Speaker A: Kc6flb and the net, w7x ray zulu. Good evening lance. Should say good evening again from the zoom session. Are there any additional check ins this w7x ray zulu? Nothing heard kind of a light list tonight.
Speaker B: Anyway,
Speaker A: let us jump to the round table mode here and in order of appearance. K6HFP. John, you're leading off and from you It'll go to Ko6BGY. Paul, from you it'll go to K Kilo, Delta 7 Uniform, Hotel Foxtrot. That's Ron. Ron, you'll be passing it to Lance, KC6FLB. So John, go ahead please. K6HFP and the net, W7XZ WE6AXM receiver,
Speaker B: W7X Ray Zulu and the Net. This is John up in Orville. K6HFP. Well a good Zoom tonight. Flew by, had a good handful join and it's always good to have that conversation every, every week. Well, my week was, was fairly busy pretty much solid all week. I was, I was busy doing something between appointments and meetings and all that kind of stuff so kind of flew by. Did manage to get in enough studying for my extra so passed the test on Friday. So I'm an extra. One thing, one thing I want to say is definitely encourage anybody to upgrade as as far as they can because it's a satisfying feeling to get it over and done with. So yeah, other than that I hope everybody stays cool with the warm weather coming in and I guess that's it. Have a good week and I'll pass it over to Paul, see what he's up to. K06BGY in the net kitchen exclusion HFP. Thanks John. Congrats again on the upgrade. Kilo Oscar 6 Bravo, Golf Yankee, fall in Calusa. Not much going on, getting ready for the upcoming work week and yeah, that's about it. We'll go ahead and pass it on to Ron. KD7UHF, KO6BGY.
Speaker C: Thank you Paul. This is Ron.Kd7uHF here in Oroville and I don't have much. I'm still hobbling around with my damaged leg and working with my cane all the time. So hobbling around but don't have Much else to talk about. I got to do some yard work if I can stand up and tomorrow I gotta do some weed whacking because. Order coming in on Thursday to
Speaker A: look
Speaker C: at my water heater and that's about it. From here KD7UHF.
Speaker B: Comes over to me. Kilo Charlie six Fox and my Bravo. Yeah like I said it's like two, two times in a row last time I ended up in the hospital. I don't know if it's some kind of sign but I definitely, I definitely want to get it, get it upgraded there and soon. I could probably wait till August or I could maybe take one of the Yuba sutters or the Gears group take one of their tests and again congratulations John. Are you going to keep your original call sign or are you going to just take the Upgraded call sign K6HFP? Well there's not very many one by twos available just, just a few like they gradually come available here and there but you just got to go with what's available then it's, it's pretty tough to pick one so if I could I'd go with K6HM but that's not, not available so probably just going to stick with what I got for now at least. K6 HMP vacuum. That's what I figured. Yeah. Two upgrades on mine and I just kept the same one so. Okay, this is KC6F. I'll be back to the net.
Speaker A: Kc6flb and the net w7x ray zulu. Okay lance and and thank you all checking in tonight. Do we have any additional check ins to the net? This is w7x rays in lou,
Speaker B: kf6ew.
Speaker A: KF6EWO and the Nat W7X Ray Zulu. Good evening Gary and and glad to hear you in here tonight. And anyway we're in the roundtable mode at this point and take one please. KF6EWO and Annette, W7XZ
Speaker B: and W7XZ net. This is KF6EWO, Gary and Orville. We went out to dinner so that's what I missed the Zoom meeting and anyway did some work for the school district over the weekend. Enjoyed being a VE during Friday night testing and it was good to see several people get their license for the first time and upgrade and all that and congratulations again John.
Speaker C: Other than that not a whole lot's going on.
Speaker B: I put my vertical back up that I've been messing with and it's working pretty good. I took it down in rainy weather because it's kind of a flimsy pole that it's attached to. It's just a wire type antenna. So anyway, I mess with that. Things have been kind of slow on the radio lately. Anyway, nothing else to report.
Speaker C: So with that, this is
Speaker B: KF6ZWO back to neck control.
Speaker A: Kf6ewo and the net w7xz. Okay, gary and I'll put out one more call. Do we have any additional check ins for the net this w7x ray zulu? Well, nothing heard anyway. The high point of my week actually had a couple high points of my week. The last one being the VE session Friday night. And congratulations to John from here also. And I was happy that we had four people show up at the session and all four at least passed the test, which was good. The other high point of the week, back on Tuesday I got my dryer back which had been down for three and a half weeks or so due to a plastic squirrel cage blower about 8 or 9 inches in diameter that provided the airflow there for the dryer. And the old one, which was on the order of 45 years old, was starting to come apart at its attachment point to the motor shaft that turned it. So it's really quieted things down getting the new one in there and it was sweet music to my ears
Speaker B: and
Speaker A: well, aside from that I haven't done too much on the air. I might play a little bit on FT8 tonight after we adjourn here. Anyway, one more call for additional check ins. Do we have any additional check ins to the net? Just W7X ray zoom in. Nothing hurt. I'll run it back up the line. Does any station have additional comments for the net W7X rays? Nothing heard. Well between here and the zoom session before I think we pretty well got it done. I'll make this the last call for any late check inside or any unfinished business before we adjourn the 2 meter portion of the net and give 10 meters to drive those who can. W7X Ray Zulu.
Speaker B: We6a x n repeater.
Speaker A: Nothing heard. Thanks to all who checked in tonight. This net will convene again this coming Sunday evening at 8pm local time. This is W7X Ray Zulu signing the 2 meter portion of the Oroville Amateur Radio Society Sunday night. Net clear and going QSY to 28.450 MHz upper sideband. Good evening to all.
Speaker B: Right on Jim, thanks for running the net and thanks to everybody for their kind words tonight. Appreciate it everybody. Have a good one. We'll be clearing on the side listening for a bit. K6HFP.
Speaker A: Kk6bzd mobile. Good morning. We6a xm receiver.
Speaker B: You mean good morning to anybody who just happens to be hanging out there?
Speaker A: Yes, basically.
Speaker B: Yeah. Even. Even iwh.
Speaker A: Oh, yes. Good morning, grant. 76 iwh. 10 days. 10 working days. Count them.
Speaker B: Wait, how many I missed it? You said 14.
Speaker A: Even if it was 14, that would be good news. 10. Oh, the numbers are getting smaller.
Speaker B: And you're getting happier and happier. Wow.
Speaker A: I'd be even happier if we won't go into it.
Speaker B: Yeah, especially if you had a severance package. I mean, you know, 20, 30 grand would help out. Really?
Speaker A: I don't think the county does that. That's for corporate. I did get one of those when I was laid off from. From eds. I don't remember. I mean, it wasn't anything huge, but, you know, it was something anyway.
Speaker B: Yeah, something. You know, my son works, believe it
Speaker A: or not, really good job,
Speaker B: and he gets bonuses. But he tells me it goes into a different tax bracket, some sort of taxing, you know, irs. And he said it doesn't really work
Speaker A: out as a benefit. Oh. So they take almost as much in tax as the bonus is,
Speaker B: Roger. They take a lot of it because it's a bonus. And then the employers do that. I don't know whether they get a kickback.
Speaker A: Gee, I don't know. Yeah. In my entire working career, I think I've only gotten a couple of bonuses. And, yeah, they weren't that big. And, yeah, I think it was one of those. One of them was like a discretionary. My manager had the authority to every once in a while just say, you've done a really good job. Here's a thousand dollars.
Speaker B: You know, I worked for a guy some years ago, you know, and he was really good to the employees. He would, you know, help you out. Christmas, he gave a bonus and, you know, a turkey and stuff like that. Present. And, you know, what happened is we wanted to work hard for this guy. He really, you know, made you work, but it was okay because he helped us out.
Speaker A: Hey, a guy that knew something about managing, apparently.
Speaker B: Yeah, but he also, you know, like, go to work today and do this
Speaker A: and that when you were on your way to the lake. Sounds like you. Phil thought he was a good boss overall.
Speaker B: Well, it was. He showed a concern for the employees, which you really don't get anymore, I guess.
Speaker A: I don't know. I mean, I hear that,
Speaker B: you know, the workers just nothing, you know, cannon fodder.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, my last. It's not my last manager, but I'LL call him the evil one. He didn't, he didn't believe in managing by showing concern. He managed by threat.
Speaker B: You know, I, I wouldn't do that these days, you know, because people are actually reaching out, you know, to touch somebody.
Speaker A: Well, I tell you what, interesting. Nobody ever found out who it was. Apparently somebody within our department went out and got a burner phone and called him. And I'm not, I don't think they talked directly to him. I think they left a message on his voicemail that he was,
Speaker B: he was
Speaker A: a very evil person and deserved to be shot.
Speaker B: Oh. Oh God. Oh, yeah, that really warms your, you know, warm your heart there. You know what's ironic is these people I have known and see often in protest, you know, the anti gun people, they're so against crime. But if there's somebody they don't like, they will say, oh, that person should be shot in the face. You don't see
Speaker A: that you're part of the problem. Oh yeah, I'm just coming up on a gas station and the advertised price is $5.19 a gallon for unleaded.
Speaker B: I filled up a couple of gas cans, put some. What is this, St lube or I don't know, the additive, you know, so, hey, now I'm happy. Gee, I've got five gallons of gas.
Speaker A: Wow. Oh yeah. Well, I gotta say it hasn't gone up in a couple of days. It shot right up there to that price. Was it late last week and it hasn't gone any further. So I guess I'm happy for that.
Speaker B: Well, you know, there are certain people in our society that are very well off and your concerns don't bother them at all. You know, you have to live and
Speaker A: eat and all like that.
Speaker B: They don't care.
Speaker A: Oh yeah, I know, I know. So, so back to the. I remember when I was where I had the. Gone to Germany with, with our group from my. Yeah, I was overseas with a small unit and we went to Germany and this is the mid-90s and when we did it was about $5 a gallon back then over there.
Speaker B: I understand in Germany all the cars come up to a stoplight or stop on the freeway and the engine, engine shuts off, light turns green, they hit the button, starts up and they go
Speaker A: and they're all like that. I don't know, haven't heard that maybe. I actually hate that.
Speaker B: We have.
Speaker A: I don't have one personally like that, but we've got a county vehicle drive every once in a while and it's like That I absolutely hate that. Fortunately, there's a button that I can hit to turn that off, but unfortunately I can't turn it off, so that whenever I get in the car, it's automatically turned off.
Speaker B: You know, it reminds me of my relationship with technology. I don't get it. Things happen, you know, the phone, Android phone. Hey, I'm so lucky. There's stuff that comes on, you can't shut it off.
Speaker A: There's ads, there's, you know, download this,
Speaker B: do that, do this.
Speaker A: Really?
Speaker B: I'm ready to bang my head against the wall again. Yeah.
Speaker A: Well, I found one of my old phones. It's probably at least 15 years old. And it was just a phone. Well, it was a cell phone, but it wasn't a smartphone. I could make a phone call with it and I could text messages with it, and that's basically all I could do. Oh, and take pictures and, you know, that's all I cared about. And if I had to go back to one of those, I wouldn't see me crying. W E6A X A and repeater.
Speaker B: Well, you know, just for information, Chris, the medical people all want to text, you know, the doctor, whoever, right? The hospital, the pharmacy, and they insist sometimes that you accept the text and
Speaker A: read it and respond and.
Speaker B: Hey, I'm busy.
Speaker A: Yeah, yep, I know, I know. Well, here I am to start my, my countdown week. 10, 9, 8, 7. So. So I'm in the.
Speaker B: I'm at 10.
Speaker A: So I'm in the countdown. So I will talk to you later. Have a great day. 73 KK6VZV.
Speaker B: Clear.
Speaker A: Kk6vzd mobile. For a few minutes anyway. W E6A X N receiver.
Speaker B: Well my God. And then look who shows up on a wonderful iw.
Speaker A: So I'm sitting over going to the sheriff's department at the railroad crossing for something I haven't had to do for a while.
Speaker B: What? What are you. You going to jail or something?
Speaker A: Over to the sheriff's department to pick up the laptop. So I figure since I'm sitting here just waiting for the train, I might as well talk to somebody,
Speaker B: You know. That's wonderful. I've always wanted to be somebody.
Speaker A: Yes, well, now you are. So actually this isn't too bad. I'm on my little UV 5 mini in a vehicle and I'm not. Am I terribly scratchy?
Speaker B: Well, just don't move around and hold the antenna vertically.
Speaker A: Stick my tongue out and move it to just the right position and tilt my head and everything should be okay, right?
Speaker B: You know, I wasn't thinking of anything
Speaker A: that involves our mouth but it sounds
Speaker B: fun if you like it.
Speaker A: Yeah. Okay. Well, there goes the tail end of the train. I miss seeing cabooses. I know they haven't had them forever in a day, but I miss seeing them.
Speaker B: I grew up for a while next to railroad tracks. You know, even back then when I was a kid I thought there's this, I don't know, romantic quality to the train thundering through listening to all the cars going clickety clack. Back then they had you know rail to the seamless like now.
Speaker A: All times of the day and night and yes I recognize it. Clickety clack, clickety clack, clickety clack and you can. There was a free train coming through that was reeling down.
Speaker B: A friend in is really loading town. What.
Speaker A: Signal has degraded since I'm behind metallic rail fence here. Oh well yeah when the train was freeze freely loaded and sent the from the through the town it would rattle the.
Speaker B: We had uphill downhill obviously you know freight trains would struggle to get up they heal for that night the passenger trains coming down whoopy they were flying and I'm sure I mean it was pretty straight track but I'm sure they had to be hitting a.
Speaker A: Oh, I'm sure, I'm sure. Where was this?
Speaker B: My old hometown Valentine, Arizona. Right next to Hackberry and the big city Kingman.
Speaker A: Whoa.
Speaker B: I went to school for a while in Kingman elementary school but didn't really like the place that much. Okay.
Speaker A: All right. Well yeah I can imagine the you know if you were not far. Great.
Speaker B: Well you know one day, if you're ever just so bored. You get on and you say, peter, I'm so bored. Tell me something boring. I'll tell you about my parents divorcing and, you know, living in Valentine. Then later we moved. Exciting stuff. Really?
Speaker A: Yes. All right.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: So I'm going to go inside. I'm going to lose the signal. Calculator 73.
Speaker A: K6hfp.w6p.h.
