6w mobile w e6a x n receiver.

Speaker A: Kk6vzd Mobile homeward bound for the weekend.
Speaker B: WP6AXM receiver kk6vzd ko6vzy Happy Friday, Chris. I'm coming into Yuba City here in a minute
Speaker A: and a happy Friday to you. Where you been?
Speaker B: Got off work at 4:30 and put some gas in the car and now I'm sitting over here by Dallas Lewis in Yuba City. Gonna go over to T Mobile.
Speaker A: Oh yeah, okay. Yeah, I, I had to go the AT&T store a few weeks ago but that was just because I bought a new phone and I probably won't be next to her again for months.
Speaker B: Yeah, I recall you saying you got a much more reasonably priced phone than other people. I'm actually, I have, right now I have Metro by T Mobile which is AT prepaid. Had that for over a year and now I'm eligible to switch to T Mobile for free and get a free phone from them. I mean I'm not getting a plan for free, I'm gonna have to pay for that. But I'll take a free phone.
Speaker A: There you go, there you go. Probably, you know, other than you know I want a phone, probably the only thing that I said that I want specific to my phone is I wanted wireless charging and not all phones have
Speaker B: that previous phone did. This phone that I have now does not. And you don't realize how nice that is until you have it.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's nice not having to find a cable and plug it in to just lay it down and it charges. That's really nice.
Speaker B: The only issue I've noticed with those depending on the phone and the manufacturer of the wireless charging pad, sometimes you have to like set it down and
Speaker A: make sure it connects.
Speaker B: Sometimes the magnets aren't quite aligned and a couple times I've had one and
Speaker A: like oh, it wasn't charging.
Speaker B: Luckily I caught it in time.
Speaker A: Oh yeah. Well, I guess my charger is old enough that it doesn't have magnets.
Speaker B: You just.
Speaker A: But it, it is, it's a, it's a stand up so when you put the phone down it's, it's in the exact same place every time. So you know, I guess that's as good as a magnet.
Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. That if it's working for you, no point in changing it. I'm just passing one of these new Jeep Wagoneers. Looks more something from a Chevy.
Speaker A: Oh well, yeah, the Wagoneer. The, that's the big one, right?
Speaker B: That thing was big.
Speaker A: I don't know if I'll be able to get through this way.
Speaker B: There's several cop cars, just 499. I'm just passing. What does it say? 76 days.
Speaker A: Oh boy, oh boy. Well, you know, it's really funny. It's like quarter after five and it's amazing how much the traffic changes between five o'. Clock. At five o' clock it's, you know, coming down, it's just really kind of heavy. And at certain spots on my way home but at 5:15 it's cleared up
Speaker B: very nice.
Speaker A: Oh yeah, I. Have we decided to go ahead and take the last two days in March since they're Monday, Tuesday and I was going to have two more days of vacation to burn. I just applied them to the end of March. So I have exactly four more weeks.
Speaker B: Congratulations. I never thought that day would be coming that quick. Huh.
Speaker A: Now I knew it was going to creep up and then, you know, go by really quickly and so I'm, I'm really not surprised because I knew it was going to get here, but now it's here. How many years with the county or
Speaker B: did you, did you go straight from the airport to county service or were you doing something before that?
Speaker A: No, I worked in corporate America for five or six years after I got out of the Air Force. So 24 years in the Air Force, six years. Five years with EDS, about one year with temp companies and then the last 21 years with the county.
Speaker B: There you go. Yeah, I wish I got into the county sooner but I'm sure I'll be able to get my 20 and I still only 38 so I got a little ways to go. But Lord will and all that. Stick with the county as long as possible.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, you know, it was nice to have a nice long career with the Air Force. So I've had two long careers, one with the Air Force, one with the county.
Speaker B: Very nice, very nice. Yeah, it's.
Speaker A: I mean it's okay.
Speaker B: This kind of work isn't for everybody. I mean it's not without its faults and everything. But there's 1, 2, 3, 4 cops over here at that little ET RV place.
Speaker A: Oh yeah, Okay. I wonder what's going on.
Speaker B: They've got somebody sitting in front of their car on the ground. Crisscross Apple bus. So they're definitely gonna be taking him or her in.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. When you, when you get to some place and you, you see these, the flashing U lights in here, four, five, six cars. Well, apparently, you know, something relatively serious has happened here.
Speaker B: Sure looks like it. Anyway, I am just about destinated now, so I'll go ahead and find. Clear, chris. Safe travels. On your way home. Kk6vzd. Ko6bzy73
Speaker A: all right. And have a great weekend, and we'll talk with you later.
Speaker B: 73 kk6vzd.
Speaker A: Clear.

Speaker A: 16 y k and 6 wnr. WP6AXM repeater.
Speaker B: I was waiting for that. How you doing Matthew?
Speaker A: N6cny Funny, I recognize it right away. You added a light bar on the top of it too.
Speaker B: Yes sir. Yes sir.
Speaker A: Mine gives it away too. Antenna and light bar. Oh yeah.
Speaker B: I knew it was you as soon as I saw that light bar up there. Let me guess, you're on your way into work.
Speaker A: Yes.
Speaker B: Then I doubled with you. Try that one again.
Speaker A: I'm on my way to work right now.
Speaker B: Gotcha. I'm actually on my way home for once. It's not even midnight yet. It's kind of weird.
Speaker A: So you work till midnight
Speaker B: last couple? Well, actually this last week and a half I've been working from midnight till about 10 o' clock in the morning
Speaker A: and then
Speaker B: anything after that, who knows. I've been working a lot
Speaker A: just this
Speaker B: week I've been starting about 6, 5, 6 o' clock in the morning and going until about 12 o' clock in the morning so.
Speaker A: Oh, that's late. Yeah, I get off at 10, either going at 2 o' clock and then work till 10 or I get in at 6 to 10. I, I either work eight or four hour shifts.
Speaker B: Gotcha. Gotcha. Yeah, they, they've got me running all over the place right now now that they I've been promoted yet again. So I'm no longer a supervisor, I'm now a manager. So I get to have all.
Speaker A: There you go. That's awesome.
Speaker B: Yep. So we're, we actually just took on a big contract so we've been hiring a bunch of people on and I've been working on getting people sorted around. That way I could get people to start pulling more of the regular patrols and standing posts and free me up a little bit to actually, you know, slow down and you know, try to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing in life.
Speaker A: You gonna be able to do the bike around abuse this year?
Speaker B: Yes sir. I want to be out there. I already told the told our scheduler that I am going to be unavailable for the day before. And the day of
Speaker A: the. What day does it start again? I can't remember because I'm going to request it off.
Speaker B: Bike around the buttes is on May 2nd.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm gonna be there.
Speaker B: Sounds good sir. I'll be out there as well. And you won't be able to miss me.
Speaker A: Of course.
Speaker B: Not that you can miss this car.
Speaker A: So coming from a ways, you probably could say the same thing about mine.
Speaker B: Yeah, it was Pretty bad. One day I got a phone call from Chris and he's like, hey, were you just at the hospital? It's like, yeah, look, I thought that was your car sitting there. He goes. It kind of stands out.
Speaker A: Does people say that about mine all the time. Because call sign in the back and the antenna and the white bar on the top very, very identifying
Speaker B: he is or is, sir. But hey, if it stands out, means it's harder for us to lose.
Speaker A: Exactly. I could find this thing in the parking lot instantly. That's what I do.
Speaker B: I come out and I always look for the, the, the field of antennas.
Speaker A: I think I counted four,
Speaker B: four center line. And then I got two mag mounts off to the left side of them.
Speaker A: See that? I saw the four center line.
Speaker B: Yeah. There's two mag mounts set off to the left side. And hopefully here within next, you know, week or two, I'll actually get enough time to be able to get all my toe axles, connectors terminated and get the lines pulled. That way I can get rid of the two mag mounts.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm probably going to add
Speaker B: two
Speaker A: more antennas to the roof at some point. At some point.
Speaker B: Gotcha. Gotcha.
Speaker A: Yeah, I actually had one of the
Speaker B: guys at one of the churches I work at, he's like, you got enough antennas on there? It's like, actually I got three more holes I could fill with antennas if I needed to. Hi, Matthew. Well, I am going to be destinating here in about 30 seconds, but you have yourself a good night of work and good here in the. Out there. So I'll say 73. I'll be clear on your finals. And 6. CNY.
Speaker A: Nice to hear from you again. You take care. You have a great rest of your night. Yep. I'm about to go walk inside target right now and go clock in. KN6WNR. Clear.

W e6 a x m receiver. Kn6t80 testing.

Speaker A: Kj6iymkn6ted. Kj6iymkn60 80. Nothing. Heard kn6tz clear.
Speaker B: See, I told you it's not working. M6vpi huh? You sound a little foreign to me. No clue why. F60PI. See you later. Can 60 declare?

W e6a x n repeater.

Alpha delta 6, charlie, quebec.

W e6a x n receiver.

W e6a x.

There. She goes. Well, why don't you want to go home? It's like because I'm trying to relax after a 15 hour shift. Finally, after I look at her, It.

Speaker A: W e6a x n repeater. There's Irish pocket. I'm out there.
Speaker B: I was on the side of the road, had my amber.

Speaker A: What other concerts? So we've got Auburn School, which is. Five different properties up in GR Valley and Auburn area. No, those are neck activity. So you're driving.
Speaker B: It. W e6a x n repeater. It.

Speaker A: Kf6, cwo mobile, wp6, axm, receiver.
Speaker B: Tk6isq, mobile,
Speaker A: Ak6isq.
Speaker B: I hope I got that right.
Speaker A: This kf6ewo gary, just heading down highway 70, heading towards. Well, going to auburn today. Roger, roger.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm on 70, heading back to yuba city.
Speaker A: Oh, okay. Yeah, I live in Oroville, so just just outside of Oroville a little bit.
Speaker B: There you go. Yeah, I had to go out to Hard Rock and get some fuel.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah, that stuff's getting expensive nowadays. I filled up yesterday, but I've been going to. In Oroville, the casinos are the cheapest place to go get fuel. Actually, Feather Falls is the cheapest.
Speaker B: Feather Falls is cheaper than Gold Country.
Speaker A: Yeah, Feather Falls always runs about 10 cents less than Gold country, but Gold country, still less than what's in town.
Speaker B: Okay, I'll start paying attention to that. I know you guys are cheaper than we are down here, but the drive.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah. I mean, if it wasn't for the fact that I lived there and they're right there, I would. I wouldn't be driving all the way to another city for. For just to get fuel. Yep.
Speaker B: Yeah, Hard Rock is, gosh, probably five, maybe 10 miles away from Yuba City. So it's not that bad.
Speaker A: How long you been a ham? Oh, probably about 12 years. Okay, what do you like doing?
Speaker B: I usually. I'm doing unless I'm driving. I'm usually doing HF and
Speaker A: digital. Okay, so you're what, a general or an extra?
Speaker B: I'm a general.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, I do a lot of HF FT8. I play around a little bit with the slow scan, MMSs, TV pictures and stuff. I try to do a little bit of everything. I like to build antennas. So lately I've gotten on a vertical kick from. Oh, I watch YouTube videos with Salty Walt, K6ogo or K4ogo.
Speaker B: I get it right here.
Speaker A: He put out a book. He does a lot of antenna builds, demonstrates them and uses them, you know. So when he built it, he's sitting there making contacts with it in his videos. So, you know, it works. But yeah, I like building all kinds of antennas.
Speaker B: Yeah, I. I watched a lot of his videos when I first started out. And then, yeah, I made my fair share of antennas. Matter of fact, I'm making one now. It's up and I used the wrong un. So I had to order a new one, a different on a 49 to 1. And I'm waiting for it to get here.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, that's one. I don't have I have four to one unknowns. I don't have a four to one ballon but it seems like a lot of the stuff that I've done hasn't required it. I made a one of his verticals that for 20 meters but I can also use it on 17 and 15 and it uses a 9 to 1 and you have a 17 foot vertical wire going straight up and then you have about a three foot short wire on the bottom end. So it's almost like an off center fed dipole but it's not as precise as far as the distance in the overall length. So. And it's worked really well for me.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, no, I made a 160 meter sky loop out at my mother in law's where I have one station at and then I've made several off center feds. The skyloop I have a 9 to 1 balance on and then off center feds are 4 to 1.
Speaker A: Last time I was down at HRO I picked up those bunch of those. One of each of those balance they had for all that only 200 watts. But I mean if you're only using 100 watt radio it doesn't really matter. You're well under the limitations from it. I do have a 1500 watt amplifier but I'm currently not using it because I, I haven't put up an antenna that'll handle that much power.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's my problem is there is I gotta watch for what which unans or balance I use because I, I like to use my, my amp.
Speaker A: KF6EWO for ID. Yeah, I've got a 4 to 1 ballon that's good for 3,000 watts. I think is what it says on it that I got from DX Engineering. I've had it for a while. I just haven't figured out what antenna
Speaker B: to use it on
Speaker A: and put it up. I'm pretty limited. I live in an area where there's a lot of power lines around me so there's no power going up at my house. I even have those big highest voltage towers running on two sides of me through our area in Oroville. So I get a little noise but I get more noise from everybody's solar panels.
Speaker B: Yeah, I cannot believe how much noise I get in town out of my mother in law's. She lives out in the county and it's much, much quieter. But I'm usually you know, at my place at night. I was operating remotely from, from her place. But you know, operating remotely. I can't use the amp.
Speaker A: Yeah, they don't have control for those, just the radios, but. Well, you know, I mean, I've. I've worked all over the world with FT8, you know, on 100 watts, so. Or, well, not even 100 watts. Usually I'm right around 35. Between 35 and 50 watts. So, you know, you don't have to have a lot of power. And of course, there's always the QRP guys out there that are saying, you know, best power is better, but a lot more work. Yeah, I like to.
Speaker B: The whole reason why I got into radio, honestly, is the dx and a lot of times I need the power for that. But FT8, I really like doing that, but it gets kind of boring and tedious to me after a while.
Speaker A: Yeah. Well, the benefit to FT8 is when nothing's happening, you know, in the voice realms and stuff, then you can always do something with that. Otherwise, you know, when bands are open, you know, just sideband or FM or whatever, And Because I know here lately a lot of stuff's been going on on 10, 17 and a little bit on 12.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm gonna. I think I'm gonna check out this F. F.J. i don't know, something like that 8 where you can actually type out a message and send it.
Speaker A: Oh, okay. Yeah, I was using PSK31 was one like that, keyboard to keyboard. It just doesn't seem to be much going on on it. I did. I. That was the first digital mode I started out on. I made a lot of contacts with it, but that was, you know, I. I got my first license in 96 and then I upgraded and I'm an extra. Although, you know, being an extra for the extra frequencies you get, I don't spend much time on them at all. So, you know, general. General is good enough. I had an opportunity to take a class. It was available, so I did it. But yeah, I spend more time in a general area. KF6EWO, KK6ISQ for ID.
Speaker B: Yeah. I keep on telling myself I'm gonna study up and get my extra. And then I end up playing on the radio and. And not doing it. I mean, that little bit of frequency, like, I don't think matters too much.
Speaker A: The only time it makes a difference is sometimes some of these. The expeditions are running up in that area, you know, in those frequencies, and then it's nice to be able to do it. But in general, most of the people. Most people. People you make contact with are in the general privileges.
Speaker B: Yeah, my whole. I think the other thing with me is, you know, I want to get my extra eventually just to be able to have it.
Speaker A: Yeah, you know, I'm not trying to talk you out of it, don't worry. It's nice to say you got it. I like to play around with satellites a little bit too. That's another one that you can do anytime. It's just a little more work and a little more skill and a different method.
Speaker B: Yeah, I can't say I've tried to do that yet. Don't quite understand it. I haven't done it yet. But no, I didn't take it as. Take you as deteriorating, you know, not want me to get that. It's it that's more on my side.
Speaker A: Well, if you get involved in it, you don't have to have a big old station with big rotors and you know, I mean that makes it nice, but it's expensive and you can have fun with just a handheld antenna and a handheld radio that does the duplex. Or you can use two, two hand handheld radios to get your up and down link. There's ways to do it cheaper just like now on hf, you know, you don't have a tower and you don't have big up big beams like some people have and string up some wire and you can still have fun.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, definitely.
Speaker A: All right.
Speaker C: Good morning, guys. Good morning, Mike. Hi, Gary.
Speaker A: From my area up here, this is Ernie, KN6GTN, KF6GTM. Is that what your call was?
Speaker C: Yeah, KN6Kilo November 6th, Golf Tango, November. Ernie up here in Bangor. Yeah, I hear you up here, Gary.
Speaker A: Okay, Ernie, have you, have you checked in during our or Sunday night nets? You Sound familiar now, KN6GTM.
Speaker C: Oh, yeah, I do occasionally. I haven't the last while
Speaker A: haven't been
Speaker C: home or around the radio when it happens sometimes, but yeah, I know, I
Speaker A: know most of your people. Now back when I got started in this radio, I used to be on this repeater a lot. There's a few of the people I used to talk to that are all silent keys now. I spend more time on HF than I do today. I just happened to be driving to my mom's and I thought I'd see what was going on. KF6EWO and the group, go ahead. I'm sorry, I didn't get your name. KF60 wo, that's Mike.
Speaker B: How you doing there, Ernie?
Speaker A: Doing good.
Speaker C: Good to hear you out there. How's life treating you down there?
Speaker A: Oh, pretty good, pretty good.
Speaker B: Can't, can't complain. And definitely not dull down here. I got plenty of things going on.
Speaker C: I can only imagine say the same thing up here. So yeah, I'll let you guys get back at it. I was just mobile here. I had to take a load to the dump. We did a remodel on our house
Speaker A: and had some leftover trash so it
Speaker C: had to go somewhere.
Speaker A: So I just got rid of it.
Speaker C: Heading back to the house.
Speaker B: Actually I'm gonna have to back out of here. I just got home myself.
Speaker C: Okay, well you have a good day, have a good weekend and we'll catch up with you later.
Speaker A: Mike. So.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker C: Gary, you got a few miles go yet, don't you?
Speaker A: Yeah, my. My mom lives outside of Auburn. I don't know if you're familiar with that area up there or if you ever been to like Paloma and Sutter's Mill and all that gold rush stuff. She's up in that area and kind of lives in the country. So. She's 88. My brother's gonna buy my dad's truck from her for his son and he's in Indiana. So I gotta go check on it and make sure it's ready so that when he has somebody come and pick it up to take it down to la, it's ready to go.
Speaker C: Okay. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker C: You can take your metal detector along
Speaker B: and
Speaker C: prospect on her property while you're down there.
Speaker A: I haven't done none of that. I just haven't really got into. I got a son in law that's all into that kind of stuff searching for gold and has a metal detector and a little small swoosh box and all those things to do all that. I like to play radio. I got interested when I was a little kid and I've been in it ever since.
Speaker B: So.
Speaker A: Yeah, that's more my thing. But I have to work on check my dad's truck out. I know there's a few things that I need to do to it before it leaves. So I got my tools packed in my truck and I'm ready to go at it. Yeah, that'll be busy for a while.
Speaker C: You couldn't ask for a nicer day to do it either. Very, very pleasant outside. Yeah. And as far as the sluice box and the metal detector, that's sounds like my boys, they like to play on the radio, but they also like to see if they can find anything yellow.
Speaker A: Yeah, that's, you know, that's still popular and young kids, they're exploring all kinds of things. They want to do. So you know with them they're all over the spectrum sometimes with what they want to try and do.
Speaker C: Yeah, that's right. So I hear I guess you're the ORS group is going to be doing a testing session. Is that just coming up here in in March or it is that what I heard?
Speaker A: Yeah, it's going to be on the evening of Friday the 13th, March 13th in Oroville. It's an evening session. I'm not exactly sure on the details but yeah, I know it's going on. I'll probably be there. I'm a ve so I hadn't done much. I used to come down here a number of years ago quite a bit to Yuba City and then we go and help the Chico group but they got so many people locally for you guys that they didn't really need us so we kind of stopped coming and I hadn't done any testing and then.

Speaker A: Joe Biselli mentioned it to me and I talked to Paul and so anyway, we're exploring this new testing method.
Speaker B: Yeah, Paul has done a good job getting that up and running and making it functional for everybody. He took over from, from, oh, what was his name that had done it for many years. Leroy had done it many years down here. And when Paul took it over and got that electronic stuff up and running, that's the new way of doing things, I guess.
Speaker A: Yeah, it makes it nice. We've got a guy in our club and he has issues with leaving town. So it makes it nice that you can do things on computer. And Covid was the thing that really, you know, they were exploring it, but Covid really pushed it to where, you know, they really started working on coming up with a viable method that was secure enough and, and to make sure that it was, you know, valid testing without any cheating or any of that kind of stuff. So. Yeah, and I did a test session once with Paul in Yuba City with the computers the one time, but I haven't been back since.
Speaker B: Okay, very good. So I heard you talking about making antennas. Are you into anything special right now? Have anyone halfway down or have a project going?
Speaker A: I've been experimenting but my latest antenna that I built is vertical for 20 meters. It has, it's just wire and I've got a pole that I. Fiberglass or PVC pipe pole that I stuck it to. And it uses a nine to one ballon. The main element is 17, a little over 17ft long. And then this shorter element, which is kind of like a counterpoise or almost a tuning stub type thing is like three feet long. And there's no radials on the ground. This is, that's it for the antenna and I've been using that for a few days and that's working pretty well. There's others I want to do. I just need to get some of those DX Commander replacement poles, fiberglass poles, to do some more experimenting.
Speaker B: Okay, the boys have a. We have a 70 foot crank up tower and with a beam on the top that we got from, I don't know, a place up in paradise. We had taken a tower down, a freestanding tower. We took it down and it had a beam on top. And that's what the boys have put up on top of there. They can, and they also have an amplifier so they, they then they have a bunch of wires they have and 160 wires too with a switch up there so they can, you know, select which band they want.
Speaker A: Kf6cwo Friday. Yeah, I. I don't have the ability to put a tower up. I do have. Two meter beams that I can put up fairly easy, and it just uses a regular TV antenna rotor, but nothing big for hf. It's all wire stuff. I also use. I have an NFET that I got from Chameleon that I've had up for a while that I use quite a bit. That works pretty good, too.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's amazing what you can do with those wires. It just fascinated me when we got into it 99 and 2000. When we first got into HAM radio. It just fascinated me what you could do with a wire antenna. But anyhow. Well, I just rolled into the house here, Gary, you have a nice afternoon. Be careful out there. I'll say 73 is good chatting with you and we'll talk to you later. KN6GTN.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, you have a good day. I'm in the middle of traffic in Marysville right at the moment, working my way through. So, anyway, you have a good day and we'll catch you another time. KN6GT x KF6EW.

Ykn6wnr. You out there?

Speaker A: Kilo oscar6 bravo, golf yankee monitoring mobile. Kn6 wnr. You out there, matthew?
Speaker B: W e6a, x n receiver. 62 yk and 6 wnr.
Speaker A: Hey, Matthew. How are things going with you
Speaker C: doing good. I'm just helping my dad move stuff out of the back of my truck right now. We got some soil and stuff in the back of the truck. We're helping a friend of his out.
Speaker A: Okay, not too bad. Yeah, gonna head over to Marysville, run my errand and then go to Yuba City, do a couple other things and then head. Okay. So you're here in town. I'm still on the colossal county side of both
Speaker B: bridges, so I've just barely started this trip. Okay. Yeah, that's why I can't hear you on the input.
Speaker A: Yeah, no, I'm nowhere near close enough to that. And I don't have the 2 meter calling frequency channel selected. I need to put that back on there. But I mean, it's on the radio. I just don't have it selected. Maybe I'll do that when I get closer to Yuba City and we'll trust in someplace.
Speaker C: Well, I'm gonna go back to what I was doing and we'll try again in a few minutes. Okay. Nice talking to you again, Paul. It's been a long time on the radio. 73 for now. KN6WNR.
Speaker A: 73. Matthew. Yeah. It's been a while. Good hearing you out there. K06BGY. I'll be monitoring in the background.

Wp6axm repeater. Fb7 ipa grandson.

Speaker A: W e6 a x n receiver.
Speaker B: I heard somebody bring up the repeater. November 6 Bravo Oscar Bravo. Bob in Yuba City. N6vob ko6bgy Wasn't me, but it's good hearing you out there, Bob. I'm getting back on the road, so I'm gonna be a bit distracted. But good hearing you out there. Did you just get back from seeing your wife? Good question. I'm on my way to see her right now. I've been walking in the park and thanks for asking. I'll probably be there for a couple hours visiting with her. So where are you headed today? You got a second to share? That's awesome. I'm glad you're still able to go get your walks in and go see her. I know how much you appreciate that. I'm just over here in Marysville. I live in Calusa. Came over here to Marysville and now I'm heading back into Yuba City to get a haircut, do a little bit of shopping and head home for the rest of the weekend. Sounds good. You have a good place to go for a haircut? I could use the haircut myself. I just go to Great Clips there in Yuba City over by the Walmart. I've been going there for as long as I can remember, even when I was in the service and haven't got a bad haircut yet. And if you do, the only difference is you have to wait about two weeks and then it clears out. Was that Great Cut the name of it? Sorry, I had the window open.
Speaker A: Great Clips. Okay.
Speaker B: Yeah, I didn't catch it. What do they charge? 20 bucks or so. I think it's up to 23 now, which is still a lot cheaper than most places, so. And you, you can get in and out pretty quickly. They usually have four or five, maybe even six sometimes. Stylists operating? Not always. They do like to keep their manpower down sometimes. But yeah, I mean, I would recommend it. Like I said, it's over there in the Walmart shopping center. You have sport clips. I would not recommend them at all. Great Clips is the way to go in my opinion. I had to almost do it myself. That was one of the things when I was dating my wife, unfortunately, we were married. I told her if she would learn to cut my hair then I'd have more money to spend on her. We could go out, go on more dates. So she learned to cut my hair and she did a good job for over 50 years. She can't do it now. Boy, the thought of that just gave Me chills. That's freaking amazing. That's awesome that you were able to do that. Well, I tried to save a little money. You know, we had a lot of great trips together and we did a lot of things together. All right, I won't keep you. I know you want to run along but nice and set space. I haven't been on the repeater. Haven't been on the air at all for probably a couple months. But take care and get a good haircut. N6 POV. 73 Bob 73K06BGY. I'll be clear
Speaker A: 6 Kov KN6WNR okay.
Speaker B: Hi. I'm just signing it off, but hi. We haven't talked for quite a while. I haven't been on to talk to anybody.
Speaker A: Nice hearing you, Bob. It's been a while. I've been really enjoying that kittenwood that you gave me. I made a lot of contacts. I just reached Chile. I've heard all over the world with that. I'm really thankful for that rig by the way. I just want to say thank you again for that and I hope everything's going well. I just walked over the radio again and heard you talking to Paul and I thought I'd say hi real quick. You for you when.
Speaker B: Thank you. And I appreciate you telling me that you like it. I always thought it was a nice radio and you know, it's small, you can take it places. Portable. If you went camping, if you had electricity, you know you could use it. So what, what are you using for an antenna?
Speaker A: 20 meter off center fed dipole and I got a little push up monopole coming in the mail for a PODA that has a little ground stake and radial. It gets up to a quarter wave height for 20 meters, you know, as a vertical. And I'm going to be doing that for PODA and for field day. I'm going to be taking that Kenwood out for field day. I'm going to really enjoy doing that. And there's nothing wrong with that radio at all. It's slightly, ever so slightly out of alignment. But I'm going to take care of that one of these days. It's barely out of alignment. I'm really surprised too for how old it is. It's in such good shape. The audio is great. It really pulls in weak signals. I'm really impressed by that radio and I've gotten some really amazing contacts with it. And it paired with that 20 meter off center set dipole strung up pretty high. It's got good gain. Got some nice low off coax to it. I got the RGB and it's been. It's been really great. I have no complaints. It's been great. Well, I won't keep you too long so you can go visit your wife and you know, you have a great rest of your day. I'll be clear on your final. KN6WNR73.73, yeah, I'm here just past the park.
Speaker B: And I'm glad you see you're going to be using it for a few days. It's a good little thing. All right, take care outside. I'm controller behind house on 837 Allen Way. Okay, N6 pod clear for now. KN6WNR K06BBY.
Speaker A: Paul,
Speaker B: I'm on 20 at Live Oak Boulevard. Head back to the Walmart. Walmart shopping center. Gonna get a haircut.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, I go to that one sometimes.
Speaker B: It's done me well, price is competitive. Lower than most places. I won't pay over 25 for a haircut. It's not worth it. For that price you can buy your. I mean, not that you have. Not everyone has the same skills, but when I was in the service, I mean, obviously you're just shaving your head, so. I had one pair of clippers. It lasted my whole service, my whole term of contract, so still have it running around. Occasionally use it to touch up things, but I let the professionals do it.
Speaker A: You are quite literally close enough to be snip watch with me. Right.
Speaker B: I can't change channel until I stop. Radio is out of position to where I can see the display. That's the joy of having this little tiny sports car, as they call it. I have it mounted on the center console. If I put my elbow out too far, I'll chip it on the corner of it. But luckily I haven't done that yet, so. But yeah, you know what? We just stopped, so I'll go ahead and try to get that over there on one the other channels. I'll try you here in a second.
Speaker A: Qsy over to 146535.
Speaker B: I won't be able to do that until I completely stop. So anyway, we'll see what that looks like here in a few minutes. I'm just now passing through Gray Avenue, hitting every red light in town, at least on this route.
Speaker A: Okay, then I'll stay here for now.
Speaker B: Yeah. I have to say, at work, your dad's pretty popular with the people that I work with or work for, I should say. They always look forward. He's always got something that's and they're like, we haven't seen Eric yet. He'll be here. I don't think he ever takes a day off. Rarely.
Speaker A: W, E, 6A, X, N repeater, 6W and R. Friday. Yeah, he works Saturdays sometimes along with his Monday through Friday. He gets a lot of hours, and so he gets a lot of overtime. Even still,
Speaker B: I could see that happening. And I've already said it many times before to him and you, but that town's gonna be really hurting when he retires eventually. He does the work of three to four people at least. He's got the longest walking route, plus all the driving and all that. So. You doing anything special for today or are you just laying low?
Speaker A: I haven't sure what I'm going to do the rest of the day besides eating some pie. I'm helping my dad out. We're just taking a break with what we were doing earlier.
Speaker B: So for the special day, you're more of a pie person, not a cake person,
Speaker A: and definitely not a pie to the face person actually eating the pie.
Speaker B: Hi. Hi. Yeah, definitely. What kind of pie? Lime. You broke. Did you say pecan?
Speaker A: Key lime.
Speaker B: Hey, at least you got good taste that. You know what? I might. Might have to track me down to key lime pie. A friend of mine, she passed away, but she usually makes the best key lime pie. She'd do it from trad and. Yeah, I don't know. I just don't have the patience. I can cook. I've worked as a chef, but baking was not my forte. I'll break. One second. People don't know how to drive into this home depot parking lot. They all stop in the intersection and. Yeah, that was interesting.
Speaker A: Telling me it's really irritating.
Speaker B: Doesn't help that it definitely looks busier than normal.
Speaker A: It's Saturday. Yeah, it's gonna always be that way. Probably the worst day to actually be in that parking lot.
Speaker B: Yeah, I ran over to the century over there by the railroad tracks. I think it was the wild teams or whatever. And that usually takes like an hour to get in and out because there's only, like four parking spots. And I got in and out of there really quick. So I guess I. I was doomed or set to experience some kind of traffic. But I'm not in any hurry, so.
Speaker A: Yeah, Other than that. How you been?
Speaker B: Oh, work's been starting to smooth out now, but my arthritis, the gout had been acting up with all these storms going hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold. So the pain was real bad. So I've had to miss some time from work and whatnot. The doctor gave the note to me and I gave it to the doctor, to the HR department. And the HRs like, nah, it's not good enough. We're gonna ask you the questions. I'm like, no, I'm not. So I had to get the union attorney involved, but it's all worked out now, so. So we're doing good
Speaker A: at least. Everything's kind of straightened out. Yeah. I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing in the next little bit, but I'm going to be helping my dad out here shortly, though. But I'm not sure what I'm going to do after all this.
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, I've just decimated over here. Gonna check in online and see what the wait time is. Maybe go to the Dollar tree and get a snack. But anyway, I don't have an HT on me, but I'll be back in and out on this.
Speaker A: Well, I'll be listening for your call. I'm keeping this radio on. It's on full blast. I can hear it way outside the truck. Truck. So just throw your call out and I'll try to pick it up when I can. Well, you have a great one and talk to you later. K06BGY, this is KN6WNR73.
Speaker B: KN6WNR. KO6BGY73. Matthews. I'll catch up later.
