Roger that. Kk7 nun. Kk7mun. Calling w7rsr. This is w7rsr. Go ahead. It's working. I heard you loud and clear. The melodious tones of W7RSR coming through my radio.
Speaker A: So where are you, Bill? Are you downtown Las Vegas?
Speaker B: I'm on Nellis Boulevard, Right at Nellis in Washington. So no, I'm not downtown Vegas, but not far from.
Speaker A: Well, you got a real good signal in the mesquite, so I think the system's working. Well,
Speaker B: Roger that, me amigo. Sounds good. All right, I'll get off so you can get back to your trailer. Over.
Speaker A: Hey, were you able to do anything on winter field day this weekend?
Speaker B: I did quite a few things, but nothing radio wise. Nothing on the radio. How about you?
Speaker A: No, I actually made a. Made a few digital contacts on fda, but nothing for field day. I didn't get out there.
Speaker B: Where. Where did Johnny go? But he did feel safe, you know?
Speaker A: Well, I know he had a funeral or something going on in Salt Lake that he had to go to on Saturday.
Speaker B: Roger that. But I know he likes to do that. But I thought I. I thought I read something that some of our guys went out and did some. But I would have gone with you, but you were in Pheromone. Over.
Speaker A: Yeah, darn it, I wish I could have been there. I'm sure they had a good time out there. There was quite a. Quite a group that went out, I guess so. We'll have to find out how they all did. I did talk to John Wilson up in Pocatello and they had a pretty big club turnout as well and had a lot of fun. Another year, I guess.
Speaker B: It was fairly windy Saturday, so it may have been miserable to be out there. I know yesterday couldn't have been more perfect, but I think field day ended. You know what time it ended? Sunday, Over.
Speaker A: I do not know. I'm assuming about 4 or 5 o'. Clock. I have been reading the rules this year because I knew I wasn't going to be participating. But yeah, yesterday was a nice day. Speaking of nice days, Bob hit me up about when we're going to go flying. So we gotta talk about that sometime.
Speaker B: Yeah, I think so too. I think we've waited the appropriate amount of time,
Speaker A: so.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'd like to go play. That'd be fun. Maybe Saturday morning or something. Did your lady get home?
Speaker A: I just talked to her a few minutes ago and she was just going through St. George, so I expect her in about a half hour, 45 minutes.
Speaker B: Well, you better go. You better get all the alcohol bottles and all the negligees off of your ceiling fans and clean up the house. You got about another half hour before she's there.
Speaker A: Yeah, I better get after that. I guess should take me about 20 seconds.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's, that's. That's if you took a nap for part of that 20 seconds.
Speaker A: Okay. Well, I'm glad we got got this radio figured out. Now we know. We know what station you can be on down there. When we want to communicate. I'll take my handy talkie in the house and be listening. You want to maybe try when you get a little farther up the road, see just how far that reaches? But I know that if I'm up on the hill here, I can hear hypotensy every once in a while just on my handy talk here in my truck. So I'll bet you can talk on it a long ways.
Speaker B: Were you able to find your handy talkie?
Speaker A: Where was it? I had actually clipped it on the visor on the driver's side. So when I looked through the car, you know, I was looking everywhere. But yeah, I had it clipped on the visor. So luckily I found it.
Speaker B: Well, that's too bad, because I'd offered my guys because I need one of those handy talkies. I told them they could find that one, I'd give them 10 bucks for it. And they were all looking everywhere for it. They were pretty excited.
Speaker A: Well, you better get out your checkbook and get one ordered. They're pretty nice.
Speaker B: Just because you have checks, I don't think means that you necessarily have money. I don't know. My wife doesn't quite understand that concept, but that's how I learned it in business.
Speaker A: Well, if she knows how to get it done, I can give her a call and tell her the model number and everything.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm sure you'd help a buddy out. I know that about you, that's for sure. All right, well, we better open up the channel. So I'll call you as I get a little bit farther down the road.
Speaker A: So keep.
Speaker B: Keep your radio turned on. This is KK7 Nun. I'm out.
Speaker A: Okay, Bill. Have a safe trip. Drive careful. We'll talk soon. W7RSR. I'll be clear.

Speaker A: Kk7 nun calling w7rsr.
Speaker B: It's w7rsr. Go ahead,
Speaker A: W7RSR. You're right. I'm clear past Nellis. Just getting ready to get on that apex entrance onto the freeway. And I just heard you loud and clear.
Speaker B: Yeah, you're full. Quieting into this repeater, too, so I think that's got some pretty good coverage.
Speaker A: Roger that. It's fun. Fun when this actually works. Thank you for helping me get it set up. Thank you, my brother. Okay, I don't have anything, so K37 in. You and I'll be monitoring. Standing by.
Speaker B: All right. Drive safe, seven rsr.
Please. Id. Thank you.
Speaker A: Kk7 nun calling w7rsr. Kk7 nun calling w7rsr. You copy, scott?
Speaker B: Yeah, go ahead, Bill. You're. You're a little scratchy into the repeater now, but I still copy. Over.
Speaker A: All right, well, that's good. Good to know. I'm at mile marker 68, so. Yeah, I'm. I'm impressed. I'm getting through, and I can hear you. Good. Little scratch going on, but nothing too serious. I think we're in good shape, my friend. Thank you very much. I don't have anything else, Scott, so I'll be standing by. AK7 nu.
Speaker B: All right, we'll talk a little ways down the road. W7RSR. Clear.
Speaker A: And 6kd.
Speaker B: Hey, Larry, I just read your, I just read your email a bit ago. That screen that you were talking about, you're not going to hear any, you're not going to hear anything off of that. You just have to enter, enter your. Your information admin and then your password or admin enter and then your password enter.
Speaker C: Well, there lies the problem because without any verbal response back, I don't know where I am. Well, I guess I could talk through it. So there's a couple of fields there to enter in, like your user id. And then. Because if I hit tab, is it going to take me through the second ebb of no field is without speaking anything from the other noise. And is there a third thing like an okay or something to at least go further to.
Speaker B: No, no, none of that. The tab, it doesn't take you anywhere. The only option you have there is your login, which is admin. And after you, after you enter or after you hit enter, the only option you have is to put in your password and it's not going to read it back to you because it doesn't show on the screen. Once you know you entered your password correctly and then just hit enter and that puts you into the PI. Okay, so
Speaker C: you're saying I can use the inner
Speaker B: cube
Speaker C: two or three times on F3, and I've had the first on the root.
Speaker A: Yeah, hang
Speaker B: on a second. I'm gonna, I'm gonna dump you from. I'm gonna dump you from. Carla, give me one second.

Speaker B: But at least it's. It's not a matter of radio noise. What we need to do is just insulate that thing so it doesn't make noise anymore. Maybe a noise canceling cover or something like that.
Speaker A: Yeah, I need some headphones.

Kn6MGK Pretty good and had a good time at Winter Field Day. I hope. Excuse me. A little bit of people took advantage of that with the Glen Amateur Radio Society. They were over at Blackview Lake. So did a combination of Winterfield Day slash parks on the air. And one of my friends down here, Chris also came and he. He and I. He's better than me at CW by quite a bit. He's got about a year jump on me, but he can code 30, 35 words a minute or even more actually. But anyway, so he was doing and I was decoding and stuff and I was also working with him and doing some, but very few granted. Anyway, and we were kind of stuck on 15 meters and I was working that little side band I js8 call on there as well. And we did get some dx. We got puerto Rico, Alaska, Canada and Mexico. We ultimately did 85. So I thought we did okay. We shut it down about sunset a little bit before maybe a few minutes. But I think we managed to get two PODA activations each and the contacts there. We did it on 20 meters but there was another couple of guys working 20 meters so all day. So we didn't have access to that band. You're running three or four transmitters. I think we're running three. You know, you kind of have to pick a band and we're using band passengers and stuff. So managed about 10 people or so out there. It's a good location. Well, I'd like to be a slight bit better for sure. But anyway, I'd recommend if somebody's interested in parking on the air, lots of areas around Black Butte Lake. But that's possible. Let me reset. Yeah. Hopefully I didn't time it out, but I might have knowing me. So anyways, mesh, I've been doing some more of that. Did a little, a little small short demo with a couple of guys over there. I brought a node and hung it up in a tree and then a couple other guys, Chris, myself, Jeremy all have nodes. So. So we were 55 messages on my. On my meshtastic app from the gym, a couple from the ham and a couple from the Tex. Anyway, channels because I have four channels. So it kept me listening to the unit making sounds all day, pretty much following me in from say the southern butte. So anyway, Anyways, it's a few. For the fulfillment, But.
Please. Id. Thank you.

Ko0x let's go right ahead with your question. Is there to anyone's knowledge an easy way to buy a simple replacement little D knob that came with a mobile radio but I guess I knocked it off when I was moving stuff around one day. Radio works fine without it but I just like to buy a D knob and manufacturer hasn't responded for a few weeks so I'm the bellfare goodness. You know I in days past I would have told you to go check Radio Shack but there aren't that many rounds left anymore. Does anyone out there know a source or knobs that Justin might check so he can replace the one that's missing off of his rig? I almost told you that. It's too bad joe and 9bd isn't on because I think that he's probably got a fair amount of that stuff sitting around from no different sources. A D knob. About how large diameter wise would that need to be, Justin? I'm going to say maybe about 6 inch or 6 millimeters goes to a little radiodity GMRS radio forgot the exact model number but it's not real big. The radio itself tiny too so I'd say maybe 6 millimeters. That's just a guess. Unfortunately I can't give you a good source right off the top of my head I do know it's kind of weird that there are sometimes I I think it's Lowe's has got a fairly good hardware section you can find sometimes find knobs like that there. You know who knows that And I know the Ace Hardware in in Marysville, the Union Lumber they have a pretty extensive department for hardware. I'm not so sure about knobs but it might be a place to check if you know you're ever close by there and have some time to check it out. Have you checked Jameco by any chance? Okay, once I get back in the house I'll even take a look at that Jameco. Thank you. Jameco Electronics, they have some brick and mortar stores. I think they have one down in the Bay Area but they also have an extensive extensive offering online also and I'm probably going to say that's probably your best bet. Give it a. I'll take a look for it to help a minute. Thank you. I'm a hope I hope you find what you're looking for. Does anyone else need any assistance from him Help. Sounded like Wes. Was that you Wes, I appreciate the compliment. Notes to steve.k6ijd. I would be delighted to give my phone number and the gentleman calling in can take a picture and text it to me. And that would answer a whole lot of my questions. Are you still there? You want to jot down Steve's phone number? This is K0X. You want me to do that? You guys are talking to me, right? Yeah, I just wanted to give you my phone number. Are you ready? Again. Again. Okay. Steve. 530-701-6625. I feel like I am the patron saint of lost causes in the tech world. Okay, well, if you think you can help me with that simple little knob. Alrighty, I'll send a photo. Ko0x. Thank you, steve. Any. Any other ham help requests? This is net control kk6zzd with a last call for late check ins. Please come now. Are there any other questions or comments before I close the net? Speaker B: Hey John, how you doing? Ken here.
Speaker A: Today. Sounds like maybe I hear going in the background or something.
Speaker C: Not just some music, but I just headed into the big house, you know.
Speaker A: Okay, I'm confused. I thought I was talking to ken. Ken fx, cami and r7.
Speaker B: Yeah, sorry about that. I'm full duplex. I'm full duplex now. Yeah, sorry. Yeah, I doubled with somebody. John, how you doing? And the other gentleman. I didn't catch you to John, go ahead.
Speaker A: Okay, yeah, I'm just driving up to Spring Creek, headed to Northern Nevada right now. Early start, stopped by the quick trip. I went to the Maverick but they were had some technical problems. A quick trip, little driving. Anyway, that something about the big house from NR7G Las Vegas.
Speaker C: Just kidding about the big house. I mean my work, you know. Anyway, M7K HJ just headed out to South Las Vegas near the airport. My commute's about 30 miles each way. Anyway, good morning gentlemen. I'll let you pick it up. I didn't think there was anybody else on, but I just wanted to acknowledge you and let you know that you are being heard over to Canada.
Speaker B: Nothing going on here. I just didn't want to leave anybody hanging, especially John. We don't want to leave John hanging. He doesn't get on here enough as it is.
Speaker C: Yeah, nothing going on down here.
Speaker B: Just great weather. And again I'm not trying to brag. Just great weather down here. It's currently 76 degrees. The wife and I were just getting ready to take off. We got some shopping to do, pick up some items. I'm gonna go to the adult toy store AKA Home center, which is like a Home Depot.
Speaker A: Oh, that sounds fun. Almost like a Home Depot. Yeah, I had a couple of pieces of 2 inch by 10 foot heavy rigid galvanized conduit in the back with threaded with fittings. I got 100ft of 3/4 inch Dell and 10 foot schedule 80 gray PVC. I have a couple of pieces of heavy 1 and 58 channel unistrut and a bunch of clamps and stuff and a couple of ground rods and 12ft of number two seven strand bare copper, a bunch of stuff and a 400amp
Speaker B: panel
Speaker A: and an extra 400amp breaker, twin port, I mean twin torque 200amp breakers. And then I got what else? A big master surge arrestor, lightning protector that goes in the panel. All kind of good stuff today. So hauling it up north. Gotta go to Home Depot up there and get about 24 bags of concrete and Then when I get there on that end and then over to the job site, over to KHJ from NR17, mobile US93 and I15 interchange. All right.
Speaker C: Yeah, very good. M7 KHJ over here at 215 in Buffalo getting ready to. I'm gonna bail early because I'm told there's a fatal at Jones and 215. I wanted to ask Ken, now maybe I have this completely raw, but didn't you drive truck in California and then now you're over in Colombia or am I totally off on that?
Speaker B: No, you are exactly correct. 23 years ago I met my wife, my Colombian wife there in seven countries, California. And last year we both retired and we moved to Columbia. That's where she wanted to spend her next 20 years. So here we are. Yep. No, you got it right. I used to drive 11 Western states and I used to be checking in from all over the place. Now I'm just stationary down here in Chinatown. Columbia, over to John.
Speaker A: Okay, I don't know if you're still copying a little pig of bench here on the repeater. The repeater's petering. I'm using low potency. I'm in this little dropout area. Can you still copy can on low potus?
Speaker B: Yes, I hear you just fine. So what's the final destination of all of this? All of this stuff you have sounds like a repeater site maybe?
Speaker A: Yeah, I switched over back to high potency. No, it's for my retirement home up in Spring Creek, Nevada, which is just south of Elko. We have 38 acres on a lake. And yes, there will be a repeater there. This 400amp panel is just the beginning. I got a well put in a couple months ago, trying to get some grading, bunch of heavy earthwork done. Need to move about 1050 cubic yards of soil and build a small road, stuff like that. So I've been trying to get people to do work and it's a. Well the area, gold mining is a big industry there. And so when gold, the price of gold is up, nobody's got time to do small jobs. Going my shop, you know, why move? Why build a road when you can take a mine, you know, anyway, it's just hard to find people that do
Speaker B: work, you know, or if you can,
Speaker A: you know, reasonable prices and so forth. So we're having to kind of like it's just a slow go. It's really frustrating. I'm going up to meet the, the rural power cooperative guy. It's a non profit customer utility that I'll be getting involved with. So hopefully they're going to be putting in polls this week. We'll see. They may the way out. You know, I wouldn't doubt it if they send their crews back to Mississippi to deal with an ice storm. I get up there and they're not there or something. I'm trying to get power since August. It's kind of frustrating, but whatever. I think God's teaching me patience. It's 7 KHJ from NR7G. How's that fatal over there?
Speaker C: Well, I build off on rainbows kind of back job pretty good. So I didn't see anything. But all I know is there was a fatal and you know, that goes. It'll be shut down for a few hours. So anyway I'm just about to the big house slash work. So good hearing you guys this morning. And everybody be careful out there.
Speaker B: Seven 3 and 7K mobile. Hey, John.
Speaker A: Go ahead Ken. And I'm gonna. This will be my final. Take it away. Starting to lose repeater over here west of Apex. North of Apex,
Speaker B: yeah. Okay. Hey, are you aware of the ELCO repeater group over there? I know the call sign for the club is something ELCO like W7LKO or something. Anyways, they've got a great repeater system over there that goes all the way through Wells, even up into jackpot covers. Winnemecca, of course, Battle Mountain, they got a great repeater. And if you need any help at all making an SD card for a raspberry PI, you let me know. You can get your repeater on Altar. In fact, I'm going to look up the Elko group and I'm going to. They even have All Star now I know they. They talked about not wanting it, but I think somebody may have decided to put All Star on their system over there. Just FYI.
Speaker A: Okay, yeah, I copied most out. I'm starting to lose repeater here. I have a switch. I'm switching back between Angel High and Low and Red. I'm on high. Hope you hear me. Yeah, I got all that about the Elco club and yeah, when I get ready it's going to be another probably year and a half, but. So anyway, when I get ready, you'll be the man. I'll get SD card. We'll get up and running hooked into the network.
Speaker C: Anyway, 73.
Speaker A: Ken, I'm sure we'll talk again. Maybe I'll switch over Steven
Speaker B: or something.
Speaker A: Anyway, 73, take care and R7G mobile, north end of US 33.
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, you're starting to drop out. W7LK is the name of their group. Amateur radio club, WD7LKO. Okay, take care, and I'll be listening N6 kne down here in Chinatown. Columbia. I got to step away for a minute and I'll be right back in 6K and E.

Speaker B: Oh, I'm doing pretty well. I'm using the Highland Peak repeater up on your north part of Lincoln County, Nevada. I'm just probably halfway between Hico and Nevada right now. Northbound US 93 headed to Elko.
Speaker A: Roger, Highway 93. Elko, what kind of vehicle are you driving?
Speaker B: I am driving a super duty pickup truck. Diesel FC50, blue in color, older one 2011, so serving me well.
Speaker A: So 18 degrees here, kind of cold.
Speaker B: Skies are clear and it's a beautiful day.
Speaker A: Yeah, beautiful day. 18 degrees? You're kidding. Hey, I always think about you have backup communication, but duh, you got ham radio, man, that's going to save your life.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's good to know I got it because I got no cell service around the middle of kind of nowhere still right now. Not a lot of traffic here on the highway or every, maybe every couple minutes, you know, coming the other way or whatever. But nobody in front of me or behind me that I can see at this point. But good to know, you know. Good to know. I got coverage.
Speaker A: Oh yeah. Hey, I know you're commuting. I've got to leave here in a minute. But tell me, is there anything good going on in your life? Like, you know, some people might collect memorabilia and you know, they're really enjoying that. I play guitar. I call myself a musician, so that takes up a lot of time. What about you?
Speaker B: Over. Oh, I don't collect much, just
Speaker A: not
Speaker B: much of a collector or anything right now. I got a bunch of other. We're improving a property up north, putting in a big 400amp trigger, breaker panel I got in the back of my truck and a couple of crown rods and some number two copper bear, seven strand wire and strut clamp trigger breakers, stuff like that, you know. So I got a collection of electrical supplies in the truck, headed up north to meet a guy and he and I are gonna install it here hopefully tomorrow morning, zero dark thirty or something.
Speaker A: Wow, sounds like a busy day. Good time, you know, one day there's ever no traffic or anything like that on the radio here. I'd like to like to talk about grounding because you know the radio amateur, but that's like a really involved subject. So how about if we do that some other day?
Speaker B: Yeah, sounds good to me. So you going to headed to work right now or what? Are you doing?
Speaker A: My status is retired, and I can say retired educator from the Bay Area. But I never liked teaching. I don't know, it just seems like every. The administration didn't support you, you know, and here's the kids. Here's the kids, you know, tearing up the teachers, beating up the little guy, you know, the women. Nobody does anything about it. So I got out of teaching, but I certainly enjoy art and music. I have a website. I'm busy all the time. Model builder. I make an effort to keep busy over.
Speaker B: What kind of models do you build out of kits or just from scratch? Model cars, planes, boats. What kind of models? Oh, aha.
Speaker A: You know, a little bit about models, kids. Diorama, World War II Sherman tank. You know, army guys out there, you know, I had thought, oh, well, you're not a man. You're playing those kids toys. No, this is some serious work here. I see a lot of guys, they make dioramas of incidents like Civil War battles. Hey, if it keeps them happy.
Speaker B: Yeah, I remember back in the day, man, we built models, you know, 61, almost 61 here. So back, long time ago, we built models, tanks and jeeps and cars and things.
Speaker A: And we.
Speaker B: The glue wasn't even dry. We blow them up with firecrackers and then we ran out of firecrackers, we just burn them. All right.
Speaker A: Hey, you're my kind of kids. We used to do that and shoot them with the BB gun. But then my neighbor went nuts one day and shot up some windows. Guess who they came at after with the BB gun? Me.
Speaker B: So, yeah, those were the days, huh? I grew up in Southern California, so five cars are hard to come by. I got them in other places and brought them back home and, you know, blowing up everything. Those were. The glue wasn't even dry, man. We were blowing them up.
Speaker A: All right, maybe there's some kind of a need that you have, right, to see things flying in the air, big noises. I enjoy it myself. Well, you know, keeping busy. When people say, oh, yeah, I'm getting old, that really doesn't describe what happens.
Speaker B: Okay?
Speaker A: You need to take care of your mental health as well as your physical health. I know for me, diabetes came in and, you know, I kind of got a wake up call from that. So then you can't have a lot of sugar. Although don't tell anybody. When I get depressed, I crave Haagen Dazs ice cream.
Speaker B: Well, that's okay. I gotta pull off here for a minute. I'll be back in a couple minutes. I'm gonna use the potty. Here. Make a potty. I'll catch up with you and fix IWH nr. 17.
Speaker A: Now, everybody on the linking system knows that you've got to go to the bathroom. Okay, that's good. Real ham radio.
Speaker B: All right.
Speaker A: Hang in there. Yeah. I'm just sitting here looking at the clock.
Speaker B: Okay. Reminds me of a joke.
Speaker A: Guy takes a clock into the German clock maker. Something wrong. What? It'll go tick, but it won't go talk. Oh, we have ways to make them talk.
Speaker B: Okay, okay. I'm sorry. Wait.

I'm on now I'm on Nevada 318, the Hico highway and headed. Headed north, so. All right, man. Well, I don't have too much else to say, but you have fun playing that guitar and everything. We'll catch you maybe a little while later. How's that sound? Well, just learn how to enjoy playing the guitar and blowing things up. That sounds like a good life to me. Really? That way if I have issues with my power with my other radio or the antenna coming disconnected, I've always got a backup now.
