My oldest daughter came to visit us from New York, and my youngest daughter lives right here. So I made a. They wanted me to do what I used to do when I used to pan fry ribeye steaks and make a whole meal just in one pan. Okay. Fine business. I'm trying to think where you are. You're south to me, south of Red Blow, south of somewhere. You're Willows. No. Yeah. Yes, I'm in. I'm west of Willows. When you come down to willows and take 162 west, I'm four miles out way from the freeway out towards the. There's a trailer park out there and there's Thunderbolt.

Valley, Thunder Hill, whatever that thing is in that area. Yeah. You go past the trailer park and before you get to the canal, where the canal crosses the road, that's where I live. You got a good signal? I'm just mobile here. I'm in my rv, sitting in the driveway just with the mobile antenna on roof level. And you're look at your input. You're doing a good job even on the input. You must have pretty good station there. I had a good spot here. I've been able to reach quite a few places around me. When I was on the Simplex Net, I used to be able to reach almost all the way over to the coast. And then there's a station going up toward Nevada that I used to be able to pick up.

But I can pick up that and then Shasta and down into Sacramento area sometimes. Copy that. Well, my station at Corning, I wasn't the highest place, but I did live up on a knoll and I had a 72 foot tower and I had a. Well, it's still there, but it's halfway down. But anyway, long story short, I had a 4Z4. That's a dual band, 2 meter 440 right on the top. That's probably 80ft or so. I had a pair of stack yaggies there for 2 meter FM and I had 100 watts plus. Then I had 300 watts plus on another 2 meter ramp. And well, boy, I could work. I could work all the way to the Siskiyous before it, you know, before it dropped over into Oregon there. But once it went over the hill down.

Towards Ashland and went away and like you say, over towards the coast and. Well, it really played quite well, you know, I guess over towards the coast. I know I was at the base out towards west of Corning there, out towards past Canada, they got that mountain range there. But I did that on the mobile. I think I did that what they call the knife edge of. I don't know if you've heard of that, but that worked under the right kind of conditions. Well, Lester, listen good here. Yeah. I really appreciate you helping me with Jack here. And I was kind of concerned. I was. I didn't. I was hoping it wasn't the radio. It's an older radio, so, you know, it could have a lot of issues. I think I need to replace the memory backup battery, but it's an old kenwood dual band TM 7 31.

From probably around the mid-80s, but I like it. No menus, simple really. You know, I don't have to read the manual program it and so I, I have some other ones like this to this vintage. I kind of like the older stuff, you know it's. Newer stuff is great. I like that too. But you know. Well listen, I'm gonna let you go and I don't know what you're having for dessert. I am having a. Okay, well, it was sunny there this afternoon and yesterday. I don't know what it's been like down in Roseville, but when I left Jeff's, it come down to the.

The ground, but that's because he's kind of near a body of water. So that probably has something to do with a little bit of a valley. And when I got up out of paradise, it was hit and miss. And then by the time I got to Highway 70, it's been just high, high in the sky. Yep, that's what we've had all day and all day yesterday. Oh, really? Okay. Well, I figured as long as I could get home before it came down to the ground, got two dents, I'd be okay. So far, so good. Last night was just enough to be annoying. I don't think I ever came down too far. At least not here. Just getting kind of old. I have no sun. Yeah, it does have an impact on a person.

Well, while we were in Chico yesterday, shopping around, we went to Hobby Lobby waiting to for Jeff's gal to meet us to go to a restaurant. And, you know, those. I don't know if you've seen them there. You don't go there that often. But they have traffic lights that I always thought about, like, getting one, and I just kind of never did. And they're yellow, though, not green. So I got one. It was only 40 bucks. I think it was on sale or something. So now I have my own traffic light. So, like, me, like one of those ones. I got one for your dad or whatever. Yeah. Before I bought it, I looked on YouTube to see what they look like, you know, and they're actually pretty decent. So I want to have.

Got it. It's a sequential on off like yours. Not as probably sophisticated but good enough for fun. What was the name of it? I don't look up the interrupt, just look up Hobby lobby traffic signal, I think. Oh, that's right. Okay, I saw those. I was there a couple days ago looking for. Hey, I saw those. Yeah, I just didn't know what the flash patterns was like, you know, I thought, well, if it just. If they blink on and off, I didn't really care. But it was kind of like I just was curious to see what it looked like before I bought it. If it was something I didn't like, then I wouldn't buy it. But it's basically just like does what yours does the way Mike set it up for you. It's just that the yellow signal is. No, there's no difference different. I mean it's not that sophisticated. Right. So you'll see.

Signal is not short. It's just as long as the other one. The other two. But it's fun. Oh, I see. Okay. I was actually surprised that they had it set up that. That. Well, I kind of thought they just, you know, blink on and off, you know, sporadically or something, but it actually has a pattern to it. Some guy on YouTube showing up. Yeah. I didn't do too much today. I just did my usual 7 mile walk and went up to Sheila's house for a little while after lunch. Brought her that little glass Christmas tree that I fixed up. Oh, cool. Well, we thought that Jeff's truck had a problem today because he forgot his long story, but let's just say he forgot his regular key and he knew he had a hide a key, so he used that to get into it and then it wouldn't start. Right. So we're making all these plans and thinking about what we're gonna do, and I said, well, you can borrow mine and I'll just drive the Mazda until we get this figured out. Seemed like it was a fuel line filter, right?

Yeah, because it would start. Start to start, or act like it wanted to start, but then it wouldn't kick over. So what? It acted like. So, you know, the two. Two male minds are sitting there, you know, trying to figure all this out. And Shannon, his gal, was like, well, you know, maybe it's the. Maybe it's the chip and the key. And I go, no, I don't think that key has a chip. It's too old for that. And even if it did, it's. What should you. You think the thing would still kick over? I don't think it's that. Anyway, we went on and on and on, and she finally went to YouTube and said no. She said that they say if you don't have the original key, then this. If you have an extra key or spare key, it's only to open the doors with. So we're like, well, we'll give it a try. So he went up there, sure enough, started. Well, if he had the key the whole time, but he just left them at home. That what you said.

He left it at his house. He had gone up. He'd gone to that holiday party yesterday with her, and they stayed at his place last night. And then they went up to her place to get his truck because he left it up there last night. So one of those trans vehicle kinds of situations. And he forgot w normal keys, so he didn't have them. So one of you had to go back to his house and get the key, huh? Yeah. And then when he did, the truck started. Yep. Brenda's Firebird. Well. And her current car does the same thing. It won't. Won't start with that key. Little Toyota out there. It starts with any key.

Well, the thing is, I didn't think that there was a sensor in that key. I just thought it was too small for. For that. Because it's not a very big plastic piece on the end of that key. Not like the newer vehicles have. So I just assumed it was just something to actually help hold the key, you know, as you went to start it or use it. I guess there actually is some kind of a sensor in it. And the Firebird, that sensor unit quit working. They had the key to it, but same thing. Car just wouldn't start. And Michael. Because we gave the car to Michael and Jackie. And Michael went to YouTube and said. You can bypass the whole security system. By opening up the left panel and unplugging one thing. And put two wires together, and voila. Of course, you no longer have a security system, but who cares? Okay.

Anyway. Well, we were feeling pretty dumb by the end of it. Our male egos were bruised, but at least he didn't have to worry about getting a mechanic and having it towed somewhere and all that. That was what we were fretting over. Ever get that dang thing smog? Remember? I thought he was down here. He was having trouble with it. I don't know. I didn't even ask. I don't ask anymore. That away. I think he did, but I don't. I didn't even pay attention to the plate to see if it had the current sticker on it or not. I know he got stopped once a few months ago. They didn't give him a ticket or anything because he had the pending registration. He just had to get a smog. So they let that go. But.

Yeah. I don't know.

Baxter Right there. Is he at the house? No, I have him with me. I wouldn't have been able to stay if I hadn't brought him. That's good. He travels good, right? Yeah. Well, for the most part here I've been recuperating nicely from that bladder stone procedure I had back on 21st November and progress seems to be good and I seem to have been spared the worst case scenario that was portrayed before the procedure. Anyway, things seemed to be going fine there. Played a little bit over the weekend Friday night anyway in the annual ARRL 160 meter CW contest. Made only about 20 contacts, but kind of decided the eyelids were getting a little heavy and. And I figured enough was enough there and anyway.

The Club Oroville Amateur Radio Society will be meeting this coming Friday evening, and I'll be putting out an email to my mailing list on that. And anyway, with that, I'll run it back up the line. If you're looking for any ideas for stocking stuffers, the UV 5R mini is a pretty good option. Just picked a couple of those up as of yesterday, programmed them last night and been running with them ever since. About the size of a GMRS radio. But even the stock rubber duck that I'm using right now, with that it's making the machine with.

I do have one here that essentially when I have occasion to go somewhere with a portable for 2 meters, it's come in pretty handy and the price is right. 5R mini as being fairly clean and pushes over the 5 watts proclaimed amount upwards to a 5 and a half to 6 watts on some some channels, but so far so good. And then you start seeing the sun come up, and that's where they start popping. Well, right now they're talking. It's bombing in from Texas and no color. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's. I'll tell you what Texas is. Those machines are huge. Yeah, they come in quite a bit. Yeah, I'm. I haven't actually heard anybody from Oklahoma, but a Texas station bombed in here. I mean, it was super strong.

Yeah, you know, I know the propagation's right for Oklahoma, but I asked Josh, I said, well, how come I, you know, every once in a while I hear maybe, maybe two or three stations, that's a day come out of Oklahoma. But there's a whole bunch comes from Texas. I asked him out there. Well, he said, there are a lot of people in Oklahoma where he. Down where he is. They only talk, I guess, when they want to, or they don't normally get on to the DXing. So they said. He said, they what? Yeah, I'm trying. I guess it's called DXing, you know, when they, when they're talking out of state, like this guy is here, A lot of those people don't do that. A lot of those.

There's a lot of hams there in Oklahoma, but there's not a lot of people get on the radio and talk outside of Oklahoma. Well, okay. Is that based on what he's hearing? No. I mean, now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying they don't talk out because there's much big stations in Oklahoma and Oklahoma City and Tulsa, stuff like that. Talking about southeastern Oklahoma, you know, he's, he just knows a lot of them. And, and they he likes he likes to do parks on the air. He loves it. I talked to him yesterday. He said he literally loves that. Okay. All right. Well. Interesting. Yeah. And you know, because, like, I noticed when I.

Got that 10 meter up. Oh, I guess I put it up about a month ago or three weeks ago, whenever it was. I'm not being specific on it. But anyway, when I put that 10 meter up and I started talking to people in Texas, Dallas, and just about pretty much everywhere in Texas, you know, I noticed there wasn't very many stations opened up in Oklahoma. And I thought, wow, that's kind of weird. But maybe they, maybe they work. I don't know. Yeah. Huh. Well, I'm trying to see if I can get a better receive signal on that Colombian station. Yeah. Now, I, I.

I think that's where he's from, Mike. I'm not sure. I believe that's what he said. But he's, you know, out of the country, I can tell you that, because there's a lot of people trying to get a hold of him, from what I'm hearing. But he comes in, like I said, about three, and I can't get back to him by little. 400 meters wire. Well, the way, you know, what you're describing really sounds like what they call a pile up. And I'm here in a number of stations trying for him, but nobody's very strong who's trying for him. And he's not real strong to me. But. If I turn it up a little, it does get a little better. I should probably try for him because I don't hear anybody trying for.

Him right now. Yeah, go ahead and try it. Yeah, try for way better. And like I said, he. There was a few times it was kind of dead air. And then there was like two or three came back to him or tried to. I don't know if they made contacts. I know he's made several contacts here the last, I'd say five or ten minutes. Yeah, I hear somebody talking to him right now, or I'm not hearing who's talking to him, but. And he's real weak to me and weak on nstr. I've got on. So I'm trying different ones because the particular one I'm trying points all over the place.

And none of them are south. I know which one I should try. Here. You hear about the big earthquake in Japan? Yeah. Well, was that Japan? Well, I'm sure it was. I thought it was. No, I. I guess I did. I read something on there about Alaska or something had an earthquake. Nope. It's Japan. And I think what they were talking about in Alaska was whether there was going to be a tsunami there, Which I don't. They pretty much called off the tsunami, even for Japan. I don't think it hit Japan, let alone everywhere else.

Yeah, I guess I hadn't heard about it, but. So is it. How big was it? Did it say 7.6? Wow. That's a shaker. Kind of shakes you out of your boots. Yeah, I saw one. Yeah, I saw one picture that showed really heavy duty damage, and I don't know what I just said. I said, I'm saying this a second time. Really heavy duty damage, and I don't know.

I really don't know if it. Was a current picture. You know, I was just looking at stuff and I was on a net while I was doing it. Yeah, well, they said that the whole west coast here has been shaken for the last couple weeks. Not big earthquakes, but, you know, they were getting concerned about it. I hadn't heard that. Who are you getting your information from? Yeah, it was just on the Internet, you know, like when you turn Google on, it comes up, you know, and. Well, it wasn't on tv, it was on Google.

You know how you get the news flashes, you know, a small earthquake in Gilmore, I think it was. And then there was a small earthquake up North Bay area, that kind of thing like that. Every getting concerned about it, of course they are saying, oh, the Andreas followed this movie and all that kind of good stuff, you know, just. I don't know if it's really doing it or not, but that's what they're saying. Well, I'm. I watch earthquakes very closely. Got my phone set up to pick it. Anything over A four in certain locations, namely Los Angeles area, San Francisco area and Humboldt county area, anything over a 4 will text me and.

And then for anything over at 6 worldwide, I get a text and that's how I got the one about Japan. I got it right when it happened. And that's all usgs, It's a service you can set up. Yeah, yeah. Just. It's the same. Same thing as fire and all that kind of good stuff. Yeah. You said you're supposed. You know, I met a guy. Oh, I guess it was about two or three years ago. I had my little two meter antenna on top my pickup there. I was down at the losing hamburger and he asked me, he said, oh, you're a ham operator. You know, that's how we got to talking. And he. What he was doing up here, he sets out the divisor.

Places on Mount Lassen here. And he said you'd be surprised how, how much these mountains shake. Not, not violent, but they do shake. He says you get them like every hour or every two or three shakes an hour, that kind of stuff like that. Well, you said something about when I talked about the USGS and the text messages. I get that it was just like something and what was, what were you comparing it to? Oh, it would be something like all that watch duty that we're hooked into up here, you know, like Cal fires hooked into it. U.S. forestry took into it. So if there's any forest fires or any kind of thing like that, we get alerted on our phone. I mean, I don't, I don't know if it's, if it's the same or not. I'm just saying, you know, we're, we're hooked into fires.

Like you're earthquake. Yeah. I don't know what watch duty does for earthquakes, But I know for a fact that if you're concerned about earthquakes and you set up the USGS system that I've got, that you'll know about it for sure. I have no idea what watch duty does. I know that it's not specifically an earthquake service system like USGS's primarily 100% set up for earthquakes. That's what they do. Now, wait a minute. What I was talking about is forest fires. You know, I want to make that clear, but you know, just it's tied into when the Cal fire or the forestry.

Gets an alert and they alert our phone, whoever's tied into it. I don't have anything on there for earthquakes. Nothing like that. I'm just saying Google had about last week, I think it was about. It was just. That was just in the news. That's the news stuff. It's not go alerts or anything. Yeah. Okay. I wanted to say that regarding the news, if I just search earthquake, having got the announcement on my phone from USGS, I just searched earthquake, and I would say maybe eight or 10 stations, eight or 10 news services came up live from Japan, and they're still on right now.

Now you just search earthquake. And a whole bunch of major, like even CNN is live showing, you know, life from Japan. And they've got helicopters flying around and everything in Japan looking for that tsunami to hit the shore. And I thought I saw some coverage of a rather large wave going over, some breaker wave break kind of thing hitting Japan. But I don't know for sure. I mean, nobody said anything about it. So I don't know if it was just that coverage right from the helicopter that I was watching. Yeah, I imagine 7.6, probably every news place is on top of that right now.

Sure. That's big earthquake. Yep. It's as big as it gets. And that was. I think that what I was talking about there came out of, like, when I got on YouTube. I just typed earthquake into YouTube and I'm doing it again in here. Just to see. Click on Earthquakes Today, see what comes up this time. And, yeah, there's a lot of. A lot of stuff that comes up. I don't know if there's any. Any more lives, because it's been a while. It's been an hour. No, there's still a lot of live.

Stuff. Let's see if any of them are actually live right now. Yep, they're still up in the her, in the earthquake. I mean, in the helicopter. There's one called Crux, and it's got a helicopter on live right now. Yeah, that's, that's it now. I, I, I just watched the fire. So news pretty much real early in the morning. I allowed myself maybe one cycle of news a day anymore because it, it, it's so crazy. That's why I've been watching news. I just stay on the radio or go out.

Outside these parts or whatever. Yeah. One thing I saw was a bunch of ships heading out to sea, because that's what the ships have to do. They can't be in a harbor when an earthquake hits. They got to get out to sea. And one another thing I'm seeing on this crux is a repeat. They're repeating what they already showed, so I wouldn't call that live. Anymore. But, yeah, it started out as a 7.3, and then it the up got upgraded right away to a 7.6. So that was pretty big event. But like I say, I'm I guess if I were to look at anything right now would be what happened in that city that it was in Japan that it was east to. Because east of it was east of a city something like Masama or something like that.

That Japan. And, you know, Japan is a really long country, north and south, so many different islands. All each island is different, a different almost each island is almost like a different country. So, yeah, it's a crazy place. One of the one of the islands is so far south, it's almost considered to be tropical. Wow. Yeah. I imagine. No, I don't know a whole lot about them. Do you still stay in contact with those, I guess your friends or the people that you know that are on sailboats and whatnot, stuff like that around the world? Are they getting affected by it? Well, one guy came on and he said, well, the tsunami warning was.

For Japan only. And, you know, I just didn't have all that information. So he, you know, he did. Come on, say that. And that's pretty important to know about because he was actually on a boat. I think he was calling from the boat saying it was just. It was Japan only, so it was cool to get that. And so, yeah, I guess the answer is, yes, I do. I do have those people every morning if I want, if I can. Every morning. And right now we've got about three or four. We just had one guy come back.

Who isn't currently on a boat, but he's been on a boat almost the whole time we've talked to him. And he went over. He came from, I think it was from Europe over the he went over the passageway that goes above Alaska and Canada. He came over that. That's how he got here. Was going over that passage, you know, the Bering Sea and all that passage, which I was surprised to hear that he could actually do that. But, yeah, that's how he got here and came down the Alaska coast and then down the British Columbia coast. And we started talking to him as he was coming down British Columbia. Co yeah, that bearing seed, that could be pretty tough at times.

Understand. I. I don't know. I've never been on it, but from what I understand, it could be pretty tough sometimes. But. Yeah, we supposed to, I guess next week supposed to be that what they call them at Atmospheric river or whatever and post stuff like 10 inches of rain on the coast of Washington and Oregon. Well, I just, I just Today, just this morning, got a weather warning for the entire west coast that was pretty, pretty serious. I think it might include California. I don't know and I haven't looked into that yet. But yeah, I think there's some stuff coming up here.

Yeah. It's supposed to be. It's supposed to start in, I think, not this next Tuesday. Something that nature. I don't know exact when, but it's going to be sometime next week. And the way, if you look at the radar and the way the low, I believe the lows turned clock, clock clockwise and the highest turn counterclockwise. So the low is between us and the storm. So that means it's going to drag it up, that all that hot air is going to drag it up and bring all that rain right into Washington and Oregon. But when the load gets north of us, North, California, I'm talking about when I say us. Okay. It's going to throw that moisture south. Now, how far south it comes before it grabs it.

Another one takes off east, I don't know, but we probably get some snow, not heavy snow, but we're going to get some because that's going to be north wind. It's going to be a lot cooler than this. Coming up from the south. Well, I'm looking at the 10 day and for right here we get rain next Monday, 0.16 inches. And that's a, that's like, that's a whole week ahead. So that's about far as far ahead. That's almost beyond the accuracy possibility, but. So I expect that to change as it gets closer, but I'm looking at another seven day trying to bring that up right now.

See what it says. And it doesn't show Monday yet. And it. So it doesn't show any, any rain for Monday because it's a seven. It's a seven day. Let's see. Yeah, it's a seven day, but somehow doesn't include Monday. That's interesting. Yeah, I hear you there. But like I said, it's supposed to. Well, it may be Monday. I don't know. It could be. But no, I get, I, I watch aqua weather for just everyday stuff. But I got three apps from Noah that I paid for when I was driving truck, and they all say pretty much the same thing. It's. And if you want that low, that low is going to throw that moisture down and some of that is going to fall out before it takes.

Into jet stream at east. And that's where. Up here. That's where we're going to get our stuff. Yeah. The thing I was talking about earlier was it's a big warning thing saying a big storm was coming, but I wasn't looking at details. And that's why Steve and I both went to this ten day from Weather Underground. And we've had some really accurate stuff from it, considering, you know, it's reaching out. 10 days. I mean, 10 days is a long time ahead. In fact, if you go full 10 days out, it says there's going to be another. It's an interesting storm way out there. 10 days, almost 10 days ahead. And it says Monday, 12:15.

It's supposed to be 0.16. And then Tuesday it changes to partly sunny. And then Wednesday it rain again in the evening PM shower. So it'd be the evening showers, 0.12. So neither one of them is really very big for us so far from the forecast so far. But like I say, when you're reaching out 10 days, that's going to change as it goes along. Yeah, I agree with that. But as of right now, like you say right now, everything it says, we are not going to I mean, what it's saying is California is not going to get impacted in a severe way right now as we speak. But things are subject to change. Hey, mother nation.

Change the wind. And there you go. We may be right in the middle of it. Yeah, I'm gonna try putting. If the computer will cooperate, I'm gonna try. Put. Try to put Portland in. I have family in Seattle, and it's clocked. This computer is not cooperating, so I'm just gonna restart the whole thing. It just starts acting up after a while, and I just. I think I just kind of overloaded. But it's not as powerful as a computer. Even my mini computer is more powerful than this one. Well, I don't know if it's any more powerful.

I think we got three apps on our phones. I'm sure a lot of people have the same thing. I know all the truck drivers app on there, because when we were going up 56, we'd see a snowstorm coming, we'd pull off the side of the road, go through, and then go again. Yeah, well, I'm not talking about when it comes to weather. I'm just saying this computer can get jammed up. And I've been on it all morning, and it's been running 247 for a while now, and I haven't restarted it. So, you know, when I say it gets jammed up, it just gets to the point where it starts to slow down and act weird, and that's what it started to do. So I'm turning it off. I'm going to turn it back on and restart it. And.

And it'll straighten up. But this isn't in relation to the weather at all that I'm talking about. This is in relation to the computer. Yeah, yeah. Here you go. Hey, I mean, here. I mean, you probably already know this. I'm just giving you a tip here. Are you? If you're running Windows or Linux or Apple, anything, go in there and delete your history and empty out your cache. Because what happens is the memory of the. That helps you. Like, you start a word and it fills it in for you. It knows you've been there before. All that kind of good stuff. When that cache gets full, and that's for the CPU and the hard drive, when that gets full, it'll slow your computer down. So, I mean, you have to dump it every once in a while.

Well, one thing you can look at with Windows is just look at, you know, go to the settings and look at the storage and see how you're doing and I'll tell you how you're doing. But it may not tell you too much about what's going on with the ram. And I think that's where it can get jammed up is a ram. Another thing I've noticed, I told Steve about this, this is one of the reasons why he won't use Windows at all, is because Windows, a huge up, up date system that's always running in the background. And my experience is that upgrade system, update system, not upgrade, but update system that runs in the background.

They don't tell you all the time that it's, it's actually working. You know, that they don't tell you that you're actually getting an upgrade. Even when you go to Windows update in, in Windows, it still doesn't tell you you're getting up date and you are getting an update anyway. Sometimes, especially on the weekends, it seems that like to update on the weekend or maybe a couple days early. The early like Monday and Tuesday. So my experience with that is that when it, when it's updating, certain things will start to fail. And that's not the kind of a problem that I was just talking about that that's a different problem has specifically to do with Windows update. Certain little features will begin to fail in all the.

Sudden, it'll say, well, we have an update for you. You update it, and whatever feature that was starts to work again. It's the strangest thing. Yeah. Well, problem number one, let's. Let's do it that way. Is because your computer slows down after it's been all a while. Is if you go into settings there and on your browser. Stop talking Windows. You go in there and you delete all your history, your search history, and you dump your cache. Okay? You can do that automatically, but I don't. I go in there and do it, you know, manually, every so often, and you clean it up that way. That's problem number one. That's where your computer slowing down. Okay. Problem number two, the update. You go at the settings, you.

Turn those updates off, where your computer will never update you to manually turn those things off. And Microsoft ain't got anything to do with your computer. But it's nice to have those on, because like you said, they'll update. I set mine for 3 o' clock in the morning, and it's sitting there. It'll just update. 3 o'. Clock. But I'm late. But I'm at least. Yeah. What I do. I'll tell you why. What I do is I tell it update when you have an update, but just don't restart it until you let me know. And you know. And that way, when I look at it in the morning, if it wants to restart, because it's got an update, and if I can get away with it, I will restart it. But.

What I'm trying to do is make it so that JSA call is always available for people. And I know if it restarts without me knowing in the middle of the night, I lose JSA call. So I won't have it do it unless I know. Unless I know it's. It's going to happen. That way, I can restart JSA call after update. Oh, okay. Yeah, I get what you're saying. You don't want. You don't want your computer shutting down, because that way, everything that your call there is lost. I see what you're saying. Yeah, I just go in there and turn it all off and then do it manually. Every morning before you start, start your day just like you're drinking coffee. But here's. Here's something about might get. I don't know if you want to get into the computer system or not, but here's something.

For you. Write down CC Cleaner. Okay, CC Cleaner. And it's free. But yes, they want you to buy the Primo, but yet they'll give you the CC Cleaner to scan your computer and it'll dump all that stuff for you automatically. And you can go in there and set whatever you want to lose or whatever you want out of there, stuff like that. But I've been using that for years. That's good information. Another good one that I use is this big. It's kind of a comprehensive system, and it's free, although they want you to upgrade, too. They want you to buy the premium system also.

And it's this system that not only does it check your memory and all that stuff, but it also protects you. It's a virus. It's an antivirus system. And it's all free. And I like it. I've always had some kind of a virus system running protect me. And I've used a whole bunch of different ones. Some of them I paid for all kinds of different things. And I settled into this one called Avira because it seemed to do a better job. And I had. I've had no failure since I've had Avira. I've never had a failure of my system where I had Pay systems like McAfee and that other one. And they didn't catch. They didn't catch certain fire.

So they didn't protect me. So I was pretty shocked with that. Yeah, well, I kind of agree with you. I've had Norton ever since they started. Now that's been a long time ago with Norton Antivirus and it was the greatest antivirus back in the 90s, early 90s. They were right down there on in Santa Clara off of Great America Parkway. And I bought, you know, I paid for you get three license. So I put it on all my computers and stuff like that and it really worked great. And then it got where they wanted to basically move me. I'm talking fast forward up to.

Say, like, 2010, 2011, that kind of stuff. That's how long I've had it. And you pay, like, 40, 50 bucks a month, or you buy a yearly subscription. And we. We got rid of it because they wanted to take over your computer and stuff and do all this. Wonderful. Yeah, that's kind of why I went with Avira. Avira. I've had really good luck with it. And like I say, they do try real hard to get you to upgrade. And sometimes the way they do it is just really aggravating. I have to go. I don't know if you're familiar with the thing called control alt, delete. Have you ever heard of that? Control, alt, delete. Yeah.

That's been ever since Windows was. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've used that back in the 80s. Early 80s. Well, I still use it. And sometimes my ENVIRA will put a sales pitch on the computer, and they won't give you any way to get rid of it. You know, they won't give you. Give you any way to blank it out. So I'll go to control, alt, delete, and actually shut down and restart a virus so I can get rid of that sales pitch that's on the screen that's taking up my space, and I can't see anything, and it's gone. And that's the only thing I have to do every so often. And I haven't had to do it in a long time. It's been fine. But Steve won't have anything to do with Windows because.

Of some of the things it does. I admit I have done better with JSA call on non Windows machines. Like, like when I run Linux on, on a Raspberry PI. I've done better with JSA call than on a fairly powerful Windows machine. So, you know, it's only so good and then it kind of fails you. Yeah, I mean, you know, I'm not saying Windows is perfect, but I ain't saying that. Now back in the 80s, we were using 5.0 exhaust and that's when you had to type in the command. Early 80s, when you type in the commands and you say, okay, you want to go to Windows.

You typed in C, I believe was Windows 3.1, 3.0, and then it would come up. Or you could just use DOS, that was your operating system. And if you wanted 5.0, word perfect, you just type in it and then it would come up. No bells, no whistles, no features, no. You had to learn how to run the computer. And that was the cleanest, basically, that was the cleanest system that I've been on. And if you wanted to scan for viruses, you just type in, scan this, scan this, scan that, and you do it. Oh, yeah, I remember those days.

And of course everything, everything's changed and computers have gotten a whole heck of a lot more powerful and so. Yeah. Yeah. Good old days some would think. But anyway, yeah. So really good talking to you and yeah, I was. I would sure jump on. Well yeah. You don't have a way to run can on your 20 meter antenna. That's something to look forward forward to maybe in the future. To be able to run more than one band on the same antenna. That would be a really nice thing for you. Yeah, yeah, that's you. But let me charm in all that.

Few subjects there. Just a few seconds here right now. You know, even Windows 11, Windows 10, all that stuff, they have that sauce system integrated in that pretty much. You go down there where it says, type here the search, and you can type HMAs there. And it'll tell you all kinds of weird stuff about your computer. You don't know about saying that how we got that CC cleaner, if you'd like to try it, just download CC cleaner. And where we got that was I was having problems with the computer. And Cindy went to work. She worked for Biotech there in Palo Alto. And the IT guy, the head of it, he said, tells you I'll just be downloading a PC or CC cleaner and run that. And it will fix everything. It's the antivirus as well.

Like you were saying. And I did. And we have it on her computer and mine, and we have always had good luck with it. But anyway, Mike, I'll let you run. It was nice talking to you. And when we get back from the desert, I will probably have maybe a inverted 80 meter, 40 meters and then I'll have the 20 and 10 wire meter or, you know, for the wires. But I've got a special tuner that.

You can get them now that do the same thing. But I, I don't think they're quite as good as the one I've got. There's one brand called LDG that would do this, and it's once you get the right antenna up with the LDG tuner, you can run all the different bands. You can switch back and forth to different bands and you'll have everything. And that's the most handy way to go is a good auto tuner with an antenna that'll allow you to run all the different bands. And with my, my 160, if I don't have it set up right, it won't let me run all the different bands. So it takes some tweaking to finally get to the point where you can, you can run all the bands on any antenna, but with the right tuner and the right setup on your antenna, you can do it. And boy, once you get to that point.

Point you got it made. Like this morning, I, I went to every, every band and, and send out information and check every band to see how they're doing. That's how I know 10 meters was doing so good is because that's what I did. And yeah, so look into Lima Delta Golf tuners. They're, they're currently, they're the way to go, I believe, for automatic tuner, that's the way to go. All right, talk to you later. All right, talk to you later. Mike KNC and six grg. The reason I, I'm recommending a tuner is if your radio had a tuner in it, which I'm not.

Sure that 891 has a tuner in it, but if it did, none of the rate the tuners that are in radios will tune antennas that are over three to one. Pretty much, that's pretty much a blanket statement that I can make. I think there might be one out there that does. But pretty much three to one is, is about all you can go for where lgg, you know, you can have a eight to one or six to one and it'll, it'll tune it for you. So that gives you a little bit more multiband capability and. Grg. Talk to you later. Yeah, yeah, Mike, the. I got a FC50. It's a 3 to 1 that was made for the, for the radio. It's the radio and the tuner.

But the ldg, I've already researched those and they do go up to 10 to 1 now they. Sir, you know, you're right. You put on any kind of headset on there. But anyway, I ended up getting this FC50. You go on the Internet, check it out. But anyway, we'll talk to you later. Gotta run the KS6 SLA. Is that just a little, tiny, tiny tuner? That might be the one that I've recommended in the past. It is just a little tiny black tuner. Well, it's a. It's a black tuner from Yaesu. They used to have the FC Fit FC40 that the radio sits on top. It fits perfect. Has this bracket for that radio and.

And the plugins, everything like that. And then they come out with this FC50. Now this FC50 I can go inside, which I didn't because I. I'm not opening something that expensive or you know, something that new. This put that way, I'm not opening up it and working on it. But you go in there and like I said, it's a three to one, but on transmit side it's three to one. But you can also flip some dip switches so that the signal that's coming in will be automatic too. But right now at this point goes out. Is that frank charlie fc 50.

Frank charlie 50. Yeah. That's a nice, nice piece of gear. I'm surprised it'll only tune up to a three to one. I'm really surprised. Yeah, well, what they say, that's what they Recommend and is 3 and 1. I'm not sure all my intent. I. I can actually run these 10 meters, this 20 meter and get 1.5. One point. I think the highest version is 1.7. That's on the edge of the 10 meter band. But this brings it down to less. It's like 1 to 1 or 1.7 if you, if you get what I'm trying to say, it's less than that, so it really works pretty good, but.

You know, the ldg, now, it does tend to want. So. Yeah. Yeah. It says it's specifically designed for the FT891. That's interesting. Yeah. I mean, it looks like all one radio. It's bigger than the radial. It's the same size as the radio. So when you put both together, you're going to double the weight, double the size. But it works out pretty good. It talks okay. But. No, when I get back, I'm gonna see if I can get a vertical. Because it was funny. Me and Josh were talking yesterday. I told him, I said, you got to get a jet. At least it's general, if not an extra license. So we get all 80 meters and.

He said he saw his lot. I think it's like 350ft, something like that. I don't know exactly, but it's 300 and something feet of wire. I said, well, yeah, I said, even my acre here, I'll have to run around circles sometimes. Yeah, well, generally speaking, it. You don't run 80 meters to get to Oklahoma from here. There are times when these distance stations will come in, but generally speaking, it's not. Especially in the daytime. You definitely don't do it in the daytime. Oklahoma is really good with 20 and 20 and 10. Even 40 is a little bit far, far out for Oklahoma. 40 meters is too far.

But yeah, 20 and 10, they're good. And not only are they good, they're bombing in right now. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, they are. No, I was just going by all the all those guys down here in Half Moon Bay and off toss Santa Cruz all the. All the way up to Oregon, Utah, if they show up every night at the same time. They ranked you on 80 meters? I don't know. That's pretty cool. I mean. Yeah. Yeah. That's what 80 meters is. I won't say it's designed for. That's where it's good. Is everybody in? You know, Western, Western coast, I should say. Western states, maybe 80 meters is great in the evening especially, you know, there's that that network at 30.

3920. I think that's the frequency for it. I'm probably getting my frequencies wrong. Anyway, there's a net that's on all the time. 3952. I think it is. 3952 on 80 meters. And they'll check people in from all over the place on the western. From the western states. And that's where I got the idea to go with the antenna I've got, because they have especially strong signals. And so I asked him, which antenna you run it? And they said, well, one of them said that has the strongest. Said, I'm running a 160 loop. Okay. So I started looking into what it would take to have a 160 loop. And it does take a little real estate. It's not too bad. And it's a great antenna. Yeah.

Yeah, I'm thinking about now. I'm just thinking. So it's about that. I think it's a comet or it might be diving, I don't know with makeshifts. But Anyway, it's a 23 foot. 23 foot vertical. And then you put radios out. You don't have to, but it's better if you do. And you get 40 and 80. And so I got 20 and 10 right now. So all I have to do is just hook up another collection, come in the house, and I got the ones that I want. I just want 10, 20, 48. Well, now you're talking vertical now. And one thing I can recommend.

That didn't cost a lot of money. Here's the one that I'm putting together right now, because Steve uses it for his POTUS one. Very similar. And it's kind of a collection of parts that you get. You can get a kit that has it all in one. All in one order, you know, all the parts in one order. The basic minimum would be this. This. It's a whip that you. You can take it anywhere because it's. It's the vertical part, you know, the whip part. But it collapses like a. You know, like the old shortwave antennas that they put on top of a radio that go up and down, you know, thing. They're like that. The only thing is that they're.

Over 16, 17ft long. And then you get this one other part that it mounts into. A lot of people get this red one. I got one that was a little different than that, but you get each of these parts, and one of the things you get is this coil. And then I can recommend a couple of other little cheap parts that make it work for some situations. I've got that situation, so I had to use those little parts, too. But all together, you put that together, and then on the ground, you just have these radials, what they call radios, just laying out in the ground, and you poke it into the ground to set it up. You just poke it in the ground so you can go anywhere, and you'll have 40.

40, 20, 15 and 10 meters and maybe a couple of other bands with, with that stuff, and it's not very much money. Yeah, well, this, like I said, this one here, I'll tell you, if you want to take a look at them, I, I got the numbers right down somewhere around here. But have you ever heard of that DX Commander on YouTube? DX Engineering sells them and they're, they're, they're a little bit of, a little bit pricey, but they guarantee the SWR is already set, the stuff white. You still need a tuner. It's not like perfect, but it's 80 and 40 and.

It's 23ft tall. Just the antenna. And you can either run it on the ground or you can elevate it, you know, And I thought, well, that'd be perfect for me. I just stick it in the air. Yeah. Yeah. You know, that's one way to get 80. If you want something, though, that really picks up signals, there's two ways you could go. One is infed half wave. It's just a. A wire. Piece of wire that sticks out. I think it was 100. Do you have 120ft of distance on your property? Oh, yeah, I got an acre. About an acre. You know, I don't know how wide the thing is to put a house on it. You still got 40ft, 30ft on what?

Side, 20, 30ft on the other side. Then you got an acre more going from that. Well, this is the other way that the poltergeist do, because it's so, so quick and easy to set it up. All the poltergeist, like, you know, this is their other antenna that is a favorite. And the thing about it is that it's. It's so quick to set up, and it requires that one chunk of wire, like, 120ft, and this other little box, another little box, and you connect it. One connection to the box and the other connection to the coil, and that's it, you're done. And you hook up the other end of the wire to a tree 120ft away with a piece of rope or something, and you're done. And the reason they like that antenna is it.

Has better transmit and receive than almost any of these other antennas. And there's a really basic reason why it does. It's because it's a full, full length wire. You know, it's a, it's, it's a full sized antenna where all the other antennas like the DX Commander and the antenna that I was recommending, that was inexpensive, that you poke into the ground, they're not full length, especially for 80, for 80 meters. There's just no way to have full length unless you have full length, you know, a wire that's 120ft long. There's the only way you can have a full length antenna for 80 meters. Yeah. So on the MFED, you have what, like 49 to 1, something like that, or 9 to 1. You have this little box that's 49 to 1. And I think you can get them for like $15. I built them and.

I actually purchased one purchase. Purchased the first one just the other day. And I thought, well, I'll give it, you know, give it a try. I mean, it's not that much money. And then, you know, just a chunk of wire for 80 and you're set. And the thing is, not only are you set for 80 with that antenna, you're set for all the bands. You set for 80, 40, 20, 10, all the bank with that one piece of wire. Yeah, well, like I said, if I can get 80 and 40 together, I'll be happy. You know, that's what I'm shooting for. But. But it's going to be a couple months before I get into that. I'll, you know, I'll figure something out and. But anyway, Mike, we gotta run, so we'll talk to you later. Nice talking. I love the info.

Tuner, and I run the little inexpensive tuner in the truck, and it's totally automated, so I don't have to do anything. And that's the other tuner. And we can talk about it later, though, because you got to go. And it's grg. Okay. Yeah. Okay. All right. Talk to them.
