GEARS W TX (146.115 MHz) recordings for 2026-01-06

K0qg, m7khj. Rick, how you doing? It's K0QG. I got it right this time. Amazing. Yeah, I heard you come in on scan and I'm out here northwest and was on photo seeing them on a portable. Long story short, had to switch to Angels. Took a minute to call you back. So how you been? Oh, Ben, excellent. I do try to conduct tests, but two handhelds side by side. Even at low power, one drowns out the other. So listening back to see if there was a quality difference between the two met with negative results. So I have to figure out some way to test to see if there's a difference between the two radios. Even though they're made by the same manufacturer. Yeah, the old A B test. Yeah, I learned that I was doing that on DMR one time as I was driving. I'm like, I know I have, like, why can't I hear it? I realized I was desensing the other radios. So what you can do is separate them by probably a room or the length the of room and just crank the volume up on the other one. You'll definitely hear it. How about if I take the lazy man's way out so I don't get feedback and disturb myself? I don't think there would be a delay. But you hear this one and I'll go ahead and pick up the other one and see if you can tell if there's a discernible difference between the two. Okay. Now, I do have a little like path fading. It's very slight, so be advised of that. I would make sure and test them from the same exact location utilizing the same posture. All right, if that was you, I had terrier, no audio. There was, you know, the DMR that it defaulted CS7000 M17. And I'm going to go to CS750. All right, copy that. So that sounded fine. This would be the CS750. If there's a total difference, can you tell the difference between the two? This is the old grandfather of the CS7000. Yeah. So that one right there sounds fine. And if you were on the other one prior to that, that sounded good too. At one point there was a section with no audio. I wonder what that was. But okay. Well, thanks. Como check. And much appreciated. I don't spend much time on analog any longer, but we'll check in for the net. Got one tonight, Wednesday. But other than that, all is well. Thank you for checking in. Okay. Sounded pretty much the same and they Both sound good. WB6JKV Mobile Hill, San Jose. I had another gentleman in there that I heard him say that both radios through and mobile were quite the same. Much appreciated as well. I thank you for that. Probably not a good ear simply because pouring down rain and a lot of background noise in the car and here's what it sounds like. Yeah, Flyro sitting at home in my easy chair. That would be a better check, but sounds good. All right, back to sloshing WB6JKV mobile fan Hosey. Thank you so much for the accomplishment. Jack. Have yourself an awesome afternoon and stepping straight to you from K0QT.

Hey, Lou, how you doing up there? Thought of a static. I'm sure it's my antenna. Had some trouble getting this thing working. Freedom right now. I'm not going to complain. It's like 53 here. Although it feels colder. And we didn't get any rain down here today. It's a little bit disappointing. Then it went away. Just a lot of chores done. So back to you. Everybody's really long right now. Way for the last, I don't know, three weeks. At some point it's going to change the other way. Back to you, Sa. That sounds good. Getting your full power up there. I got my little Midland HD in the mail and got a program. I haven't heard anything other than the Weather Channel. But hopefully when we meet up next week, we can chat on that. Those little radios. Back to you, K6 ship. Over. That sounds good. I don't know on this end. On the receive, I got a lot of like popping noise, like almost like popcorn. How's my receive up there in Reno? I'm hooked up to my little elk yaging tent out here. I probably just move it around and find a little sweet spot to get up on that mountaintop to hit the repeater up there. I don't think I'm ideal, but it was pretty cold outside. So he's kind of moving around, just eyeballing it. Real quickly, We'll talk and about our plans for what can happen soon. Next week. Talk to you later. 86, SA2 clear.

Speaker B: Good morning, Ralph. How you doing? See you on your way. Work or a meeting or something?
Speaker A: Ken, good morning. Yeah, I'm just at the house. Early morning meeting on the air force base with some dudes. Half an hour, I guess. But they got their duty stuff out. They claim they're undermanned so they have only one of the dangers during rush hour, which is crazy. So whatever. So I'm off doing that couple of things I got to wrap up today. I'm gonna be out of town for a few days. What are you up to?
Speaker B: I was just sitting here thinking about what I'm gonna make for breakfast. Then we're gonna head out, do some shopping. We keep getting bursts of heavy rain. Wife doesn't like to leave the house when it's raining. But I don't care. I don't care if it's raining or not. So anyways, we have to do some shopping, go up on the hill. I call it up on the hill. Up on the hill to grab a couple of more hanging plants because he wants to get small plants. So we may have ourselves a busy day and a good lunch out somewhere.
Speaker A: Good deal. Like a productive relaxing day. I could eat a couple of. The relaxing part, Harry is just Absolutely, absolutely. You know what insane are on here anymore than I am. Anyways. Yeah. You know, I was. I need to send you some wav files one of these days. I've been tracking. We talked about it a while ago. It seems like some of the. Some of the links have really, really continued. I'll get out another one. Sound really good. I don't know if that's all star related with cards I'd be put in and the emphasis or something or just all the links and the way things are all connected.
Speaker B: Yeah, it could be some adjustments that we'll have to do.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: So yeah, send me. Send me some of that. Did your IP address change on your scanner? I tried the scanner the other day and looked like maybe the IP address may have changed.
Speaker A: No, the IP address didn't change. The dumbass and Russ has messed something up. I know what I did wrong. I got to get in there. Six. I'll do that. So maybe I'll do that tonight. But I don't. That was 100% self induced by yours truly.
Speaker B: Okay. It's always nice to have somebody to blame something on. But in your case, it doesn't sound like you do. All right. Yeah. If you need more gate guards there, just grab a holster and throw a Rifle over your shoulder and volunteer your services for a couple of hours a day should you have time. Right.
Speaker A: Well, what kills me is it's just a matter of not being efficient. I'll leave it at that. But they've got people hanging around doing nothing, you see, all the time. Even when they have that one gay man, they have like one person actually checking IG's with his trusty M16 or whatever they carry these days and doing whatever. And you have four guys in the shack just shooting the shit on their cell phone. So I'm like, what the, you know, where's the adult leadership at? But whatever. You throw stones from outside the door, right? Anyways. But it just causes a huge pile up, especially during the busy time for the day.
Speaker B: Yeah, there you go.
Speaker A: Our
Speaker B: facility, or our complex or whatever you want to call it, administration contacted us the other day. They're putting together these little RF tags that just stick to your windshield. And they have a, they have a real thin LED thing in there. So when you pull in the gate and the RF reader reads it, that little LED in there turns on and turns green and lets the security know visually that your vehicle and you're allowed to be in. And then it's tamper proof. So if you go to remove it at all, it tears and no longer works. But yeah, pretty, pretty cool. They do have a camera that reads the license plate so the license plates can be pulled off. Anyways, these things, these security, security here, they're very thorough and they drive their motorcycles around here all night long with bright flashlights in there. They do a really good job. Very impressed. The winner needs to be it. We don't need the kind of security that they offer, but now they, they, they still give it to us.
Speaker A: Oh, that's great. Yeah, that is good. I remember W70QF. Matt used to live here in Phoenix. Now he lives in the community where they had that type of stuff too. That was nice. But yeah, you're depending on what's going on. And so you know, if you have like anywhere near tinted windows, you need to roll all your windows down so you can look at the back seat, make sure there's nobody back there or whatever. It's kind of ridiculous, but every now and again they'll pull people over and have them get out, do whatever. You then check and pop open the trunk, do whatever on it. But all depends on what's going on right now. It's kind of tame, but anyways, what else?
Speaker B: That's about it.
Speaker A: I still trying to figure out that whole pass TTMS through a node deal. I talked to a few people and found out, you know, you can do it via macros, you know, execute from the server going out, but that doesn't really give me the flexibility I need. So all the All Star documentation I've seen said it should work, but it doesn't. So I'm not sure what's going on in vlog. If you ever break that code, let me know.
Speaker B: Yeah, still trying. I spent most of the day trying to get this DTMS stuff to work on from the skywarn alert script. I gave up. I just turned off alert script and gave up on it. So that that other hub, that other Carla hub does the guy warnings yet. That'll just be connected all the time. I've got too much. Too much time and seeing the failure, so I just got to give up on it. Yeah, if we ever get that code cracked, we'll certainly let you know. I don't.
Speaker A: All of that stuff is kind of
Speaker B: beyond my, you know, beyond my page. All I know about is All Star, so why it's not passing through All Star. I don't think it's on the All Star side. I think it's on the receiver side. But kudos. Tom and his guys, they certainly know more about that than I do. And if we as a whole will figure it out, we'll let you know. All right, I'll let you go. I'm sure you're probably getting close. Close.
Speaker A: And
Speaker B: I'm going to get up, go make some breakfast so we can get out of here early. Talk to you later. And 6p head out to Columbia.
Speaker A: Okay, Dan, good to shout. Good to talk to you. Make sure to shut up and have a productive date There at 7:00pm Vegas clear.

Good morning, s. It's grg 36 local.

Speaker A: N6grg with an echo kn6mgk.
Speaker B: Well, I thought so that was from a distance, but now. Now I see it's just a weak, weak transmitter.
Speaker C: Well, that's not good. This is the. Should be a. Should be a good signal.
Speaker B: Yeah, Q4. Lots of white noise. Good enough. So, no. Yeah, I think it just must be path.
Speaker C: Well, I'm looking at the power and it's showing almost 5 watts. So I don't know what to think.
Speaker A: Yeah, it just reminds me of not adding
Speaker B: enough power to it. So a lot of white noise. So if everything else is the same, then it must be just propagation right now.
Speaker C: Well, you're good here. But I haven't looked at the. Let's see. Well, that was funny. I thought I saw it actually change. Oh, I'm seeing iswr. Well, now it's not high expected
Speaker A: sa.
Speaker C: Now it's high power. Now it's five watts. Well, it
Speaker B: still sounds the same to me. Still sounds the same to me.
Speaker C: Get out. Look at
Speaker A: that antenna.
Speaker C: Maybe it fell down or something.

Speaker A: Well, don't know if you're still there. You're checking the antenna or whatever, but curious if you have any plans today after all that rain.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I'll probably do some construction.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was looking at the. This thing came up on Facebook, actually, like a WX spotter. And he showed kind of a forecast over the next 14 days. And so temperatures look above normal and precipitation looks about normal. So right now on Underground 7 days looks like mostly all partly cloudy days for the next week. I don't know if you can really predict seven days out right now. But on seven days out, they show mostly sunny. But anyway. So we get a break. A week break at least.
Speaker B: Yeah. The main thing I'm looking forward to is a lot of solar, And I've got high swr.
Speaker A: Yeah, you better fix that. I guess.
Speaker B: Not right now. It's still a little dark outside.
Speaker A: Yeah. But at least you know I'm telling you the truth. I wouldn't lie about something like that. Anyway, if someone's truly not sounding like they normally do, which is the case.
Speaker B: Oh, I was just puzzled. I'm on the rad cowl, but that doesn't make any difference if the antenna is not. And I've got a pretty good idea. It's probably just come loose up there. You know, I need to re. Screw in the SO239 or whatever it is. Yeah, I think it's SO239. PL259.
Speaker A: How high is it?
Speaker B: Oh, it's on a mast. I can't reach it. I have to lower the mast and then do the work and then put it back. Yeah.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. Do you put anything over the SO239, like when you tighten it down, like any sort of water resistance?
Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Plus it's got. This antenna's got a aluminum. Aluminum thing on it. Hang on. Echo X ray tangles coming in from Mexico. Just a second here.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Go get them. All right. Maybe I'll turn on 40 meters, see how it sounds. KN6MGK.
Speaker B: There's more than one person answering him, so I won't worry about it for another minute here. But yeah, I'm gonna have to lower the mask and, you know, fix it. If it was a tower, it would sure be a lot easier. Or a telephone pole or something. I'd rather climb than lower the mat. I just got through fixing part of my big loop. I still have a little bit more work to do on that, but. Yeah, I mean, I could spend half the day doing antenna work.
Speaker A: Yeah, I could, too. Lots of stuff to be doing around here, but. Yeah, I'm hearing, I'm hearing 40 meters. Okay. But everyone's still pretty light to me.
Speaker B: Well, I was going to answer, but. Oh, well, I'll wait. Yeah, bugs me. I didn't turn the connection. I. I thought I had it all really set up well, and it come loose again. But that huge, you know, the big windstorm has a lot to do with that.
Speaker A: Do you think other connectors are better, like the end connector?
Speaker B: No, it'll be the just loose, unscrew yourself because it's on a mast and the mast twists a little bit with the wind and so forth. So. Yeah. And you know, I had it all. I thought I had it all mechanically tightened down and everything, but with that much wind. Oh, well.

Speaker A: Oh well, they're going to spend a bunch of time talking about nothing.
Speaker B: Well if you want to know the truth, at least what I think a lot of ham radio is like that. I think a lot of the weather information is pretty worthless that people talk about on ham radio all the time. So not for the marine net, that's different. But yeah, you hear people talk about it a lot. So even on the Chabasco net we'll mention their weather at their house and stuff like that. They might be in Arizona or Nevada somewhere. Has totally no relationship almost to marine. But anyway, that's beside the point. This is ham radio topics. It's something that's fairly worthless about. People talk about their ailments, illnesses and weather. I don't like either of the two topics really.
Speaker A: Yeah, they spend a lot of time talking about it, you know, giving out every single teeny tiny detail, which is ridiculous.
Speaker B: Yeah, take a look at. The stuff that I would be interested more in is like, like let's say space weather, you know, that's the solar information and stuff like that that has to do with ham radio propagation. A lot more so I think than many of these weather storms. And then you know, how about, if you're going to talk about weather, how about, let's talk about like the El Nino, La Nina, the effects long range forecast for certain areas or how about the hurricane season, you know, what's the prognosis for that? Although that probably doesn't matter to us too much on the west coast. But still those are topics that I'd be more interested in in weather instead of just you know, what temperature is it? Is it raining in your neck of the woods?
Speaker A: Well, regarding hurricanes, like if I knew somebody was going to be out in a certain part of the Pacific pretty soon, I might want to let them heads up, you got a hurricane coming. And then the other would be if, if you happen to have a serious weather warning like I did, I have had it. I have it right now as a matter of fact. I have a flood warning still. They were going to cancel it at 4 yesterday and they upped it again for a few days.
Speaker B: Yeah, well that's another topic. So flood warnings is another thing. Or flood watches. Yeah, like that, those, that information makes sense to disseminate, you know, potentially help, help people keep them away from areas maybe.
Speaker A: Yeah, and, and one could say talk about like Highway 5 shutdowns which we just had one the other day yesterday I think it was.
Speaker B: Yeah, well over Here on Highway 99 it's the same thing you know it came up see another good bit of information like you know Highway 99 or road closures there's always road closures that happen around our state but yeah that the information like people could say hey if you're headed to Tahoe, you know you might carry your chains or something there's restrictions starting at wherever it is, you know I don't know. So yeah that, that kind of weather related information that helps people I'm cool with but not the standard old, you know it's you know 49 degrees and so on but that's what we do Ham radio that's what we do Talk about the weather and going to the doctor.
Speaker A: Okay, I'm gonna switch over to 7192 they finally called for me so I'm gonna talk to him for a little bit. N6 GRT I'll see you a little bit.
Speaker B: All right Happy net to you. I'm listening Kilo November 6th Mike Golf Kilo is just monitoring.

Speaker A: Yeah, Ken, that's about the worst
Speaker B: signal I've ever heard.
