Speaker A: Yo, yo, yo, yo. Good morning peeps. Welcome to the Coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater located in Auburn, California. The coffee breaknet. Where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping. This net is sponsored by the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club in Northern California. We're here every day of the week from 7:30am to 10:00am Pacific Time. Please welcome your net control host and conversation facilitator Brian Ryan AI6US CB, an old school gangsta checking in from beautiful Meadow Vista, California. Get the Coffee Breaknet underway because it's a great way to start our day. Let's roll home boys and home girls.
Speaker B: Good morning homeboys and Homegirls. I'm Brian AI6US and welcome to the Coffee Breaknet. It is Monday morning, February 16th, 2026. Of course here in the US it's President's Day which is a federal holiday today. Big festival is going on. All you pasistas and reinas out there, yeah, you know who you are. Grab your feathers and go do the samba Carnival. I don't know if any of you have attended Carnaval outside of maybe. Well, you know, New Orleans is okay, but I don't know if you've ever done carnival. International. Big thing, a lot of fun. Today is national, I don't care how you say it. Almond. Almond. Today is almond day. Big, big industry here in California growing all those delicious almonds. And today is family day. So maybe spend if you have the day off today or plan something special with the family today because today is family day. National Family day. Good morning. Speaking of family, let's start checking in the hamly with ham family here on the coffee breaknet. And let's go ahead and get the coffee break net underway. Let's take a couple of rounds of quick in and outs. That just means you have things to do, places to go and can't spend much time to ride shoe. So yeah, keep your check ins under 2 minutes if you would. And that's a single flip of the egg soft egg timer here. Good morning. Let's take a couple of rounds of quick in and outs as we start our morning. And I'm going to go ahead and just start it out with some local RF check ins just from the W6EK repeat here in Northern California. So start out this check in list with just local RF and then we'll head over to the Internet stations. I appreciate everybody's assistance helping spread out some of the check ins here.
Speaker C: Good morning.
Speaker B: Who's out there this morning? Kilo Oscar Six in the Hotel Juliet.
Speaker D: Larry clicked QB6SSN.
Speaker B: All right, I have kd6ssn and k06ihj. Was there anyone else coming in through rf direct into the repeater?
Speaker C: Kilo delta 6, charlie delta quebec working off islands.
Speaker B: Good morning Rick.
Speaker C: KD6CDQ.
Speaker B: All right, let's check out and see who's coming in through the Internet. Anyone coming in through All Star Echo link. Anybody out there use IRLP anymore?
Speaker C: Good morning.

Unfortunately you had about two or three other people checking in along with you. So station identifying as being in Twin Falls, Idaho. Your call and name please. Kk7yocheved Ron calling in from Twin Falls, Idaho. All right, so this time of the morning we do quick in and out so I will be back to you for a moment there Ron and we'll say good morning and yeah conversation. Good morning will KJ5 Golf Whiskey November. Good morning to Mark KC8FQV please only check in once KC6SLE. Good morning Graydon and good morning to Carl N6CKV. Good Morning Coffee Breakneck K06IHJ.
Speaker C: It is a Monday, we'll call it that but everything was taken care of
Speaker B: in part of this wet, wet down here so good there. Tom will be pulling the driveway pretty soon so I gotta get off this so I can open the gate. We're gonna, we're gonna use both our brains on a Henry 2K today. Everything's. Everything is there but it's got one
Speaker D: little issue that I gotta.
Speaker B: I have to use more brain power to figure out.
Speaker E: Very good.
Speaker B: I know that Wampa is definitely quite the talent when it comes to those Henry's. Watched him rebuild a couple of Henry's and he does a beautiful job. Well, you have a wonderful day. You spent. You picked a great way to spend a rainy Monday.
Speaker C: Oh absolutely. Sit in the shack with a good
Speaker B: friend Elmer working on gear and it's
Speaker G: raining outside on the we're on the
Speaker C: dry side of the door.
Speaker B: You can't have some more than that, Brian.
Speaker C: Anyway, there's a whole slew of people and I know, I know Tom's gonna
Speaker B: be pulling my driveway here in a second, so I'm gonna let you go and I'm gonna get onto my business. Klc6ih73 everybody have a blessed day. Thanks for on the coffee breaknet. Okay, thanks, Larry. And you have a Wonderful day ahead. K06Ihjai6us Coffee break and good morning, Tom. KB6ssn Good morning, Brian.
Speaker D: Yeah, I'm on my way to Larry's house. Almost there. Woke up this morning to pouring rain, a headlight out, all kinds of fun stuff. So just enjoying the day so far. Looking forward to working on that, Henry today. We have some issues with the multimeter on it. We found some wires that weren't going where they were supposed to be going. So we're going to have to get the schematic out and figure out where to connect those. And other than that, the amp works fine. Just the multimeter doesn't work on it. So we'll get that fixed today and
Speaker B: see what we can't do about playing with it.
Speaker D: In the meantime, we're just having fun.
Speaker C: Fun.
Speaker D: And that's the best part of ham radio is having fun. And when you said today was a holiday, all I could think of was Dick Van Dyke with that horrible English accent in Mary Poppins. And every day's a holiday with Mary. You know, have a Great President's Day. KB6SSN73
Speaker B: Every day is a holiday with Mary. You have a great day there, Tom. And yeah, it has been pouring all night, hasn't it? Looks like it's the first of many, many days. And we'll take the snow that's supposedly going to come with it. Clearing with KD6SSN Good morning to Rick.
Speaker C: KD6CDQ.
Speaker B: Seems like all the amateur radio activity in town is centered from one location. Good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning, Brian. Yes, this is Katie six cdq Rick in beautiful downtown suburban North Highlands and bloody out mite. I think we're gonna slide downward and go some other state. Who knows? But I'll keep it brief. Five words to you.
Speaker F: Row, row, row.
Speaker C: Yobo.
Speaker B: No, I'm just gonna bring out. Bust out the feathers and go dance the samba. There we go, Rick. Have a wonderful day. Five words. I will take the heart. Anything else for the net today?
Speaker C: No, that's about it. Nudge here all week. Tuning again anyways for those who can stay in the house and stay dry. That's great.
Speaker B: That's what I'll do.
Speaker C: And everybody else, well, make the best of your day that you can. This is Katie 6 CDQ73, y'.
Speaker F: All.
Speaker B: And if you venture out of the house, remember to wear your little arm pool floaties. Have a great day. Rick.
Speaker C: Clearance KD6CDQ.
Speaker B: Good morning, Carl. N6CKV.
Speaker G: Good morning, Brian and everyone else out there on this wet day. Not much going on. Gonna finish up my taxes so I
Speaker C: can mail it tomorrow.
Speaker B: And that's about it. Wow, you say that with. With so much calm in your voice.
Speaker E: Yeah.
Speaker B: This year my taxes will probably be ready to submit in about two weeks here. But I'm glad to hear all of you out there starting to report in that you got them finished. You are obviously bigger hams than I am. Good morning to you, Carl and good morning to Ruth and hope that you have a wonderful day. Do we grow almonds or almonds?
Speaker G: It's almonds down here. Anyway, I'm going to say 73. Thanks for running the net, Brian. Everyone have a good and stay dry Monday. And hi to Lynn, N60KV.
Speaker B: All right, Carl, you have a wonderful day. And I will pass that on to Lynn. She is home today celebrating her holiday. So thank you.
Speaker C: Good morning. Let's see.
Speaker B: Let's go ahead and check in first with KK7YDC. Ron up in Twin Falls sounded like he was a quick, quick in and out. So good morning. This is KK7YOC.
Speaker D: Just monitoring this morning.
Speaker E: Thank you very much. Have a good holiday.
Speaker B: 73. All right, Ron, very good. So just a quick question. It sounds like you're coming in direct via What? Via the KB7 DFP's. Ken's repeater up there in Twin Falls.
Speaker C: Absolutely, yes.
Speaker E: Coming in through
Speaker C: 7 DFP.
Speaker E: I believe it is directly through him then to you.
Speaker B: Very good, Ron. You have a wonderful day. I know we have quite a few people checking in from the Twin Falls area and we certainly appreciate Ken putting this on his repeater up there. Well, you have a wonderful day and thanks for checking in this morning and drop by again sometime, Ron. KK7 Wyo sky up in Twin Falls, Idaho. AI6 US drive safely. 73. Kc6sole. Good morning, graydon. Good morning, Brian.
Speaker E: Good morning all. I was going to report real quickly that yesterday I was driving into Grass Valley to go up to Hill Slat and I noticed that they are taking all the trees down on both sides of the freeway going into Grass Valley up to Pretty Much from Lavar Meadow Road up to Allison Ranch Road and Meadow Road and McKnight Way. I don't know if you're familiar with that area, but they're just leveling all the trees on both sides. So this is part of the newest of as part of the State Route 49 Improvement Project, which eventually will merge with a second project to widen 49 all the way down to Lake of the Pines. So a huge improvement project to widen the freeway, improve traffic flow, I guess improve the evacuation capabilities of the road in case of a wildfire.
Speaker C: But.
Speaker E: But it's going to be a significant change. And then they're building another big roundabout right up by McKnight.
Speaker B: I always enjoy driving Highway 49 up towards your neck of the woods. It has always been so beautiful with those towering trees beside the road and just things have to change. I understand it could be a significant issue if there was a wildfire sweeping through there, but yep. Now if they only would have bypassed Auburn, they were going to funnel all that better traffic flow right into the bottleneck.
Speaker E: You are exactly right. That's an interesting project. Anybody who's curious about anybody that travels up the Grass Valley periodically for at least two years, maybe more likely three years, it's going to create significant traffic challenges. And I guess most of the construction is going to be done at night, which means we may get an impact noise wise too.
Speaker B: So I'm sure they'll give you some sort of discount on your taxes.
Speaker E: Probably raise the taxes. That'll be our reward. Anyway, everybody have a great day. Good Hearing from everyone. KC6SOLE
Speaker B: all right, Graydon. Well, you have a wonderful day. Thanks for the update and yeah, I will just retain the image of driving into Grass Valley with those towering trees. Just a beautiful stretch of road. I guess that will have to live on in my memories. KC6SLA AI6US.
Speaker C: Good morning.
Speaker B: It's President's Day in Carnival National Almond Day and Family Day. Let's see what folks are up to today. Mark. KC8FQV. Good morning.
Speaker F: All right, well, good morning here. We had five real thick earlier this morning. It's starting to burn off.
Speaker E: And that was.
Speaker F: They said about this time it was going to start to burn off. But you know, and I on keyed there was someone there. I said oh, I should have put my call twice out so that if something happened in the foo foo, you know, on the Internet, you know, normally we do try to do it two times so that if the ear is catch it exactly right, they have a second chance. Right then. And yeah, Family Day, I got text from a main event, their playroom arcade type thing here. The coaster club has gone over there after a meeting and had lunch and they would play bowling and whatever they got inside. Yeah, where you laser tag and that kind of stuff. So I signed up, when I was there, I signed up for getting text and yeah, I get text from them. And today, since the President Day, they have a special going. Yep, good place to take the kids, but everything else is going good. Hopefully the repeater is doing good. Hopefully the controller is doing good and everything. So we'll send it back to net control. KC8FQV.
Speaker B: Well, very good, Mark. Yeah, the repeater suffered from unknown issues. We've taken some steps to change some things, relocated the GPS sensor and kind of looking at other things. But right now we're still kind of in a logging mode and hopefully we'll see if it happens again. So yeah, we've been back on the voters for almost about 20 hours now. So it's one of those things where you wish there was an obvious failure, but there isn't. So gonna have to just put on, keep the logs running and hopefully we'll catch it and find out exactly what's caused it. But there has not been a hiccup now for 20 hours. KC8FQV. AI6US have a great President's Day and carnival and Family Day. 73 mark.
Speaker F: Yep, 73 case FQV
Speaker C: and let's head
Speaker B: on over to Oklahoma now. KJ5 Golf Whiskey November. Good morning, Mark. Kind of curious if you've heard any update on your Meals on Wheels delivery. Is it on the wheel somewhere or is it on a pallet in a warehouse? Well,
Speaker C: I did contact the company, so they are aware of it. They are looking into it. There seems to be some indication that it never left the.

Speaker A: Facility, but FedEx is saying they've got the package. So that is the update as of now. I should know something more by tomorrow morning's net, hopefully. So anyway, this is Will, by the way, not Mark. Anyway, that's, that's the story on the meals on wheels. Don't know really very much more than I knew yesterday. But you know, we're, we're making some headway on it. This is KJ5 Golf Whiskey November.
Speaker B: I apologize if I said Mark. Yeah, I was just entering in his, his information into the log while I was checking you in and I must have transposed something.
Speaker A: Brain.
Speaker B: Sorry about that. Well, how interesting. Well, I hopefully when the food arrives it's still edible, but otherwise I hope they get everything straightened out for. Well, any plans for the day? Will.
Speaker A: No my age come in at 9 o' clock Pacific time. We'll get that done over with and then I'll possibly send her out to get me something to eat and we'll take things as they come. So anyway, yeah, I'm kind of concerned about eating the meals because I've been without refrigeration plan almost a week. I'm kind of really concerned that it might make me sick. So I don't know. You know, I know they're kept on ice, but I don't know how, how long the ice will stay before the, the meal thaw. So, you know, I'm not, I'm not too sure about that though.
Speaker B: Brian.
Speaker A: KJ5 Golf Whiskey November.
Speaker B: Well, do not take a chance. And yeah, it'd be interesting how long those packages will remain frozen.
Speaker C: I know those type of shipments, they
Speaker B: really do pack them well, well insulated and well frozen. But yeah, how long? Well, I'm one that usually will not eat egg salad or potato salad that sat out for more than two hours.
Speaker C: So I, I think I know what
Speaker B: I would do with it. Will, have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking in. KJ5GW6US. Happy Monday.
Speaker A: 73 is brian. This is kj5 golf whiskey november for claire.
Speaker B: All right, sounds like maybe Will has his game shows on in the background there and gonna have a wonderful day ahead. Good morning everyone. This is the Coffee Break Net and I know our tagline is where the sun is always shining, birds are singing and the fish are jumping. But yeah, here in Northern California, I think, yeah, the sun is shining somewhere. Doubt the birds are singing and the fish may be quite comfortable just sitting on the back porch today. There's so much water. Let's go ahead and take another round of Quick in and outs as you start your day. I'm Brian AI6us. Welcome to the Coffee Breaknet.
Speaker D: Good morning, Brian and the Net Kilo Golf Six November Limowitzki.
Speaker C: Good morning.
Speaker E: Kk 06:00am,
Speaker F: Kb4 juliet delta bravo.
Speaker G: Can6tci. Brian in Arden Arcade.
Speaker B: All right, good morning to jimmy ka3vgm. Good morning to brian k and 6 at tci. And a new call for me. We'll find out who you are and where you're at. Kb4 juliet delta bravo. Good morning and good morning to ray, kk6am and good morning to brett ko6luv. And good morning to frank, kg6nlw. I know I missed one or two of you in there. Heard some doubling. Who did I miss? All right, nobody claims the spot, so we move on. Just a reminder, these are quick in and outs. Please keep your check ins under two minutes. And I'm keeping track with the soft egg timer up to the top. Good morning, Frank, KG6NLW.
Speaker D: Good morning, Brian and Lynette from Chile. Chilly Chile, Klamath Falls, where it's currently 33 degrees Fahrenheit and it's a mix of rain and snow. Yeah, it's a little chilly up here this morning. Morning. Not much else going on, you know, getting comfy in the bed and winding down for the day. So there you have it, Brian. I don't know if you heard yesterday when I mentioned it to Jeff. I'm sure you did, but just in case you didn't, I have the at home, I have the Coffee Break net live on YouTube, Twitch, Twitter and other social media places. So if anyone misses the Coffee Break Net one morning or just can't get in, they can at least, you know, listen live without having to worry about where to skip to on Broadcastify. So that's going to be every morning. And I think my thumbnails for the previews are outstanding with that, Brian, I'm going to say good morning to everybody and I'm going to hit the sack. AI6US, KG6NLW. And that call sign is where you can find all the social media stuff. Have a good morning.
Speaker B: All right. Yes, I did hear you talking to Jeff yesterday about that and yeah, thank you very much. And I was just thinking to myself, yeah, if you made it through the Coffee Break Net one more time and want to relive highlights. Oh man, once is enough some mornings. Frank, have a wonderful day. Mixture of rain and snow up in Klamath Falls. And you, I know you're on the rails, so probably a lot less Risk except for the other idiots on the crossings for this type of weather. Have a wonderful day, Frank. And and enjoy your snooze.
Speaker D: Oh, I absolutely will. And the only weather problem we might have is when I have to get out and walk the train in the cold. But thankfully that doesn't happen much. Have a Good day, Brian. KG6 Milwaukee and I'm hitting the end button on my repeater phone.
Speaker B: All right, Frank. Yes indeed. Those treacherous walks up to the cab.
Speaker E: Got it.
Speaker B: You have a great day. KG6NLW Frank Overnighting or overdain in Calamus Falls. Hey, Good morning Brett. KO6 Luv and company.
Speaker C: Hey B6L U V here. Yes, good morning Brian and Coffee Breaknet. And yes, I have my lovely wife and here sitting with me and so yes, good morning to everybody. I hope all is doing well. And again I'm going to say again to you Brian and everybody else who works on Keeger and the voter systems and all that, thank you. I mean I know you guys put in a ton of work behind the scenes to make all this happen, so thank you. You definitely helped make my mornings run a lot smoother.
Speaker B: Well, glad that you and your family. Good morning ladies. Are there with this morning and you're part of our daily check in and conversations here. Yeah, this weekend. I'll say the bulk of the work this weekend was definitely done by Doug W2VX and Tom NN6H. Tom was pretty much monitoring the repeater throughout the whole weekend, logging and checking for errors. And yesterday Doug went over to the vault and relocated the GPS puck and checked wiring issues and did a little checking to on other things. So yeah, yesterday they did the bulk of the work on it and I was just on standby so I was thankful that they were certainly there yesterday. Well, good morning to you, Brett. Happy President's Day Carnival Family Day. That's what you have around you. So you have a wonderful day celebrating with family. Any of your you want to be a control operator for any of your guests,
Speaker A: my guest.
Speaker C: That'd be lovely. I have a couple ladies who would like to say good morning.
Speaker A: Good morning.
Speaker H: Good morning Brian and all of you net people.
Speaker B: You're right.
Speaker H: Fish may be jumping out here, but it sure isn't sunny out there.
Speaker B: Yes indeed. Good morning ladies and yeah, Bonnie, this is I'm sure not what was on the, on the travel brochure when you said, hey, let's leave Kansas and head to California. I hear it's lovely out there this time of year. Well, good morning either one of you and Brett, I'll come back to you. What are the plans for today? It is family day, you know. Oh, that's right.
Speaker H: I don't keep up with these days. And some of them are funny that you all talk about. Well, we're here together as a family. That's what we got as family day.
Speaker B: All right, good morning to you, and thanks for checking in this morning.
Speaker C: And Brett, I guess it's up to
Speaker B: you to come up with something for family day. I maybe take them down to the park and shoot some hoops or row the boat.
Speaker C: Well, you definitely got a good giggle out of here. Good giggle here. No hoops being shot here.
Speaker B: Maybe we go to the park and float a boat.
Speaker C: So anyway, thanks for being there, Brian. Everybody out there in coffee break netland, have an amazing day. Be blessed, Take care of yourselves. Take care of each other. KV6 luv, you have loved 73 Clearing, listening.
Speaker B: Well, I don't know about the rest of you out there, but hearing Brett's check in with the laughter in the background, that is the way that I would love to start every day.
Speaker D: That's.
Speaker B: That's, you know, that was probably the best thing so far today, hearing that laughter in the background. Have a great day clearing with Ko6luv and company. And good morning to Ray KK 6am
Speaker E: Good morning. Since you haven't mentioned it already, how much rain did you get overnight?
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm not a very good ham radio operator. I need to open up my. My app here and let's see, in the last 24 hours, got 2.7 inches and overnight since midnight. Oh, my gosh.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker B: Three quarters of an inch since midnight.
Speaker E: Okay, so I probably got a quarter of an inch. I kind of figured that out. Take how much you got and move the decimal point.
Speaker B: Yeah, there's definitely some. Some disruption to the cloud formations when they leave Auburn. They seem to park over our basin here and dump. Well, good morning to you. Is today. Is this Monday any different than any other Monday for you? And you know, today is the day to get out those shoes and do the samba.
Speaker E: I never was much of a dancer of any. Any kind, and I'm pretty sure samba is way beyond me.
Speaker B: Same here. But I watch it very well.
Speaker E: Yeah. Tom could probably come on and tell us whether it's easy or hard or whatever, but never really something that got me until I started doing sound for Downstream cycles. That was a different thing all together. And it was fun. Yeah.
Speaker B: DJ at a dance recital, I'm sure. Takes a different type of coordination
Speaker E: oh, not only that, you get the rehearsals and play music in between their numbers and play things like take things from Dave Brubeck and Frank Zappa that have these weird time signatures and you watch the girls that are sitting there tapping their foot and all of a sudden, what's that?
Speaker B: And their rhythm is destroyed forever. Well, I'm glad you broadened their musical horizon.
Speaker E: Well, obviously it didn't ruin their sense of rhythm or anything else. Just talk to Christina about that.
Speaker B: Ah. So then she started learning about all the mathematics behind music. I get it. Well, good morning Ray and dodge the raindrops. And yes, it's. We are just at the beginning of this event, so it's going to be interesting to see if the snow does make it down to the Auburn level.
Speaker E: If it does, I'll just probably nail a blanket across the door and never go out.
Speaker B: You know, it's not my driving skills that make me nervous around here, it's everybody else's. Of course, that's probably what they're saying as well.
Speaker E: A couple good ones from when I was in Oregon. You know, four inches of snow didn't happen all that often. About as often as it does here to get right down to it. But I'm out driving before I got my jeep. I've got my mother's big old Buick and it comes to this one T intersection. And here's an SUV and another SUV that T boned them and they getting out. I don't know what happened. I was in four wheel drive.
Speaker B: Yes, indeed. They must have been one of those mall rats with their four wheel drive. Yeah, they go great when you're taking off.
Speaker E: Well, you have to learn the lesson about letting off on the brakes when you want to turn a corner too. That's the part that to me was a total eye opener when I was a kid.
Speaker B: Yep. No, four wheel drive is a great thing. But still, you know, I, I prefer other additions to traction control and yeah, that decision. Do you chain the front or do you put them on all four? How much time do you want to spend? What's your advantage going to be? But yeah, I can imagine people in the Medford area were not too used to. Well, unless they drove the skus much. But yeah, down at that level it was probably just something they looked at and decided to stay in.
Speaker E: Yeah, this one was right down by Jacksonville probably. I was probably headed to the south stage sellers tasting room, knowing me. But just one of those, like, what, what's wrong with you people?
Speaker C: Yep.
Speaker B: And they're looking at you wondering the same thing. Hey, Ray, have a great Monday. Can you AK 6:00am AI 6:US and yes, we are all excellent snow drivers. It's the other guy.
Speaker E: Well, truthfully, I'm probably never going to drive in the snow again unless I do it just for fun, which I don't look at as that much fun. So 73 KK 6am
Speaker B: well, I have my generator by, have some, some full tanks of propane standing by. And yeah, if we get the snow dumping that we're talking about and as wet as it's predicted to be, we may be out there delivering some backup power for folks. Hopefully we don't need it. Have a great day, Ray. KK 6:00am AI 6:US and let's see. KB4, Julia Dunn, Delta Bravo, good morning.
Speaker F: Good morning. KV 4 Juliet, Delta Bravo, this is John in Sheffield, Alabama, in the northwest
Speaker B: corner of the state. Just checking in.
Speaker F: It's Sunny Blue sky, 53 degrees here. So just checking in real quick. Thank you for running the net and 73, everybody. KZ4 KTP.
Speaker B: All right, John. Well, thank you for dropping in this morning. And yes, sounds like wonderful weather. And you're probably laughing at us Californians as winter actually comes here, our version of it. Have a wonderful day. KB4JDB in Alabama. And let's see what KN6TCI. Good morning, namesake.
Speaker G: Yeah, good morning, Brian. I hope you're doing well and I hope everything's going good this morning for you in the last few days. This is KN6TCI. Brian in Sacramento or.

Speaker A: More specifically Arden Arcade here at Watana El Camino. Well, today's one of those days. I'm off today. Technically, you know, I don't know if you remember I do repair guitars for a living or I'm technically a luthier and I usually sleep in pretty late. But today I was up and just kind of motivated and get ready for the day over.
Speaker B: You know, I'm surprised. Last week I was National Guitar Day and I was kind of hoping that you were going to drop by on that day, but it brought a lot of conversations. I was really surprised of the number of people on our net who are not only guitar owners but they claim to be musicians. So yes indeed, you have a lot of potential folks out there needing repair. But excellent. A day off for somebody who is self employed. I am. Is it possible?
Speaker A: Well, you're right, it's not quite possible. I will be checking emails later today and going over all that. So that's how the money comes in. But I technically don't have to go out and work on anything in the shop or meet anybody for any appointments. So yeah, I'm constantly checking the phone.
Speaker C: Roger.
Speaker B: Yep, definitely technology put a tether on a small business owner. Well, Brian, enjoy your day off and any plans. Today is family day, you know.
Speaker A: Yeah, Roger that. I think we're probably going to end up maybe closing it up by the fireplace or something like that. It's a kind of a wet, nasty day over here. It's a lot of rain coming down so. Yeah, I mean maybe something like that. You know, I have that 98 Jeep Cherokee too tempted to, you know, run up there for an hour or two and then play in the snow. But unfortunately my front ARB locker, the seal needs to be replaced so its air is coming out the breather in the deck. So not good there. But yeah, that's kind of just the plans for today and you know, maybe get out and work on the Jeep a little bit. So. So back to you, Brian.
Speaker B: Alrighty. Spoken like a true flatlander. I think I'm going to head up to the hills. You know, it's unbelievable when we get snow up here how many people drive up to play in the snow. And it gets a little crazy up here sometimes, but yeah, we enjoy the visitors. Have a wonderful day. Brian, thanks for checking in and enjoy your day off. Air quotes. Happy Monday.
Speaker A: You too Brian. Thanks for taking my call and I always appreciate when you're doing it. You kind of put me at ease so I appreciate that. Have a great day. This is KN6TCI saying 7.3 and sending it back to net control.
Speaker B: All right, Brian. No, it's just a conversation. And it's only you and I, nobody else listening in. Right? KN6TCI AI6US and good morning to Jimmy, Ka3VGM and Jimmy, what's it like back in Pennsylvania? Did your warm spel.
Speaker D: Well, it wouldn't do warm for you, but it's warm for us. It says it's pretty dew right now. Going to 47 today, although it looks kind of cloudy out there. Not much sunshine today, but it's supposed to be even warmer tomorrow and even warmer the day after that. It's not supposed to cold again until Sunday. I'm just hoping it doesn't go back down as a single digit because it's supposed to be 36 degrees on Sunday, but I hope it stays around there and doesn't go back down to those single but at least it's a little warmer than it has been. Did you end up punching the Daytona 500 yesterday or not? Brad Ai6US Ka3BTM.
Speaker B: As you know, I'm not a big TV sports person, but I Daytona is one of those things that I do like to catch and yesterday I watched, oh, probably picked it up about a little over halfway before the race was over and oh my gosh, Jimmy, what did you think of the last couple laps?
Speaker D: Yeah, Daytuna is kind of a big wreck track, that's for sure. And NASCAR has become smash. Everybody out of the way. But I guess it always was like that. I myself was waiting for the Stellartart documentary which came on later. So I sent the DVR to record. Being with one of my favorite drivers along with Jimmy Johnson. So that's that story. But I am quite the NASCAR watcher. I do try to follow all the races when I'm, when I'm available to watch them and when they're not as me or when I'm not as available for the live version, I usually wait a couple of days until NASCAR puts the replays up on YouTube and watch the whole race that way. So I guess you could say I'm quite The NASCAR fanatic. A6USK for VGM. You guys have a good day. Glad the repeaters working again. Hopefully it'll stay that way.
Speaker B: Oh, no one is hoping for that repeater. Good luck. More than high. Well, definitely sounds like you are one heck of a NASCAR fan. And yesterday, yeah, that was like you said, true to Daytona. And boy, right there at the finish line, big pile up as, as the Whole race changed. It was, it was pretty darn incredible. High speed, you know, drafting, bumps. It was crazy. Ka3vgm ai6us and thanks for checking in this morning, Jimmy. Hey, I'm Brian AI6us. This is the coffee break net where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping. Hopefully maybe today you have the day off because it's President's day or today is carnival. So I don't know if you're a sista or reynjas, but yeah, even if you're not, don't neglect that opportunity to go out and celebrate Carnaval and put on your dancing shoes. Today is national Almond day. Or some people say almond. I'll call it Almond. Today is family day. Do something special with the family today. Let's go ahead and take regular check ins now. If you are short on time, let me know, let me know. You want to be a quick in and out, I'll put you at the top of the list. Otherwise. Good morning everybody. It is Monday. Monday. And let's take some regular check ins now.
Speaker E: Hey, good morning, Juliet.
Speaker B: Whiskey.
Speaker E: Good morning there, Brian. This is WB6BJN. I'll give a quick synopsis of the weather but I need a, I need an in and out today there.
Speaker B: Go ahead.
Speaker E: At an elevation of 3673ft, this is Sac Valley's original 105 machine W6GRC with a PL tone of 110.9.
Speaker B: All right, good morning stephen, k06ebq. And good morning to dave, k6dcl. And good morning to daniel n9muf. And let's see. Good morning. Morning to mark, wb6bjn for a in and out. And then there was a station doubling in there with mark k6jwn. Were you going to hang around, do a little rag chew or are you in and out?
Speaker C: I will be in and out this morning.
Speaker B: All right, very good. And did I miss anyone? All right, let's head on down to Wilton at K6JWN. Good morning Jim. What do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker C: Yeah, good morning to everybody on the net.
Speaker B: K6JWN.
Speaker C: Down in a soggy Wilton. We're looking at the rain gauge. We've always already received over an inch of rain since last night and I think right now it's coming down at a rate of an inch an hour. Today I have the day off so I'll be doing indoor tasks.
Speaker B: So
Speaker C: that's about all I got. I will be going and looking for my raft. Have a great day everyone.
Speaker B: K6JW1 yeah, kind of looking out the window now and it has picked up a lot. But yeah, we haven't gotten near your inch yet. We, we've gotten about three since midnight but definitely this has turned into quite the event. Well find those floaties and be safe. Jim. You have a great Monday. K6JWNAI6US73. Yeah, exactly 73. K6jw1 and let's head on back to tennessee. Good morning mark for in and out this morning. Wb6bj.
Speaker E: Yeah, hey good morning there Brian. WB6BJN yeah, I gotta go see you. I gotta go see a kidney doctor today. They didn't like what they saw. Well one of my last time I was in so they scheduled me for that today. I don't think it's anything serious. I hope not. I don't have any pain but they didn't like what they saw so they want me to go see a guy and maybe run some tests. Everything will go good today. So I got a gotta leave here a little early but good to hear from you and everybody on the net this morning and Snowmageddon for California and rain and there's three storms that are headed for you guys. It's gonna rain and if you could be into this situation clear to the end of February and they're even calling for maybe a chance of tornadoes from Merced southward into Southern California. This could be a real wild mess for California. Could be four to eight feet of snow. I've heard unbelievable. And back here some record breaking temperatures. And if Daniel back in Chicago, if you don't go on a parks on the air, I don't know what would stop you today it's going to be 62 to 64 degrees the last time. The record for Chicago and Rockford on this date was set back in 1921 I think when it was 58. So if it makes the 62 to 64 it will be a record smashing temperature for the date going to be real warm and back here in Tennessee and warm weather back in the Midwest and mid south this week and that could lead to maybe some thunderstorms. Hopefully no severe weather but they say don't get too used to it because it will get cold one more time. Another Arctic blue last will be here by the first by the end of February. And the first part of back to you Ryan. WB6DJN
Speaker B: well first of all I wish you well for your kidney test today. Hopefully you've studied up for that. But no joking aside, I hope that they find that thing was just, you know, a doctor wanting to help, help him out with his green fees and nothing more than three storms stacked up back to back. Big weather activity through the end of February.
Speaker D: Wow.
Speaker B: And yeah, that would be something else. Mid mid 60s low mid to low 60s in Chicago. I, I'm looking forward to hearing, hearing Daniel doing a pod activation today. Absolutely, Mark.
Speaker E: Yeah. Well, you know, I talked about this big flip in the weather pattern and it has happened. We could get up into the mid here. I don't like to see that this early because, you know, you get that Gulf moisture and if it, if we get some polar air starting to come down this week, weekend, which they say could happen, you know, we could set up that. Hopefully that boundary doesn't set up right here because there's going to be a fight between two air masses and the battle zone and that's where that, that boundary line sets up. So nothing, nothing toward a severe outbreak yet, but we keep a watch on it there. Go ahead.
Speaker B: All right, well, thanks for the heads up on that. And definitely, yeah, the warmer temperatures I'm sure are appreciated by many, but yeah, the effects could be quite severe. Well, good morning to you, Good morning to Sarah and I hope you do well on your test. Blow out the bell curve.
Speaker E: You know, I feel good. I had a little, a little bit of discomfort maybe right before I went in and then I started drinking water. So I have a hard time with water and I. That may have been kind of the problem. But they hopefully, hopefully it's not too serious. And if it is, hey, you know what, we get it taken care and I'm pretty optimistic and I just, you know, keep a good head about it and hopefully everything else has gone fine. So, you know, that's the way I look at it there.
Speaker D: Go ahead.
Speaker B: I have the same problem with water. I usually only start drinking it when I'm thirsty. And they say if you're thirsty, you've gone beyond at the time. And so, yeah, I also have to monitor my liquid intake as well. Have a wonderful day, Mark, and thanks for checking in. We covered the RV so the RV is well protected and the gutters are clean. So I think what more could we do to prepare for this other than just pick our activities wisely or our rain outfits? WB6BJN AI6US have a great day, Mark. Happy Monday.
Speaker E: Thank you. And just one more thing. I know I've probably flipped the egg timer. Just one more thing. This is so intense that they have actually said something about a trace of could happen in Bakersfield. Can you imagine that? In the southern San Joaquin Valley. And there could be as much as a foot or two at 1500ft in the northern Sierras. That's just crazy. That's crazy. I'll bet you get snow at your house. And we'll talk more about this as the week and we'll be back later with more details. Thank you. Thank you, Brian. And from Sarah and I, everybody, have a blessed day. WB6BJ
Speaker B: all right. You have a wonderful day and enjoy. I'm surprised the doctor's office open today since it is a holiday or I thought they'd be out maybe at carnival. Have a great day. Mark clearing with WB6B and good morning, Daniel. Pressures on external pressure to do a PODA N9 MUF. Sounds like you are going to have a beautiful day. Break out the suntan lotion. Good morning Brian and Mark in the net. We have been planning on this for a week so definitely looking forward to it. Actually watching the computer upgrade right now running some last updates on it. That's one of the joys of doing Gentoo unfortunately is you've got to compile your own source code but I'd rather
Speaker C: not be doing that out in the field.
Speaker E: Will get the
Speaker B: good luck to you on that. With white noise. All right. Yeah, I Good, good. Yeah. This is when I do enjoy having Windows, when it doesn't break anything, the updating and yes, you have proven yet another way that you are a bigger man than I. If I had to compile my system each time for an update I would still be running probably.

Speaker A: Xp.
Speaker B: Enterprise, the original Red Hat 6 and 7, was trying out a few other distros and then had a chance to pound with Gen 2 while working a second shift at AC Nielsen and they basically said, you know we need you for an hour at the beginning and an hour at the end and for the rest of it bring books, movies and play around and they computers laying around and I asked if I could set one of them up and did and fell in love with the flexibility. You know the downside is you've got to compile your own, compile everything on your own. The upside of it is you don't have to do what the assumptions Stream makes for you. And I have found that to be very helpful, especially as most of my Linux boxes are headless.
Speaker A: Yes, you and I live in a different world, but I'm glad we can find some common grounds on other subjects. You know, if I had to pay that much attention to my poor computer I think I'd probably pull out the stone tablet.
Speaker B: Well, having having Windows and Macs and Linux leads to some good stuff. I had somebody reach out to me after the classes I taught on Saturday and ask about running certain things and fortunately since I'm staring at a Mac laptop I can see if I can test it out and give him a report.
Speaker A: Certainly seen more amateur radio development though on the Mac Front or iOS in recent years and you know, good to see you know that support happening. When I got back into amateur radio, frankly I was very surprised at primarily all Windows based. I thought I was going to need to enter the Linux world and I was just kind of blown away even by the lack of Linux applications for amateur radio. Will, you brought up a great thing for me to ask a question about. I know this last weekend you were teaching some, some subjects digital I think was your subject matter and there was one other thing for your for your classes. So how did that go? Any feedback?
Speaker B: I definitely got a lot of good feedback. As I said I've already got an email. A very long email that I reply to was teaching Chapter 8 Digital for the extra class and then a little add on for the tech class in terms of affordable ways that you can work the world. Because one of my frustrations is we quite often get the new tech up and running and they buy a, you know, a cheap handheld and they can't understand, they can't work outside county and so trying to set up some realistic and affordable expectations for them. But I think they both went well and now I've got to pivot and make sure that I teach the book when it comes to the general class, the digital portion as well. I've already got quite a few slides that say this is what the book says. They're wrong but for the test, remember this?
Speaker A: Yes, for the test, remember this? Well, those questions should be reported because I did notice they did make a couple other changes to the exam pool in the past week here. So you know these things if they are pointed out and correct, you know the changes to the learning materials and the testing materials are made so you know if they are incorrect. But you know a lot of times things are correct or left in the pool which yeah, I've had issues with that as well. Well Danielle, very good. Glad to hear that you are giving back to the amateur radio community and teaching the classes and giving the VE sessions are just so rewarding. I know. This next weekend our extra class, it's a 10 week class that is offered via Z. The extra class is going out this weekend and doing an in the field portable setup and looking forward to. I know they're looking for a couple of Elmers to help with that. Usually we have a really great group of Elmers that go out to support these in field labs for the classes.
Speaker B: I think giving people a chance to be hands on or at least see some of it quite often. I've done a little bit of a hands on demo by logging into my home setup which is Windows based. To be honest, I'm not one of these people that says it's got to all be one os. To me it's find the OS that does the same job for you. And I agree with you. A lot of the good software that's out there is either Linux based or Linux only. And I think the fight honestly between Omnilab or Omniview and Hamlib is part of the problem. I wish that Omniview, Omnirig. I wish Omnirig could run on more than Windows and I wish that the people that have said well I won't develop for it because it's only Windows would stop being so self righteous about it.
Speaker A: I don't know Daniel, sometime we'll have to talk and I really want to know how you really feel.
Speaker B: Who me? Have a strong opinion about software? Oh no, no, no, that's not me. I am a sweet and gentle soul
Speaker A: but you're going to have to claw to get this Linux laptop out of my dead cold fingers. Hey, have a wonderful activation today. What time are you heading out and what band might we find you on?
Speaker B: Haven't decided on bands. Most likely it'll be 20 and we'll be heading out after lunch. I always enjoy listening to the net and I've got a few things that I need to get done both for the POTA and putting gear away from the class. And it's always nice to go out for the POTA knowing that everything is done and you don't have a bunch of self inflicted honeydews waiting for you
Speaker A: when you get home.
Speaker B: Yeah, no. And the whole reason it's a Linux laptop, to be honest, is that the Windows version on it expired. I wasn't going to try and upgrade and it was like, okay, let's just install what I know is free and I know it'll work and if I'm going to do it, I'm going to install the distro of my choice. I prefer the role over the Linux box as I've only got one Ubuntu box and it's my main machine and that was just more out of laziness than anything else. So with that, I'll say 7.3 to you in the net, Brian and thank you Mark for the good weather. This is N9 MUF
Speaker A: I came up against the same scenario with two of my laptops that I use for portable operations and for VE exams and it just really came down to it. For VE exams all I need is a browser. So I just said okay, for this it really doesn't matter what machine I use. So I'm going to just milk the laptop for a little bit longer until maybe the security alerts start popping up when I try doing something through a browser and then my other apps are I'm not online. You know, I'm doing local logging and local, you know, other digital apps that don't require Internet connection. So I think for now my portable operations are well covered by a Windows 10 laptop. But yeah, I am looking, looking down the Linux road for the future of those laptops. Daniel have a wonderful day and we hope to catch you on a POD activation this afternoon. N9 MUF AI6US you have a great Monday. 7 3. Good morning Dave. K6DCL enjoying the beautiful Southern California weather. Southern end of the Northern California Jamestown. You know, people think of California, they think sitting on some white sand beach sipping pina coladas. How's your pina colada up in the pine forest there, Dave?
Speaker C: K6dcl Good morning Brad and everybody on the coffee breaknet. Well I tell you, I think everybody thinks California is Malibu, Malibu and Malibu. I stayed there, camped there all sorts of things. And it's a beautiful place to think that that's what California is. But it's only a smidgen of California. There you go. And Jamestown is another tiny smidgen of California. But it's a beautiful place to be and we have a lot of nice folks. And I got another story to tell you. And then a lot of hands. So hands enjoyed this area and if you can be lucky enough to get on top of a mountaintop, it looks very fine. Other than that, I just got in another bovine G bump grg a GRS mini bag and cost less than the other one did. But we won't belabor that and I'm very happy with that. So we're going to set that up with our. GMRS radio stations up here and get that going. See how much I can hit with the bovang. I also got a Nagoya antenna for it, longer antenna, so might as well give it a little extra punch right off the bat. Other than that, that should have been about it. The Yaesu 3185 has been a great performer, consistent and solid. So I'm very happy with that. Then we told Rattel that we would help test a little bitty bitty FRS radio which so far not made any contacts and I've given two out and we just can't get synced up. So we still have more work to do on those, but I don't think they're going to be great performers anyway, that's all that's fit to print. We've had three quarters of an inch overnight since midnight, so not much else I could say. Although we need the rain really bad. So keep it coming. K6DCL
Speaker A: My my. Yes indeed. No, we we're almost to an inch now, so yeah, when we came on with the net we were just a little over three quarters of an inch since midnight and now we're nearing an inch, so nice and steady. Well, thanks for the updates on your radio herd and yeah, that's interesting. Did Radtel ever respond to let you know if there was any programming software available for those radios or are they intent on keeping those Little mini radios GMRs only?
Speaker C: They're intent on keeping them FRS only. I believe they're another friend of mine who has I've given one of them to. He's a really he's an engineer so he likes to experiment and he said there there was the ability to use Trip, but he hasn't figured that out yet.
Speaker B: So we'll see what happens.
Speaker C: So I think maybe CHIRP can access these. A little bitty, little bitty. I mean three quarters, maybe three inches at most tall. So it's really a little bitty thing. And I don't see me having it use for it. But this is mainly for host things like that. Maybe, maybe campgrounds, who knows. But yeah, you know, I figured I'd say yes and see what it was all about.
Speaker A: Well, in my opinion, those little radios are great to reprogram to use with a node. And you know, I've done that with several FRS and GMRS radios where the factory supported, you know, programming. And so I have several radios around here that they started out as FRS or GMRS radios, but I have turned them into something that I can work with my nodes. So kind of nice to have these little mini form factors. Well, good morning to you. Good morning to Lucy, Happy Monday to you. And remember it's carnival, so take her out and take her to Samba.
Speaker C: Hey, my friend, you take it easy. Good to hear you yesterday too. What? Big surprise. I did think, wait a minute, is today Monday? Anyway, I'm glad everything is working appropriately and I knew it would. Yet you got great people there. Anyway, K6DCO 7.35.
Speaker A: All right, Dave, have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking in and we'll probably talk with you tomorrow. Yeah, yesterday we were on the backup repeater and for some reason one of Jeff's radios just wouldn't not connect up. So I don't know what he found out. But yeah, I started the net for I think the first half hour, 45 minutes until everything got settled down and then Jeff hopped in there and took over the Net. So, yeah, I know I made a lot of people go, oh my gosh, it's Monday. What a terrible way to wake up in the morning to hearing thinking that it's Monday morning. Completely ruins a Perfectly good Sunday. K6DCL, good morning to you, good morning to Lucy, and we'll chat with you again, Stephen. K06ebq Good morning, sir, and a fine
Speaker D: morning to you, Brian and the Net. Just hanging out here, looking at the weather out there and playing with the computers, the. The club computer. I'm committed to making our next meeting much more fluid. But hey, last week was awesome though.
Speaker A: Yeah, I saw a reply to an email that one of our members had sent out thanking the club for making the change to the new facility and indicating even though we have some things to do to improve the audio in the room there, they were so appreciative of the improved experience and so that's great to see that feedback coming in. Well, good morning to you and happy Monday. Do you have the day off or is this just another workday for you?
Speaker D: Oh, it's just another workday for me. But you know, okay, it's alright. It allows me to do the things I need to do for the family and you know, I'm not complaining. As long as I got work, I'm good here. So I don't really have much more. So I'm not going to ramble on. I'm just going to say 7:3 to all, look forward to future enhancements for our club meeting. It can only get better. And with that, I return it to net control. Brian KO6Ebq clear.
Speaker A: All right, Steven. Yeah, Great turnout. I just saw so many people that I had not seen at a club meeting in a while. I counted the room a little bit differently. I counted 20. I think it was 25 outside of the room total for the online and then 74. I think it was 75 in the room. So I came up with just somewhere right around 100 in attendance. So it's great to see presentation and the excitement, man. We had a wonderful spread of delicious delights provided by the food bank. Ladies from the food bank, so appreciate it. So appreciated. And wow, what a great presentation on Men Mesh by N5JEF. I'm looking forward to seeing that on YouTube and watching one more time to absorb maybe something I missed. Anybody out there who missed Jeff's presentation? Definitely be on the lookout for getting.

Speaker A: Posted up on the club's YouTube channel. Jeff gave an awesome presentation on mesh systems. And of course the Club has the W60K repeater for mesh core up and active at this time. Good morning. Coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater. Oh, I should say Stephen. Anything else before I let you go? No, Brian, thanks for the offer. KR6EVQ back net control. Yeah, Brian blathered on so long I wasn't even sure if you maybe had turned the radio off by then. Have a great day.
Speaker B: Steven.
Speaker A: Good morning. Something just came to my attention. Graydon, KC6SLE Graydon, are you still monitoring or. Or anybody at the. Get Graydon's attention. KC6SLE Graydon, are you monitoring? One more shout out. Kc6sle graydon, are you still monitoring this morning? This is ai6us for the coffee breaknet. Okay, there goes the Fireside network again. They have the most interesting kerchunks. All right, so this is why I was calling out for Graydon throughout the day. Help me out here. Let's all wish Graydon a very happy birthday. So if you hear him on the radio here, let's wish Graydon a very very happy birthday. It just came to my attention, popped up on my phone here that I was missing a birthday and I'm sorry that I earlier of course he did not tell us that his birthday so we know how he feels about it. Kc6sle Happy Birthday. If anyone at that household is monitoring Good morning coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater. Let's do a round of quick in and outs as you start you your morning and then we'll get back in some rag chew Coffee Breaknet. Get check ins quick in and outs please. KD6Q Good morning Brian.

Good morning christina, ak60u and let's see before that I had a kerfuffle so I'll come back and clear that one up. I did hear k06th. Good morning greg and good morning to sam. K4lgi. Good morning to dan, k n6w qu good morning to k86qzh18 and let's see there was glenn dose. Full call please. Kilo oscar six lima golf papa. Good morning glendos ko6 lgb and there was one other station that doubled in with glenn there. Who did I miss there? K6ntd sam boy way over mod. All I got was a k6. Station Again, you were over driving Kilo six. Abducted by space aliens. Let's hope that his procedure is going to be better than Mark's today. Good morning. Did I miss anyone on the check in list?
Speaker D: Kilo Charlie 6, Sierra, Lima Echo with a recheck.
Speaker A: All right, we know what we're going to do folks. Everybody out there who's listening to the coffee breaknet I need your full support here. So it doesn't matter if we all kerfuffle and load up the repeater. Let's wish Graydon KC6SOLE a very happy birthday. So everyone grab your microphones and join me. Happy birthday. Ai6us Happy birthday.
Speaker E: Happy birthday.
Speaker C: 68 60.
Speaker A: Happy birthday.
Speaker C: Happy birthday.
Speaker A: Happy birthday. Happy birthday.
Speaker C: Happy birthday.
Speaker A: From King A Perv. Happy birthday kp. Happy birthday. Creighton kb5bao.
Speaker F: Happy birthday.
Speaker A: Well, there we go. Graydon, thank you for coming back to the radio. Do you feel loved? I do. Thank you very much.
Speaker D: Much appreciated by all of you. I normally play it pretty low key with birthdays and I've been around the
Speaker A: sun 72 times now, so.
Speaker D: But I appreciate it. I was, you know not to go into graphics, but I was just coming out of the restroom when I heard you talking.
Speaker A: I go, I thought Brian mentioned my name about something.
Speaker D: So sorry I missed your coming back to me, Brian, but I was taking
Speaker A: care of some business. Casey Six, that's Phil. And at 72, I'm glad you're around to take care of business. Great. And very happy birthday to you. And I know you're not one to really advertise something like that, but I saw a notice come up on that today was your birthday and I wished I had seen it earlier in the day when you checked in. But we couldn't let this day go by notice. So have a very happy, happy birthday
Speaker D: again, much appreciated and everyone have a wonderful day.
Speaker A: KC6SLE now that was a lot of fun, wasn't it? All right, let's check in now with Peter KD6QZH Federal Holiday. You have the day off. Are you going to squander it or are you going to go dance?
Speaker B: The.
Speaker E: Well, I do have a dance, but I got a lot to do. Going to help out a friend that is not doing that well who needs some assistance running some errands. I'm going to do a couple of short trips and then even though I have the day off, I have some work I have to get done because somebody and I won't provide my actual opinion about this. Changed the deadline. Just happened to mention casually in a phone call yesterday so I have to get something submitted so I'm gonna work a little bit today but you know they pay me well so I can't complain and I have a blessed life. Katie, you've reached back to you and I know this isn't an app.
Speaker A: All right, Peter. Well, that is, that is the way I know you are helping others and reluctant to have others help you and just sorry if somebody flipped your schedule on you. That is totally cruel for making you work on your holiday. But Peter, thanks for checking in this morning and have a wonderful Monday and be careful out there. You may end up swimming.
Speaker E: Yeah, I'm gonna do what I can. I've never wasted. I can't go out but I do have this out a little bit so it'll calm down. Okay, Brian, you take care. Well, good morning to everyone on the net. Good morning to Dan as well. Back to you.
Speaker A: Absolutely. Good morning to everyone on the net. And Dan, you have a great day. Peter, clearing with KD6QZH. Let's check in with that Dan KN6WQU Good morning.
Speaker B: Yes, sir. Wet. Wet it is. It is sincerely wet. Thanks, Peter. Good morning to you as well. This is KN6WQ. Morning Cox Breaknet. Well, I am debating if I'm gonna even go out into this. I wouldn't say heavy but mid to straight. Raindrops coming down so it's not sideways, the wind's not blowing really. So this is the kind of weather I can throw a 10 by 10 up and just have at it, so to speak. So there's a couple things I need to get taken care of. I need to install like a switch and a Mercedes for a window and there was supposed to be a transmission job at my house last night but that didn't show up so there's that. So I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. I might just enjoy the day off. Maybe sneak off and try to play some radio. That might hit me. Fun. I'm not sure if I can even do that or not but we might see how it goes. If anything, I think we might go play following me, Heather and Zane since Zane's having so that's probably what I'm doing. So anyway, this is kantixwq. Thanks for running the net today, Brian.
Speaker A: Well, if you need a little incentive, today is national Family day. So there we go. You have a wonderful day. And yes, this is the beginning of many, many days. I think Mark said that it looks like it's three storms back to back and probably higher than normal rainfall through the end of February for the west coast here. So, yeah, if you take today off, boy, I think if this is the, if this is the bar you're going to set, you may have a lot of days off in the next month.
Speaker B: Yeah, I understand that. I'm looking at the weather report. It's Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 81. So Wednesday is 34%. So I'm not sure how we're going to play this out though. This is going to be very strange. But yep, I might go get some things done while I have to sleep in it. Maybe we'll go play bowling later. How's that work? That job I was supposed to schedule today didn't show up anyway. So maybe I can play 6WQ.
Speaker A: All right, Dan, you have a wonderful day and I think it's a wonderful day to go hang out with the family and yeah, knock down a couple of pins. Kn6wqu.ai6us and let's check in. Let's head on over to Denver. K4LGI. Good morning, Sam.
Speaker F: Good morning, Brian, everybody. Nat here from Denver, 50 plus here and very sunny and cool breeze on this Lundy Grah, Bet Mundy and used to live down in New Orleans if you like that carnival music for a few minutes. The WWOZ is kind of a station that I occasionally pull up on my phone. Very pleased this morning to get the right coat on. And it's always this time of year, question of dressing right. Even if you check the phone out for the temperature or whatever, sometimes it doesn't work out. Kind of miss Arizona this time of year as spring is absolutely splendid. Been down there once for baseball spring training and short while that it's nothing like springtime in Arizona this time of year. So I keep it short in and out and I hope everybody has fine week here. K4LGI.
Speaker A: Yes indeed. I think springtime in Arizona is a wonderful time to be there. It's just all those months they wrap around it that get a little. Spring training. You bring up a great thing there. Spring training, of course, is how I got started in film and video production. And so yeah, spring training down in West Palm Beach, Florida, the Texas Rangers, that was kind of my start to film and video production with a good friend getting me a camera hopping job for that. So spring training is kind of near and dear to my heart. Good memories for that. Sam. You have a wonderful day and thanks for the hint. I, I think you said, was it Whiskey, Whiskey Zulu, WWZ New Orleans for Mardi Gras music. Woz the Oz.
Speaker F: I kind of miss being down in Catholic brands and getting an Irish coffee or something.
Speaker C: Anyway, we'll see you later.
Speaker F: K4LGI
Speaker A: okay, very good, WWOZ. Speaking of the Oz, we haven't heard from her in a long time. Hopefully she's okay. K4LGI AI6US. You have a great Monday, Sam. Thanks for checking in. And Good morning to Greg. KO60H. Our rain cup overfloweth.
Speaker C: Good morning, Brian. Good morning, everyone. Great. KO6 hi. I haven't gone out yet to check the mechanical. The physical rain cup, I expect. Yeah, it's going to be about half full according to the electronic one, which I don't trust, but seems pretty consistent with yours this morning. 2.37 since midnight. So yeah, it's been wet and it started about 10 last night. I was watching TV and all of a sudden there was just this noise outside. Oh my God. The skies opened up but the creek in the back, it's flowing pretty good. But nothing outrageous. It's not yet. So we'll see how that develops the video of Jeff's presentation. I've got a first pass added miracle upon miracle. With all of the failures we had, I had enough to stitch it back together. Yeah, even my setup. I was trying to help out with the overall the zoom experience. We lost one of the feeds over on the main desk, so I changed my view. I thought just the view on obs, but that also removed the microphone that I was using for recording the
Speaker B: so
Speaker C: we were down to my backup camera. Anyway, it's all there. You'll notice the change in audio as it goes through, but nothing too dramatic and it's so quite thankfully the room echo is minimal and you'll hear it definitely change, but not in a bad way. Anyway, going to hunker down today. The batteries are charged and actually going to venture out for lunch with daughter and brother's daughter and her fiance for lunch today. So we'll see how that goes. Ko6th back to that
Speaker A: very cool lunch with the daughter and her sounds like her cousin, your niece. Very cool. And thank you so much for getting just presentation, recording and stitching it back together and really looking forward to seeing that one. He had some great information about mesh in general or Lora and then a little bit of focus on the system that we've installed along with his direction and his organization for the area on the mesh core. So I'm looking forward to probably fast forward Cumievo rewinding and reviewing many times. He had so much good information?
Speaker C: Oh yeah. I mean, while I was watching it, I mean, of course I was there live. You know, I watched through and going back and editing it, I found a whole bunch of stuff that I had not. Not sunk in the first time through. So even if you were there, this is definitely one that's worth reviewing when it comes out. But on video, there's a lot of. He's got a lot of detail in this presentation and he claims 30 minutes. It actually took 45, but who's counting? It's all good stuff. And I have agreed that we'll be working on follow ups to this to see how the technology can be used and is being used for the hobby. So there'll be future videos. We're not going to put them back to back, but other stuff down the road on general topics. This is a peek into the future, as the introduction says, and we'll see how that goes. Anyway, everybody stay dry and we'll talk to you later. Ko6th
Speaker A: yeah, I was just thinking of some of these, the implementations.

Speaker A: That could be done with something like this. As far as sweep riders doing these different events, there are so many applications that this could be used for for a local radio system and something off grid and just a fascinating potential. I don't know if I'm any more prepared than I was before to know exactly what hardware I need to be bombed, but I'm going to watch that video once or twice more and then probably reach out and find out, you know, what, what gear. Because I do want to get involved in the mesh core project. It looks like it would be very interesting to be part of this initial launch here. K06th AI6US Happy Monday to you.
Speaker B: Happy Monday, Brian.
Speaker A: And you just clarified what I think our next presentation needs to be on.
Speaker B: 68. 73
Speaker C: oh.
Speaker A: Oh my, oh my. Wash my mouth out with soap. Ko6thai6us Coffee Breaknet and good morning, Glendos. Ko6lgb Happy Monday. Good morning.
Speaker D: Good morning. Happy Monday. Little wet here in North Natomas. Going to be inside this morning studying as usual for the general exam and practicing the piano, attempting to be public with it someday. Just happy to hear the net and hear everybody doing well today. This is Glenn, 73 kilo Oscar 6 Lima Golf Papa.
Speaker A: All right, Glenn, well, you have a wonderful day. I think you've chosen a good side of the door to be on today. And yep, between. Between studying for the next amateur radio exam and plinking away on the ivories. Sounds like a wonderful way to spend the day. K06LGP AI6US73. Well, how all y' all doing back there in Tennessee? Ak6du do you have the day off?
Speaker B: Yeah, at least I hope so. Otherwise I feel like my boss would have texted me by now and said, hey, where are you?
Speaker A: Very good. Well, good morning to you. Hopefully all is well with you. And what are you going to be doing with this wonderful time off? I know probably with the new house, you probably have a dozen projects you're working on.
Speaker B: Yeah, unfortunately, that is kind of the case. You know, it's a beautiful day here. Sorry that y' all have rain, but yeah, sun is shining. Nice time, temperature out. We were gonna go do a PODA this morning, but I decided to sleep in instead. Take advantage of the fact that I wasn't working, but Thomas was actually out getting stuff right for home project. We're trying to build some raised planters in our backyard. And then we've been here almost a year now. So we're also taking the day to cover our house and blue tape all the last Minute things for them to come fix before we hit our year mark.
Speaker A: Oh, the little torn pieces of tape on the walls. And hopefully there aren't many little pieces of blue tape. How was the construction experience? Because I know you were not in town for quite a bit of it, but how did that turn out for.
Speaker B: It definitely left a little bit to be desired. We're definitely finding lots of things to blue tape, and we've had them come and fix quite a few things throughout the year. The benefit of that is our entire downstairs floor has been completely replaced. Now that I think about it, most of our upstairs floor has been completely replaced. And we had a couple of other nice things like that that we probably shouldn't have needed to replace within the first few months. But you know what, now it's all shiny and pretty and good for us, I guess.
Speaker A: Oh, other than working around the construction dust. So I did not hear about this. So what happened to the flooring that required upstairs and downstairs replacement? That sounds pretty major. Not just a color choice, I assume.
Speaker B: The upstairs. It was. I don't totally understand it all, I'll be honest, but I guess our walls are floating walls or the floor is floating. I don't know, something. But either way, there were just massive, massive creaks every time that you walked around. And yes, that happens a little bit as the house settles, but it was to the extreme. So we got them to come fix that. I don't know, I think they just did something to attach it better to the walls. I didn't quite understand Downstairs, however, we noticed we have that, I don't know, vinyl wood stuff, and there were these huge gaps in some of the pieces that definitely hadn't been there before. And it turned out it was because it was uneven. Again, I don't fully understand it all, I'll be honest, but they had to come right, rip it all up and pour something down to even it all out and then lay it down again. Yeah, it's been quite the experience.
Speaker A: It sounds like it is. Yes, indeed. That's unfortunate. And it does sound like it's just something, you know, you hate to blame things on the house settling in or, you know, weight distribution as you move furniture in and everything else. But yeah, something like that. You know, you've. You've paid a good amount of money and you have a reasonable expectation for it to be done right. So, yeah, sorry to hear that you went through that. But yes, you kind of got the renewed new house smell and experience throughout the year. Well, let's. So, yeah, Thomas was talking about how he was doing some 5 gallon raised planters for somebody else. So is that what you're going to. He sent over a picture of the project. Is that what you're going to be doing for your backyard or are you working on something else?
Speaker B: It is not. I actually really don't like the look of those five gallon bucket planters, but I know they're super trendy right now. We made the first batch for someone who had requested them and then posted the picture just on our little neighborhood chat and already has a whole bunch of people reaching out, wanting him to build them for them too. So they're very popular for other people. For us, we're just doing the. I don't know how to explain them, but they're like four foot by four foot just in the ground. Raised planter beds. And yeah, we're gonna hopefully plant some things and maybe be successful. Hopefully.
Speaker A: All right. Are these going to be the bulls that you're planting there? That didn't sound right, did it garden in there or flowers? And by the way, Tom just kind of texted me here that he was having a little trouble hearing you, so you might want to check your audio levels on your new note there. Your audio is nice and clear, but it is a little bit low.
Speaker B: Oh, we'll have to go play with it. I guess that'll be added to the. The list of things to do today as well. Yes, they're going to be hopefully for a garden. Thomas keeps asking me what I want to grow, and so far I've told him about 20 different types of tomatoes. And he's claiming that we have to grow other things too. We can't just grow tomatoes.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker A: But let's just think about what goes great with tomatoes. Maybe a little cilantro on the side. Make sure you got some onion sets in there, some garlic. Yeah, I have some basil. Yeah, I think that's a good anchor plant.
Speaker C: 10 kinds of basil, KK 6am.
Speaker B: Tomato basil sauce, throw some sage in there. Just all sorts of fun yumminess.
Speaker A: Yes, indeed. Well, very cool. Will, so glad to have you drop by this morning and give us a little bit of your time. Your list of things to do today, check in. So great that that node. You got a node working now and I notice it's connected up to us quite often. It's great to hear you guys regularly again. So don't be strangers. I know you have your own. You have your new ham family back there, but so glad that you didn't completely leave us behind. In the divorce.
Speaker B: Yeah, we've really enjoyed having the note up and just having the radio kind of in the background listening to all the craziness that happens on this repeater. Yeah, we definitely didn't realize how much we were going to miss some of that just silliness going on all the time.
Speaker A: Well, you're always welcome to come back to any of our events and we'll look forward to. You know, I know you have a reason to stop in Auburn and hopefully it's around a time when we can stop and say hello and visit for a while. We certainly miss you guys and miss your energy and you guys brought a lot of wonderful energy and you know I was thinking, oh man, you know, you guys were getting people out there on the potas and. Yeah, and then we lose you to another state. They are so lucky. Well, good morning to you. You and Thomas have a wonderful Monday.
Speaker B: Thank you. And yeah, we miss you guys too. And I do have to because I think we're getting known for pulling people out and doing podas here too. So I guess that's just our reputation no matter what state we're in. But anyway I'll let you get back to the Nessa. It's good talking with you and yeah, hopefully we can come visit and see everyone sometime soon this year. It'd be nice but yeah, have a great morning and a great Monday. Back to the coffee break. Nessa, this is AK60 you.
Speaker A: Yes indeed. Well if you're just known for bringing people out for PODA activations, that's a good thing. You know, a lot of times people from California are blamed for bringing their California ways to our state. We don't take kindly to that. So it sounds like you're bringing a positive energy to your group there. You have a wonderful day. Christine, as always a pleasure. Ak6duai6us73. Good morning. Coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater. And let's see, we are boy already at 9:20am going to be continuing the coffee breaknet through 10am so another 40, 40 minutes. Let's go ahead and start taking regular check ins again. And welcome to the Coffee breaknet. Who's out there this morning?
Speaker C: Kilo Oscar 6 Bravo Mike Alpha for a quick in and out.
Speaker A: All right, had a double in there but I see the chip checked in KM6 MDF. Good morning. Or somebody using his node. And good morning to Garrett K06BMA. Garrett for in and out. Did I miss anyone? Anyone else? Good morning Garrett KO6BMA. Tell me about all your adventures with those new license privileges or whatever you want to talk about. Good morning.
Speaker C: Yeah, that's. That's where I've been playing. 20 meters is pretty interesting. This is KO6PMA Garrett in Placerville. Yesterday I was spinning the dial and you were speaking about potas and man, the airwaves are just jammed up with hunters. The pileups are kind of comical. I was having trouble getting through on some of them over.
Speaker A: No, it's quite interesting. You know, as POTA started out, I think it was about nine years ago, there was a of parks on the air that was sponsored by the ARRL. I think that was in 2017, as I recall, maybe 2018. And then it just kind of took off after that as kind of something that organically happened. People, you know, just saw it as a wonderful opportunity to get out of the shack and operate portable. And yeah, to me it's a little puzzling for all of the chase and activating what's going on, but it really doesn't matter what I think because it's getting people on the air. It's an awesome thing. I give out POTA activations when we are in a park and operating for another event. And anything that gets people on the air, you gotta say, kudos, Roger.
Speaker C: That's what's keeping me interested. And trying to find that really light signal in the background in the haze and the sizzling baking, as it were, I found a couple of really interesting connections. And also there's a couple of other nets that just happen and they're happy to have a new guy join in. So quite interesting how expansive the general license becomes over. Absolutely.
Speaker A: You know, with your technician license, you're kind of limited on what you can do for hf. But I must say, in this hobby, I know I spend a lot of time here on the Peter with the coffee breaknet, but my true love is hf. There is no doubt about it. Just, you know, that ability just to work around the world, finding out what band is open by the time of the day, how the activity is for solar, you know, the ionosphere, just everything coming together. It is pure magic. Definitely.
Speaker C: I'm pretty surprised at how far I can hear. I can hear from, you know, South America to Canada. Now it's a matter of just getting and seeing if they can hear me. I'm having a blast. That's all I can say. There's a lot of space out there.
Speaker A: Yes, indeed. You know, and something that you need to kind of, you know, that's a wonderful opportunity Kind of develop different antennas or different install techniques that are, you know, there are some antennas that are great listening antennas but don't do squat when it comes to transmitting. So, you know, that's the part of the hobby that I absolutely love is antennas because, you know, it does. It doesn't really matter how much power you put out. If you can't hear a station or work them, you're just a short wave listener. Well, Garrett, once again, glad to have you as part of our group and I understand that you are willing to take on a very probably one of the most important roles for Summer Field Day. I don't know if you know this yet, but it was told to me that you, you were.
Speaker C: I accept. Thank you.
Speaker A: So Garrett has accepted the role of head chef for the, for the dinner, for the barbecue. And I know we all chip in and help, but there is one leader of the orchestra. So we're looking forward to that, Garrett. And thank you for stepping up. I know I gotta say, the chicken that you barbecued, I think it was last year or the year before, was probably some of the best barbecue chicken I've ever had in my life. And I'm not just doing that to stroke your ego. If you stepping into this role brings that level of food prep to our senses, I am all for it. But thanks for stepping in there.
Speaker C: Comment kilo golf6. You know, I'm paying it this way. I'm sure you guys have done the same for others, so it just seems like the next step to do. And now that I'm retired, I can dedicate some time to working with Mark and getting this transition nice and smooth and have a fantastic meal for you guys over.
Speaker A: Well, very good. We look forward to that and we definitely will be inviting you on and assisting you in many ways. Getting on a roll again this year for Field Day, being the Antenna, the head of Antenna setup and Matt K06 imp will be my assistant this year. And then of course, I think up next will be Chip, who typically really just steps in there and does an exquisite job of helping us. I don't know if he's going to be available, but yes, we are a team and we put on one of the best field days in Northern California, no doubt. Well, with that I'm going to go ahead and clear with you there, Garrett. And then we'll be taking a comment here in a second from, from Frank. So go ahead, Garrett, if there's anything final and then we'll clear and then pick up the comments
Speaker C: just quickly. I'll be looking for somebody K06 to be my second. So keep that in mind. Guys, give me a hand and
Speaker A: have a great day.
Speaker C: Brian, thanks for running the net. KO6 VMA clear.
Speaker A: All right. Anybody who's listening into this net, you know, being involved with your radio community, I know a lot of people are against clubs or anything else like that, but when it comes down to field day, field day is probably one of the best ways to introduce somebody into the amateur radio hobby and community. And so just, just a big to if you, you know, if you have.

Speaker A: Any activity going on in your area or you don't something. It's a great way to reach into your community and let folks know about amateur radio and how much fun we do have. KG6NLW, who woke up from his bear nap for a comment. Go ahead, Frank.
Speaker B: Well, the bear nap has yet to happen, Brian, but I've been listening and he said, I think it was antenna. And the way you said it, the Wisconsinite in you, the Wisconsin in you came out. I just had to mention that it was hilarious. I heard that and I'm like, oh yeah, Brian's Wisconsin without knowing it.
Speaker A: Okay, yes. Probably a lot of things come out my mouth that I'm not aware of. Thanks for pointing that out. All right. Chip, is that you? Km6mdf, did they let you off work and are you using that valuable time to check in with us? Good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning, brian. Yeah, km6 mdf, let me know. Can you hear me okay?
Speaker A: Can you hear me now? Yes, we hear you. Just great. Good morning.
Speaker C: Morning. Yeah, I just wanted to make sure that it was clear before. I had a lot of gobbly goof coming across the repeater.
Speaker D: So.
Speaker A: Yeah, sounds good.
Speaker D: Yeah, I'm off.
Speaker C: Pam's off. We took the opportunity to come to the cabin and it was raining, but during the night and it was still raining. And then I and looked out and
Speaker A: I go, oh, that's not snow.
Speaker C: So if anybody wants to know, it's snowing between, I guess, well, not that far down, but between Whitehall and Silver Fork. So I guess it's been raining down in the valley as well.
Speaker A: Oh yeah, in this event since yesterday after last evening, about 10 o' clock between then and now. Let me look at an update. Yeah, we've gotten 3.2 inches of rain since o' clock last night. So when this translates into snow, how much snow have you gotten up there?
Speaker C: I think it started to. Well, I don't know how long it's been snowing, but it's coming down. It's coming down wet and it's coming down pretty good. So it's not that heavy, but it's steady. So instead of just sitting around for the day, I think we might just move towards packing up and getting out of here. Just don't want to deal with whatever happens on the road. Hopefully that's in our rear view. Yeah, but we're not trying to rush to get out of here. But yeah, I'm looking out, it's coming down pretty well. So try to get ahead of it. It's just still Snowing in Meadow Vista?
Speaker A: No, the snow hasn't made it down this far yet. I'm looking out and it's just been rain. No formulation of snow or anything or sloppy stuff. So it's still at a higher elevation, but wow. I just. In the back of my mind, I picture a Norman Rockwell scene of you guys sitting in front of the fireplace, maybe just finishing off the pancakes, looking out the window watching the snow fall. Boy, I don't know. I would not want to put that in my rear view mirror other than. Did you bring chains?
Speaker C: No. And you know, I don't think they're gonna ask me about them if I'm on my way down. But yeah, I didn't.
Speaker A: That's.
Speaker C: What about getting out here though? And I didn't bring the. Normally I don't need chains with the truck, so. And I didn't. We brought the interceptor up, so. And that's all wheel drive, so that's okay. But making. Getting traction might be an issue, but I just, you know, we'll take it slow and steady, but I think I just don't, you know, the other folks on the road, I don't want to have to deal with. That's kind of the idea.
Speaker A: No understand. It's not our driving ability, it's their inability. I get it. Well, it was so great to see you and Pam at the club meeting on Friday evening and definitely I'm glad to hear you guys got away and spent a little time up at the cabin and actually, you know, if you didn't have to worry about others and getting home, it certainly sounds very idyllic.
Speaker D: Yeah, it is.
Speaker C: And it was great. That venue man got up to speak and I was like, no mic, no echo. And you know, actually, you know, the being close to where people are is even better because in the other place, you know, There is probably 10ft, but
Speaker D: you know, they're further back so it's
Speaker C: a little more cozy and with the technical abilities there, you know, it's great. Smitty over front of the house, over on the side there, making things happen and Greg recording and you know, that
Speaker D: was the first time.
Speaker C: I imagine after a couple times we'll have it down and. And get all the bugs work. So yeah, that was great, you know, not having to move chairs around and re. Strike and reset for something else that's going to happen. And it was great to see you and everybody, a lot of new faces and they got some folks interested in helping in my area at Hamfest.
Speaker D: So
Speaker C: yeah, it's going to be great. So anyways, I probably spoke enough talked too much, but I'll get out of here and let others check in. Thanks Brian and you and Lynn enjoy the day and we'll catch up soon. AI6 US KM6 MDF. Enjoy the Monday 73
Speaker A: Glad to hear that you were able to connect with some people wanting to volunteer with the upcoming Ham Fest. Ham Fest is definitely volunteer intensive and rare is the year that I think we end up with under probably 50 or 60 volunteers working that event. So yeah, it's one of those calls for all hands on deck and yeah, you know, 50 or 60 out of 350 members isn't bad but we definitely want people to consider volunteering the biggest and first and best I may add. Swap Pam swap meet in Northern California coming up March 28th. Looking forward to that and thank you for everything that you and Pam do to support the club and the amateur radio community and for being great friends. KN6MDF AI6US. You have a wonderful time at the cabin and hate to hear that it's going to be in the rear view mirror soon, but that's life. 7 3. Good morning. Coffee breaknet on the W6EK repeater. The W6EK repeater is located in Northern California and we just have this net every day of the week, 7:30am to 10:00am Pacific Time. So welcome to join us and be part of the conversation. We are a conversation net. We do allow some for the log only check ins at the end of the event after you know, right around 10 o'. Clock. But we we just tried to get to know each other a little bit better and we have created some great friendships getting to know each other and and we have a ton of fun. You never know what we're going to talk about. Heck net control never knows what you're going to talk about. That's what guides the conversation. Good morning coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater. Taking check ins. If you're short on time and just want to say a quick hello and be on your way, let me know that you want to be in and out otherwise taking check ins. Good morning. Happy Monday
Speaker D: N6MED Good morning Brian.
Speaker A: Good morning Brian from WH6Q. Oh my gosh. Two two gyms back to back wh good morning Jim and N6 Med. Good morning Jim. Did I miss anyone else other than those Jims? Well I'm going to feel healthy here because I'm going to head over to gym.
Speaker D: The gym
Speaker A: and 6 med. You're going to be Jim number one today good morning
Speaker D: good morning in copy I'm Jim one versus Jim two other folks might know not know that we had a Bob 1 and a Bob Bob 2 once upon a time at any rate not a lot to report this morning other than it sure is damp but I've been in radio wise I've been playing quite a bit with the new release of Varac for those who don't know it's a keyboard keyboard chat mode using the Vera modem and it it seems like the fellow who is the prime mover on it who's in Israel I'm getting the feeling the guy isn't married or has so much time in his hands all he can do is pound code in for adding little features to the program because it seems to be like almost the feature of the week not quite that bad but almost but for anybody that wants to play with it I think it eclipses JS8 call let me break so I don't time out and with its features with its performance certainly with a good path it'll rival pactor 3 not that anybody can type that fast but it will rival it. You can send files with now has a BBS feature you can send email to any station that identifies as an email gateway and one thing that's kind of a cool toy that might have some application is an AI portal so again any station that identifies it has a AI portal and the way they identify by the way is by way of beaconing and a little icon showing up to the affected a receive stations window and with AI application like this consider oh I'll even consideration for you Brian. You're up camping there up in the Sierra with your truck and you if you have Starlink and it fails or you don't have Starlink you're up there outside of any cell path and you see a header of smoke that is looks like it's too damn close for comfort and you can go on to var AC look at a station that is beaconing with AI and you can just make an inquiry and say I'm at location such and such could be lat long or whatever and is there any fires reported in the area or you need weather or something like that. So anyway that's the thing I've been playing with making some good contacts and it's a chit chat mode it's not like FT8 where it's slam bam thank you ma'.
Speaker A: Am. Well thank you very much for kind of the overview of rac. I frankly have as about just great difficulty Keeping up with all the new features. And you're right, he must not be married or if he's married, he's much happier in his coding room. But yeah, that's if I have one complaint about RAC is it is so rapidly evolving that I just have trouble keeping up with all the features. But the features he very cognizant of the needs of the E Com community as well as the AI portal. Your example, great example because as you know you get up into the foothills here and you would think oh great, I'm up in the mountains, cell service will be great. No, cell service almost becomes non existent in many areas up there even when you're sitting on top of a mountaintop. So very good example of how you might use that a portal feature. Well thanks Jim, appreciate that. And then let's see how much activity are you seeing on VAR ac? Are you seeing, you know, open bands being actively supported or people? You know, when I first got involved it seemed like everybody was hanging on 20 meters. Are you finding that people are spreading out to actually the bands that following propagation?
Speaker D: Well, my history with Varsi I don't know how long. Well you've been playing with it maybe as long as I have too. I don't know if it's been around for a couple of years and I remember it surfacing and playing with it kind of getting lost in it. It was a little bit overwhelming. So my learning curve has been incremental now of late because my NFIT wire came down late last year or maybe mid year I've been band limited so the only thing I've been up on is 20 and I've got such a poor location here that even looking at an SDR like the one over in Half Moon Bay, KFS Gila Foxtrot Sierra, where it looks like the band is just going crazy. I could barely hear them now addressing specifically keyboard data. I had just couldn't see the activity on JSA call and earlier there are very limited activity on on Bare ac. One of the primary complaints on the forums was people would say okay, well I'm seeing all these people beacon and I usually see a fair stream of beacons that are popping up. I don't see anybody calling CQ and within, you know, since I started really putting my head buried my head into the documentation and trying to learn it for the past several months I've been seeing a real increase in activity in people calling cq even PODA activations with it. So from my narrow perspective it seems like there is a lot more activity than I've seen. And the signal to noise on the paths has been really respectable for making a contact, for responding to a CQ or even throwing a CQ out there and somebody coming back. But you know, I qualify it with. I'm kind of looking through it a straw just because, you know, I fairly, I feel fairly limited in my setup.
Speaker A: Go ahead. Great information on that. That's something I had observed as well, that a lot of people out there were beaconing. You'd get an auto response, you get your signal report and you were just wondering if it was just turning into another, you know, FTA type of an exchange. And good to hear that there are actually some keyboard lawyers out there. Excellent. Well, Jim, thanks for. Thanks for that. And I know that N9 MUF Daniel takes part in VAR AC Wednesday and
Speaker D: Wednesday is a day that they do
Speaker A: check ins on VAR ac. It's kind of a net check in for that and so he's been encouraging a lot of us to get involved on VAR AC and especially to participate on VAR AC Wednesday. Well Jim, with that I'll turn it over to you and see if you have anything else for the net this morning. But thanks for dropping by this morning. Great information on VAR ac.
Speaker D: Yeah, just a couple closing points. I did contact him about the query that I had. It was about trying to do send a specifically to transmit or an email the virtual mail or email to a receiving station and have an automatic disconnect and it has to be done manually. That was the short of it and just kind of a comparison closing comparison between JS8Call and their AC. And I see this from the forums. I guess 8Call was a lot of popularity to it. In fact somebody I follow who plays with stuff in austerity.

Speaker A: Environments, field environments. Oh 8stn Justin Julian. I'm sorry, Julian White up there in Finland and he was a strong proponent of JSA call. Well, apparently one of the big complaints is it's not really supported. There's been nothing new with seems like the original author of it or whatever. There's just no support network. Contrast that with VAR AC and there's VO COO support. Apparently Irad Deutsch, the bit twiddler who
Speaker B: wrote
Speaker A: VAR AC has got a support team that are all of them work on it, including a couple of people who contribute to the manual and they're a little bit behind the curve now for the manual because of the latest version but the prior version is well documented and so there's tons of information. Good responses on the forums. You go on to the main website for VAR AC and I think there's at least three forums, one a general one, another one for suggestions to what one would like to see happen with their AC and one dedicated to mcom. So I would say in parting that if anybody wants to play with a keyboard to keyboard, whether it be a quick slam bam, thank you ma', am, which you can do with Vera or want to have a conversation,
Speaker C: it's a
Speaker A: mode that I'm beginning to really enjoy and I would just encourage anybody to give it a shot and see what you think of it. So with that I'll bow out Brian, to your next paying customer there and everybody stay on the dry side of the door. This is N6 immediate.
Speaker B: Yeah, I observed something very similar on the JSA call and what's quite interesting, Winter Field day still relies quite heavily on the JSA call for the contact mode and I think a lot of people kind of have not kept up with the development of the VAR AC just in that it used to be a very frequency specific mode and they really discouraged people using it for, for contacts, you know, for, you know, portable operation for contest and that sort of thing. It was really frowned on but I think that's changing as they open it up and to use other frequencies other than the main published calling frequency. Good morning Jim. You have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking in this morning and giving us your opinions and direction For Vara Navara AC Clearing within 6 Med AI 6 US Coffee Breaknet 73. Let's go over to secondary gym. May you view yourself differently than dose Jim dose WH6Q Good morning.
Speaker C: Okay. Yeah, I've been thinking about going back to Jed. That's my initials Juliet Echo Delta or possibly Chemo to stay up with my Hawaii call. But anyway. Yeah, I was wondering, I heard you mention something about Medford. Did you know w7ffj full flask and a jigger? I used to talk to him all the time back in the day when I was out doing field service work over.
Speaker B: No, I'm kind of a late comer to amateur radio here on the west coast. I held a license living down in the country of Haiti in about 1981 but then did not get my license in the US until about eight years ago. So yeah, I'm not too connected with the old school community there. But I do know there's a lot of amateur radio operators who live in the Medford area.
Speaker C: His name was Otto. I think he's long since Silent Key. That was back in the 80s and 90s. I used to always work him. Occurred to me, beautiful day here. I guess probably you got an update already on Tennessee but fog, fog, fog early this morning and probably about the time. Well probably about the time you guys opened the net here, it started burning off and it's really a nice day
Speaker B: today
Speaker C: and yeah, you're absolutely right. You know, Field day is probably the most important event for everybody to get out and attend and I don't go to them like I used to. Motivated me to get on HF and all back when I was a technician in California and maybe. No, I was a technician. I was a novice for a year before I ever did anything. And then I got a technician license at the Imac museum and
Speaker B: Katie bar
Speaker C: the door spent all kinds of money
Speaker B: on everything in the world.
Speaker C: But yeah, it's getting close to 12 o' clock so I won't keep you. I wanted to ask you about Otto though. I thought possibly you knew him if
Speaker B: you lived up there.
Speaker C: I used to, I did, I talked to him frequently. He only had a couple hours he operated so I just tried to make sure I was between calls during the time he would get on 17. That was back when 17 was very first opened. Okay, I guess that's about it. Brian, everybody have a good day. Try to stay warm and dry but
Speaker B: we got a nice day here today.
Speaker C: Whiskey Hotel six Quebec.
Speaker B: I don't know, just. Let's just throw it out there and just see if anybody knew Otto out of the Medford area back, back in the 80s, 90s, I don't know, throw it out there and see if anybody familiar with him. I'm sure it's one of those names that get past folklore for the folks in that community. Yes, definitely. Field Day is you Know a lot of people kind of get turned off from the big group of people who just come in to socialize and you know maybe limited resources to work radios and such. But you know it's just one of those days where you have that opportunity to invite new people in or people to operate outside of their typical privileges. You know with a control operator and you know have some wonderful social activities. We put on quite the event for our club with dinners and barbecues and presentations and we do it as almost a five day event for setup and we just have a wonderful time. So yeah a great opportunity to really put the best foot forward for amateur radio. Well Jim, have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking in this morning. WH6Q AI6US73.
Speaker C: Three is one more thing. You know Otto Auto and Bill or used to talk all the time back when 12 meters was open and 17 was just a hope to do thing. I forget what they called them now the band testers or whatever. And that's how I got to listening to him to begin with and then he, he would area where I worked with it back then in the 90s. No I guess it was the 80s traffic net that was out of the guy was that called it every night was up there in Medford. Anyway 73 and yeah guys operate a lot like back when I first got my ticket any like that anymore. W86Q73.
Speaker B: We have a couple of club members who go okay, when does the ferris wheel and pony rides arrive? We do, we do field day up big. We kind of get a little ribbon for it. Have a great day Jim. Clearing with WH6Q I'm Brian AI6US we are one minute away from the top of the hour. Well about 30 cents away from the top of the hour now about 20 seconds away from the top of the hour. So with that go ahead and go into the wrap up mode and just take for the log to finish out the coffee breaknet for this morning. So just invite anybody in who would like to get their call sign in the log and let's see just let's do a quick review. Oh this evening of course the VE team is operating in Folsom, California. So if you want to get your upgrade or know anybody who's looking to get their license today, February 16th Folsom, California the Folsom VE Team if you want more information head on over to hamstudy.org and they are meeting tonight 6pm in Folsom. Speaker A: I wouldn't do that.
Speaker B: I just was going to mention to you 2 1/2 inches of rain since 10 o' clock last night. So that's pretty much 12 hours. Casey 6 Phillip. We just hit 3.5 inches since it started at 10 o' clock last night. So, yeah, we definitely have some rivers passing through.
Speaker A: Well, good job.
Speaker B: And I think it's going to turn to snow at lower elevations, probably not
Speaker A: at our elevation for a while.
Speaker B: But I was looking at the cams
Speaker A: up at Tahoma and it's supposedly snowing
Speaker B: up there, but I don't see it in the cameras outside the house up there, but it's coming. KC6SLA, go get some breakfast, get some nourishment. Why am I sounding weak? I will. Yes. No, Pam. Chip and Pam were up at the cabin this weekend and they were saying that it's snowing up there, you know, right up.

Speaker A: Right up the road there from. From Placerville on 50. So yeah they were having a good amount of snow dump. In fact they're gonna probably leave a little early to come home. So it's, it's coming down.
Speaker B: They must be up by Strawberry.
Speaker A: Oh boy. You would ask White. White Silver or something like that comes to mind. I know it's. It's past the OHV area where you head on up to Big Hill. So it's definitely
Speaker B: at the two
Speaker A: lane version of 50. Yeah, yeah probably. As I recall it was probably 20, 20 some miles out of Placerville. Yeah,
Speaker B: it's well, well above the turnoff to Union Valley Reservoir which is not too far out of Pollock Pines. Well that's good. We need the snow so let it dump anyway. Go take care of what you need to take care of. I'm going to go back doing a few things for the club and then back out to work. We got the. We closed up the main doors. This 12 by 16 doors we touched. Tarped them over yesterday. So I went out and checked on my son. Brought him some hot tea and he's as snug as a bug in there. Not letting him in the house though. I kick him out during the day.
Speaker A: Go earn your keep. Well, you're getting your money back on that investment.
Speaker B: Money back on the investment on having children. That's good. Anyway, take care. 73
Speaker A: KC6SOLE. My repayment so far has been a beautiful granddaughter. So it's a good start. Have a great day. Oh and just the pleasure of seeing your daughter be successful in life.
