Well, hopefully getting the radios warmed up. We're going to start net here in about three minutes. Three minutes. Kilo November 6 Mike Golf. Kilo. Sounding good, steve. Kn6jht.
QST, QST, QST. This is Steve K and 6 MGK located in Chico. I'll be your net control station for tonight's Golden Empire Amateur radio Society Club net. This net meets every Tuesday evening at 7:30pm from the W6RHC East Repeater for the purpose of fellowship and public service through amateur radio. First off, is there any station with emergency or priority traffic? Please come now. Good. Nothing. Heard a couple things to think of when we check in here in just a bit here to maybe give to the group. Maybe you've got a It is December. Maybe you've got an item that you'd like Ham Santa to deliver to you. May. Maybe you can express to the group what that might be. The other thing would be, if you don't want to.
Participate in that. How about ham radio goals? Things that you'd like to accomplish in 2026? After all, this is December. We should be thinking about those New Year's resolutions. Okay, Are there any general announcements for the net? If you please have. If you have an announcement, please respond with your call sign right now. W6JS Pww. I'll take a miss. Nick came Tom. W6JS. Go ahead with the announcement. A good year resolution is come and get your license or upgrade. We're doing it this Sunday at 2:00' clock at the Elk Slides, and Jim will be stepping in for me. I'll be in Reno. That's all I got. I'll be hanging around and until my time comes around. Okay, sounds good. Sunday, two o', clock, Elks.
Get your upgrade. I'm guessing FCC is all back in order and all the things are back the way they were. You can let us know if that is the case or it's your turn. How about Jamie? I think you were in there. K, K N6PWW. Come ahead. Hey, thanks Tom for getting the exams together and Jim for covering. Hey, I'd like to remind you all that we are putting together a QRP Labs kit purchase. I encourage you all to look at that's qrp-labs labs.com and look up a kit there to to buy the transceiver kits. I'm looking at the single band CW kit right now. They're. They're pretty inexpensive. So anyway, we're putting together a group buy. We want.
Want to get that done as soon as possible so we can, so we can get them built and, and debug together as a club. Contact Chris Koenig for, for payments on that. And as soon as we get up to 10 kits, we can get that order in the mail and, and start building stuff. That's it for me. KN6 Pww. Okay, question on your announcement, what group special buy would that mean for people? Do they get a percentage off or free shipping or what is it? Go ahead. I don't think Chris is going to be on tonight. I talked to him earlier today. I think the big savings is really on shipping. If we can, if we can distribute this shipping across 10 kits, it gets down pretty cheap. I am not sure.
About discounts on the kits themselves so I don't want to say anything about that but the shipping is going to be the real deal. I am actually going to order two kits. There are two that look pretty interesting that I'm going to get so I'm going to probably burn one up learning to solder again and the second one is going to come out great but the different kits for me anyway. I hope I answer your question. I don't know about discounts on the kids for but just but amortized shipping definitely is going to be a deal. Okay. And sometimes on those group buys you'd think that putting all those together might delay the shipping. QRP Labs isn't the best with you know sometimes it's a one month wait for things over there Anyway. Sounds good. Hopefully people partake in that. If people want to know more about QRP Labs too there's a great guy. Call sign N6.
I think it's N6DT. Anyway, he comes on 80 meters on Sunday mornings about 7:15am on 3.855. Don Cantrell's his name. He's built a lot of those kits. So has Andrew Keene, I think it is. Anyway, emergency traffic, emergency net on 80 meters on Sundays. And he'll be a wealth of knowledge to all those builders out there because he's had to work on a lot of QRP lab, and he's had to help people get them all functioning. So might be a good wealth of information. Thank you for the announcements, but while I'm asking, is there any other announcement? Please come now. Okay, catch my breath. Long winded steve here. Kilo, november 6th. Mike golf. Kilo neck control, kn6p.ww. I have you as first.
There. And you're gonna be with us for roundtable. Yeah. Not a huge amount to say, but I. I will be sticking around. Thanks very much, KN6TWW. Alrighty. Thank you very kindly. N6SAV. How about K6EST? Good evening. This is Jim. K6EST in South Chico. I'll be in and out tonight. Thank you. All right, Jim, thank you. And thank you for stepping in with that gears testing on Sunday at 2 o'. Clock. Thank you and have a great evening. KG6 Kuo. Good evening, Steve. Thank you for running the net. This is KG6 Kuo, and I'll be in and out. And you have a good evening. Nice. Thank you, Lester. Well, thank you very much for checking in. Hopefully we'll see a coffee one of these times. By the way, that is a function I rather enjoy. I get to it like, once a month. Maybe it's the Barnes and Nobles. Thursdays at, I think 10am Thursdays, 10am Barnes and Nobles. Only half a dozen people are there.
Usually but be fun to see some others. How about Doug? KD6 Lok Good evening Steve the Net Kilo Delta 6 Lima Oscar Kilo Doug here on Shiny Nimshu Ridge well it's kind of dark tonight but it's been sun when you guys in the valley have had to suffer with that fog. I sure appreciate living up here when I see that. Anyway thanks for doing the net Steve. I will be in and out tonight. 73 All KD6 Lok yes it's been kind of horrible great the last two days a little cold but anyway yeah the fog just felt like it was at the coast and it was kind of one of those things where you know get the moisture in the air and everything you'd just be really cold and felt felt wet. So anyways yeah I'd drive up to paradise and enjoy the property up there. It's a nice sunshine out of the fog. I was really enjoying that so anyway maybe some.
They have a house up there, but it's not looking like it. So. Hey, thanks, Doug. And thanks for going up in the high country there and telling us what's happening up there. I'll be talking at you later. How about my good old friend there N60 UK you out there this evening? Well, I'm here, but. Old friend. Did you say old or just O, O L e? It's a good old friend. Okay. Doing okay. Still upright, I guess. Actually, I'm horizontal on the couch, but just check me in and out. Just wanted to say good evening to you and the net. So 7:3 all the way around. And have a good dad, as you will, as you always do. So carry on. Steve. Well, darn it, I was hoping to hear some. Some goals. I haven't heard anything yet, but we'll see a good old ham radio goals from you or. Or something from the ham Santa. Although I kind of a feeling if you want it, you won't have to wait.
For Santa to bring it to you. Anyway, I know one thing I'm looking for is a little auto tuner, I think for my yaesu. So anyway, cool clearance. Well, hopefully we'll get to get to breakfast with you one of these days and have a great evening. Thanks for checking in. Long string of check ins here. So thank you very much for being a good member and you have. Oh, good old, kind of like good old friend or, you know, maybe you are a little bit of an og, but that's okay, very wise. Thank you for all. How about the K6GAB? K6GAB, how are you doing this evening? You out there? Hey, good Evening, this is K6GAB, Greg in North Chico. I will make a couple of comments when it's my turn. Sounds good. We'll be carefully listening for that. How about KN6PJU.
Ah. Surprised? I hadn't heard him. A neighbor of mine. How about KC6UFE? I bet he's out there. Six UFP billing cafes out there. Check me in, Steve. Gotcha. He sounds good there. Sounding good. I heard him earlier. How about KN6JHT? This is KN6JHT. Chris and Chico checking in. Thank you, Steve. Sounding great. And I'll be here tonight. Santa might have to come a little early for me with those QCX mini kits. So that's it for me. And I'll be around for the talk. Back. Back to you. Okay, well, we'll see. I'll bet you hamburger on that one. How about KB6 CYJ? Good evening, everybody. KB6 CYJ. Scott in beautiful downtown Chico where it's cold and has been for.
Quite a few days we're gonna be in and out tonight. Just saying that we're hoped everybody enjoyed their Thanksgiving. KB6 CYJ hey, thank you Scott for being out there. Yeah. Hey, interesting one. A relative of mine makes turkey cinnamon rolls. I couldn't believe it. Turkey cinnamon rolls. Never heard of such a thing. So she sent me a picture of it and it looks like a regular cinnamon roll with the. With the icing on it but a couple little goofy eyeballs and bacon believe it or not bacon in the back for tails. So anyway, hey it's up my alley. I like bacon, I like cinnamon roll so how can you go wrong? The turkey doesn't mean there's turkey in it. That's what I thought. It sounded yucky but it was just it looks like a turkey when it's all done. How about KJ6WEX? It. Had a key up. Is that case.
Mark, are you out there? Okay, nothing heard. Ha6wv. Okay, still running through the list here. And roll call. This is kilo. November 6th. Mike, golf, kilo call and roll off of the gears. Tuesday night net. How about KN6 KWM? KN6 KWM. Dan, Dan and Biggs. I'm in and out. In and out. All right. Well, if you ever come across a friend of mine, Larry Button Button, Pest control over there, they're trying to convince him to become a ham forever, but I just can't seem to get him. Anyway, I've had that luck on it. It's so. Anyway, thank you for being out there and being in bigs. Appreciate it. Thank you for checking in. I've got you. Got you down.
How about n6jlx, Jn6udc? How about Ko6kkw. And kj6ujx? Okay, I think this one checked in one time on Echo Link. How about November 6th? Zed Oscar? That's Ted or anyone on Echo link wanting to check in please come now. Nothing hurt there for a roll call. That's the list as I have it Looking for later missed members later missed.
Members first. Please come now. Kn6pju There he is. Hopefully your Thanksgiving went well. Lots of leaves falling down in our neighborhood lately. So anyway, got you down. Are you going to be sticking around? Probably not. I'm checking in and out. And I did have a good Thanksgiving, cold and all. Take care. Yeah, you as well. Happy holidays. Merry Christmas to all, by the way. Alrighty. Any other? How about we'll just open it up for members, late members, missed members, and how about visitors? Anyone want to check in before we move to the next step? Please come now. Okay. Nothing heard. Nothing heard. Remember the two questions there? Ham Santa, what's he bringing to you? Maybe any goals you have for 26. But right now.
Now it's time for the swap segment. How about that? We'll check that out. Anyone out there has something that they want to sell, trade, give away or want, please come now with your call sign, W6Js. W6Js. Tom, go ahead. I have a balsam wood model airplane kit. It's like, I think it's like 42 inch wingspan. I think it's all there except for the motor. And I'm willing to give it to anybody who wants it. I don't want to throw it in the trash. It's got to be worth something. But my days are gone for doing that stuff. I shake too much. But if anybody wants it, they can have it. KN6PJU. Yeah, go ahead, Dennis. A little more information, Tom. What kit is it? How big is it? You may have said, but.
A little more information. Be interesting, if nothing else. Let me go on the other side of my hamshack, and when my turn comes around, I'll give you the information. I'll be listening. Thank you. That sounds very interesting. I can think of one other member who has something like that hanging up in his cat kitchen, of all things. He likes planes. I'll just put you that way. All right. Any other things, ham radio related items to sell, trade, giveaway or want. If you do, please come now with your call. All right. This is Kilo, November 6th, Mike Golf, Kilo here in Chico. Net control. Time for check backs there. Let's see what Jamie's up to.kn6pww.it.
This is Jamie kn6tww here in. Okay. It's freezing cold outside, Chico. It's been colder. But, hey, you know, it's pretty cold. A couple of things. First off, some of you are probably aware that Gears has purchased a trailer and is refurbishing it for radio operations. The walls have been stripped out. The frame has been cleaned of surface rust. Tail light wiring is in place that. Thanks, Glenn, for that. And temporary floor is back in place. So the thing is, you know, moving along bit by bit, we're actually getting something done together. It's. It's kind of great. A lot of folks have worked on the trailer so far, but I'd like, you know, it's ongoing. It ain't done yet. So there's plenty left to do, and we need a lot of help. But I'd really like to thank Chris, Chris and Glenn, specifically among all the folks that have worked on it. Those folks are really putting a lot of time into it, so I really appreciate that.
What else is going on. Gears memberships are due, so check your radiator. I think there's a link in there to re up for next year. Also remember, Gears General membership meeting is Monday, December 15th. We're going to have election of officers for 2026 gift exchange. That's a $20 max anonymous gift exchange and also potluck. So I promise that I will not give a mass based presentation. It looks like it's going to be a pretty good meeting. Unfortunately I can't be there. I'm going to be traveling, but it's it. You know the the December meeting is always a good one. Going home with December. There is no official Gears POTA plan for December. Our pattern has been the last.
Saturday of the month. That's the 27th. It's two days after Christmas, so I don't think we can expect much there anyway. So there's no, there's no official plan for that, but I understand at least one member is trying to get together a group to do a pota. Anyway, we'll, we'll see how that goes. So look, look for email on that. But so far there's no official plan, and that's plenty from me. So kn6pww back to control. Okay. Yes, Kind of dog days of winter. I'll call them for this last poda right after Thanksgiving. A lot of fog and stuff around kind of later. People like myself don't like driving in the fog at night, so makes it a little tough. So I could see that being a problem. Maybe. Maybe think of doing parts on the air more earlier in the day.
For next. The next time you do one in the winter there. Anyway, just a thought. Okay. Thank you, Jamie. Appreciate it. Let's see what Larry's up to. KF6NCX. Yeah. Good evening, Steve and the rest of the net. This is Larry, KF6NCX, and Chico. Well, a couple of things. We had a board meeting last night, the Gears board monthly meeting. And one thing I want to mention that came up the meeting was a suggestion that Gears might work on developing a remote HF station. We've got a tower that was donated to the club. Chris and Glenn picked that one up. It's a 30 foot tower. And we have some. I have.
As I understand it, the elements to a good antenna that Charles Byrd, now a silent key, donated to the club. But we have the beginnings anyway, of creating a station that could be operated remotely. Remote operating is becoming more and more popular. We need to get a radio that we could use for this. And the idea would be members could sign up and use the use this station right from their homes remotely. And who knows, it could even become an attraction for drawing new members into the club, since that would give them the right to use this fine facility of a sizable tower with a yagi on top, hopefully with.
What's needed though, is a place to locate it, for one thing. So anyway, it's something to talk about and think about the other thing. Steve, you asked how did Jevin and I do in CQ Worldwide CW contest over the weekend and we felt like we did pretty well. We had a good time. I think we operated for 26 hours and we made 440 contacts. And Jevin had this idea that maybe we could get a hundred different countries in one weekend. He thought that would be great. DXCC in a weekend, but I think we got 80 countries. Anyway. We felt good about how we did and it was fun. Of course, when I look at all the ST tours that have been posted, ours was kind of a low to Midland.
Performance, but we're happy with it. Okay, back to you, Steve. This is KF6NCS. Okay, couple comments there, but first off, how many, how much power were you guys running? We were running 500 watts. Okay. Yeah, 500 watts. That, that definitely makes a difference. Okay, yeah, great. Well, hey, I was, I was just happy with trying to get anything. In fact, I wasn't going to do it. It was kind of discouraging listening to how fast everything was, but sounds like a lot of people were using, you know, some TX macros, maybe some memories. I know you used to have, like, a device that you can remotely operate your transceiver. So anyway, it was like 40 words a minute and stuff like that, but I still listened in on Sunday some, and I ended up with 19 contacts. And I was pretty happy with that.
Especially with them going so fast. And so I'd take me oh two or three runs of them giving their call sign for me to get it and I was like, well is that A, is that a B or D? Is that a B or a D? You know, kind of thing. So then I might have to look them up on QRZ a little bit just to make sure and stuff like this. So anyway, I did have some fun with it, a lot of learning but. And I was happy with what I did as well. But I know we're near 440 of course, so congrats on that. Anyway, let me reset. Maybe it'll come to me. The other thing I was thinking but I guess that's it for now. How about we go to Tom W6Js? I'm here at W6JS. The model I'm looking at is called a Sturdy Bird. It's got a 53 inch wingspan.
It weighs four pounds. It's a remote control. It has the three servos and a battery pack for it, but I don't have the transmitter. A Futaba. Looks like it's all here. As far as I can tell. I don't know what else it's missing, but welcome to it. Free. This is Tom W. 6Js. We're clear. Okay, sounds good. Yeah, if Dennis has further questions, I'm sure he'll. He'll come back here. Okay, let's see who's next on the list here. How about. How about we hear from Bill real quick? Bill, KC6UFE, KC6UFE. Bill and Cape. Good evening, everyone. Just enjoying the weather. I like the fog. Makes everything seem all warm and cozy.
Just want to question you. For you there, Steve, what kind of power level you running tonight? Seemed like you might be a little hot. Other than that, not much going on back to net. Okay. Well, yeah, I've been just kind of talking close to the mic because of the net control and having people tell me before that they can't hear me. So anyway, so, so I'll back off here a little bit. I'm not doing anything different. I'm only running 25 watts, so it's nothing but the power. It's all about me and being too close to the mic. I'm sure can't imagine anybody not hearing you. Yeah, yeah, I get it. KM6MGK. And honestly, that becomes a bit discouraging when people tell you they don't want you on the air. So anyway, thank you very much.
Any solar updates? Because I've seen some weird things this morning. 40 meters was pretty good I think last night I was operating FT8 and getting the morning before I was operating FT8 early morning and getting China, Russia and Taiwan. So I mean the 40 meter band's been really, really in good in the mornings. But what have you thought about solar stuff? A couple days ago we had an X class flare. Other than that, things have been pretty flat and nominal for this time of year and a lot of the upper bands are cutting out right at sunset and even 40, 80, 160 running all night and it's kind of sweet. So back in that. Thank you very much. Yeah, I put up a new off center fed antenna and was experimenting with that. It's kind of.
East west oriented orientated. So I think I'm getting some north south stuff pretty good. But tonight, tonight was kind of horrible. So. Anyway, hey, thank you for the report. I appreciate it. Okay, we'll swing back around to Greg K6 Gab. Good evening. What's happening? Hey, good evening. This is Greg K6 Gab. I gotta go fast because I got another at 8 and they called me first. I am hoping that Ham Santa will hook me up with one of the gates of 710. And my goal for the next year is to get better antennas up in the air. I gotta go. Thanks to everybody. 70, 30, 73. Yep. I'll probably start doing that Bloomer Net maybe next week. So. Yeah, we'll chat with you later. Hopefully we'll meet for coffee. And good evening to you. Let's see. Oh, yeah. Next up, Chris KN6JHT. Good evening, Steve.
Steve in the net. This is K6JHT, Chris and Chico. Well, I had one contact on CW this weekend and that made me feel all rosy. One contact to Arizona, and that was pretty great. But Steven, Larry, pretty impressive with your contacts this weekend. When I put up my DIY commander this weekend, I had a little surprise. It all collapsed on me. So I spent 20 frustrated minutes getting untangled and put back together and extended with all the six elements. So I put some hose clamps on each of the each of the joints on that. So I am extending it with confidence now. I did notice. I know Jamie mentioned it, but I must have missed it. The Gears Christmas music meeting, it said the 15th on the email, but on the calendar it said the 22nd.
So if anyone's out there to add some clarification I would appreciate it. And as far as POTA goes I wasn't able to make it this month but if we're planning on or if some interested parties are interested in December putta or maybe some people want to get together and plan out a winter field day plan for January I'd be into it so let me know. This is KN6 Jade Sheet back to you Steve okay yeah a couple of comments Winterfield day I know the GARS group at least is planning to go out to Black Butte Lake that's my understanding. Jeremy and I are probably gonna travel out that way and check it out to find a decent spot for that. We've gone there before both of us have separately but find someplace maybe that more people can join in together might be pretty interesting. Cool so dress for success anyway I don't know that too many other people run want to do Winterfield Bay.
Most of them want to stay home, I guess, anyway. And let's see. Comments? Oh, yeah, hose clamps. I know the DS commander. You know, McCallum. He experimented with those and ended up putting surgical tubing around the clamp so that it would have lessen the effect of any interference and damaging the. Damaging the pole going up as well. I think that was the main reason. Then he came up with these plastic clips. Plastic. Like clamps. I think you can buy those separately from them. Just a thought. So anyway, out there, all I got. Anyone out there? Maybe Jamie can clarify the event. I think 15th sounds about right. Can you clarify that? Monthly meeting, slash potluck. Sorry, I think that's kn6pww. I think I missed the context there. You talked.
About the GARs or the. The Winter Field Day date? No, Chris was quite. Maybe you're on the other net too. But Chris was questioning that the calendar said like the 22nd and you stated the 15th for the membership meeting slash potluck present giveaway stuff. So can you clarify that date and time? I think I better check that because I may well be a week off. So I think I'm gonna check before I give a definitive answer. We gotta. We got a week to figure that out. K60WW. Jim, please come. The Gears Christmas party is on December 15.
Okay. And time. December 15th. That's Monday. Doors open at six. Meeting starts at seven. Thank you, Jim. Appreciate it. So six o', clock, December 15th. Should answer Chris's question on that. Thank you very much. KN6 Pww. Jamie, thanks, Jim. And I've learned to check myself if somebody questions what I'm saying. So, yeah, I really appreciate you coming back. And it's such a surprise to find out I'm right for once. So. KN6pww. Thanks. Okay. Rolled through the list pretty good there, I think. Let's see, anything else I can come up with? Well, I did do a Parks on the Air. Looks like I'm next year, so. KN6MGK. I did do a poda on Saturday.
Saturday. But over here, just locally at the Bidwell Sack river area there, I actually ended up by the boat ramp because they keep locking that gate over there by Scotty. So backed up there and kind of next to the restroom. But that was kind of disparaging a little bit, but it wasn't so bad. Set up an inverted, no, set up a little vertical. Pat came around with his van which was nice. He's got a heater in his van. So we put up an infed half wave and we made, I think we that CQ Worldwide was going and it was rough to find a spot on, on CW at all. So I was hoping but I think I made one CW contact and I, I was trying to change bands, anything I could do to get away from that but no, ended up going on FT8 so, so doing data and got like, I don't know, 30 contacts I think on FT8.
And then we did Pat did one too and he got his I don't remember if it was 10 or 15 or something I can't remember no maybe it was I think his was 24 something like that contacts but all FT8 so it's not my favorite mode but it's good in the jam you know it's good to know that you could do three things you know sideband, FT8 and so on. Well it was unfortunate I didn't hear people's goals out there too much because one of mine for for 2026 definitely is wanting to learn like Vera FM, Vara, HF and Winlink put some skills like that together and some targeted communications so I've got a few goals like that also continue with CW and stuff like that a few other modes I wouldn't mind doing some FL digi some digital modes so maybe into next year maybe some group maybe has to be the paradise group will put together.
A digital workshop or something like that. There's a couple guys, Dennis Riggs and Jay up there that know FT8 like the back of their hand. And no FL digi, in case anyone's interested in like, PSK31. There's also one guy up there, Dan Smith, who does, you know, Earth, Moon, Earth. I'd love for him to show us how that all goes. But anyway, those are a few things for me. So let me, Ricky, let me, let me just Long winded Steve here. KN6MGK. What's the list? As I have it, let's check for any members that need to check in before we close the net. Any members, visitors wanting to check in and make comments, please come now. Okay. Well, it's been a good net. Wish there were some more folks that had some thoughts about.
Ham radio items they might want for Christmas, and maybe some goals that people would have. I found that to be the case over the last few years. People are doing the same things over and over again, it seems like. But anyway, any comments for the net? Any comments for the betterment of our group? Please come now. I heard a key up out there. It is December 2nd, so we've got us a few weeks here before Christmas, but I want everyone to have a very blessed holiday season and Merry Christmas to all. So we'll just do one final check here for comments for the betterment of the group. Kilo Nov 6 Mike Golf Kilo here, Neck control. Please come down with your call sign if you have any questions.
Comments F6NCX Larry, go ahead. Okay, Steve, well, since you you are pleading for goals, I I can give you a couple Jevin and I used our club call WN6P whiskey November 6th papa in the contest last weekend. We got that call maybe about a year ago and used it mostly when we're operating together and it belongs. We tried sort of honored Bill Pope by assigning the call to the William Pope contest Club, we call it. Anyway, I mentioned we were hoping kind of a long shot hope to to get DXCC for the call sign WN6P over the weekend. But we didn't do it. So I.
Have a goal of getting the 20 missing countries or 20 more countries so that we do get DXCC for it in 2026. And another thing. I'll mention another goal. We worked lots of Japanese stations. They were coming in pretty fast and furious on 10 and 15 meters in the afternoons. Saturday, Friday and Saturday and Sunday too. And my goal was to try to work all the prefect prefectures in Japan. I don't know if we did that, but if we didn't, I'd like to get all those in 2026. The prefectures are. I guess they're kind of like ST states. That's how it seems to me in Japan. Okay, those are a couple.
Goals gave back to you. This is Larry, KF6NCX. Okay, that sounds real interesting and I did think of my other comment from earlier but here, not so long ago I was over at parks on the air spot and a guy comes up to me, asks me what we're doing. I told him am sure oh yeah, I'm an amateur radio operator. He gave us call sign. We looked him up and he goes yeah, I studied with Bill Pope, you know, and this gentleman's a little older so. Oh, interesting. Yeah. So that name comes up quite a bit around here. So well known individual and thank you for doing that. So the other comment I have is station four remote. Well, seems to me like you guys should already have one because that Kenwood 990 out pretty, pretty hard to beat that. I think you even have an amplifier for it. So. So maybe you guys ought to consider just keeping that for the club for that remote station. I don't think you'll ever get much better than that. So that was my confidence.
There. All right. Thank you, Larry. Thank you. Group. Let's just do one final check before we close any comments. This is Kilo November 6th. Mike off, Kilo. Okay. I there was a heterodyne in there, so there's two. Let's go with Chris because I heard him clear probably because he's like right across the street from me. KN6JC Go ahead. Thanks, Steve. Yeah, we got the double whammy. Well, I want to thank Jim and Jamie for the clarification there on the Christmas party. And I do have a goal for this year. I'm a believer in achievable goals. Not that Larry's isn't achievable or admirable, but achievable for me. My goal is to call CQ on cw. I made a couple comments or a couple contacts recently and I think this year is the is the year I'm going to call CQ on cw. So that's it for me.
And if you're interested in winlink or VARA ac, I played a lot with it when I was living in San Diego. I had a small apartment and the only thing I had to use for an antenna without the apartment manager saying, texting my wife and sending a picture and saying, hey, what's that? Was to tune up the rain gutter. So I played a lot of digital modes using the rain gutter and Windlink and VARA AC was pretty fun when I had the free time. So that's it for me. Tan6ht. Back to you, Steve. Okay, well, great. Well, yeah, a couple of us over here, friends of mine are all putting up 2 meter sideband Yagis by the way, and we live so close we can always practice CW back and forth on 2 meters so we're not bothering too many people. The people around the world have to listen to our to our bad. Our bad cw. So let me know on that. The other thing I didn't mention that I've been doing lately has been setting up meshtastic. Got a couple of nodes up. Noticed that around.
Here medium fast seems to be the mode. Got a couple guys up in paradise working on it. A couple guys in Clanton county working on it. Be sure nice if we could get some more folks in the Gears club or even around here. You don't have to be a ham to get involved and put a few nodes out there because the more the better. That's what I got. Let's see. There was another person out there heterodyning with Chris. So more comments, please. Come now. It's your call. KN6PWW all right, Jamie, go ahead. Since listening to Chris now, I got a whole list of things. First off, Chris, I'm right there with you. I have in fact called CQ on on cw but it's been a really long time. So I'm with you there and I'm gonna, I'm gonna share that goal with you. Maybe we'll end up answering you each other. It could happen. The other thing is regarding two meters between.
144 and 144.1. That is in the ARRL band plan for CW on 2 meters. So hey, you know, it's right there. And in fact, Larry was, was helping me practice there for a little while. Sending, sending cw. We joked about it at the time. It was almost like using a tin can and string between because we're only a few blocks away. But yeah, actually does work. I was real happy with that. And we do have a gears repeater, so hey, we could do that. Last thing I was going to mention though was we did actually have a POTA at the clay pits. I've heard different reports on that, but I know for sure two guys showed up, Chris Koenig and Greg Broyles. Both were there. Talked to CHR Chris earlier this evening. Don't want to steal too much of his thunder, but he said that there was the antenna rig that he brought.
Had some difficulties because of the high iron content in the soil and you can. You can tell him I repeated that in his absence but it strikes me as being kind of an interesting problem to solve. I know folks have operated there before successfully so I think we got to go back there sometime maybe in slightly better weather. I showed up just. Just as they were leaving Classic so. And it was. And it was. It was pretty cold out there, I gotta say. Anyway, that's it for me. KN6TWW and I gotta jump to another net so I'm gonna call 73. Bye. Alrighty. Yep, I set up my Shelly Gonz vertical there. No problem. I think Larry has one of those. He ought to get that out and. And put it in the ground. It worked fine when I was there but I do prefer the spillway boat if you ever get off that way. Jamie, over by the spillway by the dam there's.
Good location, so I prefer that for Lake Oroville anyway. Good evening to you. 7:3, by the way. Alrighty. Any final comments before we close? Run a little bit late here. Kilo Nov 6 Mike Golf Kilo. Yeah, well, one of my goals for this year, I still got about maybe a dozen more to do, but it's 100 poda activations. I'm getting close. I think I'm at 88 or 89, something like that. So about a dozen more in the next month. I can do it, I think, but it's going to be a push. I might try to go for five in one day one of these times anyway. All righty. I guess that's about it. It's been a pleasure to be in net control. I think I'm going to take a break for a while from that task anyway. Y' all take care out there and we'll be talking down the coax line at some point. I'm. That's what I like about.
God. So this concludes this week's golden empire amateur radio society club net. Thank you to everyone who checked in. You're invited back next week. This is steve kn6mgk returning the w6rhc repeater to its normal monitoring service. That is closed at 8:19pm 73. All kn6mgk is clear.
