W6GRC TX (147.105 MHz) recordings for 2026-02-18
Home of the original 105 with a PL tone of 110.9. This is the W6 GRC repeater. Join us for our weekly net on Monday nights at 8:00pm.
Speaker A: Kl6mgk, m6am.
Speaker B: Okay, well, yeah, on this repeater you have to push the talk maybe a quarter of a second before you talk. I think it cut out the first part of your transmission. But also it was a little scratchy. So I wonder how it's coming back. I also wonder if you're putting out only five watts or whatever. I'm putting out about 20. I'm at, you know, half power, mid power on the FTM 400. But I did hear you. Kilo, November 6th, my golf kilo in Chico.
Speaker A: Yeah, this is actually 147.705. So that's a little different. But I thought this is what you meant anyway. Yeah, I hear you just fine. I'm putting out 15 losses. But Corning. This repeater pegs my meter over here. So I don't think I need to be on high power. This thing may need to have the audio turned up a little bit. I think this mic.
Speaker B: Yeah, this is a 147, 105. When you push your push to talk button, it goes over to the trans to the transmit frequency. So in case anyone's listening. Yeah, the output frequency at 147, 105 tone is 110.3. It's All Starlink enabled. So in the mornings they generally play the coffee break net from the W6ek repeater anyway. So. Yeah, this one's connected. Link connected using All Star. Anyway, it's one that some of my friends have put up. Have done a pretty good job. Should be pegging your meter because it's got a lot of power compared to these others. Location is Red Mountain. So it's straight across the valley from you.
Speaker A: Over. Yeah, if I remember correctly, I can get into this one with my little balcony. This has always been a repeater. Yeah, I could get into this and take the meter on that little bow tank. We lived in Chico, so that was a while ago. So I didn't know you actually put this repeater up. I didn't know you were even connected with it. Good for you.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, I didn't put up this repeater or anything like that, but friends of mine have and they moved it from Corning. It was actually around Pasquinta. It was moved to bed north of that. So anyway, it's across the valley from you, so maybe it's still a little. Probably still a little bit south of you there. So anyway, you'd probably have better luck getting into it with your Baofeng than you did before. So it's probably the better location in that regard. I don't know. But. But yeah, this is not the Carla repeater. The Carla 36 repeater probably performed pretty good for you too. And anyway, but yeah, we're not hearing you on five two. So all we're hearing is a little bit of scratch. He could make out an 2, 2 letters of your call. So I can hear scratchiness at about F1 noise floor. So. But I'm on my short antenna right now, so it'd be in that way for a while anyway. I would have work to do to change my antenna location to get up a little higher myself. So I've kind of wanted to be a little less. Less conspicuous lately. Anyway, so anyway, that's the way it goes sometimes.
Speaker A: So your good antenna fell down or something, Is that the deal?
Speaker B: Yeah, my tall antenna, the best antenna I got, Diamond X510. It's at 100ft in a tree without any feed line attached. So fell down a long time ago now at this point. And never wanted to pay a climber to go back up there to try to restring it up there. If I did so send the climber up there, he'd be taking it down, I'd be done with it. So I'd probably still use it, you know, as long as it worked. But anyway, I've got another, another 18 foot tall antenna to put up. But when I do, it'll probably be about 30ft, so kind of where I had it before. And it'll have some decent gain on it because it's a tall antenna. But it'll probably get over to Oroville no problem when I put it up. But it won't go as far as the other one would at 100ft, of course.
Speaker A: Okay, I remember now since you stirred my memory. I remember I tried to get you to put that. Because if you ever had a problem with it that way, all you got to do
Speaker B: really easy.
Speaker A: But everybody has their own way of doing things. But I've got a good friend of mine that's a climber. So we can, we can get up that tree pretty quick and hook your coax back up. And also do that pulley thing that I told you about a few years ago. So you can just bring that up and down anytime you want to and mess with it. I mean, I did that for a lot of years up there in paradise. All of my antennas sitting in 125 foot pine trees. I was always lowering those things up and down and adjusted them. So yeah, that's the best way anyhoo yeah, the antenna. I'm, you know, that's my, my big antenna. But I just got it leaned up against the house right now. I don't even have it up. I've been, I've been wanting to climb up on the roof and mount it. I haven't done it.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, what I have, in case you were interested in it, is one of those roof mount things. It's got like a tripod, like three legs that you can put in different spots and mount that to the roof somewhere or somehow. And then inside of it's where you put a mast so you can clamp down a mast to it to raise it above that. You said you may not need it or you have your other ideas or whatever, that's fine. But just letting you know in the case that that would be helpful at all.
Speaker A: Yeah, I could use that. Put the beam up on that. Yeah, that would be fantastic. But I need to put a rotor on that thing so I can Turn it around. M6AMM.
Speaker B: Yep. I have one of those tiny beams too, but I have no desire to put it up because nobody wants to talk on sideband anyway.
Speaker A: So.
Speaker B: Although I do have a couple friends now that have bought rigs that are capable. So we'll see. One has an antenna just like that too. And he might put. Put it up in Orland. So we'll see. So when he wants to talk inside band someday, then maybe I can put mine up too. But I won't put any rotor on it. Nothing. I'll just go outside and turn it his direction, that's all. Not that hard of a task. I don't have any care that I want to go much further than, you know, Sacramento. That's far enough anyway. I've reached Sacramento on it before.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, when it's mounted on the
Speaker B: roof,
Speaker A: you can't just walk outside, turn it. You have to climb up on the roof. Roof and mess around. Yeah, yeah. I'd rather have a rotor on that thing so I can just point it. He was, like I said, almost meter. And then all of a sudden he went out. I watched this signal just dropped like a rock. He went down. So something happened. Whether it started raining or something, something blocked the signal and things changed.
Speaker B: Well, I would bet that hardly anyone understood anything you just said. So this way, you know, you're probably Q4 quality and about half of what you're saying is making the repeater. So I don't know. Yeah, it could just be conditions like you kind of alluded to. I don't know, but yeah, we could try. We could try a different repeater to see. See how that sounds. You want to try Carlo 36 real quick?
Speaker A: Okay, we can do that, or we can go back to the paradise repeater. Okay, let's go to Carla. N6A double N QSY.
Speaker B: Yeah, let's try that. That sounded good that time. KN6NZK QS.
Home of the original 105 with a PL tone of 110.9. This is the W6 GRC repeater. Join us for our weekly net on Monday nights at 8:00pm.
Get your morning started off on the right foot. Listen in for the coffee break Net Daily at 7:30am here on the W6 GRC repeater.
So I'm logged in to supermon gym and I don't see it. W6trc.
Speaker A: What's that? Sorry, I had the volume down. Yeah, no problem. I've logged in. I don't see that on the digital dashboard or, I'm sorry, on the dashboard at all. Isn't it supposed to be right when you log onto the page on Supermodh? Yeah, I'm logged in and I see it. It's right underneath the node list. Do you. If you click on the nodes and then 405, 480, you should see a whole bunch of buttons, and then it should show the node table. And then underneath it is that announcement system.
Speaker B: Up on the top,
Speaker A: where it says right underneath W6GRC, where it says login. Do I need to log back into that as well? Now, if you logged in and put your username and password in that page and then it went away and did nothing, on the red bar, you'll see where it says nodes and then LS notes. If you hover over nodes, click 405480.
Speaker B: I'm going to
Speaker A: send you a picture of my screen to yourself, All right?
Oh, yeah. Click that login button again. My login failed, so I'm looking at my password real quick. If you look at that picture I sent you when you log in, that's what it should look like.
Speaker A: All right, I'm in. So the question of the day is, are all
Speaker B: the files that we have loaded on there now, are they going to play, or does this override everything? So that should play still? We can either move all those over to here, or you can let it continue to play, and you can add one off into here.
Speaker A: All right, we'll continue to let that play, and
Speaker B: we'll add one off in here. I double with you. Ideally, you want to have one system managed at all, so this one actually might be the good one to use. And if that's the case, I can move all the existing files over to this system.
Speaker A: Let's play with this
Speaker B: and make sure it works first, I guess, right? Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Create some files, schedule them, and give it a workout for a few days, and then we can decide what we want to do from there. The guy that's in Kentucky that's logged into the repeater, is that just because he found the site online somewhere? No, that's actually my father. Okay, gotcha. Paris, Kentucky. Where the heck's that at? It's outside of Lexington. It's a little. Small. Small town, kind of in the sticks. But when I was out there a few years ago, I dropped off a note for him and set it up so he stays nailed up here. He's hardly ever on, so when you do hear them, it's always a surprise. Okay, well, that's cool. I just saw that. So, the way the bubble chart works, does it show that he's connected to you and you're connected to me? Is that how that works? Yep. Exactly. Yeah, he's connected to me, and then I'm. Yeah, I'm connected to you. All right, well, I'll make an announcement and play with it, see if we can get the announcement to come across. All right, cool. I'm going to install here on my node locally and. And goof around that as well. Thanks for doing that. I appreciate it. Yes, sir. No problem. W6jrc okay6 chair of your.
Speaker A: So I generated
Speaker B: the announcement and put plane locally and nothing happened. W6GRC.
Speaker A: Sorry, I walked away. Is that for me?
Speaker B: Yeah. I generated the MP3 and then I put play locally and nothing happened. What am I doing wrong? Let me take a look. I might have fat fingered something during the install. One sec.
I don't know if you can use spaces. I'm going to try to play this one. Hang on. Blow up from the command line.
Did anything play.
Speaker A: Your ham radio dial is correct. You're on the world's famous W6GRC repeater. Tune in every morning starting at 7:30am for the coffee. Net.
Speaker B: That worked? Yeah. I don't know. When it installed one of its scripts, it. It didn't populate your note number in there, so I just quickly went in and fixed it. But yeah, that should do it. Now I'm going to rename that file back to with the space and see if that'll work. Now. Interesting. It never keyed up to ask me what node to install it on. That's interesting. No, when I installed it. When I installed the add on to Supermon, it asked me for a node number and I populated it with gears. But for some reason, when it actually installed the scripts, it never. It never actually took my input and did anything with it. So it will never ask you what node you want to play it on because it's hard coded on the back end. Okay, gotcha. Did it. Did it just key up and play? That didn't work. Yeah. Okay, so you can't use. You can't use a space in the name. That's why it's not happy. Generate another one. Right now? Yeah, so just use like a hyphen as your space replacement and you should be good to go.
If I send you over the script in an MP3, are you able to convert it and load it up there as well? There's not an easy way for me to send it up there right now, actually. Yeah, I can email it to me. I can install it on one of my servers and then grab it from there. But, yeah, send it over and I can do it. All right, I'll play with this. Thank you.
T tension. All ham radio operators, you've reached the world famous W6GFC repeater on 147.105, broadcasting at least 3 watts more than necessary. Please pause between overs, identify properly and remember, Kerchinking is not a hobby.

Speaker B: What do you think? W6GRC?
Speaker C: I think that's funny, gary. I think that'll be good. W6lnd.
Speaker B: On the. Does my audio sound low on this side? We might need to have Jim work on it and turn it up a little bit.
Speaker C: It could be low a little bit,
Speaker B: but it could be just the ht. Right. I think on the RF side, we need to turn it up just a pinch.
Speaker C: So the way that's set up. Can he do that remotely?
Speaker B: Yeah, he can.
Speaker C: Well, that's very, very good.
Speaker B: I'm going to clean up that announcement. It doesn't like commas, I take it.
Speaker C: It doesn't like a lot of things,
Speaker B: Just commas. I think everything else sounded good. Okay, well, I think you're getting there. So, Gary, just so you know, Jeremy's audio is a little bit hotter than yours, but I can turn up the receive if you want, or I can turn up the transmit side. It's up to you. Either way. I think we need to turn up the. On the RF side. I think it's a little low still. And when I was doing testing on it, it said it was low. When I used that. Not. Okay, I bumped up the receive a little bit more. Try that. Jeremy, you want to give us a three count or a five count so I can listen?
Speaker C: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
Speaker B: Still seems low. What do you think, Jim? Yeah, I'm watching the voice display and it's. It's still low, so hang on. Let's go. All right, bumped it up more. All right, how do I sound, Jeremy? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
Speaker C: I think your audio is a little louder than it was.
Speaker B: Does it look like it's similar to the audio coming out from the voice? Because the All Star audio is nice and hot. It seems like the RF audio is still low. I have plenty of room on the. On the receive audio, so I can. I can bring it up more. Just to let me know. Just bring it up a little bit more and then I'll have Jeremy talk a little bit. We'll listen. All right, let her.
Speaker A: Let her rip.
Speaker C: All right. I will talk for a minute and see how it sounds to you guys. Do you think it's any better to me? I thought Gary was a little hotter, but I still think he needs to do something on the repeater side as well. W6LND.
Speaker B: All right. How do I sound, Jeremy? Testing, 1, 2, 3. Audio check, check, check, check. 1, 2, 3. W6GRC.
Speaker C: I think it sounds pretty good to me.
Speaker B: What do you think, Jim? Definitely. Definitely hotter and sounds good. I'll lock it here. And if you want to connect up to that, that feedback reflector and test it there, give it a whirl. All right, you do that. Here, Go find that cheat sheet here.
Speaker A: Do you have that memorized? Can you text that to me? I'm reading the email and I don't see it in the notes.
Speaker B: Yeah, one sec.
Speaker A: Sent. Got it. I'll test it right now.
Speaker B: Try it again. I'm doing something wrong. It doesn't want to connect.
Speaker C: Node 55553 connected to node 405480. W6GRC
Speaker A: testing audio 1234. Audio level is low. W6GRC testing audio 1, 2, 3, 4.
Speaker B: Audio check 1234. W6GRC.
Speaker A: Audio level is just about right. Audio check 1234.
Speaker B: W6Grc. Are you good with that
Speaker C: or you want me to bring it up more?
Speaker A: I want you to bring it up more. I had to basically put the mic in front of my mouth to get it to come up a little hotter. So if you can bring it up just a bit, that would be great.
Speaker B: Okay. You should hear
Speaker A: two beeps. After that you're good to test. I muted the. So I'm going to re establish it. So after the two beeps, you're good to go. W6grc testing audio 1234. Audio level is normal. W6grc testing audio 12 34. I think we got it. All right. You good with that? Affirmative. Sounds good.
Speaker C: Node 55553 disconnected.
Speaker B: Okey dokey. Saved.
Speaker A: Cool. All right, I'll work on some more announcements. Try sending a DTMS command like the one that plays time or something.
Speaker C: Good evening. The time is 9:34pm.
Speaker B: Jeremy, can you hear the tones go across? We double. Did that work? Okay,
Speaker A: yeah, that worked. Then I was asking Jeremy if he could hear the tones actually come across to repeater. Yeah, I could hear the towns come across, but that's kind of normal when you do that. It should be just quick, quick blips. Right. Not the full. Not the full town. Almost. Almost unheard.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: I'm
Speaker B: trying to figure out why
Speaker A: when the girl talks, she's playing some dashes or something that's not there. Some working on cleaning that up and we'll do some more announcements.
Speaker A: Attention all operators. You've reached the world famous W6 GRC repeater on 147.105, broadcasting at least 3 watts more than necessary at all times. Please pause between overs, identify properly, and remember, kerchunking is not a hobby.
Speaker B: No dots or slashes, so I'm not sure why it
Speaker C: keeps saying that.

Speaker B: Do you hear the backslash, Jim? There's no backslash in it. Have any idea? I've looked at all the coding. Not sure why it says that. Yeah, I have no clue. Are you word wrapping or are you putting stuff on a new line? Maybe that's what's going on. There's no abbreviations, there's no backslashes. In fact, I took all the periods out of it trying to figure out why. Why it's doing it. Let me put it in word and see what happens. Maybe it's, I don't know, still trying to figure it out.

Speaker C: At least there were no backslashes.
Speaker B: Yeah, now I gotta figure out the dot stuff because it says periods are okay, but then it doesn't take the period, so I'm not sure.
Speaker C: Well, that's okay. I can't even install this application on my node here at home because this install script expects a Raspberry PI, and I'm not running a Raspberry PI, so it barfs. I have to go figure this out by hand.
Speaker B: All right, drink time. Let me go get a soda. W6grc.
Speaker C: Q6jw1.
Fill your coffee cup and join us for the coffee break Net Daily at 7:30am here on the W6 GRC repeater.
Node 51018 connected to node 405480.
Speaker A: Hello, everybody. Good morning and welcome to the coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater located in Auburn, California. The coffee breaknet where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping. This net is sponsored by the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club in Northern California. And we're here every day of the week from 7:30 to 10:00am Pacific Time. Please welcome your net control host and conversation facilitator for today's Coffee break net, Brian AI6us. He's checking in from beautiful Meadow Vista, California. Let's get the coffee breaknet underway.
Speaker B: Yes, indeed. Thank you, Mr. Bullwinkle. Let's get the coffee breaknet underway. I'm Brian AI6us and welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Coffee Breaknet Hump day. It is February 28, 2026, and let's go ahead and check out what the national days are and then we'll get a couple of rounds of quick in and outs as we start our morning. Today is National Battery Day. Think about what your life would be like without battery operated devices. You'd be cranking your car by hand. You'd be, you know, think of all the devices that you have around the house. And now we're getting into, of course, the rechargeables. When's the last time you bought a pack of batteries? You know, I'm trying to think of even the last time I bought batteries. Most everything is now rechargeable. Today is national drink wine day and thumb appreciation day. Yeah, big, big shout out to the thumbs out there and especially to my primate friends with that ever so useful opposable thumb. What would life be without batteries and thumbs? Right? Good morning. Let's go ahead and take a round or two of quick in and outs as you start your day. I'm Brian AI6US and welcome to the Coffee Breaknet on the W6EK repeater and connected nodes.
Speaker C: Who's out there this morning?
Speaker B: Let's spread them out, get everybody in the list and start checking people. And remember, quick in announcer two minutes and under and one flip of the soft egg timer. Good morning. Taking check ins.
Speaker D: Good morning, Brian. And net November Leowitz.
Speaker B: Never works. Morning, brian.
Speaker E: Kb6ss queen victor kca fqb.
Speaker F: Kilo delta 6 charlie, delta quebec, rick and north island. Ke0yjj Rick in Minnesota.
Speaker B: All right, man. Some days we have a kerfuffle and we are going to just say today is just one of those days. Let's see. Let me try making a little bit of sense of this list and I Think we're going to have a bunch of reach or bunch of confirmations here. So let's see, I'm just kind of quickly looking through the list to see who I might have missed on Supermon. But good morning to everybody. Let's see, this is who I heard and then we'll fill it in from there. Good morning Rick Ke0y J J and I heard somebody say Robert but I didn't catch a call. There was like about eight other people in there with you. Who was the Robert? Well, I'm a robert. I'm not sure but kilo oscar six romeo over. All right, k06 kmr. Boy that what a start to Wednesday morning. I don't think I had enough coffee to face that barrage. Who did I miss? N6ckv. November 6th whiskey quebec uniform kn6wq. All right, we will add to the check in list. Good morning Dan K in 6WQU and good morning to Carl N6 CKV. Great to great to have you check it in this morning everyone. Let's start at the top of the list. Just a reminder, these are quick in and out so let's keep the the check in list short so we can respect other people's time. Good morning Daniel in 9 MUF. Happy Wednesday.
Speaker G: Good morning Brian and the Net. Happy Wednesday to everyone.
Speaker B: It's also Ash Wednesday which is the
Speaker G: reason for my early check in since I'm going to go head up to my parish and participate in the midday application of Ashes.
Speaker B: All right, very good. Yes. Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent and thank you for checking in early so you could head up there for this for this event. Good morning to you and family going with you today.
Speaker G: They are not but they did come out with me on Monday. We had a wonderful put it together. The software tweaks to my little monitoring program are working well and might actually see if I figure out a Windows binary for it with that. So this is a quick in and out and it's a short eight timer. I'll say seven three to y' all and nine muf.
Speaker B: All right, you have a wonderful day and a good Ash Wednesday day at the beginning of Lent KG6 in LW. Good morning, Frank. What do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker D: Oh, good morning, Brian and Annette. Brian, I'm. I'm going to do what the one gal did. What was it yesterday?
Speaker B: Day before.
Speaker D: I'm gonna call you out on your dates. You got everything right. Except you said it was the 28th of February, not the 18th of February. Ten days ahead our way. Something you want to get to at the beginning of March here. Anyway, just the usual stuff, Brian. You know, work, work, work, work, work,
Speaker B: work, work, work, work.
Speaker D: You know, that nasty four letter word for most people. This morning I'm back down in Stockton. So having fun. Gonna go to bed, have a nice nap and see what the next day brings me. Starting like 4 o' clock this afternoon. You know, just the usual other stuff. Check me out on YouTube if you miss any of the coffee break nets. They are live, so you know you can always go Team Replay and go. Should I actually say that or is Frank making things up? But yeah, there you go. Good morning Brian and the coffee break net AI6 US kg6NLW
Speaker B: well, you know, just kind of looking at the calendar.
Speaker C: The only reason I probably want to
Speaker B: rush towards the end of the month is to end Lent so I can enjoy Easter. I don't know. Oh, and nothing crazy happened this morning. No excuse other than my brain. My brain evidently slipped a cog or the clutch is slipping. Good morning to you there, Frank. Yes, indeed. I just pulled up your YouTube live feed here. It looks like we have Twitch, Facebook and some folks over on YouTube live watching right now. So hello to them.
Speaker A: Well, good morning.
Speaker B: You have a one day. I was going to say have a wonderful day in Stockton, but it is Stockton.
Speaker F: Yeah.
Speaker B: Good morning. You have a wonderful day, Frank.
Speaker D: It's okay, Brian. Every once in a while my cog slips too. But you know, you got to give a fun jabbing for it anyway. Yeah, and I'm on the wrong side
Speaker B: of the track too.
Speaker D: Funny. All right, have a Good day, Brian. KG6 Milwaukee.
Speaker B: Isn't it something to be employed by somebody who is through history dividing the community? Anybody not familiar with Frank? He works for the rail system, so. Yes, indeed. Those train tracks cut through town and you're either one side of the tracks or the other. You have a great day, Frank. Thanks for checking in. Clearing with KG6 in the LW. Good morning, Tom. KB6SSN what side of the tracks you on and are you still at the top of the hill? I heard you earlier this morning saying you had ice on the windshield. And we are just hovering at freezing up here in Meadow Vista this morning. No snow, no ice, just wet. Well, good morning, Brian.
Speaker C: Hopefully I'm at a spot here where
Speaker B: you can hear me.
Speaker C: Yes, I'm on my way out to Larry's. Yeah, when I woke up this morning, I got an alert at about 5am that said caution, snow and rain in the Auburn area. And I thought, oh, is it snowing? And I walked outside and I know it's not snowing, but it's cold as heck. And then when I got in the
Speaker B: car, the thermometer in the car, not
Speaker C: the auto thermometer, but my mechanical thermometer I have in the car said it was 31 degrees.
Speaker B: And the roof and the wind windshield,
Speaker C: and everything was frozen solid. I had to sit and let the vehicle warm up to thaw everything out before I could go anywhere. And everything I've touched this morning that's metallic is just ice, ice cold. I just came from storage where I grabbed a cable, one of these very, very proud cables that YAESU has that connects their radios to their amplifiers. Yes, $74.95 before taxes for a piece of wire.
Speaker B: Yeah, and it doesn't even transmit. It's not even an antenna.
Speaker C: Unfortunately, they're the only game in town, unless you want to build one. And for $74, I think they could build it for me. So in any case. So I have picked up my fancy cable here and I'm headed out to Larry's. So anyway, yeah, it was. It was frozen solid when I walked out this morning. Not, not a hard freeze like, you know, 10 below or anything like that, but it was definitely cold.
Speaker B: Well, may I remind you not to stop and lick the flag pole on the way down the hill. Yes, Yesterday was just bone chilling all day long, never warmed up. I don't think it ever got out of the. Out of the 30s yesterday. Yeah, I know people on the East coast. Wah, wah, wah. 30 degrees is a heat wave for y' all back there. Well, good morning to you. Yes, the good old Yaesu unique cables. You know, everything they make. Like, I had to buy a mini DIN connector for the YAESU radio the other day. Why? Because they put a flat spot on their mini din where the regulars did not. I'm sure there's a lot of other differences. Oh, yeah, the price.
Speaker C: And that's about it right there. Yes, they've kind of got you over a barrel. If you want to connect two of
Speaker B: their pieces of equipment together, you can
Speaker C: either go find this proprietary plug somewhere and spend hours building a cable. Or you can just buy the darn thing and the friendly folks at HRO will have it at your doorstep within 24 hours. So at least if you live in Auburn anyway. Yeah, it never ceases to amaze me
Speaker B: how quick the shipping is from West Saxon to Auburn.
Speaker C: If you order it before noontime, you'll have it next afternoon sitting on your porch. So that's pretty cool. In any case, that's all I have for you this morning, Brian. Have a wonderful morning. Thanks for the Bullwinkle this morning. That was the Rocky and Bullwinkle show was one of my favorites. Especially with all of the the add
Speaker B: ins, you know, fractured Fairy tales and
Speaker C: Peabody and Sherman and you know, Aesop's Tables and all kinds of wonderful stuff they had on that show. So that brought back some great memories. 73kb6ss
Speaker B: yeah, the Bulwinkle show was on Saturday morning cartoons for kids. But you look at it now and go, I'm not sure that that cartoon was made for kids. Kids related to it, but yeah, there's a lot of content that makes you chuckle as a somebody who tries to resemble an adult. KV6SSN AI6US. You have a wonderful day. Good morning Mark. KC8FQV.
Speaker F: Well good morning.
Speaker E: KCF qv.
Speaker D: Yeah, it warmed up here.
Speaker E: I'm like pretty decent. I ran down and got the mail and paper. We didn't go down yesterday and get the mail there already and yeah, a light missed out there a little bit. But yeah, I did a lot of nets last night so we'll allow them on that logger follow right along. So we'll send it back to back to net. There was something I think there might have been a net on last night of my baby and but we'll send it back to nat casef qb.
Speaker B: All right, Mark. Yeah, very good. Yeah. Sounds like you are a netaholic. Hi, my name's Mark and I'm a netaholic. Very entertaining though. You know anybody who says that Internet linking is the end of amateur radio certainly has not been on repeaters and such that are connected up lately. The activity and the conversations that are heard because of, you know, if one town goes to sleep there's always something to tune into. KC8FQV Glad to hear that it warmed up and continue to appreciate that brief respite from winter. KC8FQV AI6US Happy Hump Day. Good morning, rick. Kd6cdq what do you have for the nep this morning?
Speaker F: Well Good morning, Brian. This is Rick 86 CDQ in beautiful downtown suburban North Islands. First of all, I guess I should make a shout out to all my fellow Catholics out there. Happy Ash Wednesday. Second of all, National Battery Day. I never knew there was one. But I'll tell you what, in all the years I was a consumer and also an employee a Radio Shack, that battery card was sure a good thing. I didn't mind batteries because it brought people into my store to buy things. And I didn't mind having a battery card because hey, a free battery now and then can help you out.
Speaker B: It was a great marketing ploy, no doubt about it. I also short time employee of Radio Shack in my college years. And yeah, many, you know, I think about being a kid and having that battery card and you go in for one battery and then you just browse and browse and browse and you know, the reality is what can you do with one battery? You're gonna buy something when you, when you're in there, even if it's just a couple more batteries.
Speaker F: Well, not very long ago I bought on ebay a Radio Shack digital multimeter. Very nice one. I had one a long time ago and I screwed up and hooked it up to something that exceeded its tolerances and well, unfortunately it was a good multimeter, but it bought the farm. Well, anyways, I found one on ebay, bought it, opened it up and I'll be damned, inside the battery compartment, what did I find? Radio Shack batteries. It was the green model which was our intermediate one from better than the reds, but not as good as the golds. And they were all fully charged. Now this was just less than a year ago. Those batteries sometimes do last a long time because I remember they found a 9 volt battery that went way back. It was a real old 9 volt
Speaker B: and it was fully charged.
Speaker F: Can you imagine that, Katie? Six CDQ73s and everybody have a good Ash Wednesday. Unbelievable.
Speaker B: You know, and Coppertop, you know, the Duracells, they terrible leakage problem. You know, I have Duracells here that are not even two years old and they're already leaking crazy Radio Shack battery. I'm trying to of. I think the last Radio Shack that I was aware of in the area was up in Grass Valley and that closed down, oh probably, oh maybe almost ten years ago. Eight to ten years ago.
Speaker A: So I don't even know if they had batteries at that point. So good testament for Radio Shack batteries but I'm sure if the current company brought them back they probably wouldn't be like they were. Have a wonderful Ash Wednesday there Rick and we'll chat with you again. KD6CDQ AI6US73. Good morning will. Kj5 gulf whiskey november.
Speaker B: If I could appeal to Mark to send us some rain I would.
Speaker A: We need it badly.
Speaker B: We're dealing with wildfires. Burned up over 150,000 acres in western and Northwestern and panhandle of Oklahoma. Injured four firefighters and it was not a good day yesterday to be in western or Northwestern or the panhandle of Oklahoma. They had wildfires out the other end. So anyway, hot wildfire danger today, low humidity and so anyway that's what we're doing with Oklahoma today. KJ5 Golf Whiskey November.
Speaker A: I saw that on the news. Quite, quite the event. Wind driven, just incredible. I do wish that you get some of this precipitation but I think everything that's passing through here appears to be going to the north of you. Let's hope that some, some change happens and produces some precipitation for you. We're thinking of you there Will. And, and definitely 150,000 acre wildfire wind driven is, is going to be quite the quite the continuing event. A KJ5 GWN AI6US73 will.
Speaker B: 73 is brian. This is kj5 golf whiskey and webrook now clear.
Speaker A: Good morning Robert. You may be the only Robert that I'm aware of. A Couple Go by Bob K06KMR Good morning.
Speaker B: Well, good morning Brian.
Speaker C: Yeah, my mom was real, real adamant about calling me Robert. Being from down south, she didn't want me to become Bobby Joe over.
Speaker A: Well then I guess I could have become Brian Bobby. Glad I live in Northern California. I also share the name with you Robert as my father middle names. But good morning to you. What do you have for the net this morning Robert?
Speaker C: Well, had extra class yesterday evening. Enjoyed that. Four classes under my belt now. Didn't really have problems with the first
Speaker B: four
Speaker C: classes starting with five though. We're doing amplifiers, signal processing, this and that. That's given me a little more problems so got lots to learn and other than that just going to start studying chapters six and seven over.
Speaker A: Well you know it's a great thing that the class is being offered. I know they have some really great instruction going on and hopefully that will help you through that chapter five but well, you have a lab coming up this weekend. Looks like there is going to be a good break in the weather so I hope that goes well for you.
Speaker C: Yeah, looking forward to that. That ought to be pretty good. We're going to have that at Jan park and I believe it's Citrus Heights someplace like that but that'll be on Saturday. Looking forward to going to that and otherwise got six more classes to go and then after that do some review and then take the test over.
Speaker A: Well, very good. Wishing you luck and. Well, not luck. I wish you well on that exam and it's you know the, the extra class it definitely takes amateur radio to the next level and have a feeling with the, with the education that you're receiving from that great team that it probably will be. Will be a good experience for you. Yeah, Chan Park, I know that's a park that they quite often hold the labs in and I know that the pneumatic mast and the hex beam are going to be taken out this next weekend and some other antennas. So you guys have a wonderful activation in the park and hopefully some great time being able to operate the radio.
Speaker C: Yeah, I'm looking forward to it on that. I'm going to turn it back over to y' all guys at Kilo Oscar 6 Kilo Mike Romeo and I'm just going to listen over.
Speaker A: Maybe I should follow your lead and just listen for a while. That would be something new for me on this net. Just kidding Robert. Have a wonderful day. Always a pleasure. K06KMR AI6US and let's check in with Rick Ke0y J J Good morning Rick. What do you have for the net? This
Speaker B: well good morning Brian and Annette. Well to start off with I resolved the issue of my shack noise causing you to me from the channel and so I built a radio less node that I'm talking to you on now through my blue snowball and it's all looking good. Got all my computer programs up and running and I can't believe it but I think I'm going to be getting bored here shortly anyways I'll find something I'm sure but. Yep, good to hear you. I always get a chuckle of your net. Gotta make sure to be here. Anyways back to you. Have a great day.
Speaker A: Excellent. Well before I let you go Rick, I'm going to pick your brain a little bit what is the basis of your radio list node? I just picked up some hardware this past week the AllScan UCI 200 that I am basing my radialist node on. Not completed with it yet and I'm very Familiar with the snowball? I used to have one of those microphones that I used quite a bit and I'm trying to think of what I ever did with it. It was a great microphone. Oh, did we lose you there, rick? Ke0y j j ai6us coffee breaknet. Well, I guess I'm going to have to save those questions for another time so. Clearing with KE0YJJ Good morning, Larry. K06IHJ I heard rumor that you have that Henry 2K floor model back nurse back to health and it sounded like somebody who worked on it before maybe should retake the radio telephone license.
Speaker B: Oh my goodness.
Speaker A: Ko6ihj did we lose you there, Larry?
Speaker B: Good morning, Brian.
Speaker A: Now you didn't lose me. I was not paying attention. I'm sorry. K06IHJ here with Tom in a sec and you know we're gonna tear into he already told you quadramps. We're having some fun.
Speaker B: You'll see the videos for your thumbs.
Speaker A: Finally a day that I really enjoy
Speaker B: because if we didn't have thumbs we
Speaker A: wouldn't have Arthur Fonzarelli. Can you imagine what it'd be like to hold onto a soldering iron and solder and wick and I like having opposable thumbs especially. No, I had a great lead in to you. I was congratulating you on the repair. I heard rumor that the Henry 2K floor model was fully functionable and. And it came down to somebody who worked on it before that maybe should have their radio telephone license. Well, a re examination
Speaker B: fully functional.
Speaker A: Yes, but the meter that I was working on we're still working on.
Speaker B: I tagged all the lines, made sure
Speaker A: everything's okay and it all coming down to this rotary switch so less days plus function. I'm going to test it. And here we go. Here's the scary words everybody. You ready? Applied power to test. But that's how fireworks happen. Remember, one hand behind the pack, one hand behind the back when you're inside there. Well, you guys have a wonderful day. Sounds like you have a YAESU apparatus to work on today as well. And yeah, looking forward to hearing some of these radios on the air. You know you never when I ever. When I catch you on the radio, I never have any idea what what radio you're on. But I see you on HF quite often. Larry, you have a great day. He was well Briar. Thank you for taking us in. Doing a great job. Repeater sounding good.
Speaker B: Everybody have a blessed day. It's cold out there. The higher elevations, watch out for that ice.
Speaker A: Lower elevations, we got some slick roads, I guess. Everybody have a blessed day. Ko6isj73 yeah, here in Meadow Vista, we've just had wet, wet, wet, wet, wet weather. Rain, rain, rain, no snow, no ice. Just boredom. Have a Great day, Larry. Ko6ihj let's head on down to the valley, down to Wilton, California in 6 CKV. Good morning, Carl. Good morning, Brian and everyone else out there. Well, it's sunny for the moment. I think it's going to rain this afternoon. So I have to see, other than
Speaker B: that, finish my federal taxes.
Speaker A: Going to finish the state taxes today and take a breather. That is awesome. I don't do my final taxes. I do those online and you know, I'm really glad that I do them online. It is such a wonderful experience as compared to one or two trips down to a tax prep one year. You know, as a business owner, I try to on my own and I swore never again. So. Excellent, Carl. Maybe a trip down to Farrell's. They're not around anymore. I was going to say, you got to have some celebration after those taxes are completed. Oh, yeah, that reminds me of the Farrells in Sacramento near the library that we used to go to.
Speaker D: Yeah, yeah.
Speaker A: I never went to the Ferals in California. We used to have them up in the Seattle area. And yes, indeed, the pig trough. I can't tell you how many of those I've consumed.
Speaker D: Oh, yeah.
Speaker A: Anyway, everyone have a good day. Enjoy the sun while it's out. I'm going to say 73. Everyone have a good Wednesday. Hi to Lynn and hello to Ruth and you have a wonderful day today. And thanks for checking in, Carl, and enjoy that sun. We have definitely what looks like clouds, snow clouds overhead. And I think I just saw a snowflake fall. So yeah, we usually get daytime snow up here for some reason. Good morning. N6CKV, AI6US Coffee Breaknet and let's head on down somewhere in the Sacramento Valley. KN6WQU Good morning, Dan.
Speaker D: Good morning, Brian. And this is KN6WQ. I'm currently in north island at the moment, so at the qth it was just too ankle to get off early this morning. I had to get my vest on and put the battery in there. I looked over at the outside temperature, says 37. I'm like, yeah, right, there's ice on everything. Let's see. Man, you know, it's pretty mind blowing to me how we've come so far. Electronics, where, you know, things used to run on thousands of volts or even hundreds of thousands of volts and now we're running like 3, 3.35 volts, 12 volts, 24 volts and you know, and it's, it's like nothing. So it's just amazing how we've come around around and done things where it's a little bit more efficient as far as power is concerned. They're not so hungry and a little bit more safer for those that need to repair the things that need to be repaired. Although does make it a lot harder. Let's see. I think I'm going to go get some real stuff done today. Yesterday we played hooky at the end of the day. It was. I actually took a nap yesterday that was really nice. Actually that even happened. I went to sleep around 9 o' clock or so in the morning and got up around 11:30 so that was cool. And I went and did a couple of little small things. I had a window where I had to go to pick and pull and replace a power steering motor and a Hyundai and then got that done and sure enough it rained again. So God at least had me, had me in mind in that one. And yeah, so that's where I got today. So in the mobile today and gonna go hopefully. I think I have like four, maybe five jobs today and that's it. I'm gonna go try to get a couple things done. I should have got done today for yesterday when it was really dumping. But we'll see how it goes. This is Cantic wq. Thanks for right in front of the net.
Speaker A: All right Dan, glad to hear you took a little bit of time off yesterday and was able to work here. Your work between the showers. Yeah, it was just a, it was just a cold wet day yesterday. It felt like I was living up in Washington or Oregon again. Kn6wqu Ai6ua yeah, it is really something. I just wanted to address your comment on lower power consumption and that sort of thing and then also time of usage. You know, as we have more and more items that are running off of batteries, our reliance on grid and that sort of thing really, really are reshaped and you know, you would think that would help with, you know, climate control. You know that we're not heating up the planet with all of our high voltage consumption. It has to go somewhere.
Speaker B: Dan.
Speaker A: Have a great day. KN6W QU A I6US
Speaker D: Thanks Brian. Oh yeah, there's one more major update that I can finally share with the group. The mini split system seems to be 100% operational at this moment in time. So yesterday we got a new motherboard in the mail. So I got that installed during the rain yesterday and it hasn't shut down on high pressure since and it's actually pretty toasty now. So I think it's fixed. Question mark.
Speaker A: Fingers crossed.
Speaker D: And 6W
Speaker A: will better late than never. But I'm glad to hear that you have an operating heating cooling system in this current weather. We have, so. Oh, how frustrating. Brand new equipment install and it comes down to possibly just a bad hardware. Well, keep us updated. KN6WQ AIC. Have a wonderful warm day. Good morning. It's hump day. It's Wednesday and it is February 18th. Yes, February 18th. February 18th, 2026. Today is National Battery Day. And let's not talk about anything beating up on people. No, this is the device that gives us power in our electronics and such. National Battery Day, National Drink Wine Day and Thumb Appreciation Day. And a special shout out to all the primates out there with the opposable thumbs. Good morning. Let's go ahead and take one more round of quick in and outs before we get into regular check ins. Anybody you like to take advantage of? Just a quick in and out to say hello and get on your way. Coffee breaknet. Good morning. Kk6a up6 mike mike india.
Speaker B: Ko6kbs.
Speaker A: Broadcasting live from Red Mountain at an elevation of 3673ft Bottom of the list. So take a, take an opportunity to get in that menu and crank down the microphone gain. Very distorted. Let's see. I got a six mike mike India. You doubled in with another station. Full call please. Kilo Ocean. 6 Mike Mike India. If you can pick me up.
Speaker D: All right.
Speaker A: Kilo Oscar. Six Mike Mike India. Good morning to you. We'll be right back to you.
Speaker A: You for in a moment. Good morning to ray kk 6am and good morning to kv6 luv brett. And good morning to kc6 sle grayton. And good morning to jimmy ka3 vgm. Did I miss any? I do see a November 3rd golf Mike Sierra up on Supermont. Where are you? Trying to check in.
Speaker B: It was probably Brian. I'm going through that note this morning.
Speaker A: Okay, Jimmy, very good. Nice cloaking maneuver there. All right. Did I miss anyone? All right, just a reminder, these are quick in and outs. We'll keep the check ins under 2 minutes if we could. And yeah, did pretty good in the last round. We averaged just under 3 minutes per check in. So kudos. Good morning Jimmy Ka3 VGM.
Speaker B: Good morning Brian. Yeah, I'm testing my buddy node for him. He was big back in laws on WI fi and it seems to be okay in the location he has it but definitely need another router if he's going to put it in the location he wants to put it because back there I have so much talking loss it doesn't even reliably queue the note all the time with the retalking. So I would be attesting that this morning. That's why I'm going through that nose this morning.
Speaker A: Well, glad that somebody is able to help someone. I know it could be quite frustrating to, you know, be trying to diagnose a node and you're not really sure is it my radio or you know, is it the placement? So glad you're around to be able to help them there. Well, good morning to you. What else do you have going on this morning, Jimmy?
Speaker B: Oh, it's not much. It's supposed to be all the way up to 58 degrees today here in Slovenia. But it's raining and it's dark and it's cloudy, so no going outside. Sure, check. And I K83 back to you, Brian. Have a good day.
Speaker A: And you as well, Jimmy. Thanks for checking in this morning. Man, that sounds like. Boy, sounds like spring break weather in South Florida. 58 degrees in Pennsylvania. Enjoy that nice warm weather. I hope puxidentifil did not get your prediction incorrect there. Good morning Graydon KC6SOLE.
Speaker C: Good morning, Brian. Good morning, Lynette. Your mention of Farrell's ice cream in Sacramento brought back good memories and bad memories. Remember how Farrell's ended in Sacramento?
Speaker A: I was not living here at the time, but as I recall. Please, please tell the story. I remember it involved airplane crash.
Speaker C: Yeah, it was right after an air show. A vintage aircraft was trying to take off it was a jet was trying to take off out of the I'm pretty sure it was executive airport. Did not get airborne. Slid across the end of the Runway and went right into barrels and exploded. It was pretty ugly.
Speaker A: And I don't recall what the loss of life was but man, you know ferals known as one of the happiest places on earth to have something like that happen. I don't think it was ever rebuilt, was it? No, it was not.
Speaker C: I grew up with ferals in the Valley in Fresno and it was quite the place to go when you were a teenager. And yes, I never ate a pig's trough by myself but we shared one among to a lot of my friends.
Speaker A: Okay, well I can tell you I had in the crowd I ran with we our badge of honor. One of the badges of honor, I should say was how many pig trough ribbons you could have hanging obstructing your view in the windshield.
Speaker C: Yeah, there was no way physically I was going to get one of those into me. Let's see, I wanted to mention real quickly I will not buy or use Duracell batteries anymore. I've lost more pieces of equipment to Duracell leaking. The battery that I've had the best success with for long term use that doesn't leak are the ever ready ever ready seem and they have a good guarantee on their batteries as well. Well, I have not had good luck replacing normal AAA's 9v with rechargeable. Just have not had good luck with that over time.
Speaker B: Let's see.
Speaker C: I wanted to mention too that it's not too soon to start promoting the fox hut coming up on February 28th. Last Saturday of the month right after the club breakfast. I've been in college conversation with Marty and Marty has put together. I've seen his cut sheet for the fox hunt for that day. Marty is KO6GXX. So good job, Marty.
Speaker A: Yeah, Marty checked into the net yesterday and I forgot to talk to him about. About the upcoming fox hunt. Yes, the last Saturday of each month in Auburn, California we have a fox hunt. So anybody in the surrounding area, you don't need to be a club member, come on in and we have a ton of fun. You don't need any fox hunting skills. You can ride along with somebody with a little more experience or equipment and have fun. You know, bring an ht, maybe do a little body flagging with your ht. But yeah, it's a great learning experience and above all a lot of fun
Speaker C: with that. I think my egg timer is probably out of sand? I don't know. Do you use sand in your egg timer or what are you using? Electronic one?
Speaker A: I don't know. It's a material kind of colored blue. I assume it's blue tinted sand. Might be silica or something else, I don't know. I don't even know if it's accurate. But I use it. Rechargeable batteries. I'll just mention I do not use. The only rechargeables that I put in a charging base anymore is 18650. Love those 18650. Very awesome battery. But all the batteries I'm buying now, including AA and 9v have a USB C port on them and I find they last a heck of a long time. And I'm using them in the smoke detectors I'm even using in my offset attenuator for fox hunting. So you might want to check those out. Get them on Amazon and very happy with them.
Speaker C: So they have a built in battery management system. I will check those out. That probably is the ultimate solution.
Speaker A: I get one year runtime out of the nine volt batteries, you know, the backup batteries and the smoke detectors and I just, you know, it's great. Just throw them in, grab another fresh one, drop it in and you know, I don't know if you've seen the price of 9 volt batteries anymore, but it has to be a considerable savings. Hey Graydon, you have a wonderful day. Good morning to Grady, good morning to Lisa. We'll catch you later on. And thank you so much for taking the lead on the fox hunts. It is a really fun activity for our community. You just condemned. You just.
Speaker C: Lisa's sitting here laughing. Just as we were talking about the smoke alarms and batteries, the smoke smoke alarm started chirping. Have a great day, Brian. KC6SLE
Speaker A: Hey, I'm not in cahoots with them. That's crazy. All right, everybody plug your smoke detector ears because we're talking about them. KC6S L E A I6US Coffee Breaknet Good morning Brett and company. K KB6LUV
Speaker D: Good morning Brian and Coffee Breaknet land. Yep, it is a beautiful Wednesday morning. Well, I wouldn't know. It's not beautiful. I'm on the green side of the grass.
Speaker A: We'll say that.
Speaker D: And the orange ball in the sky has not made an appearance. It might in a little while. We'll see how that goes. And man, nothing's more annoying than at least grading. Your fire smoke detector didn't go off in the middle of the Night. Nothing's worse than trying to hunt down which smoke detector is going off in the dark when you're half asleep.
Speaker A: Oh, first of all, just trying to get the heartbeat down. Just, you know, it's just kind of like, whoa, what was that? And then. Yeah. Wandering from room to room. And then it's always usually when a guest is over and it's. It's the battery in their sleeping area. Well, good morning, Brett. What do you have going on today? Not a whole lot.
Speaker D: A lot of the normal stuff. Hunting down data center construction professionals. Currently sitting here with the mom, Bonnie
Speaker A: from Newton, Kansas, and my wife Deedee
Speaker D: and who I am encouraging and probably going to convince to go to the fox hunt this coming. Anyway, let me say, let the lady say good morning.
Speaker E: Good morning, coffee net people. I'm Brian. It's nice to be here for one. I think it's warmer in Kansas than it is here right now.
Speaker A: You might be right. You know, please do not sue the state of California for false advertising. It usually is. I won't say that this is kind of typical for winter weather here, but I. Hopefully you're not looking forward to going back to Kansas to warm up.
Speaker E: No, that would be crazy.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker D: She's here for another couple weeks, so at least, like I said, long enough to also come join us with the fox hunt, which should be fun. Well, keeping this short egg timer. Ish. Thanks very much for being there and
Speaker A: obviously the voters dessert back up and
Speaker D: running because I'm able to get in on RF this morning. So again, thank you all who do
Speaker A: the work that you do.
Speaker D: It's just deeply, deeply appreciated. So thank you all, everybody else out
Speaker F: there in coffee breaknet land.
Speaker D: Have an incredible day. Take care of yourselves, take care of each other. Be blessed.
Speaker A: KB6 luv be of love.
Speaker D: 73 clear and listening.
Speaker A: Well, we certainly look forward to, to you and Bonnie and maybe Dede coming out for the fox hunt. We do have a fun time and you know, because it's right after the breakfast usually, you know, get up that early to come for breakfast. It's a wonderful way to start the day. Good conversation and then a fun fox hunt. And then somehow we usually end up at burger and cream and have a milkshake. It's a calorie intensive day. But, you know, we put out a lot of energy trying to find that fox. Good morning, Bonnie. Good morning, Dee Dee and Brett, you have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking in. KB6LUV AI6US. And yes, I will just mention, yes, Doug W2VX and Tom N6H and Patrick N2DYI. You know, we were definitely quite busy, you know, monitoring and Doug ran over to the vault, did a couple more checks and you know, we're still on top of things. Things I don't think are solved yet. But we will blame it on timing. It appears that the GPS signal was off by a few seconds and Tom noticed that on some diagnostics and just very odd. Just one of the. The GPS units. Two seconds off. No explanation for it other than it was just off two seconds and that stopped our whole system. Good morning, Ray. KK 6:00am
Speaker B: Good morning.
Speaker G: I think my memory has gone wrong thinking that the F86 into Ferrell's of it cocktail.
Speaker A: I do know that it was Sacramento. It was at the end of the. Right off the end of the Runway there and yeah, what an incredibly terrible event happened there. Well, good morning to you and yes, you're sounding much stronger into the repeater today. Thank you for helping monitor and bringing some of the issues to our attention. Appreciate it.
Speaker B: Okay,
Speaker A: well now I really wonder.
Speaker G: I would have to do some looking because I, I somehow f86 crashing into something it conquered.
Speaker A: There was lots of life.
Speaker G: That's why I'm gonna have to dig in and see for the one.
Speaker A: Well, I'm looking it up right now. F86 Concord, California and boy, F86 I see something. I'm not finding any incidents so. Yeah, let us know what you find. Boy, that F86 was a beautiful plane.
Speaker G: Yeah, very good drone too. That surprised company I worked for in Mojave was converting F86s into QF86 drones.
Speaker A: That would be intimidating as heck. Yeah, I just looked up, you know, air crash and Concord F86 and I just. Let's see, there was one down in F86 Saber jet crash in Los Angeles. Sun Valley mall. Yeah, yeah. Korea. F86 plane crash, Sacramento, Farrell's ice cream parlor. But I'm not finding anything with Concord so let us know what you find.
Speaker G: Well, I best take views because I can't.
Speaker A: I really can't believe there'd be two.
Speaker G: It's amazing though. There are quite a few F86s in private hats.
Speaker A: No. And I don't blame people for collect them. They are a beautiful aircraft. Well, good morning, Ray. If you don't have slippery sidewalks, it looks like it's going to be a couple decent hours to get out before the next system moves in here. But thanks for checking in this morning, Ray.
Speaker B: No problem.
Speaker G: Thank you for being there. 73 KK 06:00am
Speaker A: and in case you didn't catch it, today is drink wine day. I know you don't need encouragement, but that is a national day. Not making it up. KK 6am AI 6 US Good morning to KO 6 MMI. Did I copy that call sign right? Mike, Mike India.
Speaker B: Yes sir.
Speaker F: You did. You copied that all the way.
Speaker A: Boy, I'm looking you up here and I am not finding that call sign in the database. New call,
Speaker B: brand new call.
Speaker A: Less than 24 hours old. Well, very good. Congratulations on that. That is strange. Typically QRZ is on top of their game, but not on this one. Hey, congratulations. Welcome to a wonderful hobby. What's your location and your name?
Speaker F: It's nice to get on. I've been listening to you guys for the past few days. My name is Jeff. I'm here in cold Roseville, California, right in the valley. So I guess kind of in between everyone here. I don't know if I said but long time listener, first time caller. So happy to be on the net with you guys. I've really been enjoying the past few days just listening to the community and really happy to get on here. I was given some wise words of wisdom to listen and then contacted this repeater by Theta, if anyone's familiar with her. I couldn't tell you her call sign at the moment, but she was an Elmer. That was at my, my PE test that I passed on February 14th. Happy Valentine's Day.
Speaker A: Well, congratulations to you. Let's see the 14th. So you would have tested with the Granite Bay VE group, Jeff K6 Psy down at the Douglas, Auburn, Folsom Raleys. So congratulations to you and welcome. Yeah, Theta, of course, will, she's a net control operator on her and her husband Jerry typically will take Thursday and I think this week they're doing Thursday. So tomorrow and Saturday. So welcome. Well, Jeff, you're making into the repeater just fine. And what is this gear that you went out and purchased or something that's been gifted to you? What kind of gear are you running?
Speaker F: Actually, kind of a funny story there. As I walked in, I had a couple of GMRS radios that I had bought for myself maybe 15, 20 years ago, which is all I had, and walked out with a perfect score on my technician. And then past general, but I guess because I got perfect score on the technician, I won a.
Speaker A: Radio at least Jeff gifted it to me and had all the local repeaters programmed in and I am transmitting from that little Baofeng UV5R. The funniest part of it is as I got home, my wife preemptively gave me a Valentine's Day gift of another two Baofeng radios. So I've gone from two GMRs to five little HT's and in a hot
Speaker B: skip at a job. That is great. And you know, many of us carry the Baofeng radios just because they are so readily available and you know the cost of them is very reasonable. So if you drop one, damage it, they are quick, easy to replace and you can clone them. Yeah. So very good, Will. That is awesome. Big shout out to the Granite Bay VE group with K6BSY Jeff heading up that group. I used to test with them in the past. Great group of people and wish you well. Congratulations. I think you said you passed technician and general.
Speaker A: That is correct and already scheduled for extra for next month.
Speaker B: Well, congratulations. Absolutely. So yeah, the Baofeng is going to be great for the tech license, but now that general is going to be calling out your name. We do have a ham fest coming up, so if you don't have the urge to buy something new, you might want to come out to the Loomis Ham fest at the historic loomis train station. March 28th. That's Saturday morning, March 28th, 7am Buyers arrive and yeah, there's one of the biggest, well, the biggest swap meet in Ham swap meet in Northern California and the first one of the season. So we usually have some pretty good deer there. So something you might want to check out.
Speaker A: Absolutely. That sounds right up my alley as I would like to get a little like a little small base station and definitely need some help with some antennas that I might want to be using for pota. I don't want to take up too much time. But yeah, thank you for the info. I think I'll definitely see you all there. To whomever shows up and I'll just
Speaker B: say a quick 75.
Speaker A: Thank you all for letting me on.
Speaker C: Pleasure to be here.
Speaker B: All right, Jeff. And just first and third Wednesday. So tonight is the third Wednesday of the month. We have something called the Elmer Net here on this repeater. So if you drop by this evening somewhere around 7:30pm to 8:30pm usually about an hour long, just check in even if you don't have any questions and. And you know, it's a great place to ask questions and just kind of listen to some of the advice that is given a great learning opportunity for learning. Well, Jeff, if you don't have a home, we would definitely like to invite you to check out any of our events with our club. And there are many clubs in the area, so you have a great choice of clubs and you don't have to just join one. But we certainly would invite you out. We are a social club with a ham radio problem, Jeff. Congratulations on your tech and general license. K06MMI. I'm going to invite everyone out there to grab your microphones. We know what we do. So everybody please grab your microphone right now. And let's welcome Jeff to a. Welcome to an awesome hobby kato6mmi. Welcome Jeff AI6us. Come on, everybody grab your mic.
Speaker D: As well.
Speaker B: Welcome, welcome, jeff. Kilo oscar six lima golf papa.
Speaker E: Congratulations.
Speaker B: Welcome, jeff. Wa60.
Speaker D: Welcome, jeff. Kg6nlw with a side comment.
Speaker B: Welcome jeff. K6bs1.
Speaker C: Welcome, jeff joel ko6kbs.
Speaker B: Well, there you go. There you go, Jeff. A lot of people welcoming you there and we'll definitely hope to see you around and hope to hear you on the radio. That big kerfuffle was just a heck of a lot of people welcome you to a fun hobby and we'll chat with you again soon. So you have a wonderful day.
Speaker D: A comment for Jeff.
Speaker A: Thank you so much, y'.
Speaker E: All.
Speaker A: I really appreciate it. Happy to be here. Looking forward to anything and everything that comes my way in this hobby, something I think I've been looking forward to for a long time and hopefully make some contacts with you on CW in the future, which would be my end goal. All right, y' all have a wonderful Wednesday.
Speaker B: Definitely a lot of CW fans out there. And now that it isn't a requirement, a very big interest in it by people who are want to do it for the fun of it. And we had a comment by Frank KG6NLW. Go ahead.
Speaker D: Oh, thank you, Brian. Yeah, no sleep. Hasn't found me yet. Jeff, congratulations. Welcome. If you're interested in looking for some gear before the very awesome Loomis ham swap every Thursday night, 8pm local on the N6IW system. That's November 6th. I see. Cold water ICW system. 8pm we have the NorCal SwapNet. And I'm sure if you caught it earlier this morning, if you ever want to know how you sound coming into the coffee Breaknet on the W6ek machine, check out my YouTube, KG6 and Elda.
Speaker E: Yeah.
Speaker D: And you can hear live, you know, give or take a few seconds, how well you're getting into the System. And again, congratulations and welcome. Thank you, Brian.
Speaker B: All right, very good information there, Frank. And yes, just kind of if you jump over there too quickly for the swap meet, you will miss a good portion of our Thursday night net. Hate that we cross paths there, but definitely an opportunity to jump between two things. Good morning, Jeff. You have a great day. And once again, congratulations. And I don't know if you heard K6BSY out there, your VEC for your event jumped in there. Jeff, go ahead. Give your congratulatory to Jeff if you'd like. Jeff to Jeff. Hey, K6BSY. Congratulations, Jeff. I noticed your call sign came in at 145 and you were registered for the extra at like 3:45. So you don't waste time. And unfortunately you had to wait for the FCC to show up at their office because of the holiday. Figure that was a difficult day for you, I'm sure. Anyway, congratulations, Jeff. K6 Psy. All right, Jeff, you have a wonderful day. Thank you, Jeff. Jeff and Jeff. K06MMI and K6BSY. Always great to have a new amateur radio operator join in and we get to celebrate this with you. And you have a great day. And let's check in with Joel. You've been very patient through all of this kerfuffle and fun stuff. KO6KBS. Good morning, Joel.
Speaker C: Good morning, Brian. And everyone on the net can't do anything about the mic gain. I'm on echo link on my cell phone in the taxi cab this morning. Nice to hear y' all talking about ferals. The family has consumed many a zoo as a family of six. Back to you, Brian. Good morning.
Speaker B: You know, sounds like you have some great memories with that place. Of course, the ice cream parlor that I went to after I moved to the Sacramento area was Leatherby's and Leatherbees. I gotta say, you know, doesn't have quite the polish and the presentation ferals. But I would put their ice cream up there right there with them any day. Well, good morning to you there, Joel.
Speaker A: Anything else for the net this morning?
Speaker C: No, not really. The good news is I've been studying for the extra class. I walked away from it for a little while because I just got overwhelmed. But I think the next VE session for that I'm going to go ahead and go for it and still live in the mobile home park. Can't put up an HF antenna, so I'm stuck on uhf. But looking for a house and planning to move as soon as possible so I can get back on HF Other than that, nothing going on. Live from the Dex Cab kbs, back to you.
Speaker B: Well, Joel, I do know many people who live in parts that are very creative with their antennas. And Carol, KP4MD and I know that N6EMS Bob too, both of them have standoffs on their roof. Very short standoffs like 4 to 6 inch standoffs above their roof. And so it just is a very thin, almost invisible wire running around the parameter of the roof and not even identified as an antenna or stand out, you know, near the roof line. So there are ways you don't, you know. Yes, we all love to have a gleaming beam antenna 100ft up in the air, but not always a possibility. Have a wonderful day. Joel, thanks for checking in. Ko6kbs. Be safe out on the road there.
Speaker C: All right, Brian, thank you for letting me check in and thanks for running the net and I'm going to start checking in regularly again. Have a good one, sir. 73.
Speaker B: All right. 7:3:2 there, Joel. Morning coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater and let's go ahead and start taking some more regular check ins. Just a reminder, monthly breakfast at the end of this month in Auburn, California, 7:30am at Mel's Diner. That's Highway 49 in Auburn, California. 7:30am we usually have a big, big, big crowd turn out and have a great social time and great breakfast together. Immediately following that, of course is the Fox Hunt. If you never done fox hunting before, it is a hidden radio transmitter somewhere in the greater Auburn area typically. And yeah, we go out there and we find that fox transmitter and it is a lot of fun. So even if you've never done a fox hunt before, come on up and ride around with somebody who maybe has a little more experience and join the Fun Fox hunting. February 28, 9am we meet in Mel's Diner parking lot on Highway 49 and our fox tender will be Marty KO6GXX and looking forward to a fun fox hunt. More information on the club website w6ek.org Good Morning Coffee Breaknet. Let's go ahead and take some more check ins. I'm Brian AI6us. If you're short on time, let me know you're short on time. Let me know you want to be a quick in and out. I will put you at the top of the take a check ins. N6ERL. K4lgi ko6th good morning. W8ldt quick in and out as 6 cg in out.
Speaker D: All right.
Speaker B: Good morning. This is who I copied. I hope I got everyone. Good morning to Joel for a quick in and out. Ai6dg Good morning Tim. W8LDT for In n Out. We'll put YouTube at the top of the list. Good morning Greg. K06th and good morning to K4LGI Sam. And let's see, N6ERL. I remember that call sign but it's been a while so I'm going to need to get refreshed on that, on your name. Good morning. Let's check in first. Tim W8LDT Good morning for a quick in and out. Good morning Brian. I just wanted to jump in here and say good morning to you and I'm wondering. I've been having problems with buzzing on my All Star node. My mobile, I wrapped it with a couple of ferrite cores on the electrical input or output I guess input. And I'm just wondering if my buzzing is gone or if it's still there. You know, the buzzing that I've heard on you in the past is gone. It sounds good. The only thing I hear is just a little. It sounds like a switching noise, you know, could be it doesn't sound like a Kenwood microphone timing noise, but maybe, maybe some sort of an inverter or something. But no, I would say that is a highly critical ear. But other than that, your audio sounds the best it's ever sounded.
Speaker D: Well, good.
Speaker B: Hopefully I've got this fixed. I've been dealing with this for, I don't know, probably two, three, four months now. So.
Speaker C: Okay, well I was just going to
Speaker B: jump in there and say good morning, good morning to the rest of the net. With that I will send it back to you. Ai6us w8LDT I'll be clear and listening. Yeah, Tim, I know the home you've been talking about and this definitely you addressed it. Sounds good. Have a wonderful day and I imagine you are headed out to grab lunch somewhere and you have a wonderful day there in Michigan. W8LDT AI6US and good morning Joel. Been a couple of moons since we've talked AI6 DG
Speaker E: I guess I've been lurking, listening and not always getting checking in. Although sometimes it's difficult to check in here. But I've been around and just enjoying the weather good or bad and from work to pay the bills.
Speaker B: More ham gear. Paying the bills because you bought new ham gear. So yeah, I think the last time we chatted maybe was right before winter field day. Hopefully you had. I think you were headed out for that and hopefully you had a successful event so, so headed to work to pay for some new ham gear. What do you have?
Speaker E: That was kind of a general statement, but specifically I picked up a Nikon IC905 and also the N gig transverter that comes with it should be on the way back. Maybe it'll be in the office today because I had it shipped to work. So that gets me 2 meter, 70 centimeter, 23 centimeter, whatever the 2.4 gig band is, 5 gig band and 10 gig band. Now if I can just figure out a use for all of those bands. Kind of thinking maybe of trying out some eme. But I think that radio is going to be just the start of a pretty big and deep rabbit hole of possible cam radio topics.
Speaker B: Well that is quite the radio. I've looked at that and 2 meter 440, 1.2 gig, 2.4, 5.6. I think the challenge above 440 is just finding somebody else, you know. And I tried doing the 12 band challenge for winter Field day and just to find anyone on the radio above 440 can be quite challenging. So hopefully there's a good user group down in the valley for these frequencies
Speaker E: then I need to go find them. And then a good tall clear hill with a good view of the valley
Speaker B: which I have found for the VHF contest. Very, very important around this area if you want to make those long haul contacts. And of course these frequencies, it's all line of sight. So yeah, there's some beautiful places in the foothills there. Well, congratulations Joe. And so I think you said that's arriving today and did you get the 10 gig transverter with that?
Speaker E: The 10 gig transfer transorder is what should be arriving today or very soon. I had the 905 for quite a while. I'm quite impressed with it. Of course for the price I'd better be pretty impressed with it. But it's way cool. I can bring up a waterfall and also an audio spectrum display all at once. So you got a heck of a lot of info potentially able to be displayed on you. Plus as long as I'm outdoors and can get a GPS sync, I can just bring up the GPS display and know instantly what grid I'm on rather than having to search for some website that's going to tell me.
Speaker B: Nice feature, very cool. I have the 9,700 and you know, really impressed with that. I don't know if you can give a comparison but you know, some of the weaknesses of the 9,700 I heard were addressed in the 905. Did you have any opportunity to compare these two radios side by side for their comparative bands?
Speaker E: Not in person, but I did do some research.
Speaker A: Between the two of them. And I kind of get the feeling that they're filling different niches. The 97700 is more base station and more for satellite work. The 905 is more portable and intended more for soda or field work and also for.
Speaker B: Yeah, very cool. Well, congratulations on the new transverter on the way there. And yes, I think it's very important when you start to get into these higher bands, know who the other operators are, what day they're going to be and what direction their, their antennas are going to be pointing. Definitely can be a challenge. Always amazed to see what they're doing down in New Zealand or Australia, you know, shooting across the open water expanses and the distance that they can cover on these bands. But very cool. EME would be pretty darn awesome and wouldn't be neat if we got something geosynchronous into these higher bands.
Speaker A: Always something to wish for, Always something new to try.
Speaker B: Yes indeed. Well, nice to talk to you there and Joel, you have a great day, a great drive in and yeah, I know it's hard to get into the net some mornings, but glad you made it in today and good to chat with you.
Speaker A: Especially difficult for me with my relatively short window, 30 minute drive in. But it's always nice listening to you. Something to entertain me on the way in and make the drive a lot shorter. Thanks for being there.
Speaker B: AI 60G back to you. Well, at least we improved the coverage on your driving route. It was all for you, Joel, all for you. Clearing with AI6DG and let's head on up to the top of the list. N6ERL Good morning.
Speaker C: Well, good morning Brian. This is Peter in Nevada City at 3,500ft on our mountain. We've got 14 inches of snow so far and had a power outage that just came back on.
Speaker B: Yippee.
Speaker C: I've been running on generators so I'm looking forward to saving the generator and the fuel if I can get out and switch things over again. Anyway, it's been a cold day.
Speaker B: You know, no snow has fallen yet in Meadow Vista. You know, we're just at that kind of that line where if the snow moves low we'll get it, but usually clears quickly. 14 inches of snow up on Banner Mountain. Hopefully it's something that we don't get. Some cold snap afterwards that will lock it in. How long was your power out for?
Speaker C: Well, the power was out for almost 23 hours. It went out yesterday morning at about 9:30ish and just came back on. I just Got the notification, so I had to go out and check the meter to see. And sure enough, the meter's lit up so I can now transfer back over.
Speaker B: Yeah, last time we lost, lost power was during Snowmageddon. And luckily we were only out for a short period of time. But yes, some of those remote areas can be down for many, many days. I think out in Weimar, one location was out for almost what, eight days or so. It was a crazy amount of time. Well, I'm glad to hear that your power came back on. And it was cold enough outside that you probably could just set the milk on the back porch.
Speaker C: Well, that's what the generator is for. Keep the refrigerator going and of course to keep. Keep the batteries charged and the radios operating. But yeah, no, it's quite cold this morning. It's 27 degrees here. Hasn't budged. So if we get any more precipitation, it'll be pretty cold and hopefully be pretty light and dry. Powdery, kind of. So that was.
Speaker B: That would be good.
Speaker C: Anyway, just thought I would check in. I did try yesterday, but with all of the kind of packet loss and things that were going on, you weren't hearing me. So it's nice to be heard today. And your signal seems to be stronger today as well. So I'm not sure what. Maybe you knocked the snow off the antenna there at the vault.
Speaker B: Yeah, yesterday was one of those technical nightmares, I gotta tell you. Our voter system was down, so we were on a backup receiver, which is not as good a coverage, of course, as the voter system. And yeah, it was. I was coming in yesterday through All Star through my node, which has a lot of noise on it. It was just a less than optimal day, but glad to be back to normal operations. Well, I'm sorry, Peter, that I had forgotten your name. It has been a while since we chatted and I had moved all of our 70,000 check ins over to the archive the other day. So we're only going back to the first of the year right now. But glad to have you drop in and make it more often. And hopefully you don't need any help to dig out there. I know some things. You know, we have another system coming in, so hopefully that doesn't lock in.
Speaker C: Well, no, I've got good neighbors and I've also got a nice Honda snow blower which does a great job. So we get out and try to knock things down before. Before they get too high so we can get in and out if needed. A lot of trees down up here though, so we've had a lot of power outages in the area. Sort of reminiscent of Snowmageddon when I had 48 inches on the ground and we were out of power for 12 days. So thank goodness that's not happening again.
Speaker B: Very similar situations, though. You know, the SAP is starting to come back up and there are some trees that are starting to bud out already. And yeah, I was hoping that this wouldn't turn into another Snowmageddon. So I guess in many ways we've dodged two of the bullets. Third one is on the way. Peter have a wonderful day. Great to chat with you this morning. And definitely I have a snowmobile. I would love to use it someday on this side of the mountain. N6ERL AI6US Coffee Break 73 thanks for checking in.
Speaker C: Take care.
Speaker D: Brian.
Speaker C: 73 N6ERL
Speaker B: let's head on back to Denver. Somebody who is used to snow and probably chuckling at all our conversation here. K4LGI Good morning, Sam.
Speaker D: Good morning, Brian. Everybody in the net. Everybody's sounding good this morning here in Denver. About 46 or so right now, very sunny, very nice weather. Feels like the AC is on high, so can't complain. Just finished it up, headed back here to the Laundromat hot water. The building was out and I had some things I thought may have a bed bug in them. Bed bug in them and so I want to get them out then into the washing machine and take care of that. So just listening to him this morning and sort of reading the mail. Thank you very much Doug and the others that Tom got the certificate system up and running. Sounds great. And we'll kick back here and listen and see what everybody has to say. This morning I just threw my clothes and weather blankets and all into the dryer and sit back here for a while. K4LG Ivy See you later. Brian.
Speaker B: Oh man, yes indeed. I have not been around any of those types of things for, for a while since probably my daughter was in grade school or something and man, that can be a pain. Well, put those blankets in on super high for a super long time and whatever you do, just don't warm them
Speaker D: up,
Speaker B: overheat them and kill those little buggers. Good morning to you. Always a pleasure to have you drop in this morning. And yes, a big, big shout out to everybody who worked on the radio system yesterday. And I don't know if you heard, but it all came down to a GPS timing issue. Our master timer somehow was two seconds off and they're all GPS synchronized. And who knows why, how but Shows the importance of technology in our systems nowadays. So yeah, the Internet was working, all the radios were working, but the system just said nope, none of these radios are valid because the time is off. You have a great day. Sam, back over to your final and thanks for checking in on this Wednesday morning. K4LGI AI6US Coffee Breaknet.
Speaker D: Thank you very much. I am trying to shake off maybe a cold here. It's like the time I was gargling mouthwash two or three times last night and I hope I will not have to deal with that again. People here lately have been having it. I had it about three or four weeks ago.
Speaker B: We'll see you later.
Speaker D: KE4LGI
Speaker B: exiting last year and into the beginning of this year I had one that just, you know, started out as a cold but it just hung on for about almost three weeks and just could not lose the dry cough. It was something else. So hopefully that is not what you're gonna have to deal with there. Gargle on my friend. Gargle on K4LGI Sam in Denver. Have a wonderful day. Good morning Greg Ko6th Boy, we didn't hit freezing last night. KB6SSN indicated that he had frost in his place and I'm just kind of wondering about you. Strange, strange that it would freeze in Auburn but not here.
Speaker E: Good morning Brian. Good morning everyone. Greg Ko6h well, according to the official thermometer up on the roof it just touched 32.2, was low last night at about left at 3 in the morning it took a dive and got down to 32.2 kind of bump, bumped around until the sun came up and now It's a balmy 37. So I don't know the rain. Let's see, the rain according to the instrumentation ended about what was it? About 7 o' clock yesterday. So I haven't checked the physical rain gauge yet but the electronic one claims no rain since midnight. So I have no idea what happened yesterday. Anyway the rain has been decreasing and the temperature going down so between the two we might dodge this one. I don't know. Remembering back to 1980, what was it? 89, 89, 90 somewhere back it was President's Day weekend, 1990 I think it was with the. We had 8 inches of snow here and paralyzed the place but the kids had fun. Toboggan and all that kind of stuff got on out down the street. They went yay. And it was the best disaster you could imagine because you know it was a three day weekend. Friday was, it was the Storm knocked out power. Saturday, sunny day. You hear chainsaws off in the distance as people are starting to clean up. Power came back on on Monday and then back to work on Tuesday. Oh, well, ko50h back to you.
Speaker B: And the kids loved it. Parents remembered it a little bit differently, but the kids loved it. Well, I just checked. You know, to be a good ham radio operator, I had to open up my weather app and see what my weather station is saying here. And yes, shows that we got about 20th, 20th of an inch yesterday afternoon, but then nothing overnight. And for this system though, almost right. Just shy of seven inches of rain. So it dumped pretty darn good.
Speaker E: Yeah, I measured three inches the first after the first day, then inch and inch 80, 85, I think it was just under two inches. And then we'll see what when I go out check it again today, see what I got yesterday. To the. Let's see to the storms. Batteries are charged. Yay. Battery day. Actually not totally charged. Backup batteries at 100%. The main shack battery is at 84%. And I'm getting a whole 24 watts down from the sky. So that's good. Got almost nothing yesterday. To the GPS quandary, it sounds like the Damon got stuck and something happened there. And so it got behind by a couple minutes, a couple seconds. My car, the one with the GPS in it, has a little aftermarket telemetry thing that I put in. It beeped me yesterday, says, hey, your car is going down the road, but it's in park. Meaning suggesting that it's being towed
Speaker A: or
Speaker E: flatbedded in this car's case. But of course it's safely in the garage. Every so often just goes into these fits where it has that. I think it's a GPS constellation alignment thing just happens that don't get a good view of the right satellites in the sky. And as the signal flips around, it thinks it's in a different place all of a sudden. And therefore it moved and it's moving. So if you average it, you know, you end up with a velocity owner. That's what's going on. KO60H.
Speaker B: You know, I looked to see if there was any, you know, any changes to the datum, which of course had happened several years ago when they, I think, changed the. I'm trying to remember if it was a month or something in the datum was changed, which they were convinced was going to crash the entire system. And yeah, I was kind of curious what might have happened. But yeah, three, four voters were all registering the exact synchronized Time. But the voter in the master in our vault was two seconds off. And it should be synchronizing and it just stayed consistent. It didn't drift anymore. It just stayed consistently two seconds off. Kind of interesting. Something to look for next time. Self driving. Tesla's gone haywire. Leave the world behind. A 2023 movie. It has a good scene that should make all Tesla owners hair stand up on the back of your necks.
Speaker D: Comment?
Speaker B: I don't know Greg. How do you take the interruptions? Should we. Yeah, what do you think Greg?
Speaker E: Yeah, go ahead. Comment. KO60H.
Speaker F: Good morning Brian. You know the weirdest thing about that GPS issue is that the master was either two seconds ahead or all of the remote rtcms receivers were 2 seconds behind. Being 2 seconds ahead seemed really difficult to me. And having 6 of the other ones 2 seconds behind seems almost impossible as well.
Speaker B: The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Speaker A: Hmm,
Speaker B: I don't know what to make of that either. Yeah, yeah, it would make sense if something slipped behind. But to actually jump forward, that is pretty interesting. Over to you there Greg. Leave the world behind 2023. If you haven't watched it, you gotta. Your Tesla may just take. Now yours isn't self driving but they will just take off and there'll be a big pile up in the the northeast somewhere.
Speaker E: Yeah, that's of course the worry is when all these things have a mind of their own. But the mind is a little bit squirrely. Doug, you might check the log and see where the GPS thinks it is and see if it moved because two seconds. I'm not sure how far that is in terms of horizontal distance on the surface, but it might be a diagnostic kind of thing that your location see if it had changed recently and maybe that's the source of it. It thinks it's somewhere else. It's not. And of course there's a lot of trees around the vault there, so perhaps shadowing us up kind. But you guys will figure it out. It seems to be working right now. I'm on.
Speaker C: I'm on low power.
Speaker E: 10 watts. And yay. Thanks for getting it back online. I'll let you guys go. And I am continuing my self imposed fasting for the medical procedure on.
Speaker A: Friday Lent in a bottle tomorrow.
Speaker B: Yay.
Speaker A: Ko6th not going to go all 80
Speaker B: meters on you guys.
Speaker A: 73. Thank you for sparing us the detail. And hopefully your doctor warms his hands and all that other instruments. You know, Greg, two seconds though, you know, would put us what, three, 330,000 miles away.
Speaker C: So.
Speaker A: Yeah, that would be quite a distance that that little node would have thought it traveled. Yeah. If you're going vertically, horizontally, every 15 degrees is an hour. So how far is two seconds?
Speaker D: It's not that far.
Speaker A: KO6th a horizontal travel. That's interesting. Yeah. See where it thinks it was? I don't know if. Doug, did the datum that you collected show? Well, it's awesome. Multiple satellites. A crazy situation over. Doug put a hat on it.
Speaker E: Well, it does raw computation for multiple satellites and then it fit into an Earth clock time. Yeah, maybe it's possible, but I think it's actually some violation of moving faster than the speed of light or something like that. We'll have to get Tom on later. You know, he's a physicist. Maybe he can straighten that out for us.
Speaker A: You know, maybe we just talk too fast on this dent. Hey, Doug, I just want to thank you for physically going over to the vault yesterday a few times and hauling a laptop with you and exploring some of the network stuff as well. So thank you for everything that you put into that. And it's wonderful to have things operating again and scratching our heads wondering why,
Speaker E: you know, I gotta respond to that. One of the things that I've gotten better at is planning ahead. So I actually took one of those
Speaker A: little electric floor,
Speaker D: floor heaters over there
Speaker E: with me because, boy, I gotta tell you, it gets cold in there and it was cold and wet and yucky yesterday. But anyway, what we won't do for a good summer signal 73.
Speaker A: Oh yeah, the crazy things we do to get a good signal in amateur radio. That is for sure.
Speaker C: Doug.
Speaker A: Thank you so much. A heated mat. Lovely. By the way, we're going to have a brand new lithium ion battery delivered tomorrow for the vault. So. Yes. Power, power, power. W2VX AI6 US Coffee Break 7 3. We are at 9:13am Pacific Time. And let's go ahead and take some check ins here. I've seen a couple key ups from Fireside. Just wondering if somebody from Fireside was trying to break Fireside east coast hub. Was there somebody trying to check in? I bet it was somebody trying to check out dtmf. Get me the heck out of here. What kind of net is this they're talking to each other. Good morning. Coffee Breaknet on the W60K repeater. I'm Brian AI6us in beautiful Meadow Vista, California. The Coffee Breaknet is where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping. Let's go ahead and take some more check INS who's out there this morning
Speaker C: and 2DYI 86 QZH.
Speaker B: Good morning Brian. Take a break.
Speaker A: Steve. Kilo oscar 6 lima golf papa glenn dose quick in and out. Good morning. All right, good morning Glendos Glenn, K06 LGP. Good morning to Doug again for a recheck there. And good morning to Peter, KD6QZH and good morning to good after morning to Patrick. N2DYI. Sounds like, sounds like Peter might be a little short on time. So without objection, if I hear nothing I will move him to the top of the list. Come on guys. I'm giving plenty of time for your objections. They like you, Peter. Good morning KD6QZH. You're at the top of the dog pile.
Speaker C: Good morning.
Speaker A: Thank you.
Speaker B: I'm drinking a quick cup of coffee like my collie break. Not too much ad this morning. Hope everyone is doing well. The repeater sounds like it survived the storm and I hope everyone is doing okay. Thinking about the people that they're trying to locate in Nevada County. I just wanted to pop in and
Speaker A: say good morning to don't want to hold it up.
Speaker B: Got to get back to work. Take care 73 Brian and good morning to everybody on the next.
Speaker A: All right, Peter. Yeah, thanks for mentioning that about that avalanche yesterday. I believe there were like, as I understand, I think there were somewhere around 16 people out, 4 guides and 12 folks were out doing a cross country skiing outcountry skiing adventure and avalanche hit and I believe they last evening I heard that they had brought six people out, two were hospitalized. Does anybody have any updates for have they located any more of those that were involved yesterday?
Speaker D: N6 me.
Speaker A: Yeah, go ahead Jim, with your information.
Speaker D: Yeah, I read on the the Guardian news media outlet this morning so I can only believe it was that might be among the latest. They're still looking for the remainder of the party they've been unable to locate and still in search mode. And you're correct, six were rescued, two hospitalized. They had one guide for a party of 15. They originally thought 16 but just the entire party. Apparently it was a backcountry expedition supposed to last a few days which suggests that they weren't downhill. They were up, you know, cross country skiing. But that's in the Guardian this morning. N6MED.
Speaker A: Well, thank you for that update. Yeah, so interesting. The report I had heard yesterday was that they had four guides. So if they only had one guide for that many people that, you know, maybe they were experienced, maybe they just needed somebody that could trail or something. But it does seem kind of, you know, not going to quarter quarterback them from home here. But how unfortunate a situation. 10 sounds like 9 maybe still missing. But thanks Jim for the update. An 6 me day AI 6 us. Appreciate it. J. All right, we cleared with Peter there in six. Excuse me. KD6QZH and let's check in recheck with Doug WQVX. Go ahead, Doug.
Speaker E: Hey, Brian, thanks for the recheck. So Dan, WQ gave me a USB to RX232 adapter at one point and I put it in a special place and cannot find it. Did he give you one? Because if he did, you could bring it along with the rtcm.
Speaker A: No, but I have many adapters because Rs2 332 to USB adapters, I always included those and I have some FTDIs as well as some Prolifics. So I have several different brands that I used to include with some equipment that I used to sell. So if you want me to bring those along, I will.
Speaker D: Roger that.
Speaker A: Roger dodger W2VX clear. All right. Yes, indeed. We're still doing some searching of the log, so you have to have some the right tools for the job. All right, Patrick, into DYI after morning.
Speaker C: Good after morning, Brian. And well, you're talking about timing issues, which I have one of those. It's certainly not as critical, but I just noticed I'm on an HT this morning that has the ability to synchronize with gps. And well, it would have the ability to do this if it had the GPS chip. The firmware supports it, the radio supports the chip, but there's no GPS in this radio. So it has a function where you can download a file and it'll tell you what satellites are passing overhead and it will tune into those frequencies if you wanted to. And that of course requires two things. It requires a GPS to synchronize your time and also to give your location. You can actually set the location manually, but I can't figure out how to set the time. And when I checked this morning, it was July 18, 2061.
Speaker A: Well, I was going to comment your audio this morning is kind of garbly, very short chop to it and that might explain maybe you have a little corrosion on your Flux capacitor there.
Speaker C: Yeah, I'm trying to diagnose this kind of odd intermittent issue with this particular node. Some nodes it does it. Some nodes, it's. It's perfectly stable. It doesn't like 51018 at all on the outbound and trying to figure that one out, but. Yeah, go to Radio Shack and get a new flux capacitor, I guess.
Speaker A: Or maybe put some dielectric on the connection next time before you wrap her up. So with this radio that you're talking about with the built in GPS in the software but not in the hardware, happen to be a RAD tel?
Speaker C: No, it's a tyt. You actually can put a chip on this thing. There's a cheap chip you can get on eBay for seven bucks that'll add GPS to it, but it doesn't come with it.
Speaker A: Okay, yeah, I know that the RAD tel is kind of a common software. I think that it goes across multiple platforms and they'll activate the gps. I did not know that the tytht had a chip. Is this that daughterboard chip that people would solder on for frequency expansion?
Speaker C: I think it's mostly just for the GPS module. There's a couple of radios that support it. The one of the radios is this one, the MDUV380. The MDUV390 is essentially the same radio, but it's IP60 something.
Speaker A: Okay, not familiar with those radios. Oh, we're doubling.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker A: Patrick, you're showing keyed up into DYI. Do you copy? AI6US. Coffee Breaknet.
Speaker C: I did this again. I'm not. My radio is not keyed up. I got a courtesy tone and I am not transmitting.
Speaker A: It's a liar. Okay, well, our system obviously thinks you are still connected and transmitting. Very odd. Well, something definitely was going on with that node anyway. Very choppy. Something in the Kodak. Kind of crazy. Well, good morning to you. What are your plans for later today?
Speaker C: Yeah, and this is the only note that note does that on. I'm not sure why. Anyway, not a whole lot planned for today. I've got a dentist appointment tomorrow, so. I'm definitely looking forward to that. Like I'm looking forward to anything related to that.
Speaker A: Maybe when you're done, they'll give you a lollipop or something else. Break another tooth.
Speaker C: You know, they didn't last time. I was kind of expecting they would do that to promote, you know, return visits.
Speaker A: I always got a kick out of that. My dentist, when I was growing up always had the lollipops at the front desk and the lady behind the nurse now don't bite on it. Yeah, I'm a kid.
Speaker C: Yeah, that's kind of how that works. Oh, my node just made a noise for a second. Yeah, it's definitely. Oh, the whole Internet went out. Okay, that would explain it.
Speaker A: Well, something's definitely going on. Well, we had Internet burps on our end last year yesterday. Maybe the migration just went east.
Speaker C: Yeah, it just went from west to east. I'm on my mobile data right now. Yeah, the whole Internet here just said bye, bye, you're done. Actually we got a thing yesterday from T Mobile Fiber and they said yeah, we're going to give you notice that we're doing a maintenance period between 11pm last, last night at 11am this morning. Well it's after that and yeah, now they're doing it.
Speaker A: Okay, whatever. Well, for data point you're still showing up on, on Superman here. So that node still is showing connected. So I don't know if that will help you kind of narrow down where this hang up is occurring because obviously it's not in your house. They're here.
Speaker C: Oh yeah, according to the node it is good and proper disconnected. So I don't know, I don't even know where that would be coming from.
Speaker A: Well, do you want me to go ahead and drop for you? I'd be more than happy to do that. Not, not running any interference on us on this end. Not holding anything open, but it's obviously doing something funky on the supermod.
Speaker C: Well when I. All I can tell you is when I unkey I get the I'm not connected noise so it, it thinks it's not connected anyway.
Speaker A: All right, so I am hitting disconnect right now. So there we go into dyi. I can't disconnect you. I don't know, never mind. Well Patrick, good after morning to you and you. Have a wonderful day ahead. And yes, they're the cable company, they're not going to be there on time.
Speaker C: Yeah, they T Mobile acquired this ISP last year and they basically haven't touched any of the network stuff. It's to time. It still has the old addresses and the old routes and I was kind of thinking maybe this long maintenance period, if it happened today, would be maybe the start of that for better or worse. I don't know. SCISP has been doing some really strange things lately, but it's still better than the other option we have here, which is spectrum, so. Well, you get what you get around here, I guess. Anyway Everyone, have a great day. Good to hear you this morning.
Speaker A: Well, you have a wonderful day, Patrick. And by the way, I cannot drop 508-422-50-8422. Just stays connected even when I. When I select it and attempt to disconnect it from the virtual node. Kind of crazy. Something's up. You have a great day. Thanks for checking in into DYI AI 6us. 73.
Speaker C: 73. Hopefully it'll just time out eventually. I don't know. It's not me. 7 3.
Speaker A: How many times have we heard that in our life? You know, it's not you, it's me. Have a wonderful day. All right, let's check with Glenn. KO6 LGP. Was it worth hanging around for? Glenn, good morning.
Speaker E: Good morning, Brian.
Speaker D: And the net. Yeah, it's always worthwhile. Good information, good people.
Speaker A: Just listening this morning. Doing my studying and a little piano
Speaker D: practice later on in the afternoon.
Speaker A: So, enjoying the day. Take care, everyone. 73, this is Kilo Oscar Six Lima Golf Papa. Go ahead, dose. Well, Glenn, you know, because you keep your Q so short there, please let me know that you want to just be a quick in and out.
Speaker A: And we can easily fit these shorter conversations in at the beginning. So you don't have to wait around for us to. For me to get back to you. So please feel free to use the system for your advantage, Glenn. You have a wonderful day and yeah, enjoy the little respite between the storms and Sounds like you're making good use of that time. Ko6LGP AI6US. Happy hump. Day 7 3. And Patrick is transmitting again. You had disappeared for a moment but now you are back. Not sure what's up. 508422 node is back and showing in transmit mode. Does that help you, Patrick? I guess not. Hey, good morning. Coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater and connected nodes. Just want to say hello to W6GRC up in Orland, California. Everybody that's coming in on Ham Radio, Wilderness Network and Fireside Network, East Coast Hub. And I know there's a couple of other repeater systems tied in as well. I know our friends up in Saskatoon, Canada. Good morning to you. Great to have folks in and of course Twin Falls, Idaho. Good to have you folks tied into the system as well. So good morning to Everybody. I'm Brian AI6US. I will take some more check ins right now. Coffee Breaknet who would like to check in and say Good Morning K06IMP.
Speaker B: Sm6xgp for in and out.
Speaker A: All right, good morning there tony. Good afternoon, evening, I should say sm6xgp and good morning to matt k06imp. Did I miss any? All right, that's who we have. Good morning Matt, Ko6Imp. What do you have? Oh wait, I'm sorry Tony. For a quick in and out Tony's going what am I, chopped liver? That's just a saying over here in the U.S. tony, when you're wondering are you really worth anything because people are skipping over you. What am I, chopped liver? SM6XGP no you're not chopped liver.
Speaker B: Tony.
Speaker A: Good morning.
Speaker B: Yeah, good morning Brian and Annette. SM660P Here, turn my mic down so you don't get all the echo. Yep. Over here in Sweden we have freezing cold. I think it was down to 13 or 14 degrees. Minus 14 degrees Celsius over here this night. So it's cold outside here but we are going to get warmer weather to the weekend with some rain and stuff. So I think the snow will be
Speaker A: gone
Speaker B: after the weekend here. Yeah, there was a strange issue there with All Star. My mic and my other radio less node they showed still connected to you but no audio on either of them. So I have to restart the connection both on the mic and the other node in in the shack here to get you back. I don't know what's happened there. And after that you talk with Patrick of his node was connected, but it wasn't connected all. So maybe some issue going on there. Yeah, nothing else special going on over here other than the cold weather and some all Star issues there.
Speaker A: Brian, back to you. Well, let me just do a quick all Star reset here, just one moment.
Standby, please. Ai6us. We're coming back online. Sm6xgp.
Speaker A: All right, let's see if we're back. Sm6xgp i6us coffee breaknet.
Speaker B: Yep, I think I'm here. Yeah, I hear myself back on the mic. There was a couple of problems to connect to you there after you restarted
Speaker A: and the mic but not the other node.
Speaker B: Now I think we are back online.
Speaker A: No, something was going on with, with n2dyi's node was just hung up in there and then yeah, when I went to try to restart it would not even let me into the system. So not really sure what what happened there. But let's see. Let's pick up all the pieces of broken glass and try gluing them back together. Good morning, Tony. Anything for the net?
Speaker B: Yeah, not very much going on over here. I don't know if you hear the little bit of cold weather report over here with minus 13 degrees Celsius and it's 4 freezing cold over here but hopefully we get more warmer weather through the weekend and summer rain and that will take away the snow. I think. Other than that, nothing special going on. It's a little bit busy week so I'm waiting for some grocery delivery here in an hour's time I think. So I take care of that. And yeah, that's what's going on over here, Brian. Hope you can get all your systems back online and everything is working as it should. I listened to you yesterday and
Speaker A: I
Speaker B: jumped onto online meeting for an hour and when I backed it the net was completely gone. But I heard here during today's net that it was some problem with the repeater that. So back to you, Brian. AI6US SM6X GP
Speaker A: yes, yesterday we had an unexplained issue with GPS timing and it was 2 seconds off. Not milliseconds, 2 seconds off. So we're doing some time travel evidently. All right. Yeah, Tony, I think we just maybe had an Internet outage there because we lost all connection to the vault for a moment or two. So I think maybe that's what was going on. Some Internet related issues. Well, good morning to you. Good evening I should say. You have a great dinner and I hope you make it through this cold snap and you have a wonderful day ahead. And I think you said that it was going to be warming up a little bit and turning back to the normal rain. SM6 XGP over. Always a pleasure, Tony. Thanks for your patience. 7.3.
Speaker B: No problem, Ryan. I'm sitting here waiting for the grocery delivery and the dinner, so no problem. And yeah, we are going back to I think more normal Gothenburg weather. We have had this cold season for nearly two months and that's very long time for a beer. I heard someone said that 2010 was the last time it was so cold. Have a nice day Brian. And all on other on the net. Stay safe over there and talk to you later. 7376 DB
Speaker A: yeah, these once in a hundred year events are coming a little more often, aren't they? Have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking in Tony. Clearing with SM6X GP. Let's head on up to. Up to. Let's see Sheridan Probably Matt K06Imp Sheridan, California Good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning Brian and Matt. This is matt ko6imp. I'm mobile just out of Sheridan, just out of Lincoln actually right now. Heading off to do some errands today. Been doing a little bit of FT8 and some photos and things. This morning I did a little bit of FT8 and actually was going into Indonesia quite well. So that was kind of fun. Enjoyed that. Just to let you know Brian, I have installed FreeDV. It has. I have not got it fully configured. The Push to Talk portion works. I've tested that but I haven't quite quite got the audio to go back to the display on the computer yet. So we'll get it figured out. I've only fiddled with it for a short period other than that around the place. The Great Kitten Kerfuffle continues. We have captured four more of our unfixed barn cats for their tutoring. So that's all going well. Back to you Brian.
Speaker A: Yes indeed. For their tutoring. Well, glad to hear that you are taking care of that and making sure that the current generation or future generations are placed in check. Yes, this morning I was up about 4:30 or so on. Started out on 160 pretty dead this morning. 80 meters and 40 meters. 80 meters. A little opening into Oceania and Japan but 40 meters was hopping this morning. I don't know what band you were on but 40 meters before sunrise was just hopping into Oceania. Indonesia, Japan, China, Vietnam, Thailand. Quite a nice opening this morning.
Speaker C: Yeah, that was quite amazing. Very nice indeed. I was busy on the early morning roundtable on the BARC Network but sharing time back and forth between HF and VHF and you know, it's worked out nicely. You know I really, I'm really enjoying my FT8 experience here and I love doing POTUS with it too. So yeah, I'm working on a lot of different little projects that are here and there and trying to learn more as I can. Want to get free DB going and I Definitely want to sit down and play around with Fusion a little bit. I've got some got a couple repeaters that are Fusion capable. Setup just haven't gotten around to talking to anybody yet. I'll do it anyway. I'll let the net go. You guys have a great day. Thank you for letting me get in here and yak a bit. And to everybody, thank you so much for all the fun we always have at the meetings and I look forward to working with you at summer Field Day. This is Matt Kosximp.
Speaker A: Yeah, Matt and I are going to be the antenna setup team and it's going to be fun to work together with the whole setup. We usually have somewhere between 40 plus people showing up to help set up for field day so it is a lot of fun organizing the antenna setups. Good morning to you there Matt. Good luck tutoring your barn cats and you have a wonderful day and looking forward to maybe rolling out and seeing how you do at the upcoming Fox Hunt the last Saturday of the month. You have a great day. Thanks for checking in. K06IMP AI6US Coffee Break 73 KO6IMP K thanks guys.
Speaker C: Talk to you later.
Speaker A: Bye bye. Well, sorry about the little hiccup that we had on the on the All Star connections. Hopefully every we certainly lost probably about 50 plus connections on that unfortunately. But let's see who's out there this morning. We are getting coming up on 10:00 clock hour Pacific time so about 10 minutes remaining in the net. So let's see who else is out there this morning for some quick in and outs for the Coffee breaknet. And at this point maybe just one long rag chew. It's up to you. Good morning coffee breaknet. Anyone want to check in at this time?
Speaker D: Kilo Charlie 6
Speaker A: I'm heavily distracted here so if you would just simply put your put me in as a login this morning. I don't have anything really productive to I don't even have a bunch of palaver for you this morning. So just put me on your list and have a terrific day. You and the rest of the net. N6MED got you on the list from earlier already but I'll put a little tick mark beside it that you came back in and I heard Graydon in there as well and then also Rick. So yeah, go ahead Rick. Recheck ke0y j. This is ke0yjj. You were asking about my radio list node and I have it set up inside of VMware using Linux and I'm using IAX RPT as my sound control and that's what happened earlier is the app I thought went behind something. It wouldn't let me reopen it. Come to find out it's hiding out down there in the taskbar. Anyways, just wanted to tell you about that. Ke0yjj I will be clear. Okay. Yeah. VMware Linux and using IAX app. Very cool. And yeah, those snowball microphones, they look odd but man they. I used one for years and really, really enjoyed the audio. And you put that in a little recording booth with some sound foam and it had very good response. Very cool. Nice system there Rick. Thanks for sharing that. And then a recheck by Graydon KC6SLA.
Speaker D: You know Brian, we no more than got done talking about batteries this morning and smoke alarm batteries and the smoke alarms in this house just went crazy. I'm sure it was no connection to what we were talking about or anything you did, but Lisa and I got the eight foot ladder out because if you have a chain system and that is smoke alarms that are all connected together, the way you tell which one is initiating the alarm, you look for the one that's blinking red. It'll go from green to blinking red. So we knew it was the one in the front room which is no less than 10ft off the floor. The hardest one to get to of course. Pulled it down, checked the battery, battery was good. But I took it out in the garage and I blew air through it and I chased a little spider out of it. So that's another tip is if you have a smoke detector that's going off at random and you can't figure out why and the battery's good, you might pull look for insects that have moved in there because they tend to be a little warm inside. So the insects like the warmth.
Speaker A: KC6 that's the late thanks to the recheck. How interesting. That spider was so intent on getting away from the noise of the coffee break net that he went in and took out your smoke detector. You know what? Ireland had their saint that chased out the snakes and we've had rat control issues and I guess I am the spider whisperer. So yes, coffee breaknet, we are leading the spiders away from your domicile. You're welcome.
Speaker D: Yeah Jennifer, I think as we you know we have a pest control service that comes in and sprays every month and it's interesting because we still get the occasional spider or insect and particularly this time of year with all the rain it's chasing them indoors, they're Trying to get away from the weather and get inside where it's warmer. But just a tip, we had that happen once in the bedroom, alarm the ants move and kept setting it off at random. And that was. Someday I'll tell you the full story on that one. That was interesting. Anyway, back to that KC6 sle.
Speaker A: The ants go marching one by one. Hurrah, hurrah. Screenshot I, I just got an email from you. Screenshot from the front deck cam. Oh, in Tahoma. Okay, so how much snow you're up to? Almost the deck rail over at Tahoma, which is Lake Tahoe, your cabin over there. Earlier, earlier we had a check in. Trying to remember Peter N6ERL up there, Banner Mountain, not far from you. They have 14 inches snow.
Speaker B: So how much snow do you have
Speaker A: up in Grass Valley at your place, Graydon?
Speaker D: It must have snowed a little bit overnight because there were a few patches in the, in the sheltered areas this morning when we got up. Nothing so far, but I'll tell you, it's 35 degrees outside and according to the weather program it feels like 23 with the breeze is blue through and the breeze is picking up. So it might actually be colder. Now wind chill wise forecast and you probably have the same in Metavista. The forecast is for it to start snowing at 10 o' clock tonight and
Speaker A: snow all night long. I saw that. Yeah, I did see that. Did you hear that the gentleman who invented the WCT wind chill temperature index passed away? I think he was like 94 years old, but he felt like 85.
Speaker D: Ah, you set me up and you got me on that one. Okay, thanks Brian. Anyway, you better get back to the net. I just wanted to chime in here and give you another.
Speaker A: You know, I can't tell you the
Speaker D: amount of hours I've spent on smoke detectors in my life keeping them up and operating. But, but they're a good thing to maintain. They're a good thing to have KC6 sle.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's all the other detectors, the carbon monoxide detector and all the others that you know. And a good reminder, you know, they need to be replaced. Speaker A: Amateur Radio Newsline Report Number 2520 with the release date of Friday, February 13, 2026 to follow in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The following is a QST Kenya becomes the only African nation hosting astronaut ham radio contacts. Shortwave service delivers news to Iran and transmitter wearing birds in Australia give lessons in survival. All this and more as Amateur Radio Newsline Report number 2520 comes your way right now from around the world. This is Newsline, Amateur Radio's first independent on the air News and Bulletin service. Now reporting from Charleston, West Virginia, here's Jim Dameron, NATMW in this week's top story, the African nation of Kenya takes a big leap forward as amateur radio and space converge formally in the months ahead, Kenya has become part of ERIS amateur radio on the International Space Station. Jim Meachin, ZL2BHF brings us the details.
Speaker B: The Kenya Space Agency has announced that students, professionals and others will have the opportunity to communicate live over amateur radio with astronauts aboard the iss. Kenya has become the only African nation chosen to participate in the program. Astronaut contacts are expected to take place between July and December. The country's selection comes as it deepens its commitment to providing greater STEM education. The nation has been encouraging space science studies and innovation through efforts such as the Kenya National Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Learning Ecosystem. This national emphasis is a major part of Vision 2030, a development initiative to industrialise and raise the quality of life in Kenya. In preparation for ARAS participation, Kenya's Space Agency and the Pan African Citizens Science Elaboratory will collaborate on public outreach, technical coordination and of course, the selection of schools and other educational institutions. Speaker A: radio, so valued as a carrier of critical information at various times in the world's history, has been declining. The BBC, however, has brought back an emergency shortwave radio service to deliver programming to Iran. Graham Kemp, VK4BB has those details.
Speaker C: The turmoil in Iran that led to an information blackout in that nation has prompted the BBC to launch a temporary shortwave radio service. Listeners there medium and short wave frequencies have been carrying programs each day starting at 16:30 UTC. The content includes news and analysis relevant to Iran and provides a global perspective. In announcing the service, the BBC said this was part of its tradition of providing crisis broadcasting, adding that its broadcasts will remain on the air until the end of March. Half hour programming is broadcast starting at 1630 UTC on on both 702Khz and 9465Khz. Then repeated starting at 1800 hours UTC on both 702Khz and 5935Khz. This is Graeme Kemp, BK4BB Victory was
Speaker A: never sweeter for a ham in Scotland who has successfully appealed the local planner's rejection of his tower plans. We learned more From Jeremy Boot G4NJH
Speaker D: the foundations dug and the concrete base with anchor bolts installed. The greatest obstacle facing John Grieve GM3RTI's tower project has been the Scottish winter weather, so John needs to proceed slowly with pulleys, wire ropes and other work. But it was only a few months ago that he could not proceed at all. Despite supporting statements from neighbors and the Radio Society of Great Britain, the local Perth and Kinross council rejected John's planning application for the tilt over telescoping structure in the garden behind his home in the village of Ingchur. It was to have had an operating height of 15 meters or 50ft. John told Newsline that he'd had little opportunity to communicate directly with the council beforehand. The rejection stated that the project would quote, have a detrimental impact on the character and environmental quality of the application property and the surrounding area. John, who's also an RSGB Region 2 representative, contacted the RSGB Planning Advisory Committee for an appeal in October. In mid December 2025 he received a 10 year approval. John also gained enthusiastic support on social media. An update on the RSGB's Facebook page reached more than 35,000 supporters in just a few days, according to society spokeswoman Heather Parsons, M7OWS now if only John could see similarly appeal against the Scottish winter weather. Speaker A: the US the state of New Hampshire is poised to approve amateur radio license plates for vehicles registered to ham sell envy. KB3TZD has that story.
Speaker E: Amateur radio operators in New Hampshire are eagerly awaiting the passage of a measure by their state lawmakers to create a new vanity license platform type for motor vehicles that clearly identifies the owner of the vehicle to be an amateur radio operator. A public hearing was held last month on the House bill, which would authorize the creation of vanity license plates and decals that identify amateur radio operators by their Federal Communications Commission call sign. If the owner chooses not to display their call sign, they may use a standard issue plate featuring a lightning bolt set symbol to indicate their status as a licensed amateur radio operator. If lawmakers approved the bill, it would still need the signature of Governor Kelly Ayotte before becoming law. Governor Ayotte has shown support of ham radio proclaiming June of last year Amateur Radio Month in recognition of radio operators important roles in public service and emergency communications. This is Selembi KB3TZD.
Speaker A: People in or near Central Texas who rely on GPS received a warning from the US Military base at Fort Hood that wide ranging GPS tests there might cause interference with their own personal devices. Kevin Trotman, N5 pre picks up the story from here.
Speaker F: Farmers, pilots and smartphone users and anyone else who relies on GPS to get from here to there have been paying close attention to an alert from the US Military base at Fort Hood in Texas. The announcement said that throughout February the region that includes Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and even Oklahoma City could experience interference and disruptions. The final rounds of testing are to be held on Friday the 13th and 14th from 3 to 5am local time and resuming nightly from February 15th through the 22nd. The final testing period is from February 23rd through the 27th. This is Kevin Trotman in 5 pre.
Speaker A: Time for you to identify your station. We are the Amateur Radio newsline heard on bulletin stations around the world, including the W3FDK repeater in Frederick, Maryland and the EchoLink Node N3RO L on Thursday. That same 7pm local time, followed by the weekly Weathernet. Proud to have operating licenses as Advanced class hands, a friendly group meets a few times a week on 20 meters. Others are welcome too, as we hear from Travis Lisk, N3ILS.
Speaker G: The A13 Advanced Class Preservation Society is more than a gathering of friends. It is a circle of amateur radio operators who celebrate their status as the
Speaker A: last holders of a class of license
Speaker G: the Federal Communications Commission stopped granting nearly 26 years ago. The holders of these licenses, which are still renewable indefinitely, created the society in 2020 as a welcoming place. It became the home of a ragtue net that operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday on 14 decimal 213 MHz at 1700 UTC, with Scott Ensley W5HVO as primary net control. Although 445 hams hold numbered certificates of membership in this group, they extend a welcome to any advanced and extra class operators as well as DX hams who would like to check in. The elimination of the Advanced Class license was undertaken as a streamlining move, an action that created A three license system that also removed the entry level novice class. This is Travis Lisk, N3ils.
Speaker A: Some new elements have been introduced into the Radio society of Great Britain's annual construction competition. Jeremy Boot, G4NJH explains what's different as
Speaker D: in previous years, the RSGB's construction competition has six categories which emphasize the hands on building and designing of projects, activities that are rooted deeply in amateur radio. Organisers have introduced a new category this year, Reimagination, which still draws its challenges from radio but produces projects with an appeal to non amateurs such as individuals in the maker community. The society hopes that the these innovative entries will shine even more of a spotlight on what ham radio is all about. This is an international competition. Entries can be from anywhere in the world, but competitors must belong to the RSGB. The deadline for entries is 1st March. For details on how to enter and for a list of the other six categories, visit RSGB.org and search for Construction Competition. This is Jeremy Bucci for NJH in

As anyone who has ever worked a satellite or does so regularly working these birds as they are known, has its reward. A group of researchers in Australia has also been working the birds, a species known as a white backed swallow, using temperature sensing radio transmitters. They've received some great results as we hear From John Williams VK4JJW.
Speaker H: No matter which hemisphere you live in, no doubt this year has already shaped up to be a time of weather extremes. Wherever you are, you have a lot in common with the white backed swallow, a prevalent species here in Australia with the very uncommon ability to survive despite freezing temperatures to blasting heat. We're talking about as much as 50 degrees Celsius, that's 122 degrees Fahrenheit. And we Australians especially can relate to learn how the birds survive, researchers in central Australia's Sturt national park outfitted some of them with tiny transmitters. This was not an avian parks on the air. This was a research project to monitor the birds physiological responses through bio logging, a way to record and transmit their body temperatures changes as the birds slept in their burrows at night. The result a highly successful worked all states of bird physiology. The collected data confirmed the scientists theory that a deep torpor, an essential near shutdown of metabolism, heart rate and breathing was essential for these birds, just as for some other bird species such as the tiny hummingbirds in some regions of the world. The results were recently published in the journal Current Biology. The the scientists called the transmitters key to their findings because data could be gathered in the wild instead of an artificial setting such as a laboratory. Hams of course would not be surprised at radio's reliability. After all, the researchers had created a reverse beak network. This is John Williams, VK4JJW Newsline wishes
