K0qg, m7khj. Rick, how you doing? It's K0QG. I got it right this time. Amazing. Yeah, I heard you come in on scan and I'm out here northwest and was on photo seeing them on a portable. Long story short, had to switch to Angels. Took a minute to call you back. So how you been? Oh, Ben, excellent. I do try to conduct tests, but two handhelds side by side. Even at low power, one drowns out the other. So listening back to see if there was a quality difference between the two met with negative results. So I have to figure out some way to test to see if there's a difference between the two radios. Even though they're made by the same manufacturer. Yeah, the old A B test. Yeah, I learned that I was doing that on DMR one time as I was driving. I'm like, I know I have, like, why can't I hear it? I realized I was desensing the other radios. So what you can do is separate them by probably a room or the length the of room and just crank the volume up on the other one. You'll definitely hear it. How about if I take the lazy man's way out so I don't get feedback and disturb myself? I don't think there would be a delay. But you hear this one and I'll go ahead and pick up the other one and see if you can tell if there's a discernible difference between the two. Okay. Now, I do have a little like path fading. It's very slight, so be advised of that. I would make sure and test them from the same exact location utilizing the same posture. All right, if that was you, I had terrier, no audio. There was, you know, the DMR that it defaulted CS7000 M17. And I'm going to go to CS750. All right, copy that. So that sounded fine. This would be the CS750. If there's a total difference, can you tell the difference between the two? This is the old grandfather of the CS7000. Yeah. So that one right there sounds fine. And if you were on the other one prior to that, that sounded good too. At one point there was a section with no audio. I wonder what that was. But okay. Well, thanks. Como check. And much appreciated. I don't spend much time on analog any longer, but we'll check in for the net. Got one tonight, Wednesday. But other than that, all is well. Thank you for checking in. Okay. Sounded pretty much the same and they Both sound good. WB6JKV Mobile Hill, San Jose. I had another gentleman in there that I heard him say that both radios through and mobile were quite the same. Much appreciated as well. I thank you for that. Probably not a good ear simply because pouring down rain and a lot of background noise in the car and here's what it sounds like. Yeah, Flyro sitting at home in my easy chair. That would be a better check, but sounds good. All right, back to sloshing WB6JKV mobile fan Hosey. Thank you so much for the accomplishment. Jack. Have yourself an awesome afternoon and stepping straight to you from K0QT.

Speaker A: 6dzb, kn6wnr.
Speaker B: Well, there's a voice I haven't heard very much of lately.
Speaker A: What's up? I'm mostly on hf. I sometimes come on the repeater on like five times, but I've been super busy with work. I generally can't check into the net because. Because on like Mondays at around that time frame, I'm actually working. So that's probably why you haven't heard from me. How you been, Chris?
Speaker B: Oh, I've been pretty good. I'm. I'm counting down until retirement, actually. That's how I'm doing
Speaker A: now. You were talking about it a while back. I haven't been able to go to club meetings or even go to the Christmas party because I was working that time frame. It's been really rough. I still gotta put in my club dues and all that still. Yeah, I've been active in radio, just not on vhf.
Speaker B: That's okay. You know, you got your schedule, you can. You do what you can do.
Speaker A: And, you know, I'm glad to hear
Speaker B: that you're doing an hf. I don't get an awful lot of opportunity to do that myself, so, you know, that's, that's cool.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: So looking forward to the. The end of March is when. When my resignation takes effect and. And then I don't know, maybe I can do more HF myself.
Speaker A: It's awesome that you're finally retiring and all that, you know, it gives you some more free time. That's awesome. You know, I'm working over at Target. I don't think I ever told you that. And I work nights most of the time. Very rarely do I open. So my HF time is pretty much like daytime operation or night. On my days off, I generally not on VHF at all anymore. Sometimes I'll throw my callsign out on the repeater when I'm mobile like I am right now. But I'm just really not on 2 meters anymore. I might get on to 6 meters at some point, like doing 6 meter single sideband or maybe even getting into 2 meter single sideband. But I've been mostly just an HF operator. I love it. Morse code and single sideband on HF is what I do.
Speaker B: Oh, so you, you got into Morris, did you? I was. I wanted to do that and I took a class on it. And then I never had the time to sit there and practice it so that, you know, I just never gained the skill. I'd have to go start all over again.
Speaker A: You occasionally hear me throw a CQ call on 40 meters on CW. I mean, just scan up and down the band when you retire or if you get on H op before then and just look for my, you know, my CQ call. If you want to practice CW with me, you're more than welcome to. I mean, I'll go super slow for you. KN6W and R Freddie.
Speaker B: So my next thing, actually, I think once I retire and I have some extra time, I'm going to try and knock out the ext.
Speaker C: Been at it for almost 70 years and it's terrific. Glad to hear you're in it, Chris. Good evening to you too, ki6hk.
Speaker B: And a good evening to you too, Chuck. Nice to hear you out there. Yeah, I was saying that once, once I do retire, I think I might actually try chasing the extra and get
Speaker A: that out of the way. Yeah, I was supposed to get it on Saturday, but guess what I did again, you overslept. Yes, I did. I don't know why that keeps on happening. I was planning on taking it. I just don't. I missed my alarm. I missed two alarms. Actually, I was super tired from the night you. When I closed that, I slept through two alarms and I ended up waking up towards like noon.
Speaker B: Well, you know, I know how that is. I'll wake up at 6:30 on a Saturday morning and look and say I don't have to go to work and then go back to sleep and the next thing I know it's 9:30.
Speaker A: Either something came up, I had work, or I overslept. And that's been like that for like two years. I've been trying to get extra. Oh no, but I really want it. I've been studying for it for forever. I mean, to the point where the test bank changed and Yeah, I mean, I need to get it. I need to do something about it because I want to work the lower parts of the HF band where all the DX is.
Speaker B: Yes, yes. Well, what you need to do is give the testing team, give Paul your phone number and tell them that if you don't show up at the next test session to call you.
Speaker A: Yes, that's the only way it's gonna work. So in March, I, I am going to get my extra one way or another. But promise. I keep on saying that. I've been saying it like right before every test date, like, oh, I'm gonna get it. I'm gonna get it. And I never do. I'm like. But I've been studying for it for like two years. Oh, well, I'm not perfect.
Speaker B: I don't know. This is. Well, alright. I just pulled into the driveway. I'm gonna go check the mail and get inside. I've got net control for this month so I got to get ready for that. So nice to hear you out there and hope to hear you again. So. And Chuck, nice to hear you out there too and hopefully I'll get to talk to both of you fairly soon. 73 KK6ZD clear.
Speaker A: Have a great rest of your night. Check me in super early because I'm not going to be able to get into the net and yeah, Chuck, if you're still out there, I got a few more minutes. KN6WNR.
Speaker C: Yeah, they all went away.
Speaker A: Pete, you're there.
Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. Hey. IWh. How you doing man? Hey. Oh, I'm okay.
Speaker B: How are you?
Speaker A: Well, I'm currently driving to work in whatever kind of weather we should call this. Just extremely wet. Yuba City's practically half flooded, it seems like. I could imagine Chico is probably not much better. How is it over there? WP6AX.
Speaker C: It's wet. I have heard of some flooding. You know, I was kind of wishing the GMRS guys would get on and start announcing, you know, the flooding. There's a machine in Orville where they report, you know, fire, whatever, you know, the damage, all like that. But I haven't heard them lately, so. Got to tell you though, one time I was going across Bridge street and I've never seen so much water in my entire life other than the ocean. This massive, huge river just pouring down out of the mountains. Oh my God.
Speaker A: And yeah, at that point it's just. Don't even, don't even go near that. Just stay away from it. Just stay home. Yeah. KN6W hour Friday, back to you beach.
Speaker C: And other than that, I'm building a model. I know, I know I'm a kid, but I make dioramas. Usually World War II, you know, half track and a little scene makes me happy. But I'm working on a CB750 from 1985. The model stick. Whoopee.
Speaker A: That sounds like fun.
Speaker B: That's cool.
Speaker A: Yeah. Well, I've finally gotten to my place of work, but I don't start work for another half of an hour. So you still have me for a little while.
Speaker C: Hey, you know, one time I had an injury on the job, but it was not during my work hour. I came in early, I was, you know, helping out, being a nice guy. And whatever got hurt, they wouldn't pay.
Speaker A: Yeah, typically what happens. Yeah, wow, it's only 5:31. I start work at 6.
Speaker C: Well, what do you do about dinner? Do you eat first or are you going to eat later tonight or how does that work?
Speaker A: I eat before and after. Would they give you a dinner break tonight? My shift is so short, I actually don't get a lunch break. It's just a 15 minute break. So I'm going to eat something small, my 15 too. So there's that. And I'm going to be outside this almost this entire time too. So I would say about half of my ship's going to be in this rain and then the other half will be inside the building. But I'll know when I get in there what it's going to be like. Yeah, so it's wet out. Not looking forward to being out in it. I got to do what I got to do the shelves only like a 10 until I find something else better.
Speaker C: But we'll see. Hey, I knew a guy, he was the nighttime janitor at Diablo Valley College. He actually got kind of a degree, you know, four year degree graduate. He didn't leave that job. He said no way since great, it's good moving, good money
Speaker B: and then he
Speaker C: has times he can finish up early and he sits around and you know, reads books and doodle, doodle around. He was happy.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's just I feel that and I understand what you're saying. I just, me personally, I feel that I want to get out of retail just in general, period. I mean, as far as it can be sometimes. And as many people that I've came to know from working this job, you know, just regular customers, you know, people that I work with, I mean, yeah, there's plus sides to it. It's just exhausting. It's not only exhausting and also I just want something that pays more to the point where I can actually move out of my parents house because I had to move back in. I was doing sales for a while and I ended up getting laid off from that sales job unfortunately. And I was almost getting to the point where I saved up enough and I was making enough every month that I could actually move out of my parents house. It's kind of hard, especially as a single guy such as myself to actually be able to afford the rent in the area with a single source of income. But I was making enough with that income. I could actually do it, albeit it wouldn't be as, you know, I could live on my own, but it wouldn't, you know, I wouldn't have like a, like an enormous amount of money left over every month. But I. It was sustainable. I was. I was able to do that. But right before I was actually gonna move out, you know, I ended up getting laid off. And that was kind of hard for me to mentally get over that. It was kind of depressing. So I was actually unemployed for a little bit. I was working at Buffalo Wild Wings for a little bit. Then I got the job at Target, and I was working two jobs. Then I left the Buffalo Wild Wings, currently still working at Target. And I'm actively looking for a second job, if not a better job overall, that I can do one job full time. So that's basically my life in a nutshell right now.
Speaker C: Doing great. You know, I always wanted a job that I loved and wanted to go to work and just felt good about. Never happened, really. I've always kind of had to trade some kind of pain for money. Either agony of lifting boxes or the agony of putting up with people. Hello, baby Holt.
Speaker A: Yeah, and honestly, I could pretty much say the same to some degree. I mean, it's like it was a mixed bag when I was working at Sam's club. I mean, I met a lot of people and I became friends with a lot more people, and it really opened my eyes. And, you know, I got that job when I was in my really early twenties. So I actually kind of needed that because it helped me with my own personal development. But it was just exhausting work. So a mixed bag. I mean, I'm not going to say anything bad about it. It's just. There's that. And then I left Sam and I did sales for a little over a year. And that taught me a lot. It taught me a lot. Given about human nature, even more than I already knew. Just going door to door selling Internet. I mean, I saw a lot of
Speaker C: different
Speaker A: personality types that I didn't really encounter as much out in public. You know, just working retail because you're basically knocking everybody's door, end up inadvertently meeting everybody in town at some point. That was interesting. I was actually pretty good at it. And I'm scratching my head as to why they weighed me off, but the department as a whole really wasn't doing very good. So even though I was, like, still bringing in the most sales, that's the whole thing, so make it make sense. And then dealing with the depression that comes from being laid off from a job that I felt I was giving maximum effort. I was giving maximum effort, and it was really kind of hurting my mental health in a way. So it was A good job. But it was also really not great on my mental health and it made it worse after I left. Well, was laid off and then working this retail job. So basically all in all, my 2025 is just like. Probably should have emphasized more of my mental health than anything else. And I of neglected it a bit for money. Looking at it overall,
Speaker C: Have you ever thought about opening your own business or starting a business? And I can't tell you what, if I do, I'd be rich. Also
Speaker A: had one that was a while back when I was working at Sam's club. I also opened up a photography business. I went to this, you know, I got the licensing and all that and I let that expire and I was very unsuccessful with it, to be honest. And I know why. And something that I learned from doing sales, I also basically learned how to market myself in doing so had I had that knowledge that I gained from doing a sales job when I was doing photography, I probably would have been a lot better off with it. I just didn't know what I was doing. So that was a mistake I made. And will I ever reopen that again? Maybe. There's always a chance, especially this year, it's a new year, I might open it back up. But then I realized I look at the market, photography and it's probably the worst it's ever been ever because of AI and because everybody thinking they're a photographer because they have a phone in their hand as a camera. Everybody's got cameras. The only way that I could probably make money in this overly saturated photography market because there's a lot of dedicated
Speaker B: photographers in the ether area is if
Speaker A: I did black and white, 35 millimeter or medium format film that I developed myself because people, there's a niche group of people that actually still kind of dig that. Problem is with that is the people that dig that are doing it themselves. I don't know. I guess I'm just gonna have to abandon the whole photography idea as a business and just keep it as a hobby. W E6A X N repeater well, how
Speaker C: about if your work is so good you're beyond everybody else, people look at your stuff and go, oh my God, God, is that good or what?
Speaker A: That's the other issue. I mean my photography is okay. I'm better at macro photography and landscape photography than I am with people simply because of the fact that I haven't done portrait photography as much as I probably should have prior to starting the business. I've done it a bit. I had some clientele but I really had no business at all, actually starting that business with as much experience I had beforehand. I was just trying to do something. What I should have probably done is gained some sales and marketing experience and probably was a photographer's assistant.

Speaker A: First, looking back at it and KN6WNR IV back to you, please.
Speaker B: Hey.
Speaker A: Well, you're learning.
Speaker B: That's a good sign. You know, it kind of sounds like you beat yourself up a little bit here with these, you know, things that don't work out and all of a sudden you're a bad person. You know, I do that with my guitar playing. You know, my dad was a music teacher and I feel guilty if I don't practice at least an hour. And you look at really good guitar players and you go, oh, shit. You know, But I love guitar. Love the sound. Makes me happy.
Speaker A: I've been basically beating myself up for about three decades. So, yeah, you are not wrong on that.
Speaker B: It's just.
Speaker A: I'm just trying to find a way in my life and I haven't really been. And I'm not gonna blame anybody else. I haven't found what I would quote, unquote call my purpose, my calling yet with regards to a career, when I probably should have at this point. I did go to Yuba College. I got my degree in computer science. I probably should have got my bachelor's in that. But when I got my associates, I saw the writing on the wall. I saw this whole AI takeover actually going to actually take place because my pattern recognition was like perfect at that moment in time. And also because of the jobs were just being flooded because of COVID because I got my free back. I'm class of 2019. That's basically when Covid happened. I was applying for jobs back then, but they were just not there. So I just took a pause on it because I knew what was coming. I saw it five years ago, pretty much advanced that what we are seeing today was going to eventually happen way before pretty much anybody saw it coming. Because, I mean, I was very familiar with AI. I mean, I can even make my own AI. I know. I know how to. You know, I'm pretty good at Python and bunch of different other programming languages. I mean, I. I learned about neural networks and stuff like that. I was in college and stuff. I. My gut was telling me that they're going to come up with an LLM chatgpt at some point and that thing's going to become so advanced that it's going to literally take away programming jobs. I saw that coming. I knew it was going to happen. I didn't talk about it. I just had strongest punch that that was going to happen because.
Speaker B: Because
Speaker A: every single corporation is going to look at that, they're going to be like, wow, that's one Way to minimize expenditure and maximize profit and minimize the amount of time it takes to develop a product. Sounds like a good idea. I saw that happening, and that's what we're seeing. And I don't see it going away anytime soon. So what I need to do is not be a victim about it. I need to actually look for a better career path, something that I am passionate about, that I can see myself doing as a career.
Speaker B: Now you're talking. You know, I was really. I always wanted a job. Get up in the morning, ladies meet the day man. I'm gonna go out there, you know, take care of business. But usually it was, oh, my God,
Speaker A: I understand. And I mean, it's hard for my whole generation right now. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the number of people I've talked about to talk to this week that are in the same boat. I mean, even people in my grad class that I still talk to, Beth and O's at, you know, for college, a lot of them are struggling.
Speaker C: There's been a few that have actually
Speaker A: made it all the way to getting a tech job out in, like, Sacramento, Fulton, what have you, but not very many, to be honest. A lot of them didn't do anything with their degree and are just doing odd jobs and stuff. Not in their career path. It happens. I don't know what to say. Anything. I mean, I don't know. I don't know how to actually go about fixing that. I mean, I've been looking at that for years, like, okay, what am I going to do? And they're in the same boat.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, plus, the economy is not making things any easier, you know, if you want to try to do something you love and make money. But usually the ones who are outstanding in their field are the ones where people go to kids. Wow. And it takes practice. I'm thinking of guitar players mostly because I play. I mean, been at it for years, and. And, you know, I turn it on, crank it up, and I'm depressed. Oh, God, look at Stevie Ray Vaughan and, you know, all these guys playing blues licks. And then. Look what you're doing, Pete. I'm going. Okay, well, I guess I'll keep practicing until, you know, I either die or break the guitar.
Speaker A: At least you're finding joy in practicing, too. That's what matters. At the end of the day, it's not so much about you versus them. You know, are you happy what you're doing? I could confidently say where I am at right now and what I am Doing right now, I am not happy. I'm not happy at all. Good evening, WD60. Hey Dave. Vt 6xm kn6wnr.
Speaker B: Well, I get happy. I write songs. She's ugly but she Loves Me. That's my favorite. But I'm just writing one called Everybody Tells Me how to Live. That's a rib. You know,
Speaker C: Everybody Tells Me how to
Speaker B: Live and I actually record this stuff. I think my voice is terrible, but you don't know what other people see. But I'm having a good time.
Speaker C: No, sorry about that.
Speaker B: I walked out in the.
Speaker C: Had something else come up on me.
Speaker A: Good evening, guys.
Speaker C: WD6AXM.
Speaker B: Yeah, hi, David.
Speaker A: Hey, I haven't talked to you in a while. How you been? Everything going good?
Speaker C: Well, still managing to stay above water and tried the water out here, but yeah, pretty good so far and slowed down a little bit.
Speaker A: Oh, is it like flooding over there? It was kind of flooding down my street too, actually. There's like, the street's like half flooded.
Speaker C: The ground's pretty well saturated and there's some spots that are puddling pooling here. It's been raining all day.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm just out in the Target parking lot right now and it's coming down pretty hard right at the moment right where I'm at. It's actually somewhat flooding over here right now. We six A X N repeater.
Speaker C: They got a four car accident out there on Highway 20 at Farmland near Meridian. Let's see. Yeah, I got 10 minutes before the net goes, but anyway, so yeah, we're staying and out of trouble here, at least trying to. How about you, Paul?
Speaker A: Oh, that's not good. But I would imagine because of the limited visibility from heavy rainfall hitting wind chills, that that can happen. Very unfortunate. Hopefully everybody's okay over there. Yeah, I could definitely see that happening. Coming down really hard right now over here. KN6WNR. Freddy.
Speaker C: Okay, I better drop off here. It's got other things here. All right, you guys have A Good evening. WD6AX input.

Speaker A: K6kds.w6pnh.
Speaker B: Yes, this is K6 KDS, Carla.
Speaker A: All right, well, that sounds good to me. So I think your system's working just great.
Speaker B: Thank you for mike check. This is K6KBS, clear and standing by for the meeting.
Speaker A: You might want to try that again. Either somebody was doubling with you or you were real staticky there.
Speaker C: Good evening, WD6AXM. They've got a little bit of power line arcing going on up there on the site.
Speaker A: Oh, okay. Yeah. So are we okay for the net tonight or at least for trying?
Speaker C: Yeah, it seems to be intermittent coming and going, but so, you know, some of the HTs and stuff may have a little trouble getting in from time to time, but should be able to go ahead and do the net.
Speaker A: All right, well, that sounds good. Thanks, Dave. Appreciate the. The help.
Speaker C: No problem. Good evening, Carl.
Speaker B: Thanks, Dave. 73 to you.
Speaker C: Yes, Dave, thank you. You're welcome. WT6AXM, how you doing this evening, Paul?
Speaker A: Oh, come back. I missed that last part, but I heard.
Speaker C: Paul, just. How you doing?
Speaker A: Doing well. Yeah, things are going good. Just keeping busy for sure.
Speaker C: Yeah, we're trying to. Slowly but surely cleaning out the workbench and stuff.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, yeah, it takes me. When I try and work on my workbench or anything in the garage, it seems like it's awfully slow going.
Speaker C: Yeah, I got all the Christmas decorations packed up and put away, so that opened up some of the floor space, but other than that, not a whole lot exciting going on.
Speaker A: Yeah, I've been dreaming up on that little Doppler antenna. When I. When I get that back within reach, I was thinking about just making a stand where I could put it up, you know, maybe either remotely or any place I wanted to set up and try it out. So that's one idea that's kind of been on my mind, and I still just have to. I'm looking for a little bit of good weather to get on that.
Speaker B: Yeah, okay.
Speaker C: Yeah, there's some flexibility in there.
Speaker A: Yeah, I also. Yeah, I kind of recognize the value of having that thing running all the time, too. So I'll have fun playing with that and get it settled somewhere. But I do appreciate that even though it's taken a while to get anything going with it, anybody that has anything before than that, I'll let them get that going. But good talking to you, and I'll be clear for now. W6T and H.
Speaker C: Very good, sir. Well, I'm sorry it only took a couple of three years for me to get it to get the thing up and going the first time. But I was working with the guy that was built that was producing the stuff, so kind of helping him with developing some of the softwares and some of the other things. All right, so I guess pretty close to that time or something here, but alrighty, have a good evening. Who else was there? WD6AXM besides Carla. Alpha, Kilo 6, Juliet November. Juliet November. Good evening. Good evening. This is Paul. I'll let you know that. Yeah, you're coming in very, very clear. Carla does still have a little bit of bacon frying, but I hear you just fine. And Dave. Yeah. You've got a little bit of background noise as well. Yeah, I'm on hd so it's not uncommon for it when it gets. They've got. Probably got a wet pole or something. Wet or bad insulator or something. We'll see how it goes during the net. And may have to end up notifying PG&E or the site folks if it continues. Copy. Well, it's not completely unreadable.
Speaker A: It's just a little bit. A little bit of noise.
Speaker C: Yeah. Well, it must be pretty significant if it's taking me because I'm sitting down here in Sutter. But like say I'm on HT inside the house too.
Speaker A: Yeah. I'll give a little feedback here if I'm not doubling. Go ahead. Yeah, yeah, Dave, I, you know, I hear just a very slight flight noise. With you I probably wouldn't even notice it. But with Carla I was hearing a little bit more. And so we'll check that out. Have her use a different system tonight and we'll check it out because it just seemed blank. I don't know if there's loose mic cord or something, but a lot of noise after she got going. Right. At first I thought it was clear and then just quite a bit.
Speaker C: Like to me and which is like say it's nothing uncommon up there on the hill like that. W E6A X N repeater.
Speaker A: Well, good. Hopefully. W6bnh.
Speaker C: Yeah, well. And sometimes that hardware works its way loose or something gets, you know, the have something that breaks. So I will keep an ear on it as the net goes. WD6AXM clear.
Speaker D: KB9MYF.
Speaker C: 89 myf wd6axm. As well tonight.
Speaker D: How about now?
Speaker C: Yeah, it improved a little bit. You must have increased power, but it's still not quite over completely. You're not full quieting over it at the moment. Normally you are
Speaker D: a little bit more power. I'm probably getting over it now.
Speaker C: Yeah, like I say, you can still hear it. It's more improved than there, but you can still hear it. So this might get interesting.
Speaker D: Yeah, my Antenna is about 10ft off the ground, but I'm running 75 watts.

2026-01-06 02:43:16 UTC 45.9s · W6PAR-P Rx (146.070 MHz)

Speaker A: Hey. Just trying to get through. I'm getting a ton of interference. I don't know if you're going to hear this or not. Mostly, I just wanted to say thanks for inviting me up to the antenna build. I had a really good time, and I appreciated everybody's hospitality. Yeah, this is the Magalia repeater. I got even worse results out of the Paradise One, and I tried Echolink for a second, but that didn't seem to work either, so I guess I'm just not having a good day.
Speaker B: Yeah, maybe I could get some kind of yagi going.

2026-01-06 02:44:30 UTC 8.3s · W6PAR-P Rx (146.070 MHz)

Okay, well, maybe something's working somewhere. Anyway, I don't really have a lot to contribute, but I just wanted to say thanks for a nice day.

2026-01-06 02:45:31 UTC 25.7s · W6PAR-P Rx (146.070 MHz)

So I'm basically on 99, a couple miles north of the Chico City limit. I think the problem is just terrain. I did it, put it into a terrain mapper, and I really didn't get good visibility to paradise or Chico. I can see or should be able to see the forest ranch repeater, But I'm gonna probably need to do more in terms of some kind of tower or something if I want to hit you guys.

Speaker A: One of the things that kept me busy as an employee of the company. It was one of my specialties, going out and finding it. Yeah.
Speaker B: And when I lived in Oregon I went out and found a bad insulator and it was tough to get the power company
Speaker A: to fix it. I've had some pretty good success with them, had a good relationship with them. Most of the time they
Speaker C: don't. This bad hardware so they usually cooperate pretty well. Yeah, once they.
Speaker B: Order, they fix it or just turn the power off,
Speaker A: they responded and they fixed it the next day. Well, like I say, they're usually pretty good. Between the Chico and the Vacaville group, the PG&E guys that I worked with, they've been really good. So. Alrighty, I'm going to drop out of here for a bit. Have a good evening. Thanks for the call. WD6AXM. Yeah, that wasn't PG, that was back in the
Speaker D: 80s. But that was in Oregon. Myrtle Point, Oregon. I guess. Talk to you later. I guess that's going to be pretty soon, so. Catch you later. KB9MYF.
Speaker C: K6jjd. K6jjd.
Speaker A: I believe it was wd6axm.

Hey, Lou, how you doing up there? Thought of a static. I'm sure it's my antenna. Had some trouble getting this thing working. Freedom right now. I'm not going to complain. It's like 53 here. Although it feels colder. And we didn't get any rain down here today. It's a little bit disappointing. Then it went away. Just a lot of chores done. So back to you. Everybody's really long right now. Way for the last, I don't know, three weeks. At some point it's going to change the other way. Back to you, Sa. That sounds good. Getting your full power up there. I got my little Midland HD in the mail and got a program. I haven't heard anything other than the Weather Channel. But hopefully when we meet up next week, we can chat on that. Those little radios. Back to you, K6 ship. Over. That sounds good. I don't know on this end. On the receive, I got a lot of like popping noise, like almost like popcorn. How's my receive up there in Reno? I'm hooked up to my little elk yaging tent out here. I probably just move it around and find a little sweet spot to get up on that mountaintop to hit the repeater up there. I don't think I'm ideal, but it was pretty cold outside. So he's kind of moving around, just eyeballing it. Real quickly, We'll talk and about our plans for what can happen soon. Next week. Talk to you later. 86, SA2 clear.

Speaker B: Oh, I need somebody to that's installed a ball mount before to help me
Speaker A: with the project because.
Speaker B: And also I don't have the tools to do the job. So I was wondering if somebody might be able to to help me out with that sometime in not too distant future.
Speaker A: Hey, Jeff is looking for some information and possibly assistance installing a ball mount for his antennas or an antenna or other, you know, multiples. Jeff, can you give us a contact somewhere we can contact you for that?
Speaker B: Well, I have a phone number and that would be the radio shoot. 7752132401 and yeah, what I need is actual assistance in installing a ball mount because I've never done it before and I don't really have the tools for that. But I don't know anybody any place I can take it to do the job either.
Speaker A: So.
Speaker B: Okay, thanks Kirk EB9 my f.
Speaker A: So Jeff would appreciate any actual assistance, somebody that might have experience and have tools to be able to install a ball mount on his vehicle. If you can help him out, please contact him at 775-213-2401 at 775-213-24010 jeff kd9myf all right, thank you. Is anybody else out there need assistance from handheld k06aub? I got his number. Speaker A: Cq Garth. Cq Garth. Cq GarTH. Good evening. This is Kilo Charlie Six. Uniform NES there, and I'm located in Elk Creek. And I'll be your net control station for the Gars Monday night net tonight. This net meets every Monday evening at 2000 hours local time using the 105 repeater. Tonight, Gary's repeater, they're up there on. Oh, gosh, I forgot what mountain it was on. If net is a directed net, please make no transmissions unless cleared by Net Control. When checking in, please give your call name and signal report. And if you have any traffic for the net or which should be included in the Talk Fact segment. Net Control has no announcements tonight. Are there any announcements coming out? Nothing heard. Membership and regular check in roll call is as follows. Ae6z, Christian, Chico, Af 60a, ian in cape
Speaker B: alpha, foxtrot 6, oscar, alpha,
Speaker A: q5.
Speaker B: And I'll be listening.
Speaker A: Thank you, ian. You are q4 tonight. Just a little bit of static on your signal. Nothing bad. Alpha, Golf 6, Victor, Alpha, Ryan and Willows.
Speaker C: Alpha, Golf 6, Victor, Alpha,. Ryan and Willows.
Speaker A: You are Q5 through the repeater to
Speaker C: me and I have no traffic for the net.
Speaker A: All right, Ryan, beautiful Q5 tonight, as always. You always have a great signal. Thanks for checking in. Alpha, Kilo 6, Juliet, November, Joe in Williams. This is AK6JN, Joe in Williams, California. You are Q5 into the repeater to me. I have nothing for the net. Thank you for doing the net. All right, Joe. And you also are Q5. As usual, always a beautiful Q5 signal. Thank you. Kc6fp, pat in chico. I got that wrong. Kilo 6, charlie, foxtrot, papa, fat and chico? Nothing heard. How about kilo six, gulf, alpha, bravo, gray, gico? Okay, Greg, thanks for the check in. You are Q4 in tonight. A little bit weak. I guess I could have turned my volume up, but I didn't get to it in time. But I got it. I got a good copy on you. Kc6ufe, bill capay,
Speaker B: c6ufe, bill cape. Good evening. Check me in. Put me on the list.
Speaker A: Okay, bill, thank you. You're on the. Ae6p, Papa Mike, tango, Russ and Gerber. A kilo, foxtrot, six, oscar, bravo, india, mike and willows.
Speaker C: Good evening, Bob and Annette. This is Kivo, Foxtrot, Trot 6, Oscar, Bravo, Indian, Mike and Willows. Where we have got a lot of rain today since midnight, 1.58 inches. And for the month so far this month, 3.28 inches. Yeah, we've Got quite a bit of rain coming down today. I have nothing further for the traffic. And Bob, would you check your email? I said out the new net roster on Saturday.
Speaker A: I was going to talk to you about that. I did get that and I got a new printer because my printer died and I got a black and white printer because I didn't want to spend all that money for color because it doesn't really matter to me. And when I tried to print out what you sent me, it refused to print it because you put color in the document, which I thought was really crazy and I didn't see any way to get around it. So I was going to ask you, do you know any way to get around that issue?
Speaker C: Well, that is confusing. Yes, there is some highlighting in that document it should have printed out. So the only highlighting was red letters. I believe I would have to double check that, but I'll do that and I'll send you a black and white copy.
Speaker A: Okay, well, that sounds good. Yeah, it did mention the color and it said we can print this document because of the color conflict. So send me a black and white. And after that happened to me, I decided that I was going to dive into repairing my color printer because you can't find anybody that will repair printers. That's why I just bought a new black and white because I didn't think the color was important. But turns out that it is important. So real good and thank you for sending me that and that will help me out a lot.
Speaker C: Roger that. Yeah, it should have printed whatever color was there in gray or black anyway. But I'll. I'll Double check everything. KF6OBI back to net control.
Speaker A: All right, very good. Glad I got that one straightened out a little bit. And oh yeah, I wanted to comment Mike's comment about the rain up here in Elk Creek. I am at 17.6 inches for the rainy season and rain is coming fast and furious. All of our ponds up here on the west side are filling up. So it's good. I'm always excited when they get full the rainy season. This season has been great. We haven't had too much rain, haven't had too little rain. It's been really good for us up here and probably most of you down in the valley. All right, let's continue on. How about Kilo Golf 6 kilo uniform, Oscar, Lester and Willows.
Speaker D: This is Kilo Golf 6 kilo union, Oscar, Lester and Willows. And it's coming of interesting that just difference between in town and you there. We got 2.39 inches of rain since 3 o' clock this morning. I don't have a lot else to say, so I'll be in and out, but listening.
Speaker A: Yeah, Lester, that doesn't surprise me. I think what happens is as the rain clouds come in from the Pacific, the Mendocino Mountains kind of grabs onto them and holds them a bit, slows them down, and so they kind of linger a little bit more over the western slopes of the Menocinos than when they finally break free and go across the valley. So, yeah, I think that's what's going on there. All right, real good. Let's move on here. How About Kilo, India, 6, Sierra, Mike, November, Phil in Willows?
Speaker B: Kilo, India 6 here, Mike November, Phil here and Willows, Q5 coming into the radio here and have nothing for. For the evening, but I will be listening back to net. This is Ki6as. I mean, thanks for the work, Bob.
Speaker A: All right, Phil, real good. I'll give you. I'm going to give you a Q4 tonight. Your audio is very, very loud, but because it's so loud, it's a little bit. Just a little bit garbled, but I can understand everything you're saying. Just want to give you that feedback.
Speaker B: I was probably too close to the mic. Is this any better?
Speaker A: Yeah, a little bit better for sure. All right, let's go on. Kilo, Kilo 6, Foxhoten, November, Yankee, Courtney and Willows. Kilo, kilo six, November, foxtrot, November, Yankee, Courtney and Willow. Sorry, you're Q5 checking in and out tonight. Oh, Cardi, I know your pain. I've done that a few times myself. Speaker C: W6LND.
Speaker E: Jeremy in Orland. Good evening, Bob and The rest of net I'm just going to do an in and out. But add to rainfall total southeast Orland Plaza district at the farm. We've had 1.3 inches in the period since midnight.
Speaker A: It's kind of interesting. Definitely the closer you get out to the valley from the mountain seen the rainfall definitely seems to have falls off, which I think is really pretty normal and how it should be.
Speaker E: Yeah, it varies from where my parents live, West Orland out there, that's for sure. All right, thanks for doing the net, Bob.
Speaker C: W6LND.
Speaker A: Okay, Jeremy, well, thank you for straightening me out on my half hour early roll call and I still laugh about that. But I appreciate you getting in there and listening early. So very good. Thanks, Jeremy. 73. Okay, last but not least, whiskey bravo one G. Smitty in rock. Okay, that completes the regular roll call as I have it. Let's go back through the list. I only got one talk back and that is kc6ufe, bill and capay.
Speaker B: Go bill, kc6ufe, Bill and Capay. Well, since we're running on a short list Tonight, I'll just say 73s to everybody and catch you all next week. KC6UFE. Back to that.
Speaker A: Hey, Bill, you got it wrong. Shortlist tonight means you had opened the window. All right, well, they're real good. Let's see. Are there any late or missed members check ins Members only. Please come now. Nothing heard. Are there any gas stations wishing to check into the guards Monday Night Net? Please come now. Nothing heard. Speaker A: No, no announcements.
Speaker B: Okay, copy that, 73, and thanks for doing the net. Have a good night's sleep. We'll do.
Speaker A: Yeah, your signal much better right now. It's still a little bit on the overdriven side, but just, just a touch, nothing bad.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm trying to hold the mic a little bit further away first transmission tonight. It was right up next to my mouth. So 73 from KI6. That's the man. I'm clear.
Speaker A: We're going to get you a little device that you wear on your. Your head that keeps you from getting that mic too close. Yeah, thanks a lot. Yeah, well, listen, I told you I would stop by and give you a check the next time I was in town. With all this rain. I haven't been to town, so I haven't forgot you. I just haven't been there.
Speaker B: Yeah, no problem with that. But best you stay home when the weather is like this, so it'll work out whenever it works out. That sounds good.
Speaker A: Okay. Real good. Well, thanks, Phil. And 73 to you in Casey. Six UIs clear.

Speaker A: K6lnk system 36 snow mountain range.
Speaker B: Good morning, Ralph. How you doing? See you on your way. Work or a meeting or something?
Speaker A: Ken, good morning. Yeah, I'm just at the house. Early morning meeting on the air force base with some dudes. Half an hour, I guess. But they got their duty stuff out. They claim they're undermanned so they have only one of the dangers during rush hour, which is crazy. So whatever. So I'm off doing that couple of things I got to wrap up today. I'm gonna be out of town for a few days. What are you up to?
Speaker B: I was just sitting here thinking about what I'm gonna make for breakfast. Then we're gonna head out, do some shopping. We keep getting bursts of heavy rain. Wife doesn't like to leave the house when it's raining. But I don't care. I don't care if it's raining or not. So anyways, we have to do some shopping, go up on the hill. I call it up on the hill. Up on the hill to grab a couple of more hanging plants because he wants to get small plants. So we may have ourselves a busy day and a good lunch out somewhere.
Speaker A: Good deal. Like a productive relaxing day. I could eat a couple of. The relaxing part, Harry is just Absolutely, absolutely. You know what insane are on here anymore than I am. Anyways. Yeah. You know, I was. I need to send you some wav files one of these days. I've been tracking. We talked about it a while ago. It seems like some of the. Some of the links have really, really continued. I'll get out another one. Sound really good. I don't know if that's all star related with cards I'd be put in and the emphasis or something or just all the links and the way things are all connected.
Speaker B: Yeah, it could be some adjustments that we'll have to do.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: So yeah, send me. Send me some of that. Did your IP address change on your scanner? I tried the scanner the other day and looked like maybe the IP address may have changed.
Speaker A: No, the IP address didn't change. The dumbass and Russ has messed something up. I know what I did wrong. I got to get in there. Six. I'll do that. So maybe I'll do that tonight. But I don't. That was 100% self induced by yours truly.
Speaker B: Okay. It's always nice to have somebody to blame something on. But in your case, it doesn't sound like you do. All right. Yeah. If you need more gate guards there, just grab a holster and throw a Rifle over your shoulder and volunteer your services for a couple of hours a day should you have time. Right.
Speaker A: Well, what kills me is it's just a matter of not being efficient. I'll leave it at that. But they've got people hanging around doing nothing, you see, all the time. Even when they have that one gay man, they have like one person actually checking IG's with his trusty M16 or whatever they carry these days and doing whatever. And you have four guys in the shack just shooting the shit on their cell phone. So I'm like, what the, you know, where's the adult leadership at? But whatever. You throw stones from outside the door, right? Anyways. But it just causes a huge pile up, especially during the busy time for the day.
Speaker B: Yeah, there you go.
Speaker A: Our
Speaker B: facility, or our complex or whatever you want to call it, administration contacted us the other day. They're putting together these little RF tags that just stick to your windshield. And they have a, they have a real thin LED thing in there. So when you pull in the gate and the RF reader reads it, that little LED in there turns on and turns green and lets the security know visually that your vehicle and you're allowed to be in. And then it's tamper proof. So if you go to remove it at all, it tears and no longer works. But yeah, pretty, pretty cool. They do have a camera that reads the license plate so the license plates can be pulled off. Anyways, these things, these security, security here, they're very thorough and they drive their motorcycles around here all night long with bright flashlights in there. They do a really good job. Very impressed. The winner needs to be it. We don't need the kind of security that they offer, but now they, they, they still give it to us.
Speaker A: Oh, that's great. Yeah, that is good. I remember W70QF. Matt used to live here in Phoenix. Now he lives in the community where they had that type of stuff too. That was nice. But yeah, you're depending on what's going on. And so you know, if you have like anywhere near tinted windows, you need to roll all your windows down so you can look at the back seat, make sure there's nobody back there or whatever. It's kind of ridiculous, but every now and again they'll pull people over and have them get out, do whatever. You then check and pop open the trunk, do whatever on it. But all depends on what's going on right now. It's kind of tame, but anyways, what else?
Speaker B: That's about it.
Speaker A: I still trying to figure out that whole pass TTMS through a node deal. I talked to a few people and found out, you know, you can do it via macros, you know, execute from the server going out, but that doesn't really give me the flexibility I need. So all the All Star documentation I've seen said it should work, but it doesn't. So I'm not sure what's going on in vlog. If you ever break that code, let me know.
Speaker B: Yeah, still trying. I spent most of the day trying to get this DTMS stuff to work on from the skywarn alert script. I gave up. I just turned off alert script and gave up on it. So that that other hub, that other Carla hub does the guy warnings yet. That'll just be connected all the time. I've got too much. Too much time and seeing the failure, so I just got to give up on it. Yeah, if we ever get that code cracked, we'll certainly let you know. I don't.
Speaker A: All of that stuff is kind of
Speaker B: beyond my, you know, beyond my page. All I know about is All Star, so why it's not passing through All Star. I don't think it's on the All Star side. I think it's on the receiver side. But kudos. Tom and his guys, they certainly know more about that than I do. And if we as a whole will figure it out, we'll let you know. All right, I'll let you go. I'm sure you're probably getting close. Close.
Speaker A: And
Speaker B: I'm going to get up, go make some breakfast so we can get out of here early. Talk to you later. And 6p head out to Columbia.
Speaker A: Okay, Dan, good to shout. Good to talk to you. Make sure to shut up and have a productive date There at 7:00pm Vegas clear.

Speaker B: Well, I thought so that was from a distance, but now. Now I see it's just a weak, weak transmitter.
Speaker C: Well, that's not good. This is the. Should be a. Should be a good signal.
Speaker B: Yeah, Q4. Lots of white noise. Good enough. So, no. Yeah, I think it just must be path.
Speaker C: Well, I'm looking at the power and it's showing almost 5 watts. So I don't know what to think.
Speaker A: Yeah, it just reminds me of not adding
Speaker B: enough power to it. So a lot of white noise. So if everything else is the same, then it must be just propagation right now.
Speaker C: Well, you're good here. But I haven't looked at the. Let's see. Well, that was funny. I thought I saw it actually change. Oh, I'm seeing iswr. Well, now it's not high expected
Speaker A: sa.
Speaker C: Now it's high power. Now it's five watts. Well, it
Speaker B: still sounds the same to me. Still sounds the same to me.
Speaker C: Get out. Look at
Speaker A: that antenna.
Speaker C: Maybe it fell down or something.

2026-01-06 15:12:25 UTC 369.3s · GEARS W TX (146.115 MHz)

Speaker A: Well, don't know if you're still there. You're checking the antenna or whatever, but curious if you have any plans today after all that rain.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I'll probably do some construction.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was looking at the. This thing came up on Facebook, actually, like a WX spotter. And he showed kind of a forecast over the next 14 days. And so temperatures look above normal and precipitation looks about normal. So right now on Underground 7 days looks like mostly all partly cloudy days for the next week. I don't know if you can really predict seven days out right now. But on seven days out, they show mostly sunny. But anyway. So we get a break. A week break at least.
Speaker B: Yeah. The main thing I'm looking forward to is a lot of solar, And I've got high swr.
Speaker A: Yeah, you better fix that. I guess.
Speaker B: Not right now. It's still a little dark outside.
Speaker A: Yeah. But at least you know I'm telling you the truth. I wouldn't lie about something like that. Anyway, if someone's truly not sounding like they normally do, which is the case.
Speaker B: Oh, I was just puzzled. I'm on the rad cowl, but that doesn't make any difference if the antenna is not. And I've got a pretty good idea. It's probably just come loose up there. You know, I need to re. Screw in the SO239 or whatever it is. Yeah, I think it's SO239. PL259.
Speaker A: How high is it?
Speaker B: Oh, it's on a mast. I can't reach it. I have to lower the mast and then do the work and then put it back. Yeah.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. Do you put anything over the SO239, like when you tighten it down, like any sort of water resistance?
Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Plus it's got. This antenna's got a aluminum. Aluminum thing on it. Hang on. Echo X ray tangles coming in from Mexico. Just a second here.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Go get them. All right. Maybe I'll turn on 40 meters, see how it sounds. KN6MGK.
Speaker B: There's more than one person answering him, so I won't worry about it for another minute here. But yeah, I'm gonna have to lower the mask and, you know, fix it. If it was a tower, it would sure be a lot easier. Or a telephone pole or something. I'd rather climb than lower the mat. I just got through fixing part of my big loop. I still have a little bit more work to do on that, but. Yeah, I mean, I could spend half the day doing antenna work.
Speaker A: Yeah, I could, too. Lots of stuff to be doing around here, but. Yeah, I'm hearing, I'm hearing 40 meters. Okay. But everyone's still pretty light to me.
Speaker B: Well, I was going to answer, but. Oh, well, I'll wait. Yeah, bugs me. I didn't turn the connection. I. I thought I had it all really set up well, and it come loose again. But that huge, you know, the big windstorm has a lot to do with that.
Speaker A: Do you think other connectors are better, like the end connector?
Speaker B: No, it'll be the just loose, unscrew yourself because it's on a mast and the mast twists a little bit with the wind and so forth. So. Yeah. And you know, I had it all. I thought I had it all mechanically tightened down and everything, but with that much wind. Oh, well.

2026-01-06 15:19:54 UTC 284.9s · GEARS W TX (146.115 MHz)

Speaker A: Oh well, they're going to spend a bunch of time talking about nothing.
Speaker B: Well if you want to know the truth, at least what I think a lot of ham radio is like that. I think a lot of the weather information is pretty worthless that people talk about on ham radio all the time. So not for the marine net, that's different. But yeah, you hear people talk about it a lot. So even on the Chabasco net we'll mention their weather at their house and stuff like that. They might be in Arizona or Nevada somewhere. Has totally no relationship almost to marine. But anyway, that's beside the point. This is ham radio topics. It's something that's fairly worthless about. People talk about their ailments, illnesses and weather. I don't like either of the two topics really.
Speaker A: Yeah, they spend a lot of time talking about it, you know, giving out every single teeny tiny detail, which is ridiculous.
Speaker B: Yeah, take a look at. The stuff that I would be interested more in is like, like let's say space weather, you know, that's the solar information and stuff like that that has to do with ham radio propagation. A lot more so I think than many of these weather storms. And then you know, how about, if you're going to talk about weather, how about, let's talk about like the El Nino, La Nina, the effects long range forecast for certain areas or how about the hurricane season, you know, what's the prognosis for that? Although that probably doesn't matter to us too much on the west coast. But still those are topics that I'd be more interested in in weather instead of just you know, what temperature is it? Is it raining in your neck of the woods?
Speaker A: Well, regarding hurricanes, like if I knew somebody was going to be out in a certain part of the Pacific pretty soon, I might want to let them heads up, you got a hurricane coming. And then the other would be if, if you happen to have a serious weather warning like I did, I have had it. I have it right now as a matter of fact. I have a flood warning still. They were going to cancel it at 4 yesterday and they upped it again for a few days.
Speaker B: Yeah, well that's another topic. So flood warnings is another thing. Or flood watches. Yeah, like that, those, that information makes sense to disseminate, you know, potentially help, help people keep them away from areas maybe.
Speaker A: Yeah, and, and one could say talk about like Highway 5 shutdowns which we just had one the other day yesterday I think it was.
Speaker B: Yeah, well over Here on Highway 99 it's the same thing you know it came up see another good bit of information like you know Highway 99 or road closures there's always road closures that happen around our state but yeah that the information like people could say hey if you're headed to Tahoe, you know you might carry your chains or something there's restrictions starting at wherever it is, you know I don't know. So yeah that, that kind of weather related information that helps people I'm cool with but not the standard old, you know it's you know 49 degrees and so on but that's what we do Ham radio that's what we do Talk about the weather and going to the doctor.
Speaker A: Okay, I'm gonna switch over to 7192 they finally called for me so I'm gonna talk to him for a little bit. N6 GRT I'll see you a little bit.
Speaker B: All right Happy net to you. I'm listening Kilo November 6th Mike Golf Kilo is just monitoring.

Speaker A: Well, yeah, you know, let me. Okay. Well, I was going to say
Speaker B: one of
Speaker A: the
Speaker B: things that talks a lot about ferrite beads and toroids in general has been a YouTube channel under the Smoking Ape kind of. You can look through his channel and see different topics on toroids and mixes and things like that. I'm sure you'd have to look potentially over the last couple years because you brought up that topic several times and he's done experimentation with it and stuff. But I think in General, like mix 31 is a little bit better for the lower bands. Mix 43 is a little bit better for the higher bands. So I don't think there is something that's perfect. I have no idea what these companies are using for their ferrite beats in the first place when you buy some of these that have it on there. But I some of these cheap Chinese ferrite beads, I don't think they really do the job. So if I was really being particular about it and I wanted to buy ferrite beads, I'd probably have to, well, either trust like what ham radio outlet has or something or buy directly from Mike Palmar who has known good. And they're good engineers. Right. So they have good quality. I'm sure there might be another company too like that Allen Designs or something, you know, I don't know. But at least, you know, use reputable company like that to get the right size. You need.

2026-01-06 15:56:11 UTC 14.9s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Yeah, well, I don't think most of them are designed that way, so I would presume that was. Yeah, but then you'd have to use a bigger right? You'd have to put more than one loop through it type of thing.

Yeah, well no, I don't look at DX Engineering. I've never bought for them so. But I will say that magnetic hoops are interesting. People thought about building them and so on. They're not that big. So I think the main component is that. Isn't that like some sort of a magnet or something down there at the bottom that you can adjust and so on? Anyway, it'd be fun to play around. And in terms of working places, yeah, there's always a stinker in the office. That's the way it is. I never found a place that was perfect so I just tried to develop good business with people as much as I could. Although there were some incidents and that's the way it went. So I don't know. My wife works at that company so they hire a lot of Native Americans and some of those are hard to move along, you know what I'm saying.

Yeah. Dan Pat filters. Yeah. Kennedy build them where he could order them, man. Anyway, that KV9BBR, Michael Martin a few years ago, he discussed. He discussed some, you know, like Morgan, I think it was a brand or something brand that Gars ended up going with. And they were fairly expensive. You know, they've been working pretty good. So hard to. Hard to deny that, but there was a set you could buy like you could buy. I think they came from China, of course, on like, you know, the different aliexpresses and so forth. And a few business been going. This neighbor Chris over here, he. He got a set of those from. From the Ham Fest and I think, you know, they paid like 80 for all five or something like that. You know, he got a decent deal on them and he used them. Last time I was with them both, he's one and they seem to work okay as far as I could see. The only interference between us two and I'd be working on. He was on 20, so bands are pretty close.

Speaker B: if you're interested in one anyway. Yeah, well, there's kits like that too. I think for the most part, these ones you have to be prepared to wrap a lot of toroids. You don't know
Speaker A: Michael Martin. You do too, because, you know, you just played his video for tape measure. You're washing stuff.
Speaker B: KB9, Vbravo, Victor, Bravo, Romeo. Anyway, I bet you could Google that call sign.
Speaker A: You know, bandpass filters. And I bet you bring it up. I'll try it right now.

Speaker A: Yeah. Anyway, so.
Speaker B: And I don't think they look terrible, but the Gar's group, what happened was some of us, not me, I did invested the money. One of the guys, there was like five of them, and they all invested the money. They ordered them up and they put it with the club, you know, and now what happens is, you know, the club disbands or whatever. I don't know. You got me. I guess what's happening, they all forget about it. It ends up being a donation. But who gets them? I've always thought. I've always wondered about that going to disappear. And they have been so. I don't know what. It's all the equipment and stuff that's all around, laying around, and houses that belongs to the club or whatever, you know.

2026-01-06 16:06:00 UTC 55.8s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Well, if you're really wanting to learn how to do things, you know my out there at the Gears Club, at least doing QRP Labs bulk buy. I don't know how far along they are with that, but. So you can buy all kinds of kits, like from QRP Labs, different things to build different radios. You could build a 20 meter radio, you could build a multi banded radio, whatever. They're small little radios. And then they have all kinds of surface components. I mean, those are already integrated on board. But all kinds of Polaroids and things like that you got to put together and put in place, solder them on and so forth. And then you can build your own complete radio. And that's going to have Van Tass in it too.

2026-01-06 16:07:18 UTC 110.0s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. Here's one on kitsandparts.com Let me see what it is. So this may be the one I've seen before, but like the board shows L1, L2, those are inductors. L3, that are inductors. So they're wrapped and then there's capacitors, a couple of capacitors in there. Then of course, a couple of junctions and a couple. Yeah, so,
Speaker B: yeah, that's how that goes.
Speaker C: You can't go your
Speaker A: band. You gotta leave your radio on the filters for somebody else. That's what you have to do. That's part of what clubs run on there. You know, bands, how that works, Right. They actually have a band plan. So there's a. Usually a band coordinator. That's how that works. So before you change, you're supposed to. You're supposed to communicate with the
Speaker B: band coordinator at a field day. I can't hear him this morning.

2026-01-06 16:09:49 UTC 151.3s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: Yeah, that price has gone up a little bit I think. But that's about right. I think it's 100 bucks or so. If I remember right. There's a couple. Invest in, in one, you know. So what if you're going out on. I'm going to say, you know, 15, 20, 17, you know, 10, 12, you know, those are all the higher bands. So 40 meter doesn't come until
Speaker B: later than 80 at night. Yeah, I like 15 meters a lot
Speaker A: is like, let's say if you can, like if you can work it out like say you have a 20 meter filter on and you stay on 20 meters, that's all you do. Then say Blake was on something else if he has no filter. But I mean do you care? Well, you probably do because he's your brother. But if you have operating somewhere on your own and you don't care probably what somebody else is going through, it's their
Speaker B: having a pilcher on their unit, right? That's correct, yeah. Because the
Speaker A: pass is only like for you what you transmit and you receive. It's going to clean up everything on both sides. So you won't be sending out any negative harmonics, but they'll be here. The 20 meter band potentially interfering with them because you're so close. So yeah, they 15 and they don't want to hear you then they have to have a 15 meter passover.

Speaker A: Yeah, I copy that. Anyway, so that's why it's important on a field day event. Like we're going to run three or four transmitters. Three is a good number, I think, for three different antennas and so forth anyway. And then people share time on each different transmitter or whatever. You pick the different bands, you know, that you're going to do like 20, 15 and 10, you know, or whatever, which is fairly common on a good, you know, like C17 meters. Those are the work bands. Right. So not really in any other than, you know, they're not really
