Speaker A: No less snow than normal was the observation and especially the moisture content has kind of been down. I know you go snow wheeling so prove us wrong.
Speaker D: Well yeah, I think I need to go up there and get a visual. You know, taste it, smell it, eat it.
Speaker A: I know you really enjoy the snow wheeling. No, as of a few weeks ago people were still making it up to Canada Hill with four wheel. So you know, if the gates are open and people are making up that high that seems, you know, not as much snow as there have been in past years. Usually what the last, last time you can make it up there is maybe early December.
Speaker D: You know it's always a little different of course but
Speaker A: gosh, there's still a
Speaker D: lot of snow up there and I think I may have been in that group that we made it to the road that you, you do your camping on there. So technically we weren't at the top of Canada Hill but maybe today we could do that, get over Canada Hill and possibly get into Robinson Flat. But yeah, you know, you're right there. Two big storms dumped a lot of snow and we haven't seen any since that, since that time. So yeah, I might see some more but the forecast looks pretty bleak anyway. Speaker A: well, you know, I can partially take the blame I think for the lack of snowfall because I just decided to keep the snowmobile one more year. So it's all my fault. Well, it's another early work day and trying to avoid the first in and last out phenomenon and be the first in and very first out before anybody else even thinks about it. Got things to work on and because we're going to try to do a little bit more longer distance travel than we have been the last couple of years, we're to going, going to be on airplanes. So I broke down about another Radio Apache case and I have a backpack coming. For everything else I'm going to carry on the ultralight and very portable system. I still have the rack mount case for the 710 but this will be 891 and it'll be light and easy to put on a plane and carry even with a couple of 7amp power batteries. So got it all planned out, all the stuff coming and have it together just waiting for the airline tickets to show up.
Speaker A: Okay, maybe, maybe you've already researched this but make sure that your batteries are within the range allowed on aircraft. So something tells me that 7amp hour might be a little high. I was thinking that the rating on batteries needed to be lower than that. So please tell me you've done a little research on that.
Speaker F: Of course I have, yeah, it's seven and a half hours is under the limit. They consider the seven amp hours times
Speaker A: 12 volts for the battery and it
Speaker F: also has an amp hour rating. It's actually I think 96 with the 12.8 nominal voltage. I can't do that one in my head right at the moment but anyway it's under the limit.
Speaker A: Two per person.
Speaker F: We'll probably carry one each but it has to be in the airplane, not in the baggage.
Speaker A: Checked baggage.
Speaker F: I guess that way if they start heating up and smoking all by themselves they can open the door and throw it outside. I don't know.
Speaker A: Yeah, probably a lot easier to get to the the backpack at your feet rather than sending somebody down to go through the cargo. All right, well Ron, good research there. Speaker E: Well we got about 20 degrees or a little, maybe a little more. But we're in Ohio. Yep. Up northeast Ohio by Cleveland between Cleveland east of Cleveland Akron line. But you know a lot of phone calls that we get here, I just hang up on them all. If they're not something I know I just hang up on them and I had to dial back the number. That number's not a working number. So I just hang up on them all. Everyone comes in and gets hung up and I call them back and if they answer and they answer truthfully they'll answer if they're not, you know because our oil well, our oil guy last week called, he was delivering oil because he didn't know we had a different company do it. He didn't know where the tank was but he delivered and he got in there and got delivered. Yep. We never ran out of oil, it was way low. But everything else is going good here. So yeah, last night I was going to. I was wanting to listen to the net, the node net and I had it on. I was laying there a little before 9 and 9 o' clock came and well, somewhere in there I sort of fell asleep and woke up an hour later and they were just finishing. But I did find out about exactly what the numbering system at 7 is. They are wanting to start a digit number 7 for the all Star so they can, you know because All Star don't recognize the seven in the present hardware software they want to have it. Recognize it or numbers. Yeah just like the phone company did. You know when they started having us dial 10 digits, you know we got dial 10 digits here even we're just dialing across the street, you know. But you know the phone numbers used area codes used to be ones and zeros I think and nothing else. But now they're all the numbers in that middle digit lot. And here you go same thing with the prefix was something and they just made all the numbers be available for all My think is how they did it, how they gained more numbers. But yeah Other than that not much else here happening. Just cooked some dishes and scalded them because they were bad so and I'm going to go do some bill payment and some other stuff here so and I got empty the phone out. The phone is so I did get a hard drive so two terabyte drive. So I'll hook that up and we'll empty that out. So let's send it back to the net case fqv

Speaker C: The previous spacecraft did not have a toilet, so this spacecraft has a toilet. So the first commode in orbit around

So yeah, so anyway, the first toilet to the moon. I thought that was a rather interesting thing. Of all the firsts, the launch has been delayed. They're having some trouble with refueling valves. They're not closing or they're not opening or they're not doing whatever it's supposed to be doing. And so they issued a report this morning that they may be delaying the launch by as much as a month. I'm not quite sure just yet, but I'm not following it that closely, but

Speaker B: Ah, so because at home you have the outhouse, the bike, trip around the neighborhood. That's interesting that. Number one. Yes, churches are quite often open, but to have them leave the bathrooms open. Maybe some warm water in there as well.
Speaker A: Yes, it was pretty well equipped. I mean, that's of course my other alternative. Except that I would have been tempted to sit and play video games or pool. Well, not video games, slot machines or pool. Or even get rovetune. To play cribbage with the old farmers was to go to the local bar.
Speaker B: One of them. And hence you started drinking before noon.
Speaker A: No, mine was an afternoon route anyway. But and the funny part there is Iowa was a dry state at that time.
Speaker B: I guess somebody forgot to tell the farmers, huh? Yes, indeed. It reminds me of a story of a friend of mine in the film and video production industry who was driving across Texas. It was a hot day, he didn't have air conditioning, his windows were down, and of course he was keeping cool by drinking beverages. And he was pulled over by the Texas, whatever they call them, state police. And he said, boy, didn't you know this was a dry country? And my friend said he probably should not have replied, sir, I hope it rains soon.
Speaker A: Probably not, but that doesn't fit at all in at all with what I heard about Texas law. Open containers are not illegal in Texas. In fact, they're mandatory.
Speaker B: Well, maybe this was a county guy, I don't know. But evidently where he was at, open containers were not allowed. And his father proceeded to send him some money to get him out the next morning.
Speaker A: Yeah, that'll teach people that don't know any better. Yeah, the other thing is, like I say, Iowa was a dry state. They could sell beer or wine. Mixed drinks, never. And if you wanted hard alcohol, you had to go to the state liquor store and buy it. And it wasn't as nice as Utah was, at least back in the 80s and 90s. Yeah, you had to go to the state liquor store, but they were open 24 hours a day.
Speaker B: Yep. There are some weird laws regarding consumption of alcohol. I remember, you know, blue laws down south where, you know, before noon you don't buy alcohol on Sunday morning, but you could drive through and pick up a mixed drink down in Lauderdale. Drive through mixed drinks at the window, Ray, you have a wonderful day. And yeah, I would have stopped and used the church bathroom as well.

That means you couldn't carry a alcoholic beverage from one table to another in a bar. You had to have the employee do it. And I guess they finally dropped that one. We've gone up to Tahoe and activated and he did an activation with me and Donner passed and I've been, you know, trying to Elmer him along and now, now we can get him on the air with his 891. I know he's got an end for Fed up there in Camino Placerville and I'm really happy for him. I know he worked hard at it, so. Right on. Congrats to him. And oh, my other question was Dan brought up a 950. Man, Yaesu's turning into Baofeng. They got new radio every week. What can you tell me about. Not that I'm a Yaesu guy, it's probably some touch screen, you know, unobtainium radio for the blind, but what, what is the 950 Pro and. Or the 950 what's. What's the what's the skinny on that radio and the price point?
Speaker A: No, the radio that, that Dan was talking about is the Rad Tel RadTel 950 Pro. And actually I believe it's going to be quite accessible, quite accessible for. Because I know the Radtel 800 or 880 is quite accessible and so this radio is just a continuation of that. It allows transmit on 10 meters and above. HT form factor kind of on the larger side, but it's certainly one that has my interest. It can scan, you can listen much lower in frequency, I think down to 40 meters, but you can only transmit 10 meters and above. It's a fascinating little HD radio and quite the good price point. And Radtel seems to be making a real impact in HTs.
Speaker B: Okay, all right. For some reason I thought you said yaesu and I, I googled or I did a search. I guess There is a Yaesu 950 because one came up. My mistake. Now I've got Jimmy looking for a radio that doesn't exist. All right, Yeah, I don't need another HT, man. I've got HT's brand new in the box. I've never even opened an FT60, a pair of those Baofeng minis. Yeah, no more HTs for this kid. All right, Brian, I'll let you get someone else. And thanks for taking my check in. Speaker A: well, you know, when the bands are tough because of these solar flares during the day, you know, I know you have a setup at home. I would just encourage you to get on the bands after dark while the noise level can be quite high and weird ionospheric conditions are happening like right now, we're under almost an M2 event right now but nighttime there can be some very interesting openings happening so keep an eye on that on the dark part of the day. K60CL here and I'm staring at a new Radtel for me model RT 1313 ones but 400 and 480 MHz and it is about the smallest thing I've ever seen. I don't have a ruler with me but because if I did I'd tell you how how long it is but it looks like about 3 inches without a half an inch antenna. It's a FPRESS radio meant for usage in small areas like small hotels, things like that movie theaters. If they're still in existence they just wiped out ours and Sonora. No more movie theaters. And so I was asked by Rattail if I didn't mention it. It's a Rattail radio. I was asked by Rattail if I would test it out and believe it or not they must have heard me on the coffee break map so I'm going to be putting it through its works. I've already started some of it in regular testing equipment and not much to do with it. You can go through the channels and you can press the it's got a button on the front of the face of it for the X for keying it up and the mic is on the front and where I put my right handed so where I put it my finger it covers up the mic. I don't know. I don't know. But anyway charging is on the top next to the antenna and it is a USB C so that's about it. That's what I'm doing. I put my car back together again from cleaning it out and Then goes back in and connections and antennas and stuff like that. I just decided to redo the whole thing. So that's what I've been doing. Speaker A: Yeah, I looked up the Radtel RT13. I have a couple of questions on it. Of course you know I do have my FRS license or my GMRS license but I don't know I have I used it yet I'm not sure. So I would be interested in it if they are providing programming software so we can put this over to amateur radio frequency. So that's my first question. Is there availability of programming software from Radtel? Number two, does the earpiece come with it? And number three I'm scared because it has vox feature. We could hear some interesting conversations. Just wondering how easy it is to defeat the vox. Oh and very cool thing it is USB type C charging. So gotta love that as that's coming out on more and more radios. So any input on on a couple of those items.
Speaker C: That's what I get for not reading the manual. I have it right here. I didn't know it had box. I thought I probably got in trouble already. So I imagine it's pretty much you can turn it off. It has a couple of functions but not too. My brain was over abused yesterday so I forgot the second one which I did have an answer for which was A and anyway yeah so USBC works wonderfully in charging charges quickly and tell me what your second question was because that was A important and B I had a positive answer.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was asking if they provided a programming software because I see it comes programmed with 22 channels of FRS and so I was wondering about software or a way to program it for amateur radio frequencies and you know honestly you're not getting a lot of radio for the price. I'm not impressed with the price for the what you're getting but you may see it differently.
Speaker C: Well you're I, I. That's the first thing I thought of. So of course I didn't pay that but so it didn't bother me at all. But you're right, I don't know why they charged that much. I'm gonna have to ask them. Price point does seem a little bit high and as far as the spot for is concern I know they have software but I'm not sure they have software for this radio so I'll have to find that out. I've written it down so I can ask them stating that it's an important question and I'm not so sure how that you could change it to amateur band. And even though it's riding and they have the frequency right on it. Yeah. So it's 400 through 480. So one would think one could put it in the ambient radio section. Boy, my finger gets weak.
Speaker A: Well, absolutely. I've gotten some radios from factories before when I was selling Bluetooth devices and one of the ones that I have is a Dick Tracy watch. It's actually a small digital watch that's no bigger than. It's smaller than most digital watches that you see on the market right now. And it's a 1 watt UHF radio that was designed for FRS. But the factory gave me programming software so I could put any amateur radio frequency in the 400 meg 440 band. So that's why I was asking.
Speaker B: So I would
Speaker A: ask them if they can provide you don't ask about the availability, just ask them can you provide me programming software for this? So you know, because I'm an amateur radio operator. See what their reply is.

Speaker A: RT 13. Yes. The price point is not that great. Nice little form factor. I love that it's USB C chargeable and I think this is just one more. One more radio. And so I'm sitting here trying to figure out, you know, how I'm going to grab the microphone while I'm also got my hands dealing with her because well, of course she's a basset, so she's a handful.
Speaker A: Then you have the cat and then you have the wife and then you. Well, I'm glad we could lessen the load for you this morning and get you back into sequence here. Good morning. What do you have for us this morning, Daniel?
Speaker C: Well, I'm curious. Feed the birds. Does that come out of the Mary Poppins song or is there another motivation for it?
Speaker A: You know, I've seen Mary Poppins, but not enough to quote lyrics. Fill me in here.
Speaker C: It's a song that she sings to the children as they're trying to. As they're going to sleep. You know, it's basically a go to sleep kind of song. And it's just feed the birds. And that's the core line there, that. The cadence of it with the whole feed the birds stay. I was just wondering if the two were related.
Speaker A: Not that I'm aware of. Let's see. Reading the little asterisk at the bottom of the feed the birds day.
Speaker B: Oh.

Speaker A: Exactly. Well, you know, we used to have a cat growing up. We had a cat whose favorite place would be inside the window watching the bird feeder. And it was an indoor outdoor cat. And that cat definitely knew where to hang out. It would crouch and wait for a bird to drop down off of that feeder to start bringing stuff off the ground. And I just won't describe what happened next.
Speaker C: Oh, I very much understand it. Our cats are indoor, but it's always fun to watch them when they get to a window sill and are just fascinated. It's either birds or squirrels.
Speaker A: Yeah, we had a. We had a cat who specialized in rewarding us a squirrel once in a while. I never saw it happen, but the squirrel, I don't think typically won, but that kind of surprised me. Only one cat that I've ever owned that was a squirrel hunter.
Speaker C: Maeve's predecessor was not much of a hunter at all. He continually chided her that she was very definitely not earning her keep. But Maeve has caught several mice, and one time she caught the mouse and was sitting there waiting for me to come down to drum, and she's just sitting there by the drums, sitting next to the mice, looking up at me going, I got it. I got it. And I know she hadn't killed the mouse near there.
Speaker A: Yeah. Then you have the sadistic cats, the ones that just kind of knock them silly and kind of give them mouth to mouth and a little bit of resuscitation, a little bit of rest, and so they can have round two, three, four. Yeah, We've all owned the sadistic cats as well, I'm sure.
Speaker C: I don't think Mamie's predecessor was sadistic. She would do that. I think it was just incompetent. I caught it. What do I do with it now?
Speaker A: Can I trade this for some liquors, please? I don't know. We haven't owned a cat for a number of years, and I'm kind of seeing these ads Pop up all over the place for the Lickables. So have you gotten these little. They kind of look like Otter Pops for cats?
Speaker C: Oh, we've got. We've used one. Churro is the brand name. Absolutely loves it.
Speaker A: I don't know if they were starving these cats before they filmed the advertisements, but. But, man, they were going crazy over these Lickables, so. Okay, I will take your word for it that the cats love them and they're not just starving.
Speaker C: I know our current floor weasel is definitely not starving, but my wife will call out to her name the brand, and Maeve will come running.
Speaker A: Let's see what else.
Speaker C: American Painters Day. My favorite would be Grant Wood, actually.
Speaker A: Okay, fill me in on who Grant Wood is and what style or what is this? Tell us more.
Speaker C: He was an Iowa painter. The most famous painting everybody has seen, either it or a variant of it, is American Gothic.
Speaker A: Okay, Absolutely have seen that, but I did not. Did not know who Grant Wood was. Okay, very good. So how did you run across Grant Wood? And, yeah, I'm looking him up feverishly here, so I can see if I'm familiar with other works he's done.
Speaker C: My first exposure was a parody of American Gothic, which I think more of us have seen the parodies than we have the original. But then I had to take an art appreciation class as part of my gen ed in college, and we went on a field trip down to the Art Institute in Chicago. So I've gotten to see the original.
Speaker A: Well, very good. Yeah, it was funny. We actually had some neighbors growing up that looked like that couple.
Speaker C: I think that is a characteristic of Lutheran or Methodist farmers where it's a requirement that they have to look like that.
Speaker A: Yeah, I've always looked at their clothes and just wondered if that was their daily dress or they grabbed the pitchfork and. And just had arrived home from church. I somehow think that based on the description that this was probably their modest work clothing.
Speaker C: Well, it was his sister and a neighbor that he actually painted in there. It wasn't the people who owned the house at the time.
Speaker A: You know, a lot more information than I do. Of course, I've reposed this several times. You know, as you know, I've. I was into film and video production for a number of years, and I have put people into these poses with things other than pitchforks through the years. So, yes, we've all kind of parodied this one.
Speaker C: It's one of those paintings that I think just will live on and on. And again, I think the parodies are in the end far more popular than the original but it says something about the original that is able to inspire parody.
Speaker A: In fact, I remember I think MAD magazine had a love affair with American Gothic. I remember several takeoffs through the years.
Speaker C: Oh yeah, MAD magazine, absolutely. I think my first parody was a board game that I got from Steve Jackson games when I was in high school and the COVID of the game was a parody of and then National Carrot Cake Day. I know you're a fan of it. For me eating it when my wife doesn't make make it as problematic since people like to put walnuts in it and actually I had asked if there were walnuts in the carrot cake at one restaurant. They said no, no, we don't put it in. There's no walnuts in there. And I get it and I start to consume it and get about halfway through it and I realize oh no, there's walnuts in there.
Speaker A: Oh no. You know I have to be very careful about my walnut consumption. Something that about the oil if I have too many of them I will definitely My gums start getting sore and and yeah it some reaction though it sounds like yours is much more serious than that. I'm going to put a quick shout out somebody who has just come back come on frequency in the last five minutes you are beaconing aprs on the repeater. So I don't know if anybody out there is monitoring who has apron aprs turned on but you are beaconing aprs through the repeater. Back over to you Daniel.
Speaker C: All good. And I should probably start to wind up. Hope it's a good radio day. I think that a lot of the reasons the bands are dead is because people look at it and go well I'm not even going to try and you just got to remind people look the bands will always have some activity if you just call CQ so job search in the morning finish building the paddle in the and I get it getting it hooked up had an issue with V band that got sorted out. I have a I. I know that I am old school because I get a Macintosh and the first thing I install on it is carabiner so that I can get my alt and my control keys where my fingers expect them to be.
Speaker A: My oh my. You know I'm sure Mr. Apple is rolling in his grave right now. Yeah. No, you know the thing about these events, these solar events. Yes, we are in a very intense solar event right now. Just looked and we are now an M2 event and it's expected to be climbing and we may Actually have a very significant event coming up here, they say. But you know, it's all about band choice. You know, maybe you're not going to be working DX on 10 meters during the middle of the day or you might get that weird flutter opening throughout the day. But yet it's all about band choice and time of day. You know, a lot of people will just put the radio away and because it doesn't fit there, you know. Well, I operate, you know, 15 meters only. And speaking of bands, I'm noticing that there's a good opening on 10 meters to Europe right now. It looks like 10 and 17 are open and 20 is getting some decent coverage as well. So, you know, I think it's always worth a shot getting on there, calling CQ and doing what you can. Speaker A: You know, and you've heard me preach this before and I'm going to say it again. I think band scopes, waterfalls, the best thing. So when you're spinning vfo, you know, you're spinning in the direction of activity. But I also think that the spectrum displays and waterfalls are one of the worst things ever in our hobby because people are looking for others to transmit instead of calling cq. And it's kind of hard to hear or see people on your scope if they're not transmitting. Everybody's just waiting on somebody else to talk first. And Mesh core is kind of the next generation of mesh which has ability to manage larger geographic areas and more data. It is based on a repeater system rather than a peer to peer. It can be operated in a peer to peer mode, but the repeater system allows you to kind of direct your traffic and it just is more like what we are used to as ham radio operators to be working, you know, primarily through a repeater or to go over to Simplex for peer to peer. Speaker A: Okay, so. But as we move to additional numbers, increasing number of numerical values. Is this going to. I mean this addressed the use of 7 but as more node numbers are required, is this going to require some reworking of Hamvoip?
Speaker D: Probably eventually, but it's not the dire omg it's going to break tomorrow's situation that we thought it was going to be.
Speaker A: Okay, that is great news and I'm glad to hear that clearnote is on top of it. That would have been, that would have been a game, let's just say difficult situation. Thanks for checking in this morning and I appreciate you bringing us the news so everybody could kind of be aware of it. 10,000 foot level view of last night's all nodes net.

Speaker D: it wasn't my net so I was kind of answering questions as they came in. Let's see, Don WA2IWC came in with an interesting question. I set up a radio node for him a couple months ago and it's using USB Radio to inject and decode the PL tone instead of the. Instead of doing it from the radio side. And we did it that way because we wanted to use reverse burst to stop squelch crashes from happening. So there were some questions about that. He had a couple of radios that wouldn't decode, so he went into USB radio, the tune CLI for it turned up the PL deviation and that broke some other.
Speaker A: We were trying to figure out what
Speaker D: was going on there. There were some questions about the clear node and the new node thing, which it turns out right now is a non issue, fortunately. And let's see, there were various observations. The extended nodes are doing very, very well. I did not hear any packet loss whatsoever last night. It was smooth as butter. And so there were some comments about that. There were a few other things that came up as well. So overall it was a good net.
Speaker A: All right. And I know you were kind of monitoring. We don't know how many people were listening, but how many nodes were connected. Because I know that we used to have problems once we, you know, neared the 70 or 80 nodes. We would start really, you know, having packet loss even with the virtual nodes connected. But do you have any idea of how many nodes were connected in last evening? The highest number I saw was 90.
Speaker D: There may have been more at some point, But I saw 96 at one point and it was fantastic.
Speaker A: All right, that's some good results there. Well, excellent. Well, good morning to you, Patrick. I know I steered you through down a path of reporting on something that you weren't net control on, but anything else for the net today?
Speaker D: Not really. Just kind of hoping. I get a call from the dentist office today. Kind of not sure that's going to happen, but would like to get this done sooner rather than later. Don't get your work on your extra but want to say that one of the goodest, one of the goodest radios I think out there is the new ICOM 7300 Mark II. The reason I say not the older one but the Mark 2 is because it has an output, has an HDMI output for an external monitor. I have a 7610 that has that. And I will never go back to a radio. It doesn't have a big monitor.
Speaker B: You can connect to it but then I'm old.
Speaker E: But it shows you that basically I never look at the screen on a radio anymore and I use ham radio D locks. Not everybody does that. But you know, anyhow I hope he does well, hope he has fun with it and you know, look into doing the QRZ 250 work states event that's going on right now. You know, that's pretty fun. And here I've got one too. But it's a little more difficult because you got to be, you know, you got to get Logbook of the World. You have to get. Speaker B: all right Jim. Yeah, a couple of my neighbors have picked up the 7300 mark 2. I had the 7300 and I must say comparing the 7300 to the mark II, there is no comparison. They definitely made some great improvements, noise mitigation and filtering and I will just float out there as well. A a similar radio will be the radio that I own which DX10 and fabulous. The new generations of SDR based radios are just fantastic at noise mitigation. And like you said, putting the screen out on a big monitor makes it quite enjoyable to use a ki7ay ai6us. We have around minus 7 degrees Celsius and it's very windy so the temperature feels like minus 10 or 11 or something and it's way cold out there. I was on my way from from the tram and to my house and it's about 200 meter and my face was frozen. I don't like this kind of weather. It's not usual for us to have

And yeah, I think that little part of the meeting went away in a few 15 minutes or something. It's no problem there. So it was good. So that's a little social thing and that's nice. Speaker A: We didn't have any real presentation but we talked about all the rules for a club when it was started, I think and they have to rewrite them and we talked a little bit about that and yeah, it was a general discussion of nearly everything. So it was not a special presentation. Maybe I will do one lesson for all my radio lesson notes I'm using here. I think about that. So we also talked about some presentation about. About how to do pota. We had one last year but there are new rules there to take care of and new parks and new places added. So maybe we will have a presentation about later on. So yeah, that's what's. That's in the pipeline I think. So that will be good. So we will see what the coming months have to do. Have to give us, I should say. And yeah, you see it's not the most active club over here but we have some meeting and we have sometimes a good presentation and sometimes we only drinking coffee and talk to each other. And yeah, very interesting to follow along on what you're tuning into on your live feeds there. One question before I let you go. How much traffic do you normally have on your live feeds? Do you find people are finding out about amateur radio because of the feeds or do you think they're mostly amateur radio operators who are following along?
Speaker C: Well, you know, that's quite an interesting question there, Brian. It seems like about half and half there. There is a huge uptick usually right at the beginning of the live stream for about the first hour or so when I just do the let's listen to the radio sort of stuff and then it goes down from there overnight. You know, I run it overnight. So overnight, daytime, somewhere else. But it's quite interesting to see about 42% of people are not subscribed to me already that come in to watch. So it definitely. There's some interest from outside the ham radio community. It seems like.
Speaker B: Yeah, always interesting to know that because, you know, it's interesting how people find out about amateur radio case. Probably one of the more interesting ways that we interact with the public is our fox hunts. You always have somebody coming up and going, what are you, what are you doing? And then the conversation, oh, I had an uncle or I, you know, have a friend, somebody at work who's amateur radio. And it just, you know, actually brought people into the, into the hobby because of just these. You never know. Somebody surfing the Internet runs across the live feed and go, man, that's something I've always been interested in, Frank. They headed off for a points eastbound headed back towards Tennessee. So there was a carrot cake with your name written on it. It just didn't get shared.

Speaker A: Well, no, absolutely. You know, and I kid not, I am a carrot cake connoisseur. It just blows my mind that it can be the best carrot cake in the world and be gluten free. That just doesn't jive.

Speaker C: for the repeater? I'm using a heltech lora version 4 with the appropriate antenna that Jeff provided. I've got that. I'm going to have that attached, the antenna attached to my little job box. And it's going to be the highest point of the house here. And Jeff has done some studies and says that I should be able to or I will hit Auburn from my repeater and probably the one out there in West Roseville as well. So he thinks it'll be a good fill for this region here.
Speaker A: Well, very good. Yeah. I was talking to somebody last night who said that they were having trouble getting into Auburn and they were down in the Roseville area. So our Highlands believe so, yeah, that will be great to have another station kind of starting to fill in for the mesh core system. Well, excellent. Keep us updated on your project there. And I also am looking at the Heltech V4 and there's a couple other new ones out there. And so I just decided, you know, instead of rushing into it, I'm going to attend the club meeting on the 13th and listen to the presentation by Jeff on Mesh Core and some of you who are already going down that path of installing Mesh Core and make sure that I'm purchasing the, you know, the best option for the system. Speaker A: Yeah, well, that last transmission was perfect, so, yeah, definitely got a higher modulation there. And so I'm guessing you're using your phone app, like Repeaterphone, Right?
Speaker B: Right. That's what I'm using is the Repeaterphone app.
Speaker A: Yeah. Well, I think actually that's working a lot better right now. I can actually hold. Hold down a conversation with you this way.
Speaker B: Yeah, there's an advantage having an All Star connected repeater right there.
Speaker A: Yeah, it definitely gives you some other possibilities, doesn't it? You know, so that's always good, especially if you have a data connection, which over there you. You would have. Especially when you run that Starlink.
Speaker B: Not running Starlink, just using cellular data right now.
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. Hey, the trick would be, is it possible to get like. Like Tyler involved at the same time where we could all have like a three way? That would be interesting.
Speaker B: Well, unfortunately, I don't know if we'll ever get Tyler to go to an iPhone to get a good app. I got their TV switch, but it's clunky. You know, Android problem.
Speaker A: Yeah, but no, he's done stuff like that before, but I think. Was he on Echo Link? Maybe he was on Echo Link before.
Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. And we do not Echo Link tie into this. I don't like Echo Link, and I think Echo Link should be discontinued completely.
Speaker A: Well, it seems like it has a little bit more latency, but like on the net last night for. For the Pars group, a person checked in on Echo Link.
Speaker B: I don't know what net that was on.
Speaker A: Yeah, the. The paradise group on the Pars repeaters. Anyway, a person was from Indiana, and I was talking to them for a while after the net, all 15 minutes. Yeah. Well, your last transmission was a bit Garbled packet loss, but something about fidelity. Yeah, I don't know. Right now I would compare it to be fairly equal right now. You know, last night's conversation went pretty good, so. But yeah, before it was terrible, so. I agree. Echo link was not very good before.
Speaker B: No. And I'm in a pretty bad part for data right now, so that might be why I'm having trouble. Can you hear me, Steve?
Speaker A: Yes, I did hear the last transmission. Yes. Not that time. At that time there was nothing.
Speaker B: Well, that's just where I'm located, right? It's not the connection on the mount, that's for sure.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, yeah, and I. I'm getting all kinds of node traffic out here too. I'm just turning left on the Durham 10th Road. I'm sure you know where that is. And mesh nodes going crazy. I just deleted all my nodes to start over again. So it clears them out and. And brings in all the new stuff. So I like that sometimes doing that. But. But unfortunately today it'll be busy with new notes seen. Just like you're doing from your house right now.
Speaker B: Yeah, my notes are home. I didn't bring anything out with me.
Speaker A: That's fine. Did you leave. You leave at least that one on? Because if I see it pop up, I'm going to send in a message. Message.
Speaker B: So I believe the CDAC is on, which is. It's on. And I believe the repeater on.
Speaker A: Yeah, the only one I'm interested in is the repeater one. So if I see that one pop up, I'm going to try to send it some messages to see. Because when I get out here, I'm going to Yankee Hill. I have it lined into that Sutter Butte, so if I can get into there, then it can retransmit. Hopefully you'll get it. That'd be interesting. But some of this is experimental, so we'll see if it announces itself, you know, and I'm able to see it. That'd be good.
Speaker B: I have my doubts that you're going to be able to see it. I'm stand cider Gibbs, but I really doubt that Sutter Buttes is seeing me at the moment.
Speaker A: Well, the Sutter Buttes is set up as a router, so it doesn't really see anybody. In a sense, all it's doing is taking information data packets and passing them around. So anyway, that's what it's doing. But yeah, the traffic has got to be able to. I got to be able to see it. You got to be able to see it. And then if I can get a message into it and you're seeing it, you should be getting messages coming from me. But yeah, you responding would be a problem. Obviously you're not there. But that's kind of the neat thing about it too is that it's like the store and forward. So if I send messages and you receive them later on, you check them. So they should be there.
Speaker B: Okay, now they should be. Plus the two deck is on. So if you can see the note at the house, then you'll be able to see the two deck as well, right?
Speaker A: Yeah, possibly so. But that just depends on if your position packet's going out. Like usually, you know, I think defaults every hour, you know, and then is that router system picking it up? You know, that's the problem. I may not see you because it's not picking you up like you said. So but if I do see you, then I'm going to try.
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. Well, at least I found a kind of a temporary workaround when I'm out here. I can come, come in on the phone for the most part.
Speaker A: Yeah. Like right now. It's perfect. So anyway, yeah, so if you do get time when you get home, you can check the repeater for any messages. Anyway, you might have, you know, 30, 40 messages sitting there, you know, on the medium fast channel that are, you know, from the bay mash. You might look to see if any of those are from me just in case, but I don't know. We'll see. Just depends on if I can get in.
Speaker B: Well, Floyd looked last night, he could not see my note on medium South. I talked to him for a minute.
Speaker A: Yeah, it takes a while to discover things too. So as an example, he may have to. Well, I don't know if he was on medium fast already, he may have to delete nodes or whatever. But no, if he started it to medium fast, it should have been fresh too. So anyway, a lot of times it takes a little while, 24 hours to get a lot more. No traffic seen.
Speaker B: Absolutely. So I don't even. I looked on that map this morning and it wasn't seeing me. So that's what gives the impression that nobody's hearing me. I'm hearing people, but I don't think they're hearing me.

Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. So, like you said, the investment levels. Well, I don't know if you saw KF6OBI's newsletter last night, but he had a link to the guy down in the Auburn area that makes all those nose stuff.
Speaker B: No, I did not. I thought about that. The guy is doing a lot more mesh core, which is fine. That's a good way to go, too. Possibly like K6L something. W. That guy, the guitar player guy.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was a link to that guy. The guy that does all the pies and all that.
Speaker B: Yeah, he was the one doing meshtastic before. Now he's kind of switched over to mesh core, so. Nothing wrong with that. That might be the way to go for you guys. I don't know. So. And we may end up. Honestly, these guys around here may end up trying that, too. It's just kind of all experimental, so fastastic just seems to be the way that we started, so. And then all these devices can easily put the mesh core firmware on it.
Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. We'll just have to see what. See what happens.
Speaker B: Yeah. Well, I'm kind of testing the W6TRC going through this area around Butte College. It seems to be working pretty good. What antenna? I know Mike was talking about changing the antenna. What antenna is Gary going to be putting up?
Speaker A: I'm not sure what he's got in mind, but I can guarantee he's got something in mind. He's also going to change feedback.
Speaker B: Yeah. Okay. Yeah, that's good. And someone asked Obi about how many watts it's putting out, and he said that he thinks it's putting out a little bit less than 100 watts now. Anyway, that's what he stated.
Speaker A: I think it's somewhere around 60 to 70, but I could be mistaken as well.
Speaker B: Yeah, is. And was that the measurements taken after the duplexers?

Speaker B: Be. Oh, someone took out part of the guardrail out here. Hopefully didn't go over the ditch there but over the bank. I mean right at the end of Durham pence and Highway 70. Part of the guardrail there was mangled.
Speaker A: Uh oh, somebody messed up.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's almost like they went directly in it and it, it would have definitely if they kept on going they would have been over the bank. And that's probably a hundred foot drop.
Speaker A: Pretty good drops up there, that's for sure.
Speaker B: Well by looking at stopped him. So it did its job. But I wonder how that goes from an insurance perspective. Like if you've got insurance now, just like let's say State Farm, did he have to pay to have that fixed?
Speaker A: I believe they send your insurance company a bill, right?
Speaker B: Yeah, I would assume so. Got no idea. But when you're paying about 100 people to fix a 10 foot section of guardrail, that's when they get expensive.

Speaker B: Yeah, I would assume so. Yeah. They do that a lot. So you know, that's why I said 100 workers. They only need two. But they're going to have to bring in another 98 to watch them.

Speaker B: So the only time period that W6EK hears this repeater is between that say 7 and 10 window.
Speaker A: So we're disconnected from W60K right now. Right? We're, we're completely disconnected. It automatically connects.
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. This morning I heard, I heard the net control, I think say someone from W6DRC was trying to check in and then knowing the person didn't come back. So curious about that. But I know, I was just listening. That wasn't me.
Speaker A: We've got somebody that's keying up while the nets on thinking if they see us they'll shut the repeater up. Right?
Speaker B: That could be. Anyway. All right, well I'm in a real bad spot. Let's see does. Are you hearing me good right here?
Speaker A: I was able to hear you through there.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's that corridor that goes right after the, the bridge. And I mean we literally got you know, 50 foot hills on both sides.
