GEARS W TX (146.115 MHz) recordings for 2026-02-15

Speaker A: Los Angeles linked up.
Speaker B: This is wrong. Station calling. This is kilo7 Oscar Foxtrot Oscar. Coming in a little scratchy, but I was able to pick you up.
Speaker C: Thanks for that. I just had a.
Speaker B: My icon set up in my truck and have a low profile antenna on medium power. Just testing it out out over here in the Garden Grove area. He kind of broke up there at the end, but yeah, it's still coming through. Just a little scrat. Thanks for that.
Speaker A: Kilo7 oscar foxtrot oscar. November 6th, golf romeo golf. Yeah, I was wondering, are you in?
Speaker B: Payson? That's a negative from Nevada.
Speaker A: Okay, just thought maybe there was a ham. I was trying to get connected. Kilo seven Oscar Foxtrot Golf. Have you ever spoken with him? He's in Arizona, though.
Speaker B: Yeah, I've heard the call sign come across before, but I've never talked to him personally.
Speaker A: Okay, well, he would be very new on Carla if he is on link and new connection from patients, so. All right, thanks very much. N6GRG up in Reading, California.
Speaker C: Good afternoon. Mrs. Currently traveling southbound I5 heading back towards. Good afternoon.
Speaker A: I'm not sure. I'm not sure what happened to the beginning of your transmission as you're heading down Highway 5. It does help to key up and wait at least a second or two before Speaking. This is November 6th. Golf Romeo Golf. Okay, yeah, that came through fine, although your audio is a little low, but it did come through pretty well. And this is November 6th, Golf Romeo Golf. Up and ready, looking down at five. I'm above five, about 300ft off the valley floor.
Speaker C: All right. I spent a lot of time up in Red Block. I reside in Livermore on the outskirts of the Bay Area. But yeah, just kind of new. This kind of.
Speaker A: Okay. Would you happen to be 18 wheeler or something like that? Okay, well, great to hear you on. Carla is making it really clearly into Santiago Peak now and into the Los Angeles area. It is possible to reach San Diego, at least it used to be. I'm not sure it still is, but it used to be possible to reach San Diego on that repeater, so. Very good. Have you looked at Carla Radio Net? Carla Radio Net. That's all one word.
Speaker C: Okay.
Speaker D: K6WLD listening in San Diego.
Speaker C: Yes, I have. I've got all the pilot receivers, the links and the local CL figures all around the greater Bay Area. But yeah, I wasn't actually there that. This one's down as far south as San Diego, so that's pretty awesome.
Speaker A: Yeah. Ka6WLD, N6TRG, particularly good transmission, lots of high end audio. So it's very good, easy to understand from San Diego. N6GRG.
Speaker D: I was just kind of reading the mail there, heard you wondering whether the link was making it down to San Diego and just wanted to jump in and confirm that. Yes indeed it is back up and running down here into San Diego. So let you guys continue your conversation but figured I'd provide that info KK6WLD back over to M6GRG.
Speaker A: Okay, well be sure to keep in mind that there is a local PL as well as a link PL down there. And local will make it possible for you to communicate with Los Angeles San Diego area without bringing up the entire system and. Very good. You're exceptionally clear we've got a new connection into Santiago Pica Force. So. All right, very good. And six Golf, Romeo Golf.
Speaker C: Are there any nets that take place on the link system or what does that look like?
Speaker A: At one time there were a few specialized networks that we had. They are generally more of a yearly operation rather than a like monthly or even weekly. They're more like yearly and one involved airports, but I'm not sure they're still operating. Go ahead.
Speaker C: Well, thanks for that information and thanks for being so welcoming. I know.
Speaker A: Okay. 73. Just a quick possible. Hint as to why your audio might be a little low. Could be having your transcendence in the narrow operation rather than the wide. If you look at your settings you can find that. But if, if it isn't that, then it's just low. Maybe low. I don't know what which radio you're running, but it could be just needs to be turned up a little if it has that option. N6TR.
Speaker C: All right, thank you for that audio report. I'm actually running on a Hemytown 878 UV2 plus with a signal fit mag mounted for the roof of my truck right now. So I was using it with a lapel mic, but I just took that mic off. Is it any better or worse?
Speaker A: Your highs may have come up a little bit. It was really low, had very few highs before and it might have come up a little bit, but the deviation is still a little low coming out of that radio. So the RF part of it's been good, but it's right at the end of your transmission this time it started to get a little noisy. But anyway, yeah, I would say look into the settings for wide and narrow and then maybe there is a microphone gain adjustment. I don't know the 78 though. I do not know that radio N6 GRG.
Speaker C: So I'll copy that. I'll take a look at it. And I.
Speaker A: W6 India Lima Oscar, N6 GRT. By the way, there's a W. I think it is India Lima Bravo in. Currently in California. But he's a boater. That was. He was on the boat full time. Interesting. Close call. Gears and six grt. Talk to you later. Local36.

Speaker A: Sa. This is wrqh413 radio check. Thanks. Changing out my radio. Just wanted not
Speaker B: change out my radio, change out my antenna to a comment E I.
Speaker A: Yeah I just put a new antenna on my testing
Speaker B: out the Comet GI990 just put it on the truck testing out see how far I can shop. Currently in the Garden Grove area. Not sure where you're at.
Speaker C: We're on the winter theater but I'm up in south of Sacramento right now.
Speaker A: Oh nice, nice. Yeah, I'm just currently visiting over here at
Speaker B: Scarlet Grove. Just got my ICOM 2730 set up. Just giving it a whirl today. I'm probably going to head home. I'm out of Ventura County, Westlake Village.
Speaker A: Sounds amazing. Thanks man. I'm pretty excited to
Speaker B: to get it. I was on the market looking for one, debating if I wanted to get a Yihu or some other brand. I've had an alliance HD1HD for a while and bit the bullet and bought a mobile for my truck.
Speaker A: That's one of my next projects before the
Speaker C: summer is to get some stuff permanently installed in a truck but not there yet. Got to get all together first. But yeah, your product sounds great.
Speaker A: Thanks man. I appreciate it. Hope you drive safe. I think you said you were
Speaker B: out of the Bay area so drive safe. Thanks for answering back on my radio check. Appreciate it.

Speaker A: 6 jpk monitoring half mo bay undead battery system 32 link off.
Speaker B: The half moon base station with half a battery. Nr7g las vegas.
Speaker A: Yeah, loudest there. I'm over here in front of the parking lot of New Leaf Market. I didn't know this repeater had such good coverage. I guess it's in Pacifica. Carlos32 it might be right. That's the one I'm on. Yeah, should be.
Speaker B: I'm in Las Vegas, Nevada on the LVRA system. We're connected full time, mostly full time into the Carlin network for the last few years. So I'm here on HP in my living room just around here watching a little TV and talking to Half Moon Bay,
Speaker A: The Carless system for a long time. I don't use it too much but they really built it out. I guess they have covered down in LA now too.
Speaker B: Yeah, the LA theater on Santiago Peak has been there for a while but just like dead for the last year and a half. So this got fixed a few weeks ago. So it's up and running and happy to have it back online. So yeah, we're a separate system that coverage in southern Nevada, parts of southern Utah. Also in the Lincoln County, Nevada, about half a dozen on this network, mostly UHFs, one or two DHFs. And so we're good. And so we're LinkedIn through the Internet. We're LinkedIn on All Stars into Carla. That's how I'm coming to you over there.
Speaker A: The whole thing's linked up to the Internet, which is good and then it's bad at the same time. Depending on how you look at it. Internet fails. You want to have a fallback system. And I remember back in the day when these link repeaters were done on 430 MHz or microwave links. Some of them still are. And yeah, when everything starts going downhill, you, you pretty much want to not rely on the Internet. But I mean we're relying on the Internet so much nowadays. I don't think that's an option anymore.
Speaker B: Well, not so true. We're we're leaving on the Internet. But we also have a 430 backbone connection with our machine. Years ago we couldn't revert overstack quite easily and have a couple times we've had some Internet issues. So you know it's old, right? Hey introduces noise. There's other issues, antenna alignment tuning and power supplies, RF issues and all that kind of stuff. So. But you know, sometimes some of the sites may not have Internet available at the site. That's always Something, you know, power is one thing and. Internet quite another. So, you know, we gotta hope that we have that. So most cases we do. So pretty handy. Anyway, so you stay around the parking lot of the, like you say, a nursery.
Speaker A: Called New Leaf Market. It's like. Well, the best example I can give you would be kind of like between a cross between Trader Joe's and
Speaker B: Whole
Speaker A: Foods, but it's got a lot of organic food. And really the only reason why I come down to Half Moon Bay is to go to this market market that's. They don't have any other ones closer. They don't have any in the Bay area. As far as I know. This deal, closest one in Northern California. But they got some really awesome stuff here. Yeah.
Speaker B: And NR7G, where I beat. We have. There's a place called New Leaf here and not too far from where I live. I just saw it the other day the first time. I didn't know what it was.
Speaker A: I found out. If you look at sprouts, that's probably actually the closest it comes to as far as supermarkets. They are kind of pricey, but they have a tremendous selection of organic food. And I just, I had bad allergies back in the 90s and early 2000s and once I, you know, started looking and seeking out and just solely going for organic food, my allergies just went away. And I was, you know, nothing helps my allergies. I was on algae shots, I took Benadryl, I was on Sudafen. The only thing that helped was to go organic. So I have to literally eat, eat all organic food.
Speaker B: Oh, okay. Wow. Okay, well, yeah, that makes a difference for you. Helps you out. So yeah, we have Trader Joe's here. I have a Trader Joe's right down the street about, I don't know, four blocks down the hill. Trader Joe's. We also have Whole Foods here in Vegas, Sprouts and some other places. But Trader Joe's is the closest, I guess. I like.
Speaker A: KE6JTK Friday. Yeah, my radio is start to croak here. It's got no battery at all. And I don't even know how it's toxic here, but it's a little. It's phony APX radio. It's a global PT PPT. It's a dual function cellular over PTP, over cellular. And it's a UHF conventional radio. So I'm putting out 15 watts on a dead battery. And I don't know how it's easy managing that.
Speaker B: I don't know, man. Miracle. Anyway, all right, well, I'll let you go. Go back to monitoring, save the battery. So anyway, take care and great chatting too. I already Forgot to call
Speaker A: 73 from
Speaker B: November Romeo 7 Gulf here in Las Vegas. I'll be clearing a final and good afternoon.
Speaker A: Good Scott with you. This is K68 decay and I. The radio is not putting out 15 watts. Putting out about 8 watts. It says it puts out 10, but it's not really putting out about not 8. Anyway, 73s, have a good evening, take care.
