Speaker A: Can I get a radio check? I was with another channel one time just now and they said no audio. Go ahead.
Speaker B: Time to get out here. K86p and south monterey county.
Speaker A: I have a cousin who lives in Monterey. South Monterey County. That'd be all the way down to Big Sur, I think. Where are you?
Speaker B: The happening little middle of nowhere town of San Ardo. Like very south end of the farming area and in the county on 101,
Speaker A: Monterey. You're on Earth, aren't you? In Salinas, if you're on 101 Highway 1 goes through down that way, the coast way. But if you're on 101, that'd be around Salinas. Selena. Well, maybe that, that's. Maybe I didn't know that, but Salinas in Monterey County. I thought Selena said its own county. I forgot.
Speaker B: No, next county over to the east would be San Benito and that's where Hollister is. Now Salinas is in Monterey county. And the farming lands go from like, like south of Salinas for a good like 50, 60 miles or so. Getting pretty close to the end of it before I cross over into San Luis Obispo county and Casa Robles and all that.
Speaker A: I used to travel up that. The highway to so many dams. Oh, man, I used to go to school in Berkeley and I grew up and lived in Santa Maria. So yeah, I grew up in Santa Barbara county. Right there on the borderline there. And then next county, 700 bows in Monterey. Then you could have been there, Gilrod, stuff like that after everything else. So yeah, well, I, you know, back in the 70s there was nothing out there except for one little town 10 miles off, just five miles off. 101, I think it's called. I think you just said it. Oh, maybe not. You're on 101. Then you turn to the left and you go down dirt road. Little town out in the middle of nowhere. One bar out there that said something Bernard or thing or something like that. But anyways, yeah, we were going down over there. I used to live in Pastor Robles for about a month and I know Tascadero and all that stuff.
Speaker B: Unfortunately, I lost about half of that, what you said there. Because I'm going in and out of the covers of four right now. So I'm going to lose the Greenfield repeater here pretty quick. I think I'm going to come up on San Luis Obispo. That'll be about maybe 10, 15 minutes or so before I can reach that one. That's 26.
Speaker A: I know where Greenfield is. Okay. All right. All right. Give me a call if. I'll give you about 15 minutes. And where did you just send those? Well, way out there in the desert, what I call it anyway. Wonder where that comes in at. I never hopped computers like that that on 101, but okay, Get to work.
Speaker B: WB6JK mobile about to lose this site. Mike, I'm going to try to come up on Sam Lewis in about 10, 15 minutes with them out of the mountains here.
Speaker C: Hey, JKV, why didn't you tell me 10 was intermittent? I thought we would have deduced that.
Speaker A: No, well, you know, I don't know.
Speaker C: So, yeah, I tested it one night briefly, and it seems to be intermittent. So it's the PA after.
Speaker B: Pretty sure.
Speaker C: So there you go. Grog, if you can copy, I need you to check something for me down on 29, so I'll be with me at 670ft.
Speaker A: K6vzd mobile w e6a x n repeater.
Speaker B: Kk6syv mobile. Chris, how are you this evening?
Speaker A: Oh, doing all right, thank you. I gotta remember tomorrow morning not to come to work first thing in the morning, but to go down to CalPERS and finalize my pension retirement submission. Yeah, I've got like, there are four different things that I have to do that with Social Security is done. I did one the other day that is going to require me to finish the paperwork off and submit it to them. But at least the application is in and the calpers. And then there's one more so I can continue to get many. Yep, yep.
Speaker B: Don't want any delays.
Speaker A: Yeah, no, I'm just. Well, I don't spend all my days thinking about it, but every once in a while I think, oh, after the end of March, I'll be able to do. If I want to do something in the middle of the week, I'll be able to do something in the middle of the week.
Speaker B: Yep, your schedule would be your schedule. You don't have to worry about somebody else telling you what to do anymore. Except for the wife.
Speaker A: Yeah. Interesting. I'm not exactly sure what they're doing, but our management team sent out a questionnaire about, you know, your employees. They want to put it on a web page, you know, sort of a get to know your co workers thing. And they sent it to me and my manager came and said, hey, Chris, I need you to submit that too. And I'm sitting there thinking why I'm only going to be here another a month.
Speaker B: Yeah, he's just dotting his eyes and crossing his teeth, I guess.
Speaker A: Yeah, I think that he was getting some pressure from his manager. You know, I want all that information on everybody. I don't think he specifically sent me, but he just said, I want, you know, I want that information from everybody in your, in your group. So, you know, I'm still part of the group, so they still want it. But.
Speaker B: Yeah, by the time they get done getting it all together and getting it ready to put on the website, you
Speaker A: won't need New York. Yeah. I think the first question is, what's, what's your official job title and what do you find, you know, really interesting about your current job? And I'm like, how in the world am I going to put down, I don't find anything interesting about my current job. So I put down my job title and then I just put down, after having worked for the county for 21 years, now I'm really looking forward to retirement. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker B: You put in your time to run.
Speaker A: Yeah. Be interesting to see what the reaction to that answer is. I mean, I didn't. I wasn't snarky about it. I just was like, you know, I've done my time and it's now time. Looking forward to retirement, and I am.

Speaker A: Well, we got police over by the Holiday Inn here with their lights flashing. I wonder what's going on.
Speaker B: Who knows these days whether they're, you know, got a call about homeless or got just something else going on, you know.
Speaker C: Yeah, sitting here at the intersection making
Speaker A: sure that I don't get run over by somebody that isn't quite sure what the right of way rules are.
Speaker B: There's right away rules.
Speaker A: That's what I was already.
Speaker B: It doesn't always seem like anybody follows them anymore.
Speaker A: Hey, guys.
Speaker B: Dave, was that you? We can barely make you out.
Speaker C: Yeah. How's that any better? It sounds like there's got some power line noise up there on the hill again.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's definitely better. How you doing, Dave?
Speaker C: I do okay, Les. Just sitting here wrapping up the day here at the house.
Speaker A: I was wondering. I was out earlier today outside the government center and tried keying up and it didn't seem like I was. I was tripping the repeater. So I was kind of wondering if, if it was offline.
Speaker C: No, not offline.
Speaker A: There's just.
Speaker C: It's a high power line noise up there. I heard it on less and I heard it coming and going
Speaker A: up.
Speaker C: Making a trip up there. Go find it. Because nobody else seems to be able to at the moment.
Speaker A: Yeah, okay. All right. Well, is it, is the weather good enough for you to do that?
Speaker C: Yeah, well, that's probably part of the other problem is this. That road has got to be a real mess up there right now from all the rains and the know, the heavy rains they've had. I'm sure it's washed stuff down and broken some stuff loose because that road's not maintained at all.
Speaker A: So. Dave, did you ever get to spend any time in Germany?
Speaker C: Nothing I can brag about.
Speaker A: All right, well, my wife and I went down to Bavaria while we were down there and we got to visit Hitler's eagle's nest down there. And the bus takes you up to a certain spot and then parks and you get off and you have to get on special buses. When they built it, they had to blast a, a one lane road up the rest of the way to the top and it's not terribly wide and they have these special buses and it's only a one lane road so they have to, they have to regulate, you know, uphill, downhill. And these buses have triple redundant brake system.
Speaker C: Yeah. For something like that. Sounds like they should. Well, the, the tram that goes up to the upper side over there on the buttes has a dead man braking system on it. The Cable breaks and it locks it up and clamps, you know, to the rails.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's like triple renungen brakes. They really don't want it. They have any accidents up there and you know, there's not much of a railing. I was sitting on the outboard side up against the window and I pressed my head up against the window and looked down. I could not see the road. All I could see was down a couple thousand feet.
Speaker C: I got a couple of little switchbacks there up on the hills that are similar to that type of thing. Go ahead, Les.
Speaker A: Thank you. I'm just listening, trying to not get
Speaker B: run over out here on the highway.
Speaker C: Where are you right now?
Speaker B: I am at where 99 goes down to two lanes going north directly across from the repeater.
Speaker A: We z axm repeater.
Speaker C: Okay, yeah, I'm hearing it in the background. I was heavy HD here in the house on 1 watt. I switched up to 5. But yeah, there's still some stuff going on up there and they're going to have to do something about it pretty soon.
Speaker B: Yeah, I can direct line of sight, see it from here. No trees, no lines, nothing.
Speaker A: Gentlemen, I have arrived home. So I'm gonna go check my mail. I'm gonna go inside. I don't have to go out for anything tonight, so I'm just gonna go relax. So I'll talk to you about later. 73 KK6VZD clear.
Speaker C: Okay, short timer, we'll see you later.
Speaker A: WD68.
Speaker B: All right, well guys, have a good night. JK6SYB on the side. Good hearing everybody out there. And I'm just about detonated as well. Kilo Oscar 6 probable JK 73.
Speaker C: Have a good evening.

Speaker A: System11 link up.
Speaker B: Hey, you're sounding pretty good. I was going to let you know, but you probably figured it out already. That 10 and NFT. Definitely in the Dixie.
Speaker A: If I was going to be down there anytime soon and had access, I'd go in there and check the antenna for you.
Speaker B: Well, I'm pretty sure it's the PA and I think the fan on the TA conked out. Looking at the notes from, oh, I don't know, what was it, nine years ago or something. It said the fan needed a relay for the fan. It's on all the time. So I'm thinking it, it barfed and then the PA finally did too. So I think, you know,
Speaker A: Oh man, if only I had anything to just direct swap it with.
Speaker B: I'm sure you have. I'm sure you have.
Speaker A: Hardware. I've seen the article. So I imagine just like time and whatnot available, dility and all that.
Speaker B: Yeah, you know, time, money, logistics and a general willingness to go and do it. But besides that. So that thing FSU down there does not get much use. So I'm glad it's working. And am I getting knocked out every few seconds by a control channel or something hitting the link?
Speaker A: Yeah, it was random. It wasn't, it wasn't by any means following a much of a time pattern. There was one first with a couple seconds, the other one was, I don't know, seven or eight, so who knows? But yeah, it sounded like there's something in there.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's a mix. So it all depends on who's talking and when. So what's your destination supposed to be? Sam Lewis, proper.
Speaker A: I've got Fireline refresh training, that's tomorrow. Eight hour day that and then I'll be, I'll be crashing out again and going back up on Friday down in the state vehicle, all the toys, so. But yeah, doing that. Gonna stop by, hang out with a friend who moved out of the Bay Area, spend some time with him and
Speaker B: that's kind of it. Ah, well, cool. Right on. Well, that's nice. I remember those days when, you know, the employer would send you on some training mission and pay for everything and you know, those days are long gone. We're lucky if they even tell us, you know, there's new equipment and how to learn it. You know, it's usually by happenstance and some poor sucker gets to be the first one so they become the, the ME or SME, you know, and subject matter expert that is. And I'm sure you can imagine how it goes. So anyhow all right very good I'm going to go get a bike ride in and get my exercise and you know work on my perilous figure here so I'm gonna jump off but nice hearing you and we'll have to chat later.
Speaker A: Thank you Tom and if you decide
Speaker B: that
Speaker A: you have the gear but don't
Speaker B: have the time I'm willing to go
Speaker A: out and take on the project so let me know what you think that's
Speaker B: what you come up with I'm happy
Speaker A: to put a few hours of time into the Carla again if you want otherwise yeah enjoy I'm just almost at my destination anyway here so I will talk to you soon and hopefully sooner
Speaker B: than later Katie's going to see Ian. Hi Mr. Grog have yourself a fine one and thank you for the offer and trying to figure something out okay so there you go all right mv light. Hey Grog hello and goodbye catch you later there unit enjoy.
Speaker A: Yeah yeah give me a call sometime
Speaker B: damn it
Speaker A: anyway I'm gonna drop here it.

Speaker A: Hello world. E6 VOC mobile in rotor park system 26 link.
Speaker B: Voc mobile here is N6Iwhich chico over.
Speaker A: I told you trapped the other night. You and I could be the oh, the talking club. We're always on this time of the night. While I'm headed at home I got about 15 minutes till I get there. So we're completing putting together proposals for various power sites her working on plants and things. Tomorrow morning though then I'm going out to an old friend's house. She's 82. You can get married to a ham radio buddy I know was 12 and set them up with some wireless Internet. So I got going on. How about you send your Adam by the way down your bumper?
Speaker B: Yeah, I recall we have talked. There's a buzz. I don't know if it's on your signal or the machine but pretty
Speaker A: good,
Speaker B: you know like 20% noise on your signal, over.
Speaker A: Tell you I hear it on yours too. There's not a buzz and I hear it when your audio is going but not with the repeater at the swell scale. So I'm going to imagine something in the fight between you and me. I don't have a lot of intrinsic knowledge on how the designs are put together. This is one of the few things I actually don't have a hand in. Yeah, okay. Roger. Roger.
Speaker B: Well what are you on your way to work right now or on your way home?
Speaker A: I'm on my way home. I work the swing shift so I left the yard around 10 o' clock and just running through South 10 Rose at the moment so I'm actually driving towards the ice repeated where the comp site is gonna fuel the truck up and then hit the A. Told you I got a 8am appointment down the road from me. Help somebody out. Your mom ring the wife of an old friend. She's 82. Helps get the Internet going.
Speaker B: 82, wow, that's good. You know it's nice that you're helping somebody really. I acknowledge that, you know in our society society what they say in our society we don't honor our older folks. I guess you want to just put them in the home and say goodbye. I don't know.
Speaker A: This one, her outfit was a God Godless Child K A6J L P. When's the last time you heard those coming out? And let me tell you what happened. He died in 2019. And I thought I was a friend of the family. Let me word it like this at the funeral service I wasn't a friend of the family. Rather I was a pallbearer that helped lower him into the ground. So you know what I'm saying? In the end, Jesus wife, she's still here. She's 82 and where she lives. So not very many choices for Internet. So we're going to set her up with something. One of the companies being served with I think is getting ready to check out. We're going to set her up with something really soft shell. Okay.
Speaker B: Are you talking about one of those communication devices that they wear around their chest? They hit the button and it's, you know that help. I fall and I can't get up. I can't get up. Is that. It.
Speaker A: Has nothing to do with that whatsoever. This is her Internet service provider. Is company she's with is not lost in this world. At least I believe so. So we're putting her on something else. I be here for more than five hours. So we're going to go out tomorrow and check it out and see how it plays. Do not solve it if it doesn't absolutely kick butt. If you ever get that like, oh yeah,
Speaker B: Well, isp. I've heard of that. I hope it works out. I kind of feel like technology has left me. I'm back here going, hey, wait a minute, what are you talking about? Things, it seems to me get a little bit tougher in that programming of radio really requires concentration.
Speaker A: I mean people have said to me,
Speaker B: how can you, how can you be
Speaker A: a handful of 40 years and not
Speaker B: know how to program your rig over?
Speaker A: Let me tell you why. I took a dam. So what does that make me? 36 years? Hey, let me tell you like this. I. I use photo roller radios. I just spin them up on amp radio frequencies. But because I own a suite of trucks, the software allows me to sit in my AutoCAD computer and then make an adjustment in the prompt for all of the radios at once. And then the radios log in to the host computer via WI fi. Every single one of them has WI FI in it now. And they all check in and get their new programming to code.
Sar buddy the wife will call me to have she was bring her home a gallon of milk because I had drinks in all of hers this morning. That was all that was about.

Speaker A: Yeah, doing okay, Doing okay, no talk. Kind of occupied with family stuff, but gonna head down to Yuma tomorrow morning for the hamvention thing through the weekend so kind of looking forward to getting away and doing that. The weather forecast is going to be in the mid-90s down there tomorrow, so heck of a change. Try that again. Am I, am I making the system? You are now. I didn't copy anything when you last transmission. What's going on?
Speaker B: I heard any.
Speaker A: Anything?
Speaker B: I heard everything. For what it's worth, WB said JKV listening. Good morning guys. System 19 link up.

Supposed to be in the mid-90s down there, so it's going to be a heck of a change. Going to pack my own my sunscreen and my shorts. Now. Something's not working with the ones and zeros. So. Okay, you can hear me Ken73. I'll talk to you later in Southern TND Vix.
Speaker B: Hey, Ralph the Beast. I heard everything on Carla's WP68 KV mobile.
Speaker A: Hey, good morning. Good morning, Mike. Okay, well good. Wasn't sure what's going on. We've been having some problems here on our end because of all the severe weather hitting the mountaintops, but those seem to be resolved now. So glad to hear that. At least we're hitting your guy. Your guys okay? How you been?
Speaker B: Ah, there's a posy cloudy man. I'm hanging in there. Still kind of almost fully recovered from our band's gig on Saturday night. He's like damn man, just got home and all that kind of stuff. But yeah, I'm should be good today finally. But yeah, my ass was dragging yesterday and the day before.
Speaker A: Yeah, I ended up leaving the office around 2 o'clock yesterday. I was feeling like crap. I don't know what the heck it was. I just feel really drained. I'm like, man, I hope I'm not coming down with something. Like I said, I want to do this Hema thing but went home, took a little bit of some meds and laid down and got a really, really good night's sleep. So I feel feel a million percent better today. So I don't know what it was.
Speaker B: Yeah, the wife got something, it's all nasally sinuses and it rolls down her throat and it's kind of making it making her kind of cough and stuff like that, it annoys her more than anybody else, I guess. But finally today she. Because her throats feel a little better, and me being a gentleman, I offered her a throat massage. And, you know, she didn't like that idea. Oh, man.
Speaker A: I'm just gonna let that. I'm gonna let that drop right there, man. I'm not going to take that any place further. Should definitely go down that rabbit hole. Okay, very good.
Speaker B: Yeah, it was just.
Speaker A: I was just out of energy, man. It's like something just drained all the freaking energy out of me. It was just weird. But it's been a lot of. A lot of going on at work with various things and all this ran crap blowing up that's got us going all over the freaking place. You can imagine. So Tiger said some problems that, you know, with my mom is health and everything's kind of got me occupied. So. Hey, just mentally draining. And I just want to try to look forward to getting out of here for a couple days.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, yeah. That ought to be a nice little diversion. Perfect time of the year, so. All right. Let you and Ken see if he's hearing just half of us or are here and everything. So I just wanted to say good morning. And now I'm in the p soup fog here. Zoned by San Francisco Airport, headed to work at B6JK Heavy Mobile, South San Francisco. Go ahead. Ken, if you're in there,
Speaker A: It's Robin. He's having problems.
Speaker B: We're having problems.
Speaker A: Whatever. Okay, man. Take care. Thanks for the shout, man.

Speaker A: Sent me a picture of his bike. And Steve's microphone
Speaker B: sounds terrible. And, and, and, and Larry's telling him it sounds good.
Speaker A: I can barely understand it. That's too basy on the equalizer. What time. What time are you taking off,

Speaker A: that thing's gnarly. The first thing Trevor did when I, when I lived over there on, on Imperial as he brought his two hydraulic stands, you put them underneath the car, it lifts the whole car off the ground. Pretty neat little 110 volt pump. And took off the exhaust system and put on a borla or whatever it was. I don't think it was. Yeah, I think it is a borla. And then. And then the next year for Christmas he bought her The Great Big 4 Inch Tips for to put on the end of it. And that thing is. That thing is crazy
Speaker B: gnarly loud. Yeah. Well, it did make a little
Speaker A: performance difference and the fuel mileage did go up a dinky bit. But she drives it pretty mildly for the most part. She ain't afraid to show you that she
Speaker B: can pass you either. We, we raced down there at the light.
Speaker A: I'm not gonna remember the name of that cross street right there. But you know, just before batteries plus going east, I pulled up alongside her in the vet and I was well over 60 miles an hour. But she was catching me. Yes. Somewhere about 100 miles an hour she probably would have passed me. But the
Speaker B: vet smokes that thing on my line. Yeah, the horsepower and the traction
Speaker A: and she. And she just keeps pressing on it. The tires are smoking and stuff. So yeah, if I was driving that car, it beat the vet. But yeah,
Speaker B: Those things are £4,000. And the big ass brakes, I don't know what they are, but they're.
Speaker A: But they're four pucks in the front, there's no doubt about that. And a huge disc, big. That thing's got 20 inch wheels. Stock too, just like the Laramie.
And six. Candy. Ralph, are you still there? Hey, Kenzie. I think Ralph may have already signed, but I conversated without any loss. And yeah, my head. I heard him all the way from the very beginning. So maybe did you find. What, hiccups? Yeah, I rebooted my. My Internet here at the house and things seeming to be okay. How annoying. But, well, considering the benefits of this, you know, no biggie. All right, switch back over to local. Just want to let you know that if you're hollering or Ralph probably won't hear you. I think he's out of his car by now. Seven three. Good morning. Mobile from on 101 here. All right, Mike, you take care. Talk to you later. N6k Eddie, hear that little syllable that's underneath me? I think I figured out what that was. There's a CO channel box out there in the Central Valley. I think it's up on San Francisco. And they're using it in the morning. There's a couple of their stations that actually tickle the input to 19. That's what we're hearing when I EMP. Oh, well, I do have broadcastify here in the background. That's how I knew my. My Internet was not good. Yeah, you're hearing yourself. You could be hearing yourself there in the background. In my background. No, it was right under my signal. Yeah, Tom and I had discussed it previously and he thought it's the loop back from the link. Just a syllable slipping through. I go, yeah, yeah, but it doesn't do it all the time. If that was it, it would do it all the time. And it doesn't. I said, coincidentally, there's a couple of hot spots out here on Bayshore where I can hear the other machine out there in the Central Valley and I can hear people talking on it after this wind drops. So, yeah, somebody must figure out and some good power and mobile out there to not really compete. But he's definitely there. There he was again. Oh, okay. Yeah, I don't hear it on my end. All right there. M. Yeah, hopefully they'll get that figured out. Okay, I will talk to you later. Good to hear you. Yeah. The only way to really nail it down is to put the actual repeater and carrier squash and be at the other stage case. And he's teeing it up. But details. Right. No big deal. All right, back to local. See you, Ken. WK6JKV.
Dpi is not coming to me. What? Per square inch. Oh.
Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. Well, they get enough for them. I think 20, 26 are going to start doing it again. Even higher horsepower now that they took away all that smog crap.
Speaker B: Excuse my French. Very rarely, I might add.
Now they're telling me March 9th on the screen. Yep. I think Trevor will be gone by the time we get installed. Ski bump stopped by last night. Sometimes he comes up Centerville. So he always comes here? Not always, but, you know, once every couple weeks. And he had a couple of good ideas for mounting that. And the new one only mounts on the ends, too, but it comes with a mounting kit. Give me a minute. I'll be right back in 6MTM.
Speaker A: All right. Of course that thing has a fully adjusted.
Speaker B: I'll make sure. Steve wasn't answering me.
Speaker A: Well, I
Speaker B: upgraded the RV there on two two things I bought. The. Temperature and pressure for the tires, the four four wheel tpms. It's Bluetooth. And. And the other thing I bought for it was the leveling deal does the same thing. It tells you, tells you when your level four green, left, right, front, rear.
Yeah, well, these. These fenders just screw on the end of the valve stem. They're aluminum, and you can get a separate display, but otherwise, you just use your phone. And now they got a deal for your Apple watch. If you have an Apple phone, you can. You can just walk around the trailer and look at your. Your Apple watch and see how far you got to lift it or let it down. Pretty cool. But on keep your daydream, he's got those rockers that you back your both tires at the same time on it. They roll backwards. Lift your side of the trailer up three inches. Well, that's hella nice, man. You go put them back there, and you back up until your. Your phone or your watch is telling you. You in the watch case, if you're back there just putting your stabilizers down and need to touch it up just a little dinky bit. Yeah, you got your watch on right there. You know exactly how high to lift it.
Yeah. And I don't know that the trailer is set up to be actually lifted on it like that. You know, somebody get carried away and. And change tires with it.
Brother. I'm going to check out on the HF paddle. I'll be back.
See, he was listening the whole time. Let me see. Yeah, if I. I finally got this. I see what somebody did there on the adjust in the back. Yeah, I finally seen this thing hitting 550, this little amp this morning. SWRs are good, so it's not a false reading or anything like that.
Speaker A: I never use the alc, so I did twist it up and down and it's up about 1:00 clock now, so I got the max. I didn't play with the back knob, though. Yeah, I never use it. I don't use it on the 101 or the Flex or anything. I don't need a limiting control. I know. I know how to set.
Speaker B: Set the mic gain and all that. Yeah, I don't do that very often.
Speaker A: So what was your highest output?
I seen it over 600 when we put the new pills in it. Yeah, and I barely get 500 out of it since I got it back, so I just figured one of the pills was already out. But. I might have to read the thing. I'll see what the ALC changes on it. I never had to do any of that to it before.
Los Angeles link up.
Yeah. Stepper motors. I watched the video on it. If pulsar make a 15002000 watt amp, I'd buy another. I'd buy. I'd buy it. That. That one that Larry's got now. I just. If, you know, like running half the fuel pedal. 1200 watts. 1200 watts. 1200 watts. Sometimes it would do a little more. It was a nice amp. I was just trying to do your brother a favor. When I got rid of that, that was a good standby amp, but I didn't really need it because I was planning on buying the om, and that took a big chunk of the price out of the omn.
Yeah, yeah, well, he's running different amplifiers, but he, he claims he's always on that. Pals are like, I miss it or something. But I, But I've seen him up there touching on the 20 and, and most of the time when he's running that, that pal star, he's 10 over. So he, he's pumping it way up with a different amplifier. I could tell the difference. Not just the signal, but the sound of it. And saying it's the Paul star. He never stops thinking about me. And through no effort from myself.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Oh,
Speaker B: yeah. And the roof leaks on that addition that they just built on the back. It used to
Speaker A: be in the very front, which was the second add on. Then he moved it back in into the house, first edition, which was the porch, and built all new benches and everything that way it was right next to the bedroom. So when he got bedridden, it wasn't a big deal to talk on the radio. Now he moved it all the way to the back of the house and it's
Speaker B: way far away from the bedroom. O.
Speaker A: I wouldn't do anything devious like that. But, you know, he's younger than me, disrespects me and without retaliation. And I don't know what the other guys think about that. I noticed Terry tries to dogpile on there. John's. John straightened me out this morning about him keying up and rubbing my nose in that. I blew up the flex amp and that was the second day in a row. And so I straightened him out. And John goes, he's just pulling your chain, John. We know what happened with that amp. And I said, I know he's just messing around, but I can't pass up a chance to jab him in the ribs about it.
Speaker A: Yeah,
Speaker B: that's what.
Speaker A: That's what I liked about this frequency. As I was looking around in the morning, these guys could joke around with each other and have a lot of fun with. It. Wasn't a big deal. And the political. When they get on a political
Speaker B: ramp, it's great.
Speaker C: Did you watch the State of the Union? Oh, man,
Speaker A: that's classic. I've seen so many things about it. I. I didn't watch it from the beginning to the end by just seeing a whole bunch of clips of it, probably half an hour's worth. And people were saying, the best address ever. All through. All through time. Nobody's ever done a better job. And what he. What he did to the Democrats. Oh, man, you just gotta. You just gotta watch that if you ever get
Speaker B: some time there. He had
Speaker A: olc Teared up. Just, Just. Just wet eyes. She was wiping her eyes. I didn't see no tears. But he was
Speaker C: working them. They
Speaker A: had me standing up in the front room and clapping with the rest of the crowd. And all the Democrats stayed seated.
Speaker C: Oh, he bent
Speaker A: them over in front of the whole. The whole theater. Oh, man, it was crazy. You just have to watch it. I can't. I couldn't emphasize it enough that you'll get the impact off. It is. It was unbelievable. And then he had the hockey team that won gold parade down in there. That was a standing ovation. And the Democrats didn't stand up for that either. The whole rest of the place, upper tier,
Speaker B: the whole lower tier behind the president, everything,
Speaker A: standing ovation for the gold hockey team. And the Democrats just stayed seated.
Speaker A: Seen a guy on Devora yesterday, a girl, she quit the FBI because of what they were doing during the Biden
Speaker B: was pretty heavy. I can't remember her
Speaker A: name right now, but that was a good one. Pretty smoking. What made her quit was that they didn't do anything to Hillary and they were, you know, through the weaponizing and that, no, no accountability, none of that stuff. Didn't even charge her. In fact, Comey said, you, you never charge a president. So I wouldn't even, I wouldn't even bring a case. And, and yet they did all that to Trump. That was her, the, her last straw. She said, I, I can't be a part of this weaponizing thing. But they, what they do to one side, not to the other. She just could, couldn't deal with it. So. Really smart, good looking chick,
Speaker B: too.
It, Sa. Sam.
Speaker A: Well, I might be able to get in a half an hour's worth of news before I take off.
Speaker B: Yeah, He
Speaker A: just missed one week. I'm probably gonna go over to John's. I'm. I'm inviting him, too. In fact, that good reminder there. I'll tell him what time to show up. I don't know if you ever met John.
Speaker B: Yeah, he don't have any choice.
Speaker A: Let me see. Raised rams. J. Lori. There it is. All right, I'll be right back. Actually, I won't. I'm gonna go turn the TV on. I'll check in with you about quarter to eight. That's probably when I always.
D.
Speaker A: Node 51018 connected to node 405480.
Speaker B: Yes. I'm looking at the log here and I see two times when the master timing was lost. One was this morning when you reset it reset the RTCM. The other one was last night at 19:46 which would be at 7:46pm Was there any reset back then?
Speaker C: Give me one minute, I'll be back.
Speaker B: Yeah because in the past that would been when we would have lost the system on the, the motor system.
Speaker C: So for Mountain top the only thing that I have in the ping log just to go through these is at 10:12 yesterday and that would have been in the morning. So there's nothing in the ping log.
Speaker A: Look at.
Speaker D: Can we go ahead and have our net this morning?
Speaker B: WA60 inquires.
Speaker E: Yeah absolutely. The system is up and running. We were just working on it this morning but yes, yeah no problems.
Speaker A: Okie dokie.
Speaker E: Yeah, sorry Jerry, I just dropped down and swung a mic in front of my face. I had it set up for HS so sorry about that.
Speaker D: Oh yeah, because it was, it was plenty hot.
Speaker A: All right.
Speaker B: AW60.
Speaker C: Okay Tom, well let's see. 226 today at 1:51 and 2028 seconds I had a post connection loss.
Speaker B: 151. Would that be ug utc utc time? That would be utc. Okay so I'm showing 7:46 so not
Speaker A: sure
Speaker B: it may, may work out but Yeah I have 7, 7:46 and 40 seconds is when it had a loss. But Brian you said everything was working fine last night and there was no resale on the master resent semester rtcm.
Speaker E: Yeah, just an observation that loss of host probably was very similar to the time that the GPS swap out was occurring by Doug. But yes, last evening there were several conversations on the, on the repeater and the last time I had any conversation or heard any conversations about 9pm.
Speaker B: Okay, the, the loss of the repeater.
Speaker C: Let's see here.
Speaker B: It was at 306. No, no 3. Yeah I'm looking at when, trying to figure out when the, the time was that the I think it was 3:06 when he found when he swapped out the thing.
Speaker E: That would have been quite late. I'm, I was just looking. It was right around 6pm According to my texting last evening and that would have made it that two hour, you know just shy of you know one one one hour plus to two hour plus utc.
Speaker B: Yeah so it looks like, I mean if I was to look at this log I would say at 7:46 last night we have we lost the master system and we probably had a problem until tomorrow this morning until Doug restarted things. But it sound like you were seeing everything okay except for rtcm so that wouldn't have been the case change.
Speaker E: Yeah, maybe somebody else is monitoring right now that maybe used the repeater after 7:45 last evening. But I believe that even I was using the repeater after that time last evening.
Speaker F: Yeah I wasn't around but I thinking about it. 0400 is 8pm our time so 0400 Zulu is 8pm our time and that seems like the mass is not quite lining up there. It was 19 something in our time.
Speaker E: Yeah, thanks Frank. No it you wouldn't have detected it on your side but yeah 2 UTC was approximately 1 you know 145 to 2 UTC was the time that that Doug was swapping out the gps. Well we better get ready to clear here. Looks like we're coming up on about four minutes away. So any final comments before we take it off the line?
Speaker B: Guys, I got one.
Speaker C: Later in the morning I'm going to
Speaker B: go make coffee so I can listen to the coffee make Brett.
Speaker E: And I also am going to go get some coffee first coffee of the morning so I can start processing more clearly. Catch you guys later. And yeah Jerry, everything's good to go for the coffee break net and you have a great net AI6us and company Claire.
Speaker A: Okay, thank you.
Speaker B: I'm already halfway through my first cup of coffee. Turns on morning nn6h.
Speaker D: Kd6 cdq testing.
Speaker E: Oh my gosh. Dave, do a victory dance. Your radio is working.
Speaker D: I don't know if you're talking to me because if you are it's rick, not Dave. KD6CDQ
Speaker E: See, this is what happens when I haven't had coffee. Coffee. Can't even say that this morning Rick. Good morning Rick. Your radio is working astoundingly well.
Speaker D: Thank you Brian. I'm glad to hear that because earlier this morning I tried to hit the repeater and it didn't seem like anything was working. So I said oh boy, keep your eye on it. Well, I'm going to clear for the coffee break KD6CDQ
Speaker E: and for my reference I'd appreciate it. What time was that Rick?
Speaker D: I was someplace around 5 o' clock in the morning. I turned on my radio, hit the PTT and nothing came back and I said ooh, what's going on?
Speaker E: Okay, thanks. Now we are just trying to get a time frame of when we when mountaintop went wind Death. So thank you and you have a Wonderful day there.
Speaker D: Rick.
Speaker E: Katie6 CDQ AI6US I need coffee. 73.
Speaker D: Ditto. Me too. 73. Brian, I just sent you a text about last night. AI6 or KI6LOP.
Speaker E: Okay. And if you're monitoring or Doug, Russ reports that at 7:38 last evening he wasn't able to bring up the Repeater. So thanks Russ. Ai6us. We'll be clear waiting for the coffee break now.
Speaker B: Yeah, thanks Russ. And thanks Rick. Yeah, so Rick is coming through on RTCM 1 and 2. So if he couldn't hit the repeater this morning or didn't get any response. System is also down. So that confirms that we. We did have a timeout last night at 7:36. Thanks all. And N6HQ is clear. Tom, just as a heads up this
Speaker F: morning, repeater phone's not letting me into the system. So I don't know, maybe there needs
Speaker E: to be a kick on the backside
Speaker F: or something based on what I'm hearing this morning. KG6 Good morning.
Speaker A: Okay, let's see. Do we have it? All is quiet on the western front. This is the Coffee Break Net. It's time now. Yes, the Coffee breaknet is sponsored by the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio club on the WA6EK repeater which is located in Auburn, California. I'm Zeta WA6EWF. I've had at least two swallows of my coffee. So along with Jerry, WA6E, we're going to be your net control hosts and conversation facilitators for this lovely morning. Who is out there who wants to do a quick in and out to get your day started and let us know you heard that you're there. And 60 KV.
Speaker D: KK5 Golf, whiskey, November,
Speaker A: whiskey, K C, H, Fox, Queen, Mark, Ko 68. Good morning.
Speaker D: We're back. Rick in North Highlands.
Speaker E: N2dyi.
Speaker A: Okay, Okay. Let's see who we got patrick into. Dyi and let's see. Question, question mark, question mark. Km6cdq. Is that correct? Rick,
Speaker D: kilo, delta 6 charlie, delta quebec. Rick in north highlands.
Speaker A: The delta, the first delta. We were missing that ko6th got you greg. Kc8sqv, kj5gwn and starting with carl. N6ckb. Good morning carl. How is your day going?
Speaker A: Looks like they've rebooted the system here. Gwn. Good morning, Will.
Speaker B: Yeah, Beta, you might try going back to Carl again. Looks like the system just did a reboot.
Speaker A: Thank you.
Speaker B: Yeah, I was just wondering about that.
Speaker A: Carl in 60kV. I'll try you again. Okay.
Speaker B: Good morning Theta.
Speaker C: Jerry and Rocky. Not much going on today.
Speaker B: Quiet day. Good luck with the repeater. The M6NA repeater is having problems too. So two repeaters I use are just kerfuffled today. Back to you, Theta. Thanks for running the net. M60KV.
Speaker A: Well say good morning to Ruth Forest. You have a good day too. This is WCWF, KJ5GWN. Will. Good morning. Kj5gwn.
Speaker B: Will.
Speaker A: Oh, we're having fun this morning. I'll circle back around to him. KC8FQV. Mark. Good morning. Are you with us? Okay, I will jump to Greg Ko6th. You're coming in through RF. If nothing else, we can hear you on the reverse. Hey beta, it's Greg Ko60h over on to Echo Link. Getting ready to head out. Today is a boat day so we're going to be swabbing the deck. This is a cleaning day and a couple projects but so I'm getting ready for that and hope you guys have a good day. I'm listening. On my trip down to the Bay Area just to the end of the night as I Drive. Good company on the way down there. KL60TH. Well, I certainly hope so. I carefully watch out for the crazy people out there and have fun swabbing the decks of ashy hardies. Talk like a pirate. Have a fun day. This is wa6ewf for the coffee breaknet. Kd6cdq. Rick, good morning. Are you with me?
Speaker B: Good morning, phaedra.
Speaker C: Internet.
Speaker B: This is kilo delta 6 charlie delta quebec. Or better known as kd6cdq and yo ho ho and a bottle of r.
Speaker A: A little early in the morning for the rum, but I guess that depends on where you are.
Speaker B: Never drink before five and you know it's five o' clock somewhere in this darn world. Matter of fact, it's twice a day. It's five o'.
Speaker A: Clock.
Speaker B: Anyways, I just wanted to check in since I was still up. So everybody have a great day. This is KD6CDQ. Rick and North Highlands and 73.
Speaker A: How you have a great day? Rick? This is wa6ewf kj5gwn. Will, are you back with us?
Speaker C: I am. I had to switch over to echoing because repeater fund kicked me Out. I guess I had to do a reboot of the All Star set. What we're hearing echo link now. So, anyway, getting ready to go this evening. I'm meeting a high school friend of mine that I went to school with and we are going to have dinner together with some other people, some other friends that she knows and and I are getting together. There's going to be 11 in the group and just got to get some loose ends tied up and make sure we're all going to stay to the same place. And so anyway, gotta make sure everything's tied up before I leave here at six o' clock local. So anyway, not doing too much else other than just trying to see what else is going on. This is KK5 Golf Whiskey and Limb. Back to you, Beta.
Speaker A: Well, when you have a whole group of friends going to dinner, it's always a good idea to make sure they're all going to the same place that Bunny. Nobody gets the. Their feelings hurt wondering why nobody showed up for the dinner and realized that they were in a different location. So I want to know, is this old high school friend a boy or a girl?
Speaker C: It's a guy. And he and I graduated the same year, which was 1992, and he started in 1979. He came over from England. His parents are from India. And so we've been friends ever since high school.
Speaker A: Did I hear you say 1992?
Speaker C: Yep. That's the year he and I graduated. He started in 79, I started in 75.
Speaker A: Well, you child. Well, the reason I asked about boy or girl, was maybe we were going to have a romance. I guess you could still have a romance. Hooking up with your old high school sweetheart. And all of a sudden, there you go. Well, have a lovely dinner and hope everybody gets to the same place.
Speaker C: Okay, Fayette? Yeah, I just gotta tie up some loose ends, make sure we're all on the same page and before I call and give them a final head count of who all's gonna be, how many is gonna be there, and we're all going. That's true. Everybody's paying for their own dinner. So anyway, that's the story there. This is KJ5 Golf Fisk in November. Back to you, Fader. 73.
Speaker A: Well, I hope you have a lovely dinner. You will. You'll have a great time. You'll shut the restaurant down and. And everybody will have a great time catching up. You enjoy, and we'll be listening for a report tomorrow. This is WA60WF for the coffee Breaknet KC8FQV. Mark, good morning. Still not back with us. Okay, Patrick, into dyi. Good morning. You are still. Morning there.
Speaker B: Sorry, Theta. Were you calling me? I got distracted.
Speaker A: I was calling you into dyi. How are you this morning, Patrick? Happy Thursday.
Speaker B: Yeah, happy Thursday. It's definitely. It's definitely doing Thursday things. Yeah, I've just been kind of in the background working on the. The node part of it that seems to be working now, so hopefully things won't break. Yeah, these. These last couple of days have been full of technology breaking. Yesterday, the fine, wonderful folks at Verizon came to my house. Not here, back home, and basically destroyed my entire network infrastructure. And I've lost access to everything. And because of how they did it, there is no way I can get anyone to fix it over there. So I think I'm just kind of out of luck until I get back home. And then they. One of them sent me a text this morning wondering why the network ad blocker I had installed doesn't work anymore. And I'm like, well, gee, I sure wish I could fix that, but you kind of let them destroy my infrastructure, so can't help you there.
Speaker A: Sorry. You know, that's what happens when you let the guy come in who he knows how to do one thing, and if your system isn't set up for that one thing, you're just doomed. Unless you're there. Just tell him, stop, stop, stop.
Speaker B: Yes, indeed. This was there. There's really no place here for guy versus girl. But this was a girl who came in yesterday, they called me, asked me a couple of questions, and then completely discarded everything I told them. So, yeah, fun.
Speaker A: Well, that kind of idiocy is not necessarily restricted to one sex. So, yeah, no Monopoly. I'm very sorry that I expect better of a girl.
Speaker B: Yes, Yes, I would as well. Anyway, I am still raging about that, and there's really nothing I can do about it until I get back home. So.
Speaker C: People suck.
Speaker B: I guess that's all I have right there is people suck.
Speaker A: Put a modifier in there. Come on. Some people suck. Maybe most people. No, some people suck.
Speaker B: I wonder about that. Maybe it's a majority and some people don't. Anyway, you are certainly not one of them. So, yeah, you've got that going for you. Anyway, we were going to go out today, but it turns out it is raining ridiculously hard, harder than we thought it would. And what we were going to do is not going to be happening today, so maybe tomorrow. Other than that. Just kind of trying to. Trying to keep myself from Doing things that I will regret. That's always a dangerous proposition.
Speaker A: And it is indeed Thursday. So it's Thursday and it's pouring down rain. It sounds to me like it's time to curl up with a good book.
Speaker B: You know, the problem with that is that a lot of my good books are on my mass back home, which I can't access anymore. So I have to go and find an alternate source of good books.
Speaker A: Have you tried the Library Libre system?
Speaker B: Yeah, I've used it. I've got a few sources from that, but depending on which library, there's the overdrive thing and then there's. Yeah, there's a couple of ways to do it. So it's not that I'm out of options, it's just that my normal method is currently unavailable and that's kind of thrown my entire system off. And now I have to go and do other stuff. I mean, I'll be fine. It's fine.
Speaker C: It's just
Speaker B: temporary annoyance more than anything.
Speaker A: Well, I am so sorry. And it has to be terribly frustrating for them to have done something so, so egregious that you can't fix it remotely. Considering the magic that you work remotely, that has to be the worst.
Speaker B: Yeah, every single fail safe that I put in place has been pretty much. So. I tried to do some stuff last night, ran into some new unexpected issues and ended up breaking things even more. So, yeah, can't do anything. Can't do it. Can't be done.
Speaker C: Oh, well,
Speaker B: that's all there is for that. I hope you guys are having a better day week than I have. And the weather here, other than the rain, it's been relatively warm. We were up in the 50s yesterday. Upper 50s. Looks like we're going to get back up to around 70 by the end of next week or the middle of next week. And it's kind of trying to pretend not to be winter occasionally. So spring is coming somewhere. Maybe here. Anyway, Theta. This was a very long, quick in and out. I apologize. I'll let you get on to the
Speaker A: rest of the net.
Speaker B: Everyone have a great week, great day, and try not to. Too many things. WACWF. N2DYI.
Speaker A: Well, have a better day, Patrick. N2DYI. This is WA6EWF. This is the Coffee Breaknet. Let's see. KC8FQV. Are you back with us? Nothing heard, so I'll put him down as an in and out. Abducted by aliens. Okay, let's see. Just for everybody's curiosity, the National Day is today. It is Carpe diem day. There are some of us who are having a harder time dealing with that than others, but carpe diem, it's digital learning day, for Pete's sake. Yes. Is anybody that. I actually. I think my mother would say that. I can't recall me saying that. I'm usually more obscene than that. Introducing girls to engineering. We introduced our granddaughter to engineering. She thought she liked it and decided that she was just going straight for the math. And she figured out what to do with the math later. So that's what she's doing. Letter to an elder. Yeah. If you know somebody who's an elder, that's obviously somebody older than you, whatever age you are, write a letter to them. That's being a lost art, isn't it? It's Levi Strauss day. It's the invention of Levi Strauss jeans. It's toast day and pistachio day. Fairy tale and thermos bottle day. Thermos bottles even have a little song, but I'm not going to sing it. So those are the national days. Today. Let's do another round of, of quick in and outs and then we'll move on. Who's out there? Who wants to check in this morning?
Speaker B: Let's see if I make it this time.
Speaker C: Kilo Golf 6, November, Lima, whiskey.
Speaker A: Well, kcf qb. We'll see. What happened? I don't know. Kcf qb,
Speaker B: kilo charlie, Kilo november, 6, whiskey, quebec uniform, kn6, wq.
Speaker A: We're coming out. Warnings and injury.
Speaker C: K purdy, clicking it out, please.
Speaker B: Kilo oscar 6, kilo bravo, sierra, ko6,
Speaker A: kbs, joel for a quick in and out. All right, let's see. We had some, some doubles and triples in there, but what we heard was kj5hht. We got you. Ko6, kbs, joel, k3gcm, we think. Is that correct?
Speaker C: Okay, per vpm. That was.
Speaker A: Okay, well, we'll, we'll try and clear that up later. Kn6, wq. Got you as an in. And. Well, we're all in and out. Kc6sle and kc8sqv, come back around to you. Kg6nlw. So who. Let's see. Who do we miss in there?
Speaker B: Kilo bravo, 6, lima, uniform victor. Good morning,
Speaker A: Kw6u. Good morning. In and out.
Speaker A: Jk6 of ezd mobile.
Speaker B: We6a x n receiver. Good morning. Good morning. How you doing? Sounds like. Sounds like the static is back. And according to Dave, that's from the repeater power lines up there on the hill.
Speaker A: Well, you sound really great. I don't hear any bacon frying or popcorn popping. Hey, party.
Speaker B: Okay, well, who knows why? Maybe because I'm closer and I'm using a mobile rig. I don't know.
Speaker A: Maybe it's because of your diet. Your body is actually grounding your signal. It's your brain that's actually radiating.
Speaker B: That'd be interesting. Yeah. Who does?
Speaker A: Well, you're asking. Hey, what's good, Pete?
Speaker B: I don't know.
Speaker A: Nothing. Working on the guitars here. I paint. So therefore I play guitar and I paint the guitar body skull, you know, and hey, I'm happy sitting here drawing gold and blues. Hey, baby. Oh, oh, okay.
Speaker B: All right. I'm sitting here thinking, let me see, let me see. Teeth from the era of hippies.
Speaker A: I can just imagine what those guitars look like. You know, I tried to grow my hair long back in those days, but kind of Angela Davis. And those are really inconvenient kind of live. Walk, go out on the trees around, drink water out of a fountain.
Speaker B: Angela Davis. That's a name I haven't heard in a very long time.
Speaker A: Still kicking it. She was a professor at SF Stage State or something. And yeah, a lot of people are still hanging in there. I talked to a young woman who she is and what she represents.
Speaker B: Yeah, okay. I thought Angela Davis was from Berkeley. I don't know.
Speaker A: Yeah, probably close to some kind of truth. I wanted to sla. And the Patty Hurt thing. Oh, that was a big deal.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, I remember that. Yeah. You mentioned that to anybody? Oh, I'm not sure. Yeah, not too many people. A younger age would. Would have it. Clue as to what that was about.
Speaker A: Yeah. SYMBIO N Liberation Army. What are you talking about? A country called Simba.
Speaker B: Yeah, you know, I was thinking that myself. What in the world is symbionese? What in the world does that mean?
Speaker A: It rhymes with fleas. You could write a song.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, that was a. That was quite a while back, I guess, you know, it was interesting. Time to live through. Glad that it, you know, kind of passed away.
Speaker A: We were all splitting the draft. Yeah, People are freaking out, running to Canada, and then we're all complaining because anybody rich, they get out of it.
Speaker B: You weren't one of those, were you?
Speaker A: No, but I was in school. And by the time they had Some kind of slaughtery system drawing numbers. By the time they got around to me, the war was winding down, you know, luckily, because I was thinking about, oh, Vietnam, here I come.
Speaker B: Yeah, I know, I know. I'm just a little bit younger. So, you know, by the time I got of age, we had pretty much pulled out. It wasn't quite fully over yet, but there was nobody else being. Sent overseas anymore. And I remember thinking about, please let the war be over before I get to be draft age. And it just about was. But, you know, I actually, before I turned 18, I went and. Well, no, I don't think that's true. It must have been right after I turned 18. I went and signed up. Delayed enlistment for the Air Force. So, you know, they got me. Anyway,
Speaker A: Tell you what's funny. Not ha ha, but I feel kind of guilty about not going with a lot of, you know, buddies in high school, that age group. You didn't come back, you know, And I'm thinking, well, I don't know, why didn't they take me?
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, I kind of get it. Yeah. You know, I spent 24 years in the Air Force, and there wasn't much going on that entire 24 years that I was in. But there was a, you know, there was a few things right at the very end there. You know, we went over to Iraq and the Middle east over there, and I was not one of the ones that was sent. And I had.
Speaker A: I have a kind of.
Speaker B: A bit of a hard time when people, you know, come Memorial Day or you're in gatherings and people ask the veterans to stand up and be recognized. I almost feel guilty about standing up because I never was exposed to combat.
Speaker A: Have you heard of stolen valor? These guys who dress up in uniforms, claim they were, you know, Navy seals and stuff like that. They never served the day.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, I've heard that. And not exactly sure I had acquaint them with the. The name Slime, but, you know, that's. Yeah, to take away the recognition from the guys that actually did serve and put themselves in harm's way. That's pretty low.
Speaker C: Quick comment.
Speaker A: Go ahead.
Speaker C: This is N60NY. I just want to say, Chris, from one veteran to you sometimes doesn't feel like you did enough to be recognized
Speaker B: for you did your full.
Speaker C: Your full step, man. When they ask for veterans to stand up, be proud of the service that you did serve, you know, you don't have to see combat. Count your blessings that you did them.
Speaker B: So my eyes, as a Marine, you're
Speaker C: Still a veteran to me, bro. N60NY
Speaker B: thank you, thank you. I've gotten that from many, many, many other people and I guess I'm dealing with a little better than I did. But still, you know, I got to recognize that there is a difference between, you know, somebody that served their country and then somebody that was shot at. There is a difference. And you know, for the guys that did, man, my respect and my admiration goes out to. Hey, you know, I was thinking about it the other day. By the time that I got in the service, basically we were out of Vietnam. But technically I'm still a Vietnam era veteran. So Neil, what are you doing? Where are you out and about today?
Speaker C: I'm currently on
Speaker B: Highway 20 headed towards.
Speaker C: Where am I headed towards? Towards Penn Valley.
Speaker B: Sorry I didn't catch the last.
Speaker C: Currently Highway 24th Inglebright. So I've been on the road since 8 o' clock last night and I'm still going.
Speaker B: Oh man. How did the stay in the Bay Area go?
Speaker C: It was actually nice. Put me in a somewhat decent hotel and you know, staying out there in Walnut Creek, I actually enjoy it quite a bit.
Speaker B: Yeah, when I was kind of between full time jobs and I had a part time and had to go to San Francisco, they put us up in San Francisco while we were there during the week they put lined me up in the this little hotel, I think it might have had, oh, I don't know, a dozen rooms in it maybe. And it was right across the street from the entrance to Chinatown. Oh, good deal. We got to have some good food
Speaker C: and some pretty good entertainment out there.
Speaker B: Yeah, I was working, I was working like 5 till whenever and for you it was in like the business district where we were. So you know, we'd go in and we'd start to work and we'd hit 10 o' clock or something like that and want to go eat somewhere and you know, there was absolutely nothing open anywhere around us because it's the business district and all the businesses were closed.
Speaker C: Yes sir. Yes sir.
Speaker A: Alrighty.
Speaker C: Well, I'm going to start picking fencing here in a second. I could already hear it coming across the radio with you talking. It's just starting to get a little choppy so I want to hand it back over to YouTube. You guys have a good one at 7:3. Hopefully I'll be able to see my bed sometime before 9 o'clock tonight.
Speaker B: So I'll talk to you guys later.
Speaker C: Stay safe out there. And 69.
Speaker B: All right, have a great day. So Pete, going back to those days. Yeah, I don't think about it too much, but it was interesting to think back. Those were some really interesting times.
Speaker A: I suppose they are really. I mean, politically and all like that, blah, blah, blah. But what I got out is this Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, transcendental meditation. Don't worry, be happy. Hey, look at how happy I am.
Speaker B: Well, good for you. Glad you got something out of it.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: A while back, actually, a very long time ago, cbs, Charles Kuralt, they got Charles Kuralt to narrate. There was a record that CBS put out about all the events from the year 1968, everything that happened in 1968. And Charles Carleton narrated it. And that was something my brother bought. And I always thought that was very interesting. And then I went back and found a book, probably about 10 years ago, that was written about somebody by somebody about the year 1968 and how that one year basically changed the world. And I read it, and there was so many things that happened. So many things that happened that year that said. Yeah, it was like a. It's like a page turn between what was and what is now.
Speaker A: Yeah, I remember 69. End of the hippie generation, the Altamont Pass. So I guess that was the end of the love with.
Speaker B: Yeah, I remember. Well, like, different. Different times, you know, when your news came across, CBS or ABC or NBC and, you know, that was. That was your only source of news. And I remember watching the news and the reporting of the fires in Watts and the riots in Detroit and Chicago and such.
Speaker A: You know, a lot of that stuff is still available on YouTube. Go in there and they zoom right in on the guy getting beaten up.
Speaker B: Yeah, and. Yeah, just everything. Bobby Kennedy being killed, Martin Luther King being killed, and, Oh, I can't even remember all the other things that happened, but, man, what a year.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, life in the fast lane.
Speaker B: I wonder about
Speaker A: really, quite frankly, our future. You know, I'm sitting here, I'm retired. I'm kind of thinking, well, you know, majority of my manhood struggle is over, but what about the kids? You know, the grandkids, mom and dad and all like that? So it might be kind of tough. Tough times. You ever heard of that?
Speaker B: Yeah, I get to thinking about that now and again. And quite a while back, I kind of figured it came to me that, you know, I've had my experiences in life and dealt with the life that was dealt me, and so much has changed that. That is hard to deal with. I think there's a reason that our life is finite, because I don't think that I could deal with all the changes that are coming up.
Speaker A: Well, you know, I was trained in art, and one of the themes of my paintings is existential agony. Ha ha ha. Well, existence is pain, torture. Sometimes, you know, and sometimes you feel like it's meaning to go. Let me out of here.
Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. You know, I look at how people live nowadays and the attitude and the thinking, and it's just really foreign to me and, you know, wonder how in the world people can think the way they do nowadays.
Warming it up. N6 ntm.
Km7dpxu mobile traveling from St. George Newton. Km7cvx is mobile monitoring and traveling from. Santa Rosa, California. System 26 link up. Hey, thanks for the response. I'm over on the Lodi accident, Highway 5. I appreciate it. You have a great day.
Speaker A: Let's see, was that a kc6u or a kw8u? No, kw6u.
Speaker B: That's right.
Speaker A: Kw6u and there was one other.
Speaker C: Who else?
Speaker D: Kilo bravo 6 lima uniform. Good morning.
Speaker A: Okay, kv6 luv. Yes, we got you. And there was one other. Kilo, ocean 6 mike, mike, india.
Speaker D: Jeff and rosa,
Speaker A: Ko6 Mike, Mike, India. We got you on the list. Okay, I'm going up to KC8sqv. Mark, we had put you down as abducted by aliens. So are you back with us? Yep.
Speaker C: Hey, I don't know what happened, you
Speaker A: know it just, you know, you were
Speaker C: getting check ins and now you're going through the roster of people and you know something happened somewhere has decided. The aliens decided to take me away. But we're back. Yeah, I took a walk down to the mailbox. Yeah, there's some ice out there still. It started out 24 this morning. We're up to 31 now. Yeah, there was some ice out there still in places but I hope by the end of the day that will be gone. Although the cars handle it. Well you know this ice, you know, so other than that, you know we'll I guess stop by throughout the day and I'm going to do some tax getting tax paperwork put together. So we'll put it back to net control case C8FQV.
Speaker A: Very good. Well yeah, stay, walk carefully on that ice. Use your grippy shoes and I don't know a walker, a cane or something like sprinkle some salt in front of you yourself to make sure you don't slip on the ice but stay warm.
Speaker C: Yeah, I'll just stay off and wait till it.
Speaker A: All right. All together gone.
Speaker C: Yeah, I just do it once a day.
Speaker E: Oh yeah.
Speaker A: Good morning.
Speaker C: So we'll Send back the net K17 by that good exercise, just sliding and falling down. Tasty of QB.
Speaker A: Okay. Good morning Mark Frank K KG6NLW. Good morning.
Speaker F: Good morning Data, Jerry, Rocky and the coffee Break net. No one's gonna hear this if they're not reconnected. But yeah, there was another reset of the system there and that's what Mark myself and a few others there about 20 minutes or so ago now. But yeah, if you're not paying attention on the IAX clients like a lot of us are coming in through, you won't realize it until you look at your phone or device or whatever and go oh, no wonder why it's been so quiet. With that being said, good morning everybody. On my way back home for my 48 hours off and it's a little chill. Bakersfield this morning
Speaker A: tonight 8:00pm Pacific Time.
Speaker F: That's 0400 UTC. For those of us that use UTC clock as your everyday thing. NorCal Swap, there's a big announcement. So I. I know W6UK has a very busy club meeting around that time,
Speaker A: but if you get a chance to
Speaker F: listen in, please do listen in. The announcement will be at the beginning of the net tonight. With that not much else going on. Coffee Breaknet is live every morning on my YouTube channel. And it's been doing relatively well, all things considered with that Theta Jerry. You guys have a great morning and I will be listening. Mobile voice repeater phone. She's Now I've gotten WA6EWF. There we go. I had to think about it.
Speaker A: Beta kg6.
Speaker F: Good morning.
Speaker A: Well, good morning, Frank. And thanks for the information. We will. We may be able to listen in. Not tonight, but we will try and listen in. You have a great day, Frank. This is WA6EWF for the Coffee Breaknet. KN6WQ. Dan. No, I'm. I'm sorry. Stop, stop, stop. KC6SLE. I'm getting scrambled in Graydon.
Speaker G: Good morning, Peter. Good morning, Jerry. Good morning to everyone on the net. Just a quick reminder that we do have two things coming up. This Saturday we have the club breakfast in the early morning at Mel's Diner in auburn. And at 9 o' clock in the parking lot, we'll have the pre meeting for the Fox Hunt. I'm gonna have a Fox Hunt this Saturday. The weather's gonna be great. So just a couple reminders on those. Hope to see a lot of people turn out for the fox hunt. KC6SLE.
Speaker H: Morning, Grady. We got all those information. Important things are coming right up.
Speaker D: A question.
Speaker H: Are you on? I know you're all star. Are you coming in through Starlink or through something else?
Speaker G: I am 100% converted to Starlink. So I cut. I cut the surface out of Chico that comes off of Wolf Mountain via microwave. I have not terminated that service yet. I'm still gathering confidence on the Starlink system, but no, I am coming to you via satellite.
Speaker H: You sound good. It's an amazing system. I'm still kind of blown away by it. Enjoy. I'll go back to Satan. These are supposed to be in and outs. Otherwise you and I would talk for half an hour. WA60,
Speaker G: good to hear from you. KC6SLA.
Speaker A: Okay, Z6SLA. This is WA6DWF. So you have a great day, Graydon, and say hi to Lisa for us. See you tonight maybe. Anyway, I'll get to that a little bit later. KN6WQ. Good morning, Dan.
Speaker I: Good morning.
Speaker J: Dinner.
Speaker I: Jerry, make sure I'm getting through okay.
Speaker A: All right.
Speaker I: I shut that off. Okay.
Speaker J: Yeah.
Speaker D: I just looked down, I seen the inverter was on.
Speaker I: Usually I turned it off and I guess I left it running last night. Oh, well, anyway, good morning Everybody. This is K at 6wpu. Well, we got the AC guy over last night and there was actually somebody in the club that's helping me, which is really nice. And then we have. I think we have some ideas of what's going on. I guess I'm not sure. I have been exposed to my class around 7:30 so I didn't really get a chance to hear anything. So. But it's been running all night long, so I don't know what they did. I think they let some Freon out, so there's that. So let's see if that helps. Anyway, hopefully we can move forward and we can have heat from here on forward. It's going to be another beautiful day here in North Highlands. Definitely peeking out. I'm going to be taking off my hoodie soon which is a beautiful day for me to stay in 6WQ.
Speaker A: Oh, definitely a sign of spring when Dan takes off his hoodie. Well, you have a great day today and don't work too hard. Thanks.
Speaker I: Y' all have a good day. And everybody also have a good day. This is G,
Speaker A: This is wa60wf. Ka3 victor golf mike. Jimmy, good morning. Broadcasting live from Red Mountain at an elevation.
Speaker K: Good morning, Rocky. Good morning, Jerry. A relatively warm day back here in Pennsylvania. It's approximately 35 degrees which is good. Bit warmer than it had been. It's supposed to go all the way up to 45 today, so I hope it does. Although it looks cloudy today, so I don't think we'll have any. I don't think we'll have any sunshine to look at. Thank you, Santa K for bgm.
Speaker A: Well, A sounds like you're climbing out of winter and that that's a good thing. You have a great day, Jimmy, and thanks for checking in. This is WA60WFKO6KBS. Joel, good morning.
Speaker E: Good morning to you too. Just a quick check in, waiting for the Amazon driver to arrive with my brand new drone I bought last night while I was binge shopping in my sleep. Hope the weather holds so I can fly it today.
Speaker A: All your neighbors are gonna love you.
Speaker E: Actually, I live in a mobile home park and not only would they not Let me put up an HF antenna. They will not let me fly a drone in the park. In the park. So there you.
Speaker A: Go.
Speaker H: You got to watch where you fly those things. We were up in Yukon in the
Speaker D: middle of nowhere at this park on
Speaker H: the lake called Muncho Lake. And when I say a park, I mean it was just some flat dirt
Speaker D: that we could park a motorhome.
Speaker H: And I got out my drone that I borrowed from my son in law and started it up.
Speaker D: And from out of nowhere these people
Speaker H: came out who were the self appointed monitors.
Speaker K: You can't fly that here and whatnot.
Speaker A: So if you can't fly it in
Speaker H: the boonies, you certainly can't fly it in the city.
Speaker A: So be careful.
Speaker E: Yeah, roger that. I've run into a couple of drone nazis and even flown where I shouldn't have and been spoken to by park rangers and I've done it all.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's. It creates a challenge. Even our son in law found that even just flying the drone directly above their house, the neighbors around them would complain. You're flying a drone, you're violating our privacy. I'm not looking at you. You can't win. That's just one of those things. I understand in the Netherlands they've even trained eagles to bring those down. So yeah, watch out for the flying feathered drone. Drone police.
Speaker E: Yeah, I told one neighbor, I'm not filming you. And put your clothes back on.
Speaker A: That's bad. Shame on you.
Speaker E: Roger that. Oh well, just a quick in and out. So I'll pass it back over to you 73 to you and everyone on the net. KO6 KBS back to net control
Speaker A: 73 Joel, you have a great day. KJ5HHT Trucker Larry, good morning. Glad you checked in with us this morning.
Speaker J: Good morning everybody on the net and at control. Hope you guys are doing okay. Currently north of Orlando, Florida, it is sunshiny and 76 degrees. Don't mean to rub it in anybody's face. Sorry about that. Just real quick. I got my truck back. It's been in the shop for two weeks. Had to have six injectors replaced. It is running fine so far. I'm headed up to Jacksonville to deliver and then back down to Orlando again. That's all I've got for today. You guys have a good net back to your net control. KJ5HHT
Speaker A: well, I'm glad you're back on the road and drive carefully. Watch out for the crazy people. But for some reason, even large vehicles seem to be invisible to some People, So we do worry about you. You have a great day and thanks for checking in. I hope we keep you amused on your drive. This is WA6EWF for the coffee breaknet KB6LUV. Brett, good morning, is Bonnie.
Speaker D: Good morning, Theta Jerry, Rocky and Coffee Breaknet land. Hope everybody's doing well today on this foggy south Natomas Sacramento morning. No orange ball? Excuse me? No orange ball in the sky as of yet. But maybe it'll make an appearance later. Who knows? In the meantime, I'm sitting here with two lovely ladies. My mom, Bonnie, who's here still from Newton, Kansas. She's on her last week here. Say good morning, mom.
Speaker A: Good morning, Zada. It's nice to be here.
Speaker D: And my wife Dede, who's going to be quiet in the background. Anyway, not a whole lot going on here. Hopefully you guys are doing well today.
Speaker A: Yeah, the. The clouds are lightening up a little bit. They're. I don't see any blue, but it's looking promising. So higher. Seven. Not bad. So enjoy the warm, Bonnie, and glad that you're still visiting and hope you've been having a great time. Indeed I have. And I'm very pleased to be here. Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.
Speaker I: Yep.
Speaker D: We're going to come up to the box hunt.
Speaker A: Oh, very good. You will have fun doing that. That's a good time. Well, excellent. What do you have planned today?
Speaker D: I don't know what we are going to be doing today. Maybe some more house stuff. My mom has been just lovely human being and being a mother that she is and just bringing some order back to the house that had got unorderly over some time. So very grateful for that. Might do a little bit more of that. Other than that, just hanging out and doing family stuff. Appreciating the time while she's here.
Speaker A: Have you taken her to the railroad museum down in Old Sacred?
Speaker B: I have not.
Speaker D: But I don't know if maybe you'd heard yesterday or on previous days that we've been on. My mom actually used to live here in Sacramento, so she's very familiar with Sacramento. She doesn't have the need to go
Speaker A: do touristy things and I certainly don't have any desire to drive around. Very good. I did not realize that I missed that point. Well, okay, so just enjoy your time there. And let's see, Jerry said that Brett could take you on a ride on his red scooter, but you probably don't want to do that either. I already have.
Speaker K: It's just wonderful.
Speaker A: Oh, that's great. That's great. Well, enjoy your visit and just enjoy hanging out with all the family together there. That's wonderful.
Speaker I: Yeah, it certainly is.
Speaker D: And so, yeah, we will see you all on Saturday. We'll be looking to maybe pair up with one of more experiences, experienced folks, as this will only be my second actually, third fox. First one was mobile, second one was in the park. Still don't know what I'm doing.
Speaker J: Hi.
Speaker A: Hi. Yeah, the in the park ones are fun because there's lots of socialization going on. The other ones are fun too. But you have a great time and success in finding the fox.
Speaker D: Thank you very much, theta. Thank you, Jerry, Rocky, appreciate you all running the net today. It's always a pleasure hearing you. Everybody out there in coffee break that land, have an amazing day. Be blessed, Take care of yourselves. Take care of each other. Kev6luv be of love. 73 clear. Enlisting.
Speaker A: This is WA6EWF. KW6U. Jeff, good morning.
Speaker B: Good morning, Theta and Jerry. KW6U just dropped our grandson off.
Speaker D: He spent a couple of days with
Speaker B: us and he needed some personal time. Daddy was out of town for a few weeks and now he's back this morning. So he got the surprise to see daddy cooking breakfast.
Speaker A: Oh, how about that? Made him glad. How old is your grandson? I should know this.
Speaker B: Well, I had the five year old this time. So the last two days we've been entertaining him. Actually mostly me has been entertaining him and he's gone around and we've done our chores and he helped me work in the backyard and all kinds of stuff.
Speaker D: So he gets paid for that.
Speaker A: Ah, very good. Very good. Yeah, grandkid time is great. There's just a whole different feel about grandkids. You don't really feel like.
Speaker A: Kk6vzd. Did I lose you? Yeah, I think you did. I was talking about the homeless. I was just kind of wondering. I'm on my way to sac, and I'm getting kind of close there, so it's getting harder and harder to. To copy you. So I think I'm going to just say good morning for now and maybe I'll catch you on my trip back up. So if I don't talk to you the rest of the day, have a great day and we'll talk later. KK6VZD player.
Speaker B: WP6A. Okay, KK6VTV. I'll be listening out. KF6 CWO. That last station, you're pretty noisy into the repeater. This is why he's having a hard time hearing. This is n6iwas,
Speaker A: and thanks
Speaker B: for
Speaker A: telling me. Something's going on with my radio. Scratchy noisy, so I'm gonna have to try to check it out. Maybe rain and the coax, something like that.
Speaker B: Yeah, that last transmission, you were a little bit clearer, but there's. There's a bunch of noise in there with you. I don't know what is. Anyway, have a nice day. This is KF6EW Gary at Norville.
The gears. Monthly informal breakfast is held on the second Saturday of the month at 9am at the Farmer's Skillet, located at 690 Rio Lindo Avenue, Chico. All are welcome to attend. W6RHC repeater checked 1.
D.
W e6axm receiver.
Speaker A: It's your job to turn them into responsible, productive adults. You can just have fun with them.
Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, I agree with that. I still feel. I still feel a little responsible to be consistent with what the parents are doing and what they want us to do. So I follow their guidelines, but I can be much, much more relaxed about it. I do enjoy that. And, of course, I also enjoy dropping them back off again.
Speaker A: Yes. As a friend of ours said a grandmother, best day is when the grandkids come to visit, and the second best day is when they go home. So that's also another benefit of grandchildren. Well, very good. I'm glad you had fun. So what do you have planned for today?
Speaker B: I have a landscape architect coming over today, just in a little while here, and to go over what might. What future plans to make that to beautify the yard. The backyard's a mess. And at least do that and come up with a total plan. And so we'll go from there.
Speaker A: That's.
Speaker B: You know, this stuff isn't cheap, but it's worth it to have a plan.
Speaker A: Yeah. If you get the plan set up, then you can piecemeal it and. And have everything look relatively cohesive. So that's a good way to start.
Speaker B: That's the idea. There's just weeds everywhere, and I need new retaining walls. We took down the old retaining walls, and then I realized I don't know what I'm doing. I don't really have an end goal. I was sort of working with what I had and thinking I would just
Speaker A: keep it the same.
Speaker B: And then I thought. Or started coming up with other ideas. Well, I just need to hire somebody to give me more ideas.
Speaker A: Yes, indeed. We did that for the front yard, and it's been very nice. The backyard is kind of weeds and. Well, we have a couple of raised beds and then weeds and which we mow. And they're green, so we call them grass and our mandarin trees. So that's just kind of our backyard.
Speaker B: Well, I haven't even mowed the weeds now. It's going to take some big weed eating and lots of labor. So once I have a plan, we'll start that work. And I don't know how much I'll get done before I go off to
Speaker C: the pct, But I'm going to do
Speaker B: some training today also go for a hike and get ready for that. And I'll see what it is today. I don't even know what day it is.
Speaker A: Well, it is Thursday, so hike gently.
Speaker B: That's right, Thursday. I'll Be going over to Ray's things tonight and I'll see you all there for whoever's going. Anyway, I'm going to turn into my driveway here, so have a great morning. Thanks for running the net, doing a great job as always and I'll catch you next time. This is kw6u73.
Speaker A: And this is wa60wf. You have a great day. Jeff ko6mmi. Another jeff. Jeff 2
Speaker D: good morning beta. Good morning, gary. Good morning. Copy breaknet. I am here in east roseville testing out his new antenna. Just making sure you guys can copy me.
Speaker E: Okay.
Speaker A: Yeah, you're okay. You're a little fuzzy but we can certainly hear you.
Speaker D: Thank goodness for that. My little antenna here is making the distance. Pretty proud of that. It's pretty awesome. Well, I didn't have much for the next but I did want to say as a parent of a five year old to those grandparents out there, regardless of whatever political or familial tension or you have going on, from my perspective, I am greatly appreciative of grandparents taking over and enjoying my kiddo as much as I do most of the time. So always a pleasure to get some more personal time back.
Speaker A: Very good, very good. Yes, the five year olds are fun but very energetic and which is one one issue with the grandparents is that, you know, we love them in small doses but oh gosh, we're glad to send them home and take a nap. You have a great day and hope that you enjoy hanging out with your 5 year old.
Speaker D: Thank you for that, Dana. Thank you all. I find the trick is just involving them with anything that you're doing. The five year olds, regardless of how much energy they have, you put them to work. That's what my parents do, put her to work out in the yard, help her clean dishes. As long as you have a little bit of patience for them to do it their own way at their pace,
Speaker B: they can help you out a lot
Speaker D: and they really enjoy it. That's been my experience. But anyway, you all have a wonderful day. I think the weather's clearing up or will be clearing up towards you guys to say today.
Speaker A: It's nice.
Speaker D: And the clouds are burning up though down here in Roseville, so I'm expecting that you guys are getting sun. Everyone out there, coffee breaknet Ada, Jerry, thank you again. This is K06MMI Clear with me at 73.
Speaker A: Well, you have a great day too, Jeff. This is WA60 wall and this is the coffee break knit. We have an important announcement for tonight. We are going to Have a celebration of life for Ray at Brewster's Burgers tonight. And I think it starts at 5. I'm not seeing Brian. Maybe you can make a little note for me here. Tell me what time is starting. But yes, we're all, yes, five o', clock, Brewster's Burgers up in Auburn. And we're just going to kind of take over the place, get together and tell Ray stories. And there will be, I'm sure, lots of interruptions with comment. So Christina does the best Ray interpretation imitation. So we look forward to seeing you there. Christina and Thomas will be there and Steve will be there, his son. And we're really looking forward to this. You know, we miss Ray, we're going to miss Ray.
Speaker E: But
Speaker A: we'll all get together and laugh and cry together. And that's what community does. So that's coming up for us. Let's see what else is going on. Yeah. This Saturday is breakfast at mel's Diner at 7:30 up in Auburn and followed by the Foxhots which will leave from the Mel's parking lot at 9 and KO6GXX. Marty is the Foxhot tender. On Monday, March 2nd. Man, those days are going by fast. We're having the VE testing at 7pm at the Confluence Church. If you're interested in being an Elmer or even if you're interested in just showing up and seeing what goes on, come join us. Usually we have dinner together beforehand and I think this time it's going to be at the Old Town pizza place about 5 o' clock and we'll meet there and have pizza and then go test and add more hams or upgrade hams to our hobby. Otherwise There will be VE testing on March 14th by the Granite Bay VE group at the Raley's Event center in Douglas at Folsom Boulevard. And the Folsom VE team is Thursday, March 16th in Folsom. You can find out all the details and sign up on HempSteady.org so those are two important things. And coming right up, I mean it's almost March, so coming right up,
Speaker E: we
Speaker A: have the Loomis Ham Fest, March 28th at 7am that's for if you want to come buy things. If you want to sell something, show up at 6. Club members, please sign up to be a volunteer. We've got lists on the website that can tell you where we need extra people. And you know, like I've said before, the more people who volunteer, the less you have to do. So we need people pointing out where is a park and we have People need people to do elk to be Elmers, which I understand is very fun. We need people to do testing. We've always had a little volunteer test stand up there where people can bring their stuff and figure out what's going on. So there are fun things. There's not just work things. But if you volunteer, you get a free donut and coffee. And I'm one of the donut dollies, so I will make sure that you get your donut. So this is some of the things going on. My husband is laughing at me. Oh, I forgot. March 13th, new location. Our monthly club meeting at the DeWitt center on the HHS Conference Center. We went there last. Last month, this month. And it is a lovely place to have a. To have a meeting. Yeah, you can hear. So like I say, those are some of the things going on. So let's, let's have some, some rag chew or some in n outs. If you need to be in and out, let me know. I'll put you in at the top of the list. This is WA6DWF for the coffee break net.
Speaker B: Good morning.
Speaker A: Theta. WB6BJN.
Speaker C: Flow in and out.
Speaker B: Kilo que Quebec 4 alpha papa delta, in and out.
Speaker E: K6dcl in and out.
Speaker A: Okay, we got K6DCL for an in and out and KQ4APD for an in and out. Ka6Uai for an in and out. WB6BJN and N9MUF. And we missed somebody. KN6MJB. Is that is that we missed? Yes, ma', am. That was me. Okay, well, now we have you on the list. Very good. So that's, that's my list. I'll go to my in and out. Okay, a 6uaI. How is your day doing?
Speaker C: Well, that's going along. I'm considering it the Aloha Friday Eve. So somebody talking about ramen. I do have to place an order at Walmart. I might consider that. But any rate, just a work day and getting a few little bits and pieces of parts and probably reorganize my two kits I have set up in bags and get all the little bits and pieces like that in some nice heavy duty baggies lost in the bottom somewhere. May even label the baggies.
Speaker A: Who knows. Well, that's a challenge to make sure you, you figure those things out.
Speaker C: Yes, that'll be much more fun than the complex case I have to work on today. So trendy. Do all this other stuff and avoid that. But we have to get to it today. I don't have enough projects to do.
Speaker A: Well, you know, that's a terrible fate to not have enough projects to do. Well, get to making your projects and bagging up all the little pieces that don't that are going to go wandering away and falling down behind the desk drawer or things like that so that you can find them again.
Speaker C: Yes, and I always have an optimistic view about complex situations and discussions and things like that that they need to help because I found that if you wait that extra day, sometimes they partially resolve themselves. Anyway, anyway, I'm going to let you get back to the net. I just wanted to check in here and I'm going to get back to seeing. I'm going to go find out what I sent to somebody because I don't think it was complete. So got to make some corrections. You never know. K6Uai, everyone have a great short rest of the week and I look forward to Aloha Friday and the weekend.
Speaker B: Good morning, Ron.
Speaker C: Before you run, your audio is way low, so I don't know if you can speak louder or put the microphone closer to your mouth. You'll need to do something. How's that? Probably a little bit of each. I'm only partially awake. I need a couple more cups of coffee here this morning to get the volume going.
Speaker B: I understand that and it was much better.
Speaker D: Thanks.
Speaker B: WA60.
Speaker A: Three. Ron, thanks for checking in. This is wa60wf, kq4apd. Good morning.
Speaker B: Good morning everybody on the coffee net. Hope everybody's having a great morning. It's currently 64 where I'm at in Birmingham, Alabama. The sky just decided to fall out with rain. So decided to come outside and just bring out the tobacco pipe and just enjoy the morning. Just have a little smoke and enjoy the weather. It's not too cold, not too hot, but that's all I really got. I hope everybody has a great rest of their day. And 73 KQ4APD.
Speaker A: Back to nap.
Speaker C: Comment?
Speaker A: Go ahead, comment.
Speaker C: I just wanted. It's kg6 and although you just wanted
Speaker A: to say good to hear you out
Speaker B: here this morning, Andrew and I know
Speaker C: Chavez checked in earlier as well. So good morning for both of you. KG6 and LW Mobile.
Speaker A: Well, very good. And thanks for coming in and telling Andrew that you're glad to hear him. This is wa60wf for the coffee breakneck. K6dcl. Good morning, dave.
Speaker E: Good morning, Theta.
Speaker A: Good morning, Jerry.
Speaker E: Nothing new on the tank front. I actually haven't talked to his mom this week. So maybe I need to give him a call before he starts up in a couple weeks. Other than that, not a lot going on here. Just still loving my year 3185R radio, VHF only. It's a powerhouse and I'm actually able to listen to you some, some of the time. Listen to the coffee Breaknet on my radio. So that's pretty good. It's got a good receive on it too. And I'm shocked because I couldn't get you guys on my 9700 so just got a good receiver. Other than that, not much else going on. I sold my Kenwood 480HX. Yes. To the post office and it's on its way back to Tennessee. Very happy about that. Now I'm going to sell my ICOM 705. Just learned that there's something with I can't boost up its power so it's, you know, it's a 10 water and around here need a little bit more power. So we're going to go up but we'll see what happens when I get it in
Speaker A: HF rig.
Speaker E: Can't wait to see what it can do. K60ZCL. Thank you very much for taking me in. Have a happy week and a happy day. K60ZCL73.
Speaker A: Have a great time.
Speaker E: Time at Ray's. There you go. I'll be with you in spirit. K6DC.
Speaker A: Well, thanks for checking in, Dave, and glad that you're recycling your radios and coming around to one that really works for you. This is WA6CWF, KN6MJB. Good morning, Thomas.
W e6a x n receiver.
Speaker A: Good morning.
Speaker B: This is can6mjb. There was somebody, I think, that was trying to break in right before I hit the button.
Speaker C: Hi.
Speaker B: What do you think?
Speaker C: Okay.
Speaker A: Whoever that was, you really aren't making it.
Speaker C: Oh, well.
Speaker A: Thomas, good morning. Good morning.
Speaker B: I hope everybody's doing well. It's a pretty nice morning, actually. At least where I currently am. Although I'm inside doing cleanup, but seems
Speaker A: like a good day. Yeah. And you're doing the manual labor, Right? That's so hard.
Speaker B: It's that royal.
Speaker A: We.
Speaker B: We will clean up the house. I didn't know that it extended to brother in laws as well. But you know what? I joke around. I volunteered for the this. It's not that bad. I enjoy doing it. I have the radio going on in the background, listening to everybody have for a couple of days, got the music playing in here. One thing Ray did have was a great system. So the tunes have been flowing. And while they're dealing with all of the paperwork stuff that I want absolutely nothing to do with, I get to do this. So some people may think I have the short end of the stick, but I enjoy it.
Speaker A: Oh, I'm with you. I would rather be doing the cleanup and not having to scratch my trying to figure out all the ins and outs of estates and all that other garbage. Christina and Steve have my deepest sympathy.
Speaker B: Yeah, they're definitely. I still say I got the better end of the deal. Yeah, they're joking aside, they're getting through it. They're slowly but surely. We've kind of hit a point where we can't do much, much more until we get some paperwork back from the mortuary and stuff like that. So it's kind of a break. Christina decided to go into the office and work a half a day, which she said was kind of interesting because it's the first time she's been in there in literally a year. It's weird to think that we moved away about nine days ago, 10 days ago, a year ago.
Speaker A: Well, you know, it either seems like just day before yesterday or forever ago.
Speaker B: Yeah, it was weird coming back. We had to go to Santa Rosa yesterday for a little while. And being that I worked for four years in San Leandro and took that drive, well, part of that drive back every day. It was amazing how once I got back on 80 or 880 or whatever it is, one of the 80s, my brain just kind of went into autopilot. I stopped looking at the directions and just was able to drive to get back here. Her parents live about three blocks away. From where we used to live, mom and stepdad. So it was really, it was just autopilot back home. I mean, we did live here for nine years and it was only a year ago we went and we've been doing our tour of favorite places to eat that we don't have in Tennessee while we've been here. So that's been at least one enjoyable break from all of this extra stuff.
Speaker A: Well, yes you do. You look for the good moments where you can so. And muscle memory does apply to driving directions too.
Speaker B: Yeah, it was weird because when I sat and thought about it yesterday after we got back home, I was like, man, this was the first time. I was probably awake during that drive doing 24 hour shifts and everything. I was usually zombie coming home. Which in retrospect was probably not the best thing in the world. Good thing for muscle memory. I had a friend once that called it time traveling.
Speaker A: Oh yeah. It's kind of scary when you get
Speaker C: to some place and you think, I
Speaker A: don't remember getting here. I remember getting in the car and here I am and I don't remember anything in between. And that is scary.
Speaker B: Yeah. I remember one instance when I was still working at Disney. I had a stick shift vehicle. I remember getting off of a 12 hour shift or actually it might have been even longer than that. It might have been a 20 hour shift and taking the bus to the employee parking lot. I remember getting in the car and saying I am too tired to drive home and putting the seat back and like I'm just going to take like an hour nap. Which wasn't technically allowed but we usually could get away with it. The guard who was working too much and I remember putting the seat back and I remember closing my eyes and then I remember opening my eyes, sitting up and I was in my parents dress driveway. That scared the literal crap out of me. I was shaking when I got out of the car because I thought I was waking up in the employee parking lot and I woke up 45 miles of three freeway changes later.
Speaker A: Wow, that was scary. Well, we look forward to seeing you and Christina and Steve tonight. It's probably going to be a madhouse, but it will be a good time and there will be, like I say, lots of tears, lots of laughter and we will honor Ray and that's great that we're all having that chance to come together as a community.
Speaker B: Yeah, it was funny. Christina and I were talking about it and we were like, whether there's five of us or 50 of us, it'll be a Madhouse. Because those of us that would be going are a little bit on the cuckoo side of normal anyways. But yeah, we're really looking forward to it. Stephen, surprisingly, is really looking forward to it. He keeps just saying over and over again that he's blown away with how, how much unity has been around Ray and everything because he's, he didn't really grow up with his dad being around. He, he moved out when he was 16, Steven moved out when he was 16. So he, he didn't really know that side of Ray enough to know that people cared about him and all that fun stuff. So it's, it'll be really awesome to get him in the room with a bunch of people who, you know, actually cared.
Speaker A: Oh, well, I know that Ray was really proud of Steve and enjoyed his time, the times that he got together with him. So yes, that will be a great thing.
Speaker B: Yeah. So like I said, we're looking forward to it. I'm excited to see everybody there. Plus the food ain't half bad, so that's a positive. Anyways, I gotta get back to work. I fly out tomorrow afternoon so there's only so much more time that I can be a muscle. Christina's gonna stay for probably another week, but we'll, we'll figure that stuff out. I've never flown somewhere where I got a one way ticket before, so it's been an interesting experience. Anyway, so 73 and we'll see you guys tonight. K6MJB.
Speaker A: Well, we'll see you tonight, so take care. Continue clean. Get. Get to work boy. Quit goofing off. This is WA60WF for the coffee break net. K6DLK. Dan. Good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning.
Speaker D: Theta. I didn't realize Jerry was being serious when he said I'll add you to the list. But just a quick good morning and a shared heavy heart. My best goes out to family and all those greetings for Ray. He'll be missed. Always loved how he came in. As I shared before with Jerry. He came in with all of his life experiences and held his own so well against all those with the book smarts. All of us who were listening in all these years to the wonderful check ins and met him a few times at the Hamfest and other get togethers and, and I have to say it was enjoyable conversing and hanging out.
Speaker A: Indeed.
Speaker C: Indeed.
Speaker A: Well, are you on your walk this morning or are you taking the morning off?
Speaker D: Everything's hitting the fan at once for me. There are a lot of different locations that are, are changing, requiring some updates and in having realtors and representations changing on them. And I'm having to put on different hats very quickly throughout the day. And I have to say, in my younger years, it was much easier to change modes very quickly. Now I have to really kind of take a moment and kind of get. Get into the groove and figure out exactly what I'm going into before I head in.
Speaker A: Well, you may do it better having to think about it than you did just doing it instinctively. So good luck and enjoy your day, as different and. And confusing as it may be. Yeah. Thanks, Peter.
Speaker D: It's interesting. It seems that things are really happening here in the Bay Area. I was thinking that things would be slowing down a bit, but things are picking up. There are companies that are making some significant changes and commitments to space. And we are not a big guy. We're a little, little family, just a tiny guy being bounced between all these huge, huge companies and players. And it's fun. Sometimes I have no control over the situation but enjoying how these other events are playing out and affecting us. So on that note, thanks for bringing us all together today. Zeta and aloha to all K6DLK.
Speaker A: Well, you have a great day and say good morning to Chris for us. This is WA60WF N9MUF. Daniel, good morning. Good morning, Theta.
Speaker C: And Annette if. I know Mark's got Annette coming up,
Speaker D: so if you want to put him
Speaker C: in front of me, I am more
Speaker D: than happy to wait. Click.
Speaker A: Okay, we will do that. WB6BJN. Mark, good morning. Okay, we got.
Speaker C: We got enough time here, I think, but I won't be too long. And thanks, Dan. Daniel, I thank you. Appreciate that, bud, because that does help me out just a little bit after the 8th, which is a week from Sunday. We won't have to worry about it then because once we go back to daylight savings time, 1700 hours comes later because my time changes. I mean, 1700 doesn't change or 1730 doesn't change, but our time does. So that comes closer to noon or afternoon for, for me.
Speaker B: So.
Speaker C: And we can all, you know, and it's the hour shifts from 11:30 to 12:30, so that'll work. But good morning, Theta. Good morning to everybody. And hey, what a neat, what a neat thing. You're going to have a, A life celebration for Ray. I'll tell you what, I do miss him coming in, you know, in that second round of in and outs, hearing his voice in there. And I sure do miss him being on in the morning there. Sada, go ahead.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Had so many good technical answers for people who were having problems. So these definitely will be missed.
Speaker C: Absolutely. He really kind of worked behind like Brian said the other day, he kind of worked behind the scenes.
Speaker A: So.
Speaker C: Celebration of life. What a, what a neat, what a neat thing.
Speaker A: Some good stories.
Speaker C: Wish I could be there to hear the. And eat a good burger too.
Speaker A: So.
Speaker C: But that, that'll all be all be good and good morning. Thomas and Christina out there too. Yeah, Thomas, I think was on a moment ago. Weather for California, you're going to have some beautiful weather. So you know, it's going to be absolutely fantastic today, tomorrow and Saturday. So for the, for the Fox Hunt on Saturday would be really some ideal weather. Temperatures in the 70s in the valley. Of course not as early as you have that, but still, you know, nighttime temperatures have been rather warm, you know, and even with the fog that's been around in the valley, temperatures have been above normal. It's been 50s and foggy because the dew points are in the 50s. And you know, that high pressure area out over Baja California has pushed north. And as it's done so it's locked in some moisture that came in from the tropics the other day, some rain to some areas and high elevation snow. But it locked in that warmer kind of tropical air. And it's, and you know, temperatures this morning have been in the 50s in the valley, going to get up into the 70s today once that fog all burns off. Now there is a dense fog advisory in the southern Sacramento, northern San Joaquin Valley, but it won't last all day. It'll burn off in the nice sunshine. You'll see that strange looking ball that's in the sky.
Speaker A: And
Speaker C: I think as you know, we get toward March, as we get toward March, you know, the days get longer, the nights get shorter and we're going to lose that fog because it just does. There isn't going to be enough time during the night pretty soon for it to really develop. So that's something to look forward to. Let me take a break.
Speaker A: That's the deal.
Speaker C: On Sunday there's an upper level, what we call an upper level devil, an upper level closed or cut off low pressure area that could bring some showers and thunderstorms over the Sierras and at the same time it could bring a chance of some rain even to the valley.
Speaker B: Not a lot.
Speaker C: I don't think it's a big deal. But Sunday and Monday and then high pressure will kind of rebuild and the 6 to 10 and 8 to 14 day outlook calls for above normal temperatures and below normal precips. So you know what? Spring is on the way. I wouldn't say, say put the winter clothes away quite yet because March is a funny month and so can be April, but I think you're on the downward side now and things are going to get warmer if for no other reason because the length of day changes. And so that's what's going on there. And I'll tell you what's going on here on the next after some comments and a few things there. Back to you there. Theta WB6BJ.
Speaker B: Good morning, Mark.
Speaker E: Hang on. Sorry I had to cough. Didn't want to do it in the mic. This is Jerry WA6E. Appreciate the report. Yeah, we still need the rain, Mark, even though we're not going to get the snow. So hopefully this spring we'll see some rain. April is one of those months where we can go either way. What I need to know before you tell me about the weather in Tennessee is do you have available to you rainfall and accumulation total so we know how we're doing compared to last year or how our rainfall is doing compared to normal, that type thing? That would be interesting to know.
Speaker C: You know what, I had a hard time getting that information even when I lived in California. I think you guys are a little below normal. Although I don't have exact totals. I need to work on getting that. Jerry, that, that would be good. But being a weak La Nina year, you actually aren't doing too bad, especially with the snow. That's more important than the rain. And there was parts of the Sierras that got.
Speaker A: Updated local information. Flood warning with multiples. View flint. Good.
Speaker B: K6LNK System 36, no mountain range.
System7 link up.
Speaker A: Four and five feet of snow last week and that was kind of a saver, you know, and hopefully, hopefully you'll get some good rain yet in March and April. But this is the time of the year. Now, my grandfather used to say if you didn't get it in February, you didn't get it at all because now is the time when rainfall totals really start declining from March on. There, there. Go ahead.
Speaker B: Comments, go ahead.
Speaker A: I think I read somewhere that even though there was a lot of snow in depth, it was a very cold, very dry snow. Water content.
Speaker B: Okay, well, the water content, the snow is one thing.
Speaker C: Hang on.
Speaker B: Just wanted to make sure I wasn't doubling. Mark, I saw a number on the news the other night, Channel 40 news, and he said we were 104% of normal. But what he didn't tell me is that 104% of where we normally are today or is it 104% of our yearly total? You know, it always leaves me wondering a little bit we're going to have water for the summer. I have no doubt about that, but it's always good to know. And Mark, believe it or not, they're actually about to start building a new reservoir here. Who ever heard of such a thing, huh? Cites reservoir S I T Z E S Seitz Williams. North of Sacramento, just off, just to the west of I5. So hopefully we'll be able to retain a little bit more of that water when we do get some. Yeah, try that transition again. You're really noisy. And Mark Standby.
Speaker A: Can answer the question. You're 104% to the good. You're for the season. WB6BJN.
Speaker B: Out of all of that, what I heard was Chuck. Now, Chuck, you're in Redwood City. I'm surprised you're getting in at all. I'm a graduate of west side High School, so I know where you are. The repeater is in Auburn, up northeast of Sacramento on I80.
Speaker A: How's the weather? It's really far here.
Speaker C: Painful solicitude.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's gorgeous here. Chuck, before you get too far, can you give me your call sign? Fanatically and Mark will be back to you in a minute.
Speaker A: Yes, sir. November 6th. America for November 6th. Always friendly. I try to live up to something. It's over.
Speaker B: Okay, Chuck, I got it in 6 AF. My call is whiskey after 6 echo. So thanks for checking in with us and it's amazing to hear you on. And just like that, Mark, the. The path closes. When Tom SSN was over there In San Mateo, he could get in sometimes, too. So sorry for the interruption. Back. Back to you, Mark. This is Waxe.
Speaker A: Yeah, from what I understand, if you're at 104%, you're in good shape. You're in, you're in, you know, if you're above your normal for the season, you're at 100, and that's for the given season. So actually, this was kind of a wetter La Nina. It came with a big dry spell, a couple of big dry spells, but that's normal. And that's why you had so much fog in the Valley, because you had so much rain early and then. And the reason Chuck was, was as good as he was is because of the high pressure, an inversion layer that's ducting, and that happens during the summer and also during these spells of higher pressure and light winds. So that's the deal. Now for back here, it's also warming up. There's a. Daniel could get. I think there was a little light snow back in Illinois early this morning that's going on into Ohio, and there could be another system for late Saturday and Saturday night. And now they're trending that further south into south southern Illinois. So the entire area could be in for some snow over the weekend and a little bit colder temperatures, and then it's going to warm up next week. In fact, warmer conditions are kind of taking over the entire nation. And it's a battle between cold air and warm air. We got to be careful of that because the battle between two air masses can lead to one of two things. Freezing rain in places where there's cold air and warm air mix. And it can also lead to severe weather depending on how great the battle is between the air masses. And Daniel, you had some of that in parts of Illinois last week. Ryan hall covered that. Let me take a break. And so that is, you know, with the warmer temperatures coming, there's a price tag that can be watched. And so there are signals for that change in the season. And that's when severe weather can happen even down here in Tennessee, the Mid south, especially, especially in the Deep South. So got to be on a lookout for that. Nothing is being forecasted right now, but it is being forecasted that next week, middle of the week, there could be some heavier rain and also some temperatures in the 60s and 70s and stuff we haven't heard of in a while. But you might even get a good day for a poda. There might even be some good weather for a PODA coming. So there you go. That's kind of what I'm hearing. And it looks like the sun just came out here. We had a half inch of rain here and so we're. It looks like we're going to have a nice day. It looks like sun's coming out. That's it for me. And I don't want to. I want get Daniel in here. And thanks everybody for my rambling and it'll get better as time goes on. I guarantee a nice weather for everybody. Back to you there, Jerry, or Theta. WB6BJ.
Speaker B: Okay, Mark. Yeah, somebody came to the door. Theta's taking care of that issue. I'm looking at the map here and except for K4LGI there in Denver is getting a little bit of snow. The rain is primarily in the southeast just to the east of where you are, so it's looking pretty ugly there. But appreciate the update and see what you can find out about percentage rainfall. That would be kind of a nice statistic for you to be able to provide because that is of concern to us. And I did have to laugh. You said that it would result in, you know, serious weather even here. And I think, yeah, especially where you are. That's the cradle of a lot of this stuff. When the news comes. You used to live here. You know, when the news comes on about bad weather in tornadoes often there's not a start to Texas goes up through Kansas and Oklahoma and even over to where you were and up in Ohio, Dayton, we got a lot of it as well. Little twisty things.
Speaker A: Have a good one.
Speaker B: Go to your next net. We'll hear you on manana. This is WA6E Daniel N9 MUF. Good morning.
Speaker C: Good morning, Jerry. Theta in the net. It's always good to hear Mark's weather reports. Even though, you know, if we get snow this weekend, I'm going to hold him responsible.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's the American way. We don't have to take responsibility for anybody anything. Let's pile up on Mark.
Speaker A: Take care, guys.
Speaker C: Mark, Day one one of the net mornings. Let's see. So what's going first of all, yeah, everybody will be there tonight. If you can just raise a pint for me. Definitely missing Ray right now. Having a great day so far. Coffee seems to be working. I'm actually a little bit ahead of the schedule for the day and that's a good thing. Might be able to breathe today and been beating my head against my Mac. Somebody that reached out to me after a couple of classes and asked for some mentorship is a Mac person and not a Windows person and the software for the Anytone Radio that he purchased, which I've also got one so that helps. Does not natively play with Windows or with Mac. So I've been trying to figure out how to get it to work for him. Might wind up playing around with Chirp as well, but trying to find a path for him. He was saying he was going to find a cheap Windows laptop and I'm like, look, we can find another way around this. I'm trying to keep from having to go buy something that he shouldn't need to buy.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm scratching my head on that one. Your Anytone Radio, you're able to use Chirp software to program from you. Are you using Windows or Mac?
Speaker C: I programmed it using Windows. I've got Windows, Mac and Linux here in my home. I'm one of these people that is the best system for the job. He's Mac only. So what I'm doing is recreating everything I did on my Mac and trying to find something I can walk him through remotely. So no, I didn't default software, but I may wind up falling back on Chirp if I cannot figure out how to create com ports under Wine under macOS.
Speaker B: Surely there's some Mac Facebook page or something where you can post a question like that. Is there anybody listening here on the coffeebake. Net who knows the answer to Dan's query? How do you define com port on a Mac?
Speaker C: A I6US comment.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm surprised, Daniel, that we didn't get an avalanche. Go ahead, Brian. Yeah, maybe a solution would be one of those.
Speaker C: What are they? Bluetooth dongle K1 programming ports, you know, because if the software is working but the port is not being established, that Bluetooth K1 device probably would do the trick. AI 6 US.
Speaker B: Yeah, what do you think, Dave?
Speaker C: Thank you very much, Brian. I'll look into that.
Speaker B: Well, very good. Thanks, Brian. I appreciate the thoughts. And Danielle, it's nice of you to help the fellow out. I will admit that I am not an Apple expert, although I do have an Apple iPhone.
Speaker C: I've been using Macs at work for the last, oh gee, 15 years. I've really come to enjoy them. I've got my stock software that I install on them within a few minutes of getting my hands on a Mac. And so it's nice to be able to say to people, look, I'll figure out the solution for your particular os. I'm not one of these people who are Windows only or Linux only or Mac only. As I said, I try and use the right tool for the job or make what's available there. I haven't done much radio on a Mac, but I'm tempted to actually hook it up to my icon 7300 and play around with it. Just more out of a hey, look, I got it to work approach.
Speaker B: Yeah. So you're an AM or FM type guy. Well, that's impressive. Years ago I was making my own computers and then I was stationed in Washington D.C. and my boss and I went down to the Federal Computer Show. This would have been about 1988 or 89 and it was the first time I got introduced to Windows and Mac and whatnot. I went up to the Apple Pavilion and they had these beautiful monitors with color and whatnot. I was quite impressed. And then I found out that to use those you could only use their software and it cost a lot of money. And of course all the rest of the place was filled up with Windows type people and DOS people and the knockoffs and so forth, and they were just a fraction of the price of the Windows. So I went with Windows and. And you know, once you start down one path, you tend to stay with it. So, you know, I really, I never had an Apple computer, just the iPad and iPhone. So yeah, good luck with that.
Speaker A: Well, when he said he was Mac
Speaker C: only, I, you know, I pointed out
Speaker A: to him that I gave the class
Speaker C: from a Mac and was more than willing to try and work on the solution for him before he tried to throw money at it. And of course the fun part about that is I'll learn a bit more about the system as well and maybe come up with a solution that can help other people. Brian, like I said, I'll look into that particular solution. I'm trying to do it purely in software, so he's not throwing any money at solution, but I'll see what can be done.
Speaker B: Okay, quick question for you, and this is not meant to be facetious. Have you tried asking Chat GPT this question?
Speaker C: An answer there seem to sync up with some things I found online. So I will throw it@chat GPT and see what it comes up with. No, you're not. I don't think you're facetious at all. Sometimes you wind up looking at everything but the 1:3 solution or the one webpage or the one AI solution that gives you the answer.
Speaker B: Yeah, this is WA6E. A few days ago I was working on a spreadsheet and I was trying to make data flow from one cell to another and had to do a Lot of manipulation to it. And I used a version of Excel that's from 2003 and the reason is I don't want to use a subscription service. I just want to buy the software and use it until hell freezes over. So I'm still using it. I went on a chatgpt and said how do I do this? And it came back and said write this in this cell. That was a big long equation and functions and whatnot and it would have taken me ever to research that I just copied and put in there. It works. So I'm quite impressed with that service.
Speaker C: I've used Chat GP to generate software from time to time, generate some programs. I've never had it generate a program that I could run without a fair amount of editing. It'll get me 80% of the way there but I find that the other 20% I've got to finish up. When I wind up doing that, I've used it for QA of software just, you know, so, so I can get a QA of the workflow before I deploy and have used AI in building out some radio stuff. But I, I will definitely keep that in mind and give it a shot and see what happens. But other than that it's just going to be a good radio and cat filled day. So I think, definitely looking forward to it and hoping we don't get too much snow here. It's, it's. I looked at the weather for Monday and was. It was like, yeah, that's borderline. I'm not sure I really want in that. But we'll see what happens come Monday. I just want to be ready for it. Regardless, I should pass it on. It's always a pleasure, Jerry. Jerry. And all is good to be within that. N9 MUF73.
Speaker B: Well, I have it on good authority, Mark, that spring is on the way so hopefully you won't have any problems. Are you in northern Illinois or southern Wisconsin?
Speaker C: I am in northern Illinois. I am in Joliet, Illinois which is one of the far southwest suburbs of Chicago. So it's about a 50 mile drive in my suburb is the last stop on the Metro train and I picked this suburb when I decided to buy a house because it was.
The Gears Net will be held Tuesday night starting at 7:30pm all amateur radio operators are welcome to join in on the net W6 RHC repeater check 2.
D.
Speaker A: Half an hour from the drop zone
Speaker B: I was skydiving at. I thought my job could change, but I'm going to keep skydiving. And that wound up ending when my son was about 2 years old. Not because I was afraid of suffering, suffering from sids, but more he was getting up and walking around and starting to be a hazard to himself and others at the drop zone. And I could either skydive or I could be with him and I picked him. And I've never regretted that.
Speaker C: Oh, I didn't know you did skydiving, but I understand.
Speaker D: Yeah.
Speaker C: I would also be concerned about now having a son and you gotta make sure that he has a father around to grow up. Skydiving is somewhat unforgiving of mistakes. I know where you are.
Speaker A: We used to go up to Chicago
Speaker C: quite a bit, had a cousin live in. So we would go out there and enjoy the snow at Thanksgiving.
Speaker E: Daniel, have a great one.
Speaker C: Let us know how your poda goes.
Speaker B: We'll do an 73N 9 MUF
Speaker C: 73. This is WA6C. Give the mic back to Theta.
Speaker E: And this is WA60WF. We are. Let's see, done with that list. Some things coming up tonight is our all notes. No, it's the weekly net tonight at 7:30. Or if you're in the local area and you are so inclined and able, we're all getting to get at 5 at Brewster's Burgers to have a celebration of life for Ray tomorrow night. Nothing happening tomorrow night. All notes net on Monday at 6 on the repeater and next Wednesday is the Elmer net at 7:30. So some things coming up imminently. This is the Coffee Breaknet. I'm waccwf. Who else is out there who wants to join in and share some conversation with us and continue enjoying this community?
Speaker F: Alpha India 6 Uniform Serum.
Speaker G: Brian for a quick in and out.
Speaker D: Jj4lgi in and out.
Speaker E: K6jjd up in red bluff. See, I got sam. K4lgi is in and out and brian is ai6us. Brian, good morning. Thanks for honchoing our repeater system and making sure everything continues to work.
Speaker F: Yes, this morning along with Doug and Tom. A little scrambling just to. We're still trying to chase down a gremlin. But anyway, I have a little word of advice that was passed on to me when I used to skydive and I thought maybe I'd just pass that on to other skydivers. The advice to me was if at first you don't succeed, don't skydive.
Speaker E: Yes, skydiving is not for you actually. If at first you don't succeed, splats
Speaker F: many things in life play into that saying. But no, Just looking forward to seeing everybody this evening at KK6am's Celebration of Life. Good to see Christina and Thomas again and yeah, it will be a fun evening ahead. And yeah, looking forward to the fox hunt as well this weekend. So just a reminder, everybody out there, you don't even need to be a ham radio operator to join in on the fox hunt. Don't need to be a member of the club. Just come on out and we have a great time.
Speaker E: And I understand that various people have equipment and so forth. If you haven't done it before, you can hook up with someone who has and they'll, you know, make a little fox hunting team and they'll show you the road.
Speaker F: Yep. You can team up with more experienced fox hunter. Ride along with them. And yeah, we just suggest if you do have an ht, do bring it along because it can be handy using a technique called block body flagging and can be quite effective for finding the hidden fox. But really looking forward to seeing to Bonnie, meeting Bonnie and Dee Dee and definitely seeing Brett at another fox hunt. With that, I'm keeping it short, but thanks for taking the net this morning and good morning to everyone.
Speaker E: It's always fun. We talk about a wide variety of things, don't we? Solve technical problems and exchange recipes. So what could be better? You have a great day, Brian, and thanks for kind of backfilling some of the information on the log here. This is DWF for the coffee breaknet SAM K4LGI. It looks like you're getting a little bit of snow.
Speaker D: Well, I'm trying to stay on top of it, but from what I have seen at a glance, it appears to be about the first week in March. Pretty good amount of snow here. But right now I don't see a cloud in the sky and I guess I'm not on top of the reports that well, but I do check the temperature every morning before I go out in the mornings here. I just got back too long ago this morning and had a nice cup of coffee and a couple of bacon, egg and cheese biscuits here.
Speaker G: It's kind of cool here.
Speaker D: Maybe some somewhere in the 40s, maybe lower and slight breeze is that breeze that really gets to me.
Speaker E: Well, Jerry blew the map up and the snow is over Grand Junction in that part of the country. Well, it still all runs into the right watershed, so that's good. Glad that you had a Nice cup of coffee this morning and that. You're having a good day there.
Speaker D: Yes. You know, I've been looking for a new watchman everywhere and I got one this morning. I got back and I managed to change. Push those little pins in and change it with my fingernails. But it took a little while.
Speaker E: I could still do it.
Speaker D: And my day was made right off the bat getting that watch band and getting installed. I was quite happy with that. So, yeah, I was looking at the weather in the future there. So it said something like maybe 12 and a half inches or something around 3-6-7, whatever weekend that is. You know, March is coming up pretty soon here, so got to be prepared for March, I guess. And that's on the other side of the mountains there over in Grand Junction. That's across the mountains.
Speaker F: Weather is quite different.
Speaker D: A lot of times the snow doesn't quite make it over the top into this area. So they may well be getting some snow today. It is a little bit cool, but I don't think we'll get in here. I'll be surprised if we do. So just listening in this morning, conversations here and there and not too much going on. I see that Dave has that Mark 2 ICOM705, which is something for sale. That's a darn good rig. I didn't realize it only ran 10 watts. I thought it ran maybe a little more than that. So I'll sign out here and not just drag it out and have a nice day and we'll talk to everybody later. K4LGI.
Speaker E: Well, you have a good day, Sam. This is WA CWF for the coffee breaknet. Who else do we have out there to join in and discuss things with us this morning? K6jjd up and red Bluff. Well, victor, looks like you're my one and only. Good morning. This is wa6ewf data. And how is texas?
Speaker D: Oh, it's very, very wonderful.
Speaker A: We're just living the dream over here in North Texas. And so, yeah, just playing a little all star this morning and listening to the wonderful dialogue of the. The morning brew here coming in from the west coast. We always enjoy it and so we'll just bit 73 all the way around. Everybody have a great day. KB5A K O.
Speaker E: Well, glad that you checked in and I'm glad that we're all being amusing to you. That means all. All you people out there listening, you need to come in and talk because our job is to keep everybody company. This morning, Thomas, while he's cleaning, Victor is listening. And so hopefully we will have more entertaining things for you. You have a great day. We looked up Bluffdale southwest of Fort Worth, is that right?
Speaker A: Yes, that is correct. We are 55 miles southwest of Fort Worth. And you know, some people around the country, they've never heard of Fort Worth, so they seem to always know Dallas, Texas. Wonder why.
Speaker E: But.
Speaker A: So we're 75 miles southwest of Dallas, Texas. We're out here in a very rural area, a one horse community. But after living in Houston for 65 years and retiring, we decided to come out here in the north central Texas area in this very rural area. And everything is different. Everything. Politics, crime, lack of crime thereof here actually. Ecosystems, wildlife, you name it, it's different. We love.
Speaker E: Yeah, Houston. When I think of Houston, I think of humidity and traffic. And so living out in the area where you are now sounds like an absolutely wonderful change.
Speaker A: We do not miss the humidity at all. And boy, boy was it terrible in Houston. You start to exert any kind of physical exercise or work out there in Houston in no time flat. Your blue jeans are sopping wet and it's just crazy. So we don't miss the hurricanes either.
Speaker D: So.
Speaker A: Okay, well, carry on. I'm going to get back on this. I've got a API issue here with All Star on my four nos that I think I have finally conquered and I just want to make sure I put the finishing touches on it. So we'll let y' all carry on. Have a great one KB5.8 KO.
Speaker E: Well, carry on. Have a successful, successful fix on your All Star and glad that you checked in to talk to us. You have a great day. This is WHFCWF for the Coffee breaknet. Who else is out there?
Speaker G: Kr6tc. Good morning, Jerry. Good morning.
Speaker E: Okay, let's see. I got Ki6TC Glenn, and I think that was Anna. But you're really broken up, is that correct? Well, Glenn, I'll talk to you and I'll come back to Anna in a little bit. Good morning, Glenn. What are you up to this morning?
Speaker G: I'm just enjoying a cup of coffee and a piece of toast with avocado smeared on it and banana. That'll get me going until I get serious about breakfast.
Speaker D: But.
Speaker G: Well, I'm waiting for Edward to show up. I wanted to tell you that last night I cooked some artichokes in the, in the crock pot slow cooker and it would have taken probably about three hours to on high heat to actually they were edible. But I know I told you 30 minutes and that was true, but they must have been fresh. Somehow it worked. But I'm sure if you tried, probably did not work for you. So I'm curious.
Speaker E: You know, honestly, I don't remember seeing artichokes in the grocery store recently, so I have to pay attention. I don't think I've cooked an artichoke in, I don't know, months. So I will try that. I got an instant pot recipe for it where you put them on a rack and put the water in under it. And it's supposed to work great. So I will try that out when I see an artichoke in the grocery store.
Speaker A: Amen.
Speaker E: You are not transmitting.
Speaker G: Lynn, we had a comment in there. I was just holding off, so I'll let you pick up the comment.
Speaker E: I did not hear that. Okay, go ahead, comment.
Speaker G: Okay.
Speaker F: Sickville UV Good morning again. I was gonna say artichoke. The best recipe I've got for an artichoke is in a pressure cooker. And I think your probably the same way. There's data, but yeah, in a pressure cooker, artichokes get done in 12 minutes. They're delicious. KB6 luv. Clear.
Speaker E: Well, now I got to go to the grocery store. Okay, that's definitely going to be a trial for me to check that out. So, Glenn, what else have you tried cooking in your. You do your slow cooker or an instant pot?
Speaker G: Well, I'm glad for that comment because that's my next adventure with the artichoke is in the instant pot. And 12 minutes sounds. I was going to give it about 15 minutes, but I'm going to try 12 minutes. And you know when the leaves separate easily, you know that that's cooked. And I swear to you that I recently told you that I cooked artichokes in my slow cooker and on high. And they were wonderful. And yes, there are jokes in the grocery store. I don't know Winco. At least where we shop we find artichokes.
Speaker E: Well, maybe I just haven't paid much attention to that, so I will go check that out because we do like artichokes. I had never eaten one until I married Jerry. And I think we were visiting his parents and his mother cooked artichokes. And I thought people eat that. But I have become a convert.
Speaker G: Yeah, once you try it, you're hooked. Life. And at least that's my experience, so. Well, I'm also waiting for a friend to show up, Herbert. And he should be here any minute. And if the doorbell. I'm gonna drop everything and run. It's nice to be able to chat with you this morning, and I just don't. Well, let's see. One thing I did want to mention. Chihuahua.
Speaker A: That just sounds wrong.
Speaker B: Well, Edward and I were at Mission Coffee in Auburn.
Speaker C: And
Speaker B: a table next to ours, there was a. I didn't notice it at first, but Edward pointed out to me, and I walked over and looked at that dog sitting on the table, walking around the table top, and I asked the owner if. If that was a rat. I didn't mean to insult him in any way, but I'm telling you, it's.
Speaker C: It's.
Speaker B: Look it up on the web or on YouTube and you'll see how small they are.
Speaker A: It's.
Speaker B: It's just incredible.
Speaker A: And.
Speaker B: And the dog was very well behaved. Wasn't excitable or anything. Just calm and walked over and smelled my hand. And the owner said, sit. And that little puppy wasn't. Puppy. It was actually three years old.
Speaker A: I was going to ask if you were sure it wasn't a puppy, because we were at some gathering. RV gathering. And the animal shelter people came and. Because, of course, sometimes they get people who want to adopt a dog. And the people across from us were, oh, no, no, no, we're not even looking. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. And then the next thing we know, the guy's carrying around this Chihuahua puppy, which was about the size of a nickel. And how are you going to make sure that you don't step on that? But, yeah, those are. The puppies are teeny tiny. So I will look up miniature Chihuahua.
Speaker B: Okay, well, Herbert just rang my phone. I'm going to quickly say 73 and get out of here, but I will be listening, and I enjoy talking to you and Jerry and Danette, so carry on this Ki6TC7 3.
Speaker A: Well, you have a great day and enjoy your outing with Hubert. This is WA6EWF KD3AJM. Anna, did that. We hear you in there.
Speaker D: Good morning, Theta. How does this sound?
Speaker A: Much better. Much better.
Speaker D: Well, I'm not at home. I'm not at my son's house visiting my grandchildren, and I'll be going back home on Saturday. So I'm in Newcastle, Pennsylvania, so just visiting with them.
Speaker A: Very good. What fun. That's always a nice time. So hope you have a great.
Speaker D: I'm sure I will. I just wanted to give you a quick check in and say hello and III ajn.
Speaker A: Well, say hi to your whole family for us. We're glad that you checked in with us. Jerry says a few miles west, you'd be in Ohio. Okay. We like to look up where people are. You have a great day and enjoy your family. This is WA6EWF this is the Coffee Breaknet. So who else is out there who wants to talk about miniature Chihuahuas?
Speaker C: November 6th.
Speaker B: Foxtrot mike delta.
Speaker C: Jimmy,
Speaker A: Let me check your call. Jimmy. Is it k06fmd?
Speaker C: Negative. November 6th.
Speaker A: November 6th. Well, there you are. So what's up for your day today?
Speaker C: Well, my parents came in town yesterday, my sister comes in town today, and my youngest daughter gets married tomorrow. So originally I was. Well, we, we had some luggage crisis yesterday and a rental car crisis yesterday. So we got all that sorted out. Typical. Typically the way these things go, right. And then the chaos in the house is getting a little crazy. So I have a car full of flowers and I'm gonna go do a PODA and just relax and let the chaos sort itself out. I got my schedule, I got my checklist, I know what I gotta do. And I'm going to escape the, the craziness of the family for just a brief moment, get some radio time in and then about one o' clock the chaos will start again.
Speaker A: Oh my goodness, yes. What fun. We went through that with both of our daughters where there was a lot of chaos. Fortunately, we really weren't responsible with either of them. A whole lot of stuff other than providing the money. So that, that was much more relaxed.
Speaker C: Yeah, well, we helped out there too. We gave him a budget because this stuff gets crazy expensive and we say, here's your budget and anything you do that's over that you do it however you want. We gave him an option. We say, you know, you actually could
Speaker B: use this money and put a good
Speaker C: size down payment on a house and do a smaller wedding or you can use it however you want. And they chose to do a wedding, my wife and I, and I don't know, I mean, We've been married 35 years together for 36, so it's hard to say what we would do too. But I don't know, nowadays stuff is so expensive and it's hard for me to stomach seeing that much money go to one day. Although it's a beautiful day, amazing day. We did the same thing for my middle child. She got married two years ago and then my oldest will be getting married in probably another two years. So. But anyway, it's, you know, it's their day, they can do it the way they want. But that was, that was my initial thought. But yeah, it's. I don't know, I guess it's different. Like I'm emotional, you know, it's my little girl. I was emotional when my middle child got married. They're my little girls and now somebody else is technically really responsible for them and you have to let them go and do their thing. Of course, we've been kind of doing that since I went to college and everything else, but I don't know, it's like the final deal, right?
Speaker A: Yep. You're a little girl. Jerry's Facebook picture is of him and our younger daughter. The father daughter dance at her wedding and they're both just sobbing and it's. Yeah. Jerry says he's Mr. Tough Guy. He doesn't cry at weddings. At his daughter's wedding, he. He is such a softie. It's a great picture. Well, I am sure that it will be a wonderful event. You've gotten all the disasters out of the way and you're gonna have just a great day and weather is beautiful for it tomorrow.
Speaker C: Yeah, we got fortunate. Of course I watch the weather because I part of the NorCal Skywarn group there and one of the founders of the NorCal Skywarn organization. And I tell you what it was, I just wasn't sure how it was going to go. I mean, we had contingent plans and we, we had tents ready to be rented and that crew was awesome. They said they could get it set up in a couple hours. Of course then we would have to do all the tables, but, you know, it all worked out. It's going to be a beautiful wedding, a beautiful weekend, and we don't have any weather coming in and it's be to going be nice and warm. The photos are going to look great. So I'm really excited about once the event kicks off after that it's all fine. It's just. And honestly, I think a lot of the chaos is just not necessary. But I'm a guy, so I have a different perspective. I noticed that all my girls and my wife have, you know, their, their thing going and then all of us guys, the grandfathers and the fiance and the other husband, you know, we have a different approach and we're more relaxed. I will say this though, the difference between maybe my group planning a wedding and let the women do it is we would have lawn chairs and pizza and it just wouldn't be that awesome. And when you let the women get involved, they just are freaking amazingly talented and put together floral things and they know how to do the table things.
Speaker B: And you know, I'm not speaking for
Speaker C: all guys and all women, but I'm saying in my family and my group, we would not have a really pretty amazing photogenic videography worth wedding if it was us putting it together. So I am very grateful for the skills and the talents and the differences between the two.
Speaker E: Good morning, Jimmy, this is WA60. I understand what you're saying. My role in it was just to provide the money. But the girls did a good job and they were very conscientious about the expense of it. You can spend untold sums of money on a wedding. I mean, if you saw that movie Crazy Rich Asians, you saw a good example of that. So they did a good job and they were just as married as if it had been done in a cathedral. While I'm talking to you, I went over to your QRZ webpage and my goodness, you got a lot of photos in here of you on the air. It looks like out in the desert, up in the mountains. A lot of them look like they were taken down near Folsom Lake. You have a nice looking set up there.
Speaker C: Yeah, it's kind of my thing. It's my mental health spot. I used to ride a bike all the time to get out in nature and then started operating radio because my knees out. And when I'm done with the radio, I literally turn it off and just relax. And so that's how I get out in nature. The other, other reason all the time is my noise. Floor at the house is so loud I can't use hf. I didn't realize it was that noisy because when I first started HF, it was 2024 somewhere or. Yeah, somewhere around there or a little bit before that was the end of 2023 and you know, everybody was 10 over. And then when the band conditions changed and the solar cycle began to shift, I began to realize, oh crap, I got a terrible noise for it. And so I go out and operate all the time. But yeah, we do a lot of traveling. And so I get an opportunity to hit a lot of different locations. And I tell you, I really, really enjoy it.
Speaker E: Well, that's good. I'm looking at a picture of you in the car here with your radio beside you on 14.317. So I take it when you're putting. You're not doing cw.
Speaker C: I'm working on cw. One of the things I have, I have some ear damage and tones are really hard for me to hear. And so depending on. And I'm starting to play around with the frequency settings to where. I mean, it's not going to be good to someone else's ears, but I can hear it. And so I'm working on that. And I really want to do CW. I'm really getting into the 10 watt, 5 watt operations, and it's a lot of fun and SSDs, it's okay. But CW is more reliable and it's a whole other language, and I'm really excited about learning that. But, yeah, that's next on the list. I got. I think it's called CWmania that on the phone. It's an app where you can play games and instead of thinking of Diz and DAHs and you can, you just start recognizing letters, words and numbers.
Speaker E: Yeah, that's true. I do a lot of FT8 and I see the CQ poda on there all the time. So FT8 is another alternative for you.
Speaker C: Yeah, and I do a lot of FT8 too. I know that a lot of us like the sideband, and so FT8 doesn't get utilized in here particularly. So I do a lot of FT8 as well. A lot of times I'll do a dual activation where I'll do an activation on single sideband and then go ahead and switch to FT8 so the guys who don't do sideband can also get the part. Oh, very good.
Speaker E: That's only fair. Were you at our Christmas party last year?
Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, I was there. I was there for the last two years. Okay.
Speaker E: For some reason, one of the questions I had on the trivia contest, I was going to repeat it to you here, except you know the answer. And the question was, if you're. Even if you're not a CW addict, when you hear this on cw, what's the mandatory response? Do you remember that question?
Speaker C: I was going to say, yeah, I went to the North Hills Club. Didn't go to the W60. I am a member of the club, but no, I didn't make it there. So I don't know the answer to the question.
Speaker E: Well, the question was, when you hear this on the air, what's the mandatory response? And it's da dit, dit, da dit or N, E, N. And everybody was scratching their head. People were complaining that they didn't do cw. And so I sent it to them, and it was.
Speaker C: Is that the song? Is that what that is? It's a song tone?
Speaker E: No, it's. It's. You hear this on CW all the time at the end, it's like shaving a haircut. And so what's the answer, Jimmy?
Speaker C: Giving a haircut Any in?
Speaker B: I don't know.
Speaker E: You need to know. They'll send you. And you send back dead, dead.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker C: All right. Well, I I guess I'll get it somewhere down the line.
Speaker E: Surely you've heard that old phrase, shave at a haircut, Two bit.
Speaker C: Okay, now I get it.
Speaker B: Two bits, two ditch.
Speaker C: Okay, I get it now.
Speaker E: Okay. Maybe you better stay on site.
Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, I don't. That does not resonate with me, but I. I get it. All right, well, very good.
Speaker E: Anyway, I was enjoying looking through all the pictures you had here, even out at the beach. I like that little antenna. Looks like a screwdriver.
Speaker C: Yeah. So that's a Wolf river coil, and I like that one because it takes up very little real estate. And all I got to do is throw a Faraday cloth out. So the only. Only wires I actually have coming off of it would be the coax. And then I got an RF meter I take with me, a digital one. Well, it checks all kinds of radiation, whatever does it all. And I set that on the table to see how close I can get it to me without radiating any harmful rf. And what I found is my cell phone puts off more harmful radiation than my antennas ever do.
Speaker E: Well, different bands. If you get that antenna situated you right, it'll heat up your ham and cheese sandwich for lunch. What do you use for an offset other than the coax?
Speaker C: Yeah, that's all you need. The only offset is the Faraday cloth. So you put the Faraday cloth down, and that replaces the ground radial. The entire antenna system is aluminum with a steel whip. And so the aluminum, the three legs, are enough contact on the Faraday cloth to get a really good tune until you get above 40 meters. It's a very resonant antenna. And so your offset is actually the Faraday cloth. It acts as the other part of the antenna.
Speaker E: I'm looking at your antenna out here on the beach somewhere, and I see that cloth underneath it. Until you mentioned that just now, I really didn't even know what a Faraday cloth was. But it provides some sort of a counterpoise, doesn't it?
Speaker C: Yeah. You know, I've been trying to find someone who has added that to modeling, and they have not done it yet. I know the military knows how it works, but there's no models to show you what it does. You know, where the magic happens on the radiation pattern. But I know from using radials to go switching to that verteclop, but it's. It made a tremendous difference. And even receiving contact, you can Hear a good S2 units between throwing down a Faraday cloth and throwing down ground radials. And the other thing is, it has a reflective Property. So there is no ground transfer, except for on the far fringes. You know, the edges of it, there are. There is no. No energy can pass through it. That's the whole purpose of a Faraday cloth. So the theory is that it actually is radiating more energy up than it would, you know, through any other means. But then again, I don't know what that radiation pattern looks like. Is it clean, is it not? I'm going to guess it's clean. Really good contacts on that antenna setup. As good as I get on my photo performer. So I'm really happy with it. I just wish that there was a way to not just know something's automatically working. I'd like to be able to model it and see what else you could do with Faraday cost.
Speaker E: That would be fun.
Speaker C: Also, does it work better in one
Speaker E: direction if you move your antenna to one edge of the cloth versus the other? Of course, when the bands are propagating, it doesn't make much difference. It would be fun to be able to model it, but I'm thinking of Ray KK 6am he'd probably say model Schmodel. Who cares? Move the antenna around. If it works, be happy and go with it.
Speaker C: Yeah, with the modeling helps you kind of know what to try, right? It doesn't mean don't try stuff. It just gives you a better idea what to expect, you know? What I found is the center. Putting it in the center and then pointing the cloth the length of the cloth, making it, like, typically, I'll point
Speaker B: it east, but I do know from
Speaker C: watching what I call the propagation or contact propagation map. Like, that's the map where you look, look at when you're done, where are all my contacts made? That thing is like a needle. So there is gain. So wherever I end up, what direction I. Whether I go north and south or whether I go east and west, whatever direction I point, that that is where I get the most contact. And it's very. It's a very recognizable pattern, you know?
D.
System7 link up.
And 6 grg 36 local.
Speaker A: From day to day or even day, even hour to hour. So I'll run, because I do a lot of experimenting. So I'll run it one hour one way, and I'll flip it and go the other way.
Speaker B: And there's a.
Speaker A: There is a noticeable pattern. And people can say that, you know, all the band conditions could have changed to this, that. Well, when you're out there every day doing a PODA and you're playing around with this stuff, the patterns don't shift that much, even though the band conditions are a lot different. You may not make as many one way or the other, but that directional pattern of where you are getting the most contact stays pretty consistent. I tried an X formation too. That worked miserably. So for me, what I found works best is cloth and pointing the direction that you want to talk.
Speaker B: This is WA6E. To some degree that makes sense to me, the purpose of a ground plane is to pull the signal down towards the horizon and less towards the sky. And so, you know, you're pulling the signal down towards the horizon in the direction you got that cloth laid out.
Speaker A: So that makes sense.
Speaker C: Well, have a great day.
Speaker B: I'm going to give the microphone back to theta. Pleasure talking to you, and I'll look for you on the air.
Speaker A: All right. Well, I know I speak for all of us. We really appreciate you guys doing the net and thank you for the conversation this morning. Exciting times for us here in my family, and thanks for allowing me to share it with everybody out there. I'll go ahead and let you guys get on to somebody else. I'm sure there's a lot of people out there. November 6th, Fox, Mike, Delta, back to SATA and FMD.
Speaker C: Clear. Thanks for checking in, Jimmy, and congratulations to your daughter. This is WA6EWF for the coffee breaknet. We are approaching rapidly the end of our morning together. So who else is out there who wants to do in and out or. I will take log only.
Speaker B: Kilo, india 6 papa, x ray, bravo,
Speaker A: Kilo, golf 9 mike, log only.
Speaker C: Ai6lz for the log.
Speaker D: W2dx for the log.
Speaker B: Okay, here's who I managed to pull out. Ki6pxb, papa xav, kg9m, ai6, lima, zulu, w1atb and w2bx. Everybody was for the log. Who did we miss? Kn6gpl for the log. Kilo Oscar, 6, Charlie, uniform, bravo for
Speaker D: the log only,
Speaker C: Please.
Speaker D: And 7 msm mobile for the lock.
Speaker B: Okay, I got kn6, gulfah, lima, gpl, k06cub, km6mm and n7msm. Anybody else?
Speaker C: Okay, well everybody whisper the log. We got you all in on our log. One last, one last chance. Log onlys are very quick in and outs. Who else is out there? I'm hearing nothing but the infamous crickets. I am going to say this has been the Coffee Break Net. The Coffee breaknet is sponsored by the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio club on the W60K repeater located in Auburn, California where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish, fish are jumping. So Bill and Ray are having a conversation in heaven. This is WA60WF returning the repeater to normal operation, whatever that may be. Everyone have a lovely day. Bye bye.
Speaker D: Have a great day. Theta and Jerry and I don't think we heard from Kennington Twin falls this morning. KG6 and LW. Great net this morning.
Speaker C: Well, I always put him on because he always checks in on his way home from work and sometimes I get to shut down the net before he gets in the truck. So he's, he's there, he'll show up. And I already have him on the list.
Speaker D: Oh, absolutely.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker D: It's always fun doing that. All right. Mobile in a way. KG6NLW.
Speaker A: What's going on, mike? Kn6mgk. Oh, took.
Speaker B: Took the doggie for a walk. Saw a few deer and snow over on Jasabali and got a lot of cell phone signal. Where I go on that walk, there's a lot of cell phone signal. Came back here and took care of a couple other chores and getting ready to make breakfast. Had a good net this morning. Had a guy come in from Victoria, Victoria island, bc, into that net. So that was kind of cool. Five watts. Nobody else could hear him. I don't have Internet, so I was hearing him direct only and fixed grt. What's going on?
Speaker A: Well, I don't know if you ever took care of your tooth problem, but I seem to have developed one. So I made an appointment with the dentist at noon today, so we'll see. Anyway, I've had some pain in my upper molar area. Wife says she thinks I've got a cavity there, so gotta get that taken care of. That's where I'm at.
Speaker B: Well, I do have a way to take care of infection, which is what you have if you have pain. Most likely have an infection. It's always good to take care of the infections before you ever make it to the dentist. But I've got a procedure that really works well, involves some 20% mouthwash and some other procedures I do. And yeah, I got. I got one thing from. I found out some information on these. Well, I'll pass it back before I talk. Change the subject. But, Neil, what do you think of that?
Speaker A: I don't know. Kind of cleaned up around the tooth and stuff yesterday. Pretty good, you know, with,
Speaker B: you know,
Speaker A: basically a pressure washer for the teeth that my wife has. She looked in there and she could see kind of where she thinks I have a cavity at the root, so. So I don't think. Yeah, I mean, the infection's a problem, you know, but that's not gonna. Just taking care of that isn't gonna affect the cavity, so. So that's why tennis Don appointment seems to be better today. The pain, anyway, but. Anyway, yeah, go ahead and change the subject. That's fine.
Speaker B: Well, you can have pain and infection without even having a cavity, and you can have a cavity without any pain. And you're right, you pretty much have to get in there and get it taken care of or that tooth will go away. Tooth will go away if the cavity is visible. So.
Speaker A: Sorry about that. I took the radio out of the charging thing and this battery in this Olinko is gone. I got to put that on my list and get another battery for it.
Speaker B: Yep. Well, yeah, all I got was dead air and I tried to key up and I couldn't get anything, so I just left it. Oh, I figured. Well, not sure what happened there.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was just saying that I had a cavity on a middle. It's a middle. Top tooth, the middle of my mouth, front tooth. My teeth are. I inherited a very crazy mouth and way, way too many teeth. And my mom had a dentist take out 13 teeth when I was about 10 years old and. And more teeth still came in and so, yeah, they're all crooked and everything. It's a real mess. And I don't know, I don't think I'll probably ever spend a thousands and thousands dollars to get a great smile, but. Oh, well.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, at that point I wouldn't be concerned about the smile. I don't know, that's the way they sell things a lot. But I'd just be, you know, content with healthy teeth and gums as healthy as possible. I don't care if they're crooked or whatever. But yeah, we spent quite a bit of money on my mouth and it still ain't perfect. And it had nothing to do with being a smile. But anyway, at some point I just gave up and said, I'm done. And they took all the orthodontia stuff off there and everything. I just living this way for the rest of my life and that's fine. So it is a lot better than it was. Dentists are important for sure. Generally speaking, over the last decade, I haven't had too many issues, but I have been going to the dentist quite regular twice a year. And recently it stopped for about a year now. And now I'm going to have problems, so I'm going to have to go back to going back to twice a year, I guess. KN6MTK.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, I, you know, as I said, you know, cavities are completely different than infections. They're not one in the same. I don't know if they even have much of a relationship. You can have infections without cavities and cavities without infection. It's just they're two different, very different things. And what I found, what I found out was the thing to do, like I say, is to use this mouthwash, but not just on your teeth. Use it on whatever you're gonna put in your. When you care for your Teeth, whatever you're gonna put in your mouth. Toothbrushes. I use this kind of like tiny little. It's a tiny little brush I use in between my teeth. And the ones that aren't jammed together, the ones that are jammed together, I can't even get flossed in between them. And I use that 20% alcohol on all these different things. And then I, After I'm finished brushing with my toothbrush, I take a swig of that same alcohol and. And swirl it around. So. And that's made all the difference in the world. I haven't had any. I've had one infection. You might remember. It was maybe six months or a year ago. I did lose. Like I said, I lost one tooth to a cavity. And like I say, once you. If you have a cavity that wasn't discovered by a dentist, your tooth is probably going to be kind very quickly. It's just amazing how cavities work. They're completely different, though, from. From completely different from infections. So. But, you know, they talk about fluoride. I believe in fluoride. I don't think my water here has fluoride, and I think that has helped my teeth since the day when I got here.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, I don't believe in fluoridated water, but fluoride toothpaste is another deal. I haven't been using it before I had toothpaste in quite some time, but I have used it and I think my wife's still using some. She has more of the dental issues than I do. But anyway, yeah, but I don't want to consume the fluoride, you know, but having it in your mouth and swishing it around with toothpaste and then spitting it back out, that's a whole nother thing than consuming it. And that's my opinion on the matter.
Speaker A: I use cheap mouthwash. The primary ingredient that's helping me in it is the 20% alcohol I've had. I've by mistake purchased mouthwash that didn't have alcohol in it. And I had an infection. And I'm going, well, what's going on? I looked at my mouthwash and, wow, this doesn't have the alcohol level that I. The 20% alcohol level that I need. You can have mouthwash and it'll say alcohol on it and might even have just 1%. You don't know what it's got. But if it says 20%, it reaches a special level where they have to say exactly how much it's got. I guess there's some kind of regulation There. But yeah, fluoride. I would love to see it in all mouthwash. I don't think it's there. I do see it in toothbrush and toothpaste. But yeah, teeth have always been a problem for me since I was a very young child and they knew I was going to have a problem with crooked teeth and. Jordan.
Speaker B: Okay, so let's move on. What was the other subject you were going to talk about?
Speaker A: Oh, let's see. Well, I forget what it was, but I was gonna say. I was thinking about saying, and I didn't mention that I'm Gonna have a 20 watt ICOM on the air pretty quick here. An IC22S, which is one of the radios that One of the YouTube channels guys was talking about. I don't know if you saw that he had an IC ICOM 22s and he. He kind of see it. The what? When they come direct from icom, they have this matrix board of diodes that caillou figure out your frequency. Well, then they, as the time went on, they added these rotary encoders and so forth and so on. And you build a diode matrix that was changed with the rotary switch, encoder switch. So they were able to come up with a way where you could actually turn the dial and change your frequency. What a concept. That's how old this radio is. But it's a great radio. And if all I need to do is put it on this frequency, I'll be happy with it. For. For that purpose only.
Speaker B: All right. Yeah, I think I'm just taking a look at that. That didn't pop up right away. It was interesting. But I remember Clarence talking about different kenwoods and different radios that needed encoders and stuff like that on them. I have several of these kind of radios sitting around here right now. A couple of them. They're like 2 meter only and. But I haven't messed with them. I got them at that gears auction when they were going to throw them all away, so I snagged them up and just put them in a pile here. So. Haven't ever had time to mess with them. Just like I don't have time to mess with a lot of things, but figured, oh, maybe one day I'll get to it, you know.
Speaker A: Well, if it's a radio for a dedicated frequency like this repeater, then, you know, you can hear. Usually have. And they. And they do have. I believe that it does have Pl sub audible atcss. I believe it has that. So I forget how you. How you program that though. But I've gotta look at the data on that radio and make it work. And it should have great modulation. I used it. The last time I used it was I built myself a. I got. I was out on the Trinity river taking care of this ranch. I lived at the ranch and you know like a third childhood kind of a thing. It was in the middle of the. No of nowhere. 70 acres right in the middle of the national forest with a. A road that went from the river about a mile before it got to the ranch. And it was gorgeous. It was just beautiful. A 10 acre meadow, 70 acre ranch, all the wood I could ever use. And it had a cabin and a big beautiful house. But the big beautiful house was summertime only. The cabin was very, very well insulated. Had a great wood stove in it. So I lived in the cabin. And yeah, the cabin had a shower and heater. I heated the water with propane I believe. And yeah, it was, it had everything I needed the wood stove heated, you know, gave me the perfect temperatures in the, in the thing. He'd open up the door at night and there'd be a whole ton of deer standing right outside. I've done that because my dog would let me know they were out there. So I'd open it up and whoa, there they were right in my face. And yeah, lots of bears over there.
Speaker B: There too. Okay, well, so I guess I'll bring up the next subject. I haven't talked to you in a couple days and you said you would probably have the PI 400 going because you had some help. How's that going?
Speaker A: Well, what I need to do, it hasn't arrived. It's going to arrive in the mail from the, from Arizona pretty quick here. And the last time this fellow helped me out I actually had more Internet than I have now. Now I have nothing except for the cell phone. And the cell phone I have to go outside. Although I see there's two bars on my phone right now. That's interesting but. And I'm right in there shack here. So that's very interesting anyway and you know I can do that hot spot but I don't know how it would be for download files. So yeah, he's gonna help me and get. Give me the same thing I had before which was FDA and that suite ft, DIGI and jsa. He wants me to use FT rig. I don't really care for FT Rig, but we'll see. And yeah, it'll have all that stuff in it and it'll. I'll plug it right into the 5,400 and be on my way if things go right.
Speaker B: Okay, but you still won't have any Internet, right?
Speaker A: Well, you don't need Internet for JS8 or FT8 or FT Digi. You just, you don't get a. A thing that puts you on PSK Reporter and all that. You don't have that, although you can, you can show up there with all those different modes. You can show up there because there's stations out there that are sweeping the band and uploading to PSK Reporter. But yeah, no, you don't need Internet to do any of that.
Speaker B: Well, you do for FP8 and Fldigi. Yeah, JS8, you have your methods, but yeah, I'd be surprised if you can get FLDIGI to work without some sort of Internet for timing.
Speaker A: No, I've tried to show you how to do timing without the Internet and I think I'm gonna have to give up. But yeah, you don't, you don't need Internet to time.
Speaker B: Well, I'll wait and see when you get on FT8 then. Yeah, you do. So not for JS8. I know that you can, you can hit time now or you can even do time by other decodes, right? I know that. I know you use WWV and that's all fine, but you can't transpose that For Fldigi or FT8, best of my knowledge, without using scripts and things like that that some folks use. But I don't know how to do that either. So anyway, yeah, some sort of TPS timing or something has to be employed. But yeah, we'll see, we'll see. When you get, when you get that in and get it running.
Speaker A: Well, you know, I, I don't do FT8, but I was reading about the technology that's being used in the program and what they're doing. You know that automated system that's used by. For JS8 that I won't use because I don't care for it, but because it relies on other stations to time your station. But if you don't have any other way, and you don't have the features that are in JSA that make it possible to time yourself perfectly without with just a signal from WWV, then both JS8 and FT8, you use that automated timing procedure that takes time from other stations and incorporates it into your station. And I was reading about how they did it. It was quite complex on FT8, but you don't have to know how it works. You just do it. And I think MT8 will use it without you asking it to confuse it. I think it's just built in, it just does it all the time. So if you're wondering how people can run FTA without any Internet, I believe that's how it's being done. For timing, anyway. Now with jc, it's much quicker to do do the WWV procedure, which is the first option under the automated one. Use the word now. I think that the important word was the word now in the description, but it's the first, the first option. And yeah, if you do that, then you're good to go. FT8 digi, I mean, I'm sorry, FT digi does not use timing. And I've been on the nets, use the net, you know, the Humboldt county net that uses FT Digi and check in and all that time, all that kind of thing. And the minute I turn it on, it starts decoding immediately. And there's a procedure where you click on this one box and it doesn't matter what mode the guy is using, if he sends out this one particular signal before he starts his transmission, it switches you to that mode. So it's an automated thing that switches the mode for you. It might even work for cw.
Your radio is on the right frequency. This is the home of sac Valley's original 105W6 GRC with a PL tone of 110.9. W6 tcs4. Still. A little fast on the call sign there, four shell. Go ahead. AI six us. Oh, hi. W6kilo charlie sierra. W6KCS, I believe. Yeah. Barely make it into the mountaintop. I'd be surprised not seeing you come up on the Georgetown Voter. You were coming in stronger initially. You must be portable, maybe an HT or something. Might want to find a different location. Yeah, I am. That's pretty handy. The audio delay lets me hear how strong I am coming back in, so I can tell that I'm a little bit stronger right here. Yep, about 90% in right now. So 90% into mountaintop. So you must be on the north side of Forest Hill, not on the south side facing the middle fork. Yeah, I'm. That's probably right. I don't think I can see. Gosh, what's the name of that hill by Georgetown? I was just up there. I don't think I could see. I'm not line of sight to that. I think I'm more line of sight to the north or west toward Auburn. Except that. Except for the trees. But yeah, I think my direct path is probably better than the Georgetown path. Yep, Not a whisper of you over at Georgetown. Yeah, the Georgetown system is at the airport. So, yeah, we're not up on Bald Mountain with the other repeaters, you know, outside of town there. So. Yeah, actually on top of building at the airport. Oh, okay. That sounds good. I think I recognize the tones on here. Is that an arcom controller? Yeah. Note the tones are not coming out of the controller. The tones are coming out of the. Out of the Raspberry PI generating, letting us know where the signal is coming in either the voter system or off of Internet connection. But yeah, we do have an RCom in line. That's what probably won't be in line much longer. But it is in line right now because we used to do multiple radio management through it and now all of that is headed over towards the PI world. Okay, sounds good. The idea sounded more familiar. That's funny. I'm standing in the backyard now. But my main job today is beta testing new firmware for those things. I just got a new update last night and so today is. Today's all arcom day. Okay, very good. Yeah, used to use the arcom. Let me grab this call. Just a moment. Ai6u.s. I'll call him back. Okay. Yeah, very good. Now arcom used to be the heart of our system, but it's, it's such a pain on the backside integrating with the YAESU gear. And we had gone with some YAESU gear because we were in the rest of the C4FM world. Hindsight, probably the 2 meter should have stayed on a different system, but that's where we're at right now. The ADR is. Well, I don't need to describe to you how good that is. Yeah, I haven't done anything with All Star. Our repeaters have All Star links on them, but I don't get involved in that part. I'm more involved in the RF part. I just don't understand the. I don't understand the All Star parts enough to fool with them. I think I met you one time. I met you up at kind of on the way to. Oh gosh, what was it? Robinson Flat. You were doing some HF up there. Anyway, your name's Brian, right? Name here is Brian and. Yeah, you sound familiar. Yeah, we've had a couple people stop by. We sometimes do portable operations. I go up to Canada Hill and do usually the spring VHF or the June VHF contest from up there. And then we usually will do the California Cuso party up there. And then sometimes you might catch us up there for other events, just dry camping or that sort of thing. But yeah, very good. Yeah. Had a couple HAM Radio ops stop by. You wouldn't happen to be the gentleman that his daughter was driving? Yeah, that was me. That was it. Yeah, she's. She's on her own now, driving down to the college every two days. So she. Yeah, that was when she was kind of first learning. I wanted her to, you know, show her what the mountain roads were like before she went up on her own. Very smart. So that, that one and a half lane section right down there between Fort Point and Canada Hill, that will. If she could overcome that one, she's good to drive on her own. Yeah. I'm surprised how stressful it is teaching a kid to drive. I've taught flying just in smaller planes for years, but I've never ever been as stressed doing that as I was teaching my daughter to drive a car. And it's not because she's bad at it, it's just because you got people going past you at 120 miles an hour, five feet away and there's just all kinds of things, pedestrians and you never know what she's going to do. I was really surprised how Tough that was. Yeah, no, I think getting her up on those back roads and kind of developing her confidence around the no guardrails and you know, it keeps you really alert, you know, looking multiple heads, turns ahead to make sure no traffic is headed your way. And I think that's a great confidence builder up there. And yeah, it's probably more of the city driving. You know, if I think back many years, it was the parallel parking that scared the pajeebis out of me when I was going to take my test. Oh, very good, good to do. And do you go by Steve or Steven? Just Steve. Steve. So yeah, they don't make them do that on the test anymore. So I don't know if she could do it. I, I probably should coach her up on that. So anyway, yeah, Brian, nice talking to you. I'm gonna get back out of here. I gotta, I just retired at the end of December, so I am. All my time is repeater stuff now. I got like, like 10 projects in the garage right now and all these ARCOMs, it's. The ARCOMs have, there's like three or four bugs in them that we're trying to, trying to get out of them. And I literally just two hours ago got a, got a firmware update. So I can't wait to try this thing and find out what new bugs are there. Yeah, we've really, you know, I stripped the heck out of it. You know, basically just use it as a single port now. And yes, you were right, the ID is coming off of the, off of the arcom. So yeah, if that's what you or I checking. But yeah, the, the courtesy tones are coming off of the, off the Raspberry PI running ham voip and that's going to be moved over to ASL3 shortly. But yeah, we're moving the whole system completely over to, over to the All Star system and use that as the repeater controller because all of our receivers are running through a voter system now. And so that's where you're getting the delay because currently proof of concept we did all of our voters via public Internet. And the next phase will be to do a point to point IP system for bringing them back into the master system. You know the thing that amazes me about the All Star stuff is how good the audio sounds. You know, we've got a bunch of connections, well a few connections to our Mount Vaca stuff and I really can't tell that they're coming in on that. It's pretty incredible. Anyway, hey Brian, I'll let you Go. I'll get on a little bit more. I really like this repeater. My dad and I were members back in, gosh, back in 1980, I think 81, 82. And I just, I sort of lost track of it because I didn't live in the area. But I'd like to get on, maybe, you know, go to a meeting or two and check it out again. So I'll probably see you again, but I'm going to get back to it now. W6KCF. Well, certainly, yeah, we're meeting now. The club meeting location is at the on the DeWitt property there. Placer County Health and Health and Human Health Services Conference center there right off at DeWitt. And yeah, every second Friday of the month, 7:30pm and, or you can just jump in and be on Zoom. But it's a heck of a lot more fun in person. But yeah, certainly welcome. And if you're so inclined, you know, we do have our club breakfast every. Well, it's this next Saturday. It's the last Saturday of the month. We have club breakfast at Mel's Diner during the wintertime. They're on Highway 49. And then afterwards at 9am we do a fox hunt every month. So we'll be meeting in the parking lot there at Mel's. So if it ever fits into your schedule, you want to drop in for a breakfast or a foxhound or something. We are definitely a social club with a ham radio problem and you're welcome to join us. Steve, good to talk to you again. And yeah, also thank you for stopping by and introducing yourself that day. And yeah, antennas up in the air beside the road tend to catch the attention of bypassing hams, that's for sure. W6KCS, AI6US. Have a great day. Yeah, thanks, Brian. You too. Yeah, I'll be looking you guys up. Yeah, it was a really fun club back then and it sounds like you guys are having a ton of fun now. So it's really grown since I was doing it back then. I think back then it may have been at Jim Carmen's house because the coverage is much better now. It's. I'm surprised how good it is. Anyway, thanks Brian. I will be seeing you soon, I'm sure. W6KCS yeah, that's right. The repeater was over there and then Eric Homa and a couple other people made arrangements for it to be put out of its current location. So the repeater has been in the current location in Auburn for probably since. I was thinking it was sometime in the 80s and so that's where the transmitter is and antenna at about 65 above elevation with no receivers on location. So we were able to kind of get a little bit more power up to the point with, you know, with the no need of a cavity there. And then our voter receiver, we have one at the Georgetown airport, one at Mountaintop, and then another one down in Rockland, south part of Rockland. So, hey, pleasure. Stop by anytime and it'd be great to chat a little bit more with you and maybe, you know, if you don't mind sharing a little bit of repeater knowledge once in a while, you know, it's always a great resource to bring another brain into the trust W6KCS AI6US. Have a great day. Hey, you too, Brian. Yeah, I'd be happy to. If you guys ever need anything. I've got a lot of gosh since this like early on, I've accumulated so much, so many cavities and receivers and even coax and stuff. So if you guys ever need anything, you know, before it comes down to buying it, you know, I've got all kinds of junk that I've saved up. It's not junk, it's really good stuff, but stuff that I saved, you know, hoping someday somebody could use it. Because when I was starting out, it was really hard to get cavities, you know, hard to get hard lined. Everything was really difficult or, you know, cost a fortune. So I've accumulated a lot of that just for my stuff and to help guys out. So if you guys ever need anything, I may have it. And I'm always happy to help with anything. If anybody ever needs repeater help. I, I worked for the states for almost 40 years doing almost exclusively that building like duplexers and things like that for chp. And I really miss it. So anytime anybody needs anything like that, I'm happy to help. So thanks, Brian. Good Talking to you. W6KCS. Better get back to work and look for some software bugs. All right. Yeah, definitely. Pleasure to talk to you again and thank you for that kind offer. Yeah, you know, we, we have a few people that are good feeders for, for equipment needs. You know, AK6 okay. Jeff and. And several others have just been very helpful for us. But you're right, you know, there's always that time you just need a filter and, and you know, especially when we put these boaters in, we had a couple of needs for filters here and there and that's when they get to be rare. So thank you so much. Appreciate it. And Just kind of a heads up. I don't know if you want to do any house cleaning, but there is the Loomis ham fest coming up the end of next month, March 28, down at the historic Loomis train station. So if you want to lighten some of the stuff in your collection. That's a good place. Have a great day. Steve. AI6US. I'll be clear. Oh, sounds like I found a dead spot. You're back. I was just saying. Yeah, I'll probably see you at the swap. Very good. Yeah, we'll be running the coffee break down from down there, so if you see a couple of guys, I'll probably be wandering around doing some man on the street interviews as well. So. Yeah, look forward to it. Maybe. Maybe I can buy you a cup of coffee and a donut or something. You have a great day, Steve. You too, brian. Take it easy. Kilowatt 8 India Tango. Is the net still going on, Brian? Kit? No, Theta wrapped it up right up right after the top of the hour. So we were just kind of doing a little rag chew afterward here. Got a question. Is there anybody on frequency who may have one? The clear node, the nuclear nodes with the Raspberry PI 5 in it. I received one from Jerry yesterday and I am having problems and I'm wondering if somebody is familiar with the brand new one to possibly help me Kit it. Just let it drop there, see if anybody came back. Anybody have a clear node based on the. On the Raspberry PI 5? I do kn6ush so my question is, is it ASL? Yes, it is. Yes, it is. I didn't. Let me make sure I got your.
W e6a x n repeater.
Speaker A: Well, I don't. Yeah, I don't have enough experience in FL digi by any stretch to know, but I would have figured it uses some form of timing, but evidently it doesn't, so that's good. But I know that FT8 is pretty dependent on it, so. And that's a mode that you don't use. But anyway, probably lots of other people do being how I could be on FT8 for about five minutes and already see my propagation, you know, to make a good enough estimation on my. On my antenna, which is pretty good anyway. Yeah, well, looking forward to you getting that going. So I'll check back with you in a few more days and see if you see if you've gotten that in. I don't know, I mean that might go to a coffee shop or something and download what I need off of their WI fi
Speaker B: like over here at
Speaker A: Panera and stuff like that when you go to. Maybe when you go to town, you know, they all offer like a. You know, even Starbucks usually has a guest WI fi. So a lot of the ham radio clubs meet at like a breakfast location or a coffee shop like that. Kind of fun to get involved with them too. But anyway, that sounds interesting. How did you lose the. The other SD card that you had for the 400 did somehow just get corrupted?
Speaker B: Yeah, that was. Oh, that was what I was gonna mention. I found out some information about that. A guy got on and maybe it was a groups I O or something like that where he was discussing all the different modes of saving data that we've used for the, through the, through the years and which ones will fail because of a thing called fade, bit fade where they, they begin to, you know, lose bits and, and stuff. And what he claims is that the hard drives have the least bit fade of all of the data storage devices other than maybe a CD rom, you know, cd, CD rom. My experience with them is if you keep them clean and stuff, they're like a, like a CD audio disc or something like that. It's going to work great forever. But of the, of the story, digital story stuff that we write and read as, as time has progressed it has gotten worse, worse and worse. And the micro SD cards are among the worst of all. So they have a, the worst bit fade. They lose bits and bits and of the data as they, as it goes along. SD, SD ROM, same thing. You know, the digital disks, if you will, that are in our computers now. The otherwise known. I believe it's an SD rock. They're, they're right up There with the bit fade of the Micro SD cards, but not as bad. In other words, there's a generational thing where the generation of the Micro SD which is the latest, is the worst. And then as you go back in time, they get better and better. So. Wow. Very interesting stuff. I mean, if a person were able to write to a CD ROM like we always used to, you would have a hard copy that would never go away. But the problem, the reason I lost it on my Windows machine had nothing to do with that. What it was was Microsoft screwing up. As you know, as you might have heard, the owner of Microsoft is well known for screwing up. Lately he's making big news.
Speaker A: Well, I think he's on the right path now. Now that he's accepted and come forth with some of that information. I think he's still probably leaving out the portion he doesn't want people to believe, you know, being involved with that other guy that hung himself. So anyway, yeah, amongst others that are doing depositions today on that interested to find out some of that information that comes out. But anyway, seems that anyone that was a. Involved with that guy should be kind of ashamed of himself. KN6NGK.
Speaker B: Yeah, definitely. I mean, you'd have to be looking, you'd have to cover your eyes in order to be anywhere around him. From what I'm. From what I understand, you can't play dumb with that guy. Anyway, yeah, as far as you know, apparently that that guy Epstein reached out to people who had money. Whether he reached out to offer them bad things or, or whatever is not the point. He was more interested. The primary that he was interested in was the money and he would use any, as, you know, any way he could to get it. So he was a criminal in more ways than one. And so anyway, yeah, he's a bad guy and a lot of people are going to show up in his files that were not bad people because of the way this guy reached out. Try to input trees as well. I don't know what he was offering them. Maybe opportunities to invest or who knows, I don't know. Anyway, I know I've heard rumors of some of the bad things that happened in Mar? A Lago with, with respect to Epstein and some other people, you know, but who knows? I don't want to go there. It's too complicated. They'll make movies for the rest of our lives about it. Anyway, yeah, regarding FT50, if you look at the screen, when you bring it up, it doesn't matter what mode you're in, if you look at your screen and you look at the top right corner, it says rx. It has these little boxes. One of them says rx, one of them says tx and one of them says something else. I don't know, what if you click on the one that says rx. Then if you get somebody that is an accomplished FT Digi user that sends out these special codes, one of the special code that he's sending out is recognized by your FT Digi and, and switches your mode and speed. Because that's the biggest problem with FT Digi. I remember using it before, I knew that. And it has way too many modes and way too many speeds. So there's no way you can run it without knowing exactly what mode that somebody's transmitting or having. That thing, that RX thing, little box, it's an R, says rx. Upper right hand corner rx. Click that. And if somebody's sending these special codes all of a sudden, you'll pick them up and it'll tell you what. If you know where to look, it'll tell you what. Motor Dare you.
Speaker A: All right, well, I'm going to go ahead and let you go for now. I wanted to respond to you putting out your call. Everything's going okay here. Sun's out, birds. Birds seem pretty happy, so that's good. My birthday is second Saturday, so I'm supposed to be meeting my mom today. South there, maybe Yuba City. But I do have that dental appointment first, so gotta take care of that. So that's where we're at. And yeah, we'll give a chat with you maybe in a, in a couple days or so. I hear you again, I'll say 73 KN 6 MGK.
Speaker B: Okay, real quick, it's up to 60 here. Batteries are already charged up to full voltage and what was the one thing? And yeah, looking forward to getting on these digital modes so we can talk more about what's going on. Don't expect you to ever be interested in FT Digi, but if you were, it's a heck of a lot easier now that I've learned how to do that one little secret trick, you know, makes all the difference in the world. All right, have fun with, with mom and Enjoy your birthday. N6GRG.
Speaker A: 73 can 6 ng.
Speaker A: Name is it km6ush. Is that correct? My name is Neil. Neil. The call is KiloWatt8 India Tango K8. What is your name, sir? Over.
Speaker B: As kilo 11-6- uniform Sarah Hotel. So the other next question is,
Speaker A: do
Speaker B: you have a previous version of Clear Node or the first one?
Speaker A: Okay, KN6USH. KN6USH. Okay, I still missed your name. I'm sorry. But okay, this is my first Clear
Speaker B: note
Speaker A: and I will tell you how far I got. I followed Jerry's instructions. My software is loaded on my iPhone. It is registered and it talks to the hardware. I got that far, it talks to the hardware. Okay, My problem is I am not getting any kind of radio output. In other words, on the, the local radio side, okay, it is not responding, nor is, nor is it making any kind of transmission that I could detect. And I sent an email to Jerry, but he hasn't responded yet. Sort of, kind of getting a little bit, a lot of money invested here. Sort of, kind of getting a little bit. We'd like to get this going and you know, so far his instructions were good, but it's not making, it's not making output. Now I've got, I'm not that familiar with the app. Maybe I'm doing something wrong with the app or something like that. What's your Name there, sir? KN6USH K19.
Speaker B: The name is Mike,
Speaker A: Mike Indo.
Speaker B: And okay,
Speaker A: so in the app, are
Speaker B: you set up on All Stars?
Speaker A: Well, I believe I am. I had, you know, he registered and you know, I'm a current All Star user and you know, he, Jerry pre programmed it. It recognized, you know, it recognized my, my router, my server, you know, it did all that. We put the, the, we put the, the key code in and it did all that. And you know, then it recognized the hardware. And in fact if I go and I, I listen to it, it's telling me, it's telling me about the history. In other words, it's telling me that there was activity on here, you know, and stuff like that. So it's the hardware and the app is receiving information, but it's just a radio, you know, it's just, I'm not getting, you know, in other words, like I'm used to like an All Star node. When like you power it up, it would normally come up and say like IP block, you know, you know, 192.168, you know, kind of thing or something similar to that. And it's not talking at all.
Speaker B: So you're not getting an ID to the Radio from the, from the
Speaker A: Raspberry
Speaker B: PI or the clear node.
Speaker A: Is that correct? That is correct. That is correct. Now I just hang on a minute because I just hear. You could probably hear me. A Siri read notifications one from clear node. There's traffic. 02-26-2006 10:10 esp Sierra Foothills All Star 51,018. That's it. Yeah. See now that just, I don't know if you heard that. That just came from my clerk node but is coming from the Internet side.
Speaker B: So there's a frequency and a PL tone. Do you have those set properly?
Speaker A: Well, I'm here. Here again. He supposedly pre programmed them for me and you know, I've checked my radio and stuff as well. Okay. But I'm not getting anything. So my question to you is how do I check that? I, I, I, somebody told me to go to radio and I forgot how I managed to get there. But I don't know the app well enough to manipulate it.
Speaker B: Well, I can't look right now because I'm driving. But there's the communication between the clear node and your ht, so there's a frequency and a PL tone so they have to match up.
Speaker A: And then if you go to like add content
Speaker B: also, which could be if it's, if it connects, it'll be on, it'll open that up for you automatically. And then if you want to connect to a repeater, all you do is bring that information over and then go and click on it. When it shows you the list, you click on the repeater you want and it should populate and connect. So I'm not sure exactly what it is that is not working for you, but it's for me. I check those things and if they match up, then usually it works.
Speaker A: Yeah, you know, conceptually I understand what you're saying. Your, your statements are consistent with what other people are telling me as well. Unfortunately, nobody knows that particular unit good enough to, to actually help me, you know, and basically steer me, you know, tell me, hit this, hit that, you know, kind of thing to try to troubleshoot this does any. Well, okay, you're driving, so you're not going to be able to do much right now for me. I do appreciate your suggestions though. I'm just wondering if there might be anybody else who maybe might have any more information. Node 51018 disconnected.

I heard somebody in there. But you're super scratchy and six kn. Yeah, I hear a voice in there. But you're not making it. Nope, you're not making it. All I heard was over. You're not making it. Fully depressed for transmission. Yeah, I'm sorry, I heard an M6, but that was about it. You'll need to up your power or grab a different repeater or something. I'll be clear and listening N6KN. Well, I heard him. A little noisy, but I copied you. GSO or something like that. Greg hampton, cso in fred mill. Yes, affirmative. And good afternoon. Yeah, the audio is on the low side, you know, plus add in a little bit of noise and snap, crackle, pop and what have you. So it's not as good as it could be or should be, but I do copy you. Yeah, that guy's kind of far away. He's over in Columbia, so he's got a little bit of half loss on him. No, I don't actually. You know that where the Fresno County Sheriff's department is. 615 First street or not sure if it's First street or Shaw, but that's a big three story building. So that was probably watching a lot of my 60s. Well, I haven't frequented that place in a long time since, you know, I last got locked up down there. So I don't quite remember where it's at, but actually no, I have no idea where it's at. But I'll take your word for it. And yeah, you just want a clear path to the west and anyway you improve things. So you are making it. Fortunately, I've just found another shadow here again. So I hear a lot of static, so I'll try again here in about. Okay, copy that. Mostly. All right, we'll talk to you later. And hello, Ken, how are you? I am fine. I was going to send you a, a message or email or a text or something regarding Superline. Would you and Jeff be interested in doing a Superman familiarization type of thing or you think you guys are good? Oh, you mean like a meet and greet, a dog and pony show, something like that? Well, I think, you know, I've got some familiarity, he's got more familiarity, but I think it's one of those things where we could probably use as much as we can get for sure. So I am, I am up for it. So maybe if you want to just send out a, probably an email, it'll be easiest to us and then we can find a good time to do it or whatever. All Right. Well, just so you know, you. You are blessed with Supermon 8 Plus and nobody on this planet has that except for. K6LNK and Carla. So yeah, I thought we would. Maybe we could meet up and do a. Do something and I could show you some of the cool stuff that Paul is working on with Superman. Eat plus. Sounds pretty nifty. I think maybe we all ought to get together for coffee at the local Starbucks or something. What do you think? I live in Colombia. You think Starbucks has better coffee than I do? Of course not. Why do you think I said that? And I don't even know if you guys got a Starbucks over there. I mean, heck, that's. They claim to purchase most of their coffee from I think. I don't know. But do they actually have those over there? Because that's, you know, Jeff's home. Home away from home. That's ridiculous. No, no Starbucks here. Every. Every breakfast restaurant here that serves coffee is a Starbucks. Just not using the Starbucks name. And probably a much better coffee. If it was going to be called anything, it would be called a Juan Valdez. And there are Juan. Juan Valdez. Facilities. Kind of like a Starbucks, but as you can imagine, a whole lot cheaper. Yeah, I'm probably better. That was a good campaign there. Marketing campaign for quite a while. Good old Juan. I bet he didn't get much money at all. But anyhow, so 8plus, it wouldn't happen to be like 8plus, would it? Or something like that? Nope, it's just eight plus. The, the admin hub and the 750 hub are both eight plus and there is nobody anywhere using eight plus. Oh, wait a minute. The Silent Key W2HR hub out of the Grants Pass, that is also using 8plus. So yeah, there are three of you using 8plus and yeah, it's pretty good. So anyways, maybe we can all meet up and do a pow wow over Superman. All right. Yeah, maybe we can touch base on the DTMF scenario too. I looked at a couple of those things late last night of half asleep. But those were all posts too, you know, by a number. Quite a number of years. So there's got to be. Gotta be something. I mean, jeez. But anyhow, we can always discuss it and see where we're at with it and so on and so forth. But if I need to do more poking around, I think I have one or two more contacts that you could probably hit up if we keep running out of options or whatever. And six candy. Yeah, don't beat yourself up over this. This is just a project that I'm kind of tinkering around with. I'm kind of already a little bit beyond all of that. I think I have all of the. I think I have all of the info I need, including the. Well, I don't know, I could be wrong. It could be something out there that I'm missing. But I do believe that once we have access to the other supermogs at the other sites and certainly access to the upcoming sites, that we can make this thing work properly. So yeah, time will tell. And yeah, but that info is good information. I kind of did look into it. Maybe it looks like I've already. I've already made some cop stuff that, that will work for us. We just need to. We just need access to the other Superman. Okay, well, I think it would definitely be a good thing to talk and just get the three of us on the same page because you know, what we do need to do is be able to do live controlling and command of stuff and not have to rely on pre built or pre saved macros or files that regurgitate stuff. There's just way too many variables out there that we might need to do it on a moment's notice. So knowing that, you know, then maybe we can compare notes and see which, which route you're going and if it'll work or not and so on and so forth. So anyhow, but keep that in the back of your head there. I'm. I'm where I need to be. I need to jump out and pretend to do some work again. So they keep sending these paychecks and I keep cashing them and I'm feeling kind of guilty, so I think, you know. All right, well, when you're all done with that, go home and pretend to be whatever you are at home. Okay? Yeah. And again, keep in mind, I'm just. These are just things I'm playing around with, trying to make things easier with this all star stuff. So hopefully it works out and you and the crew as it may be are happy with it and can utilize it. So yeah, no good. Big deal. Okay, Tom, talk to you later and I will send you an email. I'll. I'll do that later. Later this evening. N6KN. All right, well, that kind of sounds like a threat to me, but we'll let it go with that. All right, have a good one. Talk to you later. And 6m the to somewhere above Castro Valley, California, USA. And 60 RG mobile e bike. Don't know if this is local or link N6GRT. Oh, now I know it's. It's local.

Ko 6 fpj mark in san bruno mobile system 19.
And 7t Andy. Las vegas, I heard you out there. This is ko6sdk 20 miles south of san francisco here, town called millbrae. Well, good afternoon and here's Ralph. Vegas obviously is running between offices. Yeah, beautiful day out here. It's warmed up quite a bit. It's actually 81 degrees so it seems like spring is finally here. I think it's going out there. Yeah. Roger Ralph. Good to hear it's warming up. Yeah, it's warming up over here too. We were cold for a while. I'm on the peninsula here so usually, you know, we. Well all last week were like 50s, 60s. Now we're up till 73 here the car says. Yeah, so it's good that I guess early spring but. Yeah. Oh really foggy this morning too. The whole Bay Area from what I heard on the news there. Over. Yeah, very good. It's been an interesting season, that's for sure. A week or two ago we had a big snowstorm move in, dump feet of snow at our mountaintops. A couple of our repeater sites are not accessible which is unfortunate because we've got to get up there and fix a couple of radios. But this keeps up, maybe another two, three weeks we can get up there and get some stuff fixed. I'm heading down to Yuma tomorrow for the hamvention down there in Yuma, Arizona. Checking the weather forecast. It's going to be in the mid-90s on Saturday so I have to pack my sunscreen and my shorts but I'm looking forward to getting down there and seeing seeing what they got. Got my eye on that new Kenwood analog D star tri bander. I got a 222 meter, 22440 Tri Bander coming out. That's supposed to be the catch. Meow. So I'm not sure if it's actually released yet. I know they've been taking pre orders so maybe I can get my eyeballs on that one. Yeah, Roger Ralph, I heard about that one. The Kenwood was supposed to be the tri bander and digital. That's nice. I even was looking forward to the icom. ICOM supposed to be coming out with a dual band and digital. So that's almost the same time. There's. I've seen pre orders for that also so pretty exciting for sure. I'm still trying to hold off. I know they took February, maybe March so I'm trying to buy a new mobile here for the car and yeah, I'm just like trying not to buy something that's older and and waiting for those to come out. They're over a 06 Fej. Yeah, I've got a. I got an ICOM dstar dual band right here in the truck. I'm not using it right now but that's a 2 meter 440D star analog and I got an IC7100 at the house. That's 80 meters to no, not 26. Yeah, 160 meters. The 440 does Dstar also. But I like the Kenwood. I like the way Kenwood does the audio processing on dstar. I've got a little Kenwood ht. It's got the number of it and the audio quality on dstar is really good. They spend a lot of time on the baseband processing so that's why I'm kind of looking forward to potentially seeing what they got. Maybe take this icon DSTAR I got here in the Jeep and putting it on ebay or amp swapper or something like that. Other than that. Yeah, like I said, looking forward to getting out of here for a little bit. So what do you do back in Cali? What do you do for a living? Yeah, roger on that. Yeah the little Kenwood HT they have is awesome radio too from what I hear that I forget the model number but for sure that's a nice. I always hear good things about it. I'm stay at home dad now retired, 30 years in management retail there Ralph. So how about yourself? Over. Give the link. Submitted to drop M7TND Las Vegas. Yeah I've got the Kenwood. It's a DH74 Alpha. I've got that try it's a tri band HT2 22440 analog Dstar APRs and all that stuff. GPS built into it. It's a nice radio. Love that radio. That's why I say I like audio, the audio process from Kenwood so much. I work for defense contractor. We do work company called JT4. We do work for the Air Force Space Force and a little bit of work for the Navy and I work on the Air Force Air Force Base Force side between here Las Vegas and Colorado Springs link up. That keeps me pretty occupied. Ko6fej. Yeah, roger there Ralph. Nice career there. That's awesome. We'll see what happens. The Middle east, they're probably going to need all that technology we have. Hopefully nothing happens for sure. Yeah man, great time for radios, that's for sure. That Mark 2 that ICOM has too is pretty, pretty cool from what I hear. So trying to hold out for everything. Oh man, I'm telling you, I'm mobile right now. I don't know if I mentioned it on the peninsula here, so hopefully the signal is getting out. Good Ko6fek. Yeah, no, you're fine. We got some popcorn. That's just due to the link, nothing to do with the talkback radio. Just the way some of the links are on the Cali side of the system. But no, you're, you're fine. So that Mark two, is that the, the new DSTAR FM radio that you were talking about earlier? There's two radios, they, they came out with a 73 mark 2, the second version, a newer version there for that HF rig that's been out for a few months I think. And now they're coming out with the 2 meter 440 any day now, I guess. So I'm looking forward to that. And then the Kenwood of course. So yeah, man, there's a lot going on for sure. They make those. Was it a linkos? I don't know if I'm saying it right, but there's a lot of radios coming out with nasty west and leave. So yeah, it's a good time right now for sure. Yeah. HAM radio operator and my daughter's talking back there. Yeah, I heard her. Yeah, the mark. I know you're talking about another 300. I've got the, I got the 7610 ICOM. I love that radio. I had a full SDR unit. That's a beautiful, beautiful box. Pretty much does everything I throw at it. Oh, I like using the digital. I do some FTA every now and again, mainly sideband. But I like the fta, it just plugs directly into the computer. You don't have to have any kind of a converter, just USB right into the thing. Does audio and all the CAT controls and everything. But I like the ICOM HF side. On the uhf, vhf, I use mainly Motorola Commercial, which is what I'm using right now. But on the HF side I definitely like the icom. A matter of preference. I'm just used to the gui, I guess. Okay, the 6th FeJ. Yeah. Ralph H HF. I run a Yaesu 710 on HF and I've had good luck with that. Yeah, the icon's definitely top of the list. Also I'm okay with HF right now. So I'm just trying to pull the trigger on the, on the radio in the car here. But I got a couple of handhelds. I just got a anytone168 for the, for the HP for DMR and I'm loving that that's a good little starter cheap radio like 140 bucks running it to a little mobile antenna right now. So I got on DMR with a friend here and I like DMR. Before that I got on DStar and DStar was pretty cool too. Not many repeaters where I live but DMR has a lot more. But either way, I don't know. Have you tried those? Yeah, both actually. We've got a DMR stack on one of our mountain tops that I maintain. Not DMR dstar stack on one of the mountaintops that I maintain. We got a. We got a high band, got a high band node, we got a UHF, we got a 1.2 gig data, 1.2 gig voice and I like about Dstar is it's more ham friendly I'll use that term I guess right where you can just put a call sign in and it finds you does call sign routing and stuff like that. So I use that. Yeah we've also got DMR on our network we got, we got a DStar, a DMR mixing them up I'm sorry DMR talk group that we bring into the to our nets on Wednesday we run a system wide net we disconnect from Carlos. We don't tie up the entire system so we just have our Nevada network up and we do that mode. But yeah, I've got. Matter of fact the radio I'm talking on right now is a kenwood or Motorola 5550 which is UHF analog and DMR radio and so I've got those modes too played around a little bit with YAESU system Fusion but you know there's so many doggone modes now I'm using a Shark RF that does transcoding so I can go between different modes just pick up a DMR radio talking to dstar or talking to Fusion and vice versa and there's a program I use also on my phone called TV Switch which will let you use your phone to connect to not only All Star but all those digital remotes also. So that's kind of cool. Fix Fej yeah hear great things about the open spot 4. A couple of my friends have them and they playing with them. I know they got them on dstar, they're still trying to get it on DMR last time I heard. I hear that's the way to go but I don't know. I like my radios so far so this anytone is trying out DMR and yeah the dstar is definitely more user friendly I would think I figured that on my own the DMR I expected I watched I watched a few videos and I said no way I need some real help so a friend of mine that helped me out with that but I I'm. I actually have an Apple too so you have to get a Windows machine you probably know to to EMR so yeah I did get a new machine there a new computer and I'm gonna try and program it just hope I don't brick the any dark if I do so. Yeah a couple of my friends have any tones and they. They like them I've never used them back in the day I used a high Terra for a while not just using Motorola's but yeah I'm an Apple guy myself so I know what you're talking about you either have to run parallels to emulate Windows or do boot camp if you run the old intel chip versus the silhouette Apple silicone But yeah you need to unfortunately run Windows to do the programming on the DMR Radius but you know you get a Windows PC for damn cheap anymore I got a. I got a refurbished Dell it's kind of like a Dell version of a Surface so it's kind of like a tablet but it has the magnetic keyboard that snaps in place works really well and I got the damn thing from Dell direct that a refurb for like $320 or something like that with the keyboard Windows 11 blah blah blah and I use that to run some of my Nano VNA software stuff I use on the hilltops to work on radios all the programming software for my Motorola radios and things of that nature I just have it on that thing so that worked out really well for. Yeah Roger on that those Motorolas too that's my friend that programmed the Genicone is definitely into Motorolas swears by them they look like they're well built for sure and I think they're used in the professional areas also fire stuff like that I believe so yeah it's good for them I guess it's good for us yeah that's DMR I think is the way to go where I live for sure but yeah hopefully these star YAESU fusion dude there's that I was a YA fan but I heard that there's not a lot of repeaters in the San Francisco Bay here so why I put a dmr let's see sooner or later I'll probably Try that too. There's so many different options out there for digital A06 SJ. Yeah, definitely. That's why I just decided to use the open spots and the software, you know, the windows. Although, I'm sorry, the DV switched offering stuff like that to go with all the different modes. You can go broke buying radios, right? Which one do you grab to talk on? To talk to who? So that's why some of this transcoding stuff's cool. Yeah. And Motorola doesn't make ham gear. They make just strictly commercial, which is what I'm using. But yeah, they're great radios. They're exceptionally tight front end, so you have intermodulation products and distortion and great audio processing, blah, blah, blah. But you definitely pay for it. You know, you're not going to get a. You're going to pay $800 or more for a good quality Motorola commercial radio, either a mobile or an ht. But saw what you're after. All right, well, I'm going to let you go and tie the system up any longer. Nice to make your acquaintance. I'm just getting ready to pull into my office here. So few things. Got to get a few things done before I can get out of here for the week and make it down to Yuma. So nice chatting with you. Have a good rest of your day out there in San Fran. M7TNB, Las Vegas. I'll be clearing yours. Yeah, roger that, Ralph. Nice to meet you too, my friend. Yeah, have fun. Stay safe out there. Ko6fej. I'll be listening. Thank you. Bye.
