W6GRC TX (147.105 MHz) recordings for 2026-01-16

Facebook.

W6grc testing.

That was a rough copy. That'd be a 6 lnd.

I'm gonna disconnect, and I want you to connect 70.

Speaker A: So I guess the million dollar question is
Speaker B: how many nodes can connect at one time? Okay,
Speaker A: so several nodes. So right now you're connected in. I can go in and connect another node right now? Correct. Let me see if it shows you connected to mine.
Speaker C: It's not showing me connected, Gary.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm going to be connecting.

All right. Is that working? Gary? W6l&d via all star.

Okay. Jeremy saying that his connection. Now back up one second.

Jim, I have a RCM device that has the All Star built into. Looks like it's the size of a PI. It's fairly old, but it connects right into a radio. Have you ever seen one of those before?

I'll. For is this actually connects into a radio. Connects the WI fi, I believe. And so you drive it down the road.

Speaker A: Assuming it's got a built in Linux computer made into it or some sort of ARM processor. I've never had any of the cables to it. That's why I never really put it together or figured it out.
Speaker B: K9 kilo alpha delta monitoring. Canine Kilo Alpha Delta, radio check. Anybody copy?
Speaker A: Canine Delta station. Yeah, we copy you. Sorry, we're having some audio. So that's why you're hearing lots of one sided conversations.
Speaker B: Okay, I'm sorry, I didn't copy all that. I heard that you may have heard me. I'm up in Shasta county, where are you guys at? And could you repeat what you just said? It sounded important.
Speaker A: It's not too important. I'm in Glenn county in Orland and I have a repeater down here on the valley floor that we're working on right now getting the All Star notes configured in. But we actually have an alternative here locally that we're talking to at the same time. So there's lots of one sided conversations going on.
Speaker B: Okay, I caught that you're working on Glenn county repeater, All Star node. I'm not too familiar with the All Star node. My radio, the way I programmed it is Elk Creek N6Y C K Nora 6 Yellow. Charles King. Is that your repeater? K9K 80.
Speaker A: All. Star note on here next couple of weeks.
Speaker B: Okay, well you're about a one on the signal report. Unreadable or barely readable, just to let you know. And I believe you said affirmative, it is the All Star repeater down in elk Creek and 6 y c k. So with that I'm gonna just monitor since I can't barely copy you. But thank you for answering. Up Canine King, Adam, David, Claire.
Speaker A: All right, how do I sound now? I'm. I've taken my handy talkie and went up to high power.
Speaker B: 100% better. I actually heard everything you said. So confirm you're on an ht. And what did you do differently?
Speaker A: So what I was doing is I had my antenna unplugged from my HT and we're working on a node with the repeater that's going to go up on the valley there up on the mountain. The call sign has changed on the repeater. It's now whiskey6 call from your Charlie and we're working on the repeater down here on the valley floor. And the repeater that's currently in operation, we're duplicating it right now. So there's two repeaters going on. So that. So we were trying to go low power down Here on the valley floor to work on it. So that's why you're hearing one sided conversations. Sorry about that.
Speaker B: Well, don't be sorry because you're educating me. I'm a brand new operator just a few days in, so I barely know what you're talking about. But I will give you a signal report. You're like a 5:9 if you use that metric, 100% clarity. So confirm for my records I can update. I'll use the police fanatic since I'm familiar. Nora, six Yellow, Charles King. That's Nora. Good. And change it, let me see. Whiskey 6, Golf, Romeo, Charlie. Is that right?
Speaker A: That is correct. So you're at New Ham and you have a 9 call sign. Is that what I'm hearing?
Speaker B: Yeah, affirmative. I got my general license. Probably gonna work on my extra. Well, I am gonna work on my extra. Sometime this year. 2020 26. When I got my general, I made up a vanity call sign. I used canine. You can use any numeric you want in the United States, I think, except for zero. And so my vanity call sign has sentimental application to me, both the canine and the KAD and they both go together. So I'm a west coaster born and raised in cali and I'm K9, but it's a vanity call sign.
Speaker A: Over.
Speaker B: All right, cool.
Speaker A: Awesome there. So I have a little bit of LE background as well. 6 years, not too long. I'm a 30 year volunteer fireman here locally w6GRC. Okay.
Speaker B: I talked to another guy recently, like I think yesterday, and he had six years also, but it was up in the state of Washington. You, you're not that guy. Are you canine? King, Adam, David?
Speaker A: No, negative. Nope. I was a local here. W6GRC. So you're up in Shasta County, I heard. So I assume reading somewhere or up higher.
Speaker B: I'm east of Redding in the foothills. I escaped from San Jose, Silicon Valley after 26 years. Leo. I enjoyed every second of it to the end. And not to get political, but the
Speaker A: administration
Speaker B: bogged me down. So I finally retired, which I didn't want to do. But looking back, it was probably the best thing that I ever did. And I had a piece of property up here. I'm in the foothills east of Redding on the way to Lassen Peak, 2200ft elevation overlooking the valley. And I couldn't be happier. There's nowhere on the planet earth that I'd rather live full time. It's that good. Over.
Speaker A: Well, that's awesome. I'm glad that you got escaped The Bay Area. And you're up north, where California begins.
Speaker B: Okay, so you're familiar. Yeah, I bounced back and forth when I was developing my 10 acres from the South Bay Area to up in Shasta County. And you're so right. It begins somewhere north of. Well, at least north of Williams Willows and extends to the southern Oregon. The people are so friendly. I mean, it's not a cliche. They're warm, they're welcoming. They're right thinking, of course, and I'm doing okay with my pension, but I never pulled in a ton of money. But the cost of living is cheaper up here. Just everything's great. Everything's great. It's just. It's like night and day. And fortunately, I do not have to go back anymore to visit family. Most of them fled to other parts. And I just don't have to make that drive into the Bay Area anymore. So, yes, you are correct. I'm up here where California really starts. And I'm loving every second of it.
Speaker A: Over. Well, sounds like you're living a good life. I appreciate you talking to me there. I'm gonna jump back on, keep fixing this node so we can get it up on the mountain next week. So feel free to use this repeater. There's probably about five, six people that talk on it. Few from Tehama County. Now you from Shasta County. But we'll definitely look forward to talking to you again. W6GRC. And my first is Gary. What's yours?
Speaker B: Two things. Maybe three things. My name is Mark.
Speaker A: Mark.
Speaker B: And I don't really know what All Star Note is. I suppose I could look it up. And what was the other thing? Oh, what. What kind of HT are you on? I'm just wondering what kind of power. How many watts you got? I'm on a 50 watt base station. It's a mobile that I just set up in my house. Many more for a vehicle, but I don't want to drill any holes or anything. I'm happy playing radio from inside my house. But what are you transmitting on? Over.
Speaker A: All right, that's an easy one.
Speaker B: I don't know how long ago you
Speaker A: retired, but it's an APX8000. Did you carry one of those? Motorola?
Speaker B: Not sure about the model. Of course we did Motorola since I started the late 80s or the mid to late 80s. And we had a brick MT500, which was our hand pack. And of course, all the cars had Motorolas, but For the entire 26 years, we had Motorola's. But I don't know what, what model it is, but I was referring to what are you speaking on right now to get out so clearly with an ht. You said you're on a hand pack right Over.
Speaker A: So I'm using a portable radio like the one that you carried in law enforcement on your hip. It's a Motorola APX8000 and it's just got a rubber ducky antenna. Earlier today when I was talking into my node, the repeater that's sitting here on the ground that we're going to install up on the mountain, I took the antenna off my portable so that I wouldn't be transmitting into the repeater on the hill. But I was unsuccessful. The repeater on the hill has good ears and it was hearing the portable as well.
Speaker B: Okay, well, I'll let you go with that. I didn't know anybody really used Motorola for ham radio. Although I know it's a possibility. They're just such a high end radio. But good for you. What a good machine. It's just like you're sitting right next to me. Just for your info coming out loud and clear. And with that I will just monitor. Clear the channel. K9 kilo alpha delta.
Speaker A: All right, buddy, have a good night. W6 GRC.

Speaker A: W6 grc. Testing 105. W6grc.
Speaker B: This is k9kad. If you're on your new node, you're coming in loud and clear. Canine kilo alpha delta.

You're connected. 73W6 jersey.
