You just get off work? I did, I did. Just got in the car, heading home. Been surprisingly a lot of people at the office over the holidays, probably because of some other person. Nobody's got any time off anymore, but it's a lot busier than normal. That's a good thing. No, no, absolutely it is. It is. And the government guys aren't working because they, you know, they weren't impacted by that furlough thing. So they're taking a lot of time off for the holidays, spend time with their families. So we're. We're getting a lot of things done that's been kind of backed up. So. Yeah. And next. Next week, things start back in full force. Travel. I gotta go out of town for a few days and we got some missions planned and things like that going on. So. Yes, it's. It's all good. So I presume I. What are you guys doing for New Year's? But probably the same as me and the wife. We're gonna go get a pizza on the way home and we're gonna find a movie to watch and that'll be about it. Make it quiet. That sounds like the safe thing to do. That's about all we're gonna do. I think the neighbor said something about they're having a little ching ding with their pipe family and stuff and want them to stop by. But I think it might be safer to stay in the house, keep their heads down. Yeah. Especially here in Vegas. It gets kind of crazy New Year's. Although they're talking about the rain here on New Year's Eve, I think, afternoon and then through the evening into New Year's Day, and they're saying it may impact the fireworks show. And they're talking about having a drone show, too. I don't know if you've seen those drone shows on YouTube. It's amazing. It's all obviously computerized and synchronized and stuff. They put out some pretty cool shows, so I'm interested to see what that might be. But that may all be canceled or subdued or whatever based on weather. Oh, I've never seen one of them drone shows, but I've heard talk about it, but I've never actually seen one. I'll bet it's quite something to see. I. I don't know what we're gonna do other than that. We're just gonna stay and maybe watch for OD or something. Yeah, I've never. I've never seen one of those shows up close and personal, so to speak. But you know, if you get a chance, you know, go on YouTube and do a search for it. That's cool. They do a lot around the holidays. Christmas time. Right. And then they'll do it, you know, Thanksgiving. I'm not Thanksgiving, I'm sorry. Fourth of July, New Year's and stuff like that. So anyway, that's about it. What other. Got any cool projects going on? It's kind of cold up here. It's pretty chilly up here today and I. We haven't done. Haven't got any plans to do anything. My wife's been into town. She had a relative, our daughter's relative passed away and they sold his house and they're cleaning it out and I don't. I don't know all the kinds of stuff she's bringing home. I don't know. She went in to help, but I'll have to see when they get home. I'm sorry. Hear that? Fisherfield holidays. All right. Hey, did you ever get those. Those pictures I sent you of the stuff my wife makes? I know I sent them to you, but I don't know if they were too big to go through email or not. Yeah, for sure I got them and my wife. She wants for them and she was wondering if she had a page online or something that she could go to and maybe order one out of. Yeah, no, I reply to that. She doesn't have anything online yet, like an Etsy store, but if she wants it, you know. Yeah, she can ship something up to you. But I thought I. I forgot what the prices were. I thought I put the prices on the email. I said if I didn't, I can look at it again. I didn't notice anything and she didn't say anything, but she was liking them. Angels. All of them. She liked all of them. I don't think she can buy all of them, but she sure like that big angel. She likes the treatments too. Okay, well, I'll. I'll ask the wife when I get home and I'll send you the prices again. Yeah, it's different prices based on the three different sizes, obviously, but thought I attached that. Maybe I didn't, but. Not a lot of things new here. Knock on wood. Everything seems to be surviving up on the mountaintop. We didn't last time I checked the radio sites, there was hardly any snow up there. We got that warm. That storm came through, jumped a bunch of snow. Then things warmed up and another storm came through. And I think it was more rain than snow. But tomorrow. Tomorrow and third Wednesday. Yeah, tomorrow. Thursday. Tomorrow and Thursday. It looks like it's going to be a colder storm. So we may get some more snow in the mountains. So we will see. Storms moving through today. A couple of my friends and I rolled up in what they call Hamlin Valley. That's north of Modena. And there's hardly any snow up there. There's a little bit on the ground patches here and there. And even government taking the Rice Mountain in back of there. Hardly any snow up on them. We need more snow up there. I know. Yeah. Right. Definitely in the Rockies. Right. Which filled up the Colorado, which was up Blake Meads. I was back in the comstop earlier this afternoon and the guys had the camera at Highland Peak turned on and there's looks like maybe four or five inches up there. But there were some guys up there, four by fours, so it's still accessible. Think they can go anywhere around here, Even up on there, but there's just not much snow anywhere. It was a little bit muddy in places, but not too bad. You could still get around good up there. We just need more of it, though. Good deal. All right. That's about all I know. I think been still messing around on HF quite a bit. The higher fans have been really good 10 meters. Had a lot of. Had some really good contacts on 15 meters over the weekend. And 80 for me is really bad right now because all the neighbors got their cheap Chinese Christmas lights up. It just killed me at 75 meters. So I'm pretty. Pretty noisy there. How many radios do you have in your house? Do you get that all on one radio or have you got a bunch of them? I got more freaking radios. I know what to do with especially HT high band radios. I've lost count. But anyways, as far as HF goes, I've only got. I got the. I got the IC 7610 which is 160 to 6 meters and and then I got the IC 7100 which is 160 to 440, so 70 centimeters. It's got Dstar in it. So I, I pretty much use the, the 7100 for FTA so I don't tie up the big radio and I use the 7100 for like just know on 442 meters and then on DSTAR stuff. But two HF radios and I got two HF antennas. I got the off center set inverted B and I got the flag pole vertical. They work okay. I'm really, I'm really hand tied by my CC&R. So I gotta be careful. Yeah, for sure. You know what they say, the one with the most toys wins. Where I'm lacking is the ability to put up a decent antenna. You know, if I had a, if I had my druthers I'd have a step ir. Of course they're out of business now but I'd have like a 4 40-6-meter fir up and then have a wire coming off the tower to take care of 80 and 160. But I don't think I'll ever be able to do that. Because I, because I got the covenants and restrictions in my community. I'm, I'm barely squeaking by with what I have now. I mean they can't complain about the flagpole vertical because they, our associations can't prevent you from the flagpole up. So I can give them the high five on that one, the wire antenna they can complain about. Nobody said anything yet. But yeah, I live in a covenant restricted area so I'm hosed unless I move either to a different part of town or you know, whatever more in a rural area. But I don't see that in the carts. Too bad. I got a friend that lives in one of them where they have a cake old thing and he can't do nothing. He had his truck parked on drive on. Me told him he couldn't do that. I said why did you move to a place like that? He retired Air Force and I guess he likes it. He does everything they tell him to do and he paints everything the color they tell him to paint it and if it's concrete he needs he. I don't know. I can't live like that. I mean, it prevents somebody from being a complete swob, you know, and having like all these dilapidated cars parked on his front lawn with dirt for a lawn, you know, I mean, there's. There's good, bad, but I mean, a lot of it's not really. I mean, it's enforceable to a degree, but we got a couple of bad actors in our area, but all you can do is you can. You can find them. So you find them. You find them, you find them and they, you know, they flip you off and they'll pay. And then yet there's one guy or one or two in the neighborhood that we. That has actually got liens against their property. So. But you're not going to get anything out of it until they sell. Then they got to pay the liens off before they can close escrow. But it's not like you can have Metro come by and put them in handcuffs and take them off anywhere. It's kind of hollow, you know, as far as what they can enforce and can't. Well, it was a frigid one over here today in Calusa W. See, I spent all my time inside, so I didn't really notice, but. Yeah, I can imagine. I mean, it's. It's kind of chilly out here right now. Luckily, I had no frost on the window this morning. The day before that I had. The back window was iced over, but that was it. Yeah, I had that yesterday morning. Ice all around. What fun. So you got the day off tomorrow? Tomorrow? No, I go in tomorrow and then we have beer. Well, lucky me. I get tomorrow and Thursday off and have to go back Friday. It seems like a shame that they didn't say, well, I'll take the rest of the week off. Yeah, they definitely didn't think that one through. I would have much rather had, like I said, take Thursday, Friday off instead of Anyway, but apparently the president made the my birthday federal holiday, so that was. County gave it off. County gave us that off for now they have to give us a floating holiday for next year that expires in June, so. Boy, I'm not talking too well, apparently. Sounds like a stuffed up elephant over here, but. So we'll get another day somewhere down the line for that one. Well, that works. What was that one that you just referred to? I didn't quite catch what you said. You. Your birthday? Yeah, birthdays day after Christmas. And apparently the president made that day, the 26th of December, a federal holiday. I don't know. I haven't looked into it, but we got an email from payroll saying that since we already gave that day off to you, we have to give you another one. But it's a free floating holiday, so through I think the end of fiscal year 25 or whatever, however that works, we have to use that. So technically, I could actually take Friday off. You know what? I think I might do that. But I didn't give breath notice, so I'm not gonna do that. Yeah, I guess it was, you know, negotiations a long time ago. What do we get? So we always get two days for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. Hey, that's pretty good. Yeah, I'm not 100 sure what ours is. I'll have to look at the calendar sometime. I got to print out that payroll schedule for next year, so that way I'm already up and up and don't forget to take a day off when the holidays show up. You don't want to miss out on that. Yeah, I don't know where it came from. The last round of negotiations, we ended up with a third. We got two floating holidays per year. This time we get three. Now we get three floating holidays per year, so that's pretty cool. Oh, most definitely. Hey, are you going to try to use up some of your PTO time and all that and vacation and sick, or are you gonna just let them pay you out for it? I want money. No, I want. I don't want to be paid out for it. I'd much rather do that. I can survive working the next, you know, three months. It's not going to hurt me to work three more months. So. Yeah, I'd rather have the cash. Oh, cash is king. Cash is king. So if you don't mind me asking, are you, when you retire, is that going to be 20, 20 years with the county or is that going to be more? I'll just barely more. I'll have 21. Okay. Yeah, I'm still young enough. When I got in the county, I just hit six years this year. So I think if I can get 15 to 20 in and call it good after that, I think I'll be in good shape. Well, there you go. There you go. Well, let me tell you, I had the entire week off last week. I took vacation last week and just enjoyed sitting at home. And when I went back to work on Monday, I thought to myself, I'm not going to miss this at all. Yeah, I heard you talking about that the other day to some runner and I'm like, yeah, I don't think he would either. Yeah, it's always, it's always tough going back to work after being off for a week. Whether you got one more day until you retire or 10 years. But it's always just awkward. Especially this, this last week of the year. It's just kind of weird because most places aren't open and some places won't do this, but some people are still working and it's just kind of like a, like a Twilight Zone, almost like people are just like skirting through and whatnot. Yes, well, I'm gonna do what I have to do. I'm not gonna put forth in it amount of extra effort, but you know. Yeah, but I'll work out the rest of it. Oh, yeah, it'll work out. You've definitely done your time, so there's definitely no, no reason to overdo it on the Last. Last lap there, per se. But, boy, the fog's starting to roll in over here in Calusa. I'm out on the end of town and still in town, but it's starting to creep in. It's getting kind of hard to see the cemetery just two blocks away. So we won't be hanging out over there tonight. I'm not sure where that is. Is that over by the fairgrounds? There is a cemetery over that way. No, this one's. If you're coming in from Yuba City to Columb, you take country club and it's right behind them. And it's literally. I could throw a rock at it if I wanted to. Can't guarantee the rock will get there, but it'll be in that general direction. But like I said, I mean, on a clear day, I can see the tenor bass on the Sutter butte. So that's. That's pretty cool. And the other thing is that the Paradise Amateur Radio Club is going to be doing a yagi build this Saturday. The goal is to build a tape measure yagi that can be used for direction finding and other things like that. The president is Jay Johnston and he's asked the people RSVP with him if you'd like to go. They put up quite a few new notes and the Share Search and Rescue team has also been putting up notes. They've got one up in Forest Ranch and I think they've done another one downtown. So if people are interested in that or they've been playing with that, maybe get it back out and try it again. You may be able to see some things that weren't there a month ago. So it's been kind of idle for me. But in the last couple weeks, I bought a new antenna and then everybody else is coming online. So now I'm able to see other nodes and they're seeing me. So it seems like we're getting some ignition here. The basic idea is to be able to have text conversation back and forth or use it for remote telemetry, that sort of thing. Thanks. That sounds. And first of the year, new laws again. And the one that I noticed might have the most impact is the speed limit in the school zone is dropping from 25 to 2020. So be advised there, go slow. I didn't see anything about 35 miles an hour unless children are present. So it may just be 20, regardless. And the other thing is when you're going down the highway and you got to slow down or move over, they've expanded that out to include just about everybody that works for the state. So keep an eye on that as well. I got pulled over one time, told the cop I had no idea about it. It had just come into play at the time up in Oregon. And he let me go and said, pay attention. He was up here for Christmas and stayed for a few days. And over the weekend we made an effort to participate in the Stu Perry 160 meter contest. We tried something new. We tried elevated radials. Instead of radials on the ground, we have an inverted L antenna that we use for 160. It mostly just kind of works people in the western part of the country, but sometimes we get a little further east and sometimes we get Hawaii. But we thought with elevated radials maybe we would have better luck. So we put up a couple elevated radials and, and thought we'd invest some more time. We were going to take turns and operate and if things were good, we were going to go all night, conceivably. And things started out for the first four hours we did okay. I think we made 33 contacts in those first four hours. But then Saturday evening things really slowed down for Saturday night I would say. And I think we only made eight in the next four hours. And so we decided to get some sleep and then set the alarm for like 3:30 in the morning and see how it went after that. But unfortunately it wasn't. It was actually worse by then. And we only made eight in the last four hours. That was from about 3am to 7am so not too productive. And I spent some time reading the news and other things while I was trying to operate. But it was fun and a learning experience. So maybe we'll try something else next time around. Okay, well, that's about it for me. He said, oh, by the way, you know when you go through the gate into the compound, I go, yeah. He said, well, the corner pole of the four pole structure that holds the antenna snapped and came crashing down. So, yeah, we had a bit of a hit with that wind. And then there's a power pull down between our site and. And the next side over, which includes the county and AT and T. So they're running on generator, but for some reason we got by, we still got power. So anyway, there you go. And no damage to the roof or anything else, so we're in good shape for now. So just. There you go. Yeah, it just never ends, right. So I didn't quite understand what's the first part of it? What exactly came down or failed or went over. Well, one of the power poles between our site and the next one is up the hill, which, you know, is the county and PRW and AT and T cells. The county and AT and t's running generator. And then the pole of the four pole structure, the southwest pole, the one closest to the gate, enter the compound. Well, it snapped. I haven't seen any pictures yet, but Byron Said he'd send one, so. So I see that you're coming on that but you notice that you know the signal from a school that he in some areas but it generally is working fine. Yeah, as I see the hobby mixture, the lowest power output but head to head, I'll take that old. Yes indeed. I think with the antenna and its location there that even on reduced power it's working real well. Like I said, there's a couple areas where the signal gets a little bit weak that it didn't use to but overall it's working very well on the reduced power.

Yeah, you know, I'm. I'm trying to get a handle on this sky warn stuff, so I'm still doing some testing on the Carla admin hub there and doing some testing here locally with my stuff. Yeah, looks like you guys are already having some rain. And the Bay Area is having some coastal flood advisories and dense fog. Anyway. Yeah, I have seen those drone. Not in person, but I've seen plenty of them. I've seen some videos of the Japan version of some of those. Extremely amazing. And a lot of that stuff is making it to the states here. A lot of that technology and sophistication of those drone shows is making it to some of these places. I would imagine that Las Vegas may be the first to get some of the best. Yeah, yeah, we'll see. Yeah, we're not. We're not getting any rain. I'm looking at the mountaintops and the mountains are socked in, so there might be some snow up there. I know. I looked at the weather radar, I don't know, a half hour or so ago. And it showed rain right over my office, actually. Red cells, yellow cells. I'm sorry, I look out the window, there's nothing coming down. So they just never hit the ground. But I'm sure we'll get some. But yeah, I. Some of those drone things like Christmas time and stuff like that. Pretty spectacular. Yeah. You know, and on that skywarn stuff, I was, I was messing. I've got these clear notes and I was messing with skywarn on that and I had it working a while ago and I did some configuration changes and crap and I can't get that to work for the life of me. I mean, I got the. I got the right zip code in there. I got everything else. I got all the alerts turned on, I got the scheduler set, but it will not block out anything. Even like last week when we had all those storms, we had wear storm warnings out for Clark county and things like that. They were never again paid anything. So not sure what I'm doing. Well, if you want, I will send you a complete copy of my alert script or not alert script, but the config YAML file, I'll send you a copy of that. Yeah, it is extremely sensitive and touchy if you have anything wrong or incorrect. Yeah, it will not announce anything very strange. But I'll send you a copy of my yamo file, take a look at it. And you may see some things on mine that do not coincide with yours. Anyways, I do have your counties in there. So right now, as far as the global alert, the only thing that's alerting is the earthquake tsunami stuff and then for you, the flashblood stuff. So was that in on Christmas? Because I think Christmas Eve, Christmas Day is when we had all those flash flood warnings out. I never heard anything come through the system. Was that enabled back then? Yeah, the only thing that I saw were flash flood advisories and warnings and. But no, I never saw any flash flood stuff in your counties. Did you have any flash flood stuff in your counties? Yeah, yeah, I got an alert on one of my phone apps that said flash flood watcher warning. I forgot which one it was for Clark county at Nye County. And then I remember getting on the National Weather Service side and I confirmed yes, definitely there. And I was hearing alerts come through the system and I was listening for the counties and I never heard, I don't know, weird. Well, that's the funny thing about skywarn is you can block alerts and advisories. So the only thing that you'll hear from skywarn from the Carlin stuff is actual events. If there's an actual flash flood, it'll. It'll put it on the. On the system. But advisories, Advisories. No, it won't. It will not put advisories because that's, that's just a, you know, hey, there. There may be or could be a flashback coming where the warnings is, the alerts. That, you know, that's. That's an actual flash flood. Okay, well, maybe. Maybe we just had a watch there, not a warning. Anyway. Anyways, next time we have any kind of a quote unquote warning events, I'll pay more attention to. Yeah. If you see anything that's not, you know, that's not coming out over the year, let me know, you know, because this is all still just a learning curve and I think I've got it figured out.
