Speaker A: Good morning. This is the coffee breaknet on the W6EK repeater. I am Tom NN6H. I am your net host for today which is February 13, 2026. The coffee break net is where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping and it's a beautiful day here in Discovery Bay. The sun is out and everything looks great out here. So this is the coffee breaknet. We do this every morning from sun 7:30 until 10am ish on the W60K repeater. All Star 51018 and Echo Link and we welcome you to check in. We as we generally start out with, we do some quick in and out. So that's generally two minutes or less. So let's go ahead and do that for those that would want to get their day started and get checked into the coffee breaknet. So who's out there? This is Tom, NN6H,
Speaker B: Whiskey, Whiskey, Echo, Foxtrot, WW6DEF, K6DLK.
Speaker C: Good morning, Tom.
Speaker B: Good morning,
Speaker D: Tom. KCF QV.
Speaker E: In 6, wq20, thomas,
Speaker F: Kj5 golf, november.
Speaker A: Okay, good morning. Got a kind of tumble there, but I think I got most people out of here, so I got. Yeah, k6ymm. Good to hear you, mike. I got kj5gwn, will, kn6wq, kc8fqv, mark. I got k, km6nuf, joshua, k6dlk, and ww6def at the top. Did I miss anybody from this list?
Speaker D: Lima sierra.
Speaker A: Okay, I got W3 Lima Sierra. That's a new call to me. We'll find out who you are. And I got the M6 CKV, Carl. All right, that's pretty good list for Friday morning here. So I'll go to the top here to Darren, WW6 def. And Darren, I was thinking about you today when I went and looked at the national days. And I was going to mention this later, but the one of the national days is national radio. What is it? Yeah, it's World Radio Day. World Radio Day. And it shows a whole bunch of vintage radios. I mean, we can kind of, you know, take it to mean amateur radio, but it is World Radio day, so. Good morning, Darren.
Speaker B: Hey, good morning, Thomas and annette. This is ww6df here. Yeah, these radios, man, you know, I find them out there. I'm out there going for the hunt this morning and I found a couple last week and took them into the store and hot damn, they're selling. It's like they want these tube radios. It's weird.
Speaker E: Yeah.
Speaker A: And what kind of brings it around to this year is that we have Ham Fest, which is going to be on March 28th. And I remember meeting you for the first time. I was at a booth there taking photos last year, and you were picking up a bunch of old radios there, and I. I thought, that must be Darren.
Speaker B: Yeah, you know, I'm still looking for them. A few of them still don't sell. They sat for a minute, actually. I couldn't figure out why they wouldn't work. I don't have the skills, and I don't know which thing in there that'll burn me up when I touch it. Anyways, I gave it to my neighbor because he has the skills with tube radios, ones that don't work. And he says there's a trick to fix one of those tubes when it has static. There's just one tube. You just gotta clean it up a little bit, test it, and then get a new one and replace it and your radio comes back on. But I've just been baffled when I. When I do pick up these radios and plug them in and I'm like, holy smokes, this thing's working. It's crazy. It's just weird. It's really cool. Yeah. Going out looking for records still and all that good stuff. That's all I'm doing. And, yeah, it's supposed to be at two minutes, so I guess I went over that quota. Thanks for running the net today, Thomas. We'll catch you on the flip side. And I'm definitely going to make it out the field day. Or not field day, but Ham Fest.
Speaker A: Very good there, Darren. Well, yeah, that's good. Mark, mark, mark. March 28. March 28, 6am for sellers, 7am for buyers at the Loomis Ham Fest. And we'll definitely. We'll see you out there.
Speaker F: All right.
Speaker A: You have a great day there. And, yeah, good to hear you this morning. All right, let's go to Dan K6TLK. Good morning and Aloha Friday. And I sound like you're back here in the. In the mainland. Right
Speaker C: back on the land that is the main one.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker C: Yes, I'm still laughing. You brought up radio day with Darren, which got me looking. Desperation Day. I guess there's also Madly in Love with me day.
Speaker E: There's a.
Speaker C: Is that. No, it's February 13th. It says right here Kiss Day, which obviously you've got to get ready for Valentine's Day. I have a national Condom Day. And then for those who are out of luck, it's Self Love Day. Hey, it's also National Wingman Day. I told Yankee Mikey Mikey that I was going to talk crap about him on the radio here and I think we flushed him out of the woods.
Speaker A: Yeah, I kind of wondered when you guys both checked in at the same time there. I figured he probably wants to defend himself there. Well, yeah, it is International Condom Day and that's followed by National Apology Day. I don't know if that is related.
Speaker F: Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker C: But a shout out. It is Friday the 13th so maybe
Speaker A: maybe bring two of those condoms. I don't know. But it's National Apology Day and it's kind of strange. It's also followed by national blame Somebody else day. So I don't know what that means. And what else is it? Yeah. And it is World Radio Day so we can definitely celebrate World radio.
Speaker C: Yeah. And if you really do some questionable stuff, it's also get a different name day start tomorrow. Hey, thanks for bringing us all together, Tom.
Speaker A: Hope that brings a smile to your face.
Speaker C: Tommy Bahami, always a pleasure. I better get the heck out of the way. I hear Dan Uno in there. I think I'm demoted to like Dan
Speaker A: Cinco at this point.
Speaker C: I think there's a bunch of Dan's in the club and on the net that check in. Enjoy listening to everybody get in there and I'll get out of the way
Speaker A: because this is a quick in and
Speaker C: out and Brian's probably texting you already saying the egg timers out of time. K6DLK673 and aloha.
Speaker A: No we run an efficient ship here there Dan. Okay, very good. Well enjoy the the national days there and yeah yeah you're looking at the same list on him. So anyway have a great day and welcome back to the States I guess. I know hopefully you get another trip there out to paradise Maui soon there. So clearing with K6DLK. Always good to hear from you on this Aloha Friday. Next up, Joshua KN6nUF Good morning. Like you're back home so hopefully you're doing well.
Speaker E: All right. Dan.
Speaker A: Dan, you are so over driven. There it is. I we understood what you said there but it was got road noise in the back something like the volume on. It's like you're coming through on repeater phone or DV switch. It is so, so loud there. So yeah, not a good, not a good thing there. So I'm not going to come back to you but you might want to look at that going forward there. But anyway got you on a road trip Going down the Mariner woods. Enjoy that. And, yeah, let us know how that works out there. And good to hear that you're up and about and out of the hospital. All right, so I'm going to go ahead and clear with Joshua. Next I have Mark. KC8FQV. Good morning, Mark. Good morning. To the coffee break event. Kc8fqv.nm6h.
Speaker D: We're up like 20 degrees or, I mean, close to 30 now, I think. Yeah. And I was trying to remember why
Speaker A: the dryer wasn't working.
Speaker D: And God, unplugged somehow that one of the plugs that are in the wall.
Speaker A: Okay, Mark, well, hopefully you have the. The dryer and all that stuff. Kc8fqvn6h are you hearing this there, Mark? Okay, maybe he's out there trying to figure out what's going on with his dryer there. All right, well, maybe we'll come back to you a little bit later here, Mark. So next on my list is dan.kn6wqu Good morning on this fine day.
Speaker D: Good day here. So It's Friday the 13th, KCF QV. And I know we go out to the restaurant tomorrow night after the auction. Probably may be crowded because of the 14th. So back it comes. K7.
Speaker B: All right, Mark.
Speaker A: Yeah, we're. We're not getting you. It's not like the bits and pieces of your conversation here. Got that?
Speaker C: It.
Speaker A: You know, tomorrow is, you know, February 14th, you know, Valentine's Day, but anyway. And also a year dryer, but not. I don't know what's going on your side there. Back to you there for a short transmission. KC8FQV and N6H. All right, Mark. Yeah, we're not hearing you. So it must be something going on on your side there. All right, let me go to dan.km6wqu Good morning, Dan.
Speaker E: Good morning, Tom and annette. This is KN6WQU. Notice. Just staying off and actually more than I wanted to. So my nephew, my sister's son gave me a call yesterday and said, I'm Danny. I'm so Danny, I don't know what's going on with my car. Doesn't want to run. I'm like, okay. So I'm like. He said something about, oh, all you got to do is just program the crank sensor. I'm like, that's not how it works. If it doesn't start, it's definitely not a crank sensor, because crank sensor, it'll still run. It'll just misfire or something. I mean, some cars, you have to program it, but not the news on. So I went over there and tried to figure this thing out. It was cranking and cranking and cranking. It didn't get anything to do anything. And so I broke up the old oscilloscope and. Well, not old, it's actually new, still $3,000 or so, I think expensive. And I hooked it up to it and we found that one of the bank camshaft sensors was the wrong one. So he doesn't remember replacing it or he did it in paste or some type of different mood using. The point is this car is running now, so it's all good. So today, supposed to be a day off, but that's not going to happen because I made. Made some appointments for tomorrow, which was a big no no for me. So I got to do two jobs today and then we're going to talk the pay bowling and then all of the other fun stuff. Let me let it drop. I got a quick update regarding the air conditioning system and then I'll get out here. Thanks, Tom. All right. So, man, we've been on tech support calls I think six times. I believe we are now in. We are now in a group chat with people there. So we can just get on the messenger and send messages and then get back to us right away. So no more calling through the automated system, which is, I guess, kind of nice. I mean, I don't know what that means. So my AT guy was like saying, you know, I think there's something wrong with the control board or something like that. So they're going to send out a new control board. So I got confirmation that was going through the mail yesterday. So it should be here in the next couple days. We're going to try to slam that thing in there and hopefully we have heat if Ms. Saga is finally over. So we'll have to see how it goes. Thanks for letting me tap on this.
Speaker A: Your audio is a little on the. On the weak side, silent side there, but mostly you're saying. Yeah. So it's not you. You're not going to have a day off today and you're still having. I guess they're still trying to resolve the AC issue there. Going on for a long time.
Speaker E: Yeah. So the. What I mean by ac, I mean by mini split. What I mean by that, I mean a heat pump system. So therefore, if the Freon is not a flowing, we're not getting any heat or cold for that matter. Although in my situation, cold is indeed working perfectly, but heat is not. Although it uses Freon in reverse, it's Called the heat pump system. And then basically it. That's how it. So it retracts the heat from outside and brings it inside. It's new. Well, it's not really new, but they got this new inverter pump, you know, stuff that makes it so much easier. Easier for everybody. But anyway, this is supposed to be quick in and out and. Yeah, so we still have no heat. This is KN6WQ. Tom Page running net.
Speaker A: Okay, very good. Okay, now I understand. Well, yeah, that that is not good if you don't. Doesn't have any heat. And I guess the cold you just kind of get naturally there with all the outside temperature. Well, hopefully that gets resolved and they can figure that out. I think that's what you're talking about is these little things that you mount in each of the rooms or outside of each room to bring in heat and cool. All right, well, hopefully that gets resolved there. Excuse me. I'm getting over a cold here. So my voice seems to be going here. Hopefully it's going to continue on for the rest of the net. All right, Dan, well, 7:3 to you. And again, good luck. Yeah, and hope. Hope you can get at least some of your day off there and not have to work all day. So clearing with Dan KN6WQU. Let's go back to Oklahoma. KJ5GWN Good morning, Will.
Speaker F: Good morning, Tom. Yep, it's Will. KJ5 Gupta St in November here. Getting ready for the rain. Yep. Supposed to rain the next couple of days, so getting all prepared for that. Trying to track down Meals on Wheels delivery order that should have been delivered on Tuesday, but unfortunately it has not been delivered and I can't get any. I can't make any headway on tracking it either through FedEx or the company that sends them out. So gotta see if I can track those down this weekend. And I got my bells reset to FedEx, so hopefully that comes through because I depend on those meals. So anyway, the meals are made in Idaho, but they're shipped out of Tennessee. So go figure. Anyway, not doing too much here. So back to you, Tom. This is KJ5 Golf Whiskey November.
Speaker A: All right. Well, yeah. KJ5GWN NN6H for the coffee breaknet. Well, hopefully that's not good. It was shipped on Tuesday or supposed to arrive on Tuesday and it's already Friday. That's not good. Well, hopefully you can get all that stuff sorted out there. I didn't realize that the Meals on Wheels were actually shipped out like that. I guess. I don't know much about it, but I thought it was like hand delivered or something. But anyway, well, good luck with that there will and hopefully when you report back again tomorrow that you'll have everything will be resolved.
Speaker E: All right.
Speaker A: And you take care there and you know, watch out for the rain coming through. So clearing with kj5gwn next I have mike k6 ymm good mike, good to hear from you. And do you have any rebuttal to Dan K6DLK?
Speaker A: Good morning Tom and the rest of the world. Well, yeah, just on that International Condom day. Obviously my father didn't wear one of them things. From what I understand they didn't make them big enough back in the day. But other than that I don't think there's any trash attempts to talk about me that isn't true. But anyway, also understand Dan, for a quick in and out, you don't need a condom.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker C: Touche there. Okay. Yeah, I thought you were going to relate it back to Dan, but that's okay. Yeah, I think Dan was busy just going over all the national days and he probably didn't get a get a chance to. To have some bad talk about you there. So I think you lucked out for that.
Speaker A: M. Hey, you never know. I just having some luck with this bureau of media like I say, updated some firmware and software and one of the new features I'm kind of impressed with is when you use the pushy talkie on the map and I saw the ISS fly over on the map and I get the little icon and comes the frequency, you can just pop into it and talk on that thing. Kind of impressed with this, this radio. But anyway, it's a quickie. So on with the show. Tom.k6ymn73 to everybody out there and have a blast. Quick comment.
Speaker D: All right, Dan, go ahead with your rebuttal.
Speaker A: Not so much of a rebuttal.
Speaker C: I know that Mike is working hard
Speaker E: getting into the repeater using his radio there, but he was commenting on the Vero updates.
Speaker C: For all those who have the Vero
Speaker E: radio, there's a firmware update and the app changes and it's very cool. It has all of the satellite radio area updated and keeps track of all of the satellites based on your location, what's overhead and when you click on the satellite, you can actually communicate directly with the satellite.
Speaker F: And I believe it adjusts
Speaker C: for the
Speaker E: location of the satellite too in frequency on that. I think that's what Mike was referencing back there on his quick in and out without a condom.
Speaker A: K60 okay.
Speaker C: Yep.
Speaker A: Very.
Speaker C: Yeah. Very, very good there.
Speaker F: Yeah.
Speaker C: And I can confirm that I actually have a btec and I think I've talked about this before on the net and other places, but I have a BTEC. Both Doug and I W2VX myself have a BTEC handheld radio that uses the same software. It uses the Vero software there. I think Vero even makes a version of that. And yeah, it does have that. If you look go on the the app that's on your phone and you can get into the satellite mode. And yeah, you click on the iss, it does populate the frequencies, both the up and down frequency in the radio as well as it tracks it as it's going across using the Doppler effect for the frequency. So, yeah, it is very cool. That's been in the handheld one for
Speaker A: at least six months.
Speaker C: I remember we were playing with that before, Doug and I. So, yeah, it's a cool, cool thing. And the software on that thing is. Is pretty good.
Speaker A: Except.
Speaker C: Except Dave Q6DCL, he had the Vero radio and he had problems because he was using. Using an Android app and for some reason he couldn't get the tones and stuff to get turned off on that. So. But. But otherwise, yeah, those are nice little radios. All right, very good. Well, thanks for bringing in that Dan and Mike there, K6 ymm. You have a great day. And yeah, enjoy your radio. Yeah, it's not. You're also a little bit weak into the repeater, but I think your antenna system is probably not the best right there. All right, anyway, I'll go ahead and move on here. So next I have Carl N6 CKV. Good morning, Carl. What do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker G: Good morning, Tom and everyone else, thanks
Speaker C: for running the net. Well, I got to do the ugly work today. I got to start the taxes. Not much going on at the old homestead. It's sunny and 43 degrees out there. All right, very good on the taxes. So do you do it yourself or do you just collect stuff and give it off to somebody to do? I use TurboTax. It's fairly easy to do. You just have to enter numbers for
Speaker D: a long time,
Speaker C: Do the same thing. And basically it just pulls in the old taxes and kind of populates what you have there, then enter the new stuff and then you're off. Yeah, I do the same thing since the mine's not that complicated. Okay, well, enjoy your taxes. At least you're getting it done earlier, not waiting to April 14th, so. Very good. Yeah, I have some medical things in April, so I've got to get it done early. Very good. And remember, and also to you and everybody else, remember, tomorrow is Valentine's Day, February 14th. So keep that in mind if you haven't already thought about that. All right, well, Carl, anything else before I move on? No. Everyone have a good Friday to the N60 KV. I'll say 73. Okay, carl, you have a great day there and thanks a lot for the check in. All right, clearing with carl n6c kv. Next I go up to mary w3ls. Good morning, mary.
Speaker B: Good morning, Tom and the NET. This is W3LS from Eugene, Oregon, where it is, according to the Amazon box, 42 degrees, supposed to go up to 52 or 3. And we might get some rain tonight, which would be very good. I hope we get it. We need it. Mountains need a whole lot of snow. Love your national days. Some of those are pretty cool. National Blame Somebody Else Day. Sounds like that one's made for politicians. World Radio Day, though. That's wonderful. We have a guy in our club up here in Eugene who, he's an elderly guy and he's still into all these old radios and he fixes them and there must be people that want them fixed because he's described some of the work he's done and it's like, my God, you get the radio from the 40s or earlier. Why does anybody want that? But hey, good for them, good for him. And I guess that's about it from me. Not too much going on here today, so we'll send it Back to you. W3LS.
Speaker C: Okay, very good there, Mary. Yeah, W3LS and then 6H for the coffee breaknet. Yeah, it seems like there's a storm coming through on the west coast here because we're also scheduled to get some rain here, I guess this weekend, according to Mark. So hopefully he'll be on a little bit later to tell us. Yeah, yeah. When I saw that about the, the World Radio Day, it showed a whole
Speaker D: bunch of the, the radios like from
Speaker C: the 40s and 50s and 60s and stuff. And I thought of Darren WW6DF because he now retired, but he goes out and kind of collects those radios and resells them. So, yeah, I guess there is a
Speaker D: demand for, for a lot of that stuff.
Speaker A: Stuff.
Speaker C: I mean, I think they're kind of cool looking. You know, it kind of reminds me of my, you know, when I, I used to do, tear those things apart and do all that stuff when I was a kid. So I enjoy doing that. I didn't enjoy the tubes side of things, all the heat and all that stuff there, but the radios themselves look, look cool. All right, Mary, very good. Well, I'll go ahead and sign with you there and you have a great day there in Eugene and, and prepare for any rain or storm that's coming through. All right, so clearing with W3LS. This is Tom NN6H. This is the Coffee Breaknet. I want to remind people that we do have a club meeting tonight and
Speaker A: this is going to be a new
Speaker C: open house for our club meeting at the Placer County HHS Conference Center. And I'm sorry, I'm losing my voice here.
Speaker D: I'm getting over a cold.
Speaker C: But it's going to be at 7:30 tonight at the conference center. And this will be in Auburn, California, starts at 7:30. It'll also be on Zoom.
Speaker D: So you can go to the Zoom
Speaker C: room on the w6ek.org website and click on that. But yeah, it's gonna be an open house and it should be a great event for the club meeting if you're in the area. All right, and I'll talk more about
Speaker G: that as we come along here.
Speaker C: So let me go ahead here and do another quick round of in and outs for the coffee Breaknet. Who's out there? This is Tom, NN6H W8LDT.
Speaker G: Tim in Michigan.
Speaker C: Kilo Charlie six kilo, Charles.
Speaker F: I reject from KC8 box queen Victor. We'll just see how it sounds. Yet. November. Broadcasting live from red mountain at an elevation.
Speaker C: Okay, I got katie 3 ajn, and I got the k4 lgi. Sam got a recheck from mark. Kc8fqv. I got graydon, kc6fle, you got ron, k6uai, and tim. W8ldt. Did I miss somebody from this group? Good morning. Okay, I got nothing but a double there. But I do hear somebody say good morning. So could the good morning station come back?
Speaker A: Try this one more time.
Speaker B: Kilo Bravo 6 Lima, Uniform, Victor, Brett.
Speaker D: Good morning.
Speaker C: Okay, Brett, WV6L U V. I didn't recognize your voice, but okay, got you in. And who was the other station that doubled on our.
Speaker A: Kk 6am? Kk 6am.
Speaker C: All right, ray, kk 6am got you there. Yeah, you had doubled with brett and. And nobody won. Okay, I got kk 6am and I also see n3dq. Are you trying to check in?
Speaker A: Also,
Speaker F: The n3dqd is named kd3ajs, And
Speaker C: I always do that. I just Never associate the N3DQD with your call sign. But yeah, I did acknowledge you. We do have you on the list there. Sorry about that. Didn't mean to double up there.
Speaker A: Okay,
Speaker C: so let me go to my recheck here. Mark a case. KC8F QV. Good morning again.
Speaker F: Yeah, I closed our DV switch. Aren't reconnected it, so maybe it cleaned up. Yeah, we go to an auction and it'll be crowded tomorrow night for restaurants because a lot of people Engage on Valentine's Day and a lot get married. A lot of people go out that day. And I got the dryer straightened up. It was unplugged or it was loose, so I got back in. So go and clean up the back, and I'll be back in business. So hopefully maybe that came out better. KC8FQV. Let me know.
Speaker C: Okay. Mark. Yeah, KC8FQV. NN68. Yeah, it definitely got you that time. No problem. Yeah, it must have been an issue before, because it was kind of. I just heard bits and pieces of your transmission before there. Okay, very good. Well, we got that, and. Yeah, very good. So anything else for the net before I move on here?
Speaker A: Nope.
Speaker F: I'll just send it back to Net control. I figured that might have been what was doing, because a lot of times I'll switch, just disconnect from one node, go to the other. And a lot of times it doesn't always want to clean up itself. So I close out the program, reboot it. So case C8FQV. I'm using DV switch on the Galaxy S8. I got also on the Pixel 7. So, Casey at FQV.
Speaker C: Okay, we're good there, Mark. Yeah.
Speaker A: Where.
Speaker C: You're coming through solid now, so, yeah, the connection is good. So. Okay, very good. You have a great. A great Friday and a great Valentine's Day tomorrow. All right, I'm gonna go to the top of my list here, then I got to go to W8LDT.
Speaker D: Good morning, Tim.
Speaker A: Good morning, Tom and the rest of the Net.
Speaker G: I don't have a whole lot going on today. We're heading to lunch right now. Got sunshine and blue skies, and I was able to file my TurboTax this morning, so
Speaker D: federal government's already accepted my taxes, so.
Speaker A: Yeah, we're happy.
Speaker G: Had a problem there for about two days with TurboTax. It wouldn't accept my payment, but woke up this morning, tried it again, and it worked just fine. So my taxes are done and off to the state and the federal government.
Speaker C: Very good. Well, I'm impressed that you're up on top of it and then file it and have it all.
Speaker D: All accepted there.
Speaker C: Yeah, I guess a lot of people are thinking about that. And I'll probably end up doing mine, probably.
Speaker D: Probably around April 14th. I guess we'll see how things go.
Speaker C: Probably should do it earlier than that, but, yeah, very good. Well, I'm glad you're on top of it and very good.
Speaker A: All right.
Speaker D: Anything else back there for this morning?
Speaker C: The W8 Ltd and then 6H
Speaker A: Nope. We're just.
Speaker C: Yep.
Speaker A: Enjoying the drive to our, to our
Speaker G: lunch spot so definitely enjoying the blue skies today. So.
Speaker A: NN6H W8LDT7 3 Tom
Speaker C: well7 3 there Tim and. And enjoy your lunch there and thanks for check in. We got you in the log here. All right, let me so clear with W8LDT next scooter. Ron Ka6uai Good morning, Ron.
Speaker D: K6uai well, I've lost my voice here. I. I'm hoping that caffeine absorbs through the lungs as well as it does through the stomach, but we'll wait and see.
Speaker C: Well, I kind of have the same feeling with my voice, but yeah, go ahead.
Speaker A: You sound fine.
Speaker D: Well, yeah, I was just choking on some coffee.
Speaker C: Nothing really for the net this morning. Just checking in.
Speaker D: It's an Aloha Friday so I woke up late unfortunately, so I'm not going to get as much work done early in the morning. I only have one appointment today and then it will be time to clean up the rest of the week and get back to some projects. I've got about three quarters of my little strip hat rack things that go on the wall installed and I'm not sure I have room for the last one. I might have to do something there. Clear out one end of the closet. Little better, but they're going in the open. No door closet. This part of my office above my work table. I've got close to 200 caps I think so I can get them, get them all up with that many racks, but that's about it for the day. Well, yeah, some radio stuff. I'm gonna maybe do another setup of the mast now that I have more of the all the parts to it. Didn't have a ground state to hold it in place before the new carbon fiber mast, the 33H and some other things. Sorting through my new kit, I have to find out what bits and pieces go in both kits and maybe those will go in a plastic box depending on which one I want to take. I can dump that in there. So getting my, my airline kit ready and that way we can go do a little longer distance travel hopefully this year and maybe set up on the beach on Kauai. We'll see. And that'll be a really good Ola ha Friday if I do that.
Speaker G: I think that's a nice visual there.
Speaker C: I mean you had mentioned that before about on the beach on Kauai and that would be a nice place to be able to set up there with a Mai Tai and a lounge chair and your radio and make some contacts. I think that's a great thing to do. A nice way to relax.
Speaker D: Yeah. Although it's not enforced. It's probably no drinking on the beaches there. But you can always make the lemon lime Gatorade margarita. And that looks. That looks just like a Gatorade, which everybody needs when they're out on the beach. A little salt in there and shake it up good. Maybe a little extra lime juice, a little extra sugar, but, yeah, it looks good. Maybe roll margarita mix inside the Gatorade bottle. We'll try that.
Speaker C: Maybe.
Speaker D: And margarita's a little tougher. We might, at our better place, we might have a pog tub, which is the pog drink, with one fifth of a gallon of rum mixed in the gallon container and a little bit of dark rum, some Wailer's black rubber.
Speaker A: Quarter around the rim. Yeah, that sounded better all the time now that you're bringing all this up. Anyway, I'll let you get back to the net and everyone have a great Friday and sliding on into the weekend. K6Uai. Okay, pretty good there, Ron. Well, aloha Friday to you. And yeah, this is no apology day, so no need to apologize for that. And it's always what, five o' clock somewhere. Right. Anyway, you take care and you have a great day there and hopefully you can do some, some radio stuff later after the work is done. All right, clearing with K6UAI next Graden KC6SLA. Good morning, Graydon. Aloha Friday to you.
Speaker B: Good morning, Tom.
Speaker C: Good to hear you. Good morning everyone else on the net. Yes, we've got significant storm coming in next week. Looking at the weather forecast, I think Mark will probably be on later and talk about it, but they're talking about significant amounts of rain and snow and that's a good thing. We need to snow. We definitely need to build up the largest reservoir we have in the state and that's the Sierra snowpack.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's kind of looking forward to that, at least getting the snow up there because we definitely need it. I know when you were up to Reno there, you were reporting on just very thin amount of snow at the very, very peaks here. So yeah, hopefully we'll get a good report from Mark and we'll have a good, a good snow next week as well as some rain here in the valley.
Speaker C: Yeah, I think if the forecast holds up, I think we're going to have almost 10, 10 days of straight rain and 10 days of snow. So that's good. That's not a bad thing. That's a good thing. I heard you talking to Darren.
Speaker A: I didn't hear the whole conversation.
Speaker C: But you were talking about some of the radios that he runs into when he's out looking for records. It sounds like those might be more antique. You know, the old radios, tube radios, AM radios, antique radios. But I was wondering if Darren's still out there, he must run across used hi fi equipment from the 60s and 70s as well.
Speaker A: Yeah, I gave a break there in case Darren was around. Darren, WW6 def. Are you still on?
Speaker C: Yeah. No, no.
Speaker A: No word from Darren? Yeah, I'm not quite sure. I know that he does look at the, the old, the old tube radios, you know, those things. That's how I met him when he was at the hemp fest last year. But yeah, he does collect the old, the old tube AM radios. And resells those things. So they are. They're quite popular, I guess.
Speaker C: They are. I used to repair those, restore those. I got rid of my collection of those. I got rid of all my tube equipment. I decided it was time to go all solid state. But there is a shop in Grass Valley for people that might be visiting Grass Valley. They might want to check out. If you're interested in stereo equipment from the 60s and 70s, the stuff that you and I used to repair in our youth. It's called the clock tower records and it's a great record store as well. In fact, I told Aaron to go up there and check that out because they got a huge collection of records as well as fantastic collection of old posters from concerts out of the 60s and 70s on the walls. It's just fun going there and relive your youth, I guess. And look at all that stuff they have in there. But in the back they have a confinement area where people can bring in their old turntables, stereo gear. They used to do some repairs in there. I don't know if they have anybody that really is qualified to repair that equipment anymore. But they do take equipment on consignment. And a few weeks ago when I was in there, they had a couple really nice Marantz stereos that, you know, they're solid state. They're the Marantz equipment. Oh, from the early 70s. Really nice units. They appeared to be in good shape. I couldn't operate them, I couldn't actually test them. But their prices were pretty reasonable too. That stuff tends to go for a pretty good price these days.
Speaker A: Who would. Who would have known why? I'm sure. Yeah, a lot of that stuff is just kind of donated and maybe even trashed because a lot of people don't know. There's some value to that.
Speaker C: But interesting.
Speaker A: Yeah, so nice to hear that. There is a Clock tower records in Grass Valley that's dealing with that stuff. You kind of wonder. They must have enough business to keep going because that seem like that would be a very niche market.
Speaker C: It's a niche market, but they've made it work. Every time I've gone in there on the weekend or during the week. They've had a steady stream of people, steady traffic going in there. If you're looking for a record. I know Darren's doing the same thing with his business. They know the records, they know when they were produced. They know the condition. Same thing with the stereo equipment. They actually are selling some brand new records because records are coming back to a certain degree and they also sell a lot of used CDs if people are interested in CDs instead of records. Interesting. You probably remember the dishwasher system. I think the brand name was actually dishwasher, where you had the little brush and you had the fluid and you'd put it on the record and you'd scrub the record before you'd actually play it. That's still manufactured. They actually have brand new dishwasher systems in there for sale.
Speaker A: Well, that's interesting. Yeah, I remember they used to sell a lot of different products and stuff for cleaning up your records and doing all that stuff. And even some people recommend soap and water, but not sure that's the best thing, especially when you might get it on the label. But. Yeah, I remember going into a Barnes and Noble bookstore a couple weeks ago and they were selling brand new records there and I was looking at the price and the price is crazy. It's like $30 for a piece of vinyl. Things that I used to. Used to buy for maybe 99 cents in the discount bin. Walgreens and maybe the actual wrecks themselves were around $5. So it's. Yeah, things have definitely increased. I guess there's a demand for it, though.
Speaker C: There definitely is a demand. There still are people out there. There's still a controversy over the sound difference between digital and vinyl analog. There's people that swear they tell a difference in the sound. There is a difference in the sound, but is it better? I don't know. I would argue it might not be better, but the same thing with a vacuum tube amp versus a transistor amp. You know, I've known a lot of audiophiles that swear that they can tell the difference in sound. And it may be they like the sound that vacuum tubes do over the transistors. But that argument, I don't always amused me to certain extent because you get to a point where, you know, total harmonic distortion of.001. I don't think the human ear is going to pick out the difference in that. Anyway, I'm going to let you move on.
Speaker A: I just.
Speaker C: The conversation you have with Darren kind of triggered those thoughts in my mind because I have a soft spot for audio equipment because I used to sell it and I used to repair it, so got fond memories of that. Anyway, Tom, have a great day. Everyone else, have a great day and I look forward to seeing Tom. Are you going to be at the meeting tonight?
Speaker A: Plan to be at the meeting, but I'm. I'm just getting over a cold here and I'M not sure that I want to come and expose people to what I have. I'm not sure. I mean I'm feeling okay but you know I think in my by talking this morning I can that it's definitely not has gone away. So I guess I'm kind of teeter totting not sure if I should come or not.
Speaker C: Well if you're not contagious and you're feeling up to it it'd be good to see you. Anyway with that look forward to seeing many of the members tonight at our new location meeting location with that 73 Casey.
Speaker A: Very good. Yeah, no I would definitely like like to be there. Yeah. Tonight at 7:30 we are going to open up our brand new location the Placer County HHS Conference center for our club meeting. So and that's off of Bell road in Highway 80. So that's going to be a. Yeah a beautiful facility there with great audio visual. So yeah definitely would like to be there and maybe I will if I can maybe isolate myself or make sure that I'm not contagious. But anyway, Yep that's tonight 7:30 we're also going to have a presentation about
Speaker D: mesh.
Speaker A: I can't lose my mind here about the mesh system which will be very very good to see from Jeff there.
Speaker C: So looking forward to that.
Speaker E: Yeah meshes.
Speaker A: Yeah mesh system by Jeff N5JEF tonight. So mesh core, that's what it is, mesh core.
Speaker C: So very good.
Speaker A: Well so hopefully we'll maybe we will see tonight and see everybody else there at the meeting at 7:30. Anyway thanks Graydon for that and yeah I used to also repair the radio station, the audio stuff and not, not the high end Marantz stuff but more of the consumer type grade stuff and that was it's always interesting to see especially the debate between the transformers versus transistors and tubes versus transistors 7.3 and you take care there. So clearing with Graydon that K2 success heavily. Let's go to Sam back in Denver, K4 LGI. Good morning Sam. K4lgi and then 6h for the coffee breaknet. Good morning Tom.
Speaker D: Sorry there had screen change so I didn't realize I'm on the phone here. Pretty fine day here in Denver. About 40 some everybody's sounding great. There was one person a little bit
Speaker A: pretty hot came on here.
Speaker D: I'm sure he's got it adjusted. Not too much here. Just thinking about this FRS and other systems and that kidnapping down there how they just kept going from door to door looking for recordings and maybe ham radio or something, FRS or something could gap into some type of security camera thing where they could maybe get two hand units with one in the window, front window or something and so people could activate it. Anyway, it's unfortunate they had no recordings of anything. Not too much from here, Tom. And so we'd like to wish everybody the best of TGIF number 13 be
Speaker C: there is a happy way to go
Speaker D: with it but hopefully it'll be just fine. Have a nice day. Katie for lgi.
Speaker A: Hey Sam.
Speaker C: Pretty good?
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker A: Today is Friday the 13th so hopefully if you're not superstitious and yeah, hopefully it'll be a good day. All right, well thanks, thanks for checking in there, Sam. We got you in the log in. Yeah. You have a nice day there back in Denver.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker A: Here in Discovery Bay. So very similar. All right, that's a clearing with K4LGI. Next I have Anna, KD3AJN. Good morning Anna. What do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker F: Good morning Tom and everyone else on the net today. Just wanted to drop by and say hello and I'm going out to visit my grandchildren this weekend. My grandson's birthday was yesterday and we're having a party for him tonight. He turned 16 and other than that, not too much else going on. Everyone have a very nice weekend and I will talk to you later. 8am.
Speaker A: All right. Well happy birthday to your grandson. Sixteen, that's, that's a great age to turn there and so enjoy the birthday party for, for him and enjoy that and enjoy visiting your grand grandkids. All right Anna, thank you for checking in. So clearing with KD3AJN. Next I have Brett, KB6 and Luv. Good morning Brett.
Speaker E: Good morning Tom. And Coffee Breaknet. Thanks for being there by the way. Appreciate you Net control operators. It is a beautiful Friday morning here in South Natomas. There is a orange ball in the sky and man, I'm going to enjoy that sunshine. Probably get out and scoot around on Little Red for a quick one. Other than that I'm going to ask how are you doing before I have
Speaker D: some other folks that are going to say hello.
Speaker A: I'm, I'm hanging in there getting over a cold so you know, I haven't talked for a while so I'm definitely trying to make sure that that all works. So but anyway, thanks for asking and if anyway back to you.
Speaker E: Well, I hope that cold gets better. I'll tell you, Vitamin C, lots of liquids and if you have honey, local honey, that's the best. Anyway, national days Meh. Today's day, actually, I've got one that tops them all. Today is February 13th, which is my wife's and my anniversary. We are celebrating 26 years together and 23 married. So happy anniversary to my wife who is sitting here with me. And then also sitting with me is direct and live from Newton, Kansas, my mom, Bonnie. Gonna take a quick break. Hold on. And yeah, here she is. Good morning.
Speaker F: Good morning.
Speaker A: Well, good morning to Bonnie and to your wife there. I don't know her name, so maybe you can pass that along. And Congratulations on your 26 years together and 23 years married on your anniversary. So congratulations. Thank you very much, deeply appreciated.
Speaker E: Yes, my wife and I are highly blessed. Her name is Dede, by the way. And yes, it's. What a wonderful thing to be able to be married to your best friend and get to spend so much time going through life doing that together. So. All right, well, not a whole lot else going on here today. Again, it's going to be a great, great Friday here in South Natomas. I'm going to enjoy this last day of sunshine before the weather rolls in. But yeah, we definitely need the rain around these parts. So as Larry would say, Ko6ij letting down them hatches, letting down everything. Rain's coming. Be safe. And thank you very much again, Tom. Hope your cold gets better. And with that I will say, take
Speaker A: care of yourself, take care of each other.
Speaker E: KB6L U V you have love 73 clear and listening.
Speaker C: All right, Brad.
Speaker A: Yeah. KB6 luv and then 6H for the coffee breaknet. Well 73 and happy anniversary to, to yourself and to Editi. And also hello to your mom Bonnie there and welcome to California. Yeah, I guess welcome to a nice storm there coming through here next week here. But anyway, take care and you have a great day and good to hear from you and thanks for checking in. And again, happy anniversary. All right, last on my list here is Ray KK 6am Good morning, Ray.
Speaker B: Good morning. How can it be World Radio Day? World Radio closed down in the late 70s.
Speaker A: Well, it's just a national day, World Radio Day that they. Let's see, what was the going to the information on it. World Radio Day, I think it was actually proposed in Spain. Let me get the details coming up here. World Radio day. Yeah, it's February 13th. It says it was proposed by Spain in September 2010 with the backing from the Broadcasting association and talks about it. Yeah, anyway, so there's this National Radio Day. So that's what it is.
Speaker B: Oh, I was thinking of World Radio Labs in Council of Siowa. In fact, that's where I took my
Speaker E: first
Speaker B: FCC test, because they'd send the testers up from Kansas City and give them every six months, I think.
Speaker A: Well, this one's a different day. Just National World Radio Day, just celebrating radio broadcast radio. So we'll kind of take that radio and say that it also includes us, too.
Speaker B: Okay. I probably went over everybody's head, is that. I guess we've got some people here that would remember, but I guess I went over everybody's head. Other than that, not much to say today. I'm tired, so. 73 KK 6am.
Speaker A: Okay. Well, I hope that you can gain some strength there. Are you going to be heading to the meeting tonight to see the new location?
Speaker B: Probably not, because I'm.
Speaker A: Just, well, I fall asleep or fall apart before the meeting would be over actually by the time I was starting.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker C: Yeah, I definitely understand that. Yeah. So we're gonna, I'm hoping that I can get there, but again, I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to make it myself. But it is gonna be a nice, nice venue there to check out. It's our, the first time in our new place here right off of Bell Road in Auburn, California at the HHS Center. And if nothing else, you should check out the Zoom. You go to w6zk.org and click on the video thing on the upper right and check out the Zoom room there. Starting at 7:30 is when the meeting starts.
Speaker D: But I'm sure the doors open around
Speaker C: 7 o' clock there. All right, very good. Well I hope you can make it there, Ray, and maybe check out what we have there. So anything else for the net this morning?
Speaker A: Only in that I don't go to the W6CK page. I open Zoom and join meeting and select SFARC meetings and I get right where I want to be. Anyway, that's, that's about it. 73 KK 6am.
Speaker C: All right, Ray, well I hope you're feeling better and you take care there. All right. Good to hear from you. Clearing with KK6am So this is the coffee break net here on the W6ek repeater. I mentioned a few things we have. So we have, we definitely have the club meeting coming up tonight, 7:30 and if you're going to be there in person, like you to bring some food for the food bank. So continue that, that we're doing for the Pasha County Food bank and they're looking for I guess snacks for kids or for things for kids lunches.
Speaker D: I guess they pack a bunch of
Speaker C: lunches for kids and snack bowls and those type of things. And also maybe cereal is what they're kind of looking for. So things like that that you'd pack in a child's lunch would be great to bring if you're coming in person to the meeting tonight. Again, it starts at 7:30. It is off of I80 and Bell Road exit. And it's going to be a great new facility for audio and visual systems there. It should help we make the Zoom part of it much better too. We're going to have a presentation on mesh systems by N5Jef Jeff mesh core system discussion. And we have one already installed at the repeater site in the vault, the W60K repeater that we're kind of working on. So that's timely for that. So check, check that out tonight. Then we also have the monthly breakfast which is always the last Saturday of the month. This will be February 28th, 7:30 at Mills Diner, Highway 49. And then that'll be followed by a Fox Hunt 9:00am in Mills parking lot and Marty Ko6GXX will be the foxtender for that. So again that's February 28th will be the the breakfast and fox hunt. Then I mentioned before we have the Loomis Ham fest. That's going to be the March 28, March 28 7am for buyers, 6am for sellers and that's always a great event. That's in Loomis, California and I think that's the first, the first ham fest of the year in Northern California to loom Hempfest. So join us for that. It's always a fun event there. All right, let me go ahead here and open up for more check ins for the coffee breakdown. I am Tom November, November 6th Hotel and struck me along here with with ending my cold and be able to talk. But hopefully everything is going to go okay for until 10 o'.
Speaker B: Clock.
Speaker C: But I'll take check ins here. I'll take Ragchu and if you want to be an in and out let me know and I'll put you at the top. So who's there for check ins on the coffee break net?
Speaker D: Good morning tom.
Speaker C: Kb6ssn
Speaker B: hey n9 9 you tom. Put me in for a quick some quick weather information if you could please and I'll get out of your hair. Wb6bj. Ko6th Good morning.
Speaker C: Okay, this is who I have. I have have greg a06th I have n9 muf and I got wb6bjn and I got the kb6ssn. Anybody else that I'm missing from the group november 6th fox, mike, delta, jimmy. Okay, Jimmy, got you there. N6M FMD got you there. All right. And Mark, are you okay following Tom on the in the lineup here?
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, that'll work right after Tom sounds good. I'll. I just need to be you know got a net coming up close to 11:30 and I think we'll make it just fine. That sounds good.
Speaker C: Oh yeah, you got plenty of time there almost an hour away. All right, very good. Well let me go ahead with this this group here. So let me go to the top here. Go to Tom. KV6SSN. Good morning Tom. What do you have?
Speaker D: Well, Good morning Tom. KB6SSN Tom here and good morning to the net. Beautiful blue skies this morning was about 39 degrees when I woke up this morning. I woke up early and then I went back to bed. I didn't have anything to do, so I slept in till about seven and it was 39 when I woke up then. So it's a little bit chilly, but yeah, not bad at all. It's a beautiful go do it day today. And I think today's Friday because you're on the air. So we'll assume it's a Friday and we'll run with that. Larry and I have been having an awful lot of fun with the radios out at his place out there. And we've been posting videos of the radios up on YouTube. We decided to include ourselves in a video, not just the radios. And the darn thing has almost gone viral on us. We've got thousands of hits off a video of just a couple of clowns standing around pointing at a speaker. So if that sells on YouTube, then anything will sell on YouTube. If you completely waste three minutes of your life. Go check it out at Confederates on one. And yes, I am looking very much forward to the ham fest coming up in March down in Loomis. I have a proposition for you folks out there that will be bringing equipment to the ham fest. You bring interesting stuff and I'll bring money. We'll make a deal.
Speaker C: KB6SSN. Okay, very good there, Tom. Yeah. WB6SSN or KB6SSN and then 6H. Yeah, very good. Well, I did check out your video on your, I guess your channel on YouTube. And yeah, it's interesting. It's like you said, it's not really a polished type of thing, but it does have some attraction to it. And I thought it was basically when I was going there, looking at, I think the first couple videos you had there, it was interesting. I mean, basically you turn the radio on and you're hearing different contacts and stuff. And I think that maybe have an appeal to people that like to listen to radios. Maybe they don't have a radio of their own and be able to actually have something that's kind of uninterrupted and stuff. So, yeah, I definitely could see the appeal to that. And looking at some of the older radios, they're doing pretty good, you know, video job there too, just showing the different radios and stuff. I guess my only complaint would be when I watched the first one, and that was. That was pretty good. The second one, you guys kind of changed it to the. The vertical format, which is more of the tick tock Format, I guess. And that's not so good there for showing radios, especially when you're on show lots of it and stuff, instead of having to pan the camera around. So that would be my only criticism, but otherwise I thought it was pretty good.
Speaker D: Well, interestingly enough, Tom, I have the same criticism of the same videos. Well, it. It initially started because I filmed or filmed. I videoed the entire thing. It shows how old we are filmed. Anyway, I videoed the entire thing in landscape mode so I could get in the entire stretch of equipment that was out on the table. And then when I uploaded it, it uploaded itself as a short, which does it in portrait mode, which cropped off 80% of the landscape mode on either side of the picture. So it kind of looks like those first few videos. It looks like you're looking at the radios through a keyhole. To compensate for that, I put together a compilation video that was of all of the landscape videos into a long regular video and posted that. So you can see that without the keyhole effect and then every video moving forward from there. Yes, we have videoed in the portrait mode because that's the way that the YouTube likes it, effectively for their shorts. They like it in portrait mode. So the shorts appear to get a lot more hits than the videos do, the longer videos. So we did learn, as we're going along, we found out that if we post a radio just doing its thing, we get somewhere between 500 and 1,000 hits. And that's pretty good, I think, considering that my last YouTube video was a family video that got nine hits. So there you go. When we added Larry to the equation, that went up from about a thousand to two thousand hits. Larry sitting there working on the radios or talking on the radios, that kind of thing. When we added both of us and added lab coats. Yeah, now we've got 4,000 hits and growing on the last video. So we're learning as we're going along here. And it's the strangest things that seem to make a difference. So gay lab coats, any case, if any of this interests you, if you have some time to kiss until it's on one on YouTube that is just a compilation of really bad videos or really great radios. The radios are the stars. And if you're interested in that kind of thing, go check it out. We don't make any money off of this. These are not monetized. There's no remunerations taking place here. We just use this for fun. It's part of our. One of the facets of the hobby that we enjoy. So we're, we're working that angle. So in any case, yeah, I don't know, we went with lab coats. We may have to go with safety glasses and hair nets next. I'm not sure.
Speaker C: Okay, Tom, just kind of FYI, your audio there towards the end got almost down to non existent. I had to pull the, the speaker up to my ear to actually hear from it. So I'm not sure what's going on on your side there, but your audio just kind of slowly faded down to almost, almost nothing and almost like a whisper. But I did get the information there, yeah, using lab coats. So, you know, maybe what you need to do going forward there is blow things up. I think, you know, you mentioned about, you know, adding yourself and adding Larry and adding lab coats. You know, each thing kind of increased your number of views. Maybe you blow things up, you know, maybe after, you know, the radios, you know, you know, go ahead and then, you know, kind of expectantly you're just going to blow them up and then that might bring you all the views you want there. But anyway, yeah, and it's interesting that the YouTube TV or YouTube wants to do the thing, the shorts as a portrait that maybe that's kind of the, the tick tock influence on that stuff stuff there. But yeah, I didn't realize that that
Speaker D: was what was happening.
Speaker C: All right, well back to you there for a short, I guess rebuttal or come back and we'll see if your audio is any better. KV6SSN and N6H.
Speaker D: I cleaned the plug while you were talking there, Tom. Is this better
Speaker B: now?
Speaker D: Much better. There we go. In any case, I was saying that perhaps we should add safety glasses and hair nets or something.
Speaker C: I don't know.
Speaker D: Every time we add something now, the blowing up the radios, that's not going to happen. You know, there are a lot of YouTube channels I watch. One of them is a crazy guy named Scott from Kentucky, has this gut channel called Kentucky Ballistics. And one of the things he does is he tests weapons to failure. And yeah, I've written him several letters about you gotta quit doing that because it's just wrong. And yeah, I'm not gonna blow up any radios. I like the radios way, way too much. On the other hand, we may have a segment where we start torturing radio operators. That might be a whole different story. I don't know if what the rules on YouTube are about waterboarding, you know, operators to get them to comply, but I guess we can find out.
Speaker C: Yeah, you may Be pushing the rules a little bit there. Well, yeah, or blowing up or blending, you know, that you can't blend radials, I guess, you know, in the blender. That would be tough anyway. Well, very good. Well, maybe you've, you know, you can kind of change the algorithm around, maybe find out what actually sells there. But. Yeah, very good. Well, I mean, I thought to me it was just interesting to look at the older radios. I mean, all that stuff, you know, I grew up with and a lot of the radios I wish I could purchase, unfortunately, all I could get was like, you know, the heath kit type stuff radios that I had and those things were used, so. But very good. Well, good luck with your, your newfound fame, you and Larry and. Yeah, maybe I'll check out Confederate Sun Son 1 on YouTube. So very good. Thanks for, for doing that. KB6SSN and N6H.
Speaker D: Have a wonderful morning, Tom, and thanks so much for running the net today. Look forward to Mark's weather report coming up here. I hear we're supposed to get some snow in the mountains. That would be nice. Not that I have any affinity for snow, but I like water in the
Speaker C: summertime and I hear their connection.
Speaker D: He'll tell us all about it, I'm sure. KB6 SSM73.
Speaker C: Bring it there, Tom. And thanks for the segue into Mark's weather report. You take care and have fun. KB6SSN and N6H. All right, we're going to Tennessee. Mark, WB6BJN, tell us about our upcoming storms here. Impossible snow.
Speaker B: Not possible. Probable. Good morning, Tom. Possible would be lower than probable. In fact, I'm going to say likely. Almost a sure bet. You're gonna get some snow. Good morning to you. Good morning, Tom. Good morning, everybody. Good morning, Tom. And Tom ssn. Tom there, too. And you, Tom, and all the other Toms that are on here and other people as well. Good morning to Brett. Good morning to Bonnie. Good morning to Dee Dee and happy anniversary there. Brett to you and Dede. And good to hear Bonnie on there from Kansas where it's warm since she's left, it's gotten warmer by the time she gets back. It might be colder. Who knows, but we'll try to keep it warm. Let me take a break here. Friday the 13th. Yeah, I'm not. It's just another day like the 12th. Not superstitious at all. And Valentine's Day. Maybe I'll take Sarah out to lunch tomorrow. We don't have a whole lot planned. I thought about taking her out for lunch and that'll probably about do it. So we're, we're easy on Valentine's Day. So Tom over there to you for a quick second, then we'll talk about the weather.
Speaker C: Okay, Mark. Well, not much here. Just looking, looking forward to what we have coming up here storm wise. And I know a lot of people are interested in what you have to say about what's coming up next week. So WB6BJN and N6H.
Speaker B: Okay. Well, the weather pattern, and you've probably heard me say this has taken a flip, a complete flip in the weather pattern. And I'm going to give my conditions here real quick just to show you what's going on. And I need to turn a radio down because it sounds like it's feedbacking just a little bit. There we go. Let's see 50, it's currently 30.2, 6.4 on the barometer and it is steady. Temperature 51.3 degrees and the dew point is 30. So it's fairly dry. Humidity is about 53ft, 44% on the humidity. So that's low. One gusting to 11, one gusting to 11 from the southeast on the wind and it's already 51 over 51 degrees. Now compare that to last week when I think a week ago today I was talking about temperatures that were still in the teens this hour, even here in Tennessee. So, yeah, the weather pattern has taken a flip and we got to look to the west coast for that because what happened, you guys were under high pressure. That high pressure has now moved eastward and is covering the middle, southern and part of the eastern parts of the United States with warmer temperatures. Now let me take.
Speaker A: A break. Now, warm, warmer means that some of the places further north, like into Michigan is still cool. If you get up into Maine, it's cold, Minnesota's cold. It's in the 20s and 30s, but that's still a lot warmer because last week it was in the single digits. Some places were below zero, some places had wind chills that were 25 and 30 below. So it is much better. And there's no snow expected anywhere in the Midwest for the weekend. In fact, in Michigan it'll actually be pretty nice. They won't get any precip until the middle part of the week. There is a low pressure way to the north, one that's going to affect us here in Tennessee to the south and that's going to pretty much take care of when we're going to get rain. Now California, you guys are going to get a boatload of rain and a boatload of snow in the Sierras. In fact, it's going to start late tomorrow going into Sunday, especially Sunday, all the way through about next Thursday. There will be some breaks but not much. And it's going to get colder. Let me take a break. We're looking at at least 2 to 4ft of snow in the Sierras from a multitude of systems. And there could be anywhere from 2, maybe 1 to 3, maybe even 4 inches of rain in the valley and maybe 4 to 6 inches in the higher elevations of the foothills. And there could even be snow that gets down to the upper foothills about 2,800ft. And this is because of multiple low pressure areas that are going to phase together along the coast. One of them is actually coming out of northern Alaska almost at the Arctic. So the polar vortex which affects affected the east is now sort of affecting the west. And we're under this high pressure area that covers the east. But some of this weather from the west is coming eastward and that's what's going to bring us a couple inches of rain. Some thunderstorms. Texas and Oklahoma are going to have thunderstorms. Much of the mid south is going to be unsettled with rain this weekend. And then next week it's going to get just downright warm. 60s, 70s and even parts of southern Texas could get into the upper 80s. And they said something about the Rio Grande Valley of Texas getting into the low 90s next week. That's crazy. Let me take another break. But Ryan Hall, Ryan Hall, y', all, if you want to go check him out, he's@ryanhall.com and quite a weather guy. He says do not be fooled by the weather pattern that we have now because that pattern will take a minute, another flip in about 14 or 15 days. Now we don't know the particulars on it, but he says another cold blast for the Midwest, the mid south and the East. And after about 14 days, guess what, you guys get high pressure back and it goes right back to what it was after what happens for next week. And the next 10 days will be probably wet, but high pressure could start building in to the west again in the eight to 14 day outlook. But that's still out in fairy tale land, so we won't worry about it for a while there. Tom. So some good rain and good snow for the valley and the Sierras and the coastal areas for the next at least seven days. Back to you sir. WV6DJ.
Speaker B: Okay, mark. Mark yeah. WV6 and then 6H for the coffee break net. Yeah, well you mentioned 90 degrees. I mean that, that seems unheard of there have a temperature like that, almost like an outlier there. Well, yep, I guess we will definitely look forward to the rain and account for that. Like we're going to have a pretty, pretty steady set of storms coming through and also snow, which we can definitely use. Very good. Well, thank you for bringing that to us and giving us that warning. And so you think that the timing of this thing will start around Sunday? Is that what you were saying?
Speaker A: Okay, I just got a thing on YouTube that says this winter storm just got bigger and I think I'm gonna go read that off of YouTube later. Yeah, Sunday is today and tomorrow you guys are under a weak ridge, what we call a transitory. Shortwave ridge of high pressure. And that came in yesterday behind the front that you had the other day that dropped a little bit of rain and then once that's already starting to break down. In fact, the barometers were lower today than they were yesterday. So things are already starting to progress eastward. That high is going to leave and there could be some rain as early as tomorrow night. But more likely the heavy stuff starts Sunday, late Sunday and especially Sunday night through next Thursday. That's pretty much what's going to happen. There could be thunderstorms, there could be lots of snow in the Sierras, strong gusty winds and just periods of waves of wet weather through the middle and right up through Thursday. And that 90s in the Rio Grande Valley is not an outlier. That is, there's more than one model agreement on that. And lots of Texas has already been in the 80s already and parts of Oklahoma and they're going to have some severe weather. We're under what they call false spring right now. So it is coming to truth as that warm, moist southerly wind pull up out of the Gulf. And if any of that stuff gets back here, we watch for some severe weather. Back to you, Tom. WB6BJ.
Speaker B: Okay, very good. Well, it seems like definitely things are changing and so looking, looking forward to that and looking, yeah, we definitely need the, the snowpack up here. And I know Mary up in Eugene, Oregon, there was talking about that they need that too. So hopefully that's a West coast event here. All right, very good. Well, anything else that you have for the, for the net this morning? WB6BJN and then six inch.
Speaker A: Yeah, you know, Tom, it's amazing and I, people, people used to ask me how come you follow weather all over the nation and what's so what, what's the big deal about how this weather, you know, why do you, why do, why do you follow that? And my thing is, is these patterns are all connected. You know, what happens on the west coast affects what happens in the Midwest and East. They're all interconnected in many ways. And so that's what makes it real. That's what makes it real interesting. And we've had the flip in the pattern and amazingly warm temp, warmer temperatures. We went from almost dangerous cold to wearing shorts and flip flops. We were in the 70s here the other day. So it's crazy. All right, Tom, I hope you have a great weekend. I hope everybody has a great week weekend. Have good Valentine's Day. Congratulations to Brett and Dede there on their anniversary and hi to Bonnie again too there. Tom, everybody, have a blessed day and we'll talk to you guys next week. WB6BJ. All right, Mark.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker B: WB6BJN NN6H for the coffee rig net. Okay, well, 7:3 to you. Thank you for giving us the weather report and you and Sarah, have a nice Valentine's Day tomorrow and take care there. And thanks for giving us the update. All right, clearing with Mark WV6PJN next. Going to Daniel N9MUF Good morning, Daniel. What do you have for the net or I go on because it's, yeah, it's still morning there. Good morning.
Speaker C: It is very definitely still morning. It's sunny, good weather. Hopefully good weather on Monday for the pota. We're making plans for that already. So we'll see about that. It's been a, it's been one of those mornings. Just managed to get the meds all laid out for the next couple of weeks and support of little Miss Taffety Bonk, AKA the Four Weasel, deciding she wanted to play with all the nice little toys. So that was an interesting half hour.
Speaker B: Okay. Well, I guess, yeah. Trying to herd cats, right. Anyway, hopefully all that's set up and I guess you have. You're doing what, a presentation or teaching this this weekend?
Speaker C: Yep, just been working on getting all the gear there. I've got two classes that'll be. I'll be teaching, I'll be teaching the extra class, chapter 8 on modulation and digital. You know, in depth digital dive and slow scan and fast scan tv. And then what I'm getting all the gear together for is a hands on present into the tech class. Just talking about, you know, the smartphone can be a very useful amateur radio accessory. You can get on the air either cheaply or freely. And trying to give people, you know, if they're kind of going, well, I'm not sure I want to spend money right away showing them ways that they can get into the hobby. I'm not saying don't spend money, but just, you know, here are thoughtful paths if you do decide to spend money. So talking about hotspots, talking about radios and just, you know, the pluses and minuses of buying certain things.
Speaker B: What's kind of interesting about that as you're talking about using cell phones and phones and all that stuff, you know, when I talk to people about why they should get into amateur radio, I said because, you know, the emergency happens, you're not going to have self service, you're not going to be able to, you know, get on the Internet on your phone and that radio is going to be the only thing. But then now when you're kind of doing this thing like saying, well, you can use your phone for doing radio stuff. Yeah. Anyway, I can definitely see the difference there, especially in emergency situations.
Speaker C: Oh, absolutely agree. But at the same time I see so many of these techs get into the idea that they're going to talk to the entire world with a 2 meter radio, 2 meter talking just to the repeater and then they're frustrated when they feel like they've been sold a bunch of hui. And it's not really the tech's fault in my opinion. I think a lot of it is just, just poor messaging or poor clarification on what the bands that are available to them. Unless they learn CW, of course, what those bands can actually do just with radio and then talk, you know, when you start talking about things like DMR and dstar and All Echo Link. Then suddenly the world opens up to them.
Speaker B: That's true, but maybe also not everybody wants to talk around the world. You know, just the fact of being able to talk, you know, I could listen to the, the Coffee breaknet for example, just kind of have that type of stuff. The Coffee breaknet to me kind of reminds me a lot like, like local, local talk radio, you know, when I used it in the day. But I would just tune in just to hear different conversations and stuff. Like you kind of learn things. Well, kind of the same way with the, the Coffee Brick Net.
Speaker C: Oh, absolutely, agreed. But you know, I'm coming into the All Star, into the Coffee breaknet with my mic and All Star and you know, and pointing out to people that hey, they can join All Star nets or nets that are on All Star or Echo Link as well as the local repeater. And that expands the footprint and makes the footprint more affordable. We always, I always wind up having to talk to some parents because it's the, well, gee, how much is this going to cost me? Especially if they don't, if they're not interested and I talk about a gradated path to spending money so they're not investing a bunch of stuff up front for the child that has attended, you know, child's attention spans sometimes don't stick around and sometimes they do and it's, you know, hey, don't go out and buy a $500 HD if you're worried about that. But here is a way to get them on the air more afford.
Speaker B: And I'm sure peer pressure and you know, having their friends having a radio and you know, being able to have that helps because I know when I was in high school and stuff, you know, that was always a key thing for me having some friends that I knew that actually were involved with that and you know, we could discuss all that stuff and kind of share radios back and forth and just what we're doing there. So that's always a good part of it too.
Speaker C: And just giving people some hands on. So talking about again dstar, the various types of reflectors, talking about dmr, talking about Brandmeister and TGIF and letting people know, hey, here are some of the options if you want to do this and I'll talk about radios as well. And one of the things I'm going to encourage them is I have a problem with buying radios if you're just starting out over Amazon. I remember when I bought my first radio there was an amateur radio, toys an amateur radio store here in the Chicagoland. And the good thing about it is if I had questions, I could walk in there and ask them. When I bought my DMR radio from Ridgecom, they had that nice little course. There was an issue with it. I had some trouble with reprogramming the radio and somebody was taking the time to come on onto the Zoom session so we could go over it. I figured it out on my own, so I canceled it. But again, oftentimes that customer support is there. If you buy from a reputable dealer as opposed to just buying off of Amazon.
Speaker A: That is.
Speaker B: That is very true. Or being involved with a club like, you know, W6CK, the Sierra Fidelis Amateur Radio Club, where we have Elmer's and stuff. And, you know, there's. There's people that can. That can help out, which is always nice, especially in being able to at least have a contact. So, you know, running back. That also helps too. If you have an active club in the area,
Speaker C: It very much does. And it's just talking about those options and talking about those first steps forward and trying to make it more affordable, but also more realistic in terms of, you know, hey, this might be a path that's frustrating. This might be a path that's a little easier, it's a little more expensive, and really opening up all the possibilities to them in a way that they can, I think, more easily take some of those first steps. And also trying to get ahead of the hams who go, well, if you're using your phone, it doesn't count. How many people do we know that check in to the Coffee Breaknet every morning using either repeater phone or DV switch. And I don't think anybody here is going to start telling those people they're not real hands. So I want to get in front of those people, get ahead of those people. With these, hopefully new radio operators,
Speaker B: I think it is a very viable thing. Yeah, we do have a lot of people that do use a DV switch and repeater phone and stuff for All Star, and we do appreciate all those comments. Contacts coming through.
Speaker C: All right.
Speaker B: Pretty good. Well, I think you got your work cut out for you this weekend, so
Speaker C: that should be enjoyable.
Speaker B: So it seems like you're going to have some nice weather, so anything else that you're going to be doing that's enjoyable,
Speaker C: My hope is to hopefully get out on the motorcycles on Sunday. Saturday is going to be music after that. And I'm reserving Monday for a podo with the van family. So hopefully poda and pub and just some good relaxing radio time. So it'll. It'll be a good weekend and I definitely need a bit of a break. I think if the only. The only problem that I'm gonna have is again, the floor weasel is trying to get into absolutely everything. And she sees me using the straight key and she's like, oh, I can tap that too. Please me. Let. Let me tap it. So if I'm operating Morse, she is absolute hanging over my shoulder and trying to swat at the key and play with it as well. So it's going to be an interesting afternoon with that. 7:3 to you in the net. Thank you very much for the net, Tom. N9. N9. MUF.
Speaker B: Okay, very good there, Daniel. Maybe you need to get a straight key straight just for her so she can have her own key to tap on there. Maybe she will give you some good Morse code there. Good practice. All right, you take care there, Daniel, and good luck with your teaching and have a great weekend there. Enjoy.
Speaker A: And thanks for checking in. Always good to talk to you. So clearing with N9 MUF. This is NN6H Tom. This is the coffee breaknet going to Greg K06th. Good morning Greg. What do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker B: Good morning Tom. Good morning everyone. Greg Ko6th Lovely day today. Today is yay, the next club meeting. Looking forward to this. So today is making sure that the software, the equipment is still working. Any updates get installed and checked out and stuff loaded in the car. So I'll be heading out to the new location probably a little bit after five. Getting there a little bit after five and it's almost walking distance from here. Not quite a bit longer than that, but about five minutes away. So that's for me it wasn't the objective on picking the news site but it worked out pretty nice. So anyway and then right now I've got a fixed version of the astronomy club video in the hopper getting re rendered that thing or the intro logo. So that's going to get fixed. And yeah, just checking IDML and stuff. The comment about World Radio
Speaker A: that was
Speaker B: a magazine, the name of magazine some years ago. They're no longer being produced. I actually featured an article I wrote is featured in one of the issues back in the 90s for the April issue. Take a look. I think we reprinted it in our newsletter a couple years ago and yeah, the law of physics that was missed in all of the college courses that we've all taken. There's one that was missed. It's the conservation of wire. Take a look. Ko6th.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, World Radio, I kind of remember that. I think there were. There was a whole bunch of I think swl right shortwave listener type of magazines that were out there. Was that like what the the World Radio was concentrating on?
Speaker B: Yeah, pretty much. It was printed on recycled newsprint I think definitely a notch down in terms of the tiers of magazines. Nothing glossy in it at the very tail end of it. The last section of the the magazine was always an article about antennas and the crazy things that people claim about antennas. Written by a pseudonym I think or a pen name whatever. The thing is. Kurt N. Sturba was the author's name and always good for both a laugh and some reflection on antennas. So that was kind of kind of fun. It was good to see back, you know that article in the back and yeah, a lot of it a lot of articles about just radio in general and they accepted my article for that issue so yay. Anyway, that along with the patents are my Claim to fame for the outside world. My 15 minutes of fame or something. But so busy day today. I gotta get stuff loaded for the car and we'll see you guys tonight. Ko6th.
Speaker A: Okay, very good there, Greg. Well, yeah, definitely we'll check that out. It's around there. All right, very good. And yeah, and thanks for what you do for the club there and on doing doing the video stuff. And tonight the club meeting at the new location at the HHS Conference center off of Bell Road in I80 and then starting at 7:30 and we're going to have a presentation by Jeff and by Jef about mesh core and that'll be interesting to see tonight for that. I know that he's helped set up the mesh core system at the vault W60K repeater vault. So looking forward to that. So tonight 7:30, hopefully people can join us there. And if you can't join in person, you can join on Zoom by going to w60k.org and going to the clicking on the video link up in the upper right hand corner. All right, very good. Well thanks, thanks Greg and maybe we'll see you tonight there. Next up, I guess that's the end of my list. No, I got Jimmy N6, November 6th, Foxtrot Mike Delta. Jimmy. Good morning.
Speaker C: Well, good morning Tom and the Net pretty wore out. I've been working nights so I might be sounding a little groggy. We are gonna come out today. I'm at Brown's Ravine actually now I'm Gonna set up two different antennas and kind of just do a YouTube video over them. I got the G90 and my FT710 kind of show the difference on the receiving sound as well as you can. Can hear it through a GoPro. But talk about the difference between using the multiband chameleon setup versus the PODO performer. Just kind of why I would choose one over the other I guess. I like the PODO performer but sometimes you know, it's raining or whatever and I don't want to get out and have to adjust and retune for each fan. And then been experimenting with this cha 5 to 11 mini. And I also have the micro and a 17 foot width and a 25 foot width. And then I tried 8 and a half to 12 and a half foot even 17 foot radial. I finally found something that works. It definitely doesn't like the old school ground plane raised off the ground type configuration with the 26 radials. Dropped it down to 12 radials. Dropped it down to 8 raised radials with The Chameleon, you know, and have it a 180 or 360 all the way around it. What I found actually works really really
Speaker A: good is
Speaker C: it's going to be two, four. Yeah. So four. I found that four to six radials set up in a going east or whatever direction you want to communicate. Spread out in a nice equal pie. No more than 90 degrees. That's if you are resonant antenna. And I make really good contact. When I had it set up all the other ways, just SWR was fine but I wasn't making contact. As I start dropping the radios off to see if it's making a difference. When I got down to six to eight radials. Even down to the four is the minimum. But six, six seems to be the best. Four seems to work really well. The two, you can't really tell much of a difference by contact, at least in real time. Drop it and putting them back up. So I was really kind of excited about that because now I have an antenna configuration that I don't have to tune and I get really good contacts and good reach compared it next to the photo performer, of course the photo performer. I get a probably S1 to S1 and a half. Sometimes an S2 different. But you know, under. Under the same band conditions I'm making the same contact. So it's not making a difference and making a contact Fact I'll break this. But it works. It works well and you don't have to retune. It's just as easy to set up as a PODA performer. A little more of an investment because of the five to one chameleon. But anyone who's doing lots of podas sometimes you get tired of having to adjust the bands all the time and adjust the whip. And it'd be nice just to have a multi band antenna that performs really well from 20 through 6. And that's what does that trick. But then also talk about the PODO performer and the strength that it has. I get definitely way more DX on the photo performer than I do on the Chameleon. That's probably where it gets the furthest reach. I got Italy and Belgium tried to switch antennas and they say that S unit drop between the photo performer and the Chameleon definitely made a difference to making that contact or not. They go from like a five five down to a four, you know, four, three where they. They're like yeah, I can't hardly hear you. Push back the antenna. And all of a sudden your S units are a tremendous Increase. So DX is takeoff angle probably, I'm not really sure. But DX, the photo performer definitely, definitely works better. But for just local podas and not having to get out and readjust that antenna, you can reach all the way up to Maine and the east coast. So it works well. Anyway, that's. I'm experimenting a little bit more with that, doing a YouTube video for anyone who's looking to get started on photos
Speaker A: and in the field.
Speaker C: And I chose the G90 today because it's a fairly inexpensive radio and it works really, really well. And a lot of times that 20 watt radio will make the same contacts I make on my 891 radio. So I figured I'd just do a, you know, basic entry level. The amount of money that I would want to spend just to make sure that you're gonna have fun and do it. Granted, you can do it on a $150 5 watt radio, but it's not going to be nearly as easy. You're gonna work harder than you would with a 20 watt G90. Anyway. That's, that's what I'm doing this morning.
Speaker A: Okay, very good there, J. You're doing quite a bit of stuff there and you know, a lot of information done back there. So you talk about the, the four to six radios radio and you said you put them in kind of a pie shape in the direction that you want to want the to go. So are these radios, if you're talking about 20 to 6 meters on the thing. So what are, what, what length are the radios cut to? Are they cut to be resonant on any certain band or what is, what is that set up for?
Speaker C: No, I just, I mean I did a little bit of reading and research, but what I ended up doing was just kept cutting and changing until I found something that works. What I found works is 12 and a half foot radials, anywhere from four to six and no more. And then the deformation is pretty much just like, you know, the photo performer. You do a 90 degree angle on your outside angle and then all you're doing is filling in those other radials is a pie shape. It does not like just your radial. So it definitely doesn't operate or propagate the same way as the PODO performer. But it does work really well with anywhere from really about six to four. I wouldn't. Eight is kind of. You just don't, you really don't need. There's no difference. Like I said, so 6. I. I prefer to use 6 to 4 depending on how Lazy I am whether I want to put those extra two stakes out or not. And it's, it's the same configuration as a photo performance. Same distance off the ground for your feed point. 17 foot width or 25 foot width. I actually find that those both work the same. It doesn't seem to care if it's a 17 foot or 25 foot with the SWR will fluctuate. But SWR isn't everything as we all know. When I go and check the, the RX value, it's, it's a fairly, you know, it's compromised. It's a fairly resonant antenna. It's not like it's compromised. It's on my long wire or even 29 and a half foot wire that outperforms all those all day long. So yeah, 12 and a half foot, six radials, no more than a 90 degree angle opening. A lot of times I'll narrow that quite a bit and I notice I get a little more gain on receive and send. Just like the podo performer. I get the same results out of po performer but yeah, that's it. 12 and a half foot radial.
Speaker A: Okay, very good. And these 12 and a half foot radials work well for going from 20 to 6 meters. I mean it doesn't matter what band you're on.
Speaker C: Yeah, it does. Performance wise, it does not matter what band I'm on. SWR of course varies, but the resonance, when you look at the bands and you look at what the actual RX and return lot values are, they're really pretty good. So it's. It works well. It works very well. And again, you don't have to retune so yep, it'll, it'll operate from 20 through 6 with no problem. I noticed that 10 meters is probably a little higher on the SWR side, but I have not noticed any kind of like it's not been frustrating to operate on 10 meters at all. It works, works really, really well. So. But yeah, 6 and 10 are probably the worst. You know, we were not talking much over a 2. Everything's usually a 2.5 or lower across the whole.
Speaker A: Very good. Well, I'm sure all this information is great. I mean it's. You're doing a lot there and a lot of experimentation and stuff and.
Speaker C: Very good.
Speaker A: Well, thank you for providing that and have fun today. It's like you're going to have, have fun doing a PODA and kind of doing that video there, so. Sounds very good. I got a nice day for it. N6FMD and N6H.
Speaker C: Yeah, I definitely like operating radio. Still have a lot to learn, that's sure. But there's theory and then there's what works in the field. And I'm starting to learn how to use the antenna modeling. And really for me, all I find is it's a good guideline to kind of maybe give you an idea where not to waste your time and where you can play. But as far as what really happens when the signal leaves the antenna, it's kind of up to the atmosphere sphere of the sun and what's really going on and your ground plane as well. But yeah, learning a lot and learning some practical experience. You know, I've had a lot of naysayers on this configuration. I even talked to Camilan about it. They didn't think it performed very well. They like, they like to just use a single radio. But I just. It just didn't work that well for contacts. I mean, SWR looked great and everything else, but I wasn't making contact. But once I got those four to six radial up there figured out, now I feel like I'm almost by my performer. And that's, that's what I was looking for. A multiband antenna that I can make great contacts and not have to work super hard or get really weak signal reports. And this seems to be the. This seems to be the map. So. But again, it's like everything is guidelines. We have theories, we have hypothesis. But conditions, ground conditions, there's just so many variables. And when you can figure out something that kind of works the. In all those different variables, you stick with it. So yeah, today my favorite antennas that I would recommend a Wolf River Coil. Build your own PODO performer or the Chameleon System. All you really need to do is buy a whip and either the micro. The mini five to one. It's just really convenient to use that whip antennas and quick deployment. So I'm a big fan of that. I don't know. I haven't played much with any of the other delta loopers. Complete failure for me. I put it 30ft in the air, I put it 15ft in the air. I put it on the ground. Absolutely disappointed. Except for invis. If I want to talk to somebody local, that is the delta loop. Tha is the antenna I go with. But if I'm doing poda, I would just stay away from it. I know a lot of people are probably going to hate up on me for that, but that's the reality of what my experience is in the field. It's no fun when you can't make the contacts. And when you got that incentive, Nick's a Wolf river or something else. And you're switching between that antenna tuner. That's real life, real band conditions right here and now. There's no oh bands were better that day than the other. No, we're. We're making a contact with someone who's staying on the radio with you and you're dropping 3s units and then they sometimes don't even come back to you until you switch back to the other attendant. So yeah, Delta loops out of what this is, but that's what it's designed for, so it's not to bash on it. Its intention is not to reach out that far. It's really made for. For emergency communications. Right in your neighborhood being 300, you know, plus miles. Anyway, that's it. Tom, I could talk all day. I love this stuff. Thanks for doing the net this morning and getting me in there. I'll say good morning to everybody and pick up and be back to net control.
Speaker A: Hey, very good there, Jimmy. Well, you have, you have a lot of good practical experience, which is really nice and definitely enjoyed your presentation there at the club. One quick question. I don't mean to belabor this whole conversation, but I think you were looking at the mesh fabric stuff. Did that ever work out for you or you think that the. This whole four to six radios is probably a better situation than doing the mesh.
Speaker C: So what I found, Wilfriver Recoil. Any antenna that's ground mounted or. Yeah, low to the ground, within a foot. You don't need radial. The ferriting cloth works awesome, but when you get above that point, it doesn't work at all. I assume that it's because the electric connection between your. You're just too far above it for it to actually play a role. And that's where you need the radials. And all these radials I'm talking about are all off the ground about three foot or more. Like there's nothing on the ground. These are like counterpoise wires up in the air, per se. I mean, if you use a single, it's more of a counterpoise because it becomes. It's a different. It's more like a secondary. Like a dipole. When you use multiple. I'm finding that it seems to be the patterns or whatever when you run the bottom more like the ground plane. So yeah, Faraday cloth works great for anything low to the ground within a foot. Anything on a little tripod, Wolf River Coil, you know, all those gable. All These different antennas, the JPC12, anything along that line that's below the ground, don't even bother with radials. Throw a Faraday cloth down there, you'll get 40 through 10, even down to 6 with no problem with the Faraday cloth and you get great SWR. Like we're talking a return loss of 23 to 30 depending on where you tune. But I, my SWR is always anywhere from a 1.2 to a 1.02 on a Faraday cloth. When I use ground radio sites, I don't get that I can't get it tuned that I get it tuned well, but not that, not that good. Now we're looking really resonant. So Faraday cloth, JPC 12 Gables, anything a foot off the ground works great. Anything above that, you're going to need to go with some radials. Very good with that.
Speaker A: Practical advice here and you know, very interesting there. So, okay, so the 30 cloth works if you have a ground mounted type of antenna. Okay, very good. Well, you've done the testing and stuff which is really, you know, where it matters. You know, just what actually works, what doesn't work and also being able to switch between the different, the different antennas and two and find out just how it affects on the transmit side of things. Yeah, so I've heard on the delta loop stuff, you know that it's a good receiving antenna, transmitting antenna there. So very interesting. All right, Dane, Jimmy, well, thank you for all that information and also for all the testing and stuff and providing all the patch core information. I really appreciate that. Anyway, back to you there for any, any final and you have a great day there doing your poda and doing your testing N6FMD and N6H.
Speaker B: All right.
Speaker C: Yeah, thanks Tom. Hey, I learned a lot on this, on this coffee breaknet. So I love that you guys do this and I love how successful it is. And boy, we got people from all walks of life in the ham radio as well, well as any kind of technical experience. So a lot wealth of knowledge out there, that's for sure. Well, I'm hoping to make it to the meeting tonight. We'll see how it goes. And I'll just say 73 and keep listening while I'm setting up.
Speaker A: Okay, Jimmy, well thanks again. Thanks for the information there.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker A: And then also I think, I think a lot of people are interested in POTA and doing Montana systems and stuff. So knowing what works like that I think is very useful there. So thanks for all that information and for all the stuff that you.
Speaker A: You share there. All right. And have a great, great podo day there. So clearing with N6FMD. This is Tom and N6H. This is the coffee breaknet here on the W16K repeater all star node 51018 and echo link. And again we've been talking about the club meeting tonight at 7:30 at the HHS Conference Center. This is a new location. It's right off of I 80 and Bell Road in Auburn, California and it's a great facility there. We're going to have a great audio and visual system and hopefully it'll make the zoom part of our presentation better too and also have a great, improved sound system inside the venue. Anyway, tonight we'll have a presentation by Jeff N5JEF. He will be talking about mesh core and we have a mesh core installed at the W16K repeater vault and he'll probably talk about that and also the mesh core system in Gloucester County. So looking forward to that. We have a monthly breakfast coming up which is always the last Saturday of the month, 7:30 at Mills Diner and Highway 49. And then following the breakfast we have the fox hunt. At 9am is a pre meeting in the Mills parking lot. And then 9:30 the fox will be turned on and the fox tender is Kia Ko6GXX. Marty will be the foxtender. So that's going to be February 28th. Then we have the Loomis Ham Fest coming up on March 28th and that'll be in Loomis, California. And that's a big event for the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club. We'll have a lot of volunteers that are out there helping and that'll start at 7am for buyers, 6am for sellers and probably run about half a day. And it's a great, great event there for there'll be drawings going through there, also coffee and donuts and stuff. And it'll just be a great, great time. So that's March 28th, Loomis Ham Fest and we have some VE exams coming up. The Sierra Foothills VE team will be doing their VE exam. They do it Monday of the month, which is going to be March 2, 7pm at the Confluence Church campus in Auburn. And then the Sierra Foothills VE team will be doing theirs Saturday, February 14, 9am at the Raley's Event center on Douglas and Auburn Folsom Boulevard. Then the Folsom VE team will do theirs on Thursday, February 16, 6pm in Folsom, 6pm in Folsom. So if you want to do any of these, go to hamsteady.org hamsteady.org you can sign up for the Sierra Foothills VE Team, the Granite Bay VE Group, and the Folsom VE Team. All right, well, I am Tom N6H. I am your net host here for this. This is a February 13th. And we'll go ahead and take some. Let's do some quick in and outs. We'll do quick in and outs for
Speaker B: the Coffee Breaknet Kilo off and choose.
Speaker A: DYI Larry. KO6IDV. Dan. Hey, Jake, Uniform, Yankee, Jello. Okay, there's a little kerfuffle there, but I got. Got wv6 gui. Joel. I got k06id. I think it's idg dan n2dyi patrick and k06ihj. Larry, I know that there was a. Some doubles there. So come back. Kj 6 zulu hotel chris in granite bay. Hey, tom, just to clarify, that was kilo oscar 6 india delta victor, dan. Okay, very Good there, Dan. KO6IDV. Sorry about that. And I have. I think it's Alpha Juliet, Six Zulu, Hotel, Chris. Okay, so let me go ahead with this and go up to Larry. K06IHJ. Good morning, Larry.
Speaker B: Good morning, Tom.
Speaker A: Good morning, Matt. KO6IHJ.
Speaker C: I was listening.
Speaker A: And Tom. Tom.
Speaker C: I'm gonna call him Dr. Bunsen from the Muppets. I'll be Beekman. And that's our thing. Holidays. Beautiful day out there.
Speaker A: I got some yard work to do
Speaker C: before the rain comes. I'm gonna get that one last mud wind before everything gets foggy and starts growing again. Other than that, it's in the shack. Oh, yeah. I gotta go up there tonight to the meeting. It's gonna be nice to see y' all up there, smiling faces behind the mic. And we were talking about antennas. Well, this one piece of doo doo antenna I got up in the yard
Speaker A: here, it hits 6 through 160. Perfect. So, yeah, I hate this thing.
Speaker C: Hi.
Speaker A: Hi.
Speaker B: I think that antenna has been getting a lot of use here with all
Speaker A: the radios that Tom's been bringing by,
Speaker C: he's still frozen, melting this thing down with the 2kW just to see if
Speaker A: it'll do it, but I think it'll do it.
Speaker C: Well, let me get you. Let me get back to the rest of us people. Busy day. I'm gonna wish everybody a blessed day. Beautiful day out there, guys. Let's do some KO6 ICEJ. Back to you, Tom.
Speaker A: Thanks for running that step three. Okay, Larry, Very good. Well, you have a great day there. And, yeah, maybe we'll we'll see you tonight at the meeting there for our new digs. So very good. Okay, you have a great, great day and you enjoy and enjoy this beautiful day. So clearing with K06IHA next going back to North Carolina. N2DYI Good morning Patrick. Or I guess it's after morning now.
Speaker B: Hey, good morning Tom and everyone on the net. NT or dyi. Yep, it's. Well, it's always morning somewhere and I just woke up about 20 minutes ago. I didn't get to sleep until about 5 in the morning, woke up just a little before noon, so yeah, kind of standard for me this week apparently. Just curious, are you on a different node?
Speaker A: It sounds like you might be.
Speaker B: I've never heard you with a squelch tail before. Yeah, I'm on a different node and
Speaker A: I haven't really have it set up there yet. I have an ASL3 node that I had set up, so that's what I've been using since I. My other node is up in Lincoln. Okay.
Speaker B: Yeah, I thought I heard the typical ASL three tails. There are a couple of them just kind of wondering about that. But that sounds alright.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: Interface and I think It's a Lenovo ThinkCenter. I forget what it is. It's like a Core i5 or something like that. Desktop. So tomorrow we're going to go up to the repeater site and figure out how to program the ESCOM repeater controller they have for their link port. Full duplex link port. I've never messed with an S Com. This is an S7300 controller. So this will be a new adventure kind of thing, I guess.
Speaker A: Yeah, Patrick. Not sure what's going on there, but look like you're. You're not when you're talking. We lost some audio in your node, and then also maybe when you unkeyed there, it was still keying up there. Not sure what's happening.
Speaker B: I don't know. It seemed normal over here. I got the courtesy tone when it dropped and everything, so couldn't tell you.
Speaker C: Okay.
Speaker A: It looked like there was some. Some audio dropouts. So that your audio. Basically, the. The carriers, There was some audio.
Speaker B: What I am is clueless. I mean, that's the general state of my existence anyway, so we'll just continue the theme of cluelessness. I don't have a way to monitor what's being sent from the. From the node, so, like, that never happened. And maybe it'll happen again. That'd be exciting.
Speaker C: Okay, well, let me.
Speaker A: Let me just get a clarification. Can anybody out there tell me if. If Patrick's audio was dropping out during his transmission? Or maybe it's on my side only. Yeah, I lost them too. Okay, so it sounds like other people were losing your audio there too. Okay, thanks. Thanks for responding there. So anyway, Patrick. Yeah, not sure what was going on, but it was. Yeah, just like the audio was just dropping in and out.
Speaker B: What a stupid device. Well, what I will do after this is I will take a sledgehammer to this radio, I will grind the Raspberry PI up into tiny little bits and feed it to a small dog, and then we'll see what happens after that.
Speaker A: That sounds like maybe a YouTube channel that might gain some viewers.
Speaker B: It might, but. Yeah. Anyway, I was just saying. So tomorrow we're going up to a repeater site to deploy an ASL3 node.
Speaker A: Hopefully.
Speaker B: I don't know if it'll actually work,
Speaker A: but
Speaker B: get to figure out how to program an Escom repeater controller. The node part I understand, but I've never messed with an Escom repeater controller before. So the S7300 is what we're playing with there. Figuring out how to do a full duplex link port and updating the firmware, because apparently there's some firmware issues with the old firmware they've got now and how it works with full duplex link ports. So I've got to figure out how to update the firmware and program the port and get everything set up so that they. And they, unlike you guys, they actually want to maintain the ability to switch between analog and digital on this particular YAESU repeater. So got to get all that figured out and then get the node online.
Speaker A: Okay, well, it sounds like be a good challenge for you. I'm sure that you're up to that and learning some new stuff there with that, especially with that new controller there. And by the way, your audio is fine. That last transmission there, so I'm not sure what was going on. So maybe you don't need to destroy the. The radio and the PI just yet.
Speaker D: Ah, darn.
Speaker B: I was kind of looking forward to that. Yeah, I don't know. I didn't change anything. Could just be the Internet connection here that. The connection here has been acting really kind of odd since we had a storm a couple weeks ago. It's not really been right since then, so I don't know.
Speaker A: Yeah, go ahead there, Frank, with your comment. And your audio is way overdriven, by the way.
Speaker E: All right, I'll back off the microphone a little bit here. Hopefully this is better. Yeah, Patrick, it's definitely packet loss. Nothing else about it, Just straight up packet loss on your end when Tom commented on it.
Speaker B: Okay, well, you're. Yeah, you're way overdriven. Even that last transmission was way overdriven. I'm not. I'm not too surprised about the packet loss. I've had a lot of that lately.
Speaker A: Okay, that was weird because Frank came back, but there was no audio coming through, at least on my side of things. Yeah, I didn't think it was packet loss there, Patrick, because your. Your carrier was there. I didn't hear the carrier dropping because of packet loss, just the audio was just absent. I don't know.
Speaker B: I will do some diagnostics here and see if I can see anything interesting, but. It's a node I deployed last week. It's been running pretty okay for the most part, so I don't know.
Speaker A: Oh, well, All right, well, I'm not quite sure. Okay, well, have fun tomorrow with your deploying a new node there and modifying the controller and stuff like that. And we'll talk to you next time, I guess. And thanks for all that you do there for us there. So anything else? I'll put it back to you for any final N2DYI and N6H.
Speaker B: Not much else going on here. We're heading up into the 60s upcoming this week. By about the middle of next week, we'll be right around 70. We got some rain coming in over the weekend and we do need the rain. It's been so dry here lately, it's ridiculous. We've had. It's rare that you see humidity going to like 10% in North Carolina, but that's what we got. Standard for you guys, I guess, but that's a little weird for here. That's all I got. 73 inchoo dyi.
Speaker A: All right, very good. Well, yeah, I think weather is changing over and out and Mark was talking about in the 90s, possibly in the El Paso, Texas area. I mean that's kind of crazy, but yeah, I guess it is what it is. All right, you take care and thanks for, for checking in. Next up I have K06IDV. Dan, good morning. What do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker D: Hey, good morning Tom. Guys wanted to kind of say hi. Don't have a lot of extra.
Speaker A: We have a meeting coming up at
Speaker D: 10, so it will be pretty quick. I did have a question. I was wondering if anyone uses the software that you can get to program the Yaesu FT60 and if that's fairly easy to use and a good thing to have
Speaker C: commented.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'll go ahead and comment here in a second here. So what software are you asking about? Are you talking about the ASUS software or the RT system software?
Speaker D: Yeah, I was asking about the YAESU software in particular, but yeah, if there's a different option, I'm open to that too.
Speaker A: Yeah, the RT systems is actually a paid version. I think it's around $50 for doing that. That's what I've used. Go ahead, comment. Yeah, good morning. KI6 PPF here. As far as an FC60RT systems is your best bet.
Speaker B: Every once in a while your laptop
Speaker A: will have a little trouble recognizing the programming cable, but the software is a piece of cake over. Yeah, I agree. I have an FT65 and FT70 and I use the RT system software for that and that seems to work out well there. Anyway, back to you there, Dan.
Speaker D: Okay, thanks. But Don, did you say that's a subscription though that you pay on a monthly basis or is it a one time thing?
Speaker A: It's just a one time thing. I think it's, I think it's around $49 or something like that. It's just a one time charge for software.
Speaker D: Okay, thanks. So does it come with the cable and everything? And I assume HRO has that?
Speaker A: Yeah, HRO sells that and it does come with the cable. So it comes with their own cable and software.
Speaker D: Okay, thanks.
Speaker A: I'll take a look at that then.
Speaker D: I might swing by today. We're actually headed out on vacation next
Speaker A: week and I might be able to
Speaker D: play around with it a little bit. Thank you very much, Tom. And thank you for the comment.
Speaker A: If you actually go to the HRO website, you can, you can also check to see if they have it in stock or not too, which might save you a trip there. Okay, Dan. Well, good luck with that. Yeah, then that's, that's what I found. Works out well. All right, take care. Next up, let's go to Joel. KB6 GUI. Yeah, KB6WB6 GUI. Sorry, Joel, you still around wb6 gui and n6h. Okay, we probably timed out, joel there. Next up, I have kj6 zulu hotel. Good morning. Kj6zh. Good morning. Chris, are you still there? Okay, I guess we lost Chris there too. All right, that's the end of my list here. So let me go ahead and I'll take more check ins.
Speaker D: We're getting close to 10 o' clock
Speaker A: here, so I'll do just in and outs here going forward here. So in and outs for the coffee break net.
Speaker C: This is Tom, NN 6 inch, W2VX,
Speaker B: Wh6q,
Speaker F: k a3vgm.
Speaker A: Okay, I got this. So I got, I got the k3 vgm. I got wh6q, I got n5tin, got k6dcl and w2vx. Anybody else I'm missing? All right, hearing none. Let me go to the top. Good morning, Doug. W2BX, what do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker C: Good morning Tom and everybody else. What a beautiful day. I'm standing outside and the sun is shining, the sky is blue. And I was listening earlier to the conversation about the PODA performer Antenna. And I looked at. Wasn't overly enthusiastic. But now that I've heard the deets on it, I think I'm gonna have to build me one of them.
Speaker A: Yeah, I've heard some good things about it. And I think Jimmy, actually they did that little presentation at the club meeting one time and talked about that. So. Yeah, that's a nice little antenna. A nice little setup there for portable operation.
Speaker C: Yeah, well, you know, this is an antenna club. I've heard that it's called a radio club, but really I think of it as an antenna club. My grandson is at my house from Texas and he has a couple of FRS radios. There's single channel, one button to push. And he and I have been playing radio guys and he's two and a half and he's talking pretty good. So I think he's gonna. It won't be long and he'll have a license.
Speaker A: Very good. Well, you finally found a radio buddy and somebody who can talk at your Level. So very good. Congratulations.
Speaker B: Yeah, I think he actually outperforms me when it comes to operating the radio
Speaker C: so I'm going to help him with the tech and he can help me
Speaker A: with the radio operation.
Speaker C: Anyway, enough of that fun stuff. He and I are going to go over to the park, we're going to kick a ball around a little bit and I'm going to see if I can borrow the neighbors electric bike that has the ability to put a little kid on the back. And we're gonna go for a ride maybe into the canyon. So everybody else have a safe, pleasant day. Tom, it's always good to hear you on the net and let's catch up. Are you gonna go to the meeting tonight? Are you gonna be in town?
Speaker A: Well, yeah, I wasn't quite. I had planned to be in the meeting tonight but you know, I'm still, I'm getting over a cold here and I'm not sure that I'm. Yeah, I thought I was better further along than I am so I don't want to infect people. So. Yeah, it's kind of iffy whether I'm
Speaker B: going to be there or not.
Speaker A: I would because I like to see the new location there. So. But anyway, well, enjoy the time with your grandson. That, that's nice to have him there and get some bonding time and, and do a bike ride. So. Yeah. And hopefully he can show you some tricks and techniques on the radio that would be useful there and you can kind of share them with us. W2VX, you have a great day and enjoy this great weather. NN6H
Speaker C: thanks.
Speaker A: W2VX I'm clear. All right, 73 there, Doug. And you take care and say hi to your grandson for you. For me. All right, going to Dave K6DCL. Good morning Dave. Good morning to you and Lucy.
Speaker F: And good morning to you there my friend. Tom, good to hear you. And having off and on problems with this mic. M1KE and tomorrow. So today I decided to take the issue into my own hands and I went and opened up the application for it and found out there was a. There was some software available so I decided to update and it rebooted and here I am. It all seems to be working appropriately without failure. So that's pretty good. I'm glad it worked because I was very worried that I would have to do something more serious to the M1KE. Everything else is here is fine. We had a great net. Thank you for being. And we got up to 19 with folks coming in after the net so that was cool. That's the highest we've had since. In a long time anyway, so still enjoying my Jesus. 3185 and it's a champ. Runs very strong at 85 watts and so it's doing good. And thank you for taking me in there. Lucy's doing great time and everything is fine. K6TCM.
Speaker A: All right, very good there, Dave. K6TCL. NN6H. Yeah, well, I'm glad you got your mic up and running there. I would say that the audio on that is a little on the low side. You might try connecting into Patrick's parent net. 555-555-5345 and the three and connecting to that. And just make sure your audio is up to speed there. All right, very good. Well good. Congratulations on your GMRS net. Getting a lot of check ins there and it's good to have that in your area for doing all the community watch stuff. Definitely support that. All right, Dave, anything else before I move on here? K6DCL and M6H.
Speaker F: So I just wish you a good week. Looking forward and be safe and I hope you finish getting over that cold. I think I have a little bit of that that may be affecting my audio, but I am. I always use Patrick's parrot site and I used it before.
Speaker A: Right after I got this fixed, I used it to do a test and it sounded low to me. So I'm going to go back and
Speaker B: see what I can do.
Speaker A: K60 Field See you later, Tom. Take care.
Speaker C: Okay, Dave, very good. Well, you take care too, you and Lucy and we'll talk to you next time. Maybe talk to you on your, on your GMRs then on Tuesday. All right, Clearing with Dave next. I have N5 tin. Steve. Good morning. What do you have for the net this morning? Good morning, Tom. Hope everyone's doing well. Well, not too much this morning. It's kind of cloudy today, a little bit, partly cloudy. Supposed to have some storms tomorrow. I hope that's true. I need a little more rainwater in my tank. But I'm just hanging out listening to the Net and working on a few projects in my shop and trying to be productive today and I don't really have much else. I just thought I'd check in and say hello real quick. So with that I'll turn it back to you, Tom. NN 68 Gen 5 tin. Okay, very good there, Steve. Well, you have a great day and got you in the log here and thank you for checking in and enjoy your day there and hope you get a little bit of rain. Yeah, we're going to get some rain here I guess all next week. So looking forward to that because we can definitely use the rain and use the snow that hopefully will be coming. All right, so we'll take care and we'll talk to you next time. Clearing with N5 tin next. I have Henry at WH6Q. Good morning.
Speaker D: Good.
Speaker E: Except I'm Jim, Henry's over in Hawaii. I'm here in Middle Tennessee. But good morning there, Tom. I guess still morning there. Just turned 12 o' clock here. A little after 12. We got a nice bright sunshiny day. Promises to be good and warm. It seems like it's going to be a nice day. I think they were saying we're going to get rain this weekend. So who knows. At least the ice mostly is all gone except for it got piled up
Speaker C: and that's a good thing.
Speaker E: Between here and Nashville was like semi, semi truck loads. Not just one, a bunch of loads of brush that came down out of the trees during all that ice stuff. I guess that's about it. Maybe I ought to go check that. Check that Parrot node. I haven't ever done that on this thing. I think my interface, I need to get a different interface because I'm using a Dr.1 interface on a Dr.2.
Speaker C: And it seems like it's a little
Speaker E: bit hot a lot of times on receive.
Speaker C: I don't know about the transmit.
Speaker E: Anyway, have a good day. NN6Hnett WH6Q.
Speaker C: All right, very good. Well, I'm sorry Jim, that I called you Henry. Yeah, just writing down names here and stuff. So sorry about that. Yeah, your audio sounds fine. I don't think you can go ahead up there on Patrick's note. It's 55553 but I think your audio sounds fine. At least it does to me. So I'm just comparing it to everybody else. All right, well you have a great day there and you take care and thanks for checking in and so clearing with WH6Q. Next up, Jimmy aka 3VGM. Good morning or good afternoon to you.
Speaker D: Good afternoon Tom. I'm talking of the radiograph. Good afternoon. Good afternoon Tom. Hopefully you guys are having a good day back there and having a good day here in Pennsylvania. It probably warmed up a little bit. It's all the way up to 32 degrees today so. And it's supposed to get warmer after today so hopefully we won't freeze for a while. Although I heard Mark say it'll come back at the end of the month so I guess full enjoy while we have it. KH3BTM back to you Tom. MM68KA free VTM.
Speaker C: Yeah, it seems like maybe some things are changing weather wise here. So hopefully things do warm up for you and you probably will get some more cold going through. I'm sure this all this winter is not over yet there. So anyway you take care.
Speaker D: Thank you.
Speaker C: Thank you for checking in. We got you into the log here and again hopefully you do get some nice, nice warm weather there. So stay warm there and we'll talk to you next time. Thanks for checking in. So clearing with Ka3VGM this is Tom NN6H we are after the 10 o' clock hour here so I will go ahead here and open up for the log only for the log only for check ins be before we close down the the coffee break net. So who's out there? This is NN6H
Speaker B: it didn't work right because I didn't get in last round. KG6NLW on a radio that's really hot apparently

It's a beautiful new facility with great audio and video systems and we're looking forward and I am going to open the house tonight so there should be a lot of goodies in there. And if you're coming in person they're asking to bring some, some snacks for kids lunches. That's for the food bank. If you have to bring some kids lunch type snackable type of things or cereal would be appreciated. So that would be at the club meeting tonight. All right, so this is the, the coffee breaknew. Okay, I know you want to close it down so good morning everybody and
Speaker B: just wanted to say hello. Katie's.
Speaker C: Excuse me, back to you. Peter. Yeah, we got you in the log here. KD6QZH and go ahead Frank. You were doubling there with Peter before.
Speaker B: Apologies Peter. I coming. I'm coming in through All Star Tom. I wanted to try and figure something out here. I'm on the really hot radio and I was trying to use my regular radio here but it wasn't wanting to behave. I tried going to the Parrot node. It gets into the Parrot node just fine, but apparently you aren't able to hear me on it. So let me un key here if you have just a minute and I want to key up on the other radio and see if you can actually hear me.
Speaker C: Okay? Yeah, go ahead, Frank, I'll be here.
Speaker E: Kilo Golf 6 November Lima whiskey on the main rig.
Speaker C: Yeah, I hear you, I hear you. Okay, but you're hot. You're definitely very hot there on that radio.
Speaker B: All right, I brought the fader down to where the parrot note says it should be at, even though it said it was fine up at the other volume. How does this sound?
Speaker C: Yeah, you're much better. You're not over driving. Maybe a little bit low in the volume.
Speaker B: All right, I bumped it up to 5 decibels. How's the sound here?
Speaker C: Yeah, I think you sound okay. I mean before what occurred you. Even before, like when you checked in, you know, a couple days and stuff you would be fine. But on peaks you could actually hear the distortion. But now this, this sounds pretty good.
Speaker B: Over the last week while I'm at work, it varies if I use my phone or if I remotely connect in to the IC9700 here at the QTH to get in. So it all depends. But I'm, I'm setting, trying to set things here and I tried checking in as I said earlier, I tried checking in a few times and especially when Patrick had that one issue with the packet loss and my home rig just wasn't getting out and so I had to fire up the ht, you know, the CCR radio and that's where I'm always really hot is with the CCR radio.
Speaker D: So.
Speaker B: All right, thanks Tom. I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't something else going on here on the home rig. But you know, maybe when I doubled with someone or something during check ins, it was enough that it got buried.
Speaker C: Yeah, I actually didn't even see you on, on Supermon, so I didn't actually see you come through there. So. Yeah, not, not sure what was going on there anyway. But it sounds good now, so no problem.
Speaker B: Fantastic. Thank you. Next Friday I'm going to to be having Freddie Mac Ham Radio Crusader on and we're going to be working out a few more All Star bugs. So hopefully by this time next month. No, this time next week. Next Friday at 5 o' clock I'll have him on. So tomorrow, next week I'll have. Hopefully I'll have stuff worked out. Thanks, Tom. Have a great day. NN6H K G6NLW.
Speaker C: Hey, frank. You have a great day and a great week. Kg6nlw. Nn6h will be clear. All right? Yeah. Nlw sorry. Nn6h will be clear. Nn6h. Ki6tc.
