I was trying on the mobile one, but you probably weren't hearing me. Yeah, I heard you come through a couple of times, but apparently I wasn't getting out. Anyway, you in town yet?
Speaker A: Yeah, I made it back home.
Speaker B: Okay, well, I'll let you get on to important things and we'll talk to you later on K06DVV. Clear. Sounds good. KO6DBT. Clear.

Speaker A: KN6GTM43 work days left
Speaker B: counting right down. Can't beat that.
Speaker A: Definitely not. So well, how was your day? Well, it was a little hectic, but
Speaker B: pretty normal.
Speaker A: Well, okay, if that's your normal, then I guess that's okay.
Speaker B: I keep telling the boys that I don't see myself growing old under that kind of stress float but that's just every day we do it one day at a time.
Speaker A: True, true. So Ernie ever go anywhere across country using on the train?
Speaker B: I haven't and I heard, I heard you talking to Pete this morning about that and we're a little opposite. My wife would love to take the train across country but I've always been like let's hop in an airplane and get it over with. But there I, I would have a little interest. My interest would stem from. I'd like to see some of that back country from the railroad that you wouldn't see from the highway.
Speaker A: Yes, that's true, that's true. I was just sitting there thinking, you know, I, you know most part of the big, one of the big reasons for taking the airplane is because it doesn't take two and a half, three days to get there. And when you're burning vacation time that's important but when you don't have to worry about vacation time it's not quite as important. The only other thing is, you know, I guess you go on a train unless you get a sleeper of some sort of you're, you're going to be sleeping in your chair
Speaker B: and I, and I've never. Yeah, that's correct. And I've never been on the train to. When I've never went in and looked around. My father in law's just. My wife's parents came out this last fall and they brought the train from Kentucky on out here and they, they enjoyed it. One of my brother in laws came with them but they're up in age, in their 80s and they enjoyed it. They did not get a sleeper car. They slept in their seats but they said they reclined and it wasn't. They enjoyed it. They said it wasn't bad.
Speaker A: Yeah, okay. Yeah, I was kind of looking at the options. I could get a private room one way for $3,000.
Speaker B: Well that'd be one way to use the severance package they're going to give you when you, when you're gone.
Speaker A: They have what's called a roomette and it's like six and a half feet by three and a half feet and it's got two seats in it and they fold down the two berths and I think that's about all you got. You have to share the bathroom down the hallway, but, you know, I guess, you know, if you wanted some privacy, that's the way to do it. But I'm not sure whether you have to stay there all day long. You know, I'm sitting there thinking if you have to stay there all day long and you're in a three and a half by six foot room, I think that I might get a little claustrophobic with that.
Speaker B: Yeah, you probably would. But my in laws said that, you know, they could get up and go to the observation car and sit up there a couple hours and, you know, get up, look around and, and that it was pretty nice.
Speaker A: So.
Speaker B: Yeah, once you take the train in there and have this all figured out, you'll have to give us a report.
Speaker A: Yeah. Did you hear that? Did you hear my tale of my Greyhound bus trip across the state?
Speaker B: I heard part of it, yes, I did. And I think, you know, one of my boys bought a vehicle up in Oregon and they took the bus up to, you know, at an auction and to drive this vehicle home. And yeah, they, their report of that bus trip was similar to what I heard from you.
Speaker A: And if they only went to Oregon, I mean, I went to Chicago. I think we hit every bus stop that there was on the way. There was a bus stop that was just a stop on the side of the road with a, with a sign. That was it. That was the bus stop.
Speaker B: Well, they're not much different than that here in Oroville even. There's just a little sign in a parking lot. And. Yeah, that's. I, I was a little surprised too. I thought it's bit. A little, little crude.
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You ever watch the movie North Lane Northwest? You ever see that one with Cary Grant?
Speaker B: Negative.
Speaker A: Okay, well, he's, he's making his way across country. He's being chased and he has to, he has to stop my. Go out into the country to meet somebody. And he takes the bus out there and it stops at an intersection, you know, these two country roads, and there's a sign that says Greyhound on it. And that's all there was to it. Well, I saw a few of those.
Speaker B: Yeah. That, you know, probably shouldn't be talking about this over the air, but the class that you encounter when you take the Greyhound is a little different story than when you ride the airplane.
Speaker A: That's very true. That's very true. But, you know, hey, it was an experience I can have out to myself that I would never do that again. But at least I did it once.
Speaker B: Yeah, very good. Well, we're pulling into our driveway here, so I'll say 73. You have a good evening. Sure has been beautiful up here the last while. Just every day clear sunshine and great. So you have a good evening. We'll chat with you later. KN6GTN all right, Ernie, nice to Nice

Well, it sounds good. Yeah. I'm gonna do some audio testing down in bottom of the hill, make sure the audio quality is good, and we should be set. And you can see it over the IP address, correct? Yeah, yeah, that's all good. So supermom works, and then cockpit dashboard stuff works. And I dialed in, so that that part works, too, so we should be good to go. Awesome. Well, that's a good day's work. And we got some cameras up and an SDR receiver.
It. Yep. We're on the way down the hill. Got a.

Speaker A: W6grc.w6lnd. How's it going tonight, Jeremy?
Speaker B: Going pretty good. Sounds pretty decent.
Speaker A: But it had a little flip here
Speaker B: a few minutes ago.
Speaker A: You're talking about the interference that was there. That was because somebody logged in remotely. And then after three minutes they kicked them out.
Speaker B: I didn't know because it sounded like it was in a closed loop.
Speaker A: Now, somebody logged into it. We heard them fire up the All Star and then it. It did the three minute timer and kicked them out.
Speaker B: They're not active. It kicks them out after three minutes.
Speaker A: Yeah, if there's three minutes of solid audio.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: Yeah, that makes sense. Well, that's good.
Speaker B: Yeah, I've been able to log into it with both my note at home and my phone.
Speaker A: Yeah, I think Jim logged into it that way as well. So that's great. We just have to keep monitoring it. Somebody messes around with it, we'll lock her down.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, sounds pretty good. Sounds like everything went real smooth, huh? Are you home?
Speaker A: I'm just coming off the mountain. We left at 5 from the site since it got dark. Okay, We're on three. Thirteen. Probably another, I don't know, 10 minutes to get off the mountain.
Speaker B: Okay, well, it's sounding good down here,
Speaker A: so I think you helped it. Yeah, the great part is, is that we can log into the computer and adjust everything from the comfort of our couch.
Speaker B: Not as many. Not as many site visits needed, huh?
Speaker A: Yeah, that's the key, right? We can do. We can get into the repeater and we can get into the All Star node. So it's definitely the camera. Did you check the cameras out?
Speaker B: No, I'll log in and look.
Speaker A: That part's pretty impressive.
Speaker B: Okay, well, I will log in.
Speaker A: Oh, wow.
Speaker B: You got a camera right on your rack.
Speaker A: That's right. She's got a big wreck.
Speaker B: Absolutely. Well, that's a nice view looking down.
Speaker C: K9. K a d visitor.
Speaker A: Hello, visitor. Hey.
Speaker C: Thank you. This is K9 Kilo Alpha Delta, Southern Shasta County. I'm just doing a radio check. I have a 50 watt base station rooftop antenna. You guys are coming in loud and clear. And how was my signal?
Speaker A: You sound good to me. I'm mobiling down the mountain right now, but you're sounding good. W6GRC. Copy that.
Speaker C: I show that I'm at 147,705. Is that your Elk Creek Repe confirmed?
Speaker A: Yep, that is correct. Copy that. I'm a new operator. Just going around with my equipment and
Speaker C: seeing how everything's working. And I'm glad to hear. I'm getting down to Elk Creek and I think you said on. You're on 113.
Speaker A: Where's that about? It's actually County Road 313. It's up in the Mendocino National Forest. Where the repeater is located. Affirmative.
Speaker C: Okay, I was confusing it with another road, I think down by woodland. All right, I'll look you up on the map. And until then, thank you for confirming. Coming to 73 and clear and just monitor. Thank you. K9K A D. Yeah.
Speaker A: Have a good weekend. W6grc.
W6grc, w6l and d. Going pretty good. It's pretty decent. But it had a little flip here a few minutes ago. I didn't know because it sounded like it was in a closed loop. They're not active. It kicks them out after free.
Yeah, sounds like everything. Are you home? Sounding good down here. I think you have to.
Speaker A: Not as many. Not as many site visits needed. Now
Speaker B: lock in and
Speaker A: lock. Okay, well, I
Speaker B: will log in. Oh, hi. You got a camera right on your rack?
Speaker A: Absolutely. Well, that's a nice view looking down.
W6grc.kf6 Obi. Hello, Mike? Yes. I guess you're going to have to go in and give me access to a new site under site manager for the ubiquity. Yep. Yeah, we'll have to add your email to the. To the chain. Let's get home and I'll do it this evening, okay? No rush. Just get back safely, okay? Yep, no problem. We ran the laptop battery dead today doing camera adjusting, so we just made it down to the valley floor on 3 13. Roger that. Kf6obi is clear.

W6grc 162. W6grc w6lnd. How are we sounding? You sound pretty good. We were hoping that we got some audio going through it as we were coming down 162 so we could hear over there by the racetrack, but fairly quiet out there. There's just no activity on 2 meter anymore. Sounds that way huh? Crazy. That's why we have the All Star nodes to get the coffee net going in. I had mine scanning earlier and there's just no activity. I was a little bit on sutter buttes, but other than that the activity levels are just almost none.
Speaker A: W6grc.w6lnd.

We had a two car that I was helping out with, so I was not in the truck. Okay, very good. I only had. My only problem was I don't. I didn't use the latest roster or whatever you sent out last. I didn't have that downloaded. So all I had was my paperwork from last time. So I'll have to get. I'll have to be a little better prepared.
Good evening. The time is 7:03pm.
Speaker A: Ke6jds ke6jds w6lnd how are you, mark? Hanging in there, Jeremy. Just kind of busy running around here with my head cut off. I'll show you. New cap the other day and the caps are so small that I gotta cow. I gotta do that twice a day. Go ahead. Okay.
Speaker B: All sounds about normal. At least the weather's nice.
Speaker A: The weather is beautiful. So a little chilly in the morning and not too hot in the afternoon, so can't really complain. But everything's going pretty good here. What have you been up to?
Speaker B: Just hanging out. Been working in the. Gary went up and installed the new repeater today.
Speaker A: Well, good. Yeah, I. I kind of wanted to go and then I got caught up with all this stuff around here and a butcher chicken too. So. Yeah, just busy. Too busy. Why? How does the guy get so busy?
Speaker B: Because you. You got too many things going on. So retirement. You're busier than when you are working.
Speaker A: Well, yeah, if I could have worked some fishing in. In the middle of the day. But that didn't happen either.
Speaker B: Not with cows and cows having calves and killing chickens.
Speaker A: Well, let alone dishes. Well, it sounds good. Sounds nice and clear and it's got some little tones and stuff. Give you a little difference, which is good.
Speaker B: So that's the All Star courtesy tone. All Star is the repeater controller on this project.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker C: What.
Speaker A: So which I don't know anything about. So is it broadcasting statewide or is it just still local?
Speaker B: It's local, but now it's able to be connected with other repeaters via the Internet.
Speaker A: Very interesting though that would be handy for different things.
Speaker B: Well, 7:30 in the morning, it's going to connect to W6ek out of Auburn and it will have traffic on it for two and a half to three hours solid.
Speaker A: Well, maybe get some activity going. At least people can listen to something besides, you know, just nothing.
Speaker B: So it'll have two and a half to three hours of a morning net. They call it the coffee break net. So I encourage you to listen in and then I think Gary's going to connect it to some other things as well as time moves on.
Speaker A: All right, then if you have a comment or something like that, you just kind of break in.
Speaker B: So you should be able to join in on their net. Just call in. However their protocol is, you should be able to join in and do a check in if you so desire.
Speaker A: Oh, good.
Speaker B: I think the goal is to try and get it a little busy.
Speaker A: All right, Well, something's got to happen. It's been very, very Quiet.
Speaker B: I was telling Gary or somebody earlier I was scanning two meters and there was no traffic anywhere. Mass scanning repeaters from like. Well, I took the Redding one out. It's got a lot of activity, but scanning everything here in the area with the exception being Sutter Buttes, having some activity.
Speaker A: Okay, well, I thought that I had Sutter beach in here. Maybe I don't in the program, but I haven't heard anybody on for quite a while.
Speaker B: I think there's a net going on on Sutter Buttes right now and then there's a simplex net in 20 minutes on five. Okay.
Speaker A: Really good. Yeah, you know, I don't know. Early to bed, early to rise.
Speaker B: Well, it doesn't want you to do much radio though.
Speaker A: Well, when I wake up for my drink of water at 2 in the morning, I guess I could get on there and wake everybody up.
Speaker B: Well, I'll be sawing logs with no radios on. I turn mine off at night.
Speaker A: Wake gary up. So I can try that.
Speaker B: There you go. He might still be up.
Speaker A: I don't think he sleeps.
Speaker B: Not very much anyhow.
Speaker A: All right, well, I'm gonna bug out and try to check in. Sounds good, program there. Have a good evening and don't overdo it. Let's see what else. How were you doing on the. On the 1200 stuff? Did you need to check anything out?
Speaker B: I have not even started on that project, Mark.
Speaker A: All right, well, I got stuff here if you need to. You want to check bead line out or check your feed line walks or whatever. I got all the equipment here if you need it. All right, catch you later.
Speaker B: All right, Mark, thanks. I'm sure I'm going to take you up on some of that. 73 from W6LND.
Speaker C: Very, very nice sounding. All star node. Wb1g.
Speaker B: Wb1g, w6lnd. Well, I'm coming in vrf to the repeater on red mountain.
Speaker C: Yes, I know. In fact, I can hear Red Mountain at about an S5 S6 right now on the 9700. And then of course I'm coming in ASL. But yeah, really sounding quite nice. Connected from the controller in Auburn briefly, just to see how it came through. It didn't come through the repeater network, but I think it's going to be a nice, nice merge of the two and help you guys get some more activity up there.
Speaker B: I can tell you we need it. The repeaters around here are completely dead.
Speaker C: Well, it'll be fun and it'll give people something to listen to and perhaps give A net to check into. Yeah, it's a fun net too. It's pretty light hearted. And it's not all about radio too. So you know, we could talk about working, working the land too there my friend. I gotta remind everybody. Hey, don't forget man, we got those, those working guys up north. Those real hard working guys.
Speaker B: Yeah, well today I was a mechanic. Right. That's the nice thing about what I do. You wear a different hat.
Speaker C: Absolutely. Well, I heard you out here. I don't normally get to hear. Well unless you're on 36 local on this repeater I don't ever hear you very clear. And I've got one of these new shark M1kes. I don't know if you've heard about these, the shark mic and pretty clever, a lot of fun. But talking into one of those radio less directly into asl. So awesome. Man, things are sounding good down here. Excited to hear and or rather to see if anybody checks in from up there tomorrow.
Speaker B: Well, let's hope so. I guess I'm have to take my, take my little HT with me tomorrow so I can check in if I can give it a try. The repeaters at 50 watts at like 3100ft or 3400ft. So with the antenna I think it's like about 100 watts.
Speaker C: Well it sounds the best that it's. That it sounded down here in a really long time. In fact, I'm going to switch over to RF for a second. I just want to see how 10 watts makes it back. There might be an echo because I've got the mic on right now so I'll hear how it sounds through all star. Stand by, WBwing. All right, 10 watts. 10 watts RF. Oh yeah, it's damn good.
Speaker B: Your audio is a lot hotter via the All Star. So it sounded like maybe you're a bit over modulated.
Speaker C: You're saying on RF I was over modulated? It's quite possible that I am right now. I will take a look.
Speaker B: No, I'm on your allstar.
Speaker C: Oh that wouldn't surprise me. When you see what I was talking into, you'll. It'll make sense. But yeah, this is 10 watts. I'm going to bring it down a little bit less and just check his receiver set sensitivity. This is five watts. I'm listening. I got a little. I know there's an echo in the background.
Speaker A: That's me listening.
Speaker C: Just a little bit of hiss man, but not bad at all. It's it, it's hearing me great. I'M just gonna go down to one to see what we get. Okay, this is one watt. One watt from Rockland, California. I'm still listening.
Speaker B: Sorry.
Speaker C: I know I'm holding the machine but I don't think anyone's going to get the too mad at me. This is 250 milliwatts. 250 milliwatts from Rockland, California.
Speaker A: Oh yeah.
Speaker C: This here is far better than it ever did the previous machine up there.
Speaker A: Wow.
Speaker B: That's because it was a yaesu. Right now this is one watt from my qth.
Speaker C: Not that I would ever run this way, but this is 100 watts so I'm guessing I'm full quiety.
Speaker B: 100 watts from my QTH, Smitty.
Speaker C: Oh, I forgot, you've got a 9,700 now. So we're whipping, we're pulling our swords out. I got it. All right, well congratulations to Gary, to you and everybody else for getting that online. Boy, that's going to be super versatile. Going to make it easier for folks to check in and you know, build some more activity on that, on that system up there. It sounds like he's got a pretty good system on the air, so. Excellent. All right, brother, it's good hearing you, man. I'm going to control on EK tonight, which starts at about 10 minutes, so I'm going to get my stuff together and I'll catch you a little later. 73 WB1 Ginny, good to hear from you.
Speaker B: Glad you're able to get into this again. That's a big difference from what it was. We'll say it's because it's not yaesu, right? 73W6LND
Speaker C: yes, definitely not.
Speaker A: Yea, screw.
Speaker C: I mean yaesu. Sorry I slipped up. Wbwinge.
Ke6jds W F Excellent. How are you, mark?
Okay. Sounds about normal. At least the weather is nice.
Just hanging out. Been working in the. Installed the new repeater today.
Because you. You got too many things going on for retirement. You're busier than when you are working. Not with cows. Cows having calves and killing chickens.
Speaker A: So that's the All Star courtesy
Speaker B: tone. All Star is the repeater controller on this project.
Speaker A: It's local, but now it's able to be connected with other repeaters via the Internet. Well, 7:30 in the morning, it's going to connect to W6ek out of Auburn and it will have traffic on it for two and a half to three hours. College.
Speaker A: So it'll have two and a half to three hours of a morning net. They call it the coffee break net. So I encourage you to listen in. And then I think Gary's gonna connect it to some other things as well. As
Speaker B: time moves. So you should be able to
Speaker A: join in on their net. Just call in. However their protocol is, you should be able to join in and do a check in
Speaker B: if you so desire. I think the goal is to try and get it. A little busy. All right. I was telling Gary or
Speaker A: somebody earlier I was scanning two meters and there was no traffic anywhere. Mess scanning repeaters from like. Well, I took the reading one out. It's got a lot of activity, but
Speaker B: scan
Speaker A: and everything here in the area, with the exception being Sutter Buce
Speaker B: having some activity.
Speaker A: You.
Speaker B: I think
Speaker A: there's a net going on
Speaker B: on Sutter Butte right now. And then there's
Speaker A: a
Speaker B: simplex net in 20 minutes on five, two. Well, it doesn't want you to do much radio, though. Well, I'll be sawing logs with no radios on. I turn mine off at night. There you go. He might still be up. Not very much anyhow.
I have not even started on that project, Mark.
Speaker A: All right, Mark, Thanks. I'm sure I'm going to take you up on some of that. 73 from
Speaker B: W6LND.
Speaker A: Wb1g.w6lnd. Well, I'm coming in. Vrf to the repeater on red mountain.
I can tell you we need it. The repeaters around here are completely dead.
Yeah, well, today I was a mechanic. Right? That's the nice thing about what I do. You wear a different hat, different day.
Well, let's hope so. I guess I'm gonna have to take my. Take my little HT with me tomorrow so I can check in if I can give it a try. The repeaters at 50 watts at, like 3100ft or 3400ft. So with the antenna, I think it's like, about a hundred watts.
Speaker A: Your audio
Speaker B: is a lot hotter via the All Star, so I did. It sounded like maybe you're a bit over modulated.
Speaker A: No, I meant on your all star.
100 watts from my QTH schmedi.
Smitty. Good to hear from you. Glad you're able to get into this again. That's a big difference from what it was. We'll say it's because 73W6LND.
It's.
W6 rhc repeater check 1.
D.
Speaker A: Well, you still did a good job and I really appreciate it, bud.
Speaker B: All right, thank you. And I'll. Take care of yourself out there tonight.
Speaker A: Yes, sir. Yeah, I'm gonna go home, throw some, some grub down the throat and take a shower and see if I can get some relaxation before I have to go out to the Bay Area tomorrow.
Speaker B: Boy, they send
Speaker A: you all over
Speaker B: town, don't they?
Speaker A: Yes, sir. Yeah, I've been. Well, last week I spent a couple days in Bakersfield and I was out in Wafayette. Then I was back out in Walnut Creek. And then tomorrow I'm going back out to Walnut Creek.
Speaker B: Do they fly you down to these areas or you just get up early and drive down there? Or how do you get from point A to point B all the time?
Speaker A: Well, normally I just take a company car if I'm going to be working more than one day, then I make them give me a hotel room. But I drive down there. Like when I did Bakersfield, I drove down there. That was only a one day deal. So I worked the 10 hour shift, took a nap, and then, you know, in the truck and then drove back that evening. And then out at Walnut Creek and Lafayette, they get me a hotel room because that's usually anywhere between two to three days that I'm out
Speaker B: there. Wow, you're getting some windshield time in the miles under your belt there.
Speaker A: Yes, sir. Yeah. And I've actually, I've been using my, my personal vehicle a lot, but they, they reimburse for mileage and all that. But I bought this truck February 8th of last year with 92, 000 miles and I'm already up to 110,600.
Speaker B: Yeah, it doesn't take long to add up. You start going to Bakersfield a couple times and back like, wow, that'll be. You'll get that odometer, turn it over. Yes,
Speaker A: sir. But good news is, is I actually, because of the issues I've been having with, with radios, I've actually got two, two meters in my truck now. So I, I'm a little more prepared now.
Speaker B: Okay, that's good news.
Speaker A: Yes, sir. Yes, sir. So, but yeah, I just wanted to thank you for taking the net. I didn't mean for it to drop in anybody's lap. I was actually going to be home no later than 1830, but then that all happened. So. Fun times.
Speaker B: Oh yeah. You learned to roll with the punches. All right, well, you have a good evening. We'll chat with you later. Okay. On 6. GTM sounds good. And 7 3. You have yourself a good night. And 60 N.
Well, Evening, Jim. This is Tom, W6JS. I was just getting ready to give you a call. I'll be hanging around. I lowered it down to half power. Are you still receiving me strong? And my signal? Because I don't know, it's my. It seems like I'm getting FM over my radio and I don't know how to stop it. And I have an FM switch and it isn't taking it out. How is my signal? This is Tom, W6JS.
Speaker A: W
Speaker B: e6a x n repeater.
KC USD bill and cape and check me in, put me on a list. I have.
Well, good evening, everybody. Kn6mgk I'll be with you.
Speaker A: Well, thank you, Jim, and thank you for
Speaker B: the gentleman. All of them giving me a signal report because I was thinking my radio was going on the fritz and I don't need to buy another one right now. As far as ham radio stuff, I tried to solder. I can't solder because my shaking too much and I'm trying to fix a Christmas decoration still here almost in the February with Christmas decorations putting away and fixing them, but that's all I got. Oh, ham testing. This Sunday at 2 o' clock at Elk Lodge, there's going to be a new, I call it the hamsters. It's the technician test coming in July, so and it's going to be tougher. So anybody out there who knows anybody that needs to get a license, now's the time to do it. That's all I got. This is Tom W. 6js. Thank you,
Speaker C: Jim, for doing that.
Well, let's see if we can keep that noise away. That was weird. W6GRC.
Ke6jds w6grc.
Speaker A: On the programming of that repeater are you using? Which pin are you using for receive? Is it the CTCSS pin or combination of both?
Speaker B: Great question. I have to look back to the paperwork that I got, but we can change it in the setting and on the repeater.
Speaker A: I'm actually going to change a setting here real quick, and then I'll have you test to make sure, because right now the repeater is looking for COR and pl. But if I go and I look at the states, the PL pins always got something on it, even when it's idle. So I'm wondering if that's what caused that loop, because I did see an error message in the logs that said the tone verify got turned off right about when the noise started. So I'm tracking that one down.
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. Way back in the day, I followed the instructions. The gentleman built the the cable for it. Pin goes into the back, but they can be electronically changed in the programming of the repeater.
Speaker C: All right, see if you can
Speaker A: key up and I can hear you.
Speaker B: W6 trc. I heard you.
Speaker C: Okay. I heard you fine.
Speaker B: Well, let's see if that fixes it.
Speaker A: Why are you skipping over me? I'm not. In and out. Kn6ngk. Well, you didn't miss me on the roll call, but you're missing me.
Speaker B: Yeah, Winterfield Day. That's what it was last weekend. Pretty nice, beautiful weather and I'll agree with Bob, definitely more fog than we're used to. I've lived in Chico since 1990, so yeah, we definitely have more fog than I'm used to having here. And I don't like it because I came from the Bay Area, so I agree with him. It's nice that sometimes I go up to paradise like I probably will be tomorrow and they'll be up out of the fog. But you know, honestly, today was not bad at all. Yep, a little bit of high level fog, but burned off pretty early and turned out to be a pretty beautiful day to be honest. So we can't complain this year about our weather so far. I actually think we need a little bit more rain if you. At least on the lower part of the watershed. Going over Lake Oroville today again, and I can see it's still down. So we could use another good storm in here for sure. Maybe we'll get one in February or perhaps March. Sometimes we get those late storms, but we could use a little bit more. But sure am ready for a little bit warmer temps too. Gardening stuff's coming up, so people might be getting ready to do some of that potatoes, that type of thing you can plant now. Anyway, back to him. Radio Winterfield Day. Went to Black Butte Lake and I sure wish Bob would have made it over there. I wanted to show him some stuff on mesh networks, but anyway, he didn't make it, so I missed him. Darn it. Me and Chris said over there we kind of teeved up. We're doing some CW on 15 meters and we made about 85 contacts. So that worked out pretty well. Got some DX into Puerto Rico, into Mexico and Canada. Tried to get this guy in Japan, but he just couldn't hear us back. So anyway, we tried to get a little bit of DX in there and we did have some fun times. So good time to test out equipment. We're in a field day, so I guess the next time we'll have a field day event we'll be in the heat. So enjoy everybody, have a good fun weekend and take care of yourselves. This is KM6NGK signing clear.
W e6a x n repeater.
Speaker A: Do
Speaker B: you
Speaker C: have the ability to change your PL on the fly, or are you using a Moto?
Speaker A: In about 20 minutes, I'll be able to. We're still on I5, head northbound. We're probably 10 minutes from Orland, and I gotta drop everybody off.
Speaker C: All right. I'm just curious if you change your PL and key up on a different one, if it still here, if it still hears you, but that'll be the ultimate test. But we'll let it run this way for a while and see how it goes.
Speaker B: I have
Speaker A: the PL turned on in the repeater settings for transmit side. I'm sorry, for input side, receive side. I can't change that on the fly. Does the. The node doesn't control that as well, does it?
Speaker C: So actually, the node has the ability to decode and encode Pl for you, which is kind of a neat feature. So it has that ability, but we're obviously not using it. So if it's hard coded in the repeater, then we should be fine.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's hard coded in the repeater.
Speaker A: So far, so good. The noise. Does the pin still say that it has a PL tone on. On it?
Speaker B: No, not anymore because I. I turned that input off. My guess is just it was unused and it thought that it was present, so. Yeah, no, it's not. Once you turn it off, it doesn't care about it anymore.
Speaker A: Perfect. Yeah, it was weird. We were trying to figure out what it was first. I thought somebody had hopped on to All Star on it and was just in a loop or something, but now that makes sense.
Speaker B: Yeah, we'll go over Superman. That's what I had up on my screen that showed me that it was local. So yeah, we'll go over Supermon and how to
Speaker A: control
Speaker B: all that.
Speaker A: All right, sounds great. The repeater does sound good here. A little bit louder. Of course, we're using a little bit more watt than what was up there before, a little bit different circuitry.
Speaker A: Sorry, my wife on a meeting. So I missed what you said.
Speaker B: The repeater sounds hotter, but we have obviously a new repeater there and a duplexer. So everything's changed out. So a little fresher. It's got about 30 watts more as well.
Speaker A: I thought I was listening to Jeremy talking to somebody and he was bringing it up on what, 250 milliwatts from Rockland, which. It's not bad at all.
Speaker B: That's great. Did a sweep of the antenna. It looked okay too. A little bit higher than I want, but work on that when it's warm outside.
Speaker A: And as far as audio goes, you're happy with the levels we got that.
Speaker B: So far, so good. The only part that I would need to change is the All Star is hot. So I know it's good to listen to the audio coming through the RF side of it. And those are changes that I can make inside the repeater itself.
Speaker A: Well, and we can make those changes through the. Through the node. So we have that ability to, you know, change the receiver setting or receiver levels and the transmitter levels too. So we can play with those.
Speaker B: All right, great. So we, we have some other toys up there that I'll call you and walk you through how to get into it so we can access the repeater itself. We have a del core up there plugged into it with a USB cord so we can get inside it, do any type of programming we need to do.
Speaker A: Oh, perfect. That's the way to do it.
Speaker B: Less trips to the mountaintop,
Speaker A: Right? Yeah. I was hoping that noise wasn't the beginning of an issue that would have to require another visit.
Speaker B: Well, we, we made sure everything was grounded properly today. So we spent about 30 minutes putting on ground lugs. Then we made sure everything had ferrite cables over the top of it. And we bought non Chinese cables through the ones the way that came with the Raspberry PI. It's funny, that stuff is such junk. So all the hums and buzzes that I heard in my house have gone away now that we've replaced all the cables out.
Speaker A: Yeah. And your signal coming back this way is pretty clean. Speaking of towers and grounding and whatnot,
Speaker B: I
Speaker A: had a meeting with your guy Ryan today.
Speaker B: Yeah, he's a great guy. We spend a lot of time together. Did he give. Just getting you a quote. Is that what he's doing?
Speaker A: Yeah, guys, they're. They're local sack guys are coming down on Tuesday to come do a site visit and kind of walk through where we want it and how we want cable. Cable being ran. I, I shot him an email yesterday and he was like, yeah, Gary gave me a heads up you were calling, so appreciate it. So thanks again for that reference.
Speaker B: Nah, he's the only guy I trust. Everything's done right. So he's done a bunch of work for us. He stacked that monopole we have really good with hard line, making sure it's terminated and sweeps everything, gives you the reports on it. How high are you going?
Speaker A: We're only going 60ft, You know, now we don't. We used to have a store and forward repeater that was. That took care of our paging in district, but our county made some simulcast upgrades to their VHF system, so that requirement went away. So we just went a little lower and the only antenna we have on it is the one for our station alerting, so it's perfect. But yeah, 60ft is what we're going with.
Speaker B: Okay, well how much gear are you going to hang on at? Just one antenna?
Speaker A: Yeah, we're gonna do a pair of VHF sticks and then I have an 800 MiG Yagi and I think that's about all we're putting on it.
Speaker B: Okay. You don't need anything big then you get away with maybe a heavy duty. Ron,
Speaker A: I think we're either getting quoted of round 45 or 65. So, yeah, it's nothing crazy anymore. Again, that big requirement of that storm Ford repeater, you know, once that went away, then our, a lot of our hype requirements went away too, because I think at one point we're looking at going 80ft, so. But yeah, it's exciting. I'm interested to chat with those guys on Tuesday.
Speaker B: Well, if you can afford it, go with the 65. That way you can hang more stuff on it later.
Speaker A: Absolutely. Yeah, I can see them wanting to sell some space later down the road on it. Hell, I might even, I might even buy space on it, put something on there.
Speaker B: I think cell phones want to be
Speaker A: up about 100ft though.
Speaker B: Right. So you might have to go a pinch higher.
Speaker A: Well, we were actually approached at one time. I think it was four or five years ago, I think it was. T Mobile approached us to put a tower at one of our other stations and the administration thought that they could squeeze a little more money out of them, and so they basically told us to take a hike.
Speaker B: Were they going to build it there on site?
Speaker A: I believe so. I think that, that they were just leasing the space from us, you know, the, the empty land. And they came to us with a dollar amount and they went back and said, well, no, I think, you know, we want more than this. And yeah, they took off. But they were going to do it all.
Speaker B: Yeah, that was a mistake because you could have hung gear on there and negotiated that and they would have let that happen. No problem there. And then you would had fiber to
Speaker A: it and then you would have had
Speaker B: a generator back up.
Speaker A: Right. And this station is only less than a mile from my house. It would have been perfect.
Speaker B: So, yeah, missed opportunity there.
Speaker A: At another one of our stations, we've got three. So we got our one primary and then two volunteer response stations. At our other volunteer response station, we had, we have a guy who runs a wireless ISP who set a pole. It's a wooden pole, probably about the same height as your guys. Monopole, maybe a little shorter. So we have an agreement with that
Speaker B: guy
Speaker A: and he just does all the work. And so that's a good opportunity there. But I don't know how viable it is now that Wilton has fiber.
Speaker B: Man, you guys are lucky. We don't have fiber yet.
Speaker A: But getting close. So frontier, I guess. Now Verizon, I don't know if it was part of an agreement or whatnot, but they, they dropped it here quick. Within a year, they lit up Wilton. So I've got, I've got two gig fiber here at the house now, which is awesome. Unless a tweaker decides to climb a pole and cut a copper line, which is right next to the fiber line and knock you out for 23 hours.
Speaker B: What is the cost for that per month?
Speaker A: W6grc, K6JW. And I think I'm paying 79.99. These are 69.99 or 79.99, but it's not bad.
Speaker B: Now that's huge. We're paying that for wireless Internet service providers providing 200 up and 50 down.
Speaker A: Well, I'll tell you, my neighbor's putting his house up for sale and it's got fiber. So, you know, you could, you could come move south.
Speaker B: I think I'm like everybody else. If I move, it's going to be out of the state. The tax ratio and the homeless ratio and the drug ratio is getting too high.
Speaker A: Agreed. I think that's kind of the boat
Speaker B: we're in as well.
Speaker A: Yeah. My neighbor bought a house in South Dakota and super excited. They've been here for 25 years, I think he said. And he's getting out for the same exact reason. So I'm hoping I get at least decent neighbors.
Speaker B: We have to have a major political Correction in our state for something to change. Hopefully that happens here. I'd like to see California save itself the best weather out of any state ever, especially through the valley. Here we get the four seasons and our winter's not too cold. Cold, but boy, taxation's crazy.
Speaker A: Our fuel is crazy.
Speaker B: I don't know if you saw the news today about Valero closing down at Benicia early.
Speaker A: Oh, no kidding. I knew they were, but wow, they must have pushed that up earlier. And then you've also got the Anheuser Busch factory in Fairfield.
Speaker B: The right foot.
Speaker A: They're closing too. Forget how many people are employed there, but that's huge for that area. But yeah, my dad retired from PG&E and he moved out quickly. And so he likes to. He likes to call me and rub it in my face that his gas is way cheaper than mine, his electric's way cheaper than mine. And yeah. So one of these days,
Speaker B: I have a question for you. So while we were talking, or while you were talking, the repeater did its automated on the hour update. Is there a way to have it to where it won't do that if somebody's talking until the ear is clear, or is that not a setting we can do?
Speaker A: I'm. I'm glad you actually mentioned that to me because I was curious what would happen. So did it wipe me out completely and play the audio over me or did I mute. Did my volume lower and then it played louder than me?
Speaker B: No, your audio was fully legible and it muted itself back and it was barely hearable, but it still doubled.
Speaker A: Okay, perfect. Yes, there is a setting.
Speaker B: Actually, there's.
Speaker A: In my script, there's probably a way that I can. I just have to go look up how to do it, but I can probe. I can probe the CoS and PTT states and then if either one is active, I can basically tell it to sleep and wait for clear air before it plays it. So. Perfect. So, yeah, I'll go check that and then implement that.
Speaker B: You are the best IT guy that I know this side of India.
Speaker A: So now the next thing is to figure out the auto patch thing.
Speaker B: Well, maybe now we can get it because I think you have a cleaner access to it, but we'll have to play with it and see.
Speaker A: See what we can do.
Speaker B: I'm going to be unloading the truck for a few minutes. I will circle back to you in a minute if you're going to be on W6TRC.
Speaker A: All right, sounds good. I'll be here. K6JW1.
Speaker A: Kn6gtn. I know you're not still around, but you might be. Are you out there? Ernie? Wa1ner. WA1NER085 Yuba City. Go ahead.
Speaker B: Can you hear me now?
Speaker A: Can hear you. Well, you couldn't hear me a little while ago. What's the matter? I can't hear you. I can hear you fine. Yeah, yeah, go ahead.
Speaker B: Know what? I don't know what you were trying to say, but it sure wasn't coming through
Speaker A: right now. It's not coming through?
Speaker B: No, I'm sorry. It's coming through loud and clear now, but when I was doing the net,
Speaker A: I was on the mobile. For some reason I have pushed a button and then probably knocked out my. My something. So, anyway, I didn't get any audio, but that was me. I tried to double click you, but it didn't work.
Speaker B: Okay, very good. Well, I figured it was you, but I had a nice clean carrier but no voice.
Speaker A: I was out messing with my radio one day and I probably reprogrammed it to not work. So, anyway, I was there, but I was sitting outside the Panda for dinner. My wife was in there getting dinner, sitting at the table. And I said, well, I'll sit and do the net real quick and then I'll come in. Well, that didn't work out.
Speaker B: Okay. I figured maybe you just had your mouth full. You were busy eating.
Speaker A: I was wanting to get in there where I could. I was gonna go in the restaurant and eat, and she was sitting there by the window where I could see her, so. But it didn't work out so great. And I told her, I said, well, I'll just have to go home and get on the radio and see if Ernie's still by the radio. What do you want? Are you on a ht?
Speaker B: I am. How could you tell
Speaker A: a chirp in there? A squeaker beaker.
Speaker B: Well, it's an old repurposed radio for public safety. I need to get in there and turn that little squeaker beeper off. I didn't think. Thank you for telling me. I didn't realize it was on there.
Speaker A: It doesn't hurt nothing unless we know you're keying up. Some folks need that kind of stuff.
Speaker B: Yeah, okay. Well, I won't. I'll try not to let it interfere with anything. But, yeah, I'll. I got you marked in as present. And thanks for checking in.

That was the problem. That's why he was scratching. I may be a little better. I hope I am. N6GRG. I'm in the north part of California, the northern part of California.

I don't know if you've done that quite yet, but we have a website. Carla radio, Carla, Charlie Alpha, Romeo, Lima, Alpha, Carla. I hope I did that correctly. Charlie Alpha, Romeo, Lima, Alpha. That's Carla radio. All1Word.net November Echo, tango,
Speaker B: Carla radio noted. Copy that. Okay, I'll go through the website and I'll see more information about that. Time for this USO 73 maintaining from 3 Foxtrot Bravo Sierra returning. Final call, over.
Speaker A: Okay, and I'm on a very small Linko portable with a larger antenna. And I'm almost 75, 85 miles from the repeater. It's to my south N6GRG.
Speaker B: 73 for now. Have a good night. Over.
Speaker A: 73, you, you also. 73. Okay. Well, the problem isn't your power level, so the problem is not your power level. The problem is your audio. It's extremely weak. I would say that you might be using narrow instead of wide, but it's far weaker than that even it's very, very weak. So we can barely hear you at. I am using wise, but maybe I'm just not close enough to the microphone. That was a little better. Maybe one third of normal deviation. Normal audio level. It could be a lot better. Maybe that closeness plus if you were to switch it too wide, if it's in arrow might do the trick. I just got my technique. So I'm still getting, working with the mic and getting better sound out of it. Which kind of a radio is it? You also have a audio.
Speaker B: It's.
Speaker A: It's an end of, end of transmission audio thing going, which we usually on Carla, we don't usually do that, but it's not too bad. But it's almost louder than you are, so I'd say there's a microphone problem. But which radio is it? Okay. What I would recommend would be if you have a scanner or some other receiver that can pick up that radio, get off frequency on VHF and begin to test there may be a microphone gain setting in your menu. Check that out, see if you can figure something out because it's very weak. Trg, Good to talk to you. Kilo oscar mike bravo. Thank you.

Speaker A: Kilo Oscar 6 by Bravo India Talked to you earlier about my quiet audio around. I did make some changes in my radio settings and I'm hoping to change them for a little bit.
Speaker B: Yeah, last station I know doesn't sound like the person you talk to is still around, but I heard that conversation. I hear you now and you have improved things quite a bit. I would say. It still could stand to come up more, get a little bit more comparison, but what exactly did you end up doing there? This is November 6th. Mike Victor, tango, Ferrari.
Speaker A: Hello. I did change my gain settings on the input and my highest level and I'm getting a little bit closer to the mic than I was before. But this is a. It's a waterproof ht, so it's probably got some kind of membrane over the mic that kind of deadens it down.
Speaker B: Yep. More than likely a lot of us end up taking a needle and popping the membrane a little bit. Just get a little, little something in there that usually doesn't have much of any effect, you know, as far as water egress unless you're submerged in the thing. So something to think about. But you want to be careful too. Maybe take it apart and do it. But anyhow, definitely improved. But yeah, I would just choke up on that microphone when you're talking, hopefully become,
Speaker A: you
Speaker B: know, there's still a lower gain there that you've got. Sometimes there's a deviation setting and. Or, you know, like I mentioned before, a narrow, wide setting. So anyhow, but at least we can hear you this time. So good job on that. And the wood chip story coming in on, by the way,
Speaker A: That seriously. Copied my last, but whereabouts are you located? Okay. Copy, Sentimental. I'm over in the Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Lafayette area. So not, you know, all that far away from each other, but a little bit. And there's a little bit of noise on your signal, too, which, of course, you know, makes a difference. But with a handheld, that's to be expected. So, anyhow, definitely made an improvement there. And you can make more. It'd be even better. But at least now you're in the game, so that's a good thing.
Speaker B: Okay, thank you very much. I appreciate that. Hopefully get all these audio issues straightened out. Kilo, Oscar 6, Mike Bravo, India clear.
Speaker A: All right, have a good evening. Talk to you later. And six, MVT.

Speaker A: Yeah, it's been annoying me all night with that noise it's been making and stopping my scan. Heard you earlier, but then Smitty hopped on. I was gonna ask you a question, sir.
Speaker B: Yeah, what would that be?
Speaker A: Did your mother used to have her house cleaned by a Mexican lady named Johanna
Speaker B: Dozen? Impossible. But I don't remember.
Speaker A: Yeah, I met this guy's mother. He was asking me who I knew in courting and that. Or, you know, all the other areas in that, and you came up. I was like. He's like, I think I recognize the Finch name. And he says, mom, he thinks used to clean house for your mother.
Speaker B: Okay, well, it's possible. Long ago.
Speaker A: Yeah, he said it was a long time ago, but. Yeah. This repeater's doing that weird thing where after I get done with it talking and I unkey, it, like, has a something else coming through. Is that something else on frequency? A different repeater somewhere?
Speaker B: I don't have any idea on that. Has a. Has a tone now because it's all star.
Speaker A: No, I didn't mean the beep. It's like, when I unkey, I hear someone talking for just, like, a quarter of a second.
Speaker B: That's possible. I'm gonna kick this thing up to 100 watts. I'm only at 5 watts. All right, Now I'm at 100 watts.
Speaker A: You sounded good to me before. How do I sound?
Speaker B: You have a little static. Greg's hitting a pre. Are you using ht, Gary?
Speaker A: Yep, I'm using an ht.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: That's the issue. It sounds good here on my side. I'm listening to another speaker in the other room.
Speaker B: Are you hearing anything in it? Just a little bit of fuzz, but it's probably the ht. I. Maybe Greg can say what he's hearing.
Speaker A: Yeah, it sounds like it's probably just HG being low power. Because once you cranked up your power, you came in crystal clear.
Speaker B: Yeah, I kind of figured that I cranked the 90700 up to 100 watts.
Speaker A: All right, let's see what she does.
Speaker B: We'll find out tomorrow.
Speaker A: W6GRC.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, it'll be noisy tomorrow, won't it?
Speaker A: Absolutely. What is tomorrow, like a 2 meter? Well, no, it's a repeater. I guess it wouldn't be a contest.
Speaker B: The repeater is set to tune to certain frequencies with activity at certain points in the day. So I will have coffee break net from 7:30 to 10 in the morning and then I don't know what. He's got some amateur news lines and some other things that'll be coming up.
Speaker A: Well, they're going to do that amateur news broadcast over this repeater as well then.
Speaker B: Yeah, most repeaters now fully Internet connected.
Speaker A: Yeah, that's what I was hearing y' all say earlier, but. Well, that's cool. It's always kind of fun to listen to that little program.

Speaker B: It wasn't me. I heard you though. I'm good, I'm good, I'm good. Just checking some emails here before I get dressed and head to the office. So how you doing?
Speaker A: Very good. Since you're a. Since you're a working man. Happy Friday.
Speaker B: Yeah, family. I'm trying to make it a short day today. The guy that I. My main counterpart on the government side took the day off. He's going to Carson City to go there for the weekend. He's got a house up there that he's planning to retire to, so his wife lives up there. He lives in Vegas. We usually go there for the weekend. So I got some couple of meetings to do early in the morning and then I'm probably going to try to get out of there around maybe, I don't know, maybe maybe two or three in the afternoon.
Speaker A: All right. Nothing exciting going on down here. Looks like we're going to have some beautiful weather today. And I think I've committed myself to going out, getting the car cleaned up. It needs a good vacuuming after we bought those plants. A good cleaning of the windows. It doesn't need a bath yet, but I hate dirty windows. And there's a couple of little suspender dings and dents in it that were there when I bought it. I'm gonna work on cleaning those up a little bit. Yeah. So all good. That's.
Speaker B: That's kind of sort of my game
Speaker A: plan for the day. Very good.
Speaker B: Well, I'm going to probably tomorrow go ahead and mess with those CULP files on the server, play around, see what I can do that makes a difference now. Like I said, I always wish they. I just wish they were more allowed for more dynamic control. I just don't. I don't get why they don't do it. Probably no technical reason, maybe just nothing, just really thought of. But like I said, the RTCMs do it, but we don't have those on sites like here at the house. I'm just using a standard Linux box Linux computer to host this node and it doesn't allow for the passing of those tones. So it's a weird thing. But anyway, so I'm going to mess with those cold files and See if I can set up some pseudo macros.
Speaker A: Okay. In my research this morning, I found that. This looks like just an AI response to my question. It's telling me that the duplex or the node at the site plugged into a contour. That duplex needs to be sitting at 2 in order to pass tones. So I thought I would try that. I guess if I set that at 2, the duplex set the duplex equals 2, which is currently at 1. And I may need to go in and set the link. Link to what it's at now. Right now it's sitting at link. So I don't know if I have to change the link to link to no, since I'm changing the duplex to two. So I'm gonna. I'm gonna play around with that. With the vacancy. The back. I said the only one that I currently have supermon access to. The other. The other ones just don't have any ports opened up yet.
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, let me know how that goes. I think I set the clear RPT at Angel because we have a clear RPT node up there also for, you know that height of the. The bed pipe configuration back before you guys got everything fixed. I think when I said that to do start talking to itself because the controller ports are set for duplex the. On the RLC3. So.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: Okay. Anyways. All right man. So I gotta. I gotta get going there. So I'd say good morning. I go get dressed and get the
Speaker A: heck out of here.

Good morning, kn6ngk. Hey, what's going on?
Speaker A: So. Yeah. So what's the prognosis? Oh, figured it'd be kind of like JS8.
Speaker B: Yeah. So something like that, you know, JS8, this is, they haven't
Speaker A: developed it ever since about 2002. Nope, no one did. Yeah, part of the hobby that's going
Speaker B: away. Just like Aries and all that kind of stuff. Part of the, that wing of ham radio.
Speaker A: It's see you later, bye, bye. Pretty much, Yeah. Which brings me to the point is that we need to,
Speaker B: this is personal opinion that people in this community, whether it's, you know, Butte county, but even specifically group up in Paradise Magalia people that are at wildfire risk need to come up with an emergency action plan. So, like how some of us could volunteer or something and put together some sort of communications around town and so forth in the case of an emergency.
Okay. How do you look into something? We just do it, right? Like we're gonna be sitting there on later on today, I hope, and having a cup of coffee or whatever. We just come up with a plan. There's nobody else gonna do it, so, yeah, we just gotta say, okay, in case of an emergency, we do this, you know?
Yeah, well, just like a fast deploy, you know, I think that's great already. The location in Magalia is a great spot, you know, and then have an alternative spot, you know, that's all like that could be right there in the corner of Neil Road or whatever. But there might even need to be another one off the fence road, you know, come up with a plan when we quick deploy admitted early. I could tell you this right now. Last fire, I mean like at&t, they came up to Martine's property right next to town hall. They set down a trailer for communications and no ask, that was what they did. They just brought it there and dumped it off, set it up and started working. So in the case of emergency, that's what you do, right? But maybe with a 10 by 10 canopy or whatever, you just pop it out there, you start, you know, maybe we have a sign or whatever, you know, communications or something. So people, they needed, they needed, you know, help or something like that. You have two or three of those around paradise or something. I don't know. Just a thought. But yeah, yeah, you worry about the logistics later. And that's exactly what AT&T did. And so after, you know, six or eight weeks or so, he started contacting Bartin about his property because they found out who owned the property and so forth. And then we had about one year's worth of negotiations to get a lease done, so we finally got that done and then they had to give him all that back pay.
Well, you'd have to find someone who was resistant. I mean, just like people who were accepting PGE's offers right away. They would offer you, like, $1,000 for access to your property, to put in an easement for some of their equipment, for underground. Well, the whole town of paradise was going to do it no matter what. So they knew they had the ability to do that to. Some people just accepted it, but others didn't. Like we didn't and didn't accept it right away. And, you know, you fight for three, four months, whatever it takes, and then they go from 1,000 to 10,000 pretty quick.
Well, maybe someone else will come along with another version, you know, Never know. Anyway. Yeah, anyway. So you'll see that people like during these latest storms, going back to the Middle east, east coast, there, you know, the little small ham clubs are what people are listening to for information. So in some cases. So that's why it's important to have 70 centimeters, 2 meters running in communities. A lot of people have these little bofang radios, and in a time of need, they might want to access it or at least listen for these things. And of course, like the repeaters and stuff that the club has put together and everything are great resources in a time of need and emergency. Anyone can use them. Right. For FCC law, of course, KN6MGK.
Yeah, that's why I'm suggesting, like, an emergency action team or something. You know, you don't need much. Just like, a lot of us already carry stuff in our vehicles, so anyway. But, you know, in some cases, you know, I might not be able to get to, you know, get to paradise. You know, certain emergencies, just like campfire. I mean, traffic was going down, but nothing was allowed going up.
Well, I don't know. Yeah, sometimes. You know what? If you can't depend on repeaters for whatever reason, maybe you can for a short time. So practice your simplex. Vhf, uhf, that type of thing. Cross band repeat. Another good thing to learn. So lots of fun stuff. How about like winlinker sending emails, emails through HS and stuff like that too. Something I'd like to do this year. Practice, get, get into that a little bit. So. Yep. And you know, at Starlink Mini type of a thing, it's just another, another thing that's possible. You know, you get someone who's gonna fast deploy, you know, someplace to provide communications for our community. You know, figure that say just like a power outage and campfire. We've experienced that. Right. No Internet for a lot of people. So no power, no Internet. So it's just a resource where information can be gathered and disseminated. And having something like Starlink Mini is a good idea for somebody. May not be for me or whatever and not for a club essentially, but just somebody. So been trying to try to get Pat involved in it. I don't know. But the problem with borrowing someone that belongs to a club member or even a friend or whatever is that takes it away from them and that's not something that they're going to want to do in a time of emergency. They're going to want any information that they can get, Internet wise and so forth. It's the way a lot of people communicate these days. KN6MGK.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, I'm still working on cw. I ordered another key the other day. Don't expect to get it until maybe first part of next week. Practicing with that some more. And try to just develop those skills a little bit better this year. That would be nice. And then a few of these other things, like I want to be able to do fl Digi and Windlink. So those two things are on my bucket list. And it really didn't attack those at all last year. So that would be good for this year. Other than that, the normal things. Working up in paradise at the property, working here around my house, finishing up my paint job, things like that. I've got quite a
Speaker B: bit of things on my plate already. No, I don't think so. Yeah,
Speaker A: I think I need a pad or something like that too. Yeah, Really? I get my. I lose my focus real easy. That's the problem. Huh? Like, hey, we've been messing around with this mesh stuff for about couple months now, and now I don't even have a note at home anymore. So here I
Speaker B: am going to work back on that again. I don't even have a.
Speaker A: Like, we've been working on the mesh stuff for a couple of months, right? Mesh, that's taking up a lot of my time, the extra time. And I don't even have a node at home anymore. So something else I need to work on at some point.
Speaker A: No, that's why I freely gave it up for the club there. But it was working to the extent of, you know, I could get over to a little bit shy of Highway 32 and a little bit shy of the Esplanade as far as I could get. You know, then when that guy comes in or like the BSR1 node, then I could start hearing stuff from around the bay Mesh system. But I could never seem to really get out too often. Maybe 10% of the time my message might get out to someone like Dan or something like that. The other day I think I made mention of it maybe just on the mesh network when I got over to Panera. But Dennis, Dennis, I was able to hear his transmission into the farther Butte Sar or whatever. Somehow it got diverted to where I could hear it here at home. But I sent a message back out and I don't think it went anywhere other than around here, you know, I
Speaker B: mean, the half
Speaker A: mile around here maybe, but that was it. So if that's. That part of the communication is broken
Speaker B: on the south, no, the north part of town, Like. Did you get any of my messages yesterday I sent to you? Yes,
Speaker A: I did. I sent a couple of direct messages and. Yeah, that's my point though. See, especially when you're running three or four channels, it's going to be hard to keep track of all that stuff. You know, you might be getting a little ping on your phone or whatever, but you might think that's just a regular, regular voice message or some other message, some social media platforms or whatever. Now people are using their phones for
Speaker B: so much things
Speaker A: these days.
Speaker B: So
Speaker A: many emails and all these applications. Like I hear about one called Signal. Now of course, X, you got Facebook. I mean, so many things people are using their phones for. It's getting kind of ridiculous.
Yeah. So if someone else creates a new name like I did, that doesn't have my call in it at all, you don't pay no attention to it. So now a friend can't talk to you?
Speaker A: Yeah,
Speaker B: that's something we should talk about. That's a good idea. Anyway, I mean, so a person knows that like yesterday I was sitting in Panera. I know. I know for a fact that you were already. I was just getting ready to leave, but you were already over at the place where you go on Thursdays. And you know, I'm sure I was able to reach you with a direct message or whatever, but for whatever reason it didn't go through or you didn't hear it or maybe I did send it on medium fast. I'll have to look to see. Can't remember. So anyway, and I was originally having problems getting anything through. I had to delete your node completely and then rediscovered it pretty quick. Then finally I got the check mark that it went through. So that's something else that happens quite often too. But other interesting little devices, but they're a little finicky still. And see how the communications aren't that consistent and repetitive. I think that my node that was on my roof is doing a way better job right now than it was sitting on my roof.
Speaker A: Can 6 MGK? Yeah. No, I don't think so. Not right now. Yep,
Speaker B: I'll need to redo all that. Yeah. On this computer I never. I don't think I ever put it on. So yeah, I'll have to redo all that stuff, but I'll double check. And before I had nothing but troubles trying to get it going. So all the special stupid drivers and that she had to put in and that you had to put in and all this goofy stuff with Windows you don't have to do that with Linux. And Fldigi came right up on Linux, no problem. So one thing I don't understand about Windows people, they like goofing around with all that stuff.
Sa. Yeah. How you doing? It looks like you're. You're bringing up six. Goodness. System six. You're not on 16, right? What system are you cleaning up? Air can. I don't know. It's the. Was it the PL1? 173, 163, something like that, rather than 1 2. Okay. Sorry about all the noises. Just doing some testing here. How you doing? I have a question. Are you from la? Orange County. I was born and raised there in the city of La Habra. Did anybody ever call you a vato? I've been called a lot of things by a lot of. A lot of bad people. I grew up in Riverside, Valentine, Arizona, outside of California. But LA is cool people. You know, we bad rap la. But, you know, there's a lot of interesting stuff, nice people. Yeah, you say so. I never said I was from Los Angeles. I just always tried to avoid saying that. And I wasn't preppy, so I was just. I always said I was from Orange County. I don't know. Just. Yeah. Anyways, what's going on with you? Well, speaking of, I go for a walk in the morning out front here, you know. Oh, keeping active. A couple of Mexican guys in a truck slowed down and yell, hey, hurry up, vato. I said, what? Hurry up. You hurry up. Under the plan. Well, if that's all that happened to you, you're probably doing pretty okay. There's certainly worse things that could have happened. Oh, yeah? Well, my neighbor got his back window shot out. Wait, wait, what? Hello, this is Chico. Well, believe me when I tell you, nowadays, just Chica is nothing. Nothing compared to Los Angeles. You know, I was. I went to school, became an educator in east la. You know, this is some time back. They were offering huge amounts of money for teachers to come to East Los Angeles. Because the reality is that the bangers ran the school. All right, give me a second. Looks like I've got things hung up here. Now. Put them back where they were. Hang on a second. Well, I'm hanging on, but I'm thinking about making more coffee. You know, I'm just a slave to my senses, trying to cut back. Usually I drink a pot of coffee per day. I'm pretending that I'm in the submarine service, so I'm making a smaller amount. But now my name is Jones. Hello, Mr. Jones. Are you craving some coffee? Why, yes, that would be nice. Warm, smooth. Well, I'm not sure what was hung up there, but with anything, I did. All right, well, I gotta get back to what I'm doing. I don't want to tire the system up. You may hear some funky stuff come over. Come over the system here. Trying to just me trying to figure out some stuff n6 kne. Hey, well wait before you go. You have your own if you purchase. I think I understood the question. No, I just use all star stuff here. Roger73, good looking the contest and six side overview. Hey, I can go out and look for my vanqu buddies. Maybe they're out there yell at each other.
Yeah, well, the thing about it is it's something like kind of like a JS8, you know, where you can keyboard your keyboard, talk digital. That gets through when other things don't. So you don't really have to know all the modes just to know the generality and know that it works. But that's all like PSK 31, that's one of the modes people use.
Yeah. I don't know. Ham Radio Deluxe. I think maybe it's the top tier of ham radio. Operators use it worldwide, but it's a very low percentile, I bet you, compared to the whole world. I would think that many people in other countries don't spend the kind of money it takes for ham Radio Deluxe.
Well, it's just like for Field Day, you know, like if I were doing Field day with you guys for summer, you know, I'd want to run the software and anyone who's doing contacts would need to run the same software. Or, you know, like we have the N3 FJP, which is a template customized for Field day. And so if you network them together, everyone can see what everyone's doing. So now if you stay to separate bands, you don't have to be worried about duplicates and stuff too much. But if people move around or whatever, then that's when you have issues like that, like duplicates and such. And someone has to go through every contact to make sure it's not a duplicate, that type of thing. But yeah, it tracks, you know, that one tracks all the different regions and, and DX locations and all the provinces of Canada and all that so you can see exactly what you're doing as the day progresses.
What are you talking about? I don't think I had any issue with a mouse. Are you talking about computer mouse?
Okay. In terms of mice for computers. Yeah, I'm. I'm still using old antiquated things. I'm sitting here using, you know, here's an AST, you know, PS2 mouse, right? Hooks into a USB, you know, USBA. I got one of those for one computer. And what's this other one? It is an HP. Yeah, same thing. PS2 mouse with a little wire that goes to USDA. Yeah, that's how old school I am. So what do you think of that?
Maybe I'm saying it wrong, but yeah, I don't have that connector anymore. This is just going to a USB A. So that makes sense. But I don't have a wireless mouse is essentially what I'm saying.
Speaker A: Over last weekend, winter field day. I was with Chris and he brought like four or five keys with him and I was trying them and stuff. And he had some nice begolis and stuff like that. Anyway, for portable use I need something smaller. So anyway, I've been using that little cheap key. You said you lost yours, but I'm sure you have it around somewhere, that little silver looking key. Anyway, and yours actually works better than mine does because mine's getting wore out already. But anyway, this one is made by Larry. His name is Larry Bauman. I think it is. N0SA is his call sign. And anyway, he custom makes these keys. They're kind of like modern Morse. If you've seen those, they look a bit like that. But I think there's a lot more plastic fuse, you know, because they're more for lighter weight. Anyway, but I used one and I liked it. So I emailed the guy and he said he would ship one to me. So anyway, I had to send him some money, of course, but anyway, so should be done, should be on its way. He gave me tracking information. So it sent something about getting it
Speaker B: Monday, but we'll see, That's no joke. It was 150 bucks.
Well, there's lots of big ollies or whatever. I don't know. The one that Chris has I like is. Well, he has two or three actually, I think. But one of the HST is pretty interesting. Takes a little getting used to, but I've liked that one a couple times. When he's brought it, he has. He probably has a dozen keys or something like that, different ones. And he's really good, so he's really been practicing a lot, so I got a long ways to go to catch up to him.
Pa.
Yeah, well, I still play. I like the apps on the phone, to be honest. You don't have to have a radio to mess with it. I play with the apps on the phone a lot, but I just keep practice up. Like Morse Mania is one of them. And Morsel, because that keeps you in the game a little bit. A little different than hearing stuff on the radio, but it can be challenging. You can set it at 30, 30 words a minute and practice with it. Hey, I got to go use the restroom, so I'll be back. KN6MGK.

Good morning, everybody. It's time for the Coffee breaknet. The Coffee breaknet is sponsored by the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio club on the W6EK repeater, which is located in Auburn, California. I'm Davis, WA6EWF, and along with Jerry, WA6E, we will be your net control host. Consider, you know, if anybody can control this net and your conversation facilitators, that's what we are. Let's see. Let's do some quick in and outs for people who need to get their day started, and then we'll get into more details. Who's out there? Well, everybody was very eager to get right in there. On top, we got Kate.
K6lnk system 36, snow mountain range.
Kk6vzd mobile w e6a x n receiver.
Speaker A: It looks like we lost the Internet.
Speaker B: M60kv.
Speaker C: M60. I'm sorry, I must have doubled over somebody. Was that you, Carl?
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker A: We're losing the Internet. You're in and out on the Internet.
Speaker B: N60KV.
Speaker C: Sorry about that. There's not much we can do about that. Well, we'll see. We'll get our technical people on that. In the meantime, what do you have up for your day?
Speaker A: Thank you, Theta. Good morning to you. Good morning to Jerry, Good morning to Rocky. Just some odds and ends around the house. Pretty well caught up with what I could do for the moment. Wait for the weather to get a little warmer to do some more work outside. I'm Matt. Thanks for running the net, Theta.
Speaker C: Well, my pleasure. You have a great day. And say hi to ruth for us. KM6 RFD. Can you come through? Confirm that call, please.
Speaker B: Absolutely. Theta, it's Kilo Mike Six Romeo Foxtrot Bravo.
Speaker C: Oh, that's how you're not showing up on the list. Okay. Good morning, Scott. How is your day going today?
Speaker B: Well, better. I've been kind of under the weather the last couple days. I took some time off from work, got sick on Tuesday, had to have a tooth extraction on Wednesday, and still recovering from both.
Speaker C: Oh, that's terrible. I'm so sorry. Shouldn't have to deal with all of those things. Well, get better. And I hope that that toothache goes away.
Speaker B: Oh, the toothache went away. They got rid of the tooth entirely. Now I'm just waiting for the sutures to heal and so I can. So about June or July, I get to go back in for the implant.
Speaker C: Ah, I wouldn't say what fun, but. Well, it's good that the toothache went away. I'm sure that your tongue is busy checking out those sutures when every time you don't think about it.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, it's an absolute field day in there. It keeps going. Hey, what is this? Yeah, no, I broke a tooth and they had to remove it. It just fractured and so eating the stupid things, I don't know. But yeah, I'm looking forward to the breakfast, I think tomorrow. And yeah, hopefully I can eat some solid food.
Speaker C: Ah, very good. Well, I. I don't know. I think until the sutures get healed, if it probably should stick to scrambled eggs and yogurt and things like that. Soup.
Speaker B: Been eating a lot of soup. Mac and cheese. Really soft stuff. Yeah. Actually, you know, the reality of it is the extraction took about an hour completely in and out of the chair. And I had, you know, very little other than sight tenderness. It's been pretty manageable.
Speaker C: Oh, well, good. There is not much worse than a screaming tooth or a broken tooth. Yeah, I had to have a root canal once.
Speaker A: It wasn't. Did that come through at all or did I drop out? You dropped out, Scott. We were looking at the repeaters, and now you. Yeah, the receivers and you, you showed up just at the last bit. Well, I'll let you get back to the net. Other than that, you, Jerry and Rocky,
Speaker B: have a great day.
Speaker C: And I'll see everybody tomorrow at breakfast.
Speaker A: Very good. Well, you take care. And you have a great day, too. 7:3, this is WA60WF for the coffee break net. Let's do some more in and outs.
Speaker D: This is whiskey, whiskey, six, delta, echo, foxtrot. WW6D, in and out.
Speaker A: Darren, we got you. Whiskey, Whiskey, Six, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot. And there was somebody else who was competing with you lost. Who was that?
Speaker E: Whiskey3, lima, sierra,
Speaker A: Mary, whiskey three, lima, sierra. We got you. Anybody else?
Speaker C: Kilo bravo, six lima, uniform, victor, ab, six luv. Good morning.
Speaker F: Kj 5 Gulf, whiskey, November. Good morning.
Speaker A: Ww6def. Good morning. What are you up to today?
Speaker D: Hey, good morning, Fata and the net. This is ww6def here, just rolling Mobile. We go look for some treasures at Denials Farmers Market, maybe get some produce. But, yeah, that's all I got going on today. I think I'm going to rest after that. Finally, after a week and a half, finally got the kitchen started. Decided I'm not going to go out of retirement and start doing window installing again like I did in my twenties, so had to drop five grand for a contract for a new garden window for the wife and replace some dry rot and siding that I'm not going to do. I'm just going to sit back and watch this time. So anyways, that's all I got going on. How are you doing, Fedora?
Speaker A: I'm doing just great. We're both kind of laughing at what you had to say. Yes. With age comes wisdom and the knowledge that we don't need to be up on a ladder and doing things like that. We can hire young people to do that.
Speaker D: Yeah. You know, I guess when we do a kitchen, you gotta. If you got a issue with your window and countertop leveling, you need to go ahead and start with that window first and then they'll come in. They're coming in Wednesday to measure the countertops and come in and measure the window, get the fine tooth measurement and then place the order. And I gotta wait six weeks and then the wife's got to figure out what floor she wants. We already figured out we're going to get. There's an appliance set at Home Depot. It comes with a dishwasher, oven, fridge, microwave, and that's a lot of money too. But I told her, I go, I think I trust ge. Before whirlpool, I always lived on. General Electric has always been a good item all the way across the board all these years. So I told her, let's go ahead
Speaker A: and get the George. Very good, very good. Well, that sounds like an exciting, long, drawn out process. You do have our sympathies. We've done that. But it's nice. You know, I have to admit our last kitchen remodel was very easy. We took off in the motorhome, told the contractor know we want this and this and this. Go for it. And he did. And so that was very nice. So that's definitely the way to do it. But good luck with all of that.
Speaker D: Yeah. The word on the street is from all the elders above me have said that when you retire, the first three years is basically not retirement. You're basically doing everything for your wife, fixing all the problems that you didn't do all the years you were working. So that's, that's what I'm stuck with next. She's already planted the seed for the guest bathroom. So I better just get myself a case of 30, 30 pack of Coors Light and start working anyways. Supposed to be in and out. You guys all have a great weekend. Thanks for running the net beta and have a blessed day. WW6D EF70.
Speaker A: You have a good day too Darren, and enjoy Denios. Haven't been there in a long time. This is WA60WF for the coffee breaknet W3LS. Mary, good morning. Well, good morning. This is W3LS.
Speaker E: I hope the Internet doesn't drop out because that's definitely how I'm coming in from Eugene where it is in the 40s and overcast. We may a little bit of rain please God, we got a very yesterday. We may get some on Sunday. We need lots of it. And the mountains need snow. That's my refrain every net I check into. I don't know why. I'm sure people are tired of hearing it. Anyway, not too much going on. It's Friday and yeah, I like your thought about how you hire out everything when you retire. The only thing is it's getting harder to find people and the prices keep going up. Oh well, not much else here. Not really looking forward to too much on the weekend or anything. We got a radio club meeting next Friday. I'm hoping to go, but that's a week away, so we'll see. Anyway, back to you in the net w3ls.
Speaker A: Well put on your coat and go out and get a little bit of fresh air. I understand how Eugene needs rain. I have heard that refrain before recently, so hopefully they will get the rain that part of the country is not used to being dry. Well, you have a great day Mary, and a good weekend. This is WA60WF KV6LUV. Brett, good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning Theta, Terry, Rocky, Hope all is doing well in your world. All is good. Here I am sitting here on this bright Friday sunny morning. Orange ball has made its appearance in the sky, which I'm happy about. Which means that I might get a little scoot on little red riding through the hood later on.
Speaker A: Very good. Yes, I only see a few little traces of clouds offa toward the Sierra, but blue sky here too. Sun hasn't really gotten up yet where it's noticeable, but okay. I just wasn't looking the right place. Jerry pointed it out. Well, you have. What do you have planned for your day?
Speaker C: So normal day I would say here in the morning, just doing my normal search for data center construction professionals as I've been doing for a while. That's kind of the niche roles that I'm currently looking for for a data center construction company in out of Las Vegas and Reno. But more importantly right now my mom Ani coming from Newton, Kansas is actually flying as we speak and she will be coming to Sacramento today. So I look forward to having her around and having her on the radio probably next week.
Speaker A: Oh, you will have such a great visit. That'll be so much fun. I'm glad that she's coming out and I look forward to hearing her voice.
Speaker C: Yeah, she looks forward to it as well. Although I as I've joked with Brian AI6 us that there's no way that we're going to get that woman into a technician license. But she'll be more than happy to key up with me as a radio operator.
Speaker A: Yeah, well you never know, she may get hooked.
Speaker C: Oh, okay. I'll hold my breath and wait for pigs to fly. Hi. Hi.
Speaker A: Of course you've got the cell phone or iPad, Zoom, computer, FaceTime, all those other ways to talk to you. So getting her her technician license really isn't much of an incentive anymore.
Speaker C: Not really. But she really does and she does get a kick out of listening. I've got her quite, you know, addicted to coffee. Breaking that in the morning now, so. Well, awesome. Well, hey, quick in and outs. I appreciate you and Jerry being there this morning. Thank you very much. It's always a pleasure having you guys there. I will be just standing by and listening intently. KB6LUV.
Speaker A: Take care of yourselves.
Speaker C: Take care of each other. Be of love. 73 Clearing Listening
Speaker A: 73 Brett KJ5GWN Will, good morning.
Speaker F: Good morning, Taylor. From a clear 32 degrees Oklahoma City. Yes. I didn't think it would get up above 32, but it finally has.
Speaker A: Yay.
Speaker F: It'll get up to 38 degrees today according to my phone. Supposed to cool down a little bit tomorrow, but that's only short lived because Sunday is supposed to be 46. So, you know, it is what it is. I'll take it. I can deal with it. So no freezing colds for the foreseeable Future. This is KJ5 Gulf Fish Kit. Back to you, Fata.
Speaker A: Very good. Well, you've had a little bit of deep freeze and hopefully that's going to scoot back up into the Arctic where it belongs and let everybody else warm up a little bit. You have a great day. I hope you don't have anything too exciting planned today.
Speaker F: No, I gotta make a bank run after a while. I got a guy coming to get me and we're gonna go do that this afternoon. So that's all I got going today. I got the rest of my bills done this morning, so got my rent yet to do and that'll be done by the end of the day hopefully. So anyway, back over to you, peter. This is KJ5 Golf, Fishing, River, Mount Clear.
Speaker A: Well, enjoy your little outing and you have a great day. This is the Coffee breaknet. I am WA60DWF. Let's see. National Day is today. Actually, this week is Storytelling Week. National Storytelling Week. We're good at that. We can celebrate that one all year long. It's Big Wig Day. Celebrating the wigs in fashion history. Some big ones, some little ones. I don't wear a wig. It's draw a dinosaur day. Croissant Escape day. Or if you can't escape, it's also fun at work day. So if you can't escape work, at least have fun at work. It's inane answering message day. What's the funniest one you've ever done or heard? And it's yodel for your neighbors. Any yodelers here in the group? This is the Coffee Breaknet. Who's out there? If you want to be an in n out, tell me. I will put you on the top of the list.
Speaker G: KW4U in and out.
Speaker C: Good morning,
Speaker A: j n lynn in and out.
Speaker B: 2e0lrv. That's number two echo, number zero lima radio victor. That's from the shire.
Speaker F: N9 muf.
Speaker C: November 6th whiskey quebec uniform, kn6wq,
Speaker A: Kilo oscar six echo bravo quebec,
Speaker G: kv6ssn.
Speaker A: All right, let's see what we have. Here is tom, kb6ssn and k06ebq. Kn6wqv.wq, k n6wq. That's a u. Okay, urine in and out. I'll get right back up to you. N9 muf. Is that victor 02 romeo gulf. Is that correct? Romeo gulf, victor.
Speaker B: So that's the negative. I heard my call sign mixed up, but that one takes the biscuit. It's two Number Two Echo. Number Zero Lima Radio Victor. Let us from the Shire.
Speaker A: 2E0 Lima Romeo Victor in the Shire. Okay, we'll get right back to you and hearing come. You were in conflict with lgp Larry, who isn't in and out. I need a full call for that, please.
Speaker F: Kilo oscar six lima, golf papa.
Speaker A: Okay, kilo oscar six lima, golf papa, debbie six bjn and kw4u is it in and out. So, okay, kw4u. Good morning.
Speaker G: Well, hi. I know it's been a while. Things have been sort of crazy. I've been. Well, we'll get into all the specifics, but as you know, I do a lot of work with Blind Information Technology Solutions, as it is now called. And this is sort of like our tax season for certification membership certification. But they chose this time to do upgrades to the system, which eliminated the ability to do exports. It was, and continues at somewhat lesser of a level to be a nightmare. But I just submitted a report for the weekly bulletin that we put out. Want to say hi to W3LS? I had never heard her voice before, but like me, she used to live in the D.C. area, although she was in Maryland, I was in Virginia. So we were on opposite sides of different parts of suburban D.C. if you will. First time I ever heard her voice. Anyway, great to see her here. It's like nothing and everything is going on. And if this works and it appears to be working, I will have put some anxiety to rest because I heard that version 2.2.26 iOS 26.2.1 had problems with repeater phones, so I guess I either got an updated repeater phone or the problems weren't as advertised. Either way, I don't want to have that ability taken away from me. Temperature is going to go into the 70s today, so that'll be pleasant. And I think that's about all I got KW for you. Back to that.
Speaker A: Well very nice that you, you got to hear Mary's voice and you've got good things going on so that that's good that you're keeping yourself busy.
Speaker G: I always say that you know I'm busier in retirement than I was when I worked and when I'm looking at all I'm doing I'm saying how did I, you know how did I hold down a full time job But I did but I walked away from that about ten and a half years ago and I have no regrets. This is no longer an economic need to do so I can do what I want when I want with lots of life fulfilling activities. This is a year I'm going to do more with ham specifically getting my HS station. Morning John, this is Jerry WA60 first
Speaker C: of all the iOS update I didn't hear about anything with repeater phone.
W6tr mobile on frequency.
N6iwh.n6iwh w6tr.
W6pr.
Speaker A: The iOS update. But I can tell you this, you sound fine. So if it's working okay on your end, don't mess with it, don't fix it, leave it alone. Just curious, where in Virginia did you live before we moved here, we lived in Alexandria.
Speaker B: Okay, thanks for that. The one downside is if my finger slips off the thing, it releases the mic. But thanks to that information. So you guys were in. Well, you're in. One or both of you are in military, I believe anyway, so. Yep, a lot of refugees in the D.C. area. It had its time in place. I enjoyed the time while I was there at Good friends, but happy to be in Tucson and retired. KW for you.
Speaker C: A quick comment.
Speaker A: Yeah, okay, go ahead, comment.
Speaker D: Yeah, I didn't.
Speaker C: I just want to tell
Speaker B: Ron, I believe it is.
Speaker C: I don't know if you know, but if you go down to settings, there's a choice in repeaterphone that has push to talk and hold or double or just tap and hold. So you can switch that microphone to, you know, you tap it and then tap it again to unkey. I'm not sure if you were aware of that or familiar with that. Just wanted to throw that in there. All right, thanks. K6DXN.
Speaker B: Yeah, many thanks for that information. I had it set that way and there was one or two times when I locked up the repeater. I mean, I caught it in time. I knew what had happened, I took care of it. But after that I vowed that, okay, I'm not going to set it that way. Yeah, I am aware that one could do it that way, but I almost locked up and caused disruption on this repeater on a level you guys don't want to do that. So I'm going to keep it as it is, but many thanks for that. Dxn, I'm not coming up with your name, but I. You're the PODA in the dark guy. KW for you. Back to neck control.
Speaker A: Okay, John, well, thank you for checking in with us. And Simone, thanks. You're now on the list, Simone, so don't go anywhere. And John, we are both in the Air Force. I commuted over to Andrews and thank God that was against the bulk of the traffic. And Theta went to Cameron Station, which wasn't very far away but took 45 minutes because of traffic. So I don't miss that part. I'm giving this back to Theta and we'll move on. Good to hear you on. This is WA6E.
Speaker E: And this is wa6ewf. Yes, nice to hear you on john. This morning. Glad that you checked in. Let's see. Kn6wqu. Dan, good morning. Your radio is. This is the home of sac Valley's original 105W6 GRC with a PL tone of 110.
Speaker F: Sorry about that. I'm having some radio edges in the truck here. I'm gonna run over to HRO here and show Jim what's going on here. He's probably listening anyway. I don't have too much fun on another day off for me trying it. Well, I mean, it's talking to me. A day off, really. I got a couple of things I need to finish up on a couple jobs that are here at the house. We got our Freon came in yesterday for hv, the AC system. So we get to put that back together and refill it and recharge it. So hopefully we can get our heat back today. So that'll be awesome. It is definitely getting colder at night, so we'll see how it goes. You know, hopefully that, you know, tech support on the phone was right, and we don't have to pack this thing back up and send it back and get a new one, hopefully. So we'll see how it goes, but that's pretty much all I got. This is KN6WQ.
Speaker E: I hate to think you have to send it back. It'll take another six weeks to get a replacement, so hopefully that works. How frustrating.
Speaker D: Yes, indeed.
Speaker F: Yes, indeed. I thought we had it at first, and then I'm glad that I had. I had met this AC guy and I did some trade work with him. So he came over and started looking at a couple things and trying to see what was going on. And he did some temperature sweeps and did some stuff. And he knows all about these mini split things, so I'm very thankful for that. So he was like. One of them was putting out, like 101.5 temp, which is apparently too high. And then the other ones weren't putting out much at all. But the AC compressor was going to the moon when it shouldn't do that because it's trying to satisfy all the other heads.
Speaker G: Right.
Speaker A: So it should be.
Speaker F: They should put out around 98 degrees, from what I understand. I thought they would do more than that, but I guess not. I mean, they do have an electric heat function. So on the remote control, you can put on the electric heat, and it will turn a little heater element on on top of the refrigerant to help heat the house faster. Or if it's too cold outside, we can still have Heat.
Speaker G: So that's pretty cool.
Speaker F: But anyway, yeah, hopefully this gets it fixed and we can be done with the, you know, the installing the heater system in the house saga, because I'm ready to move on to something else or at least take a break for a day. Hey, I think you appreciate you guys doing the net today and hope everybody has a good day. This is KN6WQ.
Speaker A: Dan, I'm sorry to hear about this because these splits were supposed to be the definition of simplicity. When we lived in Dayton, Ohio, we had a house that was all electric. It had a heat pump, but it also had those supplemental electric heating elements. And the heat pump was good down to, I don't know, somewhere in the 40s, I would guess. And then those heat elements came on and holy moly. You could go out and watch your electric meter spinning and the bearing in the middle of the meter would start smoking because the little disc was spinning so fast. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but. Oh, man. Keep that living where you do. I don't think you need those electric elements on. It will destroy all the benefit you get from going with your split unit.
Speaker F: Yes, Jerry, I have actually heard and I'm very, very aware of that. So, yeah, I'm trying very hard. I was trying to teach everybody else because, you know, they're touching their moats and playing with all the buttons like everybody else wants to do. And that's fine to kind of, you know, figure it out. You know, just make sure that they turn it off so that their way they're not using it when it doesn't need to be used. But yeah, absolutely. I have seen that personally. That the bearing smoking? Not really, but yes, I understand what you're saying.
Speaker G: Let's see.
Speaker F: Yeah, so what our problem was is that basically the unit is supposed to come pre charged with maximum of 125ft of line set. So we have 165ft total. So that that's the reason why the simplicity wasn't there.
Speaker D: So we had to.
Speaker F: And in addition to that, this unit runs on some new Freons, so it runs on R32, which nobody really has yet because it just came out. So I had to buy 20 pounds of it, which we're going to use on the system. And then I'm going to give it to the AC guy and he's going to go burn it up in a couple of jobs and give me my money back. So basically it's going to be for free. So it's not going to be that bad. So Anyway, alright, I'm gonna let you guys get on with the net here. This is KN6WQ.
Speaker A: Well I can see why you need additional Freon or whatever that's called when you have more line but you have multiple heads which introduces a complexity all of its own. So good luck with all of that. Eventually you'll get it in and you'll love it, but meanwhile you hate it until that point arrives. Good luck with that and good talking to you. This is WA6E. I'll give the mic back to Theta Mark. Technically you're next on the list WB6BJN, but I'm going to put you down at the bottom.
Speaker F: Unless.
Speaker A: Unless the world is about to end. Is that okay with you?
Speaker D: No, it's not because I have to get going. Unless I'll keep it short because I got another net coming up because of daylight savings change has had our net earlier. If I can get out before 11, I don't mind.
Speaker A: And right now it's 10 o'. Clock.
Speaker D: Okay, that's fine because I, I would be more than happy to keep it short if other people want to go long. So I don't want to, I don't want to take away from anybody else if, if it's, if it's a hard thing, I can wait and check in tomorrow there.
Speaker E: Go ahead.
Speaker A: Well why don't you go ahead and do it? I didn't know you knew what the word should short meant. Haha. So give us the reader digest version and we'll get you out of here so you don't miss your Net. This is WA60.
Speaker D: Okay, because I've mentioned this before, when it goes back to daylight savings that'll open it back up and I don't mind going at the end like I usually have, but I do know, you know it gets long and I, and I get that. So I'll keep it short here. WB6BJN. Looks like nice weather over California because you guys are under high pressure and it's going to continue that way pretty much for the foreseeable future. The system that was supposed to bring some rain maybe, but by the weekend has fizzled and the 6 to 10 and 8 to 14 day outlook. Look, it's going to continue to be dry for California and much of the western United States and you guys really need some snow in the Sierras and rain in the valley. So it's been way below normal and the fog is going to continue in the valley and nice weather along the coast with temperatures in the 60s and the 70s now moving to the rest of the nation, there's what they call a bombo Genesis low pressure area. Let me take a break. It's going to affect the Carolinas and go up the east coast and then it's supposed to get colder through the weekend here. We've had a low this morning of 20.7 degrees and it's going to make it all the way up to 27 this afternoon. And then major cold weather back here. And that's bad because people in the south are still without power and over 100 people have died from the storm that we had last week and the cold weather that is currently happening. The good news is it looks like it's going to try to warm up quite a bit back here next week, and that's a good thing. And we might get some rain to melt off all the rest of the ice.
Speaker E: That's it.
Speaker D: And I'll turn it back to you guys. That was my long, short deal there. WB16DJ.
Speaker E: Very good. Thank you for that expedited version of the weather. I think we've got the picture. So, yeah, we need rain. Like Mary is saying up in Oregon, they need rain. We need rain. We need snow up there in the mountain. We want this to happen. So hopefully it will. Anyway, what do you and Sarah have planned for the weekend?
Speaker D: Pretty much stay warm. SATA and I hope you and Jerry are going to have a great weekend, too. We're just going to stay warm back here. And yeah, Mary's under the same thing and everybody that's in the Pacific Northwest until this pattern really breaks. And it doesn't really show any signs of that out west yet. Maybe within the next 15 days, maybe something might shift, but that's a long ways off and that can fizzle. So it's definitely a La Nina pattern, but we're going to stay in, stay warm, and hopefully next week it'll warm up a little bit. Back to you, Theta. And great to hear from you and great to hear from Jerry. WB6BJ.
Speaker E: Well, great to hear from you, too. And say hi to Sarah Forrest.
Speaker D: I hope you have a great weekend.
Speaker E: Oh, let's see. Jerry says who is an IO also. Okay, well, he's up next. You have a great day, Mark, and we'll hear from you next week. This is the coffee breaknet. I'm wax EWF KO6 LGP. Glenn, I'm sorry we missed your in and out request.
Speaker D: Oh, good morning.
Speaker A: This is Glenn waking up. This still a little fog here in Natomas. Practicing the piano. Going to test my HF antenna today for the first time and looking forward to a good day.
Speaker E: Very good. Well, that's the best we can hope for. Right, have a good day, everybody. Be healthy and happy and see you can either escape or have fun at work. So there is that.
Speaker A: Yeah. Pray for snow. This is Glenn Kilo, Oscar 6, LPG.
Speaker E: Well, you have a great day, Glenn, and thank you for checking in. 2E0 Lima Romeo Victor Less in the Shire. Good morning or good evening.
Speaker G: 2E0LRD. Good morning to everybody over there. Yes, good evening. It's just gone 4pm over here and
Speaker A: it's just getting dark.
Speaker G: And the WX, which is not really applicable to any. The majority of the people on the net, it's dull, gloomy, overcast. I've had the lights on in the house all day long. It's that dark and gloomy. It's a miserable day. It is a miserable day. Outside, it's quite nice in here. So we've been working on. A lot of people I speak to are doing mesh core setups. There's quite a lot of interest in the. In the town I live in, we've got quite an active amateur radio collection of reprobates. In this particular town, there's at least a dozen active people and another probably half dozen or so who pop in now and again. We've gone on to this mesh core thing. I've also got friends all over the country. They're all talking about Mesh Corps. I go on the Nets over in Seattle and of course they're all talking about mesh corps as well. We've taken the plunge. We've ordered a board which is on the slowboat from China, I think three weeks it's coming. It'll be arriving sometime. I think it's the 9th of February, so probably not next week, but the week after that, which is the main bit. I've got the antenna, I've got the battery, the solar charges are on order. So, yes, it's all coming together as a bit of a project, but it keeps me out of mischief. As I say, I'm quite forward to it. And apparently you can have like two parts. You have your companion, which is your particular gateway or node or whatever you want to call it, and you then go to repeaters. But, you know, you don't want a repeater at your house. If you've got a companion node, you need it to be some distance away, so you see the rest of the network. So, yeah, so I'm going to play with that. Of course, it involves my other. One of my other favorite hobbies at the moment, 3D printing. So once I get all the bits together, I can design and build a print case to put it all in, you know, so it's, it's quite good fun. And I've just had a few deliveries. I've got a little gas, gas torch which I've laughed to for ages to the heat shrink and all this sort of thing on cables and one or two other little jobs.
Speaker A: So.
Speaker G: So, yes, so we're making the most of a particularly miserable day. But yeah, what can I say? And the reason I'm losing the Shire is I actually live in North Worcestershire and rather than put you guys Worcestershire, I'll just say I'm from the Shire. But I used to work at Lee and Perrins years ago. I was an engineer there before I retired and used to make sure that the world always got his Lee and Perrin sauce.
Deep.
The gears. Monthly informal breakfast is held on the second Saturday of the month at 9am at the Farmer's Skillet, located at 690 Rio Lindo Avenue, Chico. All are welcome to attend. W6R H C Repeater checked 1.
Kn 6 mgk mobile.
Speaker A: Mgk, are you still on frequency W6PR?
Speaker B: Yes, I am. W6PR. Kilo, November 6 Mike Golf Kilo Chico.
Speaker A: Good morning and good morning. Whiskey Six Tango radio. Let's see, where am I? Well, I'm heading to Stony Ford to ride my dirt bike for the day. So I'm probably about 15 miles out of Ladoga if you know,
Speaker B: I haven't been there. But yeah, there used to be a repeater over that way, the 76 0, I think. Gentleman used to. I used to talk to him over that way. Nice. Yeah. So you'll be within pretty good range of this repeater for most of the time. Then seeing Mr. Peter's actually in the mountains just outside of Stony Ford there, so. Good deal.
Speaker C: Yeah, it's got good coverage, I think.
Speaker A: Is this mountain up on St. John?
Speaker B: Yeah, Roger, roger. Yeah, so anyway, yeah, several others are too up that way. Like the gears west for Golden Empire Amateur Radio. Same location but different VHF frequency, over.
Speaker A: Sure, yeah, I've been up to St. John a couple of times, so yeah, it's a great vantage point from up there. If you told me your name, I've forgotten it. Name here is Bill.
Speaker B: That Bill may have spoken to you before, but who knows. Name is Steve. Listed as Stevens, of course. But anyway, I frequent this frequency quite a bit every morning or so anyway. But some of us are starting to migrate to some other frequencies too, and a lot of HF work. But. Yeah. So you're riding some motorcycles today, huh?
Speaker A: Yeah, we're going to go up there and tear it up. We've got some chainsaws on the front of our bikes. There's quite a few trees that have been. Well, every storm they fall across the trails and so. So we go up and clean things up and after every storm we pretty much have to start over. So we've been working over in a different place, joined at the hip to the Stony Ford riding area, a place called Middle Creek. And we've got Middle Creek pretty much cleaned up. So now we're going to focus our activities on Stony Ford Trail.
Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know the names of the trails, but been to St. John myself a couple of times. Probably three, four times, I don't know. And yep, sometimes trees come down there and we have to take care of that too. So. Much obliged if you ever run up that way and take care of trees.
Speaker A: Yeah, I have. I don't ride without a chainsaw on the front of my bike, mainly because I totally suck at lofting my bike over trees.
Speaker B: Yeah, understand that. Yeah. Well, I suck at keeping the two wheels upright, so doesn't matter what I'm doing. So I pretty much quit riding motorcycles. But I enjoy four wheels these days.
Speaker A: There you go. Well, I'm addicted to anything on two wheels. I ride bicycles as well. Gave up the street bikes, although I do have a license plate on this particular dirt bike. But that's just for connecting trails. What kind of HF work do you do?
Speaker B: Well, I've been enjoying a lot of parks on the air stuff lately, but I've been taking a break from that for this month mainly. But yeah, so hf, you know, we do a lot, do a lot of 20 meters CW, 15 meter CW. Just starting to learn. So that's why I've been focusing more on that lately. The morning's been waking up early and doing some FT8 and used to do some JS8 call, but not a whole lot of that right now. And then of course, you know, some sideband work on 40 meters and I listen in on 80. But I don't really talk much except for 80 meters on Sunday mornings. Talk with a group of guys or listen to them and check in for about an hour. Deal. But you know, so I like HF a lot better than I like vhf. Of course I do too.
Speaker A: I'm in a bad area. So give me a second here. W6PR.
Speaker B: Last couple months of mesh radio. You don't have to be a ham to do it, you know, but there is a ham private channel on mesh networks on meshtastic. Some people are doing mesh core. Might delve into that a little bit later, but building some nodes, setting up a community of paradise and Magalia. We've gotten about 20 nodes around there now it's doing pretty well. Probably about 20 nodes here around Chico, but it needs probably 40 more, you know, to do anything good. So Chico is just a little bit bigger area and valley level, so harder to get vantage points. But anyway, mesh networks is pretty fun to play around with.
Speaker A: Yeah, that's a part of ham radio that I am absolutely clueless about. Mesh network FT8 just have not really sunk my teeth into that. I know I should. I enjoy 20 meters, especially in the summertime in the evening. And I enjoy. Well, I enjoy all the bands, but I also enjoy 160. I've got an antenna that works fairly well on 160 as well as 80. So late at night it's fun to get on those two bands and talk to the gun.
Speaker B: Yeah, I might mess around with that a little bit at some Point, but probably just put a loop low to the ground, though. But it'll be good enough for local comms anyway. But, yeah, mesh stuff is all. You don't have to be. We run under a watt, so you don't have to be a ham radio operator. So there's lots of people that get involved that have nothing to do with ham radio. It's just another way of communication using the 915 MHz area spectrum and people putting simplex nodes everywhere. So more of a texting kind of thing. A lot of times use your phone as the source of medium where you communicate back and forth, but you're not using any cellular infrastructure or anything like that. Whatever the community has developed.
Speaker A: That's interesting. I'm going to have to check that out. I've ridden in motorcycle groups that have a mesh network inside their helmets, which I'm looking at getting when I ride with these guys. The next time will probably be in March. So I've got to figure out what system they use.
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Then I have no idea. But anyway, I wouldn't, you know, I don't know. I mean, this is all like digital stuff I'm talking about. It's like texting kind of, you know, so I don't think it would work for what you're doing necessarily. But. But so I bet you they're using something different. But yeah, it's coming on strong. A lot of ham radio people are involved in it too, just because. Because it comes natural to them, kind of putting up nodes and things like that. And. And, you know, it's kind of worldwide. A lot of people around the world use stuff like this. I mean, it can be bad and good. Right. So like say during the protests or whatever, and they decide that they want to use, you know, they want to get rid of the cell phones and stuff for everyone in the protest. Well, this kind of a network can survive that because everyone could be carrying a mesh network node with them and still using their phones to communicate, you know, so for that reason, some people don't like it.
Speaker A: Well, that's interesting. Yeah, that's. That's fascinating. I mean, the fact that from what I gather from you, that there doesn't appear to be any regulation. That's even more interesting.
Speaker B: Yeah, it could be totally encrypted. So then the way that they would have to shut it down is by jamming the frequency, which is why they limit you to like, say one watt. Right. Not him. So they can come in and way overpower the system, you know, and Shut it down. Right. So that's what they'd have to do. But anyway, that's why they're finding some of these other countries, you know, that are involved with stuff against their own governments or whatever. They're using stuff like this, too. It's an interesting technology. It's come a long ways in the last couple years, but it's still got a long ways to go.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah? Yeah. I mean, based on what you're saying, I'll bet you there's a lot of people in Iran are using that. You know, a lot of people there are very technologically oriented.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah. They're very intelligent people. And, you know, of course I want them to succeed in whatever they want to succeed in there, but I'll leave that up to the people. But unfortunately, if they get caught using something like that, they might, you know, unfortunately not be too happy with the results. So. Gotta be real careful with the radio stuff and even Starlink over there, I'm sure.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah, yeah, definitely. Yeah.
Speaker B: Well, anyway,
Speaker A: nice talking to you. I think I'm gonna sign and continue my journey here and. Yeah, thanks for the. Maybe I'll give you a call on my way back. I'll try to write down your call. Sign here as I'm traveling up the Maxwell Grade here. Whiskey Six Tango Radio.
Speaker B: Yeah, no problem. I don't know if I'll be around or not, but feel free. Whiskey Six Tango Rodeo radio from Kilo, November 6th. Mike Golf, Kilo. My location is Chico and I'm taking a break anyway, but there's a few other people that listen on this frequency. If you have any problems or questions during the day, maybe someone can get back to you. Hopefully. I have to cross my fingers anymore because there used to be about a dozen of us and unfortunately a lot of them have left the airways. So we'll have to catch up with you later and be safe out there. Be careful on some of those roads. Ice and stuff like that. Maybe, but I'm sure you are. 73kn600gk73.
Speaker C: N6 GRT. One of the hangar routers. Although lately I've been very busy and away from the radio. N6G.
Speaker B: Hey, Mike. I'll say good morning to you, but. Yeah, I'm gonna go inside and get me some tea, so I'll have to catch up with you later, but. Yeah, good morning. It's in mid-40s here and gonna say mostly sunny skies, so it should be a good day. So hopefully you'll get some stuff accomplished. I'm sure you will kn6mgk73.
Speaker C: Believe it or not, it's cooler here than it was in Elko, which, you know, Elko goes down to like 20 or 10 degrees this time of year normally. All right. N6GRG. Elko, Nevada for those who are confused with what I just said,
Speaker A: is there any other elco question mark?
Speaker C: You know, that's a good question. There's sure a lot of Eurekas where I came from over on the coast.
Speaker A: Yeah, Nevada can get cold up there in that high desert, that's for sure. And right now it's. Well, I'm got a little bit of elevation. It went from low 40s, it's actually was 50 degrees. Now it's just they decrease in elevation down to 49.
Speaker C: Yeah, that's one reason why Keshevila hasn't put some big huge manufacturing plant over in Elko is because. Probably because it's cool there. So. Yeah, you're traveling.
Speaker A: Yeah, as I mentioned to Steve, I'm. I'm on my way to Stony Ford to ride my dirt bike. And this is Whiskey six Tango radio. Name is Bill.
Speaker C: Well, I thought we talked before. Yeah, I remember Tango Romeo and dirt bikes. Yes, in Stonyford. And I mentioned how one of the guys that used to have a lot to do with this system came up from Clear Lake, went over the top of the hill and down into Stonyford on the first trip that he did and checked into this repeater. So you know, that was his adventure.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm sure that he was on Elk Mountain Road. I've traveled that road many times. Yeah, I seem to recall we were up out of Elk Creek a month less ago.
Speaker C: I do remember our speeches though. Yeah, there's a few out of the way places I've gone to over there on my way to the top of the mountain. This repeater's on. So. One that has the word glade in it. I recall that was a very cool one.
Speaker A: Yeah, I've been up to the top of the mountain a couple of times where this repeater is located. Yeah, it's a fun little trek. I mean it's Fire Road of course, but. But it was. It was fun to explore.
Speaker C: Yeah, this was back in the days when the repeater needed a lot of work and doesn't get much many visits now. But I remember on that particular weekend there were just tons and tons of off roaders in the area. A big gathering and one of the things that happened was this dad brought his son up there and the son had a little motorcycle. It wasn't an atv. It was a little motorcycle and I remember that kid going, we're going down this hill. I am scared, dad.
Speaker A: Yeah. You know, when you get to the
Speaker B: very top,
Speaker A: there is a. As you start down the hill, if we're on the same page, there's a bit of a grade. It's probably only 100ft or so. And if you're not experienced, I can see where that would completely blow your
Speaker C: mind
Speaker A: at the time.
Speaker C: See, they had this big fire up there and a lot of the things that were really tough to go over and around are now gone. But at the time there was one little rock outcrop that scared the heck out of people like that boy.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, you know, the older I get, the less I'm apt to
Speaker C: go
Speaker A: on these, what I call death rides. I enjoyed those in my younger years. I recently turned 70 and I can still kick butt, but I no longer enjoy these narrow trails with tons of
Speaker C: exposure where if you
Speaker A: make the wrong move, it could be catastrophic to your health.
Speaker C: Yeah, I've let my. I'm 75 and I've let my Dr. 350 just kind of rest for a while. I used to take it to the top of mountains and stuff. And I don't know if you're familiar with the Dr. 350, but if you're. I'm like 5, 9 and that is a very tall bike. So you gotta know what you're doing with that bike.
Speaker A: Dr. 350, is that a Yamaha?
Speaker C: A Suzuki.
Speaker A: Okay, I almost said Suzuki. A 50. 50 chance. Yeah, those, those are tall bikes. I'm riding a 300cc two stroke and the particular bike I'm riding, it's a Husqvarna, which is made by ktm. And I like this bike because it's got a relatively small cockpit. It's not tall at all. Now I have a four stroke Husky 350 and that bike is tall. And I'm six feet and I've got a fairly long inseam. But there are times where I do not like riding that bike. It's just tall. And if you have to put your foot down to maneuver over something, it could problematic.
Speaker C: Yeah, you know, you think you've got it covered and then you drive, you go someplace where there's a hole in addition to, you know, you're, you're about to kind of lean that direction and there's a hole over there.
Speaker B: So.
Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. And it's a heavy bike to get back up.
Speaker A: Yeah, I did that in Idaho. I was going through a stream and I hit a rock midstream. I would say the stream was probably 2 1/2ft and my bike stopped. I put my left foot down and there was a hole and completely drowned the bike underwater. Saw fishy swimming by, so to speak, and we got the bike running. You can get a two stroke running a lot easier than you can get a four stroke running if you drown it. But ever since then, I hate going through streams.
Speaker C: Yeah, when I was really young,
Speaker A: Well, it sounds like you are keeping yourself well and truly busy and how nice that you've got lots of other hands in your location so you guys can get together and do fun stuff. I don't know much about mesh corps people here starting to talk about it. So I am sure that that is something that will float into our vision sometimes and I anticipate that being the next trip down to ham radio outlet to see what we can find. So glad that you're. You're keeping yourself busy and sounds like you've got things to keep you occupied underneath that gloomy dark. Day.
Speaker B: 2E0 and I'll be returning. Let me just turn that other VFO down.
Speaker C: Yes, yes.
Speaker B: On top of it all, I spent a lot of time last week. One of my, one of my things that something I do with the grand grandkids granddaughters is air rifle target shooting. And I'm negotiating with a firearms dealer down in Essex to get a rifle made in the Ukraine to my personal specifications. They decided it's quite a nice setup. So they're actually going to order a lot of them. They're actually giving it a name. It's on their web page. But yes, it's a cross between a Biasalon type rifle, one of these things the guys have on the back when they're skiing around, and then choose shoulder straps and they take them off and then they shoot the target and off they go, and the normal sort of rifle. So it's a cross between the two. Not quite as extreme as Biafran rifle, but something to get with the adjustability so that the gun daughters so I can make the stock shorter, the reach smaller, and also just get the cheek rest in to get it right for them. So that's the whole idea behind it. And yeah, so as I say, I've got an awful lot of projects. In fact, when I retired, I suddenly became very, very busy because I suddenly realized when I retired I got this
Speaker A: huge great list of things that I'd
Speaker B: been doing over the years. I said, oh, I'll do that when I retire. I'll do that. That when I retire. And then all of a sudden I retired and it was like, oh,
Speaker D: we're gonna be busy.
Speaker B: So, yes, so I've got to keep going for at least another 30 years and hit the 100 mark to try and get as many of these things done as I can before they carry me off in the. What sit.
Speaker C: So, yeah.
Speaker B: So busy, busy, busy. 2E 0 LRV.
Speaker A: Very good. Yes, yes. We discovered when we retired that we were so busy, we were wondering when we had time to actually have a job. And you seem to have taken that to heart. So enjoy all of your fun hobbies. Nice talking to you. I'm glad that you checked in. This is WA6EWF for the coffee breaknet N9MUF. Daniel, good morning.
Speaker D: Good morning.
Speaker C: Theta Jerry and the net. We've got a gloomy and chilly day here in Chicagoland. Gray skies. I'll assume that the sun is shining in California, but it is sure not shining in Illinois.
Speaker A: Oh, the sun is shining here. I'm sorry. Your weather is all our fault. Keeps telling us that.
Speaker C: No, no, I don't hold y' all responsible. As usual, I blame Mark. If I didn't blame Mark, I think he'd think something was wrong.
Speaker A: We have to blame somebody. It's not our fault. Yes, yes, we have in the past and probably will be in the future, blaming Mark for whatever weather we're having. I hesitate to do that now because poor Mark's getting the blowback from that weather himself. So he's suffering, too. So I guess we can't blame him. If he's suffering and you're suffering, you can blame whoever you want.
Speaker C: It's really not too bad. The weather is, you know, on the I don't feel like it's an I don't feel like going outside kind of. Whether or not I can't go outside kind of weather. It's more the lack of sunshine. So I've got a sun lamp on and making sure sure to keep the inside light and hopefully maybe even might light a fire tonight in the fireplace. You know, do what I can to stay cheery.
Speaker A: I understand completely. Well, you at least have a furry kitty that can sit on your lap and make you feel good.
Speaker C: And that's where she's been, Ben. Kind of.
Speaker A: Ah.
Speaker C: She's actually approaching me right now. She must have heard your voice. The only problem is I've got jeans on. And she will. If I'm wearing shorts, she'll completely jump on my lap. But if I'm wearing jeans, she decides to jump up on my calf and then climb up on my leg. Because she's like, well, you can handle it if you've got jeans on.
Speaker A: I have been climbed by those tiny little sharp kitty claws. Yep. At one point we had our cat had five kittens. And yes, they would use us as climbing trees. What a great experience.
Speaker C: I think part of being a cat owner or part of checking people out for being a cat owner is seeing if they have. Can handle claws and teeth. Because if you have a cat, at some point you will be bit and you will be clawed, not in anger, but in affection. And they will. They will. They don't do it out of meanness unless you're threatening them. And if you don't understand that you shouldn't be a cat owner.
Speaker A: It's bad enough when they're making happy paws on your lap or on your shoulder and those little claws, just the tips come out with the touch, touch, touch. You know, that's not really comforting. Well, yeah, the only time I've ever been. Well, let's see. He wasn't really angry with me, except I was trying to shove a pill down his throat and bit me so hard his tooth went right through my thumbnail. Yeah. I went over to the vet and said, this cat is going to die because I'm not giving him any more pills. And they said, oh, well, you can use this little pill thing that you clamp the pill in it and you shove it in the back of their throat, and then you push the plunger and the pill shoots down their throat and you don't have to put your finger in there. Why didn't you tell me that before?
Speaker C: I love the little memes that go around where, you know, Hercules goes through his feats of strength. And the last one is. Is pulling a cat, which he, of course, fails.
Speaker A: Ah, yes. Or washing a cat. Or one of our daughter's cats was. Had extremely hirsute, and she got hairballs, you know, almost instantaneously. And trying to brush her, that was another. And that's another exercise in total futility.
Speaker C: I can brush our cats when I need to. That's not a problem. But part of it is establishing a safe place and making sure that they don't feel threatened by it. I had to work on our current cat's predecessor quite a bit. She was a long hair, and I was really the only one who could do it. And I knew when to stop and, you know, give it a break. And then she'd come back and we'd work on it some more.
Speaker A: Well, you're a very patient cat, dad. That's good. So what exciting things do you and kitten have planned for your gloomy day in Chicago?
Speaker C: Oh, more job search, as usual during the weekday. Get a little exercise in and some cw. And I found I've got a trilogy, science fiction trilogy that I'm rereading, and I needed a break. I tend to do nonfiction reading, and my mind just needed a bit of a Break. But I do need to go over the material for the extra class that I'll be teaching in two weeks and see if need to tweak any of my slides for that.
Speaker A: Ah yes, I understand that completely. And a reread. I have several when my the world is just not not going well. It's just too much with me as they as the poet said, I go to those books even though I have read them multiple times because they're comforting. I know how it's going to turn out. And the dog doesn't die.
Speaker C: I understand that completely. It's like watching mash. I've seen those episodes I don't know how many times, but sometimes you just need to go with what a friend of mine and I call comfort food.
Speaker A: Yes. Yeah. Big Bang Theory is one of those are Hogan's Heroes. I think we have both memorized all of the scripts for Hogan's Heroes. But you know, we'll turn that on and watch them again.
Speaker C: And I think that's absolutely wonderful to do. There are times when you just need to know when and how to step away. Given my weekend, I've got a funeral that I need to be at tomorrow morning. Beloved deacon in our church. She was also a German teacher at the college that I graduated that I got my bachelor's and one of my masters at. And the consistent story was she was everybody loved her and if you weren't a little afraid of her, you hadn't really met her. Info kisses.
Speaker A: Was there a comment in there
Speaker C: real quick? Theta for the the long haired cats. The there's a thing called a furminator. F U R furminator.
Speaker A: Look it up.
Speaker C: It's kind of a thatching rake for their fur.
Speaker A: Works pretty well.
Speaker C: Chaos of th.
Speaker A: Yes, I am familiar with the Furminator, but Dan, I think your current cat is the shorthair, right? So you don't have to worry too much about that.
Speaker C: Maeve is currently a shorthair. Just his little sweet tabico. I've also found that dipping them in Nair and holding it under them in the bucket for about 10 minutes works too with the long hairs.
Speaker A: Oh, that's mean.
Speaker C: And I think you know me well enough that I would threaten, but I wouldn't actually do it.
Speaker A: Yes, if you don't sit there and take this, I'm gonna. Yeah, I understand that. Well, very good. Well, I hope you have a good productive day and enjoy your day. You're supposed to have fun at work today, so there you go. That's the goal. Have fun at work.
Speaker C: She is on my lap and she is purring. So I will absolutely have fun. She'll probably stay here when the basset comes in in a little bit and smack at the basset. But they're, they're learning to be friends. You can tell they both like each other and respect each other. They're just still getting used to each other. So with all that, I will say 73 to you, Jerry and the net and 9 MUF.
Speaker A: Well, you have a great, great day. This is WA6CWF. This is the Coffee Breaknet KO6EBQ. Good morning, Steven.
Speaker E: And a fine morning to you, Theta and Jerry and the rest of the neck, Stephen K06EBQ. Yeah. So have fun at work day. Yeah. Hi.
Speaker C: Hi.
Speaker E: But I am going to take advantage of national expression day. I do have the trailer pulled in. The wife and I are going to escape up to Coloma Marshall Creek up there just for the weekend. Just to get away after all the holidays and all that. It's just time to regroup here. But looking forward to that.
Speaker A: Very good. I would ask if you're going to do some gold panning, but it's too cold to be standing in the water. Just enjoy the scenery and not be at home. Not be in amongst everything else that's been going on. That's a great plan.
Speaker E: Yes, exactly that. If I'm home, I'm always finding something that needs to be done. Then I realize the weekend's gone. Anyhow. It'll be a good time.
Speaker A: Theta.
Speaker E: Thinking about you. You said you don't know all that much about Mesh Corp. Well, I'm sure, I'm absolutely positive you're going to show up to the club meeting here on the 13th of February because you will learn all about mesh corps and spread spectrum from Jeff N5JEF. Looking forward to that and welcoming everybody to our new club room or facility there.
Speaker A: Yes, we will be there. In fact, maybe the most well attended club meeting that we've had in a long time. Everybody wants to go check out this new facility. I understand. The problem is you can't do little whispered conversations in the back of the room because it's set up such that it's going to. To pick up everything you say. So we're all going to have to take pieces of paper and pencils with us to pass notes.
Speaker E: Well, maybe you'll set up your mesh core and pass notes that way.
Speaker A: There you go. You can tell us how to do that. That will be.
Speaker E: I'm looking forward to it. I think it's going to be a great turnout. I'm sure there's going to be a couple hundred people there. Yep, absolutely.
Speaker A: What a prime time to have somebody going around tapping people for jobs for the Loomis Ham Festival. Oh, good. We're so glad you joined us at this meeting. Let's talk about the. These are the jobs. What would you like to do?
Speaker E: It's going to be a great time. I'm looking forward to it. With that, I need to run off to the chiropractor and get this back all put back together after the accident. So I'm going to say 7:3 to all and talk to you down the road here, KO6EBQ.
Speaker A: Well, I hope your back feels better and that you have a wonderful weekend out there camping. So good luck to you and we'll listen for a trip report when you come back next week. This is WA60WF for the Coffee Breaknet. KB6SSN Tom. Good morning, Tom.
Speaker D: Well, good morning, Theta and the net.
Speaker C: KB6SSN Tom here.
Speaker D: Yes, and I was just sitting here chuckling about the gentleman with the cats. It is said by people who know that if a cat purrs, you can domesticate it. If it roars, you can't. Well, in the purring category come mountain lions and cheetahs. And worldwide, they're kept as pets quite often. I knew one person who had a pet cheetah. They didn't live in the US But I did know one person who lived in the US Had a pet mountain lion. It was very friendly, it was very sweet and used to play kind of rough. But it was an interesting pet. But the question in both of them came to my mind is how do you pill them?
Speaker A: You have a really big pill thing and it's sturdy enough that they can't bite through it. Let's see, I read something that a mountain lion. No, it was the bear that could. The hippopotamus that can break a bowling ball. Okay, so we're not going to kill the hippopotamus. The cat probably still has a pretty good bite. Yeah, I think you're going to have to sneak it in some treat that they really like to eat.
Speaker D: That was my thought as well. Especially the mountain lion. I mean, he had teeth that, you know, I guess two, three feet. Two feet, two, three inches long. You know, those, those front fangs. What do they call them, incisors or whatever they are. I'm not a dentist. Sorry. But yeah, the. Yeah, the big teeth and small hand.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker D: No, I'm not sticking my hand in there. The interesting thing was, if he wanted your attention or what wanted you to go do something with him, he'd come up and literally, he wouldn't bite your leg. He would hold your leg at the ankle, and then he'd like, kind of tug, like, I want you to go this way. And if you walk that way, he'd let go and walk beside you and you'd follow him to whatever he wanted. But if you tried to pull away or whatnot, he'd just hold you there and the pressure would get a little bit more on the ankle, and you're like, no, I ain't doing it.
Speaker A: There was this group over in Eureka that were all part of this Miller, this company called Miller Miller's Off Road. And we were all part of that group. And we drive right all around the redwoods back trails and stuff. And there was one we went up and it was just, you know, ruts that were the size of a motorcycle. And I remember I had really good balance back then. It was just a little Suzuki, so I did fine. But I remember one guy with a Honda 350 falling into one of those holes and we all had to help him get out of there. I mean it was just a massive undertaking with all hands on deck.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, I'll bet. Yeah, that 350 was sort of a failed experiment with Honda. I had a 350 and I have to say that was probably the worst dirt bike I ever had.
Speaker A: It just did not. It just wasn't good.
Speaker B: Ergonomic wise, it was a real slug. But all that aside, you know, this
Speaker A: was back in the 80s so it was part of the learning experience.
Speaker B: But yeah, they're heavy and especially if you are on the downhill side of, you know, of a rut or a
Speaker A: hill,
Speaker B: it's nice to have more than one, buddy.
Speaker A: Yeah, they had old, I would say railroads, but they weren't railroads. The railroads were at the top of what I'm going to describe. It was called the big incline. And it was this long, long hill and everything was just all wet mud and ruts and you had to make it to the top of that hill. And I, I don't know if that, that guy with a 350 might have tried to go back, get back out of there after that experience he had. But yeah, it was quite, quite the place to be. And there, like I say, there was a railroad at the top of the hill of the big incline. And it went right across the top of what eventually became a very well protected national forest that just went right across the middle of nowhere. The redwoods above Eureka and Fortuna, Basically above that area. Yeah.
Speaker B: A lot of places have been closed
Speaker A: down for just that reason. And it became the Headwaters Forest, which was the story around the Headwaters Forest. One lady even lived in a tree for three years. So there were a lot of really radical people that wanted that type of happen. And it did happen.
Speaker B: Is that where the
Speaker A: whole spotted owl movement began? Well, a lot of the spotted owl movement started in Oregon, but yeah, that was part of it. They had this little bird called the murrelet down there. Spotted owls were around, but they, they were more not so much redwood birds, they were more like firs and pines a little higher elevation.
Speaker B: Yeah, I remember those days. They were pretty much trying to all
Speaker A: the old growth redwood.
Speaker B: I don't know, you know, and I get that, I get that. You know, you've got these big for profit companies that really don't care about the environment. They just want to make the big bucks and they'll cut down these magnificent trees and once they do, that's it.
Speaker A: Well, I grew up in it and I remember as a child, dad remarking, wow, all the big trees are gone and there goes a log truck full of toothpicks. Because second growth was so small. I was always amazed they could get a two by four out of a second growth. But yeah, the old growth went down to about 3%. But this one lady, I was working in a TV station, this one lady decided to live in a tree and her name was Julia Butterfly. And wow, she went through it. I mean it was absolutely. She, she just actually, seriously, she just barely made it. I mean she was right at the end of her life.
Speaker B: So was she up in this tree and you know, refused to come down because, you know, they'd have to pretty much kill her in order to cut this tree down. And I'm guessing that people would hoist food up to her and whatnot.
Speaker A: Yeah, that was the situation. And then the guards, they sent guards up there to keep people from hoisting food up to her. And, and then the people, the radical sent up a whole big group of people that surrounded the guards and danced and jumped around and acted like crazy people taking the guards attention away from what they were actually doing, which was figuring out a way to get food up to that lady.
Speaker B: Yeah, you know what, I do remember that, you know, I do remember that.
Speaker A: Only in Northern California. And then the TV station asked every, what they call photogs, which were people who were really good at handling cameras and all that sort of thing to go up and do because every, every news agency was going up to that tree to everybody had to get some kind of footage from that area. And, and they knew I was a hiker because I was at the time I was going up into the Cherny Alps every weekend. So they said, well, Mike, how I was an engineer, Steve, so I was a photog. But they asked me and I said, sure, I'll go. And you had to hike, you know, a couple thousand feet up the mountain to get to the tree. So it was, it was a backpack full of cameras and stuff. It was a pretty good hike. And I couldn't climb the tree. The tree was like. The first branches were like 50ft above the ground. And they managed to get. We managed to get this one lady up that tree though. And then I climbed a tree, a younger tree that was the top of. It was right at the level where the lady lived on a branch practically. It was quite an experience. Did any of your pictures get published
Speaker B: in a major publication?
Speaker A: Well, the lady that went up did a really, you know, I sent up a camera and she did a really good interview. And I don't know if anything, if anyone actually. I kept a what they called a 3 quarter inch Sony cassette of it. I might still have that, but other than that I don't think there's anything. But there are a whole ton of different interviews that people did and documentaries and so forth of that whole thing. So you can find a lot of stuff about Julia Butterfly.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm gonna look that up when I get back. That sounds like a good time waster.
Speaker A: Yeah, it was a pretty crazy time because these people were really radical and they went all over and they were wrecking equipment, wrecking logging equipment. And one of the things that happened in my life was that I was renting rooms at the time and at my house. And one of the kids, I call him a kid, he was like 19, 20, he got a job as a guard of some of this equipment and on his way home one night went off the hill and crashed and died. So that was quite an experience.
Speaker B: That sounds like part of the Monkey Wrench gang. Earth first movement.
Speaker A: Yeah, the Earth's first movement. I go over to Arcata and be having a burrito or taco in this one place and there'd be a table of bursters right next to me. And I remember one situation where I had this laptop that had this really good Internet and you had to reach Internet from across the street. And I had Internet and they didn't. And they were asking me, what. What do you have there? How are you doing that?
Speaker B: Well, that must have been in the mid 2000s if you were dealing with Internet.
Speaker A: Gee, it seems like it was a lot before that 90s. Sometime in the 90s, I think I left, I started becoming. I got out of engineering, became a raft guy about that time. Got out of it all. That's cool.
Speaker B: All right, Mike, I need to make a stop here, so nice talking to you. Thanks for traveling with me. I'm just pulling into the metropolis of Stony Fork and I'm going to stop here at the store and pick something up. 73. I didn't write your call sign down, but anyway, hope to talk to you again when I'm back up in these parts. Whiskey Six Tango Radio.
Speaker A: Whiskey Six Tango Radio. An easy call to remember. November 6th. Go, Radio, go.
Speaker B: N6grt.
Speaker A: Roger. Roger.
Speaker B: Very good. Wrote it down. Okay, 73.
Speaker A: 73. Yeah. Look up that situation. That was pretty crazy. Time to live through n6 grt.
Speaker B: Yeah, I sure will. Thanks for the info.
Speaker A: This.
Speaker B: And you go with him, but he was actually kind of a sweet cat. He'd cuddle with you and all kinds of stuff. But anyway, moving on from cats this morning, Larry and I dug into the Collins S line yesterday. We got the 75s1 receiver up and working. We got the 32s1 transmitter up and working. Then we got the 30l1amplifier up and working for a period of time. Something went terribly wrong, and it. Well, not terribly wrong, but something went wrong in it as we were about two hours into the operation on it. So that's going to need some research and repair. But the rest of it, you know, it's. There's some alignment issues and there's, you know, a few little things here like that. But, my gosh, you could tell this was the Rolls Royce in its day.
Speaker C: Morning, Tom. WA6C. Well, congratulations on getting it up and running. And the L1, what kind of tubes does it have in the final?
Speaker B: The 30L one has four 811 as in it, all four of them. Interesting.
Speaker C: I thought it might use some of the old imac tubes. Well, you know, why is that old capacitor somehow stick in the back of my mind?
Speaker B: Well, yes, Something started arcing in there in idle mode, just sitting there. We weren't even transmitting at the time, and all of a sudden something started arcing in it. Luckily, the switch was inches from my hand, so I just turned it off real quick. So, yeah, something gave. No big deal. It was expected, to be honest with you, the other two radios, the transmitter and the receiver. The receiver, when we first turned it on, didn't work worth a darn. And we're like, okay, so let's troubleshoot this puppy. And we're just about ready to get into it, and all of a sudden, bang. It came on with a bang. And not a bang, but a pop. And it came on and we're like, oh, okay, that's interesting. And we turned it off and we turned it. We did a little reading. You have to wait for that crystal oscillator to warm up in the thing before it will receive. We didn't know this. And it's kind of like learning a new language, Jerry. And you know how it is with those people that speak different languages. They have a different word for everything.
Speaker C: Yeah, it's amazing how that works. Well, you have to learn how to speak Collins. Cosmetically. How do they look?
Speaker B: Well, you could go on to the YouTube channel and take a look at them. I posted two videos of them. And the other atlas that we did. We did three radios yesterday. A Drake receiver that came on. You can see it's receiving rf and you can hear because of a slightly scratchy pot that the AF amp is working, but somehow it's not making it through the if stage, from the RF stage to the AF stage. So we're going to have to get in there and play with that. Then we hooked up the atlas. And of course, an atlas, it works. It had a lifted ground on the microphone, so there was some RF getting into it. But once that was corrected, it is my current experience that you can't break an atlas. So we're working on it. Well, no, we're not trying. We're just working on making them work. And then we put up the Collins and it took the major portion of the day just to. I mean, there's certain things we haven't figured out yet, like how to make it transceive. There's connections that it's saying that we should make that we just weren't able to find right away. So I'm going to have to get out some photographs and some charts and whatnot and find out where those plugs are and that kind of thing. But as a separate receiver and transmitter, we were able to get it up and running just fine. And it was receiving. Boy, that VFO. It's only a 200kC VFO. Moster 500. It's only a 200kc VFO, but boy, talk about smooth and accurate and band spread for days. I mean, you could turn that thing a half a turn and you're still on the signal. You know, it's just. It's amazing.
Speaker C: Wow, only 200 KC. I don't know how you doom the whole band. Well, I'll have to go over and as soon as I give the mic back to Theta, I'm going to go over to Confederate Sun 1 and check out this thing. There was always something about going into the Mars stations. I volunteered at the Air Force Mars stations, wherever I was. And you'd walk in and the place was loaded with Collins equipment from one end to the other. KWM2AS, as well as the receivers and transmitters and so forth. And there was just this smell. It's like when you walk into Barnes and Noble, you know, that book smell. It's the same thing for to walk
Speaker B: into
Speaker C: a Mars station, smell all that Collins equipment. It just brings back memories. Maybe they ought to make a spray that smells like Collins equipment being used and sprayed around hro.
Speaker B: Well, I do know that they make an air freshener Called that new car smell, which outgassed vinyl. I don't know what that smell is. But in any case, yeah, there is an air freshener with that scent. So, yeah, making the new radio smell I should too difficult, I wouldn't think. And it's all a matter of luck. Which leads me to my next topic here. Was reading this morning about. Now, I don't know if this is a man who has bad luck or a woman who has bad luck, but somebody in this equation has bad luck. And that is there was a. In the 1950s, around 1957 or so, there was a now hall of famer baseball player named Richie Ashburn. And Richie Ashburn was at Batman in 1957 and he hit a foul ball that went into the crowd and hit this poor woman in the face. Broke her nose. Bloody mess, terrible thing. Anyway, they got her on a stretcher on a gurney and they're taking her out of the stadium and there's a tunnel that goes from the field out of the stadium to the parking lot for the players to use or to the, you know, area that the players use. And they just wheeled her into that. Well, they continued the game after she was wheeled into the tunnel. And Richie Ashburn comes up to bat again and lo and behold, his second pitch, he hits another foul ball that goes directly down that tunnel and hits that poor woman again.
Speaker C: Oh no, she should have bought a lottery ticket. It was just her time. I had threat about that, but poor girl. Now see, there's the difference. That's a 1957 story. And in 2026, the story would be she sued the stadium, she sued the baseball team, she sued the player, and they settled for an undisclosed amount
Speaker B: and poor Richie Ashburn was declared a domestic terrorist or something. Yeah, yeah, I see that coming. Anyway, if you want to take a look at the work that Larry and I did yesterday, there is, there are three new videos up on Confederate sun, one, if that hit you at all. And yeah, Larry and I have been talking about possibly expanding some of what we do in these videos. We're not quite sure yet. I don't want to be a YouTube creator or that type of thing. But on the other hand, I think that maybe there's some explanation that needs to go with the, with the radios and that type of thing as opposed to just showing the radio. Those that know, know. But there's a lot of people out there that don't know and might be helped by, you know, understanding what they're seeing. So anyway, we've been discussing that along those lines, I bought Larry and I brand new lab coats. His has his name on it and says chief Technician on it. So there you go. He's going to be proudly wearing his lab coat soon.
Speaker C: Oh, my God. Next thing you know, we're going to have videos up and you're going to look like Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant Beaker fixing radios. On an unrelated subject, as you came on to talk, I was reading an article here about unused or underused gift cards. They're warning people, go find them out of your drawers and use them. According to the New York State Comptroller's office, there's nearly $55.5 million in gift card balances in the New York City alone. People who have bought these gift cards and have not been redeemed. And in New York, apparently, you only have five years to do it. What a great way to make money. Sell gift cards. And they never get used. I'm going to give this back to Theta and go look at the confederates on one and look at the vertical shorts.
Speaker B: This is stubby asic. Well, I did post a landscape version and a vertical short of the same. Well, not exactly the same thing, but the same radio. So you can look at it widescreen or narrow screen, it's your choice. The atlas I just did in narrow screen, we've already done an atlas, so that was not a big deal. But this one's actually cosmetically better than the first one. And gosh, you just said something that triggered a thought. But talking about that, I forgot about it. Oh, well,
Speaker A: Jerry's looking at the pictures.
Speaker C: Speaker, speaker. And the 32, though, that's a 70, 75 S1. Boy, almost looks brand new.
Speaker B: Well, I will tell you, the speaker is a counterfeit, and we discovered that yesterday. Larry spotted it first. He said that emblem's at an angle. And I know that emblem is pinned. It's not just glued on. So it's pinned. And I know that Collins would not pin it at that angle. That would never have made it past qc. So we started inspecting the speaker. And the cabinet is of modern manufacture, like, you know, in the last five years, 10 years maybe. And you spin it around, and the driver in it is a very, very high end, coaxial, Radio Shack car stereo speaker that's in there. And yeah, nothing about it is Collins. The winged emblem on the front of the speaker is the only part that is actually Collins in that entire speaker setup. It looks right, it sounds good. There's no issue with it, but yeah, it's a counterfeit.
Speaker C: Watching your movie? I'm now looking, I've stopped on that frame where the speaker is shown, and I will admit I'm not a Collins expert, but I would never have picked up that that emblem up there at the top wasn't put on correctly. You guys are getting to be real sleuth.
Speaker B: Well, we both suffer from different flavors of ocd and where one drops out, the other one seems to pick up. And yeah, Larry's big thing is that everything's got to be level and straight, which is great because you're getting all the feet and all the radios exactly the same, so that when we put them on display, they will be, you know, nice straight line across. That's perfect. But yeah, he spotted that crooked emblem right off the top. And at first I said, oh, yeah, these things happen. Then I started thinking about it and I thought, no, you know, Collins would have never let that out of the shop with that crooked like that. So we spun it around and started looking in the back and we're like, oh, this is not column.
Speaker C: No, but it's the right color. And if you can't find the real one, that'll do in a pinch. And you just have to disclose to those who are looking at it it's not the original. Congratulations on doing all that. It's looking really nice. I'm glad you guys are having a good time. You're going to need 3 or 400amp service to whatever house you buy to run all these things.
Speaker B: Well, luckily, being single, I could only. Well, to the best of my knowledge, I could figure out only a way to operate one or two radios at the same time. You know, FTA can kind of run on its own, but. Yeah. So I don't predict all of these being online at the same time, but I'm going to need a rather healthy 220 service for some of these amplifiers that are going to be plugged in. And yeah, the next on the list here, I'm going to have to get my buddy Darius to help me get it into the van. But the next on the list here is the big Henry floor amp. So we're going to pull that puppy out and get it wheeled over to Larry's there and hook that thing up. And yeah, we're going to find out exactly what that Ultimax antenna can handle, sir.
Speaker C: So when it gets rainy or foggy, it better be glowing blue up there when you got the key down. I understand what you're saying about operating them all at once, but you remind me of people. You walk into their ham shack and all the radios are on because you got to keep them warmed up or they drift.
Speaker B: Well, not only that, you also want to keep the caps free of moisture, too. And having them on does that. So, yeah, what do they draw an amp or two when they're sitting at idle? Just on with the light bulbs and stuff. So, yeah, that means I can have, what, 10 radios on at the same time. Right. Anyway, it's a fun project, and we're having a good time with it, and hopefully I will have a home soon to erect all of this and get it all up and running, and then I'll start handing out the invitations to come over and see if you can break it.
Speaker C: That sounds like a challenge. Well, I'm going to give this back to Theta. Congratulations on the project. It's looking really good, and it keeps you entertained. This is WA68 audios.
Speaker B: Yes. My enemies are very, very happy with the fact that I have something to distract me and I'm not focusing on them. So there you go. Have a great morning, guys. My best to everyone there, including the pets. And, yeah, you know, I think I could see an advantage to having a pet cheetah. Can you imagine if a burglar broke into your home and you had a cheetah sitting in your living room, just kind of looking at him, he might think twice. I don't know. KB6SSN7 3.
Speaker A: Jerry says a Doberman has the same effect and is maybe a little bit more reliably tame. Someone referred to cats as. The cats domesticated themselves, that we didn't domesticate them, so. And they still know that they're in charge. Well, you have a great day and have a great weekend. Nice talking to you or listening to you talk about your radios. Glad you're having fun getting those things all up and working and creating a masterful museum of old radios. Jerry's still looking at pictures. Anyway, you have a great day. This is WA60WF. Okay. K6DXN. Good morning, Simone. Are you still with us?
Speaker B: Hi.
Speaker D: Good morning, Theta.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm still here.
Speaker C: I've
Speaker D: got some more coffee is playing around on af. I just worked a station in Serbia on ssb and I'm always hunting for parks. And, yeah, I went and did a park activation yesterday with Jimmy and got my kilo award, which is 1,000 contacts from the same park. In this case, it was a Folsom state recreational area, so I was pretty stoked about that. I set up my little Zygoo G90 on a wire and got like 73 contacts yesterday, I think, but I just needed 25 to get that thousand contacts. And dawn is down in Southern California,
Speaker B: so there will be no trivia, at
Speaker D: least not from her tonight. She's down visiting her brother, so I'm playing Bachelor for four days.
Speaker A: Well, first of all, congratulations on getting your Kilo Award. That's quite an accomplishment. A thousand contacts from the same park. I didn't know that was a thing, but congratulations. That's very good. Something to hang on your wall. And so Dawn's out and no trivia tonight, which means there will be free range unregulated trivia tonight, which has its own flavor, but it's certainly more restful when Don does it.
Speaker D: I would encourage people to just bring up some trivia questions. If I'm here and by a radio, I'll do my part. I'm gonna go spend time with my grandkids and my daughter today. I'm not sure what time I'm gonna get back, probably have dinner with them. I would encourage people to just bring up. And you can search for music trivia, you could search for feature. I mean, there's a ton of trivia online. Obviously don't tell anybody what page you're reading it from, so they can't cheat, but if that's their thing. But that's what I would do. That's what I've done in the past. So I would encourage that. That way you, you know, if any. Ever if people or three people, Tom, Ray, whoever have, you know, 20 questions that should get you through the hour. But again, apologies, but, you know, family first and all that. But we'll try to get back to it in a couple weeks. And she needed to go down there and help her brother out. He's in an assisted living place and he's the only family she's got left. So I talked to her this morning and I'm just trying to encourage her. And she's struggling seeing how he's living, and she can't wait to get out of LA and come back up here. I'll tell you that we are blessed to be living in a beautiful place like El Dorado County. I'm to the point where if I go even to Sacramento or any city, I just can't wait to get back out of the city.
Speaker A: I agree with you completely. We were talking, we had dinner with some friends last night and they had had to go down to Los Angeles for something. She said it's seven lanes of traffic and they're all going 70 miles an hour sitting six inches from your bumper. She was never so glad to get away from any place in her life. So, yeah, no fun down there. But I'm glad that she is down there helping her brother out, and I hope that she can be of some good use to him and help him get in a better situation. So that's hard. We'll manage without her. Like I say, it's more fun when she. It's calmer when she's keeping things well in hand. But we'll manage. I have my favorite trivia page, although certain people whine about my questions being too hard. That's okay. They'll survive. Well.
D.
Speaker A: And yeah, listen in tomorrow, I'm sure you can throw a few questions in too.
Speaker B: Comment.
Speaker C: They will tune in. Like I said, I'm gonna go spend some time up in Placerville with my. My daughter and my grandkids. And if I'm home tonight, I'll definitely turn it on. And thanks for taking my check in. You and Jerry and Rocky, have a great day. And everybody out there, have a wonderful weekend. It's not terribly warm, but it is pretty. Go out and get some sunshine. I enjoyed sitting in the park yesterday at Folsom in the sun. And I'm really lucky to have a friend like Jimmy and other friends that like to go out and do things and get me out of the house. And now I'm gonna go spend time, like I said, with my family. So a little later on this afternoon. So have a great day. Thanks for doing that. Kilo 6. Oh, yeah. I'm gonna have a video up. We shot a lot of video yesterday. I should have a video up. And I thank Tom in my video because he gave me a really cool little 3D printed accessory for my Zygoo G90 that I won at your last year's Christmas party or the year before last. Now he made me a little 3D printed baffle that goes on top of the radio and I put it on my radio in the video. And I. And I thank Tom in the video. So parks in the dark. The video should be up over the weekend sometime if anybody wants to watch our activation and how I set up my antenna and there we go. I don't know. It's not everybody's jam. There's people that watch other people play video games online. I don't get that.
Speaker B: But hey,
Speaker A: Always a pleasure, Simone and Parks in the dark. Okay, we will check that out. You have a great day and enjoy visiting with your family. This is WA6CWF. Let's hear MB7IUK. Jerry says he saw you pop up. Are you still with us? Don't see him now. Jerry says he may have had to go to bed. Greg K06th good morning. Good morning, Theta. Good morning, Jerry.
Speaker D: Good morning, everyone. Kind of a so so morning this morning in terms of the weather and stuff.
Speaker A: But we'll see what happens.
Speaker D: Haven't figured out what I'm doing today yet. Just wanted to check in and say hi. Miscellaneous projects. The kids from the Monterey area coming up today. And I think they're going just straight to Lincoln. So I'll join them tomorrow at some point. Probably miss breakfast, but family comes first. So we'll see what happens there too. Anyway, kind of having a weekend playing it by air.
Speaker B: Ko6th.
Speaker A: Family first, always. What fun. You will enjoy that visit.
Speaker D: Yeah, it's about a time and we haven't gotten together in a while, so it should be good. The space station came by over the east coast, over North Carolina. They had a school contact, listened in via the Internet. And the one question, the one question I wanted to hear their answer to, they had a fade out and. And I didn't hear it. So I have no idea what the answer was. The question was what do on the space station you're not allowed to do? And I just died to find out
Speaker A: what their answer was.
Speaker D: But we missed the answer, so I have no idea. Anyway, such as it is.
Speaker B: K06th.
Speaker A: That's a great question. What do you want to do as opposed to what you're allowed to do? Yeah, I can imagine that there are some fun answers to that one.
Speaker D: Yeah, a lot of the normal questions, you know, what does it feel like blasting off into space? So why are you doing this? Given how dangerous it is? Let's see, where's your favorite view? Out the windows. I forget what some of the ones. What is something you saw in space that no photo or video would ever show? Talk about UFOs and stuff. I guess there. How much water is used on the space station? A trick question because they recycle everything. I mean some of it's got to get used up and included in the people that are there as part of their being. But the rest of it gets recycled and they do a good job of that. So anyway, no minimum age for the space station. A couple other questions. But yeah, it's fun to listen in.
Speaker A: You know, they publish.
Speaker D: Usually they publish the questions before, beforehand and you kind of just jot down your, you know, mentally jot down what you think the answers are going to be. See how close you come. But that's one question I was like, kind of what?
Speaker B: I want to know what they.
Speaker A: What was the answer.
Speaker D: So anyway, maybe somebody on the east coast was listening on RF and heard it. Let me know.
Speaker A: Ko 68 or that may be a question you get to ask the next time they come over. No, I guess you'll have to get a kid who's involved in one of those contact things and things and ask them to ask that when they come over. When you can hear it anyway, it's fun to make up answers as to what it might be. Isn't that true? You have a great Day Greg and thanks for checking in. Say hi to Millie for us. Will do, will do.
Speaker D: And use the furminator that time she got a dethatching of the fur. Ko68 symmetry everybody have a good weekend.
Speaker A: WB1G Smitty, you snuck in through the. Through the back door here. And our secret entry point for the getting on the list. Are you still with us?
Speaker D: I am.
Speaker B: Can you hear me okay?
Speaker A: I can. Whatcha up to?
Speaker B: Well, hello and good morning theta. Yeah, it's nice when you've got a back channel and back channel. By the way everybody is WA6E. Oh, I just gave away my secret. Good morning. I just wanted to come in and out and say good morning. It's always a pleasure hearing you guys especially on a Friday with a little tom flop for neck control. Just wanted to send a quick welcome out to some of our other listeners today. Today is the first official day that the coffee breaknet is being simulcasted throughout the remainder of Northern California. Some friends up in the north part of the state have linked us up where we are now heard on a high level repeater on the northwestern side of the valley which covers from where W6ek starts to fade away as you go north to Chico and the north part of the state. Williams, all of that as our repeater starts to fade away. There's a repeater up in the North State on 4715 that now is going to be carrying the coffee break full time 365 days a year. So if you're part of the state. Good morning. Hello to all of you listeners on the W6 GRC. Peter up in the north state. So good morning. That's all I had. I just wanted to say good morning and covers from again where we start to fall off up until north of Reading. Almost, almost state border. So There you go. WB1G back to you.
Speaker A: Well, we shall be even more famous for going farther, going farther, faster. Wasn't that the. The six million dollar man. The six million dollar repeater. Very good. Well I'm glad that there are more people who might be listening to us. We certainly want to keep more people entertained as they start their day.
Speaker D: Question?
Speaker B: Yeah, apologies. I was at 5 watts from Rockland to Red Mountain northwest of Orleans. So I just bumped my power up a little bit. I'm actually coming through that repeater right now. So I'm not, not coming through EK coming through that way. So yeah, I just wanted to say good and hopefully I'm too bad I don't have good line of sight to this machine. But at any rate, welcome North State listeners. That's all I got. WP1G73. Guys give Jerry a well enough style. I'll keep that to myself. When? Until the next time I see him. WP1G.
Speaker A: Okay. Nothing needs to be said. There was a comment. Go ahead. Comment.
Speaker B: This is KK6SNG. I was just wondering if we can get that repeater information again. Since I work up in the North State a lot.
Speaker D: Oh, you bet.
Speaker B: Standby. Okay. The Repeater is the W6 GRC repeater. It's actually brand new. It just got relaunched. The pair's been on the air for a long time, but this repeater hasn't had the most stable history. But. 147105. 14715. It's a plus offset. And the tone. Oh, boy. I've got the tone program in. If you give me a minute, I'll grab the tone.
Speaker E: I have the tone if you want kg6 and I'll tell you.
Speaker B: Well, go for it. Yeah, it's a plus standard offset 147105. For those of you that head up to the northern part of the state. Tone is 110.911 0.9. But is that correct? Is that what you have on record?
Speaker E: That is what I have on record, Smitty. Good morning to you, KG6NLW.
Speaker B: Thank you very much. Just to read back, it's 147.105 plus and then 110.9 on the tone. You got it. And that's up high up top, over 3,000ft up on red Mountain overlooks Orland, the whole. That whole area of the valley from the Yuba City, Caloosa. It does great in Calusa, where we're kind of shadow, where our transmitter shadowed all the way up north of Reading. So real solid coverage there. All right. I won't take up any more time.
Speaker A: Shameless.
Speaker B: Plug for my good friends up there in repeater in this group pretty well.
Speaker E: So.
Speaker B: So they just want to increase usage up there and get hams more on VA back, more on VHF and UHF up there. So that's our goal, folks. You North State people. Don't be shy. Grab that mic and check in.
Speaker E: All right.
Speaker B: I've taken it way more time than I thought I was going to Theta, back to you. Thank you so much, W1G.
Speaker A: Well, thanks for the information, Smitty. Glad to see know that there are people up there. And KG6NLW. Frank, you've checked in with us before. Nice to know that we're getting a little bit farther afield.
Speaker E: Well, if it is my turn Theta, I'll take it. Otherwise, I'll wait until the next round. Good morning.
Speaker A: We're right here talking to you, so you may as well go ahead and tell us about yourself.
Speaker E: All right, I can easily do that. I'm actually coming in through All Star because unlike everyone else, I'm not in the Central Valley. I'm in the northern part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Little tiny town called Cloverdale. About 8,000 or so people as far as on the 101 corridors you can go before you hit the Emerald triangle of the south end of Mendocino County. But I've been out here, you know, on and off Central Valley repeaters for years. I'm currently the current net control station for the N6ICW at NorCal swap while Armand is taking care of medical stuff and getting that that done. I've been doing it for almost a year now, so there's that. I also have a smallish YouTube channel. Brian knows all this, but you and Jerry and others might not. I have a smallish YouTube channel. It's under my call sign KG6 November Limawiski NLW and I actually overnight and into mid morning or so stream random live streams of audio from the two meter machines and my All Star node. So right now all of this is going out over the Internet as well. So yeah, if there's five people watching actually.
Speaker D: So there you have it.
Speaker E: So Thursday nights I know you guys have your club Net, Club Net and club meetings on that time. But Thursday nights 8pm for NorCal Swap and then I have Fridays with Frank at 5pm local on my social media, YouTube, Twitch etc etc. Other than that, not much else going on here. Good to hear Smitty and all the regulars out there. And with that I'll turn it back to you Theta and I'll be listening Kilo Golf 6 November Lima Whiskey. Have a good morning Coffee Break Net.
Speaker A: Well thanks for the information and thanks for checking in. Look forward to talking to you more at a later time. This is WA6EWF and this is the Coffee Breaknet. The things coming up this coming Monday the February 2nd February, February already we are having. We're having VE testing at 7pm at the Confluence Church campus in Auburn and then if you missed that one Feb. 14 at 9am at the Raley Events center on Douglas and Auburn Folsom Road. And if you missed that one. Oops. Nope. The third Thursday in February will be The Folsom Bee team testing at 6pm in Folsom and you can find out all the details on hampsteady.org so let's see tomorrow is the club breakfast at Mel's diner on Highway 49 in Auburn at 7:30am Although I understand you have to get there early if you plan on sitting at the big table and that will be followed by a fox starting out from the parking lot at mells and Graydon. KC6SLE is going to be the fox tender so that's something to look forward to. Orion has started an extra license class from 7 to 9 on the Zoom session on the Zoom channel on the zip for the club. The first one was day before yesterday I think Tuesday but I'm sure that you can get through caught up with that. If you go to check in with that and there are two in person labs those are a few things happening. I also wanted to mention Hamfest. I started to say something about that when we were talking about the upcoming meeting on the 13th. Hamfest is March 28th at 7am if you want to buy a It's not a booth, it's a parking space to sell stuff that's $10. You can find it on our website where you can sign up for that and otherwise come and enjoy the Ham fest and if you are so inclined and we hope you are, offer to help out. There are a lot of little jobs and the more people who sign up for them the less anybody has to do. So those are some of the things going on with our club. So let's carry on. This is WA6EWF for the coffee Breaknet who is out there if you want to be an in n out let me know. I'll put you at the top of the list.
Speaker E: Ada, I have one more for you. It's a fun little breakfast that happens. Leave Sacramento if you want.
Speaker A: QV
Speaker B: Kilo, Charlie 6 Sierra, Lima, Echo, KK 6am
Speaker A: K through VPM in out please.
Speaker B: K4lgi in and out.
Speaker A: All right, first of all, before I run everybody down, KG6NLW had an additional comment. Go ahead.
Speaker E: Yeah, Zeta. This is open to all. It's not a club, it's just a bunch of hams getting together. Brookfields is the first Friday of the month. Breakfast 4343 Madison Avenue in Sacramento. If anyone is interested, it's usually held the first Friday of each month. We're not sure if this coming Friday is going to be a thing. John KJ6JD usually coordinates that and he has a scheduling conflict. So if you're interested in that, come on by Thursday night to the ICW repeater and see if he's able to get.
The Gears Net will be held Tuesday night starting at 7:30pm all amateur radio operators are welcome to join in on the net W6 RHC repeater check 2.
Speaker A: That going? Otherwise, we'll see you the following month.
Speaker B: Thank you, theta.
Speaker C: That's it for now.
Speaker B: Well, thank you for the information. Okay, let's see who I've got here. I've got sam, k4lgi, you're an in and out. I'll get right to you. Ka3 victor. Go, mike. Jimmy, you're at in and out. I will come back to you. Kk6am, ray, kc6sle, graydon and kc8fqv. Did we miss anybody?
Speaker D: N2dyi.
Speaker B: K6gqp, india delta victor,
Speaker D: kilo, november 6, november uniform foxtrot,
Speaker E: Kd3han. In and out.
Speaker B: All right, let's see. So we added kd3.
Speaker F: Wait a minute.
Speaker B: Aw, we've got you, aj. Never mind. Ko3 ajn, kn6nu, f1 that ended in idv. We didn't get the whole call. What is your call, please?
Speaker A: Kilo, oscar 6, india, delta victor. This is dan.
Speaker B: Okay, dan, we got you. K6 dcf, dcp. Jerry, my scribe is writing these things down for me and. Yeah, never mind. N2dyi, patrick. So I think that that is my list. And so I will come back to my in and out. Jimmy. I did k3 vgm. Good morning.
Speaker G: Good morning, beta. K through BGM. Warm 12 degrees back in Pennsylvania. So I hope you guys are a
Speaker D: lot warmer than we are.
Speaker G: But that's actually warmer than it was yesterday. Talk to you later.
Speaker B: Thanks, bye. Oh, my goodness. Yes, we are much warmer than that, thankfully. I'm so sorry. Keep bundled up and don't slip on the ice. Let's see. K4 lgi. Sam. Good morning.
Speaker H: Good morning, theta, Denver. About 40 degrees. Not too much here. I just finished about a year of going in and out of the dentist, getting this stubborn bone growth and finally learned to take four of those gummies a day. And it just took off and worked great. And a few things like that. I did find out there was a. There's between teeth brushes, there was three or four grades of them, very fine and larger and all that.
Speaker I: That's about it from here.
Speaker A: K4LGI.
Speaker H: See you later.
Speaker B: Very good. Thanks for checking in. Let's see. Mark, KC8SQV. Good morning. All right.
Speaker F: Yeah.
Speaker A: KCF, QV.
Speaker F: It got cold last night here in the car. Last night was seven below. Looked at the thermometer hanging outside, it was 20 below this morning, the sun. So that's good.
Speaker A: But.
Speaker F: Yes. Found another net this morning while listening to the morning grind out in Pennsylvania. Another night out there. A weather net in the morning. 62654. So I'm going to stop there in the morning. I already checked it out and there was someone there so it worked. But great hearing all these nets and hearing all the information has passed. So hopefully everyone's doing good.
Speaker A: Hopefully I get better.
Speaker F: Well, I just had the flu shot the other day Wednesday from the doctors. It knocked me out a little bit but he said I didn't see a nosville.
Speaker A: So you didn't have it yet. So that's good.
Speaker F: So let's send it back to net
Speaker A: case F K.
Speaker B: My goodness. Minus 20 this morning. Stay inside and bundle up if you have to go out. That just sounds very grim. So hopefully you stay warm and thanks for checking in. This is WA6EWF KC6SLE Graydon. I have been trying to advertise your Fox Hunt. Points out that kd3ajn was a, an in and out. So. Anna, good morning.
Speaker E: Hello Feyda and Jerry.
Speaker J: Just spending some time at home. It's too cold to go outside. We haven't been out all week. Cleaned out some stuff I'm going to send to my grandkids because I don't want it here anymore. And that's about all I've been doing except the other thing was playing radio. I've been on several nets and morning and this I think is the fourth one.
Speaker E: So everybody have a good weekend and stay warm. KD3AJN.
Speaker B: You know, when the grandkids get that stuff you're sending to them, they're going to say why did she send us this? Just of the perpetual motion of, of moving things from one place to another. We understand that our kids have already told us whatever it is you want to give us, we don't want.
Speaker E: Well, Theta, I'm sending it to their house anyways. They can do what they want with it.
Speaker B: That's right. Or as we used to say in the Air Force, an action transferred is an action complete. So you complete that action and send it off to them and let them worry about it. Well, you have a great day Anna and enjoy your continued cleaning out efforts.
Speaker E: I will do that and you too. Have a good weekend. KD3AJN
Speaker B: back to Graydon. KC6SLE, are you back with us?
Speaker I: Hello Theta. Good evening or good evening. Good morning to the net. Yeah, I'm back. Just wanted to check in, say hi. Thanks for promoting Fox Hunt tomorrow. I think you've given out all the information on that so I will not repeat it. So just wanted to check in. I know you got a big list out there. Hope you and Jerry are doing fine. KC6SLE
Speaker B: we're doing just great. And likewise to you and Lisa. So you two have a lovely day and go out and enjoy the sunshine, which apparently is in kind of a rare event across the country today.
Speaker I: The sun's shining here. You know, it's a little gray. It's kind of a mixture of blue and gray, but it's not bad. I can't complain about the weather we've had lately.
Speaker H: It's been good.
Speaker B: 73 KC6SLE7 3 Good morning, Ray. KK 6am Good morning.
Speaker A: Just a little confusion here. I hope Tom SSM is still listening because we discussed the fact that this wouldn't be a first or third Friday. So we weren't expecting trivia tonight. So I guess now it's trivia with data but need to make sure everybody knows about it. Then of course, then next week is the first Friday and that'll be trivia again.
Speaker B: A gracious. Plenty of trivia. Yes, Trivia with theta. Yeah. Okay, I can do that.
Speaker A: We appreciate it. And everybody else, hopefully other people are listening and they'll have some questions available and we'll have fun as usual.
Speaker B: We always have fun. Yes. So we will try this out, come up with some questions. Everybody has a few in their pocket and we can maybe learn some things. Even
Speaker A: if you make Tom learn some things, he will be absolutely grateful.
Speaker B: Tom's brain's already too stuffed full of stuff. He doesn't need to learn anything new.
Speaker A: Now you know why we have some interesting conversations in the evening. A lot of the time don't hear Ryan or Rob here. They would probably agree or disagree. Same way Bob, too might have something to say about that. Hopefully Frank's out there because he always has good trivia, too.
Speaker B: All right. Well, there's something to look forward to this evening, so we'll be looking forward to questions from you and I'll have a few and we'll do this thing. Free range trivia, unconstrained, uncontrolled and somewhat chaotic.
Speaker A: Isn't that normal life on this repeater?
Speaker B: That's my experience. And isn't that nice? Don't we all enjoy that?
Speaker A: Well, in a lot of cases it reminds me of the early 70s. Well, actually up into the mid-70s, most repeaters were pretty unconstrained. And I guess that's a nice way of putting it and saying, God, I hope I can't get in trouble for something I did, you know, that many years ago.
Speaker B: Indeed, indeed. But that was the fun Thing, you know, And I think Brian always says that that's why he started this because he got tired of listening to people talk about the good old days when people actually talked on the repeater. And he's managed to recreate that where we now have a repeater that people talk on. Isn't that nice? Actually it is.
Speaker A: And like I said, a wide range of subjects and people makes it really interesting. Anyway, you still got a bunch of other people here. That's one thing I thought I better bring up why I could.
Speaker B: Well, gotcha. We'll be talking to you tonight. You have a great day. This is WA6EWF I. Good afternoon, Patrick into DYI.
Speaker D: Good morning Jerry and SATA and everyone on the west coast. And good afternoon to those of us who are on the East Coast. Boy, oh boy, oh man. A couple things. I don't know if KG6NLW is still listening. Frank, if you are, your. Your audio is way, way hot, your RX on your node is high and you're close to your mic. Those things are true. I am the guy who runs the one of the most active parrot nodes on the All Starlink system 55553. So anytime that happens, I have to point stuff like that out.
Speaker C: Oh, I'm still around. I thought that voice sounded familiar. All right, I'll back off the microphone. And I'm using one of the ALT scan by David Gleason notes.
Speaker B: And the. The volume is just barely creeped up.
Speaker C: So I'll have to adjust it some more. Thank you KG6NLW.
Speaker B: So there you go. So Patrick, it's Friday. Happy Friday.
Speaker D: Happy Friday indeed. Boy, Thursday. Thursdayed all over the Thursday yesterday. I mean it could not have been any more of a Thursday. Let me tell you some of the stuff that happened. So let's see. I went to a dentist office, was told that I needed a root canal.
Speaker I: That's always a good start.
Speaker D: I got two items that were damaged in shipping. I had to scrap a project that I've been working on for the last three days because everything was just going wrong beyond repair.
Speaker A: And.
Speaker D: Yeah, and then I discovered I had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic that I was prescribed. So definitely a Thursday.
Speaker B: Oh, that sounds like a Thursday. That just saved itself up for you.
Speaker D: No kidding. I mean it's not like I go out of my way for these things to happen, but Thursdays.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker D: Anyway, and so I have. On Monday I have an appointment at 11. Hopefully I'll be able to sneak in a quick check in before I walk into the before I have to sit in the chair. The dreaded chair. Not a guarantee, but I'll certainly try. And let's see, we're supposed to get anywhere from 5 to 8 inches of snow over the weekend. So maybe that appointment won't be happening. It's not going to be actually actively snowing on Monday, but this place kind of shuts down at the slightest provocation. Here in central North Carolina, we're still kind of recovering from the last storm. There's still plenty of streets and parking lots and driveways that are still iced over. It hasn't stayed above freezing long enough to melt and stay melted.
Speaker I: So we're going to get a bunch
Speaker D: of junk on top of that, I guess.
Speaker B: Fun times. I remember that from Dayton, Ohio, but Ohio tends to expect that kind of thing. And you guys don't.
Speaker D: Yeah, this has been, we haven't really had a winter like this since 2018. I remember 2018. I was trying to go back home, oh gosh, probably a little bit prior to mid January and couldn't get out of the house for about three days for various reasons. So that wasn't happening. And then when we did, my dad drove me to Charlotte. That's about a two hour drive from here to get to the airport that I didn't really want to fly out of but it was kind of the only option. It was 4 degrees. The heater in the truck didn't work and we weren't quite dressed for the occasion. So it was a, it was a cold two hour drive to Charlotte.
Speaker B: Oh my goodness, yes. Not, not a happy memory, that's for sure. It's hard to carry on a conversation when everybody's teeth is chattering. No kidding.
Speaker D: Oh well, it is what it is. So Greg emailed me a few days ago. He was here earlier, he was talking about that, that school contact with the ISS and I had every intention of checking that out because I'm in right now. I was in what would have been the footprint at the time. Pretty easy. Just probably step out on the back porch and pull out the HT and listen for the ISS frequency. And I had every intention of doing that. And the antibiotics said no, you are not doing that. I missed about four hours of my life very suddenly looked at the time, it was 8 o' clock and I looked at the time again and it was 11:30. So whoops, that didn't happen. So Greg, I'm afraid I can't answer that question for you.
Speaker B: Well that's sad because now we all want to know the answer to that question because the things that we're all imagining are getting from pretty wild.
Speaker D: Yeah, some of those have, some of those have live streams and some of those are archived. I don't know if this is one of them but yeah, I guess it'll just remain a mystery for now. Chaos exchange comment.
Speaker B: Go ahead, Greg.
Speaker K: Yeah, Patrick, it was live streamed and the you go to live aris.org l I v e.a r I s s.org the live stream is there. They had a fade right when that question number four came by and we didn't hear the answer. So I, I saw the kid ask the question but on the live stream but we didn't hear the answer to her question so.
Speaker F: Oh well.
Speaker A: K06th.
Speaker D: Oh man, I missed that part. Oh well, yeah, I guess we just won't know.
Speaker B: Well, we'll continue to make up our own stories. Let's see, this is National Storytelling Week, so that's a good topic for storytelling.
Speaker D: Well, there's enough of the week left that if you make up a sufficiently good long enough story, you can make.
K6lnk system 36, snow mountain range.
Speaker A: You know, a very long audiobook out of it if you're very careful. So, yeah, somebody. Somebody get on that.
Speaker B: Okay, definitely. Well, so they have you on a different antibiotic now.
Speaker A: I'm getting switched this. It's been prescribed, but it's not at the pharmacy yet. So, yeah, I'm switching hopefully in the next hour or so to a different one. See if this one works a little better.
Speaker B: Yes, it can be really nasty when those antibiotics or any other thing that they're giving you decide to step up and slap you in the face. So, yeah. Hope you get a good one.
Speaker A: Here's hoping and also hoping that things don't turn out to be worse after the. They did say that there are, there are probably other complications that need to be taken care of, but they wanted to get the root canal done first and it was one of those. They, they looked at it and they said, how long are you going to be in town? How soon can we do this? You never, you never want to hear that.
Speaker B: Well, on the other hand, that sounds pretty good to me. If you're having tooth problems, you don't want to hang around for three or four weeks.
Speaker A: Yeah, true. And it's definitely on Sunday night. It basically put me right on the floor. It was bad. It's not that bad now, but, oh, man, I have a pretty high pain tolerance and that just took me out for the day, basically. So I would really enjoy not having that problem anymore.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's the kind of situation where when the dentist says things like that, you say thank you very much.
Speaker A: Yeah. And then the virtual cash registers also thank me very much. Oh, well, anyway, I don't have too much more, so I'll let you get on to the next customer.
Speaker C: Have a great one, everyone.
Speaker A: And for those on the east coast, definitely stay cold.
Speaker B: The.
Speaker A: Yeah, do that. It won't be hard. Stay warm. I happened to look this morning and it was two degrees at home when I woke up.
Speaker B: So there you go.
Speaker A: It's not 2 degrees here, but we are going to be hitting single digits and we're, I don't think, going to be seeing above freezing for a good while yet. And if we do, it won't last. So that's all I got. 73 WA 6 EWF in 2 DYI.
Speaker B: Comment? Go ahead, comment. All right, Patrick, since you are the voice of the parrot, I am a two fists away from the mouth to radio ratio and I'm talking in my normal voice. How does this sound?
Speaker A: Audio level is just about right.
Speaker B: Fantastic. I'll try and remember, two fists away from the mouth. Thank you, KG6 and Elva. Yeah, have a good day, Patrick. Okay, let's see down the. Down the list. This is wa60wf case dave. Good morning.
Speaker D: Good morning. Theta I. I'm sitting here staring at my M1KE and didn't even. Didn't even know you knew I was here. I hope, I hope it was me. It sounded like K6DCL. Anyway, I'll keep talking and then if it's a mess, just let me know. Anyway, I have right hip problems which spreads down my whole right leg. So that's not fun having to use assist getting around. But I'm getting around and I'm not going to step. And other that radio wise my 3185 is working well as well as all the rest of the equipment is up and running except for hf. I don't leave that on only when I get in to do some connect contacts and things like that. But other than that, Lucy and I are going to have a good day. She's got one more biscotti to go. I don't have any left to go and she can't and she just handed it over to me. I don't think I can either, but I'll try anyway. Not much else to report. Just wanted to say hi to you and Jerry and Rocky and everybody. And yes, I feel for Patrick that the whole east coast is severe and very cold. I have a grandson that is in Baltimore because he works with the Ravens
Speaker B: and
Speaker D: he's off until March and then he goes back to work. And then my last child, my son, he and his wife live in Charlton, Massachusetts and they're absolutely freezing. So anyway, very cold back east and very nice up here. K60 seal. Thanks, Peter.
Speaker B: Well, you and Lucy break that discussion so that neither of you will have to suffer for very long. You can polish it off. Actually, you have to saw it in half. It's like most biscotti, you can't break it. You have a great day and Lucy too. So yeah, we will be comfortable and hope that our back east relatives manage to stay bundled up and warm. Better believe it.
Speaker D: I hope they do keep bundles up and warm. And that's what we're going to do here too. Even if it's not that cold. It's going to bust me in the 60s anyway. 7 3.
Speaker B: Talk to you later.
Speaker D: Cake 6 DCL.
Speaker B: You have a great day. Dave, this is wa60wf for the coffee breaknet. Who else is out there who wants to chime in and talk about whatever is important to you today. This is wa60wf. Wtvxgqp. Katie's excuse in it.
Speaker E: Ko6imp.
Speaker B: Let's see. I am told that I missed some people so I will come back to k. Let's see.
Speaker D: I talked to him.
Speaker B: Kn6n u f. And I did talk to anna. W2vx. I got you ko6qd6qzh and k06idp. Who else did I miss there?
Speaker C: Whiskey2 victor x ray,
Speaker B: kilos. Whiskey2 victor x ray. Got you on the list. Okay, let's see the guy I missed. Ko6idp. Is that correct?
Speaker E: Kilo, Oscar 6, India, Mike, Papa, Dan.
Speaker B: That was the call sign you gave. Ko6imp. We got you. Who else was was asking? Kn6nus. Good morning, Jerry and Theta.
Speaker C: I hope you guys are having a great morning.
Speaker B: Thank you for hosting the Net.
Speaker A: Good to hear.
Speaker B: You were one of the two I missed. Let me run through this list again just so that everybody knows. I got K06IMP and KM6nUF. W2VX, KD6QZH, KO6 oh, got you. IMP and KN6nUF. Got you. Okay, let's talk to Kate. 06IMP. I was supposed to have done you last round. Good morning.
Speaker E: Good morning. I believe this is the Matt. Have I got it?
Speaker B: You have it, Matt.
Speaker E: Good morning Zeta and the Net. I wish you all a happy Friday. The weather down here in Sheridan is doing pretty good. I am mobile this morning headed over to Woodland to meet up with the early morning roundtable crew from the Berryessa Amateur Radio Club and the Bark repeater. We just do a coffee every once in a while. Let me break. Yeah, I'm a little gun shy on timing out the repeater on the Bark net. Their repeater does seem to have kind of a. We'll just call it interesting idea of time. Sometimes it's a minute and a half, sometimes it's two minutes, sometimes it's 60 seconds. And it's not just because somebody picked up at the wrong time. It's just something weird going on there. But it makes it fun. Anyway. Yeah, heading out there. We're gonna if it's a welcome back for Daryl the Net control who has been off in the Philippines for about a month and a half or two months on vacation with his fiance. So all in all it's gonna be a good day and just wanted to say hello and thank you Zaina for running the the Net and I'll see you all on Saturday. Anybody's Gonna be at the breakfast and. And at the fox hunt. And Brian AI6us. I will see you after the fox hunt, I think, for a little bit of time to work on a small project. This is Matt K06 imp. I'm going to hand it back to you, Theta.
Speaker B: Very good. Have a great day.
Speaker D: Matt.
Speaker B: I'm glad you checked in. Sorry I missed you the first time around. I see N6 Nuf Joshua and I missed you. KN6 Muf Joshua. Okay, I'm rattled. Good. Oh, okay. Let's see. Doug W2VX. Good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning, Theta Jerry and all the furry little friends you have there. You know what, Theta? You're doing an absolutely excellent job. Just being a little rattled is a gold star. Because if I had your job in the mornings running the coffee break net,
Speaker B: I would be a basket case. Well, at least there are two of us. And Jerry can sometimes pick the names and the calls out of the. Out of the noise that I can't. On the other hand, his handwriting is absolutely abominable. So that's printing. Your printing is absolutely abominable. His handwriting's worse. Yeah. Well, okay. We'll manage. So how are you today?
Speaker C: I think life is treating me okay. I'm gonna do a few things that I think I can still do. I've, you know, I bought myself a Zygoo 6100x61. You know what? I'm going to get back into radio operating. I kind of miss it. And you know what? I just think I'm not going to be able to do it. It's just beyond me. And so I'm going to pick up a new hobby, like maybe knitting or something like.
Speaker B: Well, I cannot imagine that getting back into HF is beyond you, Doug. You can manage that?
Speaker C: I think I could get back into hf, but there are so many settings. There are so many different ways of hooking up sound and microphones and blah, blah, blah, between the computer and the radio. You know what? And I'm adhd, and so if it doesn't work right away, sometimes I just go, you know what? There's probably better things to do with my time.
Speaker B: Well, I can guarantee you that if you're adhd, you're not going to take up knitting. Jerry says you missed a good bike ride. Yeah, I did.
Speaker C: I've been pretty busy. But I have been getting in bike rides. I've been going down to Birdsville river access or Oregon bar river access almost every day. So I'm getting in that. I do miss the rides. With the camaraderie group, though that is a fact. And I think that maybe next week I'm going to get back into it if it's not snowing or raining torrentially.
Speaker B: Indeed, indeed. Well, go continue frustrating yourself with that new radio. I have great faith in you. You'll manage.
Speaker C: You know, before I go, I want to tell you the quick little story. My neighbor cat, Caramel Apple, who is a long haired cat, she started out being the devil cat in the neighborhood. Now she's gotten a little bit older, a little more mature, a little more docile. She's actually standing at my feet right now. And she tried to take over my man cave. I got up out of my chair, she got on my chair. I couldn't get her off of my chair. She dug her claws in. And I'm trying to decide should I just get another chair and swing that one the other direction or will she take over the new chair? So that's how I'm perplexed this morning. I love her a lot, but I may just end up throwing her out the door and slamming it.
Speaker B: Well, if you get another chair, she will immediately go jump in the chair you ought to sit in. This is her effort to give you a new exercise routine. They say that we should do a lot of squats or chair squats, going up and down off of a chair. So this is her effort to make you do that. You sit down on one, she wants it. You go sit through the other one, she wants that one. What a good kitty. Okay, I get it.
Speaker C: It's chair wars and I'm gonna lose. She is, after all, feline and she's a she. Theta Jerry, everybody, have a great day. I'm gonna see if I can get on my bike and get moving because it looks like there's a little bit more cloud cover than there was an hour ago. 73's dull. W2VX unclear.
Speaker B: Yes, I see that all the section of sky that was blue is not white. So still see a little bit of blue. So go out and, yeah, get that bike ride in while you can. You have a great day and don't fall off your bike. I'm worried about that now for everybody because my grandson just broke his collarbone a few days ago and yeah, he's young and heals fast. So we don't want anybody else to do that. You have a good bike ride and talk to you another day. This is WA60WF. Kd6qzh. Good morning, peter. Good morning, Pena and Jerry, Rocky and everybody. Great to hear him back from the early work cable that we have for the. Are you still with us, Peter? We kind of got halfway through that and you disappeared. And now he's gone. Okay, some issue going on here. So this is the coffee breaknet we're getting toward the end of the morning and we've babbled on with many people, probably not as many people who wanted to babble on with us. So I will take in and outs or I will accept.
K and thick s, k, f connected. K and thick s, k f disconnected.
6 f k f connected. K and 6s.k f disconnected.
Speaker A: Log only. If that is your pleasure, let me know.
Speaker B: Whiskey, Uniform 6, Hotel.
Speaker A: Quick in and out.
Speaker C: Kilo 6, Golf, Quebec, La Paw. In and out.
Speaker D: W1atv. Good morning.
Speaker E: Kilohert six kilo micromeos just to say hello. Whiskey, Bravo 3, Charlie, Sierra, Yankee, Lagoni. Thank you, Theta.
Speaker A: Okay, I got wb3csy for the log. Good morning, rick. We got you logged in k06kmr. Got you robert, I'll come back to you in a minute. W1atv, k6gqp and wu6h. And who did we miss? Kilo mike.
Speaker B: Six mike mike.
Speaker A: For the long, please take. Kilo mike 6 mike mike. Log. Got you in the log. One of these days we're going to talk. So let me go up to Ryan. Good morning, Ryan. What are you up to?
Speaker B: Good morning, Theta, Jerry, Rocky and the group. Wu6h, you have mobile in Chico coming in from DV. Switch stayed the night here. Hotel that used to be a holiday and now it's a doubletree. And I slept horribly. I had nightmares all night. Because last night on the Thursday net, Smitty told me it was the same hotel he had his honeymoon and it just gave me visuals and I had cold sweats and I just couldn't sleep thinking about that.
Speaker A: Then I recommend that you not take up reading romance novels.
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Hopefully he isn't starring. Love you, Smitty. Anyway, that's all I got. Seven threes. Take care.
Speaker A: Stay.
Speaker D: Awesome.
Speaker B: WU6H.
Speaker A: Drive carefully. KG K6GQP. Good morning, Jeremiah.
Speaker F: Hi.
Speaker C: Good morning, Theta. And Terry and Lynette, this is Jeremiah. Just wanted to let Brian know that last time I checked in, I was on. I replied back to the wrong repeater on my other radio. So, yeah, sorry that I missed the last coffee break, Net. And real quick, I just wanted to say that I got accepted into the audiology program at SAC State. Really excited to do that. I start that next fall.
Speaker A: Oh, that's excellent.
Speaker B: You will.
Speaker A: That'll be a great career. You know, we're all getting older and going deaf. You definitely have job security with that one,
Speaker C: For sure. And actually there's a lot of permanent hearing loss from kids that are playing
Speaker A: video games too loud.
Speaker C: So if you have kids or grandkids
Speaker A: that are playing video games with headsets,
Speaker C: just be mindful of what volume they're listening at. But yeah, anyways, thanks for having me. Thanks for running the net. This is K6TQP.
Speaker A: Well, congratulations, Jeremiah. And I'm sure that you will enjoy doing that. Erin. W1ATB. Good morning.
Speaker D: Good Morning Jerry and Theta. I hope you guys are having a great day. Morning net. This is W1ATV. Just traveling down the highway. Just left Winnemucca about, I don't know, 10, 15 minutes ago, heading towards Sacramento on my way home from Idaho.
Speaker A: I know that stretch of road. We've traveled it many times. Very good. Are you getting blown around by the wind? We usually do.
Speaker D: Surprisingly, the wind hasn't been too bad. Of course it's been pretty cold. It's 35 now, but it was 27 earlier and so pretty cold in spots. But the wind hasn't been too bad. I had one little stretch where there was a couple little gusts. But yeah, I've done this with my motorhome as you have, I'm sure. Yeah, there are days when you shift lanes without really knowing it.
Speaker A: Yes, those unintentional lane shifts are heart thumpers. Exactly.
Speaker D: But today it's pretty pleasant. The sun's actually about to come out. I got to see blue skies for the first time in a couple of days. We had snow in Boise a couple days ago very much. But it was very pretty. And anyway, looking forward to being home. The wife is not feeling very well so I'm gonna go home, take care of her.
Speaker A: I'm sorry to hear that. Well, yes, dash home. No, don't dash. Watch out for the crazy people out there. Drive carefully and get home safely and then you can take care of her. Good luck and I'm glad that we're able to help keep you entertained while you're on the road.
Speaker D: Yeah, I've been listening for the last two and a half hours, so it's been, it's great, like being at home, you know, so. Alright, well, I'll let you guys go. I know it's almost a bewitching time, so you guys have an awesome day and thanks for doing the net. Everybody. Have a great day. W1ATV.
Speaker A: Drive carefully. This is W6EWF. KO6KMR. Good morning, Robert.
Speaker E: Well, good morning. Just made it home from my gym, being with my trainer and upper body today and honestly I can't hardly hold the microphone. My hand's shaking from all the work he's getting on. So I'm going to go in, give me a protein shake, sit down, watch a little TV and start studying for the extra license again. Over.
Speaker A: Well, that sounds like a good plan. Wrap an afghan around yourself to get nice and warm and do your studying and get ready for taking the test. Are you going to take the test on Monday or are you a Little bit farther out than that.
Speaker E: A little bit further out than that. I am taking the extra class that Sierra Foothills is offering so that's 10 weeks. So after the 10 weeks I'll head in the first chance. After that over.
Speaker A: Ah, we will see you then and look forward to that. Well, enjoy the class and I'm sure that you will learn a lot
Speaker E: or
Speaker A: at least learn enough to pass the test and then you will learn lots.
Speaker E: Yeah, I don't think you could ever learn all of it in a lifetime over.
Speaker A: Well that has been my observation, so. But you can learn what you need to. So there you go. That's a worthwhile effort for you to get your life your extra.
Speaker E: Well, I appreciate it. I'm going to turn it back over to you. Kilo Oscar six kilo Mike Romeo. And I'm going to say 73.
Speaker A: Well, seven three Robert. You have a great day. This is WA60WF. This is the Coffee Breaknet. We have now passed the 10 o' clock moment. I will take log onlys or very quick in and out. Who's out there?
Speaker E: Ka6ui log only.
Speaker B: Ki6lop.
Speaker A: For the log. Thanks. Theta.
Speaker E: Alpha kilo 6 november sierra. Ak6ns.
Speaker A: Log only. Okay, for the log. I have AK6Ns. Got you in the log. Ray, you have a lovely day. Ki6lop. We've got you in the log. Glad that you checked in. You have a great day too. And Ka6uai, I have you in the log. Jerry says we also have KB7 DFP. He thinks he saw you, but we didn't hear you. Ah, he's. He's ghosting us. Okay, anybody else for the vlog?
Speaker E: Jimmy, if you excuse age. I guess I had a problem with
Speaker C: repeater phone I back on our app.
Speaker E: I'll take the vlog.
Speaker F: Lee, in and out.
Speaker A: Okay, I heard an in and out, but we didn't hear your call sign.
Speaker F: Kilo Foxtrot 7 Mike Lee Macko.
Speaker A: Ah, okay, you're coming through. Ken's repeater, KF7 LME. We've got you in the lot. No, you're an in and out.
Speaker F: Yeah, in and out is mike lima echo.
Speaker A: Mike Lima Echo. Okay, let's see. And Peter, we got you back again. KD6QZH. Glad that you checked back in. Let us know when somebody disappears in mid conversation. We always worry a little bit. So thanks for checking back in. Let's see, let me go to kf7mle. Good morning.
Speaker F: Hey, good morning to the group. My first time here, so just kind of hanging out in the weeds, I guess. Anyway, I don't have a lot to report, but my name is Dave Delta Alpha Victor Echo. Live in Northwest Oregon where it's cold and raining today. Anyway, not a lot to report, so I'll return it back to Net Control, KF7MLE.
Speaker A: Well, thanks for giving us the report about the rain. I'm sure that you need it there and glad that you checked in. Where in Northwest Oregon do you live?
Speaker F: I live about 30 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon, in a town called Taggart.
Speaker A: Oh, we know Taggart. Our daughter lives in Beaverton, so we are very familiar. We drive through Taggart on the interstate as we're heading up to visit her.
Speaker F: Oh, fantastic. Small world, but great. I'll go ahead and return it Back to you. KS7MLE.
Speaker A: Well, bundle up and wear your rain gear and have a great day. This is WA6CWF. This is the Coffee Breaknet. One last round for log onlys. Who's out there? And I'm hearing nothing but those infamous crickets. So I am going to say that this has been the Coffee Breaknet. The Coffee Breaknet is sponsored by the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio club on the W6ek repeater located in Auburn, California, where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping. Love you, bill. This is WA60WF returning the repeater to normal operation, whatever that may be. Everyone have a lovely day. Bye bye.
Kg7hku. Kg7hku. Are you trying to check in?
Speaker A: Good morning, Theta. Good morning, Jerry. Just wanted to pop in and say hi N6EMS. Hope to see you at the next. Well, the next ve dinner.
Speaker B: Morning, Bob Waxe. Yeah, we plan to be there and we'll also be at the following version testing and then got a meeting coming up in February, early February. I'm looking forward to going to the new digs.
Speaker A: Yes, sir. I have not seen the new digs. I'm almost toying with the idea of just jumping in the car and running over there and finding the place so I can just drive right to.
Speaker B: It's only about
Speaker A: two or three minutes from the house. So that's going to be an upgrade for me. I mean, literally, I can take the bike when it gets a little warmer.
Speaker B: Yeah, for that matter, you could walk. Of course, the church wasn't that far from you anyway, so. Yeah, go ahead and do that. I saw it on the, on the zoom session they had when they're setting it up. It looked very nice and I understand the acoustics are wonderful,
Speaker C: But I am
Speaker A: going to miss the echoey Jim sound. I mean, it's just not going to be the same.
Speaker B: Well, I kind of agree that statement. It's not going to be the same,
Speaker C: but I'm not going to miss it.
Speaker B: I mean, when we are actually trying to do things like the trivia contest or speeches for acceptance of awards and the like, it was just tough to hear.
Speaker A: This will.
Speaker B: This will make it better. I understand that. The downside to this, this is if you're in the back of the room and you're having a little sub conversation with the person next to you. Excuse me. The microphones are so hot they can pick it up.
Speaker A: Yeah, I guess we should know our audience. Not really. The people that sit politely with their hands folded in their lap and don't sound anything.
Speaker C: Huh?
Speaker B: Oh, you'll have to do it with paper and pencil so you can pass notes back and forth. Kind of like back in grade school.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah. There's an idea. There's a flashback. Passing notes.
Speaker B: What a cool, cool idea.
Speaker A: I think I'll bring a pad of post its or something.
Speaker B: There you go. Any event I'm looking forward to will be enjoyable. And like I say, the acoustics are better. So we will be there in person, most likely, not just on zoom.
Speaker D: Yes, sir.
Speaker A: Looking forward to it. All right. You and Theta have a great day. Just thought I'd pop in and say hi.
Speaker B: I'm glad you did. Have a good one too, Bob. This is WA6E door stations. We didn't hear from this morning, such as K6DLK. I guess he's sleeping in over there in Hawaii. Have a Good one, everybody. WA6E thanks, Jerry.
Speaker C: You too. Aloha.
Speaker D: Hang on, Dan.
Speaker B: KB7 DFP. Was that you, Ken?
Speaker D: I was running late.
Speaker B: I had actually given you credit for the visit earlier. I saw your name, your node light up here on Alstar. So turned out to be another coming in through your node. But okay, we'll officially give you credit this time. Good to hear you on.
Speaker C: Thank you.
Speaker B: Have a great day.
Speaker D: KAB 70 FP mobile
Speaker B: and good morning, Dan. I saw you logged in, but you weren't transmitting. I figure, let's see, this time of year, it's just two hours difference. You were probably out surfing.
Speaker D: No.
Speaker C: Good morning, Jerry. I didn't get the paddleboard out. It was a late night last evening. Enjoyed some time with friends and we had game night here. So it's just a relaxing morning waking up and yes, I did turn on to tune in while I was getting things going, starting the kitchen items up and things like that. So it's nice listening in just to feel connected, realize what's going on with everybody, that you're familiar with the ongoing stories. I got in late. The two hour difference is definitely easier. You know, when you're talking to people, even on the east coast, some friends out on the other side, it makes a little bit of a difference, I think.
Speaker B: Yeah, it didn't used to make much of a difference, but now that you get old, it makes a big difference and it is kind of a comfort level. I used to enjoy listening to HF as I drove along to these various nets. It just kind of made the miles disappear and very much the same thing. This is in the background most of the time when I'm in here doing other stuff. So it's enjoyable. I know Aaron's out there. W1ATV. Good morning, Aaron. I know Theta said hello, but he's driving back near Winnemucca. I'm sure he's just listening and doesn't want to say anything. Doesn't have much to contribute, just enjoys listening. So. Yeah, I also notice our back channel gets really quiet when you get over there. You keep saying when you get older.
Speaker C: When you get older. Normally I take offense, but I'm officially
Speaker B: there
Speaker C: when I look down and I
Speaker D: think, you know what, I'll get out
Speaker C: of my drop later. I'm realizing now I have to budget a little bit more time to do the things that I would normally just whack out pretty quickly. But I got the place all washed down, got the lanai all set up. We're good. We're settled in, so it'll be a nice thing. I said, it's great not having the projects this time. And Chris told me on my way out, she said, the projects will find you. And sure enough, there's a few that popped up that are saying, I'm here.
Speaker B: Of course, that goes with owning something, be it a car, a house, a plane, a boat. There's always something to do. Even when you think you have it in status quo, then you're overlooking something. So when you box it up and put the locks on the door to come back here, do you leave? Do you have a procedure that you follow? Do you turn off the water heater, for example, or turn off the water to the house so that if something starts to leak, it doesn't flood? What do you do?
Speaker C: Oh, yeah, big procedure. So I'm going to go down and look at this so I can remember. I can usually do this in my sleep, really been done so many times. But the water to the house is turned off. The irrigation water is left on. Don't trust any of the braided lines or things like that to any of that type of stuff that can happen. Any bursts I can go on. Oh, see, look, I'm so late. The neighbors are already coming back with the kids. It's fun to see because people come in and enjoy the place. Sometimes they have others come in. There's a surgeon across the street that we see various people from his practice that come in with kids and things like that. But the water turns off. All the stuff is locked in. The cameras are up, so we can usually see pretty well what's going on. The joke around here is the cameras are up so you can make sure the gardeners are coming in and doing things right. It's a tiny place. It's not the big palatial stuff that you hear of people building on all the outer islands. This is just a working man's hut, I call it. Interestingly, the place was designed as executive homes for people who are on island. And we had originally gotten it for thinking that we would move and have our son go to school here and raise him in a little bit more sequestered, safer, as I remembered growing up. But it didn't work out that way and for all the right reasons. But now hoping to spend more time and yes, we lock it down good. Make sure to the best of our ability that nothing can go wrong and just handle the things as we come back in again. But if you can imagine all your spread out maintenance that we all do at our homes throughout the year is now consolidated into those times when you come in and even with good people, you still get your hands in there and get things going.
Speaker D: Comment?
Speaker B: Go ahead, comment.
Speaker D: Hello, Jerry Hole. Dan. You know, we do something similar at the place up in Taoma by the lake, but we found that a checklist really helps. And I'm sure, Dan, you probably do the same thing. You probably use a checklist because invariably it's kind of like an airplane pilot, you know, they do it over and over again. But if you don't have a checklist, if you don't check it off, invariably you'll forget a step and you'll probably be halfway home before you recall that
Speaker A: you forgot that step.
Speaker D: So we have a laminated card for what to do to open up and we have a laminated card what to do to close down the house. And we found that served us very well over the years. In fact, I have both of them sitting in front of me because I'm going to update them with some of the recent changes we made. And you know, we don't call our play, I call it a house, but it's really a cabin, just like your hud. You know, it's a nice place, comfortable place, but it's not a huge palace. Casey6Silly.
Speaker C: I don't know if I can go direct here, Jerry, but you're absolutely right. Green we do have a very pretty extensive text note in some online app. So it's on the phone and it's mostly used for others who want to take a look at what's going on. But yeah, the list is long because we actually have a solar water heater set up and it has to be drained so I can do it very quickly. But it's very specific in what levers have to be turned, when to drop all the water out of the solar panel, the collector up top. If we do not do that, the sun here, and I'm sure it's probably the same way in Florida, will superheat the water in the tank if I come in alone. It's a 75 gallon water tank and it can actually get to be too hot if I don't use enough water. So I have to manage that and either turn the pump on so it recirculates all the time or just drain the panel out and shut the system down. So there are quite a few of these individual items that amount to a lot when you add them all up. But little things like that that are specific to the area, and I'm sure you do too. You have to make your place ready for the snow if you're going to not be up there before the big drop.
Speaker D: That's exactly right. Because, you know, we're just the polar opposite.
Speaker C: We.
Speaker D: We have to worry about things freezing and bursting. You have to worry about things oiling and bursting. So that's exactly the reason what we did, you know, I re plumbed the whole place. You probably have done the same thing years. I replumbed it years ago. Made sure everything flowed down to a low point. I put in vacuum brakes on the top of the water heater so they know the line strain completely. And we put electric valves in. And the electric valves make it a lot simpler than people having to go around and, okay, there's a valve by the toilet, there's a valve under the kitchen sink, all of that. And then I built a very nice little control box with all the switches on it. So if you want to open up the hose bibs outside, you turn the switch on. If you want to drain the system, you turn these two switches down. So try to make it as simple as possible for everybody that uses the house. But the consequences of not following that list, the consequences of missing a stip, particularly in the winter, can be pretty catastrophic. So we try to be as detailed,
Speaker C: as specific as you can.
Speaker D: Anyway, not to interrupt your conversation with Jerry. Just thought I would listening while I was doing some work here and thought I'd chime in and compare notes. Glad you're having a good time over there. KC6SLE.
Speaker B: Well, graydon, this is WA6C. I kind of had to laugh when you would talk about a checklist. And it was laminated. We have one in the motorhome that we use. We don't have it for setting up. We pretty well figure out what's not working as we go to use it. But closing down, we have a checklist, and it's laminated, and we use it every single time. And it's amazing how often you'll miss some simple little step. For example, we have straps that we put across the front of the refrigerator so that as we go around the corner, the refrigerator doors don't pop open and. And all the contents fall out. And Theta will say to me, did you put the straps on the fridge? Oh, we missed it because she's going through the list. So, yeah, it's just bringing that discipline into your life. And I think it's funny. Braden you have the freezing problem. And, Dan, you had the overheating problem, so at least you got it under control. And Dan, sitting here listening to you, I hear all the little birds in the background, and it makes me think. It reminds me of the ride. It isn't a ride. It's a place down at Disneyland called the Tiki Hut, where you go in and all the birds sing and whatnot. I'm sure you're familiar with it. I'm envisioning your house, and you must be living in a tiki hut.
Speaker C: Comment? Comments?
Speaker B: Hang on, Ray.
Speaker C: I think some of these terms might. Might stick, Jerry. But yeah, Ray,
Speaker E: It sounded like Ray. You know, when I talked to you, Dan, a couple years ago, I said,
Speaker C: wow, listen to those beautiful birds.
Speaker E: And the background, it just makes me melt because I'm quarter Hawaiian. And you're like, I don't even hear him anymore. So just for this, doing it, I'm listening to some zebra doves right now in Chico, California.
Speaker C: That's awesome, Jerry.
Speaker B: We have geese down in our pond and then the pastures, and they make a lot of noise. Does that count? Dan?
Speaker C: You know, I guess I don't really hear as much. I have to say thanks for the recording because now I'm tuned into hearing that. And I guess, yeah, it's a little bit of a Rainforest Cafe we got going on here. I don't know. It's. It's relaxing, but like anywhere else, the evening time, you can hear the ocean crashing. That's kind of nice. It lulls you to sleep, but after a while of being here, it's there. But you don't pick up on it as much. And I didn't want to make light of all the lists. You're absolutely right, Jerry and Graydon. I'm a triple A personality, and I do have lists down to the minute detail of what direction the blinds need to be turned to prevent the sun doing its thing. And the refrigerator and freezer preparation and shut down. And all of. All of the little stuff that goes into making sure that it's a great experience when you come back. And there's nothing that

And 60. Well, I was testing some. I was testing a repeater controller command and I realized I wasn't connected with the one of my nodes that I thought I was going to listen in on. I'm going to try that one more time. Get back with. Give me one second. Error 302. I'm gonna have to have the Carla, folks. What are you up to? How are you doing? That's it. All right. I don't know if you noticed or not. I was able to get in there and I did update your Super Mar to 7.4. Yeah, it must have been eight. One. Okay, so that one. That one's on 7.4 also. Yeah, you said a one in the email. Yeah, yeah, thank you for that. By the way. You got to set the temperature real quick from 140 down to 95 and 105. I did look at this temperature on my other notes. I don't know why I never look at the one in the third notes. Yeah, I just said 99 degrees. Now that's a whole lot better than it was. At our. At our Dollar City stores. They had these cheesy little fans that you had. Little USB fans. Brushless. And they were good. I've got my Shari sitting on top of one of those. I do have to get another one. I think my. That's the one I have is. Yeah, those little USB fans work perfect for keeping those little Asharis or clear notes which use Raspberry PI 4s which run very hot anyway. They help keep them nice and cool and nice and quiet. Yeah, this one I set over there is overkill. And I had it sitting on top of mower right here. Yeah. Yes you can. So I've got a. Got a switch on. I've got to turn on low and keep them down. So even after the net this morning, I was running for over an hour on the net and still kept it cool. So yeah, I need to get it starting pressure through. I'll bet it brings to be. I'll bet somebody has figured out a way to make your node announce that the temperature is high. You know, say it gets above 120 degrees or even 110 degrees. I bet somebody's figured out a way to make that amount for you. I just, you know, that's one more thing I can research, I guess. Yeah, there you go. That'd be good. That would be good. I did have done similar dash and things that were port once and got things clearly not working properly there. This morning I realized why I need gone in some tests. Sedan got Superman's new icon and desktop for Supermon to get in the same road. Everything's all configured properly. Anyway, whenever you want to play another whenever, let me know. Yeah, you betcha. I just did a refresh showing you 8. 1, and now I. I lost you. There you are. Okay. Yeah. So your. Your clear nodes that beat. Court is updated. I think you may have said that, but I missed it. Yeah. So. I don't know. You said you may be available sometime tomorrow. Yeah. The only time I got something going on is between. All right. We'll see what's happening. I. I don't. I don't think we're doing anything tomorrow. But that could change in the morning. Okay. I'm always in early 6. 6:30. My time in the morning. Before or after that? One hour. I'm doing the M1K. All right. And I'll try to do a little more reading today. I think. That a question. Never mind. All right, well, good luck. And give me a yell. I'm confused. I'm looking at your 1884 and that. That west it. I may have to go back in there. Chain that one. Yeah. Okay. Something happened there. That one didn't change. I don't know why. I'll go back in there and do it again. Sa. I will fix that right now.
Let me try it again.
Larry, I'm gonna. I'm gonna really boot this one. Okay, Give me one minute. I'll get. You're. You should reconnect automatically. I'm going to do a reboot right now. And six canning.
Yeah, that's strange. Larry, I can't get in on Supermod now. I'll have to figure that out tomorrow when I talk to you. When I team you into you. I can't get in either. Okay, no problem.

Speaker B: You'd be surprised. The high doesn't get cold. It's 68 right now. The high's only going to be 70. The low of 41 today.
Speaker A: I am actually very surprised.
Speaker B: Yeah, that sounds pretty cold.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm just here on my lunch

Speaker A: Yes, that is correct, David. And I'm calling to you from here in East Los Angeles at my job. So, yeah,
Speaker B: very cool. I will log it in qrz. I don't know if you started doing any QRZ logs yet, but it's pretty cool to chase after different awards. You go under that qrz.com website and there's different 50 states and, you know, so many contacts in so many days. Pretty cool. There's a cool one right now. America 250 for our 250th anniversary. 250 contact. I think it's before July 4th, but it could be all year. I'm not sure.
Speaker A: Yes, I use the World Radio League app for my contacts. Wrl. I have heard of qrz. Would you happen to know about both and what you prefer?
Speaker B: Yeah, I do, too. I do Logbooks of the World and I do. And you can go between them. So you can export and import both of them. So they mimic each other. But I haven't done. I looked at World Radio League. It looked like very cool software. I didn't quite wrap my head around it yet. Got it.
Speaker A: I appreciate the advice and I feel the exact same way about qrz. I've gone on the website, I think I've made an account, but I have yet to actually look at the logbook for it. So that is something I will probably
Speaker B: be doing this week. Very cool. Well, good to meet you and have a good lunch. And I will talk to you again down the log. Kilo 4, 7 northwest.

Sounded good and I just sitting out here with the 100 year old man. Yep. Just need my radio and said, oh, you got another radio. I said, as you know, I've got one among many radios. This happens to be a Kenwood film. I hope it sounds good like a Kenwood should. Go ahead, Larry.
Speaker B: Yeah. I didn't know you were a poet. So which pinwood are you using?
Speaker A: But I guess a good eight. I've got two or three or four of them. I don't know. They're the Kilwood F6A was Tango Hotel. Th F6A tri band handheld receiver. You know, DC through light. Pretty, pretty little handheld. Got a little stubby antenna out of the high capacity battery pack. So works good.
Speaker B: Yeah, I love mine. I bought one brand new from somebody still brand new in the box still when I was in Forest Ranch a couple years before we moved. I still use it every day. That's what I use usually to stock on my notes. On my all star notes and good little radio. Love it. And good afternoon for John there, sitting up here near you. And if you're sitting outside, a little chilly here to do that. It's 56 degrees and cloudy. It's ought to have nicer weather there.
Speaker A: John. I don't think he heard you say hello, but I. I told him that you said hello and he kind of nodded his head, I guess say hello back or whatever.
Speaker B: Yeah, as long as you do it up and down and not.
Speaker A: But he's. He's more down. I'm trying to get him to do the yard work here, but he doesn't want to cooperate. He wants to sit and watch me do it all. Go figure.
Speaker B: Smart man. Smart man. No wonder he hangs around you. He's smarter than you, right?
Speaker A: I told him, I said I don't know if he hears you or not. But he said here with a big grin on his face. All right, anyway, Larry, I won't hold you. Just wanted to wave a hand and you sound a little muffled to me. I don't know what the deal is it we like. Yeah. Anyway, like when camera's on, it's very punchy, sharp audio. Yours just seem a little. Maybe it's your voice or what you're on. I'm not sure. Are you on the on the mic or what are you doing.
Speaker B: I'm using hand mic and I'm on a milestone note and yeah Ken's trying to get it as sharp enough as he can but to still I know turn my voice and by the muscle sound so that still going to get so at least you can still hear me soon.
Speaker A: Quite audible just sounds a little it could be my my voice or my my hearing too so but no sounds good all right again I won't hold you I just wanted to say hello say hello to Ida and falafel still I still smack my lips one of those Ida burgers I can't stop but anyway I just drive by the fast food places and look at that see the commercials on TV and and I see you guys call out you guys call that a burger yeah right all right 73 Larry take care my friend.
