Speaker A: Sa.
Speaker B: MVP
Speaker A: attacks you during the dirt, man. More power. System 32 link up. It.

Kn6mzk Mobile paradise.

Speaker A: Hey, steve, you still here? N6trg.
Speaker B: Kn6NGK mobile monitoring. 20 minutes about what's going on there, Mike?
Speaker A: Oh, I was just doing a little research and stumbled into something that's really cool. A lot of places I go to, mostly on my E bike, that were completely different back in the time that this document was written about. Back in the old mining days.
Speaker B: Oh yeah. Did they find much gold up that way? Yeah, I imagine everything was different back then. Huh. What's that about 175 years ago?
Speaker A: Well, the guy that made the original discovery was credited for starting the gold rush of 1849.
Speaker B: So yeah, he started the gold rush. There wasn't somebody else over this way, like I've heard, like Sutter's Fort in that area?
Speaker A: Nope, not according to this document. His name was Reading and he was credited for the starting the whole thing. And old Shasta was listed as Shasta City back then on the map.
Speaker B: Now, I heard about Mr. Reading before, I thought, but I think it was from you. But anyway. So do you know the history of Shasta City then? I mean, in other words, Mount Shasta? Of course we know in the distance. But why would you call that place Shasta City? It wasn't that close to Mount Shasta. Right. In comparison to other cities that are there today?
Speaker A: Well, I'd have to dig up the grave of Mr. Reading and DNA on his brain to figure that out, but. Or find some historian. This is kind of an older document and it's a PDF. I doubt that those people that wrote it are still alive.
Speaker B: No, interestingly enough, my grandma used to go around and try to study different things and write little books and things like that. She would try to sell them in the local stores over there around. What do they call that now, around. Well, mountain Gates where they're from. But that area, that's close there. That town that's close there. That might be like Lake Shasta City or something. Yeah, Anyway, but so she had a few of her books and things in there, but they were little, kind of almost like a pamphlet. And we never did very well. Of course, people didn't care about local history at that point Time. I don't think.
Speaker A: The. Document is called the Interlaked document, but Shasta Lake did. And Whiskeytown Lake didn't exist back then. So I'm not sure exactly why it was called the Interlake Document.
Speaker B: Coincidentally, it was probably right around 60 or maybe even up to 65 degrees. I don't know. I'd have to look it up. It's Paradise. Nice, beautiful sunshine. I did take a picture, didn't think nothing of it. But now that I'm rolling down into paradise 48 degrees and fog is about a quarter mile visibility.
Speaker A: Oh wow. Well, completely different here. I've been out in and out walking and taking it in. It's beautiful up here. Sorry to see tell you that but yeah, we haven't had fog in a while, knock on wood.
Speaker B: Well, I don't don't want to portend anything but we didn't have any yesterday and I heard it was headed this direction so maybe it'll stop around here somewhere. It wasn't bad last night. There was a little bit of patchiness. We are driving from Oroville back into Chico so. So you never know. I think we before you did last time so could be headed your way.
Speaker A: Well, you know one of my things that I need to be doing and I took a break on it today but one of the things will be getting the, the pi4b that's in the S bits operational and I asked. Gone if. If he could give me the settings in his establish and got a real funny question from him because you know these pies all run raspy and he was saying well what is, what system are you running? Yeah, it's, you know, it's the same piece of Girish if he's got a version version passive but you know, I don't know why he would have trouble figuring that out. In fact what I think is happening with that, that particular version is it's got even got jf. But I think what I'm gonna do since I got such a strange question is try to talk with the owner of the company that built it because I. He's a friend on, you know, I've connected with him so. So I might be able to get directly to him.
Speaker B: Well, he's probably asking you what operating system is on there or something maybe. I mean Raspbian is just the underlying kernel I think. And then you know, like on cam4ack he was putting on the Debian bullseye that was part of the instructions. So that was the operating system that you were running at that point. So it was a Debian based operating system. And then he would overlay it, you'd go on GitHub and get his PI build at the time, which now he's changed it to 73 Linux.
Speaker A: Right.
Speaker B: So I'm sure that's kind of the area that Don's asking you because it's pretty important. But anyway, it sounds like he wants to Help you? I don't know much about what you're up to because I don't know the S bits. But you're saying it runs on a pi4B and what the radio is like attached to it or is it inserted in the USB ports or something? How does the radio work off the 54B?
Speaker A: It's actually plugged right into the radio. It's got a special place on the board and it plugs right into the board. And the same is going to happen with his. The same thing. He just got one version beyond. And what they did with his version by the time they got to his version is they had box there, they had put it in a box, things like that. You know, he may have never ever really looked at the ply. I mean, unless you. Well, yeah, he would. Well, you know, he might not have because that particular version has a display on it. So you don't know necessarily look right at the Linux.
Speaker B: Yeah. Box being around it and everything. I don't know. So on those aesthetics, do you build them or do they come build. I was thinking, you know, knowing him, he likes to build things. So I would think he has to build it. So then that means what you have to put in your own software and stuff or is it already. Already done?
Speaker A: They just hand you a Micro SD and you plug it into the. To your PI. Although there were different versions by the time that one came out. And it may have had the. You could buy them with a PI installed and the Micro SD installed into that PI. So I don't know which one. He got the one when I bought it. I don't think you could do that. You had to install your own PI
Speaker B: and
Speaker A: they may have had one that was boxed and so forth, I don't know. But I didn't buy it. I bought a board that has a big old piece of plastic on one side so that nothing gets shorted out, I guess. And you had to remove this clear plastic off and Then plug the PI 4G in there and stick the micro SD chip into that. The backside has a huge heat sink on it.
Speaker B: Yep. It sounds like everything you're doing is complicated. I don't know why, but anyway, I was just thinking, you know, take your 7100 and give it a try. You know, you'd probably want to put JS8 on it anyway. So I thought that would be a good idea. That way you could cancel out like if the computer's having any sort of a problem or anything. If you could get that going on there And I realized it may be installed or whatever. So hopefully you have quick connects on the tower leads and things like that. I don't know. That was just my thoughts and I don't know, I guess, I guess that's complicated too.
Speaker A: Well, now, you know, something similar to that could be done. What I would do is take my. I have a case for. I think a pi4b would fit in and I'll make a copy of this SBITX Micro sd. And all it is is a Linux system and you have to click on SBITX to use that part of it. And if you don't click on sbitx, then everything is there, all the programs are. FTA there. I added JSA Call and it's in, it's. It's in the menu. I don't remember putting it in the menu. It might have just added itself somehow, I don't know. It didn't have JSA Call when I, when I got it, I had to put it in and a bunch of other little programs, one of which is in fact aesthetics is the only one that's on the desktop of the pod. And so they want to make it so, you know, well, you got to click on that, but you don't have to. If you're not hooked up to an aesthetics, you don't have to. The thing is, is that the installations were all designed for the Aspidix radio. So if I were to. Try to run the 7100 on that system, I would have to change the installation. I could, you know, I could run JSA call, but I'd have to change all the configurations and everything. For FT8 and for JSA call and for FT digits, I have to change everything.
Speaker B: Yep, that's pretty much what I have to do almost every, every time I operate. So you get to memorizing these settings and things. But I am fortunate that I've been using yaesu. So I've got four different radios or whatever, but they're all yaesu so similar. But you have to change the radio and the audio codecs are different, the COM ports are different a lot of times. So that does take me a couple minutes when I first get to a. A pod, a site or whatever and I want to run say FT8 or something. So I get what you mean. And yeah, it's just the way it is now. There's ways around that though. People are saving profiles and stuff like that now and at least in FT8, probably not JSA, but so you can easily navigate over or Like CAM for hdk, he likes to use flrig, so. So that makes it. So it's a little simple, at least for him.
Speaker A: Yeah, I might use one of those. Start out with FT8 and then switch over to JS8 and you know, once I had FT8 running on a 7100, then I see I could, I could reciprocate this not just for the 7100, I could do it for the 7300 and I had it working at one time and the, you know, I could probably get that going again. But I thought, well, I spent all this money on this, I should make it work. You know, in fact, it might already work. So. Yeah, but I tried to make it work for jsa, which wasn't already on. And see, that's the problem. I think I could make it run with FT8 as it is. It should be up and running.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, it's something to try. Yeah. I mean, if you already have that program on and it's all configured and all you got to do is just click on, you know, WSJTX or something, I don't know. But nowadays the WSJTX software has been upgraded too. I think I'm even using the one back of the most current version. I'm using the WSJTX improved and I think they actually have one more ahead of it now, so I'd have to upgrade. Reluctant to do so because I'm kind of used to the way it is now. And I don't think the new upgrade is much different. Improved some things I don't remember what. Probably something in the user interface.
Speaker A: Yeah, I think it could be the same committee that wrote the JS8 improved version. They started this committee of writers because, you know, most likely Ashar didn't want to rewrite it and the guy that wrote JS8 is nowhere to be found. And I don't know what's going on with FDA, the writers of FT8. I don't know whether they're around or not. But yeah, it is interesting that FT8 improved is out there and JS8 improved is also out there.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's kind of night and day too, in terms of operation. I mean, really the only thing that JSH going for it right now is the whole, you know, the whole storing forward, basically, because even the relay stuff, I mean, if a person isn't there, you know, it's pretty tough. I mean, yeah, you can relay messages. So relay messages and store and forward type messages. That's the main benefit right now of JS8, I think.
Speaker A: Yeah. And I've got communications via relays through Australia. I've told you about this before through Australia to the UK and other places. And you know, I like the relay function. I have stations in, in Fairbanks and if they're, if I'm not able to hear other Alaska stations and they can, then I can relay to those other Alaska stations. So pretty cool. But right now seems like all the Alaska guys are out traveling and getting away from the snow and traveling except for one. He's a pastor up there. And sometimes I can communicate with him and it bugs me that JSA is not working because I can't communicate with him right now. But I'll get it.
Speaker B: Yeah, I can always pass in the message for you if that's the only mode you've got. All right, I've arrived. So I need to say 7, 3. I'll listen to your final K and 6 MGK.
Speaker A: Yeah, if you're, if your station was running I could put a message in your mailbox. But of course that's the thing. Whoever like, like you said you were trying to put a message in for me. That, you know, if you were going to be the guy that he took the message out of your mailbox, your station would have to be on all the time. That's all I'm saying. So you were looking for one that was on all the time so you could put a message on there for me. The same goes for that guy. And it has to be a station that's capable of picking up Fairbanks too. That's another thing. And Fairbanks is sometimes 40, but we ended up doing most of everything on 20. Anyway. Sounds like you're getting close to someplace. Dan 6 GRG.
Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'm just saying. Yeah. If you needed to get a message over to him, let me know. I would have to just look, do the same thing like I was doing for you. Yeah. I have to know his call sign and I have to look around where I think he can get into from Alaska or something or maybe, you know, a station already and then I'll leave it in that box for him. Yeah. So it can be done. That's actually good practice. I'll Talk at you later. 73kn6MGK.

Real quick. One guy is KL7R, and I don't know if they're communicating or not right now, although he is on I. I have him in my alert KL7R. So he is on JS8 but not 24. 7, see? So you'd have to catch it when he's on. So he's like. I say he's in. I think it's Prospect, Arizona. Alrighty. Talk to you later in.

Speaker A: Los Angeles link up.
Speaker B: Jkb, was that you?
Speaker A: Yeah, you heard?
Speaker B: MVP for a while.
Speaker A: I think that's him pushing buttons. I should at Least throw an ID out there, huh? N6QOP testing.
Speaker B: Oh, it's that one. Okay.
Speaker A: Is that. It must be because there's white noise on you. Oh, who's that? Jkd. Yep. I thought I recognized the voice. Hang on just one second. Oh, nope.
Speaker B: Big take up in the company today. I was just. Haven't heard Tom for a while. I was gonna check and see where he's at.
Speaker A: Sorry about that. Okay, I'm back. Yeah, we're just hooking up down here in Los Angeles. Greg, there's your answer. Yeah, they're up on the big mountain down there in la, so. Yeah,
Speaker B: okay. You know, send them a couple of text messages. Heard nothing back, so just wanted to make sure he wasn't on the list.
Speaker A: See that boy? He's in la.
Speaker B: I was hoping I only got six more weeks, but document they passed over me.
Speaker A: I think he's going down for some dumbness or some show or something like that. So while, while we're going south, hey, let's stop and put All Star up on the mountain so I have solid LA coverage.
Speaker B: Yeah, there you go. I gotta move a bunch of my stuff over to. Moving my main repeater over to Vaca and moving my hub over there too. I got a little bit of work ahead of me.
Speaker A: And up on Montero Mountain where 32 is one of the poles of the four poles. Antenna structure, you know, tower, whatever. One of the poles snapped the last storm we had, so American Tower tried to replace all four of them. So we have. We'll be going through some changes. I think I'm going to replace my antenna at the same time.
Speaker B: So.
Speaker A: Yeah, fun for one, fun for all. Sounds like you're having more fun. Yeah.
Speaker B: This should allow me to bring Reno back online. But I was in Tahoe last week and I checked the Reno repeaters up, but the link's not there anymore. That link antenna already got destroyed once and I hope my brand new one didn't get destroyed, but I couldn't hear the link at all from Tahoe, so. Yeah, not a good sign.
Speaker A: Dave, when is this getting started?
Speaker B: Yeah, I know I'm gonna have to talk to a friend of mine that's got one of the fire cameras up there, see if he can get around and look at the building and see what's left of it.
Speaker A: Yep, probably pointed right at the ground
Speaker B: the last one was, and it was one of those bulletproof Scalas. This is just one of the little antenna things. It's probably halfway to Sparks by now.
Speaker A: Is that the Scala with the dome?
Speaker B: Nope, this is what's inside the dome, I think is the little ones that have a. That are solid in the middle and have those big beefy elements on it. It was a five element uhf. It'd been up there for quite a few years, but it finally. Something finally took it out. It was pointed about a 45 degree angle to the ground and Tom tried to straighten it and it just snapped.
Speaker A: I hate it when that happens.
Speaker B: Yeah, it almost might have to be this summer before I get up there and do anything about it. All right, I'll let you go till all the rumors are flying and heads are falling and all kinds of good stuff around here.
Speaker A: So catch you later, J. Tex. Heads are falling or heads are rolling? Okay, a little bit of both. All right. Sitting here listening. Hope you're be the JTV fan, Husy.

Hey, jeff.

All right, this is K6CQP up here near Sacramento. Just wanted to say how cool it was to have a repeater system that goes from SAC to la.

Huntington Beach. Anybody out there? Copy, Huntington Beach. You're loud and clear. Okay, where are you located? This is ken m6kne. I am in chinata, columbia. Okay, that's testing I was going to do. You must have some access to the system here. Doing some testing here. Okay. Get the thing mixed up here. Okay, so apparently I'm on the system. See if I can go direct W6BRP goofing around here. This should be local. One, two, three. Yeah. Yep. I'm hearing you in San Jose. Yeah. You're not hear me at San Jose. Don't know if it's on the local system. Service monitors giving me some strange readings here for some reason. You're on the link. They're. They're up there on Santiago working on things. So they link the link and the locus. Okay. There's technicians up there playing around. Okay, very good. Trying to fix it. W6BRP, Huntington Beach. Thank you. The good news is it sounds like you're right here in the Bay area. So keep up. Good work, 73. Delving your feet with JKV. Hard at work at Angry Ski Bay Area. Hey, a station that was in Huntington Beach. What was your call and first name? Name is buck. It calls W6B or B. Type confirmed. Buck, I haven't heard you on my repeater in a long time. Wa6 yre. Okay, Fred. Didn't sound like you. For some reason, the audio sounded a little different. But that second time you came around, it did sound like Fred. Yeah. We're up here working on the repeater, trying to get the link and everything working. First time was Tom. He's the owner of the system. Talk to you later. We've got a lot of stuff to do up here. Wa6yre. Santiago. Okay. If you need me to take a look at it, whatever you're doing now, the output, I can do that, but that. I think I'll go have some lunch. Take care, Fred. See you later, Buck. WD6 wiring. Fred, it sounds like the All Star side of things is working properly. Sounds like the audio is great. Great. So we may have knocked this out the first try. N6 can. I'll be listening. We haven't set levels. Haven't said anything yet. We're still working on getting stuff fixed. We'll be back later. WA6 wiring. Jkv, you still here? Go ahead. I guess it's working, huh? So just be advised, you know, there's gonna be some confusion here as things are going on and off and people are jumping in and out and we're gonna disconnect and reconnect and whatever. So just do me a favor. When I actually call for a radio check, you know, I need one, make sure there's somebody up there that can do it, okay? You know how it goes. Oh, do I ever, man. That's the least I could do for you, dude. I'll be around, then when I go to lunch, I'll strap you on. So I think, you know. All right, that was tmi, but thank you anyway. It's actually shouting, you know, pretty good. I haven't really looked at anything yet, but for plugging it in, first time, I'm actually surprised, but anyhow. All right, back to stuff here. N6 mpg. Oh, you might want to answer your text from Greg. Says heads are flying all over the place at work, so don't know if you've been in the loop or not, but you might want to investigate if you get a chance or even care. You mean I might not have to go back to work? Okay, I'll check. 6 MBT. Yeah, if you got a. A subject line that says org update, just delete it and see what happens. Catch you later. AJ 6km oh my God. All right, thanks. It's 6 MP. Tom. Let me know if you need a tone. I've got one ready to go here. All right, it's probably going to be a little bit because we're going to shut things down, do some other work. He's going to do software firmware upgrade on the controller, blah, blah, blah, so be a little while. So I suggest taking lunch break or whatever, have an adult beverage and we'll let you know. Don't break the controller, man. I think you ordered us ordered a box of smoke from China. So I guess lets it out, he can put it back in immediately. I just got that. That's good.

And 6. Kenny in out to Columbia.

Speaker A: 25?
Speaker B: I think so. Go ahead. And 6 mbt. If we added in the power supply, battery voltage option yet. No, we are multitasking, but that one has not come up yet. All right, thank you. Stay safe on the tower, Joy. Oh, yeah, that's coming up soon. All right. N6,72.
