Ko6pgy, kn6wnr, wp6a, x, n receiver, Kn6wnr, ko6bty. I have traffic inbound or a company inbound, so I'll be a little bit. But I heard you out there. Okay. I was just wondering how you're feeling. Yeah, I'm about to be doing the same thing. I'm just driving home and got a visit with family that didn't come for Christmas yesterday. So, yeah, I'm gonna be doing the same. Sounds good. Yeah, I'm still feeling about the same. Not the best, but hopefully it's gone by Monday. Anyway, when company leaves, I'll throw a call out, see if you're still out there. Safe travels, and enjoy your company. Ko6bdui. You do the same. 73kn6wnr, 73k6q1.

Good morning. I heard somebody say monitoring. This is insigniawh in Chico. Yeah, good morning again from Las Vegas down in Chico. How did you survive all the rains you get? I know you guys got hammered initially, but did it finally clear out or get somewhere? There's a lot of water. Not bad. There were a couple of times, I don't know if it was last year or the year before, where all heck was placed, if you know what I mean. I mean, water everywhere. And then I've seen times over in Yuba City, Marysville, there's a trippy trail. I have never seen so much water. I mean, it was like a mile wide. And just coming through there with the force. Yeah, you know, things kind of petered out here. They were making a big to do out of it. At the end of it, we got a little bit of rain, not too bad. Checked a couple of our repeater sites. Got yesterday was with our cameras and there was no snow at all up there. Looks like these. That felt water. But they're predicting a little bit for today, but I don't think very much so we didn't get as much as. I didn't want to get as much as what you guys got. Don't misunderstand that. But we could use something which has been so dry the last couple years. You know, I lived in Kingman when I was a kid. I have a few relatives down there. But water is a real issue. Arizona, California, Nevada, all fighting over the same water. Yeah, we've been in a drought condition here since about 2000. So 25 years. Coming on 26th. Right. Anyway, so. Yeah, and it's. It's all a bunch of. As far as I'm concerned, because they're building like crazy here. I mean, it's not. It's the almighty dollar. Right. But I mean, housing has just gone crazy in this place. It's not stopping. They're building houses all over the bloody place and they're complaining about water. So I don't. I don't know. I don't know who to. Well, Arizona's, you know, trying to get some of that Colorado river water. Mexico. Right. They're down there saying, oh, please pour Pavlova, give us some water. But there isn't any. Well, you know, bottom line, we're never going to run out of water. Right. It's always decalinization. That's how they do it over. That's how they do it in the Middle East. Right. We could certainly do it here. I know it uses a lot of power and I know it's going to be more expensive, but, you know, if people want to build houses in the desert, they're going to have to pay to build it for a long time. I've always said, I don't understand why we don't do it. Sure, there's a reason why. It's political. How about all that flooding and shit to get in the Northwest and they call the code, build a major. Well. How do you feel about building more nuclear power plants? I mean, here in California, they want to drill, you know, oil and build nuclear power, but there's resistance. That was weird. Trying to get a feedback from the receiver. Did that last transmission come through at all? Negative. Weird. Hold on. Make sure I got it coming between. I said, I don't understand why we won't do a national construction project like we did back with the highway system. The oil system is built, a huge pumping infrastructure to take the water from the areas of the US to get flooded a lot like the Northwest and the Gulf states. And pump that water to the top of Colorado, for example. Just go from there. Don't quite understand why we don't do that. I don't know political or environmental or not practical or whatever, but it seems like something that somebody should look at. I always remember the bumper sticker that said, now wait here. I'm still half awake, half asleep. Something about, if you have a problem with something, you can wipe your rear end on a spotted owl. Because they wouldn't allow any logging somewhere Northern California, because of this spotted owl. I remember that vaguely on battery at 13. It would seem to be something that would be practical as far as, you know, environmental impacts and shit like that crap. Just run it next to a couple of the major interstates, you know, kind of like they do with the rail system. Between you guys and us, they're going to build a rail in the center divider or the center section, whatever. All the environmental stuff is where you're going to take care of and address. It just seems like it alleviates some of the flooding problems in most parts of the country when they come up and help fill up the Colorado and help out here in the desert Southwest. But who knows? Where did you grow up? East central Wisconsin. Town called Sheboygan. Just about an hour north of Milwaukee. Right on Lake Michigan, Wisconsin. Hey, I know Sheboygan. And hey, Cole, you want to talk about cold up here around the Great Lakes? Oh, my God. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, they were. The town I lived in was actually called Howard's Grove. Away from Shipwrecker but yeah, there was a school. Was. We lived right across the street from the school. And I walked to school in the morning, it was only a couple blocks. And then across the practice football field in school. And I remember there were times where it was so freaking cold. It was just. I mean, you just knot with trees, right? I mean, there were times where they actually shut down school because it was just too dangerous to walk outside. And a lot of it, the power we had back then was the infrastructure was overhead. So we get the ice storms, right, and we'd knock power out. The days it was something else, man. And then, you know, we get to lake effects and oh, go to Michigan. And that was weird. Like Howard Strove, where I live was maybe 15 miles, maybe away from Lake Michigan. Ish. Get me. So we didn't get the lake effect snows, but if you get right to Sheboygan, within a couple miles of Lake Michigan, I mean, let's say Howard stroll making numbers up, you get a foot of snow, Sheboygan would get like 3ft fish from the lake effect. It was different, man. But yeah, there were. I remember vividly one winter morning, got up to go to school and wasn't listening to radio back then. It was like listening to the radio, see if you hear the Catholic school, right? They didn't have the radio on. Parents didn't either. So I get dressed, take my shower or whatever, and I go to open the garage door. And it was just a wall of snow. I opened the garage door to the white. I went, holy shit. I guess I'm going back to bed. Yeah, you know, I've said this before. You're driving along in snow and worried sick about whether you're gonna make it and the company and the car. Oh, it's so pretty. Look how pretty. Meanwhile, you're having a nervous breakdown. Hey, when you were. When you were in high school, did you have a car and were you like Teen King or no? Yeah, I had a car because I worked, right? So Howard's Grove, like I said, about 15 miles away from Sheboygan. I worked in Sheboygan. So yeah, I had a car. My dad gave me a lonely couple. Whatever. I forgot what the hell. It was old Starfire. Remember the blue, dark blue hatchback, whatever. And that's nothing. It's not a muscle car by any way, shape or form. A little four cylinder thing. But it was practical. My dad lent me enough money to buy it and I paid him back from working. But yeah, I had a car. Probably after I turned maybe 16. A little bit after 16 because my parents only had one vehicle. My dad worked, so then of course I worked. So anyways, yeah, I had one. But as far as going to school goes, I just walked, like I said. Live that far away from the high school? Yeah, that's easy. Walk across the street. Well, in my time, it was like the car kind of could make you or break you. I mean, if you were a real nerd. Okay. But you had some kind of a car that was nice or hot rod or. Yeah, day, go drag. Whatever they did, you know, everybody respected you. Hey, man. Hey, how you doing? You're cool, right? You know it was the car. Yeah, like I said, I was just. It was not a hot rod. I mean, like I said, a little more patrol and practical thing, but it was good. It was all right. I was kind of a nerd anyways. In high school, I played football for a couple. For about a year or so. But I was one of those hit the books kind of guys, so whatever. Hung out with the cool crowd, had a job, played football for a couple years. Kind of kissed myself, but it worked out. Yeah, well, high school is a formative time for sure. I think back and you know, what a difference it made, though, in how people thought of you. I guess it's like if you have a lot of money, people kind of step aside. Yeah, there you go. All right, Pete, I'll let you go. I gotta get my day started here. Get changed. Go, go hit the gym and go out and run some errands later on. So. Looks like a little bit of rain later, but the weather should be good. So anyways, stay dry down there. Hopefully all the crap has passed. I think it's going to be a dry week next week. I'll be around the radio. So. 10, 7:00pm yeah, well, I believe, you know, the ham radio should make you feel good. Kind of have rag chew here and there, you know, talk to people. That's part of it. There's also another side of the coin, but. Talk to you later. On battery at 20. I don't think I made it that time. I couldn't agree more. It's what ham radio is all about. So let's at 17.

Kn6twr, m6trg. Kn6twr, n6grt. Radio, Club Net. I'll be there in a few minutes. Well, I have a feeling something was there, but the audio didn't come out. So let me check to see what's going on. Kn6twr,kn6ngk. I don't think we heard your first line there. I gotta key down a little bit before you speak on link that might have took you out. KN6MGK. Okay. This is kn6kwr. Yeah, looking to schedule with. Lake battery at 13.
N6GRG back. Sorry, I have a little programming problem with this radio. Okay, I'll be with you in a few. N60RG. I'm finishing up on the San Francisco radio class. Okay, roger. Standing by.
Kn 6mgk and 6grg. You copied? Yes I do. I do copy. This is Kilo November 6th Mike Golf Kilo Chico, California on Lake A standing by. Okay, thanks. I was just needing a quick radio check. Trying to manually program this radio N6PRG. Okay, no problem. Roger, roger. You got full quieting on system 36 link. Kilo nov 6 my golf kilo. Qsy to local. Kn6mgk standing by on local. Yeah, I had to reprogram the transmit frequency again but it's in there now. So yeah, we can TWR had a question on the sideband net that and it's hard to get too much through on that one. And he checks out very quickly on the sideband net. So that's why I told him we should meet on Carla. Well, he sounded pretty good other than keying up too quick. And also like an announcement came on during what he was like about system 13 on battery or something while he was talking. So that took him out too. Yeah, I'll let him know that announcements could take him out and that's why I would have to have him repeat and it might take me out also. Anyway, that was what I heard and I wanted to make sure you knew. So I definitely heard him say something about being back after some net. I didn't understand it, but that's what I heard him say on the first one. Then he just reiterated that when he did come back to you. Yeah, so I'm gonna get off of here just in case you does come back a little early. The schedule was for 9:30 so thanks for being there and hope you have a great next couple of days on holiday answers grg. Copy that. And yeah, I'll be around. Might go do a PODA here later. We'll see. Itching to do one more to make my hundredth active so I might do one later. KN6MGK is clear. Go ahead and take it back to good old link so it'll go back by itself. KN6MGK. Yeah, I'm getting a bunch of photo notifications on my phone. NSX grt QSY. Nsx grt on link. Up there is the rain stop. Yes. First sunny day of five predicted days and I was out walking earlier. A little bit longer walk than usual. And I take it you did reach the people balloon reading. They finally got back to me on a text but they apparently did not have any problem with their particular house. But of course you may have seen a video of problems people were having up there. Yeah, I am above it. 300ft. So I did have flooding, but the water doesn't settle and I'm not in it in a valley of any sort. So. But yeah, that was crazy. I listened to it on the radio and they even had a sheriff's boat right in the middle of the road, rescuing. Yeah, it's amazing to think you can have so much water that you can put a boat on the street. Yeah. And it was the southern part of Redding and even beyond that on what we call the 273 and also Highway 5, near an exit called South Bay, which is the most southern of all the exits. So it's the first southern exit that you come to, or could say Churn Creek, depending on your direction. So, yeah, Highway 5, even for it to actually flood, Highway 5, that's the first. What was the maximum rainfall somewhere around there? You know, I haven't checked because I've just been in recovery mode around here. And like I say, this is a very. I mean, it's been raining. It's not just raining. It wasn't just raining on that extremely heavy storm. That was kind of like a narrow lightning bolt between Hayfork, which is to my southwest, and went north. I don't know if it made it to Bernie, but it was a very narrow swath of heavy rains. And like I said, it didn't even flood the northern parts of Redding. It only flooded the southern parts of Redding. So it was pretty narrow. But yeah, I've been in recovery mode trying to, you know, keep everything from flooding and keep the animals fed in. In the storm. During the storm, it's. It's hard to do anything. You're kind of on a little farm or something. Do you have cows and sheep and whatever? I have sheep and chickens and one dog, but I have quite a few sheep. And yeah, they struggle through this, but I have buildings that they could get into and stay dry, so. But they didn't want to, you know, they want to be out grazing even in the rain. So now they'll have five days of a five day break. There were some places in Los Angeles that got more than 11ft of rain. And I was in a storm like that one time in Minnesota. And you know, it just. Streets that normally wouldn't have any water in them at all just filled up like six feet deep. And I had people coming, you know, people came to my door because they were trapped and so on. So I gave some kind of heavy stuff for one. Yeah, it's. It's really amazing how nasty it can get. And I, I've been through it before. We had a snowstorm that was very similar to this. It was very narrow in the same general direction southwest or northeast. And it was three feet of snow which is the most snow that's hit that we've had since the 50s, 1950s. So pretty incredible. When I lived in Minneapolis one time we had a snowstorm that left three feet and there were parts of Minneapolis that didn't get dug out for two weeks. Yeah, my wife was from Massachusetts and she told me about blizzards that would hit in Massachusetts. So that's the sort of thing she remembers. His blizzard. Time in the 50s. I lived in a small town in Minnesota and we had snow up to the ease like snow six feet deep. And a few years ago of course there was snow about 50ft deep in the Chicago area. Yeah, I remember that. That was pretty incredible. So what kind of frequencies do you frequently operate on? Well besides Carla especially system 36 on local is where most of my conversations happen. I'm not on link a lot but I also run JSA call and it should be on it right now but I left for a walk because it was the first sunny time in a while. So I went for a walk. I'm just turning on JSA call right now which I generally keep it between 40 meter JSA call and 20 meter JSA call. The frequency for the 40 meters is 7.078 and it's a band upper sideband 3 KC's up from 7.078 and 40 meters is 14.078 with a 3 KC band frequencies above that above 14.078. I mean things that I work sometimes every week I do the San Francisco Radio club which is 14328 and then some days I try to get into another maritime mobile or Maritime Network on 14.3 that I sometimes can reach. And I talk to people like up in Washington and Oregon. Now other than as far as netsuite and sideband other than the marine net that you you're on that's pretty much the only net other than some 80 meter nets. And the 80 meter net would you would have good coverage. Generally speaking you would have good coverage down there if you have 80 meter capability. And one of them is Sunday morning 3855 and one of them is Monday evening 3955. 3855 is 8am Is the official net and there's a lot of talk before that. And then the Monday 1 here 3955 starts at 6:30 but early check ins start at 6:15 so and and then that that Monday night there's an APRS portion where you can check into KE6SLS. You just send KE6SLS a message and his station automatically responds. And then they also have Fldigi on 3581. After the side bed. Check into the Golden Bear net a little bit. But my particular rig mine kind of doesn't really work very well on 80 meters. So I stopped doing that. Well you know there was operating before sunset and that wasn't working out too well. Yeah 80 is something you have to work at to have because most people have shorter antennas and making a shorter Antenna Work on 80 is requires special techniques. A coil is usually all it takes but so it's not impossible. But yeah a lot of the guys are running 20 meter antennas for podas and then they put a coil in that one so they can have 40 meters. A vertical for 20 meters. But I also can run on 10 meters and I have a 40 meter n fed halfway x 10 disc installation that I also work 20 meters. And you know one time I did reach as far as the east coast. Well there's two coils available online that are typically used for a JPC12 antenna and ally Express has some good prices on them. One has a cap so it will expand your antenna to more bands than just 40. And the other one has here's just only 440 and doesn't have a tap. And they're both designed for vertical. I'll try it again later today and see if I can hear anything. Now Both of these tap 37 for 40 for I mean for JPC 12 which is a vertical that runs about a. It's 5.9 meter. That's 5.9 meter steel piece up above the coil and a about two or three three foot piece below it. So and it's meant to be a really super portable antenna. I think I need to move along and do some other things. I've got some writing work to do and so on. So it's good talking to you. We can check in again some other day. I typically come on I'm always there on tobacco so we can make arrangements at that point. Or you might consider putting in a notice@carla radio.net there's like an email type thing form that you can put on just say you. You feel that possibly there's a problem with System 2's antenna but it which may be true or may not be true but others will test it and figure out whether it's the case. So you were always able to get into two. So okay, great to talk to you and glad you were able to reach your friends in Reading, which was one of the biggest events of the century for Reading. I mean it was just incredible how much damage was done. All right, talk to you later. Check out all the YouTube channel videos. There's a lot of them, not just a couple, but there's probably 20 now. N6TRT. Good talk to you. A lot of crackling on the system, so I suspect I didn't take something. And yeah, I would try to notify somebody about the system too because I tend not reach it if I push out enough power like even 15 watts. Yeah, you were, you were completely clear on system two, I believe at one time. So something may have changed somewhere either your system or the antenna on two. I'm running a homemade dipole antenna installation.
For that, so that may affect something too. So. Okay. 73, 73 n6trt. Qsy to local. System 7, link up.
Wr. Disconnected n6grt. Local 36. No, that was local. Sorry about that. Switching to local. Now it's local n6 grt36.
