GEARS E TX (146.850 MHz) recordings for 2025-12-10

This is kf6mcx. Could I get an audio check, please? W6rhc repeater check three. Good evening, Lester. How am I sounding? Sounding real good. Come back again. Let me listen to that one more time. 6k uo, this is kf6ncx. Very clear. Not a. Not a bit of scratch or anything. Okay, great. Thank you, and we'll talk to you in a few minutes. This is larry, kf6ncx.

Qst. Qst, qst. This is Larry, located in Chico, your net control station for tonight's Golden Empire Amateur Radio society club. Net. It's Larry. KF6NCX. This net meets every Tuesday evening at 7:30pm on the W6RHC repeater for the purpose of fellowship and public service through amateur radio. Is there any station with emergency or priority traffic? Are there any general announcements for the Net? If you have an announcement for the Net, please respond with your call sign, W6js. Yes, w6js. Go ahead. Tomorrow.

Of Sunday. We had two new General or two new extras and one General passed. I gotta thank Jim for taking my my place and because I was at a Christmas party in Reno. But we have three upgrades. That was great. Two. Two extras and one General. Congratulations. Yeah, that's good news. Good work. We'll be grateful to Jim for that. I have a couple of announcements. I want to remind everybody that the Gears Christmas party is happening two weeks from yesterday on December 15th at the Chico Library. Doors open at 6pm and the festivities start at 7. If you're interested, please bring a gift, an anonymous gift to exchange with someone.

Should be gift wrapped and shouldn't cost more than $20 and should in some way relate to ham radio. And then please bring some some food to share because we're going to have a potluck. So that's the Christmas party on December 15th at the Chico Library. The other thing is we've been having this slow speed heat Morse code Net on Thursday evenings from starting at 7pm and we've been having problems with the propagation with people not being able to hear each other. So we're going to try a new time and hope that it works better. It will be at 3:30pm on Thursday and it's the same frequency on the 40 meter band, 7.052. So that's 3:30pm on Thursday for the CW net.

Okay, it's time for roll call and check ins. When checking in, please give your call sign name and location. Please key up for a full second before speaking due to the repeater lag time. First is can6pww. How about K6EST? Good evening, Larry, and thank you for doing the net. This is Jim, K6EST in Chico. And I'll be in and out tonight. Thank you. Okay, Jim, thank you for the check in. How about kg6k u o? Good evening, Larry. This is kg6k u o.

And I'm net control tonight about W W6Js. This is W6JS. We're right across the freeway from Denny's, and we'll be hanging around. Okay, good deal, Tom. We'll talk to you a little later. Daryl, mobile.

Coming up from Sacramento. Hey, great. Thanks for the check in, Daryl. You're going to be sticking around for the Round Table? Negative. I'm mobile. I'm driving in this crazy fog. Okay, well, be careful, take it slow, and we'll talk to you next week. Thanks for the check in. Next is k7kfs. About KD6 lok. Okay, are there any late members who want to check in? Any members who have were doing something or other and just got on and missed their name the first time around or their call sign the first time around? How about any visitors? Do we have any visitors tonight who'd like to check in? Okay, no visitors. Anybody else at all who wants to check in? Anyone waiting in the wings? Now is your chance.

Okay, well we have one more item and that's the swap segment. Does anyone have any ham radio related items that they would like or that they have and would like to sell? Please come now if you have something for the swap segment. Well, let's go back around and go with the round table. Looks like I'm first on the list. Lucky me. Well, I had some fun last weekend with the 160 meter ARRL concept.

Test. I have an inverted L antenna and I think have the right, I guess you'd call it a transformer now. So that was set up and some radials on the ground, and I had a pretty good time. I was. I was hoping to try to make some contacts going qrp, but it was very difficult. I only made one that way, and it's with a huge station on the edge of the Bay Area. So that was the way I was able to do that. And then I tried 100 watts and had some success that way. But I finally cranked it up using my amp to 500 watts and had better luck that way. I got as far east as, I think one station in Wisconsin and one station in Illinois.

And a couple in Missouri, and all the rest were sort of in the West. But it was fun. And the other thing I want to mention is this weekend is a good another good contest, another arrl contest, the 10 meter contest. And it's both Morse code and single sideband, starts on Friday at 4 and runs until Sunday at 4. So there should be a lot of activity on the air. And hopefully 10 feeders will be open. It has been lately. It was open today, which is we'll hope for the best for this weekend. Okay, that's it for me. Let's move along. Next is Tom W6JF well, I I had drooping antennas.

And I have an N fed. It's a 40 meter and it goes across the whole property and it was grouping a little bit. I had to. I really, when I put it up there, I put it with a Dacron rope or some antenna rope they call it or whatever. And all I had to do is pull about a couple feet of it and straighten it out. Then I got a fan dipole. I had to do that too. I left a little bit in our case to wind moves the trees around so I don't break it. But that's all I have and maybe I'll get better reception on 40 meters. Okay, this is Tom W6JS. We're clear. Okay, sounds good, Tom. Good luck. Good luck with those antennas. I'll look for them when I drive by your place across the freeway from Denny's, which I do occasionally. Next we have greg k6 gabriel.

What's going on, Greg? Hey, just Ken, a quick comment. I thought I heard you say at the beginning that the next meeting and the gift exchange and potluck is going to be two weeks from last night. But I'm pretty sure it's actually one week from last night on the 15th, per Jim's last email to the group. That's all. Hey, thanks for correcting me. You are right. I don't know. My, my math isn't working too good. I know it was on the 15th, and somehow I was thinking that the 15th was two weeks from yesterday. But gee, yesterday was the 8th. Take seven days, and that's the 15th. So I appreciate you setting me straight on that. And you're right. It's happening next Monday, a week from last night. Good deal.

It should be fun. Next on our list is case c6ufe, bill and capay. 66 UFE, Bill and Cape. Good evening to the group. I notice everybody's signals are sounding a little foggy tonight. So hope you're all enjoying the weather. I guess it's here to stay, is what they say. At least we're not getting an atmospheric river like they are up in the Northwest. So, anyway, not much else for me tonight. Back to net KC6UFE. Okay, Bill. Good. Yeah, that's a good point. It's better, I guess. It's better to have cold and fog. Thank you.

A big rainstorm, an atmospheric river that washes us out. So you're gonna get on for the 10 meter contest? I will probably check out the band, see what's there. And if there's something I want to make contact with, I will. But I'm not gonna vigorously make contact with stations. Over. Not gonna sit there for 36 hours and non stop or anything like that, huh? I just don't have that kind of patience anymore. Back to you, Larry. Okay, good enough. Well, we've gone through the list. Is there anyone else who wants to make another comment or anything like that? Have anything to say, anybody at all?

Or is anybody appeared who hasn't had a chance to check in yet? If. If so, please give us your name and call sign. Okay. Well, good enough. This concludes this week's Golden Empire Amateur Radio Society clubnet. Thank you to everyone who checked in tonight. You were invited back next week. This is Larry. KF6NCX returning the W6RHC repeater to its normal monitoring service. The net is closed at 7:47pm 73 to all. KF6NCX is cleared.
