Speaker A: Ak6vzd mobile w e6a x n repeater.
Speaker B: Yeah, I was just wondering which frequency I was gonna ident on. Good evening, Chris. How are you?
Speaker A: A little bit confused, did we.
Speaker B: No, I was just leaving work and I've got several radios here in my truck, several bands to work and I was just, I was just wondering which one I was going to use and then, then you came on. So I, this, this is what I'm going to use.
Speaker A: Okay, what are your choices?
Speaker B: Well, I've got this frequency and then I've got my, our local, the Kelly Ridge GMRS frequency that we, that I use quite a bit for our local area. And then I just got into a, got invited to use a P25 frequency, a 2 meter frequency. It's up on top of St. John and it's 100 watt repeater up there and it actually covers better than any other, any other repeater I use. There are no soft spots in this area?
Speaker A: Well, yes, at 100 watts. Oh yeah. And you got a pretty straight shot over there. I mean if I knew exactly which peak it was, I could probably tell you that I could see it from here.
Speaker B: And I mean I know 2 meters, a good frequency but I. A good band. But I mean I, I've been up in, in Laporte, I have been and we've. Some of them were in the eash. A couple of guys were tested that they were in the issue wilderness on HT's and it gets, that goes that far. I just. To me that's phenomenal.
Speaker A: Well, it's, I'm not sure how far, you know what the elevation of Goat Mountain is, but I'm sure it's higher up than the butte, so. Yeah, that helps too. The elevation helps.
Speaker B: Yeah. Somehow I'm thinking around 6,000 is what they were saying about this one, but I'm, I'm not positive on that. Don't hold me to it.
Speaker A: I thought you might have a 900 rig also in your truck.
Speaker B: I do have a 900 rig in my truck, but the antenna is not on the truck right now. So it's kind of a useless piece of furniture here in the truck right now.
Speaker A: Well, and actually Ted has taken on the 900 repeater offline up on the butte. I don't remember what he said he's doing with it, but it's offline at the moment and looks to be it's going to be offline for a little while. So I know they got a 900 up in Chico, but I'm not sure where else?
Speaker B: Yeah, for my area here, I've been a little disappointed in all those 900 frequencies. I mean, I know we're in the shadows of the mountains here, but I have from Bangor I could hit, hit them, you know, pretty easy. And on top of the Kelly Ridge Hill I could hit it pretty easy. But boy, I'll tell you, try to use that thing while you're driving in between. It just doesn't get it.
Speaker A: Yeah, no, I'm not sure. I think I can get the El Dorado Hills one from, from here.
Speaker B: Yeah, it makes a huge difference if you're out in the valley or if you're here in the, you know, where you have too much, you know, shadow they've got. A 900 is good for some things, but you know, long distances, long distance and mountainous terrain, probably not quite as good as my two meter rigs.
Speaker A: Well, no, that's. And that's the nature of the van. So actually, actually, you know, for the past couple of years we've been running, some of us have been running 900 rigs on bike around the butte and it's pretty good except you get to a certain point on West Butte Road and it just, you know, you get behind, you get behind the rocks there and it just does not come through.
Speaker B: Yeah. And I, I've noticed that Even on the 2 meter there's a certain spot on the, on west, on the, on the west side that it, that it's, you know, you can hear it crackling a lot. But the 2 meter, I mean the 900 worked really good for me the last two years on bike around Debute, I had no complaints. Yeah.
Speaker A: Yep. So Ernie, you have to talk me out of it. I saw a, a unit in 980 which is a CB. It's a single sideband and I'm like, oh, single sideband. I'm, I'm fighting the urge to buy the darn thing.
Speaker B: Would that have been something you played around with back before you got into HAM radio?
Speaker A: I'm not single sideband, but, but back in, when, when, when CBs were a fad back in the mid-70s. Oh yes.
Speaker B: That's something I haven't had hardly any experience with at all. When we got into radios, we got into, you know, the hand bands and GMRS stuff. No cb. Not much CB activity at all,
Speaker A: you know. And Ernie, I still remember my call sign because you had to have a call sign for cb. It was free, but you had to have one. I'm KKQ5800.
Speaker B: That's interesting. I don't think. I mean I didn't know that. I'm assuming there's that requirement. If that's no longer a requirement.
Speaker A: That dropped. Actually that dropped in the late 70s. I'm going to say maybe even as early as 76 they dropped the requirement. I think they were just too inundated with people, you know, going out and buying CBs and not bothering with licensing. There were just so many people out there. I think they just kind of just gave up.
Speaker B: Is there much of a monitoring network involved with the CB band there? My observation or my feeling is that there's just probably not much oversight involved. But surely the FCC would. I mean are they concerned about it at all?
Speaker A: I don't know. And I think that there's probably almost no oversight on it. A few years ago I actually did buy a single sideband 23 Bander, 23 channel to start up with. And I listened to that for a while and could tell the guys that were out there with a humongous amplifiers because I'd get on the upper sideband and hear this just garbage, you know. But it was pretty strong but you couldn't understand anything. And then I'd go off a side band and then to go up to the other to upper side band and it was still just as strong and still just as garbled. So you know, just the fact that it was bleeding over from upper side band to lower side band. You knew the guy had to have a lot of power.
Speaker B: Yeah, and I've wondered about that because I have a couple customers who use CBs and they both. The two people I'm thinking of, they both, you know, say they. Oh yeah, they have a sweet 16 under the seat. I guess that sounds like quite an amp.
Speaker A: Yes, yes. Well Ernie, I'm destinated. I'm not sure how far out you are, but I'm destinated and I'm sitting here staring at some garbage cans that need to be trucked down to the to the street. So have a great evening. I guess we'll hear you on the net tonight. But until next time. 73 KK6BZD Clear 73 is to you as well, Chris.

I like to be able to help out any way that I possibly can. Can you go out there about 2 o' clock in the morning? There's probably some goofballs out there then. I was actually out there at around 2:30, 3:00 the other morning and I caught a couple that were having some extracurricular exercises that I kind of freaked out. Okay. Too much information there. Oh yeah. So I go through there at all different times and seems like every time I go through I catch at least one or two cars in there. So hasn't been too bad though. Nobody doing anything really stupid yet. You know, after a while, I think people start realizing that, you know, there's a. Somebody roaming around out there every once in a while. So that. That may just. That may deter things, just knowing that you're out there. Yes, sir. So. But, yeah, just want to let you know I just got done doing the sweeps and. Yeah, we're good to go. All right. Thank you, Buck. Appreciate that, brother. Not a problem, sir. You have yourself a good night, and I'll talk at you later. Seven three and six three to you. KK1BD, clear.
Kk6vzd. Kk1vd. Kk6vzd. Go ahead. Hey, how far off was my clock there? Three minutes, I think. What's your phone say? Well, I was looking at my computer, so that's why. Yeah, I see. My phone's 36 now and my computer's 33, so. Yep. Yeah, that's. Have to change that one. I don't think my computer is. I think it's accurate because I set it against my phone. Yeah. I had to go to a different computer tonight that Dell that I have. I. I've misplaced it somewhere around the shop or the house or the shack or somewhere around here. I gotta figure out what I did with it. So I went back to my old HP here, and it's been sitting for months and months and months. So that's probably why the time's off on it. Oh, yeah. Pesky how things, you know, can hide themselves on you like that. You. Roger. Okay, I appreciate that. I'll Talk with you later. 73 KK One bed clear. One other thing before you leave completely, since it's now past Christmas and it's now past January, did you want to maybe think about getting together and doing that little short tester, cable tester, finishing that up? Yeah. Yeah, I'd like to do that. Whatever's a convenient time for you. Maybe after you retire. I don't want to wait that long. Okay. I'll take a look and see if we can figure out something fairly soon. Do you have the components for that? I have the box. I do. I have. I have the other stuff that's needed. Yeah, I think I'm pretty. I showed you the box. I think. I think it'll work for it, so. All right, I appreciate that. Thanks. Have a great evening. 73 KK6VZV. Clear. Yeah, I'm gonna hang in here for a few minutes and see if Claire comes through. I'm sure he. He probably will. By the way, on your roster, he did check in late after you went off air last week. So if you want to check him in, that'd be great. I'll wait around here for a minute or two for him. You know, I actually did hear him when I was in the other room, so. Yes, I made that correction just now. Okay. 73 KK1BD clear.
Speaker A: Kb9myf. Kk1 Bud. Go ahead. Jeff?
Speaker B: Yeah? Do you know anything about the old holocrafters radios? No, I don't. I haven't had any experience with them at all.
Speaker A: Okay, I gotta take this Raptor's SX71 apart and fix the main tuning tuning string that popped off the cable because. Or I mean popped off the pulleys. Somebody gave it a really hard spin. Well, that sounds like a bummer.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's. No, I don't. I don't have any experience at all with that, Jeff.
Speaker A: I got a
Speaker B: newer transistor. I read you that the diode cord is broke on it. And of course I've had my dad and I took the this one apart from 20 years. 20 or 30 years ago to just fix the same problem. So I guess. I guess I still remember how it comes apart. Boy,
Speaker C: that's good if you can remember 20 years ago. I sure can. I remember my parents had
Speaker A: an airplane when I was six months old and I remember a flying in it. Hey, Jeff, I got to get off here and
Speaker C: get this. Finish up this paperwork for the net and then I got to go in and have some dinner. So I'll Sign off for now. 73 KK1 bud. Clear.

Speaker B: Morning, bright and early, and we'll leave you alone. Finally underway here. Headed to stand.
Speaker A: Early, huh?
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker A: It is six o' clock your time, isn't it? Nine o' clock my time. I've already had my two cups of coffee, my breakfast, my cup of hot chocolate and I think I figured this out. We're trying to set up TTMS commands that we can use at an All Star site to activate Check in link. Check in command.
Speaker B: I think I just figured it out. Yeah, it works at all the RF sites. You just got to figure out how to squeeze it through the All Star gating. All right, carry on, sir. And hats off to all the stuff you guys do with all that voodoo and magic. Man, that LA system just sounds superb. Sounds great. It'd be nice someday at some of the distance stuff that gets hammered by tape. Paws would be in the. In the fray also. But. All right, back to my coffee here. I could drop the mic and grab the cup or I'll be wearing it. Somebody be JKB Mobile Highway 1. Pause every time. All right, Mike, you enjoy your day?
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm just trying to do my part, you know. You know, many, many years I've spent using the Carlo system. Enjoyed just about every minute of it. So, yeah, I'm just, you know, and I'm learning. I love. Excuse me, don't have a cause. I love learning new stuff and doing some real hands on, real hands on stuff here. Having Carla as the opportunity to do those things is pretty awesome. Okay, you have a good day. Talk to you later. N6kn.
Speaker B: Hello. As like me, whenever I do stuff, I document, document, document. Make it so the next guy that comes along doesn't have to stumble and fumble and figure it out. All right, Ken, 7:30. Yeah, my contribution to Carlos and helping Tom commissioning the sites, hanging the antennas and all that good stuff, so. All right, I might be bumpy here even on how we went with our shitty antenna here, so stop me up on 3273 listening.
Speaker A: All right, in a second here, I'm going to try another. Another COP command from a cloud server site. And yeah, thanks for everything you do. Tom and the guys, they need all the help they can get. Talk to you later. N6 knock.
Speaker A: Well, that didn't work. I didn't expect it to. M16. Hey Mike, quick question for you or if anybody else is listening and they know, do all of the sites have link check in capabilities?
Speaker B: To the best of my knowledge, yes, they do.
Speaker A: All right, thank you.
Speaker B: Yeah, I remember once, I believe, there used to be a global command and what a fuster cluck it was. And you issued that command for all of them to check in at the same time. You can imagine the pile up. It was pretty entertaining. But I think that was changed back. I remember when they first tried it was, it was interesting.
Speaker A: Yeah, 32, 34. 34 check ins. Maybe even all at once and that would be terrible. I think I. I think I know how to do that. But it would have to be done in scheduling and that would probably something that someone would want to do at 2:00 in the morning, you know. Okay, talk to you later. Thanks. Thanks for the info.
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. That's another reason why I'm 32 here. PL encode is stripped during all the controller chatters. My radio is always on and that way it minimizes all that stuff so I can kill. All right, good luck.
Speaker A: All right, so what, what repeater or what system are you using currently?
Speaker B: Chris Dorse over on the coast?
Speaker A: Did you try saying tres dos.
Speaker B: Probably the correct way? Yep, 32 for most of us. Yes.
Speaker A: Okay. Okay, thank you.
Speaker B: Trace dulce. Wouldn't that be like 30, 20. Oh, did I screw that up too? 12.
Speaker A: Crap.
Speaker B: I don't know. It's been a long time since I've done the high school Spanish thing.
Speaker A: Okay. The wife says trenta y dos. Trenta e Dos is 32. Rick the Mundo. It sound like somebody may have said that. I had to turn the volume down so I could hear the wife. You know how the wife can be. You better turn that volume down when they're talking.
Speaker B: Yes. And that's always ended with a yes dear.
Speaker A: Yes dear.
Speaker B: You don't look at day over 69. And he's a ham. Which is kind of cool. As a matter of fact, the machine on YOP system up on Shasta Ed had her call sign on it. Oh God. For years and years and years, years and years. And finally one of the local guys up there took it over. They put his side on it, but hers phonetically was throwaway six that quickly grabbed zippers. N6QG said.
Speaker A: Six thirty already and six mtm. Let me see. What the heck did it say this morning? 49 says 52 degrees now up in Magalia and the start of yet another beautiful
Speaker B: day. Good morning. Are you paying attention to hf?
Speaker A: I don't know if you notice, but anytime I key up and say something immediately, as soon as I un. Key miss Mr. SQ Keys up and changes whatever we're talking
Speaker B: about. That's an oh, that's an old CB trick. That's why I'm not bringing it to anybody's attention. They all recognize it too.
Speaker A: There has been quite a bit. I got seven eight SS units and the band is up and down. I can get rid of it with the VC tune but some. Some of the people that aren't over the actual 7s units are hard to hear. John down south down there, Rob's got that new linear. I don't know how much power it is. I can hear Jerry good, but John's in the mud. Rob's the loudest down there and Joe's a little weak. See, we're halfway in between. So that was brought to attention this morning too. I've seen that happen before. It'll be long one direction and not the other. North and south. Sometimes it even happens to the east.
Speaker A: They don't seem to bother them too much up here. Unless they're trying to give somebody a bad time. Then they'll point out that they stepped on them. I got squashed like a bug. It doesn't matter who keyed up first. Just the fact there was a double. And then it's laid on you like it's always your fault. Little CB games really surprising to see amongst the older crowd, especially on
Speaker B: M Radio. Well, what's on your agenda today, Mr. J?
I tried talking my wife into getting her ham radio license. Yeah, now that we're here, she has no interest. Trying to think of the call sign. I had a vanity call sign all picked out for. Her name is Ixa. So I think it was going to be N1X A. Okay, I'm gonna try 32.
Speaker A: That was two. Why was that two? Mike? I'm missing
Speaker B: it.
Speaker A: Is that Ping 32 chicken? That must be something funny with the tone switch on number three and the controller doesn't like it. Yeah, I probably did it wrong. Try it again.
Speaker B: I have to put in the DTMF Hertz tone to get this to work. So like tone 3 is 697 Hertz on the low and 1477 on the high. So you have to put both those tones in to create a three. That's the only way that I can make a 300 millisecond DTMF.
Speaker C: But depending on how the pre emphasis and de emphasis works going across the system, you might find that the higher tone one of them is rolled off. I remember when I was building repeater controllers and all that kind of good stuff, having to deal with that because all my tones just recorded right through the whole work and I set my links up flat and that eliminated about 99% of my problems.
I didn't get part of that. I was paying attention. Rob was checking out. I wanted to jump in there. Yeah. John, Rob and Jerry, all the Southern. The Southern people checked out just now.
I, I should run in the middle of that hallway type wiring. I got it fresh in my head. It's not really that difficult. But yeah, it's about, I think I got a couple wires to hook up and that's it. So the traveler wires, they call. Yeah. Oh yeah, I'm downtown. I told you yesterday. It's been a while since we went and broke bread. I'm ready to do that. What do you think? 8 o'? Clock? All right. I see B O S T. Bost won the election. Change rules. All them judges kept voting him out, giving him stupidest excuses. But it didn't fly. He stayed with it and he stayed with it and, and he finally won in Supreme Court. I don't know if you've stayed up on that Bost. Yesterday, probably the day before, before yesterday's when I saw it. That's a big win. So the way they've been sneaking votes in on the mail in ballots, which is the reason why he's protesting it, is they come in as many as they count them three days later after the date that they're not supposed to accept anymore. And that's when they're dumping whole bunches of them to change the actual out come. Kind of like what they pulled on Trump there. You know, he was so far ahead and somehow during the night, well after the time that they can. Listen, see, for lack of better words, not list but you know, count votes, it swung all the way the other way, see. So anyway, he won that one. He kept, he kept painting them into a corner. Finally a judge said I, I, I got a rule in favor of 7:2. They said it was 6:3, but it ended up being 7:2. So that's, that's one end they're gonna take, continue to take apart mail in ballots. You'll see a whole bunch of good stuff happened yesterday. As far as the courts are going. Another one that got one is the Comey and Letitia James. Remember they threw that out because they tried to say that the lady on the docket hadn't been finalized so she couldn't make a ruling and they used and she wasn't eligible to make a ruling that those two cases had to be thrown out. And that's bull poop. They won that one yesterday too. It doesn't make them any less guilty because they claim that such somebody wasn't completely in that office and couldn't make that decision and they used that for a reason. Well, I didn't fly. So I guess bond between Bondi and, and Gabbard they're going to be refiling on, on Comey and they're, they're guilty. They're trying to use the technicality. Now, a couple of days before that happened back what, five, six weeks ago, Trump had got a decision kind of based on the same thing, except for Trump's deal was, wasn't guilty to start with, but they used that technicality so that it didn't go forward now. Now the argument there was that, that a judge can't set precedence. Just because Trump used a certain avenue doesn't set precedence. See, so, yep, that, that, that's gonna flop or it did flop. So, so now Comey and James are both shaking in their boots again or will be here shortly. A bunch of decisions have come down in the last week, Jay. You're just not gonna believe the dominoes are starting to fall. We are seeing the end of some of these cases happen. It's not, it's not like everybody's saying, yeah, but nobody's going to jail. They're getting arrested, they're not going to jail. Well, I think we're gonna start seeing it. They're just knocking down the this and that to get them out of the way so they can actually get to the justice part. Accountability, I should say. And the Clintons, that's my last political stand. The Clintons, day before yesterday and yesterday, first, first it was Mr. Clinton out, and then the next day it was Ms. Clinton or Vice versa. Neither one of them showed up for their subpoenas. And I'm gonna say goodbye to Lori. All right. Anyway, so they're gonna suffer the consequences for it. They bent over backwards. The speaker yesterday, Johnson, he said all the times they gave him a break on not showing up for their subpoenas. So. But that's it. Now they can just go arrest them for it. One or two more days in paperwork and you'll some outcome. Clinton's aren't above the law. So there they got a lot of good big attorneys, but it's not going to do them any good.
Back when my system was tied to Walla. Remember George Gzk and the guys? Yeah. The main stuff was down there in Lompok, I think it was. Yeah. So for them to be able to control my stuff in Tahoe and vice versa, that made my links flat. It did the tr.
I think it's on the problem I missed when I had one of the tones set at 200 milliseconds instead of 3. Okay, here we go. I'll try it again.
Still not hearing the 3 for some reason. Are we sure the 32 has a link check in? I don't know. Let's see. It's wrong number. I think I was off by one.
Speaker A: It's almost like it doesn't like the two threes together. I don't know how to separate those more so they're more pronounced from each other. Let me try it again here.
Speaker B: This is system 32. It doesn't like my microphone. I noticed when I had the stock issue mic on, it works just fine. It works fine with the handheld, but with this Tyt mic on the 8900, it doesn't like it.
Speaker A: Oh, okay. Well, it checked in that time. All right. I think I need to figure out how to put a space in there. Okay. Well, again, thank you. Try a couple more and then I'll do all of them. Call that good? Thanks.
Speaker A: Well, hello there, Larry. How you doing this morning?
Speaker B: I'm good, kid. Good morning to you. And right now that I tapped this and I was over 75 years from my brother, but I'm done there. Oh, okay. Probably.
Speaker A: Probably heard I'm working on the TTMS stuff here. What is today? Tuesday.
Speaker B: You have no dents today, right? I'm going to be gone from about two because I saw a good part of my day. Or still in the middle of something.
Speaker A: Hang on one second, let me close the door here. My wife's got her phone on speakerphone. All right, Larry, I'm sorry, what did you say?
Speaker B: You're still in the middle of something or if you want to talk for a second.
Speaker A: No, we can, we can talk for a second. I can do all this while I'm talking.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: I just went look at things.
Speaker B: I didn't find anything out on sizing or different circumstances. I just put the, you know, I remember that one place in the settings and fighting where I said 125 and took it down to 100. And I think it said maybe hard to use, but I did put it down 100. And one thing that on my end when I'm bringing up any viewer, that password is just going off the bottom down there into the cache fly and I have a hard time moving it up to where I can see it. But now that I have that size instead of 100, it's very easy for me to do. My question is, did you get your point of sentence to a note on the fly on wifi?
Speaker A: I heard you, but I missed it. What about the WI fi on the
Speaker B: PI I remember you were entering in. Do you know if you successfully got the WI fi into your setting area?
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm pretty sure we did. I'll just double check that stuff. I think we had everything in there correctly. Best way to know is to turn your PI off, unplug the Ethernet and then plug your PI back in and see if you can get in using
Speaker B: that
Speaker A: call sign or that username dodge local on your browsers. Get in if you can. Then you know your WI fi is working. Okay.
Speaker B: And is it to the point now where it's just going to be entering parameters of, you know, on my specifics here, Is there something that I could possibly follow the manual on or do we want to try again for you to be able to see if you get that? I think there's some drop downs or something that weren't working for you.
Speaker A: Yeah, no, we can try it again. Let me finish up with this, and I'll do a couple more tests, and then if you have time, I can team you in there and watch you do it. If I can see the ESL menu,
Speaker B: then we can proceed.
Speaker A: If I can't see it, I don't know how you can see it, but yeah. So let me get back with you. I'll finish what I'm doing here. I think it's going to take me probably another 15 minutes to put all these command lines in, and then another couple minutes testing, and then we could. I can go in and see you. Okay?
Speaker B: All right, no problem. And also tomorrow morning would be better for you. That's no problem for me. All right. K7GM. Let me know which way you want to go.
Speaker A: Today's okay for me.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: I'll talk to you here shortly. M6K.
Okay, Mike, if you're listening, I figured out how to add a space. I'll try that now. M6 knock system 32 link chat in. That was it. When you have like two twos or two threes or two four side by side, there needs to be a little space in there. All right, Good deal. That error 300 whatever. Two coming off of vodka. I still need to figure out how to get rid of that. Is there a command that unmutes the DTMs so that way the far end will actually pass it through the repeater transmitter? Or is that an old act saying, Well, if I had your number or some way of sending you info here real quick or a text or something, I would love to have you try one of these four digit all star cop commands to see if the. See if it'll work. But I have. If I don't have any of your information, I'll have to wait for someone else to wake up. Like Mike or Tom or Jeff. Yeah, I'll pass my number on. Are you ready? Well, let me ask you this. Do you hear use WhatsApp or Signal or any of those? Nope. Nah, I'm not paranoid. I don't care if somebody messes with me. I just block them. It's no big deal. Okay, hang on, hang on one second. Get into my message. I don't seem to have a pen sitting there. Find one. It skips or it doesn't work.
Okay, since this is international, I have to add some extra info here. Give me one second. You gotta add a one. Well, I have to add a little coat in here, too. Okay, go ahead with the number. Carry coding the number. Six, five, zero. Trace. Trace. Trace. 5088. Okay, thank you. I'm going to try to send you a message right now.
Okay, I just sent you two messages. All right, we'll see you when it arrives.
But you get buffered short and then forwarded. Vaders? I haven't seen it yet.
Speaker A: Just to confirm. 650-333-50DB. That's a QSL via the bureau. Yep, that's it. And I do have international coming and going enabled, by
Speaker B: the
Speaker A: way.
Speaker B: Looks like I already had your phone number.
Speaker A: Your picture popped up here. And I think I probably already have yours, too. Let me do a quick search here while I'm driving. Here goes. Yeah, you may have an old one. N16.
Doc don't have you. And last time I got a new phone, my kid, he worked for Sprint, did the upgrade for me. And I lost about 150 contacts during the transfer. And I'm still patching it back together, so I guess yours is probably one of them. It's funny. One of the ones that I lost was my wife, who just thought,
Speaker A: Okay, well, let me. Let me try this with you. Try Star 9. And then the last two digits of the other means that you use minus the very last one, the symbol.
Speaker B: That makes sense perfectly. Here goes. The controllers finished doing their housekeeping. All right, here goes.
Speaker C: I got no response on either 19 or 32 over here. 19 is
Speaker A: not set up yet. Okay, we'll try it again later. Let me finish this and then we'll experiment. I'm sure you'll be out by then. All right, well, thank you again, Mike, and let me know if that message comes n6kn.
Speaker B: Yeah, I can look you up on QRZ when I get to work and see what you got there. And I can shoot stuff to you via email also. So anyway, all right. And I'm always listening on 19 with the handheld there at work, so if I'm not busy, I can pick up and respond. WB6JKV mobile, Mountain View.
Speaker C: I'm sending you an email right now,
Speaker B: by the way. Jkvacbel.net is kind of flaky, but any of the other ones will work at jkvmail. I've got that one on my phone. Also.
Speaker C: Your call sign at
Speaker B: Gmail. We paid money for the PAC bill because we've had it forever, ever since 98, I think it was, and always having trouble with it. Password's not working and, oh, you gotta get old to Yahoo to fix it and all this stuff. But Gmail always freaking works, man. It's free and it just works great. Go figure.
Speaker A: Yeah, Yeah. I don't like playing rub the nose, but indeed it was fun. N6
Speaker B: NTM I won't make a habit of it. So did I bump the dial earlier or did you go, did you leave a present? Yeah, I put
Speaker A: my coffee cup down and spun the dial right there a little bit. And then I, I put it back on and thought, you know what, when I picked it up, I must have knocked it off. That's why I didn't hear you. But anyway, do, do, do. Oh, boy. I think I'll go grab a little bit of news. There's so much good stuff happening right now. Go see what the uptake is. I didn't have time to look at the other side. I hate to ruin a perfectly good morning look at looking at how they spin things, but it is, it is. It's good for your ability to. I found somebody new there. I got to give you the. That guy's name. He is a lawyer. A pretty good take. He's explaining the actual court documents that are taking place and, and before and after to the final decisions right there and what's going to happen next with the courts and the judges making bad decisions. Yeah. With stuff that we probably would have never heard anything about, Jay, except for now. They're. Now they're starting to hold judges or pointing out and hold judges to making bad decisions there. They're slowly showing some accountability to repeat it. Bad decisions and what can be done to them about it? Oh, how do you like that deal? Oh, man, that's a good one. I got to get my phone. I have to read that to you, Jake. What? February 1st, all sanctuary cities. Cities will not be collecting any funds from the government. Yep. They're being cut
Speaker B: off. Trump. How about the big money? They're going
Speaker A: to try to get away with triple street and all that stuff out. What about the vehicles that are antiquing and don't even register miles that they can look at online?
Speaker A: Check. Let me see. I put it in pictures. Should be the last thing in there. I got to read this one to you. This is big. And this comes from that guy. Oh, shoot. I didn't get. I didn't get his name in there, but yeah. Effective February 1st, no more payments will be made by the federal government to states for their corrupt criminal protection centers known as sanctuary cities. All they do is breed crime and violence. If a state wants them, then they'll have to pay for them. Make America great again. Don't you love it? They're not working with ice. They're not calling ICE there when they let them out of jail, when they shouldn't be let free to commit crime again. And all the other things that sanctuary cities are banking on, that we're paying money out to any, any facility that. To get federal funds. All that fraud stuff, ebt, they're closing the door on all that stuff. Sanctuary cities, they're just troublemakers for criminals. They're harboring criminals, though. Yep. And that was signed
Speaker B: President Trump, by the way. I like the way he put that.
Speaker A: All right, off to the news thing. I guess I can get about 30 minutes in. See you down there. N6NTM
Speaker B: Good morning. Now, you got to say hi to Paul. Oh, I thought all that
Speaker A: identification Morse code was his.
There's a couple sitting in Gmail, spam, LinkedIn and LinkedIn.
Hey, mike. Wfc. I'm waving at you as I drive by. Lawrence here. Wb6jkv mobile, Los Angeles link up. Yeah, that works from my handheld, actually, but not from my mobile. So, yeah, that inspires me to fix my stock microphone. All right, hop it on. AWB6JKV mobile, right at the Silence Airport.
All right. Ken just pulled in. I'll be back listening in about 10. WB6JKV no longer mobile. Roger. Roger. Thanks for your help. If he paints a whole lot of nothing, I'd see you.

Speaker A: Good morning y' all and welcome to
Speaker B: the Coffee Break net on the W60K repeater located in Auburn, California. The coffee break Net, where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping.
Speaker A: This net is sponsored by the Sierra
Speaker B: Foothills Amateur Radio Club in Northern California. And we're here every day of the week from 7:30am to 10:00am Pacific Time. Please welcome your net control host and conversation facilitator for today's Coffee break net, Brian AI6US, checking in from beautiful Meadow Vista, California. Let's get the Coffee Break net underway. Sure hopes to get mob picking up truck and old hound dog back real soon. Like,
Speaker A: Oh man, if anybody's seen his pickup truck, would you, you know, let him know? Probably his ex girlfriend or wife is riding around in it with a new new cowboy. But that's the issue for another day. Good morning, I'm Brian AI6US and let's get this coffee Break net underway. Today is February 3, 2026. It is a Tuesday. And let's check out the national days before we get our check ins going for this morning. Today is feed the birds day. So maybe you have a feeder outside your window or maybe you put something out there that you watch for the mortal combat between the squirrels and the birds over the bird feed. Today is American Painters Day. Quite often when we think of different famous American painters, of course we think of Norman Rockwell, Saturday Evening Post. Maybe you have another favorite American painter that you enjoy. Today is doggy date night. I think a dog would take any time of the day, day or night. But today is a special night for your dog. It is doggy date night. So maybe take your dog for an extra long walk in the park or an extra treatment. And this next one I think is the most important national day of the year. I'm sure people out there may argue with me, but today is National Carrot Cake Day. I am a big carrot cake fan and absolutely today is the best day of the entire year for the national days in my own opinion. National Carrot Cake Day. Good morning. Let's go ahead and start our morning with some quick in and outs as you start your day and seems to work pretty well if we just start out with either Internet or RF to kind of cut down on the kerfuffle. So I'm going to go ahead and put this morning put out a call for anyone checking in through RF directly into the W6ek repeater and then I'll go for adding folks coming in from the Internet. So anybody checking into the repeater Directly through our taking quick in and outs as you start your morning.
Speaker C: Kilo Oscar Stage, Kilo Microville,
Speaker D: K6DS1.
Speaker A: All right. And we still ended up with a little bit of kerfuffle. Good morning Jeff. K6 Psy and good morning Robert. K06 KMR. There was another one or two stations in there. Who did I miss?
Speaker D: K A6UAI.
Speaker A: Good morning ron. All right, now let's find out who is out there coming in through the Internet. All star, echo link, etc.
Speaker E: Khu. Oh, good morning.
Speaker A: Aw for you.
Speaker E: Here is king charles 8, fox, queen, victor, kc8fqv, mark,
Speaker A: kilo, charlie 6, sierra,
Speaker D: lemon, sierra, lima, echo,
Speaker A: November 6, Delta,
Speaker E: tango, Kilo, delta 3 alpha, juliet, november
Speaker F: time,
Speaker E: K3 victor, golf mike.
Speaker A: All right, good morning jimmy, ka3vgm and let's see. Good morning kd3ajn and good morning rick n6dt. Sounds like you have a short in your microphone cable. Morning. Good morning graydon, kc6sole and good morning to john kw4u. And good morning to mark, kc8fqv. Did I miss anyone coming in through the Internet? All right, let's go ahead and work down this list. And good morning to everyone. Robert, you're up first. K06KMR. And just a reminder to everyone, these are quick in and outs so let's keep the conversations two minutes or less. If you'd like to have some rag chew, we'll invite you to come back later on in the net. Good morning, Robert. What do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker D: Good morning, Brian.
Speaker C: Well, going to go out for breakfast with the, with the wife this morning. So I'm getting in early today and I get the opportunity to visit with my pals on the ARRL Extra class this afternoon about 7 o' clock and go to the gym. And other than that, that's my day over.
Speaker A: All right, well have an enjoyable breakfast with the wife there. Where are you going to be headed? I suppose that's in the Roseville Rockland area.
Speaker C: Yeah, Roseville. We've got a little place called Country Kitchen down the street here on Washington Street. Not too far and we like going there. They know who we are, we know who they are and just enjoy it.
Speaker E: Over.
Speaker A: Very familiar with the place. I used to have my business down there at Washington and East Roseville Parkway. So yeah, very familiar.
Speaker D: Well, excellent.
Speaker A: Have a wonderful breakfast, wonderful time with your wife and then good luck with your extra class this evening. And by the way, it isn't too late. Anybody out there who is wanting to upgrade to an extra class license. The classes are going on right now and this will be the second week of the 10 week session and it's all on Zoom so you don't need to be local to attend. So you can head on over to the club website WC
Speaker F: and get signed
Speaker A: up for that if you're interested. So thank you Robert, you have a wonderful day
Speaker D: sir.
Speaker C: Turning it back over to you Kilo Oscar six Kilo Mike Romeo and I'm going to sign out and go eat breakfast over.
Speaker A: You have a wonderful breakfast there clearing with KO6KMR and good morning Jeff.
Speaker D: K6BSY. Well Good morning Brian. K6BSY did you say today was Tuesday?
Speaker A: I should have said today's Tuesday because it is. Did I say that wrong?
Speaker D: Well it just feels like Saturday but if you say it's Tuesday I'll take
Speaker A: your word for it. Oh Jeff, are you bragging about being retired again?
Speaker D: I shouldn't do that. That is really, really bad of me to do that. Anyway Brian, you had mentioned maybe yesterday, maybe it was Saturday or maybe it just seemed like Saturday.
Speaker A: But.
Speaker D: But you said there was no snow in the mountains.
Speaker A: No less snow than normal was the observation and especially the moisture content has kind of been down. I know you go snow wheeling so prove us wrong.
Speaker D: Well yeah, I think I need to go up there and get a visual. You know, taste it, smell it, eat it.
Speaker A: I know you really enjoy the snow wheeling. No, as of a few weeks ago people were still making it up to Canada Hill with four wheel. So you know, if the gates are open and people are making up that high that seems, you know, not as much snow as there have been in past years. Usually what the last, last time you can make it up there is maybe early December.
Speaker D: You know it's always a little different of course but
Speaker A: gosh, there's still a
Speaker D: lot of snow up there and I think I may have been in that group that we made it to the road that you, you do your camping on there. So technically we weren't at the top of Canada Hill but maybe today we could do that, get over Canada Hill and possibly get into Robinson Flat. But yeah, you know, you're right there. Two big storms dumped a lot of snow and we haven't seen any since that, since that time. So yeah, I might see some more but the forecast looks pretty bleak anyway. Brian, I know that limited this to two minutes and I am very difficult to, you know, curtail my verbose nature so I'll step aside. You have a good, you have a good day Brian ai6us k6psy
Speaker A: well, you know, I can partially take the blame I think for the lack of snowfall because I just decided to keep the snowmobile one more year. So it's all my fault. Hey, you have a wonderful day. Good morning to you and we'll catch you another morning. K6BSY, Ai6us and let's see. Ron Ka6uaI Good morning Ron. Welcome to the coffee breaknet.
Speaker F: Good morning K6Uai. Well, it's another early work day and trying to avoid the first in and last out phenomenon and be the first in and very first out before anybody else even thinks about it. Got things to work on and because we're going to try to do a little bit more longer distance travel than we have been the last couple of years, we're to going, going to be on airplanes. So I broke down about another Radio Apache case and I have a backpack coming. For everything else I'm going to carry on the ultralight and very portable system. I still have the rack mount case for the 710 but this will be 891 and it'll be light and easy to put on a plane and carry even with a couple of 7amp power batteries. So got it all planned out, all the stuff coming and have it together just waiting for the airline tickets to show up.
Speaker A: Okay, maybe, maybe you've already researched this but make sure that your batteries are within the range allowed on aircraft. So something tells me that 7amp hour might be a little high. I was thinking that the rating on batteries needed to be lower than that. So please tell me you've done a little research on that.
Speaker F: Of course I have, yeah, it's seven and a half hours is under the limit. They consider the seven amp hours times
Speaker A: 12 volts for the battery and it
Speaker F: also has an amp hour rating. It's actually I think 96 with the 12.8 nominal voltage. I can't do that one in my head right at the moment but anyway it's under the limit.
Speaker A: Two per person.
Speaker F: We'll probably carry one each but it has to be in the airplane, not in the baggage.
Speaker A: Checked baggage.
Speaker F: I guess that way if they start heating up and smoking all by themselves they can open the door and throw it outside. I don't know.
Speaker A: Yeah, probably a lot easier to get to the the backpack at your feet rather than sending somebody down to go through the cargo. All right, well Ron, good research there. Wishing you well in your build out and looking forward to hearing hearing you when you're on your trips. Abroad there. Ka6uai ai6us Happy Tuesday.
Speaker F: Yes, it's T mobile Tuesday. And if you they have a free burger somewhere or something.
Speaker A: Who knows.
Speaker F: Anyway, you have a great rest of the week.
Speaker A: K6Uai73 all right 73 Ron and let's check in with Mark. KC8FQV Good morning Mark back in. Let's see. I'm trying to remember what neck of the woods you're in. Back east somewhere. Good morning Mark. What do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker E: Well we got about 20 degrees or a little, maybe a little more. But we're in Ohio. Yep. Up northeast Ohio by Cleveland between Cleveland east of Cleveland Akron line. But you know a lot of phone calls that we get here, I just hang up on them all. If they're not something I know I just hang up on them and I had to dial back the number. That number's not a working number. So I just hang up on them all. Everyone comes in and gets hung up and I call them back and if they answer and they answer truthfully they'll answer if they're not, you know because our oil well, our oil guy last week called, he was delivering oil because he didn't know we had a different company do it. He didn't know where the tank was but he delivered and he got in there and got delivered. Yep. We never ran out of oil, it was way low. But everything else is going good here. So yeah, last night I was going to. I was wanting to listen to the net, the node net and I had it on. I was laying there a little before 9 and 9 o' clock came and well, somewhere in there I sort of fell asleep and woke up an hour later and they were just finishing. But I did find out about exactly what the numbering system at 7 is. They are wanting to start a digit number 7 for the all Star so they can, you know because All Star don't recognize the seven in the present hardware software they want to have it. Recognize it or numbers. Yeah just like the phone company did. You know when they started having us dial 10 digits, you know we got dial 10 digits here even we're just dialing across the street, you know. But you know the phone numbers used area codes used to be ones and zeros I think and nothing else. But now they're all the numbers in that middle digit lot. And here you go same thing with the prefix was something and they just made all the numbers be available for all My think is how they did it, how they gained more numbers. But yeah Other than that not much else here happening. Just cooked some dishes and scalded them because they were bad so and I'm going to go do some bill payment and some other stuff here so and I got empty the phone out. The phone is so I did get a hard drive so two terabyte drive. So I'll hook that up and we'll empty that out. So let's send it back to the net case fqv
Speaker A: yeah with a published business phone number. I do get a lot of calls myself and I would say 90% of them are spam calls and very few of them are a real human being. It's a computer waiting for my voice so that they can then connect me to a human being. Will, good morning to you and glad you've made it through another night of and he got that oil delivered. Sorry that you slept through the net but yeah we actually were having a VE session last night so I wasn't able to listen in either but sounds like we might be hearing some more answers about the clear node and how it will be handling the transition to additional node numbers. Mark, have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking in this beautiful Tuesday morning and we'll catch you another time. KC8FQV AI6US73Yep7 3 I'm glad the guy
Speaker E: came back to me at the end of the net and just explained a little bit to me. So 873 back the net
Speaker A: and clearing with Mark. Let's check in with John kw4u Good morning John.
Speaker G: Hi Brian. John here and not too much planned for the day I don't think probably need to do some begin doing the bylaws work for Tucson Society of the Blind that'll be that shouldn't be too stressful. Oh I better aggregate my tax documents because seeing H and R block on Wednesday six days from now. Interesting comments about phone yeah now we have exchanges that are area codes you know and vice versa.
Leave yet. Mr. J n6 ntm2 and 6 wip.
Speaker A: And 16. I'm just trying some dtmf commands here. Sa.
Speaker B: System25link check in.
Kk6dzb mobile w e6a x n repeater.
26, lift up.
Speaker A: And funny you mentioned business numbers. Both my landline and my cell end in 00. So that's kind of interesting. They were just randomly assigned.
Speaker B: In both.
Speaker A: In both cases they were randomly assigned. But I love those numbers. So let's see. Trying to think. Oh, I did some experimenting last night, Brian. If you could confirm for me since I'm doing webtransie using repeaterphone here, you're probably just seeing a call sign and that's all you could see. In the wake of yesterday's net and the information about, you know, the changes to All Star, I wanted to make sure that I was actually using my second node number with the shark. Mike the Shark M1KE. And I in fact am. But I wonder how it appears, you know, when it's just webtrance, because I know you call me by name and you know when I key up and
Speaker B: all that good stuff.
Speaker A: So that's all I got for this morning while I Enjoy my coffee. KW for you.
Speaker B: Yeah, we're still using ham VOIP here. So I'm using Superman 2 as my. As my viewing. And yeah, you just show up with your call and that's your IAX RPT or web transceive client. So, yeah, I don't have any other information other than that showing up on my dashboard here, but hopefully that helps you out. And boy, you are ahead of me on the taxes. I still have yet some inputting to do and so, yeah, I'm probably not going to see my tax person for probably two or probably three or four weeks actually. Good morning to you there, John. You must have the best polished bylaws in the world. As much work as you do on them. Kw4uai6us.
Speaker C: You have a great Tuesday.
Speaker A: Well, when I talked about bylaws last month, they were for the Blind Information Technology Solutions. Used to be specialists. Now it's Blind Information Technology Solutions. This one is for another group. So I become by law guy in the community of blindness organizations that I do that I'm familiar with and who are familiar with me and who look to me for such things. So it's, it's a different group. 73 Brian.kw4u will continue to monitor.
Speaker B: Well, that's good to hear.
Speaker D: Okay.
Speaker B: I'm feeling more comfortable now, John, knowing that it's a different group. Have a great day. Thanks for checking in. Clear with KW4U. And let's check in with Graydon KC6SOLE. Good morning, Graydon, and thank you so much for your organization on the VE Elmer Group last evening.
Speaker C: Good morning,
Speaker B: Howdy, Brian.
Speaker E: I really like that cowboy introduction. You know, I should have been a cowboy. I should have learned to rope and ride driving my pony on a cattle
Speaker D: Dr.
Speaker B: Well, you've got yourself a pick truck.
Speaker D: You got yourself a little girl to
Speaker B: be sitting on that seat beside you. You have about everything you need to be a good old boy there. So I'm with you there, Gray.
Speaker E: No man and his pickup, you can't separate them. My first Chevy pickup I had had a seat in the front. So Lisa and I really enjoyed that because we got to travel cowboy style. Other words, with Lisa sitting right next to me on the bench seat. Bench seats and trucks. I'd rather have that than a bucket seat any day.
Speaker B: Well, in my F350 I have a bench seat. And I remember the days when Lynn used to sit in that seat beside me. Now she, she's closer to the door on the other side. Well, you're pretty close to being a cowboy. You just need a Ford.
Speaker D: Now.
Speaker E: You want to start that, huh? Yeah, we'll get the. Anyway, it was a lot of fun last night. Glad everything worked out well, I want to thank all the Elmers that showed up. You know I was looking at the sign in sheet. We had 11 Elmers show up last night. Really appreciate that good turnout. I know the VE's did a good job. You did a great job.
Speaker B: Another successful VE session.
Speaker E: But that'll let you go back to the net. Have a great day. KC successfully.
Speaker B: Yep. After last evening we have three new amateur radio ops, three new techs, we have two upgrades to general and two upgrades to extra. So yeah, it's great to be part of the, part of the program to bring people into the hobby and provide upgrade path for them. So thank you so much to you, the entire VE and Elmer team. It was a great, great session last evening and some great food beforehand at Brewster's Burger Graydon. Good morning to you. Good morning Grady. Good morning to Lisa. And maybe someday you will get a real pick em up truck. 73 my Jimmy.
Speaker E: Thanks ya 73 KC6 SLA.
Speaker B: Yes sir. I always make sure that I have a yankum rope in the back of my truck whenever I drive with you. Because I knows you, you don't want to be stuck beside the road too
Speaker C: often
Speaker B: clearing with KC6SLE. Good morning Rick N6DT.
Speaker F: Oh hi Brian. Good morning. Well, I switched microphones which also have these attached to my Baofeng radio. So anyway, I switched radios and hopefully this is better. Hey, real quick. Yeah.
Speaker B: Carrot cake.
Speaker F: One of my favorites. And Actually, there's a recipe for the frosting. It's been just a straight cream cheese frosting. You fold in some sour cream with
Speaker G: it and it gives a little bit
Speaker F: of tartness as well as leaves a sweetness in there. It's very nice. Anyway, that's another spot. This is N60D73S, Brian.
Speaker B: You know, there was a birthday that I had, it's probably been about 20 years ago now, but ended up with, I think it was six, six or seven carrot cakes by different people that I worked with, friends, family. Thank goodness. Carrot cakes freeze well and I enjoyed every one of them. Just when I thought carrot cakes were delicious as they were, you add sour cream. I'm gonna have to try that. Rick, you have a wonderful day. N6DT and yes, your audio. Much better. Much better. N6DT AI6US73. Good morning, anna. Kd3ajn has, has it thawed out back in pennsylvania yet?
Speaker H: Good morning, Brian, and everyone else on the net this morning. We're up in the 20s today, so that's, you know, that's better than what we've had yesterday. Ray and I broke out and went out. It was the first time we've been out in over a week and it was really cold in the morning, but it wasn't quite as bad when we come home. But we'll be going out later today this evening. And other than that, not too much else happening here. Just doing some laundry and hanging out.
Speaker B: Well, I imagine there was a little stir craziness going on, being inside for a week. I'm thinking about some of those movies of trapped in a mansion with a crazy person for a week.
Speaker G: Sure.
Speaker B: It was wonderful, though, to get outside. Enjoy your heat wave in the, in the 20s today.
Speaker C: That sounds absolutely lovely.
Speaker H: Yes, it is. I don't think the snow is going anywhere because it's supposed to be a little warm and then it's supposed to get really cold over the weekend and have some more snow.
Speaker G: So
Speaker H: that's the way it is here in Pennsylvania. Everybody have a good day. KD3AJN.
Speaker B: Well, you know, definitely the groundhog spoke yesterday and he's only right 35% of the time. But he's predicting what, six more weeks of winter and, and yeah, a little bit of melting. Get that water underneath the snow and then it freezes up. That stuff will be around forever, won't it, Ana?
Speaker C: Have a wonderful day.
Speaker B: Good morning to you and your husband, Ray, and we'll catch you another morning. KD3AJN AI6US thanks for joining us this morning on the Coffee Breaknet. Good morning Jimmy. Ka3VGM, what do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker G: Morning Brian. As Anna said, we are a little warmer than we had been right now. My computer says 22. I don't know if it's any warmer than that. Windows 11. It doesn't always update the temperature correctly, so not sure but it says 22. But tomorrow night I think we're supposed to be back down to 5 degrees. So as Anna said, it won't last long. But at least we are all award for today. Although it's still way too cold for me to go outside. It has to be at least 35 or 40 before I venture out the door in my wheelchair. Back to you Brian. Ai6us kanye3btm everybody have a good day.
Speaker B: You know Jimmy, people go, brian, how can you stand to live out there in California? How can you live out there? You know, California is such a terrible place. And I say yes it is as I sit on my back porch the end of January in my short sleeve shirt and suffer through every moment of it.
Speaker H: So
Speaker B: yeah, we have cold here, we have rain. But you know, I am not a cold weather person myself. I grew up in the Northwest and didn't have the kind of cold that you have back there in Pennsylvania, but definitely had enough snow and ice and rain to last me a lifetime. Ka3vgm, you have a wonderful day, stay safe and thanks for checking in this morning. Jimmy 7:3.
Speaker H: Broadcasting live at an elevation of 3673ft. This is Sac Valley's original.
Speaker B: Hand with doing the sidewalks or scraping out the driveway. You can start driving now or come over to my place and rake some oak leaves. Good morning. Coffee breaknet on the W60K repeater. Let's go ahead and take another round of check ins. Let's make one more round of quick in and outs as you start your day. Any takers? Good morning Brian. KV6SSN M60. Good morning Brian.
Speaker A: Free november. Good morning.
Speaker G: K 60 0.
Speaker B: Good morning. Tkl. Good morning. No place to like California. You have a last station coming in through the east coast hub Fireside. We didn't get your call sign. You were covered up on the first part there. So your full call and yes, no place like California in many ways. Your call sign, sir? Kilo6 papa. Kilo. Lilo. Yeah. Kilo6 papa kilo lima, k6pkl. All right, k6pkl. Very good. You're on the short list. We'll be back to you in a few minutes. Good morning to dave, k6dcl. Good morning, simone, k6dxn. Good morning to k6wqu. Dave, dan. And good morning to ray, kk6am and good morning to tom, kb6ssn. There was one or two other stations you got stomped on. Who did I miss?
Speaker D: Ko6.
Speaker B: All right, after that kerfuffle, I heard K06IHJ. Good morning, Larry. And there were a few other people stomped unmercifully into the ground. Let's see, coming out of Orland, California, W6GRC. I think that's the repeater up there. Who do we have checking in from there? Oh, pull the silent treatment on me. Okay, and who else did I miss? There were a few other stations trying to get in.
Speaker H: Kilo FLH, Papa Delta, Oscar,
Speaker B: NK06TH. Good morning. Good morning, Tim, W8LDT. Good morning, Greg, KO6TH and KE8PDO. An interesting clocking sound in your signal that is right up there. Pretty much equal level to your voice. Just wanted to bring that to your attention. Good morning, Larry. All right, let's go with this list right here. And good morning up to the top. These are quick in and out, so let's keep it under two minutes. And a flip of the soft egg timer. Good morning, Tom, KB6SS.
Speaker C: Well, good morning, Brian and Annette, KB6SSN.
Speaker B: Tom here.
Speaker C: Yes, it's a chilly morning where I'm sitting because my blower and my van doesn't work.
Speaker B: And it's nice and hot in the
Speaker C: back seat, but it's nice and cold in the front seat. In any case, Dan's on his way up sometime today to repair that for me, so I'm looking forward to that. The other thing that came to mind was you were talking about clearing all of this snow. And I was thinking that, you know, the M2A1 flamethrower is your friend in situations like that. And they are available surplus, so you
Speaker B: don't have to search for.
Speaker C: They're not cheap, but I think they're worth it.
Speaker B: And the other thing that came to
Speaker C: mind this morning, Brian, was that, you know, we're going back to the moon with the Artemis II, the first manned flight to the Moon since 1972. And there is something new happening on this flight. You think we've done it all these times? What could possibly be new? Well, the first toilet is going to the moon.
Speaker B: Yeah, There.
Speaker C: The previous spacecraft did not have a toilet, so this spacecraft has a toilet. So the first commode in orbit around
Speaker B: Luna, there You go. My, my, let's see. In the weightlessness of space. I hope they decided not to go with the bidet option. Yeah, I'm with you on that one.
Speaker C: I'm assuming that there's a whole lot of vacuum involved in the whole thing. They perfected the idea, I think on the space shuttle and on the iss. So yeah, so anyway, the first toilet to the moon. I thought that was a rather interesting thing. Of all the firsts, the launch has been delayed. They're having some trouble with refueling valves. They're not closing or they're not opening or they're not doing whatever it's supposed to be doing. And so they issued a report this morning that they may be delaying the launch by as much as a month. I'm not quite sure just yet, but I'm not following it that closely, but
Speaker B: that raised an eyebrow. Wow, first toilet to the moon.
Speaker C: Boy, that's progress right there, I'll tell you.
Speaker B: All right, have a great morning and
Speaker C: I'll talk to you. KB6SS73
Speaker B: well, you know the provision of indoor plumbing is a sign of a country exiting third country status. So welcome to the moon dwellers and no more trips out to the outhouse. That kind of got a little weird. AC KB6SSN, AI6US thank you for that wonderful trivia bit there. If anybody was worried about how they would use the bathroom when they go to the moon.
Speaker D: To the moon.
Speaker C: Alice.
Speaker B: Good morning, Ray. KK 6:00am
Speaker D: I don't know how I can follow that up. I really can't. Although I guess that makes me like an astronaut. When I was a kid we had to go outdoors to use the restroom.
Speaker B: Sears and Roebuck. Wards or corn?
Speaker D: Sears and Roebuck or newspaper?
Speaker B: The glossy section I'm sure didn't work too good but well, tmi. Too much information right there in a way. Good morning. What do have for us? Ray, that is a hard one to follow up on.
Speaker D: I could give you even more weird information, but I don't think I better. Well, I will. What the hell. During the period of time when I had the newspaper route I went to church every day because churches were not locked back there and they had a indoor.
This is system 25 link shaft.
The gears. Monthly informal breakfast is held on the second Saturday of the month at 9am at the Farmer's Skillet, located at 690 Rio Lindo Ave. Chico. All are welcome to attend. W6RHC repeater checked 1.
D.
Speaker A: Toilet, no problem.
Speaker B: Ah, so because at home you have the outhouse, the bike, trip around the neighborhood. That's interesting that. Number one. Yes, churches are quite often open, but to have them leave the bathrooms open. Maybe some warm water in there as well.
Speaker A: Yes, it was pretty well equipped. I mean, that's of course my other alternative. Except that I would have been tempted to sit and play video games or pool. Well, not video games, slot machines or pool. Or even get rovetune. To play cribbage with the old farmers was to go to the local bar.
Speaker B: One of them. And hence you started drinking before noon.
Speaker A: No, mine was an afternoon route anyway. But and the funny part there is Iowa was a dry state at that time.
Speaker B: I guess somebody forgot to tell the farmers, huh? Yes, indeed. It reminds me of a story of a friend of mine in the film and video production industry who was driving across Texas. It was a hot day, he didn't have air conditioning, his windows were down, and of course he was keeping cool by drinking beverages. And he was pulled over by the Texas, whatever they call them, state police. And he said, boy, didn't you know this was a dry country? And my friend said he probably should not have replied, sir, I hope it rains soon.
Speaker A: Probably not, but that doesn't fit at all in at all with what I heard about Texas law. Open containers are not illegal in Texas. In fact, they're mandatory.
Speaker B: Well, maybe this was a county guy, I don't know. But evidently where he was at, open containers were not allowed. And his father proceeded to send him some money to get him out the next morning.
Speaker A: Yeah, that'll teach people that don't know any better. Yeah, the other thing is, like I say, Iowa was a dry state. They could sell beer or wine. Mixed drinks, never. And if you wanted hard alcohol, you had to go to the state liquor store and buy it. And it wasn't as nice as Utah was, at least back in the 80s and 90s. Yeah, you had to go to the state liquor store, but they were open 24 hours a day.
Speaker B: Yep. There are some weird laws regarding consumption of alcohol. I remember, you know, blue laws down south where, you know, before noon you don't buy alcohol on Sunday morning, but you could drive through and pick up a mixed drink down in Lauderdale. Drive through mixed drinks at the window, Ray, you have a wonderful day. And yeah, I would have stopped and used the church bathroom as well.
Speaker A: Yeah, and by the way, Christina discovered that Tennessee still has some of those bus she needed some wine for cooking on a Sunday morning. Guess what? Can't buy it. Oh, well. 73 Kiki 6am
Speaker B: yeah, you don't want people drinking before noon on the Lord's day, Ray. Have a wonderful day. Good morning, Dan. K N 6WQ. Good morning, Brian.
Speaker C: Let me make sure I got it real quick.
Speaker B: I'm sorry I doubled with you again. Again.
Speaker C: Good morning, Brian and annette.
Speaker B: This is K and 6WQ.
Speaker C: I'm actually out here on a Cuban cigar note. I broke her out of out of retirement, hooked her back up because I got the rat tail going on here. I'm over at O'Reilly's right now. So I'm working on a vehicle here in the parking lot on my way out to Elk Grove. And then I'm gonna go up to Tom and beautiful Auburn. So I don't have too much going on. We still are in the same spot as far as air conditionings go. The AC guy's going to try to call them today and see what's up with that. And then, yeah, just another day in the workplace, another beautiful day in North Highlands.
Speaker B: This is wq. Okay. You had some weird packet loss going on. It almost seemed associated with the amplitude of your voice. So you might double check to see if that Cuban cigar node is if the audio levels are set right. Something was acting a little weird on you there. Well, have a wonderful day. You have beautiful sunshine up here in Meadow Vista, so I'm sure it's the same down in Auburn. And be safe out there. WQ. And yeah, welcome back to the Cuban Cigar node. I don't think I've heard that one on the air in several years. 73.
Speaker C: Yeah, 73, Brian.
Speaker B: I'm a little further away from it,
Speaker C: so that probably is the reason why. This is KS 67273.
Speaker A: All
Speaker B: right, Dan, Have a great day. Hey, Good morning, Dave. K6 at DCL. You're checking in early. This must mean you're headed to go
Speaker A: see the Roto Rooter.
Speaker B: Rut row, k6dcl. Dave, are you there? Oh, we lost dave. Good morning, bill. K6px. Excuse me, pete. Good morning.
Speaker D: Yeah, good morning. You know, after what you said, I call you a snowbird, you know, because
Speaker B: you came from the north and you
Speaker D: moved into a more temperate climate here.
Speaker B: So.
Speaker D: And by the way, it's foggy down here in the valley day. We've had a couple days of such kind. So now the fog is condensed down at sea level here. So anyway, and yeah, you know, we were back in my relative is the chief police of Enterprise, Alabama, and I was talking to him And I find out, well, let's see, you can buy alcoholic beverages in the city, but if you go into the county, well, it's. The county's dry. So if you have more than one case of beer with you, you can consider to be a bootlegger and they'll throw you in jail. So, yeah, there's some odd things that happen throughout those regions. And in fact, they finally, in Alabama there, they dropped their transportation law. That means you couldn't carry a alcoholic beverage from one table to another in a bar. You had to have the employee do it. And I guess they finally dropped that one. But anyway, so that's what we're doing down here. And by the way, I'm using a ICOM U82 transceiver. I said bring it out of storage and use it and, and, and see if I get some service out of it. And I had to get another battery for it and stuff. But anyway, so K6PKO hereby have a
Speaker B: good one from Foggy Mantega. All right, Bill. Yes, indeed. No, I remember, you know, as recent as maybe 15 years ago or so, going over to Utah and, you know, having to buy your bottle next door, bring it inside, and then they would serve you in the private club. You would buy a membership for the evening. Interesting rules out there, for sure. But yes. So I imagine what you're telling me is down in Alabama, all of the police stations had a very good supply of alcohol for their parties.
Speaker D: Yeah, it depends on who you are. In fact, I can tell you a little story. When I was in the US army back in the 60s in Alabama, we go into a bar down there and the guy said, owe me a dollar for membership. I said, okay. So we all gave him a dollar, he says, and we got ready to leave. We got our dollar back when we. When he shipped out of there. The reason for that was because they wanted to keep the blacks out of the bar. So that's how they did it, Casey. Kill.
Speaker B: Yes, indeed. No crazy laws that are used to control many people and many substances. Yeah, the membership, that one has been used many, many times, hasn't it, Bill? You have a great day. Thanks for checking in this morning. K6PX PK I keep looking at that K. My brain says X. Sorry, man. K6PKL AI6US and good morning, Larry. KO6IHJ Morning, Brian. Good morning, Cocktail Freight.
Speaker A: Hope everybody is having a good day. Looks nice out there.
Speaker B: I'm recovering today and working on some radios. I got my energy back. I got a solder job to do here. Tom's cringes in the background. He knows I'm working on it. Other than that, that's it. I'm just gonna take it easy today. Hope everyone has a blessed day. All right, Larry. Well, yeah, sorry to hear that you're still kind of slowly coming back up from the there, but wishing you a good, relaxing day ahead. And yes, keep that soldering iron away from your forehead. That's a pro tip from Smitty. Have a great day, Larry, and Hope you're feeling better. 7 3.
Speaker A: Oh, my.
Speaker B: You'll have to explain that later with the soldering tip to the forehead with Smitty. I like that. K06IHJ7 3. Brian. Oh, I think it's best that you have Smitty in the room. When one of us explains what happened, it has to do with forgetting that you have a soldering iron in your hand and you go to scratch your forehead in a lab. In a lab. All right. Good morning, boy. I have a node keyed up here. Let's see what's going on. All right, we dropped the node. Sorry about that. All right, next up on the list. Good morning, ke8pdo. Good morning.
Speaker E: Good morning, Brian. This is KDHPO Mrs. Sin out in Michigan taking W8LBT to his Coney birthday breakfast. Hope you guys are having a great day out there. I enjoy listening to the zonette and I really enjoy your conversations. Conversational facilitating. This is really excellent. Thank you very much. Thanks for letting me in and I'll talk to you later. Stephanie, please.
Speaker B: Well, very good. As I understand this is a birthday gift for Tim there. So good to hear you on the radio. And I suppose you guys are off to catch lunch. Catch your coneys somewhere nearby. Well, if that microphone. If Tim is near the microphone, go ahead and hand that over. W8LDT. I believe birthday wishes are in order. Well, thank you there, Brian. This is W8LDT. Yes, so far, so good. Wonderful day. Yes, we're going for our Coney Islands. And I think she might even buy today. My, my, my. You must be something special. Well, happy birthday to you and you have a wonderful day. And thanks for checking in this morning. And I just want to thank your wonderful wife for making that birthday wish come true. I believe you had said Cindy. Is that. Is that your wife's name?
Speaker E: Yep, this is the JEO. Or as Jim likes to call me, JD8. Pretty darn old.
Speaker B: Oh, and you're still buying him lunch. That's true love, Cindy. True love. Well, you Have a wonderful day. Drive safely guys and enjoy your, your special birthday lunch there. Tim and Cindy, thanks for checking in this morning. 7373 Brian. Thanks a lot. W8LD clear. All right now that's cool. Hey, you know what? Let's go ahead and wish Tim a very happy birthday. Everyone out there, this is your time to create a kerfuffle and heterodyne and wish Tim a very happy birthday. Happy birthday, Tim. Ai6us. Please join me, folks. Happy birthday.
Speaker D: Happy birthday.
Speaker F: Happy birthday, Jim.
Speaker B: All right, through all of that, through all that heterodyne there, Tim. Happy birthday to you and have a wonderful day. Clearing with W8LDT and KE8 PDO. And let's check in now with Greg Ko6th. Good morning, Greg.
Speaker F: Good morning.
Speaker A: Oh God.
Speaker F: Got my Greek lesson going here. Good morning and everyone. Ko6th lovely morning. Getting up and rummaging through the various things that have happened over the night, email and stuff. And got some chores to do today in terms of outings, whatchamacallit shopping and recycling and yeah, so it's a busy day. I was gonna go down work on the boat today, but just got too much stuff to do here so gotta do the around the house stuff. And good reminder, I've got a bucket of old bird seed that needs to go in the feeder. It's been a little while since I filled that thing up. Let's see if the squirrels still can manage to stay away from it. Ko6th, back to you.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, that fight of nature. Who gets the bird seed? And then I saw a video the other day where the moose got the bird seed. Just knocked it down and enjoyed munching it off the ground. Well, good morning, Greg. Thank you so much for being part of the Elmer team last night. A great group and I must say the energy last night was exceptional. You know, we always have a great ve session and great elbowing happening going on. But last evening I thought that it was especially energetic group and just a fun session. Thank you for being part of it.
Speaker F: Yeah, they're always pretty exciting people getting upgrades and new licenses and it's great to be part of that energy that they feel when they pass the test. So I think we had everybody walked away with something good. So that was quite an accomplishment on their part and we just sat around and watched it happen. So anyway, looking forward to next time and yeah, it's a great program. Sneaky way of getting us to get owned or own a specific candidate. Wasn't expecting that. I've got some comments on it but it worked out I guess and we'll see how things evolve down the road. But anyway, on with the day and everybody have a good one. K06th
Speaker B: yeah, that was just an idea that Graydon come up with. I thought it was a good idea to kind of make sure that everybody got good attention and you know, we worked with them all the way through this signing process and everything. So yeah, I'm sure we'll fine tune it a bit and I'm sure Graydon would appreciate any feedback that you, you have on that process. Greg have a wonderful day and oh, the boat has already been set. The boat project has already been set aside for the realities of life. It happens. It happens. Ko6thai6us have a great day.
Speaker F: 7373 Brian and yeah, it's, I mean there's not a whole, there wasn't anything specific I needed to do on the boat today so I figured, you know, I've got more stuff to get and organize and I got to get in touch with the Berkeley marina and there's a guy down there that does the electric conversions so get started on that and get things ordered. I haven't had a chance to contact him yet but anyway with the date KO 6:73
Speaker B: oh, before you start ripping into that, that engine I would start taking her sailing for a little bit first. Get some enjoyment before you, before you rip it apart and have to have to sit in a sit and dry dock for a bit. So anyway, just a word of advice. Take every opportunity you can to enjoy time on the water in your boat rather than working on it. Have a great day. Greg Clearing with Ko6th I'm Brian Ai6us and welcome to the Coffee Breaknet on the W6ek repeater. And just let's go ahead and take regular check ins. If you are short on time let me know that you need to be in quickly and please check in as a quick in and out and I will put you at the top of the list. Good morning. Welcome to the Coffee Breaknet. Taking check ins. Again.
And 6 grt 36 local.
And 16.
K, 7g and d and 6kne.
Okay, 7G and D and 6kn.
W.
Speaker A: All right, we heard N9MUF. Good morning, Daniel. And K6DCL decided to turn the radio back on. Good morning, Dave. Again. All right. Did I miss anyone? Boy, that's pretty skinny. Check ins for 8:30.
Speaker B: Hey, I texted you, Brian. I think you skipped over me. Story of my life. K6DXN.
Speaker A: I did. And you think that was accidental? Sorry, man. K60XN. I'll put you at the top. I did. I skipped over you. Sorry about that. And my phone is not in the room with me. Error number two of the morning. All right, anyone else? Just a quick recheck and your audio is sounding better. Tim. W8LDT. All right, let's see. I'm going to do the recheck first and then we'll go Simone and then go in order. Go ahead, Tim.
Speaker B: You answered my question. I was wondering how my audio was. I know I had some clicking or
Speaker A: something going on in there and I
Speaker B: was just wondering how it was going.
Speaker A: So thank you. Have a great day.
Speaker B: I'm glad you enjoyed vent testing last night. WHLDP clear.
Speaker A: And then on that transmission it came back. It's a clocking coming out of some device. So yeah, it. It came back with a vengeance. So little more. And you thought you were just going to enjoy a piece of cake on your birthday. Time to troubleshoot. And let's check in with Simone. K6DXN. I saw a couple of. Couple of videos come up on YouTube yesterday. Looks like you guys had a outing. Good morning.
Speaker B: Yeah, I know it wasn't. I know it wasn't accidental, but that's okay. I still love you. You do a great job with the net. So I'll give you a pass. Kind of like you did me. Yeah, it went good. Band conditions were not stellar, but I just put up a little 29 foot n fed on my poda explorer poll and we got, you know, our 17 contacts in about an hour, which is not killing it. But it went good. What was I going to say? Oh, carrot cake. I'm a big fan as well. Sounds like you are too. Let me reset and the. There's a place my daughter took me to. We have little bets during football season. You know, a loser buys breakfast. And she took me to a place in Placerville that does breakfast protein shake and we had the carrot cake breakfast protein shake. Killer stuff, man.
Speaker A: You know, on the surface that sounds unappetizing. Kind of right up there with licking the bottle. You know that the green grass, the alfalfa healthy drink that you often see. But because it has carrot cake in the name. I might give it a try, even if it is green.
Speaker B: No, it's not. It's not. Some kale, but it's not a smoothie. Green, weird, you know, tree hugger smoothie. It's more of a shake. No, I promise you, it. It tastes like exactly what it sounds like. It's carrot cake. It's frosty, it's good. It's not some weird green thing.
Speaker A: Okay, you hooked me. You hooked me. Absolutely. Simone, what is the name of this place in Placer Hill? Do you recall?
Speaker B: I have to text my daughter. All they do is protein, like breakfast shakes. I guess maybe they have lunch, but they have coffee based ones and they have milk based ones. I'll ask her the name and I'll text it to you. And I wanted to congratulate my good friend K06BMA. Bend my antenna. He texted me on his way home from your session and I've been, I've been razzing him and razzing him, you know, about passing his General. So he texted me on the way home last night and he is a stroke ag.
Speaker A: And he did extremely well. We don't share people's scores, but I'll just say he did exceptionally well on his test. And yeah, big shout out to Garrett KO6BMA, new general I was mentioning earlier last evening we have three new technicians, two general upgrades and two extra upgrades. So what a privilege to help folks and especially when a friend like Garrett comes through and man, he was happy last time. Yep.
Speaker B: Now I can, I can help him out. He's got an 891. I've taken them. We've gone up to Tahoe and activated and he did an activation with me and Donner passed and I've been, you know, trying to Elmer him along and now, now we can get him on the air with his 891. I know he's got an end for Fed up there in Camino Placerville and I'm really happy for him. I know he worked hard at it, so. Right on. Congrats to him. And oh, my other question was Dan brought up a 950. Man, Yaesu's turning into Baofeng. They got new radio every week. What can you tell me about. Not that I'm a Yaesu guy, it's probably some touch screen, you know, unobtainium radio for the blind, but what, what is the 950 Pro and. Or the 950 what's. What's the what's the skinny on that radio and the price point?
Speaker A: No, the radio that, that Dan was talking about is the Rad Tel RadTel 950 Pro. And actually I believe it's going to be quite accessible, quite accessible for. Because I know the Radtel 800 or 880 is quite accessible and so this radio is just a continuation of that. It allows transmit on 10 meters and above. HT form factor kind of on the larger side, but it's certainly one that has my interest. It can scan, you can listen much lower in frequency, I think down to 40 meters, but you can only transmit 10 meters and above. It's a fascinating little HD radio and quite the good price point. And Radtel seems to be making a real impact in HTs.
Speaker B: Okay, all right. For some reason I thought you said yaesu and I, I googled or I did a search. I guess There is a Yaesu 950 because one came up. My mistake. Now I've got Jimmy looking for a radio that doesn't exist. All right, Yeah, I don't need another HT, man. I've got HT's brand new in the box. I've never even opened an FT60, a pair of those Baofeng minis. Yeah, no more HTs for this kid. All right, Brian, I'll let you get someone else. And thanks for taking my check in. Probably go do another PODA this week but I think the band conditions are going to be rough for a couple days is what I'm hearing. So I will talk to you later. Have a great rest of your day, sir. K6DXN
Speaker A: well, you know, when the bands are tough because of these solar flares during the day, you know, I know you have a setup at home. I would just encourage you to get on the bands after dark while the noise level can be quite high and weird ionospheric conditions are happening like right now, we're under almost an M2 event right now but nighttime there can be some very interesting openings happening so keep an eye on that on the dark part of the day. Simone, always a pleasure to have you drop by. I do apologize for skipping over you. I had you on paper but for some reason when I was transferring you into the log after your check in, I did not put it in the log so I do apologize. I don't intentionally skip over people usually. Have a great day. Simone, always a pleasure. Let's see. Parks in the dark. That's what people want to look for, isn't it?
Speaker B: Yep, yep. I'VE been putting up I've been putting up as many videos as I can. I'm not in the videos, which is a bonus unless Jimmy shoots them on his GoPro. I I do them on my Ray Bans my metas. So just trying to get content up there to keep it keep it active. Thanks for the promotion. The Shameless plug
Speaker A: Yep, Parks in the dark. Check out what Simone and others are activating and yeah, it's through the eyes of meta. I like it. K6DXN, AI6US Coffee Breaknet and and let's head on back to Illinois. Let's bust through the ice and through the snow drifts in nine oh I'm sorry Da da da da da K6DCL I promised Dave to be up first. Sorry, step away from the mic Daniel Good morning Dave. K6DCL
Speaker C: you got me. You keep me laughing. That's why I love the coffee break and its participants keep me laughing. Anyway, good morning Brian, Good morning everybody. K60CL here and I'm staring at a new Radtel for me model RT 1313 ones but 400 and 480 MHz and it is about the smallest thing I've ever seen. I don't have a ruler with me but because if I did I'd tell you how how long it is but it looks like about 3 inches without a half an inch antenna. It's a FPRESS radio meant for usage in small areas like small hotels, things like that movie theaters. If they're still in existence they just wiped out ours and Sonora. No more movie theaters. And so I was asked by Rattail if I didn't mention it. It's a Rattail radio. I was asked by Rattail if I would test it out and believe it or not they must have heard me on the coffee break map so I'm going to be putting it through its works. I've already started some of it in regular testing equipment and not much to do with it. You can go through the channels and you can press the it's got a button on the front of the face of it for the X for keying it up and the mic is on the front and where I put my right handed so where I put it my finger it covers up the mic. I don't know. I don't know. But anyway charging is on the top next to the antenna and it is a USB C so that's about it. That's what I'm doing. I put my car back together again from cleaning it out and Then goes back in and connections and antennas and stuff like that. I just decided to redo the whole thing. So that's what I've been doing. K6DCO back. Back to you Brian. Okay.
Speaker A: Yeah, I looked up the Radtel RT13. I have a couple of questions on it. Of course you know I do have my FRS license or my GMRS license but I don't know I have I used it yet I'm not sure. So I would be interested in it if they are providing programming software so we can put this over to amateur radio frequency. So that's my first question. Is there availability of programming software from Radtel? Number two, does the earpiece come with it? And number three I'm scared because it has vox feature. We could hear some interesting conversations. Just wondering how easy it is to defeat the vox. Oh and very cool thing it is USB type C charging. So gotta love that as that's coming out on more and more radios. So any input on on a couple of those items.
Speaker C: That's what I get for not reading the manual. I have it right here. I didn't know it had box. I thought I probably got in trouble already. So I imagine it's pretty much you can turn it off. It has a couple of functions but not too. My brain was over abused yesterday so I forgot the second one which I did have an answer for which was A and anyway yeah so USBC works wonderfully in charging charges quickly and tell me what your second question was because that was A important and B I had a positive answer.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was asking if they provided a programming software because I see it comes programmed with 22 channels of FRS and so I was wondering about software or a way to program it for amateur radio frequencies and you know honestly you're not getting a lot of radio for the price. I'm not impressed with the price for the what you're getting but you may see it differently.
Speaker C: Well you're I, I. That's the first thing I thought of. So of course I didn't pay that but so it didn't bother me at all. But you're right, I don't know why they charged that much. I'm gonna have to ask them. Price point does seem a little bit high and as far as the spot for is concern I know they have software but I'm not sure they have software for this radio so I'll have to find that out. I've written it down so I can ask them stating that it's an important question and I'm not so sure how that you could change it to amateur band. And even though it's riding and they have the frequency right on it. Yeah. So it's 400 through 480. So one would think one could put it in the ambient radio section. Boy, my finger gets weak.
Speaker A: Well, absolutely. I've gotten some radios from factories before when I was selling Bluetooth devices and one of the ones that I have is a Dick Tracy watch. It's actually a small digital watch that's no bigger than. It's smaller than most digital watches that you see on the market right now. And it's a 1 watt UHF radio that was designed for FRS. But the factory gave me programming software so I could put any amateur radio frequency in the 400 meg 440 band. So that's why I was asking.
Speaker B: So I would
Speaker A: ask them if they can provide you don't ask about the availability, just ask them can you provide me programming software for this? So you know, because I'm an amateur radio operator. See what their reply is.
Speaker C: Well, cool.
Speaker A: RT 13. Yes. The price point is not that great. Nice little form factor. I love that it's USB C chargeable and I think this is just one more. One more radio. I'm amazed at how many radios Radtel is out. So quite a variety. Well, good morning to you. Good morning to Lucy and yeah, she had commented how small it was as well.
D.
W e6a x n repeater.
Speaker A: Really small.
Speaker B: I couldn't believe it was the radio. Looked like a pacifier. Speaking of which, our grandson and his. Let me put it this way, our grandson's wife, who did most of all the work, just had a baby around just around midnight, but born the 2nd of February, 2nd of February and last night and we were just happy as heck. But that poor woman, I tell you, she was in labor for 24 hours. I never heard of anybody being in labor for 24 hours, but she came out of it and she tried to squeak a smile in one of the pictures. Talk to you later. K6DCL.
Speaker A: After 24 hours of labor, you wouldn't catch me smiling. Boy, even if my wife was in labor for 24 hours, I don't think anybody in the room would be smiling. Oh my gosh. Hey, congratulations on the new. The new grandchild there. How awesome. A new child in the family. Hey, we had a comment in there. Go ahead. Comment. Off of the east coast hub Fireside Network, We had a comment coming in from east coast hub Fireside Network. All right, guess they do not have a comment. Hey, have a wonderful day there, Dave. Thanks for checking in and good morning to Lucy and we will catch you another morning. Thank you for the update on your new device, the RT 13. RT 13 from Radtel and we'll look forward to your future replies on that. K6GCL AI6 US Coffee Breaknet 73. Okay, Daniel, you can start your dash across the room starting now. N9 MUF called the mic again. Good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning, Brian and the net. I am laughing here because there was a bit of a panic because I was trying. Our dog was needing to go out and get food. You know, she was getting the. I woke up. Why won't you pay attention to me bark. And so I'm sitting here trying to figure out, you know, how I'm going to grab the microphone while I'm also got my hands dealing with her because well, of course she's a basset, so she's a handful.
Speaker A: Then you have the cat and then you have the wife and then you. Well, I'm glad we could lessen the load for you this morning and get you back into sequence here. Good morning. What do you have for us this morning, Daniel?
Speaker C: Well, I'm curious. Feed the birds. Does that come out of the Mary Poppins song or is there another motivation for it?
Speaker A: You know, I've seen Mary Poppins, but not enough to quote lyrics. Fill me in here.
Speaker C: It's a song that she sings to the children as they're trying to. As they're going to sleep. You know, it's basically a go to sleep kind of song. And it's just feed the birds. And that's the core line there, that. The cadence of it with the whole feed the birds stay. I was just wondering if the two were related.
Speaker A: Not that I'm aware of. Let's see. Reading the little asterisk at the bottom of the feed the birds day.
Speaker B: Oh.
Speaker A: Brought to you by the Feline Council.
Speaker C: Okay, that is just way too funny. Feed the birds so that we can feed the cats.
Speaker A: Exactly. Well, you know, we used to have a cat growing up. We had a cat whose favorite place would be inside the window watching the bird feeder. And it was an indoor outdoor cat. And that cat definitely knew where to hang out. It would crouch and wait for a bird to drop down off of that feeder to start bringing stuff off the ground. And I just won't describe what happened next.
Speaker C: Oh, I very much understand it. Our cats are indoor, but it's always fun to watch them when they get to a window sill and are just fascinated. It's either birds or squirrels.
Speaker A: Yeah, we had a. We had a cat who specialized in rewarding us a squirrel once in a while. I never saw it happen, but the squirrel, I don't think typically won, but that kind of surprised me. Only one cat that I've ever owned that was a squirrel hunter.
Speaker C: Maeve's predecessor was not much of a hunter at all. He continually chided her that she was very definitely not earning her keep. But Maeve has caught several mice, and one time she caught the mouse and was sitting there waiting for me to come down to drum, and she's just sitting there by the drums, sitting next to the mice, looking up at me going, I got it. I got it. And I know she hadn't killed the mouse near there.
Speaker A: Yeah. Then you have the sadistic cats, the ones that just kind of knock them silly and kind of give them mouth to mouth and a little bit of resuscitation, a little bit of rest, and so they can have round two, three, four. Yeah, We've all owned the sadistic cats as well, I'm sure.
Speaker C: I don't think Mamie's predecessor was sadistic. She would do that. I think it was just incompetent. I caught it. What do I do with it now?
Speaker A: Can I trade this for some liquors, please? I don't know. We haven't owned a cat for a number of years, and I'm kind of seeing these ads Pop up all over the place for the Lickables. So have you gotten these little. They kind of look like Otter Pops for cats?
Speaker C: Oh, we've got. We've used one. Churro is the brand name. Absolutely loves it.
Speaker A: I don't know if they were starving these cats before they filmed the advertisements, but. But, man, they were going crazy over these Lickables, so. Okay, I will take your word for it that the cats love them and they're not just starving.
Speaker C: I know our current floor weasel is definitely not starving, but my wife will call out to her name the brand, and Maeve will come running.
Speaker A: Let's see what else.
Speaker C: American Painters Day. My favorite would be Grant Wood, actually.
Speaker A: Okay, fill me in on who Grant Wood is and what style or what is this? Tell us more.
Speaker C: He was an Iowa painter. The most famous painting everybody has seen, either it or a variant of it, is American Gothic.
Speaker A: Okay, Absolutely have seen that, but I did not. Did not know who Grant Wood was. Okay, very good. So how did you run across Grant Wood? And, yeah, I'm looking him up feverishly here, so I can see if I'm familiar with other works he's done.
Speaker C: My first exposure was a parody of American Gothic, which I think more of us have seen the parodies than we have the original. But then I had to take an art appreciation class as part of my gen ed in college, and we went on a field trip down to the Art Institute in Chicago. So I've gotten to see the original.
Speaker A: Well, very good. Yeah, it was funny. We actually had some neighbors growing up that looked like that couple.
Speaker C: I think that is a characteristic of Lutheran or Methodist farmers where it's a requirement that they have to look like that.
Speaker A: Yeah, I've always looked at their clothes and just wondered if that was their daily dress or they grabbed the pitchfork and. And just had arrived home from church. I somehow think that based on the description that this was probably their modest work clothing.
Speaker C: Well, it was his sister and a neighbor that he actually painted in there. It wasn't the people who owned the house at the time.
Speaker A: You know, a lot more information than I do. Of course, I've reposed this several times. You know, as you know, I've. I was into film and video production for a number of years, and I have put people into these poses with things other than pitchforks through the years. So, yes, we've all kind of parodied this one.
Speaker C: It's one of those paintings that I think just will live on and on. And again, I think the parodies are in the end far more popular than the original but it says something about the original that is able to inspire parody.
Speaker A: In fact, I remember I think MAD magazine had a love affair with American Gothic. I remember several takeoffs through the years.
Speaker C: Oh yeah, MAD magazine, absolutely. I think my first parody was a board game that I got from Steve Jackson games when I was in high school and the COVID of the game was a parody of and then National Carrot Cake Day. I know you're a fan of it. For me eating it when my wife doesn't make make it as problematic since people like to put walnuts in it and actually I had asked if there were walnuts in the carrot cake at one restaurant. They said no, no, we don't put it in. There's no walnuts in there. And I get it and I start to consume it and get about halfway through it and I realize oh no, there's walnuts in there.
Speaker A: Oh no. You know I have to be very careful about my walnut consumption. Something that about the oil if I have too many of them I will definitely My gums start getting sore and and yeah it some reaction though it sounds like yours is much more serious than that. I'm going to put a quick shout out somebody who has just come back come on frequency in the last five minutes you are beaconing aprs on the repeater. So I don't know if anybody out there is monitoring who has apron aprs turned on but you are beaconing aprs through the repeater. Back over to you Daniel.
Speaker C: All good. And I should probably start to wind up. Hope it's a good radio day. I think that a lot of the reasons the bands are dead is because people look at it and go well I'm not even going to try and you just got to remind people look the bands will always have some activity if you just call CQ so job search in the morning finish building the paddle in the and I get it getting it hooked up had an issue with V band that got sorted out. I have a I. I know that I am old school because I get a Macintosh and the first thing I install on it is carabiner so that I can get my alt and my control keys where my fingers expect them to be.
Speaker A: My oh my. You know I'm sure Mr. Apple is rolling in his grave right now. Yeah. No, you know the thing about these events, these solar events. Yes, we are in a very intense solar event right now. Just looked and we are now an M2 event and it's expected to be climbing and we may Actually have a very significant event coming up here, they say. But you know, it's all about band choice. You know, maybe you're not going to be working DX on 10 meters during the middle of the day or you might get that weird flutter opening throughout the day. But yet it's all about band choice and time of day. You know, a lot of people will just put the radio away and because it doesn't fit there, you know. Well, I operate, you know, 15 meters only. Well, yeah, that's going to be limiting for you. Hey, Daniel, have a wonderful day. Happy Tuesday.
Speaker C: The sun is shining, the birds are frozen, the cat is keeping my lap warm. It will be a good day. And speaking of bands, I'm noticing that there's a good opening on 10 meters to Europe right now. It looks like 10 and 17 are open and 20 is getting some decent coverage as well. So, you know, I think it's always worth a shot getting on there, calling CQ and doing what you can. Because if there's anything that will kill the bands, it's no activity. 7 3U and the net Brian and 9 MUF.
Speaker A: You know, and you've heard me preach this before and I'm going to say it again. I think band scopes, waterfalls, the best thing. So when you're spinning vfo, you know, you're spinning in the direction of activity. But I also think that the spectrum displays and waterfalls are one of the worst things ever in our hobby because people are looking for others to transmit instead of calling cq. And it's kind of hard to hear or see people on your scope if they're not transmitting. Everybody's just waiting on somebody else to talk first. So a great tool, but I think it's actually damaging the hobby. I don't know. Challenge me on that one if you wish. Daniel in 9fai6u.s. You have a wonderful day. 7:3. Good morning. Coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping. Gonna put out a quick club club meeting plug here for those in the greater Sacramento area area. Or if you want to join us on zoom up on February 13th, we're going to have a presentation on Mesh core. And Mesh core is kind of the next generation of mesh which has ability to manage larger geographic areas and more data. It is based on a repeater system rather than a peer to peer. It can be operated in a peer to peer mode, but the repeater system allows you to kind of direct your traffic and it just is more like what we are used to as ham radio operators to be working, you know, primarily through a repeater or to go over to Simplex for peer to peer. Anyway. N5JEF Jeff will be given a presentation on that and we recently installed mesh core in our vault location transmitter vault location in Auburn. We also have improving coverage throughout the west side of, excuse me, the east side of the Sacramento Valley. So join us on February 13th either in person at our new digs. We are meeting up the Placer County HHS Conference center in Auburn on the DeWitt Center. Easy access from Bell Road. So take I80 to Bell Road and then follow directions over to the Placer County Health and Human Center Conference Center. We're going to be meeting February 13th at 7:30pm and this is going to be an open house, brand new location for time meeting there and we're inviting everyone to come out and join us. If you can't be here in person, join us on Zoom. And you can join us on Zoom by going over to the w6ek.org website clicking on Join Zoom Meeting and it will be a great presentation by Jef on mesh core. Good morning. Coffee breakdown on the WC EK repeater. Let's go ahead and take a quick round of in and outs and then we'll get back into some rag shoe. Anybody out there for a quick in and out as you start your day? I'm Brian AI6us. Welcome to the Coffee Breaknet. N2DYI Whiskey Uniform 6 Hotel. KJ5 Golf Whiskey Sorry I'm late.
Speaker C: Brian
Speaker B: out.
Speaker A: Just listening. I appreciate you all. Thank you so much.
Speaker B: Okay,
Speaker C: for a quick question, please. Kn6rfb.
Speaker A: Hey, good morning Scott gam6rf.
Wb6ca, this is n7rsn.
The Gears Net will be held Tuesday night starting at 7:30pm all amateur radio operators are welcome to join in on the net W6 RHC repeater check 2.
One.
And 6 grt 36 local. Back again. I had the antenna and a different radio.
Speaker A: And we have Jimmy for a recheck. K83 VGM. And then I have KJ5GWN. Good morning there Will. Nobody is taking attendance records here. You're on time. We're still having annette. Good morning Wu6h. Good morning Ryan. And good morning. Good after.
Speaker B: Well, no.
Speaker A: Good morning Patrick. N2DYI. All right, there was a station checking in through the East Coast Hub 5 who said you were just listening. Unfortunately you doubled in with somebody. Your call sign and location please. Good morning Brian, this is Mike. Call signs KF8EVN, Kilo, Foxtrot8, Echo Victor November. I'm calling from Parkersburg, West Virginia and I'll be in and out. I appreciate it.
Speaker C: Thank you, sir.
Speaker A: All right, Mike. Well, thank you for dropping by from West Virginia this morning. Keela, Foxtrot8, Echo Victor November. And yeah, we're here every day of the week and so drop on by anytime. We're here 7:30am to 10:00am Pacific time. So thanks for joining us this morning. Got you checked in for in and out. All right, let's head on to the top of the list. And this will be quick in and out. So two minutes or less please. Into dyi. Good morning Patrick. And quite a few developments on the, on the all star front. Good morning.
Speaker D: Good morning, Brian. Yeah, turns out that the latest versions of HAM can in fact connect two nodes starting with seven. Tom and I discovered that. Actually Tom pointed that out to me yesterday after the net. So rejoice, rejoice. You still have a little more time.
Speaker A: Okay, so. But as we move to additional numbers, increasing number of numerical values. Is this going to. I mean this addressed the use of 7 but as more node numbers are required, is this going to require some reworking of Hamvoip?
Speaker D: Probably eventually, but it's not the dire omg it's going to break tomorrow's situation that we thought it was going to be.
Speaker A: Okay, that is great news and I'm glad to hear that clearnote is on top of it. That would have been, that would have been a game, let's just say difficult situation. Well, good morning Patrick. Thanks for checking in this morning and I appreciate you bringing us the news so everybody could kind of be aware of it. 10,000 foot level view of last night's all nodes net.
Speaker B: Well,
Speaker D: it wasn't my net so I was kind of answering questions as they came in. Let's see, Don WA2IWC came in with an interesting question. I set up a radio node for him a couple months ago and it's using USB Radio to inject and decode the PL tone instead of the. Instead of doing it from the radio side. And we did it that way because we wanted to use reverse burst to stop squelch crashes from happening. So there were some questions about that. He had a couple of radios that wouldn't decode, so he went into USB radio, the tune CLI for it turned up the PL deviation and that broke some other.
Speaker A: We were trying to figure out what
Speaker D: was going on there. There were some questions about the clear node and the new node thing, which it turns out right now is a non issue, fortunately. And let's see, there were various observations. The extended nodes are doing very, very well. I did not hear any packet loss whatsoever last night. It was smooth as butter. And so there were some comments about that. There were a few other things that came up as well. So overall it was a good net.
Speaker A: All right. And I know you were kind of monitoring. We don't know how many people were listening, but how many nodes were connected. Because I know that we used to have problems once we, you know, neared the 70 or 80 nodes. We would start really, you know, having packet loss even with the virtual nodes connected. But do you have any idea of how many nodes were connected in last evening? The highest number I saw was 90.
Speaker D: There may have been more at some point, But I saw 96 at one point and it was fantastic.
Speaker A: All right, that's some good results there. Well, excellent. Well, good morning to you, Patrick. I know I steered you through down a path of reporting on something that you weren't net control on, but anything else for the net today?
Speaker D: Not really. Just kind of hoping. I get a call from the dentist office today. Kind of not sure that's going to happen, but would like to get this done sooner rather than later. They were not in the office yesterday, so they said, yeah, we're going to try to be in the office today and start calling people to reschedule stuff. So give me that phone call.
Speaker A: Well, let's hope they can get that scheduled in. You know, nothing like dealing with a root canal in pain waiting for them to get back into the office for sure. Well, good morning to you there, Patrick. You have a wonderful day ahead and let's hope that folks. PHONE RINGS soon.
Speaker D: All right, Brian, thanks for having me. And good to hear you all again this here afternoon. Now that it is 73ai6us n2d yi
Speaker A: I always forget what time zone y' all in back there.
Speaker E: Thank you very much.
Speaker A: Have a great day, Patrick. N2DYI. Good afternoon, hey, good morning, Ryan. Wu6h. I assume you're in California.
Speaker C: I am indeed. Good morning, Brian. Eminet.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker C: Went to the DMV yesterday, got a real id, Was there for two and a half hours.
Speaker D: Oh my gosh.
Speaker C: Should have taken Graden's advice and driven to Grass Valley and back because the net time I would have saved and then. Oh yeah, turn my note off.
Speaker A: Yeah, DMV visits are not that fun. Hopefully you took all of your paperwork to prove that you actually had utilities. And I heard that you had to wait for your Hawaiian birth certificate. Are those real? I thought they weren't.
Speaker C: Correct. It's still sitting here in the car. And it doesn't say birth certificate anywhere. It only says certificate of live birth. So I'm not even sure I'm legit a United States citizen.
Speaker A: Well, we won't bring it into question unless you run for public office.
Speaker C: That's funny. Anyway, that's all I've got. Wu6h73.
Speaker A: All right, Ryan, you survived. And hopefully you have a real ID in your wallet now. Yeah, that's crazy. That TSA is going to want to charge a handling fee if you don't have real id. That's extortion. We don't want them there in the first place. I don't know. Yes, I do. I don't like exploding Tennis shoes. W6H AI6US. You know, I. We had a recheck and I just missed that there. Recheck. Jimmy Ka6 VGM. Go ahead.
Speaker B: Thanks for. I will hold this all. I just wonder if your presentation on Fescor will be allowed to be recorded because with the time difference, I will not be awake by the time you guys start film presentation. But I would like to learn more about Best Core as I know nothing about Best Core or Fishtastic for that matter. And I would like to learn about both of those. So I did wonder if that'll be recorded to be available later. Thank you. K3VG. I'm back. Next.
Speaker A: Yes, Jimmy, we record probably 99% of our presentations are recorded. So expect to see that within a week or two after. Usually it's within a week or so after, so probably third week of the month you will see that on our YouTube channel. So that's the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club and we have quite an extensive library of presentations. So expect to see it there, Jimmy. Probably about a week after the presentation.
Speaker B: Thanks, Brian. I appreciate the information. Like I said, I know nothing about those subjects, so I'll be good Or K for region. I'M clear.
Speaker A: All right, Jimmy, have a wonderful day. Thanks for the recheck and good Morning to Will, KJ5 Golf Whiskey November. Good morning, sir. What do you have for the net today?
Speaker B: Good morning, Brian. Sorry I'm late. I had to go make a pharmacy run today and I got that done and got back home and now I'm eating a little lunch and then we'll see what the rest of the day brings. Not doing too much here. It's 45 degrees here, going up to high 57. It is going to be a little bit cooler today, but not much. Laura's supposed to. So we're finally out of the deep freeze. I think so. Anyway, back over there to you, Brian. This is KJ5 Golf Whiskey November.
Speaker A: Out of the deep freeze this time, but I'm wondering if that's going to be it for the winter. I wish you well and yeah, no worries. The net's still going on for half an hour, a little over half an hour. So. Yeah, you're, you're well within the log there. Pleasure to hear you. Check in this morning, Will. KJ5GWN, Oklahoma City AI6US Coffee Break 73 will.
Speaker B: 73 spraying. This is KJ5 Gulf Fiscal. We have a clear listening.
Speaker A: And. Good morning, Scott.km6rfb. Great to see you at the breakfast on Saturday morning. What do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker B: Not much.
Speaker E: Out of curiosity, how do you copy down here in Rancho Cordova
Speaker A: off Sunrise? Well, your audio is a little weak. Your Signal is about 75% into the repeater. Just a little bit of white noise, but full copy on you there.
Speaker E: Copy. Thank you, I appreciate it. I just set up a radio here at our headquarters office and I'm running off of an Ed Fong J pole stuck to the window of a two story concrete building and just wanted to
Speaker A: make sure it would work, Will, if it stuck to the window of one of those prefab buildings. I imagine there's a lot of metallic materials in that window, so it's. Yeah, sometimes it's hard to get signals through them. So. Yeah, doing well. All right. Hey, I was just going to suggest. I know you're probably looking for another repeater that would service the Aries. And I was just wondering if you have considered the 1 4, 5, 3, 10. That is 6 Li's repeater up here. Multiple repeaters are tied into it. 220442 meters and that's the one that is. He has really repeaters. I think six or seven different repeaters including 10 meters tied into it.
Speaker E: No, I didn't know about it. Hey, can you, I don't have anything to write with right now. Can you text me that information or just a real brief and I will look at. Hey, I also want to, I also want to check in for our station call here at work which is Whiskey Alpha 6, Delta Mike, Sierra, WA6DMS.
Speaker A: All right, I will put that on the log there Scott. WA6DMS. And that would be Cal OES. Correct.
Speaker E: That would be the California Emergency Medical Service Authority.
Speaker A: Not. Oh yes, I'm sorry, wrong, wrong group there. Excellent. I have, you have it in the log there and I will get that information over to you. I think you know it's six, six or seven different repeaters on different bands and it's, it's a quote quite, quite well maintained system by John Everston. So I think yeah, you should reach out and I think it would give you some great coverage for a secondary repeater. You have a wonderful day Scott. Thanks for checking in and hopefully health wise you are doing better my friend.
Speaker E: I am took care of everything.
Speaker A: Hopefully this week will be a much
Speaker E: better week for me through all the stuff. So I appreciate it. I will let you get on with the net. I know this was a quick in and out. So this is kilo mike6 romeo, foxtrot, round, little
Speaker A: back to net. I must say from that part of town with the J pole taped to the inside of a window. That's a pretty good signal. I'm impressed. So it just shows you that in case of emergency it doesn't have to be optimal but it's working well. Have a great day Scott. Clearing with KM6 RFB. I'm AI6US and welcome to the Coffee Breaknet. Let's go ahead and take regular check ins. If you're short on time please let me know. You need to be in and out. I will put you at the top of the list for check ins. Welcome to the Coffee Breaknet. Who's out there? Kilo, oscar, six, lima, golf, papa glenn. Good morning risti. Bravo six, golf, uniform, yankee, jungle.

That's Whiskey Bravo Six, Golf, Uniform, Yankee.
Speaker E: Look at fencing in El Dorado Hills again.
Speaker A: All right, Joel, WB6 GUI. Got you down for in and out. And let's see. KO6, LGP. Good morning, Glenn. Got you down. And let's see, at the beginning, there was a Kilo Golf 6 station. Who is that? Yeah, Frank, if that's you, your note is keying up, but you have no, no audio. You have no audio, so you might want to check that out and then we'll come back to you. Who did I miss out there? November 6th, Uniform of Whiskey Quebec.
Of26 link up.
It. Is this GRG testing, but can't hear anything right now.
Speaker A: Sm 6xgep for in and out.
Speaker B: All right. And good morning to Tony or afternoon SM6XGP. And good morning, Gary. N6Uwq. And let's see, did I miss anyone else? Otherwise we'll go up and work through starting with our in and outs. Six echo bravo quebec. All right, I have Stephen in there, K06EBQ. And there was another station in there with Stephen. Or was it my imagination? KG9M. Were you trying to check in? I guess not. Okay, see, let's see if K. Let's see. K06 LGP. I'm sorry. Just trying to get my notes together. No, first up for in n out will be Joel. WB6G Y. Good morning, Joel. What do you have for the net this morning?
Speaker C: Well, good.
Speaker B: I just walked through the construction zone here. They're putting in a new house and it was pretty loud but not much in El Dorado Hills. So back to the net. Just taking my walk. Let's keep roll up a six Golf uniform Yankee clear. All right, enjoy that walk and that exercise and thanks for checking in, Joel. Always a pleasure to have you. Drop on by in the morning. Okay, our next in and out Vic, Mr. Echo 5 Alpha Alpha Sierra. Good morning. I have you down for in and out, I think. Hi, Brian. Yes, in and out. I'm currently at the office. I just wanted to thank everybody for actually being on this net. I listen just about every morning. My note automatically connects and, and I can't always respond. But I just wanted to say thanks to everybody that makes this a wonderful net. That's all I've got for the moment. Victor, Echo, five Alpha Alpha Sierra. Thanks for doing the net, Brian. Well, thank you, Rob. Yeah, certainly we have a diverse group of people and some great conversations. Glad to know that you're in there listening every day and always a pleasure when you drop in to say hello. So we'll clear with the Victor Echo, five Alpha Alpha Sierra. And let's see. Hey, I'm going to check Glenn, Ki6TC. Glenn, were you in and out or are we going to hang around for a few minutes? I can hang around for a few minutes. Good morning. All right, we'll be back to you in a few minutes and. And Tim, Ko6kilo Bravo Hotel. Were you in and out or are you going to hang around for a few minutes of rag shoot?
Speaker D: Oh, I should be an in n out. I'm heading into the office. Thanks, Brian.
Speaker E: All right.
Speaker B: Hey, congratulations on the upgrade to general last evening. Have you used any of your new privileges Yet.
Speaker D: Well, that is a negative.
Speaker E: But I did stay up far too
Speaker D: late looking for a new HF rig. It was wonderful to talk to some of the Elmers. They really changed my perspective. I thought, I thought I had it figured out what I wanted but they made some really good points and you know, I'm going to keep, excuse me, I'm going to keep looking around and you know, see what best suits my needs. So thanks to the Sierra Foothills team up there in Auburn last night. It was really cool to come up and hang out with you guys and you know, talk to someone face to face rather than on the airwaves.
Speaker B: Now that's a great thing. RV sessions is having those Elmers be there and yeah, a great way to kind of talk shop and kind of talk about what your goals are and what you want to what what you're looking at and get some feedback. So awesome. Glad to be part of your upgrade process and thanks for checking in this morning. Once again, congratulations. I didn't look up your call sign yet to see if you are officially in the database of the FCC as a general. So I'll just sign as K06KBH AG. Congrats there Tim.
Speaker D: Yeah, thanks Brian. They don't waste any time. They, they upgraded it already this morning. But I did log into a couple nets on my way home last night to use that ag call sign. So thanks again everybody. This is K06 KBH and I'm a general.
Speaker B: What's up 7 3. That is so cool. Part of that process and congratulations. Well done on your exam and yes indeed, now that that exam is behind you, now the real learning begins. Have a great day clearing with K06KBH and let me check in to see if we have a better signal on Jim Ki7ay Jim, are you still in range of your repeater?
Speaker E: Yes sir, ki 70 y I'm almost no more than a quarter mile away.
Speaker B: Hell, a much better signal than when you're trying to check in there. Well, good morning Jim. Do you have anything for the net this morning?
Speaker E: I have an Elmer comment for the gentleman that just got a general first. Congratulations. That's a good step. Don't get your work on your extra but want to say that one of the goodest, one of the goodest radios I think out there is the new ICOM 7300 Mark II. The reason I say not the older one but the Mark 2 is because it has an output, has an HDMI output for an external monitor. I have a 7610 that has that. And I will never go back to a radio. It doesn't have a big monitor.
Speaker B: You can connect to it but then I'm old.
Speaker E: But it shows you that basically I never look at the screen on a radio anymore and I use ham radio D locks. Not everybody does that. But you know, anyhow I hope he does well, hope he has fun with it and you know, look into doing the QRZ 250 work states event that's going on right now. You know, that's pretty fun. And here I've got one too. But it's a little more difficult because you got to be, you know, you got to get Logbook of the World. You have to get. They have to respond using Logbook of the World which makes it a little harder. But anyway, congratulations to him and thanks for letting me check in. I was going to be in and out. Didn't work out that way. Ki71
Speaker B: all right Jim. Yeah, a couple of my neighbors have picked up the 7300 mark 2. I had the 7300 and I must say comparing the 7300 to the mark II, there is no comparison. They definitely made some great improvements, noise mitigation and filtering and I will just float out there as well. A a similar radio will be the radio that I own which DX10 and fabulous. The new generations of SDR based radios are just fantastic at noise mitigation. And like you said, putting the screen out on a big monitor makes it quite enjoyable to use a ki7ay ai6us. You have a great Tuesday. 7 3. Hello neighbor. N7uwg good morning gary. Uwq uwq my gosh. N7uwq Are you there? See, that's what happens when life gets tangled up with your hobby. Choices are made.
Speaker A: Good evening.
Speaker B: Good afternoon Tony. SM6XGP.
Speaker A: Yeah Good morning everyone. SM660P here for a little report from windy, cold Gothenburg, Sweden. We have around minus 7 degrees Celsius and it's very windy so the temperature feels like minus 10 or 11 or something and it's way cold out there. I was on my way from from the tram and to my house and it's about 200 meter and my face was frozen. I don't like this kind of weather. It's not usual for us to have
Speaker B: cold weather so we are not prepared for it.
Speaker A: I think maybe if you go up north in the northern part of Sweden you're more likely to enjoy this. And they have another kind of cold weather up there.
Speaker B: It's More
Speaker A: here is a very, very humid climate and I think that's because the sea around us and all that stuff. So maybe that's for the wind is so cold. Other than that, nothing special to report for today. Yesterday was a very nice club meeting. A lot of people there and it was the time of the year that you have to make your selection for the leaders for the club and all that crazy stuff. And yeah, I think that little part of the meeting went away in a few 15 minutes or something. It's no problem there. So it was good. So that's a little social thing and that's nice. So that's the report from here. Brian, back to you.
Speaker B: All right, Tony, very good. Glad to hear you have leadership in place for another year. And what was the club presentation about last evening?
Speaker A: We didn't have any real presentation but we talked about all the rules for a club when it was started, I think and they have to rewrite them and we talked a little bit about that and yeah, it was a general discussion of nearly everything. So it was not a special presentation. Maybe I will do one lesson for all my radio lesson notes I'm using here. I think about that. So we also talked about some presentation about. About how to do pota. We had one last year but there are new rules there to take care of and new parks and new places added. So maybe we will have a presentation about later on. So yeah, that's what's. That's in the pipeline I think. So that will be good. So we will see what the coming months have to do. Have to give us, I should say. And yeah, you see it's not the most active club over here but we have some meeting and we have sometimes a good presentation and sometimes we only drinking coffee and talk to each other. That's good too. So yep, that's what's going on over here. So maybe I will check in here tomorrow. I. I think I will be home in time. And it was. I thought I will be too late today but I came home in time for the net. So back to you Brian. Wish you all nice day and stay safe over there. May I 6 US 6 XGP.
Speaker B: Yes, sometimes those business meetings are necessary in a club. I get it. And yeah, sometimes like you said, sometimes it's great to get together, have some social time and. And just. Just visit. Excellent. Well Tony, good evening to you. Enjoy your cold, cold, cold, cold weather. And yes, summer is only a few months away when you'll have Wet cold weather. SM6XGP AI6 US coffee break with Tony. Let's check in, see if Frank has his audio situation worked out. KG6 in LW. Frank, are you there?
Speaker C: Here, let's see if things are working all right. I hear myself just finding the phone. Good morning, Brian. And the coffee break net. Not much else going on here. Just waiting for the motel room to
Speaker B: be ready so I can go to
Speaker C: bed and get a few hours of sleep before I have to start the
Speaker B: day all over again.
Speaker C: Let's see, that's. That's about it on the side here. This tonight I have a. Let's listen to 2 meter traffic which also includes my all star node at the home QTH. And that's on my YouTube channel, my Twitch, my Twitter, you know, all the social medias. And I have it set so that if the Cron job behaves in the morning, it will automatically switch from the Ham Radio 2.0 hub in Texas over to the W6EK All Star link and you'll be able to hear all of the coffee breaknet live online.
Speaker A: I think that's about it for today,
Speaker C: Brian.ai6uskg6nlw I guess Patrick took me out when I tried getting in with the in and outs earlier.
Speaker B: No, I'm not really sure. You came in the first time with audio and then two times after that I saw you light up but there was no audio. So I don't know what happened there. Technology, always a challenge. So is this a part of a hard route for you? Are you up in, I think Klamath Falls. Is that a standard route?
Speaker C: This morning I am the opposite direction. I am in Barstow, more commonly barstool, because. Well, yeah, every stool in Barstow is full of bars.
Speaker D: If you get it.
Speaker C: You get it anyway. Yeah, it's possible of a regular route. K falls down to Barstow, but I'm based out of Stockton, so it's either I go north or I go south, whichever is the train lined up for me?
Speaker B: Oh, very good. Yes, I understand. And it's not a joke, it's a reality in barstool. That's funny. Well, Frank, you have a wonderful day ahead. Thanks for checking in. And. And yeah, very interesting to follow along on what you're tuning into on your live feeds there. One question before I let you go. How much traffic do you normally have on your live feeds? Do you find people are finding out about amateur radio because of the feeds or do you think they're mostly amateur radio operators who are following along?
Speaker C: Well, you know, that's quite an interesting question there, Brian. It seems like about half and half there. There is a huge uptick usually right at the beginning of the live stream for about the first hour or so when I just do the let's listen to the radio sort of stuff and then it goes down from there overnight. You know, I run it overnight. So overnight, daytime, somewhere else. But it's quite interesting to see about 42% of people are not subscribed to me already that come in to watch. So it definitely. There's some interest from outside the ham radio community. It seems like.
Speaker B: Yeah, always interesting to know that because, you know, it's interesting how people find out about amateur radio case. Probably one of the more interesting ways that we interact with the public is our fox hunts. You always have somebody coming up and going, what are you, what are you doing? And then the conversation, oh, I had an uncle or I, you know, have a friend, somebody at work who's amateur radio. And it just, you know, actually brought people into the, into the hobby because of just these. You never know. Somebody surfing the Internet runs across the live feed and go, man, that's something I've always been interested in, Frank. Hopefully they get that hotel room fixed up soon so you don't have to spend the rest of the day on a bar stool. KG6NLW AI6 US coffee break. You have a wonderful day.
Speaker C: YouTube.
Speaker B: Brian.
Speaker C: And yeah, it's anywhere between 400 and 800 views on the listening to the radio live streams after they're live. There is some interest there somehow. Anyway, everyone have a great day and good morning to everyone. Kilo Golf six November Lima Whiskey.
Speaker B: All right, seven three Frank. And good morning to Glenn. We will call you Glenn. Uno today K06LGP Good morning. Good morning, Brian. Beautiful morning. Just finished my walk, settling down on the piano. My general studies. I want to be like Brian and get my general soon. So that's what my day is all about today. Well, very good.
And out, jerry.
Yeah. Good morning. Welcome back. And good morning to the rest of them. Had Larry checked in. Now, it's 54 degrees here. Supposed to get to 55, and then the rain's gonna start about 3 o'. Clock. I don't know how much we're gonna get, but I think we're in for a good. And that's. That's about it. Got the house cleaner coming over at 1130 since Gina's not able to do all that stuff with her shoulder. So she's going to give it a thorough cleaning and come back every other week until she's completely healed. I hope you and Donna are doing well. Thanks for picking me out. 84 lD.
Speaker A: Kn608k.kn6o8k. Requesting antenna check, please. Los Angeles link up. Thank you kindly. I really appreciate that. This is KN6 Oak. And it. I'm done. It's over 73 to you as well. So whatever it is, and have a good
Speaker B: day. And for what it's worth, you both sound great
Speaker A: here in San Jose. WB6K, JV on a B handheld inside the NBC studios. San Jose. Back to work. Seven three. System 19 link. Hawk, what do you mean, back to work? Why don't you just get to work? N6 MVC. What's up, D? System 11 link. Hey, get to work there, Ko. You only got a few days left. There he goes. What are you going to do after you retire, man? I know. You're going to put together a new. Let's see, how about an MSF or a quiz lane? And let's just pick it up in Montera, replace the box I got up there and tie it into your network. Wow. How's that for a plan? Yeah, well, I should have the hub moved by N6TRT36 local testing.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, I got the spare repeater, so. Yeah, gotta pick the one out of Stockton and throw it out of my garage. I got the one out of the main Sacramento, one I have to take down. So it's going to get moved over to Vaca. So, yeah,
Speaker B: Sounds like a beautiful. Put repeaters and keep moving them around and drive dark and crazy. So, yeah,
Speaker A: I think MVP if you're still in there. I think my replaced antenna up at Slide got destroyed by the time I went over there. There's absolutely nothing on 420 coming out of that. In or out of it.
Speaker B: Oh, no. Was it as robust as the Scala that was up there or not so much. No, not so much.
Speaker A: I'm trying to remember what it was. I think it was a modified Motorola 450 antenna or something extended the elements on to make it 420. Where was it? I had it running someplace else, but yeah, there's not even a trace of any RF coming off that thing. Yeah, not good.
Speaker B: I hate that. Yeah, we just replaced a Scala down at Santiago that had 10 degrees of down tilt in it. Those things are tough antennas, man. But, you know, and so are the Telloways. God, we've had those destroyed. I think those are even tougher. All welded and everything. And just, you know, when you get whatever it is, 40, 50 pound block eyes tonight down and hit it, it really doesn't matter what it is.
Speaker A: Yeah, I kind of swung it around so it was underneath that ice shield that was up there, but apparently it didn't help.
Speaker B: Well, it could always be something else too, you know, I can't tell you any time, but it's gone up thinking, oh, it must be this or must be that. And also it's like, whoa, didn't see that one coming. So you never know until you get there and put hands on it. And knives. You have to see if I can get Jason.
Speaker A: He knows somebody can get into the cameras up there and swing it around and see if it's still there.
Speaker B: Yep, that helps. Or if somebody wants to go skiing, you know, anyway and jkv, you know. What do you mean, get back to work? Why don't you just get to work? Start there. That'd be a good place. Yep, I'm all caught up. Just have to finish some training, man. Hazmat. Oh, this sucks. That's the worst part. Yeah, I got plenty of that piling up too. So, so crazy. Just like looking at all this stupid crap that keeps coming through and changes and this, that, like, yeah, whatever. I'm Paying attention. In one ear, out the other. Yeah. The powers that be just make all this stuff up. Right. Just keeps us busy, you know? The amount of time it took for you to write this stuff up, you could have just done this and done with it, so. Well, it doesn't work that way. All right? I'm speaking of. One second. So I got to get back to it here, so. Yeah. Things are getting crazy around here. A lot of people coming in and descending on the area, so. Especially down there, man. Really crazy. Keep your wits about you. Somebody say ice? What? This morning, they were doing a. They weren't going to be there. They're not there to do anything. Yep. Our folks wasn't really happy with that distraction. They got enough stuff to report on, you know? Yep. Well, maybe they'll be a little more prudent and diplomatic about their tactics. They've caused enough mayhem and disturbance in this country, so. I don't want to get into it. So I think, you know. All right, get to work. Yeah, that's funny, too, because. Yeah. You know who. I've already created enough. You know what? I guess he's a big trumpet. Distractions. Right. That's not a bad thing. But guess what? Didn't make any difference. Coming back at him in space. All right, see you guys later. Back to faking it. Jk any. All right, get to work. And KO you do the same thing at your.
Speaker A: Yeah, the. I guess this evening there will be an extra class for those in attendance for that. And yeah, it's a lot of people out there are, you know, in fact last evening we had a gentleman who has been a license 1964 and he just decided it was time to upgrade to extra. So that's Robert WB6 icy. So yeah, it's never too late to learn and I'm learning that just by listening to you and the things you're embracing.
Speaker B: Well, it's definitely a challenge. The general's making my head hurt, but I'm enjoying learning both the material and my new radio. So have a great day. Thanks for the net. This is Kilo Oscar six Golf Papa out.
Speaker A: All right, Glenn, Uno. You have a wonderful day ahead and thanks for checking in this morning. Good luck as you practice both the piano and the general. You know, once you get that rhythm down on the piano, maybe the code will come easier for you getting that rhythm down. K06 LGB8 6 US coffee break. And good morning, Glenn. Dose today. Happy taco Tuesday. Ki6TC ai6 US coffee break. Good morning, Glenn.
Speaker B: Good morning Brian. And good morning to the net. Well, you got it backwards because I'm one end Glenn and the other Glenn is two end Glenn. So figure that out. And I'm sitting here in the parking lot at the Indian clinic. Edward is in with his mouth open in the dental chair.
Speaker A: Well, very good. I guess there could be worse physicians to be at today. Well, is he going to be in any shape to be as coffee and consuming tacos or burritos with you today?
Speaker B: How did you know what's on the menu? Yes, he's going to be okay. He's just having an implant which is going to be, I think it's about a year process and so we'll be frequenting this spot. It's actually sun, it's quite warm and I'm enjoying the nets and enjoying the heat, the warmth. So yeah, Mission Coffee and Taco tree is for the schedule.
Speaker A: I know that you kind of have that routine down, so I think on a Tuesday we know where to find you. Well, Glenn, I was just putting dos, uno and dos in order of check in today, but yeah, it does make sense. But there is another Glenn who is a member of the club with a single in. So boy, we're gonna have to have a gladiator match to find out who gets 1, 2 and 3.
Speaker B: Okay, I can, I can handle it. Can you? So I gotta for the topic today, carrot cake. I have not had carrot cake. At least that's what I understand because I haven't had Feder's carrot cake and I'm someday I hope to be able to just sink my teeth into. That sounds so good. And I do like carrot cake.
Speaker A: You know, your daughter, she. Well, your daughter and her husband Bob, both, they probably enjoyed a carrot cake that you would have enjoyed at the club campout. Theta brought a carrot cake that was just, believe it or not, we had a carrot cake left over and Kathy and Bob bid on it. But then they didn't come back over to visit you. They headed off for a points eastbound headed back towards Tennessee. So there was a carrot cake with your name written on it. It just didn't get shared.
Speaker B: Oh, you bring tears to my eyes. I am sorry to hear that I missed out. Chucky. Darn.
Speaker A: Well, no, absolutely. You know, and I kid not, I am a carrot cake connoisseur. And when it comes to carrot cakes, Theta WA6EWF makes the best carrot cake, hands down, of anyone that I've ever had. And that's a pretty high bar. And the crazy thing is it's gluten free. It just blows my mind that it can be the best carrot cake in the world and be gluten free. That just doesn't jive.
Speaker B: Well, Gluten can be made into gluten burgers, so I don't miss the gluten. But anyway, I do. For what I'm hearing about PHDAs carrot cake, I know I'm missing out and, oh, I hope to find that on my plate here sometime in the future. The sooner the better.
Speaker A: Well, yes, indeed. She's been known to bring it to our picnics and to the camp out. So we'll have to make sure that you get to give that a try. I mean, absolutely. The best carrot cake in the world. Hey, Glenn, you have a wonderful time. I, I just see you sitting in that car, nice and cozy, the sun beating through the window and feeling good in the cold weather outside. Kind of like a cat curled up on the on the hard hardwood floor. Ki6TC ai6us. Happy tac Tuesday.
Speaker B: Well, thank you for sharing the conversation this morning and we'll be checking in again soon. This is KI6TC saying 73 to all,
Speaker A: and if theta is listening, Glenn would like to try the carrot cake. Good morning, Steven. K06EBQ. Thank you so much for your assistance last evening at the VE session. What a great session. Good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning, Brian and the nets. Yes, you previously said there was quite the energy last Night there. Totally enjoyed that. Great turnout.
Speaker A: Couldn't have been better.
Speaker C: Everybody walked away with what they came for. So that was awesome. Another awesome thing is tonight is the second session of the Extra. Love to see someone join today. I'm sure that you'd be able to catch up. It's only the second session, so all is well there. But other than that, what a beautiful day. I'm trying to get out there so I can finish my Mesh core installation, but unfortunately, work comes first. We'll see how it all works out.
Speaker A: All right, so, yeah, I know you're getting into the bottom floor of the Mesh Core system install, and I know you've been communicating with Jeff and others about that.
Speaker C: So
Speaker A: what repeater or what is going to be the basis? What hardware are you using
Speaker C: for the repeater? I'm using a heltech lora version 4 with the appropriate antenna that Jeff provided. I've got that. I'm going to have that attached, the antenna attached to my little job box. And it's going to be the highest point of the house here. And Jeff has done some studies and says that I should be able to or I will hit Auburn from my repeater and probably the one out there in West Roseville as well. So he thinks it'll be a good fill for this region here.
Speaker A: Well, very good. Yeah. I was talking to somebody last night who said that they were having trouble getting into Auburn and they were down in the Roseville area. So our Highlands believe so, yeah, that will be great to have another station kind of starting to fill in for the mesh core system. Well, excellent. Keep us updated on your project there. And I also am looking at the Heltech V4 and there's a couple other new ones out there. And so I just decided, you know, instead of rushing into it, I'm going to attend the club meeting on the 13th and listen to the presentation by Jeff on Mesh Core and some of you who are already going down that path of installing Mesh Core and make sure that I'm purchasing the, you know, the best option for the system. Steven, thank you so much once again for. We had a great meal at Brewster Burgers last night. And then 100% pass rate for everybody who came in. We have three new techs, two new generals upgrades, and two extra upgrades, and that's so awesome to be part of that process. Anything else from Annette this morning?
Speaker C: No, Brian, I don't. I know you're trying to wrap this up, so I'll say seven, three to all. Have a great day.
Speaker A: Be Safe. All right, so it sounds like there's still a couple of opportunities to get into the extra class. So if you would like to upgrade to an extra license, the exam is a wonderful the prep classes are a wonderful way to really learn the information and really help you as you upgrade. So check it out if you're interested. This is an online zoom class and hosted people all across the country are taking this course. So yeah, drop on by if you're interested in upgrading to extra. Head on over to w6ek.org that's whiskey6echo, kilo.org and click on the classes and not too late register. You'll just be coming in week two of a ten week series. Good morning coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater. We are after 10 o' clock in the morning so let's go ahead and put this into wrap up mode. So now we'll start taking for the log. Thank you for being part of my Tuesday. I will be back again tomorrow as your net control operator and conversation facilitator for the Coffee Breaknet. We've had some conversations this morning and look forward to continuing again tomorrow. So with that, I just want to wish everybody a happy Tuesday and the Coffee Breaknet, where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing, and the fish are jumping. This net sponsored by the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club. We are here every day of the week, 7:30am to 10:00am Pacific time. Really appreciate you being part of the morning conversation. So with that, everyone, have a wonderful day ahead and we'll catch you again Tomorrow morning. I'm AI6US returning the W6EK repeater back to normal usage, whatever that may be. 73 everyone.
D.
Speaker A: I know you have to run, Brian. WB3CSY. Glad that Jerry's checking out the older clear nodes and they may work okay when the numbers
Speaker B: switch over.
Speaker A: Yep. No, it sounds like Tom and Patrick were checking that out and having some conversations with him on that. So we looks like they are working on any potential problems and looking to the future as well. So that's great news. Have a great day, Rick. Thanks a
Speaker B: lot. This is W6EQF. Art. Anybody still there that knows when the meeting is?
Speaker A: I think that was Whiskey six. Was that Echo Quebec Foxtrot? Yes, that's true. All right, and are you inquiring about the Auburn, the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club meeting?
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Usually is it the first Friday?
Speaker A: No, it's second Friday each month. So it's going to be happening on Friday the 13th and we are at a new location. The location is at the Placer County Health and Human Services center there in DeWitt center and the map is on the W6ek.org website. So it's in the new conference room area of the Placer County Health and Human Services center there at DeWitt Center.
Speaker B: Oh, I was mistaken. I, I didn't see the second Friday at 7:30, right?
Speaker A: That is correct. Yeah. The doors will be open probably 6:30, 7:00 clock if you want to come in a little early and visit. And yeah, the meeting gets underway at 7:30 and it's also on zoom if people cannot make it in person. So hopefully we'll see you there. We're going to have a special open house there on Friday the 13th, the second Friday of the month. And yeah, it's first time meeting at this new location.
Speaker B: Okay, thank you. This is Art, EW60 QSL.
Speaker A: All right, Art, my name is Brian AI6US and thanks for checking in this morning. I'll throw you in the coffee break. Log 73.

Speaker A: I work with W6G RC. We've got somebody that's constantly keying it, trying to shut the traffic off, so hopefully they'll back off.
Speaker B: Okay. Did you. I wasn't sure if you were trying to disconnect from. From the W6ek. If so, I couldn't do it on this side. I wasn't sure, you know, if you were having trouble with your connection there.
Speaker A: Not at all. It'll shut off here in a minute or two.
Speaker B: Okay. Absolutely no problem. I. Sometimes I know we have a little trouble getting in to do DTMF control and that sort of thing. Well, you have a wonderful day and thanks for carrying the net up in your end of the Valley. I look forward to doing a drive through on i5. And I understand you have wonderful coverage.
Speaker A: Yeah, that was pretty wide ranging coverage reading to like, Yuba City area.
Speaker B: Well, excellent. Well, thank you for coming back there and if you ever have any problems, I know Smitty has probably given you our contact information, but more than happy to assist in any way. And you have a great rest of the week.
Speaker A: You as well, Brian. Thank you for letting us tie in.
Speaker B: Oh, no, our pleasure. It's great to have more coverage up and down because we have quite a few people who travel the Valley and it's just fun having more people in the region. On 73 W6LNDAI6US. Have a great day.

Speaker B: Hey, matt.
Speaker A: Happy Tuesday.
Speaker B: W7kju, wb6, jkv. Andy crashy in san jose.
Speaker C: I just had a couple of minutes
Speaker B: to say hello, but I had to say hello. So.
Speaker A: Hello, system 19l.
Speaker C: Hey, good hearing. I just thought about you. Wonder if he's on. Happen to be lurking. I'll let you go. You're about ready to decimate or do something. So take care and happy Tuesday. And good, good hearing you. Wp68 kgu.
Speaker A: Turn on.
Speaker B: Be clear. All right, Matt 7:3. Yep. Got here at work. Always listening. And by the way, the system now is got a solid connection into Southern California. So, yeah, talk to anybody in LA. Carla31 is back online again. So matter of fact, is there anybody in LA listening? Just for a quick check. Say again.
Speaker A: Any copy?
Speaker B: Sure. Say it again. Just curious if anybody in Southern California was listening for a quick check. Just demoing us to our partner up there at Lake Tahoe. So go ahead. A few decent JKV handheld in San Jose. Yeah, good morning.
Speaker A: 86 up.
Speaker C: I'm in Los Angeles.
Speaker B: Come on. Okay. Yep. Sound like you're right here.
Speaker C: Roger. Take care. Have a good one out there.
Speaker A: 80, 60 p.
Speaker B: All right. Just hard at work making it here over at NBC studios here, also known as NBC and telemundo in bay area. So there you go, matt. Daho. Your turn.
Speaker C: Go.
Speaker B: Looks like Matt bailed on us. Hey, Matt, I guess let you know the system works in la. There's a gentleman from Los Angeles that's on there now as we speak.
Speaker C: It sounds really good. Yeah, I was listening to him and whatnot. Yeah, I got two microphones real close together and I grabbed the wrong one. But yeah, I got a friend down there, Joel, with her at a BB6 BJM and retired deputy sheriff and let's see, can't think of his call right now. Anyway, it's a beautiful day up here in tile. I think we're gonna hit 50 degrees today. It's kind of. Kind of a little above normal, but it's okay with me.
Speaker B: Back to you, M. Yeah, we hit 70 here, both on the coast and on the peninsula. So I think we're going to do it again today. So anyway, how's things in la? What was the name down there? I didn't catch it. Yep, I guess he got busy too. Oh, well, I gotta get busy also. Kn6mgk on 36 local kilo november 6th. Mike golf. Kilo is mobile.
Speaker A: Pretty quiet out there.
Speaker B: Yep. Anyway, good. Good to hear, everybody. Good luck on the contest. KN6MGK.
Speaker C: What? Is there nobody out here? W6lnd.
Speaker B: I was about ready to switch over to the W6 TRC, but I hear you out.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm on the hd.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm going to switch over. Kn6mzk. Qsy.
Speaker A: All right. 76l.
Speaker A: Kn6mgk on the w6grc machine. So I get used to the All Star there. I'm gonna give it just a little bit more time, hopefully. Yeah. So anyway, do I sound okay on the machine? Yeah, you're kind of broken up, but. Yeah, you're on an ht. On Carla, you were about the same volume wise, but you're a little bit more broken up on this machine. Yeah, that last transmission was real broken up. Yeah. Doesn't your tractor have one of those metal roofs or something you can stick a magnet mount on? Okay, well, nothing heard. I'll keep monitoring for a little bit. KN6MGK. All right. Can you hear me now? Actually, it was a bit garbled. Some probably some packet loss in that one.
Speaker B: Okay. I'm trying to come in via All Star.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, that last transmission was perfect, so, yeah, definitely got a higher modulation there. And so I'm guessing you're using your phone app, like Repeaterphone, Right?
Speaker B: Right. That's what I'm using is the Repeaterphone app.
Speaker A: Yeah. Well, I think actually that's working a lot better right now. I can actually hold. Hold down a conversation with you this way.
Speaker B: Yeah, there's an advantage having an All Star connected repeater right there.
Speaker A: Yeah, it definitely gives you some other possibilities, doesn't it? You know, so that's always good, especially if you have a data connection, which over there you. You would have. Especially when you run that Starlink.
Speaker B: Not running Starlink, just using cellular data right now.
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. Hey, the trick would be, is it possible to get like. Like Tyler involved at the same time where we could all have like a three way? That would be interesting.
Speaker B: Well, unfortunately, I don't know if we'll ever get Tyler to go to an iPhone to get a good app. I got their TV switch, but it's clunky. You know, Android problem.
Speaker A: Yeah, but no, he's done stuff like that before, but I think. Was he on Echo Link? Maybe he was on Echo Link before.
Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. And we do not Echo Link tie into this. I don't like Echo Link, and I think Echo Link should be discontinued completely.
Speaker A: Well, it seems like it has a little bit more latency, but like on the net last night for. For the Pars group, a person checked in on Echo Link.
Speaker B: I don't know what net that was on.
Speaker A: Yeah, the. The paradise group on the Pars repeaters. Anyway, a person was from Indiana, and I was talking to them for a while after the net, all 15 minutes. Yeah. Well, your last transmission was a bit Garbled packet loss, but something about fidelity. Yeah, I don't know. Right now I would compare it to be fairly equal right now. You know, last night's conversation went pretty good, so. But yeah, before it was terrible, so. I agree. Echo link was not very good before.
Speaker B: No. And I'm in a pretty bad part for data right now, so that might be why I'm having trouble. Can you hear me, Steve?
Speaker A: Yes, I did hear the last transmission. Yes. Not that time. At that time there was nothing.
Speaker B: Well, that's just where I'm located, right? It's not the connection on the mount, that's for sure.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, yeah, and I. I'm getting all kinds of node traffic out here too. I'm just turning left on the Durham 10th Road. I'm sure you know where that is. And mesh nodes going crazy. I just deleted all my nodes to start over again. So it clears them out and. And brings in all the new stuff. So I like that sometimes doing that. But. But unfortunately today it'll be busy with new notes seen. Just like you're doing from your house right now.
Speaker B: Yeah, my notes are home. I didn't bring anything out with me.
Speaker A: That's fine. Did you leave. You leave at least that one on? Because if I see it pop up, I'm going to send in a message. Message.
Speaker B: So I believe the CDAC is on, which is. It's on. And I believe the repeater on.
Speaker A: Yeah, the only one I'm interested in is the repeater one. So if I see that one pop up, I'm going to try to send it some messages to see. Because when I get out here, I'm going to Yankee Hill. I have it lined into that Sutter Butte, so if I can get into there, then it can retransmit. Hopefully you'll get it. That'd be interesting. But some of this is experimental, so we'll see if it announces itself, you know, and I'm able to see it. That'd be good.
Speaker B: I have my doubts that you're going to be able to see it. I'm stand cider Gibbs, but I really doubt that Sutter Buttes is seeing me at the moment.
Speaker A: Well, the Sutter Buttes is set up as a router, so it doesn't really see anybody. In a sense, all it's doing is taking information data packets and passing them around. So anyway, that's what it's doing. But yeah, the traffic has got to be able to. I got to be able to see it. You got to be able to see it. And then if I can get a message into it and you're seeing it, you should be getting messages coming from me. But yeah, you responding would be a problem. Obviously you're not there. But that's kind of the neat thing about it too is that it's like the store and forward. So if I send messages and you receive them later on, you check them. So they should be there.
Speaker B: Okay, now they should be. Plus the two deck is on. So if you can see the note at the house, then you'll be able to see the two deck as well, right?
Speaker A: Yeah, possibly so. But that just depends on if your position packet's going out. Like usually, you know, I think defaults every hour, you know, and then is that router system picking it up? You know, that's the problem. I may not see you because it's not picking you up like you said. So but if I do see you, then I'm going to try.
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. Well, at least I found a kind of a temporary workaround when I'm out here. I can come, come in on the phone for the most part.
Speaker A: Yeah. Like right now. It's perfect. So anyway, yeah, so if you do get time when you get home, you can check the repeater for any messages. Anyway, you might have, you know, 30, 40 messages sitting there, you know, on the medium fast channel that are, you know, from the bay mash. You might look to see if any of those are from me just in case, but I don't know. We'll see. Just depends on if I can get in.
Speaker B: Well, Floyd looked last night, he could not see my note on medium South. I talked to him for a minute.
Speaker A: Yeah, it takes a while to discover things too. So as an example, he may have to. Well, I don't know if he was on medium fast already, he may have to delete nodes or whatever. But no, if he started it to medium fast, it should have been fresh too. So anyway, a lot of times it takes a little while, 24 hours to get a lot more. No traffic seen.
Speaker B: Absolutely. So I don't even. I looked on that map this morning and it wasn't seeing me. So that's what gives the impression that nobody's hearing me. I'm hearing people, but I don't think they're hearing me.
Speaker A: Yeah, there's. There's a good chance that that's happening for sure. KN6MGK on the W6GRC W6LND.
Speaker B: Yeah, so it's one of those things. We'll see what happens.
D.
System 3, lift up. It.
Is there anybody that knows anything about Force Amplifiers? I can't find one connection, but anyways, does anybody know anything about that?
Speaker A: I don't expect any miracles until I get it up at a higher level.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, even then, it can be a little frustrating.
Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. So, like you said, the investment levels. Well, I don't know if you saw KF6OBI's newsletter last night, but he had a link to the guy down in the Auburn area that makes all those nose stuff.
Speaker B: No, I did not. I thought about that. The guy is doing a lot more mesh core, which is fine. That's a good way to go, too. Possibly like K6L something. W. That guy, the guitar player guy.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was a link to that guy. The guy that does all the pies and all that.
Speaker B: Yeah, he was the one doing meshtastic before. Now he's kind of switched over to mesh core, so. Nothing wrong with that. That might be the way to go for you guys. I don't know. So. And we may end up. Honestly, these guys around here may end up trying that, too. It's just kind of all experimental, so fastastic just seems to be the way that we started, so. And then all these devices can easily put the mesh core firmware on it.
Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. We'll just have to see what. See what happens.
Speaker B: Yeah. Well, I'm kind of testing the W6TRC going through this area around Butte College. It seems to be working pretty good. What antenna? I know Mike was talking about changing the antenna. What antenna is Gary going to be putting up?
Speaker A: I'm not sure what he's got in mind, but I can guarantee he's got something in mind. He's also going to change feedback.
Speaker B: Yeah. Okay. Yeah, that's good. And someone asked Obi about how many watts it's putting out, and he said that he thinks it's putting out a little bit less than 100 watts now. Anyway, that's what he stated.
Speaker A: I think it's somewhere around 60 to 70, but I could be mistaken as well.
Speaker B: Yeah, is. And was that the measurements taken after the duplexers?
Speaker A: Yeah, after the cam,
Speaker B: yeah. Well, that's a pretty good amount if that's what it's doing.
Speaker A: Yeah. Well, Black diamond, the commercial one's like 150, right?
Speaker B: Yeah, no idea. But anyway, yeah, the more the better.
Speaker A: Music car down at Harris Ranch,
Speaker B: I noticed on your driveway a couple oil drops there. So I guess that old ford there with 300,000 miles gives you a drop of oil every night.
Speaker A: Yeah, it has a few drips.
Speaker B: Yeah.Kn6MGK. Those were workhorse engines and stuff, so, yeah, it'll go another couple hundred thousand miles.
Speaker A: It should.
Speaker B: Be. Oh, someone took out part of the guardrail out here. Hopefully didn't go over the ditch there but over the bank. I mean right at the end of Durham pence and Highway 70. Part of the guardrail there was mangled.
Speaker A: Uh oh, somebody messed up.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's almost like they went directly in it and it, it would have definitely if they kept on going they would have been over the bank. And that's probably a hundred foot drop.
Speaker A: Pretty good drops up there, that's for sure.
Speaker B: Well by looking at stopped him. So it did its job. But I wonder how that goes from an insurance perspective. Like if you've got insurance now, just like let's say State Farm, did he have to pay to have that fixed?
Speaker A: I believe they send your insurance company a bill, right?
Speaker B: Yeah, I would assume so. Got no idea. But when you're paying about 100 people to fix a 10 foot section of guardrail, that's when they get expensive.
Speaker A: I'm guarantee of a inflated, right?
Speaker B: Yeah, I would assume so. Yeah. They do that a lot. So you know, that's why I said 100 workers. They only need two. But they're going to have to bring in another 98 to watch them.
Speaker A: Absolutely. That'd be a six hour.
Speaker B: So the only time period that W6EK hears this repeater is between that say 7 and 10 window.
Speaker A: So we're disconnected from W60K right now. Right? We're, we're completely disconnected. It automatically connects.
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. This morning I heard, I heard the net control, I think say someone from W6DRC was trying to check in and then knowing the person didn't come back. So curious about that. But I know, I was just listening. That wasn't me.
Speaker A: We've got somebody that's keying up while the nets on thinking if they see us they'll shut the repeater up. Right?
Speaker B: That could be. Anyway. All right, well I'm in a real bad spot. Let's see does. Are you hearing me good right here?
Speaker A: I was able to hear you through there.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's that corridor that goes right after the, the bridge. And I mean we literally got you know, 50 foot hills on both sides.
Speaker A: There you go. So you were able to get through there?
Speaker B: Yeah. So I'm wondering if that antenna really is that bad. If it works in that. It'll work in a lot of things. All right, well I'm getting close to the job site here so I'll say 7:3. Yeah, your app is working really good. So I like it. I'll say 7 3kn7.6mgk73 Steve.
Speaker A: Glad to hear it's working okay. Kind of nice to see what you've wanted to do for a long time actually work.

All right, I'll have to check that out. All right, well, this time it looks like it's up in Washington at HQ and other locations up there, but. And, you know, I think it's just under 400, but it seems like it's brand new. And that wasn't the inference I got from. What the hell is the guy's name? The c. What the hell is he? Cto. Coo, I think. CTO seemed like it was all behind us, so, you know, don't trust these guys at all. Well, I heard that there was. What is it? That Steve. Cell One guy. What's that? Company with a. Merged with Cellular, not Cell One. Was it Cell One? No, US Cellular got hit last week. I didn't see anything about that. Is this a tech or somebody else? Not sure. I just heard that they got hit last week. Oh, really? Yeah, I didn't hear. I don't even know how many there are. I've seen some names I don't recognize, and, you know, I see their sights sometimes in one console, but. Yeah, no idea. Interesting. And I just drafted a letter to a RF engineer about a FUBAR site, and after an anchor job and my boss says, yeah, go ahead and send it to him. And then, you know, depending on how they respond or he does or whatever, then we'll see if we have to escalate it and get the old message back. It's like, are you kidding me? You're noisy and crunchy, so I'll let you continue on there. And those hits keep on coming. System 19 link up. Yes, they do. Hey, are you able to get into seven from where you are? I just wanted to confirm. I know it's. The audio shaping is all off and whacked out there. I want to say it's de emphasis leaving the building and no de emphasis coming into the building and pre emphasis leaving, I think. But I don't know if you're able to switch over there and listen to it or not. Do it on occasion. And I can only take it for about 30 seconds, but yeah, yeah, it's all cheap and basy and icky going one way and all tinny and restricted going the other. All right. Yeah, when Jeff went down there, hook up the. The node, you know, he hooked it up and they tried to, you know, all parts levels, but obviously things are in need of a service monitor and tweaking and configuring, which means I gotta go down there. That means I need him to go down there. So I think, you know, But I ain't going down there till super bowl is over, that's for sure. Yeah, and if you need somebody on a base station, I can work 7 full, fly it in from my place. So. Yeah, you mean at work, not at home, right? Oh, that would be at home, yes. At work, not so much with the handheld in the mobile. Yeah. But from home. Yeah, no problem. It's, you know, outside antenna. Yeah, go figure, right? Closer at work and block and farther away at home and it's, you know, that's why it's called Will. Freaky, right? Remember how it was working up in California? Yoga, of all places. Crazy. Yeah, well, you know, it's kind of all out there on its own in the middle of things. And what is it, 600 foot elevation, so. But it's a small antenna, but, hey, it works. And a new one. That's right. I think I replaced that last year, All that good stuff. But yeah, yeah, I can do that from home and copy that on super bowl, man. Oh, besides super bowl day, I'll be working. I'll be on Bruno. I can work at. Fine. From Bruno. Speaking of, Primro, do you still got that. Whatever you guys call it, your storm tracker, hauler, wheeler, radar truck thingy up there parked up there, or is that back out in the open? No, they redeployed it up there the day before it started raining, so. So, yeah, it's still there, still scanning the skies. I mean, from up there. Yeah, it's parked on Bruno transmitter right below the tower. I think a. A spot for it, you know, and shows it out there driving around, doing stuff. And I'm thinking, yeah, I don't. I don't think that's accurate. No, they. They took that. That shot on the road on the way to Bruno Road and go through the trees. Oh, that's funny. All right. You guys got some red warning signs around it, nice and enclosed compound. So, you know, put the signs on it that we don't turn the thing on until it's actually raised so it's supporting all that RF over your head. And what frequency is that? Like two, three gig or something higher. Oh, license is laying around your. Somewhere. I'm thinking like six or seven, maybe. All right. It'll warm up certain parts of your body for sure, right? Oh, yeah. They don't want you anywhere near when it's running, so. Yep. All right, copy that. I'm heading down to San Remote, so I think, you know, get to work. Talk to you later. All right, there, unit, catch you later.
