Speaker A: Nr 17.
Speaker B: Hey, john. What's going on? N6kn. Hey, ken.
Speaker A: What are you up to?
Speaker B: Not a whole bunch. We just had a nice little storm blow through here and I know we're going to get another one here later. I'm just sitting here playing with the computer and watching. Watching a YouTube channel.
Speaker A: Yeah, we just got back from church and going out to lunch after church. Hanging out with family friends. Now I'm just getting home, getting ready to walk in the door. Got a friend returning one of my utility trailers that he borrowed. Bring him back. I keep up my neighbor's backyard. So I'm getting ready to put that away here in a few minutes when
Speaker C: he shows up at that and working
Speaker A: on the project and maybe even take a nap.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, A nap on a Sunday.
Speaker C: You bet.
Speaker B: I already took my little nap. I think it was maybe 20 minutes. And then I had to jump back into all the honeydews, but those are done and out of the way. Yeah. So I get to sit here and enjoy a cold one and wait for the pretty little woman to tell me she needs help with dinner.
Speaker A: And what are you gonna have for dinner? Do you. Do you guys barbecue down there? Stuff like that?
Speaker B: No, I've been bugging the wife to. To let me buy a barbecue. No, we just haven't found a good one yet. But yeah, like, I definitely want to get a barbecue now. We have a really good, high quality air fryer, so we use that quite a bit. I think tonight we're having chicken thighs and legs. Air fried chicken thighs and legs with rice and some sort of vegetable.
Speaker A: Do they have like a Costco or something like that down in Columbia?
Speaker B: No, no, costcos. Most everything here is Ma and PA type of stuff. The bigger chains. Here we have one that's called X. Some of those are really big and they have just about everything that you could find fresh as can be.
Speaker A: Oh, that sounds delicious. Sounds great. Awesome.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker C: One.
Speaker B: One big difference between here and there is.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker B: When you buy your beef, there's chicken
Speaker C: in your pork and your beef that's
Speaker B: all super fresh and most of it's never been frozen.
Speaker A: You're making me hungry already.
Speaker B: Yeah, of course. Then we have the junk like empanadas and you know, the good old stuff. That reminds me, have you seen what's going on down there in Mexico? That's crazy. Curious to see how that turns out
Speaker C: in the long run.
Speaker A: Wow. Oh, yeah, down there. I hear the feather on the news down in Puerto Vallarta. Somewhere on there, some kind of cartels Taking over the city or something like that.
Speaker C: Is it.
Speaker A: Somebody else said it's because they captured a cartel box,
Speaker B: something like that.
Speaker A: Is that right?
Speaker B: Yeah, the Mexican military in conjunction with the U.S. they. They caught or they killed l.
Speaker C: Somebody.
Speaker B: I don't remember his name there. But anyways, yeah, a big, big, big, big cartel boss. So, yeah, now all of his cartel followers and probably employees are absolutely running amok down there.
Speaker A: Well, you don't have anything like that in Columbia, right? It's just pretty good down there.
Speaker B: No, nothing like that.
Speaker C: Yeah, no, it's.
Speaker B: It's all good here. Most everything that happens here, anti, Anti cartel is done, usually low key and
Speaker C: in the dead of night.
Speaker B: The Colombian president down here, He's not well liked with the drug cartels,
Speaker C: not
Speaker B: like Trump originally thought. I am glad that they finally met and came to an agreement on what's going on down here. But yeah, the Colombian government, the Colombian president, he's doing a pretty good job of quietly getting rid of the drug cartel.
Speaker A: That's got to be tough. That's got to almost be an uphill battle. Aren't they kind of entrenched in that region?
Speaker B: No, not like you would think. They don't have, you know, four or five big drug cartel groups down here. They just have a lot of little. A little. A lot of little ones. So, yeah, when you take one of them out, pretty much all you're ever gonna hear of them. Unlike Mexico, you got these, you know, world famous drug cartels with thousands of
Speaker C: thousands of people involved with them.
Speaker A: Oh, okay. Good to know. All right, well, I'm taking up the garbage cans here. I don't if you can hear them in the background rolling around, but trying to get some stuff put away, so I'm gonna try to use both hands. Great catching up there, Ken. And 73 from NR7D, Centennial Hills, northwest Las Vegas. On yours, sir. Have a great afternoon.
Speaker B: All right, John. Yep. Good talking to you and good to hear you. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and enjoy your upcoming week.
Speaker C: Take care.
Speaker B: N6KN Chenalta, Columbia. I heard somebody in there, but you're super, super scratchy. Coming out from Oakland, California. Okay. Yeah, that was a little bit better than Oakland. Heard you. Heard you a little bit better that time.
Speaker C: Where are you coming in from?
Speaker B: I'm down here in Chenalta, Colombia, about an hour and a half drive out of Bogota.
Speaker C: Oh, wow, that's a long distance. It would be about what
Speaker B: from here? Well, throw your call sign out there one more time. I'll tell you exactly how Far away. You and I are. If you're at your QT.
Speaker C: Hello, Oscar. 60 Mike. Kilo. Kilo.
Speaker B: Okay, so believe it or not, we are only 3,789 miles apart.
Speaker A: Wow.
Speaker C: How were you able to find that out? Is that through a map between Oakland and Colombia or was that some linkage with the call sign?
Speaker B: I just looked you up on qrz. I couldn't even begin to pronounce your name. I'm assuming you may, or hoping that you may have a nickname, but yeah, I just pull you up on qrz, click on the map, and it tells us. Tells us exactly how far apart we are.
Speaker C: Oh, wow. Yeah, I didn't know about that, actually. That's a good learning. I'm pretty new to ham. My name is Shantanu.
Speaker B: Chantanoo. Okay. That's kind of what it looks like. All right, well, thanks for. Thanks for telling me how to pronounce your name. I would have been probably embarrassed if
Speaker C: I tried to do it by myself.
Speaker B: All right, well, the name here is Ken, and I am retired down here in Colombia. I've been here for a little over a year. I do have a Colombian call sign coming hopefully here pretty soon. But for now, I am using radio list down here, so I can just use my FCC call sign
Speaker A: slightly.
Speaker C: So this would be an echo link kind of a situation with you right now. Not a handy talkie or a base taking.
Speaker B: I'm using voip similar to echo link, but quite a bit better. I am using All Star, which is another VoIP voice over Internet. So, yeah, that's how I'm connected to the Carter system at the moment.
Speaker C: Oh, that's amazing. Yeah, I'll type all st out. I have done Carla quite a bit. I believe. I'm doing Carla right now. I'm off handy talking right now. Connecting to the computer and working.
Speaker B: All right. Yep, very good. Yeah, that's a good long distance call there on your handy talking. All right. Yeah.
Speaker A: Wow.
Speaker B: It looks like you just. You just picked up your technician license, so congratulations with that.
Speaker C: Yes, I've been interested for a while and never got the time to be go take the test. And I did. And right now I'm full on. All right, very good.
Speaker B: Well, good to make your acquaintance and
Speaker C: very nice talking to you.
Speaker B: I'll let you go again. The name here is ken. I am November 6th kilo, November echo. And I am coming to you from Chenalta, Columbia. You take care and have a great rest of your afternoon.
Speaker C: Nice talking to you, Ken as well. Ko6mkk this is k7gmd kilo7 golf november 2nd. Nice to make your acquaintance. That are you coming in from. Good afternoon to you. I want to say congratulations on your new license and welcome to Amnesty Radio and the name here is Larry and I'm located in Florence, Oregon, A little bit closer than the person I was talking to earlier. Ken was coming out from Columbia via White Connection of All Stars. Yeah, Ken is a really good guy and I've been out here and available. So yeah, I am also using All Star myself here. I'm actually in regular mode like Ken is a lot of different notes on All Stars to be able to get into. Yeah, I haven't experimented with All Stars yet. I've done with Carla quite a bit. I go in the wilderness quite a bit remote, very, very remote places. One of my use cases I used to have was that connectivity California is where it's pretty well connected in both regards. I haven't gone out since I've got my good life but I want to do that and check.
Speaker A: Portable all star.
Speaker C: In the world happen. But you can go portable with All Star. If you want to learn more about
Speaker A: All Star you can go to the
Speaker C: website allstarlink.org allstarlink.org is a website that'll tell you a lot more about it. Yeah. Awesome. Yeah, I have the Echolink app also on my phone but I my usage is mostly if I can connect to a node to my hand copy on my base station so that I can communicate with friends and family back home and that should be. I'm not sure if All Star they're repeaters that are All Star enabled and we could maybe do a EMF stone inside it and connect that way. I don't know yet. I'm sure you do, so please educate me. Okay. Fortunately there is a lot of static on on this connection but. So what was the question or something you're wondering about? Did you receive that for me? I was wondering if I could connect into All Star repeaters through a handy talkie or through a mobile station. Yes, some repeaters do have All Star on it or you can communicate to with it. Or if you have your handheld or mobile and you have an Ultra note
Speaker B: at home, you can
Speaker C: communicate with it through a handheld like I do here in my home. So yes, it is quite versatile. Very versatile.
Speaker A: Different.
Speaker C: I didn't check where you're located. Are you there in San Francisco Bay area? That is correct. Oakland, California to be more specific. Okay.
Speaker A: Others would know better than I but
Speaker C: I'm sure there's some receivers there and others there in the Bay Area. I don't know which ones they are, but. Yeah, check that out. I will do that. Thank you for all the.
Speaker A: Information. It was great talking to you. Okay. Will you take care of the.
