K7kff monitor. Hello, Larry. Are we going to have a net tonight? I was just wondering that myself. If, if you give me. I'm not sure who's supposed to do it tonight, but if you give me just a minute, I think I could set up and. And run it here. So hang on, and we'll see if the person who's assigned to do it shows up. This is KF6MCX, KG6KUO. It's the fifth night, so I don't know who it is there either. This is K6GAB. I think there was some discussion that Steve, Km6MGK might normally have done it, but he said he was unavailable to do it. I don't know if anybody else stepped up. Okay, well, this is KF6FX. Larry. Hang on just a second. I'll get my stuff together to do it.

Okay, this is KF6NCX Larry in Chico and it looks like I'll be net control tonight for the 2 meter gears net and things might be a little bumpy here, but I think we'll get through it fine. Just give me a second here. Hope everybody's having a good evening on the almost the end of the year. Okay, Here we go. QST, QST, QST. This is Larry, KF6NCX located in Chico, your net control station for tonight's Golden Empire Amateur Radio Society Club Net. This net meets every Tuesday evening at 7:30pm at least it's supposed to. Tonight, 7:36pm for the purpose of fellowship and public service through amateur radio. Is there any station with emergency or priority traffic? Are there any general announcements for the net? If you have an announcement for the net, please respond with your call sign. K6 gab. K6 gab. Go ahead please. Greg. Okay, a couple of events people might want to know about. Winterfield Day is coming up. The Glenn County Amateur Radio Society has invited us to come participate with them. They are going to be at the Black Butte Lake at the Grizzly Beach Flat area. They're just going for the day, so that'll be January 24th in the daytime only. They're planning to pack up and leave around dark. But if anybody's interested in Winter Field Day there, it's going to be going on. I'm going to break for a second and reset. Okay. And the other thing is that the Paradise Amateur Radio Club is going to be doing a yagi build this Saturday. The goal is to build a tape measure yagi that can be used for direction finding and other things like that. The president is Jay Johnston and he's asked the people RSVP with him if you'd like to go. His call sign is November 6th with Eindiopapa. November 6th with Eindiopa. His email is good on QRZ and he can send you an equipment list of the parts that you'll need to bring if you want to do that. That's what I have for today. Thanks, Greg. And Winter Field day, is that January 24th, is that right? Yeah, that's right. The event runs into Sunday if people are so inclined that the GARS group is going to stop at dark on Saturday. Great, thanks. I'll add one piece of information here. Thursday is the day we usually have the slow speed Morse code net on 40 meters. We've been having it at 3:30pm at 77520 on the 40 meter band. The frequency is 7520 at 3:30 in the afternoon. And we're gonna do it again on New Year's Day, even though it's, it's New Year's Day. So if you want to participate in that, we will be there at 3:30 on Thursday. Okay, it's time for roll call and check ins. When checking in, please give your call sign your name and location. Please key up for a full second before speaking due to the repeater lag time. So it's going to take me just a second here to get back to the roll call sheet because I wasn't exactly prepared to do this when we, when we started. So bear with me a second and I'll be right back. KF6 NCX.

You have a good evening and a happy new year. Next is N6JLX. And last on our list is ko6kkw. Well, do we have any late members who would like to check in or any visitors? Please come now with your call sign. Ylh. Do we have your name and location, please? Yeah, this is Wyoming, located in Palo Alto, California, California at the moment. Coming in via Echo. Okay, well, great, Jevin, good to hear from you. And are you going to be with us for the round table? I would like to, but I'm going to have to drop off in a few minutes here. So go ahead and in and out, but wish everyone happy holidays and happy New Year. Okay, great. Well, thank you. Good to hear you, Jeff. And great that you could check in and come back again some other evening when you have more time. That would be great. Okay, well, let's start at the top of our kind of a short roundtable list we have here. Let's start with Greg. K6 Gab. What have you got for us tonight? Greg? Just thought I'd mention I've been playing with the meshtastic thing lately and it seems like it's kind of going crazy here in Butte county. There's probably 15 new notes added in the last two or three weeks. The Paradise Club has been going kind of crazy with the Meshtastic. They put up quite a few new notes and the Share Search and Rescue team has also been putting up notes. They've got one up in Forest Ranch and I think they've done another one downtown. So if people are interested in that or they've been playing with that, maybe get it back out and try it again. You may be able to see some things that weren't there a month ago. So that's pretty much it for me today. Okay, well, thanks, Greg. That's interesting. And when you say you've been playing with it, what have you actually been doing? I know we had a presentation on it some months ago and I've got to admit, I don't really understand it. Do you have conversations or what? Just what goes on on meshtastic? So we built a low, low information mode, essentially sending back and forth text and data. It doesn't have enough bandwidth to do voice or p I bought a node a little more than a year ago, and I've been trying to get it to work, but I had a bad antenna and there weren't that many other stations to talk to. So it's been kind of idle for me. But in the last couple weeks, I bought a new antenna and then everybody else is coming online. So now I'm able to see other nodes and they're seeing me. So it seems like we're getting some ignition here. The basic idea is to be able to have text conversation back and forth or use it for remote telemetry, that sort of thing. Thanks. That sounds. That sounds pretty cool. Glad to hear it's working for you. Next on our list is KC6UFE. What's going on, Bill? KC6UFE. Bill in cape. Good evening to the group and. Well, looks like we're getting a little rain coming up here. Starts kicking in tomorrow night after dark, I think, for a couple more days. So keep an eye on your lightning meter. And first of the year, new laws again. And the one that I noticed might have the most impact is the speed limit in the school zone is dropping from 25 to 2020. So be advised there, go slow. I didn't see anything about 35 miles an hour unless children are present. So it may just be 20, regardless. And the other thing is when you're going down the highway and you got to slow down or move over, they've expanded that out to include just about everybody that works for the state. So keep an eye on that as well. I got pulled over one time, told the cop I had no idea about it. It had just come into play at the time up in Oregon. And he let me go and said, pay attention. So, Anyway, back to Met. See you, Larry. KC6UFE. Okay, thanks, Bill. Thanks for that information. That. That's interesting. No laws directed at hams, I take it, right? Nothing that. I saw something about removing the soldering requirement from the extra class license, but that's about it. Back to you. Good, good. Now I now maybe I could consider going for an extra class license. Okay, well, I guess it's my turn. Last one on the list left. Larry. KF6NCX. Well, Jevin, who was on the net just a little bit ago back home now. He was up here for Christmas and stayed for a few days. And over the weekend we made an effort to participate in the Stu Perry 160 meter contest. We tried something new. We tried elevated radials. Instead of radials on the ground, we have an inverted L antenna that we use for 160. It mostly just kind of works people in the western part of the country, but sometimes we get a little further east and sometimes we get Hawaii. But we thought with elevated radials maybe we would have better luck. So we put up a couple elevated radials and, and thought we'd invest some more time. We were going to take turns and operate and if things were good, we were going to go all night, conceivably. And things started out for the first four hours we did okay. I think we made 33 contacts in those first four hours. But then Saturday evening things really slowed down for Saturday night I would say. And I think we only made eight in the next four hours. And so we decided to get some sleep and then set the alarm for like 3:30 in the morning and see how it went after that. But unfortunately it wasn't. It was actually worse by then. And we only made eight in the last four hours. That was from about 3am to 7am so not too productive. And I spent some time reading the news and other things while I was trying to operate. But it was fun and a learning experience. So maybe we'll try something else next time around. Okay, well, that's about it for me. Let me ask if there anyone out, is there anyone else who wants to check in? Anybody who's come along and wants to join our net tonight? I don't hear anyone. So I think we'll, we'll wrap it up at 7:55pm Please come back again next Tuesday and we'll have a, instead of a substitute net control, we'll have a first stringer and I think things will go more smoothly. I don't really have my script again in front of me so I'll just kind of ad lib it here and say please come back. And everybody, thanks for checking in and have a good evening and a happy New Year to everyone. This is Larry KF6MCX returning the gears repeater to its normal operating function at 7:55pm okay, good night everyone.

Leave id. Thank you.
