Speaker B: I haven't seen any prediction for snow in this area or down your way, but I guess it is. They're going to get it back east somewhere. They've got some big storms coming in and they're going to catch it. But we are way under moisture for our area in cedar. They don't have hardly any snow up on that mountain. I guess the sea resorts up there probably have to make snowdy so they can see how. They sure didn't look like there was any mountain snow up there when I was looking up that way.
Speaker A: Yeah, same here with the Lee Canyon. I think they're making snow. But it's warm. Just warm up there. You know, it's like 60, which means it's probably 35 or 40 up there, but. Speaker B: My favorite spot on 10 meters, man. Yeah, I have a blast on 29, 6. So that last solar event didn't mess up our HF communication then. least not too much, right? Yeah, maybe.
Speaker A: Maybe I just. Everything is hit and miss. Sometimes 10's okay, sometimes 15, 20, so on and so forth. It's really, really nice to work HF up here in the God's. God's country. There's absolutely no RFI of any kind. There's no solar controllers, LED lights, so on and so forth. I tell the guys in the South Bay, I know they throw rocks at me, they get really upset, but it's just facts of life that it's so quiet up here. RFI wise on hf. I tell them, hey guys, it's so quiet up here. I have to reach behind the radio and make sure the antenna is plugged in. I can't hear weak signals. Wow, what a. What a great pleasure. Now, when I. I had HF capabilities in Campbell, my main home residence is at. It's S8 S6 or you know, 24. Sibling noise, just noise. It's all about RFI. Don't you. And this is a noisy kid. K6K from Fosterville. About ready to go up and get some grub. I'm in my three car garage here where the ham shack's located. And it's been a beautiful nice few days up here. Sunny is a little cold. Not, not, not, not too bad. And give me a chance to pick up all the dangerous stuff like dowood pine cones and all that fun stuff. Homeowner job security K6QFO.

Place I kind of lost interest in HF because of the damn noise. 40 meters runs around an S9 last night. Listening around on 75, man, I can only hear the real strong stations and usually at nighttime you can drop onto one of the nets and interact. But when you can't hear anything, screw it, it's not worth it. But 10 meters is quiet. It's not so bad. I think it's about an S1 or S2 noise level. But every now and then there's something in the neighborhood that pushes it up around an S8. I haven't, I've yet to chase it down because you know when I'm in the mood to turn the radio on, usually it's quiet but I gotta catch it with the noise and then go looking for it. But yep, I remember Frankie. Bth man, Come on. 19 man, that might work better for you.

Speaker A: All right, Professor. I did run across a ham. Just think it was last year. He had HF problems. There's something new that popped up in the air. He hunted down. It was a solar controller generating noise. And he went to go knock on their door and says hey, get a hold of the contractor. And I guess they have to make the noise go away. Clover installed the equipment.
Speaker C: They did.
Speaker A: His problem went away. So very cool. So in anyone has solar controller generating noise, contact the party and they'll get a hold of their people and put this equipment in and swap it out. Put something in. So that was very cool. Eliminated big problem like you have, Mike.
Speaker B: Yeah. I only have two neighbors within a stone's throw that have panels. So hopefully you don't have to look too far.
Speaker A: Oh, by the way, this just happened probably about five years ago. I've got, you know, I got about 114 antennas on top of my roof. Very clean, very neat, very sanitary. I had a neighbor come walk down. Oh geez, where was I was Watching TV and they wanted to know if I was on the air. I said why? He says I'm getting people in. Somebody's causing interference. My TV and my stereo and all that stuff. I said really? He said okay, there's gotta be somebody really close by. Let's go for a walk. We did. Walked down about oh about seven 8 ounce houses down the street and I looked at his backyard and looked at the neighbors behind him. See that antenna right there? That's your problem. It's a CB antenna and I'll bet you they're running a classic C amplifier. So go knock on his door. That's your problem. Source. And he thanked me.
Speaker B: Yeah, way back in the day when the FCC was actually active. Yeah Bill King used to get a hold of me or you know, the consumer complaints. So yeah, so myself and a couple other guys, we'd take care of this stuff, get it resolved and usually on the receivers in back then but matter of fact I don't ever recall it being the hams problem.

Speaker B: I put it on low power here so I can use low power all the way to the top of the hill Pacifica and then I can switch over to 32 and still stay on low power and not blow a fuse. Problem solved.
Speaker A: Yeah, I need to look at my truck and see what the power port, what the amperage is capable of handling. I've got 65 watt mobile radio and on high power when I need it it's hold the circuit breaker or the fuse alt A. But I don't want to pop that dude and have to go through that hassle trying to find out where it is, what it is and what size Lodge refused is it and all that nonsense. So so far I've been okay. Speaker A: How often does he update his station? Because I had my whole console here. I got a 4x8 console up here. You can look in QRZ the console I built before I put all brought it into the ham shack. Anyway, I had model band, all this old ICOM equipment, you know the HF gear, the 222 meter, 440. They all just took up so much room and my God, now with my Pro3 and my 9700 I've eliminated about nine radios up here. Pretty crazy.
Speaker C: I just need an IC905 as well.
Speaker A: Well, you know what? I have also a ham shack in the box. Brand spanking new. I was going to use it for a to go box. Haven't yet. I have a Yaesu991A looking for a home. I even have the brand new tuner for any Yaesu HF radio. You need extra tuner capable up to 200 watts. It's a plug and play piece of equipment. It's like ldg. It's one of the higher end auto tuners.
Speaker C: I'll ask around for you but I have a991Amyself and yeah, don't need any of that. Actually I'm running a 7100 with the LT LDZ tuners for doing HF or 10 meter stuff and 6 meters from the car. So it's a lot better than. A little bit better than the 8900 DC that I have but only because I can do single sideband. But I miss doing duplex and that
Speaker B: sort of thing run, you know, working satellites and whatnot.
Speaker A: Yeah, I have a, I have this. I have an LDG. What is it? It's an AT500 Pro 2, something like that automatic tuner. It was a lot of money. I paid almost 400 bucks for this thing. It's good for 600 watts. But you know something I just discovered tonight, working on 29.6. No, I think that's. Yeah, 29.6. The when I was talking to. Gosh, Mr. Pickle. Gosh I forget his first name. But anyway I was talking to him without the tuner on and I turned the tuner on. I forgot it was on because it's working HS up.
Speaker B: He said Mike, what happened?
Speaker A: You were like S5, now you're 20 over 9. I just, I said, I just turned, just turned the tuner on. Like it doesn't have a bypass in it if you turn it off.

They relayed for me. I was able to. I was able to make contact to. To a Tennessee station on FM. 10 meters. I thought that was kind of a nice touch.
Speaker C: I wonder if six is open. Yeah, I can remember when I just. I just got my General and I had my SD1000amplifier. I was playing around on FM running a kilowatt, right? And the guy said, I figured he's in like Michigan or something like that. It sounds like you're next door.

Speaker A: That's pretty cool. That's pretty cool. There's sometimes I'm on HF putting around and, and here, here, here, here, somebody. And I don't know. I think there's two problems. I think there's two issues. One, I'm not part of the good old. There's some clicks out there on HF or they're transiting further than they can hear. There'll be like F10 here and they can't hear me. So I think they're just transferring further than they can hear with putting these big amplifiers on board.

And here's all this Hedrokine, right? Coming in. I wait a couple of seconds and then I key up QRP or Noisy Kid, that little key word they can pull out. All that noise at the end that they call on me. Speaker B: Just sneak an HT on the plate just to see how far you can jump the repeater. Back in the day I used to bring up my Vomer box and just to be starting to, you know, descend into LAs.
Speaker A: Those are fun times.
Speaker C: I did have a radio with Me, security. I. Me to turn it on, you know, on the ground. But I didn't try it up in the air. I had a middle seat, so there was an elbow to the left and the right of me. So I didn't want to try and get away with it.
Speaker A: But I'm not shy.
Speaker B: If I had a middle seat, I asked, hey, man, let me sit next to the window so I can play with my radio. And that's people.
Speaker C: Sure. You know, what's that? Yeah, they think you're one of those TSA guys that they, you know, they put on the flight just to. Just to have one or two security guys on there. So I. I don't say anything. I just let them think that if they see the radio.
Speaker B: Well, there you go. Yeah. This is when I used to fly quite regularly back in the Pagemark days, man, he used to run all over the place. Pacific Northwest and all that fun stuff. Always had a radio pressed up against a window, you know.

I know some are operating out of their homes. Jim, if you're listening on 40 meters and all around the bands, I bet you you hear a lot of stuff this weekend. So maybe you ought to get that going. Myself, I intend on going down to Black Butte Lake with meeting up with some of those people from the Glenn Amateur Radio Society. Hopefully Bob will be there. I got something to show him. But anyway, I think Gears is having something over at Thermalito after Bay and I think Bob, that group that uses that Berry SF peak repeater is probably doing something as well. So if you're out and about and you've got time, maybe go and enjoy Winter Field Day somewhere. Or if you need to curl up by your home and enjoy a nice warm fire, that's fine too. So that's number one. Number two, been messing around with meshtastic devices. It's based on the LORA long range Internet of Things devices and you do not need to be a ham to do it. So it's been kind of fun working mostly with the paradise group as the folks in in Chico don't seem to be as on board, although they ought to be because the Butte Search and Rescue has a couple of nice repeaters that serve the Chico area. Anyway, it's kind of like texting using the 9,900 MHz band. And you do not have to be ham because most of us under 1 watt. So anyway kind of fun. But it does give you a headache because it's just technology stuff. So anyway, if anyone's interested and even and it can be encrypted by the way. So anyone interested in any sort of like an off grid communications setting up a mesh network might want to get in touch with me and see if we can figure out things together and help put up some more nodes. We've put up about 20, 20 stations around the Paradise Magalia area already. So kind of nice it's developing. Chico is developing a lot slower. So anyway, I intend on bringing a few devices to the winter field day at Black Butte Lake Grizzly Flat area and doing a little demonstration for anyone around there, which I don't expect there'll be a lot.
