Speaker A: 6 lrc, k6zf.
Speaker B: Okay, this is system nine. This is. I should be getting system 12, but anyway. Okay. Yeah, nothing on 40 meters. Nothing at all. Didn't hear a squeak, but I was getting Idaho just fine.
Speaker C: Yeah,
Speaker A: where I'm at, 40 is supposed to be a concho. Every piece of 40. I hear something.
Speaker C: Try Lincoln
Speaker B: to the Columbia, see if that works. I should be able to right here in Tuolumne City. Almost.
Speaker A: Well, why don't you try?
Speaker B: Yeah, I could. I don't know. I don't have them categorized like that. I don't know which one's which. Probably I've got them all in a bank of about 12 and I have it on scan and if you were to activate the one and you can get into then I could pick you up. A couple of shouts on it and I'll see if I can pull it out.

Amateur Radio News line report number 2517 with the release date of Friday, January 23, 2026 to follow in five 4, 3, 2, 1. The following is a QST A Severe Solar Radiation Storm Disrupts HF Communication US Lawmakers Propose Restoring funds to Voice of America and in New Zealand, Q codes are on the move. All this and more as Amateur Radio Newsline Report number 2517 comes your way right now from around the world. This is Newsline, Amateur Radio's first independent on the air News and Bulletin service. Now reporting from Wadsworth, Ohio, here's Stephen Kenford in awp. Our top story this week is the most severe solar radiation storm in more than 20 years. It began on Monday, January 19th and lasted through much of the week. The National Weather Service declared the storm to be at an S4 level, a degree of severity not seen since October of 2023. S4 is the second highest level of this type of storm. The storm severity, which exceeded that of the one in October of 2023 disrupted the HF ban, challenging ham radio operators while creating spectacular auroral display. A bipartisan agreement among the US Lawmakers could restore the government's financial support of Voice of America, Radio Free Europe and other federally funded news services. Kent Peterson, KC0DDY has that story. US lawmakers in Washington, D.C. have reached a deal that would fund the Voice of America giving its parent organization, the U.S. agency for Global Media, an estimated $653 million. That figure is considerably lower than the annual $860 million provided previously to the agency as described on the Radio World website. The funds would also pay for restoration of operations for Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty and Radio Free Asia. A minimum of $30 million is earmarked for medium and shortwave programming by the Office of Cuba Broadcasting. The deal is part of a larger spending bill, the National Security Department of State and Related Programs Appropriations Act. It has the support of both parties in Congress and its funding plan goes against the White House's executive order from last year which shut the international news services. Even if the measure receives final approval from the House and Senate, it will still require the President's signature. This is Ken Peterson, KC0 DTY. The NASA's Artemis 2 mission began its long awaited journey to the moon and back on Saturday 17 January with the Rockets rollout onto the launch pad at the Kennedy Space center in Florida. Three of the four astronauts who will be aboard have their amateur radio licenses. Travis L3Ils tells us what's up next. W6RHC repeater check two.

Speaker A: W e z a x n receiver.
Speaker B: That is W7X Ray Zulu. Hopefully I'm on the center buttes repeater.
Speaker A: Yep, Roger, you're on WD6AX engine.
Speaker B: Sorry about that, I had a little cockpit problem here with the rig. Anyway, this is W7X Ray Izulu calling the Oroville Amateur Radio Society Sunday Night Net. This net meets Sunday evenings at 8pm local time and sorry for the delay in getting back on the right channel here. Let's see who's out there. Stations wishing to check into the net please call now. It's W7XZ.
Speaker A: Okay, six HFP checking in.
Speaker C: Mike Dinky Fox trip.
Speaker A: Kf60w.
Speaker B: W7X Ray Zulu. Well I've got three here and sorry for the delay in starting starting up the net. Apparently I had a stray touch on the the panel of the rig here and had to go find it. Anyway K6HFP. Good evening again John from the Zoom session. KB9MYF. Good evening Jeff and KF6EWO. Good evening again Gary from the Zoom session. Do we have any additional stats to Check in this W7X Ray Zulu? Nothing hurt. Guess we're on kind of a light turnout tonight. Anyway let's go to the roundtable mode here and get K6HFP. John you're the leadoff person tonight and from you it'll go to Jeff, KB9 my F. Jeff you'll be passing it to Kilo, Foxtrot Six Echo, Whiskey Oscar. That's Gary. So John, it's your nickel, K6HFP and
Speaker A: the net, W7XZ, W7X Ray Zulu and the net. This is K6HMP John up in Oreville. Thanks Jim. So for me the week kind of flew by. It's kind of busy all week doing doing errands and appointments and staying busy all the time so. But whatchamacallit that X flare today? Oh my gosh, about 4:30 today x 8.1 or something popped off from that gigantic sunspot that's rotating towards Earth. So hopefully nothing, nothing major happens but potentially I've been hearing about possibility of some big big stuff popping off from it so hope everybody stays alert on that. Other than that good to see everybody that showed up on Zoom kind of flew by pretty quick and it's good to see everybody that joined there. Sorry I missed breakfast yesterday, tried to make it, couldn't make it. Sorry about that guys. And other than that just trying to keep up on my extra extra upgrade studies and stuff like that so been working on that still and hopefully it's one and done on that one, but that's all I got for tonight.
Speaker B: Hope everybody's doing good.
Speaker A: Have a good week. Coming up here, pass it over to Jeff, KB9MYF and Annette K6HFP.
Speaker C: Oh, yesterday I went over and bought it. I wonder where the east of Sacramento and bought a antenna a HF antenna, a Cushcraft R7 and it's upright right now. It's only tune it but.
Fresno link up.
Speaker A: Kb9 MYF and the Nat W7XZ. Jeff, are you still there? You dropped out after talking about tuning the Cushcraft R7. I wonder if we doubled their kb9 myf and the net w7xz. Jeff, are you still there?
Speaker B: Did I drop out?
Speaker A: Yeah, you did.
Speaker B: Oh okay. My Somehow my radio gets switched to higher power. I don't really have the power to do it. I got a new antenna Yesterday,
Speaker C: a
Speaker B: Cushcraft R7 which is a multi band HF antenna for 40 meters up to 10 and I got it up right now but I needed to do some
Speaker A: tuning
Speaker B: but seems to be going pretty good and I moved my chute meter antenna so that now on 25 watts I can hit the mount rose repeater from here. Other than that, not much going on KB9 MYF. Go ahead Gary.
Speaker C: Kb9nyf Nanette, this is kf6cwo Gary and Oroville. Not a whole lot going on here. I've just been working doing some what they call extra help with the school district. In fact I gotta work again tomorrow so I'm making a little money here and there and I've been doing some research in some different antennas and trying to decide what I want to build next out in the backyard and
Speaker A: listened
Speaker C: a little bit on the radio. There was oh one day I guess 10 meters was pretty busy a little while back earlier in the week I think it was and anyway just staying out of trouble, trying to stay warm down here. So I'll pass it back to you Jim. W7X Ray Zulu and Nanette. This is KF6EWO,
Speaker A: Kf6ewo and the nat w7x ray zulu. Okay gary, very good and before I ramble a bit here, do we have any additional check ins to to the net this w7x ray zulu? Nothing heard. Well, I'll put out a little bit of a QST the Oroville Amateur Radio Society March meeting night which is March 13th. We will have volunteer examiners at the venue for license examinations and anyone looking to upgrade a current license or prospect of new licensee all are welcome and tentatively scheduling things to be starting about 6pm or so that night. Anyway with that W E6A X N repeater. Anyway with with that said. Yeah John, that I mentioned on the zoom session that the x 8.1 flare was quite noticeable on 40 meters there on the phone band this afternoon and the two stations I was having a roundtable with went from 5 to 20 over 9 down to S3 or S2 and I understand and with just my hundred watts there on 40 meters I kind of disappeared on there and it really took the path away. Anyway, there are probably going to be some more of those. We're still fairly high in the cycle although we appear to be past the peak. And my experience over the last few sunspots cycles is that the declining part of the cycle seems to be where the flares seem to be more frequent. Anyway, aside from that haven't done too awfully much on the air here except keeping a schedule on 75 meters in the morning for half an hour before I get my day started. And anyway, with that I'll put out one more call. Do we have any additional check ins to the net? This is W7X Ray Zulu. Nothing heard. I'll run it back up the line here. Does any station have any additional comments for the net? W7X Ray Zulu
Speaker C: okay, 6HFP.
Speaker A: Go ahead John.
Speaker C: I meant to mention I do have my 10 meter gear up and ready so I'll be on 10 tonight.
Speaker A: Okay, very good. Well I'm all tuned up on 10 here also. And anyway for Jeff, when we adjourn the net here we go to 28.450 MHz upper sideband on 10 meters and do essentially a short net session up there and hopefully be able to join us once you get the antenna working there. And well let's see with that. Are there any other additional comments for the nap? This W7X rays 89 mys. Go ahead Jeff.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm going to try tonight to get on 28 450. In fact I'm there now and I have two 10 meter antennas. It's all tuned up on 10 meters already. I just haven't seen the other bands but I'm going to give it a try anyway. KB9 MYF.
Speaker A: Okay Jeff, very good and we'll give a listen for you once we adjourn the net here. Any additional comments? This is W7X Ray Zillow. Nothing hurts. Sounds like we got it done. I'll make this the last call for any late check ins or any unfinished business before we close the 2 meter portion of the net. This time W7X rays. Nothing hurt. Thank you for the check ins tonight. This net will convene again this coming Sunday evening at 8pm and hopefully your net control can get the transceiver on the right channel here for the repeater on time. This is W7X Ray Zulu signing the 2 meter portion of the Oroville Amateur Radio Society Sunday night Net clear and going QSY to 28.450 MHz upper sideband. Good evening to all.

Speaker A: Good morning and welcome to the coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater located in Auburn, California. The coffee break Net, where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping. This net is sponsored by the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club in Northern California. And we're here every day of the week from 7:30am to 10:00am Pacific Time. Please welcome your net control host and conversation facilitator, Brian AI6US, checking in from beautiful Meadow Vista, California. Let's get the Coffee Break net underway because it's a great way to start our day. Good morning, everyone.
Speaker B: Good morning, everybody. AI6 us here, beautiful Meadow Vista, California. And yes indeed, let's start off the coffee breaknet on it's Monday morning. It is February 2nd, 2026. And let's check out the national international days and then we'll get to get our check ins underway. Today is Groundhog Day. So yes, groundhogs in several cities will be will be woken, drug out of their dens, forced to forced into the sunlight to see if they see their shadows or not. Groundhog Day today. So if today just feels like a repetitious day, maybe today is a good day to grab that movie and watch that groundhog movie again. Not to be outdone, the marmots and the hedgehogs. Yes, they saw their cousin getting all the attention today and they decided, you know, it's going to be marmot day and hedgehog Day today. Today is wetlands and rivers day, reminding us of the important part that wetlands and rivers provide to our communities. Today is crepe day. So put your pancakes on a diet. Have a crepe instead. Kiwi fruit day. Absolutely love kiwis, grown here in California especially. And maybe Dan will be checking in later on from, from Hawaii because today is National Ukulele Day. Maybe he'll pull out that ukulele and treat us to a strum or two. Here we go. What do they do with all the discarded parts from potatoes? Well, we know what they do with the discarded parts from chickens and beef and other things. Yeah, those are hot dogs. But yes, today is National Tater Tot Day. Tater tots are made up of the remaining parts from the french fry process. So they taste delicious and I enjoy them. Maybe you do as well. So thank you for leftover parts in the french fry process. Good morning. Let's go ahead and get the coffee Break net underway. I'm Brian AI6US and let's go ahead and take take a few rounds of quick in and outs to get the coffee breaknet underway on this Monday. Somebody already is trying to transmit. KW4U is already keyed up and ready to go. So thank you very much for keying over the top of me.
Speaker C: John.
Speaker B: Good morning. Coffee break. Well, okay. Somebody else is doing as well. Rachel. Nope, sorry. You guys aren't going to get in, so I'm going to let up the key and let's see. Let's take local RF check INS first.
Speaker D: N60 kilo November 6th whiskey, Quebec, uniform K N6WQ. Good morning, Brian.
Speaker B: Islands. All right, I heard the end of Rick's voice in there. Rick, your full call. Kilo, delta 6 charlie. Delta, quebec, ricken off highlands. Good morning, rick. Kd6cdq. And good morning, robert, ko6kmr. And good morning to dan, kn6wqu. And then there was just a bunch of kerfuffles in there I missed in the rf. Check ins direct check ins direction the repeater n6 ckv. Good morning to you there, Carl. Good to hear you in this morning as well. All right, and then let's see who's out there coming in through the inter. We will add you onto the list. Kilo, Charles. KW for you.
Speaker C: KW for you. Sorry about that, Brian. I actually thought you were done. But in my defense, haven't had coffee yet.
Speaker B: Kj5 golf whiskey in olympic. Good morning,
Speaker D: kilo, echo 9, whiskey yankee, orland park, illinois.
Speaker B: Okay, Victor's roll flake in and out, please. All right. Good morning, Ka3VGM. All check ins in this round are quick in and out. So hang around, we'll be back to you probably about five or 10 minutes. So thank you for adding yourself to the list for in and out. Good morning, Rachel, KE9AWY. Good morning, Will. KJ5GWN. Good morning to John, KW4U. And good morning to Graydon, KC6SLE. All right, up to the top. And we have a good list to start us off this morning on this Monday morning. Good morning, Dan, KN6WQU quick in and out. What do you have for us?
Speaker D: Good morning, Brian and annette. This is KN6WQ. Yes, it's a beautiful Monday morning here in North Highlands. The sun is shining and birds are singing. And I bet the fish are jumping. Indeed. We sure do miss that Bill guy. Let's see. The Rattail 950 Pro showed up on my door finally. That thing's pretty neat. I think it's going to be my carry around. That's how nice it is. I like the APRs functions and the programming is kind of. Kind of Jittery, but, you know, once you get it in there, it'll be all right. So it's got three VFOs, and I think I can even transit on some RF if I change or, I'm sorry, HF stuff. If I change the antenna. I haven't checked it out yet, but it was just checking it out, trying to get it all programmed yesterday to my all star notes and stuff. So that's pretty neat. Anything still down? Don't know what's going on with it now. We're gonna have to call the company again in and find out what we're doing wrong. We did everything they said, and now it's tripping even sooner. So I'm not sure that's all I got. Everybody. Have a great day. This is wq,
Speaker B: all right? Of any HT out there right now that I wish I did have, it would be that 950 Pro. Looks like a very interesting HT. So one quick question before I let you go. Are you staying with the. With the factory firmware or are you going over to the next shore? Oh, boy.
Speaker D: Oh, boy. That is a question that I'm gonna have to answer later because right now, the factory firmware, well, you know, I might have to go to next year. I. You know what? I don't know yet. I have to check that out because like I said, the factory firmware is really clunky. Like, you have to, like, save. So you have to go in, like, you put the frequency in, you set the CPCSS and all that, then you save it, and then you gotta go back into VFO mode and then you can change the name of it and then all of that and then save it again, which is really kind of ridiculous. So I might check out to make sure if that is available for the 950 Pro. So I will definitely check it out. Thank you for that. Heads up, Ryan.
Speaker B: Yeah, not sure if it's been released for the Pro yet, but I did see some releases for the 950, so, yeah, check that out. Let us know. KN6WQU. Hopefully you get that AC H vac split system all sorted out soon. And sorry to hear about the problems clearing with KN6WQ. Good morning, Robert Ko's Mr. Good morning, Brian. Really don't have much this morning. I just want to give out a big thanks to
Speaker C: Graydon Hicks, who got
Speaker B: a hold of burton Gilbert. And Mr. Gilbert's gonna give me a call today, and we're gonna set up a meeting for tomorrow and start my process of hopefully finding out where all my statics coming from on my hf. Oh well, very good. Glad that Grayton was able to assist you with that. Yeah, I, I was kind of delayed on being able to get get to assist you just because of other commitments and so I had suggested Graydon that Burton was somebody who lived nearby and he has a heck of a lot of skill set and a very knowledgeable, very knowledgeable guy, good friend of mine. So excellent Robert. Let's keep us informed as to what you guys find. We'll certainly do that and I appreciate it. That's all I've got. KO Oscar 6 KMR going out over. All right Robert, Happy Monday to you. Clearing with KO6KMR and Good Morning Rick. KD6CDQ. Good morning Brian and not so happy Groundhog Day since Opunk Tonky Phil kind of looks shadow and skedaddle and yelled six more weeks of winter. Oh my gosh. But that's life as you get it if you believe in that stuff. Nothing going on here today. Just kicking back, checking out the news and listening to the radio a little bit. Other than that, everybody else out there, have yourself a great day.
Speaker D: Katie.
Speaker B: CDQ73 y' all. Alright, well thanks for the update on the on the six more weeks of winter. Thank you Pucksidenti, Phil and all the other groundhogs out there. I wonder if they if the other groundhogs will agree with him. Have a great day Rick. Enjoy your six more weeks of winter. Pretty tough out here in California. KD6CDQ AI6US73. Well Carl, time to order one more load of coal for the winter. N6CKV Good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning Brian and everyone else out there.
Speaker B: N60 KV here. Well I got a doctors appointment this morning about 10 o' clock and tomorrow I'm going to miss the net. My procedure is scheduled to be there at seven in the morning so I'm going to be at the hospital.
Speaker C: But it shouldn't take too long. Maybe I can catch you at 10 o'.
Speaker B: Clock. Other than that, not much going on. It's a little hazy out, a little light fog. Back to you Brian. Well, very good. I hope that tomorrow helps resolve some of the issues with that back pain. And how soon after the procedure will you know if it's effective? It's a 60 day run so we'll
Speaker C: have to see at the end of 60 days.
Speaker B: Well certainly, certainly hope that this is a good resolution for that back pain for you Carl. Have a wonderful day and we'll be thinking of you tomorrow. And definitely you know skilled hands of the surgeon and it sounds like it's going to be a quick recovery time for you. But these procedures aren't without discomfort, that is for sure. N6CKV AI Good morning to Ruth 7:3. Everyone have a good Monday to then
Speaker C: 60kV and Hidel in.
Speaker B: Hey everybody pick up your microphones. Let's wish Carl well with his procedure tomorrow to have some work done on his back. So just everybody pick up your microphones. Let's wish Carl well tomorrow. Best wishes, Carl.
Speaker C: AI.
Speaker D: Good luck, carl.
Speaker B: Good luck, carl. I hope your surgery goes well.
Speaker D: This is ke9awi.
Speaker B: Good luck, carl. There we go. There's some good wishes and and positive thoughts coming your way, Carl. Have a wonderful and we'll be thinking of you. 7373 and thank you.
Speaker C: N60 KV.
Speaker B: Hopefully Carl took all that positive energy and absorbed it there. Thanks everybody. Good morning, Graydon. KC6SOLE. Good morning, Brian. Hope you're doing well. Hard to believe that we are already. It's already time for the second VE test of the year. Can you believe that we are now into February? Yep. This evening de exam at the Auburn Crossroads Church campus. And then of course, everybody in the Greater Sacramento region is invited to join us for dinner. We have a great social time, whether you're part of the VE program or not. We have a great social dinner. Tonight we will be at Brewster's Burgers. That's off Highway 80 near the forest Hill exit. And Brewsters Burger. Great, great place. Good morning, Graydon. Anything for the net today? Yeah, I'd like to thank Burton for helping Robert out. You know, waiting to hear confirmation that that's taking place. So, Robert, I'm glad you're getting the help that you need and Burton is a perfect person to do that. You know, Brian, yesterday I started doing my annual weeding and it's not too soon. The other thing I did is I actually had to turn my irrigation system back on. A little concerned about the lack of snow in the Sierra mountains. It's the largest reservoir we have.
Speaker D: And I'll tell you what, on Wednesday
Speaker B: we'll be heading up to Reno, so I'll get a firsthand look at it, but can't be much. You know, I have not been up into the snow this year, but yeah, it can't be much up there.
Speaker D: Yep.
Speaker B: Well, we certainly have gotten the rain here. And I agree with you, I am seeing the grass sprouting up and already ankle deep that I typically won't see for another month or two. So, yeah, we're probably going to have a strong grass and weed growing period along with the lack of possible water for the summer. Could be a. Could be a bad situation. Well Graydon, we will see you later today and I imagine we'll catch you at the dinner this afternoon and we certainly look forward. Thank you for organizing all of the Elmers in the. In the. In the area here. Thank you. I will see you at 5 o' clock for dinner everyone. Have a great day. 73 KC6 I believe. All right clearing with Grayton. Let's head on down. Check in with John kw4u Good morning John. Hi Brian.
Speaker C: Everyone else on the net, nothing much going on. Just reviewed my inbox and I see that the Radio Society of Tucson Springham Fest is going to be April 11th and now I realize that's probably going to be a conflict with the Arizona Council the blind annual meeting so I'll have to go early because they open at 7 and the meeting won't start till 9 so I won't be able to stay for the bargains or at least not easily. Nothing really new to report very long but did want to jump in and I hadn't been in here hardly at all in January. In fact I don't think I lose just one day so you know won't gratuitously keep it because there's not too much news. Oh I would just would like to know who makes that 950 pro. That. That would be infant. I never heard of that break KW for you.
Speaker B: Let's see. Let me. Let me look up. The 950 Pro is the Radtel. That's the name I was looking for. I was thinking of TID radio. I knew that wasn't wrong. Yeah the Radtel RT950 Pro and supposedly it transmits 10 meters and higher and. And yeah it seems to have gotten pretty good reviews. The only thing that I see is it's a big HT but it's certainly feature filled.
Speaker D: Okay.
Speaker C: I hadn't heard anything about it. I'm toying with the idea of getting a wahaksung kg 1000g plus or just 1000 plus. I'm not sure whether this G at the end as well it's a GMRS rig but it's a very nice rig so I thought I might have a nice second GMRS rig to be around here.
Speaker B: Okay, fine.
Speaker C: Back to you won't hold it let you get on with the listen so I can get on making coffee KW for you.
Speaker B: All right John. Well you're starting out February in a good way. So we'll look forward to you checking in this month. And yeah, missed you, missed you over the past month. But that's how amateur radio is. We sometimes check. INS, come, come and go. KJ5GWS.
Ak6vzd mobile we6axm repeater.
W6 rhc repeater check 2.
Speaker A: Ai6us. And let's head on back to Rachel, who is discovering what it's like to live in the Midwest after living in California.
Speaker B: KE9A.
Speaker A: Good morning.
Speaker C: This is kiloecho9 Alpha whiskey yankee9. Yeah, it's pretty chilly out here. I'm actually at the Orland Mall. I actually lived out here for a year and three months and moved here from like May 2024 to August 2025. I did one winter here, but oh yeah, the fruit days, the kiwi and that's all fruit. But the food days, the hash browns and whatever else other food. Mmm, good food. Yeah, I was hoping you'd get to me because today I'm busy. I tried to. Yeah, today was lousy. The first stop I went to, I'm like, yeah, that's not too good. I better get out of here.
Speaker B: It's closed.
Speaker C: So I decided to redeem myself. I had to go to Apple to fix something. I'm having to look at my Apple Watch fan because my Apple Watch band, instead of becoming an Apple Just Watch fan, also became a razr. So the melanese loop is kind of faulty sometimes. So I can have them take a look and see what they want to do with it or nothing. If nothing, I might just replace it so I don't cut myself like I did last night. Tidy Knit. What else? I have lunch today. I've been racking up my six lunch appointments. The last two is today. Then I moved to Wisconsin onto Wisconsin on Wednesday. So that is my plans. And yeah, it's a more winter. Not anyway, but that's what it is, right? Okay, so this is K9AWI. Oh, and I have to somehow like today or tomorrow send off some peanut butter to my parents. Back to California. Anyway, K9AWI9 back to net control.
Speaker A: You know, until last week I had never seen one of the Apple Watch bands and those are pretty fascinating. Sorry to hear you're having some problems with the defective band there. Hopefully they can get it resolved for you. But yeah, I was just kind of a very neat design there. Easy on, easy off. KE9AWY AI6US and enjoy your last couple of days before you head on off to Wisconsin. We're in with Rachel and let's check in with Will. KJ5GWN. Good morning, Will.
Speaker B: Good morning, Brian. You confused my call with John. His is KW for you. Anyway, not doing too much here. It's 44 degrees here, going up to high of 63. So it is getting warmer. We are getting out of the deep freeze. The snow is all but gone from my area, so. Can't say that for North Carolina. Poor Patrick. I feel for you, guy. Charlotte got 11. Charlotte got a foot of snow last night, so not good for North Carolina. So anyway, over to you, Brian. KJ5 Golf, whiskey, November.
Speaker A: Sorry about mixing up the names and the calls there I was just feverishly writing down call signs and kind of just throwing a name beside them as I had time to fill. And I definitely messed that one up. I know who you are, Will. Of course. Well, good morning to you. Yeah, certainly looks like the east coast got slapped again a little inland as well.
Speaker D: So.
Speaker A: Yeah, they. They can't catch a break, can they? No.
Speaker B: And my. My group from New Jersey got nailed again. Supposed to start melting today, so hopefully my warm weather will transfer up to the east coast and they can get some melting and you know, just endure six more weeks and it'll all be over. So Anyway, this is KJ5 Gulf Frisk in Oma or Cliff.
Speaker A: Well, you know, good old. You know, we love our groundhogs, but you know, Phil has only been right 35% of the time, so maybe he should become my stockbroker. Have a great day, Will. KJ5GWN. Happy Monday to you there, Will. And Good morning, Jimmy. Ka3vgm. What do you have for the net this morning, Jimmy?
Speaker B: Sorry. Now, anyway, well, we missed the snow last night. It didn't snow here last night, but it's still awfully cold. It was one degree above when I got up this morning. The computer says it's five right now. I don't know if it's updating itself or not though, so I don't know if that is correct or. Anyway, it's quite cold and we're supposed to get some more snow later on in the week here in Pennsylvania, so. Looks like Phil is unfortunately right. We're going to have a bunch more winter before it gets ice. Although I hope it quits digging cold. I don't like it quite this cold. Okay, I'm back to you, Brian.
Speaker A: Well, I don't know what they did to get Phil out of his comfy den. As cold and as bitter the weather that you report back there. But yeah, he evidently wanted to get back inside pretty, pretty quickly there. Well, Jimmy, you have a wonderful day. Do stay warm and sustained, you know.01°5°. That definitely takes its toll over time, that is for sure. It's been a long cold winter for you back there. Khe3vgm ai6us. You have a good Monday. Stay Indoor. All right. Good morning. Coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater. Let's go ahead and take check ins, quick in and outs as we get our morning underway.
Speaker D: Just.
Speaker A: Just a few minutes to say good morning before you get on to your important projects du jour. I'm Brian AI6us. Welcome to Coffee Breaknet. Let's take some more chances out there this morning. Quick in and outs. N2dyi, kb6luv. Good morning, kk6am. All right, I heard three. We might have had four, but let's find out. Good morning, ray. Kk 6am good morning to brett, kb6luv, and good morning, patrick into dyi. Did I miss any? All right, up to the top. Good morning, Patrick into dyi. What do you have for the net this morning and who's digging you out?
Speaker D: Hey, good morning, Brian and everyone on the net. Yeah, we did like Will said, we got about a foot of snow here. They got a little bit more to the south of us and to the east in some cases. We got, I think just under a foot. It was like 11.5 inches or something like that. But yeah, neighbors came and cleared out the driveway yesterday. We got four people in the house and none of us are, for various reasons, in great position to do that right now. So that was. That was good.
Speaker A: Always good to have neighbors that will help out. That's awesome.
Speaker B: Well, you know, 11.5 with a plus one 10.9.
Speaker A: Yeah, just a little wind around the corner can make the difference there on that measurement. Still, that's quite a bit to handle in. In North Carolina for sure. Well, good morning, Patrick. What do you have for the net today?
Speaker D: Well, I shouldn't be here, but because of the snow that we got on Saturday, I am. I was supposed to be going to the dentist today to get a root canal and they called yesterday and they said, yeah, we're not going to be open. And I was like, yeah, I'm totally shocked about that. So they are hoping. I think they've mostly got the streets cleared and stuff, especially in Greensboro where the place is. So they are hoping to be open tomorrow, a little later tomorrow and they're going to start calling people and rescheduling stuff. So I guess I get to figure out when that's going to happen. Hopefully it'll be this week.
Speaker A: Oh, man. Hopefully this root canal, the root of it, ha ha. Is not causing you too much discomfort until that gets done.
Speaker D: It's manageable now, but it certainly was a big, big problem last week right around this time.
Speaker B: For good.
Speaker A: Probably. Yeah. I've had a couple of instances where waiting for that schedule to get in there to have it taken care of and man, there's no way to just, you know, something about tooth pain, it just travels through the whole body.
Speaker D: It's even worse when you have a headache at the same time. Oh man. Well, other than that, I guess tonight will be the all nodes and that. There was a very interesting announcement posted to the All Starlink list yesterday.
Speaker A: Okay, are you going to tease us with that or tell us to tune in this evening?
Speaker D: I might as well put it out there. It's. It's good general information. So basically they are, they are changing their node number assignment policy. So there are lots of node numbers that are not used and they're running out of usable numbers. So they're going to start on April 2nd, they're going to start reclaiming old 4, 5 and 6. Well really 5 and 6 digit node numbers that have been used in 24 months. And on top of that, this one is the more interesting one. So they're going to start randomly assigning between 20,000 and 69,999. But the more interesting thing is if you're on ham VoIP, you might want to think about not being on Ham VoIP in the next few months if you want to start connecting to some new nodes. Because they're going to start assigning node numbers starting with 7, probably in about mid-2026. And ham VoIP is hard coded to use IRLP starting for 7. It used to be that ham VoIP would cross connect with IRLP. IRLP isn't very happy about that and they kind of revoked that status a few years ago. So if you want to connect to some new node numbers and you're running Ham voip. Yeah, you probably don't want to be running Ham voip.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: A little more incentive to do the, to do the upgrade, I imagine that. Does that affect outbound only or will there be an issue resolution receiving node numbers in excess greater than 7 number?
Speaker D: I think it's mostly going to affect both. Yeah, no, I think it's going to be both because of the way it handles the node processing.
Speaker A: That's good to know because that will certainly affect us and, and kind of be the nudge that moves us forward on our system to move over to the ASL. Okay, very interesting. So yeah, HamVoIP is boy. They're either going to have to come up with some update or make some changes, but does not look good for HamVoIP. Users at this point as of. Did you say April 1st?
Speaker D: Well, they're starting the reclaiming process on April 2nd and by probably mid-2026, the sixes will be the. Well, the existing sixes will be. What's the word I'm looking for?
Speaker A: Exhausted.
Speaker B: Yes.
Speaker D: Like, like area codes. So they're going to start assigning numbers with seven, probably at the rate node number assignments are going probably about June or July. So yeah, if you can upgrade before then, I would definitely recommend it. If you're on an older Clear node though, that might be a bit of an issue because Jerry does not Support the Raspberry PI 3 Model B or the 3 Model B Plus or the 3A or the 02W for running anything other than ham VoIP.
Speaker A: Boy, that certainly is going to be possibly affecting a large group of people there. So, yes, indeed, pay attention to this announcement. So April 2, unused note numbers are going to start getting reclaimed if they haven't been used in more than. I think you said, 24 months. And ham VOIP is hard coded and a good time to be considering upgrade to ASL3. I did see someone keying up from Orland W6 GRC repeater. Did we have a comment? All right, no comment. Heard. All right, Patrick.
Speaker B: Well, very good.
Speaker A: Boy, that is big news. And I'm sure there are going to be some very unhappy people or some people trying to figure out what to do now. And that's going to be an interesting scenario for Clear Node users. Older Clear Node users, absolutely.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker D: It's really going to be fun to see what. Because a lot of the big systems are still running on Ham VoIP because of some very specific things that they're doing to the telemetry. My system still has some Ham voip stuff on it. So yeah, a bunch of people are going to have to figure something out in the next few months because otherwise, yeah, that's going to start affecting new connections. So, yeah, that's the big announcement from yesterday. I was not quite expecting that. I was kind of figuring they would eventually start reclaiming old node numbers, but didn't know they would go past six.
Speaker A: Very interesting. Also, you know, the, the, the automatic availability of us to assign our own node numbers. Well, it's been a wonderful thing. I imagine that is chewing through a lot of node numbers that probably aren't actually getting used. So yeah, hopefully they kind of look at a big, a big assignment policy. I love having sequential numbers, but, you know, I, I can see where that would shoot through a lot more than necessary. Well, thank you patrick. This evening 6:00pm Pacific. That's 9:00pm Eastern. The all Nodes Net join in for information like this and support. So if you have any questions about any type of node, whether that be All Star echo, link wires, x irlp or even mesh, drop by. This evening, 6:00pm Pacific, 9:00pm Eastern for the All Nodes Net Patrick and you have a wonderful Monday ahead. And boy, yes, I think this puts us onto a transition path sooner than later. Over to All Star 3.
Speaker D: Yeah, I would say so. Like we've talked about before, there's a bunch of stuff I want to do and I don't. I don't necessarily want to do it all at once because there's a lot. So yeah, definitely would be a good start. Oh yeah, and Raspberry PI prices just went up. I saw that the 16 gig Raspberry PI is now over $200. Thank you AI. Anyway, I guess I'll be around for the allnodesnet. Tom will be doing it tonight. So there you go. This was supposed to be a quick in and out, but that kind of broke. Whoops. 73 have a good one. AI 6 US N2DYI.
Speaker A: That is crazy. A Raspberry PI 516 gigabyte is now over $200. That memory memory is being consumed by AI. I think that's AI's plan to take over the world by depriving the rest of us memory. Kind of like politics right now. Good morning KB6 luv. Good morning Brett. Good morning Brian. And Coffee Break Net Land. Hope you're doing well. I am blessed as all can get out. The orange ball in the skies made its appearance. It's going to get up to 60 degrees today, which means I'll probably get out on Little Red. And hailing all the way from Newton, Kansas. I've got a special guest here. Well, good morning special guest from Newton, Kansas. I know who it is. Good morning Bonnie.
Speaker C: Good morning everybody on the coffee group. So it's just lovely to be here not only on the so that the mercury is on the upper side of the thermometer from Newton, but just wonderful to be here and be able to
Speaker B: talk with you all.
Speaker C: To be here with.
Speaker A: See if we can work some dx. Here
Speaker B: we 6a x n repeater.
Speaker A: Kk6vcd. Kk6vcd. Here is n6iwh calling. Standing by. Nobody home.
K6lnk system 36, snow mountain range.
Speaker A: Yes, you are. You are.
Speaker B: Yeah. Thank you so much. How is. How's my mic?
Speaker A: I had to turn my volume all the way up for you. So if you can turn that up about 25% more than what it is, that may be better.
Speaker B: All right, give me.
The gears. Monthly informal breakfast is held on the second Saturday of the month at 9am at the Farmer's Skillet, located at 690 Rio Lindo Avenue, Chico. All are welcome to attend W6RHC Repeater Check 3.
Audio level is low. Mic. Seven Tango, November, Oscar. Another audio check. One, three, four.
W e6a x n repeater.
Speaker A: And so I so enjoy listening to you all. Although I'm up have been up for a long time by the time you all go on back here. But it's wonderful to be here. So thank you for including me and it's lovely to be able to speak with you all.
Speaker B: Well, excellent. Of course. Bonnie is from Newton, Kansas and she listens in very regularly using Broadcastify the streaming and we definitely shout hello quite often your way. So great to hear your voice and so awesome that you're out here for a visit. How long will be out visiting?
Speaker A: Well, I will be here just a few days right now because I'm going on down to. To the south to Morgan Hills, my great niece's wedding and but after a few days and then I will be back up and we'll be here through the month.
Speaker B: Okay, very good. Well we look forward to you checking in again for sure. You do know that did order this weather especially for you. Normally of course blizzards and ice about here. Hey Brian. The transmission was pretty garbled. I'm not sure if there's somebody else trying to check in and stomp over you, but it sounded like some either some sort of packet loss or RF loss. Short in the mic cable. N2DYI. No short in a mic cable house. Caught the first half. The last half was cut. Okay, maybe I'll need to go to another microphone. That is odd. How about now? Still catching it. But also there's a little break in there as. Okay, now I'm on a handheld mic. How about now? Much, much better. That is odd. Okay, well I was. I don't know where I was going with that other than we are really glad that you could be here, Bonnie and glad that Brett was able to make this special order to get rid of all the ice and snow out here so you could enjoy 60 degree weather.
Speaker A: Amazing, huh?
Speaker B: Yes indeed. Okay, I'm not really sure. I'm seeing somebody some other RF coming into the repeater so I'm not sure if there's some something else going on there as well. Well Bonnie, thank you so much and wishing you well as you during your visit and please drop by again one of these mornings and we'll look forward to some more good conversations with you. Thank you very much Brian. Deeply appreciate it. Mom says thank you as well.
Speaker A: Thank you so much and yes, I will certainly be here.
Speaker B: Everybody else out in coffee break net land. Have an amazing day. Take care of yourselves, take care of each other. KB6 luv be of love. 73 clear and listening. All right. Brett, always a pleasure to have you drop by. And extra special to have Bonnie this morning. And we finally get to hear her voice.
Speaker C: So.
Speaker B: Good morning. All right, clearing with KB6LUV and guest Bonnie. Let's go ahead and check in with Ray now. KK 6:00am Good morning, Ray.
Speaker D: Good morning. I noticed we have our two guilty parties on Supermon today. K4BMI and Fireside Network.
Speaker B: Which
Speaker D: it's good because some people can use it but it's bad because there's more weird crap that comes out of it than you can imagine.
Speaker B: Well, some pretty weird crap comes out of your transmissions as well. Let's not call certain parties out unless they are causing problems here. But yeah, Fireside Network, we were getting some key ups from you this morning, so. Good morning. Ray. What sunshine and wonderful thing is happening in your life today?
Speaker D: Oh, mostly I gotta sit down and make a bunch of doctor's appointments or something like that.
Speaker B: Very good. I hope that you that those go smoothly and they don't call you in. You know, the ones that you always look for is that's good for this year. We'll see at the same time next year.
Speaker D: I don't think any of them let me have a year anymore.
Speaker B: Oh, at that point of life. I get it. Well, good morning Ray. It is a beautiful day out there. So at least you know, on your trip up there to have see the physician and such, it looks like it's going to be a beautiful day to maybe even get sidetracked.
Speaker D: Well, I'm not going up to see them. I'm just juggling some appointments and yeah, they don't like my schedule, so what can I say?
Speaker B: Well, your schedule I think is pretty open to fit in theirs, but yeah, not a good way to be starting the mornings. Absolutely. Well, happy Monday to you there. And yeah, so sorry to hear the that we're going to experience six more weeks of this.
Speaker D: I'm not even going to comment on that. Doesn't that come down to being close to religion?
Speaker B: Yeah, I definitely am appreciating this weather. Hopefully Thomas and Christina are are not being swept up in this latest weather. They might be far enough inland not to be, but. Well, very good. You have a wonderful day there, Ray, and do enjoy the beautiful day out there. Get out there and do a side trip. Treat yourself.
Speaker D: Well, I may try something. It's hard telling anyway.
Speaker B: All right, I am going to try connecting back up this microphone because I see absolutely no reason that it shouldn't be working. So handheld microphone running this net's kind Of a difficult one. Warning, one moment please. Stand by. Okay, is this still there? If you could give me some feedback. Working okay now? No, it's still there.
Speaker E: WB6BJN.
Speaker B: Okay, that's Brian. Weird voice for Ray. Ray.
Speaker D: No, you are definitely almost sounds like. Is that a condenser mic by any chance?
Speaker B: It is. I'm on my boom microphone. Is this any better?
Speaker D: Sounds good right now anyway when you were having the problem. It's just about like an open shield with the condenser mike.
Speaker B: Okay, well I can work off mike here. So thank you very much for the feedback there. All right, well hopefully the boom mic will hold through the morning. Thank you very much for the feedback and we'll get some more check ins. You have a great day, Ray.
Speaker D: Absolutely. Isn't that the way you test mic cables is you put them on with condenser mic and wiggle the cable and then it cuts in and out. 7, 3 KK6A and
Speaker C: yeah, that's kind of interesting.
Speaker B: This microphone, all it does in life is just hang around and wait for me. All right, Good morning. All right, let's go ahead and get back into regular check ins there. This is the coffee break net on the W6ek repeater. Let's go ahead and take regular check ins. If you're short on time and can only hang around for a few minutes, please, please just let me know that you need to be a quick in and out. We will put you at the top of the list. So good morning. Coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater.
Speaker F: Good morning Brian. And that Hilo Golf 6 November Limawitzki for log only for a change.
Speaker B: Okay, There is not such a thing. As for the log only until 10 o'.
Speaker F: Clock.
Speaker B: Do you want to hang around till 10 or give you in and out?
Speaker F: Do in and out because I gotta get to bed.
Speaker B: All right, well hang around because at this point you are the first one up. So yeah, we don't do, we don't do for the log till 10 o'.
Speaker D: Clock.
Speaker B: So we're not a. We're not for the numbers here. All right, we have Frank. Who else is out there? We're taking regular check ins and in and outs. Good morning brian. Wb6bjnko6th good morning. All right, good morning Greg. KO6th and good morning to Mark, WB6BJN. And good morning to Daniel N9N MUF. And let's go ahead and head on up and see what, what Frank is up to before he turns. Well, until he climbs back into his den. KG6 in LW. Good morning. What do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker F: Good morning Brian. Hopefully my audio is not too bad. I'm trying to stay two fists away from the microphone here.
Speaker B: Just got off work and got to
Speaker F: the motel right away, which was a rare occurrence for us. Gonna take a quick six, eight hour nap, something like that. Well, maybe 10 hours. No, not 10 hours at this point, but something like that. A little bit of the coffee break. Nick got out to the live stream this morning. It got turned over on all star at 7:40.
Speaker B: So a little bit of a coffee
Speaker F: break net was out there on the Internet this morning. You can find it over on KG6NLWS, YouTube and other social media. Other than that, Brian, not much. I'll have a great day and we'll
Speaker D: catch you another time.
Speaker F: AI 6 US kg 6 no value 70 Gary Brian, have a great day.
Speaker B: Well, of course we're off on the Internet every day. We of course are on Broadcastify. So any favorite streaming app, in fact, that's how Bonnie, who you just heard, check in a few minutes ago, listens in from Newton, Kansas. So thank you, Frank. We'll check it out. And yeah, I saw that Coffee Breaknet had made it onto somebody else's YouTube channel the other day. Always kind of interesting to find sprinkled around the Internet. Well, enjoy your quick nap and your turnaround there and hope that you have a Wonderful Monday ahead. KG6NLW AI6US73.
Speaker F: You're a day early and a dollar short, Brian. It's a Tuesday for me now. Catch you later.
Speaker B: Yes, indeed. Good day to you, sir and good morning, daniel. N9 muf.
Speaker E: Good morning Brian and the net. I'll go ahead and register my grumble. We've got a cloudy and chilly day here in Chicagoland, so I can't say that while the sun is shining, we're just not going to be able to see it today.
Speaker B: Is that going to prevent you from getting out and doing anything or what side of the door will that keep you on and what projects you're working on?
Speaker E: I'm going to stay on this side of the door. I finally got that paddle built so I'm starting to get a feel for it. I need to check its continuity on a couple of cables and just want to get, as I said, get the feeling for a path switch. That and also I kind of want to stay close to my wife. Today it is the anniversary of us meeting in person and that was back in 2020 or 2003. So we have been together now for quite a while. And given that it's that Anna Ryo sink of Groundhogs Day and my wife kind of going together. So I want to curl up with her, settle in with her on the couch and watch Groundhog stay together and celebrate quite a few years together.
Speaker B: Well, that's an awesome thing. So what got you out? What? What should I. I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't ask this. If it's not suitable for work, let me know. But were you out observing to see if Phil saw his shadow and you looked past the shadow and your eyes met?
Speaker E: No, we actually, for those of you who might remember irc, we were in the same IRC channel together and we just kind of started talking and meeting or, you know, talking with each other a lot in the channel and kind of started to touch base privately and we said, well, maybe we should meet in person and see if some of this energy is going to exist in real life. And it did, and it still does.
Speaker B: Well, it doesn't sound like there's going to be any six more weeks of winter at your house.
Speaker E: No, absolutely not. It's been an absolutely happy. I guess she'd do the math. 24 years, so looking forward to 24 and more with her Mike. Play some of those ukuleles. Given it's National Ukulele Day, I will actually admit to owning ukuleles.
Speaker B: You know, I need to dig through my photos. I try to think if I put this up on social media a couple years ago, but yeah, have a picture taken from way back in probably 1982. 83. With who do you associate with ukulele?
Speaker E: For me it's george harrison.
Speaker B: Oh, it's tiny tim.
Speaker C: Brief comment?
Speaker B: Yeah, there was a comment.
Speaker D: Go ahead.
Speaker B: Hi guys.
Speaker C: I've just been reading the mail kw4u and I didn't get the call sign of the guy. You know this. This could be Ko4, Ko68. If not, correct me, but I just had to chime in because, boy, that is almost exactly reminiscent of my situation. It was May 11th of 03. Don't get into all particulars, but it was with an online situation and that's where my now wife and I met. So it's an equivalent period of time. Took me a few opportunities to get it right, but my God, you know, Emily's a doll. And it was that same online thing and believe me, neither of us were looking. Okay, won't hold it. I just had a reaction. Stories are so similar. KW for you,
Speaker B: Irc. At least you guys were communicating on a different level now. The Internet is more just swipe left, swipe right. Very instantaneous rather than built on actual interaction. Yep, very good there, John. Well, Daniel, there we go. Irc. Then you took it to the private irc and then we know where it went from there. Ukulele? Yes. Tiny Tim. I have a photo with Tiny Tim. He was a guest on a TV show that I worked on early on when I first got into film and television.
Speaker E: You're right that he's the first person that tends to come to mind for most people. For me, it's always been George Harrison, though. And that's the concert for George.
Speaker B: Then, of course, the big Hawaiian dude comes to mind as well. I did not know this. Do you know the origin of the ukulele? It was not from Hawaii.
Speaker E: I do not know it, but I had a feeling it was not Hawaii origin.
Speaker B: Yeah, I was going to look it up here quickly. I was just reading through this morning. I thought you would help me out here. I'll look it up again. I think it was definitely from Europe. Let me look it up here.
Speaker E: Oh, my guess would be Spain or Portugal then.
D.
Speaker A: Let's see it. Actually, Madeira. So speck of land in the Atlantic, southwest of Portugal. So pretty darn close to Portugal, maybe because. Well, I was going to say maybe Madeira doesn't have many trees and so they made small guitars. But no, it says here that Madera actually was a heavily forested land. So maybe they just like traveling light,
Speaker B: Which makes perfect sense. I know a lot of people like it for that. Now, my frustration with a lot of people picking up the ukulele is, if you will, the lack of attention paid to it. Well, it's only got four strings, so it's going to be easier than a guitar, and I don't really have to work at it. And then again, you see the ukulele, the people who really know how to and how to play a ukulele and are willing to put the time into it. And to me, it just feels like a fundamental disrespect for the instrument. Yeah.
Speaker A: Kind of like the kazoo. No, it was quite interesting, you know, to see over the past 15 plus years of how ukulele entered into the country music scene.
Speaker B: That does make sense. My goal would be to use ukulele on a heavy metal song since three of my UKes have pickups and it sounds quite interesting if I run it
Speaker A: through the big muff fuzz filter. Yeah, but you know, when you're out there smashing something on stage, it just doesn't have the same impact.
Speaker B: In this case, quite literally.
Speaker A: You're on my wavelength today. Oh, very good, Mark. Excuse me, Mark. I'm looking up who's next here.
Speaker B: Very good, Daniel.
Speaker A: This microphone thing got me kerfuffled. I'm going.
Speaker C: Okay.
Speaker A: Why would a microphone just quit working? Well, yeah, you're in music. You know why? Just because.
Speaker B: More times than I can count.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker B: No, today is just going to be a day of some rest, as I said, spending time with my wife, but some cleanup. I've got a few things with radio that I need to dot the I and cross the T on. I've been going over the slides for the classes I'll be teaching on the floor, and I need to start reviewing the slides again for the 21st class. For some odd reason, the club tagged me to teach all the digital sections. I have no idea why.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, why did Mikey always get stuck testing the ceremony there?
Speaker B: That and, boy, speaking of that, I can't think of anybody who even. Do they even sell that anymore?
Speaker C: I don't know.
Speaker A: Mikey liked.
Speaker C: Was.
Speaker B: It was okay. It wasn't something I absolutely went nuts for. But I should let it get on to Mark. I also know that he needs to tag out in time for a net. It's always a pleasure to listen to his weather, even though I will universally blame him for any of the bad weather we're having at the moment. So, Mark, the lack of sunshine today, it's all on you. 7:3 to you, Mark and the net. And Brian and the net. N92f.
Speaker A: Okay, you got me. You got me wondering. I've never bought Life cereal myself, but it got me if it was still being made. And yeah, it's Quaker Oaks company supposedly is still making Life cereal. Maybe somebody out there. This is part of your regular intake. But yes, the most started out with the original slogan, the most useful protein ever ready to eat cereal. No wonder they went over to Mikey like.
Speaker B: Can't blame him for that. Definitely stuck around in our minds, that's for sure. I should ask my wife next time she goes to the store to see if she can grab a box and see if it still tastes like I remember. But with that again, 7:3. Looking forward to Mark's weather report. Always applied pleasure. N 9:73 Brian. And I'll get my head screwed on straight this morning. N9MUF
Speaker A: all right, well, enjoy that anniversary of meeting and you have a wonderful day. And. And yeah, I'm gonna watch Groundhog myself. It's one of those movies that there aren't many out there that I'll watch more than once, but I probably up into the dozens of times for that one. Always brings a chuckle. Kind of predictable. N9MUF AI6US Coffee Breaknet Good morning, Mark. WB6BJN.
Speaker C: Hey, good morning, Brian. And good morning to Bonnie out there. Good morning to Daniel too. Hey, Daniel. I got shoulders. I'm. I'm it for the weather. I. I got shoulders. And I think you're doing a great thing today, spending that with your lovely wife who you met. And you know, I spend that time with Sarah when we met in. We met in May and May 15th is our big day, so. And we didn't meet online though, so. And. She's put up with me for about 17 years. That's.
Speaker A: That's a.
Speaker C: That's a mission and a half. And Brian, this must be the week for procedures. The only difference with mine tomorrow is I have to prepare for it today. So I think you know where we are there. Go ahead
Speaker A: to that stage of life where we pick those by the blood flow in their hands and the size of their knuckles. Oh, my. This sounds lovely. I will not have everybody key up and wish you the best, but we're all kind of moaning and glad it's you.
Speaker C: Yeah. Glad it's me and not you. Right. Oh, well, it'll go. I'll get a nap tomorrow, so that'll, you know, hopefully I won't even know when it happens. It'll just give me a thing in the IV and you know, lights out. And next thing I'll wake up and say, have we done it yet? You know, so. Oh, so anyway, that's the deal. Let's talk about the weather. The weather is. And I might have some good news for you, Daniel, because there's some indication that after this week there may be a major pattern shift. And what that involves. You know, there's been high pressure all over the western United Or. Yeah, western United States for the past almost months. Let me take a break. And off the east coast, and that's what's opened the door for the Arctic air, you know, to continuously batter the south and part of the East. And the Carolinas just got. Just got. Just inundated with snow. It's amazing. Places that don't normally even get snow
Speaker A: had
Speaker C: 8, 10 inches close to a foot like Patrick and you know, it's just. And then there was other places in the Carolinas that were under what they call a dry slot and they didn't get any. So that's the deal. And yeah, a lot of the Midwest today is under cloudy skies. Could be some flurries, could be there's another clipper system coming through much of the Midwest. Could even affect you guys later today and tonight and another one Thursday and Friday. But we to see what's happening. And that's because high pressure continues to be the dominant feature over the West. And as long as there's high pressure over the west, that continues the active, colder weather over the Midwest, east, east and South. So there's. They're connected. But what we think is going to happen along about the 8th, which would I think would be next Sunday. Yeah, that's Super Bowl. Let me take a break. The pattern could under. And a lot of the offices are even are starting to talk about this and the models are starting to show that there could be a pattern shift. So basically, high and low pressure positions change. The low deepens off the west coast from the eastern Pacific and high pressure builds in over the Eastern Sea and middle United States, blocking the arctic flow from coming down. And it could warm up. And what that would mean for some of us is that we become warmer and wetter Especially in the mid south we start getting like wood like spring where we get the severe weather, thunderstorms and that could even affect you but it will get warmer and there would be periods of nice weather. But there's also that price to pay that it could get wet from rain and maybe start doing some thunderstorms like early spring. So we'll see how that works out. We're warmer here this morning but looking at California there's going to be more fog in the San Joaquin Valley, Brian, where it isn't foggy it's going to be nice and clear and that will last all the way through at least. And then maybe Sunday things start to change to where a low pressure drops down into California and the western United States bringing it would be what we call a long wave trough and that's where that pattern shift would take place starting and could last through the end of February. You need rain and you need some snow out there or you guys are going to be for drought. It seems like every new year that there's a. When we're in a La Nina situation California shuts down its rain and snowfall and you're in that pattern right now. Back to you there Brian. WB6BJ
Speaker A: well I'll tell you if this is the pattern that I could stay in I would take it every day of the week. Blue skies, the sunshine is out. I know it's not going to last but. Yeah, I don't know if you were earlier observation but he's already started trimming and I was just noticing out by my truck this weekend I just over the side. Brayton's observation is we sure don't have much snow in the mountains yet.
Speaker C: Brian. I'm beginning to wonder it's not all that microphone. If you've changed microphones you're having almost the same problem with your audio. I don't know if you went back to the original microphone but it's, it's, there's still some break it up in your audio there. Go ahead.
Speaker B: I think somebody was doubling with him that time.
Speaker A: Alrighty. Yeah, I, I'm wondering because I noticed somebody was doubling with me last time somebody reported a. So okay, you know I am on the boom microphone, the, the, the condenser headset, boom microphone. And I'm running low power, maybe I need to bump it up so nobody stands a chance.
Speaker C: Yeah, I don't know if it's happening on my signal. I'm running 50 milliwatts through a note so I don't know but that's Just, it's. It's weird. But that took. When you upped your power, that helped.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. I'm running 20 watts right now, so that should get over about anybody who wants to get into this. Into the voter. Anyway, back over to you there. See, my comment was, you know, the. That we're having right now is so enjoyable. Stay this way. But, yeah, going into summer months, we're already starting the need to trim our grass, the weeds, and we just don't have any snow up in the mountains.
Speaker C: Well, we're in a La Nina pattern and, and La Nina patterns do this. Even though it was a weak one. I was, I was concerned that after New Year's that. It seems like I can. I can almost bet that after New Year's, after we. We had a wet fall and then all the way in, and after New Year's, boom, it got dry. Here we are. And I've seen this happen time and time again. Even when I lived in California, it was like that. And the same thing kind of happened this year, but hopefully next week things will change. I'm hoping that it does. Wet here. We only had 1.56 inches of rain in the month of January, and 1.56 inches of rain for Clarksville, Tennessee, in January is way below normal. We had more Snow. We had 2 inches. We had 3 inches of snow and 2 inches of sleet, but only 1.56 inches of rain. So I'm hoping for more rain here in February and less cold weather. I could use some warmer weather, and I think Daniel could, too. Maybe we'll bring him some good enough weather that he can maybe get on the ride or go do a park on the air in February.
Speaker B: Go ahead.
Speaker A: Well, what are we. What are we going to be expecting here out of the. I'm trying to remember. I don't think they got a nor'. Easter. I know they got quite a weather pattern that moved in off the Atlantic to the eastern states. So what's. What's going to happen with that? Is that moving back to the. Back to the east or what's those. I know it hit a lot of places pretty darn hard. Don't know if it made it in as far as you.
Speaker C: No, that storm basically hit the Carolinas. Okay. It really didn't even hit the east coast too hard. This particular system. The people that really got hit were, believe it or not, the Carolinas and all the way to Florida. Florida didn't get any spot and they didn't get much precip, but they got some really cold temperatures, but a lot of the eastern seaboard itself, it didn't really come up the coast. It kind of went offshore. They might have gotten a little bit in New York and parts of New Jersey, but the precip was real thin. The big stuff really hit the Carolinas. And then I think it's, it's really gone offshore. It's not snowing anymore, but it's very cold. It's colder in the south, in the extreme southeastern part of the United States than it is here. We're above freezing right now and I got a trace of snow on Saturday and that was it. But temperatures were in the teens. We've had some, but we've got enough of our problems still here. Over 100 people have died in the mid south from storm related cold related stuff. And the schools have been out here for a week because there's been snow and ice and we still have snow and ice on the ground. But hopefully today it's supposed to get up to 45 and start some melting here. But our driveway is clear and that's good there. Go ahead.
Speaker A: All right, I see where a warning is out for South Florida for falling iguanas. You know that it's cold down there. Collection centers are opened up. I saw a great TV thing last night that down in Palm Beach.
Ready? Lift up.
Speaker A: E9d and R connected,
Speaker B: Disconnected.
Speaker A: System12 link up. Anyone out there? Got
Speaker B: a fog report down by Coalinga.
Speaker A: I'm not showing any fog and concerns.
Speaker B: Great. Thanks. It indicates 60 degrees and sunny.
Speaker A: Had a 4.2 earthquake about two hours ago.
Speaker A: Collection centers for people who are picking up iguanas that have kind of gone to sleep. Yeah.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker C: Okay, Brian. Yeah, whatever's happening is, is still happening. Well, your audio was way it was there but it was very low and it was real crackly. Tried to come up and go back down.
Speaker A: Hey man, good to, good to talk to you, Brian.
Speaker C: Hopefully this stuff will go away on your, on your signal and it's a shame that it's happening, but love your, you do a great job on the net. Happy Groundhog's Day and everybody have a great day. And Brian, I'll turn it back to you so you can get on down the list. WB6BJN. Thanks for think I'll I'll see you guys.
Speaker A: Hopefully Wednesday,
Speaker C: not tomorrow. Won't be here tomorrow. WB6BJN.
Speaker D: All right, Mark, good luck to you tomorrow and let me see if I can hear what's going on here.
Speaker C: Huh?
Speaker D: Well, I don't know what's, what's going on with the signal there. I am RF into the system just so maybe I can get some feedback here from Jerry WA6E here in a second. I'm going to call on him next. Mark, you have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking in this morning. Thank you for the updates on the weather. And tell you what, I'm first going to go over to Greg and then we'll maybe try sorting this out. Good morning Greg. K06th. Hopefully I'm making it through.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker D: Good morning, Brian.
Speaker A: Good morning everyone. Greg Ko6th I was listening on the input and your audio definitely tipped out almost nothing. It was not interference. It was on, on, on your signal.
Speaker D: So you're fine this past this last
Speaker A: go around here just now. But yeah, when it went out when. Mark was referring to yeah, you're single just the RF was solid but the audio was almost nil. So I think Patrick was right. Sounds like a shortened cable somewhere someplace. Anyway, back to you for make sure that you got things straightened out there and then I'll come back.
Speaker D: Yeah, I have no idea what's going on there, but I will be wiggling cables and resetting cables here.
Speaker B: So.
Speaker D: Yeah, well, very good you weren't able to join us for the Fox Hunt on Saturday, but great to see you at the breakfast. And what did you do this past weekend?
Speaker A: Yeah, sorry about the lack of Fox Hut, but we had my kids were in town down in Lincoln so I breakfast up here and then gathered my stuff and headed on down to Lincoln. Hung out with them for the day, had a great dinner and Yeah, a cool weekend with the family. Let's see, yesterday was yard work. You mentioned weeds and stuff. Already got the weed eater out the string line thing and gingerly mowed around the daffodils that are coming up. I don't think I necked too many of them, but here. Yeah, it's getting thick up there up by the sidewalk. And so between that and some other pruning, filled my one trash can, one a week is all we ask. And got that taken care of along with other chores around the house. And I had dinner with a previous neighbor who moved back into the. Not this neighborhood, but the one adjacent has entered with them. And she mentioned that she likes to go to a restaurant up in Mina Vista. The Tin Lamp, she called it. She seems to really like that. So at some point we'll head up there for dinner. Anyway, today is. There's plenty of stuff around the shack. Updated the firmware on the meter that I've got the Zoe whatever it is, the 703. So that's now working really better. And what else? Oh, and then of course we have the V session tonight. Looking forward to a burger. So on with that T gage.
Speaker D: All right, Greg, I'm going to just do a quick transmission, make sure I'm making it through okay.
Speaker A: That was fine. KO60H. Go ahead.
Speaker D: Yeah, I think I have a little ground loop going on now. I did a quick, quick rewire. Well, very good. Yeah, Tin Lantern. Great, great restaurant here in town. A restaurant that just really hadn't made it. They had been through probably four different. Five different owners since we've lived here in the last 13 years. And I think they finally got the menu right and kind of fits the community. It's the people that own that also own that sports bar that opened up down at the old Sizzler.
Speaker A: What is that one? McGee's Maguires. McSomethings. Yeah, I haven't tried that one at all, but okay. Well, it sounds like it's worth going up to Commander IPS some point, but yeah, we have plenty of restaurants down here. And I told her about the. What is it, Roosters we're going to tonight. So at some point I gotta actually eat here. I've got food in the fridge that could just get up and walk away if I don't eat it pretty soon. So anyway, I haven't made any progress on the nasty power supply that's on the bench splayed open and. Oh, geez, I guess we'll start working on that again. Anyway, boat grounding. Questions? I Have outstanding that I'm trying to get answered in terms of what to do. What's there right now is fine, just that they need to do an upgrade and there's interactions between the elci, the boat level ground fault interrupter and inverters. If you put an inverter in the system, they tend to fight with each other in terms of grounding and that's not good in terms of safety. So doing some research on that. Anyway, on with the week today. We'll talk to you tomorrow. Ko6th all right, Greg.
Speaker D: Well, very good. I will look forward to seeing you and everyone else for the VE session this evening and a great dinner at Brewster. So anyone out there, if you're in the greater Sacramento area and you want to just get together and have a great dinner meal with some fellow hams, come on out this evening. 5pm Brewster's Burgers. Brewster's Burgers up in Auburn. It's Highway 80I 80 and Forest Hill exit right near there. Brewst Brewster's burgers 5pm and just drop on by for a social time. You don't need to come out to the VE session or be an Elmer or anything. So yeah, we normally have several. Just drop in, hang out with fellow hams for having a dinner. But we'll see you this evening for the VE session. Looks like we have a good turnout and yeah, always, always great time to be involved bringing new people into the hobby and providing upgrade path to upgrade. So 7 3. Have a wonderful day. Enjoy the sky and the sunshine.
Speaker A: 7373 Brian Ko 68
Speaker D: WA 6E Good morning, Jerry. Is the audio any better now?
Speaker B: I've.
Speaker D: I've moved jacks around, I've removed humbuckers. I've done a lot of stuff. WA6E, are you there?
Speaker B: Yeah. Good morning Brian and Everybody. This is WA6E. Yeah, I walked in just a little bit ago and you were kind of breaking up, but looking at it, you were full squash on the mountaintop receiver RF wasn't an issue. It sounded to me like if you were mobile, I would have said you were going over bumps. It's sounded like a disruption of the audio path somehow like a loose plug or something like that that needed to be reseated. I sent you a little audio. Did you listen to it?
Speaker D: No, unfortunately. Too many things in motion this morning. But I'll definitely listen to it after the net. But yeah, very odd. Everything is very stable, you know, from the microphone that hangs in front of my face to every wire going into the radio. So I guess that's why it's called amateur radio. Amateur hour. Good morning. What did you and Theta do this weekend? Anything fun?
Speaker B: Well, yeah, it is called amateur radio because none of us are professionals. Just maybe with a few exceptions. And no, you're sounding fine now you. I guess wiggling your plugs was all it took and everybody knows that that happens. Oh, and let's see. This morning, Paksutawney fail shadow or didn't or whatever. Six months more of winter. So it doesn't really affect us. This weekend we went down to the Sacramento home and Landscape show at Cal Expo. We have over the years done everything we needed to do do to our house. You know, we don't need to upgrade our kitchen again or put on new patio covers or new hardwood floors and stuff, but we thought we'd go anyway. And we went down there, walked through all the. All the distributions and the contractors and so forth. And I told that this would probably be the last time we go to this. We simply didn't need anything. Was it that was there. But it was well attended. So I was glad to see that there is some economic life in the Sacramento Valley
Speaker D: or people booking time there because they need to bring some more business in. I had a couple friends who were displaying down there. One that does window upgrades and restorations, et cetera, and another one who does. Does the exterior siding and remod like that. And I know one of them, the window guy has looked pretty hard for business.
Speaker B: Oh, well, maybe it's not as flourishing as I thought. Maybe this show will increase his trade a little bit. But when you don't need new windows, you don't need new windows. And that's kind of the bottom line. Other than that, we're slowly, and I emphasize slowly taking stuff out of the motorhome. Golly, we accumulated a lot of stuff in there. You know, you pull off somewhere along the road and they're selling T shirts. So of course you have to buy one and you have to have two. One to keep in the motorhome, one to keep in the house. And you know, it's just amazing the amount of stuff that we've accumulated. And it's kind of a sad task. Either one of us are ripping into it, but we're slowly but surely getting her done. As Larry the cable guy says. We'll see you tonight. We enjoy Brewsters and looks like you got four or five candidates. Boy, you're generating. You're generating new hams by the dozens. That's great.
Speaker D: Yep. And we have some radios to give away. Scott YNE had given us a bunch of radios to give out. So this evening we'll be to the new licensees as soon as they get a award of their license. We have a few HT's to give away, so that's always kind of cool as well. What a great way to celebrate. One of my favorite things in the entire hobby is being involved with the amateur radio exams. And just so much positive energy happens at those events. Well, look forward to seeing you for dinner and then maybe over. Well, not maybe. We'll see you over at the. At the VE session as well. And we really appreciate you and theta being involved. Think of how much better fuel mileage you would have gotten had you not been hauling all this extra stuff around for this many years. I mean, we're talking. Boy, thousands of dollars of fuel savings could have been had if you had only known you had this much stuff in there.
Speaker B: That brought some laughter here. I'm not sure if I'm laughing at you or with you, because I think there is some truth in that. When I drive up through Oregon, whether it's on 101 or 5, they have the commercial scales, everybody, they pull the trucks over and weigh them, and when
Speaker A: they're not open, they keep the scale on.
Speaker B: And it has a digital readout you can see from the driver's position. So every time we go up there, there's one or two of them we drive through every time we make a note. And over the years, we've had this motorhome 19 years, you can see this trend just slowly drifting up a little bit at a time that slopes from the lower left to the upper right as the weight goes up and up and up. So what you're saying is very true, and I guess this is one way to force us to get rid of some of the weight. But, yeah, we might have saved some gasoline, some diesel fuel. Who knows? Anyway, we'll see you tonight. Looking forward to it. It's always great fun. Seven three is Brian. And you're sounding good.
Speaker D: Now.
Speaker B: I haven't heard any interruption in the audio of this transmission. And I heard you on the input, too, and you sound good there. WA60. How do you go?
Speaker D: It always amazes me that between your house and mine that we have a simplex path. You know, there are so many mounds of granite between you and I, and I'm down in a basin up here in the foothills. It never ceases to amaze me. I can always hear you when you're on simplex as well. One of those magical things about rf. Well, good morning to you. Thank you so much for the feedback on the audio. And yeah, I just, I humbucker in line. Humbucker basically helps remove some. Some audio artifacts when I have multiple radios hooked up at the same time. And I just took that out of line and I may have a bad jumper there. So one of those things that's supposed to fix your audio actually probably was hurting it. Have a great day, Jerry. We'll see you later on today. And just an encouragement to everybody out there, if you're not involved in your local VE program your amateur radio exams, highly recommend you check it out, see what you can do to get involved. To administer amateur radio exams. It is so easy now with the, you know, with electronics, you can give the test on tablets, you can give it on laptops, and it is so easy to submit. And it used to be literally hours of time that it would take people to put their binders and their jelly check list the transparencies and everything else that used to be necessary to that.

Speaker A: Pretty good for an old man. Pete, how are things in Chico?
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, I have a couple complaints about getting old. You know, people say, how you doing? I go, oh, getting old. But that really doesn't, you know, tell the story of the pain, the discomfort, the hassles at the medical place on and yada da, yada da, you know.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah, I'm very familiar with it. I'll be 83 in June. So that tells a story right there. How old are you, Pete?
Speaker B: 79. Everybody says I don't look 79. Even the doctors. I go over here and see these tenlo and they say, oh, yeah, you look 60. He looks 65. Well, you know what? I feel 80. And, you know, some of these doctors here, they won't work on you after you turn 80.
Speaker A: Yeah, you're neg negligible after 80.
Speaker B: Well, I asked the guy, I said, what? What's the deal? And he said, well, the recovery. You know, most men, by the time they're 80, they got quite a bit, you know, other stuff wrong.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's just like a car, you know, some people love classic cars. My favorite car was the gto, the Pontiac.
Speaker B: And
Speaker A: I don't think there's many of them left around anymore. They're still running.
Speaker B: You lost your sight, is that correct?
Speaker A: That is true. Ever since I was nine years old.
Speaker B: Oh, wow. You know, ham radio guys, they make a joke sometimes when, you know, they talk to another ham and they find out that he's blind and, you know, they're talking and stuff, and the guy will always say, well, gee, you don't sound blind.
Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know what that sounds like.
Speaker B: Yeah, Really, I don't know. Well, you know, I've known a few. They call themselves okay. I mean, but, you know, they love ham radio. It's a place where they can go and get on. They don't really. You don't need to see what's out there. They can talk to people. Work hf.
Speaker A: Well, I love radio, period. My first radio was an airline, Bakelite, Chase Montgomery wars radio that my parents gave me when they bought a new one. And it had 20 meters and 75 meters on it. And that's what introduced me to AMP radio.
Speaker B: Well, you also work the code, right?
Speaker A: Yeah, I've been using code all my life, Pete. I enjoy code because I can sit and eat or drink and just work my hand and still be on ham radio.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, Yeah. I passed the General code. Back in the day it was 13 words a minute. You know I had to hunker down and practice a little bit it but I'm trying to get it where I can just listen and kind of get the gist of the conversation. I'm not quite there yet.
Speaker A: Just keep it up Pete. I, I operate around 20 words a minute and you know I could bear down and probably do 30 but who am I going to find to talk to at that speed? 20 words a minute is comfortable for me and I don't care to do any better than that.
Speaker B: Well what kind of keyer did you use? Did you like a venture or did you use a bug?
Speaker A: I've got a bug, a gold plated bug that I bought from Fresh Fred Honnold up in Pioneer years ago and it's a beautiful buck. Got it all balanced out. But I also use a keyer, electronic keyer. I have a Scotia paddle that I use that was given to me by a good friend in Lumen and they're a rare thing now too.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, I like, I like paddle. I've got a MFJ and it works. Hey, you know I was getting out there. My biggest DX was working Australia on 10 meters which was pretty amazing. I mean I heard this guy and he was so loud, you know you could hear the needle pin when it went bump, you know and I had to ask him to repeat, repeat qth he spelled out Queensland, Australia.
Speaker A: Yeah, my favorite contact was Imdefound Mongolia. The Guy's call was JT1 Alpha November and that was back 15 years ago but yeah, I worked in Monster.
Speaker B: Well do you run into guys that are using the computer and just typing or using the device?
Speaker A: No, no, I prefer just working somebody the old fashioned way. Key to.
Speaker B: Well that's what I run into. The guys are so fast and so good, you know and I mean perfect code. I don't think they're pounding the paddle.
Speaker A: Could be the skier you know cranked up pretty fast. My keyer can put out up to 50 words a minute.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, you know but you don't really find many that fast. That's, that's full bore.
Speaker A: Really? Yes. Like I always say, who you going to find to talk to at that speed? And it's the same way with amplifiers, you know, if you can't hear the person, how can you work them? They might be able to hear you but you can't hear them. It doesn't make sense to me.
Speaker B: W E6A X N repeater um, help. I think we talked about it once. You're grounding, grounding there in the house. You told me something about a pretty elaborate system for all your ground. Is this true?
Speaker A: Well, when I put in my tower, I went down 8 1/2ft, 4ft square, built a used 3 quarter inch rebar and built a cage in there. And then I used J bolt to suspend from the template and poured in four and a half yards of concrete. Before I poured in the concrete, I went down in the bottom of that hole and drove in four copper wires rods. They were each about 8ft long. I was driving it into damp, sandy bottom and that's what I used for my ground system. I ran a track up to the top of the hole before I poured the concrete.
Speaker B: Okay, well, should your ham radio stuff be grounded with the house electrical ground?
Speaker A: I've never done that. I'm grounded totally independent of the house.
Speaker B: Actually, that makes better sense. And I think you know your signal, if you're trying to work, you know, real weak stations, you can't have any noise or buzzes or, you know, that kind of stuff.
Speaker A: Yeah, when I re remodeled the kitchen a number of years ago, they put in these rocker switches and dimmer switches and they're notorious for rf. So if I'm on the air and I've got a lot of hash on there, I go around the house, check all the twitches that usually smears with us.
Speaker B: Hey, even when I lived up on Oregon Hill Road, on Challenge, I could hear stations, you know, even scanning stuff from the Bay Area and stuff like that. But you could work people because you could hear them. No noise really. But, you know, down here there's buzzing. It's chico, you know, Central Chico. Plus I got somebody who, they come home and they turn something on.
Speaker A: Please,
Speaker B: what is that? I think what it is is, I don't know, something like a neon bulb or something out of wax.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's famous for that. But television, computers, The lighting system for marijuana growers, those produce a lot of hash.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, well, you know, that's big business. Now, they've got a few of those places around here. And, you know, you look at the parking lot, it's full of really nice cars. You know, actually there's the older crowd. They like edibles. Okay, what. What are you doing? But they use it for pain. I don't know, I. I don't think I want to fly that direction. But my sister takes them. The one she just orders off of Amazon. The gummy bears with thp. She says they help.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, the only thing I use for pain is Tylenol, and I've got real serious problems with arthritis, but I can handle the pain. That's no big deal. I want to go out of this world still thinking straight, and I don't know how on earth I could do that if I depended on other types of painkillers.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, well, you know, the DOJ is actually watching doctors pharmacies, you know, because of so many people dying off of fentanyl. So, you know, a lot of doctors don't want to write for that stuff anyway. And low hospital, you know, you go in and have surgery, you're pretty much numb, but they don't give you anything for pain to take. Oh, I'm going. Wait a minute. What's wrong with this picture?
Speaker A: No, I've been going through some procedures in Kaiser. They offer, you know, opioids, and I don't want anything to do with it, so. But I'm on a. An oral chemo right now called lymphedema, which is really a high, really a high pressure type drug. But I'm tolerating it. Okay. I'm keeping my blood pressure down. I've lost £20, so I'll go with it as long as necessary.
Speaker B: You got family? You got people there helping you.
Speaker A: My dear wife, been my wife for 62 years. And my children are all in Utah and Idaho. I've got a daughter and a daughter that lives in South Jordan, Utah. I've got a daughter that lives in Boise, Idaho. I've got a son that lives in El Paso, Texas. And I've got another son that lives in Hiram, Eco.
Speaker B: Hey, well, you're not short on family, that's for sure. But, you know, I. I know what people talk about, the older crowd, you know, when they say you feel like you're alone, you know, there's no help. Yeah, I understand that, you know, and. Yeah, but I feel like I'm hanging in there. I have a belief system I don't want to tell you, you know, Christian, whatever, I mean, that's your business. But my mom was a Bible thumper and she never shoved it at you. But I used her as an example, you know, I mean, she took it into dried and, you know, everything was died, really died in a good way.
Speaker A: That's good.
Speaker B: That's a great thing.
Speaker A: You're not supposed to be embarrassed about mentioning religion to me, Pete, because I think we've all got a little bit of that in it. Everybody does. And whether people or not, we're all related because we're all part of the family of man. So anyway, I'm from a very large family up there in Brownville and challenged in that area. I've still got lots of relatives up there, but many of the ones have gotten older and passed on. My aunts and uncles, cousins, grandparents had nothing to break memories with my childhood, my youth.
Speaker B: Yeah, you know, I have as yet to get up to that graveyard. I was going to go and look around. You know the Xyl, she's the still going up to Brownsville. There's a little heart heart show they have once a month across from the Gold Eagle. And hey, one time I tried a corn dog from the Gold Eagle. Oh, it was good. Oh, went back tried one. Oh man. Oh, this is awful dry. I thought I was having a bad dream. But anyway, usually they have these really good corn dogs. W E6A X N receiver.
Speaker A: Oh, that's a try one next time I'm up there, Pete. Anyway, my one of my brothers lives over in the trailer park over there by the airport. Errol Pines. My brother Monty, he's retired federal law enforcement. I mean yeah. And my brother Art is in Dayton, Nevada. My other brother Dwight lives at Brownsville right across from the right across from that Kingdom Falls right there along the highway. My brother lives kind of up on the hill, white but.
Air.
D.
Speaker A: You know, my mom and dad have passed on.
Speaker B: My grandparents, we were all a very,
Speaker A: very close family and so I grew up there. But those people are missing, so not to thank.
Speaker B: Are you going to be buried up at Brown Hill?
Speaker A: Yeah, we've already got our flat purchased there in Brownville Cemetery. That's for my family for years back
Speaker B: have been buried there. My grandfather and grandmother are both buried there. My aunt and uncle, cousins, my oldest
Speaker A: son is buried there, and my mother
Speaker B: and father in law are buried there.
Speaker A: My wife, brother and sister in law are buried there.
Speaker B: So, yeah, a lot of family there. Yeah, you're getting a little bit scratchy on that last one. Did you change something?
Speaker A: No, but this microphone cord might be a little suspicious. How's that sound?
Speaker B: You know, sometimes I've had that when the radio gets hot.
Speaker A: I can probably turn the power down on this thing. I'm running 50 watts into this chinwid.
Speaker B: It's an old, old chinwid.
Speaker A: So let me lower the power and see what happens there. I'm down to 10 watts.
Speaker B: Well, not much difference. I mean, you're into, you're into the machine. While there was kind of crackling sound and I was not able to hear everything you were saying.
Speaker A: Okay, I'll take a little stretch off of the microphone cord. How's that?
Speaker B: Hey, perfect. What did you do?
Speaker A: Got one of those spiral mic cords and so I had it stretched out leaning back in my rocking chair. Now I've taking the stretch out of the court.
Speaker B: Oh, that's too funny. It worked. It sounded so good. I think I'll do mine. Wait,
Speaker A: That's kind of like me at my age, when I stretch too much, I pay for it in the long run. So I did some encounter work yesterday for a couple hours and I overdid it. So I'm kind of laid up today.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I know these people from, you know, where I go in doctors. I see the same kind of guys and stuff. Older, But, you know, they're all good people. I don't know how to describe this, but I don't know, they just all seem a lot more friendly. These are the patients and some of them are getting ready to die, but apparently, you know, they're hanging in there and doing the best they can.
Speaker A: I think that goes for most of the people I talk to on this, on this repeater. Pete. Good bunch of folks. And we have a lot in common because I grew up in that area up there. But they're just fine people.
Speaker B: Well, are you gonna have any kind of funeral service? Or get together. Not with, like, ham radio people.
Speaker A: No, not really. When I go, I go. And just a private little family service.
Speaker B: That's about it. Well, I'm sure, you know, you probably have some guys out here that wanted to, you know, pay their condolences and stuff, but that's a good. You know, I'll tell you what really gets me is when you have a veteran, say, who dies and the dog waits, that's a grave sight, for him to get up and play ball, but he never does.
Speaker A: That's all right. You were talking about religion earlier. By faith, we believe that, you know,
Speaker B: we leave things behind, but then we
Speaker A: meet others on the other side. So there's a celebration on the other side, too.
Speaker B: Yeah, you know, I've heard that. Well, I'm kind of thankful in my life that I never hurt people. You know, I've seen some times where, you know, like, say, a fight and the guy's still, you know, wailing on him after he's down and out, you know, it's just cool. So a lot of it is what you send out, you know, that comes back.
Speaker A: Yeah, I. It's a celebration of life, actually. And so, anyway, I heard my wife toot the horn when she came into the garage, so she wants me to come and help her carry in the groceries, so I'm going to do that. Pete, good talking to you. And you have a great one. K6IWH, K I6HK.
Speaker B: All right.
N17.
Speaker A: November 6th. Golf Yankee Romeo. Good afternoon.
Speaker B: Ralph system 32 link off. Hey, George. Good afternoon. I don't see what's going in your neck of the woods.
Speaker A: Weather is extremely nice at the moment. Not running around without a shirt on. Starting to see me down. Put infrared into my body and whatnot. Get parts of my body activated. Take a little vitamin tea vacuuming in the bedroom here. We tend to eat a lot in the bedroom, so it gets a very messy stuff. I have to stop and vacuum it periodically. And what else. Great and exciting. Got a new flashlight. Got a nice little on the heavy side, but so loop something anyway, the SK5 05. Nice flashlight. It's got a lot of reviews on ebay. What else? We got a USB monitoring device for us.
Speaker B: Usb, three ports. Very good. I think some of those monitoring devices, the. I think Anker makes one.
Speaker A: I saw.
Speaker B: They see. Yes. It's probably not the same one you're talking about, but where they give you the current draw the voltage obviously, and the current draw and everything else. Or if you're charging at the battery, it's pulling for the power source. Some of those USB things are pretty fancy schmancy, but good deal. Yeah, it's beautiful here too, man. It's. I'm heading over to meet with a guy down near the Strip. Some venue we're looking at renting out for an employee function coming up here next month. But like 72 degrees, man. Not a cloud in the sky, no wind. It's just gorgeous. So it's been an interesting winter, man. Hardly any snow around at all in the mountaintop. I'm sure the ski resorts are hurting.
Speaker A: All right, Well, I got 74 here, so I got to do that just by go. Anyways, the weather is nice here and there. I haven't been to Vegas in a while. Be fun to go, I think. I'm not sure is it fun to go to Vegas anymore. If I didn't live here, I wouldn't come. It's.
Speaker B: It's price. I mean, the prices have just got completely out of control and everything. It's just. It's just nuts. I mean, the way they. The way to screw over the tourists and all the fees and taxes and, you know, $20 for a bottle of water crap. Wouldn't surprise anybody coming anywhere. But even just for regular. Regular, you know, regular stuff like going to just a regular restaurant or something like that, it's just. It's nuts. But maybe it's that way all over the place, but. I know, I know Vegas is getting a really Bad rap with tourists who are just, you know, like I said, slapping all the additional fees and stuff on hotel rooms. I know that the occupancy rates are down quite a bit. So the local guys better figure it out before people decide to go elsewhere and never come back.
Speaker A: That's what they expect. They expect you to go everywhere else. That way they can buy up all the property you see and put it under one democratic control situation where you sell it, make a lot of money for the Democrats so they can elect more people. That's the kind of crud that goes on.
Speaker B: Maybe so, maybe so. You know, mgm, speaking of ownership, mgm, whatever the conglomeration is called now anymore, they own a bunch of those casinos in town, you know, Caesars and a bunch of those hotels, Luxor, Am, Circus, Circus. All the places used to be separate are now under that they're huge umbrella. Post a lot of consolidation here in town. As far as the corporate corporations that own all the properties,
Speaker A: That's what they're, you know, trying to do is buy it all up, take enough money out of it, sell some of it off, give it to the Dems and sell the rest of it to the Saudis. Then they can rebuild it. They know how to do things right.
Speaker B: Anyways,
Speaker A: my forecast for Las Vegas is abysmal. Yeah. Unless things change here.
Speaker B: I'm sure you're right. And we've got a lot of. I've been here for a long time. Town's definitely changed. Not necessarily for the good the way these have. The city zone is kind of messy, messed up as far as housing and things like that goes. And a lot of folks from the People's Republic are moving in and trying to make it, make it more like California, which is you got. You left California because you hated the shit that was going on there. So why do you want to come here and make this like California? But I don't know, I got probably another year and a half, two years I'll work and then I would very much like to get the hell out of here. But we'll see.
Speaker A: You got warm places and you got cold places. Well, cold places would be nice. Food costing to waste money to heat it. And warm places are great except the prices are high. I'd have to stop doing some serious research. Yeah.
Speaker B: And look for places that have state income tax. Right. Nevada doesn't have that. I hate to move someplace. It does. Although I did see something on the news the other day that some of the states are looking at starting to roll back state income tax and Slowly phasing it up, which is interesting. Go to more to a youth based tax. Right. So if you buy kind of like turkey, I just kind of use out some of the bat value added tax.
Speaker A: But I don't know, you know the northern.
Speaker B: A little north of Vegas here. There's some decent parts of the state. One of my, one of the guys I work with bought a house in Carson City which is just outside Tahoe, of course. And he loves it.
Speaker A: And it's not hot, not cold.
Speaker B: It's kind of, you know, kind of four seasons but not too extreme. So he likes it up there. He bought a place and his wife lives up there pretty much full time. And he works down here yet because he hasn't retired yet. He kind of goes back there maybe two times a month. Gets a cheap $29 fare on Fletcher Airlines and flies up there.
Speaker A: Great move. Yeah, I like Carson City. There was a bed and breakfast right across from the Governor's Mankind. I stayed there several times and two other places around town. Then of course you can always go up to Virginia City up that way. Best horehound candy in the state can be found at the candy place. You go east on off of
Speaker B: whatever
Speaker A: that town is there and you go east and you make turn up towards Virginia City. A couple hundred yards up there's a candy shop that's for Hound Candy and town by Hound Candy. And of course, you know, you got the tourist up there, you got the Mayans, you got the love to go out and pan for some gold. You got lots of nice stuff up there. Yeah.
Speaker B: Wife and I went to Reno. Not Reno, Tahoe a year or two ago. And we went, we drove down to Carson City to drive around, look around. Based on what my friend had told me. Yeah, we liked it. Went and saw the. We saw a couple of movies and figured out which one there was the mint, I think it was. That's the right term for it. Went there and toured that and railroad museum. A few other things. Unlike here in Vegas. Here you walk around in town and people just stare through you like they'd rather kill you than talk to you. And everybody was really friendly. More like what I'm used to in the Midwest when I grew up there. Just very cordial, very polite, nice people.
Speaker A: I run a casino up there. They got nice people up there running the casinos. They ain't got big casinos. They got little ones. I don't know what else was around town. I only saw little ones myself.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm not, not a gambler, you know. Don't do anything for me. But yeah, like I said, we spent. We spent minimal time. We walked around town for a while and had had a lunch at a really nice local or pub. I said saw a couple of attractions that drove back. Back up into Tahoe and finish the trip up there.
Speaker A: But anyways, other than that, yeah, not much to do.
Speaker B: Government shut down again. But unfortunately my guys aren't affected because we got. The government sent us a bunch of money to carry us through the end of March. So instead of me having to furlough a bunch of people like I had last time. So it looks like we're going to be able to weather this storm. They can get everything unmessed up and reopened tomorrow afternoon. I guess that's the current plan. We'll see how that works.
Speaker A: Good. Yeah. I think in Gardnerville there's a Basque restaurant called Wool Growers or something like that. And you get a chance to difference. So you get 10.6tyr. I think I'll let you go. Think we tied it up long enough. What do you think?
Speaker B: All right, man. Yeah, I'm not. I'm not far from my first stop anyways. Got some guys I got to pick up when we die out of the venue, so. All right, take care. Thanks for. For the shout and have a good rest of you today. 7T&D Vegas be clerked

And you're the only. You're the only guinea pig that has come along. Some other folks have been very under the weather.
Speaker A: Okay, well, we know the standard command is working, so at least we know that much. At least we know the commands are getting through.
Speaker B: Okay, well, can you try the standard for 13? I'm sorry? For 16?
Speaker A: Okay. I think it's got the same. I'd have to look up on the. There's a huge bunch of charts I'd have to look at to see if it's standard for 16. If there's one it's not standard for. It's going to be 16, but I'll try it. N6 GRT.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's the standard.
Speaker A: Yeah, I just did it. Let me try it again. Yeah, no, go for 16.
Speaker B: Okay. And that was your five digit command or. Right.
Speaker A: My aprs is goofing up my radio a little bit.
