W6GRC TX (147.105 MHz) recordings for 2026-05-12

Looking for something to do tonight? Why not join us for the Monday Night Net at 8 PM on the W6GRC repeater with a PL tone of 110.9.

Speaker A: Home of the original 105, with a PL tone of 110.9, this is the W6GRC repeater. Join us for our weekly net on Monday nights at 8 PM. I guess that's my cue. Good evening, this is AK6JN, Joe, located in Williams, your net control station tonight for the GARS Monday Night Net. This net meets every Monday evening at 20:00 hours local time using either the AF6OA or the W6GRC repeater. We will use the W6GRC machine on odd months of the year, and on the even months of the year, we will be using the AF6OA machine for our nets. This is a directed net. Please make no transmissions unless cleared by net control. When checking in, please give your call, your name, a signal report, and if you have any traffic for the net or if you wish to be included in the talkback segment. Net Control has the following announcements. For the 10-day period from May 12th to May 21st, 2026, Northern California will experience a transition from early week heat to slightly milder conditions before warming up again, with the high temperatures in the Sacramento Valley and Redding area starting in the mid-80s to mid-90s early this week. A delta breeze will bring a brief slight cool down by Wednesday, May 13th, and Thursday, with inland highs dropping into the upper 70s to low 80s, while the coast remains significantly cooler in the 60s. Light isolated showers are possible in the far northern mountains and north of I-80 on Wednesday, but the region will remain generally dry. Temperatures will trend warmer again towards the end of the week, returning to the highs of 80 and low 90s by Friday, May 15th, and continuing through the weekend. Those throughout the period will be mild, generally in the 50s, with some warmer spots touching 60. The weather will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy with very little chance of significant rainfall after Wednesday. Are there any other stations with announcements for the net tonight? Please come now. Bearing none, we will move on to the member check-in portion of the net. Members AF6OA, Ke Nen Ka Pe. This is Alpha Foxtrot Six Oscar Alpha, Ian in Quebec. I'm handheld, uh, Q5. I don't have anything for you. Yeah, I'm going to give you a 3 tonight, Ian, because of the handheld. A lot of bacon frying in the background. I couldn't quite hear, were you going to be on the talkback or no? Copy, in and out. Thank you. AG6VA, Ryan in Willows. AG6VA, Ryan in Willows. Joe, you are Q5 through repeater to me. I couldn't hear a whole lot about what Ian was saying. Same as you. It's nice to hear that the weather is going to be a little nicer. But other than that, I don't have anything for the net, and thanks for doing the net, Joe. Back to you. Hey, you're very welcome. I have you checked in, Ryan. I have you at a Q5 as well. K6GAB, Greg in Chico. Copy. Thank you, Greg, for checking in. I have you at a Q5 as well. KC6UFE, Bill and Kapay.
Speaker B: KC6UFE, Bill and Kapay, uh, good evening. Check me in, you're Q5.
Speaker A: Copy, I have you in Q5 as well.
Speaker C: Do you want me to put you down for the talkback?
Speaker B: Roger, roger.
Speaker A: Copy. Have you in for the talkback and have you checked in? KC6UIS, Bob in Elm Creek. KC6UIS, I cannot even believe what just happened. I'm on two nets at the same time and I just turned your audio back up and there I was on my call. So, man, life is good and I guess I was meant to check in tonight. KC6UIS, thank you for doing the net tonight. Copy, thank you, Bob. I'm going to give you a Q4 into the repeater, a little bit of background hiss but completely readable. Okay, completely readable, but I just turned off power. Just really curious, did the hiss go away? Negative, it sounds about the same to me. Okay, Ruka, thank you for the feedback. Copy, thank you. Have you checked in? KF6OBI, Michael in Willows. Hello, Foxtrot 6 Oscar Bravo India Mike in Willows, and I have you Q5 through the repeater, Joe. Thank you for doing the net tonight. And as far as the announcements go, that was a very nice touch and a great idea. Thank you for that. Actually, I've been doing the net for the Bark Radio Club in Woodland, and they suggest if you don't have any kind of announcements, go ahead and give a weather report. So I figured I'd do that for us as well. That's an awesome idea. We'll have to carry forth with that idea in future nets. KF6OBI, back to net control. Copy. Thank you, Mike. Have you checked in? KG6KUO, Lester in Willows. K6SMN, Phil in Willows.
Speaker C: Kilo India 6 Sierra Mike November, Phil here in Willows. Excuse me, uh, I do have something for the net tonight, so I'll hear you again or talk to you again on the, uh, talkback and the Q5 coming in here.
Speaker A: Copy, you are a Q5 as well to me, uh, so yeah, I put you down for the talkback. Thank you for checking in, KK6FNY, Courtney and Willows. KK6FNY, Courtney and Willows checking in and out tonight. You're Q5. Thanks for doing the net, Kathy. You are Q5 as well, Courtney. Thank you for checking in. Uh, KK6FNY— oh, sorry, I just did you, Courtney.
Speaker B: Sorry.
Speaker A: KM66— yeah, I can't even talk. KM6VFF, Hank in Elk Creek. KN6 WSN Logan and Willows. W6 LND Jeremy in Orland. That concludes the guest— or excuse me, the member check-in. Are there any late or missed member check-ins? Uh, members only, please come now. Hearing none, are there any Guest check-ins. Guests, please come now. I thought I heard somebody key up. Did anybody else hear anything? Guessing not. Okay, so no guest check-ins. So now we're moving on to the talkback section. And who we have there, standby, let me look at my list. Starting off with Bill in Capay. What have you got for us, Bill?
Speaker B: KC6UFE, Bill in Capay. Good evening, everyone. Well, I just been, uh, spending the last week or so putting a big dent in the mowing around here. I got most of the mowing done around the property, around the house. So that's a big chore. It's a lot of, a lot of grass, a couple acres anyway. Anyway, so, but I have to do it with a push mower because the ground's not level. So got that taken care of and, uh, tackling the orchard, uh, mowing the lanes in there. And I've been, uh, having to use an electric mower, riding mower, for those. And let me tell you, Governor's going to get an earful from me. I don't like it. So anyway, not much else going on, just, uh working the bands after the sun goes down. So back to net, KC6UFE.
Speaker A: Copy, thank you, Bill. Next on the list, we've got Phil in Willows. What have you got for us, Phil?
Speaker C: Okay, hi, 6S. I'm in here in Willows. I just want to thank the stations that were able to be available. I think that was on Wednesday when we went to— when KF6OBI and I went to Hamilton City High School. I did a little presentation about the physics of radio and then gave some OTA time to the students. And just sort of a heads up, don't know if this is going to materialize yet or not, but I'll probably try to go again and do an HF approach and let them see how propagation is working on the day that we do that. But that's something that's still under development. I don't have a day or a time, although it would be either a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, roughly around 12:30 till about 1:20, because that's when the class typically takes place. With that, back to net. This is KI6SMN. Thanks again for those stations that tried to connect. Sorry for those that use this repeater, because unfortunately we didn't have good connectivity between Hamilton City and the W6GRC. Back to net. This is KI6SMN.
Speaker A: K6JN for identification. Yes, I enjoyed talking with the students and I look forward to doing it again in the future. So yeah, the HF would be fun. I think that's all we have for the talkback section. Are there any last comments or suggestions or anyone else that wants to Say anything in the talkback section? Hearing none, last call for any late members or guests wishing to check in before the net closes. If there are any, please come now. Hearing none, this concludes the GARS Monday Night Net. Net Control thanks everyone who checked in tonight and invites you all to come back next week. This is Alpha Kilo 6 Juliet November returning the W6GRC repeater to normal service. The GARS Monday Night Net is closed at— what time have we got here— 2014. This is

Speaker A: It's net time.
Speaker B: 118 Altar nodes are connected. Home of the original 105.
Speaker A: Good evening and welcome to the Absolute TechNet. We meet here each Tuesday evening at 7 PM Eastern time, and our net lasts up to 2 hours. All connection information is available on our website at absolutetech.net. The Absolute TechNet covers a broad spectrum of technology. All tech-related topics are open for discussion. If you're excited about something tech-related, bring it on, we want to hear about it. If you have a question about a project you're working on, feel free to ask the net. For those of you who just want to listen and don't have any tech comments or questions, we want to know that you're out there too. And we ask that when you check in, please state your callsign followed by "Check-in only, no tech comments." This will keep the net moving forward and focused on tech. Transmissions should be fairly brief, but if brief is not possible, please use our Absolute Tech Facebook group to take your conversation further. We want to hear everything you have to say, so please remember that there is a 3-minute timer on most of the nodes and repeaters carrying this net. Also, try to leave a gap between the end of the last transmission and the beginning of yours. and please key your radio for a second or two before speaking so we can hear all of your transmission. We use NetLogger for this net, which is a great way to see the list of check-ins and to communicate with others via the AIM window. However, please be aware that we take voice check-ins only on this net. Now let's get started with this edition of the Absolute Tech Net. Please stand by for tonight's net controller.
Speaker B: Well, good afternoon, good evening, uh, maybe even good morning for some of you, everybody, and welcome to the Absolute TechNet on a Tuesday. Well, it's always on a Tuesday anyway, uh, this particular Tuesday, my net, we, uh, we talk about, uh, all things related to amateur astronomy, uh, Linux computing systems, and, uh, of course we always talk about amateur radio because all of us are hams here, or at least thinking about being hams, or at least have some interest in ham radio. So there we are. And, uh, this week we've got, uh, yeah, a little, a smattering of, uh, a lot of that stuff anyway. Oh, let's see. First though, we need to take some check-ins, and I've been experimenting with different ways of doing that. You know, this is a fairly popular net, and, uh, just a Just because, you know, everybody, you know, you get this big pileup, which is kind of funny for you, kind of fun for a couple seconds, but then you're trying to pull off the calls and it's not fun anymore. So last time we did the, uh, the local, uh, net thing, it was awful. So we also thought, well, this time let's do it the DX net way and see if that works any better. So I'm going to do this by, by call district. And, uh, you know, regardless of where you are, uh, if you have that number in your call sign, that's, you know, that's when we want you to come in. So looking for check-ins without any tech comments. This is how we normally start this thing off, just get the, uh, get the people in the room here. So, uh, so far with people who don't have tech comments, but of course if you develop a tech comment during your net, you are absolutely, uh, encouraged to, uh, come and do a recheck because that's what we're here for. So people with no tech comments in the first call district only— if you're in call district number 1, regardless of what country you're in, uh, that would be the second number if you have two numbers in your call. Uh, if you're in call district number 1, please come down. Number 1. Tango Victor India. Oh, the roar of that pileup was almost deafening. Let's see, we have a November 1 Tango Victor India, I believe. Did I get that right? Yes, that's correct. N1TVI. Very cool. All right, K5SSR in and out. Thank you, Roy.

This is, this is November 5 Zulu India Quebec. It's N5ZIQ, Moy, down here in Houston. I'm just going to listen for now and then I'll try to formulate my question. Thank you. And we got Moy, N5ZIQ. All right, uh, well, hey, uh, do we have a— let's go ahead and see if anybody, before I started all my stuff here Does anybody have a tech comment about anything that you just got a burning desire to share? We would like to hear it. So if you have a tech comment to start us off, uh, go ahead and come back now. All right, well, nothing heard. So, uh, that's why we, uh, that's why we prepare a lot of presentation stuff for this net, because, uh, you know, it used to be we all just talked on this. Now we oftentimes check in to listen. I do too. So, you know, I check in this net every week, or at least I try to. And sometimes I even, uh, speak up, but a lot of times I'm just sitting there listening. So, um, first thing up on my list— I always do this, uh, because I kind of fancy myself as doing a semi-astronomy net anyway. So, uh, hey, what's up in the sky this month? Well, yeah, Mercury is super close to the Sun, so, um, We won't try to see that one. In fact, it passes the Sun within, uh, just a day or so, and it will become an evening object, but it'll be a little while before you want to try to see it because it's just too close to the Sun. Venus in the west, about 30 degrees above the horizon after sunset. Um, Mars is bright as Jupiter, which is also in the, uh, the western sky in the evening. And, uh, let's see here, uh, the Moon, waiting for someone to come visit. Nothing special going on with the Moon this month, but, uh, yeah, you know, maybe somebody will come by. And, you know, usually when you come visit, you, you don't just drive by and wave. You actually stop, get out of the car, you know. So next time, next time we'll do that. Bye-bye. All right, Mars. Mars rises just before the Sun. Give it a few months, it will start to come into its own, and it will be early next year when it makes its closest pass to Earth. And by now, by the way, not all Mars oppositions are created equal because Mars is in a slightly more elliptical orbit than ours is, and sometimes we catch it when it's closer to the Sun, sometimes That's what it's a little farther away from the Sun, and it's such a small planet to begin with. So anyway, uh, that, yeah, early 2027 sometime, I forget when, but it's coming anyway. Jupiter is fading into the sunset but still visible in the west after sunset. Uh, Saturn is really close to Mars, and now is not the time to see that one. I thought. But you know, there's some nice stuff coming up in the summer. And, um, our galaxy— I mean, it's such a big object, uh, you know, it surrounds the Earth. It not only takes up the whole sky, it surrounds the Earth. But, um, part of the galaxy is in the southern sky by and during the summertime. So if you, uh, happen to be, uh, insomniac, uh, you know, challenged or something, look up in the south. Uh, actually, uh, not high in the south, close to the south, around 3 AM. And, uh, that
