Speaker A: What are you on your way to get some pizza and six grt?
Speaker B: No, no, I was coming down the hill from Paradise. I put a call out for you when I first started. Then I moved over to five two and talked to my buddy Jay there for a few minutes but he's gone and I flipped back here. So I'm probably 10 minutes from home. You know, regular normal traffic on Highway 99.
Speaker A: Yeah, 99 is where they had a hundred vehicle pile up not too long ago.
Speaker B: Wow. I'm sure nowhere near here. Probably like Bakersfield or something.
Speaker A: Yeah, it was way south. Yeah, I just got back from spot across. Across from across the plateau so to speak and kind of cold. I was on an E bike so I didn't have the radio going.
Speaker B: Yeah, well I can imagine you being a little cool for sure. But yeah, pretty nice today. Probably 70 degrees. It was like 72 in Chico, but a couple degrees cooler in Fahrenheit. But now it's cooled down to about 59 so. But yeah, I can imagine you being a couple degrees under that and then having to go on the e bike at 25 miles an hour. That'd be pretty cold.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was going about 25, 22. Actually. It says it's 55 degrees over here right now.
Speaker B: Yep, yep. Mine's going between 59 and 63. 62. Anyway, the reason I was calling for you is just to kind of check in with you to see how things are going on JS8 wanted to see if I could try to trying to get you tonight if you got it on.
Speaker A: Yeah, I didn't do any more with it today. I ended up, like I said, going across town. And so I might try a little bit tonight. I was wondering, do you remember a kid, a younger fella in Cottonwood that was getting on on Carla? Do you remember his call?
Speaker B: Nope, sure don't. I might be able to look through my phone and figure it out but it might take me a while at least to figure out his phone number or something because I think I texted him during the Auroras stuff. But gosh, I mean forgetting his name a little bit was like Jason or something like that maybe. Anyway, I'm kind of forgetting the name too so. But I do remember the guy and feel like he was in school or something.
Speaker A: Yeah, Jason was. What? Jason is what I'm thinking in Cottonwood. That's what I came up with also.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's probably the best you're going to get out of my memory bank is I didn't have very many conversations with them. And so, yeah, I wouldn't remember this, even though I'm. I'm okay on some call signs. And usually on the. You know, the back of the call sign is not the first part of the call sign, so. So anyway. But yeah, I'm not. It's not coming to me right now.
Speaker A: I was just gonna look again real quick, and I did see one call with the name Jason. I was gonna run that call.
Speaker B: Yeah. You know, you're falling down on the job. You used to be the keeper of the list. KN6MGK.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was doing that for a while. Okay. Jason doesn't even show on the page. There's J, but not Jason. Have to be like a KN though, I think, wouldn't it?
Speaker B: Yeah, you know, kn. KO it could have been J, but, you know, that's possible, too.
Speaker A: Yeah. Well, the reason I wanted to put that together is there's another fellow that signed in from Cottonwood that seemed to be fairly advanced. And I thought it'd be a good thing for them to. The two of them to get together.
Speaker B: Yeah. Well, being the other guy doesn't seem to be on anymore. I'm thinking he took off, moved out or whatever. You know, it could just be not on at the moment, but kind of the way I'm seeing things going lately is now he was caught in college or something. He could have, you know, got done.
Speaker A: Yeah. Or I think he was just doing two years college, so he could have gone to a bigger college.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking. Yeah. Something like that.
Speaker A: All right. Well, I thought I'd give it a try. If anybody would remember, it'd be you.
Speaker B: I appreciate it, but. Yeah, I appreciate that thought, but. Yeah, I have crs, too.
Speaker A: Well, for a young guy, you shouldn't have that much of it. Must be all that smoke in paradise.
Speaker B: I haven't been taking my ginkgo biloba. I have some, so I should be taking it, but I haven't.
Speaker A: Once I took ginkgo plus some stuff called Gota Cola together. And I couldn't believe the things that I could remember. Phone numbers that I never really realized I even knew were popping into my head. It was just nuts.
Speaker B: Yeah. Another mixture I like is Lion's Mane mushroom. Lion's Mane in a powder form, incidentally. You mix that in with like a cup of hot coffee or tea and it dissolves rather quickly. Some of the other mushrooms don't really. They kind of stick there and kind of hard to hydrate. But anyway, Lion's Mane mushroom and ginkgo biloba. Pretty good mixture for like better focus.
Speaker A: Have you ever seen that mushroom in the wild or pictures of it?
Speaker B: I think I've seen pictures of it and I've seen something like that in the wild but I can't say that it is that so. Never really investigated. Usually I've left it alone. That was my theory. I'm looking for like say three or four different fall mushrooms. If it ain't that, I don't bother with it.
Speaker A: Well, it is quite amazing to look at in the wild. It's a beautiful mushroom.
Speaker B: Yep. I think a lot of mushrooms are pretty awesome looking to be honest. Even a turkey tail mushroom which is everywhere in the forested area. Or I've even seen them in in town sometimes on trees like an oak tree that comes down and starting to rot. Turkey tail mushrooms. They look cool too if you ask me.
Speaker A: Well, one of the ones that doesn't look. It looks like crap. You have to actually dig, dig them out of the dirt. They're actually in the dirt a lot of times Is the mazataki.
Speaker B: Yep. I haven't seen one I don't believe. Sure there certainly is in Shiitake. But it'd be fun to see one of those mazatakis for sure. But I'd have to go up the right time of year up there around you know where I used to have a summer cab and the family did anyway and they hunt them there. I wish I was into that. My grandma was into there mushroom hunting but she never. The one thing about my family that's kind of crazy, they never share stuff. Like she made some good old fashioned ice cream, you know, with hand crank. Where's the recipe? You know, why don't they pass that stuff along? I don't understand.
Speaker A: Well, that recipe is really easy to come up with. Online, you know. It's not so much the recipe though that you need to look at. It's the equipment and the method. It really doesn't make sense that it even works.
Speaker B: It's not by long. That's the way worry about that. I mean I have the equipment, I mean everything like that passed down. I have the equipment. The same stuff I used as a kid at 8 years old, you know. So over 40 years ago we were using a crank it out ice cream and the method is, you know, ice and rock salt and stuff. I could figure that part out. But no, the recipe is not easy because there's plenty of of old fashioned vanilla recipes out there. And yeah, I could follow one but it won't be my grandma's recipe. Yeah, that's true.
Speaker A: My mom had everything in a notebook. And you know, I could probably have a copy of the entire notebook if I wanted it being passed around the family.
Speaker B: Well, my grandma went as far as making the cookbook. I forget the name of it. Medicine Lake something cookbook. Anyway. I don't know. But anyway, she made a couple of books from around the history of the area and stuff. And she was selling them around Shasta county, around that area, around Mountain Gate and all that is a little stunning. And anyway, some of that stuff might still be around if I can ask for my relatives. But, you know, didn't ever go to me. So it's hard to say. And the likelihood is that as people pass on and so forth, they're just tossing that stuff.
Speaker A: Not in my family. It's all being. Especially if it's something that's written down. It's all being passed around. And I. Because of what my plans might. What I thought maybe my plans would be. I did not take a lot of things. I did not take a lot of things that I could have had because I thought, well, maybe, you know, what I talked about if I do that, there's no way I'd be able to have any. Have all this stuff.
Speaker B: You'd have to have a storage or something like that. Things get ruined in storage. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, well, as time goes on, you know, that becomes less and less likely. Yeah, that's true.
Speaker A: Although I just saw one where a couple brought the lady's dad on. He flew in from Australia and went across the Atlantic and had a great time. So, you know, and he looks like he might be my age, so I think it could happen. Key enough because if you're saying something, I don't want to miss it. I've got fire stuff going out.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, I don't know. I just arrived to the house, but I was just kind of hoping to see you on JS8 or FT8 or something. So soon. So that's okay. Friday. You know, one thing we do have going is probably starting Monday of Rainier Times Sunday night. So, you know, I figured maybe you'll have some time next week to really work on that stuff. Maybe. Anyway, for me, I'm kind of still working on some gardening stuff and things. So we'll see. I've got a nice cauliflower dough right now. I'm going to bring that inside. Maybe I'll cook some of it too. So anyway, I'll Listen to your final and say 73kn6mvk.
Speaker A: Well, yesterday I had gone over to this lady's house that I've been helping and we cut a whole bunch of wood and stuff. I had it all in the truck. And this morning I spent all morning getting it out of the truck and separating it into different piles of stuff, organizing it and everything. And I've got a pile that I need to cut up and blah, blah, blah. Well, then I got to thinking. She offered me a pair of coveralls that she didn't give me. And so I called her and I said, well, I, you know, I'd like to get those coveralls. Oh, well, let me see if I can find them. And all of a sudden, I think while we were still on the COVID oh, I found them. Okay. So I went over there and we talked and talked and talked and. Took a lot longer than just grabbing a pair of coveralls and coming home. But yeah, coverall, you know, $50 item. They're brand new. Yeah, it kind of bugs me that I can't come up with with who that was in Cottonwood. I'll bet you he's still listed as Cottonwood, so I wish I had that name. Anyway, talk to you later. Sounds like you get home. NFISH PR2. By the way, there's one guy in in Cottonwood whose first name is. Or the last name is Officer.
Speaker B: Interesting. All right, well, I better say 73kn6mgk is clear.
Speaker A: Okie doke. Talk to you later. N6Q.

System32link op. Good morning. This is November 6th. Is that. Is that golf uniform? Yankee. Oh, say hallelujah. But, hey, what's up? What is this? Pete and Chico and six IWh. And I'm awake. Long time. You know what it is that I remember about you is your. Well, not your defiant attitude, but your attitude and strength. Its rebellious quality. Is this true? I don't know what my strengths are. Well, how about this? You appear to me as a strong person. So how you doing today? I'm up. Not moving, though. Sitting in a chair. That's where I spend most of my life. Computer chair. Watching YouTube videos. Just found out about that Leonard's dinner band. Interesting. You know the plane crash, bro. Well, you're probably okay not even knowing. How are you doing? Haven't heard you in a while. Nothing good going on. Anytime I get around a person making sandwich, they say, don't forget the mayo. Oh, love mayo. Especially a turkey sandwich. Mayonnaise, beef, you know, leftover from the weekend. Right. Sandwich. Get the mayo on there. Oh, kill me. God. That was rigged. It was so bad that, you know, you just could not say it. Only as we. Well, that doesn't sound very good, the way you kind of describe it there. I mean, you know, eat this and die. Okay, I remember a place called Dipti Nevis in the city. I don't know if it was on Castro, but. Oh, you want to talk about good food? Good. This will get me started on good food. Okay, think about going there. Now, you can't flush drive around the city for two days. In fact, I knew a guy, he moved over towards Fisherman's Wharf. Of course, there's no parking, you know, on the street. Good luck. And really, sometimes at night, he would go down to the marina, sleep because he couldn't get home. Island. Palm trees and a little lighthouse on it and whatnot. And told the guys, hey, man, crash on the deck afterwards. Yeah, sure. Yeah, you can sleep out four times. Well, I've heard that before. Crash on a deck. Oh, no, that's not something you want. So, what is this one of your experiences? Another place of good food as you talked about. I love talking about good food. And it's cheap. That's the only part of it that's cheap. I mean, really. Blah, blah, blah, the economy. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. That's the same one about the economy.

Speaker A: There's two things that don't go together. Good food, cheap.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm still looking for a good burger joint. Not, you know, I can remember
Speaker A: good
Speaker B: burger, you know, lettuce, tomato. They got home style, they call it. People send me some place. Oh, go over here to Bobo. Oh, God, this is terrible. Insult. But it's okay. I've had people tell me about the burrito truck over on Yada de Yada, the street. And serious, you get it. There's nothing in there. No meat, a lot of rice. But the tortilla is so thick and tough to eat. They do that probably because, you know, stuff falls out on the ground,
Speaker A: but
Speaker B: you can't eat them. I felt like I was chewing on a dishcloth. Wait a minute. Wet my teeth, you know, like that.
Speaker A: I know what you're talking about. There's a place down here. Got one up here in Francisco. We got one here in South City. They're pretty good.
Speaker B: Oh, thank God. I used to work 16th in Alabama in the city publishing company. A lot of pay stuff. Plus we'd run over to the Mission District. There was one shop, I want to say El Jose's or something like that, but tall, chiller and you know, they wrap it up in tin foil and really it was huge. Two people could eat off it or cut it in half. Take the other half home for dinner. Plus good beef, chicken, whatever you have chosen.
Speaker A: All clean and nice and, you know,
Speaker B: other stuff in there. Guacamole, stark and hey, try it now. Oh, you don't like? No.
Speaker A: Here in San Francisco, Third street, right near the third street bridge,
Speaker B: there was a
Speaker A: temperature place and their hamburgers were spot on. Burger tomatoes. There's enough grease in the burger itself, like permanently stained my shirt. They made delicious burgers. They were fantastic. And there's another place that was, I think worth a mention called Clown Alley. It was on. I think it was on Eastern Street.
Speaker B: You know, I've heard that name before. Somebody else raised there in the city, right. You know, part of it is the core, of course, you know, the flavor of the lettuce and tomato and stuff you want fresh and good. But the bun, you know, the bun needs to be firm and there's a certain taste, you know, that east coast power hamburger flavor that you get out of the bun. You can't get that.
Speaker A: The place on 3rd street was called Tick Tock and there is all about the street as far as I. Just rated high on my list. But they all closed. I don't remember why. I thought those were good.
Speaker B: Not really having a challenge. But hey, what about the fries? Sometimes even those are nice
Speaker A: spices. And I don't know, I need deep fries. I don't deep fries anymore. But got a place here in town called Basca Cultural center and they're French fries are thin, light, crispy, popped on the edge. Fry. Of course, I think what they do is they do a double fry on them. Basically drop them in, they fry them for a few seconds, take them back out, put them back in afterwards after they cool down a bit so they come out light.
Speaker B: Oh, yum, yum.
Speaker A: Cool.
Speaker B: Have you cooked? Are you a cook? Obviously you know something about it.
Speaker A: I'm a wannabe cook. I got the knives, got the chef knives. No questions about it. Cook. No, my concept of cooking is going out.
Speaker B: Only thing about going out is you better take out a bank. Well,
Speaker A: Christmas for occasionally to get supplies. Much about private. Don't cook. No one stop the drive to a restaurant. Don't want to stop. Distressed to go to a restaurant. Fantastic. You know, if you go to a restaurant, guarantee that regardless, small, tiny, you know, children size burgers still going to cost you just.
Speaker B: Oh yeah. And you know, even regular people are feeling it, feeling the pinch of the economy. You know, some people who have extra money in the bank, you know, they own a cabin up at Tahoe, you know, beautiful home and stuff. And they're griping about they don't have any money.
Speaker A: Politically.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, I guess it's happening all over the world. You know, for dollars a lira, the yen doesn't buy that much anymore. Peso. Yeah, I remember back when, way back when, you know, my family and I would run down to Mexico. Things are cheap and you could get anything you needed. Of course now people go down to the medication, but
Speaker A: dental work.
Speaker B: The only thing people would say is if you're in Tijuana, don't eat off of the snack trucks out front. You know, the little carts take out. Where it says seafood taco, you go, oh, no, no. But I kidding, no.
Speaker A: Yeah, we got some taco trucks around here. But what I did order was quite edible.
Speaker B: Oh, taco trucks. Well, let me tell you about things here in Chico around Christmas time, it's hard to find tamales. The restaurants don't have them. People told me about somebody selling them out of the trunk of their car and tractor supply. Okay, this is tamales. Oh my God, man, I don't see you finery.
Speaker A: Mexico, Arizona, somewhere in that area, pulled into the gas station, got some gas, went in and looked at some fireworks because you know, besides being a gas station, they sold fireworks. Put in the office parking lot were half a dozen ladies and they were all selling their wares. And found a little lady who was selling tamales. And they were spicy and they were hot and perfectly wrapped, you know how. And the corn house glazed and whatnot and tie and little knot in it. They were all perfect and they were delicious.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, tamales make you smart. So just heat a dozen and see what happens.
Speaker A: 50 impressions. Kind of weird. Anyway, It's like if I had the gas leave time nothing better to do than jumping the car and go back. At least gone by now. But the T. No question about it. Oh yeah, I got Somalis when I was up in they were after nobody was eating them. I like made a couple. The lady says, oh yeah, I put too much. I don't think drink just there he ears.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, they're yours. You know, I've run into people, you know, mamacitas making tamales and I hey, well shoot, hook me up, let me have a dozen. And they're terrible. I'm doing Waymen, mom Latina. Oh yeah, they were dry. And you know the mix of mossa and lard. There's a neck.
Speaker A: Question about it. Anyway,
Speaker B: I know enough Spanish, so I'm good. And six IWh on the side over
Speaker A: six IWh and six Q, Y, R. Yeah, just get me going. I just can't stop talking about. So anyways, I move back to essay check. Key west are.
Speaker B: Yeah, I like the ones they call them sweet tamales. Made with the like white corn meal put in some sort of sweetening for the holidays. Okay. Happy dream.
