Speaker A: Ak6vzd mobile w e6a x n receiver.
Speaker B: Yeah, I hear you out there, Paul. You're a bit staticky and not terribly loud. Good evening. Are you on? Are you home?
Speaker A: How's this?
Speaker B: Better?
Speaker A: Okay. The HD was on low power. I bumped it up. I'm doing all right. I'm glad today's work day is over. It was just real busy. I felt like a waiter at a restaurant.
Speaker B: Yeah, I can't say I was overly busy, but, you know, just little things that they, they keep changing. Just, just, you know, emphasize the fact that I'm glad I'm leaving.
Speaker A: Yeah, it sure sounds like. It sounds like they're turning things upside down and not something you'd want to continue to partake of willingly.
Speaker B: I'm not exactly sure I quite understand it, but there's some new scheme that they've got to go take care of. Service requests. Our old scheme was that there was somebody dedicated to, to our major locations and they were stationed there and they, you know, had made relationships with the people there and knew fairly thoroughly what was going on. We dropped. Now they've pulled everybody back to the government center and our just randomly assigning tickets to people just as a first come, first serve basis. You know, I guess it, it's like a rotation. Somebody gets a ticket and then the next open person gets a ticket and then the next person gets a ticket and, you know, so you have to. Half the time I, I look at what I got and I said, I haven't the slightest idea what to do. And I think it's the same way with everybody else.
Speaker A: It sure sounds like a mess there. Our IT departments in the county, they're in more central locations and they come over to our main office every day because they still put out some kind of data. Physical tape. Yeah, they have physical tapes that they switch out every day and whatnot. Other than that, I don't really see them unless I call them. And it's usually for some. Hey, can you add this printer or whatever? So I don't know how they do their ticketing thing, but seems to be better than that. But I'm not. I can't speak for the work site.
Speaker B: Be interesting to see the difference in. In operation between the two sounds. Well, I don't know. I can't say. We used to have pretty much everything based on local servers. And in the past few years they've gone and thrown everything towards the cloud, everything including backups, which means they don't have to do the tape roundup like it sounds like your guys are still doing.
Speaker A: The only problem is when that person that owns the cloud decides that they're gonna. Or they're gonna get hacked. Not that they're going to get hacked, but probably when. Hopefully not. Actually one of the. One of our IT or information technology specialists is in. What they call him is a ham. I don't know, he might be listening. I don't have his call sign written down in that word somewhere, but yeah, that was kind of cool to find out.
Speaker B: Yeah, I ran into a ham from Sacramento the other day at church. Found out that he's in. He's. He's in broadcasting. And it's like, well, you're the first must be a ham if you're in broadcasting. But he just doesn't do much with it. He said he's been a ham, oh, I don't know, for about 20, maybe a little bit more than that, years now. But like, well, okay.
Speaker A: Probably got it just so he can say he has it and use it when he wants, but probably doesn't like getting on the radio when he's been on the radio at work all day.
Speaker B: Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Well. Well, I, I got choir practice tonight and I've just arrived, so I gotta find myself a parking spot and get myself inside. So I will talk to you later. Have a good evening and we'll catch you later. 73 KK6VZV clear.
Speaker A: 73 Chris KO6VZY all declared as well.

An announcement for the Net. I'd like to remind you all that the. The Wildflower bike ride sponsored by Chico Velo is coming up. Let me see. I think that's April 26th and I'm looking for volunteers. And I'll tell you what, I've already had about 212 folks from last year volunteered to cover their positions this year. Really appreciate it. So I'll be sending out the notice later this week soliciting volunteers from folks who have not volunteered last year. And we still have quite a few positions to fill both at rest stops and at funky turns on the course and at and driving SAG as well. So anyway, that's it for me. Look for that mail kn6tww back to control. Right, Jamie, thank you. K6K's next and I don't have anything to say besides my voice made up last night. Ko6ncx. Larry. Good evening, Lester and the rest of the Net. This is Larry. KF6NCX. Well, a couple of things. Last weekend was the ARRL International DX contest. A great contest because all the foreign countries that are participating, all those hams and other countries can only work Americans and Canadians. So they're all looking for us. Jevin came up and, and we operated, took turns operating with one radio and propagation seemed really good. And we put in about. We put in almost 28 hours and made 720 QSOs. So we. I think that's probably our best score to date in that event. We had a good time. It was a lot of fun. Lots of. In the afternoon, Saturday afternoon, the Japanese stations were. Were coming in on 15 and 10 meters and they Just kept coming and even into the night and 20 stayed open and it was really good. But I don't know about the future now. Maybe Bill KC6UFE will have some thoughts on this. But I subscribe to this thing called space weather. I get an email, maybe not every day, but often. And today it came and it said that we've had the first spotless sun days since 2022. For the last four years it said there's been non stop sunspot activity, but suddenly the sun has no spots. And what this said, what this message said was this is a sign that the solar minimum, although it's still a distant phenomenon, it's this indicates that it's starting to approach even though it's far away. So that's not so encouraging. Okay, Lester, back to you. This is Larry, KF6NCX. All right, Larry. And just as a side note on no sunspot in the past when there's been very, very little or almost none. I just been pretty bad weather struck the across the world. All right, Bill, you're up next. KC6 UFC. KC6UFE. Yes, indeed. No sunspots right now, but not to worry, you know, the leopard can't change its spot so they'll be back in short order. They're probably all hanging out on the other side. So yeah, we're slowly creeping up on the solar minimum, but not quite here yet. And Thursday night, around 11:30, maybe a few minutes before to a few minutes after, the cargo container is going to come off the space shuttle and run right down the west coast and it's going to drop into the ocean down by Oceanside. But it just enters the atmosphere to the west of us and you can see it and it's quite spectacular. So if you're up and the skies are clear, it's certainly worth a look. So back to net. KC6UFE. Hey Bill. Thank you. And that's the list of my habits. Is there anyone else wishing to check in before we close? Do we have anybody who wants to say anything before we close? Six ncx? Go ahead, learn. Yeah, I just like to ask Bill for a little more explanation of what he was just talking about that will be so spectacular if we want to stay up late and the skies are clear, something is going to fall off the space, the space station. Can you tell us, Bill, back to net control, this is Cav6NCS. Go ahead, Bill, if you got an answer on that. I got an answer. Casey6Ufe yeah, it reminds me one time I was listening to my scanner out in front of the airport, Santa Barbara, and the Continental airline took off. And he radioed back to the tower and said, what was that? That fell off the front of my plane. So I heard that. Anyway, the cargo. The cargo ship has unloaded and it's going to disembark Thursday night at around 11.30pm and come back in towards the planet and land in the ocean. And it enters the atmosphere just to the west coast of us and then it's going to run down the coast. And the plasma bloom that it creates is really spectacular. I mean, it is something to see on the order of what it looks like when that space shuttle blew up. So. But it's not a bunch of pieces, it's one big one. So that's the way I'm that story I'm telling back to net KC6UFE. Okay, thank you, Bill and anybody else. All right, this concludes the building Empire Amateur Radio Society Net. And I'd like to thank everybody who checked in tonight and invite you back next week. This is KG6KUO returning to W6 rec repeater to its normal monitoring service. This Net's closed in 20, 19, 45. Speaker A: Oh yeah, crazy hum going on there. Is it you or is that going to be the. Is that 25 doing that?
Speaker B: Yeah, it's 25. It's right next to a 10,000 watt transmitter and doesn't have all of 20 is in the same situation but it's 20 has top had added a lot of filtering. I don't know if you've ever seen the photo of all the shielding that's inside that box but shielding.
Speaker A: Yeah Bernie.
Speaker B: Right. Because when 20, when we put the Motorola the 20 it just went absolutely out of its mind with the interference. I don't know why it was so much more prone to interference than the old transmitter but it was and it just slipped out completely. So little by little he figured out that it needed this shielding. Quite elaborate bunch of shielding over every external wire and just over a hole. Lot of different things. Especially though the ctcss, you know every, every transmitter has two compact sub audible tone CTCSS system in a box on the side and they have to have
Speaker A: be completely shielded at that transmitter.
Speaker B: And I'm sure that's the same situation at 25. It's just not gone completely bonkers. So he was able to just leave it like it was.
Speaker A: It needs some shielding oil and braiding elbows.
Speaker B: Would you tell me that again? Cat 8.
Speaker A: Cat 8 cable, I think it is. Don't they have eight twisted pairs shielded with foil and
Speaker B: braid?
Speaker A: Can that be used for some of that equipment? Probably.
Speaker B: But he's gone with the same thing that he used at every single Carla transmitter. He just used the same wire and then he made his. He designed his own shielding. He bought this kind of pricey silver plated shielding and ran the wires through it, which I'm kind of wondering, you know, if maybe it could have been wrapped rather than having the wires disconnected and ran through it like that. But that's what I would try to do at 25 is wrap them because it's uninsulated silver plated sealed wire. Why not, you know, why not wrap it?
Speaker A: Yeah, you know I got you. I had a roll of Cat 8. I left it. I gave it to somebody. I may have even given it to you.
Speaker B: I don't know.
Speaker A: When I move down here I want to find another roll of it. I'm getting RF interference RFI into some of my radio nodes down here. I want to redo, redo some of it using some Cat 8 to help clean it up. Well besides all that, how's everything going up there? Did you get another onslaught of weather here yesterday, the day before
Speaker B: 24 hours, over 2 inches of rain. Everything is pretty well, buddy. A lot of water running around here. I don't know if any of the local people down in the valley were flooded again like they were last time when Redding. Flooded, swamped all the cars. Had cars floating around in the streets and stuff. I don't know if that happened. I don't think so.
Speaker A: Oh, okay.
Speaker B: Oddly enough,
Speaker A: it looks like shaping like it. Well, it's only down. Went down what, 28ft? That's not too terrible.
Speaker B: 28ft of snow or what? I'm not sure I understand.
Speaker A: The water level of Shasta Lake. I'm sorry? Yeah, I'm talking about Shasta Lake.
Speaker B: The of water level. It did come up quite a bit
Speaker A: just in the last. 30.
Speaker B: 20.
Speaker A: Let's see.
Speaker B: I don't even know.
Speaker A: I'm trying to find the scale here. Oh, it's just. Yeah, just the last 72 hours, the water level came up. Looks like it came up about four feet.
Speaker B: Well, yeah, it. What probably happened. I. You know, I don't have Internet right now, so I can't tell you if it did. But what probably happened was, was that it was localized like it has been in the past, where it hit Wiscon national park and everything. Just a little bit south of it, which is where I am. It could be that that's where all the biggest rain hit. And that could be why. Why it's the way it is. By the way, I did find my Wilson cradle that. You know, I'm supposed to put my cell phone in this cradle and then attach an antenna to the cradle. It's a system that really worked well in the past. So I did find it, and I might have Internet.
Speaker A: Okay, well, don't forget somewhere there you have that. You have that big old. That big old long yogi for high frequencies. I think it was 900 to 1800 megahertz or something. Unless you found a home for it. All right, well, I'll let you go and good to hear you. Yeah, it's a shame about 25. It's. Sometimes it's quiet, sometimes it's noisy. All right, you take care. I'll talk to you later. N6 kne.
Speaker B: I think it has to do with SWR on the broadcast gas transmitter that that gets into. Gets into 25. I think when there's SWR on the antennas from being iced up. They snowed. Have snow on them then they say ESWR causes RF on the coax, and the coax radiates into the equipment inside the shack that's my. My gap. By the way, I'm transmitting on a VGC N76, which is a really cool little aprs portable. And, yeah, I'm really happy to be able to. I had misplaced it and I found it. I've got it going. I've been going through a whole lot of things, so I'm find space. All right, talk to you later. N6 GRT. Stay. Stay cool.
Speaker A: Yeah, no problem. Currently 77 degrees. All right, talk to you later. Six kn.

Speaker A: All right, I'm back. Damn. Nothing's going on here. Not really, anyway. Got up this morning, the house was warm. Still haven't had to put wood on there. I'm going to start cutting my firewood that way. Eight inch tall piece. Don't split it. Just put the whole round in there sideways. Wood burns a lot longer if you go with the grain instead of traditional way against the
Speaker B: grain. It burns up too fast. Oh, yeah, and less.
Speaker A: So you can stack one on top of the other. No, I just on the rounds that are that big around, you know, if you're limb wood and. And you know, if it's up to 12 inches across, then you got to make more cuts. If you want 8 inches instead of 15s or 17s.

Speaker A: Yep. I got a pile of laundry sitting on the floor. Lori washed it this
Speaker B: morning.
Speaker A: I
Speaker B: think she does that to get me out of bed.
Speaker C: Yeah, we do that on Saturday mornings.
Speaker A: When that. And this washing machine's got the fastest spin cycle I have ever heard. Sounds to me like the back bearing needs to get greased or replaced. So that, that's the only thing I got on the agenda. I could finish the air box. We'll see. I've been putting that off. I did mount, I did mount your thermostat control on there. I just got one more pipe to glue in there and then drill a hole for the, for the tube coming out of the box. Actually, I only have two and I'm debating, I'm. I'm going through a change up. I'd like to have 12 inch pipe coming out of that air box. Did you hear me talking, telling Terry this morning? I didn't want to argue with Larry. I just don't talk to him because he has the same argument about the air box and too much trouble. And it's easier just to put a new fan in it. But Terry stepped in for me and said they haven't made fans for that for the alpha units in over 10 years. So there isn't any to just go buy. Plus you have to unsolder at least three flat wire, you know, quarter inch wide. Ribbon, not wire. It's not flex, it's. It's tin or whatever it is silver from the inductor, you know, and that changes, that changes how it tunes itself. Yeah, I know it doesn't tune itself, but that changes the tuning and I don't want to screw it up. So this is a way to get around that. If I could get the stock fan. I've been wanting to do an air box for a long time. I'm thinking about running a 2 inch pipe out of the air box up and along the back of the bench in the L shape right there. So if I want to get air to anything, I just drill the size of hole. I need air off that tube, you know,
Speaker C: then I don't have four
Speaker A: 1 inch tubes which by the time you get the thickness of the tube, it's almost two inches. It's an inch and three quarters on the outside of that clear tubing.

I know. Yeah. Hardly anybody comes over anymore. Yeah. And then you damn near got to help them out of their seat to get them to leave. Well, they shipped, they shipped the 150 yesterday and I don't know if it's coming from Amazon or not, but it is in route. And guess what? I sent back that 120. Of course, you know that yesterday. So I don't have anything right now. I actually have. I actually have the, the one that you saw here, the 150 manual pull down, but the one with the electric motors and all that in it. Trevor is going to be here on Wednesday next week, so hopefully it gets here and I can get it up so he can see that mammoth dog. So check this out. I was looking on Amazon yesterday and I seen these brackets that you bolt to the wall that hold the screen out away from the wall up to 12 inches. They got a six inch bracket. They bolt it right to the stud so. Or you can just bolt it to the ceiling and let it hang down. But then I'll lose six inches. Plus the, plus the unit. The unit. And you know that that pull down model's got a relatively small box around it. The electric one is twice the size so I don't know if I can afford to give up six inches from the roof. And I tried putting the projector behind the couch and it's not happy with it. 13, 13 and a couple inches is the furthest they want the projector from the screen. You can put it as close as. You can put it as close as 3ft but. And not more than 13ft which will work good in the RV. But. Yeah, I wish I had a research that part of it better. I would have loved to put it in the cabinet behind the back wall. I moved the couch back three feet. Front room is huge now, but that's where I'm at anyway. So it looks like I'm stuck with the projector being in front of the couch. I haven't even read the book yet and you could be right. But I put it back on the subwoofer which is about what, a little more than four feet high? That'll. That'll ask. The projector will actually clear me sitting at head height so it won't be a part of the picture if it's behind you. And it kept sniveling about the auto focus thing. So they call it something else. Spatula or whatever. So anyway. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I almost ordered another stand screen but. But the 200 inch and I should probably Go with the full full screen. But I'll have to measure the garage door in case we ever do any outside stuff in the summertime at night. Then I could really play with the. Just a bummer to buy a screen only to return it if it doesn't work. Since I already did that once, I really don't want to keep doing that to them. But if it was outside that would really give you a better. A better shot at it. I think the 150 is plenty big for the front room though and. And that's just going to come down out of the ceiling so it won't be in the way all the. So I was going to send you these things soon as I find them. Should be right here. I'm going to back up and I'll send you these things. I could just go down to the metal shop and I could. I could go down to the metal shop and. Oh, I can't find it. I can't find those brackets now or otherwise. I'd send it to you, see how to show you how those work. Pretty. Pretty good actually. Oh, found them. I'll send it to you. Pictures worth a thousand words. 12 inch and 6 inch and they're cheap. 22 bucks. Nicely made. Adjustable. Yeah, to those end things. But you know what? Somehow I know I look for videos and couldn't find it like that. Pull down one. It's only attached on the ends and that's what these brackets are for. I'm pretty sure that next one is going to be. You have to screw the box and then put the whole mechanism and screen up inside the box. In that case I can hit all the studs. At least two in the middle somewhere.

I don't think any of them do. It's not smart. I watched two video. I mean, I. I read lots of reviews, and two reviews, the person didn't like how slow it went up. And I watched a video of how fast it does go up. There's nothing fast about it, but it's not that slow either.

Speaker A: Well, we got a new update on the Apple phone. You'll probably like that. Okay, here's this. Ad. Yeah. So see if it did it and then I'll send this to you. Keep original size. There it is.
Speaker B: And it's coming at you. Yeah, I told
Speaker A: you about that. I, I told you what to click in there. There's two of them on YouTube. One's a little more in depth. So it tells you exactly how they get inside your phone. And you can see how easy that is. Say you're sitting down at Starbucks and some guy sits behind you and you got your phone in that deal. He, he could pitch that same little thing to you to get your phone to come on. You'd click on that and have second. But. And you know, we don't have anything to hide for the most part. So, you know, most people don't give a poop, but it could be detrimental when it comes to an officer like that. That one video I watched, he was asking the chick he just pulled over, where are you coming from? And they were in a high dope area. See? And so if you think the cops being a weirdo, you just got to keep him in his, his own lane. You can ask me questions about the pulling over or anything to do with this, the ticket that you haven't written me yet, but otherwise I don't answer any questions and I don't agree to searches, so can I leave? That's what. Those are the key things. I don't answer questions outside the scope of being pulled over. And, and I don't allow searches. You need a warrant for that, and that shortens up the amount of time. And that's supposed to shut them down about peen in your phone and looking at what they can see on your phone too, telling them I don't answer questions, that you're pretty much invoking your fifth amendment and so they shouldn't gather information. But that video, if you watch the same one I did, says as long as your phone's casting it, you're giving them permission.

Speaker A: Yeah, never, never click on none of those apps that says always on. You always want to put only when in use, only when you're using the apps that they have permission. So yeah, do, do, do. Otherwise there is the inconvenience factor which is that you have to go to settings. If you do want to use your GPS to go someplace, then it then it's collected information that can be transmitted if the cop knows how to do it. And believe me, it just hasn't caught on yet. They you know how I found that stuff? It's because I was looking at that iPhone 17 and that's where I found about those things that are
Speaker B: happening nowadays. I wasn't clear
Speaker A: on that, but I did read that or I mean I heard it and I would and I was still memorizing the other five things that you got to do five times. Then how do you unlock that.

2026-02-25 15:23:40 UTC 45.7s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

I watched a video yesterday where they caught that chick, a little overweight, highway patrol, breaking the law. And then she got caught lying about it. Said there wasn't any video and there was and. Yeah, so she resigned after the program was over. At the very end, the guy came on saying that that officer had resigned as of 2024 or whatever. And all those incidents were being reported about since 9. Yeah, 2022. Is that the one you watched?

2026-02-25 15:24:53 UTC 46.3s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Nope. They took that away from them to security clearance. And so when you go apply at another police report department or whatever, they'll see that. So, you know, at least when it comes to cops, Jay, they do look into your background. Hell, they put you through a psych test. So if you can't get past that and your past history, you ain't gonna be a cop anyway. And I agree with you. All these politicians getting a slap on the wrist. Wrist? That's bullshit. They should be held, if anything, to a higher standard. A higher standard than regular citizens.

2026-02-25 15:26:03 UTC 168.2s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: As soon as I detect that, I request another officer and then I cooperate a little more fully with the second officer. I'm still standing on my ground. Don't. Don't try to play games on me. Otherwise there'll be two of you. And when there's two of them, and if they're good buddies, it doesn't do you a bit of good at all. But if, if they're not, you got a chance. Because the other cop's not gonna pull hunky dory semi getting by stuff because his, his name's on the line too. So I've had good luck with that. That and the fact that letting them know that, hey, I filled out lots of Ritza habeas corpuses, that stays on their record forever. So I've had that work for me and against me. So I went to jail on one of those. And when I got to the jail, I requested a writ of habeas corpus, but they wouldn't deliver it. So your rights go away when you're in the jail, at least while you're there. So no big deal. I filled one out on them when I got out. Down to the courthouse, get the paperwork. Fill it
Speaker B: out, guy. Remember you forever. Well, they put that 14 switching
Speaker A: gears. They put that 14 instead of the 16, the one I want for $199. And I couldn't find where that one. They left out diesel just like they did on the 16 there. It just says what the 16 says. It doesn't actually say diesel. If that 14 did diesel, I might settle for that. But right now I don't mind waiting. I know I'll kick myself in the butt if I settle for a 14
Speaker B: when that 16 is just around the corner. That end up costing you
Speaker A: 300 bucks. Well actually the truck gets better fuel mileage than that. I'll be right back. I gotta let the dog out. Man, this dog is. She's got a built in clock that don't stop. She knows I don't let her out till 7, 30, 7, 28. She's sitting right here looking up at me like it's time.

Speaker A: Oh yeah, I wouldn't trust it with six feet. I'd already been pulling it down the road. But if they're six feet, you ain't going to tow it anyway. Well, I'll play it safe. I'm going to build a thing this summer for it anyway. I just soon have
Speaker B: a real roof over. They match them up with the
Speaker A: Airstream, a similar model. It wasn't a applin, but yeah, it's up there. See the Airstream, if they don't put solar panels in those self retracting awnings and, and all the other stuff, you can put the Starlink thing and all that stuff. If you clutter up the roof too much on a, on an Airstream, you don't get the benefit of the rounded roof and the snow sliding off. But yeah, most people that buy those got a place to put them anyway. You don't see those sitting out in somebody's yard all year round. Not Rod, not very often anyway. And I've seen some, I've seen some air streams that definitely came out of the early 60s, maybe late
Speaker B: 50s that were still working. They. Wait, they weigh too much.
Speaker A: Jay. Two axle, £8,000. No way. I like this deal here. You don't even know this thing's behind you. All right, I talked your ear off enough for this morning. I think I'll go catch up on the news a little bit. I gotta call John too. I don't feel like going down there today, but I probably will go down there tomorrow, maybe go eat breakfast with you or something. And I probably should do that today and go down there after
Speaker B: breakfast tomorrow. I don't know if that
Speaker A: £8,600 is all ready to go with water and all that stuff and every, all your junk in it. I'll bet you that's just a dry weight. 8,600. That's a lot of tire squish. Watch the thing too, where they put 16 inch rims on it. They thought that made a little difference. Yeah.

Speaker A: Ai6us okay, good morning folks. We are running on the backup receiver here in Auburn, California. Sorry about the delay there and stand by.
Speaker B: Good morning and welcome to the coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater located in Auburn, California. The coffee break Net. Where the sun is always shinin', the birds are singin and the fish are jumpin'. This net is sponsored by the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club in Northern California. And we're here every day of the week from 7:30am to 10:00am Pacific Time. Please welcome your net control host and conversation facilitator for today's Coffee break net, Brian AI6 us checking in from beautiful Meadow Vista, California. Let's get the Coffee breaknet underway. Good morning everyone.
Speaker A: Good morning everybody. Yes indeed. I have to apologize. My beautiful British co host here was coming into the studio carrying my coffee. She tripped over some wires, unplugged a bunch of stuff and. No, I'm just kidding. Good morning. We are on a backup receiver in Auburn, California this morning. So just do apologize for the delay as we were just trying to do some troubleshooting here. We had a jammer on last evening for a number of hours that we were tracking down and I think I may have had a little hangover on the system this morning. So good morning to everyone. I'm Brian Ai6u. S beautiful Northern California. And let's go through the national days and then I'm going to take some quick in and outs as we start our morning. Today is inconvenience yourself day. Yes. A reminder to put others first today and go out of your way to help. Today is also let's all eat right today. Eat like a king, eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. Yes indeed, let's all eat right today. But life is all about decisions. Today is also national Chocolate Covered nut day. Today is Quiet day. Taking a pause and appreciating the sound of silence. Maybe that's how we started out. The net this morning. Be very, very quiet. All right, I'm going to put a call out first for local RF stations or local stations in Northern California. We're going to get you in the log first and then we'll go out to the Internet connection. So if you were coming in on the W6ek repeater or the W6GRC repeaters, come on in now. Let's get you in for a quick in and out as you start your day. Anyone in Northern California. Good morning Brian. KB6SSN.
Speaker C: Helo 11-6- whiskey, quebec uniform kn6wq20 rank.
Speaker A: All right. Out of that big kerfuffle I heard two stations, KN60, WQ. Good morning, Dan. And good morning to Tom, KB6SSN, RF stations, you may need to run a little higher higher power this morning because we are on the backup receiver who was in the kerfuffle. Oscar 6 Hotel Juliet was in that.
Speaker D: I in and out.
Speaker A: Good morning, Ron, Ka6uai and good morning to Larry, K06ihj. And there was a couple more stations involved in the Northern California kerfuffle
Speaker E: November 6th. Charlie, Kilo, Victor.
Speaker A: Good morning, Carl. And probably one or two more stations in the kerfuffle. We'll sort it out. All right. Maybe that other station is not running the correct PL tone because I did hear him coming in under Carl. All right, so that's all the folks coming in from Northern California at this time. Let's go ahead and open it up and see. These are quick in and outs. Anyone coming in through all Sar Echo link.

Did I miss anyone coming in through the Internet? All right, if you couldn't fit your carrier in that big gap. Good morning. Let's head up to the top. Just a reminder, these are quick in and outs. Let's keep our quick in and outs. Quick in and out under two minutes please. I'm going to be running the soft egg timer this morning. Good morning, Tom. KB6SSN Good morning, Brian. I'll keep it short here. Yes, sorry to hear about the troubles with the repeater. Hope you get all that fixed. I'm sure you will. And I just had to chuckle this morning. You know, I live in one of those neighborhoods. Early in the morning you'll see the folks out walking and exercising and walking their dogs and that seems perfectly normal until you see them doing it in the rain. And then you have to wonder what the level of dementia is that we're dealing with here or they are so driven to be fit. Yes, indeed. I yeah, I'll walk or I'll run if there's a bear yet. Those are pretty good conditions for. Hey, I understand entirely. Anyway, nothing scheduled today. It's going to be an off day. Going to relax, watch some movies all that kind of fun stuff. Have a great day. 73kb6ssn. All right, Tom, you have a wonderful day as well. Thanks for checking in this morning. Hey, Good morning, Dan. KM6WQ.
Speaker C: Good morning, Brian. And this is K6WQ. No, I been running out of power lately with my. My vest here. So I've been running a 20. 20,000. 20,000 milliamp hour battery. Then I went and said, you know what? Screw that, I'm gonna go pick or go home. So I picked up a 90amp. 90,000amp hour, I should say. Then that thing is like a brick. It's just way too big. So I'm like, okay, well, I was hopping to shop around Amazon and they were selling these 50,000amp hour batteries, which is still pretty big for like 29 bucks. So, like a really good deal because I remember paying like almost 100 bucks for the 90amp hour one. So I thought that was a pretty good deal.
Speaker A: So we're going to run that to
Speaker C: the end of vest and see how that works. It's bigger than the 20,000amp hour, but it's definitely able to work around it. Anyway, gonna call the AC company again today. The technician came out yesterday, the one that helped install it, just playing with some stuff, trying to figure some things out, just kind of get his head kind of what's going on here. So we're gonna call them and find out what next they want us to do. And, you know, gonna kind of leave it in their hands from here on out. Because if we don't want to mess up too many things and dry too many stuff. Although we might be pulling some Freon out a little bit here and there. Just kind of seeing, you know, like maybe 6 ounces at a time or something. Maybe see if that will help in making this thing work better. Because we think that the manufacturer suggested, you know, Freon, maximum limit or whatever may be a little bit off. Especially after they pulled us the wrong idiot in the first place. That was a fiasco. Anyway, Brian, thanks for running the net today. This is Dan Six tips.
Speaker A: Yeah, definitely does sound like a fiasco there. Hey, Dan, I think you know, the way you're describing this heated vest with all these batteries strapped on, one thing comes to mind. Terrorists. Can you do this?
Speaker C: No, because if I do that, I won't be able to talk anymore.
Speaker A: Hi.
Speaker D: Hi.
Speaker A: Okay, well, you know, watch out. Too big a battery strapped on for that heated vest. Lay in a mud puddle. Might be the last we hear of Dan. Good luck on that H vac. System. How frustrating. But I'm sure you know you'll get heat before summer.
Speaker C: Yeah. Because the air conditioner runs just fine. So there's that. All right, Brian, thanks for running that. This is KN6WQ everybody. Have a great day.
Speaker A: All right. Very good, Dan. You have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking in. Good morning Larry. K06IHJ Watch out for the guy in the big heated vest with battery strapped to it. Good morning Brian. Good morning Cock breaknet. Sorry to hear you're having problems. I was listening to it last night when you running around there out and this past the second turnout of the roundabout in Auburn I saw you. So if you need any help with
Speaker F: anything on that side, you know I
Speaker A: got a pretty big boy. I can take care of those problems for you.
Speaker C: Yeah, I.
Speaker A: It was raining last night, it was dark. I headed out with my fox hunting gear and just as we were starting to narrow down where the jammer was, the signal dropped and we actually from the judging from the sound of it and the way it failed, it sounded like the PA went out on the radio. So I doubt it was intentional. But I don't think that radio has finals anymore. Just hope. I mean. Oh, that's too bad. Other than nothing you heard from Tom we're gonna give me a break today. No mad scientist work. So hey, I'm gonna watch the movies too and kick back at the not so damp side of the door. Cause I can't do anything out there. It's just lots of wet grass. So I'm gonna kick back and do nothing. Sounds like a good hope to day plan. Thanks for running that Brian. Hang in there. K06IHA73 have a blessed day everyone. All right. Enjoy the right side of the door on a day like this. Larry, thanks for checking in. Hey, good morning Ron. Ko6ka6uai good morning.
Speaker D: Good morning K6ua you got me just in time. It's. It's not quite dog pill time but that will be coming up in, in moments but I just wanted to check in sitting on my desk for a little while and oh you know it's time to back off from the emails and do a little shopping. So do for a minute and then the, the Alexa device will go off and remind Max and I that it's bill time. So run out there and do that. But it's going to be another work day today it looks like and not, not much else going on. So anyway I'll be listening in K6Uai have a great day everyone. Seven three.
Speaker A: All right, Ron? Yes indeed. Dog pill time trumps the coffee break net. I made a note in my log there, Ron. Isn't it interesting how we shop nowadays? You have a Wonderful day ahead. K A6UAI AI6US. Let's check in with Carl. N6CKV. Good morning.
Speaker E: Good morning Brian and everyone else out there. Well, the repeater gremlins are at it. The River City main repair down due to a controller issue. It went down last Wednesday, so repeater gremlins are at it.
Speaker A: And I'm starting an eight session class
Speaker E: on pain management this afternoon.
Speaker A: Class on pain management. Tell me a little bit more about that. So do they talk diet, exercise, what do you expect?
Speaker E: I don't know, I haven't started it. It's got a worksheet and they talk about how pain is transmitted to the brain and how to interrupt it. So I don't know what we're going to cover, Brian.
Speaker A: Well, please let us know. And yeah, I certainly hope that that helps. The implant that you had for the electronic implant for the patient control, how is that doing for you? It's working.
Speaker E: It's down about 30 to 40% pain and I've got to do it until
Speaker A: the end of March so it'll have
Speaker E: some more time to work on me.
Speaker A: Oh, that is awesome. That is awesome to hear. Well, good. Well yeah, let us know what these classes involve and maybe we can pick up some tips for, for the things in life that we deal with as well. But good morning to you and good morning to Ruth and do have a wonderful day. And yes, the gremlins. Gremlins definitely seem to be out in force. Who gave them what? Who got them wet after midnight?
Speaker D: Right,
Speaker C: yeah.
Speaker E: By the way, you were Simplex last night and I could copy you here. Anyway, I'll say 73 to Zen 60kV everyone have a good Wednesday.
Speaker D: And hi to Lynn,
Speaker A: that is very interesting. We have these little slots that we can get out to different parts of the valley and on Simplex from me to you, that's pretty, pretty darn good. You have a wonderful day. And Good morning to Ruth N60KV AI6US73. Good morning Frank. KG6NLW
Speaker F: Good morning Brian. And that. Sorry to hear about those gremlin. They seem to be everywhere these days. But if what you said is true, maybe there'll be a little few out there.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker F: Who fed them after midnight? Brian? That's a very good question. I or fed him and got him wet. Yeah.
Speaker C: The duality of it.
Speaker F: I cannot talk to morning. It's been a long night. Not much going on in chile. Plymouth. We're 41 degrees currently and the highest 48 today. But I'll be asleep so it doesn't really matter. As usual, streaming on YouTube and other social medias. And tonight, tomorrow night, tomorrow night, Thursday night, the NorCal swap has a big announcement. So if you're able to come on by at 8pm Pacific time, that's 0400 Zulu. Come on by and find out on the live stream or on the N6ICW repeater. What's going on with that, Brian? I think that's it and I'm gonna crawl into bed and see what gremlins will put me to sleep there. So yeah, I was starting to worry after about two minutes this morning. That's why I text you and then you popped up with on the All Star side. So there you have it. AI6US, KG6NLW with the coffee breakneck. Good morning.
Speaker A: All right, Frank. Well, good morning to you and yes, the problem that we have is an 8 o' clock call on Thursday evening is drawing people away from the net that we want them to attend for our club. So I have mixed feelings. I know you've been established for years at that time slot, but hopefully we can keep people into our club net. Good morning. You have a wonderful day and yes, we are plagued by the GPS gremlin again this morning, so we're bringing back up the voter system here in a few minutes. KC6NLW AI6US. You have a wonderful day there, Frank. And good morning to Jamie. KO6MJL. Good morning. Good morning Brian and Annette. There ain't much going on here in the artichoke capital of the world to be here in the cubicle running numbers. And I've got something out there for Darren. Keep it vertical. Don't pull those muscles. 73K06 MJO. All right, well, thank you for dropping in this morning and you have a wonderful time and oh yeah, the good old days of the cubicle. Now I'm only content by the walls of my house. Working from home. Still feels like a cubicle once in a while though. You have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking in Claire and Jamie and let's check in with Mark now. N2IU, your call sign kind of caught my attention because very close to a call sign of my Elmer and Silent Key Elmer when I first got into the hobby al ni2u. So yeah, your call sign just kind of made me sit up and take notice. Good morning, Mark. N2IU.

Speaker A: This is mark in 2iu. Very interesting, interesting about your Elmer and the call sign. Actually I'm in Chandler, Arizona so I'm coming through the All Star node. I think it's in Texas but not definitely not on the east coast. But I'm from upstate New York and my long long time call it was originally wn2 mub. So anyways I stuck with the two actually I have a new All Star node here and I have a new two new things, new All Star node and a new cheap Chinese radio baofeng mini handheld. So I haven't tweaked any audio settings or anything. Plugged it all in and got it all working. So wondering how that's sounding. And then also interesting commentary about pain management there. I'm actually doing a seven day trial right now with a spinal cord stimulator which has been interesting and tingling I should say. But anyways, how does it sound? Brian, this is N2AU
Speaker B: Will. I'm getting a little packet loss on the side. I doubt that has thing to do with you. But yeah, the audio, it sounds fine. Nothing really detectable, you know that I would point out. Not sure if you're familiar with Patrick's node, the parrot node. 55553. That's four fives and a 355553 great parrot node because it gives a voice response for you to compare your voice or recording to. So yeah, that might be a good resource for you as well. But yeah, sounds fine.
Speaker A: A great day everybody. I'm going to run some errands. I've got a broken microwave oven. I got to figure out what I'm going to do and do some other things today. So thanks a lot Brian and Annette. This is, this is N2AU73
Speaker B: and they make those microwaves so cheap now they're just a throwaway item. You know, I remember, you know, 15, probably 20 years ago, you know, I did a repair on a beautiful Toshiba that we had built in. But you know, I look at it nowadays and you know, microwave failed in the RV and just measured it and ordered a new one. We certainly live in a different society now that is for sure. Well Mark, good luck with your spinal stimulator seven day trial. I know that that has been. It sounds like very successful for Carl and then also another friend of mine here went through his trial and was very successful for him as well. And they're going to go ahead with the, with the implant. So good luck to you N2IU. Great to meet you Mark and you have a wonderful day. 7 3. Good morning. This is the coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater. And let's go ahead and just take another round of quick in and outs as you get your day underway.
Speaker C: Kilo, Charlie 6, Fox, Queen, Victor. KC8FQV. Mark, Ohio.
Speaker B: K5, Golf, Whiskey, November. Kilo, bravo 6, lima, uniform, victor. Good morning,
Speaker C: Kd3han.
Speaker B: Good morning, anna. Kd3ajn. Good morning to brett. Kd6luv. Good morning, will. Kj5, gulf, whiskey, november. Good morning to mark, kc8fqv. And good morning, dave. K6dcl. And good morning to graydon, kc6sle. Did I miss anyone? All right, we'll go with this list up to the top. Just a reminder, these can announce KC6. Good morning, Grayton.
Speaker D: Good morning, Brian. Good morning, Lynette. You know, your comments on the microwave brought back memories of the first microwave that we owned. And it was, oh, we bought it from Sears and Roebuck. It was Kenmore, but it was built by Panasonic. And I'll tell you, the thing people have forgotten about the old microwaves is I think that thing weighed no less than 85 pounds. Good amount of real estate on the countertop.
Speaker B: All right, I just switched back over to the voter system. Just want to confirm I'm making it. Okay. No echo.
Speaker D: Yeah, you sound good.
Speaker C: All right.
Speaker B: Yes. You know, back at the time, you know, the front panel, the buttons just kind of started quit working and, you know, tried the old trick of can I open up those touch buttons, maybe take an eraser to it? No, these were sealed buttons. But yes, for a mere 100 and I think probably 120 bucks. 20 years ago, I was able to get a front panel, and I was happier than can be. Now. If you pay much more than 200 and 300 bucks for an eight in one in front of microwave, blah, blah, blah, you've paid way too much money.
Speaker D: Well, it's funny you mentioned that, because we had the exact same thing happen. That's a. You know, after probably five years of service, the front touch pedal quit working and a lot of the functions. We had a great appliance store in Concord that time was owned by a man and a woman, so it was a mom pop appliance traffic. But he did a lot of appliance repair. And when he couldn't repair a unit or somebody didn't want to invest that much money to repair a unit, he would salvage whatever he could out of it. So I took the old control panel after I figured, like, you That I couldn't repair it. I took it down there and he rummaged through his salvage bin and he said, I have one here that says Panasonic. It doesn't say Kenmore on it, but it's the same exact control panel. How about 25 bucks? And I said, sold.
Speaker B: You got a deal. And I bet you that microwave lasted a long time. You know, thinking back, how many pops of popcorn did that microwave do? I mean, they built those things to last. You know, nowadays I go, boy, the latest microwave lasted a long time. Five years.
Speaker D: They were literally built like tanks in those days. But we better be moving on. The sands are running through my hourglass. Just a reminder, this Saturday we have fox hunt coming up. I'll be talking to Marty today about the fox hunt, making sure everything's lined up. I know Marty's got a great handle on it. I just want to make sure that he's comfortable with where he is at this point.
Speaker E: Point.
Speaker D: So Marty, if you're listening out there, I'll be giving you a call a little bit. Encourage everybody that's interested in fox hunting to come on out. That'll be after the club breakfast at Mel's in Auburn. And nine o' clock is the pre meeting. And we're hoping this time to get the actual hunt started at 9:15 and it'll run till 11:30. It's just a, it's not only a fun event to get your equipment out and challenge yourself to find a fox with the equipment you have is also a great exercise, as we learned last night. And making sure your equipment is working properly and you remember how to use it. KC6SLE.
Speaker B: Yeah, Fox Hunt is something that we do every month up here in Northern California. So yeah, it doesn't matter if you're a member of the club or just amateur radio operator in the community Greater Sacramento region, if you want to have a fun time. Every month we put on a fox hunt. And yeah, this Saturday after breakfast at mel's Diner, Highway 49 in Auburn, California. 7:30 for breakfast and then 9am in the parking lot at Mel's Diner. We are going to be having the pre meeting for the fox hunt and it is a ton of fun. You don't need your own fox hunting equipment. Just bring along an HT and if you want you can ride along with, with one of the more experienced fox hunters and we have a fun time. Thank you, Graydon, and thank you for your assistance last evening. Really appreciate it.
Speaker D: And
Speaker B: if that radio's finals hadn't burned, burned out we probably would have found it shortly.
Speaker D: One more thought on last night. I don't know if you've talked about that this morning or not or if you want to talk about it or not. But I got to thinking after you and I talked and after the transmitter quit transmitting for the most part that the other thing that could have occurred is could it have been somebody? Okay, I'm not saying this happened but the other scenario that you have to be concerned about is if somebody go off the road, somebody go off Highway 49 and the transmitter's stuck and on but they can't say anything or they can't respond. You know, that's the other scenario that makes it valuable to be able to go out there and find a transmitter that's on all the time. It could be somebody in distress with that. Everyone have a great day. KC6.
Speaker B: Very valid point and something we need to be aware of because so many people are up this time of year. Snow wheeling or you know, last night the conditions were just pretty bad. Heavy downpour, dark streets. I in fact had trouble navigating around some of those curves on 49. It was just pouring. And yes, we need to be aware and be prepared. Graydon, you have a wonderful day. And yes, we'll see you at the the breakfast and at the fox hunt. KC6SLA AI6US73. Good morning dave. K6dcl how's your hangover today? Hi.
Speaker D: Hi.
Speaker E: I saw that. I'd be snorkered in about three minutes but that sounds like a fun game. Anyway, I wouldn't waste my time on watching it. And anyway, we're a little bit rainy here. We didn't record any precipitation on the weather station. But that's the way it is. It's raining so lightly. It takes time to catch up or catch up. I like mustard better anyway. Water habit over here. Lucy's doing good. We have nothing planned today. I have to. I finally got the money for my 480Hx Kenwood. So that is going bye bye today. Yay. Yay yay yay. I needed the money and no I didn't. Anyway so that transaction is almost completed once I get it in the post office. And I'm looking forward to that. Got it to. It was a little bit of his problem that delayed the money. But mostly my problem. Excuse me. I didn't have the right to name and my zelle account for him so it delayed the process. But it's all done and that's a good thing. Other than that, that's about it. I wanted to just say hello to you Brian and everybody on the net. Have a wonderful day, even if it's raining and Everybody take care. K6DCL. I should put it the other way around. AI6US K6DC See you later.
Speaker B: Will. Got the money for the 480HX and you're going to be shipping it today. I know what that means. You have money burning a hole in your pocket. Now we'll probably hear about a new radio that you've purchased to test. We know you, Dave. You have a wonderful day. Good morning to Lucy. Always a pleasure to have you stop by and yeah, hope you enjoyed last night's drinking game. Have a wonderful day. Clearness K60CL AI6US and let's check in now with Mark. KC8FQV. Good morning.
Speaker E: Good morning.
Speaker C: Case FVV up 39 degrees and sun's up. I took the refuge recycle down last night and they picked it up this morning. I don't know what time but it was empty when I got down there. About 10 or so or a little after 10. I don't know. It must have been 10 or a little before 10. I don't know. But I just 1048 when I got back to the house. So yeah, I did a little shoveling of the driveway up here. Well, actually I broomed it. I broomed part of the driveway. It was so light, you know. Well then it got to be a pile at the end so then I had to shovel that pile but then went down to the road and did a little there shoveling and all down the pavement. So Mr. Sol's out so Mr. Sol can do its thing. Yeah, I took one place where all we wanted to get real icy in that I took and shoveled it out. It was soft already so it was warm enough that. Well, maybe it was. Also the snow might have been insulating the underneath but everything else went good last night. Stopped at some nets and that. So the RV group, they're getting ready to go camping and travel around the country. They are. I don't. I don't camp. My sister and their kids, both their kids, her kids do and we go out to the camp at different times during the year. Last year we. They went camping.
Speaker E: They.
Speaker C: Oh, okay. My. Yeah, they went in March camping one place that was. They had to kill campground to their selves Just about one other couple was there at an indoor pool. I don't know what they're going to do this year but everything else is going good here. So I gotta go get taxes put together. So let's send it back to net control and we'll stop by some of the nets and that. So K Sub qv Back it comes.
Speaker B: Well, very good.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker B: Out here. Kind of interesting. When I was living down in the Sacramento Valley, they wanted us to separate our recyclables from our garbage. We had multiple move up here in the foothills. And they say, oh, no, just put it all in one. We have people do this for you. Kind of interesting. So, yep. Brooming the snow. Just kind of curious if you broom the snow. Have you ever used a leaf blower? The right type of snow. The leaf blower works pretty darn fine.
Speaker C: Oh, yeah, I've used the leaf blower. Didn't even think about grabbing that today. I could have, but, yeah, I have used that in times. So. Yeah. Amazing how we can use these tools for different things. Things. When you don't think about what you can use. Well, you know, I worked at the school. We had dust mops for the floor, you know, and we had different size ones. We had a 14, a 24. We had all kinds of sizes. We had a 24. One day I forgot to get one board, one of the chalkboards, you know, in the day they used to have chalkboards and I forgot to get one board. I had just put the new dust mop on. I said, oh, I'm gonna see something. I used that dust mop. And then I have all the other people use that too. You know, we use a clean dust mop and do the bore. And it really did it nice. It did it better than with a sponge in water or a rag in water. Didn't streak it or anything. It cleaned it right up. So it really was good. So, yeah, using a dust, you know, because we had. The dust mop is the, you know, the one that looks like a. Well, like a, you know, wet mop that has the strings on it and that. What this, you know, we had. And you put it on a metal frame. You slid on metal frame into the sleeve of the mop and then that was. And I'm sure people have seen them around, you know, they have you tie them or you have ones that you just slide in as a snap at the end. But yeah. So, yep, the leaf blower used for different things. Amazing when you think about different things. Hey, what about we can do this? What about we can do that? So always thinking of different. But yeah, I have used the leaf blower at times. Ksef qv.
Speaker B: Yes, indeed. I like that idea. A clean floor mop. Made fast work of the chalkboard. I love it. Thinking outside the box. Make sure. Makes life a little bit easier. Well, Mark, good morning to you. You have a wonderful day ahead. Thanks for checking in this morning and we'll catch you again tomorrow. KC8FQV, AI6US73. Good morning, will. Kj8.

Speaker A: Kj.
Speaker B: Good morning will. Kj5 golf whiskey november.
Speaker A: Good morning Brian. Yep, we didn't get burned yet. So had a few fires here yesterday. Second too big or too outlandish so you know, we didn't get burned like they got last week. Of course the wind was up in excess of 40 miles an hour in some spots. But nothing, nothing too terribly bad like it was last at this time. Sorry that y' all had the repeater trouble yesterday. Course I was at my Bible study so you know it wasn't me that was jamming the frequency. So anyway, not too much going on here. Going to church this evening and then I'm going out to eat with a high school friend of mine tomorrow. So that's my life in a nutshell. So anyway, back over to you Brian. This is Gulf fishing river.
Speaker B: Well that sounds like a pretty darn good nutshell to me there. Well Will, yes, glad to hear that yesterday didn't start up, you know, another unmanageable scenario of wildfires there in Oklahoma. But certainly wish rain to come your way soon. You have a wonderful day and sounds fun getting together old schoolmate for lunch. I haven't done that in years. KJ5 Golf Whiskey November. You have a wonderful day Will.
Speaker A: 7373 is playing and we are going to get some rain next week and we're getting together for dinner, not lunch. So we're getting together for dinner. I think he's coming down with me to get Chili's going march about 6:30 and gonna make an evening of it. KJ5 Golf Whiskey River.
Speaker B: All right, sounds like a fun evening plan. You have a great one there Will. Thanks for checking in this morning. Good morning Brett and company. KB6LUV.
Speaker C: Good morning Brian. And coffee break next in a 59 degrees here in South Natoma. So it's kind of warm here this morning.
Speaker B: I'm not mad at it at all.
Speaker C: So even though the orange ball in the sky isn't there, it is still kind of warm out there. It's so I'll take it.
Speaker B: Not a whole lot going on here on tap.
Speaker C: Yep. Mom is here.
Speaker B: Say good morning mom.
Speaker D: Good morning Brian. How are you this morning?
Speaker B: Hey, good morning Bonnie. I am sorry to hear that you're going to be leaving us soon and going back to Kansas. But I hear there might be an opportunity that we might get to see you at the at the breakfast on Saturday. That's commitment to getting up early. So maybe we'll get to see you.
Speaker C: Well we're probably not going to get to the Breakfast, but the fox hunt for sure. The breakfast might be a little bit too rarely, but definitely we'll kind of get up there for the fox hunt. So that ought to be fun. My wife Bebe is also sitting here with us enjoying the sounds of the coffee pot. Sorry to hear about the repeater system issues. Sounds like gremlins are kind of visiting repeater folk.
Speaker A: Yep.
Speaker B: And mom's got something to say early maybe for them.
Speaker D: But of course I'm still sitting on Kansas time and so I find myself
Speaker B: awake at 2:30 in the morning.
Speaker D: My brother called me at 3:30 this morning from back on the East Coast. So at any rate, time me is like, it doesn't mean anything right now.
Speaker B: You know, that's what I. You read my mind, Bonnie. That's exactly what my reply was going to be to Brett. You know, we would just be prepping you for regular time back there in Kansas. Yeah, it's quite something. I used to travel quite a bit for work. And you go to the east coast and how easy it is. Forget that people on the west coast in your office don't. Don't arrive till 8am they say, you know, what are you doing?
Speaker E: Calling it.
Speaker B: Calling. Five o' clock in the morning. Oh, sorry about that. Bonnie, Dee and Brett, you guys have a wonderful day, enjoy the company and hey, Brett, maybe, I don't know, there's some wonderful things in Sacramento area that I don't know. Bonnie has been to the train museum or Old Town. There's some pretty neat stuff to see around here.
Speaker C: Yeah, there is actually. My mom used to live in town, so she, she has lived here in Sacramento a few times in the past, so she's very familiar with. With Sacramento. So. All right, well in keeping this in
Speaker B: as a quick in and out.
Speaker C: Thank you Brian. Everybody else out there, coffee break. Have an amazing day. Take care of yourselves, take care of each other. KB6L U V of Love 72 AI 6 US Clearing 73.
Speaker B: All right, well, very good. I did not know that Bonnie used to live out this way. So maybe she could show you around. So, you know, maybe take her to Leatherby's then. She knows what that place is. Planning your day for you, Brett. You have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking in, Bonnie. Good morning Dee Dee. And we'll get in with you guys again maybe tomorrow. Speaker F: Good morning Brian and everyone else on the net this Morning. Well, plans got changed today. We were going to go visit my. She's sick. So I am going to spend some time with my grandchildren and spoil them a little bit.
Speaker B: And I'm sure they will enjoy that. What a small world. I heard you talking over the weekend. I'm trying to remember which net control operator you were talking with but I found it so interesting that Mickey and I'm sorry that they are members of your club. I, you know, just blew me away to hear that they moved from our community to your community. Lovely people. You are lucky.
Speaker F: Yes, Mickey and Roy are in our club and it was funny because I heard Mickey on this, this net one morning and I was surprised. I didn't realize she knew anybody out there.
Speaker B: Yep, they lived, oh probably about four or five miles from where I live and they used to stop by at my office every once in a while and yeah, Mickey and Roy, great, great folks and, and Jacob and we certainly miss them and. But yeah, they stay in touch and check in with our nets and it's great that these Internet connections are keeping us connected up. Well, very good, Anna. Well, enjoy your day with the grandkids and change of plans but it sounds like it's going to be a wonderful day.
Speaker F: Yes, it is. It's always fun to go see the grandkids but I think my sister, this is the second time now we plan to go visit. Been sick but hey, it happens. So I will enjoy the grandkids and everybody have a good week. KD3AJN.

Good morning to peter for a quick in and out. Kd6qzh. We'll be right back to you. Good morning to patrick into dyi for in and out. And good morning to jimmy n6fmd for a quick in and out.
Speaker C: Did I miss anyone?
Speaker B: I got Daniel in 9 MUF and then the station that was coming in through a Fireside east coast hub. Come again, please.
Speaker C: You doubled in.
Speaker B: The last station that was checking in through Fireside east coast hub. Try it again, please. Nothing hurt. All right. We will go with this list here. Good morning, Jimmy. We'll visit with our in n outs first. Good morning, Jimmy. For a quick in and out in six fmd.
Speaker G: Good morning, Brian and the net. Well, I got my. My mama and my daddy coming into town today. My sister and her husband and kids will be coming in town tomorrow for my youngest daughter's wedding, which is Friday. So really excited about that. And then my parents are going to stick around for a couple of weeks for us to visit and chat and have a good time. And I just picked up a Zygoo 6100 and operated it this morning and got 11 contacts in 32 I was doing it at 10 watts so I didn't operate off the internal battery. So I was pretty excited about that. On a photo performer that's it for me Brian. I know to quick in and out so that just what I wanted to share this morning and say Good morning everybody. Back to net control in 6FMD.
Speaker B: Boy, you packed a lot of information in that short check in. Congratulations on the new radio. Congratulations on your youngest daughter's wedding this weekend and mom and dad coming into town. That will be extra special. Well, excellent. Well, it sounds like you are going to have a busy house this weekend. You know are you going to be able to fit in a PODA on the way to the wedding?
Speaker G: It's funny you say that. I'm actually bringing my radio to the wedding and I think my daughter has given me permission to do a special event call to make a couple of contacts. So we'll see if that actually really happens. But at least she gave me the okay. I'm not even sure where the wedding's at. That's how in tune going on. I back clear out of that because there's a lot of emotions and politics in family involved in that and I just, I let them all figure it out. They just tell me where to be. Only thing I had to do is go pick up a suit and I had to buy a new suit. I lost some weight and the old suit just don't fit right no more. Anyway, that's, yeah, that's what we got going on. My mom and dad like to poda things so I'm sure they're going to want to go out with me and listen to me call on the radio. Not sure why but they, they, they loved it when I did it up there and when they came down and visited last year we did it again. So. So I'm sure I'll get some podium. It just won't be out there every day over.
Speaker B: That sounds fun. Maybe they just enjoy getting out in the park and marveling over their brilliant son who can contact people around the world using a piece of wire and a 12 volt battery. Jimmy, have a wonderful day. Once again, congratulations on. On your youngest daughter's wedding. Yes, that is one reason when I used to be in film and video production, you know, people go oh you do, you do great camera work. Can you do our wedding? Heck no. Too emotionally charged for me. N6FMD AI6US once again have a wonderful weekend ahead. All right.
Speaker G: Hey, thanks Brian73 and again good morning to everybody
Speaker B: and Jimmy is starting a new. A new activation called wota. Weddings on the air. Yeah. Good morning, Patrick into dyi.
Speaker E: Good morning, Brian and everyone on the net. I am just waiting for a phone call which will probably happen any second now. Right before the net, I got a call. Oh, the TVs aren't working again. So the Verizon tech is here and everything went offline and is still offline. They have broken my network again. So I'm going to kind of get
Speaker B: put back in the loop because I
Speaker E: know things aren't going to work when
Speaker B: they put it back. Kind of like the infamous. I'm from the government. I'm here to help.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: Networks. I'm from the cable company and I am here to help.
Speaker G: Yeah.
Speaker B: They.
Speaker E: They unsurprisingly, don't like the fact that I'm not using their router as intended. There's a good reason for that,
Speaker B: all the pushback on that. If you don't fully embrace their system. Oh, here's the problem. You're in bridge mode. No, that's what makes my system work.
Speaker E: Yeah, that's what I told the.
Speaker B: The lady.
Speaker E: The tech support technician person who was over there. I'm like, oh, it's been working just
Speaker B: fine for a year and a half like that. That's not the problem. But of course, they are paid to know more than you or I. Yes. And then you clean up the mess after they leave. How many? You know, I. Probably on at least five occasions, I've had them go, no, it's your router. Well, my router is exactly like your router. Go ahead and swap it out. Give me the address to ship it back in a couple of weeks.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker E: So the. And the stupid thing is, I don't think this box is necessary. What it's doing is it's basically being a MOCA bridge. So the PVR, there's a whole house
Speaker B: PVR, what they're calling a PVR.
Speaker E: And it's, I think got 12 tuners and a hard drive in it or something like that. And it's connecting to the Internet through the MOCA coax port on this router. And that device also has an ethernet port. So I'm like, why can't we just go straight from Ethernet? Keep the, you know, the cable connection for the coax is also split between the router and the ont. So it's being fed from two different points, one for Ethernet and one for, I guess just the. Whatever they're doing on the other side of the ont for the translation for
Speaker B: the TV stuff and then locally for the ip.
Speaker E: So I'm like, well, why can't we just bridge that straight into the network?
Speaker B: Why do I even need your router?
Speaker E: That's all it's doing anyway,
Speaker B: as it was explained to me, and I've never torn apart any of their gear, but it was explained to me that those routers do frequency duplexing.

Speaker A: And they want to keep those systems very isolated from each other. I kind of scratched my head and went, okay, sounds like a great answer. And I will rewire everything after you leave. Well, good luck at that, Patrick. And yeah, it's kind of fun to be trying to remote manage a system with somebody there who knows what they're doing.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, they certainly don't do any network segmenting because it is a straight bridge.
Speaker A: There's. There's not even any VLANS or anything. It just, it's all just whatever. It just gets put straight through.
Speaker B: And the multiplexing thing doesn't make any sense because they're not using that for wide area stuff.
Speaker A: So. Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker B: But I'm just sitting here waiting because
Speaker A: there will be a phone call.
Speaker B: Everything is still broken. I did a lot of customization to a bunch of different things and they don't know any of that stuff, so they're gonna have fun trying to get that to work. So I've been sitting here for about
Speaker A: an hour going, yeah, I sure hope
Speaker B: Danielle is not working remotely today, because she's not.
Speaker A: Oh, man. Well, maybe there's something actually that's going to encourage you to come back to New York sooner than later. Patrick, get up here, fix the mess into dyi Always a pleasure, Patrick. You have a great day ahead. It sounds like it's one heck of a start. Yep.
Speaker B: Patrick, it can only get better from here.
Speaker A: All right.
Speaker B: 73ai6US N2DYI
Speaker A: we'll all look forward to Thursday because we know that's going to be all the better for you. KD6QZH Good morning, Peter.
Speaker C: Good morning, Ryan. Everyone on that quick and announce on a coffee break so to speak was on the net and actuality I'm raising my mocha to you all this morning. Just doing a quick check and quite a bit of work to do and I have to take a bit of a break over lunch so I can talk Eisenhower Neuro Medical A because the wheelchair that I use with the air. They have tilt and recliner functions because I'm a quadriplegic so I have to hang on I want to drop anyway can you conceive an 8 kid stopped
Speaker D: working
Speaker C: and by loner believe it or not I loaned out to somebody who needed it because they were dreaded Their chair's not back yet so trying to work out what I'm going to do here. Anyway, that's enough about me but good morning. I'm still blessed, still in a good mood. Katie's excuse Any shout to you, but
Speaker A: it sounds like a chair round robin.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker A: To get your mobility back, you'd have to take it away from somebody else. So sounds like there's a bigger, bigger problem that exists outside of your house there. Always giving person there, Peter. That's what we like about you, KD6QZH. You have a wonderful day ahead. And yeah, I hope they get that resolved for you very quickly.
Speaker C: And they will. I've got. I know a couple people want extra chairs. I'm gonna call around so I'm okay. The problem is that Kaiser or most medical insurance only pay for one chair, which is a little bit practical because we use our chairs to go everywhere and do everything. But anyway, I digress. I wanted to pass it back up. Katie's excuse it. Yeah.
Speaker A: Even worse than owning one pair of shoes. Absolutely.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker A: Well, I hope that works out for you quickly and we'll, we'll hope the best for you there, Peter. KD6QZHAI6US. And good morning to Daniel. Excuse me, I'm sorry. Good morning to Jeff K06MMI but we made Daniels jump up thinking he was going to get the microphone. Good morning, Jeff.
Speaker E: Good morning, Brian. Good morning. Coffee Breaknet. This is Jeff K06MMI. Thank you for the kind correction. On my own call sign it is less than a week old, so I appreciate.
Speaker A: Oh, we lost you there, Jeff. Sounded like you were in a mid sentence when you cut out less than a week old. But yes, call signs will grow on you. Let's see, maybe your battery died. Let's try you again.
Speaker E: Sounds like I may have cut out there. Can you hear me, Brian Ko6MMI?
Speaker A: Yeah, sure can, Jeff. No, you had just said that the call sign is less than a week old and then you kind of cut off there, but no license. When I, when I first got my license and I went to my first club meeting, you know, at that time we had probably, oh, probably 35, 45 members attending at the meeting. And I was just amazed. Not only did they know each other's first names, but they knew each other by call sign. It made my head spin.
Speaker E: Yeah, you know, it's great to get a call sign, great to get on the air, but I am looking forward to something a little different when I scheduled my next appointment for my extra Test on the 14th.
Speaker A: Well, very good. Well, Jeff, who do you test with? Do you test with a group locally or do you test online?
Speaker E: Locally with Granite Bay.
Speaker A: Well, excellent.
Speaker C: Excellent.
Speaker A: Well, we certainly wish you well as you, as you move forward. And study for that next level. And boy, you know, the licenses are just. They're like guardrails. They keep you in the center of the road. And then the learning actually begins when you start putting all that to use in the hobby. So we wish you well on that. Do we have you standing out on the back porch in the rain again today?
Speaker E: Standing on the back porch, but it's not really raining. You can't hear it on the ground, which is my qualifier for actual rain. We get a lot of wet weather in California, but not a lot of rain.
Speaker A: All right, well, I can assure you up here in Medavista, it has been drizzling all night long and a little bit heavier than that at times. So, yeah, I doubt we'll see the sunshine for a couple days, but it is what it is. Jeff, you have a wonderful day ahead. Good luck as you study there.
Speaker E: Thank you so much for the well wishes. Brian, I do want to keep this short, but I did have one question that could be answered with a yes or no if that would be appropriate.
Speaker A: I'll answer you right now, yes or no. Go ahead.
Speaker E: The question is for the Fox hunt that's coming up. Would that be an appropriate activity or would others be, let's say, would they be willing to have a intelligence?
Speaker A: I think your radio keeps timing out there, Jeff. I think you were asking if we would be willing to have an intelligent. And we. I think you're offering up yourself, but go ahead, try that again.
Speaker E: Thank you. The question is, would an intelligent 5 year old and a responsible 40 year old be welcome at the Fox Hunt?
Speaker A: Absolutely no. It was probably about this time a year ago, I took out Evan and his son on their first Fox hunt and they rode along with me and as we hunted for the fox. And I think his son was about 6 years old and Evan is probably about 38, so not that big of an age difference. And they had a blast and they ended up building their own antenna. And they have come out on many fox hunts. And so, yeah, absolutely. I think that would be something that you guys would enjoy and you can ride along with someone else if you want or you can forage out on your own. You're welcome either way.
Speaker C: Thank you.
Speaker E: I appreciate the extra time in answering my question. This is Jeff saying thank you, Brian. Thank you. Coffee break, Nate. Coffee break. Net. Have a wonderful day. Just K06MMI clear.
Speaker A: Absolutely.
Speaker D: Jeff.
Speaker A: I think the thing that's important is to, you know, get the. Get that little kid to maybe hold a radio and kind of maybe do some body flagging, which we'll demonstrate for you, and kind of, kind of keep him hands on so he's just not tagging along. And man, kids really, you know, for what I've noticed is kids really like this. It's kind of like, you know, the hunt for the pirate treasure or anything like that. And they seem to bond with that really well and seem to have fun. Word of warning, though, we often meet at a burger and cream and get a milkshake or something afterwards. So just kind of a warning there. Jeff K06MMI AI6US welcome to a great hobby 7 3. Well, good morning, WA6E. Jerry, what do you think? Do you think a kid would enjoy fox hunting?
Speaker D: Good morning, Brian and everybody on the net. This is WA6E. There's no question a kid would enjoy fox hunting.
Speaker A: It's a game.
Speaker D: And just between you and me, kind of like Connie Chung did, you know, on her interview, just between you and me, it's also educational. But don't tell the kid that. Yeah, they would have a ball. Normally I just sit here and listen to you, but you said something a little while ago that I had to comment on and that had to do with the recycling bags up there. I spent 17 years on the Placer County Planning Commission and I was also on the Placer County Garbage Board.
Speaker A: And I had my eyes opened about
Speaker D: recycling in Placer county. And, and if you can give me two minutes, I'll tell you the story that results in the just don't use the bag, throw it in the trash stream Comments
Speaker A: oh, I want to hear more because so many years I lived up in Portland, Oregon, and you know
Speaker C: how
Speaker A: centered they are on the environment up there. And there was actually a friend of mine whose neighbor would come around and check the green bin, the blue bin and the gray bin to make sure they were proper and would leave little notes to correct them if they had sorted something wrong. Please enlighten me. Jerry.
Speaker D: California has been on a roll to encourage recycling by all the counties. There are 58 counties in this grand and glorious state, more counties than there are states in the union. And of those 58, Placer county, which is where we are, which goes from Tahoe down to Sacramento, is number one in recycling. And I don't know what the number is. It's been like eight years since I left that board. But whatever the recycling rate, how they measure it, Placer county has number one. I had a pastor come to our church. The church replaces them every now and then. And she moved over from palo alto, and when she found out I was on the garbage board, I got an earful. Oh, my goodness. In palo alto, we separate clear glass from colored glass, from cardboard, from wood, from garbage, from coffee ground, on and on and on and on. So finally, I'd had enough, and theta took her over to the material recycling facility and gave her a tour. I can tell you that is one of the most advanced recycling facilities in the world. It's an incredible production line, and here's how it works. Let me reset. The garbage comes in, and they run down these sorters, and they have 80 currents for aluminum, and they have magnetic for the ferrite stuff, and they blow the paper out, and they separate the cardboard, and they separate the food stuff, and they even have machines that separate the glass into clear glass and colored glass automatically. It's an amazing system, and by the time you get to the end, There's a bunch of people standing there who separate the flotsam and jetsam that's left over. But it's an amazing process, and it works extremely well. Once upon a time, the county decided early on, we're going to give people these blue bags, they call them, and
Speaker A: we're going to ask them to put
Speaker D: the recycling stuff into the blue bags. Well, people are idiots. And what came in the blue bags was coffee grounds and banana peels and cheese and all kinds of stuff that is not recyclable. And so instead of just running it down the system, they had to stop, Tear open the bags, and dump that stuff into the production line. So they use the bag. There are some cities that still use them, Roseville being one. And that's what they do. When they come in, they have to open them up. But the net result of all of this is we have the highest recycling rate of any county in california. Could it be better? Of course. But it's amazing. Let me reset. I'll tell you another cute story. You know these little cylinders that we all use for our barbecues, Pork portable barbecues and lanterns and things like that? They're about.
Speaker A: Oh, I don't know, they're round and
Speaker D: stand about 10 inches tall or so. Those have to be specially recycled. They get sent up to oregon, where they're punctured and the residual propane is sucked out. So they have to be separated, and they have this machine that comes down and compresses all the metal stuff into. Into a cube about 3ft on a side, and it makes several passes, and occasionally one of those propane cylinders will get stuck in there. By mistake. And the guys tell me that when the machine comes down to compress it, it has like spikes on it and it will puncture one of those cylinders by mistake, which allows some of the residual propane to leak out. And when the thing which is on a metal track, goes back out and then comes in for another, it creates a certain amount of sparks which causes an explosion, a small explosion. Guy says it doesn't do any harm, but it scares the hell out of us. So now you know why it is we really don't want you putting your stuff in a bag.
Speaker A: Well, a couple comments. I'm sure they gave us all plastic bags to put our straws into. California bans non reusable propane cylinders. Beginning January 1, 2028, only refillable propane canisters and cylinders will be offered for sale within the California market.
Speaker D: Oh, how funny that is. I can't regulate what the state does. We have to dance to their song. But I shouldn't know about that. But I do know it costs us. What does one of those things cost? $8.59 or something? It costs us more than that to have it set up to Oregon and recycled. So maybe that's not such a bad idea. What that means is everybody will go over to Reno to buy.
Speaker A: Well, I don't backpack anymore. You know, my camping is now in an rv. But you know, I just think about the impact on people who use the little canisters for cooking and such. So they will need to discard their, probably their old cylinders and move over to something that is reusable and usually much heavier. So maybe jeff kw6u will weigh in and let us know. Is he going to be cooking with gas? But no, the thing about these little refillable cylinders is you don't have to keep buying them and then recycle them. They make kits. So you can take your 5 pound propane tank and fill your own.
Speaker D: Well, that does make a certain amount of sense. I have propane cylinders that I use for my barbecue. I don't know how big they are, but 10 gallons maybe or less. And I could use one of those to fill it. Any event, I just want you to know, as Paul Harvey would have said the rest of the story when it comes to recycling, that we do an incredible job given the state of the art in recycling. And the boys are waking me up over here. So all things considered, we do a good job. And that's why they don't want you to put it in the bag.
Speaker A: You know, it certainly makes our job easier, and it really fits into the way society is nowadays. You just don't have to think about it. You just in that magical thing, roll it out to the curb and it just disappears. Yeah, isn't that something? It was probably even printed on that little bag of what was allowed to go in it. Common sense just ain't that common. No mo. And I'm sure you lit up the voice. I imagine your message thread is now going to be filled with all sorts of do you know what California is doing now? Say good morning to Dan for me.
Speaker C: Kathy.

Speaker A: Wa60ai6us. Always a pleasure. Looking forward to having you. And faded tomorrow morning coffee breaknet host and conversation facilitators. Thanks for everything you guys do. Seven three.
Speaker B: Okay, one last comment before I go. And that is unlike the Bay Area, we can actually do outdoor burning here. And one thing they did years ago was they provided these cool green totes and you can put your wood chips and vegetable trimmings and whatnot in there and they take it over and they compost it. If you go over to the recycling
Speaker A: facility, they have rows and rows of
Speaker B: wood chips and things that they compost.
Speaker A: You can see the steam coming off of it in the winter.
Speaker B: And that has done more than just about anything to stop the outdoor burning in this county.
Speaker A: So, you know, there are alternatives and
Speaker B: it's interesting to watch them work. The state of the art just has to catch up with it so that we don't have anything that doesn't get recycled and eventually that'll happen. I'm fighting the dog here. Who wants to go out? See you later, Brian. Have a good one. Waxe
Speaker A: boy. How can I compete with a cute puppy? Yeah, you go ahead, Jerry. And thanks for. Thanks for weighing in and some good information. Congratulations everybody in Placer County. We are number one in recycling in California. Now just tell me how I can get rid of my aluminum cans and glass bottles and get my money back. They collect a recycling fee on everything and they took away all the centers to recycle. It's crazy. KO68 Good morning, Greg. Maybe you could tell me other than going up to the recycling center there near you, where can you recycle cans and bottles? I'm directing the conversation too much. Good morning, Greg.
Speaker C: Good morning, Brian. No, that's a fair question. So the transfer center facility on Shale Ridge does not do cash back. They closed that for Covid and decided never to reopen it again. I believe there is a place to take bottles and cans. It's over by Raley's for show exit somewhere over there that I went to a while back and they did give cash back for. For bottles and cans. So you know the whole way they weigh it and they, you know, computer and how they can weigh one or some number, small number of those plastic. The water bottles beyond me. But I mean the amount of junk around there should swamp any kind of reading. But anyway, so yeah, there is a place over there. Last I tried it, they were still open. I probably have enough stuff. I can take it over there, try again. But the next I'll load. But yeah, today actually to the topic. Today is a day of outings and things to do. I've got some shopping to do. I've got some, let's see, probably some recycling and then a question on those propane cylinders, the ones they say you cannot refill this thing, the ones used for procreating torches and things, the small ones they say you cannot refill them. Will they have kits to refill those or do you need to get new ones and then refill them? KS68.
Speaker A: You know, I don't own one of those kits yet, but supposedly in reading those, any of those canisters that have those threaded top with a little push down valve are refillable and supposedly these kits on Amazon will do that. Maybe somebody else can have a on that. Whether they've done that or not. By the way, that place behind Raley's is closed. And so I'm just trying to find. Looks like. Then they said okay, top recycling redemption centers. JL recycling behind Raley's.
Speaker D: Okay, that's closed.
Speaker A: Recology is number two. You said they are closed? Yeah. Anybody in the greater Auburn area. Where can we get our redemption money back? Otherwise it just sounds like it's a money to the state into a fund somewhere that we never get back and you throw into the garbage can.
Speaker C: Give it a pause there in case someone else had an idea. The only one else I know of would be down on Athens Boulevard down in Lincoln. I'm guessing they would be the only place. But yeah, that's what bugged me about the. I mean. Yeah, I'm paying the two and a half per can, whatever it is for the cans and bottles and stuff. That's my money, right. Why should I give that to the county? I'm assuming maybe a question to Jerry. I'm assuming this massive facility is not a cost center. It must be a profit center taking all that stuff and selling it back. They're getting my two and a half cents back for all the stuff that they separate out. So I don't know. Anyway, interesting evening last night with the transmitter that was stuck on. I haven't checked this morning to see if what's on the input, but my guess is it's probably just someone's doorbell transformer now that we're hearing off in that direction somewhere. The signal, it kind of comes, it goes up and down. It went up and down a little bit last night off to the north from me. And so it may be something totally. It may be something that's always there. And the transmitter itself is no longer in working condition which I guess serves it right. I don't know. We don't know the situation out there. KS68 Back to you Brian.
Speaker A: You know I've gone to JL Recycling website and they indicate that that facility is open. So I'm kind of getting mixed things but I'm seeing more things that might indicate that actually that JL Recycling is still open up there by Rayleigh. So we'll have to check it out. We just throw those redemption items in the trash and let them sort it out. And hopefully that's one more way that we can pay a tax to the calendar state. Yeah, that jammed. Whatever was happening last evening, you know it went on. Frank detected it that it probably started somewhere around 5:30. Timed out all the systems so we, we weren't just hearing traffic as soon as it timed out the system because it was just a carrier only I wasn't really alerted until Smitty emailed me probably or texted me somewhere around 7:30. So it probably been going on for several hours before we even were aware of it. And then rolled out on it and got very close and then it disappeared. But at least we know the direction that it is. Thank you for your help last evening. It got me close to where it was and then I'd hate to think that their PA went up in smoke, but so be it.
Speaker C: Yeah, after several hours. What's that radio that unsolders itself Disassembly. Internal disassembly there in rocket terms it's
Speaker D: a red
Speaker C: unscheduled disassembly. It wasn't so rapid in this case but maybe accomplish the same thing. We don't know. Anyway, let's see what else was there. Oh so yeah so back circling back to the comments about fox hunting and equipment, you know that what I used to last night was my satellite array. I've got you know the beams for tracking satellites and they work pretty good for at times for pinpointing the direction of a, of a transmitter. If I can hear it here from my house, I can usually pinpoint it within a few degrees because the accuracy needed to track a satellite means I can swing the beam around. And you know it's. I mean it's, it's an eight element beam so it's not super narrow beam but it's close enough I can, with a little bit of experience using it I can kind of get a feel for which way it's headed. And yeah, so that's what I used last night. Eight element, circular, polarized Beam on two meters with rotisserie. Anyway, on with the day, on with the errands and trying to stop. Oh and yesterday we had almost no, no rain. 0.09 I think I registered but a little more last night so I gotta check the rain as well. KS60H. Busy day coming.
Speaker A: Yep, it drizzled all night but nothing really registered. It was. Everything is just wet and goopy this morning. But yeah, we've definitely had a good share of rain this month. Almost, almost eight and eight and a half inches this month. Well, good morning to you and once again thanks for your help last evening. And once again I'm just going to reach out to anyone out there. Please do bring it to our attention if there's something going on with the repeater, you know, several of us try to monitor it but if you detect that there's a problem, you are not bothering us to alert us of the problem. And yeah, had I, had I known about it a half hour or an hour earlier, I'm sure would have found it, you know, was out there doing a fox hunt with the, with the Aggie was about to break out the Kraken and we could have found it had we known about it just a little bit sooner. But anyway, glad to know that it went away. And yeah, follow the smoking power amplifier at this point probably I do want to know what kind of radio it was that was able to transmit for three hours straight. Good morning. Have a wonderful day Greg and we'll catch you this evening in the shack, 7:30pm Pacific Time on the W6EK Sierra Foothill damage Radio Club Zoom Room.
Speaker C: Yes, good reminder, in the Shack tonight, 7:30 on Zoom and demonstration by Brian and questions from everybody. I've got one myself. So yeah, it's going to be a fun session. See you all there. Ko6th.
Speaker A: Yep. Greg asked me to demonstrate FT2 which is a digital form that just was released recently. A very fast digital Exchange. Fox Tango 2, FT2. Very interesting. Good morning. Clearing with Greg. Let's check in with Daniel now in 9 MUF. Good morning Daniel. Good morning Brian and the Net.
Speaker C: Sorry about that.
Speaker D: Couldn't get to the mic sooner. Somebody was battling with me for an attempt for an assault while she was trying to assault the keyboard in my desk.
Speaker A: No, that was my error. I missed that Jeff. I almost missed that. Jeff was in and out so I almost went to you instead. Well, good morning Daniel. Yes indeed. You have a keyboard warrior beside you. That's good to hear. If you could only, you know, teach teacher to do proper, proper speech.
Speaker D: Oh, that would be a little frightening. She definitely got on the desk last night. I was like, I never opened these applications. What? Oh, that's right, because I've got a bunch of hair ties tucked in behind the Mac and they were all over the place floor, and she found them. So I'm gonna have to figure out how to prevent her from getting up on the desk when I'm not there if I shut her out of the room too much. A couple of her favorite beds are in here and I don't want to do that.
Speaker A: Yep, warm radios. Probably a warm amplifier for the guitar. Yeah, probably a very awesome room for the guitar. That cat friend of mine, her cat loves chewing on cords. I guess, you know, you just have a failed USB once in a while, but bad things could happen with that habit.
Speaker D: Reminds me of the scene in National Lampoon Christmas vacation, if you've seen that.
Speaker A: Yeah, I think that cat watches too much too many movies. Definitely does.
Speaker D: Now we've got some stuff to put on the cable. She is a bit of a cable nut, but we're trying to catch the cables and put the anti bite spray on them. Except it is absolutely nasty. And if you do not have a mask over your face while you're putting it on, your eyes and your mouth will pay for it. So it's kind of a, let's get everything all at once and do it and then burn anything associated with it.
Speaker A: Probably the original formula was very pleasing to the owner and just smelled rotten to the cat. And they just, you know, they had this focus session and people were more favorable to their product when they put the repellent smell in for humans. They thought it worked better. I don't know. That's just how focus sessions work.
Speaker D: Oh, boy. Yeah, no, this, this is pretty nasty stuff right now. I'm just kind of trying to recover from last night. It was a two hour interview. We played tracks from both of our solo CDs, talked about the band station on the north side of Chicago covers a good part of the north side. So we'll, we'll see what comes with that. They've invited us back and actually invited us back for a, maybe a Christmas show as well. Not Christmas music per se, just to show around Christmas time. So we'll see how that goes.
Speaker C: Well, cool.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's been a while since I've been. Been interviewed or on a station and that sounds fun. I always enjoy doing interviews and being interviewed a few times in my life causes you to kind of focus on the subject And I tended to learn a lot interviewing people about their passions because you kind of have to get into what they did and who they were and at least try to come up with intelligent questions that would lead you in. You had to be interactive. So I really used to enjoy that part of it.
Speaker D: And part of the trick is that the interviewer needs to not ask yes or no questions, because too many people, if they're handed a yes or no question, especially on the radio. I've seen sometimes watching students back in college asking yes or no question during an interview, and the person they're interviewing would nod. And then the poor student is absolutely flummoxed about where to go next. And it's, you know, you ask a question that forces something, except a yes or no answer.
Speaker A: Did you have fun?
Speaker D: You know, I thought about just nodding and waiting for you to come back.
Speaker A: Will you do it again? Oh, boy. Yeah.
Speaker D: You've been on the interviewing side of it as well. It's. I was pointing that out to my wife. We were watching somebody who's interviewed being interviewed, and I said, it's a cool subject, but a terrible interviewer. And the person they are interviewing is actually rescuing the interviewer because he's not answering yes or no to the yes or no questions. He's taking them and running with them and actually doing the job of the interviewer for him.
Speaker A: But, see, you're a good interviewee because you filled in for my yes or no requests. So very good. No, I mean, a big part of being a net control operator is leading questions, something that's going to engage people to talk and share. You know, that's a big part. And I think that's one thing that we have a great group of net control operators that know how to formulate questions based on what they hear.
Speaker D: And a lot of that, again, when it comes to interviewing, is coming into it with active listening skills, paying attention to what they're saying on the spot. But at least I remember when I was doing radio interviews is having enough research on the topic that you could take it in several directions, depending on what kind of mood they were in, what they felt they wanted to talk about. And that will end up changing the tenor of the interview because you're coming at it with more knowledge than they expect.
Speaker A: Well, you know, interviewing, I really enjoy it. Something that I've always, always enjoyed. And quite often I would be sent out just to, you know, be a cameraman. And I would show up there and then they would fax. Yeah, they would fax me over some questions or they would email me a list of questions. By the way, the producer is not going to be there today. Could you ask these questions? And yeah, you tend to start becoming a good interviewer by, you know, being forced into a room role and I've always enjoyed doing that. Well, I am so glad that you had a good experience last evening and that you were invited back. That speaks volumes in itself.
Speaker D: It was good to be behind the mic again, though. Like I said, it was definitely a bit strange, but.

Speaker B: any suggestions? N6wip? N6ntm. I don't think
Speaker A: I did hear it ring. I have heard it ring before, but I sure couldn't hear you. Were
Speaker B: you hearing me? So here we go. Apple iPhones. I don't know what changed with it. Try it again. I had it in my hand, so. Nope, it's not ringing on my end.
Speaker A: Yeah, the face lights up and it looks like I'm. You're hearing me now?
Speaker B: Nope. No, I'm not hearing you. No. Are you hearing me? And I see the
Speaker A: little bar. I see the little bar on the left side of this screen when I push the up and down button on the left side.

Speaker A: I'm just in settings right now. I'm looking for anything that pertains to the volume. I don't see it Transport or reset. IPhone. So they did an update last night so things probably have changed.
Speaker B: Everything but voice,
Speaker A: language, religion, keyboard, fonts, dictionary, date and time, background app fresh auto fill and password screen capture, picture to picture airplay and continuity and airdrop iPhone storage software update.
Speaker B: I give up. Double. No. None of that's been turned on for a long time. I'll go to speaker. Try it now.
Speaker A: Yeah, but I got to turn the speaker on to hear you but at least
Speaker B: I know to do that. Well on
Speaker C: the side of the phone there should be a couple of buttons to go up and down with.
Speaker A: Yeah and I could see it going up and down and I definitely had it on full blast so there's something else in there. I see the mute thing 5v3
Speaker B: that ain't on.

Speaker A: Being on the other side of it, since most of my time in radio, I was the dj, not the victim. But it definitely was a lot of fun. Reminds me how much I miss it and I think also reminds me that it's not something I would want to do full time.
Speaker B: I miss the energy, you know, something in that creative process. And maybe that's why I like doing the coffee Breaknet. There's just a good energy when you are in a conversation with somebody and you walk away just, you know, feeling a little bit smarter because you talk to somebody who just taught you something.
Speaker A: I absolutely do agree with that. It was really great. She had some good knowledge of Prague and we were able to talk about that and asked some intelligent questions. But what I also appreciated is, is that when we go to the music, she kept up the conversation and was able then to come back and ask more questions based on that. So it was a case of really feeling engaged with her the entire time, as opposed to some DJs I've seen where once they put on the music, they tune out and they don't keep the person engaged so that when it's time to go back in the air, they're kind of out in left field.
Speaker B: Oh, how often have we seen that? Yeah, no, that, you know, turn it on when the camera lights come on and you completely disengage and you lose the flow, lose that connection. And, you know, as a. As you know, I used to do a lot of stringer work for entertainment nightly entertainment shows and news, etc. And you would just instantly know what kind of talent you were working with by the way they interacted with their interviewee. And yeah, I could name some names of people that are. You would recognize that I thought were absolutely terrible interviewers. And I can give you a list of people that are just fascinating interviews and you hit the nail on the head. The good interviewers establish a repertoire with the. With the interviewee, and they kept that connection going. They didn't turn it on and off with the lights.
Speaker A: Because the person that they're interviewing might not be able to do that. A lot of people, there's an energy that you carry on and it's okay to say, by the way, during the music, we were talking about this and
Speaker C: I'd like to follow up with it.
Speaker A: And nobody feels like they were cut off by a conversation taking place while the music was playing. I think people expect that to happen.
Speaker B: Yep. Always interesting. You know, I used to watch back halls all the time. You know, had a satellite system for Many, many years. And you'd watch these live feeds coming in from the field and you would see all different types of interviewed styles and techniques. And you know, I think that really honed skills by watching pros work and then looking at some people going, man, I just, I'm glad I learned from your mistake, buddy.
Speaker A: There's a popular YouTube personality and I watch him and it's like you're answering the question you're trying to ask, you're filling in what you should be asking him about and, and instead you're going on and on about this person's album for two minutes and all the details that should be the person you're interviewing, their opportunity to give. And one of the skills that the good interviewer needs to have is to get out of the way of what you know and help the person be the point of the conversation, not insert yourself in trouble. Try and impress the interviewer with how or the interviewee the subject with how much you know about them.
Speaker B: How true is that comment? Yeah, how often have you seen the interviewer try to prove, you know, their knowledge on a subject instead of letting the interviewee tell their story? No good observations there, Daniel. Absolutely. Well, and then another thing is turning to a subject that, you know, you haven't done your research well enough. And so, Daniel, you know, I'm just going to sit back and you tell me about nuclear fusion, please.
Speaker C: Do you really want to go down that particular rabbit hole?
Speaker A: Because actually, well, I don't have a degree in science. It was one of my things. And I've done some research, you know, I follow it. And of course, living south of Fermi, you're kind of stuck with it.
Speaker B: Okay, maybe I picked the wrong subject matter. Maybe I should have found some biodiversity in South America that you haven't studied up on yet. Daniel, I was just trying to make a point and you put me in my place. I appreciate that.
Speaker A: I just figured you were trying to
Speaker B: go out with a bang. I did. And you proved it. You proved it. Well, what are you gonna be up to today?
Speaker A: Probably after the grab a nap, try
Speaker B: and recover from getting home at oh,
Speaker A: dark 30 and I think some a little more radio stuff. There's a few T's I want to cross and take care of the I's and just make sure everything is ready the next time a PODA comes up and breathe a little bit. I've worked through weekends a bit and need to give myself a little bit of personal time, but between that and cw, it'll be good.
Speaker B: All right. And I just reminded myself that today is Wednesday so it's VAR AC Wednesday and it's something that I keep saying I'm going to get involved with. I haven't yet, but I'm going to look into that and and I just need to start using that format a little bit more so I stay connected and familiar with it. So VAR AC Wednesday,
Speaker A: Thank you very much for reminding me about it. I'm tired enough that I completely forgot about it. Also on another topic, when would be a good time to touch base with you on the tablets for VE testing? My VE head has definitely expressed some interest and you and I had talked about it, but we just need you to figure out a good time.
Speaker B: You know, I'm pretty much available most daylight hours, so after the nets or if on a day that a net is not happening, I'm usually available during the day. Love to help you guys out as you kind of explore using electronic testing and absolutely. Just a couple of reminders. Thank you so much. Tomorrow evening 5pm I will not be available because I'm going to be going to Ray KK 6am a celebration of Life and hang out with Christina and Thomas at 5pm at Brewster's Burger Auburn. So Brewsters Burger in Auburn 5pm tomorrow I will not be available and hopefully we'll see a lot of people who want to celebrate Ray's life and hang out with Christina and Thomas and Steve
Speaker D: and
Speaker B: yeah, so that's off the calendar for me,
Speaker C: As it should be.
Speaker A: Well, raise a glass for me. If I had a transporter I'd be there, but the technology isn't quite there.
Speaker C: But you and I have had quite
Speaker A: a wonderful chat and I should make sure that other people who want to get on the net have their opportunity. So I will take my leave and say 7:3 to you on the net. Brian and 9 MUF.
Speaker B: Daniel, you have a wonderful day. As always, appreciate the great conversation with you and it will happen again, I'm sure. N9mufai6us Coffee Breaknet well, it is Hump Wednesday. Hump day. This is the Coffee breaknet where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping. And let's see, just a reminder, Loomis HamFest just about one month away at the historic Loomis train station in Loomis, California. 6am for sellers, 7am for buyers. And I know our club is looking for volunteers. So if you are a club member and would like to volunteer for this event, this is all hands on deck. By the way, volunteers get Free coffee and donut. Wow. Big deal at that time of the morning. So, yep, mark your calendar for the first and largest ham fest in Northern California. That's the historic Loomis train station. The Loomis ham Fest Saturday, March 28 and more information on w6ek.org website. I know a lot of people travel from all over northern part of California and Nevada. I think even some folks come down from Idaho for this. So we'll look forward to seeing you there. Coffee Breaknet is going to be there. We're going to be wandering around doing interviews with people and finding out what's for sale and talking to interesting people as part of the net that day. It's kind of a fun almost a broadcast. But we don't broadcast on ham radio, do we? Good morning. Coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater. Let's take a round of quick in and outs as you start your day. Who's out there this morning?
Speaker D: Kilo Oyster 6 Kilo Mike Romeo over.
Speaker B: Back alley there.
Speaker A: That's Larry. I don't know how that sword is breaking.
Speaker D: Yeah,
Speaker A: Gary somebody.
Speaker B: Somebody from the Fireside now.
Speaker A: East coast hub.
Speaker B: Fireside Network or East coast hub? I think you're operating with a box turned on. Kind of a heads up please.
Speaker D: KO six km.
Speaker B: Let's see what they're up to. Hey, do we have anyone monitoring the Fireside network? We were getting somebody keying up on a vox, I believe. All right, we have K06 KMR. Good morning, Robert. And let's go ahead. I'm going to put another call out there. Anybody for a quick in and out as you start your day? This is the Coffee breaknet on the W6ek repeater and connected repeaters.
Speaker C: Tp for in and out.
Speaker B: Hey, good morning or Good afternoon, Tony. SM6XGP. All right, let's check in first with Robert. KO6KMR. Good morning, Robert. What do you have for the net? Morning.
Speaker D: Well, good morning, Brian. I've already been to the gym this morning so I got that out of the way this morning. Karen and I are going to be going to a travel agent today to check on maybe a little bit of a European vacation and later on in the year and otherwise. I mentioned yesterday about having an oscillator with some problems with it and all. I got into the. Got into the system itself and found
Speaker B: that it had been looked at before
Speaker D: and rewired it a little bit and did a little bit of soldering. Did it look like it was bad? It's working now. So I guess we come back up and going again.
Speaker B: Over. Well, very good. Good troubleshooting, good fixed and yeah. Cleaned up somebody else's cold solder joints maybe. Well, here's some travel advice for heading over to Europe. Make sure that you sew Canadian flags on all of your luggage and maybe on your vest.
Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, I quite understand that. Yeah. When we went over to Australia here not too long ago, I said that I was from Canada and no one took offense to that. Over.
Speaker B: It's an interesting time we live in. Absolutely love our Canadian cousins and just gotta remember to throw a. On the end of everything. I'm joking, of course. Stereotypical.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: I'm not sure when we're going to go and where we're going to go yet.
Speaker D: Just going to go get some ideas and this and that. But we do want to get out of the, out of the country a little bit and see some other stuff for a while and go from there. Still studying. The extra went through the class yesterday and that was good. Just more to make my head spin, but I am getting it under my belt.
Speaker B: Over. Well, glad to hear you're going for that upgrade and getting that studying done and we'll look forward to hopefully being part of your upgrade process. Well, yeah, I think Lynn and I probably will be doing a trip over to the Philippines before the end of this year, but that, yeah, I have a strong desire to head on over to Europe and I'd really like to do a riverboat cruise. One of the smaller riverboats, you know, one of the ones that maybe are a 35 or so cabin. I just would love to kind of maybe go through some of these smaller rivers and tributaries and just, you know, take a nice relaxing couple of weeks. So we've been looking at a couple of those cruises and they just look absolutely fantastic. But it's something you really have to plan well in advance because they are usually booked into the next season pretty solidly during the good months.
Speaker A: I can tell you the smaller ships
Speaker D: or boats are a great thing. We went over to Galapagos about five years ago, I guess and did a, did a roundabout of the whole area on a small ship. Didn't have more than probably 75 people, 100 people on the thing and just really nice having that small pine shore
Speaker A: comment.
Speaker B: Years ago I was hired to do some beauty shots out of a helicopter of a cruise ship down in the Caribbean and we were, we were on board. I'm trying to think it was almost two and a half weeks, almost three weeks and we would be aboard and Then we would have different helicopters staged along in different places and we would just arrange the shots. The helicopter would pick us up and we would go and get a shot if the conditions were right. And you know I'll tell you I've not been back to a cruise ship since. I'm sure that cruising has really changed over the past 30 years but I gotta tell you, two and a half weeks on the cruise ship and seeing several shift changes. Big cruise ships are not my thing.
Speaker D: No, they're not our thing either. We did a large ship going up to Alaska here pretty good while back and you know it wasn't bad but it just wasn't for us over
Speaker B: you know that's one cruise I have not taken and I know several people who check in on the coffee breaknet have done the Alaska cruise and great. I mean the beauty up there is just fantastic and it's in our own backyard but yeah, gotta, gotta put that one on the short list as well.
Speaker D: That's true. It was a place beautiful trip. We did kind of a sea land thing up there so you know it was a bit of both but. But we spent a couple of extra days in Vancouver when we came back so that's always nice just to thaw it over.
Speaker B: Yeah used to really enjoy the San Juan Islands when I lived up there. Portland. I would take my boat up and sail in the San Juans in the fall and just absolutely love that. And of course you get over to Victoria Island Boutique Gardens and Victoria just you know in the museums just wonderful experience. Well Robert, I should move on to Tony before Tony. He's probably holding off on having his dinner over in Sweden until he can get checked in but pleasure chatting with you this morning.
Speaker D: Yes it is and on that Brian I'm going to sign out Kilo Oster 6kilo Mike Romeo and and I'm going to call it quits and pick up Karen and maybe head down to the
Speaker B: travel agent over planning your own European vacation. Hopefully it goes better than Chevy Chase's. Have a great day clearing with K06 KMR. Let's head over to visit Tony over in Sweden. Sugar Mike 6x Ray Golf Papa Good morning Earth. Good afternoon Tony.
Speaker C: Yeah Good morning everyone. 660p here. Yeah you are definitely welcome over here if you want but don't forget to take umbrella with.

Speaker A: You
Speaker B: today it's quite cold weather outside, but not, not raining. So it's good. And we are waiting for the spring to start over here. We are tired of this winter thing. Yeah, over here it's quite much going on. Just finished podcast production and sent it up on Dropbox for review from the team and see if I have forgot something or messed something up or said something stupid. So that's up for review and may be published on Friday. So that's cool and nice to do. Always nice to play around with audio sometimes. And then yeah, I think going on here. Not much to talk about. The dinner is on its way. It will be some. I think it will be a hamburger today. If I can find something to put on there. Maybe some cheese or onion or other good stuff. Let's see what. What I can find. That's what's going on over here. Brian, back to you.
Speaker A: Okay, I am going to see what the great Google Oracle has to say about you. I'm just doing a search for your name and podcast and see what it comes up with here. What might I find?
Speaker B: I think you may find on Spotify you can find the podcast from our federation or what it's called, I think called Federation for Blind People over here in Gothenburg. A local club there producing their podcast. And I was also a member of another team earlier and they produced a podcast for blind people interested in tech, tech things, assistive technology and computers and all that good stuff. And I was in that team a while. So maybe my old stupid old podcast from middle of 2000s or something should show up. I hope not. I haven't done anything in English so you may not understand anything from that. But I think you will find a couple of productions over there.
Speaker A: Will it says Tony, I'll eliminate your last name. I know people can look you up. A radio amateur with 25 years experience is featured in an episode of the Swedish podcast and a sympotom. And let's see, between Antenna and Earth, what's the translation? So that's what Google associates with your AI. This episode focuses on his role as an amateur radio operator discussing the role of a radio in a globalized world and his experience navigating this hobby with visual information. So there you go. That's how Google knows you.
Speaker B: Yeah, completely correct. That POD is from the National Federation of the Blind over here and they have a podcast called Sinpodden. As you saw there, it's very. It's not a regular POD podcast. They publish some something when they like to and they made an interview with me there about ham radio and if it's still usable and if you can use it in this modern age of Internet or. And all that stuff. And we talked about the emergency communication and how you can communicate without Internet. If everything goes down, the radio is still relevant. So we talked about that a little bit and also a little bit of how you can manage to operate some radio stations. There are more and more touch screens and all that stuff. And I show them the alternative firmware of for example the TYT UV390 which have completely talking menus and all that stuff. So yeah, it was a nice episode to be involved in. And then I think the raw material was over one hour and how the presenter there, Isabel is her name. How she managed to cook that down to 20 minutes, I don't understand, but she managed to do was a very nice episode. So it's only in Swedish, but it was nice to do that.
Speaker A: Well, that is fascinating that you had that and was able to discuss those items of relevance to amateur radio. Very cool. Well, Tony, I learn a little bit more about you every day and always great to chat with you. Enjoy the last part of winter. Well, no, that lasts until July, doesn't it? Oh man. We have Fireside Network and again, let me go ahead and drop Fireside here standby at this point. I hate to drop Fireside, but. Yeah, too much interference this morning. Well, good morning to you. Throw it back over to you there. I didn't know if you heard me, but back over to you, Tony there for a final.
Speaker B: Yeah, I copy.
Speaker A: Fine, no problem.
Speaker B: And the Fireside transmission was more packet loss than voice, but no problem to hear you. Yeah, I have been in media of some sort of from 96. I was working for producing together with a big team. We produced talking newspapers for blind people and I worked there for 10 years and then I was off the media thing for a couple of years and now I'm back in podcasting and that's. That's cool. Have a nice day, Brian. It was in and out and I think it was a little bit longer than that. And I'm off to kitchen to try to build some hamburger here. Have a nice day, salmon free and talk to you later and bye from cold windy Gothenburg AI6 US SM6XCP. I'm clear and salmon free.
Speaker A: My hat's off to you. 30 years in media production. That is a good. Actually a pretty good stint that you have going there. That's awesome. Well, one more question for you before I let you go, Tony. I know you Know, many parts of the world, they're called steak burgers or just ground beef. But is hamburger a term that you've garnered from American English or do they actually call hamburger ground up beef over there?
Speaker B: I think we only say hamburger. I never heard of the term ground up beef, so. And from what I understand, it's originated from, from Germany, but I'm not sure about that. So I never heard about the term ground up beef. So yeah, maybe you have right there. And we say hamburger and yeah, it's some beef. I don't know what the correct English word for it is, but it tastes good.
Speaker A: It was funny, Lynn said when you first moved to America, I mean, this is 30 some years ago, very confused when she went into the store and she wanted to shop for ground beef and all she could find was hamburger. And she of course knew ham as being pork. So she was very confused. And you know, why would you call ground beef hamburger? Those little, those little, those little verbiages that we use that interesting when you think about how it got that way. Tony, have a wonderful day. As always, great to chat with you. Sm6x gp ai6us.
Speaker B: Yes, Tommy. I think that's from what I heard, it's from Germany and Hamburg is the town there that they made these. That's what I have heard, but not sure if that's correct. You had a comment there that you double with, so you maybe check in with him also. Have a nice day. Seven free over here and off the kitchen here. 76 XGP clear. Seven free.
Speaker A: All right, Tony, you have a wonderful day. And yes, I believe somebody who knows a lot about ground up beef. W2VX. What do you got, Doug?
Speaker C: Good morning, Brian and everybody else. Yeah, being from Iowa, I should know everything about ground up beef. But there is a distinction, although it's frequent, that people use hamburger and ground beef interchangeably. But hamburger starts out as ground beef generally.
Speaker A: Then
Speaker C: the people who produce hamburger will add fat into it, sometimes preservatives and sometimes grains of different types in order to retain the fat that they add to it. Especially if you're making hamburgers or ground patties or something like that. But ground beef starts out sort of all natural and it's generally pretty lean. And then if you want a lot more fat in it, you get more fat in it and that becomes hamburger.
Speaker A: Ground beef with added fat becomes hamburger. That's very interesting. So McDonald's, do they still refer to horse meat as hamburger?
Speaker C: Well, I think that that's a trade secret and I'm not really going to get into that. But I do know if you go to some places like for instance, if you get a pizza at Papa Murphy's and you order it and you ask them to have hamburger on it, they'll tell you we don't use hamburger here. We use ground beef because they don't add fat. So it's a very lean. It's a very lean product. And of course you can get hamburger with all kinds of different fat content because a really good hamburger on your grill generally starts out with lots and lots of mixed in fat. Yummy, yummy.
Speaker A: Oh my gosh. Only a good old boy from Iowa could have filled me in on that one. I just always assumed that hamburger with different levels of fat in it was just by the trimming to get it to that point rather than addition to. Thank you Doug. I've learned something today. I feel smarter.
Speaker C: I don't know if you're smarter Brian, but you informed. I hope you're not ill informed but I think I'm gonna jump on my bicycle. Or maybe I'm just gonna play with Connor this morning because I told him I would take him over to tractor supply company and we would get some corn. Speaking of Iowa so we could feed the squirrels outside the window. Seven three is Brian. Thanks for letting me in.
Speaker A: Oh man, that sounds fun. Spending the day with your grandkid and going to get corn and feeding the squirrels going to be a. You know, he's getting to that point where this will be a memory with grandpa. That's pretty cool, Doug. Have a great day. Thank you for everything you do to support the club and I appreciate you and Tom puzzling over what happened to the voter system this morning. I know you're working on it. We will get it resolved. You have a wonderful day.
Speaker B: Hmm.
Speaker A: Hamburger is just ground beef. Beef with added fat. Hoof Funkin. Thanks seven three. Good morning coffee breaknet. I'm Brian AI6us and I'm ground beef with added fat I guess. Coffee breaknet. Let's go ahead. Boy. We're getting very close to 10am Join us tomorrow when Theta WA6EWF and Jerry WA6E will be your net control host and conversation facilitators. And this is actually my Friday so yeah, these last couple check ins here will be my rush for the door. You know, remember that when you used to work in a cubicle and 3 o' clock Friday afternoon and the clock hands would slow down getting closer to five o' clock they'd go slower and slower and slower. Not saying that's happening right now, but it is my Friday, so you don't want to buy the car that I'm assembling right now. Good morning. Coffee breaknet. Let's take some more check ins. Quick in and outs are for the log. We'll open it up now. Now,
Speaker D: Kilo Charlie 6 here.
Speaker A: Lima Echo with a quick recheck. Good morning, Brian. W8LDT for the log only.
Speaker C: Good morning, Brian.
Speaker A: And the next for the log only. November 6th, Mike Echo Delta, aka N6 Medium.
Speaker B: Okay, In and out.
Speaker A: Whiskey bravo, three, charlie, sierra, yankee for the lagoni. Thank you, brian. Ai6lz for the log. K4lgi for the log. All right, I'm going to just stop it right there and we'll come back and grab some more folks there in a moment. And let's see, let me just try making some sense of all this. K4LGI. Good morning, Sam. Got you in the log and you have a wonderful day ahead in Denver. Good morning to Bert. Ai6lz, got you in the log. Thanks for checking in this morning and Good morning, Rick. WB3CSY got you in the log. You have a great day ahead. I heard a voice in there that I recognized. Sounded like Talia, but you were doubled on full call. Talia, remind me please.
Speaker B: Kilo Mike 6, Uniform, Mike Yankee,
Speaker A: Kilo Mike 6, Tango, Mike Yankee. Good to hear you, Talia. And were you going to be in and out or just a log this morning?
Speaker B: In and out.
Speaker A: Okay, we'll be back to you in just a moment. And I heard a station ending in India, November, I think it might have been Tin. But full call, please. Was that N5T I N Steve?
Speaker D: Indeed, Brian.
Speaker A: Quick in and out. Okay, Steve, I'll get you in just a moment. And got Mike in there. Mike, your audio is very low again. We're gonna have to work on that. KM6mm, got you in the log. Good morning, Jimmy. KA3VGM, got you in the log as well. You have a wonderful day. Jim, N6 Med, got you in the log. Thanks for checking in. And Tim, W8LDT, you're in the log. Thank you so much for checking in this morning. And let's see, let's go ahead. And before the in and outs, let's do the recheck with Graydon. KC6SOLE. Go ahead, Graydon.
Speaker D: Thank you, Brian. A quick story on ground beef I used to buy. I used to split the full cow. It was raised in Shingle Springs by rancher who was a friend of the family. Used to split it with another gentleman in Concord, and we'd have a local meat market in Shingle Springs actually butcher the cow. But one year, I decided I just wanted my whole half in hamburger. I wanted the whole thing made into hamburger. It packs easier in the freezer. We used a lot of hamburger in those days for spaghetti and lasagna and
Speaker A: other dishes when the kids were small.
Speaker D: So I told the butcher I wanted the whole thing made into hamburger. And he looked at me and he
Speaker A: says, why would you do that? I said, for convenience. Because I can. I'm buying it. And he goes, I won't do it. And he didn't do it. So that's when you bought your own meat grinder. How did that.

Speaker A: I don't care what they told you. I didn't do it. But I heard there's 10 witnesses. Well, there's 11 counting me, but. What's going on?
Speaker B: Sorry, just by late. I'm back home. Just breakfast at a local ham sweat change hasn't been wet for a long time.
Speaker C: Oh, all right.
Speaker D: So I didn't know if you're on your corner
Speaker B: or what your.
Speaker A: One. I'm sorry. Well, at this point, I can still do pretty much everything here on my end. I don't need to teamview into you or anything like that. I'm trying to figure out another way to do it without you having to pull your SD card. So I've been a little bit busy with other stuff this morning. But later this afternoon for me. That's already one o' clock for me. Well, anyways, here shortly I'll be able to redirect my activities over to ham radio. No, no
Speaker B: problem, Kim. I'm just hanging around today, so. No problem. Whatever works out for you. All right, well, let's get back to the other.
Speaker A: All right, I'll talk to you later. Oh, Larry, turn up your volume on your 84 just in case. When I do get myself situated, I'll probably just give you a yell over there.

Speaker A: pretty fast. It's. It's similar enough to Android. It's not a big deal. Yeah, I think that's all I got for you. Oh. So tomorrow you go down to Chico. All right, well, I'll go. I'll go over to John's after breakfast if you're gonna go to Thunder. All right, well, I'll talk to you early in the morning, so I. We leave about the same time.

Speaker A: This end up. Did you lose a friend?
Speaker B: Oh, I ended up taking home steaks, ribs, the whole package. But he absolutely, positively refused to turn a whole half, you know, all the prime cuts and all that into hamburger. For me, it was an interesting, you know, I didn't have the opportunity to. What am I going to do with half a beef that isn't carved up yet, that isn't dealt with yet? So I had to give in and let him do what he wanted to do and take it home and use it that way. But that's my hamburger story, KC6SLE.
Speaker A: And because of the low fat content, that's your hamburger story. And it's sticking to the skillet. Aye, aye. Ah, get it.
Speaker B: I got it. Very good.
Speaker A: 73 kC6 sle. And that's my brain without breakfast. Imagine how snappy I'd be if I'd eat a good breakfast before this net. Thanks for that story. The butcher would not desecrate that half a cow by making it into hamburger. Interesting. Thanks, Braden. Hey, Good morning, Steve. N5 Tin yeah, good morning, Brian. I heard you were talking earlier about river cruise and just wanted to check in with you real quick and say if you want to get my take on that, because I've done one and I'm getting ready to do a second, I'd be happy to expound on that at length at some point, either during or after the net. Maybe one day early next week. Yeah, I would love your input on that. Absolutely. Yeah, we're, we're considering a smaller boat, something, you know, the ones that carry some bikes that you can lift off and maybe follow along on the trails and meet them at the next stop. You know, just, just a more casual experience where you kind of get to know a smaller group of people and, and if you decide to take a tour, it isn't like, like, well, the slaughterhouse, About 80, 82, 83 for 84 passengers sprinkled in, I think about 40 cabins. So it was a nice experience. From that respect, I will say one
Speaker B: thing about smaller boats is when dinnertime
Speaker A: comes around, you sure hope you like the people you're with because you're going to sit with them a lot. Well, how did that work out for you? Was that a positive experience or you're going to choose your friends at the beginning of the cruise more carefully from now on. Oh, I'd say it was a positive experience. This next one we're going with my in laws, so I don't know how that was going to go. Good one. Well, you must have enjoyed that experience. If you're signed up for another one and taken the in laws with you. All right. Yeah, I'd love to chat more about this when we have time, Steve, so thank you. I appreciate that offer and I will take you up on it. Hey Brian. Well, I'm looking at the clock and seeing that that's probably about ready to wrap up so I'll keep it to that and we'll chat that later. Ai6us5tin78 Brian and Steve, you have a wonderful Wednesday ahead. Happy hump day and thanks for checking in. N5T I N Steve and good morning Talia. I heard you checking in I think over the weekend maybe with Jeff. Good to hear you on again and good to hear that you're pursuing your flight school. I hope that's to going well for you.km6ummy Good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning. Yeah, so recently I've just been prepping for my interview on Saturday. I also have an interview today for Civil Air Patrol which I'm hoping will be good, good practice for Saturday. So that's basically what's been going on with me other than I'm working and doing lots of homework. But yep,
Speaker A: you know, they had the craft fair up at the local cafe a month or so ago and I, you guys, you and your family came to my mind and I did not have time to make it up there to see if you had you were showing or selling items again this year. But so yeah, I've been hoping that you would check back in and we would certainly like to follow along with your path there and you know, like to see you follow that passion for becoming a pilot. Very cool. Do you have any friends or any acquaintances of your family that are pilots?
Speaker C: I have two great uncles that were pilots. One of them, I think he passed away probably like 10 years ago, so I can't really talk to him. But the great uncle on my mom's side, I've called a couple times to ask like questions. So he's been a really helpful resource.
Speaker A: Well, good to hear and I'm glad to hear that you are. You're going after the Civil Air Patrol and join that and wish you well. So the interview that's coming up this weekend, is that for a ground school in Auburn or what will that interview be for?
Speaker C: Yeah, so that would be. It's the Auburn Aviation association scholarship. So that one would be for flight training in Auburn.
Speaker A: Oh, that's awesome. I didn't realize that that was for a scholarship program. That would be super awesome. Well, you Know, we have a couple members of our club who are very active fliers and wasn't sure if you would like me to introduce you to them and you can have a conversation with them and they might be a good resource for you at some time in this past.
Speaker C: Yeah, absolutely. That would be really helpful.
Speaker A: Okay. Well, I don't know if you have access to qrz qrz.com but if you look up my call sign on qrz.com, you'll have my email address dropped. You know, just you or your family. Drop me an email and I will do my best to introduce you. There's a couple people who fly daily that are in the area that, you know, I know they really are interested in helping folks get into flying. And, yeah, I'd be happy to see if I could make an introduction for you. And these are members of our club, and I've known these folks for quite some time. So be happy to make that introduction if you'd like to reach out to me.
Speaker C: Okay, I'll definitely do that.
Speaker A: All right. Yep. So qrz.com and if you have any problems, you know, getting my information out there, I'd be happy to provide you my phone number as well. If you or your family want to call me. And we'll just try connecting you up a couple people. I'll chat with them first and let them know of your interest and. And make sure that they are, you know, on board as well before I make that introduction. I'll be happy to do that. And. Yeah, very good. Well, Talia, one quick question. Did your family. Did your siblings end up participating in the craft fair again this year at the local cafe?
Speaker C: They did. I didn't since I'm 18 now, so I technically can't participate in it. But I did visit them and they. Let's see, they were selling a lot of stuff. I think. So, yeah, my family was there. I wasn't actually there for most of that day, though.
Speaker A: Oh, you aged out of their. Their requirements. Got it. Well, Talia, a pleasure to chat with you. We're overtime right now, so I need to get moving along and get the net closed up. But a pleasure to have you drop by and hope to hear you on more often. If your ears were burning, I think it was at the Christmas party. Somebody had mentioned if anybody had heard how you were doing. And so if your ears were burning, people were saying kind stuff. So there you go.
Speaker C: Well, that's always nice to hear. 73.
Speaker A: All right, you have a wonderful day and wish you well on your on your interviews for the Civil Air Patrol today and then the scholarship program. That would be. That would be awesome. So keep us updated. Really appreciate it. KM6ummy, AI6US and clearing Natalia. Let's go ahead. And I think that was it for four are in and out. So let's just go ahead and wrap up the net this morning with four of the logs. So anybody out there who wants to get in the log as we shut down the coffee breakdown for this Wednesday? Ki6tc, kv6ed, Kn 6 Good morning. Kilo oscar six echo, bravo quebec. It'll be warm and It'll be nice. KB7 DSP. Oh, it pains me only to talk lentil soup and egg and other things with you. We'll get back to the. The fun stuff one of these days. Good morning, Ken. Speaker B: And it looks like that that kin disconnected from us, so we did not drop him. For the record, AI6US.
Speaker A: It's luv.
Speaker B: Just was listening and you might check gmrs repeater book online. There's a list of gmrs repeaters by regions, areas, etc. Kb6 luv clear. Yeah, unfortunately Beth will not hear that because she was coming through Ken's repeater up in Twin Falls, Idaho through his note. So I think he just shut down the connection with our node and he's conversation direct with her. So that message was not received. But I did hear her on yesterday. So she may be back here. So it might be information you might share with her. Thank you very much, Brett. Always a pleasure, Brian. I have little to pay forward, but in the radio world. But what little I know I will be happy to pass along. Ai6us.kb6luv. Have a great day, Brian. Take care. You as well. Looking to see a little red all decked out with ham radio antennas. Speaker A: Yeah, just wondered if everything went well yesterday with your food pickup and drop off and if you need any more help.
Speaker B: Yeah, I got a chance to meet Thomas or not meet him, but see him again and picked up the stuff and then tied in with Jim and then we met up later in the day at the church and left the donation there.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, if there's any other needs, you know, for the truck or whatever, give a, give a holler. But thank you so much.
Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. I know there's a bunch of us in the club that are available for things, things that come up kind of short termish and not a problem. I know Frank was offering but he had a conflict with Thomas's schedule yesterday so. Yeah, it just all worked out. I was home and available. However, I will say unfortunately that I'm going to miss the, the time to spend together tomorrow because tomorrow is the day I head back to work and so I'll be out, out of town for two days and then back after that.
Speaker A: Don't you hate when life gets in the way of things we want to do? Alright, well, yeah, we will miss seeing you there, but yeah, I'm definitely, definitely gonna make it there. God willing.
Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. Still haven't figured out how to have them just send me a check and me stay home. So guess I'll pack it up and head off to the salt mine and you know, enjoy the, the results of doing that. Hi. Hi.
Speaker A: You're getting close. So we both are getting closer and closer to that magical check just appearing in our box for doing nothing other than paying into it for all of our life. All right, well, I'm gonna go grab something to eat, but thank you so much. Appreciate everybody chipping in on this one. And I know you've, you've helped Ray in the past as well and just glad we can be there for the family. Absolutely. But thank you.
Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. I enjoyed Ray having been around the club for lots of years and never really got into, you know, a club officer role or anything like that because I always viewed my schedule as kind of limiting. Don't have, you know, a Monday through Friday or a schedule like that. It jumps around and then end up taking special project work and I'm gone for a week or two weeks or something like that. And I just have of viewed that as prohibitive. So a lot of times during the meetings I would, you know, I was floating around in the back and I You know, rub elbows with Ray and chat and always get a word in when we signed in at the meetings and stuff. So, yeah, it was just, you know, felt like helping out a buddy or a friend, you know, that's. That you've known for a long time. Yep.
Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. And then always somebody who had something to contribute to a conversation and. Yeah, just a heck of a nice guy. Well, I'm going to get out of here starving. And nature is suggesting she has need of me. Have a good one, Bob, and thank you again. N6EMS A I6US.
Speaker B: And another thing, we're going to need a hole filled for Friday night trivia. T because Ray was always involved in that. And, yeah, that'll be a absence that's definitely felt there. So, anyway, especially the informal bring your own question trivia nights, Those were always a hoot. So, anyway, all right, Brian, go. Go get some grub and make a pit stop on the way and we will catch up with you on another day. N6EMS
Speaker A: no. Well, a lot of people are passionate about trivia. He definitely was a factor behind. Well, if Simone and Dawn can't be here, we're going to make it happen. So, yeah, I'm sure there's some others out there. I know you and Frank and, you know, there are a lot of people participate in it, so I'm sure there will be other people who are just going to make sure it always happens. Talk to you later. Ai6us.

Speaker A: K6lnk system 36, snow mountain range. N6til in the Shasta Valley. Listening. Yes. N6 India Whiskey Hotel, I think name here is Kevin Kiloecho Victor Indian November in the Shasta Valley between Weed and Yreka. And the call sign's N6TIL. Just trying out a new radio here. Seeing. Seeing if I can get into distant repeater. So sounds like it might be working.
Speaker B: You know, I was gonna say
Speaker A: your
Speaker B: signal is almost perfect. Really. The audio is good and loud the way I like it. You're full quading into the machine. I mean what kind of radio is.
Speaker A: This is the newer Yaesu 85 watt radio, the 3185 with the AST enhanced receiver function. So just got it hooked up here and put it on the SWR watt meter and everything looks good. So just going through repeater book here trying to find something out in the distance. So am I correct that I'm. Where is this mountaintop? Am I going out on Stony Ford is what I can tell.
Speaker B: Yeah, I've heard Stony Ford before, but I don't know. I know there's a local PL and a link Pl and often users are advised to keep it short or go away. So anyway, I like the Lincoln system. You meet people. It's great ham radio camaraderie, you know what I mean?
Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. Well, thanks for coming back to me. It's partly sunny up here. We just got done with a couple days of rain but cleared up and it's a beautiful day here. Give me your. Give me your first name. I caught the call sign but I didn't get your name again. Name here is Kevin.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's Papa, Echo, Tango, Hecko or Peter. I mean, you know, I'll respond to a lot of different things, but yeah, really that's. You've got a crank and signal just absolutely perfect. What kind of antenna? Before you go.
Speaker A: Yeah, Pete, this is a. I think It's a diamond F22. It's a mono band, 2 meter vertical. It's about 10ft tall, white fiberglass. I think I got the model number right there. They claim it's a little over 6 decibels of gain, but you know how that goes. But yeah, I'm on a little bit of a hill here, so I've got a little bit of elevation and pretty low noise floor here. So yeah, I'm getting the repeaters coming back with a little, I'd say about 20, 30% white noise, but perfectly readable.
Speaker B: Sounds good. Real ham radio.
Speaker A: Yeah, this thing is a tank. It's like a huge heat sink that they added a radio to. Pretty impressive. So anyway, run in here at 85 watts and talk with you. And it's just barely getting warm, so. Anyway, hey, Pete, enjoy your day. Thanks for coming back to me and hopefully we'll talk again. Looking you're having some nice weather down there. Take care. 73N6 til Shasta Valley.
Speaker B: Okay, talk at you later.

Speaker A: W6TNH, KN6T80,
Speaker B: WP6AXN
Speaker A: repeater. Yeah, Ted, go ahead. W6TNH.
Speaker B: I just spent the last hour with your kids looking at. Looking for a spot for a repeater.
Speaker A: Come back again? I didn't quite catch all that.
Speaker B: Sorry. I just spent the last hour with Jeff looking for a spot for a repeater for a school.
Speaker A: Well,
Speaker B: that's
Speaker A: very cool. Yeah. How'd you guys do?
Speaker B: I think you got it dialed in.
Speaker A: Oh, well, that's cool. I didn't know he was working on a project, but that sounds like it's right up his alley, too.
Speaker B: Yeah, they're having some coverage issues at one of the schools and we're going to fix it with a nice little repeater.
Speaker A: Oh, well, that's cool. I'll be glad to see how that project gets done and everything. Yeah, thanks for reaching out. Are you guys going to be on a. On a tower somewhere or what did you find?
Speaker B: No, we're just going to use one of the racks inside the school and just punch up through the roof with a weather head and put it up there. It doesn't have to cover a large area and I'm probably only going to run about 25 watts.
Speaker A: Very interesting. Yeah, well, that's cool. So I'll ask Jeff about that and see. Let me
Speaker C: drop here. Okay. I had a timer
Speaker A: reminding me I've got some soup on I need to check, but. Yeah, go ahead.
Speaker B: Hey, you go and deal with that. I just wanted to let you know that I met up with him and had a good conversation and he asked if I knew you and I said absolutely. I know I know him.
Speaker A: Yeah, you guys have probably been at a fox hunt together or something. I remember that day you gave me a tour around your truck. He might have been there in the park, but anyway. Yeah, well, thanks for. Thanks for letting me know. I enjoyed hearing about that. Okay, well, I'll talk to you soon. W6P NH
