaker A: Yeah. I'll give a little feedback here if I'm not doubling. Go ahead. Yeah, yeah, Dave, I, you know, I hear just a very slight flight noise. With you I probably wouldn't even notice it. But with Carla I was hearing a little bit more. And so we'll check that out. Have her use a different system tonight and we'll check it out because it just seemed blank. I don't know if there's loose mic cord or something, but a lot of noise after she got going. Right. At first I thought it was clear and then just quite a bit.
Speaker C: Like to me and which is like say it's nothing uncommon up there on the hill like that. W E6A X N repeater.
Speaker A: Well, good. Hopefully. W6bnh.
Speaker C: Yeah, well. And sometimes that hardware works its way loose or something gets, you know, the have something that breaks. So I will keep an ear on it as the net goes. WD6AXM clear.
Speaker D: KB9MYF.
Speaker C: 89 myf wd6axm. As well tonight.
Speaker D: How about now?
Speaker C: Yeah, it improved a little bit. You must have increased power, but it's still not quite over completely. You're not full quieting over it at the moment. Normally you are
Speaker D: a little bit more power. I'm probably getting over it now.
Speaker C: Yeah, like I say, you can still hear it. It's more improved than there, but you can still hear it. So this might get interesting.
Speaker D: Yeah, my Antenna is about 10ft off the ground, but I'm running 75 watts.

Speaker A: One of the things that kept me busy as an employee of the company. It was one of my specialties, going out and finding it. Yeah.
Speaker B: And when I lived in Oregon I went out and found a bad insulator and it was tough to get the power company
Speaker A: to fix it. I've had some pretty good success with them, had a good relationship with them. Most of the time they
Speaker C: don't. This bad hardware so they usually cooperate pretty well. Yeah, once they.
Speaker B: Order, they fix it or just turn the power off,
Speaker A: they responded and they fixed it the next day. Well, like I say, they're usually pretty good. Between the Chico and the Vacaville group, the PG&E guys that I worked with, they've been really good. So. Alrighty, I'm going to drop out of here for a bit. Have a good evening. Thanks for the call. WD6AXM. Yeah, that wasn't PG, that was back in the
Speaker D: 80s. But that was in Oregon. Myrtle Point, Oregon. I guess. Talk to you later. I guess that's going to be pretty soon, so. Catch you later. KB9MYF.
Speaker C: K6jjd. K6jjd.
Speaker A: I believe it was wd6axm.
