Speaker A: Wwnr mobile. W e6a x n repeater.
Speaker B: Hey, WNR. I'm 6ih.
Speaker A: Hey, how are you doing, Pete? Are you doing the single side band sprint contest this weekend?
Speaker B: Wait, what you say?
Speaker A: The single side band sprint contest that's actively happening right now?
Speaker B: Oh, what frequency bands?
Speaker A: Literally all bands. I was just on 20 meters.
Speaker B: Hey, I don't know, man. I've got 40 meters. 40 at night.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm gonna be out of town, so I'm not gonna be near my radio. But I was active getting quite a few contacts on 20 meters just a moment ago. I'm actively driving though, right now, so. But yeah, the bands are on fire right now. L.
Speaker B: Wait a minute. You're working CW in the truck?
Speaker A: No, no, no. I don't operate HF while driving. My HF setup is at home. It's a permanent install. Eventually I will run HF in the truck, but I won't be doing CW while driving. I don't think that's safe. I've heard of that, though.
Speaker B: And I worked a guy once down in la.
Speaker A: He had a.
Speaker B: A key kind of taped to his leg so that, you know, he's driving on the freeway and body DY da.
Speaker A: That is actually kind of cool but crazy at the same time. I mean, to each his own, but I. I don't see myself doing that. And then the amount of coordination that it takes to actually do that. And also, what if you go over a bump and it's like that? It's like, okay, I didn't mean to do that.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, you could spell the wrong thing and make an enemy for life. Well, but perfect for some kind of a mobile field day, you know, drive your rig up to a mountain, get out there and wham down.
Speaker A: Kind of what I wanted to do was I wanted to turn the truck into a mobile HF rig so that I just take my truck there and I'm already ready to go, you know, operate day, Jeff. From the comfort of my own vehicle as I travel around, I kind of wanted to do that. Some point in time, I'll do that. And by some point in time, that means when I get a better job.
Speaker B: Oh, J, O B. I've heard of that. You know, speaking of mobile, hey, Jeff, I was thinking of a trailer. You know, some kind of double axle thing where you could put in, you know, rigs, antennas, place to lay down, toilets. Hey, everybody would be happy.
Speaker A: That'd be actually kind of cool. This is like a dedicated trailer. You just bring around that radio stuff. I don't have that kind of money, but one could hope someday maybe that's something I can see myself actually probably doing. If I have, like, a boatload of money just lying around, I would probably do that. Absolutely. KN6WNR Friday.
Speaker B: I always feel like it's good to dream or fantasize, you know, like, if you're working toward a goal, it's good to go over, you know, mentally trying to figure out how things work, etc. I forgot where I was going with that.
Speaker A: It's always good to dream. I got quite a few dreams that I actually want to realize at some point, and one of them I don't think I'll ever be able to do, but it's worth trying to.
Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. If I had a lot of money, I'd have to figure out some way to spend it. You know, ham radio would be a good idea. Put a lot of money in there. I think I might also like to get, like, some kind of nice car or nice truck. Maybe even an old military 6x6 power wagon with a 350 crate engine, something like that.
Speaker A: And talk about military hardware. If I had unlimited money and there were no rolls, I'd buy like an M1 Abrams.
Speaker B: Yeah, there you go. Well, you know, it'd be nice to have some toys, you know, what do they call that big boy to. Yeah, that would be something.
Speaker A: California resident destroys all vehicles on a Public street with M1 Abrams.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Well, you'd probably get destroyed, too.
Speaker A: You know, get in so much trouble, but would enjoy every moment of it.
Speaker B: Yeah. I've seen a video of a guy going nuts in a tank. You know, finally they had to get on, climb on top, and he wouldn't quit.
Speaker A: Probably having the time of his life.
Speaker B: I'm sure he was working out some sort of aggression, you know, issues. You know, how people can harbor a grudge or just get angry with the world and, you know, they gotta do something, gotta punch back.
Speaker A: That's the unfortunate thing. Yeah. How is the weather up in Chico?
Speaker B: Because I'm.
Speaker A: I'm about to be heading up there in about an hour.
Speaker B: Little cool.
Speaker A: Not bad.
Speaker B: Today was really good sunshine. I actually got out there and I took off my shirt. You know, it was warm, but gets cold at night.
Speaker A: Yeah, it does. Last time I was out there, which was like, three weeks ago, it was getting pretty cold out. Well, I just destined myself for the time being. I'm gonna go into the store, then I am going to probably head up to Chico, so you might hear me on the radio again. In a little bit. Nice talking with you again, Pete. This is KN6WNR. I'll be clear.
Speaker B: Okay. Later on down the coax, as they say. N6iwhere.

Speaker A: Kn6mgk mobile paradise. Oh, were you at that ice protest on 20th street?
Speaker B: Oh, if I went to that, I'd probably get in trouble being a little instigator.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was there this morning. Didn't even know it. I did see some signs around Chico Mall saying, you know, for only for shopper use. Lots of these like delineators with signs like that out there. Nobody paying any attention to them. I didn't pay much attention to it. I didn't know what that meant really. So I was in there getting a cup of tea for a little while and then I saw these people on the, on the bridge that. The bike path thing or whatever, what we spend multiple millions of dollars for. So I guess that's going to be called the protest bridge with hundreds of people on there. Anyway. Okay, now I get, now I get why the signs were out.
Speaker B: It's kind of unfortunate that they did a good job building that bridge. It's kind of funny to see it fall. Oh God, I'm horrible. Yeah, N. She is so hilarious too. Because if these people weren't so dang brainwashed, maybe they'd realize that, heck, they're beloved. Old Obama deported. Way more people than Trump has so far.
Speaker A: Yeah, I just don't see, I mean, whatever side of the, of the, you know, I guess it's some sort of like Black Lives Matters. Whatever. Whatever side of the argument you come onto, I don't see how you find the time for all that. You know, I'm busy doing other things. I don't got time to be messing
Speaker B: around with that because they're liptards. They don't work. I mean, their job is getting paid to protest. I mean, I'm pretty sure most of them people there were probably getting paid to be there unfortunately.
Speaker A: Heard stuff like that. But I did see one person say that on a video, but you know, haven't seen a whole lot of other proof. But I mean a lot of the signs look kind of, you know, like someone in fourth grade could have made them. So that doesn't tell me that there's a whole lot of intelligence there.
Speaker B: Well, yeah, I'm pretty sure a fourth grader probably has more intelligence than most of them people out there doing that.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, maybe you could have made a lot of money, you know, delivering food and stuff to those people.
Speaker B: Oh, I doubt it. They are probably the non tipping type. Seems like a big thing here in Chico. People just don't understand somebody delivers you something because you're lazy. At least $5. I mean all these $1 tips to go all the way across town. I mean, it's like a slap in the face. I mean, I kind of get it when it's college kids doing it, but at that point, it's like walk your butt to a store around the corner. You're young. But, you know. You know, I feel that their parents have definitely failed them by not teaching them to tip properly. But, yeah, I would say those people protesting are probably part of that group that just, you know, I probably wouldn't get paid as much in tips. And on top of it, they would probably find something to complain about to try and get a free meal, too.
Speaker A: Okay, but that wouldn't be your fault, right? I mean, you didn't make the meal.
Speaker B: No, but there's a lot of people out there that will, like, try and claim. They just try and scam, you know, they'll try and claim, oh, I didn't get this with my order or this and that. And it happened quite frequently. And it's pretty sad. You know, people are just, you know, not honest people these days.
Speaker A: Do you have to go back to Taco Bell to get him a hot sauce?
Speaker B: Oh, no, I don't do none of that. I mean, maybe if they tipped me well, I would, but, yeah, I don't. I don't subscribe to that nonsense. They want to get something that was missing or wherever they got to contact the store and doordash.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was just curious. Yeah, I used to order when I'd go out for a hamburger at a place, and I don't mean a fast food place even to get french fries, which I'm probably not supposed to be eating anyway, but say I do like to have a little bit of ranch dressing with that, you know, to get my fries, you know. Anyway, most these places are starting to charge now for ranch dressing, so it's kind of crazy. So I guess if you get the ketchup, it's free, but, you know, ranch dressing. No.
Speaker B: Well, on top of it with doordash, Doordash charges the stores 30%. So the stores mark up their product for DoorDash orders 30% plus DoorDash then is all shady and marks up that even more. And then they charge people a delivery fee where I guarantee I'm not even seeing half of that. So I kind of feel bad for the customers. It's like, yeah, you probably just paid $10 for a delivery, but I'm getting $3 of that. So learn to tip. You know, people don't get it, but, you know, if you want to be lazy these days, you know, 20 years ago I order a pizza, I would tip five minimum. So it's pretty sad that these days people just don't do it. And it's like, well, if you can't afford to tip, don't go out, you know, or don't order delivery.
Speaker A: Well, I heard a sirens in the background. Is everything okay over there?
Speaker B: Yeah, just a fire truck going down the road. I don't know what that call was for. I got the other side of the radio turned down.
Speaker A: I thought a lot of them are going to pack it anyway. Didn't think you could hear a whole lot about what certain public service agencies are doing, especially police.
Speaker B: Yeah, I think that's utter bs. I think we have a right to listen in and hold them accountable. But yeah, so far it's just Chico PD and I think Butte County Sheriff. But all the emergency like, you know, EMT and fire and all that, still analog. Up in Tehama, everything's still analog. At least still.
Speaker A: So did you see that the Starlink Mini, they reduced or should say they. Anyway, the price was at least less than $199. Now of course the monthly fees is different packages, but it's starting to get more affordable.
Speaker B: Well, it gets even better than that. I've been a customer since the beta with them and they're sending me a free Starlink min.
Speaker A: That sounds pretty neat. Thought about getting something like that myself and just. I think you can pay it, can't you pay like five bucks just to kind of keep it in standby mode, something like that. Then you got to go up to 50 bucks for the minimum thing, right?
Speaker B: Yeah, it's something like that. There was for one of the options, the option I chose, it was like just an add on to my thing and it was like so much more a month or something, I forget. But then with the Mini I'll have so many gigabyte and then after that runs out, then I got Buy More or whatever. But I figure heck, it's free, send it on over.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, I'll have to check more into it, but yeah, I mean if it was five bucks a month, just I'll pay the couple hundred bucks to get stuff and then you know, in the time of need, if you had to activate it real quick, you already have the stuff, then you have to pay the. Pay the fees, you know, and I'd probably want to use it for a couple months out of the year anyway. But you know, just practice and so forth. Especially when you're out and about without any cell towers or anything like that. You want to run a, you know, one of the digital modes that might require timing.
Speaker B: Yeah, actually, I think you have to pay the $5 no matter what. If it's, you know, if you're not using it, you can't just sign up and then, you know, when, whenever, you know, they have a limited slots and whatnot that they do. But anyway, enjoy your ride. I just got an order after running to Safeway here, so I'll have to say 73.
Speaker A: Yeah, no, copy that. Yeah, I'd be willing to pay that five bucks. Just kind of keep it and, like, stand by anyway. All right. 73. Kilo November 6th.
Speaker B: My golf kilo mobile and six ODG clear.

Amateur Radio News line report number 2517 with a release date of Friday, January 23, 2026 to follow in five 4, 3, 2, 1. The following is a QST A Severe Solar Radiation Storm Disrupts HF Communication US Lawmakers Propose Restoring funds to Voice of America and in New Zealand, Q codes are on the move. All this and more as Amateur Radio Newsline Report number 2517 comes your way right now from around the world. This is Newsline, Amateur Radio's first independent on the air News and Bulletin service. Now reporting from Wadsworth, Ohio, here's Stefan Kenford in awp. Our top story this week is the most severe solar radiation storm in more than 20 years. It began on Monday, January 19th and lasted through much of the week. The National Weather Service declared the storm to be at an S4 level, a degree of severity not seen since October of 2023. S4 is the second highest level of this type of storm. The storm severity, which exceeded that of the one in October of 2023 disrupted the HF ban, challenging ham radio operators while creating spectacular auroral displays. A bipartisan agreement among the US Lawmakers could restore the government's financial support of Voice of America, Radio Free Europe and other federally funded news services. Kent Peterson, KC0DGY has that story. U.S. lawmakers in Washington, D.C. have reached a deal that would fund the Voice of America giving its parent organization, the U.S. agency for Global Media, an estimated $653 million. That figure is considerably lower than the annual $860 million provided previously to the agency as described on the Radio World website. The funds would also pay for restoration of operations for Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty and Radio Free Asia. A minimum of $30 million is earmarked for medium and shortwave programming by the Office of Cuba Broadcasting. The deal is part of a larger spending bill, the National Security Department of State and Related Programs Appropriations Act. It has the support of both parties in Congress and its funding plan goes against the White House's executive order from last year which shut the international news services. Even if the measure receives final approval from the House and Senate, it will still require the President's signature. This is Ken Peterson, KC0BGY. The NASA's Artemis 2 mission began its long awaited journey to the moon and back on Saturday 17 January with the Rockets rollout onto the launch pad at the Kennedy Space center in Florida. Three of the four astronauts who will be aboard have their amateur radio licenses. Travis Lick, N3ILS tells us what's up next. W6RHC repeater check one.

Speaker A: Well, been waiting patiently. Even put my call out a couple times. It's a great Sunday morning. Kilo.
Speaker B: November 6th. Mike, golf. Kilo. Yeah, good morning. Yeah,
Speaker A: I was gonna ask you a question about FT8, but I don't know, the question kind of went away. I guess the waterfall all of a sudden turned, like, black at the top. Like, what the heck? So I just went in and changed the colors back. But I don't see how
Speaker B: come it would do that all by itself. Yeah.
Speaker A: Well, I got
Speaker B: myself
Speaker A: a beautiful cup of Peruvian coffee. I just put my mushrooms in it. The mushroom powder I put in it, collagen powder. So in the second cup here. So I'm doing pretty nice this morning. But I did wake up a bit earlier than I wanted to, but I made use of it. Was
Speaker B: working some FT8, See? I
Speaker A: mean, anything other than the stuff I probably ought to be doing, huh?
Speaker B: Yeah. So,
Speaker A: yeah, I got a couple of new connectors to put on some cable, some coax, stuff like that. So I probably ought to do that too. But, no, I got plenty of stuff around here to do. You guys were talking about batteries the other day. I got two packs of batteries, one Cs and one D has been in the package here for a month probably, and I haven't put them away yet. I have a battery doctor, I think they call it. You buy these cases over at Costco before, they're $15 a case. I don't know if you've seen them. I don't think they have them anymore, but they did for quite a while. And it just put slots for all the batteries. And I have one of those that I fill up.

Yeah, I did that before too. But then I also have lithium iron. Lithium ion. Not lithium ion. Lithium ion batteries too. Like the 18, 650s. I've got about 30 or 40 of those. And so those I kind of keep up on top. But I have another little drawer for those. But yeah, you know, nine volts. I don't really have much purpose in nine volts anymore, do you? I mean, I have some still here, but I bet you they're getting awesome. Look at them. But I ought to give them to you. I haven't had a use for a 9 volt in quite some time. Maybe I have a stud finder. A stud finder that takes a 9 volt.

2026-02-01 15:05:35 UTC 160.4s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: Yeah, you know, I don't, I don't think any of my volt meters take nine volt. I don't know. But what I used to use the smoke detectors, but those all. Now I just throw them away, the whole thing because they're a ten year thing now. And really you shouldn't, you shouldn't wait 10 years to be honest. So probably five. It's probably realistic thing. But anyway that's here nor there. But yeah, now they all have like batteries that are supposed to be good for 10 years. So I tossed I think last year my carbon monoxide meter and put a new one in. So. Yeah, but those are what used to take them. So I just can't think of much else anymore that might take a 9 volt. But I do have a couple sitting around here now. Funny, funny thing is KB9VBR, that Michael Martin, he was using a 9 volt battery. So it's a great idea. I might have to do that. When you put a snap on it comes off to that and goes to his external tuner to power it up and it works fine. Even though you can put batteries inside the external LDG tuner. Same one I just bought. You can power it up
Speaker B: with a 9 volt battery too. Yeah, so
Speaker A: you know that I bought the Z11, whatever it is, an LT, you know, whatever you call it an LG or whatever. Yeah, so LT, whatever. I don't know why I'm blanking on it too. But it's the same brand that you have. I have a different model, but I think it's the same principle. So you can open up a case and you can put batteries in it. Well, you could, you know, instead use the cable that goes to the back of it. The same way that you would say hook into you know, Anderson's whatever. But you could just put a 9 volt battery on it with the snaps and it would work too. Now I couldn't tell you how long the 9 volt battery is going to last. But you know those in standby, those tuners don't take nothing hardly. In standby it was when you hit the tune button they do anything and that's what they activate their relays and all that stuff. And that takes a little bit of power. But I mean, I know he gets, he gets some time out of the nine volt batteries.

2026-02-01 15:08:44 UTC 44.6s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Okay. Yeah. Well, we just go to Costco and get the either. Well, most of the time it's the Duracell brand that we get from there. But I have gotten some of their Kirkland brand ones that are made probably by Duracell as well. And I know you guys were talking about them leaking, leaking or something like that. I've never had that problem. But I've never really kept them in the packaging they've come in either, maybe for a short period of time. And I also do the same thing that you do when they have that little plastic sleeve that they set on. I just leave them on that sometimes in another type of a container, so same idea.

2026-02-01 15:10:05 UTC 56.7s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And Duracell's been a tried and true brand for a long time imagining that they make them for Kirkland as well. So I just wonder if Kirkland has a little bit different standards. In other words, like let's say it's the reject, right? So like beer, I don't drink beer. But if you get something like Keystone, well you're just getting weaker part of the batch like Coors and so forth. And it goes down the line. Like for Miller if you wanted to get like Genuine Draft or something like that or Michelob, you're getting the top of the line beer. But then as it goes down downhill from there, you know, you start getting a little bit cheaper beers. My dad used to drink a lot of Micheloba and I liked it, okay, but it wasn't my favorite at the time. I was a Miller Genuine Draft kind of a guy back then.

2026-02-01 15:11:49 UTC 201.1s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Yeah, Old Milwaukee. My. My grandpa used to drink some of that pretty weak stuff, but it felt like a lager. So people like that, I don't know around here in this area. Feather Falls Brewing. I used to really like their beer when I was drinking some. And they had Soaring Eagle. A Soaring Eagle was a lager. Lager, whatever, you know, and very, very like a smooth deer. And I used to really like that one a lot and get a nice like a 20 ounce version of that. Used to get them for like three bucks. And I could have a couple of those and be pretty happy. Have that with a nice 12 ounce prime rib dinner. Oh, man, that was good times. Prime rib dinner back then was like $14.95. Yeah. So that and the beer, about 20 bucks. I was set. You know, those were the happy days, man. Then I started drinking some of the more cloudier type beers, you know, a little stronger. But not IPAs. I've never been an IPA fan. So they have one called the Dancing Trees. Dancing Trees. And you serve that with a couple wedges of orange and it's real nice. It's a wheat beer. Anyway, all that stuff started to really bother my stomach. I'd go in there and have one Dancing Trees. And by the time I got home, my whole stomach was just going crazy and had to use the restroom and stuff like that for a couple hours. Just all that. I think I have some IBS or whatever you want to call it, but the wheat really makes it makes it worse. Yeah.Kn6NGK. Probably too much information, but yeah, we all have our issues that I tend to have. That's why I don't like to leave too early in the morning. I tend to have some issues in the morning with using the restroom. Yep. So that's why I stay away from a lot of wheat if I can. Yeah, I'll get it in the hot dog bun or whatever, but. But yeah, my wife makes like this nice persimmon bread or zucchini bread or anything like that. Right now it's persimmon bread because we have a huge, huge persimmon harvest this year. So pretty much everything is persimmon this year. And then so she'll make that bread fairly dense and remind you of the consistency of a muffin anyway. And she doesn't put very much wheat in it at all. So I respond much better to that. She puts a lot of good things in it, like our own raisins and nuts and things like that. So makes it really, really hardy. I'd like to have a slice of that every now and again.

2026-02-01 15:15:34 UTC 59.5s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: What'd you say it was? $3.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
Speaker A: Yeah. So they want to go into the extra portion. Yeah, I can go in there. Yeah. I don't. I don't see why you don't
Speaker B: want to get it. You can get it so easy. I'm sure. So I'd be happy to help you. Not that I'm smart. I'm not. But just like, flashcards kind of help you, you know, and then we can pick a couple of subjects or whatever the stuff. A lot of the questions are so simple that, you know. Yeah, there's maybe two sections, maybe there's nine sections, something like that. Maybe 10 sections. There might be two or three sections that are a little bit more difficult, but the rest of them are simple stuff.

2026-02-01 15:16:56 UTC 324.5s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Yeah, I didn't use any of that stuff, but if you've invested in it, that's fine. The other friends of mine have done that stuff too. I think it just takes too much time. There was a big. Not a big one, but there's a live stream yesterday. Ham radio crash course. Supposed to be about Linux, Linux 73 and Dragon OS. Right up my alley. I started to watch it and they kept talking about everything else but the subject matter that we're supposed to be talking about in the live stream, which. That really bugs me. But anyway, they were talking a lot about people getting their extras without knowing anything about radio. You know, they don't even have a technician license. They don't know nothing about radio. They just study all the tests, memorize the answers, take the test and get their extra right from the start. And there's a lot of people doing that. So yeah, I came in. I'm kind of more of a hybrid myself. I was probably getting like 60% right without doing anything extra. And then I started to study a couple of other subject matters that are in there, like more about semiconductors and stuff. That's what I'm real weak on. And that brought me up a little bit more, but still really not passing. And then I started memorizing some of the stuff too. So that's how I got it. I missed like four questions or something out of 50. I think you can miss like 13. So it's not that big a deal. So I don't know that you really need all that ham radio prep stuff. Not a guy like you who's pretty intelligent on all this other stuff already. Like for example, one of the questions that usually has to do with all these digital modes, like essentially how many seconds is it transmit and receive on FTEs, right? You probably know the answer to that already. Yeah, so that's some things that you would know that I knew some of that stuff too. Like. So you'll know. You'll have to. Just some of the things you have to memorize anyway. So like example, what's the bandwidth on the FT8? What's the bandwidth on CW? A few bandwidths of a few different digital modes that I'm already forgetting. You know, you have to kind of memorize that anyway because you'll probably never use those modes like Pactor. You may have used Pactor way back when, but I don't think anyone uses that now. Everyone uses like Vera hf, right? Yeah, I mean, so one of the guys that Gears that talked about all the tests are getting Harder and harder. It's only because he's like 80 years old and he doesn't think that digital modes are ham radio and anyway. But everyone else like us that has been messing with digital modes, we don't think that's tougher. We think sometimes it's a little bit simpler anyway. But yeah, I mean, I guess I'll drop it. But you know, it'd be fun if you. If you got. Got it because more of just like a bucket list thing. Not that you really use it that much, to be honest. There is some spots, however, like you just talked about one of them right there, the 80. 80 meters. But there's also others like, you know, you start getting into the. I had to look it up the other day on 15. 15 meters? Yeah, 15 meters. I had to look it up as to where I needed to be so I could be in the general section on sideband. I don't. I forget about all that stuff because I don't care. I can operate anywhere that other people are operating right now and I have to look it up. But. But when it comes to like winter field day and stuff, if you want the most people to be able to get back to you, then you got to be in the general section, if you can. Although people do get into the advanced and extra sections so that they can weed out some of the others, I guess. But that's all part of it. But yeah, there's some. There's some other things that XTRA gives you. Just like you get some more international abilities too. KN6NGK. Yeah, like some of the Canadian frequencies, like even on 40 meters they don't go up, as you know. Where do you start? Like 71, 78. Well, anyway, I think they only go up to like 7,000, 190 or something like that. Or maybe 7,200. Anyway, so if you want any Canadians to respond to any side band on 40 meters, you have to keep it within that range, otherwise they can't talk to us.

Yeah, well, there's already equipment out there. A lot of us have that have that in it. We just not supposed to use it, you know, I said it, right, not supposed to use it. I said, well, that would make some sense as some of us already have equipment that does that and we're not supposed to use it. Right. But anyway, some of that equipment, especially made in China, has that capability already. So a real simple thing versus equipment having 220. There's actually less of that around these days. So they kind of quit because nobody was using it. But since other parts of the world use four, they supply equipment that have that ability. They just might turn it off in the software type of a thing or put a resistor in place or whatever. You have to snip that type of thing. But anyway, yeah, it's fun anyway. Yeah. So what you got going on today? Yeah, there's a net coming on and about maybe. Well, so probably already people talking on it. Actually at 38, 55 emergency net that I sometimes get involved in at least. I just, you know, it starts, well, 8 o' clock is the net time, but people start talking about now anyway from around this area. I'll probably do that. But I think that'll be about it for Radia up until maybe this afternoon if my wife allows me. She wants to leave at about 2 o' clock for a short time, but might get a chance to do a PODA or something this afternoon is what I'm saying. So we'll see. Getting the lights stand a little bit, you know, longer now. So might be able to go out and get a little something in in the afternoon. We'll see. May do something tomorrow too, the morning we'll see. But other than that, I got. I got to change my oil. I got to do some gardening type stuff and working on my lawn here. I don't know, this is some of the busiest time of the year for me in February, March. There's so much to try to get done before it gets hot. Oh yeah, Yeah. I just sprayed about 8 gallons yesterday. Caught the electric. I got a sprayer from Amazon that another gardening channel recommended that has a lithium ion battery in it. And yeah, it took about 20 minutes to get it primed. But anyway, I mixed up about 5 gallons of Roundup in there and I think it probably took a half a gallon to prime the dang thing anyway. Sprayed that out and mixed up another four or five gallons and sprayed that out. Now I gotta wait a week, see what happens. Now. I don't. I don't buy Roundup. I buy the stuff from tractor Supply. Same thing. Basically, you know their brand. It's like 50 bucks for. I don't know, what is that? Maybe it's a half a gallon or something like that of concentrate. 41% by glycostophate or whatever, the bad stuff. But I don't care for weeds, man. It's not for my garden. Oh, yeah, Yeah. I don't know. When he goes, there's certain ones that work and certain ones that don't, but yeah, you need the 41% at least. You don't buy. I don't buy the stuff that's already like pre mixed in the little jug or something like that. No, I buy the concentrate. So that's how you got to get it. And you got to mix it like 3 ounces to the gallon for that 41%. Then I'll knock things down pretty good. So, yeah, so seriously, like, if I mix up 5 gallons, then I gotta put 15 ounces of stuff in there to really get it, you know, get it good.

Speaker A: Yeah. The
Speaker B: questions
Speaker A: tend to be like, okay,
Speaker B: what mode would you use for meteor scatter? Do you know? Well, yeah, the answer to the question is right,
Speaker A: actually, in the. In the mode, it starts out with like msk. So it's a simple thing, you know, it's like meteor scatter, MSK something 31 or whatever it is, MSK. Anyway,
Speaker B: probably a
Speaker A: mode
Speaker B: on there.
Speaker A: So.
Speaker B: Yep. So a question like that. The other memorization questions would be
Speaker A: like, what kind of certificate? Or what. What do you need, like, to. What are the rules for, like, going to another country? Like, like, say you were going to go and want to work in Europe. So what are the rules? Being able to. Reciprocally, what are the rules that you have to abide by when you're in other countries? Those are memorization questions. I forget. But there's a certain certificate you might need to get before you go
Speaker B: so you can operate in another country. Yeah. Not forget, because I have no plans of doing that.
Speaker A: But another friend of mine, he got his extra just because a certain country, I think he was going to Norway or Hungary, I can't remember which one. His wife's from one of those two countries. I can't recall. But anyway, he was going there and he goes there like once every couple years. And anyway, he had to get his extra because he wanted to be able to operate within the band range that they had over there. So that's another reason to get an extra, actually. But, you know, probably you and I don't really intend on going out of country, so that doesn't really bother us too much. But you still have to know the stupid answer to the stupid question.

Speaker A: Well, good morning and welcome to the Coffee breaknet. I can tell people are eager to get on the air this morning. Of course, it's beautiful here in Auburn, California. Coffee breaknet is every Morning on the W60K repeater in Auburn, California. Spark, sponsored by Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club. 7:30 till around 10am Every morning Pacific time. This is Jeff KW6U. Glad to be alive this morning. What a beautiful day. Let me go over the national days real quick and then we'll get on with it. Let's see, we've got looking, looking, looking. We've got a lot of days, but I usually like the food ones. But this is an important day. Today is the day of the abolition of slavery, or also known as national freedom day. President Lincoln signed a declaration to end slavery, so that's a big deal. Let's see, change your password day. You know, we ought to do that every year at least. Those passwords are probably out there nearly everywhere. Let's see, dump your significant jerk day. I don't have any significant jerks in my life. Pretty much any jerk that I have, I dump them anyway, so not a big deal. Now, dark chocolate day. Are you a dark chocolate fan? And there's also national pork rind. How about that? Pork rinds and dark chocolate. Well, good morning, coffee breaknet. This is kw6u. I'll go ahead and take a round of quick in and outs here this morning. Quick in and outs.

Speaker A: Yep, I tried to catch you right up front. The first time you checked in you were a little fuzzy, but you were coming in very clear.
Speaker B: Well, I've got 5s and I bought a new one to replace the old one that just keeps shutting off and doing weird things. And of course I'm daring enough to
Speaker A: use the old one.

Speaker B: Well, it's 20 degrees, it's partly cloudy, it's chilly, but not too chilly to where you need a jacket, maybe just a hoodie. And yesterday it got up to 50, so maybe it'll do something like that today.
Speaker A: Sounds like a good day to be pedestrian mobile.
Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. I think it'll be a great day. I have no plans, gonna kick back whatever comes up. So anyway. Oh yeah, dark chocolate. I like dark chocolate. It's pretty good.
Speaker A: So.
Speaker B: Just commented on that one.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm a big fan of dark chocolate. Almost the darker the better. It's got to be at least 70% dark chocolate, but I'll go up to 90%. I still love it. I like the bitterness of it.
Speaker B: Good stuff. I think you're a little past me, but I'm somewhere on the borderline. I got to still have a little bit of sweetness to it. But anyway, I'll turn it back over to you.

So congratulations to Matt and Brian. They were a team for a while, but great turnout, good time. We had a good debrief at Burger and Cream and Matt succeeded in having a free lunch at Burger and Green because he was the winner.
Speaker A: Oh, good for him. Yeah, I know he's enjoying himself on that stuff. Learning and having a great day and of course, great way to finish it off. Burgers and Cream.
Speaker E: You know, I don't want to say
Speaker A: it was cute, but it was.
Speaker E: Well, it was cute. He wanted this little raffle ticket that I gave. Well, what we did yesterday is we had a roll of raffle, take us a small roll at the transmitter and you peeled off the lowest number and brought it back to prove number one, you had found it and two, to declare your win or your position. And Matt came back and he gave me the little stub and he said, I want that back because I'm going to frame it.
Speaker A: Oh, my. That's pretty good. His first big Fox Hunt win. Why not? You know, that's a notable event.
Speaker E: So again, I want to thank everybody that turned out. You know, we're already starting to plan the Fox Hunt for February. And Marty Ko6gxx, who is the president of the Nevada County Amateur Radio Club and also participates in our events, has agreed to be the host. It'll be his first. We call it the Fox Tender. It'll be the first opportunity to do that. And we'll help him out, of course, load them the equipment and we'll show them the procedures that we go through and then let him add his own touch. So that's great. I also want to remind people that tomorrow night is the BE session at the Confluence Church at 7 o'.
Speaker A: Clock.
Speaker E: If you're interested in upgrading. If you're interested in getting your ticket and you haven't signed up, please, please go in and do so. Everything you need to know on how
Speaker C: to sign up is on the club
Speaker E: website and we'll be having Elmer's there as well. And if you're interested, I have a good turnout of Elmer's for tomorrow. But if you're interested in seeing what Elmer's do and how we work and how we help out in that event, and you might be curious on how the whole ve works, drop on by and we're going to have breakfast at 5 o' clock at Brewers Burgers and then move over to the church.
Speaker A: Brewers Burgers? Where are they exactly? I. I don't think I know.
Speaker E: Something tells me I said breakfast. I meant dinner. Yeah, we're gonna have dinner at 5 o'.
Speaker B: Clock.
Speaker E: 5pm they are right next door to. Really?
Speaker A: Okay, very good. Haven't been there yet. I'll have to go check it out. That's one of those things on the list. Well, thanks for running the fox hunt. It sounds like a great success. Certainly for Matt. No doubt about it. And next month, having a new fox tender. That'll be fun.
Speaker E: Yeah, it's going to be a great year, fox hunting, if you've ever been interested in that, if you want to get involved, we're really going to push this year to get more people involved. It's fun, it's a fun sport. It's fun being the tender as well as fun doing the fox hunt itself. But I'll let you get back. I know these were short in and outs and I made it long. Thanks, Jeff, for running that KC6SOLE.
Speaker A: All right, Gray, nice chatting with you. KC6SOLE kW6U73. Good morning, Ray. KK 6am how are you this morning?
Speaker G: Kind of waking up, but other than that, no real problem.
Speaker A: Well, you're on the right side of the grass, so that's all that matters.
Speaker G: I suppose. Anyway, not a whole lot to add today. May find something I need to jump in on later, but right now, not much to say.
Speaker A: Totally fine. You can comment anytime and we'll enjoy your morning. At least keep your coffee going and whatever else you need for the morning to get on with your day. You'll be probably hanging out at home. Or are you going to get out and about today and try and get some grocery shopping done?
Speaker G: Oh, I have a kind of a rule on weekends. I don't go shopping. The people that have to work and, you know, have to do their thing on the weekend, let them have it that way. I'm not bothered being crowded by them.
Speaker A: I think I knew that rule as soon as I finished saying what I was saying.
Speaker B: So.
Speaker A: All right, Ray, well, you have a great day and feel free to chime in if something piques your interest. Other than that, have a wonderful day. It looks like we're going to have a good one up here.
Speaker G: Oh, you know I'll always jump in if I feel mess. And Siri, probably about the time you start talking about good food.
Speaker A: Oh well.
Speaker G: 73 KK 6am all right.
Speaker A: Yeah, everybody loves the good food. KK 66am KW 6U 73 Good morning Rick. Katie 6 CDQ. How are you this morning? And you're probably down in the fog at the moment.
Speaker C: Good morning Jeff and Annette.
Speaker A: This is Kelo Delta 6 Charlie, Delta Quebec. Yeah, Rick. In beautiful downtown suburban foggy North Islands. Yeah, we got the pea soup out here this morning, but it'll probably burn
Speaker F: off in a few hours, I hope.
Speaker A: Yeah, not much going on today, that's for sure. Anyways, nice to say hello to everybody. Have a good day today. And this is KD6CDQ. Rick saying 73s everybody have a good one. All right, quick in and out for you. Have a great day. Enjoy whatever it is you want to do today. Katie 6 CDQ KW6U73. Good morning Robert Ko6 KMR. How are you this morning and are you a dark chocolate fan?
Speaker D: Well, I'm doing absolutely wonderful, appreciate you asking. And I'm just a chocolate fan. Just any kind of chocolate, dark chocolate, light chocolate, any of it most of the time. Karen, the wife, she makes a great brownie with the dark chocolate which is just unbelievably good.
Speaker A: So love that.
Speaker D: Otherwise just finished a cup of coffee, listening to the Chance and gonna go to the gym, gonna walk up there and it's only about a mile. So I walk to the gym, work out for about an hour, hour and a half and then walk back home and then we're gonna get out and do something today, just not sure what.
Speaker C: Over.
Speaker A: Well that sounds like you're starting your day off right, getting to the gym and walking there and walking back. So they must be convenient enough to do that. But who knows, maybe it's a 10 mile walk.
Speaker D: No, it's only a mile. It's only a mile out, a mile back over.
Speaker A: Gotcha. Completely understand that yesterday I was able to get out and do 15.4 miles. I had the grandkids in the morning and then Took off my walk after that. So working it, working it hard to get those miles up.
Speaker D: Wow, that's a crazy amount there.
Speaker E: Over.
Speaker A: There's a purpose for it. It's all training stuff. So it was a beautiful day out there to just enjoy a canyon walk and you know, or hike really and kind of get things going. So yep, it's good to get out there and do that when you can.
Speaker D: Other than that, that's all I've got this morning. I'll continue listening if I hear something later. I might chime in if it's okay. So I'll go and give it back to the net. Kilo Oscar 6 KMR and I'll just say 73 right now, but I will be listening, over.
Speaker A: All right, Robert, Something floats your boat. Come back and check in. K06KMR KW6U73. And good morning, Patrick. M2DYI. Well, I've got you early for our standards over here.
Speaker F: Good morning, Jeff.
Speaker C: Morning.
Speaker D: To whom?
Speaker F: Anyone else here?
Speaker A: Who.
Speaker F: To whom warning applies. Yeah, wasn't sure if I was going to be around later. I've got a few things that I need to take care of, so figured I would get in here now while I can.
Speaker A: Well, very good. At least you're awake. You know, sometimes when you check in first thing in the morning, you were already awake for quite a long time. That's the way that goes sometimes with your sleep patterns. But are you a dark chocolate fan?
Speaker F: Yeah, that's the way it is today too. I've been awake since three. No, I am not. I will be your first non dark chocolate fan of the Net. There is chocolate, which I'm fine with. And then there is dark chocolate, which as far as I'm concerned, doesn't have
Speaker A: a right to exist. Oh, now, now, now. You're missing out on some things, I guess. You don't think so. Probably too bitter or not sweet enough. And you may not like love chocolate the way I do.
Speaker F: I love chocolate, especially stuff that doesn't come from the United States, but dark chocolate. Not a fan. Oh, well, more for you, I guess.
Speaker A: Years ago we went to Guatemala and I had some just amazing dark chocolate down there and got really hooked. So I can. I can say that it may depend on where it comes from and how it's made.
Speaker F: Maybe I haven't had too much international dark chocolate, but definitely have had some good chocolate.
Speaker A: Let's see, we got about 7 inches
Speaker F: of snow yesterday, which is all still on the ground. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning.

Yeah. See, one thing that I find real interesting that, you know, an out of resonant dipole for me is way better listening than one that's more resonant. So, example, I've got two antennas going right now and one's got a S9 noise level. The other one's my off center fed that I have set for 40 meters. Its noise level is like S1. So the listening is way better on that one. There's the sound there, I turn that one down and here's the sound of the other one. To me it's a big difference, just noise.

Speaker A: Yeah. I hit the tune button just to see
Speaker B: what would happen, and it just immediately goes high swr and then backs off. No, thanks.
Speaker A: Yeah, maybe the tuner on the 9918 is slightly better. I don't know. But the end, you know, so that's the way it goes. One of these times I need to try. Try it vertical on 80 meters. I think I should be able to do it. I have to get a wire way up there in that tree, bring it straight down, maybe.

2026-02-01 15:35:20 UTC 32.3s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Oh, yeah, big difference. Trying to tell Dennis about that, too, because he wants to run his little Compromise vertical on 80. So you see how big you're dropping, like 30 decibels. NVIs. It's a big deal. You want to have a horizontal if you can. So I was trying to get him to, like, maybe put a wire horizontally off this vertical to work the difference. Give you a little bit of a vertical component. I'm sorry, a horizontal component to his vertical.

Anyway. Yeah, but this particular net, it only lasts maybe like eight minutes when it starts at 8:00'. Clock. It's just some rag chewers that are from the local area around here, around Humboldt county and so forth. There's a guy in Oroville that checks in and a few people around different areas, but I think they were a bunch of old buddies back in the day. This guy that's the net control guy is like in his 90s anyway, but they're just really kind of checking in vis really once a week, so pretty good. And sometimes there's guys there that only try 5 watts.

2026-02-01 15:40:15 UTC 17.8s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

I mean, listen to that beautiful FPDX 10 sound on 80 meters. Boy, I tell you, there's no white noise in it at all when you take that attenuator and do all you got to do to filter it out. Pretty nice.

Speaker A: Okay. And six mgk. So, Jay, if you get African stations, how have you been best getting African stations? I'd sure
Speaker B: like to get into Africa a little bit better. Yeah, I'm talking about FP8.
Speaker A: Anyway, right now. So, like, is there a particular band that's worked better for you on
Speaker B: for Africa?
Speaker A: Yeah. Like
Speaker B: Hawaii,
Speaker A: for instance. A lot more guys hang out on 10 and 15 meters in Hawaii. I have gotten this one guy on 40 meters a couple times in Hawaii. But Hawaii is not the easiest for me either. I gotta get over to 10 or 15 meters.

2026-02-01 15:46:10 UTC 37.1s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: What
Speaker A: kind of time of day?
Speaker B: That's interesting. So that's actually pretty early.
Speaker A: 1500s. Yeah. Because we're eight back, right? That's pretty early in the morning. Really? That's like eight in the morning or something, right? Eight, nine in the morning. Yeah, probably like eight in the morning.

Yeah. I'm still a long ways away from getting DX World Award 50% or something. Yeah, yeah. Mixed. Oh, boy. Just looking at my QRZ page for awards.

2026-02-01 15:48:17 UTC 61.4s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: Well, for the 50 United States awards, I still have some work to do on phone. Let's see, I've gotten them for other things already.
Speaker B: Mississippi,
Speaker A: Rhode island, and Vermont. Vermont's
Speaker B: always a pain for a phone. Yep. I got Vermont
Speaker A: on On digital, and I got it on cw. But, yeah, getting on
Speaker B: phone is not the easiest. Mississippi, though. That's a joke. I should get that. No
Speaker A: problem. I'll have to keep my eyes open for Mississippi on phone. Just haven't been using phone too often.

2026-02-01 15:49:40 UTC 122.8s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: Yep. CW's got some work to do also. Delaware, Hawaii, Vermont, West Virginia. Yeah, so I got some work to do. Those would be some good, good goals to have this year to
Speaker B: finish. Finish those. Oh, so you actually have
Speaker A: plaques? I don't know, I just have these things that, you know, show up on my, on my feet or whatever. Awards or whatever. So you actually have some sort of plaques. I don't think they even
Speaker B: sell those anymore, do they? Yep. Okay. Yeah, certificates.
Speaker A: You can definitely get those. Yeah. Anyway, yeah, I don't think I'd want to get one at all. If I did, I'd want to wait until I have like all, all modes finished so I could have the, so I could show, you know, hopefully it would say that, you know, all the different, you know, CW mix phone and so forth. I think there's four different possibilities, so that way they're all listed. What do they call that?
Speaker B: Endorsement? Yep. Yeah, that's just something else. Yeah, that's why it's
Speaker A: just something to play with it really. I mean, it doesn't matter, but yeah, you gotta have some good stuff. A good antennas like he's got for some of that.

Speaker A: To get a root canal. Totally looking forward to that. Can you, can you tell how excited I am? I am absolutely excited about my new uproot canal.
Speaker B: Yes.
Speaker A: The, the problem though is that I have a feeling it's going to get rescheduled because even though it's not snowing anymore, a lot of people around here are not equipped to or can't drive in the snow. So I am thinking it's probably not going to happen tomorrow.
Speaker C: We'll see.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's no fun. It's no fun either way. So you're thinking that it'll be cancelled by then? I guess you never know. I mean, a root canal is something to look forward to. It might take away some difficulties you're having.
Speaker A: Well, I'm looking forward to the part after the root canal, especially maybe a few days after. But yeah, it's. It's necessary and I'm here for it, but rather get it over with, I guess.
Speaker D: Yeah.
Speaker B: Once you make up your mind, sometimes your mind is made up for you. My first root canal, I just stumbled into a whole bunch of pain and the moment they took the pain away, I was so relieved. It was, it was a real sense of gratitude.
Speaker A: Yeah, I can definitely understand that. Last Sunday was just absolutely fantastically bad. I was basically rendered just about useless with so much pain. Fortunately, it's not nearly bad now. I'm on antibiotics and I've got stuff to cope with it and it's pretty manageable now, but I'd rather not have a repeat of that process. So. Yeah, sure, make it go away.
Speaker B: Exactly. Sometimes you're faced with that decision where it's immediate, but that doesn't sound like it's the case right now. Somehow it's moved along and now you're doing better and so you can schedule your root canal.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's still there, but I don't really notice it unless I really pay attention. That's better than it being as bad as it was, but it's not as good as it not being there at all. So, yeah, I'll take it. We'll see what happens. I guess if nothing else, it'll. It'll, I guess, happen sometime this week. I don't know how I'm going to pay for it because I'm way out of network. But it couldn't wait until I could get back home. So I will just figure that out later. I guess
Speaker B: I forgot about the cost of those things.
Speaker C: Pretty good insurance, so.
Speaker B: Well, take care. Good luck with that and hopefully you are able to get there in the snow and safely would rather not start something else and we'll have a have a good day then before that point Indeed.
Speaker A: I'm just going to try to stay warm. It's actually it's not as cold as they said it was going to be in the forecast. Originally they said it would get down to around 8 degrees. Well it only made it to 13 so there. Now it's up in the. In the early 20s. It's about 21 right now. So nice and warm. Get out of your Bermuda shorts and
Speaker C: go dancing with that.
Speaker A: I'll say 7:3, let you get on to the rest of the net. Have a good one. KW6U and two DYI.
Speaker C: All right.
Speaker B: Patrick.
Speaker E: Yeah.
Speaker B: Get out of your. Get on your Bermuda shorts for the slightly warmer weather into DYI KW 6273.
Speaker D: All right.
Speaker B: Good morning Coffee breaknet. This is kw6u. Go ahead and take some check ins. Let me know if you are and in and out and I'll put you to the front. KW6U taking check ins.
Speaker D: Kilo 6 Delta X Ray November. Good morning Jeff.
Speaker C: KB6 Luv rest. Good morning.
Speaker E: Good morning. Kca, fox coin victor, mark, K3 victor. Go mike, in and out please.
Speaker B: Kc9uir, kilo, charlie 9 uniform, india, romeo, andy from wisconsin.
Speaker D: Kilo, oster 6 of the hotel juliet, larry.

I've got you down as an in and out. And let's see mark, kc8fqv, brett, kb6luv and simone. K6dxn. Simone, do you mind if I go take care of our in n out first?
Speaker D: Absolutely not. That's the way the game is played.
Speaker B: Well, I'll go ahead and do that. Goy Jimmy, K A3 Victor, Golf Mike as you're in and out. How are you this morning?
Speaker E: I'm doing okay. Another cold day in Pennsylvania.
Speaker D: It was.
Speaker E: It only got down to minus one right now last night. That's what I was told and right now the computer says it's 6 above so it's still cold but at least it's warmer than it has been. Pretty bad when 6 degrees is considered warm. But oh well it's supposed to warm up a little bit later on this week so hopefully it does. Everybody have a good day. Okay, back to that.
Speaker B: Yeah, you be safe out there. It could be cold in Time. So have a good day, take care of yourself, and we'll see you next time at KA3 Victor Golf Mike Jimmy 73. And let's go through the rest of our list here. Good morning, Simon. K6DXN. What are you up to today?
Speaker D: Good morning, Jeff. First and foremost, let me start by getting some more coffee and talking. Right.
Speaker A: How are you
Speaker B: doing? Well, I have already had a couple of cups of coffee. The sun is beating. Peeking through the window, I can see it's beautiful out here in Auburn. And I'm presuming you're probably seeing a little bit of sun as well.
Speaker D: Yeah, I can tell when the sun is shining because there's a spot where I come down the stairs that these windows are way high up. It almost feels like I'm walking by a heater vent in that one little spot. Just stop on the stairs and sit there on the steps like a cat laying in the window in the sun.
Speaker B: I had the same thought. This particular room the shack is in gets that morning sunrise poking through the trees and then it. Boy, it warms it up pretty quick. So it feels good in here.
Speaker D: Roger. Roger. Let's see. Well, this week I went down to Folsom with Jimmy, my partner in crime, my POTA partner in crime, my Broda, as we say, rose on the air. And I got my Kilo Award. It's a big accomplish accomplishment for me. Kilo award being 1000 contacts from one particular part park did that, filmed it for my channel yesterday. Him and I took off early and went down and activated two new parks. I got to get three more. I forgot for what award that is, but it said I needed five more unique parks. So got two of them out of the way. Yesterday we went down and activated a real quick stop at Stone Lake
Speaker B: Wildlife Reserve.
Speaker D: And then we went and spent, I don't know, three or four hours or no, about two or three hours on Brannan island on the delta. That's a neat place. Lots of waterfowl and just you're right on the water. And no one was around. It was just us pretty much. And set up our table and our PODA performer and we activated, I don't know, two or three bands there. So we did well there. Band was doing really well. So all voice, by the way, for uft. Just kidding. Kind of. I'm a side band guy, man. I like talking to people. Obviously I'm talking to you right now. That's what I signed up for. And yeah, it was cool. The last contact, we closed it out with was to Oscar Henry 6 Romeo Mike in Finland. So we had a nice little, I don't know, five minute chat with the guy in Finland. That's a good place to stop, don't you think, Jimmy? We had two hour drive home, so that's where we closed it out. Back to you, Jeff.
Speaker B: Very cool. So from that location you were getting into Finland nicely. So that's always good to hear. And I've forgotten about your. Your YouTube page. Parks in the dark. I love that name. But 1,000 podas from one location, that is fantastic. So you have an award.
Speaker C: That's cool.
Speaker D: I have that one amongst a bunch of others. I don't understand or follow all of them, but I really enjoy just getting out. And to me it's like the best of both worlds. You're out in, you know, nature or the sun, the elements and you get to play ham radio and test out your, you know, your emergency or whatever set up and. Yeah, I just, I mean, I don't know. Poda for me is best thing that's ever happened to ham radio. So yeah, it was a great time. I did post some videos yesterday. I called them like activating in the fog because it was foggy. Jimmy's like, I don't know, man, I can only see like 10ft away. I said, well, that's like 10ft farther than I can see. Yeah.
Speaker B: I was wondering, you could feel the fog. Sometimes when it gets like that, it's misty. You can feel it on your skin and you know that it's foggy.
Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, you can. It's like thick. It's like a cold pea soup. And dark chocolate. I like dark chocolate. In fact, one of my favorite things to get when I go to a good Mexican restaurant and one I will recommend is on old Auburn road or Auburn, what's that called?
Speaker C: Folsom.
Speaker D: Auburn Road. Don and I tried this place recently. It's on the outskirts of Folsom right there called Casa de Lagos. I think that's. Yeah, Casa de Lagos. And I had the chicken mole and I believe mole is made with dark chocolate, if I'm not mistaken. I had the chicken mole enchiladas with black beans and rice and man, it was fantastic. The service was great, the food was great and both of us ate lunch for under 40 bucks or right around 40. I know that's a lot, but in today's day and age for a good sit down meal, considering you could spend 40 bucks to go to McDonald's for a family these days or more, I thought that was Reasonable.
Speaker B: Yeah, it sounds like an absolute steal to me. And of course, there's always a rivalry between Folsom Auburn and Auburn Folsom. It's always Auburn Folsom, as far as I'm concerned.
Speaker E: It's longer.
Speaker B: That's the old thing. You can see where it changes from Auburn Folsom to Folsom Auburn when you drive down. But yeah, mole is made with chocolate and sometimes a little cinnamon. I do like a good mole, and that's one of the things I do when I try out a new Mexican restaurant, is I taste their mole and see how they make it. I just. I like it. Chicken mole, especially.
Speaker D: Ah, we're cut from the same cloth, Jeff. Well, I'll give you two places. That's one, the Casa Delagos and another place that has fantastic mole. In fact, I order a cup of it and dip chips into it is Katrina's Cantina in Rockland. Is it rock? Yeah, it's in Rockland. Katrina's Cantina. Those two are the best Mexican food I've had in Northern Cal. And I'm Southern California spoiled when it comes to Mexican food. Kind of a Mexican food snob, I guess. But, yeah, those two places, I will say, are the best Mexican food I've had in Northern California. So you ever get a chance take your wife to a nice place for a good dinner or lunch? Those two I can highly recommend. Well, thanks for taking my chef. And, yeah, anybody who wants to check out the videos I put up, I shot them on my Ray Ban Metas yesterday. And I always try to have a little fun, make little fun comments. I don't take myself too seriously, you know, So I try to make my channel a little more different. Leave all the technical jerking and seriousness for the other channels. For me, it's just a matter of having fun and having somewhere to put my videos. So in the dark. I put some stuff up yesterday and I already. I looked right after I put them up, and I was like, wow, it's already got 254 views or something. And so, you know, there is people looking at them whether they're enjoying them or not. I couldn't tell you, but they are getting hits, so. All right, Jeff, you have a great day. And my wife is coming home from Southern Cal today. I've been bacheloring it since Thursday, so I don't mind. I kind of like being alone sometimes. Just gives me time to do whatever, you know, I feel like doing and. But I'll be happy to have her home. So you have yourself a Great day. Thanks for taking my check in. Keep Kilo 6 Delta x3 November Cameron park
Speaker B: all right, Simone, thanks for checking in. Yeah, that's pretty good. 254 views in a very. You know, ham radio. YouTube is sort of niche, so apparently there's enough that are following you and want to know what's going on with Simone. So great job. K6DXN KW6U73. Good morning, Brett. KB6LUV how are you this morning? And you must be in the fog. I think the sun hasn't come out just yet for you.
Speaker C: Good morning, Jeff. And coffee break. Nuts. Yep, it is a beautiful, actually sunny day here in South Natomas. That orange fall in the sky has made its appearance. It's got some, you know, some light haze in the sky, but it's. It's just pretty sunny down here. So kind of gorgeous for the morning.
Speaker B: Glad to hear it. We always want to see that big ball in the sky. Yes, sir.
Speaker C: Yes, sir.
Speaker B: Three bags full.
Speaker C: I'll be happy to have it there as long as it wants to stay. So it's supposed to warm up to a ball. 60 degrees today, so. Yeah, that's almost swimming pool weather, right? Hi. Hi. So just sitting here enjoying the morning with my wife and just enjoying the radio and waking up to the coffee break net. Not a whole lot on tap for today. Obviously there's no football. Sorry, Larry. Gotta wait one more week to see your team. But yeah, it'll be kind of a lazy Sunday hanging around, maybe doing a little bit of cooking, maybe a little bit of eating and not a whole lot, so. Oh, dark chocolate. I prefer dark chocolate to regular chocolate. And my favorite is probably dark chocolate covered candied ginger from See's, although I don't know if they make that anymore.
Speaker B: Yeah, See's is always a popular thing and at the hospital for sure. That was just one of those things. We always had everything that Sees has ever made.
Speaker C: And I don't know if there's anything from See's that I don't like, but
Speaker B: I do lean on the dark chocolate.
Speaker C: And then also right behind that would be dark chocolate covered marzipan. That's another favorite. That's delicious. If you like marzipan or almond paste. Dark chocolate covered. Marshall from seeds. Seeds is absolutely delicious.
Speaker B: Well, there's a reason they've been around for a long time and are everywhere so easy to find a seed if you want to go get one.
Speaker C: They've gotten really expensive though. I mean, I guess everything cost of everything has gone up. But like, even a small box of dark chocolate covered marzipan like 10, 12 pieces was 25 bucks.
Speaker B: Oh boy that's changed quite a bit. So we have food inflation hitting See's candy I guess that's that's expected. I remember when I first came to Sacramento I hadn't really had seed when I when I came here from San Antonio up to that point never really had it that much and worked in health care you always get gifts of boxes of See's candy from patients at the end of their treatment. It's one of those things they do I think I put on in that first year £20 of See's chocolate so it was my £20 that I put on just related to that I'm sure
Speaker C: yeah See's candy will definitely do that to you. It'll add a little ramp weight to your ramp weight.
Speaker B: Yeah I obviously had to scale that back. I was pretty skinny at the time so putting on the weight was.

Speaker B: that takes. Yeah. 250th
Speaker A: anniversary in the United States of America. So it looks like. Yep. I don't know what it takes, but it looks like I've only got 12% out of 250 entities.

Radio News line report number 2517 with the release date of Friday, January 23, 2026 to follow in five 4, 3, 2, 1. Now reporting from Wadsworth, Ohio, here's Stephen Kenford in awb. This is Kent Peterson, KC0 DTY. The NASA's Artemis 2 mission began its long awaited journey to the moon and back on Saturday 17 January with the Rockets rollout onto the launch pad at the Kennedy Space center in Florida. Three of the four astronauts who will be aboard have their amateur radio licenses. Travis Lick N3ILS tells us what's up next.

Speaker A: Was there, but I had to like, really wheel it back because it was always tempting for that to be there.
Speaker B: It was there all the time. Yeah. And unfortunately, you know, seas candy are kind of like potato chips. It's hard to stop at just one.
Speaker A: So anyway.
Speaker B: Hi.
Speaker A: Hi.
Speaker B: Well, hey, thanks very much for being there this morning, Jeff. I appreciate it. I enjoyed hearing some of the adventures of the Fox Hunt yesterday. Look forward to maybe taking part of that again in the future. I was. I did the one in the walk through the park, Fox Hut. That was really fun. I look forward to doing one of those again. That's a lot of fun. So thanks for running the net this morning. I really appreciate it. It's always good. Again, Coffee breaknet is very much a part of my mornings. So thanks for being there. Everybody out there in Coffee Break Net land. Have an amazing day.
Speaker A: Take care of yourselves.
Speaker B: Take care of each other. KB73, clear and listening.
Speaker A: All right, Brad, you have a wonderful and relaxed day. It sounds like you have a plan. KB6LUV, KW6U73. And mark KC8FQV. Good morning and how are you? And out there in the cold, I think. All right. Yep. Morning. Well, the sun's up. The last time I looked at was like about 12 degrees. I don't know what we went down to overnight. The moon was out last night it was pretty bright. I couldn't believe how bright it. But I was up about aisle. I had had to use the restroom at one point. That one got up about 20, I think about 18, 20. Yeah, I got. Had to use that little room down the hallway. When I got up, the light was coming in pretty bright. Yeah. Last night we were traveling west on the road and we seen this rainbow and my sister said, yeah, they were talking about that on tv. They said, what was ice crystals phenomenon? The sun was in the ice crystals. It was a straight, straight up a rainbow straight up in the air. But that was interesting. But then we went to eat and now we're trying to. I have a gallery open in the Chromebook and every time I click on one of the images or one of the things that are there, it takes me to another page. What do you want to do with this? So I gotta figure out what it throws in the gallery. And then when I open it and it says, well, what you want to do with it? And it gives you four things, you know, well, edit a PDF and something. A video. You can watch it as a video. So depending what it is. So I'm working on that. Yeah, I Did do a scan morning. Put a couple paper on the flatbed scanner and scanned on. Saved them to jump drive. Yeah, the copier. Yeah, I have the copier. Save stuff to jump drive. I plugged the jump drive into it. I think I could do a network too. I could save it to a network drive. It's easy to put on a jump drive. Haven't gotten to the other thing, but so nice and sunny out. Oh, yeah. That package that I was waiting for from FedEx, they finally delivered it yesterday. They must have been. I don't know, maybe they just had so much stuff and they put it on the truck and they just were trying to figure out what day they would get to the our. You know, we're way off the road. So they might have been a little worried about coming in. Although beginning of the week, the oil came in and brought oil. So he had no problem. So they said they normally don't have problems, but I think they just had so much. There's so much snow that they were just. Yeah. You know, I look in New York and I heard Bill, Adele.

2026-02-01 16:15:24 UTC 1200.0s · W6GRC TX (147.105 MHz)

Speaker A: Yeah. Jimmy, I have no idea how other places take care of the snow here in California. They don't use salt. They do something else. Usually it's just sand, but it's not very often that we have too many bad days of that kind of stuff up. And even up in the mountains, there's sun that comes around the corner about every few days. So not a big issue there. Other than that, it sounds like you had a good evening with the snow rainbow, that's kind of cool, or at least the moon rainbow, I should say, with the ice crystals. That's kind of neat all the way around and glad you're enjoying that. Yeah, that rainbow was that sunset. The sun was setting and we were traveling west and we could see it. So that one, that was. Yeah, the moon was out last night. It was bright. So well sent back the net. Case up, kv. All right. Well, hey, you have a great day out there. We'll catch you next time and enjoy yourselves. K83VGM, KW6U73. All right. Good morning, Andy, KC9UIR. How are you this morning? I didn't see you pop up right away. Have you checked into the coffee break map before? I did.
Speaker B: It was a long time ago. KC 90 yr, Q, Kilo, Charlie 9, Uniform, India, Romeo. But figured I would get on calling from Wisconsin, which is about like 20 degrees. We've been in the negatives for the last, I don't know, three weeks. But yeah, just wanted to call and check in and see how everybody was doing and appreciate you letting me on the net.
Speaker A: Yeah, I always like hearing how folks are doing in the rest of the country, too. It's such different weather than what we have here in sunny California. Even in Auburn, there's no leaves on the trees really quite, you know, a few things that are green, but the sun comes out, it feels warm. It'll get up to six. It'd be a very nice day.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker B: Again, I appreciate it. This is Andy, KC9UIR and calling you from sunny, sunny Wisconsin and the Midwest. We definitely deserve this winter because it's been, I don't know, the last couple years.
Speaker D: It's.
Speaker B: We haven't had a winter, so we. We definitely deserve this one and 73 to everybody listening in the Net. And I again appreciate it, Casey and I and uir.
Speaker A: All right, andy. Well, thank you for checking into the net. It's always nice to hear folks from wisconsin. So I'll talk to you later. Kc9uir, kw6u73. And good morning, Matt. Ko6imp little birdie told me you were the winner of the Fox Hunt yesterday. Did you have a good time? Well, you might be out and about already doing something, but. Matt, KO6 imp, are you there? Speaker F: Kilo Mike Six Yankee, Kilo Tango Greg in Roseville.
Speaker A: Oh, Greg. Okay, I've got you. KM6YKT. I've got you there as well. Okay, let me start through the in and outs here first. And I think that's going to be most everybody, so we'll get right up to it. Good morning, Larry kosxihj, How are you this morning?
Speaker C: Good morning.
Speaker D: Coffee break, man. I'm feeling. I'm gonna make it short for you, chocolate. I'm one of those strange people that really don't hunt down the sweets. I'll take either chocolate doesn't matter, but I don't particularly have a hankering for it, if that makes sense. Anything sweet, no candies or anything. I never have been like that. Today is gonna be a. I'm gonna do nothing today. I got a doctor's point tomorrow. I'm gonna do nothing today and relax. Other than that. This is gonna be the shortest and best chicken you've ever had.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, I'm sure it'll get a lot more exciting next Sunday. Yeah, we're looking forward to it. I'm sure it'll all go the way you hope it does. And not a chocolate fan.
Speaker D: Okay.
Speaker A: Not a big deal. Other than that it sounds like you're having a good day and well, we'll just go ahead and bid you adieu. Ko6ihjkw6u73
Speaker D: next Sunday. What's going on next Sunday? Anything important? Oh, that's right. Go Hawks 73 All K06ISJ
Speaker A: Good morning, Ron. Ka6uii, how are you up? How are you today?
Speaker C: Good morning K6Uai. Well, the dark chocolate I inadvertently got delivered some little squares of chocolate with caramel and some 70% dark chocolate Walmart, one of my items in somebody else's bag and I got chocolate and rice cake so some of that was usable. But the dark chocolate though is pretty with a good glass of wine and good cup of coffee. So I discovered something might have to
Speaker D: keep doing it on my it's maybe
Speaker C: one one of these little thin wafers from Ghirardelli and that's about it with some coffee when I get to my desk.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's always good stuff when you're enjoying it with coffee. There was another station that was doubling with Ron, who was that? Come again, please.
Speaker D: That was just noise from The Fireside
Speaker A: Network, KK 6am Gotcha. Okay, thank you very much. Yeah, Ron, dark chocolate with coffee, that's a good way to do that. Little snacks. And did you said it accidentally came or you know, and you just took advantage of it? I didn't quite understand that one.
Speaker C: Yeah, I got an order and I started unpacking it and I go, I didn't order this. And I had, I don't know, whatever it was a some bagels or something at the top of a bag and the rest of the bag was somebody else's stuff. So I called Walmart up and they said well either throw it away or keep it, they're not coming back to get it and wait and hear from whoever was missing their stuff and deliver them their stuff. So I guess that worked out. But I get groceries delivered from Walmart so that's the story on it.
Speaker F: Got it.
Speaker A: Well that happens from time to time. I know they will have some things delivered on occasion but mostly I prefer
Speaker C: to go as as far store and
Speaker A: pick out what I want. And sometimes it's because I like to
Speaker D: browse a little bit and just pick
Speaker A: something but it's convenient to have groceries delivered and if you happen to get a little surprise in there, that's great.
Speaker D: Yeah.
Speaker C: Now if I could just get one of the big radio stores to do that and you know, send me my stuff plus somebody else's and tell me just to keep it.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, at least you're honest enough to give them a holler and let them know. Of course they can usually track that stuff down. Well, very good. So enjoy that chocolate and I'm glad you were able to enjoy, you know, have that for free. A nice surprise.
Speaker C: Yeah, well, today's a little bit of projects too, so maybe I'll have some chocolate to get me started. But I bought some $32 for 100ft. I don't know what happened on my measurement but I got about twice as much as I needed. But this stuff is basically a thin PVC pipe with the, with the rest of the coax in it. It is so stiff I can't believe it. Even once it warms up in the sun, it just does not bend. So you know, you can bend it but it's going to have to all be tacked down quite a bit or I'll have loops up in the air. Just running that the antenna out of my office, getting that out into the backyard. But we moved it a little bit farther away than I intended. But I still had lots of coax left over. But I think that stuff's going to go into garbage when I'm done with it for that price. I don't think I need to keep it around and for that kind of quality. But anyway it'll work. That's all I needed. And this is going to be stationary out there. But getting my ultra portable kit set up a little bit too for airplane carry and you know, bagged stuff. I got an Apache case and some other things and hopefully we're going to do a little more travel this year. We'll see what happens.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's nice to get something small and capable in your ultra carry there when you travel. Have a little fun sitting by the water and or whatever it is and enjoying some radio time.
Speaker C: Yeah, well, we had a lot of fun last year driving. We went down to the Hearst Castle area along the beach there a couple of places I made contacts and Europe and Asia from there with a 30 foot wire. So that was pretty interesting. But that kit's heavy even after I took the tuner out of it because I don't need it. And that's going in the other kit, little mat 30. And even with that out of there, I think it weighs about 38 pounds. So that's not an airline item. It would be cool to have that radio. It's a set, but I have an 891 in this kit. Anyway, let you get back to the net. I know there's people waiting for their in and outs and your, your wrist is going to get tired flipping that egg timer.
Speaker A: One of these days I'll hook up a foot switch and a proper mic, but for now that's totally fine. I don't mind at all.
Speaker B: All right, Ron.
Speaker A: Well, have a great day. K6uai kw6u k6u 73 and I'm gonna go ahead and check in with Herbert Ko6elz, how are you this morning and what are you up to?
Speaker E: Hello, this is Herbert Ko6e. I listened I open up the radio a little bit. Question again, sir.
Speaker A: Oh, just how are you today and are you a dark chocolate fan?
Speaker E: Oh, yeah, I'm doing good today, thank you for asking. I'm not a. Or and I drink coffee. I think that's all for today. Just saying hi to everyone.
Speaker A: Thank you again.
Speaker E: And back to you, sir.
Speaker A: All right. Well, hey Herbert, thanks for checking in. Just to let you know some of your transmission is, it's cutting off. It's either on or off for a second or so and so sometimes it's hard to make out everything but I got the sheep gist of it. Thank you for checking into the net this morning and I appreciate you doing that. We'll, we'll talk to you soon. Ko6elzkw6u73. Good morning Anna, Katie3ajn. How are you today and are you a dark chocolate fan?
Speaker G: Good morning Jeff and everyone else on the net this morning. No, I am not a dark chocolate fan but I do love chocolate. Give me milk chocolate any day and I will eat it. Actually I just had a milk chocolate peanut butter candy bar yesterday and that was really good. Not too much going on here. We're still hanging out at home. Tomorrow is going to be our first day. We're going out and been over a week so it's going to be probably an experience but because it's cold still, but it's supposed to get a little warmer and then we're supposed to go into a cold snap again.
Speaker A: Now take a minute to enjoy the warm weather. When it does come, it usually doesn't last but things are moving the right direction so the sun will come out and the flowers will come out soon enough.
Speaker G: If you call 20s warm weather, that's fine. That's what we're going to have everybody. Have a great day and have a good week. KD3AJN
Speaker A: all right, Anna, nice to hear you check in this morning. Katie3ajn73 this is kw6u. Good morning, Greg. Km6ykt. I should have come to you first. It might have been mobile. Are you still there? Good morning, Jeff and the net.
Speaker F: This is KM6YKT, Greg, I am currently on an HT, so I'll just stop there and see if I'm making an end. Okay,
Speaker A: yeah, you're hitting us very nicely. Good all the way around.
Speaker F: That's great to hear. I know some of the recent changes have made a big difference. I'm just on a little Wushan H2, so that's great. Hey, I just had two things for the Net today. One of them is that my daughter's boyfriend, they met competing in the Special Olympics, is coming over today and he wants to take a look at radios. He's very interested in radio and so maybe around 11:30 or noon if he decides he wants to try, we might get on the air and just see if anybody would just say a quick hello. I'm sure it'd be very brief, so I just wanted to put that out there. And then I had one more thing, but I'll let it be drop. So the other thing I was going to mention is I heard on the Net yesterday some people talking about APRs and I know that there's people in the club that have way more experience about APRs than I do, but I just wanted to throw out a couple things. One is that APRS is definitely sending messages, radio to radio, but there is also a store and forward capability that you can use.
Speaker A: And if you do that and you
Speaker F: send it to mail, I think I'm mobile right now, you can send it to a message at the call sign, another message, and then someone can pick it up later when they're online and send a message. And you can put winlink and AP Mail in your status text and when you send out a beacon, it'll come back and send you a message and let you know if you have either WinLink or an AP Mail. So just thought I'd throw that out there. This is KM6 YKT.
Speaker A: That's a pretty cool feature of aprs. I haven't played with it enough to know all the details. I know. Have you built km6lyw's little pi0 version of aprs for an hp?
Speaker F: Yeah, it's fantastic. I am running the Digipi and I love that interface. So I do use that. I also use it, you know, just on my phone with APRS Droid and then also actually in the. In the every other week Zoom meetings. Got interested in the btec.

Speaker A: I think it's the UV Pro and it's got the TNT built in, and so I've been using that as well.
Speaker B: Ah, that's kind of nice to have that TNT built in to make it go. That makes life a little bit easier.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's pretty cool. And it really is a nice radio. I think it was Tom that presented it, and that's where it got interested is also with satellites, there's a new feature. If you're using the phone app, the satellites are going over. It'll automatically adjust the frequency as the satellite passes overhead. So it's got some cool software features. I tend to like to run just the radio without the software, but it's kind of fun when it's out there.
Speaker B: That's a pretty neat feature. So it'll actually make up for the frequency changes a little bit. I didn't know that was even a thing.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's kind of cool. A lot of it is just done with the software updates and so, you know, they're releasing new features all the time. Some of the interface I like. Some of it, you know, could be improved, but seems like they're making changes regularly. So it's kind of a fun radio and it has, you know, you can do the messaging that I just talked about built in. And you can use the app also instead of a purestroid if you want to do messaging through there. But you did start with the Digifi, definitely my favorite. Love that app. So that's a great place for anybody who wants to get involved.
Speaker B: No doubt about it. It's a pretty cool little setup, and it doesn't take a lot of expertise when the software is all written up nicely.
Speaker A: It's great that it's so lightweight, and I've used it too. I haven't done as much on HF as I'd like to. I don't have a great antenn setup, but it's really nice just to have that interface and not be trying to just always connect it up to my PC. I just, you know, can have whatever device I have. I know I'm kind of giving the digipy message, which is out there already, but it's really cool to be able to bring that out in the field. So I've been playing around with that a little bit.
Speaker B: It sure is. Well, for your daughter's boyfriend wanting to check out Ham Radio. Yeah, let's get him on the air. I'm sure people will be out here listening in. Make sure that folks will come back to you on that one. I know it. We have a lot of friendly people that are willing to get some newbies on the air. Yeah, thanks.
Speaker A: I'm sure it would be pretty brief. I think he's going to want to talk a lot but I think he would be excited to actually get to just say a quick hello to somebody. So I appreciate it. So Jeff, with that just on my ht, I'll wrap it up and say good morning. This is KM6YKT73.
Speaker B: All right, Greg, thanks for checking in this morning. Good luck today with. Kw6u73. All right, this kw6u for the coffee break net. Good morning everybody. Let's see who's out there. Make some check ins here. Let me know if you are in. In and out.
Speaker C: Okay.
Speaker B: I6lop in and out.
Speaker C: K6dco good morning j.
Speaker B: All right. Good morning, Dave. K6DCL and good morning, Russ. Ki6lop in and out. Hey, well, what's going on with you these days? Haven't heard you in a while. I've been around. Just all kinds of stuff. We're going to today, right now I'm off to buy a little marketplace find. But this morning, today we're going to head up to Grass Valley, Nevada City and just have a Sunday fun day up there and see what the day brings. Ah, very good. Getting right up, right up the road from you. But Grass Valley, Nevada City can be fun to hang out for a bit. It should be nice and sunny up there today. Oh yeah, it should be beautiful. Maybe we'll hit Empire mine or whatever. But there's, there's always cool stuff to see and it's, it's just beautiful up there. So that's the plan for the day and that's about it. All right, well have fun with the fam and we'll, we'll catch you next time. Thanks for checking in and it was good to chat with you. Ki6lopkw6u73. Good morning, dave. K6dcl how are you this morning?
Speaker C: Okay. Good morning, Jeff. We're doing pretty good here. Lucy's finishing her one of her Biscati's and I've got one more to go and I'll be ahead. Had a good night's sleep last night and for 80, almost 81 years old, that's very important. You just died, quote unquote to have your good night's sleep. Anyway, it was good. I very grateful for that and just feel very warm and comfortable this morning. Yesterday. Well, a couple of days ago I wasn't Feeling good at all for some reasons. But one of the good things that came about is we were in Modesto, and because I had a doctor's appointment and we had time to kill, and all of a sudden, it dawned on me. I'd been wanting to get rid of a carrier that I had in the back of Honda crv. And it was a pain in the rear end. Very hard to get into the rear of the. The vehicle. I had to lower the carrier and very heavy. Very, very, very heavy. And anyway, so I've been wanting to get rid of it. And I said, hey, I'm going to look up for metal salvages. And I didn't. Voila. There was one, and it was right near me. And I drove over there, rode in. I said, I want to get rid of that heavy carrier on the back. Guy goes, okay. And I said, the pin is unlocked, so you can just take the pin out and there you go. But you're going to need somebody else to help you pull that off. It's like, horrible. It's heavy. He looks at me and smiles and said, I'll take care of it. I looked at him and I watched him wiggle it off to the ground, Lifted it up by himself and carried it into the building where they waited. Gave me $3.50. I didn't care. I wasn't even looking for money. I was just looking to get rid of it. So I got rid of it. It was fantastic. I can get into the back of my vehicle anytime I want. I actually went and got the car. 5, 4, 8, 0, 25th timeout.

Speaker B: if you like dark chocolate.
Speaker A: Let me know if you are in n out.
Speaker B: Maybe I'll check in before you end up K63
Speaker A: Dave, I got you there
Speaker C: on that last little bit.
Speaker A: So you. You were. You disappeared for a while and I couldn't raise you so. So went ahead and moved on down the line. My apologies for that. We'll catch you next. KW6U for the coffee break net who's out there?
Speaker D: Kilo November 6th whiskey Quebec uniform K6W keel.
Speaker C: How are you my friend? Good morning to you and everyone on the net.
Speaker B: KO6th good morning.
Speaker A: All right. Good morning Greg. Ko6th Good morning Peter. Katie6qw I gotta get your last bit at the call sign. I knew it was you doubling with Dan So I missed KN6WQ. Let's see. Let me get Peter back in here again. I'm just Q ZH
Speaker C: hi, Katie's excuse H Good morning everybody. I think some people are before me so I'm gonna yield. You just call me in the right order. Katie's excuse and it.
Speaker A: Well, you and Dan were perfectly on top of each other. But since Dan the man's usually a pretty busy guy. Let's go ahead and take Dan first. Good morning Dan. K&6WQ.
Speaker D: Good morning Jeff and Annette. This is K&6WQ. Still having some radio issues in my truck and beeping at me now I'm trying to key up. I'm not sure what the hell is going on with that anytone578 uh, replacement. I'm running it with the BT01, you know, remote head thing. So anyway, just didn't. I'm actually at a job already this morning. I usually don't start working till around 9:30 or so but this morning I had to get started a little earlier. More work than I then the daylight will let me have. So anyway, that's all I got. Peter, Good morning. And we're still working on the ac. Failed again last night. Not sure what's going on. We're going to have to call the manufacturer again. This is KN6WQ.
Speaker A: All right, Dan. Well, hey, the busy Guy will keep busy. And good luck getting everything done today. King@6wqukW6u73 and now, Peter, we're going to come back to you. KD6QZH Good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning, my friend. Good morning, Dan. And good morning everybody on the net. You know Dan, he's always so busy having the man with the fan. Anyway, hope you and your family is okay, Dan. And let's see, kind of a quiet weekend. I rested yesterday. I kind of overdid it last week. And today I'm just gonna go to church, have lunch with a friend and then Cassia want some work to do. Been pretty busy trying to get a lot of things done, so I'll pass it back. Katie, excuse Eddie.
Speaker A: Well, it feels good to be productive and get things done. You gotta make sure that you take care of yourself so that you can enjoy your life. But you had a quiet week. It sounds like. It sounds like you're gonna have a good day at church and visiting with folks. So along with being productive. So good for you,
Speaker C: Dan. I hadn't had TV for a couple of days because my room. This is going to sound like a first world problem. I know, but my remote for my TV and stuff working. And it's a modified system, so I had to order a new one. So that's taken care of. So I'm happy about that. And I know it's a first world problem, so I think I'll stop there.
Speaker A: Katie's excuse at it's amazing how annoying those first world problems can be. You just expect it to work and when it fails, well. Well, you have a good day, Peter, and enjoy yourself and don't stress about first world problems.
Speaker C: Yeah, it wouldn't have been a big deal that I can't get up and work it manually. Katie, back to you.
Speaker A: All right, Peter, have a great day. Enjoy your time out there getting going to church and so forth. And good luck on getting your first world problem solved. Katie6qzhkw6u73. Good morning, Greg Ko6th did you do the Fox Hunt yesterday?
Speaker B: Good morning, Jeff. Good morning everyone. Greg K06th no, I did not do the Fox Hunt yesterday. Had breakfast with the group that was
Speaker C: a lot of fun.
Speaker B: Great breakfast at Mel's. But our kids were came into town. One's from Monterey up into Lincoln. So did a few little chores around in the morning and after breakfast then went down to Lincoln and we had a wonderful day. Just kind of hung out and had a dinner that couldn't be beat with chocolate, by the way. Dessert was a chocolate cheesecake that one of our daughters found on Pinterest. I think was the source but second time we've had it. I think it was last year we had the first try of it and it is the most indescribable cheesecake. Chocolate layers, chocolate crust, just chocolate. Death by chocolate and cheesecake and it just wonderful. So answers that question. Yes, definitely chocolate. The super sweet one. Don't need that but don't need the bitter. Super bitter either.
Speaker A: So it's not.
Speaker B: Anything in between is fine.
Speaker C: And this one was.
Speaker B: This one had had some dark chocolate and some light chocolate in it as well combination. So it was good but yeah, yay chocolate and what else going on today is a normal day of chores and we just had the kids up here so probably not going to do a chat today, I don't know. And yeah added to that. So anyway, Back to you Jeff Ko6th
Speaker A: that chocolate cheesecake you're describing sounds wonderful. I'm a big fan of cheesecake. It's my favorite dessert and you might as well throw some chocolate in there for fun.
Speaker C: That's just.
Speaker B: That sounds wonderful.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker B: Anything with chocolate. Greg's comment YKT about aprs. There's yes, there's a lot of aprs support out there, quite the infrastructure, very mature. Gateways to both cell, SMS messaging and email and I think both those services are still up. There's also this one I'm not sure about. There was a service that you send a message, just a matter of the text to the name of the satellite that you want to get a pass prediction for and the little robot answers back with the next. You know, you do a beacon first the system knows where you are and then you do all you have. Send a message to ISS and you'll get back the next time, the time of the next pass the that server. The person who put it up by the silent key, I think his son has taken it over but I'm not sure about the status of that one. But anyway the point of all this was that we did a presentation some years ago on our APRs on APRs and it's on our YouTube channel. So look back, I don't know, good six, eight years, something like that on the channel and you'll see an APRS, both a presentation and a demo. K06th
Speaker A: yeah, we've had a couple over the years of the APRs and so yeah, but I forget that. Well our rw6ek.org YouTube page is pretty extensive on the talks that we've Had. And thanks to you for putting that together and keeping it maintained. It's a great resource.
Speaker B: Well, that's the idea. I don't come up with this stuff. It is all the people that present
Speaker A: that are the real heroes on this
Speaker B: creating the content that we put up on the channel. It is intended to be a resource for all hams. Anybody interested in the hobby in terms of what we do and how it's done and all that's a varied hobby that we have. A hundred and, I don't know, hundred dozen, something like that. YouTube videos up on YouTube on the channel. SFARC, W6CK or W6CK? SFARC. One of those. The call signs are in there somewhere. Do a search for that or you can get to it from our website. W6ck.org will take you to the media tab over on the right that has
Speaker A: the
Speaker B: link to the YouTube channel. And I think you can search for them. I'm not sure what the interface is, but yeah, and what else is going on. And yesterday I had a query.
Speaker A: There was
Speaker B: a pass to the ISS that was a school contact over on the east coast. And we got a copy of the questions ahead of time. And one of the questions I wanted to hear the answer to the question was from one of the students was what would you like to do on the space station that you're not allowed to do? And there was a fade out on the answer. I didn't Hear the answer. Patrick.N2DYI found a recording of the path from someone who was in the footprint. And the answer to that question is take a shower. Which is true. You can't just douse yourself. They have people bathed up there. But it's more of a wet towel kind of damp towel sort of thing. You can't just stand under a pouring
Speaker A: waterfall because water doesn't fall. So.
Speaker B: Yeah, that makes sense. Anyway, Back to that Ko6th
Speaker A: sounds so simple, huh? Being able to take a shower. Yeah, the spit bath or just a wash rag bath. It's. Yeah, it works but you know, never quite as nice as a nice hot shower. So I'm sure that's what they enjoy the most when they get back. Well, thanks for checking in the net. Great information on our web page. You can, you can find it on w6k.org like you mentioned. I went over there while you were talking. You can't really search our list that we have, but once you're in the YouTube page you can search W60K, whatever history, so you'll be able to see it. Thanks for checking into the net this morning and thanks for keeping all the web presence up. And I mean the YouTube page is up and running.
Speaker B: Appreciate it.
Speaker A: Ko68kw6u73 73 Jeff and thanks for doing the net today.
Speaker B: Appreciate the everything that you're doing for the club. KO 6873
Speaker A: all right, good morning, this is the Coffee Breaknet. I'm going to take a moment to run down our usual announcements that we have about this time of the morning. We have nets almost every day of the week. This evening will be some sort of Placer county aries exercise. At 7:30 you can look at Placer county areas. If you're interested in Placer county areas, go to the webpage. You can just do a quick Google search and it'll put you to a great resource of information for all things emergency services in the area. Fantastic links to different webpages and what you can do to keep yourself prepared for any kind of kind of emergency. So they do have that exercise every Sunday evening 7:30 and it could vary quite a bit as to what that might be. Every Monday we have the All Nodes net. This is an Elmer net for all things nodes. We host it at 6pm Pacific time so the East Coasters can join us and everybody across the country. So being a nationwide net, you'll get to hear all kinds of potential problems and solutions for things that you're dealing with on your node. It's on W60K2 meter repeater and all Starlink 51018 every Monday 6pm The Elmer net is every first and third Wednesday 7:30pm on W6CK2 meter repeater hosted by Eric W6EMR. If you're in the area, go ahead and well, you can even listen in on the nodes if you like. But you know, listening into the Elmer and and participating if you have an issue is one of the best things one can do. The brain Trust that is W6ek's brain trust of the ELMER net is fantastic. To learn things, check in, have a Problem solved. Every first and third Wednesday 7:30pm on the repeater there is what I like to call an alt. Go to the Elmer net that is in the shack every second and four fourth Wednesday 7:30pm on Club Zoom Room. So you can get to it by going to w6ck.org and hit the zoom button on first, second and fourth Wednesdays. Second and fourth Wednesdays for in the Shack. Every Thursday is the weekly W60K 2 meter net. 7:30pm you'll get some officer reports Arrow News, a satellite report, and a mystery question which makes it all fun. This is a net where you should check in anywhere that you can. I've been out walking the dog and realized I couldn't check into the net because I didn't have the peel tone set. That happens sometimes. That's why you check in from all of your radios whenever you can. Thursday net 7:30pm Pacific Time and enjoy that evening. There is also something going on on Fridays. On occasion it's every first and third Fridays. It is the Friday night trivia 7pm Hosted by Don KG6FCZ and Simone K6DXN. They have a good time posting out some trivia. It just keeps Friday nights on the Repeater Live and everyone has fun. Our next club meeting is February 13th 7:30pm at a new location. Come to our we're having an open house so come check it out. It's at the It's a brand new facility, Placer County Health and Human Services Conference center in auburn. It's a DeWitt Center. Easy access from Bell Road or from I80 or 49. Beautiful facility, great audio, video system and secure parking. So you'll have a It'll be a nice meeting. No more cold or hot temperatures. No more echoes. When it comes to the meeting itself, it should be a very nice venue. So if you can't make it in person, join us on Zoom. I bet it's a better experience. We might be learning some things, but as it is, it's better to come in person whenever you can and listen into the talks. We've also been working on a refined schedule to get folks out of there. Much less time than usual, so the meetings won't be nearly as long. So February 13th 7.30pm at the new location. Go to w6uk.org for the map and directions. The last Saturday of every month is the Cold Club Breakfast. This is the next one's going to be at the end of February. It'll be at Merrill's on Highway 49. Information will be on w6ck.org we'll also have a fox hunt next month as well following the club breakfast and that'll be hosted by. Well great. KC6essle is a great resource to check in with. It'll be a different fox tender next month and if you are interested in fox fox hunting. If you want to be a tender, you can get in touch with us and we'll put you in place. Fox hunting is a lot of fun people. Have a blast and it's a great gathering. The extra license. Classes are actually have just started Tuesday 7 to 9pm on the club Zoo room. They're in person labs go to and digital. This is the class series that we put on. Orion and Anders put on are absolutely fantastic. You learn a lot about ham radio. So when you are able to join the class, if you're ready to upgrade and you think you want to take the instruction, I would recommend it. If you can do it, it's fantastic time. Take a look at the W6ek calendar for future classes. The next class will be a tech class so somebody brand new getting them through that class is a lot of fun. General class is typically in the summer and then another tech class in the fall. These are weeks and they get your hands on. Now mark your calendars. The Loomis Ham fest is Saturday, March 28, 7am Loomis Ham Fest is the first and best ham fest in all of Northern California. But not all of California. It's fantastic at a beautiful location in Loomis at the Loomis train station. And it's very convenient to i80. It goes right by just about a block or so away now.

The more folks that are there, the more fun you have, the more you get to go visit and see other things. We like seeing everybody that come to our HEM Fest, everybody from really all over the place come to it. We have folks that come in from out of state just to come to our ham fest. So we love it. Speaker A: Granite Bay BE Group has a Saturday, February 14, 9am at Raley's event center on Douglas and Auburn, Fulton and the Folsom VE team is meeting Thursday. Let's see, it's usually like the third Thursday so it'll be in February. 6pm in Folsom, California. Go to VE exam. I mean go to hamstudy.org to book a session and you can get the schedules and locations there. All right, this is the Coffee Breaknet. A little bit after 9 o'.
Speaker B: Clock.
Speaker A: Let's take some check ins. Who is out there who would like to tell me about their day? This is kw6u. Let me know if you are in, in and out.
Speaker B: Good morning Jeff. KB6SSN. Good morning jeff.
Speaker C: Kd6cwu george cameron.
Speaker A: Alrighty. Well hey, the George I think KD6 Charlie Whiskey uniform, is that correct?
Speaker C: That's correct, Jeff.
Speaker A: All right, got you there and then Good morning Tom. KB6SSN how are you this morning?
Speaker B: Well, I'm having a small relapse of my cold, but other than that everything's doing just fine. It's a beautiful sunny morning out here today and I'm enjoying it. I stopped by a store to pick up some things and realized it's Sunday. They don't open for another hour. So looks like I'll be sitting here reading for an hour. You know how that goes. And yeah, this upcoming week, oh, let's see, probably Wednesday or so, I'll be dragging the big Henry amplifier out to Larry's there to hook it up and get it all tested and up and running and we'll have some fun with that. So unlike the wonderfully produced videos by Greg and Brian and all these people who know what they're doing, Larry and I don't have a clue. So our videos don't come out looking anywhere near as nice or as polished or as anything that these others do. But if you have some time to kill that you will never get back, you might want to go to our YouTube page, Confederate Sun 1, and take a look at some of the radios we've been working on there. But yeah, don't expect anything Cecil B. DeMille. We ain't.
Speaker A: It's all in the post recording, editing, I guess. I don't know. But hey, you know what? If it's interesting content, have fun.
Speaker B: It's.
Speaker A: You guys are rebuilding things and some old gear, ham radio gear. So that could be a lot of fun.
Speaker B: Well, Larry and I are getting a great deal of satisfaction from it. And yeah, it's. It's an awful lot of fun. And all we basically do is when we get the unit up and running, we sit there and take a 60 second or, you know, 65 second video of it sitting there receiving all the whole debt and then we post that up on YouTube. It's really not that big a deal, but the fact is that we do it all in one take, in one shot with no editing. We have no tripods, no nothing. It's all handheld. On a phone, it's as bad as you can possibly make it. But yet we have thousands of hits and hundreds of followers. So I don't know. Apparently people like bad
Speaker A: comments. Go ahead, comments. Wax E Mobile. I have watched their videos and they are superb. Yeah, maybe I don't care about the editing. I just love watching what they're doing with those radios and they do a great job.
Speaker B: So one of those subscribers is right here on the radio. Wait.
Speaker A: Well, Tom, it seems that. It seems that content trumps editing.
Speaker B: You have no idea how happy that makes me, Jeff. And thank you for the kind words, Jerry. I do appreciate that. Yeah, you know, I have no experience in video whatsoever. You know, we've got fellows on here that probably some ladies as well that have, you know, more skill in their little finger than I do in my entire body with that particular type of media. But the fact is is that it's something I find interesting. And, you know, I don't really post them for other people to look at. I want them to. And it's certainly not. We're not content providers on YouTube or anything like that. So, yeah, we're not going that route. But the fact is, is that I enjoy watching them because all the radios are over at Larry's place and not with me. So, you know, Larry could just turn around and look at the darn thing. I have to, until I get a place to live, live vicariously through my videos.
Speaker A: So there you go.
Speaker B: So if I. If I'm missing my Drake TR7, I just bring up the video and watch it for a minute.
Speaker C: Okay? Okay.
Speaker B: Now I feel better again.
Speaker A: I bet people like it because it's something interesting. These old radios and then to take them apart and watch a repair process or something of the like, if that's what you're doing. I haven't actually watched them yet, so I'm gonna have to go take a peek and see what it is. But I think I've heard you talk about that before. And, you know, people learn something, they're going to enjoy it. There was a station there that's trying to check in. Come again, please.
Speaker D: Roger. Second comment. Whiskey, Romeo, Kilo, Juliet. What was that site, please?
Speaker A: Well, I think Tom was Talking about the YouTube site Confederate Sun 1 and the number one, Confederate sun number one all together, one word and some interesting videos of old radios or just other newer ones talking about this or that. But let me get your call sign one more time. You're coming in very weak. I apologize. But come again, please, on your call sign, nice and slow.
Speaker D: Roger, Roger. Whiskey Alpha 2, Romeo, Kilo Juliet, Eric and Roseville, Waqrkj. I'll copy.
Speaker A: Eric, I've got you in the log here. So WA2RKJ, thank you for your comment and your question. If you want to talk chat some more, I'll put you down here to come back to you.
Speaker D: Just a side note, for that gentleman working on old radios, I have a storage unit full of older equipment, parking pieces, pest equipment. A lot of goodies for those builders. I can leave my phone number. I'm trying to empty out this unit next week or so. Over.
Speaker A: Tom, that may be directed to you.
Speaker B: I can barely hear him, Jeff. I can't make out what he's saying.
Speaker A: He said he's got some old radios that he'd be happy to chat with you about. I don't know what the exact content that would be, but is Any one of you good on qrz. Can you make that communication that way?
Speaker B: Yes, I am good on qrz.com. my email address there is valid and yeah, no trouble. If you've got something that you think is interesting, I'd be more than happy to hear about it. And if it fits into our program, yeah, we'll talk.
Speaker A: All right, Eric, WA2RKJ, you can figure out how to communicate with Tom. KB6SSN, Kilo Bravo 6 Sierra, Sierra November on the QRZ.
Speaker D: Roger, good copy. Back to the net. I'll contact Tom via qrz.
Speaker A: All right, good. Eric, thanks for your comment. I'm sure Tom will be happy to chat with you. WA2RKJ, KW6273. And then Tom, back to you.
Speaker B: Well, it sounds like somebody's keying down there, but I know I can get over them because I'm close to the receiver here. Yeah. The next project we're working on, as it turns out, one of the speakers that I purchased very inexpensively by the way, turned out to be counterfeit. A counterfeit Colin speaker. And it's going to require a video where Larry and I are actually in the video discussing the speaker. So I got us some lab coats and a little tripod to hold the phone so we can stand there and explain why this speaker is a. It's a whole new foray into a whole new area of video that we haven't done before. Up until now, the radios have been the stars of the show and they will continue to be. And the speaker will be the star of the show on this particular one. But yeah, it looks like a Collins speaker, but it's not
Speaker A: interesting. So a counterfeit call in speaker. You know, I suppose it was at the time. The successful company and folks are going to try and make counterfeits of it. But I bet the performance would be different.
Speaker B: Well, it doesn't perform poorly. It just doesn't perform like a collin speaker is supposed to. Yeah, the first thing that I noticed was there was too many screws in the front of it. I thought, well, that seems unusual. There's never eight screws on the front of a column speaker. And then Larry noticed that the emblem was crooked. Now those emblems are pinned. They're not glued. So, yeah, that means that they just found the holes in the grille to finish. And even though it was at a slight angle, they just let it fly. But the real clincher was when we turned it around, took a look in the back of the thing and a very high end driver. But it's not a Collins driver by any means. It is a Radio Shack coaxial speaker meant for a car stereo system. Now the darn thing sounds really good, but it's only, it's supposed to be a 4 ohm speaker. It's an 8 ohm speaker. So you don't get quite the audio output of it. But yeah, even the box, the cabinet is of modern manufacturer. So yeah, it looks just like a Collins speaker, but it's kind of like one of those phony Rolexes, you know, a little crooked, you know.
Speaker A: How funny. Well, that's an interesting find. No doubt about it. I wonder how they sold it to begin with. But it'll be interesting to go through that video. I think that would be good for folks that are out there looking for genuine Collins gear. You could easily get duped at some places.
Speaker B: Well, I did not pay genuine Collins prices for the speaker. That should have been the first red flag. It was very inexpensive. As a matter of fact, I just needed a speaker, a matching speaker for the radio. So it's like, oh my gosh, that's so cheap. Yeah, I'll buy that. And now I know why it looks great. If I didn't point it out to you, you'd probably never know, to be honest with you. But we also have an authentic Collins speaker that we hooked up and boy, does that sound good. I mean, yeah, they use some very, very high end drivers for those speaker cabinets back then.
Speaker A: Well, it'll be nice to see the ultimate video with that, you know, how you know that it's a counterfeit and how it compares. Well, anyway, that sounds like you guys got some fun coming up.
Speaker B: We do indeed. And it's, it's, you know, somebody compared it to the. Or what was the Muppets. The Beaker was the assistant and the scientist and Beaker. Yeah, somebody compared us to that. And I said it's more along the lines of, you know, I don't know, I don't know, a panda and Shrek. But in any case, we're going to have some fun with it. And that's the important thing. If you're having fun in ham radio, you're doing it right.
Speaker A: So There you go.
Speaker B: KB6SSN have a great morning, Jeff. Hopefully we killed enough time for you here to get some interest going here to fill your last hour. And I'll bid you 7.3kb6ssn
Speaker A: all right, Tom, thanks for checking into the net this morning and all the info. Appreciate it. K86SSN KW6U73. And Good morning, George. KD6CWU. Haven't heard you in a while. How are you today and what's going on with you lately?
Speaker C: Good morning, Tom.
Speaker A: KD6CWU.
Speaker C: Well, I had an interesting morning yesterday with the Fox Hunt. That was the foot power Fox Hunt. Most hidden fox on the planet. I think only about half of us found it.
Speaker A: Oh, so they made it challenging for you. That's fantastic. And frustrating. No doubt about. Does take a little bit of skill to find some of those foxes.
Speaker C: Yeah, it was really low power and I don't think driving the perimeter with a base antenna, there was nothing, I mean absolutely nothing hurt. So it was really challenging and fun. I always enjoy the breakfast and the fox hunt.
Speaker A: Yeah, I like to start out with my yagi, but as I get closer, I take it off. I find the yagi to be too much when it's high power, when. When it's low power, it's a challenge they can hide from you.
Speaker D: Yeah, other than that, just sitting here
Speaker C: editing one of my many RT system software packages. I need to cut the alphas down to fit my latest radio.
Speaker A: Alright, well that sounds like fun. You got a busy morning scheduled out for you to kind of make things better.
Speaker B: Better,
Speaker D: yeah.
Speaker C: Appreciate it. I'm not a very frequent checker inner the new term I coined yesterday, but I'll try and be a little bit better. And you have A Good morning.
Speaker A: KD6CWU. Well, we certainly like it when folks check in. It's nice to hear you. Hadn't heard you in a while and well, you popped up on the net here, so very good. Glad you had fun yesterday. Sorry you didn't find the fox, but did you make your way to Burgers and Cream before I send you off?
Speaker C: Actually, I did find the fox. I was the fourth person to find it and I did go to Burgers and Cream. Yes, it was a delicious soft serve
Speaker B: where everyone else was having shakes.
Speaker A: I'm sorry, I thought I understood you missed finding the fox, but I'm glad you found it. Very good. And you got the prize which is going to Burgers and Cream and having a nice shake. Have a great day, George. Thanks for checking into the net. Glad you had fun. Katie6cwukw6u73. Katie6cwu. All right, let's see. Jerry. I don't know, you're probably mobily gone here. The WA60, are you still there? Well, I think he probably had it on. Jerry, if you. You're on your way to your job, so have a great day. Jerry, WA60KW6273 all right this is KW6U for the coffee breaknet taking more check ins but please let me know if you are and in and out kic9muf
Speaker C: mobile in and out.
Speaker B: All right we're going to try one
Speaker A: more time from the anytone this is KN Tix WQ for a quick recheck
Speaker B: Alpha, India 6 uniform Sierra Brian.
Speaker A: But Dan's got a quick recheck for a purpose do you mind if I take him first and you doubled with
Speaker B: a couple other check ins there by the way
Speaker A: all right let's go ahead and see who else is checking in and then we'll get everybody on the list here who's trying to check in that I doubled over
Speaker B: Ki6rt from the
Speaker C: RF black hole of Granite Bay.
Speaker A: John, I've got you there ki6rt is anyone else there that would like to check in?
Speaker C: November 6th Delta tango.
Speaker A: Good morning Rick N6DT got you there let's see anyone else that I missed? All right, very quickly I'll run through.

W6 rhc repeater check 2.

2026-02-01 17:25:39 UTC 1200.0s · W6GRC TX (147.105 MHz)

Speaker A: And if it got missed, we'll figure it out. N6DT I've got you, KI6RT. John, I've got you, AI6US. Brian, Dan, KN6WQU for a quick recheck. And Daniel, N9MUF. Daniel, do you mind if I take Dan K and 6WQ first here?
Speaker B: Not at all.
Speaker C: Go for it.
Speaker B: N9MUF.
Speaker A: All right, Dan, I got you down for a quick recheck. Come on in, please.
Speaker D: Roger that. Thank you, Jeff. KJ5 Golf Whiskey. November was coming in on the trail of that.
Speaker A: By the way, this is Kan6wku.
Speaker D: So I was, I was trying to check in during the whole APRS chat and talk. I believe I was trying to see if there's a, like a website or something that I could, I could, you know, kind of read on and see all these extra features and stuff like that that, you know, it could do because I am interested in those kinds of things. But I couldn't key up on my radio in time. Then I caught, I got over on All Star and then I was in the job and I couldn't really talk about it. So I'm available now. But I'm not sure if anybody still knows that or not. But you can go on down the list. This can be an after the net kind of thing, Jeff, if you'd like.
Speaker C: It's a.
Speaker A: What, what radio? What, what were you talking about specifically? I might have the note.
Speaker D: So it was, it was more talking about basically store and forward APRs messages and something about WinLink in your beacon. We'll send to your WinLink email, something
Speaker A: like that, if you have message awaiting
Speaker D: or something like that, that kind of stuff.
Speaker A: Okay, that was by Greg Km6Ykt talking about some features of APRs and we've talked a little bit about. But he is going to be on the repeater probably around 11 o' clock or so. His girlfriend, his daughter's boyfriend was going to try and get him on the air for a little bit. So they'll be checking into the, to the repeater later on.
Speaker D: All right, roger that. I'll probably see if I can't get them in. This is KN6WQ. Thanks for the quick recheck, everybody.
Speaker C: Have a great day.
Speaker A: All right, Dan, thanks for the recheck at KN6WQ, KW6Q73. And I'll go ahead and go up to the top here with Daniel. N9 MUF. How are you this morning?
Speaker B: I am doing wonderful. We've got an absolutely summer like 26 degrees and sunshine. Good Morning at church and a couple of errands on the way home, so.
Speaker C: Good.
Speaker A: Sounds like a good day. Did you play today at the.
Speaker E: Were you the musical lead there?
Speaker B: I was one of nine this morning. Our organist retired several years ago and it takes nine of us to replace him. An amazing person, an amazing man, but he just absolutely selfish. He quit so he could go down, retire to Baltimore to closer to his grandkids. And I just don't know how that's acceptable.
Speaker A: I think I may have a cue, a clue.
Speaker E: Understood.
Speaker A: Well, at least there's nine of you playing together and hopefully you had fun.
Speaker C: I did.
Speaker B: It's a good crew and the music leader knows how to bring the best out of everybody and encourage us to keep pushing ourselves quick in and out. So I'll say 73 to you. N9 MUF.
Speaker A: All right, Daniel, thanks for checking into the net. Glad you had a good day. N9mufkw6u73. And Brian AI6us, you're actually next on the list, but John is pretty flighty sometimes. He's on the go. Do you mind if I take him first? No.
Speaker E: And let him know he's 95% into the repeater. So it's just bad timing on his part to get caught in kerfuffles. I'm standing by. AI6US.
Speaker A: Well, John, KI6RT, you are up. And it sounds like I am too quick on the key that you kept getting stepped on, so. Ki6rt, good morning.
Speaker C: Hey, good morning, Jeff and everyone. Hey, thanks for picking me up this morning. I think I've perfected the art of checking in and creating a kerb left hole. I might even have to reach out to Greg Ko6th and suggest it as one of the club meeting presentations.
Speaker A: How to cause a kerfuffle effectively. I tend to do that. Quite. You know, I get at that myself.
Speaker C: So.
Speaker A: It's not your fault. It is what it is. But hey, glad you're able to check in.
Speaker C: Yeah, I am too. Thanks for picking me up. In fact, it should probably be titled the Opposite of Scott's presentation, Poor Net Etiquette. Hi.
Speaker B: Hi.
Speaker A: Well, and from that we can learn what proper net etiquette is. Maybe that's the main goal.
Speaker C: Yes, indeed. Yes, indeed. I hear Brian coming up. So I'm kind of curious how winter Field Day went. I'm just getting back from Hawaii and, you know, it's nice getting back to cool, low humidity environments again, but it sure was nice out there.
Speaker A: Where did you go in Hawaii this time?
Speaker C: I went to the Kona site, which is. Yeah, it's a nice place to visit after not being there for a year or two.
Speaker A: I have not made my way over to Big island yet. It's on the list we have. Our son in law is working in Kauai at the moment and so we
Speaker E: visited him and we're going to go
Speaker A: back in March for a week and take my mom and my wife's mom. So we'll take the cause there. Our daughter's going to be there as well with all the kids. And so it'll be a big family event.
Speaker C: Hey, that sounds absolutely perfect. Yeah, Kauai is one of my favorite places, but it's one of the forbidden islands Michelle doesn't want to go back to for she's been there too many times. Anyhow, the exciting thing about the trip was we landed as the volcano was doing its thing. We were trying to get there, but the park was closed. But we went there the day after and it was still pretty amazing. Had some videos of other visitors that were actually videotaping live the eruption. But even when we were there the next day, you could feel the particles in the air and all the pumice that was falling on the roof in cars. Pretty amazing events.
Speaker A: Yeah, I've never been that close to a volcano to know what it's like. I've got some trepidation about getting too close to one.
Speaker E: You and me both, Jeff.
Speaker C: When people are telling us that we're actually there during the volcano, they said the next day when they blew their nose, there's blood coming out, which is not good. Which means I can't imagine what they did to their lungs.
Speaker A: There's nothing like inhaling some volcanic glass to. Yeah, it's a little bit like diatomaceous earth for worms.
Speaker C: Yes, indeed. Anyhow, with that, I will keep it short. I'm not in the car today, so I'm at home qth. So I'm not going to disappear like I normally do. But thanks for running the net. I'm going to try to look forward to making Hamfest. Haven't been able to do so last couple years, but it would be nice to be able to join that event. Anyways, thanks for running it. 73 to 1. Have a great day. Ki6rt. Back to you guys.
Speaker A: All right, well, you know the date March 28th. Love to see you at Amfest. You got to get there nice and early though, to get all the good deals. Have a great day. John.Ki6RTkw6u73. All right, good morning, brian. Ai6us. I heard the fox hunt was successful yesterday.
Speaker E: Hey, good morning. Yes, indeed. Fox Hunt was a lot of fun yesterday. And yeah, it was 500 milliwatt transmitter, my transmitter that I loaned to Graydon and he kept the stubby antenna on it. So was a bit of a challenge. I think we just found it because we just started to do a grid search with the truck. Just driving, you know, around different areas of Auburn, seeing where we could hear it. And there was only like about a four block area that we actually could hear it. And so then we moved in and quickly found it. I went out with K06 imp matt. So matt and I tracked it down. Took us about 20 minutes to do it. But, you know, really it was just a lot of it was just driving a grid system in the truck and looking for the signal. It definitely could not be heard from any of the high points that you normally would hear a fox, you know, hidden transmitter from. So it was a bit of a different Fox Hunt challenge.
Speaker C: But yeah,
Speaker E: Matt won first place. So he got his choice of treats at Burger and Cream and I think he really enjoyed it. And yeah, a little bit of crowing here. We won.
Speaker C: We won. We won. Wow.
Speaker A: So that, that, that was tricky. 500 milliwatts with a stubby. You had to drive a grid in
Speaker E: Auburn of all places.
Speaker A: That's kind of not that simple to do. The roads don't follow a grid pattern, but you have to make one up.
Speaker E: No, absolutely. And then I've come onto a clue that a lot of people say, well, I. One clue that I use for finding the fox is see where Brian's truck is parked. So Matt and I parked the truck about two blocks away. Graydon actually hit the Fox up at the golf course up by the airport right off of Newport Airport Road. And so after we found it, we parked the truck across the way in those hiking trails. And yes, we watched three people pull in there, pull out their antennas and start going into the hiking trails.
Speaker A: Oh, how funny.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker A: The clue is where Brian's truck is at. No doubt. Yep. You're going to have to drive something different one day and, you know, bring the truck, but bring a second vehicle to go hide, run around town in.
Speaker E: That's funny. Let's see. For John's benefit. Yes, Last weekend was winter field day, and in fact, seven days ago at this moment, we were going feverishly ahead on making our contact. So, yeah, the team did. Oh, wanted a big, big shout out to Devin and Trevor who got the ISS Passover.
Speaker B: And.
Speaker E: And so we got the multiplier for that. And John and Derek copied the bulletin and we got 10 out of the 12 bands activated. And so that was kind of the. And John, no one was heard on 900 and 1200 megahertz. So yeah, we were just two bands short of doing a 12 band sweep. But I think it just means next year we need to plan a little bit more in advance and just make sure that we really, you know, let people know that we will be out there monitoring 900 and 1200. So get on those radios. Other than that, we did about 1100 voice contacts, about 800 CW contacts and the weather other than the wind was fantastic.
Speaker A: Well, very good performance. If you got 10 out of 12 vans, that's pretty cool. So at least. And it is wintertime, so you know, maybe not quite as windy and cold as places out in the middle of Nebraska. I got to give some kudos to those. But it's still difficult to be out there hanging out in the cold doing that.
Speaker E: Well this year, yeah, we had about 5:30am Saturday morning before the event start. We just got hit by, oh, just some 45 plus mile an hour wind and gust, possibly even higher. And it leaned a couple of the antennas over, including the pneumatic hex beam. Took it over probably 10 degree list and yeah, the canopy tent. Had we not done something? I just got tired of being cold and being out in canopies. So this year we wrapped the canopy with shrink wrap that you use on pallet wrap. Pallet wrap, plastic. And we wrapped that and unfortunately
Speaker C: we
Speaker E: didn't reinforce that with the ghetto duct tape. So we came out after that big windstorm and had a little reassembly to do on the plastic. But we got that all put together and then we every three or four feet we put a vertical piece of daff tape or duct tape from the top of the canopy to the bottom over this plastic to keep the layers of plastic together. Looked a little ghetto, I gotta say, but it was the warmest canopy we've ever been in. It just that plastic trapped the heat inside of it, kept the wind from blowing through the corners and underneath it actually, I don't care how it looked, it was warm.
Speaker A: Well, that and it may have let a little more light into the area. I don't know if that was helpful or not, but I'd like to see some pictures of that. You had to have with those winds needed to anchor down the canopy really well also.
Speaker E: Yeah, no, we put the walls on the, on the canopies like we always do. But the walls always, you know, the corners bleed and then air comes underneath the walls. And so this plastic just really held everything in place. But it did look a wee bit.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker E: And then yeah, the wind load was pretty incredible. We had to reinforce the corners with, with the military mast. And then actually the windiest side was against my station and so put two pieces of military mast inside of the canopy and yeah, we had lines anchoring down and that piece of military mast in the middle of the canopy wall kept the canopy wall from folding in. It was pretty intense wind, so. Yes, indeed. But we had a great time and some wonderful company, some great food. We just had a blast.
Speaker A: Well, I suppose all of that is what winter field day is all about. Testing yourself in environments and adapting to it, making things work. Great performance for all of that to do.
Speaker C: Yep.
Speaker E: And will we do it again? Yeah, I think last, last Saturday I was mentioning this might be my last year but you know, in. In the rearview mirror it doesn't look that crazy. And we definitely had a fun time. But with that enough reminiscing about last week. You know, I think Orion and, and John are working on the scores right now to get those submitted. But it's just a reminder to everyone out there. I think Mark had mentioned look at the ARL website for rules for submission. No, it's not an ARL contest. So you head over to the Winter Field Day site. They have an online form you can fill out and submit your contacts and do make mention that you are part of Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club because I believe there is a club aggregated score as well. Other than that, good morning to you. Good morning to everybody. A beautiful blue skies. Sun is out. It's a beautiful Sunday.
Speaker A: Well, it sure is. No doubt about it. We'll be out and about here in a bit. But have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking into the net. Thanks for doing the fox Hunt with Matt. I'm sure he had a blast. I'll talk to him one of these days soon and we'll catch you next time.ai6uskw6u73 all right.
Speaker E: And you had a double underneath you there.
Speaker A: Sorry about that. Who was I doubling on
Speaker C: KI6RT?
Speaker A: Go ahead, John.
Speaker C: Hey, I just want to throw out there. Brian reminded me when he was talking I heard before I left for Hawaii something about ham clock going away. So are you guys familiar with open hand clock? Openhand clock.com is the director URL.
Speaker A: Brian, did you have any comment on that?
Speaker E: No, I not familiar with the.

2026-02-01 17:45:39 UTC 1115.2s · W6GRC TX (147.105 MHz)

Speaker A: I know there are several people out there working on a back end because I guess Elwood servers will be shut down in June, so. Yeah, I know there's a couple of projects out there, so I'll go check this one out.
Speaker B: I just pulled up the webpage. Openhamclock.com is existing. It looks a little different. We'll have to check it out. Thanks for mentioning that, John. And back to you, John.
Speaker A: Nope, I just heard about it. I saw it and I thought I'd pass it along.
Speaker C: Ki6rt.
Speaker B: All right, well, thanks, John, for that. Openhamclock.com is a resource. There's probably many. We'll learn about them, I'm sure, as we go along and find replacements. I did hear about that, the HAM clock going away, so unfortunately that's the case. Anyway, let's see, John or Brian, did you have anything else for the net? No, negative.
Speaker A: Nothing else for the net. Thank you very much, John. And yeah, HAM clock, what a great resource. Unfortunate situation there with Elwood. And just a reminder to us all we just don't know what other people are going through. You know, from the outside, you look at him, a developer, well liked, well supported in the community, you know, just so much for the amateur radio community with so many projects and we just don't know the, you know, don't know what people are going through, you know, behind the scenes. So, yeah, very unfortunate that, you know, he took his life. But, you know, it's just a good reminder to all of us that we just need to be more aware of what people are going through. Because what we see on the surface isn't always what's going on beneath AI6US.
Speaker B: All right, Brian, well, thanks for the comment and I appreciate it.ai6us.kw6u73. Good morning, Rick. N6DT, how are you this morning? I'll make one more effort there. Rick. N6DT, are you there? All right, we'll move on down the line here. Will. Kj5gwn, I heard you checked in. Good morning. How are you this morning? Good morning, Jeff.
Speaker A: Just here at Taco Bell. Get me something to eat and headed home from church, so I thought I would check in and make my name Known. This is KJ5Y'. All, Christian Oliver, back to you.
Speaker B: Well, we got you in there. Hopefully you had a good day at church and enjoying some Taco Bell right now. Good for you. Have a great day. Thanks for checking into the net this morning. KJ5GWN KW6U73. And good morning all. This is the Copy, Breaknet. Getting down to the end of the net here. I'll go ahead and do a round of in and outs and log onlys. In and outs and log onlys, please.
Speaker C: Good evening. Good. Yeah, good evening.
Speaker B: Good morning. Coffee, breakneck, kilo, golf six in November, lima, whiskey, in and out. Good evening.
Speaker A: Jeff, K6DLK6GAA, K4LGI, in and out.
Speaker C: Alpha kilo, 6 november sierra, ak6ns, log only.
Speaker B: All right, let me run through our list here. Ak6ns, ray, got you in the log. Sam, k4 lima, golf, idaho, got you is in and out. Kn6 gaa. Got you as an in and out. Dan, k6dlk as an in n out. And frank, k6nlw as in and out. Did I miss anyone? All right, I'll start up there with Frank. KG6NLW. Good morning and how are you? Good morning one and all. Taking a quick little break here and we had fun doing some pony yesterday. I was out there with another operator. We only got 10 contacts though. It was quite a slog. The normal place that we set up for at that park, the noise floor went from like an S4 to an S7 and it was just absolute slog. Other than that, not much else going on here. Gonna have fun this next week with Fridays with Frank on my YouTube channel. And of course NorCal SwapNet Thursdays at 8pm with that, back to net control and catch you later everyone. Have a great day.
Speaker C: And Stewie says what?
Speaker B: KG6NLW. Oh, sounds like fun. All right, have a great day. Thanks for checking into the net. KG6NLW kW6U73.73 and good morning, Dan. K6DLK. How are you this morning? Are you off in Hawaii right now?
Speaker C: Hi Cam, Jeff. Good morning. I missed Hawaii talk with you and John ti6rt earlier and I guess he did confirm. We are looking at VOG here. Somebody mentioned that to me that we were seeing these beautiful sunsets on this side because of the fog in the air and hearing John talk about actually seeing the eruption. Just put the exclamation point on that one.
Speaker B: Being able to see one. It sounds very cool, but I'm just not sure that I want to be anywhere near it
Speaker A: every once in a while.
Speaker B: I left the Philippines before Mount Pinatubo went off. I was gone just a few months and would not have wanted to be there during that time.
Speaker C: Yep, yep. We have our spare the air days and concerns, allergy concern days in California. Stuff like that thing here when it's that everybody's told to kind of, kind of limit exposure, especially the more sensitive crowd. But no, it's beautiful now it's all cleared up. It just depends on the wind direction. And when we had the Kona winds, we had some really rough surf yesterday actually, it was coming from blowing from the south. And I always know when I'm heading down there with the paddle board and I see the kids walking next to me, a little bit more hurried pace and they're actually carrying their short boards, you know, they're going to ride waves. And I'm thinking, where are they going with those? And then I realized, you know, when the waves are setting up and they're running long and they're pretty heavy, they got a lot of weight behind them, a lot of water. They were just having a blast. But it was not a day for the just swimmers and casual people in the ocean, that's for sure.
Speaker B: Well, when you see whitecaps out there, I can't imagine it's going to be fun on the paddle board either. At least my paddle board is a blow up type so, you know, it catches the wind. It's a good one, but it catches the wind when we're on Tahoe.
Speaker C: Yeah, sounds like it. I have a thruster. She complains every time I get on her. She preferred me 20 pounds lighter. Now she just groans when I hop on. But the thruster has the three skakes in the back and I can usually do a pretty good. It's designed that you can get in the waves and enjoy yourself. But my body's no longer designed to do that.
Speaker B: Yeah, just take a mellow and enjoy the fine weather when it's there for you and the wildlife that you happen to see.
Speaker C: Yeah, sorry, Ms. John, I have the radio set up. I haven't gotten into it yet. I was going to be seeing if I can enjoy a little radio time now that I've got other chores caught up with. It was great to hear Brian talk about the activities going on and having the guys up on winter field day and things like that. And staying connected on the radio side is always fun. There's a good community here too that has nets and things like that. And in the off time, recovery time, it's nice to kind of tune in, see what's happening out there.
Speaker B: Well, Dan, from where you're checking in, it's also nice to hear the background birds. They are going to town this morning and I love it.
Speaker C: Yeah, I'm on my back. Lanai finally have everything all cleaned up and washed down and you know, with The. With the salt air, you get this mist all over everything, and it really is important you have to keep everything all cleaned up. So I'm finally able to take a breath here and sit back and watch again the sunrise and get prepared to head on out. I'm not doing the early mornings as I used to. I'll tell you, I used to be able to walk these distances and swim and enjoy a more active set of days, but I'm looking down at my feet and they're kind of telling me, take it easy. I do enjoy being grounded, though. You know, I keep getting people that pull me over off to the side saying, you know, how important it is to stay grounded. You know, take your shoes off once in a while. I get it. It does work. So wherever you're at when you can, if you can stay grounded,
Speaker B: especially in the sand, there is something. You're definitely grounded there.
Speaker C: Yeah. Gotta get in that little bit of water from the shore break, too. Sand and water increase the grounding. I better get the heck out of the way. You have a lot of great people coming in to check in and let us know what they're up to. And I always enjoy listening in, too, and again, staying connected. So, everybody, have a wonderful Sunday. Enjoy your beautiful weather wherever you're at. Enjoy your day. K6TLK.
Speaker B: Well, thanks for checking in, Dan. It's nice to hear the birds in the background, so we'll catch you next time. K6D OK. KW6U 73.
Speaker C: KW6U. Always a pleasure. Already looking forward to the next one. 73 in Aloha case Steel King.
Speaker B: Aloha. Good morning, Frank. KN6GAA. I have not heard you in a while. How are you?
Speaker A: Good morning, Jeff and the net. KN68 here. We're doing good, actually. We've just been doing a little bit of work early, and I haven't actually been much on the radio, to be honest with you. I've been kind of just doing my thing and taking a little bit of a break. And this weekend I thought, you know, I'm gonna switch the radio on. And, you know, it's really funny. It's been so long since I've logged into my. My Shari node that I've actually lost my password. Fortunately, I was able to actually reset it, so I thought I was gonna lock myself out for good. Would have to actually do a reset on the whole thing.
Speaker B: Oh, my, yes. If you haven't logged in a while and you don't remember passwords, they've gotten so big and so complicated. Anymore who can remember their passwords without a manager?
Speaker A: You know, really considering a password manager. I was thinking about it yesterday as I updated a variety of accounts and things, and I'm thinking, man, I'm just getting a little too old for all this memorization of a password and whatnot. And then what do you do? You start writing some of them down, which of course defeats the purpose of it. So I'm really thinking of actually utilizing a pass.
Speaker B: That's what I do. It's the only way I can keep track of the complicated ones you're generating. And so that's the way it is. You got to do that. Well, you know, it's nice to hear you. I'm glad you managed to get back on the air. So have a. Well, I have a lot of fun with that. There's going to be some more activity on the repeater later on this morning for sure. So have fun with that.
Speaker A: Awesome. Good excuse to stay tuned. And we're going to go and hunt breakfast here in a minute. I hope everybody's doing good. Good to hear you as well, Jeff. And did you by any chance, right quick, do you any. Did you change your call sign?
Speaker B: I did. I did change my call sign. It used to be KM6RGO. I am now KW6U. That was an upgrade this year or last year, actually.
Speaker C: This is the home of sac Valley's
Speaker B: original 105W6 GRC with a PL tone of 110.9.
Speaker A: Obviously it's been since even before that. And I'm assuming you went extra, so congratulations on that. Yeah, it surprised me there for a moment when I first switched the radio on and I heard you throughout your call, son, and I thought, wait a minute, that's hard to. What happened? So good for you.
Speaker B: Yeah. I hadn't talked to you in a while, but this was like I had extra for a little while that I took CW OPS classes. And when I got to 15 words a minute of good, solid copy, I, I told myself as a, that's when I would change my call time when I was at that point to something a little more CW friendly. So that's what I did.
Speaker A: Okay. Okay. That makes perfect sense. Instead of the. The two by three. All right. Well, sounds, sounds awesome, Jeff, again, good to hear from you. And you have a great rest of your Sunday. I know you got a couple, couple other people here and we hit the magic hour. So 7:3 and I hope everybody's doing good. You and at the QTH as well. KN6GA.
Speaker B: Well, thanks for checking in. Glad to hear you. Yes, we're all doing well and we'll catch you next time. KN6 GAA. Don't be a strange. Good morning, Sam. K4 Lima, Golf, Idaho, how are you this morning?
Speaker A: Okay, Jeff, as Annette comes to a halt here.
Speaker C: Wonderful weather here in Denver.
Speaker A: Seeds are on sale at Walmart now and things that. I guess the groundhog saw his shadow. So I'll let you pull the plugs to make a beeline. See you later, K4LGI.
Speaker B: All right, thanks so much for checking in and yes, I do have to wrap things up, but we'll talk to you later. K4 Lima, Golf, Idaho. KW6U73 all right, it is 10:02. I do need to wrap up and head out, but they'll just give one round of log onlys and then we'll call it from there. Anyone that's been Lurkin, log only, please.

Speaker C: Thank you.
Speaker B: Kilo Hotel 7, whiskey mike only.
Speaker A: Kilo delta 6 oscar, kilo foxtra, kilo delta 6 oscar, kilo foxtrad.

Speaker A: Clock.
Speaker B: We're gonna go ahead and wrap up the coffee breaknet. We'll catch you all next time. Remember, the coffee breaknet is every morning, 7:30 today, 10:00am and have a beautiful and blessed day. This is KW6U73 to all. Returning the repeater back to normal operation.

Speaker B: A strong signal coming in, but you're overdriven a bit on your audio. Good morning.
Speaker A: Good morning. AI6s going to lower the mic. This is.
Speaker B: Yeah, your audio is cutting in and out and when it's there it seems a bit over modulated. But yeah, the audio keeps cutting in and out there. Yeah. If you were transmitting audio, nothing received, just a carrier. Hope that helps. Ai6us.
Speaker A: Okay, so I'm far away from the mic.
Speaker B: All we heard was I'm far away from the. And then your audio cut off again.
Speaker A: Okay, maybe only in this repeater. Yeah, in other repeater I always have. Okay, thank you, have a nice day.
Speaker B: Yeah, I heard something about other repeater. Have a nice day. But yeah, your audio just keeps cutting in and out. So I think there's a mechanical issue there. Good luck tracking it down. AI6US. Yeah, if you're trying to get into the repeater, it is just carrier only, no audio. I'm hearing the courtesy tones. That's the only indication to me. Yeah, no, no audio, just a carrier. Yeah, just carrier, no audio.
Speaker A: This is k06elzai6us for the info I'm not transmitting anymore. I'm using the All Starlink. So just for the info, I don't want to be. I'm not the one who's transmitting anymore. 73.

Speaker A: M 17 indeed. Las vegas.
Speaker B: Qf. Hey Nat.
Speaker A: How you doing down there?
Speaker B: Well, I'm getting along. My back's getting back to shape. I fell a couple weeks ago.
Speaker A: Stupid thing I did.
Speaker B: But all that aside, I'm getting pretty much. I can't believe it. Back to the normal more or less. I don't have the stamina cuz I don't. I don't exercise and stuff like I used to. But I. I might start getting back to it a little while. How's everything in your area?
Speaker A: Sorry to hear that. Yeah. At least you're on the road to recovery. It sounds like that's okay. You know we're with this so stupid shutdown fan game but the problem now is I've got money on contract through March so I'm not concerned about anything but you know they're playing, they're playing their silly games again. But there won't be any impact to the guys this time other than that I just really just seems like raw was just. Just busy, busy, busy. Gonna be heading to Yuma here toward at the end of the month for that the swap thing. So that'll be interesting. I know Bob and a couple of the guys from here in Vegas are in Ghost so Lee and I are going to head down there on that Friday morning, whatever the last Friday of the month is and then come back on Sunday.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, that's great. I did enjoy it when I used
Speaker A: to go back years ago.
Speaker B: I can't make it. I really can't travel much anymore, particularly now so. But I will miss that. You guys have a good time. But otherwise everything is the same here in the retirement community. And I'm glad that with the shutdown it's not going to affect the guys in the work. Yeah but I'm not going to comment
Speaker A: on radio that
Speaker B: anyhow. Say hi to Cheryl for me. And Joan's doing great.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'll do that. I'll do that. She's in her craft room doing some stuff. She got another multi needle machine at
Speaker B: a show in
Speaker A: Cal down near la. I forgot the name of the city she was in. Whatever it is matter, she bought one of those, ordered it to be here the end of March. So she rearranged for that. So she's kind of excited about getting that and yeah it's. That's about it. Everything with the club. Club's pretty stable. Everything seems to be working pretty well so knock on wood. And now my mom was in the. My mom was in the hospital for a while. Problem with you know Water weight again because of her heart condition. So she's in rehab for. Been in there for just over a week. I just got done coming back from seeing her after I went to the gym. She's getting anxious to get out of there. But I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to be able to ever bring her back home. I may have to look for a community like you're in, but she's fighting that tooth and nail. So that's. You can imagine the drama with that. So I'm kind of struggling with that right now.
Speaker B: Yeah, Ralph, I understand it. Well, tell her that I've enjoyed it. It's great to have other people around and that can help. And, you know, there's dining, depending on what kind of a retirement community, and everything's kind of taken care of. And they have exercise programs and they have other programs. They have music every week and things. She might really enjoy it. Tell her that I enjoy it quite a bit.
Speaker A: Well, you know, I've already told her that because she knows you. Of course, I mentioned that. And it's just. It's just a drama moving out of your house. But, you know, even the place she's at right now, they have. They have events every day. And she was commenting today about, you know, I just sit here, watch tv. I said, well, you know, why don't you go to these things? And I showed her all this stuff and I said, you just got to tell them, you know, you want to go and they'll take you there because they got, you know, they got like a piano guitar player and they have like, you know, board games and stuff. They'll play the bingo nights and, you know, all kinds of stuff like that. And there's this game that she likes called Rummy Cube that she likes a lot. They have a Rummy Cube tournament every Friday night. But she doesn't seem to be interested in participating in that stuff. So she's just depressed right now. But anyways, again. Yeah, other than that, it's been. It's been pretty much same old, same old here I told you about. Dirk's going to be retiring the end of June. Grimes is going to be retiring the end of September. So a lot of folks are to going be changing out here shortly.
Speaker B: Oh, wow. Grimes. It's interesting. You know, right at the end there was some dropouts, so not too long. So I got the instance of everything. It's funny I don't get in your direction, whatever the link. So it's really great talking to you And I really enjoy it. And Joan's playing cards this Sunday. Saturday and Sunday afternoon she plays cards. And we go to a music fest. There's a. This group comes in and they bring all kinds of entertainers every week. And we're going to go again Monday. They come in the spring and early summer, sometimes during the summer. So anyhow, that's what's going on here, Ralph.
Speaker A: Okay. I'm not sure. I'm getting dropouts going directly to my note here at the house, but who knows? Okay.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker A: And Tyler Durham's coming in town third Tuesday night. Him and I are meeting Wednesday and going to go have dinner Wednesday evening. So he'll be in for a little bit. I'll say hi. I'll say hi to him for you. And looks like. It looks like Joe, Joe Wanger may be coming back to work for me. He's had some. Some drama with his current employer that I'll tell you offline. But he's looking at coming back, so I might pick him back up.
Speaker B: Oh, wow. Yeah, Joe and I go way back. I mean, 30 years, maybe longer. He was still working for the contractor when we first met. Yeah. Yeah. That's great. Say hi to Joe and hi to Tyler.
Speaker A: That's great.
Speaker B: I'm going to lean back and take a nap. I've been out shopping and doing things, so back's a little sore. So I'm going to take it easy. Take care and have a good week. W7OQF in Phoenix.
Speaker A: Okay.
Speaker B: Nat.
Speaker A: Yeah. Good to talk to you. Good to talk to you. I'll pass on the best to joe and tyler for you. And 7tnd vegas.
