Amateur Radio News line report number 2517 with the release date of Friday, January 23, 2026 to follow in five 4, 3, 2, 1. The following is a QST A Severe Solar Radiation Storm Disrupts HF Communications US Lawmakers Propose restoring funds to Voice of America and in New Zealand, Q codes are on the move. All this and more as Amateur Radio Newsline Report number 2517 comes your way right now from around the world. This is Newsline, Amateur Radio's first independent on the air News and Bulletin Service. Now reporting from Wadsworth, Ohio, here's Stefan Kenford, nawb. Our top story this week is the most severe solar radiation storm in more than 20 years. It began on Monday, January 19th and lasted through much of the week. The National Weather Service declared the storm to be at an S4 level, a degree of severity not seen since October of 2023. S4 is the second highest level of this type of storm. The storm severity, which exceeded that of the one in October of 2023 disrupted the HF ban, challenging ham radio operators while creating spectacular auroral displays. A bipartisan agreement among the US Lawmakers could restore the government's financial support of Voice of America, Radio Free Europe and other federally funded news services. Kent Peterson, KC0DGY has that story. U.S. lawmakers in Washington, D.C. have reached a deal that would fund the Voice of America giving its parent organization, the U.S. agency for Global Media, an estimated $653 million. That figure is considerably lower than the annual $860 million provided previously to the agency as described on the Radio World website. The funds would also pay for restoration of operations for Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty and Radio Free Asia. A minimum of $30 million is earmarked for medium and shortwave programming by the Office of Cuba Broadcasting to deal as part of a larger spending bill, National Security, Department of State and Related Programs Appropriations Act. It has the support of both parties in Congress and its funding plan goes against the White House's executive order from last year which shut the international news services. Even if the measure receives final approval from the House and Senate, it will still require the President's signature. This is Ken Peterson, KCzero CGY. The NASA's Artemis 2 mission began its long awaited journey to the moon and back on Saturday 17 January with the Rockets rollout onto the launch pad at the Kennedy Space center in Florida. Three of the four astronauts who will be aboard have their amateur radio licenses. Travis L3Ils tells us what's up next. W6RHC repeater check two.

Speaker A: Sam. Sounds pretty good over here in Centennial. NR17. Good evening.
Speaker B: I'm not sure which talk group I think.
Speaker A: Oh yeah, you're a little garbled there. You coming in on maybe BMR or something?
Speaker B: Yeah, I switched this one should be better. Stage 7 access. Good evening.
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, you're better than just over here working the picture tonight. Coming in all star back into making chili tomorrow. Homemade chili for the big game tomorrow afternoon. Have some friends over at the church. What are you doing for the big game? You gonna watch it or no or. Yeah,
Speaker B: I think we're. I think that's the plan. Yeah. Because we've got some food to go along with it that'll be the main attraction. But that's the same thing. Catholic church settle in and see it.
Speaker A: Yeah, I just. The food's really the best part. So we're having decided to do some project American Spare out here. Things like steaks and whatever. We're just having a couple of friends over. A couple single friends and churches over here. My wife and I and my son and a couple dogs. Steak. My friend said they'll pick up some cans of chili.
Speaker B: Oh, that sounds good. Yeah, chewy dogs are good. Especially if you got your homemade secret recipe. See going with it.
Speaker A: Well, I don't know if it's super recipe. I got a couple of. Couple of recipes I use. I have one that I really like that bean. My friend at work, you know, a couple years ago to make fun of man, real chili pestico, real chili but do not have beans. It was. It was with you to eat it with beans. Anyway, I found this recipe, reasonably good recipe that I like online. So it has no beans, garlic stuff. It doesn't use cayenne pepper, you know, especially. So what I have with beans I have is like four different kinds of pepper and chili seeds. This has smoked paprika, different things. But it doesn't have cayenne pepper, chili powder, Onion powder and salt, black pepper, diced tomatoes. This one's got beef sauces. So it's with a crock pot slow cooker. So you know, I made it one before. It's pretty good.
Speaker B: Ah, sounds good. Thanks for my mouth water. So I guess maybe the beans are kind of a good filler. I guess we'd have. I guess you have to use more meat if you don't use the beans, right?
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm thinking so. Because this has double the. Double the meat that the other, the other recipe that you can use cut up pieces of piece of brown like steak and everything and put in there. And some people do that little pieces of steak. Justify it up on your side of me. Those kinds of things. You can do that. But I just use like green ground beef. That works pretty good. Like 97, you know, or you use 90 10. I wouldn't even do much. I would. I don't know. I think like when you make a chili, you make it like patties. I mean the hamburger, eggs. There's no, there's nothing better.
Speaker B: 80, 20
Speaker A: flapped out on a flat top, you know, glowing hot mash burgers. But that I guess maybe just Mashburg ladles with a big thing of mud on chili on it. Now maybe that's. Maybe that's a Super bowl burger. NR 17. The SOL.
Speaker B: And the food every game. Thanks. Thanks for coming back to the call here. This is KG7S73.
Speaker A: All right, take care. 73.

Speaker A: Oh, good morning and welcome to the Coffee Breaknet. The Coffee Breaknet is on the W6ek repeater located in Auburn, California. Every morning 7:32 around 10:00am is a beautiful morning. What a great day to be alive. And it happens to be the one day of the year work. Everyone, it seems in the country gets together and hoots and hollers. It is Super Bowl Sunday today. And as it is Super Bowl Sunday, you might, you might hear a few trivia questions we'll go through today. You know, it's kind of fun. It'll be all about super bowl and whatever else you want to talk about. We can, we can talk about things, you know, if you've got some great dish you want to have on Super Bowl Sunday. Well, let's hear about it as well. This is kw6u for the coffee Breaknet. We'll start out with a quick round of in and outs and then get on with the day. KW6U taking check INS2DYI,
Speaker B: Delta Foxtrot, Papa, KB7DFP, Kinintoin Falls, Pedestrian Mobile, N60KV,
Speaker C: Wb1g.
Speaker A: All right, I've got four in and outs here this morning. I've got right now. Good morning, smitty. Wp1g. Good morning, carl. N6tkv. Good morning, ken. Kb7dfp, pedestrian mobile and patrick into dyi. Did I miss anyone in that group? All right, you all are waking up the repeater. Good morning Patrick into dyi. Might as well start out. Do you want to hear a trivia question or are you thinking about something good to eat?
Speaker D: Hey, good morning, Jeff. And sure, why not?
Speaker A: We'll go with a trivia question. All right, well, let's just start out. I've got. These are mostly going to be easy questions for some of you, but let's start out. Which super bowl halftime show preceded a stadium blackout? Well, I know it wasn't 2004.
Speaker D: That was a different kind of blackout.
Speaker A: No idea.
Speaker C: I know, I know.
Speaker A: Alright, well, we'll keep asking that question until somebody gets the answer. You'll have to listen in if you want to know. You can think about it. And are you doing anything special for super bowl today? I am. Well, not much going on here, but
Speaker C: I have to say I am rooting
Speaker D: for Canada in the Super Bowl.
Speaker A: I hope Canada wins big. I'll bet they don't. I'll bet that, yeah, $100 they don't win. I'm gonna take that bet. Ah, well, anyway, not much going on here. I'm gonna let you go on with
Speaker D: the rest of the net just wanted to get in here quickly.
Speaker A: I got a phone call, so I'm gonna take that.
Speaker D: Jeff, everyone, have a great day. For those who do. Super bowl. Super Very bowley.
Speaker A: And that's all I got. N2DYI. All right, Patrick, have a great day. Thanks for checking in this morning. Good N2D Yi KW 6073. And good morning, Ken. KB7DFP Pedestrian Mobile. Did you hear that question? Would you like a Super bowl trivia question or are you going to tell me what you want to eat?
Speaker B: That's a good one, Will. I don't. I'm not interested in the super bowl or football, but I love food. Personally, I like to eat just about anything.
Speaker A: Are you going to make anything special today? I know people have their favorite things.
Speaker B: You know, I usually do have something special on the weekends. It's just that I haven't decided yet. Last weekend I had some nice tacos. You know, they were just great. I don't know. I have not decided yet. I'm just pedestrian along here and seeing what comes up next.
Speaker A: All right, well, we'll go ahead and. You go ahead and enjoy your pedestrian mobile walk this morning. Did you want to hear a trivia question at all?
Speaker B: Yeah, I do. I will be surprised if I can answer it, but go for it.
Speaker A: It's the same question that Patrick did not answer. Which super bowl halftime show proceeded a stadium blackout?
Speaker B: I'm so sorry. I draw a blank.
Speaker A: This is going to throw a few people off, so not a big deal. We'll just move on down the line. Enjoy your walk this morning, Ken. Pedestrian mobile. I bet the weather is fabulous.
Speaker B: All right, thank you. You have a great day. KB7DSP Pedestrian Mobile.
Speaker A: All right, Ken, thanks for checking in. KB7DFP KW6U73. Good morning, Carl in 6CKB. Do you have an answer for this question? Which super bowl halftime show preceded a stadium blackout?
Speaker E: Good morning, Jeff and everyone else out there.
Speaker D: No, I don't have a good answer for you.
Speaker E: I'm interested to watch the ads this year, see what's going on with the advertisers. In other words, we're just going to watch it and hope for a good game.
Speaker A: Yeah, watching the advertising is kind of fun. They can get a little creative and it's always interesting to see what they do this year.
Speaker E: Yeah, we got some new advertisers. I think so we'll have to see what's going on anyway. No guess for the question. I don't even know if I watched that One.
Speaker A: All right, Carl, we'll have fun today. Thank you for checking in and we'll. We'll catch you next time. N60kvkw60u73. Good morning, Smitty. WB1G. What are you doing today besides watching the Super Bowl? Is that all you're doing today?
Speaker C: Well, I'll tell you what. First and foremost, I love the trivia question. And I actually knew the answer before. I'm just going to warn you, I asked this question on Friday night. Trivia. But I did know the answer before that. And man, that halftime show from Beyonce was so hot that it caused like a 10,000 volt transformer there at the Superdome in New Orleans to trip. Which caused. I don't remember the outage, but it was like 30 minutes or something like that. Did I get it?
Speaker A: You sure did. Yep. Which super bowl halftime show preceded a stadium blackout? Yeah, the Beyonce show in 2013. I don't know what caused it. Cause and effect. But maybe Beyonce just blew the stadium out. Yeah.
Speaker C: Gotta be honest and say, I'm not a fan of the queen bee air quotes. Queen bee? I. Yeah, I mean, she's talented, but I. The whole queen bee thing, when you give yourself that title or when you lean into that title, I don't know. Okay, well, moving on.
Speaker A: As far as the super bowl goes,
Speaker C: you know, I'm gonna catch a little bit of it. When you have no horse in the race, you're to watch. The super bowl is more of a social event.
Speaker A: Right.
Speaker C: And I don't really have anything planned today to kicking around the house. Got a few, you know, different chores to do, but no real solid plans. I will say this much though. I was working in Boston this past week in Bastin and I had beer and played darts with a lot of New Englanders. And I am so dug on, tired of hearing about the Pats. So I'm going to root for anybody but the Pats. And to be perfectly honest, even before I went to Boston this week, I still would root for anybody but the Patriots. So go Hawks. WB1G.
Speaker A: Makes sense to me. You're just. Yeah, you're right in the middle of it all. I imagine if you would feel the same way if you went to Seattle.
Speaker C: Oh, absolutely. You know, New England has a huge sweet spot in my heart. I've been there a lot for work, having worked for a Boston based company for the last almost 15 years now. So real familiar that city. It actually happens to be one of my favorite cities to visit. But I hate the football team there. You go, I'll go on. I'll go on point with that. And even before my. Well, maybe it's because of my relationship with Boston that I have a love
Speaker A: hate relationship and I've been to Gillette
Speaker C: and I've seen a bunch of Patriots games, had really good seats.
Speaker A: In fact they have a great fandom.
Speaker C: They really do. So my hatreds towards the Patriots is really just because they win a lot.
Speaker A: Okay, there, I owned it.
Speaker C: It's the coffee break confessional on Sunday morning.
Speaker B: Amen.
Speaker A: Understood. Hey, you know, you always have your teams that you love and teams that you hate and you have seems to be solid reasons to not like Boston. So have a great day. Smitty. Yeah, this is good that quick in and out this morning, but it's good to hear you check in on Sunday and get some rest and Enjoy your day. WP1G KW6073,
Speaker C: the King of the quick in and out.
Speaker A: Take care, Jeff.
Speaker C: Have a great day. KW6UW B1G73
Speaker A: oh, good morning all. This is KW6 use taking some check ins. You know, we're going to start out with another mystery question, so please let me know if you are in and out. But we'll go with more trivia here. And just as you come in, this is kw6u taking check in. Good morning, Jeff Fox Clean vector. Good Morning Case, FQV East Coast Ohio,
Speaker D: Kilo, November 6 Mike, Kilo, Delta, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Quebec.
Speaker A: Rick in beautiful downtown North Island. Good morning, Jeff. And I'll be an in n out, K4lgi, sam and denver, in and out. All right, standby guys. We have doubles on almost every check in. I think every check in. Tom, I managed to pull you out of the mud there. KB6SSN, Rick, Katie 6 CDQ. I managed to get you. And K4 Lima, Golf, Idaho, I've got you now. I've missed one or two or three others. So let's come again nice and slow here and spread it out and we'll see who we've got. Kc8 fox, queen, victor, ohio, fqv,
Speaker D: Kilo
Speaker B: november 6th mike, julia bravo thomas, spring hill, tennessee.
Speaker A: All right, let me see. I've got. Yeah, I got can 6 MJB. Good morning. And then KC8FQV. There was one more station in there that I've heard you come in, try to come in a couple times. Let's come again, please.
Speaker F: K3 victor, golf mike.
Speaker A: K3 Victor, Golf Mike. Good morning. All right, let's see. So I'll go ahead and just get through Our check ins this morning here and then we'll go from there. Good morning, Tom. KB6SSN I've got another trivia question for you, but you probably know the answer. This is going to be an easy one for those of you have been listening. Let's see who has won the most Super Bowls.
Speaker D: Oh boy, that's a, that's a good question. I, I don't know, to be honest with you. I'm going to guess the Patriots because Smitty was complaining about the, the, the Patriots winning too much. So let's, let's go with them, see if that works or not. Yeah, I did remember the 2013 power outage. It was the Niners and the Ravens and I'm not a football fan by any means, but the reason I remember that was that I had a friend from high school and she was sitting on my sofa watching the game and the power went out of the stadium in the early part of the third quarter and she hit the roof. Oh my God. She had a meltdown. Luckily they delayed the game and came back and everything was fine. But yeah, I did not remember for the life of me that it was Beyonce that was the performer there. Now that he mentioned it, I remember that. And the reason I remember it is because I'm not a fan of Beyonce, but I'm a huge, huge Shelly Rowland fan that she was on there too. Yeah, good thing Smitty got it because I'd have missed it entirely.
Speaker A: Well, it was the Patriots that have won the most super bowl, so I didn't expect to get it that easily. But you know what, I think everybody probably knows that the New England patriots have won 11 Super Bowls. That's quite a feat when you think about.
Speaker D: Really is. And I make a lot of fun of football. And if you enjoy it, then have a good time. I mean it's, we all make fun of things. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't enjoy what you enjoy.
Speaker E: So.
Speaker D: You know, there's a lot of people that make fun of ham radio operators and most of them are other ham radio operators.
Speaker A: That's because of all the other folks. Don't know much about ham radio operators except those CP beers out there. I bet they make a lot of fun of us.
Speaker D: Yeah, that pesky C beer up in Meadow Vista. I'll tell you, when PG&E gave him that, that moniker, I was almost fell out of the car laughing. Oh gosh. Yeah. In any case, moving on from there, let's see, Larry and I have been having an awful lot of fun out at the, out of his shack out there. And we got, got the big Henry up online and tested it all out into a dummy load. The tubes in it were soft, so it's got the original imac metal plate tubes in it from 1970 something. So I've got a brand new set of amperex graphite tubes we're going to throw in it tomorrow morning and fire that puppy up and let her gas out for a while and then we'll get her on the air and put it up on that Ultimax antenna and see if we can't heat up some wire.
Speaker A: Oh, there you go. We got that thing running and it's cranking out. So now it's just time to test it out. It sounds like a pretty successful adventure.
Speaker D: So far so good. The multimeter does not work on it. It's a very simple circuit. So it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out. But I have enough experience with the Henry amplifiers that I can tune it with just one meter. So that's, that's good enough. I, I know what it sounds like when the grid drive gets up. Grid current gets up to a certain point. So yeah, having had a very similar amplifier for 20 years, I am very familiar with this model. So was able to tune it up. And yeah, it's, it's putting out about 1500 watts into a dummy load right now with about 120, 25 watts drive somewhere in there. And we should be 2 kilowatts right there. So that's, you know, the tubes are just soft so it's no big deal. Those tubes are, were manufactured when I was a freshman in high school. So yeah, they're a little on the old side, but the new tubes will bring it right up to par and it'll be fine. And if you want to take a look at it, you know where to go. Confederate Sun1 we. I posted three videos that Larry and I took up there of uh, the amplifier just as we were doing the final assembly and checkout. And then a picture of it up and running or a video of it up and running. And then of course the third video was because I forgot to show the tubes. And the best part about tube amplifiers is that they glow in the dark. So I made a third video where we highlighted the tubes and the glow and all that kind of fun stuff. So if you like low quality, low budget, just absolute crap videos that show wonderful radios, go check out our YouTube site. You might enjoy it. Who knows? KB6SSN have a great morning Tom. Jeff. I called you Tom. Sorry, Jeff.
Speaker A: Ah, no big deal. Yeah, it's pretty cool that getting that Henry amp going. It's fun to watch the videos, so I would recommend it. But the more importantly the tube amplifier. There's something very cool about those. I can't quite put my finger on it just. And I wouldn't put my finger on it because they're hot. Have a great day, Tom, and enjoy your. Enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday, such as it is. KB6SSN KW6Q73
Speaker D: well, I have an entire day of Olympic coverage to watch, so that will entertain me and everybody else. Enjoy your Super Bowl. I hope you have a really great time. KB6SSM73 73 Tom Good morning, Jimmy.
Speaker A: K3VGM. How are you this morning? And do you want a trivia question?
Speaker F: Sure, I'll sure, I'll take a stab at one. I didn't know the ones that you grew up with so far, except for the last one. I did know that one. So you'll have to pick a different one for me as I know that one too. About the Patriots and everybody.

Speaker A: Everybody have a good day and enjoy the Super Bowl. It's been going to watch. I am, but I'm also watching the Olympics and doing every year I played the multitasking person K for your gym. Thank you, Jeff for the trivia question.
Speaker B: All right, let's go for it here then, Jimmy. Let's see. Jerry McBride is the head referee. Who has officiated the most Super Bowls. How many did he do?
Speaker A: Okay, good. I don't know this one, so I'm just going to take a guess. Let's say four.
Speaker B: That was a heck of a good guess there, Jimmy. It he has officiated four Super Bowls and that's the most that any one head ref has done. So that's Super Bowl 17, 21, 26 and 29.
Speaker A: I recognize the name of him, but it was just an educated guess, I swear. K3vgm. Back to you, everybody. Have a good day.
Speaker B: All right, jimmy, excellent guest. Have a great day. Enjoy your super bowl Sunday. Ka3vgm kw6u73
Speaker C: good morning, rick.
Speaker B: Katie6cdq. I have a question for you. Are you ready?
Speaker C: Okay, go ahead. Fire away.
Speaker B: How much does the Lombardi Trophy weigh?
Speaker C: As much as Lombardi weighs. I'm not a football fan and I tell you what, I grew up 50 miles from Boston in a little hole called Providence, Rhode Island. I didn't like the Patriots either. Could have cared less. Now every Sunday that I like is when I hear those hot engines running around a track making left hand turns all the way around.
Speaker B: So NASCAR is your favorite sport all the way? Well, that and a few others that are similar. That sounds like fun. Are you going to do that today instead of watching the Super Bowl?
Speaker C: No, I will be doing that next Sunday. The day total 500 the one race per year I will not miss. And if I'm going to miss it, I'll make sure I put it on the DVR. There's no Sunday like a Daytona 500. KD6CDQ.
Speaker B: All right, so next Sunday is your favorite Sunday of the year. So that sounds like you're going to have fun.
Speaker D: Yeah.
Speaker B: Anything else for the net there, Rick?
Speaker A: No, not much.
Speaker C: The only thing I was going to say when you were asking questions about football players, but unless their name is Dale Earnhardt or Jeff Gordon or Jimmy Johnson, I don't know who you're talking about. But you guys enjoy your football. I played in high school. Damn near got killed and said this
Speaker E: is a stupid sport.
Speaker C: I'll go get myself killed driving a hot rod. KD6CDQ73S.
Speaker B: That's a heck of a trade. Have a great day. KD6CDQ, KW6U73. All right, sam. K4 lima, gulf, idaho, let's see. How much does the lombardi trophy weigh?
Speaker F: I don't know, Jeff. I was quick in and out, and I was trying to avoid the change of noise here, but I was at the game with the Ravens, the power went out.
Speaker E: Ravens, San Francisco.
Speaker F: And people kind of thought that was like the old high school games. The team gets behind, they turn the power of the lights off and the game's at night. And the teams come back and it breaks the momentum of the winning team. The 49ers came back a little bit after that, but they didn't win it.
Speaker E: The Baltimore won.
Speaker F: But anyway, and there was no music. The lights went out. They didn't know how we could come back on or anything.
Speaker E: So it was quiet and slow.
Speaker F: Security lights put it on so you
Speaker E: can see fairly good.
Speaker F: How to walk around and stuff. So I don't know the answer to 8, 14 pounds. I have no idea. Have a nice day, Jeff. K4LGI
Speaker B: well, I've never been to a Super Bowl. I haven't ever spent the time or money to go do that. I don't know how much it is, but good for you for being there. And of course you remember that. That's fantastic. I guess one would not forget. That's not the correct answer, but we'll move on down the line and maybe somebody will guess it. Have a great day, Sam. Thanks for checking in this morning and we'll catch you next time. K4 Lima, Golf, Idaho KW6U73.
Speaker C: Good morning, mark.
Speaker B: Kc8fqv. How much does the lombardi trophy weigh?
Speaker D: I think 11 pounds, maybe, or 380 grams. I don't know. One of them. Yeah, we got about zero here. A little right around, I think it's still cold out, but the sun's out, so that's good. Oh, wait, it's kind of a little bit now. Take a look at this thing. Haven't looked at it lately. I've been out in it. I haven't looked at it. Oh, I gotta take a look at it. That's so far out. I have to. I take a picture of it and I zoom into it. But, you know, I want to say, oh, wow. Oh, 24 degrees. Or well, or 23, wow, we're 25. Or I guess about, oh, we're making. We're making. Hey, where's the point? But yeah, I'd say £11 or 380 grams, something like that. And yeah, I remember when we did a game at our high school and the band director turned the lights out. Back in the day when they were tungsten bulbs, you could turn them out and they would come right back on. They did a halftime show one, we did two of them. One time he did it, the neighbor did baton toilet and they had the fire, you know, on the end of the. But then they did another one later and he didn't realize that when he turned the lights off that they don't come right back on because we replaced them from the tungsten bulbs, you know, the old light bulb into some newer ones that. Yeah, they take some time to warm up and come on. That was probably one of the things why they took a while. I remember in the school we had that in the gym and we lost electric. Hell it would. The lights were about 10 to 12, 12 to 15 minutes. They would start fighting. The lights would try to come on because they're just getting cool enough to start to come on. So then I did the practice, I just go down and we lost them. They were doing practice. I just turned the power off. In 15 minutes we could turn them on. They would just come right on. Yeah, one time they did that and I went down and the guys came over come maintenance and they said, oh, we can't really do anything. And they said, well, he did the best thing. He turned them off and got them to reset. So now LEDs. Now we got LEDs and they are probably a quick on. So let's send it back to net KSF qv.
Speaker B: Well, good to hear. It's warming up a little bit for you. Yeah, those. I guess it's the mercury lights, sodium lights that take a little bit to get back on. I remember that. Anyway, that. Yeah. So you did not get the question right. That was a good guess, but not close enough.
Speaker E: So have a.
Speaker B: Have a great Super Bowl Sunday. I don't know if you plan on watching it today or not, but enjoy your day. KCH FQV KW6U73
Speaker D: well, actually I will be washing it because we're going to be rooting for the Seattle Seahawks because they have a piece of hometown in it, the Barnar. He graduated from Aurora, worked at where I went to school and that where we live. So in 2020 he graduated from high school from Aurora. Oh yeah, Seattle. I'll send it back to Ned. KSF Cadet. The other thing I was going to mention.
Speaker B: Well, it looks like you got an anchor for Somebody to root for. So that sounds like fun. Enjoy the game, enjoy the day. KC8FQV KW6U73
Speaker D: Yep. 7 3.
Speaker C: Morning, Thomas.
Speaker B: K6MJB. How are you this morning? And you ready? Do you know the answer to that trivia question, how much does the Lombardi trophy weigh?
Speaker A: Good morning.
Speaker E: And same as on the street, $3. Oh, that's the wrong joke. I'm sorry. Christina's sitting next to me.
Speaker A: Good morning.
Speaker E: So copyright confessional. Going off of what somebody said, I heard this the other day and so I'm gonna say £7.
Speaker D: Is that correct?
Speaker B: It is absolutely correct. And no, it's fine if you know the answer and doesn't matter how you know the answer. It's a lot of fun just to talk about it anyway. Other people learn by listening. So the Lombardi trophy ways £7. Hey, it's nice to hear you check in this morning. What's going on with you and Christina lately?
Speaker E: Not too much. We, as you can hear, watch. I don't know if it sounds any different from us using repeater foam, but we finally got a node up and running. We tried two different ways of to use an all in one cable and both of those failed miserably after multiple, multiple attempts. So we gave up and got a sherry PI hat. And that seems to be working relatively well. We are still having a little bit of a learning curve with it. I know we have some tweaks that we can go in and probably make it a little bit better. But let me drop real quick and I want to paint a picture for you. All right? So this morning while we were waiting for the coffee breaknet, Christina decided to stay in the house where it's warm and cozy. And I bared the cold, which wasn't really that cold, but it's like 28 degrees or something like that out
Speaker C: because
Speaker E: the node has a magnet mount antenna on a cookie sheet up towards the attic so we can hear everything all the way around the neighborhood. So I'm out walking the dog when the coffee break starts. And I kept trying to check in. I tried to check in two times on the first round and three times on the second round and finally got in on the second round. And I knew part of the problem was my Yaesu FT3DR. Is it's lived a good life, it's lived a hard life, and it might be time to retire it pretty soon here. But the funny thing is I get back into the house and Christina's like, man, I love hearing Jeff on the radio, but I don't understand why he didn't hear any of your check ins. I heard every single one.
Speaker D: Perfect.
Speaker E: Let me let it drop again. So lovingly I looked back at her with a big smile on my face and told her that I loved her and asked her if she understood why she heard me coming in booming strong on her radio and that you guys might not hear me. And when she smiled and said no, I explained to her, simplex, that's an extra, ladies and gentlemen. Gentlemen,
Speaker B: Gotta get your dig in where you can because you don't have your extra yet.
Speaker E: That is affirmative. I'm a strong believer that licenses aren't everything. Degrees aren't everything. Sometimes it's what you know, not how much you paid for a certificate. Just kidding. She took the test. She's way smarter than I am in a lot of stuff. But it just, yeah, now she's mad at me for ditching her poking fun at her bachelor's degree also.
Speaker B: Well, there's common sense that sort of applies to a lot of it. Experience goes a long ways towards making comments that stand out a little bit more.
Speaker E: I think the best part was how I tried to describe it, was if you have a radio that's transmitting on simplex at 500 milliwatts and a radio that's transmitting on 5 watts, who wins? And she goes, I do. I built a node.
Speaker B: Well, you guys make a good team.
Speaker E: So between the two of you, you're
Speaker B: making it work and that's what counts the most.
Speaker E: Yeah, we have a lot of fun, you know, poking jabs at each other and everything. And we're having a lot of fun with the radio. We're enjoying trying to figure it out and you know, it's a new, new toy, new thing. I think it's funny that we have, since we've had this working, what, a grand total of four days now. We've found like three other node ish things online that are other projects that we might want to try also. Originally we had that like, why would we ever need another one if we got one working? But I think we might have caught the bug and want to start messing around with other stuff. Also,
Speaker B: as with all things, it becomes a rabbit hole when you start going down that path and things are changing all of the time. I mean, I actually have a node. I haven't wanted to go down that path yet, but I can see the convenience. It's definitely worth doing.
Speaker E: Yeah, that's what's interesting. Like we've, we never really completely saw the need, you know, Emphasis on need for one. Because in the grand scheme of things, what do you actually need? But it's definitely convenient. I do like the fact that I'm sitting here talking on a HT and that's how it's going through there. So I still feel connected to the radio when I was using repeaterphone. Super convenient, super awesome. But it didn't. I mean, not to knock anybody who uses it that way, but it didn't quite feel like radio. Something about a push to talk on a screen. It just didn't feel like radio. But it worked. And so that's why I don't necessarily think people need a node. But it's very convenient.
Speaker B: Yeah, I think I like pressing the mic when I'm talking on the radio. I don't really like pushing that virtual button on repeaterphone and then waiting for the screen to flip over. The timing seems to be just not that quick.
Speaker D: It's.
Speaker B: It's a little awkward for me to use repeaterphone, but, yeah, having an HT and walking around the house, doing whatever, keeping connected to the net, that makes it kind of nice.
Speaker E: Yes, it's nice. The other thing is we've been gone for almost a year now, which is just crazy to think of. And the last four days, we've had a radio on in the house every day that we've been home. And we've just forgotten how much we miss, you know, just hearing the constant traffic. We're trying really hard for our local club to kind of get more traffic to the repeater, but, you know, stuff like that builds over time. W60k didn't have almost constant use of the repeater. You know, the first year it came out, it took a while. And even then there's the laughable quiet hours where nobody's quite using it, but there's always somebody listening for the most part. So we'll get there. And you guys are a good distraction while we're waiting for it. But, yeah, other than that, going back to the big game, we have. We're going to a party tonight. Friends of a friend hung out a couple of times, but. But they are super into sports, so Christina and I are going to basically cause mayhem if we can. Whatever team everybody else is rooting for, I'm going to root for the other one. And when you don't care, but you like the social aspect of it, it's really fun to be the devil's advocate and just cause mischief.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, that sounds good. I think causing mischief is always a little fun when you're.

Amateur Radio News line report number 2517 with the release date of Friday, January 23, 2026 to follow in five 4, 3, 2, 1. The following is a QST A Severe Solar Radiation Storm Disrupts HF Communication US Lawmakers Propose Restoring funds to Voice of America and in New Zealand, Q codes are on the move. All this and more as Amateur Radio Newsline Report number 2517 comes your way right now from around the world. This is Newsline, Amateur Radio's first independent on the air News and Bulletin Service. Now reporting from Wadsworth, Ohio, here's Stefan Kinford in awp. The storm severity, which exceeded that of the one in October of 2023, disrupted the HF ban, challenging ham radio operators while creating spectacular auroral displays. A minimum of $30 million is earmarked for medium and shortwave programming by the Office of Cuba Broadcasting. The deal is part of a larger spending bill, the National Security Department of State and Related Programs Appropriations Act. It has the support of both parties in Congress and its funding plan goes against the White House's executive order from last year which shut the international news services. Even if the measure receives final approval from the House and Senate, it will still require the President's signature. This is Ken Peterson, KC0BGY. Speaker A: When you're playing the opposite of everyone's fan favorite. I bet there's enough arguments amongst themselves, though, because Tennessee doesn't have a dog in the fight, so they have their opinions. But that said, what's more important is the food. What are you all bringing to the party?
Speaker B: Well, I don't know if you're prepared. For you guys, it's still really early in the morning and not quite ready for this amazingness, but we have a recipe that we've been using, and we make it almost every super bowl, whether we watch the super bowl or not. But a slow cooked, shredded chicken, buffalo ranch dip. And the ingredients are literally cheese, cheese, cheese and cheese, buffalo sauce, ranch and seasoned shredded chicken.
Speaker A: That sounds amazing. Lots of cheese, lots of buffalo, and lots of shredded chicken. What a combination. I imagine the chips or whatever else you're putting it on are amazing.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's the only downfall to this dish. I have yet to find a chip that's strong enough to actually use it as a dip. We tend to just end up getting the.
Speaker A: Getting a pair of tongs or a
Speaker B: fork, and you just take your chip and then add the dip to it. So the. I don't even know if you could call it a dip anymore, but that's what the recipe calls it. This year, we're trying. We bought those Tostitos scoops, and the goal is leave the scoop on the plate, use a fork to add the chicken dip to the scoop, and eat it. But it is literally crack cocaine. It is delicious, and it's like wine. When you're cooking with wine, there's always these recipes that say recipes for leftover wine and leftover wine. Like, I don't think we've ever had leftover wine or this chicken dip. It just disappears.
Speaker A: No, it doesn't disappear. It just transfers from the recipe to your waste, because that stuff's not going anywhere anytime soon.
Speaker B: Well, definitely not with that much cheese in it. It's sticking put for a while.
Speaker A: Anyways, I will say 73 and let
Speaker B: you move on down the list. Awesome hearing from you guys, and thanks for being there. This is KM6 MJP.
Speaker A: Real quick, I'm reminded of. I don't want to say it out loud, but you'll recognize the dude, get in my belly. That just sounds amazing. Have a great day. Thomas and Christina, if you're listening, I'm sure you are. Kn6mjb.kw6u73. 73.
Speaker B: Oh, and I forgot one thing. Who we're rooting for is actually Cadillac. The Cadillac F1 team is revealing what their car looks like during the Super Bowl. So the super bowl is the long commercial, the three hour commercial for the Cadillac reveal.
Speaker A: This is KM6, I'm Jimmy something to look forward to. I want to see the same thing. That sounds good. Hey great time. Thanks for checking in. We'll catch you next time. This is kw6u. Alright, good morning all. Coffee breaknet. It is Super Bowl Sunday and of course that's what we're talking about. Got some trivia questions and or what are you having at your super bowl party if anything at all. We'll take some check ins here. Please let me know if you are. And in and out.
Speaker C: Okay, there is kb1, p zs, kilo, bravo 1, papa, zulu, sierra. Name is bob and I'm in connecticut. I am not in nl,
Speaker D: Kilo, oscar 6, kilo, mike, romeo, robert, roseville.
Speaker B: Over.
Speaker C: Delta 3 alpha, juliet, november 83 ajn,
Speaker E: Kilo, November 6th, Yankee, Charlie, Golf.
Speaker A: All right, let me run through my list here to make sure I've got it. All right, we got you patrick, kn6ycg. Got you anna, kd3ajn, robert, k06, kmr, kb1pzs. Bob and I think there was another double in there. Come again please. There was one person right up front that started and I just got stopped on here.
Speaker F: Kilo Bravo 6 Lima, Uniform Victor, Brett, quick in and out.
Speaker A: Okay, I got you Brett 86 luv. Let's go ahead and go through that particular list. We'll start with Brad, KB6L U V. Let's see the next trivia question that we have going on here is what famous jeweler makes the Lombardi trophy?
Speaker F: I think we have still so many keyed up here. Are you hearing me or am I being keyed over?
Speaker A: Yeah, let's see. I don't. They're. They're keying up but I don't really hear much going on. They just unkeyed here so. All right Brett, sorry about that.
Speaker G: They didn't key they were unkeyed.
Speaker F: I am not the biggest football fan nor trivia football trivia fan so I am going to have to pass on that. My guess would be K Duelers. Hi. Hi.
Speaker A: Kay jewelers. Nope, not thought Kay jewelers but that's not a bad guess. You got to know something about it. What are you up to today?
Speaker F: Well, this is a quick in and out so I'm just actually recovering from being sick this whole past week. So I will have more details tomorrow with the coffee breaknet but I'm Gonna head back to bed in a moment just to start recovery. I just wanted to hop on and say happy Super Bowl Sunday to folks and especially Larry. Ko6ihj. Go Seahawks for you, my man.
Speaker A: No doubt when Larry checks in, he'll let us know all about it. And sorry you've been sick. I'm glad you're feeling a little bit better and we'll catch you next time. Brett. KB6LUV KW6U73 thank you very much sir.
Speaker F: Everybody out there, coffee breaknet land. Have an amazing day. Enjoy the Super Bowl. KB6LUV take care of yourselves, Take care of each other. You of love 73 clear and listening.
Speaker A: Alrighty there. All right, let's go to KB1 PZS. Bob, do you have an answer to the question what famous jeweler makes the Lombardi Trophy? I'll go ahead and try again here, bob. Kb1tzs, are you there?
Speaker F: It.
Speaker A: All right. So somebody keeps keying up and interfering with things. Sorry about that, Bob. I'll try again here. KB1PZS. What famous jeweler makes the Lombardi Trophy?
Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, somebody was keying up. I don't know if I was getting over. I really don't know about the. What jeweler makes the Lombardi Trophy?
Speaker A: I don't know.
Speaker C: I'm just going to throw a guess out there because I know it's going to be wrong. But how about Jim Jewelers back to net control. KB1P's
Speaker A: well, that wasn't the correct answer. But hey, thanks for. Thanks for playing with it anyway. Boy, oh boy, this person keeps trying to check in here and they're just keying up and keying up.
Speaker D: So.
Speaker A: Hey Bob, thanks for checking into the net. KB1PZS, this is KW6U73.
Speaker C: Jeff.
Speaker G: I don't think they're trying to check in. I think their note is broken and unfortunately he disconnected and it comes right back. So maybe need to get Brian to put them on the blacklist. KK 06:00am.
Speaker A: Alright, Ray, thanks. Yeah, I'm not sure how I can do it on my end. There's not much I can do so other than try the disconnect, but I can't even see the node number right out the gate. I'll talk to you later in a few minutes there, Ray. Let's see. We'll go on down to. Let's see. KB1TZS. Thanks for checking in. Sorry about that. Let me go ahead and finish up properly. Did you have anything else for the net?
Speaker C: Nope, nope. Just if anybody Wants to know a report on the weather here. We got, we had three inches of snow yesterday. Today it was reported that we were going to have negative 35 degree wind chill here, which I haven't been out yet and I don't really want to go out. That's in the northern part of the state. And then they predict negative 22 wind chill for the rest of the state. And yeah, I know it was negative 2 degrees this morning. It went up to 8 degrees. So we're up to 8 degrees. I have not been out yet, but I do have to go out to go grocery shopping. So I'll find out back to net control.
Speaker A: Wow, that's, that's not the kind of weather we're used to over here unless you're, unless you're deep in the winter and snowboarding up in, up in the mountains.
Speaker C: So.
Speaker A: And even then that's, that's pushing it. Hey, have a great day. Be safe out there. If you do have to go out, it sounds like, you know, you just need to make, make sure you choose the window that's going to work for you. KV1TZS KW6073. All right. Good morning, Robert Ko6KMR. This is the KW6U. I've got us another super bowl question. Well, a Super bowl question, what famous jeweler makes the Lombardi Trophy? Do you have an answer?
Speaker D: I have no clue. Over.
Speaker A: Well, take a wild guess. It might be one you could guess.
Speaker D: To tell you the truth, right at this moment, I can't think of a jeweler at all, period. Over. But I appreciate the offer. Otherwise it's going to be a kind of a calm day here today. Just going to watch the football game with the wife. And I'm not really that much of a football fan, but Karen really loves the sport and so I'll be sitting beside her and otherwise I'll be taking some time and studying the extra manual and get ready for our Tuesday class. Over.
Speaker A: Well, I saw somebody trying to key up, but I got no reply at all through the repeater. Did anybody else make that out?
Speaker D: Yeah, Orion with the problems going on with the connectivity, I'm just going to turn it back to the Ned and appreciate you guys and happy super bowl day to everybody. Or.
Speaker A: Yeah, I don't, I can't hear anything coming through the repeater at all. So I don't know if we're having some issues at the moment or not. Any anybody can text me here and let me know what they're hearing.
Speaker E: This is Patrick KN6YCG I can hear both sides on EchoLink and I was on repeater phone or All Star connection and I moved to echo link just in case I was the problem. But I think somebody must have done a reset because echo link dropped out for about 15 seconds.
Speaker A: This is KM6 RFB, Jeff. I can hear both sides of the conversation over rf. Interesting, because I cannot hear anything coming through on my end. So it could be. Could be me.
Speaker E: Jeff, on that last transmission, I could hear a little bit of an audio feedback loop on everything that you said too.
Speaker A: Yeah, that's because I turned on my repeater phone to see if maybe the issue is on my end and I cannot see or hear anything. I think I got it now. I think I got something. I'm going to turn that off. I'll be right back.
Speaker F: All right.
Speaker A: I do think the problem was on my end and I think I have it. At least part of the problem was on my end and I got it solved. All right, so that got that said going forward here. Thanks, everybody for giving me a hand here. Robert Ko 6 KMR. I was talking to you and hopefully you didn't run away. I don't blame you if you did. But yeah, we're just going to get an answer to the super bowl question that I was asking.
Speaker C: Who?
Speaker A: What famous jeweler makes the Lombardi Trophy? You were guessing something.
Speaker D: Actually, I wasn't guessing anything. Have no idea. For some reason, Sororisi keeps coming back, but that's more of a glass type place. And otherwise I'm just going to be watching the football game and
Speaker A: in the
Speaker D: intermissions I'll probably be studying the extra class for Tuesday. And other than that, I'm going to just turn it back to you and
Speaker A: have a good day, everybody. All right. Studying for your extra. Fantastic. It's going to be a lot of fun. You're taking the classes then?
Speaker D: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm going through all the questions several times and I pretty well got. Well, I'm up to about 98% on 2, 3 and 4, which is as far as we've got right now. So that's not bad. If I can keep going like that, I should be okay during the test over.
Speaker A: Well, I sure enjoyed the class myself. I think it's a fantastic class it's offering. You learn probably more than you would by just reading the book. Even though the material is there. It's hard to process until you see. Hear it explained a couple times. It's a great group.
Speaker D: Oh, yeah, I'm much better when somebody explains it to me instead of me reading it. My wife Karen, she's exactly the opposite. She can read something and get it immediately, but I'm not like that. So this class is right up my alley.
Speaker B: Over.
Speaker A: Fantastic. Well, I'm glad you're having a good time with that. It sounds like you're going to do well. You're studying the way you need to and we look forward to hearing when you pass your exam.
Speaker D: And on that happy note, Kilo Oscar Six Kilo Mike Romeo. I'm just going to turn it back over to the net and appreciate it, everybody.
Speaker C: Over.
Speaker A: All right, Robert, thanks for checking into the net this morning. Enjoy your day and fun watching the super bowl if you do. And enjoy the food. Ko6kw6u73. Good morning, anna. Kd3ajn this is kw6u k. I know you. I don't know if you've been listening in, but what famous jeweler makes the lombardi trophy.

Speaker A: Good morning, Jeff, and everyone else on the net this morning. I'm not real big into trivia, but I take a guess of veils.
Speaker B: Was a good guess, but no, that's not quite right. I'm sure people who are listening in will eventually get the answer. But what are you going to end up doing today for your Super Bowl Sunday? Anything different?
Speaker A: Well, this morning we took down our Christmas tree finally and put it away. Got some dinner in the crock pot, and we're having chicken and potatoes and carrots cooked in Italian dressing. And we have a couple nets that we check into on Sunday evening, so we'll probably do that. I want to keep track of the game because I want Seattle to win. I don't want New England to win because I don't want them to get another super bowl ring. They can't have more than the Steelers.
Speaker B: Well, if you had checked in earlier, they do have more than the Steelers, but New England Patriots have won more super bowl than any other team. So that's a good reason to cheer for the other team. Just by itself.
Speaker A: Yes, That's. That's my reason. Other than that I never really cared for New England. They weren't the team that I really liked.
Speaker C: So
Speaker A: I've been rooting for Seattle all along. So everybody have a great day and enjoy the super bowl game. And stay warm. It's 13 degrees here. KD3HAN
Speaker B: all right, Anna, you enjoy your day and have a wonderful, wonderful Super Bowl Sunday. KD3HANKW6U73. And Patrick kn6yCG Good morning. And do you know the answer to the question? This question's been lagging on for a while, so we're finally going through some answers. But what famous jeweler makes the Lombardi Trophy?
Speaker C: Hey, good morning, guys. First, I have to start off by saying, a, I have not Google searched this, but I think I know it. And B, I am not a sports fan of any sport of any kind. So I'm going to say it's Tiffany's, and that'll be my guess with some minor confidence.
Speaker B: Well, with a high degree of confidence, you got it correct. It is Tiffany's. Tiffany's is the famous jeweler that makes the Lombardi Trophy, among others. So great job, great guessing, or you knew it from some fact.
Speaker C: I'll go ahead and forward my address so I can receive my prize.
Speaker B: Wow.
Speaker C: I almost felt like that was a voice text. And I put an exclamation point in the voice text. Anyway, listening to the net from beautiful downtown Sarasota, Florida, And I'm sorry to all those people who are suffering from that painful thing we call winter because I'm in shorts and flip flops and it's 70 degrees today.
Speaker B: Oh, wow. Yeah, that painful thing. Those folks up in New England right now are probably bemoaning what you just said.
Speaker C: I was hanging out on Main street last night with some local friends and it is interesting how many people we run into from the northeast right now and they're just down here soaking in a week or two of sun before they have to go back to the freeze. Which is a bummer, but some people I know do like it. I just happen to not be one of them. Anyway, if anybody was listening to the Net yesterday, I was on my beach cruiser fishing in the marina. And Orion, if you're listening, there's a fishing update. Apparently I caught a halibut, which I mistook for a flounder and then a bunch of other smaller fish. I don't even know what they were. I didn't keep anything. But the bite did pick up and it did end up reeling half a dozen fish in.
Speaker D: So that was pretty cool.
Speaker B: All right, you caught yourself a halibut. You just said you didn't keep anything, you threw it back. But kind of fun to fish in the harbor and catch things as you're going around. There's a lot of fish down there.
Speaker C: So, you know, being a California native living in Santa Monica for 25 years and then moving up to Granite Bay, which is where I met the club and joined the group and tested with the group and became a license operator. I've since moved on to the west coast of Florida and I'm loving it here so far. People are great, everybody's fun and friendly and. And it's got a good vibe and a little bit slower pace in Los Angeles. But anyway, so today's plans is I've already been to the groceries and picked up a steak, some fresh brussels sprouts and a potato to bake. And I think I'm just going to stay in and grill and try to avoid watching any football and probably just continue working on. I'm doing the Florida real estate exam right now, so I'm taking the 63 hour course that's required here. Anyway, just for ID. This is KN6YCG.
Speaker B: It sounds like you have a wonderful day planned in sunny and warm Sarasota, Florida. What's it like in the summertime?
Speaker C: Okay, as a native Californian, this is the best I can say. I'm always working on projects. Many Projects are outside the middle of summer in Granite. A could be pretty hot and miserable here. Just plan on being soaked through your clothing if you're working on a project at 10am outside. It's hot, it's muggy. My wife really struggles with it and I'm trying to just get used to it, but yeah, it can get pretty nasty. But luckily I'm not a professional ditch digger, so I can usually avoid it.
Speaker B: Years and years ago I was stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines and it could be hot and muggy there. No doubt about it. It would be close to 100 degrees and 90 plus percent humidity and maybe not quite as bad in terms of humidity as Sarasota because you're right on the water, but really bad. It would rain twice a day in the dry season and in the rainy season. The monsoon season would rain all the time, every day.
Speaker C: All right. I'm not sure what that was. Yeah, I like the tropical rain and even my wife and I will typically be out on our beach cruisers almost every day here. And even if it rains, we just duck under some cover, smile and enjoy the tropical rain and the fact that, you know, we're, you know, from the ocean. So let's see. Nothing else I don't think I have for the net. It was good chatting and I think I'm going to load up my cruiser with my disc golf stuff and ride over to the park down the street and go get a little bit of exercise before I do my real exercise, which will be a run little bit later this happening. This is KN6YCG Patrick out of Sarasota. Seven three. Everybody enjoy the game.
Speaker B: Well Patrick, thanks for checking into the net. I haven't heard you in a while
Speaker E: so this is pretty cool.
Speaker B: And just remember that rain brings rainbows in places like Sarasota. So have a great day. KN6YCG kW6U73.
Speaker C: Yes sir. 7 3. I enjoy it. Have a great day.
Speaker B: All right. Good morning. This is the copy breaknet, kw6u. The usual things is Super Bowl Sunday. I'm going to go ahead and take some more check ins here. Who wants to check into the net? Let me know if you are an in and out. I got some more trivia questions. We haven't made too much headway with them. And what are you having for lunch or for your Super Bowl Sunday?
Speaker D: KW6U taking check ins, KM6, RFB, KK6am, Kilo, charlie 6 sierra, lima, echo, Kb6ed.
Speaker B: All right, so I'll tell you who I have And I know someone else might have been trying to check in. But we'll go down the list. KB6ED. Good morning, Ed. Good morning, Grayton, Casey, 6sle. Good morning, Dave. K6DCL. Morning, Scott. KM6RFB and Ray, KK6am Like, I got those in bad reverse order there, but was there someone else trying to check in? All right, KB5VAO. I've got you in there as well. Good morning, Scott. Let's see, I got another trivia question for you. Somebody finally answered the other one. What two cities have hosted the most super bowl games?
Speaker D: I'm sorry, Jeff, I don't have a clue.
Speaker B: I don't follow football that well to
Speaker D: give you an answer.
Speaker B: Well, as busy as you are, I'm not entirely surprised that that's the case. You can take a stab at it. Anyway, I bet you'll come close.
Speaker D: San Francisco.
Speaker B: That wasn't correct, but that's okay. So moving on, what are you up to today?
Speaker D: Well, right now I'm rewiring my moving wires around in my shack trying to get things organized. I just hooked up a new digital SWR meter and waiting on some parts to show up for my terminated folded dipole antenna and just moves me one step closer to being done next. I'm just waiting on the resistor to show up. And other than that, got a lot, not a lot going on. Aries net tonight, 7:30 on the W6ek repeater at 7:30.
Speaker B: All right, so the Aries nets on W6ek. I'll go ahead and do those announcements after a bit. And that makes it quick and easy for you. Yeah.
Speaker D: Other than that, I'm not doing much for Super Bowl. Going to just enjoy the day. And I'm gonna probably head into the train room here in a little bit and do some more work on the train layout.
Speaker C: Okay.
Speaker B: This is the first I've heard you have a train room that it's the entire room.
Speaker D: Huh?
Speaker B: It's all trains.
Speaker D: I have an entire room in my house. It is a train layout. It even includes the closet. I've been working on this for the last few years and kind of took a break from it for a little while. And I'm getting back to it and just working on the different towns and the buildings and trying to get it all set up. Getting closer, though, probably in about another. I'm suspecting probably by June I should have a train running on the tracks.
Speaker B: What size train are you running?
Speaker D: This is all HO scale. So this was all my dad's stuff and stuff That I played with when I was a kid and it went into storage when my dad passed away. My mom's like, where does it need to go? And I'm like, well, I'll take it. And so. So this is about 1970s, 1980s technology. So I've been in the process of. So the old systems were DC and I'm converting all the engines to dcc, which means I have to put all new motors in them and rewire them and put controllers in them. This allowed me to run multiple trains on the same track at the same time. And then repairing all the old broken stuff and tracking down the parts.
Speaker B: Well, that is one heck of a hobby to put together. Plus creating the scenery and the hills and whatever else you're doing around it. Love to see some progress on that someday. You know, it's kind of fun to watch. I enjoyed that growing up as well. At friends house. It was always fun.
Speaker D: Yeah. So everything I'm building except buildings for the most part is all home built. All the scenery is home built. A lot of the stuff is 3D printed. So yeah, it's, you know, it's kind of important to me to do this. Once I complete it, I don't know what will happen. But just a great little hobby to have right now. It's very relaxing and stress relieving.
Speaker B: I'll bet it is. And you make a little progress and it starts to build and you've had it for a while but you're back at it again. There's a Zen kind of a feeling when it comes to. Well, this is creative art kind of stuff. Yeah.
Speaker D: And you know, it's kind of a tribute to my dad because it's something he never got a chance to finish. And I really want to finish this and get the train running around. It's really challenging trying to fit modern technology into an older locomotive and trying to find the right parts and having to develop the process with. To do this. Because normally you just have to buy new equipment and I don't want to spend that kind of money. So I'm teaching myself how to work with fiber optics and just rewiring stuff.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's a pretty cool. That's a pretty cool hobby all the way around. You know, I think. Yeah, we know we have some members of the club that have done trains before and of course we have KK7 Air who does the big trains. And he probably does smaller ones as well. But it's always fun. He's probably got some great ideas or could help you solve problems.
Speaker C: If you need it,
Speaker D: you know, and that's the beauty about it. There's a lot of people involved in it. You don't know. There are a lot of closet railroad hobbyists out there. And it's kind of nice. But you know, what's really kind of fun is you develop a problem and you walk away from it and you
Speaker B: think about it and then you get
Speaker D: clarity and you go back and you figure out the problem. You figure it out and solve it. And that's kind of the fun part about all this.
Speaker B: Well, that makes it your project through and through creative and a little engineering. And you put the two together and you solve it in time. It'll never be finished, but it'll be close enough to enjoy.
Speaker D: Exactly. You know, part of the thing is I built part of it and walked away from it and thought about it and thought about it and came back and went, you know, I don't like that. I'll tear it up and start over again on a certain section. And so it's kind of fun. Between that and radios, I don't have a paycheck anymore.
Speaker B: Well, so be it. Scott with no paycheck, he's got stuff that keeps you poor. I guess we all kind of have.
Speaker D: Have that situation going to some degree. Yeah, but it's fun. I gotta admit, it's a lot of fun. And, you know, it does take up a big chunk of my. My house. But hey, you know, why not? When I'm done with it, we'll see
Speaker B: how long it lasts.
Speaker D: But it's just fun to have. I'll let you get back to the net, Jeff. Have a great day, everybody. Stay safe and enjoy the super bowl wherever you're at.
Speaker B: All right. You enjoy it as well if you happen to turn it on. And we'll see how it goes. KM6RFP KW6U73.
Speaker D: 73.
Speaker B: Good morning, Ray. KK6am oh, let's see. That last trivia question is what two cities have hosted the most super bowl games? Maybe you got the answer to that.
Speaker E: Not a chance. I'll be honest. I have never watched a Super bowl game. Never wanted to. I'll do my best to avoid them.
Speaker B: All right, well, that's you. You don't watch this. Well, you watch some sports. What do you watch? What's your favorite then of the big event?
Speaker E: You know, I don't watch it as much as I used to, but various types of motor racing. And I guess because Christina's really wrapped up in it, I'm going to have to start watching Formula One.
Speaker D: Formula One.
Speaker B: I do find that's one of the things. I haven't gone to a of lot live event for Formula One, but I like Formula One as well. I can't say that I'm a NASCAR fan. I wish I were, but I don't enjoy it as much as Formula One.
Speaker E: NASCAR was fun in the 50s and 60s and early 70s. Then they clamped it down and made everything exciting.

2026-02-08 16:50:01 UTC 1200.0s · W6GRC TX (147.105 MHz)

Speaker A: The same and it's no fun anymore.
Speaker B: Yeah, they try and make it, make it fair, no cheating, whatever, but that's part of it. That's part of the game, you know, get it down to the skills of racing. What I actually enjoy watching the most in terms of racing is MotoGP. I've been to quite a few live MotoGP events. I've been to NASCAR live. I've been to. I've not been to a Formula One. I bet I'll enjoy that. But NASCAR, I mean, MotoGP to me is terribly exciting, even on TV.
Speaker A: Well, another one that used to be interesting was IndyCar and now there's a bunch of Hondas driving around here. It's kind of boring.
Speaker B: Yeah, I didn't really. I get into that a little bit. I've been to, well, Sonoma Raceway, that used to be. I can't remember the name of it before. That's a driver's track for nascar. So I've been to that track before and I enjoyed that. Live is totally different than watching it on tv. So if you've enjoyed some, you know, different little sprint car races. I like the sprint cars around the dirt track. That was always fun.
Speaker A: Yeah, Sears Point is what you were trying to say. Yeah, I like dirt track. It just has to be live though. There's no way that can be watched on tv. And then it takes me back to. Oh yeah, I used to drive those things.
Speaker B: I think I remember you mentioning something about that a while ago. I forgot you used to drive. Well, whatever a sprint car was back then.
Speaker A: Oh, what I was racing was what I think now they call them street stocks or something like that. They had to be a real American car body had to have an engine in it. The original motor mounts, carburetion was limited to 14 barrel. Other than that, anything goes. And it did.
Speaker B: It was open category. Yeah, that's going to be fun. There's a few races around the world that do like auto racing if it's on dirt. I think that's probably my, you know, my favorite, the rally cars when they're racing out there. I have. Gives me a heart attack when you're in the first person view. When they have the camera inside the car, they're booking along the way. They are. It's remarkable what they can do.
Speaker A: Yep. And by the way, the guy that was tying up the Internet now legitimately came on and talked. But when that was happening, I think it was just somebody sitting on the microphone because I heard some voices in the background too.
Speaker B: Yeah, I see. I've got to check in here. It could have been some technical thing and it's easy enough to make those errors. Not a big deal. We got it solved and moving on with our day.
Speaker A: Like I said, had to have been, you know, accidentally keyed or whatever. But there were definitely voices in the background.
Speaker B: That happens. It happens to the best of us. Anyway, Ray, you know, did you have, you don't have any guesses for that particular. What cities have the most super bowl games. So eating else for the net?
Speaker A: Nope, that's about it. And oh, the other thing Thomas didn't point out that Christina was proud because she made the note is how far she's getting in on the CW. So, yeah, you get the idea. 73 KK 6am
Speaker B: Skill building as much as possible. I need to try and make a contact with her. We'll have to put that together. I know where she's at in practice and so it'll be about right. Very cool. Have a great day, Ray. We'll catch you next time. And thanks for watching out in the background. KK 6:00am KW6U73. Good morning, Dave. K6DCL. Do you have an answer to the mystery question? What two cities have hosted the most super bowl games?
Speaker C: Well, good morning. Good morning to you. And yeah, I take a stab at it. You know, football, of course, the super bowl is always in the wintertime, rainy cold, so they usually stay in the more temperate, warmer areas. So I will pick New Orleans and the other one, Miami. New Orleans in Miami,
Speaker B: You are 100% correct. They have hosted the most super bowl games, Miami and New Orleans, one and two. Very cool. Yeah. So you are, what are you up to today with regards to Super Bowl? Are you going to watch? You have some big food plans, you know, anything that will stop your heart?
Speaker C: Well, everything and a lot will stop your heart. Anyway, yeah, we're going to have chicken and we're going to have some barbecued wings and stuff like that. Yeah. So we're going to enjoy that stuff. No beer, no wine. We're not going to bevy and that stuff, but we're just going to have a good time. Our teams are not playing, which is a shame, but we certainly love the Rams 49ers, but they're not in it. So anyway, it is what it is. We'll watch the game and because somebody said we watched the game because of the commercials and not particularly the singing, I don't even know who that person is anyway. Maybe I'm getting too old. K6PCO, back to you, my friend.
Speaker B: Well, it's, you know, you can always enjoy the game regardless if you don't have a dog in the fight. And you know, everyone has a, a toss up guess and the commercials can be fun to watch. I do enjoy them this time.
Speaker C: You know, you gotta take it, whatever you get if you like football and I like football. I like football. My one of my grandsons plays with the Ravens and he was in the squad for the team that practices with them and he enjoys it very much. He goes back to work on March in March and we're very proud of him and we hope he is a player here this coming year. We never can tell, especially with them having a brand new coach and all that stuff. Anyway, that's it for now. My finger is getting weak. K6TCO, Jeff. Have a wonderful day. Have a wonderful week. So such a pleasure to Talk with you, K6DCO.
Speaker B: All right, Dave, enjoy your day and say hi to Lucy and thanks for checking into the net this morning. K6DCO.kw6u73. Good morning, Graden. KC6SOLE. I have another, another trivia question for you you might know the answer to. You ready?
Speaker D: I'm ready, Jeff. Go ahead.
Speaker B: All right, let's see who won the super bowl the year of the infamous wardrobe malfunction.
Speaker D: Oh, Janet Jackson, I believe. Let's see who won the super bowl that year. I haven't got a clue.
Speaker B: Neither did I when I read the question. To be fair, of course, everybody remembers the wardrobe malfunction. But does anyone remember who played?
Speaker D: Yeah, I remember. I think I got up to get a snack and I missed that. But my family thought, my daughter, she saw it. She was shocked.
Speaker B: Yeah. I happened to be watching at a friend's house. They were having the super bowl and they got this huge scream that year, you know, whatever was new at the time. And it was obvious something happened. Big malfunction. Well, we'll find out. Somebody's going to know the answer. Who won that year.
Speaker A: Maybe.
Speaker B: We'll see.
Speaker D: Can I ask you on the you and Ray talking about sprint cars, dirt track cars, when I was growing up in the Valley. Thank you. Growing up just about the same time, maybe a little bit later. I think you're a little younger. Did you ever spend any time at the Madera Speedway?
Speaker B: When I was real little, we went to the Madera Speedway. That was not. I was probably 6 or 7 years old at the time. My grandfather took me and two of his uncles. We went to the speedway.
Speaker D: You'd Go down there on a Saturday evening and it tended to be a family affair. You drag the whole family down there. But they also had a similar track. Speedway and Clovis. Either be one of the two for the Saturday night.
Speaker B: Yeah, I did have some friends that would drive, you know, because I was there. I would spend the summers there a month, maybe two. And I wasn't actually living down there so much, but it was fun in the summertime. And some of the friends that I was with, they. They drove in it. And for some reason I always missed it for, you know, whatever reason, I wasn't able to go and watch them drive. This would have been in high school
Speaker D: when I was selling things, turning wrenches, installing tires at J.C. penning's Auto Sales. While I was in college, one of the guys I worked with, one of the mechanics, decided to build his rent car for his son. And it was interesting watching him trying to break into the local racing. And it was very frustrating for him and his son because we just didn't go out there and start racing with the guys that had been doing it for years. And week after week, they would put him into the wall and take him out of the race just to. Just to show him we're the big dogs, you're the little dog.
Speaker B: Interesting.
Speaker A: So
Speaker B: they were restricting entries into it all. They didn't have a class for him. Maybe there wasn't enough people getting entry to it.
Speaker D: You know, he finally learned that if he was going to do that, if he was going to participate in it, he had to fight his way in, he had to fight back. And I think that's how you earn their respect. I think it was a rite of passage if you wanted to get in that type of race. It was a small circle, small group of guys that did that. But if you sat on the front row, you had to be prepared to go home dirty. Because they would water down the track with a dirt track, clay track, and they'd water down the track. And when the cars came around, if you sitting right up front in the bleachers, you would get a nice coat of dirt when they went by.
Speaker B: Yeah, I remember that. That's a lot of fun watching that. I always like to sit up a little higher so I could see the whole track better. But I remember watching people get sprayed from time to time.
Speaker D: I was going to mention that I know something else about Scott. I didn't know that Scott was into trains. I probably should have known that talking to him. But Scott is also into black powder rifles, muzzleloaders, And I am too. So Scott's got a lot, a lot of hobbies. In addition to being very, very busy in his professional life. He's got a lot, a lot of good hobbies as well.
Speaker B: I can see that. No doubt about it. He's got a lot going on and plenty to. He's not a sit still kind of guy.
Speaker D: No, he's not. You know, I could have been bitten by the train bug, but. And I do have some trains, O scale trains back in Concord storage. But that's another rabbit hole you could fall into that has no end. There's no bottom to that pit.
Speaker B: Well, on the O scale, aren't they larger than the ho or. I'm trying to think of the size.
Speaker D: They are larger. They take up a lot more real estate. The ones you typically see have a 3 rail track because the power flows in the center rail and goes to the two outer rails. That way the train can run either direction. You know, they're not. I've got. Scott would probably like it, give them a picture of it someday. But I have a train that my uncle, I should say my great uncle gave me one time when we were back in Michigan, much to the surrender of my dad. My dad wanted that train and he skipped. My dad gave it to me and my dad was always jealous of that. So after I moved out of the house, the train disappeared. When I went back after I moved into the Bay Area, went back to get the train one day, he said, I don't know what happened to the train. I can't find it. Years later, when I was off the 10 acres, I opened up the trunk on one of the old cars that he never got rid of. There was my train set hiding in the trunk of the car.
Speaker B: Moved it around and it almost was lost forever.
Speaker D: Yeah, I just imagine I could have sold that car. And whoever got this was. It's actually very collectible Lionel trains out of the, I think early 40s. It would have. It would have been a real bonus whoever bought the car when they finally got the trunk open to find the train fit in there. But fortunately I found it and it's on the mantel in Concord. One of the days I got to move it up here. Anyway, I'll let you get on with the net. Good talk to you, Jeff. Did I answer all the questions on Super Bowl? I guess I did. Anyway, everybody have a great day. Casey successfully.
Speaker B: Well, we talked about it, but you didn't actually answer the question. So did you give me a team that who won the Super Bowl? The year of the famous. You actually gave me an answer.
Speaker D: I'm going to guess the Eagles. Just first thing that comes to mind. KC6SOLE.
Speaker B: All right, good guess. Not the answer. So we'll just move on down the list. Have a great day, Graydon. Enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday. Say Hi to Lisa. KC6SLE. KW6U73. Good morning, Ed. KB6Ed. Going down the list, nice and slow. Do you know the answer to who won the super bowl the year of the infamous Ward Rolled malfunction?
Speaker E: Good morning, Jeff and Minette. I do not know the answer. And in fact, if you had asked who had the malfunction, I couldn't have told you. I didn't remember that until Graydon mentioned it. And then I remembered, oh, yeah, there was that incident, but I didn't actually
Speaker D: see it and
Speaker E: got missed out.
Speaker B: Whenever there's some kind of a controversy, everybody feels like they missed out. But really, it probably wasn't that big of a deal. It just seemed like it at the time.
Speaker E: Yeah, well, watching the Super Bowl, I got my fingers crossed. We don't get any TV stations here where I'm at in Redwood Valley, which is where I'm at this weekend, and I don't subscribe to any of the streamers that are going to be providing super bowl coverage, so I'm kind of counting on Roku. There's a thing called Tubi. I've never used it before, and I hear that the super bowl might be on there. I'm hoping that if it is, that they're carrying all the same commercials and so forth so that I don't miss out. Yeah, and today we're going to make pizzas here. My housemate and I, she doesn't like olives on hers. I like olives on mine. So we're gonna make our own individual pizzas, and that'll be our big. Our big treat for Super Bowl.
Speaker B: Now I'm making homemade pizzas. That sounds great. Do you have a pizza oven specifically, or do you make them in the oven?
Speaker E: No, just in the oven and.

Speaker A: And in fact, I'm not even making my own dough. I got pizza dough pre made and Trader Joe's pizza sauce, which is pretty good stuff. And then an assortment of veggies and so forth to put on. And yeah, they're gonna be a treat.
Speaker B: They absolutely will. Fresh pizzas at Ed's house. That sounds great. And while you enjoy your day with your wife there making pizzas, it sounds like you're gonna have fun.
Speaker A: So can I throw a trivia question your way? And keeping in mind that this is coming from a smart aleck.
Speaker B: Love to hear it. Yeah, let's go for it.
Speaker A: So you were asking about a Super bowl that had a blackout, I think after halftime. So I. What recent super bowl had a blackout during halftime?
Speaker B: Well, I don't know the answer to that question. I would have to. I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker A: Yeah, like I say, coming from a smart aleck and will probably get me out of here as quick as possible after I threw the answer out. But the last super bowl had about 100 performers come out and do all that dancing and everything around and there wasn't a single white person in the group. So There you go. KV6 CD73.
Speaker B: Oh no, I'm not a PC one. Well, that is a smart aleck trivia question. Well, in either case, Ed, enjoy your day. Alec, I think you'll find it. Let's see, Peacock is what I'll be watching it on. So that would be what? NBC. So maybe you'll find it that way. Maybe that'll help you find the Super Bowl.
Speaker C: Thanks.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm trying to avoid the subscription, but all fine. Maybe we'll even have to do that. But thanks and enjoying the net today. Thanks for running it.
Speaker C: KB6 CD.
Speaker B: All right, Ed, thanks for checking in as well. We'll catch you next time. KB6D KW6273. And Good morning, David. KB5VAO, if you're still there, do you have an answer for the trivia question?
Speaker D: Who won the super bowl of the
Speaker B: year of the famous Ward world malfunction.
Speaker C: Oh, good morning to everybody. Coffee break? I do believe I'm going to guess it was New England then too. Super bowl malfunctions. Winning thing and not a whole lot else going on.
Speaker B: Well, that is actually the correct answer. So yeah, that year New England won also. How about that? You got it right. What else are you doing today? You doing anything food wise? You're going to have something you shouldn't ever eat again.
Speaker C: Now I'm gonna Go to my friends and watch the bowl game over there. Lots of food, you know, pizza, chicken, that sort of stuff.
Speaker B: It sounds like fun. Watching the game with friends is always the best way. I think we have some of the kids coming over today and so we'll be doing that with a family thing. But it'll be fun either way.
Speaker C: Sounds good. Now if you wanted, if the previous check in wanted to listen to it on like a radio, you could use the Westbound app or go to the website and listen to it without a subscription.
Speaker B: Yeah, these days it's getting harder and harder to find something you don't have to pay for to watch. But you can always go up an antenna and watch broadcast. If that works.
Speaker C: That always works too.
Speaker B: In fact, I'm in the range when I can actually do that, but I don't have an antenna. I do have an antenna, I just don't have it connected. But in either case, David, anything else for the net this morning?
Speaker C: No, I was just gonna do a one in for the history books there.
Speaker B: All right, well we got you in the net here. Thanks for checking into the net this morning. Hopefully you have a wonderful Super Bowl Sunday. Enjoy your game and the day with friends. And if you want, we'll give you a trivia question. Taking check ins. Let me know if you're an in n out.
Speaker D: Kilo, Oscar, 6, India, Hotel, Juliet. In and out, Larry.
Speaker E: Auburn,
Speaker B: Kilo, November 6th.
Speaker F: Whiskey in 6WQ.
Speaker B: Kilo, November 6th, November Uniform, Foxtrot, Ko6th. Good morning. All right, looks like we got our list. I'll go through it. It was nice. Nice spacing, everybody. Ko6th gre. Good morning. I've got you. Let's see. K and 6nuf, Joshua. Got you, Dan. K and 6wq as in and out. Good morning. And KN6gaa. Frank, good to hear you again. And Larry, K06ihj. Got you as an in n out. Larry, are you ready for a new. Larry, I know you're in and out, but did you hear the last question? Nobody did get the answer yet. Actually, somebody got the answer. So I'm going to give you a new mystery question. Name the only, the only team to go to four straight Super Bowls.
Speaker F: Good morning. Only team to go to ko6ihj here.
Speaker C: Good morning. Only 15 to go. Patriots. You know, it's a sixth one, so that's at least four.
Speaker D: Other than that, I'm doing nothing today.
Speaker C: Hope your day is going well.
Speaker D: I gotta go to town and get
Speaker C: some snacks and I don't know what I'm doing today. What's going on?
Speaker B: I for sure thought you might know what's going on. Of course you know what's going on. You're just making stuff up now.
Speaker C: Being goofy. Yeah, I was trying to. Oh, okay.
Speaker D: Let's go with the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker C: Okay.
Speaker B: No, as far as the question is concerned, that is not the correct answer. People who have won four in a row, it might not be who you think. Now you got me.
Speaker D: Let me think, let me think.
Speaker C: Miami Dolphins.
Speaker B: Well, you've already had your guess. It's not the Miami Dolphins either. But that said, I'm sure you are going to be ready and excited for today game. And I'm guessing that you have some a team that you want to win. The Patriots.
Speaker D: Yeah, I hope they.
Speaker C: No, I hope everybody just threw their
Speaker F: mouth a little bit there.
Speaker C: No, I'm a Seahawks fan.
Speaker F: They're gonna win. I'm not. No.
Speaker C: Scared I might even take a nap during the game just to prove it.
Speaker D: Anyway, let's get back to that.
Speaker C: Just quick hanging out. Everybody have a blessed day.
Speaker B: Enjoy the day.
Speaker C: Go Hawks. K6IHJ. Except three.
Speaker B: All right, Larry, enjoy your game. Get those snacks, get whatever you're going to eat. Have. Have a good day. K6ihj.kw6u73
Speaker C: It's Buffalo Bills. Don't tell anybody.
Speaker B: Good morning, Dan. K6WQU. How are you this morning? What's going on? And you ready for a questionnaire?
Speaker F: Good morning Jeff and the net.
Speaker B: This is KM6WQ.
Speaker F: Just pulled us to a job this morning. Usually I get to sleep in until right around 9 o', clock, which is usually right around the time I'm supposed to be at work on the weekend because I don't have to maintain the screen. So I'm over helping my little helper today because he went to, I guess school get a tire changed on, on his car and he went over a speed bump. Almost all but one of his lug nuts blew off of his car. So we had to figure out what's wrong with that.
Speaker B: But yeah, hit me. All right, since Larry posed it in the last question with the last minute answer, let's do a new one. What was the lowest attended Super Bowl? This might actually be very easy if you think about it.
Speaker C: Let's see here.
Speaker F: Super Bowl, I think I'm not really a football fan, but I'm just going to take a wild guess.
Speaker C: Let's say six.
Speaker B: It wasn't Super Bowl 6, but that's a good guess. Yeah, lowest attended super bowl where was probably something, if you think about it makes sense. But I'll let you, you know, take another stab at it. One more stab.
Speaker F: Oh, okay. Because of COVID and stuff. So I don't know what this is, but the one before this.
Speaker B: Yeah, it was during COVID It was actually in 2021. The restrictions for COVID 19 had only 25,000 fans allowed to attend the game between Tampa Bay and Kansas City Chiefs in Tampa, Florida. And the stab was the hint
Speaker C: because
Speaker B: I'm sure you would have had to have been vaccinated in order to watch that game.
Speaker F: Yeah, unfortunately I'm not a, I'm not a football fan. I'm a NASCAR guy. So yeah, I don't really watch any kind of rugby or any of that stuff, but if you got a NASCAR game on, I'll watch that. Anyway, thanks for running that today, Jeff, and I'll let you go on down the list. This is K and 6WQ. Everybody have a great day.
Speaker B: All right, Dan, Have a great day and we'll catch you next time. And I'll. Don't work too hard. KN6WQ. KW6U73.
Speaker F: That's why I'm picking up my buddy today.
Speaker B: It's his turn. KN6 GAA. Good to hear you again. You got him. I have another question for you. You might get this one right out the gate. Which player has the most super bowl rings in history?
Speaker E: Morning, Jeff and Danette.
Speaker B: Are you kidding me? I haven't a clue.
Speaker E: I haven't a prayer on that one. The other one I might have had actually had a good shot on this one.
Speaker F: Absolutely.
Speaker C: And completely lost. Yeah.
Speaker B: If I would have had to have guessed, I would have guessed this answer. So I think I actually, in my own head got it right. But of course I'm sitting here reading it so I can't announce it. Take a stab. Just take a guess.
Speaker E: Well, see, it would be kind of a weird one because I have hardly any knowledge of any of the football players. I'm more of a baseball fan myself, to be honest with you. I watched the super bowl and football just kind of be close.
Speaker B: But I'm not.
Speaker E: I'm not much of a football fan
Speaker B: myself, so I'm really.
Speaker E: I can't even think of any of any player's name off the top of my head. All kinds of names are going through my head. Except for football, believe it or not. Oh, boy, you caught me on that one, Jeff.
Speaker B: I don't know.
Speaker F: Big deal.
Speaker B: We'll just ask the question again. It was probably going to be on TV today, not playing so well. What else is going on with your day? What are you up to?
Speaker C: Not much.
Speaker E: Listening to the. To the net here and just doing a little housekeeping here and kind of having planning the rest of the day. Like I said, I'm not much of a football fan myself, but I do take as an excuse to have some
Speaker C: good food and some good drink.
Speaker E: And that's probably what's going to happen. I don't know yet. All kinds of ideas are floating around.
Speaker F: Who is it?
Speaker E: CD making homemade pizza. That sounds really, really enticing. Or Anna was talking about some. She's got some chicken on the crock pot with. With Italian dressing, which I've actually kind of heard of but never actually made. But I hear tell it's really, really good. So that's what we're trying to figure out, Jeff. All kinds of ideas for some good food and just an excuse to. To do nothing but just eat and have noise.
Speaker B: Yeah. Food is as much a part of Super Bowl.

Speaker B: How you doing this morning? Good morning.
Speaker A: Hey, I'm doing really well. I just want to let you all know, for those that do the single sideband on Sunday, I won't be there. I'm still in Oceanside and won't be back until late tonight. I just want to give them a heads up.
Speaker B: All right. I haven't heard anybody on this receiver this morning except for some California folks. If I hear from them, I'll try to pass on your message.
Speaker A: That was great. Thank you. It also gave me an opportunity to check out the ecosystem from where I'm at in these mountains. And it's working pretty good from what I can hear.
Speaker B: I was wondering if you were on echolink because there's a long, long delay after you finish transmitting repeater. Yeah, I was wondering if that's what was happening.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm sitting atop to some absolutely gorgeous, beautiful mountain top in Oceanside. It's just beautiful out here.
Speaker B: Out there visiting, work, play what's happening.
Speaker A: Yeah, I came out to help some, my fellow Marine, my son get some work accomplished on it. Truck. We had a major job they had to get done in a day's time. So three of us tag teamed it and we got it all done.
Speaker B: All righty then. Plan went as. Procedure went as planned. That's good.
Speaker A: It did. It gave me some time to spend with my son and his submarines and, you know, we just had a great weekend.
Speaker B: The weather out there equally as nice as where we're at.
Speaker A: 71 and Sign Lake Free. Absolutely gorgeous.
Speaker B: Oh, that is nice. We're just at 58 where I'm at. I'm about to. Yeah, that is nice weather. Yeah.
Speaker A: And I got said in the evening time, the wind picks up and it gets cold really quick.
Speaker B: The evenings have been comfortable enough. We had some people over last night for a fire, our first one of 2026. And yeah, it went really well. Temperature was just right, low wind. Everything worked out well.
Speaker A: That's always nice when weather cooperates and you can have a good time.
Speaker B: All right, I'm going to offload my cardboard and recycling here. You have a good day. Have safe travels at home and we'll catch up with you when you get back in town. 89 TRL.

Speaker B: Yeah, I go up to paradise and work at the property, though. I got stuff to do. Trying to. Gardening kind of stuff. And getting ready for that rain coming Tuesday.
Speaker A: Yeah, the stuff here coming tonight.

Speaker A: Sunday is the game itself that might
Speaker B: even be more important.
Speaker A: I think it's our excuse to cut loose and have all the fun stuff you normally wouldn't eat.
Speaker C: You know, it's really funny because I.
Speaker A: Football, the big day of football is
Speaker C: what Thanksgiving usually and super bowl is kind of like the culmination of that. And so it's like Thanksgiving 2.0, as it were. As far as the food goes, that's how always viewed it always felt about that. What do you think?
Speaker A: Well, food connects people. We always like sharing meals when we get together. And so that's a human thing. So it doesn't surprise me at all that large events, you know, Thanksgiving and having super bowl on, not super bowl, but the Thanksgiving game makes sense. You know, you're going to have a lot of food when we gather. But Super Bowl Sunday, it's no surprise that food is the. Is the near biggest thing.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker B: You know, because it's still cold, it's
Speaker C: still not kind of ideal for barbecue and it's just kind of endorsey kind of thing. And it's just a good excuse to just pig out, in my humble opinion. And nothing wrong with that. Not at all. Like I said, we're. We're just trying to figure out. I've. Somebody was just figuring out. Yeah, Peacock is going to be playing and you can also watch it on KCRA 3 on the antenna if you don't have the connection, if you don't have Peacock or any of the paid services, if you do have an antenna. KCRA, is that NBC? Is it KCRA or Channel 10? I. No, I think it's KCRI, Channel 3 MVC. They're going to be playing as well.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker A: On broadcast it should be. Should be playing locally and I think that is KCRA 3. It seems that changed over the years, but whatever's NBC, Peacock and KCRA should be the local here. I don't know, Nationwide probably. Peacock would be the best way to watch it. But yeah, that's, that's how you can see it. I, I have actually where I'm at, I'm up on a hill and when I have my antenna hooked up to the tv, I can actually reach quite well. The broadcast comes in beautifully.
Speaker D: Comment.
Speaker C: Right as you keyed up. Jeff,
Speaker A: go ahead, comment.
Speaker C: Yeah, this is Ed, KB6 Ed again, I was mentioning that I cannot get any TV channels here in Rudyard Valley.
Speaker D: We're kind of tucked down in the
Speaker C: hills and I don't know how high I'd have to get a TV antenna to reach Those broadcast channels. But anyway, I appreciate all the ideas
Speaker D: people are throwing around.
Speaker C: I'm sure everybody's going to find their way and I'll find my KB6ed.
Speaker A: Yeah, good luck with that. If you're in a hole, sometimes it makes it difficult depending on where you are and distance. But it's surprising. There are some websites that can give you a clue. You can definitely hook up, you know, your location and the height of an antenna and see what. What direction will give you a signal. It'll even give you an approximate signal report. So you can probably figure it out, but you may have already done that work. Good luck looking online. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Thanks, Ed, for comment. Anyway, Frank, back to you.
Speaker C: I didn't realize he was tucked away on that side. I actually. That's actually the way we watch it here because, believe it or not, it's a little bit better than Peacock. When you get the good signal, the surround sound, it's even better. For whatever reason, I noticed that Peacock sometimes actually cuts up that on the audio. And I don't know, it's annoying given the fact that they're raking in the cash that they have the means. And for some reason, sometimes they end up doing that.
Speaker A: Yeah, I think their system gets overwhelmed with all of the traffic and they don't. Well, maybe they've solved it this year, but in the past, it seems that they've had some problems. We've had interruptions that didn't work out very well. And it wasn't our Internet speed. It was just straight up from Peacock.
Speaker C: Not surprised. I'm not surprised at all. The amount of connection and whatnot. Well, that's pretty much all I have. Jeff, thanks for running the net. Good talk to you. And I'm still trying to your new call sign, which is a cool call sign, actually. And that's pretty much all we have. I hope everybody has a wonderful Super Bowl Sunday and good food, and we'll wish everybody a good day. This is KN6GAA.
Speaker A: All right, Frank. Yeah. Thanks for checking into the net this morning. Always a pleasure to chat with you. And we'll catch you next time. This is kw6u for the coffee break net and Joshua. Good morning, kn6nuf. You ready for a trivia question? Which player has the most super bowl rings in history?
Speaker D: I wish I knew football well enough, but I want to say that my guess would be the San Francisco 49ers.
Speaker A: Well, it's actually a specific player and nope, he was never a 49er. So we'll just take a no on that one. What are you up to today? What's your super bowl plans?
Speaker D: Well, I'm happy to report that I'm
Speaker B: home from the hospital.
Speaker D: They released me yesterday, so I drove myself home and grabbed my prescriptions and been relaxing with my dog.
Speaker A: I know you were in the hospital. My apologies. And I hope you're going to heal well from whatever that they did and hopefully you're able to relax and enjoy your day.
Speaker D: Yeah, I discovered on Monday that I just started having fever and chills and so I went to sleep thinking I was coming down with the flu. And it turns out that, you know, I wasn't getting much better. Started having bad stomach cramps and so I went to urgent care on Wednesday morning and they said I have diverticulitis with a micro fissure and I needed to go to the ER and get intravenous antibiotics.
Speaker A: Boy, when that gets out of control, diverticulitis can be. Yeah, it can get infected and be miserable. So I hope you are feeling much, much better and Good. Good to hear you, actually. Hopefully that is the case. Right, you're feeling better now?
Speaker D: At this point, I am feeling excellent. The intravenous antibiotics did the job. I was in the hospital from Wednesday through Saturday morning, so it took several doses and things like that. But the staff at Rideout Hospital was amazing and we had the greatest time. I made the best of the situation. I believe in the placebo effect and it's working quite well. So I'm just going with it, focusing on healing and eating the right foods and taking my medicines and doing everything that the doctor says. I got to pick a primary physician, so I've been reading over the different doctor profiles and things, trying to find a good general practitioner that also has good knowledge in gastroenterology in the area for Sutter Network. So that's my goal right now. Yeah, it's going great.
Speaker A: Well, no hot wings and beer cheese for you, I think just yet. You'll be eating more of a careful diet that won't cause more infection, I'm sure.
Speaker D: Yeah, it's all low fiber and things, but I've been enjoying a lot of different yogurts and cottage cheeses and fruits and. And things like that. So I made myself a really delicious broccoli and spinach soup last night. It was delicious. I'll probably have that for lunch again today. Yeah, so just a change. Probably a needed change. And yeah, so it's funny because I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy back in 2021 and they said there was no signs of.
Speaker A: Yeah, I've never had an infection and you know, I go through my every. I'm on a five year schedule for colonoscopies. They're not fun. But I'm so glad to hear that you're doing better. And yeah, follow the doctor's advice. I'm sure that's going to make you feel better long term.
Speaker D: Absolutely. Yeah. I scared my kids a little bit having to go into the hospital, but I gotta definitely show them that I'm making the changes necessary as well so they have a little bit of comfort and things with all this. It's unfortunate to get old, but what can you do? Just keep trying to do better. Kn6nus Hope you have a great super bowl jet. Thank you everyone. 73 to the net.
Speaker A: All right, Joshua, heal. Continue to heal. Dupa and do good here. You're a good guy. So I'm sure the kids are all in on helping remind you of what you can and can't eat if you tell them. Kn6n u m kw6u73. Good morning. Great. KO60H well, did we get an answer to that trivia question, who has the most Super Bowl r?
Speaker B: If you did, I didn't hear it. I was going to guess Joe Namath, but that's the only name that comes to mind.
Speaker A: It was not Joe Namath. I'm going to go ahead and tell you because we've gone through this question three times and nobody's gotten it. So it was Tom Brady. He's won seven and I don't think that should be a big surprise to any Patriot fan.
Speaker B: Yeah, in hindsight, that'd be the perfect answer. Anyway. Yeah, so gonna be watching the game, watching the commercials, taking notes, whatever. In the meantime, it's normal Sunday, so I've got laundry to do. We've postponed the chat with the kids till after the game just when I interrupted. And yeah, preparing for tomorrow is a boat day, so gonna be heading back down to the Bay Area and hopefully take the boat actually out out of the slip, around the harbor and back into the real slip. The prior owner and I have. We ended up with swapped slip assignments so we're going to correct that. So anyway, that's kind of the. Oh, and then last night was a star party. In spite of the clouds, they parted just about the right time and we got some good views of the sky. So I've got some processing to do. It'll be a busy day. KS60H back to you
Speaker A: you know, I've seen recently some advertisements for some electronic telescopes. I wonder how good they are by comparison to regular. They probably don't quite compare, but they're very interesting. New little technology coming.
Speaker B: I think you're referring to. There's a couple of them. Oh, one of them starts with a V. It's been after a couple years. Seastar is the most recent from Zwo Chinese company. They got a 50 and a 30. Now, referring to the size of the lens, they actually do surprisingly well. Little robot telescopes. You put them down on the picnic table, push the button, and they open up and they look around the sky and say, okay, I know where I am. You know, gps, hit the clock, get the location, match up the stars with the maps, and then you tell it, hey, go take an image of the Orion Nebula. And it goes, zip, zip, zip, and over there it is, and takes an image and it. It's what's called live stacking. They take really short images, like 10 seconds or less, and then stack them live. So the image kind of develops as you're watching on your tablet or your cell phone, whatever you got connected to it. It kind of develops in front of you. And it takes a little while to get a good image, but it's possible. It just takes a while. The setup that I've got will take the same images, but take them faster and. And I think a little better. Better color, better resolution, less noise, but it's all good. If you don't want to revel in the details of taking and processing images, just want to look at what's out there. Great solutions. They're not expensive. Like under $500ks 60h. Back to you.
Speaker A: Yeah, it seems like a pretty good solution for learning a little bit about the sky. I mean, there's just something really cool
Speaker D: about
Speaker A: light traveling thousands of light years away and actually hitting through the telescope, bouncing off the mirrors and hitting your retina. And there's something about that that just seems really cool
Speaker B: indeed. Yeah, not thousands, millions, millions of light years. The little galaxies and stuff that we look at are long ways away. And some of them, you know, Andromeda's only, what, a couple of million light years? Only a couple. But yeah, it's amazing stuff. There's. If you go on the NC Astronomers YouTube channel, there's actually a presentation on the Sea Star 50 by someone you probably know. I'll out him a little bit here. Mark, our president, actually has one of those. He gave a presentation on it about a year, year and a half ago. So I Recommend taking a look at it. He did a good job and it's a very interesting product. KS Th
Speaker A: Very cool. Sounds like. I'll take a look at that video. It's just some interesting stuff I saw recently and I thought of you. Well, very cool, I think. Sounds like you've got your day all planned out. You're going to watch the super bowl then. And are you able to get out broadcast or are you watching through the Internet?
Speaker B: I've got the minimum cable because I'm in a hole here, so I can't. I would do over the air but the only thing I'm getting is images of dirt and trees. So I can't get any of the over the air channels. But I think it's like Channel 3 is the NBC channel. You go to the website, you do a search for, you know, where do I watch the super bowl? And Channel 10 comes up and says, hey, here's all these Internet places. They don't quite mention that Channel 3 has it. But what's all the streaming, the other streaming options? Oh no, actually what they do is they. They also list all of the bars in the area that you can go visit and watch, you know, as you're. You're having a cold one.
Speaker C: So.
Speaker B: But yeah, I believe it's channel three. If I did my search right, that's the NBC channel and I think that's. If you have over the air, I think that's where it'll come up anyway. Yeah, we love watching that. And go. Somebody, I guess, yeah, kind of tried it on New England. So I'll leaning a little bit towards the Seahawks. KO60H.
Speaker A: All right, so go. Yep, go Seahawks for Greg. That sounds great, Greg. Hey, enjoy your day. Enjoy watching the super bowl, visit with the family and of course getting chores done along the way. Have a Great day, Greg.KO6th kW6 uh, All right, all. Hey, it's 9:47. Trim the rest of my Mandarin tree out there and maybe even a little bit of the orange tree. Yep. A little bit more garden kind of work, so.

Speaker B: See how it turns out. I'm just loading a few bullets for Tesla, see if they're any pin or not. Yeah, good deal. Okay. I'm just going through the gates here at my mom's place. I'm gonna see what's going on with her and see what. See what I can get done anyways, hopefully and get out of here and go get that PA done. Lee and I are planning on going up to the rocks next Monday because President's Day, so I'm trying to get some stuff fixed and ready to go before then. Anyways, I'll talk to you later. Thanks for the shout. N17D Las Vegas. Kk7dbi.

Speaker A: Hey, Ralph, how are you doing?
Speaker B: Doing good. What's up in your world?
Speaker A: Trying to set up
Speaker C: broadcastify
Speaker A: off of the Carla admin hub
Speaker C: and I must
Speaker A: have a typo or somewhere today. It's not working.
Speaker B: Looking for.
Speaker A: Looking for the typo.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker C: Okay.
Speaker B: Yeah, I never missed with that. There's a couple of. Couple of groups here in the area that do that every now and again, but it's kind of cool. You gotta. You have to get like a license or something, right? Like. Like some kind of annual subscription or. I'm thinking of something else.
Speaker A: Yeah, premium. 30 bucks a month.
Speaker B: I mean, $30 a year.
Speaker A: Yeah, I already had that. I just received the email back from broadcastifying. They sent me all of the information, But. Yeah, I missed the credentials. They sent me all the credentials. Yeah, it's kind of handy to have, you know,
Speaker B: people can listen to the
Speaker A: caller system via their home Internet.
Speaker B: That's why I run that scanner software at the house. Not all the time, but I run that every now and again. It's nice and nice touch around with it. But anyways, you're gonna watch the game later or jam the dog and play.
Speaker C: Yeah, I gotta.
Speaker A: I gotta find it on Fox Sports or something. I haven't even tried looking for it yet, but I guess I need to do that here pretty quick. I don't think.
Speaker B: Well, I could be lying. I could be lying to you. I don't know who the hell carrying it. I know. I think NBC is doing the Olympics there, obviously. Maybe this.
Speaker A: Well, I'm hoping to find it somewhere.
Speaker B: Okay, I just checked my Gemini thing here. Says it's on NBC, so I guess I was wrong. So whatever your NBC affiliate is, or peacock, whatever, they'll have it.
Speaker A: Okay, that's good to know. Thank you. Is there somebody else trying to come in? We're hearing some kerchunks one in here. What do you have going on?
Speaker B: You talking to me? Yeah. What. What are you up to? What are you doing? Well, went to the church this morning, went to the gym and did my. My weight to work out a little bit of car for about an hour and a half. And then my mom called me and said that she needs yogurt. So I run 45 minutes across town to go buy her a couple of things of yogurt. And now I'm heading back to the house, go grab a shower. And I was going to try to work on a BHFA today, but I'm not sure if I'm going to get to it now. But we'll see that's about it.
Speaker A: Okay. Well, that sounds like a nice quiet date.
Speaker B: I never did have a chance to mess around with those. Those macros to do that. Odd to do that telemetry and the commands for the controllers. Maybe I'll mess with that. Pretty straightforward like I said. Just wish there was a way like on the old controllers, you know, if you do. At least on the linkom controllers and I think the f. I don't know if the fcoms are the same. I know Tom and the guys use fcom. It's been such a long time since I used those. But on a link on. If a site's prefix is 80, all you do is go on any repeater on the network and do a pound eighty and it addresses that site and then you can do whatever code you want and that prevents, you know, if you have a common code to do like a temperature announcement, which we do all the codes in our mountaintops the same. That way you don't have. You don't have 20 mountaintops yelling at you to tell you the time. You know, it's addressed individually. Hard to believe that the All Star dudes haven't done that yet.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm still working on that whole COP COP command stuff. It's not passing through the. Passing through the All Star nodes like they need to. But I think eventually Tom and Jeff will. Fred maybe will get the porch opened up at the sites that have Supermon or that have All Star nodes.
Speaker B: Then I can go in there and
Speaker A: make those adjustments, pass the TTMF COP commands properly. It appears that each site has to have a copy of the COP command.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, our configuration, as you know, is a lot different. We're not running any L star nodes on the flights from Mount Cops, all RTCNs. The server, the Vulture server is one that has. Runs everything. So I've got it set up. I mean I can enter a macro on any of my repeater sites to, you know, take Carlo offline or take any link off. It goes into control operator mode and then issues a command and then goes back. That works. That works fine. My thing is getting. Getting DTMs, and that's on the mountaintop. My problem is getting DTMs through an all Star node like a clear node or somebody's running a Linux box at their house or what have you and getting that to talk to the server. That's what I'm trying to figure out.
Speaker A: I do know that you have to go to your allstarlink.org account and go
Speaker C: to that server page.
Speaker A: Allow yes or you Know, allow like remote.
Speaker B: I don't remember the verbiage, but it's.
Speaker A: I think it says remote phone. You have to allow that and then allow some other Internet. Some other Internet ordeal. Let me see if I can bring it up.
Speaker B: Yeah, I know what you're talking about. I've already done all that. I've done that on our Vulture server. And both of them, we got two servers that I use. I have a special one set up just for when we support the races and stuff like that so we don't bother the entire network. I just isolate one or two repeaters so they can do their high speed race twice a year. And I talked to one of the all star gurus, Tim, and he's one of the high. Whatever of the big brain guys on. And he even acknowledges. Yeah, that's just. There's just no way to do it unless you're going to build macros or like do those cop commands. Like I said, I was looking for something that was a little more flexible and dynamic.
Speaker A: Okay, very good. You're probably getting close to wherever you need to be, I would imagine.
Speaker B: I'm gonna get back to what I'm
Speaker A: doing here before I forget what I'm doing here. It's beer 30 here. It's 3:30 here, so beer 30 is upon us. And I'm gonna go offer the wife a beer, which is like a champagne type of thing that she loves. And I'm gonna grab myself a Ducati. All right, Ralph. Well, I'll be listening. Good talking to you. And if I get this working, I'll send you a text, let you know.
Speaker B: All right, man. Yeah, enjoy. Enjoy your beer 30. I'm more of a scotch guy, so I got a few hours for that. Yeah, I got about a half hour to go. She's just all the way east side of town. I live all the way in the northwest, so Vegas is quite a traffic challenge these days. All right, take care. M7T ending.
Speaker C: 7 TNB84LB. How's it going, Ralph?
Speaker B: Larry, good afternoon. Afternoon. We're here. I think I'm okay. Okay. Run some errands. Did some stuff today and trying to get back to the house and deciding if I'm gonna do some radio stuff or not. Anyway, how you doing out there? I'm doing good.
Speaker C: The weather's gotten warmer. That's a plus. I thought this was a DX weekend or some kind of contest weekend, but I haven't heard anybody on a contest, so that's all I've been doing besides going through all my music on my
Speaker A: phone,
Speaker C: getting a playlist together when I do my exercises. So that's pretty much it. And I heard you say you said you were headed back home, so nothing like going out running some errands on Sunday.
Speaker B: Yeah, I. I went to the gym, did my workout and had to run to the grocery store and get some stuff for my mom and take it over to her, so I have to head back home. So anyways, yeah, very good. Yeah, I'm not aware of any kind of a contest. I haven't really been looking. To be honest with you. I was. Haven't been on. HM that much lately, which is kind of a shame with the conditions being as good they are as. As they are. What kind of. I don't know if I. If I. I asked you and I forgot, but what do you. What do you got there as far as the tenants go for hf or do you have CC and RS and restrictions or can you pretty much do what you want?
Speaker C: I do pretty much what I want. I've got a Buckmaster 6 through 40 and I have 0543 foot vertical. And we have two acres here. The daughter, son in law and four grandkids live on one acre, you know, one part of it and we live on the other part. So their house is first, ours is second. And then behind us is where my antennas are and we're surrounded by a cat. You know, it's not a real big ranch. You get the smell of the cows and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker B: I've never smelled them.
Speaker C: They grow hay all year round or whenever they can, so it's really nice. But every time I turn a radio on, I have a 0 to f1 noise level that's as high as it.
Speaker B: Yep.
Speaker C: So I'm happy about that.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: Once you mentioned the Buckmaster, I remember you telling me about. Yeah, that, that's. That.
Speaker A: That's.
Speaker B: I hate you, man.
Speaker A: I mean, that is.
Speaker B: That is phenomenal. Zero to S1. Yeah.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker B: Here it's nuts. I mean, 75 meters at night it's S9, S8, S9 sometimes worse than, you know, 20, 20 meters depending on the time of day. It's like S5 to S. It's totally different. I remember a couple years ago, several years ago, a friend of mine lived up in Michigan in the UP and he's got. His backyard is literally right on the lakefront. And I took an IC7100 up there and I threw a wire up in a tree and turned it on. On 80 meters and it was like, that's zero, right? S1, maybe 20 meters. Was like, nothing. I'm like, crap, what is wrong? I'm sitting there trying to troubleshoot what's wrong with the antenna or looking around. I'm like. Then I went ahead and keyed it up and checked SWR and it was flat. I'm like, oh, my God. There's just no noise up here.
Speaker C: Yeah, it's amazing.
Speaker B: 890.
Speaker C: And every once in a while I need help with it. So I called this friend of mine, Northern California in 6 WIP, and we do FaceTime. And he's always saying, zero noise level. I hate you. You know, we. Sometimes I push the wrong button. I don't know where I am. But it's a nice radio. It's just unbelievable, the noise level. Sometimes I feel like the way you did, you know, it's just so quiet, thinking, oh my gosh, there's nothing out there. Then you turn around and bam, there's these signals just popping all over the place. I love it out here for radio reasons. And just being in a small town, takes us five minutes to go to downtown. And that's pretty much everything you want there. You know, there's a Walmart, there's some grocery stores, but we easily go to a different grocery store, Gunnersville. It's about 10 miles. It's like a Raley's, but it's called
Speaker B: Public.
Speaker C: That it's called. And I'm wondering if they're related or same company owns it. N7TND84LB.
Speaker B: That's great, Larry. I remember you told me you're not too far from Huntsville either. I think you said about a half hour or so. Buddy of mine, it works. Senior vice president for Scientific Research Corp. He's out of Huntsville. He was visiting last week. We talked about a couple of projects they're working on, had a nice dinner, got caught up on a few things.
Speaker C: And he was.
Speaker B: He loves it out there. He lived there for. Oh, geez, what are you telling me? 20, 30 years or so. And he goes there between a lot there between Huntsville and Atlanta. I guess one of their other offices is in Atlanta. Most of the time he spent in Huntsville. And that's just general area around Redstone
Speaker C: Arsenal and all that.
Speaker B: And loves it. I've been there several times, done business, and it's always been really, really pleasant. Traffic gets a little crazy every now and again for any larger metropolitan area. But I like the countryside. And people are so friendly, too.
Speaker C: Yeah, they are. Yeah. Hutsville can get a little crazy as far as traffic, but once you get on the south side of the bridge, the Tennessee river, it flows up and we don't have a lot of traffic here in Narap. But, you know, whenever you come out, just shoot me an email and maybe we can get together and get a bite or something like that if you have time. So, you know, that, that would be nice because I haven't seen you in, gosh, 20 years.
Speaker B: They're better. Yeah, I would guess that's probably right.
Speaker C: Not more.
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, no, I'll definitely do that.
Speaker B: Man, I'm not sure when I'm going to be out there again. I've got a. I had a design review. I was supposed to be out there
Speaker A: for the end of April, but it's
Speaker B: getting pushed to the right. But I know I'm going to be out there at least once or twice
Speaker C: this year and I'll.
Speaker B: I will definitely make time. Even if I just go ahead and spend my trip another night.
Speaker C: It's no big deal.
Speaker A: Okay.
Speaker C: Yeah, that would be nice. We'll get together and hang out and catch up.
Speaker B: So. Alrighty.
Speaker C: Well, I'll let you go and you mosey on home. It's good talking to you as always. 84 LD
Speaker B: yeah, same back at you, Larry. Always a pleasure hearing from you. Glad you're doing well.
Speaker A: N7TND Las Vegas clear.

N7 dry. N5 ea. N7 dry. You must have got it working. Yeah, it took a little bit of maneuvering around to try to figure it out. Yeah, seems to be working just fine. Now I have to get my HT program. I can sit outside in the lawn chair in the shade. Use it. Roger. Dad, what's going on with the truck that you got to have it in the shop? It developed a warning for low coolant light on the dash. But the coolant is at the proper level and doesn't overheat. I think it's some sort of sensor. Did a little bit of reading on it and I guess there's is like a float system or something in the tank that can come apart and causes the stay on. Okay. Yeah. Better get that fixed. Are you seeing a Vegas dealer or is there one in Peruvian? There's a performance diesel performance shop here that in Pahrump that Rob went to have his truck work done because his turbo went out. It actually went out before his trip and he went to a shop in address where he was stating at the time they talked him into putting a modulator system 32 link mod. It's the electronic device that operates the turbocharger from the vanes. It's a variable vane turbo. So anyway that device. So they changed that out and it worked for a while. Then it quit again. By the time he got to Corona he found this shop and they did a full tune up on his truck and let's just say they reduced some weight and replaced the turbo. And now he's getting better my race better performance. I don't know if I'll go that route but at least get this flight over. Well that's good. You got a shop that at least has a few references or at least one somebody that you know. Yeah. I guess I was thinking maybe the truck was under warranty but that's obviously not the case. You've had that for a while now. So where are you guys going? To watch the game. You're just gonna. They're in the trailer? Yeah, actually a little bit. I'm right now fixing some trim on the truck or working on it. I don't want to do it. It's pretty hot up on that roof of the truck. Let me find some shade here. But anyway, I guess that's 3:30 or so. 3:00 clock about an hour. I'm outside in the shade working on the trim. I gotta peel up all this double sided tape out of it, clean it with denatured alcohol. I've already Got the truck channel clean and I bought some 3M trim tape that I've got to cut to match. So I got quite a job ahead of me. Want to get it done today though, because I have to have the truck over to that shop by 10. However, this truck is under extended warranty. They haven't explored that yet, but have to see what the diagnosis is. And then I'll have to explore the extended warranty that I bought which goes to over 100,000 miles in seven years. We're rapidly approaching that hundred thousand mile mark. Well, I guess that was a good investment. Yeah, lots can go wrong on new rigs like that. So. Well, keep in touch as you're in the area. You saw my note about my system or the possibility of it anyway. And we'll figure something out on your way, way down or your way back or whatever. Yeah, actually we do plan to make of your way on the way back. I don't know. Haven't quite figured out what our next step is. We do have the gf so we're going to do a little bit of riding. If they have to keep the truck from all tomorrow, we've got this space till Wednesday with a possible extension to Friday if we have to. It took Rob over a week to get his truck done. But they were in a campground, a BLM camp. So they added that spot for, I guess, something like that. They only stayed until they got the truck done. And then they went down to a park, an RV resort on Lake Tabasoo, North. It's on the California side, north of Parker Dam. I'm not sure we want to go down there. We do, we do, but we haven't quite made that decision. Well, it's a good time to go before it gets too hot. This next week looks to be cool. In fact, I think it's gonna rain on Wednesday or Thursday. I gotta run over to St. George on Wednesday, but no big deal. I'm sure it'll get nice after that. So. Yeah, just keep in touch if you want to try your handy later. Just send me a note or something. I'll throw the antenna out on the patio for my other radio. Okay, I'll let you know. Yeah, I'm gonna get busy on this other project and I'll touch base with you. N7DRI. N5E.AA will be 73 on your final okie dokie. My baa. N7GRY and I'm going to go start getting ready for the game. I.
