WD6AXM TX (146.085 MHz) recordings for 2026-03-03

Speaker A: Kk6vzd mobile. Good evening, Ted. How are you tonight? Ready to get home?
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, I want to be home tonight too. So ted, I got four weeks and that's it.
Speaker A: I got 20 years and that's it. Well, at least I'm having
Speaker C: fun.
Speaker A: Well, I'm having fun. I've been retired 23 years.
Speaker B: I am no longer having fun. Which is why I'm glad I'm retiring in four more years or four weeks.
Speaker C: It's
Speaker B: not all
Speaker C: fun. Hello, Ted. Hello,
Speaker A: Chris. WA1 nerd. Hey, david. Kn6 ted. Almost to the house.
Speaker B: Are you going to be on the net tonight there, Ted, and give some info about bike around the views?
Speaker C: Yes, I have an alarm set for tonight. I always either forget or fall asleep one of the two.
Speaker B: Well, I can. I recognize that. Yeah, I've been taking more naps as the time goes on. When I get home from work.
Speaker C: Yeah, I don't take naps. I'm normally in bed at like 8, but 7 o' clock I'm either eating dinner or getting ready.
Speaker A: Yeah, okay. All right. Well,
Speaker B: yeah, so are you an early bird? You have to get up like at ungodly hours?
Speaker A: We normally get up about four.
Speaker B: Okay. Left my own devices. When I don't have to get to work, I get up about nine.
Speaker A: On the weekends we sleep in till 4:30.
Speaker B: About you, David, is that kind of standard fare for when you retire all you all of a sudden start
Speaker A: sleeping in late? He's not listening to
Speaker B: the active conversation.
Speaker C: Well,
Speaker B: yeah, but
Speaker A: then
Speaker B: again, you know, quite often they stay up till 2 o' clock in the morning. So I guess if not to be surprised, you know, I'll wake up later.
Speaker D: W E6A X N repeater
Speaker C: all right, well, I'm at the house. I'll be on at seven o'. Clock. We'll catch you later, Chris. KN6T80 all right, Ted,

Speaker A: Qst, qst, qst. Calling all amateur radio operators. This is W6PNH Paul in Yuba City. Net Control for tonight's net. The following net is held every Monday evening at 1900 hours local time on the WD6AXM repeater by the Yuba Sutter Amateur Radio Club. The purpose of this net is to distribute distribute club related information, promote interest in amateur radio and promote effective net operating procedures. All hams are welcome to join us. The CTCSS tone to access this repeater is 127.3Hz with a positive offset. This is a directed formal net. So please direct all traffic to W16, your net control station for tonight's net. Any stations with emergency or priority traffic, please identify now. All radio amateurs, both club members and guests will be invited to check in. But first I will take check ins from our club officers and board members, followed by those wishing to make announcements. Let's start with our president, Carla K6KDS.
Speaker B: Yes, Paul, this is Carla K6KDS in Yuba City. Good evening everyone. I just wanted to say one quick thing. If you signed up for the FT8 focus group, look for an email this week week with information about our meetup. And that's it for me. Back to you, Paul.
Speaker A: Thanks for that, Carla. I've got you checked in. How about Vice President Bud, KK1, Bud
Speaker C: Kilo, Kilo 1, Bravo, Uniform, Delta. Good evening, Paul and the Net.
Speaker A: This is Bud in Sutter.
Speaker C: The only thing I have tonight is I'm still looking for a couple more volunteers to help out with buckeye parade on March 21. That's a Saturday. I need somebody for about four hours in the morning from 8 to 12 to help out with logistics and helping set up the parade participants. It's a good opportunity for people who are fairly new to the club, to the group to get to know some other people and help out and maybe get some other folks that have been around for a while and get them involved again. So, looking for a couple of volunteers? You can contact me at 530-933-9586. Either text or email and we'll get you set up. Okay, that's all I have, Paul. Back to Net control.
Speaker A: Thanks, Bud. Yeah, I'm looking forward to that. And I'm planning on joining you for lunch afterwards. I know you've invited anybody helping out to do that, so sounds like a good activity. And appreciate the comments about getting people involved. How about Our Secretary Linda? KK6SOZ.
Speaker D: Good evening, Paul. And that this is KK6SOZ Linda in Yuba City. Just reminding everyone that there is a board meeting tomorrow evening at 7 on Zoom. Back to Net.
Speaker A: Thanks for that, Linda. Got you checked in. And how about board member Joe in 9bd says at 9bd Joe and Dobbins.
Speaker E: And yes, I just forwarded the
Speaker F: the
Speaker C: Zoom connection for tomorrow night for those
Speaker E: that desire to attend, pass along too.
Speaker C: Enjoyed a nice opening on 10 and 15 this morning. Worked about 80 Europeans, which was kind of nice.
Speaker A: Nice change.
Speaker F: Other than that, I'm sure Curtis will
Speaker A: remark on it too if he's here tonight.
Speaker C: But we have three new hams that passed the test Thursday night, two technicians and a general. So that's about the rundown. So back to Ned.
Speaker A: Yeah, good, Joe, I'm glad you mentioned those new hams. Two of them have their call signs and I'm expecting the last one to get a call sign in the morning. So congratulations to them and I'll give a shout out to them. I'll call for them with the members. Okay, how about Devin, board member N0DVE. Board member Leonard K06DVV?
Speaker C: This is Leonard K06DVV in Browns Valley with no traffic.
Speaker A: Back to you. Thanks, Leonard. Got you checked in. And how about board member Joe AK6JN?
Speaker D: AK6JN here. Thank you for doing the Net having
Speaker C: no traffic for the Net.
Speaker A: All right, well, thanks, Joe. I've got you checked in and as your board member and VE coordinator, I'll go ahead and just chime in. And I'd like to welcome Robert K06MQW with his new general license from the class and John Ko 6Mrs. Also from the class. And Valerie should have her call in the morning, I think. So congratulations to them. It was fun to be a part of getting those tests administered. And that's it for me. So I'm going to give a shout out to our board member, Emeritus Leroy KJ6DKM. How about our repeater trustee, dave wd6axm. And VHN editor Curtis KF6VFP. Curtis KF6VFP.
Speaker C: And I have a suggestion for Carla.
Speaker A: Go ahead. Instead of sending a targeted email to those who just signed up for the
Speaker C: RT8 thing, send it to everybody in the club.
Speaker A: You might get more people kf6vfe back to net control. Okay, I'm sure she made note of that and I'll go ahead and move on to our other VHN editor, Marcia Ki6csn. Our Net Control Coordinator, Chris KK6VZD.
Speaker F: Good evening. Good evening. This is Chris, KK6VZD here in Yuba City and nice to hear of the new hands tonight. Question, Question. Are we still having a test session Saturday?
Speaker A: Oh absolutely we are. We have one person pre registered for that and of course most of the people we usually get are walk ins so definitely still on for Saturday morning. Anticipate starting testing right at 9am so feel free to arrive a little early. If you're a ve and are able to help out, we'd love to see you. And if you're looking for an upgrade or you've got somebody that is ready to take their first test, we're open to that. So looking forward to it.
Speaker F: Thank you for validating that and wanted to thank you and Carla for taking net control for March. We do have an April. Somebody signed up for April also I have to look at my calendar. We still, we still do need about
Speaker A: five or six net control operators for
Speaker F: 2026 so please consider taking a slot either a month or a day or a couple of days. I know I have a couple that are splitting a month and if you want to do that that's fine, just let me know. KK6Z Z D R L.net thank you. And back to you.
Speaker C: W E6A X N Repeater yeah, thanks
Speaker A: for that Chris and thanks for coordinating this this team. So that really is helpful and I just wanted to go ahead and put the word out if anybody is
Speaker F: may
Speaker A: be interested in being a net control but a little bit unsure about what it takes or haven't got your nerve up yet. I would be happy to have somebody join me and sit with me for one of the nets that I'm doing and you know, sometimes it just helps to see how it works. So I'd like to put that out there. Get in touch with me if you're interested. I'll go ahead and call for Our Aries coordinator Buck N6CNY. And how about our arrl section manager j n6sac? Okay, any board members that didn't make it to the mic in time that want to do a late check in, please come now. Speaker B: Did you give out any radios?
Speaker A: I did not even think of it. But that would have been a good opportunity. Maybe we would have had some check ins tonight from those two, but I just did not even think about that. I do have them. I believe I've got them programmed and ready, so I'll bring them on Saturday.
Speaker B: Okay. I was wondering if maybe you might want to get back to. Because those were the ones in your class that passed, right?
Speaker A: Yeah, those. Those three were all in the class.
Speaker B: The ones they really wanted those to go to. And if you need more, I might have a couple Extra that I could dig out.
Speaker A: Well, I'm sure we could put them to use. And what we could do is maybe I'll bring those to the club meeting. I think there was pretty good interest of these new hams to come to the club meeting. So we see them there and they still don't have a radio. It might be a good chance to hand them off,
Speaker B: actually. Yeah, that would be kind of a nice presentation.
Speaker A: Yeah. So, anyway, if you have anything else that. That you want to contribute for the cause, I'd be happy to handle that for you. But again, thanks for doing that.
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, I like doing that. And it'll help me clear out my closet somewhat.
Speaker A: Well, I have to ask. How many more days do you have?
Speaker B: 19 work days.
Speaker A: Well, last time we talked, you had a pretty good project put on you that might. Might even keep you busy that time. Is that living up to expectations?
Speaker B: Actually, the project probably is not going to get finished or before I retire, and I already told my boss that. And he's all right with that because he. You know, I've showed a couple other people what they. What kind of information they need to gather, and they. They know how to do it. So if I don't finish it, they will, and that's perfectly fine with me.
Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. That's got to be a good feeling. So. Well, anyway, hope you really enjoy that retirement time. I know I am. Okay, well, I'll say 73 for now. I'll get the documentation finished up here. Anyway, thanks for organizing that spreadsheet. It's nice to work with it that way.
Speaker B: Not a problem. We'll talk to you later. 73.

Speaker A: Jk6vzb mobile. Hey, Chris, gonna try to reach out here. I'm in Vacaville. And a good morning to you, Ted. So, Vacavilleville, ranging a bit, huh? I didn't catch that last. Yeah, okay. You're probably being blocked by the Coast Range mountains down there. At any rate. Good morning. Good morning. And I guess we'll talk to you later.
Speaker B: Well, good morning, Chris.
Speaker A: KN6GTN and a good morning to you, Ernie. How you doing this morning? How's the weather appearing?
Speaker B: Well, you could probably guess from your vantage point. It's a beautiful day up here.
Speaker A: You can never tell whether, you know, you might have some fog up here while it's nice and sunny down here.
Speaker B: That was in December.
Speaker A: All right. Okay, we're now into the team 19. 19 days.
Speaker B: That's creeping up on you. You ready for it? You sure you're ready for it?
Speaker A: No, I'm not sure I'm ready for it. I am, but I'm not. I had a day yesterday where I, you know, I thought, well, there's just a couple of. Couple of things happen. But I thought, you know, I don't want. I just don't want to deal with the changes anymore, you know, both management style and what I have to support. And not that the management is bad, it's just. I don't. I just don't get, you know, some of their thinking.
Speaker B: It's not like it used to be. I'm talking about yesterday. I'll tell you. We showed up at work yesterday, and I don't know, it looked like there were eight vehicles out there waiting on us. There may not have been quite that many, but it was close. So our day yesterday was very interesting. We had to work through a pile of weekend breakdowns.
Speaker A: What fun.
Speaker B: Yeah, that reminds me. Back in the Midwest, especially in the springtime and in the fall, when the farmers were in the fields, we used to fix tires. It was not unusual to come to work and find a pile of tires outside your door that needed attention when you got there. Like, wow, what a welcome.
Speaker A: Yeah, I can just imagine. So, really quick question. Do you deal mostly with diesels or do you, you know, are you evenly split between gas and diesel?
Speaker B: Yeah, we are jack of all trades, except we try to avoid. We do avoid the European market. Just a total different diagnostic strategy and equipment and tools. So we've tried to let other people deal with the European, the Mercedes, BMW, Porsches, stuff like that, but. And our biggest push is the diesel pickup market. But we do work on a lot of gas.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. Just kind of curious. I, you know, I'm starting to think about maybe getting a different truck and I've heard that the early 2000 for the four Tritons are just really something you want to stay away from. What's been in your experience,
Speaker B: Anything that the three valve triton is what you want to stay away from. The 04 through 2010. 5.4. The 4.6 was always a good engine, even through those years. But the 5.4 was not. So when I was looking for a Truck I got an 03 and that 5.4 is a really, really good engine. Anything before they went three valve would be good, but then you might as well wait until after 20, till 2011 and get the new generation engines.
Speaker A: Yeah, okay. My son texted me the other day that he knows somebody that's thinking about selling their two 2006 F150 and well, I guess I'm going to have to ask them what, what engine is in it because you know, it's, it's. Apparently it's low miles and it's a super cab, which is kind of something I don't drive need a full crew cab. But a super cab would be nice. But if it's got the 5 4, I tell them no, no thank you.
Speaker B: Yeah, you want to stay away from the 5 4. I mean we can fix them as long as you're willing to pay for it.
Speaker A: Let me see, my conversion rate is like I'm, I'm assuming that like a 54 is like a 320 something and a 46 is probably more like 289 or something like that. Is that about right?
Speaker B: Yeah, that would sound dangerously close. Well, I hate to cut us off in the middle of a conversation here, but I've just pulled up to my gate. I do have some things to take care of here. There's several vehicles here this morning, so another pleasant day in store. So 73s. Chris, have a good day. We'll chat with you later at KN6GTN.
Speaker A: All right, Ernie, I'm pulling into the parking lot myself anyway, so. All right, have a great day and we'll talk to you later. KK6VZD clear.

Speaker A: JK6VZD mobile. Coming back for more or lunch? WP6A X N receiver.
Speaker B: Well, which was it, work or lunch?
Speaker A: Lunch. Unfortunately I have to go back to work.
Speaker B: Well, try to look busy. You know, it's a skill I know other people there have developed. You know, you really look at seriously concentrating all your good worker.
Speaker A: I think I'm gonna take a trip up to Brownsville and that'll help waste some time.
Speaker B: Hey, can you do that? Stop at the Gould Eagle and get a corn dog? Oh wait, you already had lunch. Sorry.
Speaker A: I can go to Brownsville and stop on my way back at Collins Lake and get some ice cream.
Speaker B: Collins Lake? You know, I used to live in Challenge and then the Xyl had property there in Brownsville across the street from the Gold Eagle.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, especially during the summertime. I don't mind making an excuse to go up to Brownville so I can come back and have some ice cream before I come home. They've got some really good ice cream.
Speaker B: Well, now wait a minute. I know a little bit about ice cream. Are we talking about home homemade or is it store bought dryers? Haagen Dazs? What?
Speaker A: Well, I don't know. They got big tubs of it. I'm assuming they buy it in, you know, in bulk. But whatever they buy, it tastes good. I'm not sure that it's. I don't think that it's made on site like they do at Brock's here in Yuba City.
Speaker B: Oh, I love homemade ice cream. Did you do that when you were growing up?
Speaker A: A little bit. Not much. Yeah, I guess it was. It was kind of just too much trouble. But yeah, it was. When we did, it was good.
Speaker B: Well, I'm gonna tell you something, Chris, but I wouldn't tell anybody else. Only because you're like a confidant.
Speaker A: Okay.
Speaker B: When I get depressed, I want.
Speaker A: Yeah, I. I mean I don't do it often, but. Oh, a couple of weeks ago I felt like I can't stay home and off to Brock they went.
Speaker B: Yeah. Well, how do you feel about German chocolate cake?
Speaker A: I absolutely love German chocolate cake. I'm not sure if you could say that that was my favorite, but probably close to it.
Speaker B: I usually don't like coconut, but I like what those old Germans did there. If you're diabetic, you can eat some sugar. What you have to do is not eat the whole piece of cake at one sitting. You have a fourth of. Okay, like six grams per hour, no more than 30 grams per day. You know this
Speaker A: I Can't do that. Somebody sets a slice of cake in front of me, I gotta eat it.
Speaker B: Hey, all right. Hey, go for it. You know, I haven't often thought. I've known a few people in my lifetime who consume whatever it is that's in front of them. Okay. It can be food, can be smoke, can be. I don't know. But I think that gets back to our days when we were tribal caveman. You kill an animal, you have to eat as much as you can because there's no way to take it with you.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Well, I tell you, I've got some. I think I probably mentioned this. I've got some new medicine and it's also an appetite suppressant. So, yeah, I find myself not being terribly hungry and sometimes not being real interested in the food that's in front of me. So I've gotten down to where, you know, either the kids portions or the senior portions are just fine for me. Whereas I used to like a really big meal.
Speaker B: Well, let me ask you this. Does it seem like food doesn't taste as good? I mean, back in the day, for example, fruit, watermelon. Oh, you get them. Oh, they were juicy, nice, full of taste. These days, you go get a watermelon, it's all dry, no taste.
Speaker A: I think that's the watermelon you got. I know there are some foods that I just. Oh, there's some peaches grown by this one orchard north of Marysville, Sidero orchard. They're O. Henry peaches. And you get them in July and August and they are absolutely to die for. I get a couple of flats and cut them up into eight and freeze them on a cookie sheet and then put them into a plastic bag and put them in the freezer and snack on them all winter long. Oh, my, Are those good?
Speaker B: Those sound good. Well, I can remember peaches with flavors, juicy. Apricots even. What do you call them, canelos or something like that. You know, they're all juicy, nice. But I don't know, I thought it was my tongue, you know, getting old. Can't taste anything.
Speaker A: Yeah, no, I think it's just the food some of you get isn't very tasty. I went to my daughter's a couple of months ago and we. We. We like to cook together. And she invited me down to. To cook and eat some caco van. Not sure if you know what coco van is. It's a French chicken stew. And oh my. I was dying because of how good it was.
Speaker B: Wow. Well, that sounds pretty amazing. I mean, that's what you call knock you out of your chair.
Speaker A: Yeah, I had to keep going back for more and more and more and more. That's how good it was.
Speaker B: Well, are you overweight?
Speaker A: A little bit.
Speaker B: A little bit?
Speaker A: I'm probably. Well, let's see now that I've had that new medicine, actually lost about 20 pounds, so I'm probably still about 10 or 15 pounds over what I should be.
Speaker B: Well, I'm 6 foot and I weigh 246. The doctor tells me to lose 30 pounds, but you know, when I'm thinner like that, like my sternum sticks out and I can't lay down very well, my body will start to hurt. Prior to that I had padding.
Speaker A: Hello? Yeah. Oh yeah, I get it, I get it. The pressure on the bones get. Gets the hurting. Yeah, I get it. Hey. Well, I've arrived. So it's a little bit early to be getting back to lunch, but I got a one o' clock phone call with my financial advisor. So we got to do something for my retirement. So I'm going to get in there and wait for his call. So I will talk to you later. I hope me talking about ice cream doesn't mean you have to rush out and get some more. But this. Do enjoy it. 73 KK6 with EZV clear.
