Well, thank you, Robin, for doing the net. You're sounding Great. This is Steve KN6NGK. I can have some traffic when you're all done. Thank you.

2026-01-13 02:38:21 UTC 269.9s · W6PAR-P Rx (146.070 MHz)

Well, then in the rest of that I am doing good. Yeah. You know, meshtastic is a very bipolar thing for me. I'm not sure if that's the right word to use, but yeah, or manic depressive. I don't know. But anyway, ups and downs, a lot of downs the last couple days, like right now, I mean, it's been going gangbusters all of a sudden. And I think it coincides with this One Mobile Unit, BSR1 earlier today I could see near Oroville, you know, somewhere near Oroville most of the day, and then probably comes home sometime, you know, around 5ish, 5:30, all of a sudden everything kind of lit up here. And you know, that that particular node seems to be trafficking messages back and forth like crazy all of a sudden. And was able to get a message to Pat across town. He's over by Pee Wee High School, and I'm over more towards the railroad tracks. So one got to him and one has somehow made it to Dana from Paradise one way or the other. So there's some traffic going that way. And also Pat, one of Pat's nodes is seeing the W6 par. Now, I don't know if that's in one hopper. I think it's one hop or something. But anyway, so that's some encouragement. But I think, you know, when it comes to this, these little feed nodes we're having, both Pat and I are having troubles with that and with the antenna and so forth. When you look at the connectors, the connectors are all kind of wonky, I think, but they're not very good. Like, the female part doesn't even seem like how it could touch the male part in the other side of the connector when you tighten it down, because one is recessed so much, I don't know how that even works. So I think that is one of the factors that we're dealing with. What the antennas are kind of not the best anyway. So I think that's the next step for me is to order a little bit better antenna or try to build one or something. But also the Bluetooth. The Bluetooth on it is terrible. I mean, at least for the one that Pat has. I mean, we take it down from the roof, put it right by us. We have good signal on Bluetooth on our phone. And then, I mean, literally you can walk 10ft away inside the house and it drops down to where it's almost gone. So like the Bluetooth in that, at least in these, even mine at my house isn't the best, but they Just aren't that good. So how are you supposed to put them up at 50 or 100ft or something if you can't have any Bluetooth connectivity to them? I'll never know. That's where it gets frustrating. I thought the whole. The whole idea of it being like WI fi possibility. Well, they don't have WI fi in them. So anyway, mesh is kind of crazy, but that's what's going on right now. Let me reset. Okay. Well, I know I wasn't 10 minutes yet, but I know I'm really long winded. So anyway, one thing I thought I'd mention as well. Anyone out there listening? I think most. There's a nice antenna the club has for sale. I forget the price exactly. You can talk to Dan there or Jay or Robert maybe about it, but nevertheless, that's the Diamond X510 and I have one. I have friends that have them. They're very good. They get out pretty far. And I would suggest anyone who doesn't have a base antenna consider that one highly. I think it was only used by your club for a couple of years. So anyway, just wanted to mention that on the net and also considering doing some sort of a POTA maybe this weekend. As long as the weather holds out in case anyone's interested. So that's what I'm up to and I hope everyone's doing great and staying warm. I couldn't make it up the hill today. Just working on meshtastic stuff too much I think. I spent four or five hours again on it today, so that's all I got. Thank you, Rob. Thank you from being out there. Everybody, this is kilo. November 6th mike golf kilo signing clear.

Well, by the way, I've seen the Secret Squirrel up there in paradise, too. So just on the mesh map, though, which doesn't mean a lot, just seeing it's one thing. But anyway. And the Bluetooth, if anyone's still listening out there, it's hard to say. I mean, I don't think I have too bad of a problem with mine at the house here, because it's 30ft up. I can access it throughout most of the house, I would say, but it does get kind of weak. And so, I mean, I have to go through about, you know, 15 foot of house before I get up. You know, I'm probably about 40ft away, so that doesn't seem so bad. But, yeah, I mean, the other unit that Pat has just doesn't seem to want to function much more than, say, 15ft away. And he's using an Apple phone. Apple devices, which are a lot wackier for me. I mean, the Android seems to work easier for me, but whatever. That might be something to play with as well. However, he's got other stuff that they give, like Bluetooth devices that he can talk through the whole house with. So I don't understand that. So it seems like. And I was. I would assume that these devices have a Bluetooth, A separate Bluetooth antenna somewhere on them, not the antenna that uses for the radio. So that's my thoughts on that. And the other thing was these antennas that come with them, how do you get that shield off without breaking anything? I can. I can break things real easily, but you guys have talked about trimming off, say, 3. 16 of an inch. I wanted to do that.

2026-01-13 02:50:04 UTC 13.8s · W6PAR-P Rx (146.070 MHz)

Yeah, but you're not talking about before it goes to 90 degrees there. I mean, where you can physically see the antenna through it, right? You're talking about where that part where it has written on the megahertz, where it goes to the knurled section of plastic.

2026-01-13 02:50:41 UTC 64.6s · W6PAR-P Rx (146.070 MHz)

Speaker A: So just prying between the two sections, the sections where the antenna housing goes to that knurled spot.
Speaker B: That's not good enough. Yes, that's neuralink.
Speaker A: Yes. So, yeah, that spot. Yeah. Where you. Where you would tighten it there, there's a division between that and the next part of the antenna housing.
Speaker B: So
Speaker A: I thought you would just be able to separate it
Speaker B: right there. Yes,
Speaker A: it's the one that come with the seed. I'm talking about the one that comes with the seed devices. So, yeah, it has a 90 degree elbow. And, yeah, I wouldn't suspect you'd pull it apart at the elbow. It looks like that might even be pinned in. So, yeah, I wouldn't suspect you would do anything with that.

2026-01-13 02:52:14 UTC 16.0s · W6PAR-P Rx (146.070 MHz)

Okay, Copy that. And I got it. Now, that is unfortunate. My eyes aren't good enough to see that difference, but I can feel it with my fingernail, so. So. And you're saying that you cut about 316 of an inch off of yours?

2026-01-13 02:53:18 UTC 71.0s · W6PAR-P Rx (146.070 MHz)

Speaker A: Okay, well, there went 316 of an inch, so that is what it is. Yeah, and I
Speaker B: said there went 316 of an inch, so. So that's what it is. And I'll do the same with the other. I guess we'll see if that makes a difference on that. But so on this antenna again, I. I mentioned in the net there that, you know, the female. It has. It has. It has female threads and it's the female sma. Right. Well, that. That part's a slight bit recessed into the dielectric. I could see that with my one good eye. And then on the other side, where it connects into the connector, that the little male part with the male threads, it's recessed as well. And I think that it would seem to me like it bott out or hits that dielectric without the male part going into the female part of the SMA connector. I don't know if you're seeing that at all on yours, but that seems like that's problematic.

Speaker A: This is KK6VZD, Chris, getting ready for the Monday night Net. Wondering if somebody could give me a radio check, please?
Speaker B: W E Z A X N repeater.
Speaker C: Yeah. Chris, this is K6 KDS. Carla. Hey. I can hear you really well. You do have a little bit of static in the background, but it doesn't affect being able to understand you.
Speaker A: Okay, thank you. I wonder what that could be all about. And to answer your question, yes, I'll do that presentation we talked about. I'll plan on it.
Speaker C: Awesome. That is great. We'll put you down. Thanks, Chris. This is K6KDS, monitoring for the net.
Speaker A: Thanks again. 73 KK6VZD. Clear and standing by for the net.

Probably what Carla is hearing from me, but, yeah, much better than. You're very, very, very readable this time. All right, thanks, Chris. Yeah, I've got an update. I think I'll send it via email. We'll give you an update about the working employees still employed. Going good. Stand by for the net. Ko6bby7:31st.
Speaker B: Talk to you soon. Send me babe.

2026-01-13 02:55:49 UTC 63.2s · W6PAR-P Rx (146.070 MHz)

Speaker A: Okay, then. Well, the last question on the note, just for sure, is where you install that cable? What hole to put it in the bracket? Because many of those holes, let's see, you know, well, not the big holes, but the two small holes are all squared off, and you can jig one in there kind of sorta. But the back holes are rounded and the SMA fits
Speaker B: right into that. Where did you install yours? Okay. On the bracket of the seed
Speaker A: node, there are holes for the antenna. Well, there's four holes, two of which have, like, little squared off sections. And you can kind of wiggle the SMA into that to make it work. Did you guys put it in one of those, like, towards the front closest to the seed head, or did you put it at the back of the bracket? The very back.

2026-01-13 02:57:31 UTC 51.2s · W6PAR-P Rx (146.070 MHz)

Yeah, that's what I was telling Pat earlier. He had it exactly wrong like that. And I mounted it like where it was an inch away, you know, from the pole in a sense, but still, you know, the pole at the very top. We tried to put the bracket at the very top minus about maybe half of an inch. That's where it is right now. But still, the antenna was pretty close to where that is. Yeah, mine at home here, I have a piece of PVC pipe. It's like a 3 inch PVC pipe. I have a metal pole going up to that and then about maybe a three foot section of pvc. And that's where I've mounted my bracket onto that. So anyway, maybe I'll have to do the same thing to his, too. I think that makes it big. That makes a little bit of a difference, too.

2026-01-13 02:59:24 UTC 31.8s · W6PAR-P Rx (146.070 MHz)

Yep, exactly. All right. Yeah. Well, that was a good little conversation on that. I think that might solve some things. I'm not sure, except that I might give this antenna. When I get it down here. I might try to just go real hard with it or something. Give it. I mean, I can break things. That's the problem. But I just don't feel like it's seating down all the way or something, so what do I know? All right. This is KN6MGK. Thank you.

Yeah. Okay. Yeah. And I actually think that that toter is. Is your buddy Jake. I kind of have that feeling because kind of looked up his address and it's kind of close to where Pat lives, so. And that note is, is it would be like in the backyard of that kind of. So it makes total sense if that's him, if you know, his personal one or something like that. Right. That's just the thought and means nothing really, but anyway. And yeah, I mean, definitely can see that other one, that BSR one floating around in Oroville most of the day today. And then when it came back towards this way, and that's kind of close to me somewhere, you know, and then all of a sudden activity. So wherever he. However he has that one configured and however it's, you know, it's going, it works pretty well. It has lines going to it. It seems like it has lines going from my note to it. So somehow, anyway, it's making it in through that one. Anyway, that's just my thoughts. Thank you. M6MGK.

Yeah, his location is along Manzanita Avenue near Bidwell Park. So in that general area, in fact, you can see the, like, verbena fields, like so green area in Chico there. Anyway, that's called, like verbena fields right along Lindo Channel, and that's right across from that. I mean, really within Rockville is distant to that.

Yeah, I think so. And when we ever get into that one, like if I'm close by or at Panera or something like that, I think that that might pick it up and send it out to people and so forth and get put on the map and all that. So I think that's one advantage to meshtastic in a certain sense, in good times, at least, where maybe it's easier to get the mesh developed based on what you're seeing if you have someone have an Internet connection in there. Okay, well, I'll say 73. KN6MGK. Thank you and good night, everybody. Take care. We'll see you next time. KN6MGK. Claire.

Speaker B: KB9MYS?

Speaker B: Yeah, I still haven't got to that yet. I still have to buy the ball mount but. So I'm not in a big hurry but I'd like to in the next month or so install get some help installing a ball mount on my car for a 10 meter. Well, most. Most of them I'm gonna use put a 10 meter antenna on it. But that's what was a 40 meter M that I'll be using.
Speaker A: But
Speaker B: I'm not in a big hurry. KB9 MYF.
Speaker A: Hey, if I remember, last week you had somebody say that they were gonna contact you about that.

Speaker A: Good evening, this is ak6jn located in williams, your net control station tonight for the gar's Monday night net. This net meets every Monday evening at 2000 hours local time using either the af6oa or the w6grc repeater. We will use the W6GRC machine on odd months the year and on the even months of the year we will be using the AF6OA machine for our nets. This is a directed net. Please make no transmissions unless cleared by Net Control. When checking in, please give your call name, a signal report and if you have any traffic for the net or if you wish to be included in the Talk Back segment. That control has no announcements for tonight. Are there any stations that do have announcements? Please come now.
Speaker B: KI6SMF.
Speaker C: Go ahead, Phil.
Speaker B: Yeah, this is Kilo NB6 here. By November, a number of you had indicated an interest in participating in the Emergency Communications Incidents Simulation Net. I had hoped to launch that tomorrow, but some things have gotten in the way. Still working on it and hope to possibly be able to do it yet still in the month of January. So stay tuned to your email and go let it drop and come back. And if you did get one of the emails from me over the weekend notifying about the delay, please respond. That's the way I'm tracking what level of interest people have. The email contained three options and so please reply to that email and let me know and I will hope to try to get the Net operational before the end of the month. This is KI6SMN, back to net
Speaker A: Copy. Thank you Phil for that announcement. I'm sure everybody who's interested, we'll get back with you. Are there any other stations with announcements? Please come now.
Speaker D: KF6OVI.
Speaker A: Go ahead, Mike.
Speaker D: Yes, just want to remind everybody about the upcoming Winter Field day on the 24th of this month. And the main page on the website has been updated a little bit. The PODA side page did not go live on the 9th as it was supposed to. I don't know what happened there. So the person that set that up, Kylie, she is due in by midnight tonight on their long trip back from Florida. So I will be finding out from her and we'll get that updated. Also, there's the possibility we'll be maybe playing with the Fox doing a Fox Hunt on that day. So it appears right now that Gears is having their own winter field day over in Oroville. And so I don't know that there will be many members coming our way, any of their members anyway. I Just wanted to let everybody know that watch for emails and the website to see if there's any changes. KF6 Obi back to net control.
Speaker A: Copy. Thank you Mike for those announcements. Is there anyone else with announcements? Please come now. Hearing that we'll move into the member check in portion of the next. Please let me know if you want to be included in the talkback section. AF608 Ian and Cape,
Speaker B: Alpha Foxtrot 6, Oscar Alpha Ian and Cape your Q5 and I'll be listening 73

Speaker B: to me and I've got nothing for the net. So back to net
Speaker A: Copy.
Speaker E: Thank you.
Speaker A: Ryan, have you checked in K6JB, Greg and Chico?
Speaker D: Copy.
Speaker A: Thank you.
Speaker C: Have you checked in and so far
Speaker A: everyone has been Q5 into the repeater. Sorry, I haven't been saying that. K6 KC6UFE, Bill and Capay,
Speaker E: KC6UFE, Bill in Cape. Good evening. It Q5 good signal as always. Check me in, put me on the round table.
Speaker A: Kathy. Thank you.
Speaker C: Bill, you're Q5 as well.
Speaker A: Have you checked in KC6UIS, Bob and Elk Creek?
Speaker C: K66UIF, Bob and Elk Creek and Gray signal tonight and put me on the the list.
Speaker D: Copy.
Speaker A: Bob, have you checked in? I have you on the list for the talkback segment. KF6 Obi, Mike and Willows,
Speaker D: Kilo, Foxtrot 6, Oscar, Bravo, India here and put me on the round table. You are Q5 indoor repeater this evening. Happy New Year to each and every one of you.
Speaker A: Happy New Year to you too. Mike. I have you checked in and Q5 as well. KG6K U O Lester in willows. This is KG6 Kuo Lester in willows and you have a good Q5 signal. I don't have have anything to add to it tonight so I'll be in
Speaker E: and out the listing.
Speaker C: Copy.
Speaker A: Thank you. Lester, have you checked in Ki6smn, Phil and Willows?
Speaker B: Okay, Isaac system man Phil here in Willows transmitting from the QTH of KF6 LBi while sitting at his home Q5 reception and I should have added during the announcement. I sent that email out to about 26 stations and some as far as the eastern time zone. So we'll see what happens. Back to net. This is KI success event. Thanks Joe.
Speaker C: You're very welcome.
Speaker A: Thank you Phil, have you checked in here? GIC, Q5 KK6FNY, Courtney and Willows. Km6bff hanking out creek. K6wsn Logan and Willows. W6lnd jeremy and orlando. At this time I would like to check for guest check in. Do we have any guests this evening? Hearing none. We will move to the talk back section of the net
Speaker C: first.
Speaker A: We've got Bill and Cape. What have you got for us, Bill,
Speaker E: AC6UFE, Bill and Capay. Good evening to the group and looks like we're just hanging a couple of degrees above the freezing out here and at night so we're staying away from the actual freezing the pipes. So that's not bad. A little bit of frost but it's going to start warming up a couple of degrees anyway from the rest of the week and the bands are kind of sliding into their winter characteristics. 20 meter band pretty much shuts down when the sun goes down. Leaves us with 40 and 80 and 160. Still a lot of noise on those bands of all kinds of. So you have to kind of pick and choose if you want to work them. Not much else going on. I'm gonna stay here at the home QTH for the winter field day and the potas and stuff like that. It's just a little bit chilly out there for me. So back to net kc6ufe
Speaker A: Cappy thank you Bill. Yeah, I've noticed in the mornings when I'm getting up and going out to do crossing guard duty that frost on the windshield.
Speaker D: So.
Speaker A: Yep, right. Hovering around the freezing mark. Moving on, we've got KC6UIS Bob in Elton Creek. What do you got for us, Bob
Speaker C: Casey 6UAS well, going on top of Bill's comment I'd like to mention a new product I found. It's called the Freeze Miser and what it is, you put it on your hose bib and you turn it on and when the water with temperature outside gets down to freezing it will let enough water go through to keep your pipe free Freezing. I think it's a wonderful product. I have it and haven't seen freezing up here in Elk Creek yet so I haven't really installed it yet but I am going to as soon as it starts to get colder up here. And let's see, I had another comment
Speaker A: and oh, you know what, it has
Speaker C: left the arena so KC6UIS pacinet
Speaker A: copy. Thank you, Bob. We'll circle back around you and see
Speaker D: if whatever it was that left your
Speaker A: head came back at one of the morning nets that I attend. We've actually discussed that. It's a Comparison of a cue ball hitting a rack of balls that people you hit it with one and all of the other thoughts that you had just shoot off in all kinds of different directions.
Speaker C: So I can relate to that.
Speaker A: That happens to me quite frequently with that moving over with Mike and Willows, what have you got for my reverse Mike?
Speaker D: Kf6 Obi here. Good evening Joe and Annette. And yeah, on the weather. It was at 32 degrees was when I got up this morning and that was before 6. With the temperature inversion that we've had. The next couple of days we're going to have some valley fog or tule fog. Tule fog came in this morning into Willows, but it was gone by by about 10 o'. Clock. It burned off. I have been rebuilding one of my off center fed dipoles, one we've used several times during field days here at the property. And there was nothing really wrong with it, but I'm rebuilding it anyway and really setting that up for tuning and to use during one of Phil's exercises with the drt. I also have a new N fed half wave to set up and test and one that I've repaired. I need to get that tested again. So been working on some antennas. When the sun's out and it warms up a little bit, that's all I have this evening. KF6 Obi back to net control.
Speaker A: That kind of reminds me, I've been working on a new ground plane for my JPC 12 vertical antenna. Got some 18 gauge wire that I'm going to be taking 12 ground wires and spreading them out about 20ft long,
Speaker D: which is a little bit better than
Speaker A: what I had before. Standby. Bob, coming back to you, did you remember what you wanted to talk about?
Speaker C: Okay, 66 UIs. I did remember and what it was was about our current rainfall number. And I want to make a comment also about news reporting. So here we go. Up here in El Creek. I just made 17.9 inches for the rainy season which starts July 1st. And my question to all of you that I'd like you to think about
Speaker D: is
Speaker C: I remember years ago when every news station used to always say how much rain we had for this season. And then all of a sudden they stopped, stopped giving us that number. And what does that coordinate with? It coordinated with them telling us we were in a drought and they didn't want us to know that we were in a drought is my belief due to my rain numbers that I always looked at. And so I just want everybody to think about how it used to be lied about about the rain to do. An untrue position as far as our rainfall. And I just think it's fascinating. To this day, no newscast gives rain accumulation numbers and I think it's horrible. Back to you.
Speaker A: Yeah. You remind me of another thing that the news stations are doing now that they didn't used to do. It's been a long time since I watched network news. It's. I've been on cable or YouTube or things like that. But what they're doing now is they're giving you a vote. We've got three stories we'd like to
Speaker D: have you listen to.
Speaker A: Give us your vote on which one you want to hear. Since when do you vote on the news? Just tell us what they are with that. Is there anybody else who has any comments for the Talkback section?
Speaker C: KC6UIS.
Speaker A: Go ahead, Bob.
Speaker C: Yeah, that's very, very interesting about the vote thing. And I haven't watched network news for so long I didn't even know that was happening. And my answer to that is all they want is your email address. And I'm sure if you go.
Speaker A: You had to give him that. Well, that could be. I don't know. I never got involved in it.
Speaker D: To me, I just.
Speaker A: The first time I saw it, I was just. That's ridiculous. Just tell us the news. Anybody else with comments?
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: Are there any last comments or suggestions before we close the net? Last call for any late members or guests wishing to check in before this net closes. Please come now. Hearing none, this concludes the GAR's Monday Night Net Net control. Thanks everyone who checked in tonight and invites you all back next week. This is AK6JN returning the W6GRC repeater to normal service. The GAR's Monday night net is now closed at 2019 hours. 73 to all. This is AK6JN signing Claire.

Speaker B: yeah, yeah.
Speaker A: Playing
Speaker B: some FP8 at the same time. Yep. See, right now you probably hear the. Hear it? Let me see. Now you don't hear it. Let's see here. Now you do hear it. KN6MGK.

Speaker A: Yeah. That's how you can make a nice antenna,
Speaker B: huh? I think. Didn't Rush Limbaugh have something like that? He had three or four of them on his property. Yeah, I think it was like some sort of rhombic antenna or something. Yeah. You know, if
Speaker A: you had enough property and you were interested, you could probably have a club. Say, you know, you can experiment on that property, you know. And in fact, these days, you know, we can even run my rig remote or something like that. Right. That'd be kind of interesting. So that way there, you know, people could. Could use your system like a club or something like that, you know? Anyway, I think it's possible. Even in paradise, you know, there's probably someone who has five acres or something.

2026-01-13 14:11:54 UTC 27.0s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Well, there's always stuff to learn. Like right here, running FT8. I think it'd be fun to figure out how you're. Like you said, oh, it's black. It's black. Whatever. So, like, being able to just be able to see. I don't know what it means when you say that, but maybe it's either a call sign you haven't worked before or a country you haven't worked before, something like that. But I wouldn't mind trying to figure some of that stuff out.

2026-01-13 14:12:49 UTC 87.0s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: Okay, well, maybe I haven't
Speaker B: really messed with any of that stuff, actually. So, say, messing with the colors or something. Is it under view or something? Where it says filters. Okay, yeah, I see that. So,
Speaker A: okay, so that's question one. Okay, so then decode highlighting. Okay. New CQ zone. I see. Which ones of those do
Speaker B: you have set up?
Speaker A: Well, I tell you, I'm going to tell you what I don't have checked. I don't have checked. New it zone. New it u zone. On band. New grid. On band. New grid. New call. New call. Lotw user.

Speaker A: Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Excuse me. I don't even know what those numbers you just read off were. Version I'm on on WSJTX is 2.7.1.
Speaker B: Yeah,
Speaker A: maybe. I don't know. Yeah. Especially if you're on a Linux computer. I'm not at the moment. But you're not even given some of the newest upgrades for quite a while.

2026-01-13 14:16:53 UTC 200.2s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Did you copy that? Yeah, I think we had some interference or something because I was hearing it on my end and I'm not running any FTEs at the moment. I'm just reading it or watching it anyway. Yeah, I was saying I'm not sure if you can even get away, get away from spyware and stuff like that even on Linux because anything with a Core 8 or newer intel chip, you know, has that AI capability inside and newer operating systems are all being designed around that anyway. So, yeah, I'm not sure. And yeah, just having your phone, I don't care, any phone that you've got, if it has any sort of GPS in it at all, whatever. I mean it's being tracked even if it doesn't have a GPS in it. The cell phone companies, when you connect in or whatever, they're going to know where you are. And believe me, the government, the Department of Homeland Security has already got contracts with all these providers to get that information. So our own government wants to know what we're doing and when we're doing it and our patterns and yeah, I'm sure they don't really care about you or me unless we do something wrong. Then they are going to delve back into it. Right. And then they can use that as evidence. Well, I could send you the videos. Why? It is because they're using gray areas and that the gray area is like the Department of Homeland Security for security and reasons and so on. But they're buying this information from corporations. Their corporations are selling it for profit. You consent to it on every app your phone has, you're hitting that little button. I agree, I agree. Right. And nobody ever reads them. You're consenting to it. So those companies are able to sell your information to the highest bidder and that happens to be the government a lot of cases. So they can sell your data and they do. And it comes in big old packages and they are building big data centers in Texas and even in Washington D.C. in that Trump ballroom. What do you think is going in the basement of that that they're not telling you about? Although you can see on satellites and stuff all the equipment being brought in to do that ballroom with big trench shoring stuff that goes down deep into the earth to shore up the soil. They're going down, you know, probably a couple hundred feet underneath the White House to put in a ballroom. Come on. And he's even fired the original architect and hired an architect who is more consistent with data centers. So yeah, the data centers are going everywhere and that's what all this energy is all about. And they need that. They need that for military purposes. They're going to claim medical purposes, but lots of other purposes, and that's why they need all this energy and stuff like that. So. AI, it's coming, baby.

2026-01-13 14:20:51 UTC 52.7s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Yeah, it's not about that. Again, that version of AI and also not having to have your police force do that work. Like here in Chico, five lights with cameras. And they collected, like, 1800 warning citations in the matter of, like, a week. So there you go. I mean, that was the. That was the reported on the action news now. So that's not like tinfoil hat Steve, there. So now they have five intersections, they have cops posted at, on top of all the signals and giving everyone tickets for either turning by turning right without a complete stop first. You know, when there's a red light or running the red light, and that'll constitute like, a $500 fine.

Speaker A: Well, I guess stay up on the ridge until they decide that it's a big money making thing. Because even if they don't get, I think the city of chico gets like 100 bucks for every one. Well, when they turn those 1800 warning citations into fees, that'll be like 18,000 a week that the city will be able to collect. So it's a big money making thing and they don't have to have a cop for that. Right? So that's my point, I guess. And by the way, the city of Chico hires a lot of non gun toting cops. You know, I applied for one of those positions at a time. I wasn't cut out for it for a couple reasons. But nevertheless, you know, cops without guns. And then when they need a gun, then they
Speaker B: have to call those guys, call the other guys in, you know, They pay them a lot less and stuff like that, right? So
Speaker A: they think about the city or the town of paradise hiring, you know, say half a dozen of them kind of cops to go along with the other kind that they've got. And those guys just run around looking for people to give citations. Or say if you parked in the wrong spot like that person did in Starbucks last Friday when you were trying to find a parking spot, you know, they'll give all them people tickets.
Speaker B: That's that kind of thing that they do so the regular cops don't have to do it. Well, congratulations for sure. I
Speaker A: don't think I'm gonna hit that, but I'm hoping for 40 anyway, and we'll see beyond that. But anyway, good testament to relationships and how they work. You know, maybe guys like you, and somewhat guys like me should give a class to others who can't seem to do it. I don't know. But communication, right, that's one of the biggest things I think in a relationship.

Speaker B: just. I was calling some CQ a little bit. Yeah. First
Speaker A: thing, it
Speaker B: happens, I get up early
Speaker A: at like, 4:00', clock, and I didn't start until 4:30, but I was up at 4, and I come out here, and the first thing when I turned it on, bam, Panama. And I haven't had Panama, so. And then this other one called San Andres. Anyway, so, yeah, that was pretty interesting. And they usually come right away when I wake up early like that and get out here. Then as time goes on, as we get into, like, this time right now, then it's all the same stuff that I've already got, like a lot of Japan and China and Indonesia.

Yeah, well, I just wanted to focus on one. So I don't have any automatic logging or anything like that. So even. How about even figuring out how you do the automatic? Someone said, let's see, who was it? Oh, it was. I think it was Dennis that or somebody that and even you, I think. No, maybe it was Jeremy. Yeah, it was Jeremy who said that, like if I send him a report or whatever, or even just my grid on FT8, his machine will automatically pick it up and start sending me back. And I don't have anything like that set up for automatic. Like for me, I got a point and click, select them and everything.

Speaker A: Yeah, but that's grid tractor. Right, Right, right. So, anyway,
Speaker B: yeah, I think that's cool. I don't know. I don't even care about it being automatic in some cases. Like, you know, like when I'm calling cq, I got up and I went and got me a cup of coffee, and by the time I came back and it went through, like, four cycles, and so then I saw two people respond and I got back to both of those, so it was automatically calling cq, but it wouldn't get off of that until I came in here and stopped it, of course.

2026-01-13 14:41:16 UTC 336.3s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Yeah, on fda, you get back to like say some of these people. I see them every, every day, like this one from Alaska, the NL8F, and I worked them once or twice in Alaska. I mean, do you, do you keep working them all the time or. No. I mean, there's literally, you know, what, 15 decodes every 15 seconds. I mean, if you come out here every day, there's some of them are the same people over and over again, Right? Yeah. We're not talking poda. I'm talking fta, that pota. I try to call everyone that's on pota. I don't care if I've ever worked them before. They could be in a whole nother spot or whatever. And I just want to get the hunting credits. So, yeah, it's an easy hunting credit. I mean it's kind of like, it's kind of like, you know, if you're picking up walnuts and there's one that's three feet away or there's one that's 100ft away, I pick up all the ones that are three feet away. No, no. And I would be puzzled if I could even see the map on my little 11 inch screen on my laptop that I needed. Yeah. Sitting here running a machine here that about a year ago cost me $210. You know, this little Windows 11 machine, it works good, but it's just, you know, it is what it is, you know, not going to be the fastest thing in the world. And it works for field operations. So I like it. But I don't really care to put anything on my home. The home computers are all old and stuff too. I run mostly old Linux operating systems and things, just emails and stuff like that. But you start wanting to do a whole lot of fancy things on those and you start getting into operations problems too. I'm real frugal. I don't like to spend a lot of money on computers. So now this $200 computer is the only new computer I bought in. Probably like, I don't know for myself anyway. Probably 10 years. MCK buys old computers. Like I used to buy them in the pawn shops for 100 bucks or less and dump off the Windows system and put on the Linux system and run those for a couple years, you know, whatever. And I'd buy extras, have them laying around my house. Right now I think I've got at least three, I would say desktop units laying around here that have been pulled offline for whatever reason. Getting old. My wife's right now had Windows 7 on it. Originally and it has Windows 10 on it now. And of course, you know, that's kind of expiring, so she's still on it though. I've been meaning to convert her over to Windows 11 machine, but I haven't done. So anyways, that's all that she'll want to run. But anyways, yeah, my old Linux operating systems, that's all I've got. I had that one, maybe that little Raspberry PI. Heck, I was running inside my house off of my little Raspberry PI for emails and stuff like that. I mean, it's crazy. Yep. Yeah, well, I was running the whole operating system on that Linux, like Linux Bullseye, Debian and even checking emails, going to websites, looking at YouTubes real slow. He's buffering all the time. You know, I can see like say 30 seconds of a video and it stops for 10 seconds to buffer. Then I can watch the next 30 seconds and so on. Yeah, well, hey, watching video like that, it beats. Remember when you had dial up and you pull up a website? One page of a website and it was filled down from top to bottom. I still have that kind of happening on these Raspberry PI sometimes. So yeah, it's crazy. And then, you know, it's funny that the Internet service costs a hundred bucks a month. That's pretty. And that's the kind of stuff that you're working with where you still have old school desktops and so forth and you pay 100 bucks a month for Internet. It's ridiculous.

It won't get up over those hills and it just keeps on going to the south. So, you know, I can see lines going over the top of Vallejo and everything. Yeah. So I got to be sitting here at my station and looking at that kind of stuff, right? And caring about it right now. Polas and sodas and stuff. That is pretty cool. But man. So I just don't operate that way. I'm the guy that comes in like yesterday and I put new two new PL259 connectors on a couple pieces of coax. And actually they were BNCs. Think about it. And I cut a little 18 inch piece of that, threw that coax back down. I've got, you know, four more tools sitting on the bench and I went outside and did something else. Right. You know, and then yeah, come when I get home or whatever, if I come inside, whatever that might be during the summer, especially 8 o' clock or later, you know, then I can do something inside. But other than that I'm out doing other things or whatever, anything else except being inside. A lot of times when I get up early like this, then I could maybe I could enjoy some of that. Maybe. But who's doing poda at 5am?

I've been sitting there watching it go by. I haven't seen any PODA stations at all. There was one earlier this morning. So? So even though you see them on whatever it is, Grid tracker. Can you see them on your FT8? Can you get to them? Or do you just put out a blanket call? That's the only other option I can think of.

2026-01-13 14:54:03 UTC 82.3s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: Yeah, you're just, just putting out a general call,
Speaker B: essentially. Yeah. Because you haven't seen him come up with CQ on the left at all.
Speaker A: Exactly,
Speaker B: yeah.
Speaker A: So my thoughts are like, because I've. I've given blanket calls before, like because of HAM alert or whatever, and they'll pop up like the. What's his name? Jason Hwb or the other Jason Cam4 Ack. You know, they'll be out. Or even K8Mrd. Anyway, they'll be out doing PODA and it'll turn off my ham alert. So then I'll just immediately go on the frequency. Like I'll see, I'll say like 7.075, so I know they're at 1000 offset roughly. I'll go over there and I'll start putting out blanket calls, you know, with my location and that's it, with the grid square and hope that they come back. And then most of the time don't. So I've gotten one or two contacts that way, but then most of the time don't and I'll switch it to. I'll do the TX even and I'll switch it to the other one so that I'm making sure I'm Transmitting on both 15 second intervals.

2026-01-13 14:57:08 UTC 113.3s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: Yeah, I'll have to change my configuration of my antenna to get 15 meters in. I think that's the trick here on getting other countries. So I'll have to maybe add a capacitor so far down the length of the coax or something like that. I'm sorry, no length of the antenna anyway. If I do that, then I should be able to get 15 meters in and then I can work some other countries on that. But I think that's the next step here to get more countries
Speaker B: operate on a different band. Anyways. Yeah, styles of operation seems like.
Speaker A: Like sticking around the house and sitting, you know, at a station and all that stuff isn't really my thing. So maybe it will be someday, right? But at the moment, just too many things I like to do. Do what I have to do on the outside. So today I have to go to Yankee Hill. Now tomorrow, if things work out, maybe I can go up the hill to paradise and then Thursday back over to Yankee Hill. So. And then we'll see. Then Friday, maybe back up to Paradise. I'm not sure. So I'm going to be busy the next few days for sure, one way or the other. So. M Radio, Husband, VHF or maybe Meshtastic, I'll bring that with me, you know, that's all I'll be able to mess with probably for the next couple days.

Climb to the roof of Yankee Hill there. There's a barn that's pretty dang high. I mean, it's probably 30 foot up already. And just go stick a node off the ground there real quick. Just, you know, bring up a bucket of sand and stick it. Stick a pole out of it with a node on it and see what will happen. I'll have to go retrieve my MGK1 node and do some magic with that, maybe.

Speaker A: Yeah. Are you getting a. Were you getting a lot of that atmospheric river stuff they were talking about like a week or two ago that really hammered California. Did that affect you at all?
Speaker B: No, we haven't got anything really bad yet, but no, they were getting hammered down there at that time. Not so much up here right now. We're just getting going on. According to forecast, about 10 days at least. There's no rain days in the 50s and lows in the 30s and 40s. So I tried still here. No, they really got Hamburg on. It was pretty good because I heard this. The drought is officially being declared over.
Speaker A: Yeah, we could certainly use some of that. It had all these dire predictions of us getting nailed and it really petered out for us. And yeah, it's pretty bad here. We've been in drought conditions for a long, long, long Time I moved to the other side of Vegas back in 2001 and we were in drought condition then, early starting one. So it's been a while, no end in sight for us here. So we were hoping for a little bit really didn't get a lot and even now the mountains don't hardly have any snow on them at all. It's been a very dry season and actually kind of warm.
Speaker B: Yes. So far this winter we have not even got below freezing, which we don't normally that much. We got mild so far. So is lake Meat still in really sorry shape?
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah it is. It's been pretty much going down, down, down. I think we may have had a little bit of an increase, a couple to be maybe last year. But it keeps going down. There's a little website to get to that shows you that. So they're all freaking out about that. But you know they're saying that, they're saying we're running out of water, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. But they keep building new homes. So I'm not sure what's going on. Of course the whole market is driven by money, right. Profit, that's what that's all about. But I'm not sure what the game plan is. Maybe desalinization plants.
Speaker B: Right. Yeah. That's too bad they don't do more of that. 270 GMD. I like to talk to some guys I know also in the Rockies or by Aspen area so far. It's a really light winter here. Got snow or precipitation. It's not good enough that this starts with MF River Thunder. Yeah.
Speaker A: And I'll be sure that's disheartening. Right. Because that's where we get our water from in Colorado, the Rockies.
Speaker B: So don't know.
Speaker A: But other than that.
Speaker B: Yeah, today's beautiful.
Speaker A: They're talking about warming up to the upper 60s I think later this week here. So we had a little bit of a cold snap. Relative cold snap for us, you know, upper 30s at night, 50s during the day. But they're predicting a little bit more warm. Matter of fact it was only a couple of weeks ago I was actually up able to see, get one to one of our higher mountain tops and do some work. The road was clear. It's got some snow up there now. But we get near the 70s again for more than a week or so, it's going to probably be all melted off.
Speaker B: Well there Alpha, we've both been living long enough to know that that can all change real quick. Can be really Wet. Yeah. It's just a shame that we can't pipe some of this one place when we get up here because so much runs off in the ocean.
Speaker A: Yeah. You know, you probably heard me say that in the past. I don't quite understand that either. You know, put some kind of a cross country pumping system system in place, use the current right of ways for the highways to do it so the environmentalist guys don't get all crazy and pump that water from the areas of the country that tend to flood and dump it in the top of the Colorado. Would seem to solve a lot of issues. But I don't know.
Speaker B: Look what they've done with oil and fuel lines. My late brother in law used to run the Conical Oil. Used to run the pumps station up in Rollins, Wyoming which is out in the middle of nowhere. But yeah, the pipeline explained to me how they would change different types of fuels in there and all that. Used to bring a pipeline and it went from there all the way to California and central Wyoming. They had pipelines all over the place. So I don't know but we should get access or two or this nice. Lives in California most of my life, you know. And I feel whenever I could think about how much water for anything that's out of the college. My water bill's always the same. Been here seven years. Water bill's all the same, electric bills all the same. Met all, you know, hydroelectric generated and all. So that is nice. But rain all the time.
Speaker A: Right. And I know in California had the flooding then we were talking about. They ended up dumping the water into the Pacific like I said just would make sense to do some kind of a pipeline but.
Speaker B: All right Larry.
Speaker A: Well, I'm getting in the middle of a real heavy traffic here on i15 trying to get out of town. So I'm going to put the mic down. Good to hear from you. Thanks for the shout out and I'll. I'll be on the radio most of the day going back and forth forth on the i15 here. So I'll, I'll talk to you later at 7. PND Las Vegas.
Speaker B: Good, good to talk to you. You take care today.

Well, looks like it's 54 degrees up Magalia on this fine morning and 6 NTM the start of yet another beautiful day. Oh, good morning Mr. J. What are you busy with this morning? Sa? Now I hooked up this other amplifier and it only shut off once this morning so everything's working pretty good. I'm headed for the VA this morning so I won't, I won't be here after 11 o' clock or so. Maybe 10:30. Oh man. Man, that's, that's quite a feat right there. I'm proud of you. But expect it in your case. Congratulations. No doubt about it. It's an unheard of number. Roger. And I seen, I seen her in a picture in a two piece bathing suit. Yeah. You're a lucky guy. Well I was looking at a Nebula X1 or I think that's times one. That is a hell of a projector. That's their top of the line for 2,200 bucks. All glass lenses, crazy numbers. Outdoes everything AI 3500A an SI lumens. Yeah. Unbelievable. Unbelievable specs. Completely portable. Up to a 300 foot or 300 inch screen. Only thing I can't confirm is how close you can put it. But it. I seen a scale there that said 13ft. That's. I only got about six or seven feet so that's the last thing and pretty sure that's the one I'm going to go with. Pretty, pretty, pretty cool setup. Trevor came up with that one 4K. Yep. 1.5 optical zoom and I. There's only two of them in stock. They're actually $3,000 projector but there's. They got a couple of returned ones at 2156. And did you see that, that, that gamble's got crazy graze, crazy spec. I don't want the carry case. That's another $900. But check, check it out if you, if you do just for the hell of it. Somewhere down the line if you go there and click on that at Amazon and watch the video they played it with using a hedge. A hedge so that they could get the 300 inch. It's actually bigger than that screen. They're playing it off leaves and you can see the video. One button. It does it all focus, all glass lenses. It's impressive. You'd have to spend five to $10,000 to come close to that little puppy right there. It's so good. I'm scared. Say again?

Speaker A: I had to thank so I blew it twice in a row I'm shutting off the HF I had to say good morning to Terry we He sent us some tomato seeds there and I wanted to say thanks for lowering and how much it meant to us now if you don't mind repeating it for the second time I. I promise you it
Speaker B: won't happen again. Well I thought it was against a. A pair of some trees it looked like a hedge. The only one
Speaker A: that supports 40 watts of stereo sound AI it comes pre programmed with Google something or another
Speaker B: Netflix, all that stuff. This guy comes and
Speaker A: buys the Peterbilt I'll jump on it the minute I got the cash in my hand otherwise I could I'd have to I'd be empty in my bank account to buy it out outright of course Let me see I gotta go look at that because today's payday I believe.

Speaker A: Well, I'm sorry to say, but this is the Social Security never is late. This is going to be
Speaker B: the first time by one day. Big deal. I couldn't find the price
Speaker A: for the. I couldn't find the price for the. Those. Those other speakers. I'd have to go look at the frequency response. Otherwise that was the next thing I was going to go look at. They look nice, though. The whole setup would fit nicely up there in that. Those top cubbies with the speakers dropping down to the shelf above the pillows.

Speaker A: N7t andy port, oregon, california.
Speaker B: System 19 link up.
Speaker A: I am in Fort Irwin, California, just a little north of Barstow on business. Met with some folks here heading back to Las Vegas.
Speaker B: Oh, man, I think you're out in BFE. Good afternoon, WB6JKV. Handy scratching, hard at work in bananas. A. There you go. Yeah, I know.
Speaker A: I got. I got one of my operations out here, so I'm just visiting with some folks and heading out.
Speaker B: You got a little.
Speaker A: I got a little POC PTT over solar radio I use with a SIM card in it and connected to a DV switch to All Star. So that's how I'm getting into.
Speaker B: It. Sounds great, man. Sounds like you're at home.
Speaker A: Yeah, it works pretty well. Surprisingly well, actually. Tends to hold a pretty good connection to the network. I got T mobile, so they do really well on coverage. Got a little cheapo Bluetooth microphone for it and so I can do hands free and it works good. I use it in a pinch.
Speaker B: Yeah, audio sounds great, man.
Speaker A: Back in the day we called that hi Fi. Good, good. I've been playing with it a bit. I always have a problem with over deviation if I use a microphone that's built into the radio. Sounds really muffley. There's no highs and audio is kind of low. So I got this Bluetooth mic and I had people tell me it sounds much better. It's got a lot more gain on it. So anyways, how are things here? Neck of the woods
Speaker B: Busy, man. Getting ready to take off and go to lunch. Yeah, here's a business box. Trying to guide you around.
Speaker A: Yeah, I gotta shut this thing. Usually I have it set up to just give me alerts like if there's cops or something like that. But we gotta switch out the normal talker. It's irritating.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's funny. It can be annoying. All right, man, I'm gonna bounce. Just thought we'd say hello. I wasn't paying attention and I thought you said fort Orgs. It's like, holy crap, is that place still alive? That's where I went to Basic and AIT back in the 70s anyway. All right, Ralph73, man. Enjoy. Have a safe trip home. WP6KKV is out of here again.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, thanks for the shout. I got. According to the GPS, I got three hours. All right, take care. And 7T ending.
Speaker B: N7tnd ab4ld how's it going, ralph? Hey, Larry.
Speaker A: Going good, going good. How you been? How was your holiday?
Speaker B: It was very nice, thanks. And I hope you Had a great holiday. So you're traveling today, huh?
Speaker A: Yeah, it was quiet. You know, like I told you, my mom's the only family I have here, so holidays are always quiet. That's okay. Took a little bit of time off work, but on the other side of it now. So we're well into the new Year and spraying at high speed. A lot of things going on at work,
Speaker B: So. I didn't realize you had family in Northern California. Whereabouts.
Speaker A: No, no, I don't. I don't. My only family in the States is my mom. She lives in Vegas. Everybody else is back in Germany. No, I'm here on business. I got a. I got a group of folks that are part of my operation down here at Fort Irwin that support the Army. So I was. I was visiting with them for part of the day and I'm just heading back to Las Vegas now.
Speaker B: Oh, okay. Good deal. I'm glad it's not a holiday or it might be rush hour, but I don't know if that's going to make any difference. Well, 1p1 get over the pass and head into Victorville. It shouldn't be too bad. I don't know exactly where you are. Hey, is Gil still around there in Victorville?
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm just north of Barstow, so I'm not anywhere near Victorville. Yeah, Gil's still around. He's not on the radio much anymore. A lot of his system isn't even on the air. I haven't heard him on for quite a while. He used to. He used to connect to us All Star, but he doesn't do that either. So I think he's kind of pretty much. He's pretty much out of it as far as radio goes.
Speaker B: Okay. So, yeah, I haven't heard him in a long time, but wx, wxo, I mean, hxo, have they done have an All Star on their repeater on the day date?
Speaker A: No, we don't have All Star on 8. 8, we do. I do an RF link to a blowhard mountain above Cedar City. But there is no but I don't have it handy. But you can probably look it up. There's an All Star node that's part of the Snowbird system. So you can get into the system 8 connected to via All Star. Like I said, I don't have it handy driving right now. But you want to drop me an email or something? I can. I can tell you what the note number is.
Speaker B: Okay. You know, I don't. I just wanted to follow up. Anybody that I would know, besides yourself. I don't know how often you get on there, but you know, that's Marty. KK4M. I don't know if he's still active. And what's his name, the attorney? I can't remember his name. Smith. Smith's his last name, but I don't remember his call. Is he on the radio? Very much. He the one up?
Speaker A: Yeah, boy, smith up, yeah. W4Hmv. Billy Smith. No, I don't hardly hear Billy on at all. I haven't heard Marty in years. And you know, as far as 88 goes, I don't. The only time I talk or listen to eight is if somebody tells me there's a problem with it because I maintain it. So I've been. I've been on it quite a bit over the last couple weeks because I had to fix the PA and I've been. Had a problem with the link radio. So just making sure it's still working. But you know, there's guys like K7JL up in Cedar City. He's John Lloyd, he's one of the primaries. I know him fairly well. I don't know if you talk to him much at all. But there's a lot of activity on it. They run a net, I think once a week, maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. I forgot when it is. Thing goes for like freaking three hours. But a lot of activity in a very expensive system. But like I said, drop me an email if you don't have my Gmail address. I'm on qrz, you can send me an email. So I'll look up the note number and send it to you if you're interested.
Speaker B: Okay, that'd be good. Yeah. I was just wondering if there was any All Stars there. And you know, Black Mountains, Red Mountains? Not any of those, but apparently not. There was a guy, W7. Mark down there, Henderson. They stalked him all the time. I haven't talked to him of the year, so I wonder what's going on with him.
Speaker A: Yeah. Call sign doesn't ring a bell area, I don't know. But as far as All Star goes, we got All Star alarm up top on our UHF network. All our repeaters are on All Star. I still have the 420 link radios up as a backup in case All Star goes down. Which happens every now and again.
Speaker B: Right.
Speaker A: Or the Internet goes down is a better term. We use 5 gig microwave link between the sites, but that's. And we got a server up. We got a server up in Vulture that we're connected to and that's how I'm connected. I tie to our server that's in the cloud and then that's how I'm connected to the network right now through the lvra.
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. Maybe you can just send me all kinds of note numbers and stuff like that. Yeah. I looked up Marty. KK4M. He's not sign a key from QRZ. I've wondered about him for a long time. Of course. Jan. Oh, gosh. What was her PA? Her call? NK7R. No, that's not NK7N. I don't remember. She. She gave me several night tests and I spent the night at their house one time because I was going to go to the meeting and I think there was a test section. Test. I have a hard time talking today. I'm very tired. But yeah, she's. Silent key. Yeah. Billy Smith. That's who I was thinking of. And what about Joe Lambert? Is he still. I'll tell you what.
Speaker A: I'm going. I'm going through some canyons right now and I'm losing the system bad. Let me give me about 10 or 15 minutes to get out of these mountains and I'll try to call you back. I think. I think you asked about Joe Lambert. Yeah, Joe's still around. He's not. He's not radioactive, but him and Jody are still around. So I'll try to get back in a bit and so at the ending.
Speaker B: Alrighty. Ralph, I should be here.

Speaker A: Okay, Ralph, give me the node number and where it is. AB4LB.
Speaker B: Okay. It's 600790 and it's someplace in central Utah geographically, but it's the All Star node that will link you into the Snowbird system. That's the 8H tied into.
Speaker A: Okay, sounds good. I guess you carry, you gotta carry your paperwork no matter where you go, huh?
Speaker B: There's a, an application called Google Keep that is good for keeping notes and to do lists and crap like that. And I, I realized I had it on my phone so. So when I, I pulled over a little bit back there and looked it up real quick like you to see.
Speaker A: So that's.
Speaker B: I keep, I keep things like, you know, all star stuff and things like that in there. So I have it handy.
Speaker A: Yeah, that's a good idea. And you have a, an Android phone, right?
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, I sure do.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, I'm a Apple user because it's so easy to operate. You know, their voiceover is so much better than the one that you have to buy for an Android. I just like it better. I had a program on a different phone call Talk and I had that on a. Oh gosh, I don't remember what the phone was, but I used it for Skype and stuff like that. The voiceover was horrible. But this was probably 15 years ago, maybe between 12 and 15. And so once I got my iPhone, it talks and you can pick voices and you have the pitch and you can have this and you can have that. Pretty much have the best of all the world for a Cypress person and even people that can't use their hands, you know, other things are hearing it's so much nicer and you know, the tour is still going to be around forever and ever and ever. Somebody, you know, some people like the Android, other people like the phone even tighter people like the iPhone. But I have a lot of friends that have the Android and how many miles you got to go to get home?
Speaker B: Yeah, my wife still uses iPhone and iPad. I use a Mac just got. I didn't, I didn't like iOS and everything is so converged anymore. They're very, very similar. But like, like on, like on Android I got a Motorola flip phone. The old Motorola RAZR style. It actually it's a really nice. I think Apple's talking on maybe doing that next year.
Speaker A: I don't know.
Speaker B: But anyways sounds like it's working great for you, which is the important part. Utility.
Speaker A: Let's see.
Speaker B: GPS says I got 155 miles to go in about two and a half hours. Should be. Should be at the office at 4:00'.
Speaker A: Clock. Okay. You get to the office and do some work and then head home. So trying to think, you probably, what, about six or seven miles from work to home, Is that about right?
Speaker B: No, it's further than that. You know, in the morning, I leave really early, fairly early in the morning, so traffic isn't too bad. Maybe takes me 20 minutes to get there. I never really paid attention to how many miles it is, but it's not too bad of a drive. I don't have to drive on the interstates unless I go to our corporate office. Our corporate office is by the airport. But the office I work at is near the Air Force base. So it's not too bad of a drive.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, I didn't realize it was over there. I thought it was on the Strip. That would be kind of crazy sometimes. Lyle, when he was alive, he worked there on this trip, didn't he? Or did he work in some corporate office someplace else?
Speaker B: No, Lyle. Lyle was the Chief Information Officer for Caesar's World. So he worked at Caesar's palace. Right, on the Strip. And then of course, he left there and went. Moved to Florida years ago and worked for the company. It's an Indian company that owns Hard Rock Casino and some other properties like that.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. Shame that he passed away. I really like Vile. And Nat, I asked you about him before, but I don't remember. He's still kicking around.
Speaker B: Yeah, Nat moved to Phoenix. Matter of fact, he.
Speaker A: He's.
Speaker B: You'll hear him on the system every now and again. He usually checks it on netnights, but we disconnect from you guys on netnights. But if you ever want to just listen in on our net to hear if there's anybody you recognize, just connect to our main server, our All Star node, which is 29150, our HXOR mode. And like I said, we take. We come off links to call or do in the Net for obvious reasons. But if you want to do a direct connect to us.
Speaker A: I don't.
Speaker B: I don't have a blacklist, so we.
Speaker A: I don't have.
Speaker B: I don't have any. Anybody that I block. So you're welcome to connect to that. And It's Wednesdays at 7pm Pacific Time. Oh yeah. Nat found. He's in Phoenix. He has a. Has an All Star node down there that he uses to connect up.
Speaker A: Okay, well, I'll send you an email because I'd have to reboot my computer and all that to get that information. So I'll send you an email and ask you for that information. Yeah, I'd like to talk to him. I haven't talked to him at eons. You know, same way with you. When I pretty much moved out of Nevada or didn't get on too much, I didn't have all star. That's what it was. I didn't have all star until I moved to Northern California from Northern Nevada. I got remarried and she wanted to be over there with her kids and all that stuff. You know how it goes. And for a time went over there. I'm glad we're out of there. My gosh, am I glad we're out of there. And came over here to Alabama. No complaints. You know the weather gets cold. It gets cold in Toronto too. Port Northern Nevada. So you don't like the weather, stay inside over here. It's climate controlled. Yeah, I'll sit down an email. You can send that information to me. N7T and D84LD.
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, no, do that. I'll pass. Pass all numbers on to you. Yeah. I forgot when we started using All Stars. Been a number of years. We had echo link for a long time. We still do. We have echo link on our server and we have. So we have some of the guys n7tsz. Craig, he still checks into the net on Echolink. He lives up in Oregon I think. So we'll have a lot of echo link activity on net.
Speaker A: Nice.
Speaker B: Combined on top of all of our activity. But the nose always on. But we rarely hear anybody connect to it outside the net.
Speaker A: Craig. Gosh, his name sounds familiar. The call sounds a little bit familiar. I wonder if he was doing nets on Wayne Shanks repeater K7WS. Was it 14727 or 21 or was correct part of it? Oh, not prop a can of the other. Hotel Cortez. Was he part of the Cortez repeater group? Craig.
Speaker B: Craig was a member of hxo. Still is. I don't know if he was a member of Wayne's group or not.
Speaker A: Okay. How many members do you have in hxo now?
Speaker B: Oh geez, man. I. I'm gonna guess 50. Not a lot. Not a lot. Unfortunately. You know like with every anything with ham radio there's not a lot of people actually are on the system except for Net Knights unfortunately. But I would say around 50 ish.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. I don't know how many was on there when I was on there. Let's see what's his call. Sam Muscleman. I can't remember. He's called. He's still a member.
Speaker B: And 7 Sandy Friday. I didn't catch the name.
Speaker A: Say again? Sam Muscleman. I can't remember if the call is a KC7 something.
Speaker B: Yeah, you know, I. I don't believe you currently remember. I remember the name but I would say no.
Speaker A: 84 LP. Okay. Yeah. A lot of people join clubs and they're in it for a while, then they. Then they get out. I wish I could have attended more meetings. You know, I always had to have a ride in and a ride home. But it was fun. I enjoyed that and enjoyed, you know, all that you guys did. I'm sure you still do quite a bit. Are you still involved in the maker of it history?
Speaker B: No, we're not. You know, for a long time there used the 88 box up on high potency and even sometimes used for various low potency repeaters. Now they tend to do stuff mainly with FRS now and cell phones. They kind of got away from relying on the hams for one reason or another. We support the Nevada Open Challenge race that happens twice a year. That's at high speed on roadways. That goes between Lund and Hico. Lund and Hico up in the central part of the state. They use our Highland Peak repeater for that and sometimes Angel Peak. That's the major one that we support. Every now and again we'll get a request for use our network for foot trap and foot races and bike races. And we take various repeaters off ladies, tie up the whole network and let them have at it. But not Baker Vegas.
Speaker A: All right. Yeah. I used to get involved in the. Some of those races. They had the Herbs brothers. They had the race starting there at Terriblestown and. Oh gosh. And they right downtown and they would go almost up to the Tonopah. I don't remember. It was. I think it was like 500 miles or some ridiculous thing. I remember the year that they were in it and they were just blowing everybody out of the water. The two brothers and they. They were probably, oh, 15 miles away from Tarrant out there in Johnny. And they rolled it. They rolled the car and went unbroken leg. They didn't even finish that year. Man, those guys are daredevils.
Speaker B: Yeah, it sounds like it. They're still big in China, man. They got big mega gas stations and convenience centers all through town. They got a big one right at Jeep going down the highway on I15. They got a casino or two and everything else. They're definitely a part of the community.
Speaker A: I met them when they were building Terrible down in Pahrump, and they took over another casino in the south. South end of the valley. I don't remember the name of it. It's also an RV park. And then there was another RV park somewhere in Iowa or Ohio that had the same name. So I'm thinking they were part of that. It seemed like everything they touched turns gold. And they had their own helicopter. They would fly back and forth. And I don't know if they own anything out there in Pahrump anymore or not. All right, well, I think we've tied this up long enough. And maybe I'll touch base with you a little bit later, let somebody else have a chance to use it. It's great talking to you, Ralph, as always. And I'll shoot you an email and have you sent me off all the info of the. The note numbers and when the meeting and all that stuff. N7TND84LD.
Speaker B: Okay, Larry, take that. And that's same back at you. Great to talk to you. Great to catch up. So I'll chat with you later. N7T and D. Just north of Barstow.
Speaker A: Listening.

Speaker A: Kk7ddi.kk7dt. Ken, did you ever get your Silcraft boat anchor working?
Speaker B: Well, kinda. I guess it was worth it for a little while. That. But only. The only thing, I. I couldn't understand a word. The people that were on that, we were picking up what they said. I can't understand fandom. I sent that thing to Florida with. Thank you.
Speaker A: Maybe that's a good home for it, huh?
Speaker B: Yeah, that's for sure. What are you up to?
Speaker A: I'm just sitting here slaving a place with a salt mine, finishing out my work day. Aside from that, another mud.
Speaker B: You in Panaka then?
Speaker A: Sorry, Quick heat. All I heard was Panaka. Say again?
Speaker B: Are you in Panaka now?
Speaker A: Yes, sir, I am. Although oddly enough, I'll be in Boron next week. Week, sadly enough.
Speaker B: Well, we got to have Borax, you know that. We got to have her.
Speaker A: As the marketing department says, Boron is essential to life. Yeah, we got stuff and things happening. I haven't been there since, I don't know, November, something like that. But I'll sure be glad when I'm back in Lincoln.
Speaker B: We'll sure be glad to have you back. I got something for you to look at over here. When you get a chance to tell me what you think of the CV base station antenna. And it's huge. I got to put it together. Maybe it'd be better for Puzzle for you to put it together.
Speaker A: Well, I could probably give it a good shot and then even tone it out with some instrumentation and see if it would work for the amateur 10 meter band. Because 10 meters, a lot of fun right now. You can hop around the.
Speaker B: That's what I was thinking. One of these days when you get a minute, I'll have you come look at it, see what you think. It says on the box that it was from Williams, I think, out of Vegas. That's where it came from. Said it's a base station DB antenna. But I understand you can, if it's set right, you can use it for 10 meters.
Speaker A: Yes, sir. I have a. You know, the regular CD whip antenna on my truck and I don't even need to retune to work 10 meters with it.
Speaker B: Well, what I was thinking, I've got a Cobra 29 Night Watch Ltd Classic here on the shelf. I gotta get Mike and that stuff for it, but I thought maybe I could run it. You'll have to look at it, see what you think.
Speaker A: Yeah, I know there's some tvs that could be, you know, import CDs and such like that that you can run on Ted Neighbors.
Speaker B: I'll have a look, you know, take
Speaker A: a picture of it. Ask Google about it. No problem.
Speaker B: Good. Hey, can you still. Can you program on the. This bowl thing that I got. Can you pack repeaters like. Like Red Mountain and Angel Peak? That's out of Vegas. Can you program them into that radio?
Speaker A: Yes, sir, I most certainly could. I could also add Matt Elmer's new repeater that's up on Highland. Have you got it programmed yet?
Speaker B: No, I haven't. I haven't done anything with them. I need to get them all Pro feed programmed in there so when I go to Vegas, I have a radio that I can get out at when I'm in Vegas.
Speaker A: Yes, sir, I can help you with that. So I'll be gone all next week. I'm out of town. I'm going to Cedar tomorrow and I'm pretty busy on the weekends lately.
Speaker B: We're doing.
Speaker A: Stephanie and I are doing the EMT class, so we can volunteer on that ambulance.
Speaker B: But.
Speaker A: Yep, hit me up. I can help you out.
Speaker B: Thanks. I'm glad you're back. I stopped by your house one day and knocked on the door.
Speaker A: I.
Speaker B: Nobody. I heard the music was playing pretty loud, so I didn't think anybody heard me, so I just left.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, that's been known to happen on occasion, but yeah, you're welcome. Knock anytime. If we're here, we'll answer.
Speaker B: No, thanks, I will. So you're going to be gone over to California for all next week?
Speaker A: Actually, I'll be home and expect off work on Friday. Not this Friday, but the one after. Yeah, I'll be here.
Speaker B: Right. I'll give you a shout on the radio if you're listening.
Speaker A: Well, I probably won't be listening to the radio because I won't be up here working. But you know, like I say, give a shout, come on by, whatever. Get my number, too.
Speaker B: Is it the same one you had before?
Speaker A: The only phone number I've ever had. The only mobile phone number I've ever had. I still remember my childhood number, back when you only had to dial five digits.
Speaker B: Well, I can remember when you picked up the phone and the operator said, number, please, and I used to say, 1, 4, 6, R, that was my grandmother's phone number, to come get me.
Speaker A: Yes, sir, my elder. You got me on that one.
Speaker B: I was just a little kid and I used to get on the phone and you'd just pick up the phone. Operator on a switchboard say number please, and I'd give her that number, and they'd hook me up to my grandma and I'd tell her, come get me.
Speaker A: And now we have the Internet, and I'm not sure we've really changed all that much.
Speaker B: I don't really think we just. It's gone crazy, hasn't it? It's funny. From when I was little to what it is now. It's gone crazy.
Speaker A: All right, Ken, I gotta poke some more things on my computer screen. So, yeah, let's get together next week. God bless you. Talk to you when I do. Next.
Speaker B: KK7DP7DBi73. Good to talk to you.

I didn't catch who that was, but go ahead, Ken. Yeah, this is Jeff, Kilo Oscar 6, Hotel Victor Sierra. I'm a newer ham, and I had a question. As I scroll through my memory channels every time, it keeps getting stuck here on this repeater, it's just loud and fuzzy, and every other channel I have is quiet. And I'm just, you know, scan it through the memory and boom, it hits this one again. It's just hissing and loud. Any info on that? Thank you.

Speaker A: Year, maybe two. I march it on. Yeah, I've heard you on a few times. I just haven't chimed in. I, I've got an antenna problem. I've got water in the coax. I, I, I got a new coax. New, new mount and all that. I just gotta get off my lazy duff and change it out. But anyway, I won't hold it because it's probably not that good a signal, so. But here again.
Speaker B: Yeah, good to hear you too, there, Clarence. Yeah, yeah, get, get that coax fixed real quick. When's the last time you talked to Brian?
Speaker A: I might have been an HF and going on almost a year, pretty close. It's been probably a year, maybe or more. I, I talked to a couple guys that talked to Brian and.

Speaker A: You take care n6k ne here. Setting out the sun. No wind, clear skies. Supposed to be that way for maybe about another week. How's the weather in Colombia?
Speaker B: It's been good. We've had some overcast basically all day today. Currently 77 degrees. Can't beat that. Okay, the wife is yelling at me, telling me that dinner is ready. I'm gonna go knock that out. But I will be listening. And again, good to hear you Clarence. Take care and pick your key and eat.
Speaker A: Sure. If your YL fixes in there, it's probably a nice one. So look for you a little further down the logo man. Take care 60 UK.
Speaker C: No, I bet Ken's not having an Ida burger clearance. How come your sound signal sounds so good on here? Best I ever heard you.
Speaker A: Hi Larry. Good evening to you. Good early late afternoon. Good early evening, whatever the case may be. How's the things over on the coast there in Florence? Still keeping your powder dry over there?
Speaker C: Yeah, this week we are. This week we are. No, I just. Just came
Speaker B: in
Speaker C: and heard you on here and I've never heard your signal sound so good on here. So be mindful. What's going on with you there? How you've been treating you.
Speaker A: Sitting out here soaking up some vitamin D here sitting, sitting right next to the. Right next to the 100 year old man. He's still kicking.
Speaker C: Good afternoon to you, John. Remember meeting you in Clarence in person for the first time with you all. You guys came up to my place in Forest Ranch. So
Speaker A: good
Speaker C: memory that day. Well, this 55 degrees here since I've been shining today. But still a little chilly outside. But I should just put some vitamin E myself. I sure don't get enough of it here.
Speaker A: Cable5 business. I've got a feed point problem with my antenna. The new coax. Before I ever came in yesterday I had little problems problem situation today so I didn't get to it. But probably tomorrow, the next day I'll. I'll get that taken care of. The signal should even be better yet there, Larry. Anyway, say hello to Ida for me and philosophy and all that and yeah, the Ida burgers. All right, we'll take care. 73 Larry UK 73.
Speaker C: 76. Good to hear you. You should behave out there.
