I like the APRs functions and the programming is kind of. Kind of Jittery, but, you know, once you get it in there, it'll be all right. So it's got three VFOs, and I think I can even transit on some RF if I change or, I'm sorry, HF stuff. If I change the antenna. I haven't checked it out yet, but it was just checking it out, trying to get it all programmed yesterday to my all star notes and stuff. So that's pretty neat. Anything still down? Don't know what's going on with it now. We're gonna have to call the company again in and find out what we're doing wrong. We did everything they said, and now it's tripping even sooner. Speaker B: all right? Of any HT out there right now that I wish I did have, it would be that 950 Pro. Looks like a very interesting HT. So one quick question before I let you go. Are you staying with the. With the factory firmware or are you going over to the next shore? Oh, boy.
Speaker D: Oh, boy. That is a question that I'm gonna have to answer later because right now, the factory firmware, well, you know, I might have to go to next year. I. You know what? I don't know yet. I have to check that out because like I said, the factory firmware is really clunky. Like, you have to, like, save. So you have to go in, like, you put the frequency in, you set the CPCSS and all that, then you save it, and then you gotta go back into VFO mode and then you can change the name of it and then all of that and then save it again, which is really kind of ridiculous. So I might check out to make sure if that is available for the 950 Pro. So I will definitely check it out. Thank you for that. Heads up, Ryan.

Just reviewed my inbox and I see that the Radio Society of Tucson Springham Fest is going to be April 11th and now I realize that's probably going to be a conflict with the Arizona Council the blind annual meeting so I'll have to go early because they open at 7 and the meeting won't start till 9 so I won't be able to stay for the bargains or at least not easily. Nothing really new to report very long but did want to jump in and I hadn't been in here hardly at all in January. In fact I don't think I lose just one day so you know won't gratuitously keep it because there's not too much news. Oh I would just would like to know who makes that 950 pro. That. That would be infant. I never heard of that break KW for you.
Speaker B: Let's see. Let me. Let me look up. The 950 Pro is the Radtel. That's the name I was looking for. I was thinking of TID radio. I knew that wasn't wrong. Yeah the Radtel RT950 Pro and supposedly it transmits 10 meters and higher and. And yeah it seems to have gotten pretty good reviews. The only thing that I see is it's a big HT but it's certainly feature filled.

Speaker C: I hadn't heard anything about it. I'm toying with the idea of getting a wahaksung kg 1000g plus or just 1000 plus. I'm not sure whether this G at the end as well it's a GMRS rig but it's a very nice rig so I thought I might have a nice second GMRS rig to be around here.

Speaker D: Hey, good morning, Brian and everyone on the net. Yeah, we did like Will said, we got about a foot of snow here. They got a little bit more to the south of us and to the east in some cases. We got, I think just under a foot. It was like 11.5 inches or something like that. But yeah, neighbors came and cleared out the driveway yesterday. We got four people in the house and none of us are, for various reasons, in great position to do that right now. So that was. That was good.
Speaker A: Always good to have neighbors that will help out. That's awesome.
Speaker B: Well, you know, 11.5 with a plus one 10.9.
Speaker A: Yeah, just a little wind around the corner can make the difference there on that measurement. Still, that's quite a bit to handle in. In North Carolina for sure. Well, good morning, Patrick. What do you have for the net today?
Speaker D: Well, I shouldn't be here, but because of the snow that we got on Saturday, I am. I was supposed to be going to the dentist today to get a root canal and they called yesterday and they said, yeah, we're not going to be open. And I was like, yeah, I'm totally shocked about that. So they are hoping. I think they've mostly got the streets cleared and stuff, especially in Greensboro where the place is. So they are hoping to be open tomorrow, a little later tomorrow and they're going to start calling people and rescheduling stuff. So I guess I get to figure out when that's going to happen. Hopefully it'll be this week.
Speaker A: Oh, man. Hopefully this root canal, the root of it, ha ha. Is not causing you too much discomfort until that gets done.
Speaker D: It's manageable now, but it certainly was a big, big problem last week right around this time.
Speaker B: For good.
Speaker A: Probably. Yeah. I've had a couple of instances where waiting for that schedule to get in there to have it taken care of and man, there's no way to just, you know, something about tooth pain, it just travels through the whole body.
Speaker D: It's even worse when you have a headache at the same time. Oh man. Well, other than that, I guess tonight will be the all nodes and that. There was a very interesting announcement posted to the All Starlink list yesterday.
Speaker A: Okay, are you going to tease us with that or tell us to tune in this evening?
Speaker D: I might as well put it out there. It's. It's good general information. So basically they are, they are changing their node number assignment policy. So there are lots of node numbers that are not used and they're running out of usable numbers. So they're going to start on April 2nd, they're going to start reclaiming old 4, 5 and 6. Well really 5 and 6 digit node numbers that have been used in 24 months. And on top of that, this one is the more interesting one. So they're going to start randomly assigning between 20,000 and 69,999. But the more interesting thing is if you're on ham VoIP, you might want to think about not being on Ham VoIP in the next few months if you want to start connecting to some new nodes. Because they're going to start assigning node numbers starting with 7, probably in about mid-2026. And ham VoIP is hard coded to use IRLP starting for 7. It used to be that ham VoIP would cross connect with IRLP. IRLP isn't very happy about that and they kind of revoked that status a few years ago. So if you want to connect to some new node numbers and you're running Ham voip. Yeah, you probably don't want to be running Ham voip.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: A little more incentive to do the, to do the upgrade, I imagine that. Does that affect outbound only or will there be an issue resolution receiving node numbers in excess greater than 7 number?
Speaker D: I think it's mostly going to affect both. Yeah, no, I think it's going to be both because of the way it handles the node processing.
Speaker A: That's good to know because that will certainly affect us and, and kind of be the nudge that moves us forward on our system to move over to the ASL. Okay, very interesting. So yeah, HamVoIP is boy. They're either going to have to come up with some update or make some changes, but does not look good for HamVoIP. Users at this point as of. Did you say April 1st?
Speaker D: Well, they're starting the reclaiming process on April 2nd and by probably mid-2026, the sixes will be the. Well, the existing sixes will be. What's the word I'm looking for?
Speaker A: Exhausted.
Speaker B: Yes.
Speaker D: Like, like area codes. So they're going to start assigning numbers with seven, probably at the rate node number assignments are going probably about June or July. So yeah, if you can upgrade before then, I would definitely recommend it. If you're on an older Clear node though, that might be a bit of an issue because Jerry does not Support the Raspberry PI 3 Model B or the 3 Model B Plus or the 3A or the 02W for running anything other than ham VoIP.
Speaker A: Boy, that certainly is going to be possibly affecting a large group of people there. So, yes, indeed, pay attention to this announcement. So April 2, unused note numbers are going to start getting reclaimed if they haven't been used in more than. I think you said, 24 months. And ham VOIP is hard coded and a good time to be considering upgrade to ASL3. I did see someone keying up from Orland W6 GRC repeater. Did we have a comment? All right, no comment. Heard. All right, Patrick.

Speaker A: Boy, that is big news. And I'm sure there are going to be some very unhappy people or some people trying to figure out what to do now. And that's going to be an interesting scenario for Clear Node users. Older Clear Node users, absolutely.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker D: It's really going to be fun to see what. Because a lot of the big systems are still running on Ham VoIP because of some very specific things that they're doing to the telemetry. My system still has some Ham voip stuff on it. So yeah, a bunch of people are going to have to figure something out in the next few months because otherwise, yeah, that's going to start affecting new connections. So, yeah, that's the big announcement from yesterday. I was not quite expecting that. I was kind of figuring they would eventually start reclaiming old node numbers, but didn't know they would go past six.
Speaker A: Very interesting. Also, you know, the, the, the automatic availability of us to assign our own node numbers. Well, it's been a wonderful thing. I imagine that is chewing through a lot of node numbers that probably aren't actually getting used. So yeah, hopefully they kind of look at a big, a big assignment policy. Speaker E: I'm going to stay on this side of the door. I finally got that paddle built so I'm starting to get a feel for it. I need to check its continuity on a couple of cables and just want to get, as I said, get the feeling for a path switch. That and also I kind of want to stay close to my wife. Today it is the anniversary of us meeting in person and that was back in 2020 or 2003. So we have been together now for quite a while. And given that it's that Anna Ryo sink of Groundhogs Day and my wife kind of going together. So I want to curl up with her, settle in with her on the couch and watch Groundhog stay together and celebrate quite a few years together.
Speaker B: Well, that's an awesome thing. So what got you out? What? What should I. I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't ask this. If it's not suitable for work, let me know. But were you out observing to see if Phil saw his shadow and you looked past the shadow and your eyes met?
Speaker E: No, we actually, for those of you who might remember irc, we were in the same IRC channel together and we just kind of started talking and meeting or, you know, talking with each other a lot in the channel and kind of started to touch base privately and we said, well, maybe we should meet in person and see if some of this energy is going to exist in real life. And it did, and it still does.
Speaker B: Well, it doesn't sound like there's going to be any six more weeks of winter at your house.
Speaker E: No, absolutely not. It's been an absolutely happy. I guess she'd do the math. 24 years, so looking forward to 24 and more with her Mike. Play some of those ukuleles. Given it's National Ukulele Day, I will actually admit to owning ukuleles.

Don't get into all particulars, but it was with an online situation and that's where my now wife and I met. So it's an equivalent period of time. Speaker E: I do not know it, but I had a feeling it was not Hawaii origin.
Speaker B: Yeah, I was going to look it up here quickly. I was just reading through this morning. I thought you would help me out here. I'll look it up again. I think it was definitely from Europe. Let me look it up here.
Speaker E: Oh, my guess would be Spain or Portugal then.

Speaker A: Let's see it. Actually, Madeira. So speck of land in the Atlantic, southwest of Portugal. So pretty darn close to Portugal, maybe because. Well, I was going to say maybe Madeira doesn't have many trees and so they made small guitars. But no, it says here that Madera actually was a heavily forested land. So maybe they just like traveling light,
Speaker B: Which makes perfect sense. I know a lot of people like it for that. Now, my frustration with a lot of people picking up the ukulele is, if you will, the lack of attention paid to it. Well, it's only got four strings, so it's going to be easier than a guitar, and I don't really have to work at it. And then again, you see the ukulele, the people who really know how to and how to play a ukulele and are willing to put the time into it. And to me, it just feels like a fundamental disrespect for the instrument. Yeah.
Speaker A: Kind of like the kazoo. No, it was quite interesting, you know, to see over the past 15 plus years of how ukulele entered into the country music scene.
Speaker B: That does make sense. My goal would be to use ukulele on a heavy metal song since three of my UKes have pickups and it sounds quite interesting if I run it
Speaker A: through the big muff fuzz filter. Yeah, but you know, when you're out there smashing something on stage, it just doesn't have the same impact.
Speaker B: In this case, quite literally.

The weather is. And I might have some good news for you, Daniel, because there's some indication that after this week there may be a major pattern shift. And what that involves. You know, there's been high pressure all over the western United Or. Yeah, western United States for the past almost months. Let me take a break. And off the east coast, and that's what's opened the door for the Arctic air, you know, to continuously batter the south and part of the East. And the Carolinas just got. Just got. Just inundated with snow. It's amazing. Places that don't normally even get snow
Speaker A: had
Speaker C: 8, 10 inches close to a foot like Patrick and you know, it's just. And then there was other places in the Carolinas that were under what they call a dry slot and they didn't get any. So that's the deal. And yeah, a lot of the Midwest today is under cloudy skies. Could be some flurries, could be there's another clipper system coming through much of the Midwest. Could even affect you guys later today and tonight and another one Thursday and Friday. But we to see what's happening. And that's because high pressure continues to be the dominant feature over the West. And as long as there's high pressure over the west, that continues the active, colder weather over the Midwest, east, east and South. So there's. They're connected. But what we think is going to happen along about the 8th, which would I think would be next Sunday. Yeah, that's Super Bowl. Let me take a break. The pattern could under. And a lot of the offices are even are starting to talk about this and the models are starting to show that there could be a pattern shift. So basically, high and low pressure positions change. The low deepens off the west coast from the eastern Pacific and high pressure builds in over the Eastern Sea and middle United States, blocking the arctic flow from coming down. And it could warm up. And what that would mean for some of us is that we become warmer and wetter Especially in the mid south we start getting like wood like spring where we get the severe weather, thunderstorms and that could even affect you but it will get warmer and there would be periods of nice weather. But there's also that price to pay that it could get wet from rain and maybe start doing some thunderstorms like early spring. So we'll see how that works out. We're warmer here this morning but looking at California there's going to be more fog in the San Joaquin Valley, Brian, where it isn't foggy it's going to be nice and clear and that will last all the way through at least. And then maybe Sunday things start to change to where a low pressure drops down into California and the western United States bringing it would be what we call a long wave trough and that's where that pattern shift would take place starting and could last through the end of February. You need rain and you need some snow out there or you guys are going to be for drought. It seems like every new year that there's a. When we're in a La Nina situation California shuts down its rain and snowfall and you're in that pattern right now. Back to you there Brian. WB6BJ
Speaker A: well I'll tell you if this is the pattern that I could stay in I would take it every day of the week. Blue skies, the sunshine is out. I know it's not going to last but. Yeah, I don't know if you were earlier observation but he's already started trimming and I was just noticing out by my truck this weekend I just over the side. Brayton's observation is we sure don't have much snow in the mountains yet.
Speaker C: Brian. I'm beginning to wonder it's not all that microphone. If you've changed microphones you're having almost the same problem with your audio. I don't know if you went back to the original microphone but it's, it's, there's still some break it up in your audio there. Go ahead.
Speaker B: I think somebody was doubling with him that time.
Speaker A: Alrighty. Yeah, I, I'm wondering because I noticed somebody was doubling with me last time somebody reported a. So okay, you know I am on the boom microphone, the, the, the condenser headset, boom microphone. And I'm running low power, maybe I need to bump it up so nobody stands a chance.
Speaker C: Yeah, I don't know if it's happening on my signal. I'm running 50 milliwatts through a note so I don't know but that's Just, it's. It's weird. But that took. When you upped your power, that helped.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. I'm running 20 watts right now, so that should get over about anybody who wants to get into this. Into the voter. Anyway, back over to you there. See, my comment was, you know, the. That we're having right now is so enjoyable. Stay this way. But, yeah, going into summer months, we're already starting the need to trim our grass, the weeds, and we just don't have any snow up in the mountains.
Speaker C: Well, we're in a La Nina pattern and, and La Nina patterns do this. Even though it was a weak one. I was, I was concerned that after New Year's that. It seems like I can. I can almost bet that after New Year's, after we. We had a wet fall and then all the way in, and after New Year's, boom, it got dry. Here we are. And I've seen this happen time and time again. Even when I lived in California, it was like that. And the same thing kind of happened this year, but hopefully next week things will change. I'm hoping that it does. Wet here. We only had 1.56 inches of rain in the month of January, and 1.56 inches of rain for Clarksville, Tennessee, in January is way below normal. We had more Snow. We had 2 inches. We had 3 inches of snow and 2 inches of sleet, but only 1.56 inches of rain. So I'm hoping for more rain here in February and less cold weather. I could use some warmer weather, and I think Daniel could, too. Maybe we'll bring him some good enough weather that he can maybe get on the ride or go do a park on the air in February.
Speaker B: Go ahead.
Speaker A: Well, what are we. What are we going to be expecting here out of the. I'm trying to remember. I don't think they got a nor'. Easter. I know they got quite a weather pattern that moved in off the Atlantic to the eastern states. So what's. What's going to happen with that? Is that moving back to the. Back to the east or what's those. I know it hit a lot of places pretty darn hard. Don't know if it made it in as far as you.
Speaker C: No, that storm basically hit the Carolinas. Okay. It really didn't even hit the east coast too hard. This particular system. The people that really got hit were, believe it or not, the Carolinas and all the way to Florida. Florida didn't get any spot and they didn't get much precip, but they got some really cold temperatures, but a lot of the eastern seaboard itself, it didn't really come up the coast. It kind of went offshore. They might have gotten a little bit in New York and parts of New Jersey, but the precip was real thin. The big stuff really hit the Carolinas. And then I think it's, it's really gone offshore. It's not snowing anymore, but it's very cold. It's colder in the south, in the extreme southeastern part of the United States than it is here. We're above freezing right now and I got a trace of snow on Saturday and that was it. But temperatures were in the teens. We've had some, but we've got enough of our problems still here. Over 100 people have died in the mid south from storm related cold related stuff. And the schools have been out here for a week because there's been snow and ice and we still have snow and ice on the ground. But hopefully today it's supposed to get up to 45 and start some melting here. But our driveway is clear and that's good there. Go ahead.
Speaker A: All right, I see where a warning is out for South Florida for falling iguanas. You know that it's cold down there. Collection centers are opened up. I saw a great TV thing last night that down in Palm Beach.

Speaker D: Yeah, well, very good you weren't able to join us for the Fox Hunt on Saturday, but great to see you at the breakfast. And what did you do this past weekend?
Speaker A: Yeah, sorry about the lack of Fox Hut, but we had my kids were in town down in Lincoln so I breakfast up here and then gathered my stuff and headed on down to Lincoln. Hung out with them for the day, had a great dinner and Yeah, a cool weekend with the family. Let's see, yesterday was yard work. You mentioned weeds and stuff. Already got the weed eater out the string line thing and gingerly mowed around the daffodils that are coming up. I don't think I necked too many of them, but here. Yeah, it's getting thick up there up by the sidewalk. And so between that and some other pruning, filled my one trash can, one a week is all we ask. And got that taken care of along with other chores around the house. And I had dinner with a previous neighbor who moved back into the. Not this neighborhood, but the one adjacent has entered with them. And she mentioned that she likes to go to a restaurant up in Mina Vista. The Tin Lamp, she called it. She seems to really like that. So at some point we'll head up there for dinner. Anyway, today is. There's plenty of stuff around the shack. Updated the firmware on the meter that I've got the Zoe whatever it is, the 703. So that's now working really better. And what else? Oh, and then of course we have the V session tonight. Looking forward to a burger. So on with that T gage.

Speaker D: Yeah, I think I have a little ground loop going on now. I did a quick, quick rewire. Well, very good. Yeah, Tin Lantern. Great, great restaurant here in town. A restaurant that just really hadn't made it. They had been through probably four different. Five different owners since we've lived here in the last 13 years. And I think they finally got the menu right and kind of fits the community. It's the people that own that also own that sports bar that opened up down at the old Sizzler.
Speaker A: What is that one? McGee's Maguires. McSomethings. Yeah, I haven't tried that one at all, but okay. Well, it sounds like it's worth going up to Commander IPS some point, but yeah, we have plenty of restaurants down here. And I told her about the. What is it, Roosters we're going to tonight. So at some point I gotta actually eat here. I've got food in the fridge that could just get up and walk away if I don't eat it pretty soon. So anyway, I haven't made any progress on the nasty power supply that's on the bench splayed open and. Oh, geez, I guess we'll start working on that again. Anyway, boat grounding. Questions? I Have outstanding that I'm trying to get answered in terms of what to do. What's there right now is fine, just that they need to do an upgrade and there's interactions between the elci, the boat level ground fault interrupter and inverters. If you put an inverter in the system, they tend to fight with each other in terms of grounding and that's not good in terms of safety. So doing some research on that. Anyway, on with the week today. Speaker B: Yeah. Good morning Brian and Everybody. This is WA6E. Yeah, I walked in just a little bit ago and you were kind of breaking up, but looking at it, you were full squash on the mountaintop receiver RF wasn't an issue. It sounded to me like if you were mobile, I would have said you were going over bumps. It's sounded like a disruption of the audio path somehow like a loose plug or something like that that needed to be reseated. I sent you a little audio. Did you listen to it?
Speaker D: No, unfortunately. Too many things in motion this morning. But I'll definitely listen to it after the net. But yeah, very odd. Everything is very stable, you know, from the microphone that hangs in front of my face to every wire going into the radio. So I guess that's why it's called amateur radio. Amateur hour. Good morning. What did you and Theta do this weekend? Anything fun?
Speaker B: Well, yeah, it is called amateur radio because none of us are professionals. Just maybe with a few exceptions. And no, you're sounding fine now you. I guess wiggling your plugs was all it took and everybody knows that that happens. Oh, and let's see. This morning, Paksutawney fail shadow or didn't or whatever. Six months more of winter. So it doesn't really affect us. This weekend we went down to the Sacramento home and Landscape show at Cal Expo. We have over the years done everything we needed to do do to our house. You know, we don't need to upgrade our kitchen again or put on new patio covers or new hardwood floors and stuff, but we thought we'd go anyway. And we went down there, walked through all the. All the distributions and the contractors and so forth. And I told that this would probably be the last time we go to this. We simply didn't need anything. Was it that was there. But it was well attended. So I was glad to see that there is some economic life in the Sacramento Valley
Speaker D: or people booking time there because they need to bring some more business in. I had a couple friends who were displaying down there. One that does window upgrades and restorations, et cetera, and another one who does. Does the exterior siding and remod like that. And I know one of them, the window guy has looked pretty hard for business.
Speaker B: Oh, well, maybe it's not as flourishing as I thought. Maybe this show will increase his trade a little bit. But when you don't need new windows, you don't need new windows. And that's kind of the bottom line. Other than that, we're slowly, and I emphasize slowly taking stuff out of the motorhome. Golly, we accumulated a lot of stuff in there. You know, you pull off somewhere along the road and they're selling T shirts. So of course you have to buy one and you have to have two. One to keep in the motorhome, one to keep in the house. And you know, it's just amazing the amount of stuff that we've accumulated. And it's kind of a sad task. Either one of us are ripping into it, but we're slowly but surely getting her done. As Larry the cable guy says. We'll see you tonight. We enjoy Brewsters and looks like you got four or five candidates. Boy, you're generating. You're generating new hams by the dozens. That's great.
Speaker D: Yep. And we have some radios to give away. Scott YNE had given us a bunch of radios to give out. So this evening we'll be to the new licensees as soon as they get a award of their license. We have a few HT's to give away, so that's always kind of cool as well. What a great way to celebrate. One of my favorite things in the entire hobby is being involved with the amateur radio exams. And just so much positive energy happens at those events. Well, look forward to seeing you for dinner and then maybe over. Well, not maybe. We'll see you over at the. At the VE session as well. And we really appreciate you and theta being involved. Think of how much better fuel mileage you would have gotten had you not been hauling all this extra stuff around for this many years. Speaker B: That brought some laughter here. I'm not sure if I'm laughing at you or with you, because I think there is some truth in that. When I drive up through Oregon, whether it's on 101 or 5, they have the commercial scales, everybody, they pull the trucks over and weigh them, and when
Speaker A: they're not open, they keep the scale on.
Speaker B: And it has a digital readout you can see from the driver's position. So every time we go up there, there's one or two of them we drive through every time we make a note. And over the years, we've had this motorhome 19 years, you can see this trend just slowly drifting up a little bit at a time that slopes from the lower left to the upper right as the weight goes up and up and up. So what you're saying is very true, and I guess this is one way to force us to get rid of some of the weight. But, yeah, we might have saved some gasoline, some diesel fuel. Who knows? Speaker D: It always amazes me that between your house and mine that we have a simplex path. You know, there are so many mounds of granite between you and I, and I'm down in a basin up here in the foothills. It never ceases to amaze me. I can always hear you when you're on simplex as well. Some audio artifacts when I have multiple radios hooked up at the same time. And I just took that out of line and I may have a bad jumper there.
