Speaker A: Well, how are you this evening, Chris? Glad it's Friday and heading home, I guess, huh? KN6GTM
Speaker B: oh, yes, Ernie. Yeah, it's nice that it's a weekend. Yeah. And it's nice that it's sunny, too.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's been a fantastic week.
Speaker C: Really hard to believe it's been that nice.
Speaker A: I seen several trees up here in full bloom and I just like, wow, that's. I didn't realize it was quite that time of the year yet.
Speaker B: Yeah. And I was just thinking the other day, you know, I told you I spent last Saturday cleaning my gutters, but, you know, this year I didn't have one of those events where it rained so hard that it actually overflowed float the gutters because I hadn't cleaned them yet. And I was just sitting there thinking of that today that, you know, it's. It seems like we've gotten past whatever wet season we were going to have.
Speaker A: Yeah, we've got a couple months yet that we could get some rain. So who knows, who knows what it's
Speaker C: going to do yet.
Speaker A: I've seen some pretty heavy stuff in the spring, but I've seen it, you know, not do a whole lot more than it has.
Speaker B: Yes, yes, yes. So I came out this morning, I got into the truck, I got on the road, I got in here and there was nobody out there. And you know, Ernie, somehow we're going to have to get some more people out here on here.
Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know, I. I thought you tried hard.
Speaker B: You.
Speaker A: When the new people got a license, you put them on the club and. But we don't hear a lot of the new people.
Speaker B: Yeah. No, I don't know. Are they? Yeah, that's a mystery.
Speaker A: And even some of the old people just lurk around. I hope they're listening.
Speaker B: Oh, I think David Wa1ner sits out there sometimes and listens. He's probably listening right now, aren't you, David? All the time. Some of us.
Speaker C: You guys are out here listening too.
Speaker D: Always with me.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker D: Okay.
Speaker B: All right. Well, sometimes when you're listening and nobody's
Speaker D: talking back to me, talk to me.
Speaker A: I stepped on you there, Chris. I was saying there's a couple for you.
Speaker B: Yeah, I was saying, you know, if you're out there listening and you hear me out there and nobody's talking to me, then talk to me, darn it.
Speaker C: I just popped out through the garage to take the trash out. Thought I, you know, frequency, so I
Speaker D: ain't got much time.
Speaker C: But since I heard you guys. Yeah,
Speaker B: Is your radio in the garage?
Speaker C: Yes, my radio is in the garage. Where do you keep your radio?
Speaker B: My vehicle, this one, and on my desk in my, in my house, my bedroom. So of course I got to admit that that one's rarely on except for the net. So, you know, it wouldn't do anybody any good to be on the air while I'm at home because I don't listen most of the time. Unlike David, who always has his on.
Speaker C: Yeah, I wish I had that luxury. I, I keep one in the garage, I got one in my car. But.
Speaker A: Any,
Speaker B: Well, the last part of that, say the last, oh, I don't know, 20, 30 seconds, you got unreadable. So yeah, I'd like to put one out. I got enough radios, I should put one out in my garage too. How about you, Ernie? Do you have one in your garage?
Speaker A: Got one in my garage. Got one in the house. Got one in the vehicles. So yeah, I've got a few.
Speaker B: Oh, I was looking at these hit radio sites a couple of weeks ago and they must have this must be a lost leader or something. They have 771 antennas, HT antennas, the long ones for $2 apiece. So I bought a few. I bought quite a few actually figuring I could just bring them to the club meeting and either sell them cheap or give them away.
Speaker A: So which antennas were they?
Speaker B: Well, they're, they're branded for TID radio, but they're the 771 style, the Nagoya 771 style, the 17 inch long one.
Speaker A: What do they consider that? I don't know what they, I forget what they call those are, they're not. Are they quarter waves or something like that?
Speaker B: Well, I don't think they're square waves. They're higher gain than your 701s and your, your standard, you know, the ones that can come with your radio, they're higher gain. So. And you know they have, some of, they have programming cables for $2 a piece too.
Speaker A: And so which radios do these fit?
Speaker B: Fit anything with an SMA male connector on the radio.
Speaker A: Okay, you're, you're talking HT style?
Speaker B: Yes, that's correct.
Speaker A: Okay, I don't have as many HT's as. I've got more of them in the GMRS band than I do in 2 meter. I've got one that I got programmed up for this frequency along with that commercial 2 meter P25 frequency. So I've got a Motorola next TS 2500. It's a nice, nice heavy radio. Seems to work well,
Speaker B: Motorolas are always heavy. I'm not sure what they make them out of. Tungsten, I think.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, copy that.
Speaker B: I.
Speaker A: You could almost use them for a weapon if you. You needed to.
Speaker D: They.
Speaker A: Yeah, they definitely are heavy. But then on the other hand, we have some of these cheap radios that are so light, you wonder, like, wow, did they put. Even put any. Put much into them?
Speaker B: Yeah, you could. You could use one of those Motorola radios to break a window if you wanted to. And so, you know, and it wouldn't hurt it at all a bit.
Speaker A: Very good. Well, I'm pulling into my drive here, so I'll say 73 is good to hear you out there, Chris. This morning I heard you, but I was. I had just beat you to work. I. When you ID'd, I was just about to pull in, so I didn't say anything. So I, I heard you id, but I was. I was already getting ready.
Speaker B: Pull over.
Speaker D: Okay.
Speaker B: I know how that goes, too. All right, well, I'm almost in my driveway myself, so have a good evening yourself, and we'll talk to you later. And David, WA1 ner. You have a good evening.
Speaker D: 73JK6VZD.
Speaker C: Clear, sir.
Speaker D: And you guys have a great evening, too. WA1 nerd.
Speaker A: Okay, on 6GTN, I'll be clear.
Speaker D: Ernie,
Speaker B: go.
Speaker D: Well, I've left my oranges in my bag, and I went in there and I was eating after lunch today, I decided, well, I'm gonna have my regular orange. I eat one, one or two a day. And I just happen to look through the bag and I, I saw a couple gray spots, and I looked in there again, and I pulled them out. I. I've lost two oranges. WP6A X N repeater.
Speaker A: Well, I don't know what to tell you. I. I could try to squirm out of it and say, it's your environment.
Speaker D: Exactly.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker D: I'm not keeping them. And so I told Shirley, I said, get on the. On the phone and ask the question about the best way to save oranges. Exactly. Like, it's like you said, refrigerate them and keep them in. Keep them in the refrigerator, and that'll keep them longer. And that makes good sense anyway. But I was trying to see if I. How long I could keep them in the kitchen counter away from any heat and just.
Speaker B: Just at room temperature.
Speaker D: And. And so far, it's done pretty good. And I've left them in the bag, but that's.
Speaker B: That's.
Speaker D: I'm gonna have to put.
Speaker B: I think.
Speaker D: I think I'VE got about eight. I've been eating them consistently. I've got about eight oranges left in the bag and I'm gonna put them in the refrigerator so I can hold them off. But I've only lost two and that's pretty good.
Speaker A: Okay. I thought it was gonna be a reflection on me. I picked those bags out for you there. And so I must not be a good judge.
Speaker B: Quality fruit.
Speaker D: Oh, you said those were going to have good shelf life and they have had good shelf life.
Speaker A: Whole lot better than those first ones that had all that fog and rain on them.
Speaker D: That's correct.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker D: No, you're, you. Everything that's been doing been doing right. And it had other ideas of how
Speaker B: people try to save the oranges and such.
Speaker D: And the best way to keep them from spoiling is eat them up. Don't sit on them, eat them,
Speaker A: go for it. Get that right. All that vitamin C while you can.
Speaker D: You bet. I try to put down at least two a day and I've been doing pretty good at it. And so whenever I peel, my wife want peel any to eat them herself. So when I peel them I give her half one each time. So that way I get two.
Speaker A: Okay, very good. Well, 73 save you have a good evening. We will chat with you later.
Speaker D: Km6gtm and I'm loving these oranges. I'm eating the heck out of them. They're good. They're nice and sweet. Okay, Ernie, have a good evening. 73 WA 1 nerd.

Speaker A: What are you on your way to get some pizza and six grt?
Speaker B: No, no, I was coming down the hill from Paradise. I put a call out for you when I first started. Then I moved over to five two and talked to my buddy Jay there for a few minutes but he's gone and I flipped back here. So I'm probably 10 minutes from home. You know, regular normal traffic on Highway 99.
Speaker A: Yeah, 99 is where they had a hundred vehicle pile up not too long ago.
Speaker B: Wow. I'm sure nowhere near here. Probably like Bakersfield or something.
Speaker A: Yeah, it was way south. Yeah, I just got back from spot across. Across from across the plateau so to speak and kind of cold. I was on an E bike so I didn't have the radio going.
Speaker B: Yeah, well I can imagine you being a little cool for sure. But yeah, pretty nice today. Probably 70 degrees. It was like 72 in Chico, but a couple degrees cooler in Fahrenheit. But now it's cooled down to about 59 so. But yeah, I can imagine you being a couple degrees under that and then having to go on the e bike at 25 miles an hour. That'd be pretty cold.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was going about 25, 22. Actually. It says it's 55 degrees over here right now.
Speaker B: Yep, yep. Mine's going between 59 and 63. 62. Anyway, the reason I was calling for you is just to kind of check in with you to see how things are going on JS8 wanted to see if I could try to trying to get you tonight if you got it on.
Speaker A: Yeah, I didn't do any more with it today. I ended up, like I said, going across town. And so I might try a little bit tonight. I was wondering, do you remember a kid, a younger fella in Cottonwood that was getting on on Carla? Do you remember his call?
Speaker B: Nope, sure don't. I might be able to look through my phone and figure it out but it might take me a while at least to figure out his phone number or something because I think I texted him during the Auroras stuff. But gosh, I mean forgetting his name a little bit was like Jason or something like that maybe. Anyway, I'm kind of forgetting the name too so. But I do remember the guy and feel like he was in school or something.
Speaker A: Yeah, Jason was. What? Jason is what I'm thinking in Cottonwood. That's what I came up with also.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's probably the best you're going to get out of my memory bank is I didn't have very many conversations with them. And so, yeah, I wouldn't remember this, even though I'm. I'm okay on some call signs. And usually on the. You know, the back of the call sign is not the first part of the call sign, so. So anyway. But yeah, I'm not. It's not coming to me right now.
Speaker A: I was just gonna look again real quick, and I did see one call with the name Jason. I was gonna run that call.
Speaker B: Yeah. You know, you're falling down on the job. You used to be the keeper of the list. KN6MGK.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was doing that for a while. Okay. Jason doesn't even show on the page. There's J, but not Jason. Have to be like a KN though, I think, wouldn't it?
Speaker B: Yeah, you know, kn. KO it could have been J, but, you know, that's possible, too.
Speaker A: Yeah. Well, the reason I wanted to put that together is there's another fellow that signed in from Cottonwood that seemed to be fairly advanced. And I thought it'd be a good thing for them to. The two of them to get together.
Speaker B: Yeah. Well, being the other guy doesn't seem to be on anymore. I'm thinking he took off, moved out or whatever. You know, it could just be not on at the moment, but kind of the way I'm seeing things going lately is now he was caught in college or something. He could have, you know, got done.
Speaker A: Yeah. Or I think he was just doing two years college, so he could have gone to a bigger college.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking. Yeah. Something like that.
Speaker A: All right. Well, I thought I'd give it a try. If anybody would remember, it'd be you.
Speaker B: I appreciate it, but. Yeah, I appreciate that thought, but. Yeah, I have crs, too.
Speaker A: Well, for a young guy, you shouldn't have that much of it. Must be all that smoke in paradise.
Speaker B: I haven't been taking my ginkgo biloba. I have some, so I should be taking it, but I haven't.
Speaker A: Once I took ginkgo plus some stuff called Gota Cola together. And I couldn't believe the things that I could remember. Phone numbers that I never really realized I even knew were popping into my head. It was just nuts.
Speaker B: Yeah. Another mixture I like is Lion's Mane mushroom. Lion's Mane in a powder form, incidentally. You mix that in with like a cup of hot coffee or tea and it dissolves rather quickly. Some of the other mushrooms don't really. They kind of stick there and kind of hard to hydrate. But anyway, Lion's Mane mushroom and ginkgo biloba. Pretty good mixture for like better focus.
Speaker A: Have you ever seen that mushroom in the wild or pictures of it?
Speaker B: I think I've seen pictures of it and I've seen something like that in the wild but I can't say that it is that so. Never really investigated. Usually I've left it alone. That was my theory. I'm looking for like say three or four different fall mushrooms. If it ain't that, I don't bother with it.
Speaker A: Well, it is quite amazing to look at in the wild. It's a beautiful mushroom.
Speaker B: Yep. I think a lot of mushrooms are pretty awesome looking to be honest. Even a turkey tail mushroom which is everywhere in the forested area. Or I've even seen them in in town sometimes on trees like an oak tree that comes down and starting to rot. Turkey tail mushrooms. They look cool too if you ask me.
Speaker A: Well, one of the ones that doesn't look. It looks like crap. You have to actually dig, dig them out of the dirt. They're actually in the dirt a lot of times Is the mazataki.
Speaker B: Yep. I haven't seen one I don't believe. Sure there certainly is in Shiitake. But it'd be fun to see one of those mazatakis for sure. But I'd have to go up the right time of year up there around you know where I used to have a summer cab and the family did anyway and they hunt them there. I wish I was into that. My grandma was into there mushroom hunting but she never. The one thing about my family that's kind of crazy, they never share stuff. Like she made some good old fashioned ice cream, you know, with hand crank. Where's the recipe? You know, why don't they pass that stuff along? I don't understand.
Speaker A: Well, that recipe is really easy to come up with. Online, you know. It's not so much the recipe though that you need to look at. It's the equipment and the method. It really doesn't make sense that it even works.
Speaker B: It's not by long. That's the way worry about that. I mean I have the equipment, I mean everything like that passed down. I have the equipment. The same stuff I used as a kid at 8 years old, you know. So over 40 years ago we were using a crank it out ice cream and the method is, you know, ice and rock salt and stuff. I could figure that part out. But no, the recipe is not easy because there's plenty of of old fashioned vanilla recipes out there. And yeah, I could follow one but it won't be my grandma's recipe. Yeah, that's true.
Speaker A: My mom had everything in a notebook. And you know, I could probably have a copy of the entire notebook if I wanted it being passed around the family.
Speaker B: Well, my grandma went as far as making the cookbook. I forget the name of it. Medicine Lake something cookbook. Anyway. I don't know. But anyway, she made a couple of books from around the history of the area and stuff. And she was selling them around Shasta county, around that area, around Mountain Gate and all that is a little stunning. And anyway, some of that stuff might still be around if I can ask for my relatives. But, you know, didn't ever go to me. So it's hard to say. And the likelihood is that as people pass on and so forth, they're just tossing that stuff.
Speaker A: Not in my family. It's all being. Especially if it's something that's written down. It's all being passed around. And I. Because of what my plans might. What I thought maybe my plans would be. I did not take a lot of things. I did not take a lot of things that I could have had because I thought, well, maybe, you know, what I talked about if I do that, there's no way I'd be able to have any. Have all this stuff.
Speaker B: You'd have to have a storage or something like that. Things get ruined in storage. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, well, as time goes on, you know, that becomes less and less likely. Yeah, that's true.
Speaker A: Although I just saw one where a couple brought the lady's dad on. He flew in from Australia and went across the Atlantic and had a great time. So, you know, and he looks like he might be my age, so I think it could happen. Key enough because if you're saying something, I don't want to miss it. I've got fire stuff going out.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, I don't know. I just arrived to the house, but I was just kind of hoping to see you on JS8 or FT8 or something. So soon. So that's okay. Friday. You know, one thing we do have going is probably starting Monday of Rainier Times Sunday night. So, you know, I figured maybe you'll have some time next week to really work on that stuff. Maybe. Anyway, for me, I'm kind of still working on some gardening stuff and things. So we'll see. I've got a nice cauliflower dough right now. I'm going to bring that inside. Maybe I'll cook some of it too. So anyway, I'll Listen to your final and say 73kn6mvk.
Speaker A: Well, yesterday I had gone over to this lady's house that I've been helping and we cut a whole bunch of wood and stuff. I had it all in the truck. And this morning I spent all morning getting it out of the truck and separating it into different piles of stuff, organizing it and everything. And I've got a pile that I need to cut up and blah, blah, blah. Well, then I got to thinking. She offered me a pair of coveralls that she didn't give me. And so I called her and I said, well, I, you know, I'd like to get those coveralls. Oh, well, let me see if I can find them. And all of a sudden, I think while we were still on the COVID oh, I found them. Okay. So I went over there and we talked and talked and talked and. Took a lot longer than just grabbing a pair of coveralls and coming home. But yeah, coverall, you know, $50 item. They're brand new. Yeah, it kind of bugs me that I can't come up with with who that was in Cottonwood. I'll bet you he's still listed as Cottonwood, so I wish I had that name. Anyway, talk to you later. Sounds like you get home. NFISH PR2. By the way, there's one guy in in Cottonwood whose first name is. Or the last name is Officer.
Speaker B: Interesting. All right, well, I better say 73kn6mgk is clear.
Speaker A: Okie doke. Talk to you later. N6Q.

Well, you're probably okay not even knowing. How are you doing? Haven't heard you in a while. Nothing good going on. Anytime I get around a person making sandwich, they say, don't forget the mayo. Oh, love mayo. Especially a turkey sandwich. Mayonnaise, beef, you know, leftover from the weekend. Right. Sandwich. Get the mayo on there. Oh, kill me. God. That was rigged. It was so bad that, you know, you just could not say it. Only as we. Well, that doesn't sound very good, the way you kind of describe it there. I mean, you know, eat this and die. Okay, I remember a place called Dipti Nevis in the city. I don't know if it was on Castro, but. Oh, you want to talk about good food? Good. This will get me started on good food. Okay, think about going there. Now, you can't flush drive around the city for two days. In fact, I knew a guy, he moved over towards Fisherman's Wharf. Of course, there's no parking, you know, on the street. Good luck. And really, sometimes at night, he would go down to the marina, sleep because he couldn't get home. Island. Palm trees and a little lighthouse on it and whatnot. And told the guys, hey, man, crash on the deck afterwards. Yeah, sure. Yeah, you can sleep out four times. Well, I've heard that before. Crash on a deck. Oh, no, that's not something you want. So, what is this one of your experiences? Another place of good food as you talked about. I love talking about good food. And it's cheap. That's the only part of it that's cheap. I mean, really. Blah, blah, blah, the economy. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. That's the same one about the economy.
Speaker A: There's two things that don't go together. Good food, cheap.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm still looking for a good burger joint. Not, you know, I can remember
Speaker A: good
Speaker B: burger, you know, lettuce, tomato. They got home style, they call it. People send me some place. Oh, go over here to Bobo. Oh, God, this is terrible. Insult. But it's okay. I've had people tell me about the burrito truck over on Yada de Yada, the street. And serious, you get it. There's nothing in there. No meat, a lot of rice. But the tortilla is so thick and tough to eat. They do that probably because, you know, stuff falls out on the ground,
Speaker A: but
Speaker B: you can't eat them. I felt like I was chewing on a dishcloth. Wait a minute. Wet my teeth, you know, like that.
Speaker A: I know what you're talking about. There's a place down here. Got one up here in Francisco. We got one here in South City. They're pretty good.
Speaker B: Oh, thank God. I used to work 16th in Alabama in the city publishing company. A lot of pay stuff. Plus we'd run over to the Mission District. There was one shop, I want to say El Jose's or something like that, but tall, chiller and you know, they wrap it up in tin foil and really it was huge. Two people could eat off it or cut it in half. Take the other half home for dinner. Plus good beef, chicken, whatever you have chosen.
Speaker A: All clean and nice and, you know,
Speaker B: other stuff in there. Guacamole, stark and hey, try it now. Oh, you don't like? No.
Speaker A: Here in San Francisco, Third street, right near the third street bridge,
Speaker B: there was a
Speaker A: temperature place and their hamburgers were spot on. Burger tomatoes. There's enough grease in the burger itself, like permanently stained my shirt. They made delicious burgers. They were fantastic. And there's another place that was, I think worth a mention called Clown Alley. It was on. I think it was on Eastern Street.
Speaker B: You know, I've heard that name before. Somebody else raised there in the city, right. You know, part of it is the core, of course, you know, the flavor of the lettuce and tomato and stuff you want fresh and good. But the bun, you know, the bun needs to be firm and there's a certain taste, you know, that east coast power hamburger flavor that you get out of the bun. You can't get that.
Speaker A: The place on 3rd street was called Tick Tock and there is all about the street as far as I. Just rated high on my list. But they all closed. I don't remember why. I thought those were good.
Speaker B: Not really having a challenge. But hey, what about the fries? Sometimes even those are nice
Speaker A: spices. And I don't know, I need deep fries. I don't deep fries anymore. But got a place here in town called Basca Cultural center and they're French fries are thin, light, crispy, popped on the edge. Fry. Of course, I think what they do is they do a double fry on them. Basically drop them in, they fry them for a few seconds, take them back out, put them back in afterwards after they cool down a bit so they come out light.
Speaker B: Oh, yum, yum.
Speaker A: Cool.
Speaker B: Have you cooked? Are you a cook? Obviously you know something about it.
Speaker A: I'm a wannabe cook. I got the knives, got the chef knives. No questions about it. Cook. No, my concept of cooking is going out.
Speaker B: Only thing about going out is you better take out a bank. Well,
Speaker A: Christmas for occasionally to get supplies. Much about private. Don't cook. No one stop the drive to a restaurant. Don't want to stop. Distressed to go to a restaurant. Fantastic. You know, if you go to a restaurant, guarantee that regardless, small, tiny, you know, children size burgers still going to cost you just.
Speaker B: Oh yeah. And you know, even regular people are feeling it, feeling the pinch of the economy. You know, some people who have extra money in the bank, you know, they own a cabin up at Tahoe, you know, beautiful home and stuff. And they're griping about they don't have any money.
Speaker A: Politically.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, I guess it's happening all over the world. You know, for dollars a lira, the yen doesn't buy that much anymore. Peso. Yeah, I remember back when, way back when, you know, my family and I would run down to Mexico. Things are cheap and you could get anything you needed. Of course now people go down to the medication, but
Speaker A: dental work.
Speaker B: The only thing people would say is if you're in Tijuana, don't eat off of the snack trucks out front. You know, the little carts take out. Where it says seafood taco, you go, oh, no, no. But I kidding, no.
Speaker A: Yeah, we got some taco trucks around here. But what I did order was quite edible.
Speaker B: Oh, taco trucks. Well, let me tell you about things here in Chico around Christmas time, it's hard to find tamales. The restaurants don't have them. People told me about somebody selling them out of the trunk of their car and tractor supply. Okay, this is tamales. Oh my God, man, I don't see you finery.
Speaker A: Mexico, Arizona, somewhere in that area, pulled into the gas station, got some gas, went in and looked at some fireworks because you know, besides being a gas station, they sold fireworks. Put in the office parking lot were half a dozen ladies and they were all selling their wares. And found a little lady who was selling tamales. And they were spicy and they were hot and perfectly wrapped, you know how. And the corn house glazed and whatnot and tie and little knot in it. They were all perfect and they were delicious.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, tamales make you smart. So just heat a dozen and see what happens.
Speaker A: 50 impressions. Kind of weird. Anyway, It's like if I had the gas leave time nothing better to do than jumping the car and go back. At least gone by now. But the T. No question about it. Oh yeah, I got Somalis when I was up in they were after nobody was eating them. I like made a couple. The lady says, oh yeah, I put too much. I don't think drink just there he ears.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, they're yours. You know, I've run into people, you know, mamacitas making tamales and I hey, well shoot, hook me up, let me have a dozen. And they're terrible. I'm doing Waymen, mom Latina. Oh yeah, they were dry. And you know the mix of mossa and lard. There's a neck.
Speaker A: Question about it. Anyway,
Speaker B: I know enough Spanish, so I'm good. And six IWh on the side over
Speaker A: six IWh and six Q, Y, R. Yeah, just get me going. I just can't stop talking about. So anyways, I move back to essay check. Key west are.
Speaker B: Yeah, I like the ones they call them sweet tamales. Made with the like white corn meal put in some sort of sweetening for the holidays. Okay. Happy dream.

Speaker B: Okay, Self qe I must be hearing that must be the coffee break having a heartbeat. I hear beep beep. That must be the coffee break's heartbeat. Case of QB.
Speaker A: Good morning, everyone. Welcome to the Coffee Breaknet. This is Orion AI6JV here in northwest Roosevelt for sunny skies. The Coffee Breaknet meets every single morning, 7:30am to 10:00am right here on the W6EK repeater. The repeater is lovingly cared for by those good, good folks over at the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club. We host monthly meetings on the second Friday of the month. Actually, that's coming up next week. And check us out on our website, w6k.org all right, folks, let's go ahead and get started with some conversation. Let's do some in and outs. Those are for those folks who want to drop in, say hello and move about their day. Looking for in and outs on the coffee break.
Speaker B: In Western Pennsylvania. Wa 70h roy in freedom, pennsylvania. N60kv.
Speaker A: Good morning, carl. Good morning, roy. There was buffalo with roy at the beginning there. Who else was out there?
Speaker C: N9 muf mobile.
Speaker A: Good morning, Daniel. Let's throw it up to Roy real quick. Good morning, Roy. How you doing today?
Speaker B: Good morning. Orion and the Net doing well. Just got through exercising and we're going to get some more exercise by shoveling snow this morning. It is 13.9 degrees out and so we'll have to limit our time out in cold weather like this. But we have three snow shovels and there's three of us. So hopefully it will go faster than wood. You know, it'll go pretty good for it. So I hope everyone out there is doing well today. Even though it is that cold of a temperature. It is still pretty sunny out and the chickens have not ventured out of the coop yet, but hopefully they will in a bit.
Speaker A: Yeah, see, that's the part of the east coast that I don't think I can handle. Well, it's one of the parts I can't handle. But shoveling snow in 13.5 degrees, you can have that one, Roy, for sure.
Speaker D: Yes.
Speaker A: Anything else?
Speaker B: And friends, we're going to be over in Hilo the end of July, also in on Oahu, visiting family there. But we'll be over in Hilo and mentioning to them they're setting up kind of a potluck. We're going to have the end of July, but mention them about the weather here and they, you know, want to make appreciation for not being here. And yeah, like I've said before, sometimes we say why did we leave Hawaii after spending 25 years in Hilo and then before that four years in Oahu? But we are near family, so that's good and that's positive here.
Speaker A: I Couldn't agree more. I think I would be lost without family nearby. Roy, have a great day. Enjoy the shoveling. Glad you got some help there. And yeah, don't overdo it in the cold. That's gonna make my lungs crinkle just thinking about it. WH7DH AI6JB.
Speaker B: AI6JB. This is W7DH. Everyone out there have a great day. If I don't report in next week and Mickey does, that means the shoveling got to me and I'm no longer here. But just kidding. Take care.
Speaker A: Well, we certainly won't wish for that.
Speaker B: For sure.
Speaker A: Be safe out there. Good morning, Carl. N6 CKV is it as sunny and nice down you're part of the Sacramento Valley?
Speaker B: Hey, good morning Orion and everyone else out there. Yeah, it's sunny, not foggy. Pleasant change. It's going to be nice today. And Roy, take it easy on the shoveling. That could be really stressful on an older body, let me tell you.
Speaker C: Anyway, not much going on today, Orion.
Speaker B: Just going to do some Saturday chores.
Speaker A: Yeah, I think if my wife has anything, doesn't have anything planned for me, I'll be doing the same thing. Actually, I'm starting to think about getting my taxes done. So that is probably going to be high on my list. So I guess you and I will be busy beavers. Busy beavers this weekend. Carl. Have a great weekend. We'll catch you next week. N6CKB hey Isaac. JB.
Speaker B: Okay 73 everyone have a good Saturday. This is N60kV and thanks for running the net, Orion. It's a pleasure.
Speaker A: I certainly agree. It is a pleasure doing the net on Saturday mornings. Good morning, Daniel. N9 MUF. How are you doing today? Sounds like you're heading for the train station to pick up your music friends.
Speaker C: That I am Orion. It'll be a good day. Unlike Pennsylvania, we have summertime weather. It is 20 degrees out here. We've got the same sunshine. So you know, I mean, time to put on the. Put on swim shorts and head for the lake.
Speaker A: Yeah. I'm not sure what part of the country you're from, but 20 degrees is not summertime for me. Maybe if you're talking about 20 degrees Celsius, that might be a better much. Might be a little bit more pleasing.
Speaker C: I grew up in Montana, so as I said, that's the reason I'm a Packers fan.
Speaker A: We share the frozen tundra.
Speaker C: But yeah, today is going to be music and working on finishing up some stuff for a client site. The client said. Oh, I didn't mention this, but I really want this feature. And oh, I also didn't mention this, but I wanted asap, you know, like clients do. So we'll be sorting that out and hopefully getting that wrapped up and maybe get some music in today as well. 73 to you in the net Oran N9 MUF
Speaker A: hey, Daniel. Have a great day. It sounds like that's going to be some fun. At least it's a little bit challenge in your life, I guess. N9mufai6jb73. Good morning, everyone. This is the Coffee Breaknet. That last round was only three. We'll try another round of quick in and outs. Then we'll get into Rag Chew. Let's look for some more in and outs out there.
Speaker D: Well, good morning. We'll try it. Okay. C8 fox queen victor mark ohio.
Speaker E: Kilo november 6th mike julia bravo.
Speaker A: Good morning, Thomas. N kn6mjb Good morning, Larry. Ko6ihj Good morning, Mark. K6 I'm sorry. Fvq no, sorry. Fqv There we go.
Speaker D: I got it.
Speaker A: Gotta get that right. Anybody else want to drop in on this round?
Speaker B: Kj5 golf whiskey november. Good morning, orient.
Speaker A: Good morning, will. Let's throw it up to mark. Good morning, mark. Kc8fqv. How are you doing today?
Speaker D: I'm doing okay.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker D: Got up this morning and did the cereal bit break that? Did the eye drop?
Speaker A: That's done.
Speaker D: Checked into a couple nets already
Speaker A: and that.
Speaker D: And I was just looking at the temperature to see what it was. What is it? I just went and took a picture of it like about 12 degrees outside here now, so getting a little warmer. Not warm warm, but. And leaves them up zero. Yeah, we had some snow last night. I don't know what we have in store over the weekend. They said. I thought we were going to have snow, but I don't think it did come. I don't think anything came really last late last night it was snowing a little bit because I looked at the car, it was getting snow on the windshield, but it was just a dusting. Not even dusting. But everything else is going good. So gonna just do some things around the house or whatever. Super Bowl's on tomorrow, so we'll be looking at Seattle because one of the guys playing on the Seattle team is a 2020 graduate of Rourke where I went to school and worked and where I live still.
Speaker A: So barnar our Barnard.
Speaker D: So let's send it back to net case fqv. Oh yeah, I did hear your net last night. I Think with the joke net or whatever I thought of something on like 9 o' clock or 10 o' clock our time so I'll send it back to net case of qv.
Speaker A: Yeah what you heard was our Friday night trivia night first and third Fridays of the month. So that sounds like you had a good time with that one. Glad that you enjoyed that. And yeah, yeah see you're in Ohio compared to Chicago and we heard a report from Pennsylvania it was 12 or 13.5 degrees and it was 20 degrees in Chicago. So yeah, you're right in the middle there somewhere getting a good data points for what it's like on the east coast A place that I have no intention of being right now. Mark, enjoy the game tomorrow. Do you have a particular team you were rooting for?
Speaker D: Well yeah, pretty be Seattle because though there a barnar he went graduated from Aurora so we'll be looking at that the wind, the Seattle. So we'll send it back to Nat case fqv.
Speaker A: I apologize if I missed that. I heard you said you had a fellow graduate on one of the teams. I just didn't pick up which one it was. Well Mark, good luck and we'll catch you next week. Maybe, maybe you'll be able to cheer about something. KC8FQV AI6JB73.
Speaker D: Yep, 73 kfqb.
Speaker A: Good morning, Larry. Ko6ihj how are you doing this morning?
Speaker B: Good morning Ryan.
Speaker E: Good morning.
Speaker A: Copy breaknet hey, you didn't ask me
Speaker B: what my favorite team was. I wonder why. Oh yeah. Hope everybody was having a great day today.
Speaker A: I haven't even looked at the cameras. I just woke up, rolled out of bed. Looks nice out there. All right, we gotta go outside today and I gotta change a belt on
Speaker E: a mower and kill some of this, you know, cut some of those green grass that's up around my knees right now.
Speaker A: Yeah, usually this time of year we don't have to break out the lawnmowers, but it's getting to look that way. I was checking the weather the other day but I'm thinking the first part of this week we're going to get some weather. If I recall correctly, that's why I
Speaker B: got to get that grass down now
Speaker E: because another shot of water and you know how California grows it needs a little bit of everything turns green for a month.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's one of the nice things about California is the springtime. You go out there, everything's green, beautiful, absolutely. Rolling green hills. But oh my. Weather underground says Tuesday we can Expect a third of a third of an inch, but that's about it looks like. All right, Larry, get ready for the game. Go Hawks and we'll catch you next week. K06ihjai6jb73oring Cohawks Ko6ihj Good morning, Thomas kn6mjb Glad to hear from you. Is it a little bit warmer in Tennessee? A little farther south than the first few folks have checked in.
Speaker B: Good morning.
Speaker E: Yes, it is a little bit warmer. The gauge that's in the shape 39 degrees. But if you're standing out in the sun, it is flip flops, shorts and T shirt weather.
Speaker A: Personally, 39 degrees is not flip flops to shorts. But getting pretty close. Definitely pretty close. Definitely a lot better than the teens, which we're hearing about up the just north of you there a few hundred miles.
Speaker E: Yeah, we're just on the, We're, you know, under 20 was our high. Yeah. One thing that's been interesting, we've been here almost a year now and I don't think, you know, scientifically that we're any closer to the sun. But for some reason the direct sunlight here just feels a lot warmer. So it can be a good 20 degree feel of a difference when you move from the shade to direct sunlight. And this time of year, I'm not mad about it.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, you know, the Thomas, that's what happens when you see the sun. We see some of the sun here in California. We can't tell the difference,
Speaker E: Although we. Well, snow day turned into an icepocalypse. We were lucky enough. We didn't have any real issues. We didn't lose power. We were able to drive, was able to get to work. So there was nothing really too bad for us. I know some people not too many miles away from here all had issues. But you know, maybe that's one of the benefits of being in a new development area is the kind of of set up the infrastructure a little bit better. Or at least it's newer and not, you know, weathered. Pun intended.
Speaker A: Yet, You know, I'm enjoying those reels on Instagram and YouTube where you just watch cars sliding out of control. Is that what it was like when for the, for the friends that or the folks nearby that had trouble getting to work?
Speaker E: You know, I will say one of the interesting things, or at least what I think is interesting about this area is because we don't get that that particular brand of adverse weather. We get snow two or three times a year. It's never more than a Foot. And it's usually gone in a day or two. When we get really bad weather, 99% of the people around here just stay home. So we really didn't have too much of that. We did have because we lived not too far away from a major thoroughfare between Alabama and Nashville. So we did have a bunch of trucks going through and those guys were slipping and sliding in. We had one truck that hit one of the oaks overpass sign things so hard that one of the giant freeway signs that crosses over all the lanes of freeways fell over. So at that point, I think that probably was driver error. Shouldn't have been driving that fast to hit it that hard anyways. But yeah, no, it really wasn't that bad. We did have a couple of teenagers in the the neighborhood go out and try to learn on their own, you know, how to drive in the ice. There was a couple of parents out doing their due diligence, you know, also trying to teach their kids how to properly drive in the ice. I tried to teach Christina, but she just looked at me and said, you're crazy.
Speaker A: Yes, definitely. Driving in ice and snow is a whole different animal. I always think it's kind of funny once, you know, once every 10, 20 years we get snow here. You know, maybe it's more like me. Once every 30 years we get snow down here in the valley. And it's the funniest thing to watch. People just go crazy. It's not like when you go up into the foothills or up into the Sierras where the people that drive there all the time, they just drive a whole lot differently. Actually, one of my favorites is you're going down the freeway, snow on the road, chain control required. Right. And you know, I got a four wheel drive, 4x4 pickup, and I don't usually go much more than 35, 40, you know, in the best of conditions, you know, and then you get folks from the Bay Area, they just blast past you going 60 miles an hour. You're just like, oh, God.
Speaker E: Well, I think that's part of the difference too. I used to have the same truck you did, although I don't. I don't have the full four door. I had the half suicide door. And I mean this with all the love. You have a dumb truck, and because you have a dumb truck, you as the driver are required to use that thing that sits above your shoulders as you drive. Unfortunately, nowadays some of these cars are so smart that some drivers have forgotten or never actually learned how to develop that muffle, and therefore they rely on the car to utilize that. And the cars just don't know how to compute cold.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah. There's a lot to it. My wife's car is a little bit smarter than mine, and whenever it starts to get sliding or squirrelly, the car tries to correct it, and sometimes it's kind of unnerving.
System 2, link up k6lnk system 36, snow mountain range.
Speaker A: You're driving along thinking everything hunky dory and, you know, and it starts to slide and you start to turn into it and all of a sudden the car starts doing a bunch of stuff and it starts shaking and then finally it settles itself out. To me, it's kind of unnerving. Even though it's supposed to be there to help me.
Speaker B: Yeah, no, I absolutely hate it. I'll turn it off as much as I turn off on my truck when it comes to stuff like that. Because I'd. I'd rather be the brains of the operation that way. If something happens, I know it's my own fault. But I also had the same problem when motorcycles started coming out with ABS brakes. I absolutely hated it. I thought it took the control away and ended up causing a handful of accidents. Although it's quote unquote technically safer, I don't really think it is. I think there's a level of Darwinism that should still be in play. Anyways, this is supposed to be a quick in and out. And although I could sit here and talk literally for hours, I will say 73 to let everybody else get in.
Speaker C: This is Kelo.
Speaker B: November 6th, Mike, Juliet Bravo missing. Everybody down there in California.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was surprised you said it's almost a year. I can't believe it's that long already. Thomas, great chatting with you and we'll catch you next time. Maybe to Christy. Maybe Christina will drop in and say hi. KS6MJBAI6JB73.
Speaker B: Yeah, Christina's up doing some CW practice now, but she might jump in later.
Speaker A: Game six.
Speaker B: I'm JB.
Speaker A: 73. Thomas. Good morning, will. Kj5gwn, how are you doing this morning?
Speaker D: Good morning, Orion. Not doing too badly here. It's currently 45 degrees, going up to high of 69. We're supposed to be in the 70s this weekend, then most of next week. We got a little bit of rain coming in both Tuesday and Friday. Slight chance on Tuesday, a better chance on Friday, and we need it. The snow we got was not enough to do a dent in our drought. So we need some more moisture there. So anyway, that's the story there and supposed to stay a little bit warmer for us. So we're not expected to go below freezing for a while, which is perfectly fine with me. I'm perfectly okay with. So anyway, not doing too much here. In the spirit of making this a quick edit out, I'm going to make this one short. This is KJ5 Galfiska. November by back to you.
Speaker A: Hey, Will, thanks for the update. I'm working myself across the country, east to west and yeah, pleasant in Oklahoma than it is here. Have a great weekend. We'll catch you next week on the coffee breaknet. KJ5TWN AI6JB73.
Speaker D: 73. This is kj5 golf 3 skill listing.
Speaker A: All right folks, that's a couple rounds of quick in and outs. Let's go for some rag chew. Let's open it up to ragchu. Anybody want to drop in and have an extended conversation?
Speaker C: Kilo 11-6-November Uniform Foxtrot.
Speaker A: Well, somebody or something keeps clicking on the repeater, but. Joshua kn6nuf I got you. Anybody else? One last try to get in there? I guess not. Good morning, Joshua kn6nuf are you feeling better?
Speaker C: I am feeling a lot better, thank you for asking. I'm actually on solid foods and it sounds like I might be able to go home today, so. Gotta wait to talk to the doctor and hear the results. But yeah, things have been going good and I'm on the up and up.
Speaker B: So.
Speaker C: Yeah, been enjoying some breakfast this morning. Got my coffee and some grits and eggs and pancakes and yeah, the staff here is really great at Rideau Hospital. They're taking really great care of me and should be home soon and back to my normal routine. How's everybody doing out there?
Speaker A: Slowly but surely getting over that cold or flu, whatever I had last week, the week before and still got the coughs. Yeah, I had to drive up to Shasta Lake just north of Reading on Thursday. So I waved at you as I drove as I come down that. Down that bridge in Marysville there.
Speaker C: Yeah, I heard you talking to Theta on Thursday saying you were going up there. It sure is beautiful up in Shasta. I got some cousins up there. Did you have fun while you were up there?
Speaker A: No, it was purely a work trip. It was a job. A lot of the projects that we do, we have to show up for what they call a job walk or a pretty pre proposal conference. And so we went up there and spent. So I drove almost the two, four, five and a half hours for about an hour meeting.
Speaker C: Yeah, those suck. I've done a few of those myself and oftentimes I have to go down to San Francisco for an hour meeting and yeah, it takes, you know, three hours to get down, three hours to get back and. Or sometimes the traffic is even worse. So I feel you. Those are not as much fun. But yeah, at least you got to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Speaker A: Well, that is fact. Yeah, it is Beautiful on the way up there. Everything's green right now. And the visibility was clear. You could see the Sutter Buttes. You could see Lassen clearly and Shasta clearly.
Speaker C: It was beautiful.
Speaker A: Nice drive, you know, and everybody seemed to be behaving themselves, so there was no, you know, it wasn't like there was any stopping along the way except for Marysville. You know, I was. I did four years of high school at Marysville High, and in the 80s, late 70s, early 80s, and there was no such thing as traffic jam. And I was stuck, stuck there for probably, I don't know, at least 5, 6 minutes, 10 minutes maybe, just trying to get into Marysville and get through it. So that was a shocker. Like, wow, even Marysville's got traffic now.
Speaker C: Yeah, it's been getting traffic here more and more. I've noticed it whenever I come up. There's certain times you just don't go. Because trying to go to Costco there in Linda, it can get backed up all the way to where, what is it, 99 or 70 meets with 65 there. And yeah, gets just stop and go. You can get stuck there for a while. Both directions. Yeah, from what I hear, they're going to work on it. They've been clearing out all the trees and things like that along the freeway. I think they're planning on doing some expansion, but I can't be quoted on that for sure. It just seems like they're doing that in prep,
Speaker A: which means they're going to take out some more of those oleanders for that area. Now, I used to remember there were ways you can get through there. Like, what's that road that goes out to Beale Air Force Base? Oh, Beale Road. I was remembering something like, you can cut off through there and then cross the levee. And then. Because I usually go north up to Chico or Paradise, and I was just curious if those roads are still available.
Speaker C: Those roads are still available, and I think they've even expanded it into more lanes. They were doing construction over last summer, and I think they've completed it. So you can cut around that way to get around, but you're still stuck trying to get over the bridge into Marysville. So that seems to be the big bottleneck, is that it's just those two lanes getting over the bridge and then you got the light there. It seems like when the Marysville Motel came down, that caused the bottleneck. That just seems to not been relieved since. I don't know if that's just a psychological thing for drivers coming into the Area just bottlenecks or if they changed the timing on the lights, and that's what's done it. But I noticed that, too. Since that event, it's become more and more prevalent to have traffic.
Speaker A: Oh, I just. I'm looking on Google Maps now. So. Yes, you go. What I was thinking is you get off at Lyndhurst Avenue, head up to. What's the name of that Hammond. Smartsville Road, and then you take Simpson Lane over. Out over the. Over the bridge there, and that'll drop you in just on the east side over there by the Caltrans building.
Speaker C: Okay, I'll have to check that one out. I haven't gone that way in a while. That's going right by where my sister lives over there in Linda. So I'll have to look at that route and see.
Speaker A: I remember it.
Speaker C: Now that you mention it, it's been a while since I've gone that way.
Speaker A: Yeah, I thought it was farther, closer to the bridge, but it's not, apparently. But, you know, if you're heading north, I'm very. So I'm thinking I'm going to have to try that one out. I told my wife that it existed, and she didn't believe me. But I'm looking at the map now going, oh, that's how we did it. But, you know, the big problem is usually I used to remember getting off at. What is that? Feather River Boulevard. But, you know, by that time, you're pretty much almost through there. So we'd have to get off much earlier, like Lyndhurst Avenue. Let's see. Yeah, so, yeah, just take. Go straight off the freeway and just keep driving up Lyndhurst Avenue and then take a right on. On Simpson, or I should say Hammond Road.
Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, I'll have to explore that more myself. This area is getting ready to blow up with all the expansion that they're going to be doing around the Hard Rock Casino and stuff like that. I expect there gets to be a lot of growth out here. So if they don't do some of this road work and expand some of these roads before then, we're going to have bottleneck for quite a while. When all these new businesses and new homes start being built, it's going to be a big deal. So we'll see. Hopefully it doesn't become like the 65 Causeway there through Roseville that you guys all have to struggle through.
Speaker A: Yeah, let's hope, because that has gotten worse over the years. It's pretty much any time of the day you've Got slowdown there. Right. Starting right at Blue Oaks. So what are they going to do around the Hard Rock Hotel or Cafe?
Speaker C: So they're talking about putting in a huge shopping center and event center. They're going to have all sorts of stuff. They're basically going to take over that area all the way from the overpass to the amphitheater. It's going to become shopping center and all different kinds of stuff. They got a whole different mix of things. So they're expecting to, you know, have a lot more houses, too. And plus, Beale Air Force Base is adding, I think what they said was like 300,000 jobs. So they're, they're expanding the base and adding a lot more things. There's not a lot of details, but there was talk of growth. You know, because it's a military installation, they don't go into a lot of details, but they're bringing in a lot more airmen and, and civilian service personnel to expand the base out. So they've been having the Army Corps of their building a ton of housing on the south side of base. So, yeah, we're seeing a bunch of growth out here.
Speaker A: Wow. They're going to expand the base, man. For years they've been making it smaller and smaller and smaller, but yeah, there's a whole bunch of stuff there. There. One of my best friend from high school, his dad was the fire chief at Beale, so I spent a lot of time out there. But there was a section, as I recall, kind of between the strip and between the main, you know, the main area of, you know, living area. And it was. It's like it had all old barracks or something on it and they tore it all down. I'm looking at the map now. It looks like it's D, E and S Street between Doolittle and Gavin. They must be resurrecting all of that.
Speaker C: Yeah, from what I hear, they're resurrecting all that. And then they've actually been building a lot more housing there where they had all the older housing by Southgate. So they've been doing a lot of the groundwork and things like that and doing all the earth moving to. To put in the tracks and everything like that for housing areas. So, yeah, lots of growth. And they're talking about the bypass still to finish out the 65 bypass, trying to figure out how that's going to kind of go around Wheatland and then reconnect with the Linda area and things like that. So that way there will be improved traffic flow to Beale Air Force Base and That kind of stuff. So hopefully it won't be the slowdown coming through Wheatland with the single lane traffic once all that's done. But that's probably still a few years out because they're still trying to figure out which way it's going to go. And there's a lot of politics on how they want to work that out. So we'll see how things go on. But yeah, we're going to see a lot of growth here. This is going to be the happening place to be, apparently.
Speaker A: Yeah. A friend of the family, he retired from Caltrans out of the Marysville office. And I said last October, I said, hey, Dave, I said, when are they gonna ever finish that 65 bypass? When is that finally ever gonna get done? Because it's getting worse. And he says, About 20 years after you die. Yeah.
Speaker C: Isn't that about the truth? Yeah. There's so much fighting about it and they can't seem to work it out. But a lot of people want to keep things small town out here, which I can completely understand. That was my whole reason for moving back to Wheatland, because the small town appeal was appealing to me. But, you know, growth is going to happen whether you like it or not. So I think it's just a matter of controlling the growth so. So that it happens in the right way and it's well planned and isn't rushed too quickly and poor decisions aren't made along the way. So we'll see how it goes.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker C: Hard to say. Kn6nuf
Speaker A: yeah. I just took a look at the Plumas Lakes area. We built a fire station there in the early 2000s, and looking at that, it's now even grown across Highway 70 there. Very impressive. Very impressive. Well, I'm glad to hear, Joshua, that you are feeling a whole lot better and good luck. Who's taking care of your kids while you're. While you're. I just now realize what that must be. That must be unsettling.
Speaker C: Yeah, that was kind of unsettling because I picked them up on Tuesday night and then went into the doctors on Wednesday and ended up going into the hospital. But their mom lives there in Plumas Lake now. She moved from Auburn over the summer to Plumas Lake and so she was able to take them. So they've just had a little extra time with mom, which is good for them. They need time with mom too, and they're doing okay with it. They came to see me on Thursday, but yeah, it was really hard for them to see dad in this state. But I told them I'll be home soon, so they're excited and looking forward to it.
Speaker A: Well, that's great to hear. Fortunately, it wasn't serious, so. Or more serious, so that's kind of cool. All right, Joshua, have a great day and get well soon. KN6nUF Ai6jb
Speaker C: thank you, Orion, everyone on the net. Have a great day. 73 KN6 NUF clear.
Speaker A: Alrighty. That's the list as I have it. Anybody else want to drop in for a rag to extended conversation here on the coffee break?
Speaker E: Note WB6 GUI in and out. K6UEI.
Speaker A: K6dcl good morning. Good morning, Dave. Good morning, Ron. Good morning, Joel. I got you as an in n out. Anybody else want to drop in? All right, let's go to Joel first. Good morning, Joel. WB6 GUI. How are you doing today?
Speaker E: Good morning.
Speaker D: This is Joel WB6GY in El Dorado Hills. I'm rolling up the Pollock Pines now to help install an engine friend's house and that's about all I've got. So back to the net.
Speaker E: WD6 GUI
Speaker A: oh, that sounds like fun. A little bit of an antenna install for Saturday morning. You have a good one there. Be safe. Hopefully you don't have to climb any towers or anything like that, but have fun with that and thanks for helping out a fellow ham. We do appreciate that. WB6 GUI AI6JB SEM3. Good morning, Ron. How are you today?
Speaker E: Ka6uai ka6uai well, still trying to wake up. It feels more like a Sunday than a Saturday, but got up early and just kind of, kind of sitting here and listening in, but need more coffee. I guess sometime this morning. I hope to get out in the back though. I sold the 40 foot Spider Beam pole, the fiberglass pole. It was pretty heavy and very limber at the top and replaced.

Amateur Radio News line report number 2517 with a release date of Friday, January 23, 2026 to follow in five 4, 3, 2, 1. The following is a QST A Severe Solar Radiation Storm Disrupts HF Communication US Lawmakers Propose restoring funds to Voice of America and in New Zealand, Q codes are on the move. All this and more as Amateur Radio News line report number 2517 comes your way right now from around the world, this is Newswatch, Amateur Radio's first independent on the air News and Bulletin service. Now reporting from Wadsworth, Ohio, here's Stephen Kenford, nawb. Our top story this week is the most severe solar radiation storm in more than 20 years. It began on Monday, January 19th and lasted through much of the week. The National Weather Service declared the storm to be at an S4 level, a degree of severity not seen since October of 2023. S4 is the second highest level of this type of storm. The storm severity, which exceeded that of the one in October of 2023, disrupted the HF ban, challenging ham radio operators while creating spectacular auroral displays. A bipartisan agreement among the US Lawmakers could restore the government's financial support of Voice of America, Radio Free Europe and other federally funded news services. Kent Peterson, KC0DGY has that story. U.S. lawmakers in Washington, D.C. have reached a deal that would fund the Voice of America giving its parent organization, the U.S. agency for Global Media, an estimated $653 million. That figure is considerably lower than the annual $860 million provided previously to the agency as described on the Radio World website. The funds would also pay for restoration of operations for Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty and Radio Free Asia. A minimum of $30 million is earmarked for medium and shortwave programming by the Office of Cuba Broadcasting. The deal is part of a larger spending bill, the National Security Department of State and Related Programs Appropriations Act. It has the support of both parties in Congress and its funding plan goes against the White House's executive order from last year which shut the international news services. Even if the measure receives final approval from the House and Senate, it will still require the President's signature. This is Ken Peterson, KC0BGY. The NASA's Artemis 2 mission began its long awaited journey to the moon and back on Saturday 17 January with the Rockets rollout onto the launch pad at the Kennedy Space center in Florida. Three of the four astronauts who will be aboard have their amateur radio licenses. Travis Lit? N3ils tells us what's up next.
D.
Speaker A: Replaced it with the 30 giga parts, what is it called? A Poda 33H Mast. And so I don't have the ground stake piece that goes on it yet, that comes Monday. But I'm going to try to improvise one out of maybe a paint can lid or something that'll just hold it in place for a few minutes and get my guy wires cut. I have a little triangle piece to do that slides on, get those cut and wires all are the ropes. What do you call it? Line, Dacron line. All set up and I got some aluminum stakes. So this will be my, my airline kit. All of the sharp end other objects will go in a checked bag. I'll have to check my Apache box that I got for the new 891 and using the old tuner I had and get that all organized and set up. And the backpack is mostly full, but really that's the only thing I'm bringing on the plane probably is the two lithium batteries that I got, the seven amps. I won one of those at the Christmas party and I have that as a backup. So I bought two more identical batteries. I like that one. So it's, you know, it's already to go almost just a few more little bits and pieces.
Speaker B: Yeah, double check. When I went to Hawaii in July I checked to see make sure the batteries. I wanted to carry along some radio equipment too but my 16amp hour was too big. And as my recall I want to say it was seven. Seven or eight amp hours is the maximum size they allow and some airlines don't let you check them. So I would double check that before you show up and have to do something with it.
Speaker A: No, they're not intended to be checked. The rules are the, it's 100 watt hours and so the 7amp hours, you know the basic number is what day 84 I think. But the, you know, the real number is 96 if you do 12.8
Speaker C: volts
Speaker A: but it's, it's under the limit, officially approved and you could bring two per person. So I don't know why you can't bring a 14 or a 15 or something close to that instead. But you need two of them, two smaller ones. I have the power pole wires connected to that. The rules are the terminals have to be insulated, covered. So they're going to have that with the insulation on it already. And then it's, they're already packed in baggies, gallon baggies and packed away in the bottom of the new little backpack I got. But I think probably what will happen that's just for carry once I get somewhere. And yeah, being on Kauai and parking up there under the ironwoods and walking out on Kaliiwai or Hanalei beaches and popping that thing up and if I unzip the top I can drop that 27 inch mast in there. It weighs under 2 pounds and right at 2 pounds I think. And my 17 inch antenna got the little tripod, I've got the wire, all of it just packs away. 30 foot infed will go along with that. So yeah, it's getting pretty well set up. And then of course I still have the heavy kit where the box now after taking the tuner out is probably all the way down to about 37 pounds. And look for a lighter smaller box, a half wide rack mount box. Problem is that those are actually called airline boxes. Pilot boxes are similar and they're made out of plywood. So don't really lose any weight by changing the box.
Speaker B: Yeah, 100 watt hours, that's the number I remember. Yeah, I think it's probably just the amount of energy in a particular container if, if you have a 14amp hour battery that it goes up, you've got double the amount of energy going off versus if you only have a seven going off, half of it going off at one time. So yeah, batteries can be pretty dangerous. And so yeah, like I said, I just, I thought you were going to check it. I'm like I flew southwest and they wouldn't let us check them so.
Speaker A: Very cool.
Speaker B: Sounds like you got a great setup there. Which island are you going to go to and which island do you plan on going to and where do you plan on operating?
Speaker A: Well right now I know we don't have plans to get over to Hawaii but it's always where we lived on the island of Kauai. So you know, and we've got our two favorite beaches, you know Hanalei, a big beach and be set up out there by the black, what is it? Black Pot park or around by a place called Pine Trees and a little ways down the road in Hanalei off to the toward the left there down the beach and several places out on that beach you can set up. But Kaliwei is a little smaller and probably the just the tripod with some sort of anchors on it. But the little. I was surprised that those aluminum anchors are the screw in anchors and I have to make a little handle to work with that. But I have some 3, 8 inch aluminum rod and so I'm just going to cut a notch in it. So it'll hang where it's supposed to hang when you stick it through the loop to wind those in. And of course on sand you could probably just push them in there. That's going to be an issue. But you know, can't set up the tall pole as easily. You probably need something longer than that. But we'll see what happens. And the but a lot of places there and up in the hills would be nice, you know, do some do DX out. Well, I guess everything will be DX unless you're talking to Oahu. I know a couple of guys on Oahu that I've talked to so. But yeah, that's why they let me on the plane so easily. I'm definitely under 100 watt hours of energy. So come right in.
Speaker B: Yes, I remember now we always talked about how you were up in Princeville, one of my favorite places on the island of Kauai. So yeah, Hanalei would prob be perfect for that. And yeah you have some mountains nearby as I recall we were up there the last time with the kids and you could actually drive up into the mountains if you have a four wheel drive vehicle.
Speaker A: Yeah, you can take that power line trail. We went up in there with the van a ways and if you come in from the side then you get a little bridge and a stream up there and you can drive up over that. There's nice little park in there but you know coming in from the other side it gets rough pretty quick. And we walked up probably a mile or so a couple of miles probably up into that and you know it's, it's not rough for a long ways. People drive their pickups up there and they do the pig hunting up in the hills there. But going up to the coquet at the top of Kalalau Valley and you know some lookout spots but it is some sort of a park so I'm not sure what they tolerate for you know, wires hanging up on a mast but that'd be a great spot up there. It's about I think 3,000ft or so where that lookout is and can't see anything down the lookout most of the time they, the clouds blow into it and make fog and it rolls right up to the edge of there and then dissipates. So it looks like you're looking out over a cloud bank but it's about 3,000ft down to the beach a couple miles away. So it's interesting when it's clear you've probably been up there. It's a waimea Canyon area. A lot of places up there that you could set up and you know, for Asia on one side there. It's particularly a direct shot right over Niihau. So anyway, I'll let you get back to then. I think you might have had another in and out, but I didn't hear it clearly. So I'm not sure that'll be. It'll be interesting. We can do it over there. The only trip we have planned is off to Washington D.C. on the 4th of July. So we have about a four day tour. Various spots over there, never been past the Mississippi before and that'll be interesting. I don't think I'll be having any time to set up radios, let's say hanging out the balcony of wherever we happen to be staying. We got a tall building, I don't know what it is, top of some office building. They have a big meeting room up there and they're going to serve a meal, watch the fireworks from up there. So it ought to be pretty cool. No radio up there though.
Speaker B: I always love Washington D.C. there's a lot of history there, lots of neat things. I mean I could spend days just in the Smithsonian alone. It's so neat. And then of course the Natural History Museum and then Arlington. I mean so many neat places nearby there. We've always talked about, and we've never done it, but we've always talked about doing kind of like a Civil War war trip. We took the kids up north to New York, New Hampshire, Connecticut, up in those areas. Pennsylvania did kind of like a Revolutionary War tour. We kind of just took all the big major spots for the Revolutionary War. We were thinking about doing something like Gettysburg and go down that way, but never did that, never got to that. So I'm jealous. I like Washington D.C. it's a great place to live. I mean visit.
Speaker A: It's some sort of organized tour. You know, they pick us up at the airport and transport us over to where we're staying and then take some tours on a bus I guess out to various spots and Smithsonian's, you know, it's all samplers. You're going to run through part of the Smithsonian in four hours or something and then on the way somewhere else, you know, half day, half day for each one. And then of course the evening of the fourth of July. But there could be some time, I think there's one half of a day when we get there that we're going to do a different thing at the Smithsonian than what they have planned and you know, just get to go see everything and quick tours of lots of, lots of places. So I've never been there before. But be interesting and I'll probably take about 10,000 pictures since I won't run out of film.
Speaker B: Well, I'm jealous and actually kind of mad at you because you're one of those folks that jumps off a bus and then cuts in front of us. I remember those. You're sitting in line waiting to get into a museum or some sort of attraction and a bus pulls up and they all go to the front of the line. It just blows my mind. But anyway, you have a great trip on that one. And fourth of July should be quite special. I don't remember if this year's special or was last year's special. I can't remember. No. 76, 26, 77. We're like 175, no, 250 years now.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's the big 250th anniversary. So that'll be. Yeah, that'll be pretty interesting and special and be cool to tour the White House. But I think we do take a step into part of the Capitol and we don't, we don't have the, we don't have the Jump the Line tickets. They don't, they don't include that in this particular tour. But it's a short tour. I think we're on the ground there for four days or something like that. Five nights, four days and out of there. So, you know, be good to get back to. But I'd rather spend about, you know, a month over on Kauai than Washington D.C. but it will be interesting to see it. Never been there, so got to do that one, I guess. And I don't think I'll ever make it to New York or any of those. But we might head to do a southeast tour at some point. Like to move down there. But you know, now the houses are dropping in price here and going way up in price price in the Southeast. So that's, that's the way it goes. And of course, maybe, maybe there'll be another hurricane on Kauai and the prices will drop temporarily. We can manage that. But that's, you know, got to win the lottery to buy something over there. I have found a couple of nice four or five million dollar houses right on the beach. But yeah, that's not going to happen. Anyway, I'm gonna jump off of here and go back to looking for some things. Of course there's always little bits and pieces when you're setting up something so, you know, oh gee, I could use one of those. I gotta go find that out. Anyway, you have a great day. Great. Rest of the weekend everybody. 7 3K6UAI.
Speaker C: Hey Ron, thank you.
Speaker B: And I'm gonna be jealous when you go to Washington D.C. for 4th of July to celebrate the 250th birthday. KA6UAI AI6JV73. Good morning dave. K6 at dcl. How are you doing today?
Speaker C: Good morning Orion. We're doing just pt Keen. Lucy is just into her Bistadi so she's got a ways to go. But she's drinking her coffee too and reading the local news which is always interesting. Anyway, other than that I'm doing radio stuff. I got a new. Yaesu 3185 which is an 85 watt VHF only radio and it works like a charm. And I tell you that 85 watts can heat up the room. Gee, and it's got a huge grill on it, on the top of it. And last night I was talking to a friend of mine pretty non stop there for a little bit and boy she was heating up. I love it. We could warm our hands. Anyway, other than that everything is on scan ready to stop at a moment's notice when there's a signal coming across. Not much traffic on a Saturday morning but anyway, I don't know, not much going on other than just exciting about excited about that 3185 and all that other stuff. I also got three little bitty radios in this past week from Radtel. Radtel. I have a 817A radtel. Well these are the RT17. They're FRS only. 22 channels and FRS only. So they sent it to me to test them out. They asked me if I wanted to. Also discovered a friend of mine also was asked by Radtel if he wanted to try them out. So looks like they're getting people to help them. Anyway so we're going to start that. They'll have them this afternoon, my two other friends and we'll see what we can do to destroy them. Very funny. Anyway, that's what we're doing and I hope you're doing well there Arianna, and everything is going well for you. Back to you, K60C.
Speaker B: So which model were you are you going to try out? I'm on the Rad Tail website, just kind of curious. I missed the model number. It is.
Speaker C: Let me get you the right knot. It's the model arc rt13. Rt13. Supposed to be a humdinger. I hope, I hope. But it's a little bitty thing and doesn't put in out many watts, but supposed to. Supposed to work. Okay, and we'll see what we can do do with it. So it's RT1 13. Yep, RT13. There you go. Yeah, I'm looking for.
Speaker B: I don't see it here. I see P8. Let me see if I can maybe search it. Oh, oh, oh. It looks like it's like a mini mic or something like that. That would be cool.
Speaker C: I Hope that my M1KE isn't going south on me or something, because. Speakers flashing with an X. Huh, I wonder what that means.
Speaker B: Oh, you sound fine on that last transmission. Yeah, it looks like it's a super mini walkie talkie. 400-470 MHz, they call it for restaurants. Did I listen.
Speaker A: You there, dave?
Speaker B: Well, I don't know whether this went south or not, but. Orion, are you picking me up?
Speaker A: K60 shield you were quiet for a while, but now we hear you. All right, Dave, it looks like. Looks like we lost your. We can hear you, but let's see. Jerry says I doubled with you, so hopefully you can hear me now. Let's try this one more time. K6 dcl, ai6 debbie, one last try. Can you hear me now? All right, Dave, so I'm going to have to bid you adieu. I hope you're all doing well and we'll catch you maybe next time on the Coffee breaknet. If you get it sorted out, feel free to drop in and say hi.k6dclai6jb73
Speaker C: no, I.
Speaker B: This thing went south on me for some reason. M1KE. I don't know whether it went or the volume went or something went, but. Take care, Orion. Hope you have a great week, great day, all that stuff. And I hope you're ever gonna root for on football or wins for you.
Speaker C: K6DCL.
Speaker B: See you later. I don't know what's going on.
Speaker A: All right, Dave, you have a good one as well.
Speaker C: No, I'm not planning on rooting any teams.
Speaker A: None of my favorite teams are in the Super Bowl. So anyway, you have a wonderful weekend. 73K6DCL. All right, folks, let's go for a
Speaker C: round of in and outs.
Speaker A: One quick round of in and outs and then we'll go back to the. This is Orion AI6JB with a coffee break now. The W6EK repeater.
Speaker D: KO6EBQ. In and out.
Speaker E: Kilo Charlie 6, Sierra, Lima, Echo.
Speaker A: Six papa.
Speaker C: Kids.
Speaker A: November 6th. Papa. Papa. Papa. In and out.
Speaker F: Kv3ajn. In and out.
Speaker A: Kn6yCG.
Speaker C: In and out.
Speaker A: But I'll do a proper check in later. And ko60h. Good morning. All righty. Good morning, greg. Ko6th good morning, patrick, kn6 and ycg. Good morning to n6ppp.
Speaker E: Papa.
Speaker A: Papa, papa. I don't think we've met, but we'll soon meet here shortly. Good morning, christina. Ak6du. Good morning, graydon. Kc6 sle. Good morning, stephen. K06ebq. There was a double in there. I think so let's. Who did I miss?
Speaker C: Alrighty.
Speaker A: Let's go with the list that we have here. Good morning, Steven. Ko6ebq. How are you doing today morning?
Speaker D: I'm doing fantastic. Thank you, everybody, for this beautiful weather today. I get to spend the day. I'M up here in Placer County, Search and rescue training. I don't know exactly what we're doing today. They kind of keep it quiet. Anyhow, I know we're going to be outside and it's late. Looking like a beautiful day.
Speaker A: All righty. That sounds like fun. Where are you at in Placer County?
Speaker D: I am at the DeWitt center, which happens to be right next to where we're going to have our club meeting.
Speaker A: Yeah, they're in the. In the sheriff's office. Very cool.
Speaker C: Very cool.
Speaker A: Spent a lot of time there myself
Speaker D: over the couple years or so.
Speaker A: I was on search and rescue.
Speaker C: I myself.
Speaker A: You have a wonderful day. They always do great training, so enjoy. KO6EBQ AI6JB73 73 KO6ABQ. Good morning, Graydon. KC6SOLE. How are you doing today?
Speaker E: Good morning, Orion. I'm doing fine. I just had my first cup of coffee. I'm waking up. Lisa and I got back from Reno yesterday. A nice trip to snow, not much snow summit, though. It's been that way, but it's a little scary how little snow there is over the summit. Had a nice visit with my grandson and actually made arrangements to have him come spend a month with us this summer.
Speaker A: Oh, that sounds like fun. My wife had been kicking around the idea of maybe taking a road trip with the grandkids. They're just about getting that age where they can be patient enough to sit in the car for a while and they might actually enjoy it.
Speaker E: So.
Speaker A: Good. That sounds like a lot of fun. My daughter just came over from last came over yesterday. Not last night, but yesterday over the past. She said it was raining, so I can't imagine there's a whole lot of snow up there. Now.
Speaker E: If you're dusting and snow and you can see the roots, you can see the rocks, you can see all the things that when I used this key, you don't want to see on the slopes. In fact, going by Boreal, they're making snow. There's no doubt they're making snow. But it's a little thin at Boreal. You can see it right from the freeway.
Speaker A: Yeah, I know, but the daytime temperatures are so warm, so a lot of that's going to get melted off.
Speaker E: Yeah, it was cool in the morning in Reno, but by noon it was very comfortable in the low 60s. And we got back here yesterday and it was 70 degrees here at the house.
Speaker A: It certainly has been very, very nice here. It's kind of a nice break from the stormy late fall we had, but I think we need some rain and last time I looked just a little while ago. Looks like we're going to get some here on Tuesday. So 55 degrees is the high on Tuesday, so we should see some snow as well.
Speaker E: I've been telling Lisa, I've been telling my son and all the neighbors that squad breaking is already here. You know how I know that, Oren? I was working on a project at the workbench in the garage the other day and I got my first mosquito bite.
Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know what it is about here in Roseville. We're near. We're near one of the creeks. I'm trying to remember the name of the creek, but we see mosquitoes whenever it cools down. We see lots of mosquitoes. So we've been finding them in the house once in a while because somebody leaves the door open too long.
Speaker E: It used to be when it was cold, the kiddos went away and now it's like it has to be really, really cold for them to go away. Anyway, I better let you move on to Christina. Christina, it'll be good to hear you this morning. I heard Thomas earlier so take the opportunity to say good morning to Christina as well. Thank you, Orion. KC6 only.
Speaker A: Well, thank you for dropping in, saying hi and we'll catch you later. KC6SOLE AI6JB. Good morning Christina. AK6SU. How are you doing this morning?
Speaker F: Good morning Orion. And good morning graduates too. I'm doing really well. I actually I spent an hour this morning on 40 meters with two of the people who are in my CW class with me practicing fusos and so yeah, doing good start to the day. It's a beautiful day. We might go do a poda.
Speaker A: Oh, congratulations. Congratulations. Are you feeling good enough, comfortable enough to do a PODA with cw? Are you that far along yet?
Speaker F: That's a negative. But we may, while we're there, I may try to find some other people who are hunting PODA and give them an unknown park to park. But I'm definitely not ready to call CQ yet.
Speaker A: Yeah, I got to a point where I was almost there and found other things to cocky by my time. So congratulations. Stick with it. How are you learning? You said you mentioned a class. Are you taking CW ops or, or
Speaker C: what are those kind of classes?
Speaker F: CW ops there? CW Academy. I did the beginner class September and October and I'm in the fundamental class right now. And the way they have this class is structured. It's so well put together. I see why people like it so much.
Speaker A: I'm sorry, I didn't hear. Was it the CW ops or was it the CW Academy? Or are they the one and the same.
Speaker F: Academy is put on by cwops. So it's basically the same thing. I think most people refer to it as CWOps, but all of the instructors refer to it as CW Academy. And yeah, it's all the same just to confuse everyone.
Speaker A: Yeah, I know Jeff KW6U is working that and he says it's very, very nice. Derek w6der he got the fever at one of our field days and he said they run a great program and I mean, it's all about how much time you put into it. If you put the time into it, they will catch up to speed.
Speaker F: Unfortunately, been a little bit of the hard part for me. The class I'm in right now, you commit to a one hour class twice a week. And so with that I was like, I can do that. And then, you know, practice time on your own. But the class I'm in right now, they're actually doing two hours a week for the two hours per class session. So two times a week and then almost every single day they have some kind of other practice session that you can join. And it's quite the time commitment. And those who are able to join, all of those, they're doing really well. I'm not able to join all of them, but I'm trying my best to still get time in and practice.
Speaker A: See, and that was my problem. I had too many other things going on. I was too involved in the club. And so, yeah, I have a lot of excuses for why it didn't work out. But I think the fundamental problem was I just didn't put the time in it that it needed.
Speaker F: I think the most painful part is that they had us download and. And now of course, I can't think of what it is where it'll notify you for different call signs if it hears them on the air. And during the SST on Friday, I'll start seeing all of their call signs coming through while I'm sitting on Zoom meetings. It's like, I want to go play and practice too.
Speaker A: Yeah, that's got to be a great motivator. Oh, there's all my classmates in. I am not there. Very cool. Well, I'm glad you're enjoying that and I hope someday you'll be able to feel comfortable with a PODA doing cw, especially since we're coming into the minimums. You know, the solar activity is starting to diminish. So CW is going to become more and more of a better option than phone. So congratulations, Christina. Great to hear you Got both you and Thomas this morning, so that's kind of nice. You made my weekend. AK60. You AI6JB73. Okay. Good morning, November 6th.
Speaker C: Papa.
Speaker B: Papa.
Speaker C: Papa.
Speaker A: I believe that is Christopher. According to qrz. You go by Christopher or Chris. N6ppp.ai6jb. All right, no contact. All right, let's go down to patrick. Good morning, patrick. N6yc. Kn6ycg. How are you doing today? It's been a while. Hey, Orion. I'm at the bait shop here in Sarasota, Florida, buying some live bait and some fishing stuff. Happy to check in from Sarasota. Yeah, it must be rough. Everybody north of you is in the teens and you're probably in the 60s and 70s temperature wise, right?
Speaker C: Yes.
Speaker A: It's due to 70 today, so I'm
Speaker E: looking forward to the nice weather.
Speaker A: I'm literally on my beach cruiser and shorts and flip flops and I'm gonna go fish the Sarasota Bay. Well, I'm gonna get out of your way and let you go do that. Have a wonderful weekend fishing there in Sarasota, Florida. And I bet everybody who is listening to us from the Northeast is probably very envious. Patrick, have a great weekend. Great checking in with you. KN6YCG, AI6JB. Hey, thanks, Orion. KN6YCG. I'm full. Check in once I get to my little fishing spot. Sorry. I knew I was going to queue up as soon as I started to pay for my loot here. Have a great day. I'll talk to you later. Yeah, no worries. Feel free to drop in anytime. A little break. Let's go to Greg Ko6th. Good morning, Greg. How are you doing today?
Speaker C: Good morning. Good morning, everyone.
Speaker A: Greg Ko6th.
Speaker C: What's one of those mornings that you wake up with nothing to do and you figure by the end of the day it's going to be half done? Much stuff going on. I got a boat boat day on Monday, so I'm preparing for that. Woke up or just going to bed a couple nights ago and.
Speaker A: Whoa, wait a minute.
Speaker C: I realized I'm planning to take the boat out actually, and we're swapping berths with the prior owner has this slip next to mine. So we're gonna take the boat out a little bit and I'm gonna try to do a little bit of stuff on my own. I have the computer all set up and running with the navigation stuff. On it. And I got a way of extending that out into the cockpit so I can see what I'm doing while I'm driving. Everything's all set up and I realized, wait a minute, as soon as I unplug from shore power, that computer is going to go off. I don't have the inverter in yet, so I got to scramble here and figure out a way of. I have a couple little plug in things, you know, cigarette lighter kind of stuff that I think will do it. But got to check out some stuff. The one I'm hoping to use, the sand's gone out on. So I got to work on that today.
Speaker F: So it's like.
Speaker C: And then yesterday we had the tree guy came by. One of the oak trees is looking very, very, very, very stressed. They did a big pruning on it last year and he thinks maybe we overdid that a bit. So it's.
Speaker A: He says yeah, it's probably going to
Speaker C: be okay, but here's some ideas on making things a little bit nicer for it. So it's a little landscape redoing out there, so it's never a dull day. Ksxth, back to you.
Speaker A: Yeah, I always love the best late plans. And then you realize, oops, there's a flaw in my plan. So yeah, getting a little inverter. Yeah, getting a little inverter or cigarette lighter I guess for a computer is probably not a big deal as long as you have the right DC to DC converter there. So it should make it work just fine. Well, it sounds like you're having fun with your sailboat. It's kind of nice that the former owner is willing to take you out and show you the ropes.
Speaker C: Yeah, that's. Last trip down there I got the cigarette light outlet working again. It was not happy. So replace that, replace the wiring. It's only got a 10amp fuse on it though. So I only be pulling about five, five or six peak. So it's just a little nook, kind of a computer, a monitor. And it's a nice monitor, but it's low power. And then I've got the network hub that needs to get powered. I don't have that here so I can't, I can't simulate that. I don't know, it'll. I think it'll work out. I've got two different inverters. One that's more powerful with a bad fan which I am looking at right now, and then the other one that does not have a fan on it, but it's only a 95 watts, so that one's maybe pushing a little bit. I don't know. We'll see. But anyway, on with the day. Looking forward to the game changer tomorrow. The beer is in the fridge. That's the pizza. And we're just gonna sit back and watch the commercials. Mostly KO6th back to Ned.
Speaker A: Yeah, it seems like most people talk about it's more the commercials than actually the game. All right, well, who are you voting for or rooting for?
Speaker C: I really have no allegiance this time. Probably the 49ers, if that's. I don't know, just because of history, but, you know, we're growing up in the Bay area, but my wife was from the.
Speaker A: The.
Speaker C: My wife's parents were from the Seattle area, so it may be a little bit of, you know, deference to that.
Speaker A: I don't know. I just.
Speaker C: It's. It's. It's usually a good game, so we'll sit back and watch that and work on. And the power supply, the one that was always giving me grief, that one failed again, I think.
W6rfh monitoring system 9. Link off. K6lmk system 36, snow mountain range.
Speaker A: I now know what's going on. At least this time I think it's static. I remember a couple of times standing up this blanket that it powers big, you know, not made in nature kind of chemicals making the fabric, you know, nylon. What's the a. Anyway, standing up and getting a shock as I get out of my seat with this blanket, I, I bet I zapped it. I mean it was on but I bet I zapped the power supply with static because the driver transistor, the one that's upstream of the power fets, it's toast. It's just like it's not even there. It's like no connection on any pin. Something really killed it and that isn't because of all the current. Something else came in there. So anyway, that one is on the workbench for a later day. K06th
Speaker B: yeah, I think I would probably lose my patience with that thing. Are you thinking rayon is the man made material that just zapped your power supply?
Speaker A: Actually I was thinking of acrylic or rayon. It's a wool like thing. It's got heating wires in it and you plug it into the power supply. It's designed for your car, the car adapter. It's a travel blanket and so 12 volts I've been since the power supply died, I've been using a lithium battery. Just charge that back up every couple of days. But tonight, actually tonight's supposed to be a star party. It's a little cloudy outside for a star party but we're going to, we're going to make a go Abbott and so that's. Yeah, so the battery, I need the battery for the star party tonight. And reminder I need to download new software. They got a new version of the acquisition software tryout.
Speaker B: So anyway, yeah, busy, like I said, busy day.
Speaker A: Ko60h on with the day.
Speaker B: Well, I'm sorry to hear that you went from nothing to do to way too much to do but sounds like life is keeping you busy there Greg. Hey, thanks for joining us on the coffee breaknet. We'll catch you Friday night for. For our club meeting at our new meeting location. K06TH AI6JB73 looking forward to it.
Speaker A: Orion7831KO6TH
Speaker B: speaking of club meeting, we have our monthly club meetings on the second Friday of the month. This, this month it's going to be Friday, February 13th. I hope that isn't an omen on how things are going to go at our new location, but we're going to give it a shot. Starts at 7:30pm at the placer County Health and Human Services Conference center in Auburn. So check out our website w6ek.org for more information. The best access and easy access they're telling me here is take bell Road from I80 and follow it in and it should be great. We got Jeff N5Jef, who is part of the Placer County Radio team going to give us a presentation on Mesh core. Yes, Mesh core is a mesh system very similar to meshtastic but the architecture is different and we now have a mesh core repeater in our vault there in Auburn. So if you want to learn more about what that is and what what it can do and all the nitty gritty, Jeff is a great speaker and he'll be able to give us some good rundown. So that's this coming Friday, February 13th, 7:30 at our new location at the Placer County Health and Human Services Conference Center. We have a monthly breakfast. It's on the last Saturday of the month. This month it's going to be February 28th, 7:30am at Mel's Diner on Highway 49. Just take Highway 49 up until you see Mel's there on the right hand side. And then after our breakfast we have a Fox hunt and the Fox hunt the Fox Tenders today or this month is going to be Marty Ko6GXX Fox Hunt will start air at Mel's Diner around 9 o'. Clock. So if you want to join in on the fox hunter hunt, check us out on Saturday, February 28th at 9am no, you don't have to have any equipment. There will be plenty of people there that either loan you something or maybe you can ride along and see how the whole process works. You don't need a license so bring your friends and family. Great fun. I've had a chance to do a few of myself and always come away with a smile on my face. Fox hunt Saturday, February 28th 9am. And this is the be there or B square announcement for the Loomis Ham Fest. Yes, we sponsor a ham fest on Saturday, March 28th at 7am at the historic Loomis train station off of Highway 80. Great location, great way to get in and out and definitely put that one on your calendar. It will go rain or shine. But don't worry, it does never rains on Hamfest. We may experience some heavy dew. That's Hamfest Saturday, March 28th at the Loomis train station. All right, we have some in person VE sessions available. Our next one on the list here is going to be the Folsom ve team Thursday, February 16th at 6pm in Folsom. So check out the website. Oh, looks like the announcements just got updated. March 2 March 2 Monday, March 2, 7pm at the Confluence Church. Again, if you want to sign up or look for more information, go to hampstudy.org and RSVP. Thank you Brian. Love it. Doing the announcements and they start updating for you. Okay, we have a few nets on this repeater. First one on Monday night is the all notes notes 6pm Any question about notes, check it out at 6pm on this repeater. Then you heard about Wednesdays. First and third Wednesdays we have Elmer Net starting at 7:30pm with Eric W6EMR and then on the second and fourth, fourth Wednesdays we have in the Shake Shack we take it to Zoom at 7:30pm Pacific Time and we talk about what's sitting on our benches. And maybe you got a challenging question you can get answered there in the shack. Second and fourth Wednesdays. And then every Thursday night we have our 2 meter net for the club and we get to hear from our officers, hear what's going on in the club. We got to hear what's going on going on at arl. We get a satellite report, we get mystery questions and we can see what folks are doing in their shacks. Ham related I'm assuming. And so check us out for the 2 meter net on Thursday nights at 7:30pm and then first and third Friday. You may have heard somebody mention this morning that they dropped in on the trivia night last night. So we have trivia night first and third Friday 7:30pm right here on the this repeater. All right, those are the announcements that I have. Let's go ahead for a round of in and outs. In and outs on the coffee break then
Speaker C: N2DYI.
Speaker B: Alrighty, we had a bit of a little bit of buffalo there, but here's who I heard. K a3vgm, km6lyw, kk6am, kb6ssn and n2d yi. Who did I miss?
Speaker C: Okay, I keyed down but it was katie's excuse at h and actually I need to run. So good morning and have a great kd6 music.
Speaker B: Alrighty Peter, you have a great day. We got you in the log but don't tell Brian. I don't want him to get mad at me. So we got you down. All right, anybody else want to drop in real quick for an in and out? Kilo bravo 1, papa, zulu, sierra, bob in connecticut. And we have Bob, KP1, Papa Zulu, Sierra. Thanks for joining us. I'll be right back with you, Bob. Let's throw it to the top. Good morning Patrick. N2 we Dunlock. Boy, I screwed that one up. Let's try it again. Good morning Patrick. N2D Yi, how are you doing today?
Speaker C: Hey, good morning Orion. Just turned afternoon here just a few seconds ago. So good after morning I guess now officially. Well, this is the first time I've checked into a net on an all star node through an actual radio in actual months. I know who to thunk it. An amateur radio operator using a radio. Man, that's weird.
Speaker B: Not for you because you always use wireless or radio list nodes which I'm envious because it seems like if you're going in the net you might as well just use radius node. But what radio? See I don't have the ear you have. So what radio are you using to get into your node?
Speaker C: Well, I've got an ASL3 node set up here with Ashari and I'm using a TYT MD UV380 radio to get into it on UHF and yeah, I mean for net control especially, I really enjoy using radio less nodes because they're full duplex and all that sort of thing. Just get directly into the system. Of course if you don't have a stable Internet connection and you have a better RF path to whatever you're getting into, then that's obviously going to be your better option. But yeah, that's what I'm using today. Just got this node set up yesterday. I've been meaning to set it up for. Oh gosh, I'VE been here for a month and a half and got the gear to set it up about a week after I got here and I just got it set up yesterday. So there you go, procrastination at its finest.
Speaker B: Well, you just got the road yesterday, got the radio yesterday and all fired up today. That's not procrastination. That is type A personality for sure. How's the weather down there in North Carolina? We're hearing from everybody else, it's pretty cold back there.
Speaker C: It's pretty reasonably cold. When I got up this morning, it was 26 degrees and the wind was blowing at about 35 miles per hour. So we had a wind chill somewhere around minus 6, minus 7, something like that. I don't remember now, but it's going to warm up. We'll be in the 60s by the middle of the week.
Speaker B: Yeah, just when we start going down and starting to get some rain here, which we can desperately use. All right, Patrick, well, you have a wonderful week. Thanks for checking in. Are you going to be checking in on the Super Bowl?
Speaker C: I will not. I'll leave that to others. My usual thing for the super bowl is if you watch it backwards, the teams always tie at zero. It's so predictable every year.
Speaker B: Okay, got that one. You have a great weekend. Thanks for joining us. N2d ai6jb73 73 orion have a good one.
Speaker C: N2dyi.
Speaker B: All righty. Good morning tom, kb6ssa and how are you doing today?
Speaker D: Well, good morning, Orean. KB6SSN Tom here. Yes, I'm doing quite well today, thank you very much. I slept in this morning and slept most of yesterday. I woke up too early yesterday. We got a lot done yesterday, but I went to bed, oh gosh, I don't know, something like one or two o' clock in the afternoon. I didn't wake up till midnight and then I'm wide awake at midnight. So yeah, I went back to bed at something like 4 o'. Clock. I just woke up a little while ago, so I'm fully rested now. I just got to find something to do with all this energy. But yesterday we did make some major progress. After talking about it for months and months and months, Larry and I finally got out the big Henry floor ramp yesterday and got it all assembled and fired up and it needs a little bit more work, but it is working perfectly. And we found out that the tubes that were, that came with it were a little on the soft side, but I have replacements so there's no issue there. And the multimeter doesn't work, so we're going to have to. We already had that all torn apart by the end of yesterday, so it's a matter of just putting it back together and making it work. So. But yeah, she did fine blowing full legal limit into the dummy load. And next time I'm out there, we're going to put it up on the antenna and see if we can milk that puppy.
Speaker B: Yeah, we chatted about it last weekend. That should be fun. Be exciting. What kind of antennas you got working that you can be able to do that with?
Speaker D: Well, we have the Ultimax antenna installed right now and allegedly it is rated for 2kW, so we're going to find out and we're only going to put 1.5 into it. That's the legal limit. So that's as far as we're going. Yeah, yesterday we were able to push that dummy load to its full 2k capacity. So the amplifier is working extremely well. And if you want to take a look at it, we posted three videos up on our YouTube channel yesterday. Confederate Sun 1, if you are interested in that sort of thing. My favorite of the three is the one called Glow in the Dark Radio, which shows the two glowing inside the amplifier. I think that's kind of neat. I like those views.
Speaker B: I've got a note. I will double check those out and see what.
Speaker A: Oh, look at that.
Speaker B: It pops right up on my screen. I don't even have to type it in anymore. You said glow in the dark. Is that what you said?
Speaker D: Just take a look at the very first of the short videos. That should be the one called Glow in the Dark. There's three of them there that feature the. The amplifier from yesterday. Just three little short videos. And one shows the inside of the amplifier right after we finished assembling it before we turned it on. The other one shows it up and running after we tested it and everything was working. And then the third one, I realized in the first video I didn't show the tubes. So I went back and did a video of showing all the. The tubes blowing, all that kind of fun stuff.
Speaker C: Alrighty.
Speaker B: I will definitely drop in and take a look at that. Well, thanks for checking us out. And are you rooting for anybody in the super bowl tomorrow?
Speaker D: Well, I am going to be the winner of the super bowl tomorrow because I'm not going to watch it. We are right in the middle of the beginning of the World Winter Olympics and that's where I will be spending my sporting time, is probably watching curling because it is much more interesting to me than football. And curling is not the slightest but interesting to me. Yeah, I think we've had the discussions of that. Football is just too gay for my taste. But that's a whole other thing. If you like football, more power to you. I hope you enjoy the game.
Speaker B: Well, I saw some quick, quick tidbits. Apparently the Americans are doing quite well in curling this year. So you'll have somebody to root for.
Speaker D: Yes. As a matter of fact, I watched mixed doubles last night in one o' clock in the morning of the American curling team and we were doing very well. Yes, we beat Chechnya, I believe. And yeah, so you know, I don't like football if I'm watching curling.
Speaker B: Right.
Speaker D: Also I watched the team competition of the figure skating. They did the rhythmic skating and then they did the pairs last night and those were actually really quite good. Amazing skill that these folks have on these ice skates. And then, yeah, some of the good stuff like the hockey and all that kind of stuff, it's coming up pretty soon here. So, you know, it's, it's going to be a good Winter Olympics. So they've got a great venue. They had a wonderful opening ceremony. Andrea Bocelli sang Nessel Dorma. You know Puccini's famous aria for the opening ceremony. Yeah, it couldn't have been better if it had to be. So it's, it's a fun Olympics. If you're not into football, watch the Olympics. If you're not into either. Hey, you know what? There's this thing called ham radio. I hear it's a lot of fun.
Speaker B: Hey, sounds like a plan. Tom, you have a wonderful weekend. We'll catch you next week. KB6SSN AI6JB73 Good morning, Ray. KK6am how are you doing today? Well, it's morning. I do love Tom's description of football as being too gay. I'm not a football fan, never have been. So. So I can get into what he says. Okay, so obviously you're not going to be watching the teams and rooting for any particular one? We've had some folks say, hey, you know, it's probably more fun just to watch the commercials. Are you one of those? No, I am an anti commercial person. In all cases. I am quite willing to pay extra on all of my.
The Gears Net will be held Tuesday night starting at 7:30pm all amateur radio operators are welcome to join in on the net W6 RHC repeater check 2.
Los Angeles linked up.
Speaker A: Video subscriptions to get commercial free. I guess it goes back to my childhood. I think of seeing commercials and that's the things that all the rest of the kids get and I don't. Oh yeah, Sorry about that. Still got this cough. It's kind of lingering, so. Yeah. Well, you have a wonderful day, Ray, and we'll catch you next time on the coffee breaknet. KK 6:00am AI6JB73 KK 6:00am. Good morning to Craig.km6lyw. How are you doing and how things go for you?
Speaker B: Hey, good morning Oregon.
Speaker A: In the net.
Speaker B: HAM in Coloma.
Speaker A: Yeah, unfortunately Coloma is just a little out of reach for this repeater. You want to give it one more time, Craig?
Speaker B: 737734K6LY Police.
Speaker A: That's bummer. I was hoping to chat with you but unfortunately the propagation gods and geography are not going to be cooperating with us today. If you get back into some good terrain, feel free to drop back in. Good morning. Good evening. Good morning, Craig. KM6OYW AI6G all righty, let's go. Take it over to Jimmy. KA3VGM. Good morning, Jimmy. How are you today?
Speaker C: Good morning, Corey. I'm doing fine back here in cold Pennsylvania. 12 degrees according to the last forecast I pulled up on the computer. So that's that story. And unlike everybody else, I will be doing all three. I will be watching the Olympics, I will be watching the ball game and I will be air radioing a quinto multitasking person. Oh, I did do all three. So everybody back there, have a good day and enjoy your nice warm weather. We're supposed to get something for next week.
Speaker D: I hear.
Speaker C: K3BTM back to net.
Speaker A: Yeah, sounds like we're going to be trading places. We've got the warm weather this week. We're going to get traded for some rain and snow and enjoy watching the Olympics. Do you have a particular event you like watching the best?
Speaker C: Skating. And I will watch it all. I'm not that particular. I like sports.
Speaker A: Awesome. Very cool. All right, well have a great week watching actually. What is it like 14 days. So it's a great two weeks watching the Olympics and the skating. I kind of like watching the biathlon. I think that's kind of cool too. Shooting and cross country skiing. Ka3VGM AI6JB73. Good morning, bob. Kb1pzs. How are you doing today? And how's over there in connecticut? Yeah, well, we got, we got snow overnight.
Speaker E: Picked up about 3 inches. The last big storm we had there about three weeks ago. We got about 20 inches which hasn't melted yet because hasn't been above freezing since then. And so we picked up another three. So eventually I got to get out
Speaker A: there and start clearing
Speaker E: tonight into tomorrow. We're supposed to get a wind chill of negative 35 degrees in the northern part of the state and supposed to be negative 22 for for the rest of the state. So I am looking forward to that. So that's what's going on here. Back to that control.
Speaker A: Ouch. That is really cold. Yeah, we were Talking to Roy Wa 78, she's up in Freedom, Pennsylvania. He was talking about the three of them are going to go out and shovel some snow this morning or this afternoon whatever the case may be because they had some snow as well. So that must have been both the same storm. Alrighty. Well, I suggest with minus 35 wind chill you can stay inside and stay warm and comfy perhaps. I don't know if you're an Olympic watcher or a football watcher or a football commercial watcher, but whatever you do, stay inside and stay warm. KV1, PC AI6JB73. All right folks, that's the list as I have it. Let's go to do some rag chew or whatever. If you want an in n out just let me know. We'll put you down as an in n out, float you to the top. But otherwise we'll assume that you want to hang around and check chit chat for a while. Looking for check ins on the coffee breaknet AI6JB,
Speaker F: Kilo 6, Delta X Ray, November and N6FMD in and out.
Speaker G: Kilo 6 papa, kilim, k6, ktl
Speaker B: alpha india 6, uniform sierra. In and out.
Speaker H: Elo delta 3 alpha juliet november. In and out.
Speaker A: Good morning Anna. Got you as an in n out. Good morning Brian. Got you as an in n out. And Simone, I got you and oh, N6FMD. Name's not coming to me but I got you guys in and out. Hang tight, we'll be right back with you. There was a one station in there. I think it was a kilo Lima 6. Could I get the rest of that call sign?
Speaker G: Kilo 6 papa kilima k6. Thank you.
Speaker A: Okay, let me make sure I got it right. It's a kilo six papa lima bravo. Is that correct,
Speaker F: Papa?
Speaker E: Kisses.
Speaker A: Ladies. Pkl. Kilo Lima. My apologies for that. We'll be right. Were you an in n out or you want to Ragtu,
Speaker D: Want a rag?
Speaker C: Chill.
Speaker A: All right, let Me. Clear out. Clear away the in and outs and I'll be right back with you. All right, let's throw it to the top two. Oh, wait a minute. Did I miss anybody on that? Last call for check in.
Speaker D: Whiskey alpha 6, yankee, november, echo, quick in and out.
Speaker A: And Scott, we got you as an in and out as well. Good morning, Simone. K6DXN, sounds like you are heading out for a poda.
Speaker F: Hey, Orion, how's it going? K6DXN with November 6th fox. Got Jimmy here. Yeah, we're on our way back from a poda. PODA expedition there.
Speaker B: We.
Speaker D: We have.
Speaker F: We're gonna hit one more here, Auburn Recreational, just to throw it in, but we got nine. This will be nine parks. We went and did five parks in Nevada, out in the Badlands and had a good old time. Saw how the other half lives got lost. Almost went to the Oregon border. Had no gps, no cell phone service.
Speaker D: Yeah.
Speaker F: No compass, no map. It was pretty sketchy out there, but we got her done. We activated four parks for the first time. We were first activators yesterday. We did one near Reno. Did Donner Pass A little while ago on the top of Donner Pass, which is three parks, counts for three parks. And we're gonna hit Auburn Recreational and do a quick one here from the car and then head home. So that's our story and that's it. So back to you. K6DXN, N6FMD.
Speaker A: That sounds exciting. Sounds like congratulations on your four first timers. That sounds wonderful. Please, real quickly explain to me how Donner is a three park.
Speaker F: Okay, so if you park at Donner Lake, it counts for Donner Lake, it counts for the Tahoe National Forest, and it also counts for the California. California Historic Trail. All three parks. As long as you're in the Donner Lake. Yeah, right at the entrance of Donner Lake there. It definitely counts for three parks.
Speaker A: Very cool. I was figuring Donner Lake and Tahoe Forest, but I couldn't think of what the third one would be, so. Well, congratulations, guys. That's clever picking that up. Like I said, very good, very good. You guys have a safe drive and have fun activating Auburn Regional. And I won't be able to hear you on the radio today, but this will be good enough for now. K6DXN, N6FMD. AI6JB73. All right.
Speaker F: Hey, seven three. Everybody have a good weekend out there. Thanks for taking us, seven three.
Speaker D: We're out.
Speaker A: 73, guys. Good morning, Brian. AI six us. I see you are in the log here. How are you doing today?
Speaker B: Hey, good morning Norian. Everybody on the net? No, that was me on the last round. I was trying to check in through the W6GRC repeater system up in Orland. I actually can get a full scale signal out of, out of Orland up here in Metavista. So I was trying to check in that pass but there's evidently still having some problems with their repeater. So yeah, could hear the coffee break just great. But when I key up up there the RF just must stay local. Doesn't come on to the onto the All Star anyway. No, I was up early this morning, played around a little bit on 1 64, 4 o' clock in the morning I ran across Eric W3EMR calling CQ and yeah, DX wasn't very good on 160 today but 80 meters and 40 meters pretty good other than that just looks overcast. Looks like we have another weather system rolling in. So gonna pull the COVID on the RV today, get it put back away for a couple months after the winter field day. So yeah, a couple things on the schedule today to get done.
Speaker A: Yeah, I still have to get most get my winter field day stuff packed away as well and also I got to get that log turned in. Fortunately we have a little bit of time but need to get that going as well. Yeah, I kept seeing the W6 GRC pop up here. It would, it would open up the, it would open up the repeater but I mean it would open up supermod but nothing would come through, no audio. So that's just a little bit of feedback there. Brian, thanks for dropping in. Always a pleasure.ai6us ai6jb
Speaker B: well actually that's good to hear because I only tried coming in once. So if you've seen an activity. I've seen quite a bit of activity in the past week as well. So that means at least people are trying to get in through W6GRC repeater. So as soon as they get that fixed I guess we'll be hearing a lot more people from Northern California up to the Oregon border. So you have a great day and we'll chat with you later. Ai6us
Speaker A: I will do. Will do. All right, let's take it to Anna. Katie3ajn. Good morning Anna.
Speaker H: Good morning Orion and everyone else on the net today. Still cold here. It's 13 degrees with a wind chill of minus 3 right now. Not weather that you want to go
Speaker C: out and walk in.
Speaker A: Other than that, not too much else
Speaker H: on going on Here. Just staying in and staying warm. Everybody have a great weekend. KD3HAN.
Speaker A: Yeah, I've heard numerous reports that the east coast is pretty darn cold right now. And I got a report that they're expecting in Connecticut. They're expecting minus 35 wind check later on either this weekend or the first part of next week.
Speaker G: So.
Speaker A: Yeah, stay warm there, Anna. Stay warm. 83 I'm sorry. KD3HAN AI6JB73. Good morning, scott. Wa6yne how are you doing today?
Speaker C: I am well, doing fine.
Speaker D: Hope everyone else is too. It's like typical Saturday. Headed in to do some volunteer work with disabled and some veterans.
Speaker C: Other than that, just a little busy day.
Speaker D: Looking forward to tomorrow, taking some time with the family.
Speaker F: Anyway, that, that's all I have.
Speaker D: Debbie's, back to you.
Speaker A: You know, I got a word of advice that you probably should find a job where you can talk to me more. Longer on the coffee break, Nick. I always feel sorry for you have to drop in on Saturday to go to work. Any chance you're going to be watching the super bowl tomorrow or maybe watching some Olympics with the family?
Speaker D: I'm not a Super bowl fan. I like college football. Especially when you get some of those Midwestern big guys out there doing it for fun, not for the money. That's the football. I like that. And soccer, the other football. I like watching that quite a bit. Especially at the end of the season when you've got the crazy Europeans knocking fences down and just getting all emotional. And when you get like the Chivas out there playing.
Speaker C: Yeah, it's a blood sport.
Speaker D: Those are the sports I like. Yeah. Not an Olympic fan. Yeah, not for me. And I am training some new trainees. And my hope is by this summer I have people covering the Saturdays for me so I don't have to do it anymore. So I'm looking forward to that. Anyways, back to you.
Speaker A: Oh, glad to hear it. Glad to hear it. Maybe we'll see you more on the, on the contest, in the contest site. We'd love to have you there.
Speaker C: Alrighty.
Speaker A: Well, yes, college football. I do enjoy watching college football and I'm torn between soccer. I, I do like watching soccer. I do like watching some of the European sport, European teams, but, you know, it's pretty slow. It's kind of a slow game, but plenty of opportunity to visit friends that way. So, anyway, you have a wonderful weekend, Scott, and I'm sorry you have to work. We'll catch you next time. WA6C YNE sorry. WA6YNE AI6JB73. Alrighty. Good morning, wayne ke6pkl. Is this the first time we've chatted?
Speaker G: Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, my handle is Bill, by the way. Baker Idolate Malema. And it might be, could be. I only check in here once in a while, so I'm coming through the Fireside Network on my All Star repeater here at my house. So I've got a Simplex repeater and it goes out, well, a long ways, miles.
Speaker E: So.
Speaker G: And I want to mention that, you know, when the hams were on there earlier, talking about Wheatland and all that up there and Beal, I found that really interesting. It brought me back memories because I have worked on a generator install job at Beale Air Force Base for about a year. I was up there about a year and I stayed over to Marehouse over there in the Holiday Inn and so forth. And while I was there and I go up on a Monday and go come back on a Friday, so. And I knew another electrician that I worked with. His name was Rick Dorsh and he was from Wheat and his XYO was a judge down there, so Superior Court judge. So I knew about that. And so again, the development down there was really interesting to me what's happening down there as far as developing all that open land and housing and so forth. So, yeah, ham radio sort of opens up my thing and I can say, man, I'm glad I don't live in the East. I wouldn't survive. I like this warm California weather. I call it warm because it's a lot warmer than a minus of 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. Couldn't agree more. When was that generator installed?
Speaker G: It was back in 2002.
D.
Speaker A: N6w I p
Speaker B: n6mtm.
Speaker A: Good morning.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Hey, you want to know what's going on with AI and the new. I'm not going to call it the new World Order, but it is exactly that. You need to go and go on FOX Live and listen to Elon Musk and Pete Hegseth. You're gonna be blown away and I can't wait to hear your
Speaker A: take on it. Are you bus. Well,
Speaker B: Hegseth has with Elon's, of course, attention several people that are going to change the way we do things. There's a, there's a good. He didn't say this, but I can see where it's going. No taxes. People aren't going to have to pay taxes. Trump's headed this country and this world, this world into big going to be so rich that there isn't going to be any need for people to donate. They'll be able to donate if they want to, if they're, if they're happy with the richness that's going to be embarked upon them. They can give money to government if they want to, but it's not going to be a requirement. You're going to love this whole thing. All right. I won't detract your attention. Hope other people out here are hearing this. Let me see. I can't see how long this thing here lasted. A half an hour or something like that. Hegseth is still talking, but amazing. Mr. J. Yep. You can find it on YouTube and it's called Elon and Hegatz because all you'll have to put on that SpaceX. N6MTM I'm back at it. All
Speaker A: right. Good luck with your project. Sounds fun, Jay. Nn6mtm.
Speaker A: In 2003.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's changed quite a bit from then. Back then we were doing a fire station down there at Plumas Lakes and I was just looking at, while I was talking to Joshua, I was looking at Google Maps and the satellite version and I could see that, I could see that that Plumas Lakes area has really grown as well. And you can see they got lots of. I mean it's now even actually on the other side of the freeway. Back in the early 2000s, they didn't have stuff on the east side of the freeway there. So yeah, Beale Air Force Base. I was kind of thinking that they were going to start. I mean, I know they would never close it down because it's a former SAC base and there's a lot of infrastructure there that they need. But I didn't expect them to start putting more people in there. And I can't remember what the number, what Joshua was saying, but it sounded like it was a huge number of people they're going to add to the place.
Speaker A: Well, I got plenty of land out there to do that. And I was all over the base. Also I did infrared scanning of the high voltage lines where they had construction. And also I worked up the radar site up there. That's between Beale Air Force Basin and Grass Valley. So as you go up the highway up there, it's a. Up on the hill. So I worked in their radar station too on their electrical systems there. So we did their circuit breakers and all that stuff. And so I know how that works up there, but. And so yeah, I was all over there. But yeah, for expansion. Well, yeah, they have lots of room there to do that. And also if you on the base, they have. It's not too much left of it, but they had also the. Where they house the Japanese during World War II. And that's just as you go in the basin and to the right up there is where that area was, K6PTO.
Speaker B: Yeah. That's kind of a dark side of our history there as well. Yeah, huge base. Very huge base. Interesting base. They used to have the SR71 out there. They still have the U2, but I heard also they're running a lot of drones as well.
Speaker A: Yeah, they pretty well got away from, from the U2s. In fact, when I was there in that period, well, that's what they were running out there and watch the U2s take off and watch them getting refueled and all that stuff. But yeah, everything's pretty well went to drones now. So, you know, now you don't have. And the drones actually are the type that if one of them goes down to enemy territory, there's really nothing for them to get in there that's classified. So basically it's a good change in technology. And, you know, what those pilots had to go through on the U2s to be able to fly was really amazing. They had to be prepped out to be able to sit in that seat for as many hours as they did.
Speaker B: Yeah, one of the dads in my Boy Scout troop or our Boy Scout troop, He was a U2 pilot out there, and he was actually a training pilot. And one of the things they do is when they find a candidate who might want to join the U2 team, you know, then they take him on a flight and he said he was in the back seat and they were coming in for a landing and the candidate was in the front seat. And it got so squarely and. And scared him so much. He just kind of. He said they were almost right ready to touch down. He just took his hands off the control and said, you're plane. And he said, this guy was a seasoned, seasoned, seasoned pilot. That completely freaked him out.
Speaker A: Well, I can imagine, you know, and you know, especially well during the time that I worked for the dod Department of Defense, which was Navy, and then it went, because of base clothes, went to work for the Air Force at Travis Air Force Base and that. And so I had a secret security clearance, so I was able to go in all those areas. But basically I found all that really interesting. So, you know how all that operates and we got to go out there and see you two close up and so forth. But man, they watched it, so you don't want to cross the red line. And. Yeah, so during that time I was there, well, it was quite entertaining. And the building that I worked in was a spy station and that's where they processed the film and everything for the U2 planes and all that. So, you know, back in the earlier days, they had photographic film and later, you know, they went to electronic processing the pictures. So I went through conversion there. K6 PTO.
Speaker B: Yeah, I went to Marysville High. And during that time there was. SR71s were out there and we would. My friend's dad was the fire chief for Beale. And so we would go on base and play golf at the golf course. And you could always tell when SR71 was about ready to take off because you would see a bunch of T38s and the KC 135 take off and you'd say okay, about 30 minutes later, you know, an SR was going to be flying over your head. And sure enough, that's exactly when it would happen.
Speaker A: Yeah, I bet that would be interesting. So, and I found BL Air Force Base does a lot of politicking and so for that base to go away would be probably very unlikely. And secondly, well, it does a lot of support, you know, jobs for the local community. So actually has a good use. And that's the reason why also Travis Air Force Base hangs around because of politics over in Fairfield. And that's where I was, where I came out of it. Yeah. So it was just part of a, part of my experience. Experience working for Department of Defense and traveling around the country and all that. And so yeah, you know, hearing the changes that have taken place up there, I could bet, you know, and what's happened there. But, and I, yeah, that's interesting that the base is going through a buildup. Casey speaking.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's great because now we can all speculate what are they doing, what are they planning on. Yeah, because it is one of the more top secret bases with pave paws there and they do a lot of
Speaker C: reconnaissances out of there, so.
Speaker B: Very cool. Well Bill, it's great chatting with you again. Apologize. I got your call sign wrong. I wrote it as K. Kiloecho 6 and realized oops, that's not what you're.
Speaker D: Doing.
Speaker A: Yeah. One last comment. You know, if you want to see the military bases, just go into Google and go to Google Earth view and there, you know, it's interesting because if you go on the street maps the military bases, you won't see the streets there, they have blacked out. But if you go in and use the Google and you can actually go up there and you can see the PayPal's radar antennas and that's flat array radar that uses a phased array. So and that's down in the 400 meg band is where that's located. So. And I had to go visit one clear out in the Lucian Islands too. I had to go out to that base out there shimmy. And basically I, you know, so I've been around on those things that, yeah, it's interesting going into the radar station in there and working in there. So and that covers the west coast. So it's really important they have by the way, the base has signs put
Speaker B: up
Speaker A: if you trespass on that a paw sign up there, they'll shoot and kill you. K6PTL Sensories.
Speaker B: I don't doubt that for one bit. A Few years back, actually quite a few years back, the Scouts had an event they called Scout Expo. And we would have it there on the base. And we took a ham radio station out there and I asked them, I said, can we use uhf? And they flat out said, absolutely not. It was kind of funny. I did that just to see what the reaction would be because I knew
Speaker C: they probably wouldn't let us do it.
Speaker A: I've got another comment about that. Up there, those radar transmitters put out about 20 kilowatts each. They have a bunch of them. They can actually sum those up and get like a megawatt of power out. So can you imagine that that radiates out from there? And they have signs do not go before the antenna because you can be rf. So they put out that strong of a pulse. So it's pretty interesting going in there, watching it looks like windshield wiper when it's transmitting. So anyway, so give you a little more information about that. But yeah, they've restricted that on the Mount OSO up here, which we have the Stanislaus Amateur Radio Club repeater. They can only run their uhf repeater at 5 watts. But really they'll run that YAESU repeater up there with the fusion. Actually, 5 watts is plenty of power for the elevation of down here in Stanislaus County. So we can hear it all over on the Fusion. So anyways, we'll give you an idea. But yeah, they restricted RF on that band, you know, within their range there, you know, so that you don't interfere with their radar. K6PTO.
Speaker B: I can definitely imagine that. Definitely imagine that. All right, Bill, I'm going to let you go. You have a wonderful weekend and love chatting with you. Thanks for chopping in and saying hi. Kind of nice to chat on familiar territory. K6PKO. AI6JB73,
Speaker A: K6PKL73s.
Speaker B: All right, folks, let's do a quick. Let's do a round of quick in and outs, in and out for the coffee break. Net,
Speaker C: Kilo, bravo seven, delta, foxtrot, papa, kb7 dfp. Kennen, twin falls,
Speaker E: kilo, november 6th whiskey, quebec, uniform, kn6wq.
Speaker A: Good morning, oreo.
Speaker B: All right, let's take stock and see who we have. Good morning, frank. Long time no here. Kn6gaa. Good morning, dan. Km6wk. Good morning, ken. Kb7dfb. And good morning to kilo golf. 6-11-l lima, whiskey. You just came up on supermon, so I got you in there. There was a big kerfuffle at the beginning. Did I miss anybody. All right, let's take it to kj6. I'm sorry. Kg6nlw. Good morning. What's the name there?
Speaker C: Holy crap. Batman.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm sorry, KT6NLW. You were unreadable. Plenty strength into the repeater, but I'm not sure exactly what it is. Maybe it sounds like you're almost off frequency or something, but a lot of garbling kook there. So my apologies. I got you in the log. If you want to make. Why don't you go ahead and see if you can maybe make a quick adjustment and give it one more try? All right, no worries. We got you in the log. I also see you dropped off at Supermon, so clearly something's going on there. Hope you get a chance to work that out. We'll hear from you later. Good morning, Ken. KB7 DFP.
Speaker E: How are you doing this morning?
Speaker B: I missed you last week, I think. Yeah, I know.
Speaker C: I was so busy last weekend, I totally didn't make it. But here I am this time and I'm off work, going home. I'm going to have some stew for
Speaker A: lunch and that's about it.
Speaker C: Just kick back.
Speaker B: All right? Yeah, sounds like a great day. So I'm going to real quick take a break here, KG6NLW. One of my many producers texted me and said it sounds like you're overdriving your audio, so if you can maybe. Might turn that down just a teeny bit. Hey, Ken, are you a Olympic or a Super bowl watcher?
Speaker C: I guess it must be Olympic.
Speaker B: I don't know.
Speaker C: I'm not much of. I'm not really into football, so I don't get excited about that, but I know other people do. So I just kind of go along with whatever team that they like and I say, all right.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm not much of a football watcher either, but I completely forgot about the fact that the Olympics were starting.
Speaker E: So.
Speaker B: Although we had a birthday party here with one of the grandkids last night, so I didn't have a chance to see the opening ceremonies. I usually like watching the opening ceremonies. I think those are great. I'll have to probably find that on YouTube or something.
Speaker C: I'm not a big sports fanatic, but there are some interesting things on the Olympics that you know that are fun to watch. So, you know, you just. They have so many different categories of things, but really I'm not watching a lot of sports.
Speaker B: Well, what are you going to do with your time if you're not going to be watching sports? Well, if it continues to be kind of nice like it is now, you
Speaker C: know, it's 50 and for us that's pretty good. I'm going to jump on the bike and go for a ride. Probably go a few places and just turn on a road that I get to and then whatever I feel like
Speaker B: turning on the nest or. Well, as long as the weather's nice. That sounds great. We're expecting some weather next week. Week. I would imagine you're probably going to see it maybe later next week, but enjoy it while you can. Have a great day, Ken. We'll catch you next time on the coffee breaknet. KB7DFP AI6JB73
Speaker C: yeah, have a great day and a great week. We'll talk to you next time.
Speaker E: KB70FP mobile.
Speaker B: And good morning, Dan. KN6WQU sounds like the clear warm weather for making money is going to go away here soon.
Speaker E: Good morning Orient and Annette. This is KN6W. Kids, I'm over on a new setup. Just going to make sure that you can hear me. Okay, Let me let it drop and then come back, please.
Speaker B: Well, that initial one is fine. Let's hear what you got.
Speaker E: Yeah, I'm Transmitting on the RTEL 950 Pro. This thing is pretty neat. It's got a lot of features in it. I hear there's different firmware for it. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but this might just be my everyday carry. I love it so much with the
Speaker B: fact that it can do true aprs
Speaker E: and all that other stuff. So it's really neat. Anyway, out here over his neighbor's house working on a Dodge Ram 1500 mega cab with a good old Hemi 5.7 liter engine with typical aluminum heads.
Speaker B: And
Speaker E: I can't remember the other type of metal that's in there on the valve seats.
Speaker C: Basically it just drops the valve seat
Speaker E: inside the head and bends them all up and. Yeah, I mean these hemis are. They're great power when they work, but when they don't, man, they are just a pain in the butt.
Speaker B: Anyway, that's all I got.
Speaker E: I'm gonna get this stuff done today and think I have four jobs today, so hopefully we can get them all done. This is KN6WQ.
Speaker B: Yeah, it sounds like you got a busy day. I think you told me once you can get. Sometimes you can get six in depending on what it is. So it sounds like you got a busy one there. All right, Dan, be safe out there and get her. Does kn6wqu ai6jb73.
Speaker E: 73 thanks for running net
Speaker B: Good morning, Frank KN6 GAA where have you been hiding these days?
Speaker D: Hey, how you doing? Arian K and 6J here.
Speaker A: Good morning.
Speaker D: Everybody on the net as well. Just been kind of doing stuff and taking a break from radio and kind of doing work and every now and then I kind of look up and I think, oh man, I just missed a coffee break net. So I've been trying to check in more regularly last couple of days and whatnot, but other than that everything is kind of going along, works picked up and just kind of doing the the weekend thing here.
Speaker B: Well, that's good. Sounds like everything's going well for you and keeping the looks like you're keeping ahead of life there.
Speaker D: We're trying, we're trying still trying to
Speaker A: figure out what where we're what are
Speaker D: we going to do for for housing here. We got new ownership and they're probably going to crank up the.
W e6a x n repeater.

Speaker A: Rent insanely. So it's going to be probably pretty cost prohibitive at that point. So we're still looking and considering other options. As far as work, I'm doing pretty much remote work, so I don't necessarily need to be here in the state of necessary. I'm thinking and thinking of just skipping town.
Speaker B: Yeah, there seems to be a little of that going on, so. Oh really? So you got new owners at the house there and you think they're going to bump the rent? Seems to me that that's kind of like shooting yourself in the foot.
Speaker A: I'm in an apartment actually. So the new. They sold the property to a new outfit that comes in, renovates the place and then basically either kicks everybody out and rebuild or just tries to get it up to whatever the surrounding area is. And that's what I'm thinking they're going to be doing. That's what a lot of the feeling is from a lot of the neighbors as well.
Speaker B: Interesting. You wouldn't by chance know the name of the new owners?
Speaker A: The company called Trinity. It's a big, big, big outfit. They got price all over the east coast and west coast. That's a nation thing.
Speaker B: Interesting. Yeah, I'm not familiar with that. I used to do multi user, multi, multi use, multi family projects and that was not one of the ones that we dealt with. I was just curious. That's why I was asking because I know a few of the players, not all of them obviously, but I know a few of the players. I was just curious who it was.
Speaker A: It used to be a family, a family owned place. I think three people owned the whole thing for many, many, many years. And I think they decided they wanted it out, they wanted to retire. And they've been basically trying to sell since 2019. And then the pandemic hit and then they had a buyer and they chickened out at the last minute. And we can kind of see why now that we got the new ownership. A lot of the stuff that they're doing needed to be done probably 10, 15 years ago in so many different cases. For example, the stairs out here, I'm downstairs, but the stairs case up, leading up. They just took the carpeting off because they want to replace it with rubber. And those stairs, man, I'm thinking to myself, I'm glad I didn't climb those stairs very often because, man, they're just, it's a misery. They need to be replaced. The entire stair casing, I mean, it looks like somebody could actually just put their shield through it.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm surprised that they allowed that to happen. Ever since that Oakland. Was it Oakland or Berkeley, where those foreign students were dancing on the balcony and the balcony fell off. It was like. I think it was just pre pandemic. Ever since then, every project we'd go in, you know, the owner would say, we don't want any wood out there. We want steel or concrete or something like that. You could tell that that industry was very sensitive to stairs and balconies. So I'm surprised it got that far part of it.
Speaker A: That's why partially. That's why, actually, because they've been trying to sell for many, many years. And I think they were just kind of just cobbling it together with bit and polish and then hoping for the best. And they wanted to get shot out of the whole thing. The electronics in here, man, I came back, I think I told Annette I came back from a trip and I couldn't get my garbage disposal to run or the vacuum cleaner to run. Well, turns out the voltage was actually low and they had to come over and replace the entire panel, the breaker panel. And they had to go in there and redo hookups and whatnot. And so I'm actually one of the first people that actually is up to code with the electricity, at least on the panel side. Because all the other stuff has probably not been messed with since 1980, if not. Or even before that.
Speaker B: Yeah. Wow. Fortunately for electrical, not a whole lot has changed, you know, nothing catastrophic. Anyway. So anyway, well, sounds like several things that happened there at the Ham Shack. So. Well, keep us prized and look forward to hearing more about the story there. And definitely do say hi before you if you decide to take leave the state on us. Frank, it's been a pleasure chatting with you. Great catching up with you. KN6GAA AI6JB.
Speaker A: Absolutely, absolutely. And like I said, we're still kind of in the. And the planning stage here. We haven't done anything concrete yet. We're going to see what they're going to do. This area is very, very accessible, very friendly as far as transportation wise for somebody who doesn't drive. And man, anytime I talk to you, Orion, I feel horrible because I haven't finished my general class. I been meaning to do that and then life just kind of keeps getting in the way. And for whatever reason, anytime I talk to you, I think about that. I heard a bunch of the. The new crew on Monday that got their licenses and congratulations to all of them. And don't worry, I'm right behind you all. This is the year. I'm gonna get it done. Ariane, you take care. Have a great weekend. And super bowl tomorrow. Probably gonna do just for the excuse of having a pizza and beer. KN6GA, 12 ounce curls.
Speaker B: Yeah. Gotta keep working those clothes. 12 ounce curl for sure. And don't feel bad. I feel the same way about my CW every time I talk to somebody who's learning it and doing better than me, like, gosh darn it. So anyway, don't feel bad about it. Life does happen and eventually we'll get there. KN6GA8, AI6JB73. All right, folks, we have hit the 9:50 hour, so I'm going to be taking log only. So this will be the final call for check ins. Got you in the log as well. All right folks, that wraps this edition of the Coffee Break Net. Thank you so much for joining me. Don't worry, we will have Jeff KW6U tomorrow here starting at 7:30 in the morning going all the way to 10 o' clock and we look forward to maybe hearing you as well. Well, so this is Orion AI6JB for the coffee break net in Auburn, California where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fishing jumping 73 everybody. Hey Orion, this is KN6YCG. Just a quick post. Coffee Break Net fishing update. I'm getting plenty of bites but I'm not a very good fisherman person. Calling you in from the beautiful Sarasota Bay Marina, this is Patrick out of Sarasota seven three. So Patrick, what are you fishing for or what are you trying. What do you think you're going to try and catch? I'm being told probably sheep head just because the water's a little bit cold. I'm using live bait shrimp and I'm pretty much getting bitched every cast but I'm just not good at this. I used to bass fish back in Granite Bay, but I don't know What I'm doing wrong. But I'll tell you what I'm doing right. I'm enjoying myself and I'm gonna go do a 12 ounce curl workout in just a little bit. Since it is actually one o' clock already. Well, in my book you're already one hour late on that 12 ounce curl. Hey, sheepshead. If it's anything like what we fished for off the coast of California, my favorite thing to do with the sheepshead is boil it and then sprinkle it with boil it in salt water and then it almost tastes exactly like crab. Ugly looking fish, man. It's with a teeth and orange and everything. So that's my recollection of fishing sheephead. After I got certified to scuba dive, we would go spear fishing and we would see just tons of sheephead and just all my dive buddies or instructors are like, don't even waste your time. They're not very good fish. And they say the same about mackerel or they said the same about mackerel. But I feel like people are into catching both fish now. My dad used to take us deep sea fishing off of Oxnard and that's all we went after was the mackerel. We went mackerel. The other one we would catch were these sand dabbers or they call them sand dabbers or sand bobbers. They were this flat fish, had its feet, had its eyes on the top only on one side of its head. The sheep's head was another one we went after. And I'm trying to think there was another one that we went after as well. But I remember my dad getting a lot of fish for that. Yeah, I was thinking about going out on a boat trip this week, but I've actually enjoyed myself riding my beach cruiser down here and just kind of enjoying the company down here in the marina. Sadly, the fishing pier and a couple of the really nice fishing spots are still closed down from the hurricanes last year. And I rode my bike over by them yesterday and yeah, man, tons of the concrete walls and sidewalks are all washed up and mangled. So. But either way, I'm enjoying myself. I'll try to check in tomorrow, let you know how it goes. Have a great day. Seven three, this is KN6YCG. Hey, enjoy your time out on the water there and fish it. KN6YCG AI6JV73
Speaker A: I remember the first sheepshead fish I ever caught. I was removing the hook and I thought the damn fish had swallowed somebody's dentures.ai6us
Speaker B: yeah, you pull them up and they're a sight to be seen. You kind of look at it and kind of take a brief gasp and then you go for it. But I remember we caught a lot of sheepshead and one of the things we used to do is, like I said, just boil it in salt water and put a little lemon on top and it tastes exactly like crab.
Speaker A: I thought you were going to use my kale recipe. Put it in with a lot of onions and some bacon and throw away the sheep's head.
Speaker B: That's a good idea, Brian. Since I'm not a footballer or really a sports guy at all, I'll probably try to fish tomorrow and just grill at home and stay out of the madness of Main Street. Sarasota. Yes indeed.
Speaker A: No, I spent a lot of time out on the bay there in the area and yeah, out on the water is definitely better than being inland. All right, I'm out of here.
Speaker B: 8 I 6 US. And Brian, you have a good morning as well from Kilo Golf6 November Mima whiskey good morning. Ai6jb is clear as well.
Speaker A: Thanks for running the net. Orion and you have a great weekend. It sounds like you're still trying to shake that that cold at what, two weeks? That's about how long it held on to me as well. Hope you feel better.
Speaker B: Thanks Brian. I have a friend, friend of a friend. Well, actually he was a former scouter with me. It took him 10 weeks to get over this to get over this cough. So I hope it doesn't go that long. So thanks. Appreciate that. AI68McClair
Speaker A: hey, just a quick did you receive all the materials you needed for that submission? Kind of felt bad that you're putting this mission together after being the setup and teardown team.
Speaker B: Hey, don't feel bad. Not at all. Not at all. Be honest with you. I haven't touched it so I need to still make take stock. I got your stuff that I saw that come through on the email. I'll have to see if John sent over the log. I can't. I don't recall seeing his any email from him for the log, but he probably did. So I'll get into it this weekend and get it submitted. We have until I think March or something like that, but I definitely want to do it much quicker than that.
Speaker A: Yeah, so it'd be a bulletin as well from from John and then from Devin and Trevor, the ISS contact. So have a great day and I was kind of afraid you lost your phone.ai6us
Speaker B: it's been busy. I went from one project to three projects this week. So we have a deadline the 18th to get a fee proposal and a proposal put together. So it's been pretty. And each proposal or each RFP has over 250 pages. So I spent a lot of time reading this week. Ai6w. Go ahead. Ai6w.

Speaker A: Hey, Orion, this is John. So, yeah, I definitely owe you a file. And work has just been crazy this week, so I haven't gotten to it. I'll send you that file and the Beacon today.
Speaker B: Hey, perfect, John. No rush. I probably won't work on until tomorrow, but thank you for reminding me. And both of you, thank you for reminding me. AI6JB. Clear?
Speaker A: Yep. Heard you guys talking, so I figured I'd go ahead and just chime in. All right, Thanks a lot.ai6w
Speaker C: hey, John, did you have a final count on your CW contacts?
Speaker A: Oh, you would ask me that while I'm driving? I don't. I want to say it was maybe north
Speaker C: of 800,
Speaker A: but don't quote me on that. I don't quite remember.
Speaker C: Yeah, I remember. You were right around 800. So that's what I had mentioned a couple times when we were talking about it. All righty. Hey, drive safely, and you guys have a great rest of the weekend. AI6US. I'll be clear.
Speaker A: Thanks, Jay. You guys have a great weekend as well. AI6W.
