Speaker A: Kk6vzd mobile. W e6a x n repeater.
Speaker B: Kk6fyv mobile. Hey, Chris. How you doing?
Speaker A: I am doing just peachy, thank you very much. How are you?
Speaker B: I'm driving right in front of you. Probably.
Speaker A: You think I'm coming out of Harbor Freight. Is that where you're at?
Speaker B: I figured you were just leaving work over here in Marysville. But I'm still in Marysville.
Speaker A: Still. If there you get caught, there's some construction going on on 65. Right. Right before you get to the mall, right?
Speaker B: No, I was. After that. I had a doctor's appointment, and I ran by Sportsman's and Rocklers, and then I'm on the way home.
Speaker A: Isn't it nice that they're both right there together?
Speaker B: Yeah. If you want to speak.
Speaker A: Actually, yeah, no, I. Rockler's an interesting place to go, but I don't do all that much woodwork, so, you know, it's kind of wasted on me. But I saw that they have some classes here every once in a while. I thought I'd like to.
Speaker B: Yeah, my daughter and I went and took a epoxy woodworking class over there.
Speaker A: Oh, neat. Yeah, I. I'd like to see what they do. I had talked with my daughter about possibly going and doing a class. She seemed amenable.
Speaker B: Yeah, they were really nice and knowledgeable and all that. It's just every time I go in there, I spend more money than I should.
Speaker A: Oh, yes. Well, yeah. Too bad I'm not younger and had more room and a bit more ambition. I'd love to do woodworking. Yeah, There's a lot to be done with that.
Speaker B: It all depends on how deep you want to go. Then it gets into. How much do you want to spend?
Speaker A: I made a very basic model mahogany bookshelf years and years and years ago. And that darn thing. I mean, that thing's built like a tank.
Speaker B: Well, that's the other thing is, you know, if you personally spend the time and to make a really nice piece of furniture or whatever you're making, is it gonna last? And is your. You know, is it gonna be generational, they call it, you know, where you're pass it on and your rest of your family can use it, and they can.
Speaker A: Their kids can use it.
Speaker B: Who knows?
Speaker A: Yeah, my daughter has it right now. I think she really appreciates it. I think that might be one of those that just passed down to the next generation whenever that comes time for it. Yep. Yep. Did find out that. And I built this thing when I was at McChord. And that was, that was 40 years ago. And back then mahogany wasn't cheap. I can just imagine what it would cost now to build that same bookcase.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm not sure. I kind of perused the wood selection there a little bit, but I don't, didn't look at mahogany,
Speaker A: Make one mistake. Instead of making the backing, you know, like a quarter inch piece of wood there just, just to cover the back. I made it three quarters of an inch, man.
Speaker B: Do you make it out of plywood at least or is it 3 quarter inch solid piece of wood, you know, all edge glued together.
Speaker A: It's three quarter mahogany edge glued together.
Speaker B: Then you got a heavy piece of furniture there.
Speaker A: Yes, I do. But it, it, you know, like I said, it came out pretty good. There's a couple of flaws that if you look, you can see them but you know, it looks pretty, pretty nice and it's stained up. Well,
Speaker B: are they obvious flaws or the ones that you stand behind somebody and you smack them in the back of the head because they're looking too hard?
Speaker A: Well, I guess it's probably an obvious flaw that I use a little wood putty to fix, but you know. Oh well,
Speaker B: those are fine. I wish I had taken the time to learn a little more with my, I would call him master that I worked with when I was in high school. But yeah, he could take, you know, take grab five or six little, you know, whatever they are half ounce cans of different colors of wood putty and he'd sit there and mix the colors and play with the colors and blend the colors and you would have to stare at it to see where he put the putty.
Speaker A: Oh yeah, I, I should have checked this out. There used to be a, a furniture making classroom over in Marysville fifth right there at E Street, just a little bit past E Street. And I don't know how much the guy would have charged for lessons, but I kind of wish that I had done that when he was still there.
Speaker B: Yeah, the guy I did was just a painter, interior finisher, whatever you want to call it, kind of guy did, you know, painted whatever he needed to houses or buildings or whatever. But also did, you know, wall coverings, you know, put up expensive wallpaper like we did interior of doctor's offices. And we did remember where it was, but we did a finished new cancer ward for a place and all their waiting rooms and all that stuff. And all around it was hardwood trim. And I said filling nail holes. I mean you had a hard press when he was done to find a nail hole, and it would look like a continuous beast all the way around the room.
Speaker A: Yeah. You know, I remember when my. When I was younger, my grandfather came over a couple of different times and put up some wallpaper for us in our house. And, you know, it'd be nice if he had taken the time to instruct us. That would have been. I'm not sure what I had the patience, but I wish I had some of those skills nowadays.
Speaker B: Yep. He knew exactly how much to cut off to match it up. All the way around the room or out across the wall. Like I said, all of his woodwork was perfect. Or better than perfect.
Speaker A: Yeah, when Grandpa was finished, you couldn't tell where the seams were. That was.
Speaker B: It was that good.
Speaker A: Oh, well. Well, I am pulling in to the driveway right now, so I'm going to wish you a smooth journey the rest of the way home. And we'll talk to you later. 73 KK6VZD.
Speaker B: Clear. All right, Chris, I was just wondering when the next meeting is. I haven't been able to listen to the net.
Speaker A: That would be next Tuesday. Okay, just making sure.
Speaker B: All right, I may see you then, if nothing else is going on. All right, KK6 SYV clear for now.

That's affirmative. Copy. Do you know how much you need? Not a lot, you know, just enough to make a J pole. He has. I think the dimensions are only like 6ft, but, you know, might make a few of them. So, I don't know, 6, 12, 21, 20ft, something like that. I might have enough to make about six feet. I'd have to double check, but you're welcome to. It belonged to an antenna that broke, so. But that part of the antenna is still pretty good. Cappy, are you going to be at the meeting this next Tuesday? Yeah. If you want, I could bring it with me. That'll work. Thank you.

Speaker A: 0dve from Ko6mo Are you around? Devin?
Speaker B: Yeah, this is dve. What's going on?
Speaker A: I just wanted to let you know there's been some pretty good openings in the morning on 10 and 10 and 12 in the last couple weeks to Europe. So I've been. Had some pretty good success there in case you. You're interested in that.
Speaker B: Okay, I'll give it a look. Have to get up earlier.
Speaker A: Yeah, I mean around 7am or so seems to be. I mean at least around here it's kind of like that seems to be working pretty good. I was able to work the Falklands on 17 like late in the afternoon today. That was kind of interesting and I think on 40 around the same time, maybe a little bit earlier in the morning. But on 40 there were some openings to Asia which I found that was kind of interesting as well.
Speaker B: Yeah, with the wind it's kind of jumping all over for me. I'm trying to taste Cameroon right now, but not getting anywhere.
Speaker A: W E6A X N repeater. Yeah, I saw that one come up but there was Cameron and then I think Malawi was on a couple of weeks ago. They've been pretty active. They have a little station there. Were you able to get. What's the one in Angola? That one seems to be pretty. Coming up quite a bit and it's pretty easy to get.
Speaker B: Yeah, I've got Angola a couple times. Did you get your hundred DXX DX this is yet?
Speaker A: Yeah, I gotta. I'm up to 112 but I don't have enough of them confirmed yet.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's always a problem unless you're actively chasing him, which I don't always do.
Speaker A: Yeah, I copied that. I got a. I worked my tail off trying to get the USA 250. That's what I've been was working on for the last couple weeks and I got it on Saturday, this last Saturday. So that was kind of cool.
Speaker B: That's good, that's great. Yeah, I got mine I think February 1st
Speaker A: right on. I was pretty sure you probably already got it but I didn't really know too much about it until, I don't know, a couple weeks ago somebody had mentioned it on their QRZ page and like well that's pretty, pretty neat. But then I understood because what people are calling CQ250 and you know, and all that stuff. So I guess it kind of. It's kind of a cool little thing. I really like QRZ because make these little interesting awards, you know and you can kind of go after them just keeps. Keeps life interesting.
Speaker B: Yeah, I do too. I'm also working on the W1. Aw. Worked all states. Have you been doing that one?
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm not really familiar with that. I've worked at W1, AW1, 9 4, I think those, those stations. And maybe tell me a little bit more about that.
Speaker B: So they're rotating around, so there's going to be two chances for each state through this year.
Speaker A: Okay. So it's going throughout the whole year. So y' all just keep trying to work them. Oh, I wanted to mention, have you worked at the UN station that un Won un. That one's been pretty active lately as well.
Speaker B: Yeah, I have that one too. That was great.
Speaker A: Right on. I saw them trying to work Samoa this afternoon and so they were like locked in a. Trying to like work them. But yeah, Samoa's been pretty easy. One I'm after right now, I think in the Pacific is the Solomon Islands. I haven't worked work them up. I saw him come up, but I think I need that one.
Speaker B: Yeah, I don't think I have that one either. I'm still stuck at 87, so I've got a ways to go.
Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, you're right. You're gonna get there. So. Yeah, I think Europe last Monday, a week ago Monday, this morning was pretty good, but a week ago Monday was insanely good. Into Europe on 10 and 12. It was like. I've never seen it open like that before since I've been operating. I've only been operating a couple months, but it was really, really cool to see that everything all the way into, well, deep in Russia, which was kind of where some station called Kaliningrad, which is like. I don't even know. It's way out there in the middle of Russia. So that's kind of the situation that was just unbelievably good.
Speaker B: You might have a better antenna than I do, but I'll keep working at it.
Speaker A: I don't know. Yeah, it's hard to say because, like, this is just an infed, you know, half wave, infed antenna. So it's on. I don't know. I usually, you know, 10 through 10 through 80, but I don't work 60 or 30, so. Yeah, but it's. I don't know, it's only up. But it's weird because just. I guess it just depends on the orientation, you know. So I guess I got a good. A good look, you know, once in a while, you know, going north that way.
Speaker B: Well, my wire is only about even with my second story window so it probably should be higher but it's all I can do.
Speaker A: This one's thrown up in the tree so it goes from the chimney to the tree to another crape myrtle and then into another crape myrtle. So it's nothing special either.
Speaker B: Well either way it's fun. I enjoy it.
Speaker A: Yeah you got me turned on to it and I'm very thankful for that. So I mean it's really made made a huge. Always puts a smile on my face working working these these stations. It's just amazing. So thank you so much. Anyway, I'll sign clear. I'm gonna get back to doing some other projects but oh I did put on a a 1 to 1 ballon choke on this thing so maybe that helped out a little bit as well. I don't know. Anyway, ko6ml be clear on your final
Speaker B: okay you have a good one in zero dve.

Speaker A: Kkk6vzd mobile.
Speaker B: Hey, Chris. Pete.
Speaker A: And a good morning to you. How are you doing this morning?
Speaker B: Real good. You know, I wanted to actually get a date.
Speaker A: I know.
Speaker B: No, no, no, no. Yeah, it's not like that. A date of your retirement, you know, March 15th or what?
Speaker A: March 31st is my last day of work, so according to CalPERS, my actual retirement date is April 1st.
Speaker B: That's a good day for you. Just kidding. But the 31st. Oh, wow. You gonna have a party?
Speaker A: No, no, I might. I might ask some of the people that worked when I'm close to if they want to go out to Happy Viking or Sutter Butte Brewing after work for a beer.
Speaker B: Oh, and they're expecting you to pay? Oh, gosh, they're so low.
Speaker A: Well, I might do that just because
Speaker B: I want to, but yeah, they generally,
Speaker A: you know, there's generally some sort of a send off from work and I've decided that there are so many of the people that, you know, I, I worked with for so long that are no longer there that I don't care. I don't want, I don't want a, A send off from people I don't know that well.
Speaker B: Yeah, they didn't go through boot camp and serve their time. Well. Yeah, you kind of got it.
Speaker A: We weren't in the trenches together like the other people were, so. Yeah, within, within two years time, two, three years time, they basically changed over the personnel in that department almost 100%.
Speaker B: I don't like the new kind of workers anyway. And, and people tell me about this, you know, they try to hire, you know, and they can't think, they can't solve problems. They call it the inferential level. You know, they can't put together information they've learned, you know, so, hey, they can pay their dues.
Speaker A: Well, I know this is a bit of an exaggeration, Pete, but I think it's because they let their phones do their thinking for them.
Speaker B: Well, you know, teachers are concerned about this. There's a general trend and their solution is to, you know, lessen the standards, you know, lower the, Lower the critical basic stuff to nothing.
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, I get it. You know, I have, I have a few what I call rants, things that have got a real definite opinion on. And one of them is people not being able to think for themselves anymore because they're so dependent on their telephones or Google or whatever that you take that away from them and give them facts. And they can't, they can't, you know, compare them against one Another and come up with, you know, a conclusion.
Speaker B: Well, also they're thinking, you know, their behavior, their. The way they don't solve problems. Doesn't seem to be an issue to them, though. You know, as long as mommy's got the base, everything's fine.
Speaker A: You know, this was 20 plus years ago or so, but I was going out to Yuba College, some computer classes, and the professor, who wasn't that old, I mean, he was 40s, 80s, early 40s. We were talking about, you know, how wonderful smartphones were, and we got into the discussion about, you know, the utility, and he came up with the scenario, said, well, what if your car broke down in the middle of nowhere? What would you do? And you didn't have a cell phone to contact somebody, what would you do? And I said, I'd do what I always did, start walking.
Speaker B: You know, I hope you don't mind. That sounds like a good theme for a country western.
Speaker A: And I think then I, I, I countered back at him. I said, well, you know, there's, there's spots. My wife used to regularly drive down to Fairfield to take my daughter to visit her grandmother. And I said, you know, there's, there were spots where, you know, outside Woodland, there'd be vast stretches where she didn't have a cell phone signal anyway.
Speaker B: Hey, is that around Esparto? I used to have a friend there.
Speaker A: No, I'm not exactly sure. I'm not exactly sure. And the, you know, the need to have your telephone guide you to where you're going. You know, I actually, you know, I do use that on occasion just because it's a, you know, it's convenient to do that. But most of the time, I'll make sure that I look at a map first before I'm going, so I have a clue as to the general route that I'm going to be taking.
Speaker B: That's a good idea. I have heard about a guy who flipped over his pickup. He was a ham. Took him all day calling Simplex. Finally somebody heard him. So that's, that's encouraging. So, by the way, do you ever come this way to Chico? There is a breakfast I like the guys, you know, gears over here and there's mas grandes chitas there. They all talk about it. Okay, but you ever come this way?
Speaker A: Oh, not very often. Not very often. Listen, I'm going to pop out really quickly to mail. Put something in the mail. I'll be right back.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: I'm just sitting here.
Speaker B: I'll continue. Well, you know, I could talk.
Speaker A: It's fine.
Speaker B: Don't have a problem with that. I got a new toy here. I know nobody cares, but base I've
Speaker A: been at
Speaker B: plays really great, but, you know, you have to have strong hands to play bass. But I certainly like some of these artisans that have a bass and play. It's very creative. You know, the bass line to listen to. I particularly love the walking bass style. Some guys really master that. They use more chromatic movement, you know, through the baseline as well as,
Speaker A: you
Speaker B: know, arpeggio chord structure, all that. So anyway, N6Iwhere I hear that's me. Anytime you hear that sound.
Speaker A: W E6A X N repeater. So the reason that I had to. To get out and drop off a letter here was because I couldn't mail
Speaker B: it at the post office yesterday because
Speaker A: they had removed the drop boxes from outside the post office.
Speaker B: That's. That's a good issue for a ranch man. Let them have it.
Speaker A: I would like to talk to the postmaster and find out why in the world. And then, you know, they didn't give any other options. I guess the only other option is that you have to go inside the post office during business hours to drop off your mail. And, you know, the point of the drop boxes outside was so that you didn't have to go there during business hours.
Speaker B: Well, the other part of this is try to find deposit boxes. You know, where are they? At the post office, and they're not there anymore.
Speaker A: I know of one on my way to work, and I'm surprised it's still there. And with the fact that they removed them from the post office, I'm almost, you know, anticipating seeing this one removed also. But, you know, who would. You've got a point. That's a good subject for a rant. And, you know, maybe I'll make that one.
Speaker B: I wanted to start a rant about stupid people, and I mentioned this to my son. Hey, you know, I really want to do this. How stupid people can get and blah, blah, blah. Give some examples. And he said, well, dad, you better put yourself in there.
Speaker A: Well, you know, at certain points in time, while I'm sitting here talking about somebody, you know, it does occur to me, Chris, you're. You're part of that crowd. So I get it.
Speaker B: You know, I. I used a little contractor for dick job, and the guy was such a jerk. I just could not believe it. I mean, I could not believe how he, you know, is a professional businessman, right, when he's just a freako. Anyway, we had, you know, a couple words where he wanted more money. And I said, well, it should have been in the contract anyway. I didn't write any review, but I saw one later. Same guy and this woman, she just tears him up and says the guy's a jackass. If I only had read that prior to the business.
Speaker A: Yeah, be nice to be forewarned sometimes. Hey, listen, I pulled up at work, so I'm gonna grab my stuff and get inside and burn up another workday till retirement. Today should be 37. And then I have two vacation days that I'm taking this month before I actually lose that time. So that actually makes it 35 work
Speaker B: days and two vacation days and a wake up. Well, just stay real. Everything will work out.
Speaker A: All right, talk to you later. Have a great day. 73 KK6VZD clear. Hey, Chris. Did you guys meet at Rumpy or something after, you know, retirement get together? Let me know. Roger. Roger. Will do. And good morning, 73.

Speaker A: No contact. Ko6bgy. I'll be clear. Was that un6iwh? You had a lot of static on your end. That could be in a bad position as well. K06vgy.
Speaker B: Yeah, I've been having some rig Trouble also. Anyway, K06VGY, M6IWH. How's it going?
Speaker A: Hey, Pete. Going good here. Copied that. You're having some rig issues. Hopefully that gets sorted out. I notice when I park here at the office, if I park too close to the building, it's staticky on my end. How's my signal coming through?
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, you sound good. Good audio, you know, you're full quieting now. Are you on a rubber duck?
Speaker A: Negative. I'm on the mobile.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, sounds good. Sounds like you got 30 watts,
Speaker A: Right? Yeah, you're. You're way down in the weeds there. Hopefully things are going good with you starting to get the front of this little weather system that'll be moving through. It's enough to make the dirt on my car turn into mud spots. So hopefully it fix that so I can clean my car for this work.
Speaker B: Anyway.
Speaker A: What, what, what issue are you having with your rig? Are you able to figure that out or are you still troubleshooting? Pete, I think I lost you there. I'll try again probably when I get up 4:30, see if things are in better circumstances for you to copy N6IWH from K06DTY730P.
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, roger, roger. And I'll try out another radio and fix IWH.
Speaker A: Okay, I'm here for another 10 minutes, so if you want to try another radio, go ahead. If you want to switch over to the Carla 36 as well, that could be an option too. But if you're not hitting these over here, you're probably not gonna do too good on the car. But, yeah, go ahead and switch radios. I'll be here for a few minutes. Kosh bgy, standing by.
Speaker B: Testing, testing. Do you copy, N6Iwhite?
Speaker A: Copy. Same signal as last one. A lot of static. A lot of static.
Speaker B: Okay, well, I'll work on it. Talk to you later.
Speaker A: I'm not able to take much out of that at all. Have you tried going outside, standing on one foot and hopping up and down, see if that helps the signal over.
Speaker B: What would you say? Go outside and jump up and down?
Speaker A: Yeah, see if that helps with the radio signal. We might get a little bit better propagation that way. I don't know.
Speaker B: All right, let me try that.
Speaker A: I could hear you better. That Time. But you still had some noise on you there. What have you been up to working on your scale drawings of the half tracks and all that?
Speaker B: I've been working at that actually. Right now I'm working on a bow fang, trying to see if I can get it going and looking for an adapter so I can put a 2 meter antenna on the bowfang or.
Speaker A: Good luck with that. Are you on an AC right now or are you using something else?
Speaker B: Something else. And this is a ICOM HF rig and I don't know, I'm having some bad luck. Everybody says you're scratchy, your signal's bad. Oh no, it's getting kind of rough out there, see. Testing, testing. One, two, three, four.
Speaker A: Wonder if water got in it somewhere out on your antenna line somewhere.
Speaker B: Well, the trouble is I don't use it enough. And you know, when you get the radiation in the antenna makes it run better. So this is good. Use the antenna, use the radio, Everybody's happy. Ain't that right?
Speaker A: I gave up on trying to make everybody happy. I only leave myself and I bet anyone else is of the last cause I. I don't know. But hopefully you get that sorted out soon. So that way you get back to your booming signal. Probably something simple, but hopefully you don't have to climb too high. I don't know how high your mass is.
Speaker B: Well, the, the trouble is the rotor and direction, you know, because pretty much full scale everywhere I point the antenna. But people say scratchy noise. I'm going, okay.
Speaker A: To try to get in, get in on one of the nets and see if you can ask a question on there. But that's if you can even make it through to get the person to copy what you're saying.
Speaker B: Well, I'm awful lot of trouble on a 4:40 machine. Some other kind of linking system like Carla, I forget what it's called, but over there, especially on 440 and it's a whole separate antenna. Separate coax, separate radios. Everybody's going, you're all scratchy, you're all scratchy.
Speaker A: Well, whatever you did, I don't know if you moved or jumped up and down or what, but it's still scratchy. But I can hear you better than on the last radio. Not much else going on over here. Rinse and repeat. Rinse we sit. Axm repeater.
Speaker B: Fairly new radio, $300 radio. 350. 50 watts to an end tomorrow long should be working.
Speaker A: Yeah, I, I did not get enough of what you said to make sense of what you said there, but anyway, my 10 minute break is winding down to an end here and it's only a small stretch, probably one more hour and then I'm off. We'll give it a shot again, see what's going on. Anyway, Pete, stay safe, stay warm, stay dry, and we'll talk to you soon. N6IW8 from KO6DGY 73ft.
