Speaker B: I just talked to a couple of my Fresno buddies on the ham radio net here a little while ago. So we got my son's truck back together and just paid the bill. Ouch. Oh, boy.
Speaker A: Where'd you go?
Speaker B: One of the guys he had the Bible study with on Wednesday night suggested this guy, he does mentoring for new Christians as well. Just a great personality. And as soon as I started talking to him, within the first two minutes, I go like, yeah, this guy feels confident and I think he'll do good on that. So he said they could do the head gaskets so we didn't have to buy a whole new engine. That's what everybody else was recommending.
Speaker A: Well, that's great news. Glad to hear that. Possibly at least a quarter of what the price they quoted you before.
Speaker B: $9800. The other guy was promoting us 1918 to 1950 for a new engine.
Speaker A: Oh my goodness. Wow.
Speaker B: I can't fathom that.
Speaker A: But that's a big truck, so I guess that sounds about right.
Speaker B: You can change the tune on the engine and go from just basically bone stock to almost race car. And I think that's what pretty much screwed it up.
Speaker A: Well, I guess your son's going to be boarding lightfoot on the. On the pedal, right?
Speaker B: Roger that. We've talked to him about that. We just say, you know, this is the last bit we can do for you. We actually bid into our. You're going to go to England on this money. I don't think that's going to happen unless I've got some kind of a miracle that happens.
Speaker A: K i6b wj. Yep, roger that. Well, I just was over at my sister's house in Roseville and she's having me. I changed out from like sisters and there's one in their laundry room that's a transformer. So I just ordered that on Amazon.
Speaker B: We have an Amazon up here in a warehouse in Fresno. Cloven Avenue on 180.
Speaker A: Wow. Yeah, I know. It's Amazon's all over now. I'm sure you've seen the one over there in Hollister.
Speaker B: Got one in Hollister? No, we actually have one in Fresnel at Clovis avenue and Highway 198.
Speaker A: I wasn't aware of that one, but I did see the last several times I went over to Hollister to the station there and as you see, can come over 25 Highway 25 and come down that hill there. Huge acres and acres of Amazon.
Speaker B: I think of 25. I think of San Benito Mountain. It has snow on it, Alex. I got to see the video feed for it, and there were ice crystals sticking out on it, like about two inches.
Speaker A: Wow, that's amazing. When was the last time you were up there?
Speaker B: Week of December. I'm overdue to go up there, but I am letting it dry out before I go.
Speaker A: I don't blame you. Hey, I wanted to let you know I have a real good friend of mine, the engineer Prince from the ministry. He worked 18 years and then retired two years. And he can't do a whole lot. He's got some challenges, but what he can do is talk on the radio. And tomorrow morning he sent it down to Visalia where he can stay with some family members. And I just programmed his HD with frequencies on this system and also on Bonito and the current system.
Speaker B: I need to get my HP and put it in there. I just got a new battery for it. One of our guys went up to the Bay Area to the ham radio supply shop, and he picked one up for me. So I'm swapping them around, keeping one ready to go all the time.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's. It's good. He has an at and he's driving down. He can't drive anymore, but he can't do ham radio. I just took him out. We met for a ratified pick him up. He's natural drive. And we went to breakfast just two days ago at the Cracker Barrel. Anyway, I said, well, let me program your agency with us to use three swims of these, and there's some guys that you can talk to down in that area.
Speaker B: Okay, can you text the name of his contact information to me on the. You know, just do a text message to me on that. Hey, I'm CSO Ki6ewj. Affirmative.
Speaker A: Will do, greg. When I get to my destination here, I'll send that over information to you. The call sign is k7tdx. That would be paul bravo x ray.
Speaker B: I will. I will wait to get the text message. I'm actually driving right now. I'm at Herndon and Willow, and it's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 cars wide at this intersection. So I'm really trying to stay focused. Dancing, just. All right, Greg.
Speaker A: And I appreciate that. Yeah. If you hear a call out from him from his call sign, he should primarily be on the. This, this repeater here, the Carlo system, but over to the Kern system, which from where you're at would be the 3600. All right, I'll let you go. And it'll be all hands on the wheel there for you, 73. For now. Ji fix picture whiskey Juliet in Rockland, California.

Speaker A: Roger
Speaker B: that. I just want to let you know all tensions that empty as soon as I get home. A7cdx. He lives in Loomis and anyway, I'm going to have him try try it out this afternoon when he gets home, but got a program for a couple of ring to and Anyway, what's your 20? You're really scratchy right now, so I'm in a real bad interference area, so I'll have to check back with you later. Roger that. I'll be monitoring for another five or 10 minutes here in the car and then back at the house I'll be full quieting. And all of a sudden it cleared up pretty. Affirmative. Yeah, I just got my little HT with the mag mount on the Rice car. So it, I mean it usually does pretty good around town. There's a few spots where I'm not in high sight for the repeater there. Now, like I said, at least you're not having to mess with the cell phone. And it is getting out. So it's our good emergency ability to get out and help people out just like we
Speaker A: did up on San Benito Mountain. Ah, primitive. Yeah, good old time.
Speaker B: Yeah. The next, the next time you head up there, let me know. And if I'm not working, I'll see if I can hit that repeater. Alan, somebody else is trying to get in there, so I'm gonna back off. Have a good one. Sorry if I was stepping on you. I had my volume down. Sorry about that. Good. So go ahead and take the air. We're done with our conversation anyway. Have a good afternoon. We would like to pick

Speaker A: That's what I was hoping you would say. All right, well, hey, I'll see you soon. So I will go ahead and be clear on your final K6 KDs. Clear.

Yes, sir. I don't know if you've got a low power on that. That radio. See if you see. See if that's on low power or high power. Put it on high power if it's not on. All right. What is that? I can't really see and drive. I'm in. In between the king rails. Don't worry about it. Don't worry about it. All right. Just take it easy and let me know when you get home. All right? It says 2 hours and 34. Okay. All right, we're great. All right. Chat with you later. I've got the next edge on. It'll start getting better. Talk to you later. Wa6 yre la habra. Almost to Baker. Speaker B: Right on, Right on. That's a. That's gonna be a heck of a. Heck of an accomplishment there. A little less than a month. That's coming up quick.
Speaker A: I was gonna say that's only four weeks.
Speaker B: One day I'll get there if the retirement's still there. That's why I do like the county. I mean, we got callpers, so I think that's one of the biggest public official retirement Systems. I'm not 100% sure. There's probably other options, but.
Speaker A: Yes, yes, yes. And I went down to Calper today and I submitted my application for my pension.
Speaker B: You say you had to go down there to their office or you went on their website?
Speaker A: Well, I could have gone on the website. I went down there just so that if, you know, something came up that I wasn't sure about, I could. I've had somebody there to talk to directly.
Speaker B: Yeah. From what it sounds like, there's not much known about that process until you get there. So, I mean, you're having to learn this as you go and definitely don't want any mistakes. And I'm sure you have copies of everything that you need, but it's getting that all piled together.
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. And you know what? I took four days or four hours of floating holiday today to do that, so I didn't have to go to work till one.
Speaker B: That's nice. Where did you have to go to calpers. Is that in Sacramento or.
Speaker A: Yes, it's right off of Q Street. Right as you get off the freeway. It's like just past 3rd Street. You know where that is?
Speaker B: Vaguely. I don't do much driving in Sacramento anymore now that I don't drive service trucks. So. I was down there the other day. I think I talked to you on the radio for a little bit coming back from one of mom's appointments over there at UT David. And traffic over there was a nightmare.
Speaker A: Yeah. Is that that off of 16th Street? I don't remember.
Speaker B: This one was off of J Street by about. It was on J Street quite a few miles, and then one left turn, one right turn, and then you're there. It was a pretty big complex. I get the. To be an old cantery of some sort.
Speaker A: Of course it did. Yeah. I don't think I know where that is. I was trying to think if there's there's the one. I think it's UC Davis Med center, where you're going down 50 and you're getting close to near 60. Davis. And it's off on the right hand side there.
Speaker B: W E6A X N receiver. That's the one. As it sounds very familiar, but anyway, I am detonating. Hey, gas is 449 here in Williams.

Speaker A: Cb9myf.ko6 git standby, please. Okay, I had a problem with dogs barking. K06 Git radio report please.
Speaker B: You have nice loud audio, but not too loud, but it sounds good. And your full quieting into the repeater.
Speaker A: Thank you very much. I have a problem getting into the Nevada county ones in the morning. I have to switch back and forth between the 147285 and the 147015. I'm on the skywarn net every morning and I have to always check.
Speaker B: Oh, okay. Where. Where are you located?
Speaker A: I am in Brownsville.
Speaker B: Where is the 285?
Speaker A: The 285 is actually has. It's a split repeater. And so I don't know exactly the locations. They think it's on banner pieces up in Nevada City, but it's split. So I come in on one frequency and I hear back on another one. And sometimes that transmit M1 has noise on it. The L15 is also up in that same general area and in Nevada County. But it's a send and repeat individually from that repeater.
Speaker B: Stand by second. Let me look and see which repeaters that is.
Speaker A: Where are you located? Station, where are you located?
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, there's another one that you can get in that you can get into that with the link system, but I forget which one it is and propagation's not very good tonight, so I can't. I'm not able to figure it out.
Speaker A: Well, our club's two repeaters are 147.285-147-0.015, both with a positive. I'm sorry, they think it's a negative offset of 151.4.
Speaker B: I did catch your location that linked with the 14529.
Speaker A: Where is that located?
Speaker B: I'm not sure. Oh, wait a minute. That's. That's. That's linked up with the 147700 or something like that. So that's not the right one. Yeah, but is that down at the valley floor? I have no idea. I know that I can. When things are normal. I can. I can normally hit that one and I can hit the 285.
Speaker A: So I can hit obviously Sutter Butte. I can get the gears east and gears west. I can get the two repeaters in Graft Valley. I can also because I. I Have a tri band on 220. I can hit another repeater up in Grass Valley.
Speaker B: Okay. I can't get anything on 220 from here.
Speaker A: Really? You should be able to get them out here.
Speaker B: Where, Where?
Speaker A: You haven't told me yet where you located.
Speaker B: I'm in Orland, but I only have a. A handheld that does 2 220. And on 220 it only puts out 7 watts.
Speaker A: But maybe that's part of the problem. I don't know what exactly my watts are coming out, but I think they're lower on 220. But I can easily hit even my handheld getting up to Grass valley on the DO20 repeater.
Speaker B: Yeah, and I can hit several 70 centimeter repeaters with the handheld, whether I plugged it into the main antenna or not. I got a tri band antenna. But the only tri band radio I have is several handhelds that are tri band. The radio that I'm talking about now is 2 meters only.
Speaker A: Yeah, the radio I'm talking to on is a 25 watt. It'll do 2 meter 70 centimeter and 1.25.
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, I can put up 75 watts on 2 meters.
Speaker A: I don't have that much power, guy. I. On my own HF, I can put out 100 watts, but I don't even really ever have to use that very often. I have a FT710 for that. So I don't. I have to switch back and forth between antennas and radios if I'm going to be moving around a little bit.
Speaker B: Yeah, no, I mean, yeah, my HF, I only have 20 watts on HF, but it does the job.
Speaker A: Which is the reason why I don't crank mine up to 100. Because. Why,
Speaker B: why do you need to? Especially since I'm doing it with a multi band vertical in 20 watts and people can hear me just fine.
Speaker A: Yeah, I have a tri band antenna on my roof that I use and that's just for like this local traffic. But when I'm on HF, I do most of my work at 20 watts.
Speaker B: The antenna has more effect than the actual power output.
Speaker A: Yeah, even when I've cranked it down to 5 watts, I've still been able to with HF reach South America here.
Speaker B: Oh yeah. When I used to talk on the CB I could talk in Australia I'm 10 watts on sideband and people said that I got out better than people they knew were running 5,000 watts. My 10 watts, I could just talk right over all of it.
Speaker A: Yeah, I have an old CB Guy. I never went to SSB for TV because it was just a little out of my price range. And I didn't lie, it works well enough for me. But I still like cb. They, they've trashed the, the channel and the, the service and it's just bunch of noise and garbage now.
Speaker B: Oh, it's been like that for years, many years.
Speaker A: Don't I know it. Well, it's sad. I mean these guys would get on with their echo mics and their amplified signals at 100 or plus watts and they could just dominate the, the band.
Speaker B: That's funny. They get all this power and yet when I would get on sideband my 10 watts and a power mic, I would just dominate the channel, which is 10 watts. People would tell me all the time I'm the only one they can hear when I'm talking and they could tell that there were people out there running 5,000, even 10,000 watts and yet they'd still hear me right over them.
Speaker A: I don't live in no one talking about that high a lot of, but I've heard several people being up in the thousand watt range and it's just ridiculous. You don't need to go out there and have your power mic and your echo mic and you're just going to stomp on everyone else around you.
Speaker B: You don't need all that power. It's good to have good audio on the side bend but you don't need all that power.
Speaker A: I wasn't trying to do long distance communication on CB. I mean if I communicated 25 miles I felt I was doing pretty well.
Speaker B: Yeah, back in the day we had a CB radio club called Non Automotive Radio Club and we had our radio mounted on our bicycles and I could get out from my bike locally. I could get out 25 miles new from problem
Speaker A: Jeremiah. It's in the same league. I put a CV radio on my first motorcycle when I was 17.
Speaker B: Oh, I had, I had one on a motorcycle before too. I had one on a motor scooter that I had a Yamaha rev. I had 102 inch whip on the back of it.
Speaker A: I don't have anything that big. I had a luggage rack on the back of my bike. I rigged up the CB and also AM FM cassette radio between the handlebars and ran the antenna back to my luggage rack on the back end. And this was a Honda CVX250.
Speaker B: Yeah, one that got out the best that I set up was a 50cc scooter and I had a, I wired up a helmet with a Pair of speakers and a microphone and a full face helmet. And then under the seat I put a DIN plug so I could just plug it in and it worked very well.
Speaker A: I did something very, very similar to that.
Speaker B: Yep, yep, that's the way to do it. That way you can unplug the Helmut and. Yeah, but it's too bad the CB went to hell.
Speaker A: I actually still have my mag mount CB antenna and my three radios.
Speaker B: I don't have any mobile antennas. I have several sideband radios and I have one radio. The rest all outside bend.
Speaker A: Well, I have a COBRA. I think two Cobras and a realistic good old Radio Shack CB radio.
Speaker B: Yeah, I have an old road talker, 40 Sears rude talker. It's in perfect. And then I have a Uniden. There's another radio. I don't even remember what it is. I haven't seen it in so long. It's in storage. And I have a little unit in 510XL that's just am only. But back in the day I. I tuned up a radio and people said it sounded like a. It sounded clear, like a broadcast station.
Speaker A: Well, I actually have here in my shack a one of the CBs. I have one of the Cobras set up here. I don't turn it on very often, but it goes out to a man on my roof and I just have it if I want to look at CDs every now and then.
Speaker B: Yeah, you never know what you might find. Maybe one of your friends might get a seed interested and you can get them interested in him.
Speaker A: Actually most of my friends are into frs gmrs.
Speaker B: I heard that there for GMRS they're going to add some frequencies or some channels around 45, 46 megahertz.
Speaker A: Yeah, I have a Wilson handheld. It's. I forget what model number I had a. A while now, but I forget but it's. I bought it in pink, just kind of being weird. But I use it out when I go fishing or hunting because I can stick it in my backpack. I can wear my Bluetooth headset with on Vox and I can talk to people, my buddies, without having to take my hands free.
Speaker B: Oh, that's cool. Yeah, I think they should make it because if you have a ham radio license that it will work on GMRs. But if you want both, you gotta get two call signs that can get confusing. But. This, they should set it up so that if you have a ham radio license that's good for GMRS also.
Speaker A: Well, I have my GMRS license and I'm a ham General, right now I'm studying for my extra.
Speaker B: Yeah, I've heard you mention that before.
Speaker A: I'd like to have my extra before field day.
Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, that'd be nice. I don't know if I'm even gonna be in the US on field day or not. This summer I'm planning on taking a trip to Ecuador because it's just too hot here and I just got to the point where I can't tolerate it anymore. So I'm out of here during the summertime from now on.
Speaker A: The same way with heat. I Like you said, I lived in Brownsville, which is 2850 elevation, so it never gets super hot here. And we do our field day. At least. I think we're gonna do it again this year up at the Nevada county area airport.
Speaker B: Yeah, I used to live in Battle Mountain, Nevada at 4,000ft and it was kind of too hot there too. Where I'm going in Ecuador is at 8,000ft, so it's normally around 70 degrees year round.
Speaker A: Yeah. Are you going to try getting over to the Galapagos? Because that's actually technically an Ecuador.
Speaker B: Eventually. I plan on going over to the Galapagos Island. Yes. But I'm thinking about moving to Ecuador and I've always wanted to go to the Galapagos Islands since I was in second or third grade.
Speaker A: I have only been a couple times out of the country, and Mexico and Canada are my only options out.
Speaker B: I've been to Canada twice, but I haven't been to Mexico. I've been within a mile of Mexico when I was a kid. But then a tropical storm hit the San Diego area, so we decided not to walk across the border on that trip. But I did go to the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Wild Animal park. And that was when I was a kid at San Diego Wild Animal park in the bird enclosure. Still hanging out there by the entrance like he did when I was a kid. They live a long time. A friend of mine just went about a year and a half ago and he mentioned the Toucan.
Speaker A: And I said, oh yeah, I remember him. He was very friendly. And he said, yeah, he's a very friendly toucan. Extremely friendly.
Speaker B: Oh, now you're really getting into my home plate. I lived, I grew up about a mile and a half or so from
Speaker A: the Wild Animal Park.
Speaker B: I had a seasonal past for years when I was in college I used to go out there and you know how you, when you first came in the park they had you walk through the AV area but then they changed that and so the aviary was off to the side and so the main pathway was going through the park, through either side of it on the left hand side. And so not many people walked into the Aviary Park. I used to go in there with my textbook and read and study in virtually ultimate privacy. And the birds would fly down and see what I was doing and it was a wonderful time. W E6A X N receiver did you
Speaker A: ever meet that friendly toucan?
Speaker B: KB9MYF KO6GIT no, I don't recall meeting a toucan. I There was other little songbirds flying around, floating, that would sit, come down to me because I was sitting there still and would come down and sit on the bench with me. I don't know what they were, they were just very pretty. And I would just sit there and read for a couple hours every afternoon because I had a seasonal pass. Like I said, it was about a mile and a half mile quarter from my house and I was attending junior college at Palomar. Did you grow up in Escondido or the area?
Speaker A: No, I grew up in the San Jose area.
Speaker B: Well, what brought you down to San Diego to go to the White Island Park?
Speaker A: We went when I was a kid?
Speaker B: Well, the Wild Animal park was always one of my favorite places. So was the zoo with a seasonal path when I had, I was an independent contractor and I had to work down in San Diego proper for lunch. Oftentimes I would go into the zoo, take the little bucket things across all the way over to where the polar bears are and just sit over there and eat my lunch.
Speaker A: I don't think they had the polar bears there when, when I was a kid they had, I think they had some black bears though, and I think they had, I think they had gorillas too.
Speaker B: Both the Wyoming Animal park and the zoo have gorillas and there's a whole place in the zoo that's called Bear Canyon. But the polar bears are not there. They're over in a separate area for arctic animals.
Speaker A: Oh yeah, yeah, I'm sure They don't like it warm
Speaker B: with the polar bear area. They also have like yaks and just other things you're going to find in cold climates.
Speaker A: This is indoors.
Speaker B: Well, it's not totally indoors over the polar bears. I don't know about the seals and the yaks and stuff. They're semi enclosed so they are trying to be, you know, something they have. But they have musk ox, they have yaks. They have the seal, the window seal. They got the bears.
Speaker A: Yeah, the animal I remember the most of that toucan and.
Speaker B: You dropped at the end there.
Speaker A: Yeah, the one I remember the most is that. He was.
Speaker B: I am getting a lot of buzz from your station.
Speaker C: Now. You're clear.
Speaker A: Hold on, I'm gonna turn up more power. Somebody's actually doing that.
Speaker B: Anyway. Yeah, I. I lived like I said about a mile and a half from the animal park and I had a seasonal pass. So that was where I did my reading and study for my homework for college. At Cadill area. I still have a niece and a nephew, my brother and this appointments, children all living down there. I'm sorry, I think I covered you. Was that another station?
Speaker C: KILO OSCAR 6 Bravo, Gulf Yankee. I just got to the radio monitoring briefly. Hopefully things are going good in your guys area. Sorry to interrupt. Kilo Oscar Six Bravo Golf Yankee.
Speaker B: Bravo Golf Yankee. You're always welcome.
Speaker C: Thank you. It's good to hear that the 085 machine is working great. Thanks to Dave WD6AXM for the awesome machine. Sorry to interrupt. I know you guys don't say I'm interrupting but. Sorry, my phone's interrupting me. Anyway, I'll go ahead and clear. We'll talk to you guys soon. Seven three, KO six bgy.
Speaker A: Oh, you're not interrupting. You're just joining in and you're welcome to join in.
Speaker C: All right. Yeah, I know the names escape me. Memory issues at 38, but it's good hearing you guys out there. We had a wonderful day here in Calusa, weather wise. Mostly clear skies and no rain. We'll pass back to you guys and I'll see if I have anything to interject. Ko6BGY.
Speaker B: Well, BGY, this is Ko6G I T Ken and I'm in Brownsville. Not Browns Valley, but Brownsville. People's always could get confused. But I'm about ready to be wrapping this up too. I was just checking because I had to. I've had to do some system changing here because of the power outages for the snow last week and I'm just trying to reassess if everything's going fine. So BQI, I will admit you to do at 73 and I don't know the call of the other station I was talking to, but I will also be clear with you. 73. Ko6git. Ko6git.
Speaker C: Sorry for the other station that was probably trying to chime in. Great hearing you out there. I'm inside on 18, so I'm not probably getting through too well, but I'll go ahead and clear as well. Ko6bgy,
Speaker A: see what's on TV. So I'll talk to you guys later. KB9MYF.
Speaker C: Good evening. Yeah, I think we had a double there. It is what it is. Anyway, gentlemen, have a great evening. Great hearing you guys out there. And hopefully this week I'll do more to get back on the air and more active. Kilo, Oscar 6, Bravo, Golf, Yankees.

Speaker A: Oh yeah, I better key up out here before people start going elsewhere. It's a travel morning. N6 NTM 55 degrees in Magalia. Good
Speaker B: morning.
Speaker A: I don't know if I'm gonna go down there today, finish the second bay, bay two. And we don't have a lot of stuff to put in that third one. It's almost as big as the second one but he doesn't need all the bench plugs all the way around. And three 220 outlets. Yeah. One of these days you'll make it over to John, see with that spider Webber, see what we're. We got about 120ft of wire left over of 500 foot number 10 solid three wire. So yeah, we. It looks like. It looks like a spider took
Speaker B: some LSD in there. Yeah, I may, I may show
Speaker A: up for that one then I'll decide if I'm going down to John's. I told him yesterday I didn't have any plans today so if he went and picked up the conduit. Yeah that the, the third bay of the three shop deal right there. He's got a drip here and a drip there. So we want to definitely do conduit out there. It's all cement though.
It is that time of year.
Well, I like that guy Ron that's on the radio right now. We almost met him. We almost met him last year up there at Graffiti Weekend. He's always had hot rods all his life, badass ones.
Did you watch the State of the Union, Jay? Phenomenal. Phenomenal. Me and Laurie watched it from beginning to end last night. And it was everything Olan could do to hold back the tears, blink in her eyes, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink. And you could, you could tell by the position of her mouth and everything that she was holding back tears. Trump put her in her place, let me tell you, in front of the whole place, told all them that them Democrats wouldn't stand up for anything. But about halfway through, and right from the beginning, one Democrat lady wearing a red dress probably weighed 300 pounds, she was standing up and clapping for Trump. And pretty soon there was three or four Democrats standing up, and then about half of them standing up. And before they got to the end, they were 90% standing up. And you could actually see the state of Trump hatred. At least five Democrats went to sleep in their seat. That's got to be embarrassing. And they just left the camera on them, sometimes 30 seconds while Trump was speaking, they would show the different Democrats that were fast asleep, just like Joe Biden.
How about the gold medal winners, the hockey team? They had all them come down. There was a guy that was 100 years old yesterday on the 250th year of the United States. Okay, happy birthday. He was 100 years old. They gave him the Medal of Honor. That guy hasn't smiled like he was smiling last night. He was standing up. He had to. He had to stay seated a couple of times, but he mustered it. Yep. Hundred years old, fully decorated. You wouldn't believe how much stuff's hanging on that guy now. The Medal of Honor, the highest medal military that you could achieve. Gave it to another guy too. I don't know how you could get by without not watching that. I did miss it when it was happening because I've never been real interested in it. So it's like an hour and 42 minutes or something like that. But it's good all the way through. Unbelievable.
Speaker A: Las vegas. Good morning, Ralph. You're using some kind of a void. What's going on down there? And happy Friday to those who are not retired.
Speaker B: For the swap meet.
Speaker A: Oh, boy, must be that time of day again. Sounds like I'm having packing loss again. All iconic was swap meat. That's right. You're doing that today, right? Today. And tomorrow.
Speaker B: I'll rattle your cave. Ten. Good morning. And R17.
Speaker A: Good morning to you. So was it me or was it Ralph?
Speaker B: It was Ralph. Yeah, Ralph was definitely out. Probably in a bad area or something like that. Did you say he's on the way down with swap? Maybe going down the unit or something?
Speaker A: Yeah, I believe that's happening today. Maybe tomorrow for him.
Speaker B: Yeah, he invited me last year and this year he always invites me. I'd love to go down sometime, but. Yeah, but anyway, hey, if you're cues go with him. Maybe he'll. He'll reappear here. He's going down. I don't know how far along he is. Maybe it was in a dead zone down there on Arizona 89 or whatever that area is about 90 degrees down there south of Golden Valley. Anyway, good morning and I'll back out.
Speaker A: All right, John, well, thanks for jumping in there. I just finished my breakfast, so I'm gonna go in there and clean up the kitchen before the wife jumps up and does it. All right, I'll. I'll be listening, but from the other room. Excuse me. N6 knee down here in Chinatown. Columbia.
Who else is coming to breakfast? Don. Oh, that's steve. Yeah, he knows. I'm just kidding. I'm all right on.
Okay. So if I could put it up, I can get it down, so. Yeah, well, today I may go down to John's just for a little while, but by time you get done with the fellas. Yeah. And if get yourself a little nap and. And get a hold of me, remind me and bitterly bop over there and see what we got to do.
Los Angeles link up.
Speaker A: Okay, good. Good idea. Yeah. Cameras don't seem to like that sun pointing at them. E. Yeah,
Speaker B: Infogreen works during the day sometimes, too. Yeah, I want to see that. The camera and the picture. Yeah.
Speaker A: So it is today. How long till we change the clocks?
Speaker B: He doesn't care if you want. See, you know how easy that guy is. If I had to deal with him daily. What? If you want something out of him, you have to present it to him. The exact opposite. Because he goes the other way no matter what, 95% of the time.
Speaker A: Another. He's just another one
Speaker B: of them Democrats that you almost have to pray for. I know he's not a dummy, but, man, he has perfected the art of being
Speaker A: stupid. Yeah, it only took you about a second and a half
Speaker B: to come up with the appropriate response.
Yeah, it's kind of a bummer. The term of the turn, not term of event, has slowly persuaded my way of looking at it because I haven't met a single Democrat that could, you know, adequately. Take or present their way of thinking adequately. You know, no good reasons at all. Of course, I've only had that chance maybe five times in the last several years. When I get one on the spot, they usually don't, they usually don't have a good reason for the way they think. So yeah, some poor choices. I feel sorry for him like I was telling them there the other guys this morning, I feel sorry for him more now lately than, than the what if stupider or my dislike for him. Yeah, I'm feeling more and more sorry for him during their walk in life right here, right now. They, they, they just not there yet. They need some more time.
Speaker A: Well keep in mind the rhetoric that comes from the Democrats if you're a Republican it's just like being African American back in the 20s and 30s, you know you don't even want those people on your back. BACKBITERS so I I could understand to a certain extent why some Republican politicians are it appears more often than not that they're they don't have anything to offer but look at the opposition they've been dealing with for the last seven years or maybe as long as 10 years because we don't know.
Speaker B: JAY. Well we got
Speaker A: lots of good people. If you watch that State of the Union you are going to be impressed you are going to be impressed with how just how authentic and mind blowing this country the people that we have are. So mind blowing gave me
Speaker B: a lot of hope. I would say there was that was a microphone problem there. N6 NTM. That other station there was a little garbled try it again.
Speaker A: All right, I officially pushed the button on that radio. Lori's mom's lapping the property. Sally gets so excited. She loves herself crying a little bit. She wants
Speaker B: to go walk with her. Best friends. That dog used to run
Speaker A: because Sally likes to run full blast at people and dogs and. And she was too small. She. She tipped her over a couple of times so she knew to run for cover, at least lay down. But they run around and poop together in the morning, so
Speaker B: they get along just fine now. Hey, Pure muscle. And
Speaker A: John. John fell in love with. With Sally. She loves to play with him. Yeah, he's always interacting with her. Yesterday there was a rat or a lizard or something inside of a toilet box back in the corner of this first shop. And we could hear her over there jumping around over boxes and stuff. John just had the whole inside of his house painted, what, about three weeks ago? And so I helped him move everything out, took the toilets out, everything, everything. And she. She. There was something in the very back box back there with the toilet in it, and. And she had scratched and bit a hole in the corner of it trying to get to it. When we went in there, I told her no and. And to quit. And that lasted about 20 minutes. I had to tell her again and make her get in the truck for a little while. And then she didn't go back in there. But by then she had already tore out the whole corner. John was going to have to tape that up to keep things from going in there. I didn't see no rat or mouse poop in there, though. Probably just a lizard.
Speaker A: Oh, the, the toilet box. No, that's. It's in the corner. Yeah, Yeah, something was.
Speaker B: She heard it moving around in there. Now lizards, well, it's in the, in the dark inside the box. I don't know how a lizard would get in that box. Two and a half or three feet tall, so. But a rat probably chewed its way in from the backside or something Or a mouse. I don't see no mouse poop around there though. I can smell it in the third shop and a little bit in the second shop but I still haven't seen any poop. But you know it's there. If you
Speaker A: can smell it, it's there somewhere. No bats. Birds
Speaker B: though. He's had to put up a couple boxes for the birds so that they, so that when they, when they poop around where they nest and
Speaker A: stuff, it doesn't wind up on the ground. I think I told you this, but
Speaker B: Andy, the guy who owns the cement company that poured the foundation for the shop and built the shop and sold us the shop and have built more than 10 huge shops for Lori's work, which is how and why we got such a good price. Andy's brother, from the remnants of building all these buildings was able to build those three shops out of scraps. So anyway, they cemented the floors and all that stuff. Not perfect cement but you know, extra leftover stuff. Micro pores, not
Speaker A: too bad, not too bad. Oh, you know, eight by
Speaker B: tens, whatever was left over from pouring foundations. So he, he takes the equipment, you know, the grade alls and, and all the building materials. He drives that truck for Andy. His name's John. I got along with him real good, helped him back in here and I've. When I was, when I was doing the end dumping and stuff, I'd run into them here and there and we'd always yak it up for a half an hour or better. Yeah, good, good guys. Both those brothers right there brought up right.
Yeah, definitely. Interesting. When Mark came up and helped us with the tower pour, well, he mostly built the cage. I helped him, but he knew what he was doing. And that was my first real built right one. Once you get started, there's no stop until it's done.
All right. I'm gonna go get a half an hour news or. Or so in. You play with that. I'll. I'll get ready for breakfast. N6 NTM.
Speaker A: It does. It's too early in the morning, too. Oh, yeah. It's my day off. It's too early in the morning. How you been?
Speaker B: Not bad at all. Just sitting here. I work from home, so my work desk and my shack are the same, which is good and bad, by the way. It's good for in the early mornings just to have a little background on and listen to the net and all of that, which is fun. But the negative side is that I often find myself more focused on the radio than work. But that's okay. I'm doing well, man. How about yourself? I'm doing all right.
Speaker A: I'm doing all right. You know, life is being life. Work is being work. But as I was telling Armand last night on the phone, you know, if you love what my grandfather always said, if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life. And I do love what I do. So I have never worked a day in my life for that reason. But, yeah, works being work. But in the good news department, I finally got the last cable put together in order to get the DI box properly in line with the mixer. So that now HF doesn't sound all. All the time whenever I up.
Speaker B: Very nice. Well, yeah, that. Okay, that sounds like accomplishment. That's what that sounds like to me. Well, good deal.
Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. So.
Speaker B: So you're not deaf now. You can.
Speaker A: You can hear.
Speaker B: Or was it when you keyed up or just listening?
Speaker A: Keyed up. I was going from unbalanced to balanced and nothing in between it to convert it between the two. So I got a DI box and then I got the proper adapters and everything and then found out, oh, wait, the DI box to this one cable is male to male, so I need a female to female jumper in order to make it work. And so that finally came in and I got that hooked up. And I did test last night when I got home from work. Yesterday was Wednesday night into Thursday is my last full working day because I work overnight. And so then I drove home yesterday morning during the coffee break net, and then, you know, all that and I put the cable together and I did a test on 40 and it worked fine. Now I. Now I have other issues. I'm only getting about 50 watts peak out on my, you know, on when I go November Lima Whiskey. You know, when I. When I really emphasis it, that's when I get the higher power out. So now I have to figure out what's going on on the power side.
Speaker B: Well, as you probably no doubt agree, that's the joy of the tinkering side of this hobby. Yeah, but then when you satisfy it or when you scratch that itch, it feels oh so much better, does it not? I gotta get back. I got a 7:30 call here and I'm just gonna finish up a little bit of prep. But good hearing you Frank man. Thanks for the drive by this morning. And I think our friend found the correct push to talk button. Just took him a couple tries there. You know, again, I recognize it only because I've done it many, many, many times. Sendry bud. Have A Good morning. WB1G
Speaker A: did it twice last night thinking the PTT button was still on the VHF side and it was into the HF side. Whoops. Yeah, Smitty, you have a great morning. WB1G key G6NLW almost time for me to hit the go live button.
Speaker B: Yes, it is.
Speaker A: We'll be standing by.
Speaker B: Maybe today I'll watch the net rather than listen. WB1G73.
Speaker A: Good morning.
Speaker B: This is the coffee breaknet of the W6ek repeater. This is the net where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping. The coffee breaknet is on every morning from 7:30 until 10:00am ish Pacific Time here on the W6EK repeater, on All Star 51018 and on EchoLink. And we are sponsored by the Sierra Foot Devils Amateur Radio Club which is located in Auburn, California, which is north of Sacramento. It's a beautiful day here. I'm up in Lincoln, California, which is up probably about 20 miles south of Auburn. And it's a beautiful, nice, calm day here. Looks like it's going to be a nice day. All right, as we generally start out, this is just our general ride tunet. But we start out with some quick in and outs when we get going here. So let's do some quick in and outs, find out who's out there, who wants to get their day started. This is Tom on November. November 6 Hotel. November 6 Charlie, Kilo, Victor.
Speaker C: N2 Dyi,
Speaker D: Kilo Delta 6, Charlie Delta Quebec. Rick in North Island,
Speaker E: Kilo 2 golf, charlie papa chris, massapequa,
Speaker D: Kk5del, Frisky November. All the way from canberra, australia.
Speaker F: The juicy tomato, vk1jt.
Speaker B: Okay, this is who I have here. I got vk1jt, I got kj5gwn, I got k2gcp, kd6cvq, I got kc6sle, and I got n2dyi. When I first turned it out, my volume was turned down. I apologize. So I probably missed some people. So who did I miss?
Speaker E: N6ckv, k2gcp. Kristen matspequa, k2gcp.
Speaker B: Okay, I got n6 ckv, carl. Then there was a double, an rf double at the end there was that. Did I hear larry in there? Ihj
Speaker D: roger that.
Speaker B: Okay, I got you jerry and larry. Jerry, larry and who else was doubling with larry?
Speaker D: Kilo oscar,
Speaker E: k2 gcp. Chris.
Speaker B: Okay, yeah, K2GCP. I called you before. I already. I got you on the list here, so no problem. And now who was the other station?
Speaker D: Kilo oscar six kilo, mike romeo, over.
Speaker B: All right, K06KMR. Okay, I think that's John. Okay, very good. All right, well, this is a good enough list to start out for quick in and outs. So let me go to the top. Good morning, Patrick. And it is morning. N2DYI. NN6H for the coffee breaknet.
Speaker C: Hey, good morning. Actually, Carl was at the top. I was right behind him. So if you want to take him first, that's cool with me.
Speaker B: Yeah, I figured Carl was probably there early, so I'll go ahead and. I'll go ahead and do that. All right, thanks Patrick. Carl, N60KV Good morning. Good morning, Tom.
Speaker F: And everyone else.
Speaker E: Thanks, Patrick. Yeah, not much going on today.
Speaker D: Gonna put together a lamp that my wife bought and just do other odds and ends around the house.
Speaker E: Not much going on. It's not nice.
Speaker B: Quiet and foggy today. Back to you, Tom. Well, you have fog there. We have beautiful skies up here. It is crystal clear. I see a few little kind of straggly clouds, but it is beautiful up here.
Speaker D: Yeah, there's a light fog but there
Speaker E: was some yesterday too.
Speaker B: It'll burn off by 10 o'. Clock.
Speaker E: Not much going on.
Speaker B: I'm going to say 73. And thanks for running the net, Tom. CKV everyone have a good Saturday.
Speaker D: All right.
Speaker B: Very good there, Carl. You have a great Saturday too. And yeah, fog shouldn't be too bad. Then I definitely tell you you're going to have blue skies coming through afterwards. All right, thanks for checking in and aloha Friday to you, Patrick NT oai thank you for yielding your time.
Speaker C: Good morning again, Tom. I mean, it's been a whole minute and a half since the last time I said that. A lot has changed in that time, I'm sure.
Speaker B: All right, do you want to give us a short recap of what's changed?
Speaker C: Well, that's the problem. So much has changed that there's absolutely no way I could do that in
Speaker F: less than a minute and a half.
Speaker B: Just go ahead and pick one highlight and then we'll go ahead and discuss that.
Speaker D: Okay.
Speaker C: The rotation of the earth has caused the angle of the sun relative to where I am to change very slightly.
Speaker A: There you go.
Speaker F: There's one.
Speaker B: Okay. I wouldn't call that breaking news, but we'll go with it. I never said it was breaking news.
Speaker C: I just said it was something that changed within that time. Anyway, I don't really have all that much. The dog is getting his checkup today. He just turned 13 recently, so time for his six month checkup. I don't think he's due for any shots and expensive medicine. He takes two of them and we'll see how all that goes.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's amazing how much you spend on animals and stuff because they're all part of the family. So hopefully your weather and stuff is improving back there.
Speaker C: It rained pretty much all day yesterday. We got quite substantial rain and it's going to be raining on and off, mostly drizzling and mostly just cloudy today. And then it's going to be getting better over the weekend, especially Saturday. I think it's going to be around 70. Same for Sunday. Then it's going to get cooler again and then by the end of next week we'll be in the upper 70s, near 80.
Speaker B: All right. Well, it doesn't sound too bad. It sounds like spring may be coming. I think we're all looking forward to that.
Speaker D: Yeah.
Speaker C: The fun thing about this time of year is you're never quite sure what the pollen level is going to do. And I kind of got used to New York and so this time of year I have to be kind of careful when I'm back here.
Speaker D: So.
Speaker C: And I haven't been back here during this part of the year in a while. Usually I'm out of here by then. So anyway, don't have too much more to add, so I will let you get to the rest of your check ins. Good to hear you this morning as always. And I will say 73 for now. NN68 Gen2DYI.
Speaker B: All right, very good there, Patrick, 7.3. Aloha Friday to you and thanks for checking in. And we'll talk to you later and probably talk to you on the All Notes net on Monday night at 6pm Pacific, 9pm Eastern with Patrick next, Grayton, KC6SLA. Good evening.
Speaker A: Good morning.
Speaker B: Good evening. Good morning. It was good seeing you last night.
Speaker A: Good morning, Tom. Good morning to the Net. Yeah, it was, it was good to see you as well and see everyone else that attended Ray Abbott's KK6am's Celebration of Life last night. That was a very nice event. Very well, you know, very nice turnout of people. It was just good interaction, good memories of Ray. Everyone had a great time. I got to meet Ray's other child, his son. I'd never met his son before, but it was a great evening.
Speaker B: It was good to see everyone that
Speaker A: turned out and again, it was a good turnout and it was a pleasure to see you again, Tom. Always a pleasure to see you.
Speaker B: It was good to see you and Lisa and to see everybody there. Yeah, it was definitely a great turnout there. It's nice to, to a very, I think it was like Smitty was saying, well, I counted about 32 and then I guess we had a bunch of people come after. So about 40 over 40 people coming. So I think it was very well attended. And you know, we were all kind of put into that little small room.
Speaker A: There was a lot of QRM in that room. It was a small room with a lot of people talking and it was
Speaker D: a real test for him to be
Speaker A: able to pick out who they were talking to through the qrn. But it was fun and it's always great to see Christina and Thomas. You know, we haven't seen them in over a year. Would rather, would rather see them under better circumstances but it's always a pleasure to see them. So I'll let you move on with the list but I just wanted to mention that and you know Tom, I think Ray really would have liked the evening last night. I think he really would have liked the way that we celebrated his life. Kc6sle
Speaker B: yeah, I think you're right there, Graydon. I think he would have enjoyed all the comments and stuff. Of course he would have had his own comments based on some of the things that were said. But they were all at least all true and I think it was good. Yeah, it was good. It was good to see Thomas and Christina there. All right, very good. Well I guess we'll probably see you tomorrow at the Fox Hunt and the monthly breakfast. We have a monthly breakfast tomorrow morning at Mel's 7:30 and then we have a Fox Hunt with a Pre meeting at 9 and maybe the Fox Hunt and Fox Hunt will be turned on at 9:30. The fox will be turned on at 9:30 and we'll have Marty Ko6GXX will be the park stencher and that'll be in the the Auburn area. So that'll be fun. Seven three is to their graydon. Next up I have Rick KD6CDQ Good Morning and hello on Friday.
Speaker D: Good morning Tom and annette. This is Katie 6 CDQ Rick and beautiful downtown suburban urban North Islands. Tom, I got a kind of a curiosity question. You said you live out in Lincoln?
Speaker B: Yeah, I kind of go between Discovery Bay and Lincoln. So yeah, I'm in Lincoln right now.
Speaker D: Well back in my Air Force days when I was stationed at McClellan we used to have what was called the Lincoln receiver site and I was curious if that was still out there. If you know,
Speaker B: I have not heard of that before. I'm there are some other people out here who've been here longer than I have, especially Scott KM6RFP. Anybody hear the receiver side in Lincoln
Speaker D: comment?
Speaker F: Go ahead comment.
Speaker D: Yeah, Cam6YKX here.
Speaker G: If it's the the place that's out off of boy, I want to say it's off of Moore Road or something like that. It's west of Lincoln. It's pretty far out there. Yeah, that site is still there. It's still, you know, has a big fence around it and stuff. So I.
Speaker D: If that's the place you're talking about,
Speaker G: that is still there and still doing whatever it does.
Speaker D: Cam6ykx. Well, I'll be darned, because, you know, they shut down McClellan and after they shut it down, I left the area for a little bit. But anyways, as part of the global communication network, that Lincoln's a receiver site. And out in Davis, they have the transmitter site. And on one of my times out at the transmitter site, I was doing an inspection and some Turkey took a 10K transmitter, tuned it to channel 19 on the Citizen van. Boy, oh boy, oh, boy, did that cause some problems. I think at least one airman could found himself in deep, deep, deep voodoo.
Speaker B: Well, that would definitely cause it. Yeah. I have not heard about that receiver site there. So thank you, Rob, who's probably lurking in the background there for giving us that information. Yeah, very interesting.
Speaker D: Yeah, Lincoln receiver site was an interesting place. I had to go out there to do a quality control inspection While I was in the air force. And on our way out there to the site, the team leader, he was driving the blue Goose. We were in a pheasant came out of nowhere.
Speaker G: Wham. He hit it.
Speaker D: He pulls that blue goose over, grabs that pheasant and throws it in the back of this station wagon we were in.
Speaker C: What are you gonna do with that?
Speaker D: I'm gonna take it home and cook it.
Speaker B: That's funny. Yeah, I definitely will. Maybe I get a chance. I'm roaming around Lincoln. I'll go ahead and check that out there. But anyway, thanks, Rob, for letting us know about that. So. Yeah, maybe I'd get it right up here, Rick, and then you can take a look at yourself and see if
Speaker F: it's a same place.
Speaker D: Well, this is just a curiosity thing since, you know, my air force exposure is very, very limited now. Just a BX or no BX anymore. Just a commissary is all I got left. But anyway, that was just something that was going through my mind this morning as I was getting idle. So everybody have a great day. This is Katy. Six CDQ and 73s.
Speaker B: All right. 7:30 there, Rick, and you have a great day. And yeah, thanks for mentioning that. Yeah, I definitely will check. I didn't realize that history was here in Lincoln, so I'll look at that. All right.
Speaker A: Very good.
Speaker B: You have a great day and enjoy the in North Highlands there. Katie. 6 CDQ next I have Chris, K2 GCP. Good morning and aloha to you.
Speaker E: Good morning, Tom and Annette. Chris, K2GCP, Mass Pequa, NY.
Speaker B: Just had a good week with the,
Speaker E: with the family and getting rid of snow that came down and now I'm back to work today. I'm just actually pulling up, but I hope you guys have a great, great weekend, great Friday and it was good talking to you. I'm glad I got to check in on with way into work.
Speaker D: I always listen to you guys.
Speaker E: I never get to really check in because I'm always mobile with All Star. But have a good one and K2GCP
Speaker B: will be listening on the side. All right, Chris? Yeah. K2GZP NN6H this is Tom for the Coffee Breaknet. All right, very good. Well, stay safe back there. I'm glad you're getting a lot of snow and stuff back there. So glad that you're okay and enjoy your day at work. Hopefully you have a good weekend and thanks for checking in. We got you in the log here. Next up I have VK1 GT juice. JT juicy tomatoes. Good morning, John.
Speaker F: Yeah, good morning, everybody.
Speaker D: Is my audio okay?
Speaker B: And hello,
Speaker F: Roger. Roger, vk1jt.
Speaker D: Is my audio okay?
Speaker B: Yeah, we can hear you fine, john. Your audio is fine.
Speaker F: Yeah, Roger, Roger, guys, no worries. I'm a forensic psychologist and psychological scientist. I did my university through the University of South Australia and I also specialise
Speaker A: in a number of other areas as
Speaker F: well as Raptor autism and ADHD and trauma and what the world today and what's not. And all I can think about is when I used to run into the kitchen as a kid with a book open going, look, mum, look dad, look what I learned today. And then being told to be seen and not heard and you know, makes you wonder that Generation X and the kids coming up today, you know, what would happen if the next network infrastructure
Speaker A: fell down and things like Google and
Speaker F: all those online databases of information just suddenly disappeared and these kids could not actually digitally communicate anymore. And I've got kids of my own and we got everyone's future to think about. So it's something that we all have to be responsible for anyway. That's it from this autistic dad of VK1.
Speaker B: Okay, very good there, John. Yeah, it definitely is a different world these days and the kids are growing up with different, I guess, relying on certain things or having certain assumptions that things are available. And the Internet is definitely a big part of that. And of course AI is going to be a big part of it going forward too, here, for better or for worse. All right, John, thank you for checking in. And good talk to you again. And we'll talk to you next time. So clearing with VK1JT next, I have Will KJ5GWN. Good morning, Will. And aloha Friday.
6vzd mobile w e6axm receiver.
In 17.
Speaker A: Good morning. Yep, it's Will. KK5 belfisk and river going up to high 70 today. Supposed to be eight here tomorrow so it's going to be warm. We got some rain coming in, some much needed rain coming in this weekend. Friday night on it as a Sunday. Then next week we got a chance
Speaker B: of rain all week.
Speaker A: So anyway, back over to you, Tom. I don't have much to add here. This is KJ5's gal fishing with them.
Speaker C: Okay, well we got kj5gwn nn6h for the coffee brick net.
Speaker D: Well it seemed like.
Speaker C: Yeah, at least you're getting some mild weather there. Rain, it's easy to handle. At least you're not getting the snow
Speaker B: and stuff like that.
Speaker C: So hopefully you have some plans, some nice plans for the weekend and maybe stay in next week when it's raining there. So anything else for the net this morning?
Speaker A: No, I do have make a run to run the town movies but other than that I'm not going to be doing anything else sweet there. So anyway, back over to you. This is KJ5, Del Christina Weather.
Speaker C: Okay, well you have a great Friday, a great Aloha Friday and a great weekend and yeah and took your time back there and hopefully you can do some, some radio stuff. All right, clearing with KJ5GWN. Next up, Larry. K06IHJ. Good morning Larry and Aloha.
Speaker D: Good morning Aloha, Tom. This is Ko6iha.
Speaker B: Good morning everybody.
Speaker D: Nothing too special. I got up late. I don't even have coffee yet so
Speaker C: I can't even be well informed with caffeine.
Speaker D: I'm looking at the cameras and it's a beautiful day. It looks like I'm gonna get some yard work done today, get some stuff cleaned up.
Speaker C: I don't know if it's gonna rain again. Might rain again, probably gonna rain again.
Speaker D: Other than that it's gonna be an easy day today and this weekend we'll get back to it on Monday. Other than that, everybody have a blessed day. Be careful out there. KL6 highest J Sept3
Speaker C: yeah, very good. I failed to mention what the, what the days are the national days. And one of the national days is no brainer day. No brainer day. And that means basically don't do anything that requires thinking and you know, just kind of go with the flow. So yeah, yard work. I got some weeds here to pull myself so. And it looks like it's beautiful outside here in Lincoln so we'll be doing that. So anyway, yeah, so it's no Brainer day there, Larry. So maybe you can incorporate that into your. Into your day or sonic if you already are. See, I'm a heavy game.
Speaker B: That works for me. No brainer day.
Speaker D: Kind of like me.
Speaker C: No brainer.
Speaker D: Other than that, nothing. So thanks for running that, Tom. Get back to it.
Speaker C: A bunch of people.
Speaker D: I guarantee you're gonna have a bagel pile up your vision. K06 Ice Jake. Good luck.
Speaker C: Okay, very good there and thanks. Thanks Larry. And you take care and have a great day. Have a great no brainer day there. All right, clearing with Larry. And last on my list here is Robert Ko6t. Good morning, Robert. And aloha Friday.
Speaker E: Well, thank you, Tom, and hello to all the net.
Speaker C: I'm going to go to the gym
Speaker E: this morning and drinking a cup of coffee.
Speaker C: Excuse me.
Speaker E: Listening to the great conversation. My extra class is going very well,
Speaker C: just so everybody knows.
Speaker E: And we're right at halfway through. So got five more classes to go.
Speaker C: Plus one.
Speaker E: That is just a review class for a couple hours for review. Then I'll take my test and also going over my CW codes and trying to get that down also. So lots of stuff on the mind.
Speaker C: Over. Okay, very good. Well, good luck there. And I think you're taking the glasses there from Oraine and the group there and that's. That's really good. Yeah. So you should be all prepared to take your extra class on the CW stuff. Are you just doing practice stuff or you've actually done anything on the air or doing any talking to people?
Speaker E: No, just doing the practice stuff right now.
Speaker B: Once I get out of this extra
Speaker E: class, I'm going to go back to the Long Island CW club program and go through that. Then I'll probably get online and do a little bit of chatting over.
Speaker C: Okay, very good. Yeah, it's interesting to see how popular CW is. Back when I got my license, CW was a requirement and then they. They took it away and people were saying then, you know, it's going to die off and all that stuff if you don't require it. But you know, probably like the old film photography, you know, people go back to that because it's something that's new and different versus the digital stuff and it's kind of like cw. Well, since it's not required, it's kind of an art form so people enjoy that. So it's amazing just how many people are active and studying cw.
Speaker E: That is true.
Speaker C: And
Speaker E: I'll get through it eventually. Other than that, Tom, I'm just going to go ahead and sign off, finish my coffee, listen to conversation and head off to the gym here in about 20, 30 minutes. And on that kilo Oscar 6 kilo Micromeo, I'm going to say 73 and listening over.
Speaker C: All right, very good there, Robert. Well, good luck with your study there. I think it's great that you're getting your, getting your extra class and also studying the CW part of it. So that makes it enjoyable, especially when you start getting some, there's some contests and stuff, you know, CW only contest that you can participate in. And also cw, like on field Day and stuff, you know, gives you additional points. So it's a very good skill to learn. All right, well, 7:3 to you and thanks for checking in and aloha Friday. All right, this is Tom NN6H. I am your net host here for Friday, February 27th. And this is the coffee break. Now we do this every morning from 7:30, 10:00am ish Pacific Time on the W6K repeater. And so the national days, which I'll go ahead in here and go through them quickly, it's International Polar Bear Day. It's like I mentioned before, it's national no brainer Day where you don't, don't do anything to think about for today. It's also National Strawberry Day. It's Strawberry Day. It's National Kahlua Day. I think maybe Ray KK 6am would have liked the Kahlua Day. It's National Pokeman Day. Let's see what else. That's about all that seems to come to mind. Anyway, so those are the national days. All right, I'll go ahead here and take another round of quick in and outs for who's out there. Quick in and out for the coffee break. Net, this is Tom NN6H. Good morning, Tom, KV6 SSA,
Speaker F: Kilo Bravo
Speaker G: 6 Lima Uniform Victor.
Speaker C: Good morning.
Speaker G: Juicy tomato recheck.
Speaker C: All right, I got the kd3a n, I got vk1jt for a recheck. I got wb6a, kb6luv k6dcl and I got kb6ssn at the top. Let me go for. So john, that kv1dk1j2 for your recheck.
Speaker G: Yeah, Roger there, Tom.
Speaker D: I was just had a bit of
Speaker G: a special request and one thing, wondering
Speaker C: if anyone would be interested in learning
Speaker G: a little bit about auto autism and ADHD and whatnot. And I thought I'd just throw that
Speaker D: at you, let you get through it.
Speaker G: And if anyone's interested, I can go for it afterwards. Sarah, after you've Finished what you need to do?
Speaker C: My back to you. Okay, John, so, so give me a. Clarify what you're. You want to do there. You want to have a conversation afterwards about, about the topic. Is that what you want to do?
Speaker D: No, I was going to give a
Speaker G: little talk on it rather than a question and answer.
Speaker C: Just a little talk. Well, we can if you want to do something. If you want to do something quick, we can do it later when we get into the rag two part of our session here to do some quick in announce. Right now.
Speaker G: Yeah.
Speaker D: Well, mate, you're the pilot and the captain take it away.
Speaker G: I'll go back to my seat.
Speaker C: All right, John, I can go ahead and give you a call a little bit later here when we get into the rag two stuff there, John. Anyway, thank you for that. All right, so let me go with this list here. So go up to. These are quick and announce. So let me go to Tom, KB6. Good morning. Aloha Friday to you there, Tom.
Speaker B: Well, good morning, Tom. And the net, KB6SSN, Tom here. Yes. And we're all ham radio operators, so that means I think about 50% of us are somewhere on the spectrum. So we may want to listen to what John has to say. Okay, let's see here real quick. CW Interesting story.
Speaker C: World War II command comes along.
Speaker B: One of the problems they have is that the operators they have are hitting walls with their training methods and they can't get above, you know, between somewhere in 13 and 20 words per minute. And there's a whole lot of traffic that needs to be moved in the clear. Not the coded stuff, but in the clear. And they're just not copying it quickly enough. And the task to solve the problem is given to this lieutenant commander. And he is discussing it with, with his wife one evening and she says, I think my music teacher has the answer to this. And I don't remember her first name. I think it was Eleanor, but. Or Elizabeth or something like that. But her last name was Vance. V, A, N, C, E. And he brought her in and she consulted with the Navy for about a year, year and a half and taught them to hear the melody, not the individual letters, and as a result copy whole words as opposed to copying individual letters. And that's how we got the rhythmic method that we use for doing high speed CW today. She never got credit for her work. She went back to being a music teacher. And it wasn't until sometime in the 1990s that her contribution came out. So I thought that was interesting.
Speaker C: Okay, that's interesting. I did not. So I got my license. You know, I got my general class at five words at 13 words a minute. Then I got my extra class at 20 words a minute. When I studied, I didn't even think about the rhythmic method. But you know, it kind of just flowed in there as they started getting faster and faster. It just seemed that was the way to do things, especially with common words and stuff like that. You kind of just recognize groups of words together versus individual ones. Because if you try to do individual ones there, you'd never keep up the higher speeds. But yeah, that definitely is interesting. And that is definitely what happens when you do high speed cw.
Speaker B: Exactly. And it increased the flow of information by about 50% according to the story that I read. So I thought that was quite interesting. The other thing to talk about this morning is the VL1000amplifier is finally in
Speaker C: a hundred percent condition.
Speaker B: We were having some fits with the buttons on the front of it and Larry broke it all down and found out that the bar that supports the buttons behind the panel was bent. Now how that one bar, when nothing else around it could be bent and nothing else, we have no idea. But he got in there and he straightened everything and got all the felts back in place. And if you want to see the results, Confederate sun one YouTube channel. I posted a little 60 second video up there of all the buttons working. So if that kind of bad video interests you, that might be helpful. And then moving on to the last subject here. Worked a guy on 20 meters yesterday. Now I have read about this, I've seen pictures of it, I have read articles about it, but never worked a guy who was actually doing it. Apparently down in Arizona there is a. I don't want to use the word abandoned, but a no longer militarily occupied missile base that become something of a museum or something like that. In any case, they left the antennas behind and a local ham club maintains them. And you can just drive up to this big antenna array and there's a sign there that says please hang up the coax when you're done. But you can plug right into this giant antenna and use it. Well, I bumped into a fellow yesterday that was doing exactly that on 20 meters and we worked him. So that was fun.
Speaker D: Info.
Speaker C: Oh, that's an interesting idea here, Tom. Yeah, go ahead. Info.
Speaker D: Yeah, It's Carl in 60kV. Collins Radio put up a HF discone
Speaker B: out in the Arizona desert and that's
Speaker D: what the people are using.
Speaker C: They just bring the coax out to a table nearby and you can plug in and use it. Back to you, Tom.
Speaker D: N60kv
Speaker F: server info khe6 Vanilla Yep,
Speaker C: that would be an interesting thing. Yeah, you kind of wonder in this day and age that they would get vandalized and stuff, but maybe out in the middle of the desert it wouldn't be. It's interesting, Tom. I wonder you can locate some around here or maybe even put up your own antenna systems for people to use their.
Speaker A: Tom.
Speaker B: Well, you know, I don't advertise it, but I do have two different antennas that are in clandestine locations.
Speaker C: Blue Canyon.
Speaker B: Yeah, that are there and I just drive up and plug into them. But they're well hidden in the trees and they don't work all that well because they're in the trees. But they are, they are there. So I didn't have to stretch them out every time I went up there to play. Haven't been up there in a while. Take a look at that. Anyway, that's all I have for you this morning. Let's see our next project for Larry and I. Going to be a really, really easy one. We have a Yaesu FTM 510, brand new in the box. I pulled the box out to say, yep, that's what it is and put it back and it's been sitting in storage. So probably Monday morning I'm going to drag that out to Larry's house and we'll hook it up and maybe check in on the coffee break and see what this flagship VHF UHF radios are supposed to be all about. So, so far yaesu's made some pretty good radios. We've tested, so going all the way back to the 1960s, we'll see what this modern offering has to offer. I guess we'll talk to you soon, Tom. KB6SSN73 further info.
Speaker C: Yeah, go in. So,
Speaker F: good morning, Tom and Annette. Tom, ssn, you're talking about the Titan Missile Museum down there in Arizona. They're in Green Valley. They're hosted by the Green Valley Amateur Radio Club. And when you're a. When you visit, the antenna is free of charge when the museum is open. It's an 80 foot tall antenna with a large crown at the top. It's a wonderful antenna. The swr, not so great, but it gets out and it does the trick. KG6NLW Good morning.
Speaker B: Well, thank you, Frank. That was very informative. I appreciate that. Back to that KV6 SSL.
Speaker C: Yeah, it would seem like it would be an interesting project if somebody had, you know, a spare piece of land or something. Maybe you know, just a plot of land that they, that they weren't quite using at the moment is just put up a public antenna there and put a sign there says free to use and see if anybody takes you up on that. Yeah, because a lot of people, you know, you know, have HOAs and stuff and they don't have a place to do things. But you know, maybe that would mean a new type of thing. Instead of a poda, it would be, well, maybe public land antenna pla or something. I don't know. It would be interesting social experiment I guess there, Tom.
Speaker B: Well, that would be kind of fun actually. And it wouldn't be. You wouldn't have to even make a large investment in the thing. It didn't have to be an antenna. An 80 foot tall disco. Heck, the antenna that we installed out at Larry's works pretty darn well. We can get something like that for
Speaker C: a couple hundred bucks.
Speaker B: You can throw up a drive up n fed random length, you know, and that thing zooms on every van. So yeah, just drive up, plug it in and your mobile HF rig now has a base station antenna. I think that's not a bad idea, to be honest with you, Tom. It'd be interesting to see who you met.
Speaker C: Yeah, it'd be interesting. And then maybe you put a camera on it so people can dial in and watch people operate on there. I don't know. But then the other question is maybe, you bet how long the thing would actually stay. Maybe someone would steal it for the wire. I don't know.
Speaker B: Well, you know, the sign that I saw in the article, the said please return the coax to the hook. And it showed this coax coiled up on this board that was there. And that was their concern was that people left the coax on the ground. They didn't coil it back up again when they were done. Yeah, that's in that area. In this area. I think we have to have an armed guard on it 24 hours a day and that's going to run into some expense more than the cost of the copper anyway. Very, very interesting idea though.
Speaker D: KB6 SSM.
Speaker C: All right, so your project there, Tom, is.
The gears. Monthly informal breakfast is held on the second Saturday of the month at 9am at the Farmer's Skillet, located at 690 Rio Lindo Avenue, Chico. All are welcome to attend W6RHC Repeater Check 3.
Speaker A: Find a piece of land that you can do that with and then as an experiment and then offer it out and we'll see what happens. I think that'd be, that actually would be nice for people that like I say, people in HOAs and stuff, you know, that try to do podas, you know, and they may get a compromised antenna with a poda. But to be able to go to a place that has a, you know, maybe a 160 through 6 meter, you know, doublet or something there or you know, multi band antenna, that would be interesting. Anyway, very good. Okay. Anyway, thanks a lot for that, Tom. All right, these are in and outs and I know we're getting long.
Speaker B: Let me go.
Speaker A: So I want to clear with KV6SSN. You have a great day. Let's go to Dave a K6TCL. Good morning Dave and Lucy. Hello. On Friday.
Speaker C: Friday, yeah. There you go. I love that K6DCL here. I almost fell asleep.
Speaker A: Gee.
Speaker C: Anyway, just kidding and good Saturday. Friday my son is coming up to eat with my one of my grandsons and we're going to go out to lunch and I'll put him busy with a couple of things other than that I still love the 3185R yes. 2 meter radio. It is still fantastic and I still get raving reviews. I have a friend of mine down in Sally Springs who's on every Wednesday night there's a net and I'm heading them. So he just is amazed at this 85 watt radio and the receive is equally the same but it was something I was trying to remember but I forget. Doesn't matter. Still scanning the channels and no and Lucy said no to something on the Internet and it's always fun to have breakfast here. K6DCL73 Tom have a great week. Hopefully I hear you on Tuesday night when my gym Rushnet but if not don't worry about it. We got things to do. K6TCL.
Speaker A: Okay. Dave. Yeah. K6TCL NN6H for the coffee Breaknet. Okay. Well you and Lucy have a great day there and yeah, it's like you're here having fun with your radios. Yeah, I will get on the net. I usually get on the net if I'm in Discovery Bay. I can't reach of course here from Lincoln. But I do try to remember to get in there when I can just in some busy weeks here. All right. Well you take care and enjoy this beautiful day and enjoy the weekend and enjoy your lunch with your grandson there. Clearing with K6DCL next let's go to Brett KB6LUV. Good morning, Aloha,
Speaker D: Good morning Tom and coffee breaknet land. It is a lovely Friday here in South Natomas. We got that orange ball in the sky which has made its appearance. Nice thing. Looks like it's actually got darn near toasty yesterday. Had to put on some shorts and a T shirt to go for a walk.
Speaker A: Yeah, I did the same thing. I had a doctor's appointment yesterday and I went in there in shorts because it was more convenient and it was beautiful. Warm day.
Speaker D: It was absolutely gorgeous. I got out there with my mom Bonnie from Newton, Kansas who's spending the last couple of days here. Say good morning Bob.
Speaker C: Good morning to all of you in coffee break land and yeah, it's a glorious morning.
Speaker A: Well, good morning to you Bonnie and yeah, welcome to California. Beautiful weather here.
Speaker E: This is Sack Valley's original 105 machine W6CRC with a PL tone of 110.9
Speaker D: that she will be here. She's going to be going back to Kansas on Tuesday. But for those who might be up fox hunt tomorrow we will be there. My mom, my wife be and myself, we will be up there joining you lovely folks to hunt down that little fox.
Speaker A: Okay, very good. Well maybe, maybe we'll get to meet ami and your Y30. Yeah. Tomorrow morning the fox hunt. We had the breakfast at 7:30 at Mel's Diner in Auburn and then right after that 9 o'.
Speaker C: Clock.
Speaker A: So 9 o' clock in Mel's parking lot will be a meeting about the fox hunt and then I think the fox will be turned on at 9:15 or 9:30 and Marty Ko6GXX will be the fox tender. So yeah, I guess maybe this will be a highlight of Bonnie's trip to ampa fox hut.
Speaker D: I think it probably will be one of the highlights because most we have we're pouring around here. We got low lights going on high, high.
Speaker A: Well, I'm sure she'll probably be overwhelmed by everybody that's going to be there. Yeah, we typically have about 30 to 40 people at these breakfasts so not so many at the fox hunt but still a good turnout there. So I'm glad that she's going to be able to attend that.
Speaker D: Yeah, it should be good times. We will see you all there at the fox hunt. Preparation breakfast is a little bit early for us but definitely we'll be there for the fox hunt. Just a quick comment on no brainer day. I think that if you go out into humanity I think no brainer day isn't everything. Unfortunately, common sense is not a flower that grows in everybody's garden.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, I guess this is a special day for those that want to be able to veg out there. They can do it. All right, very good. Well, looking forward to seeing you and your family at the tomorrow morning. Yeah. So basically be there at 9 o' clock for the pre meeting and, and you know, bringing HD and all that stuff with you to help find the fox.
Speaker D: Yep, we'll be there with bells on. Maybe fox bells, fox gloves, I don't know. Hi.
Speaker C: Hi.
Speaker D: Anyway, everybody up there in coffee break net land, have an amazing day. Hope you all have a great day. Take care of yourselves, Take care of each other. KB6LUV View of Love 73 clear and listening.
Speaker A: All right, well, seven threes to you and Bonnie and we'll see everybody tomorrow morning for the breakfast and the fox scent. All right. And yeah, enjoy this great, wonderful day here. I'm still looking at these nice beautiful blue skies here. Makes me want to get outside. All right, clearing with Brett. Next up go to Anna KD3AJN. Good morning.
Speaker E: Good morning, Tom and everyone else on the net this morning. It's in the 50s. Going to be in the 50s here today and tomorrow and then snow again. I look forward to that. But hey, it's still winter time. I'm spending some time with my grandchildren. My one grandson has down syndrome and it's such a joy to see his reaction when I get here. He just loves it when I'm here. So did the other kids. But it's just so amazing to see the one with down syndrome.
Speaker A: Well, it's nice to spend time with your grandkids here and I'm sure they enjoy you being there too, so. Sounds great. So you're not at your home, you're at your grandkids house?
Speaker E: Yes, I'm at their house. I'm in Newcastle, Pennsylvania. I'm going to be going back home tomorrow and it's been a nice couple of days to spend with them. Everybody have a good weekend and stay safe. Baby 3 AJN.
Speaker A: Okay, very good there, Anna KD3AJN and N6H for the coffee breaknet. All right, well you have an enjoyable time there with your grandkids and have a safe trip back home. And yeah, it's like your weather is pretty mild there so everything is good there and maybe you get a warm up next week going forward. Good to talk to you again. All right, this is the breaknet on the W6EK repeater I am Tom NN6H. I'm your net host and we do this every morning from 7:30 until 10:00am ish Pacific Time. So yeah, we're reminding people that tomorrow morning for people in the local area, we have a monthly breakfast. It's always the last Saturday of the month at Mel's diner on Highway 49 in Auburn, California. Then that starts at 7:30 and then after that 9:00 clock we'll have a meeting in the parking lot for the Fox Hunt. And this will Fox Hunt. The fox will be somewhere in the Greater Auburn area. Marty K06GXX will be tender. I have a meeting about that at 9am and then the fox will be turned on right after that. So join us for that. If you haven't never been to a Fox Hunt before, you can team up with somebody maybe that's there and kind of show you the ropes. Bring an HT that way. A lot of people have actually found the fox with just an HT and what they call body blocking. Basically using your body to block the signals and then finding out what direction the fox is and then heading that way. So it's always a fun event and it's a good social event. So join us for that for monthly breakfast and the Fox Hunt. Then we also have our club meeting coming up, which is next month on the 13th, March 13th. Friday, March 13th, that'll be at 7:30pm and we have a new location which is the Placer County HHS Conference Center. We had our first meeting there last month and it was a great place, a great venue, great location. And that's in Auburn. And so it's the Placer County HHS Conference center. And we're still bringing food donations for that. We're still trying to help out the Food bank of Auburn. So if you can bring some food donations, that would definitely be appreciated too. For that, then we have the Loomis Ham Fest. That's almost less than a month away. That's March 28th. March 28th, 7am in Loomis, California. It's our big event for the club and it's the first ham fest in the Northern California of the year. So that's at 7am for buyers and 6am for sellers. The Loomis Ham Fest. You can get more information about that by going to w sixek.org and if you're also in the area and you're part of the club or just nearing anyone, we're looking for volunteers. We need people help with parking and safety and set up and Tear down. It doesn't require a big commitment of time, but it gets you there and helps out there. So if you can do that, you can also sign up@thew6ek.org and we do offer donuts and coffee for volunteers, so you might want to consider that. But it's also a great social event too. All right, I'll go ahead here and let me open up here and I'll do some more rag 2 or we can do in and outs here. So it's going to be in and out. Let me know, I'll put you at the top. Otherwise we can do ragchu. So who's out there for check INS and N6H
Speaker B: the second time? Good morning, Tom. And the net, kilo, golf, six, November, Lima, whiskey, in and out.
Speaker C: Wb6bjn,
Speaker D: whiskey, 6, romeo, bravo, india, in, out, ko6th.
Speaker C: Good morning ko6mmi.
Speaker A: And six rjm.
Speaker D: In and out.
Speaker A: Okay, there was a station that was on rf, the last RF station there. You're just barely hitting the repeater there. Can you come back to your call sign again please and see if I can get pulled out. W1frd. Morning, tom. Okay, I got frd. Can I double with you there? Can I get the. The full call please? Ah, W1FRD.
Speaker B: Good morning, Tom.
Speaker A: It's just for the log.
Speaker B: Gotta get to my men's Bible study.
Speaker A: Okay, yeah, well, we don't do the login until after 10, but I can get you as a quick in and out here. All right, So I got W1FRD. I got N6RGN, I believe. Is that the right call sign? Using phonetics actually helps if you do that. November 6, Romeo, Juliet, Mike.
Speaker B: N6 ripe juicy melon.
Speaker A: Okay, November 6, Romeo, Juliet, Juliet, Mike. Okay, I had the whole call sign all wrong there. Then I got another one that was ko, Stix, mni. I don't know. Can you give me your call sign within the next please?
Speaker D: That's kilo, o7 mike, mike, india, jeff and roseville. Morning time.
Speaker A: Okay, that was. Yeah, your audio is just a little weak. There was a k06 mike, mike. What was the last letter?
Speaker C: Last letter is india.
Speaker E: India.
Speaker A: Okay. K06 mike mike, india. Okay, thank you. Got you there. I'll come back to you. And are you an in and out or a reg two
Speaker C: quick? In and out, please. In and out.
Speaker A: Okay. And n6rjm, are you in and out or raichu? In and out.
Speaker B: Thank you.
Speaker A: Okay, got you. In and out then I have k06th. I have w6rbi as an in n out. I got wv6bjn mark. Then I got kg6nlw. Frank, are you in and out? Sir?
Speaker B: In and out.
Speaker A: Okay, very good. Anybody else am I missing from this group? Okay, hearing. Let me go to the front here. W1FRT just. I know that you want to be a log, but anything further than that this morning. W1frd. Okay, I'll just put him down as an in and out. All right. Up to the top, Frank. KG6NLW up to the in and outs first.
Speaker B: Good morning Tom and Nat Kilo Golf 6th November Limewicki here. Not much going on. Just waking up on the first day off of the weekend, getting myself together here. And for those that missed it last night, the NorCal swap over on N6ICW is on a hiatus. We are not sure when or if it will return so. And if you have any questions about it, feel free to reach out to me. I'm good on QRZ and other social medias like YouTube. With that I'm gonna have a relaxing day I hope here waiting for package to come in so I can get started on a setup here and a video review and whatnot. So that's it for me, Tom. I hope you all have a great morning. And yeah, Coffee Breaknet is live on YouTube. KG6NLW Good Morning Coffee Break and Tom, back to you.
Speaker A: Okay, Frank, KG6NLWN6H for the copyright now. So that was the, the news that was going to be announced there. Okay, well, sorry, sorry to hear that. And like some, some major changes there. Any other details that you can elaborate on.
Speaker B: Without getting too personal or rubbing people the wrong way? There was some QR Mary that just wouldn't go away and because of that certain people in charge said let's take a break. So taking a break we are. Unfortunately though, that means the potential death spike for the NorCal swap.
Speaker A: Yeah, definitely. It's hard when you stop a net, then people get out.
It. M17d searchlight.
Hey, john. N7tnd searchlight. You're kind of noisy. Yeah, it's pretty noisy. I can barely understand you. Do you have uhf? Okay, yeah. That repeater is kind of numbly. And I were just talking about we got to get up there and work on this duplexers but yeah, you're probably 70% noise. Better right there. I turned up the wattage a little bit but I think it's a little bit more than my little power supply. I got it on too big. Yeah, it's better. Understandable. But like I said, like I said with that repeaters we've got to get up to do some maintenance. Not working as well as it should. Well, we're just on the other side of Searchlight and the Yuma swap meet. We're going to be there all weekend. Anyways. I don't know if you heard me or not. All right, John, take. Take care. We're going to be on the road for another three hours or so. So we'll be on the radio if you want to test some stuff. 17D searchlight.
Speaker A: Of the habit of going there. Well, I'm sorry to hear that. That's. That's a sad thing that happens and I'm sorry that that's happening to your net there. I know I've listened to it before in the past and it's a very popular net.
Speaker B: Indeed it was. So you know, Armand has been doing it since about 1998 or so and in the last year here I took over the. Because he was having some health issues
Speaker C: and yeah, it just, it didn't. Yeah, I'll leave it at that, Tom.
Speaker B: Don't want to get too, too detailed on here and I, I can get detailed anyway. NN6H KG6MILW Coffee Breaknet have a great day.
Speaker A: Okay Frank, well thanks for letting us know and I'm sorry to hear that about, about the, about the net and the problems over there. So. Well, hopefully that, that hopefully that will get resolved and you can come back on soon. All right, you have a great day there. Thanks for letting us know. All right, my next in and out here and I think I have hope I have this call sign right was whiskey 6 Romeo Bravo India. Is that the correct call sign? Can get a name and location? Yes.
Speaker D: Tom and Annette. Yes, that is correct name. Here is Ron and I'm here in Paris, California sitting right next to Lake Parish, right on the dry side of the dam.
Speaker A: Okay. Is this your first time coming into the net, the coffee break net? Yes, the first time.
Speaker D: Found you guys on YouTube and figured I would come over here and say hello. Kind of like your form the way you got everything going. But enjoy it.
Speaker A: Okay, very good. Well and welcome to the Coffee break now. Yeah, we do this every morning, every seven days a week from 7:30 until 10am ish on this repeater. We are on All Star Node 51018 and EchoLinx. So yeah, you're definitely welcome to join us. We do it every day of the year except for a few exceptions when we release the repeater for some endurance runs and stuff that are happening in the Sierras. But otherwise we're here. We have different net control operators every morning. So this is a general rag shoe where we do quicken announcement. We also just do different topics and stuff. So you're welcome to join us and glad you found us. Yeah.
Speaker D: Enjoying it so far. Yeah, hearing everybody talk about the weather and I'm standing here, you know, with my third cup of coffee and flip flop shorts and a sleeveless shirt. Kind of feel bad but just planning on going out today with the Xyl and Doing our monthly shopping for the month, and that's about it. Just hanging out here at the house.
Speaker A: Okay, very good. Well, congratulations there and finding the net here. Yeah, we have Mark coming up here at WV6BJN, and he will give us a good weather synopsis up here in California and the rest of the country. He used to live in Modesto, California, and now he's moved back to Tennessee, but he enjoys the weather. So he will give us, if you haven't heard it before, it gives us a pretty good indication of what the weather is doing, why it's doing, what it's doing, and what's maybe coming up in the future there. So you might want to take a listen to that when you get a chance. All right, well, I'm glad. Thank you for checking in and glad you found us.
Speaker D: All right. Thank you. Enjoying this very much. And yeah, looking forward to the weather there.
Speaker A: Have a great day. Seven three. All right, seven three is to you there. All right, clearing with W6R Romeo, Bravo, India. All right, next up, I have another in and out is KO6MMI. Mike. Mike, India. Good morning. What do you have for the net? And can I get a name there, please?
Speaker E: Yeah.
Speaker A: Hello again, Tom.
Speaker E: This is Jeff. Juliet, Echo, Foxtrot, Foxtrot. I switched my antenna over, so hopefully my audio is a little better than what you got last.
Speaker A: Your signal came up. You're a little bit of white noise, but, yeah, you're Q5 copy now, so very good, Jeff. Thank you.
Speaker C: No, I just wanted to check in
Speaker E: and say good morning to the Net and that's all.
Speaker C: It's beautiful.
Speaker E: And the sun is blinding me out here on my back porch in Roseville. But, man, the trees are looking beautifully green after all this moisture we've had. Things look like they're alive out there in the world, and that makes me happy.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm kind of next door to you here in Lincoln. And, yeah, looking outside, I'm in the backyard here. Nice blue skies, a little bit of clouds. But, I mean, it's a beautiful day. Definitely a nice day to go out and get things done.
Speaker E: I might query your knowledge for a moment there, Tom, with some Lincoln trivia. It's not really trivia. I don't know how long you've been living in Lincoln, but back in the, let's say, mid-90s, there was a kind of like a Foster's Freeze place in the actual Lincoln City Center. The old Lincoln City center. Before they put in the 65.5bath.
Speaker C: Do you remember the name of that
Speaker E: Little ice cream shop.
Speaker A: I think we might have a comment there. I have no clue since I've just been here recently and I'm kind of a part timer here in Lincoln. We had a comment there was probably the answer. That's the one I'm thinking about.
Speaker F: It's called a squirrel cage back in the it was right there in the corner would be Walmart on Main street there. I've only lived here for 58 years.
Speaker E: I remember it being called Bruce's.
Speaker C: I think that's what I heard but
Speaker E: I didn't quite copy and if there's a Walmart in the old city center now I'm that'd be news to me.
Speaker F: The new Walmart took over Rainbow which took over one previous to that. That used to be school that way back in the day where that was at on Highway 65 middle there.
Speaker E: I do remember Rainbow. And was I correct on the name Bruce's?
Speaker A: It was Bruce's and then it was Squirrel Cage and now it's Mr. Pickles. I
Speaker E: that's the one. Thank you. I could not find that for the life of me. Even with all my Google kung fu. That'll be it for me. Thank you for hitching that little scratch in my brain and scratching that hitch in my brain. I should say good afternoon, good evening, good night to the coffee break. This is K06MMI wishing you all 73 clear.
Speaker A: Okay, very good there, Jeff. Well yeah, I did not know that little bit of history there. And also thanks to Larry there. Yeah, I know where the Walmart is. It's not a full size Walmart. It's what these what they call these Walmart community type of stores. And yeah, it's almost like the size of a Safeway type of thing. So maybe it was that REMO market that you talked about then the Mr. Pickles is kind of right across the street there on the side street.
Speaker F: Just kind of a little hole in the wall place.
Speaker A: You could almost miss it. But yeah, so I didn't know that that was Bruce's before. Interesting. Well thank you for that trivia. I guess I'm learning a lot about Lincoln here from the coffee breaknet this morning. All right Jeff, well thanks for checking in and thanks for bringing up that information. So clearing with K06MMI my next in and out is N6RJM Romeo Juliet. Mike, I don't see you in the log here. So I don't know if you New time a new user or new user a new listener to the net here and get a name and location, please. November 6th, Romeo, Juliet. Mike, are you there? And then 6h. All right. I guess we'll have to put him as in and out there. All right, so those are all the in and outs I have. So let me go to my rag shoe. And the top of that would be Mark. WB6BGN. Good morning, Mark. I guess it's Phil. Good morning. Yeah, good morning to you. And how are things in Tennessee?
Speaker C: Hey, thank you, Tom. Hey, things are great in Tennessee. Let's see what, what's going on here. Not much. Hope things are good with you. Sarah and I are doing good and looking forward to a good weekend. My birthday comes up on Sunday and I plan to have a nice big steak dinner. Sarah's gonna fix a steak and taters and steak and potato dinner. Get a big baked potato, eat all the stuff that I'm not supposed to eat on my birthday because I can. Because I can, especially on my birthday. So that's the day I will splurge there.
Speaker E: Go ahead.
Speaker A: Okay, very good. So when is your birthday?
Speaker C: Sunday. This coming Sunday, March 1st.
Speaker A: Okay. Well, I guess early. Happy birthday to you.
Speaker C: I won't be here on Sunday more than likely because I'll be going to church and then we'll come home and so I'll miss the the net on Sunday. But it'll be a nice day and hope you're doing well. And it looks like, it looks like some pretty good weather for California. It looks like it's going to come in like a lamb. Might be a little light rain for places in California, but how are things with you? And then we'll talk about the weather there. Go ahead.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, things are doing good. Last night attended Ray KK 6am kind of impromptu memorial we had at the Brewsters and had a lot of people there, saw Thomas and Christina and yeah, just had a good time there kind of talking and celebrating that and then this morning waking up having nice blue skies. So yeah, it's a good day there. It's also a no brainer day. So kind of a relaxing day anyway. So thanks for asking there, Mark.
Speaker C: Had to wait for my no diet. Yeah, for me it's depending on when I get up. It's not no brainer day. It's no brain day. But hey, no, you know what? Good, good deal. Yeah, it's going to be a nice, nice weekend in. In fact it's going to be warm today. You guys are going to be in the 70s in the valley. In fact Modesto, when I was doing the other net check their Weather going to be 75 today and 78 tomorrow. Somebody said something about rain, I think. Yeah, there's a closed low pressure area that's going to today and tomorrow. There's a big high pressure area that spin off of Baja and that's what's causing the warm, very warm temperatures. 75 today in the 70s, mid 70s and then upper 70s tomorrow. And in fact places over in the Bay Area they were talking about. In some of the inland spots it could be warm enough that they're talking heat issues for those who have heat problems. So you know, there's record breaking temperatures. It could be over on the coast down in Southern California they're going to be having 90 plus degree temperatures in some of the areas. So it's a very, very warm situation. Then by Sunday that high pressure area is going to break down and we get what they call a closed or cut off low. That's a, that's a load that is not in the direct westerlies in the upper air westerlies that move weather from west to east. And so it's going to kind of come in and slowly meander kind of around and then maybe open up the first of the week and move on, drop into the Great Basin as kind of what they call an inside slider. But it'll cool things off. It could cause some thunderstorms from the northern Sacramento Valley up around Redding Red Bluff, into the central Sacramento Valley south of Chico and Red Bluff and into Oroville and some of that area just north of Sacramento. The further north you go, the better chance of some showers, maybe a thunderstorm and then also some thunderstorms in the foothills and Sierras. But it's, it's a very warm system. Snow levels could be up around 8,000ft, 7,500 to 8,000ft. Let me take a break. And then, and then. That moves on and then it warms up a little bit, but not like it was last week. There continues to be a little bit of troughing along the coast, but no real big rain situation. In fact, the 6 to 10 and 8 to 14 day starting off March is going to be temperatures above normal and precipitation below normal for California. So that's kind of the picture there. And I think tomorrow will be grand for the, for the fox hunt for you guys. So everybody going out to that and. Yeah, what a neat, what a neat celebration of life for Ray. I bet you guys had some tall stories to tell about Ray and I'll bet that was fun. I wish I could have been there because I bet There would have been some neat stories there, Tom. Let's see, I'll turn it back to you for any comments and then we'll talk about the rest of the nation. Okay.
Speaker F: Mark.
Speaker A: Yeah. WB6BJN NN6H. Yeah, it was just a good time last night. Just good celebration. Kind of remembering some of the Ray's comments and different things going on, you know, his love of the trivia, those type of things. And yeah, just his comments which is pretty classic there. So yeah, it was fun and good to talk about that and good to get together. So yeah, a lot of people came out to kind of celebrate his life and I think he would have loved that. All right, back to you there for the rest of the weather in N6H.
Speaker C: Yeah, I bet it was nice to see Christina and Thomas For a lot of people, they haven't been there in quite a while. It would have been better if they could have been here on a been there on a happier note. But hey, prayers continue to go to them for, you know, for the situation. I know it's a, that's tough. That can be tough. Yeah. So what's happening now is the, it's wanting to be spring back here too, Tom. And so what's happening is there's another little thing of cold air that's going to come down out of Canada, out of the Arctic. And it's an overrunning of cold air at the lower elevations. And then there's what they call warm air advection moving in out of the Gulf and there's a high pressure area that sits over. The Bermuda High. And that Bermuda High also starts to open up the Gulf for pumping moist subtropical air northward. Okay. So what's going to happen is that last piece of cold air comes in, brings some snow into the Ohio Valley and parts of the the Midwest, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Daniel in Illinois, if you're listening, you're going to get a little bit of snow, maybe some freezing rain tomorrow night and Sunday and maybe into Monday and then that goes away. And guess what? It gets warm. That warm air that's being pumped in above that cold air, the cold air goes away and the warm air wins. It wins the battle. And I mean we could be talking temperatures in the 60s, 70s, upper 70s in places, 60s and 70s even in the Midwest. And we got but there's a price tag to pay for that. Tom Let me take a break. And it comes with spring back here and it can be in the form of severe weather. And because there's still cold air to the north, and there's major warm air being pumped up from the south and from the Gulf, and it's going to.
Speaker A: To start with where down in Texas and Oklahoma over the weekend and pretty much go through next week and pretty much start going through next week for eventually the Ohio Valley, the Tennessee Valley and Kentucky. And that would cover me too as we start picking up thunderstorms and there's been no real signal yet for severe weather. But when you start getting this long term thunderstorm and waves, short wave troughs coming through with very warm air, at some point there could be an opening for some major severe weather. And that has been talked about. So we're going to be watching that as things really kind of settle into what could be the start of our severe weather season next week and into the following week and it could be a bit long term. So we're hoping that we escape that Back over there to you WB6BJ on there.
Speaker B: Go ahead.
Speaker C: All right. Yeah. WB6BJN NN6H for the coffee break now. It sounds like definitely some changes coming through for the rest of the country there. Yeah, I think everything here things are turning like spring like we're getting trees and stuff that are blocked and all that. So yeah, it's definitely enjoyable seeing this and hopefully this happens and hope you don't have any of the severe weather back there because of all that stuff too. All right, very good. Well, I guess thank you for giving us the weather forecast there. So any other plans here for your birthday on Sunday?
Speaker A: No, I'm probably going to maybe spend some time and watch some movies maybe with Sarah, maybe work a little, a little ham radio.
Speaker B: I don't know.
Speaker A: We're not planning on going anywhere for eating. We're gonna, it's gonna be all done here at home and we'll probably do pretty much the normal thing. I like to go to church on Sunday morning and, and then come home and have that meat steak day dinner with mushrooms and potatoes and she went to the, she went to Sam's Club just today and picked up a whole bunch of stuff. So sounds like, sounds like some good stuff for my birthday. So turn, gonna turn 74,
Speaker D: Tom and
Speaker A: I feel good, feel good for turning 74. So so far so good. It's been a good year and starting off so that's, that's a good thing. So back there to you, Tom, and I'm, I'll say 73s and I'm going to wish everybody a real blessed day and a blessed weekend and we'll next week there.
Speaker B: Go ahead.
Speaker C: Okay there Mark. Well, you enjoy your birthday. It's like. Yeah, Sarah's going to take care of you there on Sunday and you'll have a great, great birthday there after coming home after church there. All right. And thank you for giving us the weather there and enjoy the nice temperatures going back there next week. And thanks for giving us all that you do there with the weather. And seven threes to you and seven threes to seven three to Sarah. And have a great Aloha Friday and a great weekend there. Mark. WB6BJN and then 6H.
Speaker A: 7 3s everyone. Everybody have a super weekend coming up. WB6DJ.
Speaker C: Okay, 73 mark. All right. And last on my list here is Greg K0 6th. Good morning Greg. Aloha Friday to you.
Speaker B: Good morning Tom. Good morning to the net, Greg.
Speaker A: KO6th lovely day today. Good day for getting out, doing some
Speaker B: yard work but the trash cans are full so darn can't do that. Do have some. Got some recycling to do and another errand to do and a few things around the house. Gonna order some stuff for the boat. I think I need to replace the seals around the windows, the hatches, the ones that open. There's a leak worse now than last time.
Speaker C: So.
Speaker B: Yeah, what do they say? When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. I think I need to change tactics on sealing the boat up.
Speaker A: There was a good bit of water in the bilge.
Speaker B: Of course the pump took care of all of it except for the last inch. I just sucked that out just to keep the bilge dry. But yeah, got some work to do next week on that and hopefully the parts will come in soon. I understand it's a, a very annoying job to do. One window in particular seems to be the problem. So go after that one first. Anyway, on with the day. Ko6th. Okay.
Speaker C: Yeah. Ko6th and N6h so I know that you went down to Citibo yesterday. It was a beautiful day, I'm sure and probably looking out there and probably wanting to be out for sailing. But. But. So it was a good productive day yesterday.
Speaker B: Yeah, the day was intended to be and was a clean, you know, swab the deck day. So went down, got some vinegar solution and bucket of water and the bristle. Not a mop but a brush thing and had it at it. The bow is nice and shiny now. Everything looks good. So outside it's great. Of course. I mean the water from the hose didn't seem to leak in but somehow the rain did. So I got to track that down. Next time I'm down there probably next week and see what happens. I can't go on Monday because We have the bee session. Maybe Tuesday. I gotta check the calendar anyway, so. Yeah. But the day was very successful.
Speaker A: I do. I was tempted to go out with
Speaker B: it, but there was just wasn't enough time. And I need to get back in time for the Thursday night net and, you know, I didn't want to. We got daylight savings coming next week, so things will be a bit more conducive for later, staying later and coming back when it's so light out. So we'll see about what happens then. Anyway, yeah. So successful day yesterday. Swabbing the deck. Halo 6th.
Speaker C: Okay. Sound like it's a labor of love there. Yeah. Yeah. It's hard to believe that daylight savings is coming up soon here, but definitely looking out here and seeing the blue skies and stuff, you know, I guess I'm getting spring fever here. At least looking out. This seems to be nice here. And I'm sure that I'm going to have to do a little bit of weeding out here because the weeds are liking it too.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, the yard work, actually, I do have some yard work I can do. It is good. The weeds are definitely coming up again. I mowed them all down a little while ago, but they're sprout back up again. But I think the underlying tone of all the work right now is leaks. Not the kind you eat, as in leaky pipes. So we have leaky windows on the boat. We have. I have two sprinkler lines that have leaks in them. Daughter noticed one of the sprinkler heads had water coming out of it. It's. Wait a minute. The water is off. Why is there water coming out? Apparently that valve is not shutting properly. So I got to take that apart. And then there's a drip line running under. This is part of the yard that you know, it's got ground cover on it and it shouldn't have ground cover on. Was at one time just bark. But the ground cover has been taking hold quite nicely. Apparently the drip line that goes underneath there has a leak in it. And whenever that line is on, that area of the yard gets watered and it shouldn't. So I got to figure out what's going on there. It's apparently enough to support quite a bit of plant life, which is not a good sign. I don't even know where the pipe is. I know roughly where it is, but I gotta dig down and find the stupid thing. And I believe it is. Yeah, it is. So the drip wine you get at the store now is from what's the company Raindrip is the current favorite. I got this back when Misty was the brand du jour. And of course the two are incompatible by just a hair. So yeah, Thanks a lot. Yeah. 6th for incompatible signs there. Sizes. Back to you, Tom.
Speaker C: Yeah, the fun of home ownership, right. You know, getting especially this time of year. I've done the same thing where you basically turn on because your sprinklers have been off all year or all winter. Then you turn them on and then you find out, yeah, you have issues and you have to do some work there to fix it. At least it's better to turn it on early and find out that you have problems than later when you actually need it. All right, well enjoy your day, enjoy your task there and we'll talk to you next time there and hear more about your boat saga there. Finding leaks and stuff like that is always not always fun but it is a labor of love. Okay, clearing with you Greg. And maybe we'll see tomorrow morning at the breakfast at Mel's Diner. K06th NN6h
Speaker B: yeah, definitely see at breakfast tomorrow. And yeah, one of the mysteries of life is how an earwig can climb inside of a sprinkler. Sprinkler head. I don't know how they get in there. They sure make a mess when they turn the water back on. KO 68. 73 all talk tomorrow.
Speaker C: All right, 773 there, Greg. All right. This is the coffee breaknet on the W6EK repeater. I am Tom NN6H and the National Day. So let me go through that in case you want to know. It's International Polar Bear Day. It's. It's a no brainer day. We've been talking about no brainer day. It's a day to kind of relax. It's National Strawberry Day. And yeah, that's. So that's about all that stands out in my mind here. So Anyway, this is Tom N6H. This is the coffee brick net. We do have the breakfast tomorrow morning, Mel's Breakfast, which is our club breakfast which is always at the last Saturday of the month at Mel's diner on Highway 49 in Auburn, California. That starts at 7:30. You probably should get there earlier because the tables tend to fill up there and you may end up sitting in the kids section there. So 7:30 for Mel's Diner for breakfast. Then at 9:00 clock we'll have a meeting in the Mels parking lot. A pre meeting for the fox hunt. Fox Tender is going to be Marty K06GXX and so the fox will be hidden somewhere in the greater Auburn area. And then around 9:15, 9:30, the fox will be turned on and you'll be set loose to hunt down the fox. It's a great event there. If you've never done a fox hunt before, they're always fun. It's a good social event and you can team up probably with somebody that has done it before and learned the ropes. Definitely bring an ht. If you're going that way, you can use an HT to do some body blocking and kind of learn some techniques on how to locate the fox, how to zero in on where the fox is. So anyway, it's always great fun and it's a great experience. You don't need to be licensed to do it. You're just receiving the fox so you know you're not transmitting. So really anybody can do it there. So it's the breakfast and the fox hunt tomorrow morning at Mel's Diner.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker C: And I mentioned before, we have the Loomis ham fest coming up March 28th. This is our big, the club big event of the year. March 28, Loomis Hamfest. And we're still looking for volunteers. So if you want to help with parking and safety setup and tear down and stuff, it doesn't require a large time commitment and you get to, you know, walk around and see what, what's out there and buy some goodies. And we are offering donuts and coffee as an incentive for the volunteers. But it's just a good event. It's a half a day event. You typically are there the opens at 6:00am for sellers, 7:00am for buyers. We end up showing up around 5:00 clock in the morning. Get things set up and then you're done by noon time. So not too bad. And it's always a fun event and it's always a great sunny day too. We never have rain on the Bam Festival, so that's a given. So that's March 28th. So mark that on your calendars. All right, this is Tom NN6H and we'll go ahead here and open up for more check ins there. Let me do a quick round of in and outs here. Quick round of in and outs for the coffee breaknet. This is Tom NN6H W1ATV Good morning Tom. KW6U. Good morning Tom. Uniform, Sierra, Kilo.
Speaker D: November 6th November Uniform, Foxtrot,
Speaker C: Kilo, Kilo 6 Mike, Uniform, Kb6ed. Okay then I'm gonna go through who I have here. I got kb6ed and I got kk6 in mike uniform. I got kn6n, us, ai6us kw6u and w1atv. Who am I missing?

Speaker C: I got K06IDV in the Delta Victor Dan. Okay, got you as an in and out also. Alright, well these are all in and out, so go to the top here. I got the Aaron W1ATV. Good morning.
Speaker D: Good morning. Tom and net W1ATV here. Just stopping by to say hi. Trying to recover from this oral surgery I had and kind of a long haul. I got like cold like symptoms now from it so.
Speaker C: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't. Didn't realize you were under the knife there. Well, I wonder if maybe your body is kind of depleted there and you picked up something.
Speaker D: Yeah, I'm not sure but it sure feels like it.
Speaker C: So.
Speaker D: Was not a fun experience. Let's just put it that way. So I was gonna go last night
Speaker C: but I just wasn't up to it. So.
Speaker D: Sorry I missed seeing Christina and Thomas and the gang so. But next time maybe. And you know, my, my thoughts are still out there for Ray. He's definitely missed.
Speaker C: Yeah, well we definitely missed you last night and yeah, I'm sorry that you're under the weather there. That's you know, oral surgery is never, never a good thing to get through. I've done has that happened to me and I've. In fact I was doing, doing some, I was doing seminars and I was doing two day seminars and stuff and I had oral surgery a couple days before that and trying to talk and do all that stuff with my mouth the way it was, it was definitely hard. So I understand how you're feeling.
Speaker D: Yeah, it's been like three days. So the swelling is finally starting to go down a little bit.
Speaker A: But I tell you what, I have
Speaker D: never had somebody use a hammer on
Speaker C: my tooth before but.
Speaker D: Oh my gosh, that is a skull power.
Speaker A: Didn't have an announcement.
Speaker C: Yeah, using a hammer. That is crazy. Did we have a break in there? I heard somebody come through. I think it was. I think it might have been somebody from the fire fireside network there breaking in. All right, Aaron. Anyway, sorry for that distraction there. Well, I hope that the whole surgery and stuff was worth it and that it going forward it's going to help.
Speaker D: Yeah, it's something I've been putting off for quite a while so I'm glad to have it behind me. I'll be even more glad in a
Speaker C: couple of weeks when it's all healed up, so that's about all that's been
Speaker D: going on in my life this week. So, anyway, good hearing from all of you.
Speaker C: Okay, Aaron, well, it's good to hear from you, too. And I. And yeah. And hope that you recover. And I hope that you don't get.
The Gears Net will be held Tuesday night starting at 7:30pm all amateur radio operators are welcome to join in on the net W6RHC repeater check 1.
Please. Id. Thank you.
Speaker A: Sick there. So just take care of yourself and follow the doctor's orders there. Drink plenty of liquids and just kind of. It's no, no, no brainer day. So kind of just relax and just veg out. Definitely sounds like a plan. All right, everybody, have a great day.
Speaker B: I'm going to try to come tomorrow.
Speaker A: We'll see how I feel in the morning. Everybody have a great day. 7 3W1ATV. All right, 7 3. All right. So concerned with Aaron Watv. Next up, Jeff. KW6U. Good morning. Good to see you last night.
Speaker B: Good morning, everybody. KW6U yeah, it was really nice to see everybody there that went. And it was a crowded rift.
Speaker A: Yes, it was very crowded. It was a good turnout and I'm sure Ray would have loved it.
Speaker C: No doubt.
Speaker D: No doubt.
Speaker A: Yeah, it sounds like you're a little bit distanced from the repeater there. You're a little bit of white noise here. I'm not sure if you're quite holding the repeater up there, Jeff.
Speaker E: Oh, sorry about that.
Speaker D: I miss.
Speaker A: Yeah, we just got. Sorry about that. And then. Then you just dropped out there. So, yeah, you must be mobile or someplace away or maybe out on one of your training hikes.
Speaker C: On a hike.
Speaker A: Okay. I'm sorry, Jeff. You're just not keeping the repeater up there. So you have to move on here. If you're out hiking there, be safe and be careful. And we got you checked in here for the log there. Maybe you can check in when you get to a little stronger area there or do a recheck. So clearing with kw6u and n6h go to Brian ai6us. Good morning, Brian. Good to see you last night.
Speaker B: Hey, good morning, Tom. Everybody in the net. And yes, last evening was quite celebration of life for Ray and so many people had so many awesome things to say and we really had a wonderful time. Quite the celebration. Yeah, let's see a couple of things here. I was just trying to track down what club he was with up in southern Oregon. So I've reached out to a couple people to let them know and yeah, it was just an awesome thing to be part of the group.
Speaker A: Yeah, it was very good there. And yeah, a lot of good stories and a lot of great turnout for Ray. I'm sure he would have enjoyed that. And it was good to see Christina and Thomas.
Speaker B: Also posted up a few pictures in the video of everybody going comment post that up on Facebook and I'll be posting them up on the club photo page here in a little bit. But yeah, looking forward to Seeing everybody tomorrow for the Fox Hunt and looking forward to to a breakfast with everyone as well. So have a wonderful day. Tom, thanks for taking the Net and great to see you last evening as well.
Speaker A: All right Brian, very good, thanks. And also thanks for taking a hold of Adam doing the pictures and the video and stuff. Yeah, it was funny. Yeah. Ray's comment. Yeah, definitely going to miss that and going to miss his check ins there and, and his commentary about life and about the things going on there. All right, very good. Well he definitely will be missed here. So yeah, people can go to the SFARC Facebook page and also our groups IO page and stuff eventually here and you can see the pictures and video if you couldn't attend last night at his memorial or his special thing. All right, pretty good there Brian. Thanks for all that you do there. So clearing with AI6 us next I have Joshua, KN6 and good morning and aloha Friday.
Speaker C: Aloha Tom. And thank you for running in the net. Good morning everybody. Hope everybody's having a great Friday. It's a beautiful day outside. Getting ready to have a birthday party for my youngest who just turned seven. Aurora, very sorry to hear about Ray's passing. He was great to listen to and talk to at all the meetings. He will definitely be missed by many. Kansas.
Speaker A: Okay, very good there Joshua and say happy birthday to Aurora there. I definitely remember her at some of the fox hunts, especially one at the Fox Hunt up in up in Stampede Reservoir. They're going out there and traipsing through the woods there. So very, very cute. Well, are you guys going to be able to make it tomorrow morning to the Fox Hunt?
Speaker C: We won't be able to make it tomorrow. Alyssa has a class on preparing for auditions for theater because that's what she's wanting to focus on. And then we have a birthday party right afterwards. So our weekend's going to be pretty tied up with all of that.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, it's like you're going to have a big day there. Okay, very good. Well again wish Aurora a happy birthday tomorrow and we'll be thinking of her on the box end. Okay. And thanks for checking in. So kn6n u f and n6h
Speaker C: everyone have a great day. 73.
Speaker A: Okay, clearing with Joshua. I got next. I got KK6 MU Mike uniform. I get Mike. I don't think we've talked before but good morning to you.
Speaker B: Good morning Tom. And looks like it'd be a beautiful day today. Go out to little RC Flying if anybody's interested in Saturday, Sunday Our country western band called Colton Mountain is going to be playing live up at the winery. Driven Winery.
Speaker A: Okay, what winery is that and where is that located?
Speaker B: It's called Driven D R I V and it's a Dynamodore County.
Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, I have not heard that winery before. So. Driven Winery in Amador County. Okay, very good,
Speaker B: very good.
Speaker A: Anything else for the net this morning?
Speaker B: No, that's it. 73 KK6 SAMU.
Speaker A: All right, well 73 there, mike and you have a great weekend. And yeah, enjoy the the concert there at so kk6. This is nn6h. Next I have ed kb6ed. Good morning, ed.
Speaker D: Good morning, Tom. Good morning to the net. I'm back over in Redwood Valley and beautiful sunny morning. I'm just waiting for some of the warmth to follow the sun so I can get out and do some garden prep for spring gardening. Here we are. Been waiting for it all winter. It seemed like an extra long winter. I'm sure there's a little bit of it left to be had but time to time to get in gear.
Speaker A: Yeah. I think with our weather here, it sure seems like spring is here. Especially if you look at all the trees and stuff that are blossom. I mean I think it's kind of convincing us that it is spring. At least it feels like it.
Speaker D: Yeah. Just like everybody else. I got some blossoms showing up on some things that I wish hadn't bloomed yet. Some fruit trees that I planted without the best of hopes for fruit trees in this area because I didn't plan on doing anything extra wrap them or any of that kind of stuff. Plan them and whatever worked out, worked out. I went out about a week ago and looked at them and everything seemed to be looking pretty good. Even some little green nubs showing up on some of the branches and some blossoms on a few of them. And then I just did a tour a week later and the freeze in between was enough. Was a deep enough freeze. I think it a few of them out. It's yet to be seen.
Speaker B: Yep.
Speaker A: Well, I think definitely spring has sprung and yeah, a lot of the trees and stuff are showing that.
Speaker B: So.
Speaker A: But also means a lot of now work getting things pretty prepared and the weeds coming up and getting all that stuff knocked back down.
Speaker D: Oh, the weeds. The weeds, yeah. And the poison oak. There's plenty of poison oak on this property. So dealing with that and doing a little dog training and gonna do that next and enjoying listening to the net. And I'll turn it back over to you. KB6CD.
Speaker A: Okay, very good. Well, enjoy the time there. Yeah, poison oak, that's not something you want to deal with. I just have a small backyard there. I'm sure you have a much, much bigger area to worry about. All right, well, enjoy the this Aloha Friday and also the weekend. And good to talk to you there, Ed. Thanks for checking in. So clearing with KB6ed. This is NN6H for the coffee breaknet, Tom. Last on my list here is K06IDV. Good morning, Dan.
Speaker B: Morning, Tom.
Speaker A: How are you doing today?
Speaker C: Not a lot going on my end.
Speaker B: Just working away.
Speaker A: I'm sorry to hear about Ray.
Speaker B: It was always enjoyable listening to him
Speaker A: and Christina and Thomas getting on the
Speaker B: net and talking about their life and childhood and stuff like that. Thanks.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's interesting when you start listening to the coffee breaknet. You know, you listen every morning, you hear all these, you know, these different people get on there. You recognize voices, you recognize names, call signs, and you even start to learn their life history or their story or what's going on. And it's all like family. So it really hits hard when somebody
Speaker B: like that leaves us.
Speaker A: Yeah, I remember, I think when Christina first was getting on, she was telling
Speaker B: a story about when she was younger and driving a car and wasn't too appreciative of it. She grew older, really ended up being appreciative. Back to that.
Speaker A: I really remember that conversation and that net. But yeah, not a lot going on.
Speaker B: Like I said, just working away.
Speaker A: Wanted to check in and say hi to everybody and hope everybody has a good day.
Speaker D: And thanks for running the net today, Tom.
Speaker A: K06IDV. From you. And yeah, with Christina, you know, a couple years ago, we had a field day. We had a get on the air and I was running that station and at that point she had not had her license yet. And I guess, you know, Ray kept wanting her to get the license and stuff. Well, I think a couple months after that, she ended up surprising Ray by getting her her license and also getting extra going to extra class. So that was really a proud, proud day for Ray to know that she did that. And then Ray then also Christina learning CW and stuff. So whenever he talked about her, you could always hear the smile in his voice. So, yeah, we're definitely going to miss Ray. I mean, he brought a different flavor to the net and for the net control operators. So it was almost a challenge to get him to talk and to maybe cheer up a little bit.
Speaker B: But anyway, that was just Ray.
Speaker A: So anyway, we definitely won't miss him. Anyway, thanks Dan for getting in there and also bringing up those memories. So clearing with K06IDV. This is Tom. NN6H. This is the coffee brick net on the W6EK repeater. We're sponsored by the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Class Club. We're Also on All Star 51018 and on Echo link. All right, I'll go ahead here and open up for. We'll do our rag two. And if you want to be in and out, I'll put you at the top. Who's out there? NN 6 inch, N9 muf, km6lyw.
Speaker E: Craig in placerville.
Speaker A: Okay, I have a. I think it's Km6. I forgot what your suffix is there, Craig. A Km6 lyw. And then I got the N9M and I saw a K6 lbb. Were you trying to key up there? I think I heard some touchstones.
Speaker B: Yeah, I was just trying to disconnect.
Speaker D: Sorry about that.
Speaker B: Friends don't let friends DTMF AI6 us. Couldn't resist.
Speaker A: That's very true. So. Yeah. So K6LBB, do you want me to disconnect you?
Speaker B: Could you please?
Speaker A: You're a little quick on your response here. Do you want me to disconnect you there, please? K6LBB. Okay, I still didn't get the answer yes or no. You have to wait probably two seconds after you key up. Otherwise we get cut off.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker A: Would you please k6obb? Okay, very good. I will do that. 7:3. Okay, so I have two of my list here. I got km6lyw and I got n9 muf. Anybody else that I'm missing from this group? All right, Craig, are you an in n out or. It's not like you're mobile there. Are you in and out or are you ragtube?
Speaker E: I am somewhere in between. Probably an in and out.
Speaker A: Okay. Daniel, do you mind if I put Craig up at the top? Of course not.
Speaker E: Absolutely.
Speaker A: I'm here for the duration. Okay. Thanks a lot for that. Okay, Craig. Cam 6l y w. Good morning.
Speaker B: Yeah, good morning.
Speaker E: From Placerville, Shingle Springs area. Hopefully I'm getting through. It's kind of a stretch here. So. Yeah, I'm actually going to Dad's house. I'm going to meet with a real estate agent, going to try and sell the house. So I know we're not allowed to sell things in amateur radio, but if I wasn't on amateur radio, I would say if anyone wants a nice house in southern El Dorado county, we're trying to put something up for sale there. Otherwise I'm always looking for YouTube video ideas about data modes. I know FT2 is out. Hopefully some people have some F2 experience. That's something I kind of wanted to get into. Back to net control.
Speaker A: Okay there, Craig. Yeah, you're coming through okay. I mean a little bit thick at this scene, but I mean you're coming through solid. Well, if you want to talk about FT2, you should talk to Brian. Brian did it in the shack, which is what we do. On the second and fourth Wednesday of the month on Zoom, he demonstrated FT2.
Speaker E: Fantastic. Yeah, I don't know anything about it. So is it just 6 less than FT8 or is there some additional features? I wish I would have caught that presentation. So can you actually communicate or are you just changing, exchanging call signs and signal reports?
Speaker B: Go ahead.
Speaker A: Well, I will let Brian mention that. Brian, are you still listening AI6US?
Speaker B: Yeah, happy to. Good morning, Craig. Yeah, FT2 is just a subset of FT8 then FT4, FT2, it is a very short duration transmission. It does require a higher signal to noise ratio. It's about a 10.5dB attenuation for the short duration, but it's a little wider frequency spectrum. So yeah, it's a 3.75 second cycle and so a full exchange can be made in under 12 seconds. So that is quite exciting to D Expeditions and others who have great conditions. And just an announcement. It is now included in the new 3.1.0 WSJTX improved version and it is now just a dropdown and it's, you know, it's very efficient. I've done about probably 60 contests.
Speaker E: Yeah, copy that Brian. Hey, thanks for the info. Appreciate it. Yeah, so it doesn't break the laws of physics. You can be long and sure or
Speaker B: show slow and sketchy.
Speaker E: Yeah, that's cool. I guess JS8 kind of has that too. They have a fast mode, short mode,
Speaker A: but yeah, I look forward to it.
Speaker E: I'm always looking for YouTube videos.
Speaker A: Ideas.
Speaker B: That'll be a good one. All right, give it back to Net control. Thank you for hosting the net. This is KM6LYW Craig in El Dorado. Okay, very good there, Craig. Yeah, KM6LYW. And thank you Brian AI6US for giving Craig the synopsis there on FT2. Yeah, it was good to see your demonstration there in the shack. That's what in the shack is nice for being on zoom. Kind of like an Elmer now on zoom, but learning new things like that FT2. So yeah, I guess they have FT1 and FT0 is the next set of things. All right, very good. Well, Craig, well, yeah, and your signal is doing good there from Placer county there, El Dorado area. So very good. And good luck with the sale of the house, talking to the real estate guy. All right, so clearing with KM6LYW. And also check out KM6LYW radio on YouTube there for Craig's great video there. YouTube stuff and digipy. Also a lot of good information there for amateur radio stuff. All right, Next up, Daniel N9 MUF. How are things in Illinois?
Speaker C: Quick comment.
Speaker D: Good morning, Tom and Danette. Warming up, I think. Mark gave us some good weather today. So I'm trying to encourage my son to join me for a POTA and just started to get ready for that. So the plan for the day is. Well, it's. Let's just say the no brainer day was definitely for today.
Speaker B: Okay, very good there. Daniel, let me get back to you in a second here. We had a comment. Comment, go ahead.
Speaker C: Yeah, sorry about that, Tom. I was a little delayed there on the PTD button. Craig, KM6LYW. Just an FYI, Steve, KM9G did a whole livestream this last Monday on FT2 and Jim also has some information on it as well. So you know us youtubers, we have that back channel. So go say hi to Steve and see what he has to say about it.
Speaker B: That's all.
Speaker C: K2 6 Another ya.
Speaker B: Okay, thank you Frank for that. Craig, did you get that information? Yeah, copy that.
Speaker D: Thanks a bunch.
Speaker B: All right, very good. Thanks Frank. Okay, yeah, back to you there, Daniel.
Speaker D: All good, all good. It's just been kind of a molasses kind of morning, but fortunately I set up a lot of the to do lists the night before, getting them done in good order and like I said, hopefully a port of this afternoon. So I've already shut down my system, you know, the computer, try and keep it mostly packed up and ready to go anyway. But I pulled a few things out, so It'll be about 10 minutes and I could turn around and get on the road.
Speaker B: Okay, very good. So you're going to have a good weather today for doing a PODA this afternoon. I guess you're getting a storm coming through. So Monday's probably kind of out for a poda, correct?
Speaker D: Yeah, not in the mood for that. And I've got some paperwork I need to take care of on Monday, but today should get up to about 64 down where we'll be doing the PODA today. So very good weather and we'll work on transitioning over to CW. It'll be an FT8FT4 day today, but hopefully within two weeks to a month. I'd like to shift to a CW pota.
Speaker B: Okay, good. Well, it sounds like it's a good mix there. So have you looked at the FT2 that Brian was talking about?
Speaker D: Not yet. I'm going to let the dust settle waiting for that version of WSJTX improved to get into my distro repository. And I've been so into CW lately that the only time that I have done digital modes is either on a PODA or when demonstrating for others. So like I said, I'm waiting for things to if you will get out of alpha mode.
Speaker B: So you're sticking with the original digital mode, cw?
Speaker D: You know, people argue that it could be a digital mode. It can be interpreted by computers that it's Vericode. I have trouble with that, but yeah, very much sticking with it and like I said, trying to get it set up so that my son can join with me as well. I know he's learning cw, but I want to check out some decoders so that he doesn't feel like he's being left out if I put headphones on and just start operating.
Speaker B: Well, I guess I kind of think of CW as being a kind of a digital mode because, you know, digital has two states, right? You know, 01. Well, CW has two states, you know, a dot and a dash. So, you know, with that you can kind of interpret whatever you want there. Yeah, it's all semantics, but. But yeah, no, I think digital is good. CW is good for getting through. And yeah, I was mentioning to Robert earlier this morning that I think it's interesting how CW has caught on as being something that when before people were required to do it, people didn't want to do it, but now that it's not required, people kind of gravitate towards that after they get their license.
Speaker D: I think about a lot of the things that Our parents told us we needed to do in grade school and high school that we absolutely didn't want to do. And then once we became adults and got out on our own, we kind of went, oh, those were actually really good ideas. I think that's also where it kind of comes from. It's when you're told to do it, it's not as much fun as when you do it free.
Speaker B: That sounds like broccoli to me. My mom would try to force me to eat broccoli and I wouldn't do it. But now that I don't have to be forced to it, I eat it on my own.
Speaker D: Broccoli was never that way for me. I always loved it. For me it was always borscht, the rush to beat soup. And that was my mom. If you serve that, I'm making myself peanut butter and jelly salad sandwich.
Speaker B: Yeah, if you can get that option. Some parents don't do that. Yeah, very good. Well, it sounds like you're going to have a nice radio day and maybe a radio weekend or maybe you're going to be doing music this weekend.
Speaker D: We'll see. The plan before we go out on the puta. I want to participate in the K1 USN slow speed event. That's from 2 to 3 central time. So I'll be doing that before we head down. And then radio on Sunday. Saturday is going to be music. My music partner is coming out on Saturday morning. Hopefully we get some bandmates out and get good practice in and then sun Saturday night I've got. Well, it shifts back to radio because I'll be representing Whiskey 9 Whiskey at the Windy Con meeting.
Speaker B: Okay, very good. Well, it sounds like you got a full weekend and a lot of plans going forward there, so very good. Yeah, definitely enjoy the weekend and all the activities.
Speaker D: You know, that's been one of the good things about being out of work. I kind of stayed away from radio. I noticed the last two years of my job because after putting in a 70 hour week, I just didn't want to sit down at the same desk for a weekend contest. And so being able to look forward to weekend contest regardless of the mode, it's been a good thing. Being able to do quotas has been good and that's something I want to keep doing when I get a job. I'm not going to say yes, I'm going to get one eventually. Downside of it might be I'll be a little more limited on the nat, but yeah, there's never, it's never a clear thing so with that I should say 7:3 and let you get back to the net. Thank you very much Tom and nine mel.
Speaker B: All right, very good. Yeah. N9 MUF NN6H for the coffee breaknet. Well you have a great Friday, Aloha Friday and a great weekend and all your activities there and yeah, it's nice to be able to incorporate all the radio stuff there and also doing all the support and doing the teaching that you're doing too to help out new hams and new other fellow hams to get stuff going there. So very good and thank you for doing that. And that's kind of what this hobby is all about. Just helping other people out is nice too. All right, so Seven Three and you have a great weekend with N9 MUF. This is NN6H Tom Coffee Breaknet. We do this every morning on the W6EK Repeater All Star Note 51018 Echo Link. We do it from 7 until 10am ish Pacific Time and again like every day of the week. And we are sponsored by the Sierra Fidels Amateur Radio Club. I want to remind people we have the monthly breakfast tomorrow morning. It's the last Saturday of the month. It's gonna be a Mel's Diner 7:30 in Auburn, California followed by a fox hunt. Fox hunt will be there'll be a pre meeting 9am and then Mills parking lot. The fox will be turned on around 9:15, 9:30 and Marty Ko6GXX is going to be it's his first time being a fox tender and he'll be hiding the fox somewhere in the Auburn area. So check out, check that out. Anyway the fox hunt is a great event to go to. We do it every month and get a lot of good turnout for that. So for that all right I'll go ahead here and take, take more check ins here. I'll do if want to do a rag 2 we do that and then I'll do also in and outs. Just let me know and I'll put you at the top. Who's out there? This is Tom. November, November 6 Hotel
Speaker A: Whiskey 2 Victor X Ray Quick in and out,
Speaker D: K
Speaker E: A6UAI in and out,
Speaker B: K4lgi in and out. Okay thank you for for spacing everything out there. I got K4LGI as an in and out, KK6U for an in n out and W2VX for an in n out. So good morning Doug. W2VX
Speaker A: Good morning Tom. What a beautiful day it is. Got up early and I woke up Connor and He and I went for a walk this morning down to the corner to feed Biscuit the horse some carrots and then over to the park and then back and breakfast. And you know what? It takes a village to raise a two year old.
Speaker B: Yeah. And two year olds will keep you young too.
Speaker A: Yeah, it was a lot of fun. He had his first encounter with slipping off of the big boy swing, if you know, it was a pretty slow MO thing and he was only just kind of rocking back and forth, but the look on his face was, oh, I fell. And then he figured out he wasn't hurt, he just got up and he wanted back on.
Speaker B: So you know what?
Speaker A: That's a trooper if you ask.
Speaker B: That is. And that is all part of growing
Speaker A: up and
Speaker B: teaching him stuff. So very good. Well, did he. Is this his first encounter with horses?
Speaker A: You know, he's been around the house here. This is week three, almost the end of week three. So he and I have been going down to feed Biscuit the horse carrots
Speaker B: for the better part of that, except
Speaker A: when it was raining and he wakes up and he wants to go feed Biscuit and then he wants to have his breakfast and he wants to go
Speaker B: over to the park.
Speaker A: So he's got a routine. I think he's going to be lost when he goes back to Texas and I think his grandpa and his grandma are also going to be lost. There might be some good aspects to being lost because he's a lot of work, but he's full of joy.
Speaker B: Yeah, very good. Well, and he's going to miss grandma and grandpa too, so. Yeah, definitely. You're making memories, so, you know, treasure all that and you know, take videos and photos and all that stuff too, which I'm sure you probably have.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'd say there's probably gigabytes of videos and pictures. Yeah, you know, yesterday, it's a little disconcerting. I know this is a quick in and out, but the disconcerting thing was the neighbors security cameras caught a huge limb falling out of one of our oak trees. No wind, just a tree's probably sucking up water and limb just crashed onto the road. You know, it's kind of spooky. I look at my trees and I think, man, there's a lot of stuff that's gonna fall eventually. But I'm not getting out the chainsaw
Speaker B: yet except to cut up the stuff
Speaker A: that's laying in the road. So that's what I'm doing today. Tom73 sounds like everything started out okay on the coffee breaknet transmitters and everything must have been working receivers.
Speaker B: Yep, everything. Yeah, I checked this morning when I got up. I made sure to make sure we didn't have a. Have the problem like we had before, but everything seemed to be running well. So. Yeah, no emergency calls out there and yeah, that's kind of weird, kind of spooky when you get a branch just falling on its own with no wind, no nothing there. Anyway, I guess you have. Well, I know you have family there too today. So anyway, I want to say seven threes and also wish Iris a happy 90 birthday. Yep.
Speaker A: Thanks, Tom. Yep, 90 years old and still young. Should we all be so lucky? Seven three, WTVX.
Speaker D: I'm clear.
Speaker B: Yep, 90 years young.
Speaker E: That's good.
Speaker B: Anyway, congratulations to her. All right. And thanks for checking in there, Doug. And good, good to talk to you. I mean, we'll talk soon. So clearly wvx. And also say hi to Connor
Speaker D: and
Speaker B: enjoy him clearing with W2VX. Next I have Ron K A6UAI. Good morning, Ron.
Speaker E: Good morning K6UAI. Just wanted to jump in and say I'm glad that Lori and I were able to attend the celebration of life foray last night. That was very interesting and brought back some memories of listening to him on the radio. So I'm glad we were able to make that. And there was quite a crowd there and people talking story about Mount Ray. So that was a good thing. But anyway, that's about all I have for this morning. Another workday for a while anyway and then we'll see about the phasing into the Powhatan here as soon as possible.
Speaker B: Okay, very good there, Ray. Yeah, it was, it was nice good to see you and Lori last night. I just want to mention FYI, your audio is pretty, pretty low there. It's quite a bit lower than Doug and the other people on the net here. So just FYI that your audio is a little low. A little bit. I don't turn off the volume to hear you. Anyway, yeah, it was good seeing you guys last night and yeah, it was good to hear the stories and everybody talk about Ray and it was nice to see everybody showing up to honor Ray too.
Speaker E: Yeah, it was a good thing.
Speaker B: I'll see if I can fix my
Speaker E: audio here, go in and find my mic setting. Then you'll start picking up the noise of the guy with the blower or whatever it is where he likes to stand outside my, my window while I'm working for several minutes at a time. But anyway, everyone have a great weekend coming up. Should be some nice weather today and tomorrow and pretty nice on Sunday, too
Speaker B: with a little bit of shade.
Speaker E: So should be a good weekend. Ka6uai7 3, everyone.
Speaker B: Hey, Ron. Yeah, your audio, I think you might have spoke up a little better, maybe put the mic closer to your mouth there. Yeah, it was a little better that last time. Yeah. These microphones typically are noise canceling mics and you want to be kind of close to it when you talk, kind of talk, go over the mic and they don't pick up a lot of background noise. At least the ones for the amateur stuff that at least that I found Very good. Okay. Well, you have a great day there and hopefully you get some radio time in there too. So anyway, good to talk to you. Good to see you too. You and Laurie clearing with Ka6uai. This is NN6H next going back to Denver, K4LGI. Good morning, Sam. Good morning, Tom, everybody. That Ed here. Sam Wineko link from Denver, where it's nice and sunny and it's been windy
Speaker E: here day after day, just enough to
Speaker B: make it unpleasant to.
Speaker A: Kfo, hqz n7t ending your own sound.
Speaker B: Kfo, hqg and 7t andy.
Speaker A: All right, now it's working. And for hdd. Okay, a little bit of. A little bit of hash in the background, but better than before instead of the few. Yeah, I think I got a bad jumper or something. Oh, yeah, that'll do it. Yeah, you're. Like I said, a little bit of hash. Much more understandable than before. Where the hell we're at? We're somewhere. Somewhere in the middle of frickin nowhere is where we're at, but Vidal. Vidal.
Speaker B: We're by Vidal. California, by the Agricultural Inspection Division.
Speaker A: Yeah, I think I thought I burnt the vinyl down on my radio or something. I wasn't
Speaker B: able
Speaker A: to get anything, but I put the intent back. I hit it with the coax, piped a little bit and it started working again. So I must have a bad connection. Yeah. May want to build a new jumper. Man,
Speaker B: I need to get this antenna outside as well.
Speaker A: Let me. Well, I'm running more power supply now, so I'm on full power. You can hear me a little bit better. Quite honestly. Really can't tell the difference, John. It's still about 50% noise, but it's intelligible. Okay. N7c ending.
Speaker A: Enjoy the sunshine.
Speaker B: So.
Speaker A: And they're predicting perhaps a cold front coming in here. Yeah. You're sounding good this morning, Tom. Everybody. I've heard sounding good. The volume's a little low there on
Speaker C: uai, but you know, I'm glad to
Speaker A: hear some of the things that people are talking about. A lot of people showed up I guess last night honoring 6am and Ray sort of sad to think about that, but maybe if his daughter stayed here, didn't move to Tennessee, maybe he'd still be around. It's hard to say. You think about things like that. Not too much happening here. Got up, had breakfast and coffee, went back, crashed out for a minute or two, hour or two, got up, felt hungry again, had another breakfast. So I turned 28 today. So today is one of those special days when you complete a trip around the sun, have a nice evening there, a nice morning and day, weekend, whatever. K4 LGI.
Speaker C: Thank you.
Speaker B: Tomorrow.
Speaker C: Okay there Sam. So did I hear that you turned 28 today? So today is your birthday.
Speaker A: Yeah, that's one of those things that rolls around every once in a while.
Speaker B: That was a joke.
Speaker C: Well I know the joke was about 28, but today is really your birthday. If it is, congratulations and happy birthday.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was 1:27. My brother's one on 26. So in the family almost the same day about 4:00 clock in the morning. I missed 26 by a couple of hours. Thank you very much and everybody have a very enjoyable weekend. Denver here, K4LGI.
Speaker C: Very good there. Sam 73 to you. And you have enjoy your birthday today. Have a happy birthday and good to talk to you and thanks for checking in. All right. So clearing with the birthday boy, K4LGI and now Mark's birthday. WB6BJN is going to be on Sunday. So you guys are close in birthdays. All right, seven three so this is Tom NM6H and this is the coffee rec net. We're getting close to the witching hour here so I will go ahead. Well first off I can keep mentioning it but I'll mention again we have the monthly breakfast tomorrow morning at 7:30 at Mills Diner on Highway 49 in Auburn. And then we have the Fox Hunt following that which is kind of to be a 9am meeting in the Mel's parking lot the restaurant and that is hosted the foxtender is Marty Ko6GXX will be doing the first time doing the Fox Hunt. So join us for that tomorrow for the breakfast and also for the Fox Hunt. Also Loomis Ham Fest is going to be March 28, Saturday, March 28 being put on by the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club. This is a big event for us and we are looking for volunteers. If you can volunteer if you're in the local area and you can volunteer to help set up or tear down or parking or maybe the safety committee, join us and you can go to w sixek.org w6ek.org and get information there and sign up. Or you can contact Frank KG9M Kilo Golf 9 Mike. He is heading up the hemp fest this year and we definitely could use your help there. All right, I will go ahead here and open up for in and outs. In and outs for the coffee breaknet as we get close to the witching hour of 10am Pacific time. Coast out there and NN6H

Everyone have a great day. Excellent weather. I got my windows down, AC off, heater off. Just enjoying the 73 degree weather down here in Sacramento. W6JCZ back to net.
Speaker C: Okay, very good there Jim. Yeah, it's a beautiful day. It's up here. Beautiful day up here in Lincoln. So I'm sure it's good all around there so very good. Well you have a great day. Maybe we'll see you tomorrow night or tomorrow night. Tomorrow morning at the the breakfast. So clearing W6JCZ next. I have a kilo. I think it's kilo November 6th here. A kilo kilo. I don't think we've talked before. Name and location.
Speaker B: Yeah, this is Grovers, Sacramento, California, East Sacramento.
Speaker C: Okay, very good. So the name was Grover, is that correct? And is this your first time on the net?
Speaker B: Yeah, this is my first time on the net. I was recommended to tune in KM6PHO.
Speaker C: Okay, very good. Well I'm glad you found us here. We do this every morning from 7:30 until 10am on the W60K repeater, All Star and EchoLink. And we do it seven days a week every day of the year except for a few exceptions when we do it host some of the endurance races in the Sierra foothills.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's very nice. To hear. And like I said, this is my first time. So I thought I'd check in on my mobile units since my handheld would not reach the repeater.
Speaker C: Okay, well, if you're coming through from Sacramento, you're coming through loud and clear into the repeater.
Speaker B: Copy that.
Speaker C: Yeah. In fact, you're full quieting into the mountaintop repeater. We have three different voter receivers. We have one in Georgetown, we have one. One in Rockland, and we have in Mountaintop. And you're coming through on the mountaintop repeater of full quieting there. Very good. Well, welcome to the Net and anything else that you have for us this morning.
Speaker B: Not now. This is Kilo, November 6th Sierra, Kilo, Kilo standing by.
Speaker C: All right, very good. Well, thank you for checking in. We got you in the log here. You can join us every morning, I can say from 7:30 until 10:00am IST on this repeater. And we're also connected through All Star 51018. And we also have echo link. So if you're out of the area you can still listen to us. And you can also listen to us on Broadcastify. We have a Broadcastify feed for just listen only. And you can go to our website, w sixek.org w6ekwhiskey6echokilo.org and we have all the information about our club, what we do, and also the Broadcastify link and those things. I'll go ahead and throw out the coffee grounds here and then we'll shut things down until tomorrow morning when Orion AI 6JV will be the net host starting at 7:30 so we can continue the conversation. I want to thank everyone for being here and I want to remind people again if you're in the local area, we have the monthly breakfast tomorrow morning, 7:30 at Mel's Diner and followed by the Fox Hunt with a meeting at 9am and the fox will be turned on at 9:15 to 9:30 for that. It's always a fun thing there. All right, I want to thank everyone for being here. This is the coffee break net, where the sun is always shining, the birds are singing and the fish are jumping. And one last shout out for Ray KK 6am silent key. He will greatly be missed on this net and our club activities here. And anyway, we're really, really sad for that. And everybody becomes family on here and we get everybody's stories and kind of follow things along. And so it's sad when somebody leaves us like that. So anyway, rest in peace there, Ray. All right. This is Tom and F6. Hi. Thank you for everybody's conversation and check in this morning and we'll see you next week. This is Tom.NN6H sign 7 3. Everyone have a great Aloha Friday and a great weekend. We'll talk to you next time. NN6H clear. And returning the repeater and the nodes back to normal operation, whatever that may be.
Speaker B: Thanks, tom.
Speaker C: Great job running the net. And you have a great weekend.
Speaker B: Ai6us.
Speaker C: Thank you, Brian. And we'll see you tomorrow morning. I'll be at the breakfast at N6H. Absolutely. Fox, son, you have a great day.
It. John, this is Ralph, N7T and D. You're really, really noisy, man. Much worse than before.
You're there, John, but you're noisy in 17.
It's really a rough copy, john. I'm 17.
Yeah, I think on my end it's just got lots to do with where I set this into it. Yeah, yeah. How much? How much? How many amps is that power supply source? That's only a nine amp. Yeah, there's a really bad copy, John. Nine amps? Yeah, nine amp supply. That's not gonna. That's why I'm not doing anything high power. You're probably folding back the supply. You're not putting up what you need. So. Yeah, get the antenna outside, replace that jumper. Figure out a way to get coaxes out. Yeah, okay, I'll let you go. And seven, Tandy.
Node 51018 disconnected.
Here's hold the free Morse code class every Wednesday night, 6pM at the Golden Beaver Distillery still house at 2420 Park Avenue. All are welcome to come learn Morse code W6R, H, C repeater check 2.
Speaker A: Hey, shut the hell up. Not too bad, Derek. Not too bad. How about yourself? 14 inches. Incentive of it. Oh,
Speaker B: man. Had my step IR antenna pointing to the ground. All. All six
Speaker A: elements. Ah, we don't
Speaker C: care. We've had 4 or 5ft right here in the yard. 14 inches. Just makes it look pretty. Hey, I'm just passing by. I'm headed outside. Back to the grind. Enjoy your day. Catch you later. N6
Speaker A: NTM. Does masturbation count?
Speaker B: All right. No matter what color spray paint you get spraying at the top of the hill, catch the meter.
Los angeles link up. Ko6 Mike. Mike Golf monitoring.
Speaker A: W e6a x n repeater.
Speaker B: Wd60. Wd6axm test
Speaker A: clear.
Speaker A: N7ld to stand for hpt.
Speaker B: Hey, john, just got back in the car. Good timing. M7pnd blight, california.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm picking the. Picking the repeater up way better now. So probably hitting it better as well.
Speaker B: Either you're a little off frequency or there's phase distortion. But your. Yeah, your signal is much stronger than it was.
Speaker A: Maybe the microphone that they're setting up for long time. Yeah, could be. Could be.
Speaker B: Did you replace that jumper or what?
Speaker A: Yeah, I replaced the jumper. I put a wattage here in line. Well. And now I got the thing bolted to a little depth ladder sitting here. And put the little radials on the bottom of it. So it seems to be picking the repeater up way better. So I was hoping it was. I was hitting it way, you know, better as well.
Speaker B: You're definitely hitting it better than you were before. 100%. Like I said, we've got it. We've got to get up there, do some work on the duplexer. So we've got quite a bit of that. The repeater's numb. So we gotta have that on a list of stuff to do next time we get up to Redmont.
Speaker A: Yeah, I put the radio down on low power. Did that take some of the distortion away? Maybe it's just because I don't have enough power supply.
Speaker B: No, actually, it didn't make a difference at all. So you're just as the audio. The signal level is about the same, I would say. So you can leave it at low power. Yeah, yeah, sure is.
Speaker A: I want to difference a step ladder and these little radials make. Yeah, I got a little brown plane.
Speaker B: What kind of antenna is.
Speaker A: It's one that Denny gave me years ago. And it's been sitting in my garage. It's comet these kind of three.
Speaker B: Oh, so it's a. It's a base station fiberglass collinear type antenna or what?
Speaker A: Yeah, I think it does 440 as well. Yeah, it's. I've got it in my. It's right here next to the radio. The bottom of the antenna is probably about 4ft high. And it's going all the way to. Got it.
Speaker B: Got it. Now, you get that thing outside, you'll probably be full crunch.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Made a big difference if just bolting it to the ladder here and putting the little radials on it.
Speaker B: Now the radials, as you know, gives you. That gives you your counterpoise.
Speaker A: Right.
Speaker B: So. Good deal. I'm surprised you're not working today. You got the day off.
Speaker A: I don't Work anymore, Al. Oh, okay.
Speaker B: I thought you were working at locations North.
Speaker A: All right.
Speaker B: Like, I lost track of things.
Speaker A: No, I took that. That first Doge buyout that came out. Me and Tom Edgar both took. Took that at the same time. Wow. Swr. Like, almost nothing on this thing as well. And so I stopped. Stopped working around March or April last. Last year. And we got paid until 31December.
Speaker B: Ah, geez, you can't beat that. All right, so how you like in retirement?
Speaker A: I'm liking it. That's why I got time to start messing with things like this. I. My. My old car is in better shape now than it probably ever has been because I'm out there in the garage all the time now. Do all my plastic car events and stuff and, you know. And now my cousin in South Carolina, his. His son got a ham radio license, and me and his son, like, talked him into going and taking the test when his son was upgrading to general. And he passed the test. He has a call sign. And so there. They've been kind of bugging me. They like to set something up here so we can kind of.
Speaker B: Oh, that's awesome. That's awesome. You gotta get your hands on UHF radio, man. Our, uh, coverage is like a dense fog around the town. The VHF's not that good. Like I said, we've got to work on it. But you gotta get your hands on one of those and talking to, like, High Flow to see Angel Peak, those major mountaintops.
Speaker A: Yeah. Right now I'm just. I'm just digging out things that have been sitting out in the garage forever. I powered up my. My old HF radio that has been turned on in probably 20 years. Haven't tried transmitting on it.
Speaker B: The bands are, as you've probably read or heard or whatever. The bands are really, really good right now. 10 meters is stupid good. So that was a good time.
Speaker A: Yeah, that's what my cousins were saying, as a matter of fact, that when they called me the first time because they thought that I had probably had something set up here. And I guess they were. They. They were talking to people out this way on 10 meters and had to tell them I didn't have anything set up right now, but I'm working on it.
Speaker B: Well, very good. Yeah, it's good to hear you on the radio. Hopefully we'll hear you some more.
Speaker A: So. All right, well, Lee and I are
Speaker B: heading down to Yuma for the swap meet and be down here until probably Sunday afternoon or so.
Speaker A: See what.
Speaker B: See what things they have that we can resist buying.
Speaker A: Roger, that. Yeah, I'll maybe hang on here a little bit more if I can get some coax run going out of the house. The setup that Denny came here is brackets and stuff you gave. It's designed to go on the. One of the roof fence up on the. Up on the top of the house, I guess.
Speaker B: Yeah. There you go. Okay. All right, John, I'll talk to you later. Put my hands back on the wheel here. Have a good rest of your day down there. It's gonna be in the mid-90s down here today, so pack shorts and a T shirt and 17.
Speaker A: Roger. Just to make a hurt on the current on the radio. Supposed to get almost 85 here today, so it's gonna be even warmer than yesterday. All right, have a good one. You guys. Drive safe. And Ford HD.

Speaker B: Good afternoon to the Frisco Station from nr. 17. November Romeo 7 Golf. Las Vegas, Nevada.
Speaker A: Agafia, 7 Golf, Whiskey Zero. Whiskey, Echo, Bravo. George, here in San Francisco. Just running around on Carla to the lake.
Speaker B: Okay. You down downtown area near the wharf or whereabouts?
Speaker A: Actually, over by city, Hal.
Speaker B: Oh, okay. City hall, but in Vegas, out in Frisco, so. Yeah. Okay, very good. Well, your signal sounds great. You're 100% in on the handheld. Sounds fantastic on Carlos, too.
Speaker A: Good job. I'm sorry. It's like the civic center area of San Francisco, where all the government building is, obviously. Yeah, I'm using a Motorola the R7550 and just running around the city at 4 watts and. Yeah, I've always liked the car system. It's been pretty cool.
Speaker B: Well, no wonder you're making it good on an XPR 7550E. That's quite a machine, Ralph. My buddy here in 70 MD. You got one of those, I think. Threatening to get one myself. Nothing like Motorola, huh?
Speaker A: I don't recommend buying one off of ebay, but you see a lot of discount sellers online and stuff like that. And there's one company called Sunny Communications, and they have pretty good deals on this kind of equipment. I got this radio for 350. And then I got a xtr6550 for 100 and a half. And they're, you know, both digital and analog. So you can do EMR if you're selling clients.
Speaker B: That's fantastic for that price. I mean, maybe they use.
Speaker A: Actually, the XTR was. How do I. The 7550 was a recovery from somebody who bought the radios, but they never used them and they were still doing the box, so. And the six. The 6550, it was used.
Speaker B: Just call Sunny Communications, see if they got any recovery radio. Sounds good to me. I'll be making that call today.
Speaker A: You're based out of.
Speaker B: What is it?
Speaker A: Lakewood, Colorado.
Speaker B: All right, good to know, man. Thank you so much. Yeah. What are you out doing? S. They just running errands or visiting
Speaker A: or vacationing, working or what? I'm catching a repeater right now.
Speaker B: All right, very good. All righty. Well, we'll. We'll catch both handful here, so got to get out all this.
Speaker A: Nr 7G, Whiskey Zero, Whiskey Echo, Bravo. Yeah, 7:3. Great. QSL. Happy to make the acquaintance. And yeah, what I mean by testing the repeater is I'm running around the same range jacket, so it's one that I installed here for a customer a while, so he's having issues and I'm testing anyway. 7:30. Have fun in Vegas. Don't lose all your money.
Speaker B: Yeah, I've been here 32 years. If I was a gambler, I'd be broke by now. But. Yeah, no, none of that stuff for me. No interest. So. All right, take care. NR7G. Good day.
Speaker A: Whiskey. They're always.

Speaker A: W6lnd. Good afternoon,
Speaker B: Jeremy.
Speaker A: Good afternoon. How are you? I'm coming in via All Star from Reno.
Speaker B: That is great. Great sounding also. I'm amazed.
Speaker A: Yeah, I figured I'd try it, see what it sounded like, see if anybody answered. I'm using my phone, using the phone app, so that's good to hear. This sounding okay.
Speaker B: Yes, it is, and the timing is fantastic. Also on the drop key. So, hey, when we get a chance, can we get together so I can get it set up?
Speaker A: Absolutely. I need to bring that radio down. May have some time Sunday or Saturday. I'll let you know.
Speaker B: Yes, that'd be great, Jeremy. Both days. This weekend, I don't have anything planned except for taking stuff, you know, doing stuff here at the qth. Pending weather. Hope to do some antenna work.
Speaker A: Okay, I'll reach out to you. I should be home this evening. I had to bring my father over for a medical appointment over here. So we're coming home tonight, obviously.
Speaker B: Roger that. Yeah. You guys have a safe trip and a blessed evening, and I'll be talking to you later. Kf6obi.
Speaker A: All right, mike, you have a good afternoon. Kf6obiw6lnd73.
Kb1nda mobile.
Speaker A: N6lai85.
Speaker B: 6 Al Aoi. Is that correct? This is KB1 NDE.
Speaker A: N N6 Lai.
Speaker B: Okay, N6 Lai. This is KB1 NDE. Name here is David. Southbound on 70 heading to Rancho Cordova today.
Speaker A: Hi, Dave. David. I'm headed down there too. Yeah, I'm one of the guys that catches in call.
Speaker B: Yeah, it sometimes happens. My call's kind of hard with the November Delta Echo thing. Sometimes it messes people up.
Speaker A: Just hard to remember.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm headed down to pick up some computers that I had serviced down there for. Computers that actually are for a simulator. Like a airplane simulator.
Speaker A: WE six a X N repeater. Oh yeah. I used to have a good one, a slip program, but it got old.
Speaker B: Yeah, these are kind of older computers and I'm trying to. I made sure they're working right. The precision simulator place. They're old but they work. The guy says you can't really upgrade the hardware, but at least we can get them back running again and make the simulator work. It hasn't worked in a long time. It actually belongs to the Aerostem Academy and I'm a volunteer for the Sutter County Sheriff Aero Squadron. We got them serviced down there. So we can sit some kids down on it or we can actually fly real instruments and get log time in our logbooks. Oh, cool.
Speaker A: I used to train down at Natomas and now Natomas is gone.
Speaker B: I remember that old airport. It got buildings there now or houses or something.
Speaker A: Oh yeah, lots of houses.
Speaker B: Two story houses. I never landed there, unfortunately. A little all around this area, but I never had a reason to stop. But it was a nice little airport
Speaker A: that was our home base and I never did quite finish my license, but I learned a lot there.
Speaker B: I trained in Sutter County. I had a plane with my father and we used to fly out of there. My instructor was actually a right seat pilot in a B17. We could hear really well. He was mostly red lipped, but he was an excellent instructor, at least for the way we fit together in the cockpit.
Speaker A: Oh, that's cool. We used to know one of the guys that was in a fortress once, you know,
Speaker B: what do you call it?
Speaker A: I forgot what?
Speaker B: B17 Fortress. That's right.
Speaker A: Sit.
Speaker B: He actually crashed and had to. Well, he crashed in Switzerland. He got shot up pretty good and ended up crashing in Switzerland. He ended up back flying again and he says that one of the first bombing runs in the Germany. He told me that they couldn't get an engine started. Luckily he said, oh really? He was supposed to Fly the slot. And they didn't want to fly the slot. I don't know. A lot of planes broke down. I think during that period. Things were so different then.
Speaker A: I like listening to guys stories when they, you know.
Speaker B: We used to have the guy in
Speaker A: the club that used to teach them. I can't think of what it was.
Speaker B: He used to be up there. Used to be.
Speaker A: And all kinds of stores,
Speaker B: good stories. The one thing I remember about him is if that engine ever quit, he would get. He knew how to get that airplane where we needed to be. Taught me a lot how to get that thing, you know, maximizing the scent rate, I guess. Keep the speed up and get where you needed to go. And get it right down in the middle of a Runway that I thought we'd never make. Wow. Hey.
Speaker A: I landed in the Thomas finally. My girlfriend showed me where the airport was.
Speaker B: It's a park now.
Speaker A: Just a park. And there's nothing around there except for buildings.
Speaker B: Darn. Yeah, there's a lot of airports like that have disappeared. The one on the short field thing over. I think it was called Lakeport. It was over at Clear Lake. And I used to go over there, practice short field landings and takeoffs because the. The examiner was at the Lampson field. Clear Lake, Lampson Field. And he might take you in there if you're. If you're struggling or something. Got my license over at Clear Lake.
Speaker A: Oh, well, that's cool. I remember that.
Speaker B: Clear.
Speaker A: Yeah. What's it called?
Speaker B: It was the field, I think it's called. Yeah, they have a restaurant there now. Some guys fly over from my squadron and have lunch sometimes.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah? Well, I was working down in Sacramento, Richards Boulevard. And later on I transferred Grass Valley.
Speaker B: And then I end up retiring.
Speaker A: Okay.
Speaker B: You up in Grass Valley now?
Speaker A: No, no, I live down in Oliver, so I'm going to Rio Linda today. Okay, that's cool.
Speaker B: I have a friend that lives kind of next to the airport down there. You can actually watch the planes from her house taking off and landing all the time. It's fun. And of course, I'm also retired Coast Guard. And the air station's there. My sons are both in the Coast Guard now, and they used to go down there and exercise with them before they went into boot camp. Run around the actual airport down by the Runway. Well, that sounds cool. I used to park over there. I used to email the OOD and land there when my sons were young. And we'd go to the Air Museum. Nice. Nice place to go.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah, we. We went a Couple of months ago, we went there and looking around at things and there was like a kite that they used to put it up on a hill over the. Almost toward the Bay Area. And they used to let this big kite, had a tether and it generated power.
Speaker B: Boy, that's the best for the time, huh? That's pretty neat.
Speaker A: Well, now it's up on the roof. If you ever go back there, it's. Yeah, it's mounted up on the roof there, inside on the roof, and it's pretty cool. I sit there for a long time
Speaker B: just reading about it. Check it out. Yeah. I had this idea one time having buoys when I was in the Coast Guard. You could make them out of plastic and the wave action would charge the battery on board. I had the idea to do that and had people come and talk to me about it and everything. And never really. Now that the LEDs came, it's a lot easier to maintain power for those lights.
Speaker A: Seems to me like a lot of overkill to build something like.
Speaker B: Yeah, probably was more money than stent sometimes. Yep. See, I'm coming up the housie road. I think
Speaker A: you got a government willing
Speaker B: to pay for it.
Speaker A: Why not?
Speaker B: They drop a line in the water sometimes and drag it along. On a submarine to make power.
Speaker A: Oh, yes. I didn't know that. I worked with a guy that was on the USS Batfish and he was aptopedement.
Speaker B: I had a friend in Maine that he was retired, but he was an engineer on a submarine. He says he worked so much on that submarine that when they pulled in for it, he didn't even get to get off. He said he was underwater for seven years.
Speaker A: He was in the Battle of Midway.
Speaker B: Wow. That's a while ago. That's cool though.
Speaker A: Yeah. I was on the Pamanito checking in out over in San Francisco. And it was pretty much identical to the Batfish.
Speaker B: I guess I used to be stationed in Alameda and kind of went around down there. Friend was on. What do they call that island with the airport there.
Speaker A: I'm not familiar with Alameda, but I used to work down there.
Speaker B: Cool. What I liked about being there is I take my lunch and I'd have a control line airplane in the back of my car. And I'd go fly it by myself over by the airport. And there was a club there and I'd fly that thing around. It was a good time, relaxed me, and then I went back to work.
Speaker A: Well, that sounds like fun. Yeah. All I got is a. I have one. I have an RC plane It's a glider, but it busted it up. I got some drones.
Speaker B: Nice. Nice. I'm the vice president of the Red Barons RC Club at the Wheatland Amphitheater over there. Oh.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah. You're familiar with that one? W E AXM receiver.
Speaker B: This is KB1NE. Yeah, I. I've been flying since I was real little. Got too many planes probably.
Speaker A: Now. I. I gave up my interest in the planes when. Well, the real planes, when I was getting low on money, they were pushing me to, you know, get further.
Speaker B: It's expensive. I remember I was lucky. I went into a partnership. I met this guy at Sutter County Airport. He had this 172. And he's partnered. So my dad and I both be gay partners on it. And that's what I ended up with. My license, it was AN E model 1964. E model. Wow.
Speaker A: I used to. I worked with a guy.
Speaker B: My instructor was a guy that worked
Speaker A: with me in Sacramento. We used to go there for lunch at lunchtime in Natomas, and I was heartbroken when I found out that it was going to.
Speaker B: That kind of takes it away. That's not always fun. But. Yeah, I don't fly right now. I partnered with my dad on the plane for 27 years. Currently without a plane, but I might get another.
Speaker A: That's cool. Maybe you will.
Speaker B: I had wasted a few years ago, and then I was flying a friend once in a while. He's got. You know, it's hard to keep the medical. But now that they have that where you can use your driver's license thing. I haven't heard if he's gotten back in the year, but he used to fly. He just goes around the pattern. Basically owns the plane, but he goes around the pattern a lot. I help him out with keeping the tires full and things like that.
Speaker A: Oh, yeah, that's right. You know, all you need is a driver's license for a. I was trying to get the sports license, and then they moved it up and then they
Speaker B: had the one with the driver's license.
Speaker A: And I never did go back for it.
Speaker B: Check on it. It might be easier for me to go that route. Check on it.
Speaker A: Got some new stuff now. They got the. I just watched a video this morning about a drone. That guy just takes it flies around Macau pasture and then lands it.
Speaker B: Funny. Yeah, I have a. I have a drone and I fly it once in a while just to make sure it still flies small. DJI Navigator. Take a couple pictures of myself, Put it away for another six months.
Speaker A: This time I Saw it that held a person in it.
Speaker B: Well, that's neat.
Speaker A: Yeah, I used to take, I used to take mine out at work lunchtime and I would take my little drone and flying up, take a picture of myself.
Speaker B: One time I drove all the way to the coast and I got some really good pictures. But the state parks are getting kind of mean about drones flying around, so I really haven't gone back.
Speaker A: I don't blame you.
Speaker B: Now I wonder how far this road Peter goes. I really haven't ever kept it on all the way down. I'm all the way down to real ended now.
Speaker A: We got, we got the Butte one and then we got A, A1 at the Yuba City Airport. It's a low level.
Speaker B: It doesn't,
Speaker A: it gets, you get about when you get out of the county, it, you can't, can't hit after that
Speaker B: I talked to old Dave over there all the time. Wa1ner all the time. He's an old buddy. He used to come out the airport and I guess Mike had the repeater there and he'd visit with me when I was working on the plane With Mike.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, he's a friend of mine too. I used to hang around with him
Speaker B: too too, in the Yuba Sutter Club, the amateur Ryu club. What was that?
Speaker A: Yeah, I, I, I was one of the early members and then I quit for a while and then I went back.
Speaker B: Okay. I was there at the last meeting sitting with Dave and they didn't have a raffle last time I got, kept winning, but that's okay. I'm gonna wait for the next one.
Speaker A: I think my club dues expired.
Speaker B: That happened, that happened to me. I've been in and out of it. I've even been a volunteer examiner. I just, I'm too busy. I drive a semi and that doesn't really help.
Speaker A: Yeah, I got a general class license. I did, But I kept my encode because I just like it.
Speaker B: And.
Speaker A: I basically just talk on this one, the local one and the, I call it the local one, the one that's down the street from Davis and the Butte. But I, I used to work with Dave Gardner.
Speaker B: Wow, that's cool. That's really cool. I, I've made a lot of friends with the radio, especially when I was in the coast car.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's a good hobby. I kept it as a hobby after I retired because I used to fix two ways, you know, GE's, motorolas, things like that. And I'm 70 now, so I just
Speaker B: kind of got tired of working. I was lucky. When I was in the Coast Guard my skippers on the boat would let me call in like on a Saturday, like a little morale thing. I could be underway in the Bahamas and on a Saturday I could be call and talk to entire coasties out there on sea. It was really fun to do.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, I, I got an eight shift rig at home but I don't use it very often. But I'm planning to do it.
Speaker B: Cool. I, I had an old ya101e and I really missed that old boat anchor. I don't know why I liked it, but I did. It was kind of fun setting it up. I set it up on the ship. I set it up in my houses that I lived in and lived in Maine and all over Alaska and everything. One day it just decided to give up on me. It was old and never really got down to fixing it. So I sold it. I had a mark, the mark 2G, the ICOM 706 thing. I have one of those with the filters and everything. That was a good radio and it was, I ran digital on it and everything but I, I, I don't know, I wasn't working so I, somebody wanted it, I sold it and now I need a new one again. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker A: What was it going to say?
Speaker B: Make antennas. I make all kinds of different size antennas.
Speaker A: You live up here?
Speaker B: Yeah, I live up in Yuba City.
Speaker A: Okay. I grew up in Yuba City. My, my daughter lives there now.
Speaker B: She's
Speaker A: where, she lives at where the used to have a shooting.
On battery at 29, ON AC power at 12:9. Battery announcement at 29 enabled.
Speaker A: Range and gets to go fishing out
Speaker B: there and doing stuff.
Speaker A: That's all houses in there now.
Speaker C: I grew up there too and then
Speaker D: left for 22 years and came back because I had twin sons out up there and they all left. It happened.
Speaker C: Yeah.
Speaker A: I got three grandkids. My granddaughter is 18, she's about to grow graduate high school and my grandson
Speaker D: is about to
Speaker A: graduate into high school.
Speaker C: That's wonderful.
Speaker D: That would be fun to attend. Is it that Cuba City High or the other one? I forget the other one.
Speaker A: She went to Solder. I don't know why they should etc for. I guess because my son in law went there.
Speaker C: Okay.
Speaker D: All my nephews nieces up there. That's where they used to have the field day. I used to go to that too.
Speaker A: I don't know what River Valley is like. Is it River Valley High School?
Speaker E: W, E, Z, A, X A and receiver.
Speaker D: Valley High. My daughters went there too. I have four kids.
Speaker A: I think they liked it.
Speaker D: It was not a challenge for them at all. Coming from other states they really excelled in school.
Speaker C: It was pretty easy for.
Speaker A: Yeah, I only had two, her and my son. I live with my son. My wife died this last year.
Speaker D: Sorry to hear that. And I'm sure that life's been different for you. My condolences on that. But it's life.
Speaker A: It's hard.
Speaker D: Oh yeah. An adjustment.
Speaker A: Her heart just gave out on her about a month a year ago. It was a year ago.
Speaker D: It's a hard one.
Speaker A: Well, she got to a point where she just couldn't get any better. She was sick and sick all the time. She was in dialysis and everything was wrong with her.
Speaker D: Yeah. Well, I'm all the way down to Richard. I don't know how far this repeater goes on. I've never actually talked on it this long. But thank you for being in there.
Speaker A: Welcome. I. I used to use it down there all the time.
Speaker C: Awesome.
Speaker D: One of those compact antennas, those little short ones. Compact antenna, only about 8 inches tall. I got a mag mount on my truck.
Speaker A: I don't feel like I don't like drilling holes.
Speaker D: Okay. I thought I'd try it because my truck's kind of tall and I thought well maybe I better get something that doesn't hit trees. Yeah.
Speaker A: Mine's a midsize Nissan. I kind of like it sometimes it looks small around other trucks. Thinking man, God, this one looks like a puppy.
Speaker D: Okay.
Speaker A: Mine's a mid size. It's four, you know. Does it handle five people?
Speaker D: Wow, that's cool. Yeah, mine. Mine's A Denali. It's lifted and everything. I got it to go capping overlanding with my brother in law and my sister.
Speaker A: Yeah, mine's a lot of fun. I got a car too.
Speaker D: It's going to have to go in
Speaker A: for smog and probably next week. Confusions and that stupid Ford company just put the law in it.
Speaker D: Interesting. Yeah, this one's got the.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm at the bank. I gotta jump out of here just for a minute. If you're still here, I'll talk to you some more.
Speaker C: Hey, good talking to you.
Speaker D: For the amount of time I'll. I'm definitely going to be coming back in a little while so probably a couple hours stop at RC country and browse around. So I'll be back out here on a couple hours from now. Good luck with the club and.
Speaker A: All right, let me catch you a little later then. And probably will before I get down here from my house. It only takes what, 35, 40 minutes to get there.
Speaker D: All right, I'll look for you for the cuso. And this is KV1 Nava 73.
Speaker A: Good to talk to you too. This is N6 Lai and Sim 3.
Speaker B: I'll say hi and bye to you, Jerry. WD6AXM. N6lai wd6x.
Speaker D: Because I was going underneath the bridge, but this is Cap. I think he went into the bank.
Speaker B: Boy, he sure got out of there in a hurry then. Good afternoon. I've been listening to you guys.
Speaker E: Your call again,
Speaker B: WD6AXM.
Speaker D: Okay, WD6AXM. Thank you. Yeah, I'm just cruising down, pick up some stuff, go to RC Country.
Speaker B: Oh, very good. Well, I, I put 40, I got 40 hours or better in a Cessna 150. But then it got too expensive and I decided to get married.
Speaker D: Yeah, I've had these big long breaks
Speaker C: because of being married and stuff. Yeah.
Speaker B: Yeah, and that with the, with the Air Force too. Put some space in the time that, you know, in the flying time there between sessions. So.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: But had fun with it and I can say I did it.
Speaker C: Cool.
Speaker D: Did you fly in the airplane? I sometimes fly at the Beale. I've done in the Beale Aeroplane.
Speaker B: Yeah, I did it through the Veal Aero Club. Yeah.
Speaker A: Many many years ago.
Speaker D: Used to have a really nice hawk XP. I remember this hawk XP back in the late 80s, early 90s. I used to like flying around in that thing.
Speaker B: Yeah. The particular planes I was flying were out. Located at Yuba County Airport. We still had the alert facility was still active at the time. I was out There.
Speaker C: That's cool.
Speaker D: I have lots of friends out there. I used to work for Honeycutt Aviation out there. Spent a lot of time in the sun working on planes. But it was fun,
Speaker B: Roger. Well, I was in ground radio and some other electronic stuff. But I had fun.
Speaker D: I've flown a lot of different planes over the years.
Speaker B: Yeah, Roger that. All righty. Well, right now we've got a little bit of power line noise going on up there on the hill on the butte. And it sort of shortened the range on talk in. So you've got getting a bit on the noisy side at the moment. But normally reading the Stockton is usually a good bet.
Speaker D: Well, that's awesome. Yeah. Appreciate you maintaining that thing. It's an awesome repeater.
Speaker B: Well, thank you. Appreciate that. All right, I'll let you get back to it there. I'm back to pulling weeds. I'm retired now, too. I used to fix radios. WD6A XM.
Speaker D: Thank you. And I'll be back this way in a few hours. Enoy the rest of.
Speaker A: I'm gonna load up the frequency.
Speaker E: Dave? Dave and David.
Speaker B: WA1N hello?
Speaker A: Dave?
Speaker E: David?
Speaker C: Hello? David
Speaker E: down there. David
Speaker D: down in Sacramento again, picking up the computer.
Speaker E: I think I heard you earlier today on the other. On the other repeater. Did I or didn't I?
Speaker D: You heard me. I was trying to say hello when I was leaving.
Speaker E: Okay. I thought I did. I was in the other room and I was busy at the time, so I couldn't get to the radio,
Speaker D: But. Glad you're in there. Nice day.
Speaker E: Where you at now? Where you at now, David?
Speaker D: 65th Street, Sacramento. Highway 50.
Speaker E: You're quite a ways down there then. Okay. Yeah, Like David said, they've got little power line noise up on the hill
Speaker A: and it's causing people out a little further.
Speaker E: A little static in the radio now. Okay, I'll let you go so you can go do what you're doing down there. I guess you're gonna go play airplane or something. We'll see you later. We'll practice. Probably catch you on the way back. W E6A X N repeater.
Speaker D: All right, Dave? Yeah, we'll look for you the other side. KB1ND clear.
Speaker E: Okay, see you later.
Speaker B: WA180R.
Speaker A: 6 lai85.
Speaker B: I think David's still out there. XM might have to holler at him to get him back over to the radio.
Speaker A: WA1N ER okay, well I'll stay here. I'll get out of range the other one real fast. As soon as I get down at Plymouth Lake, it's gone.
Speaker B: You headed out of town?
Speaker A: I'm gonna go see my girl today.
Speaker B: Okay, give him a holler. Neva want in here. I gotta go take care of something. Did you hear about.
Speaker A: Well real quick, did you hear about a swap Lincoln this weekend or.
Speaker B: Wrong. No. Loomis. I thought.
Speaker A: Was it Loomis? Okay,
Speaker B: Don't remember the date. I think it's this month. I'm sure.
Speaker A: Yeah, I was going to take her down a short round, Explain myself a little bit so she wouldn't think I'm so crazy. On my. My Facebook won't let me talk to Paula.
Speaker B: What? What? My. My TV was too loud.
Speaker A: What? They won't let me. I think Paula's got me blocked. My Facebook won't type to her. I was gon about frames for my glasses because my glasses broke.
Speaker B: Oh, you're talking about my daughter. Oh, I. I think she's at work. Well, chances are her phone's not on her. Her own phone. Her private phone is probably not on.
Speaker A: Nothing urgent. I got a taped together. They're holding out just fine.
Speaker B: You're trying you. You were trying to get a hold of her about your glasses.
Speaker A: Just tell her I was. I'm looking for some frames. All he needs frames for these.
Speaker B: Sure she's got them?
Speaker A: She does. I might have to join back at Sam's. I much prefer to work with her on that.
Speaker B: She doesn't know what she's doing.
Speaker A: Oh, I used to be member both.
Speaker B: Waiting for that oldest one to show up right now. She said she was coming over but she hadn't showed up yet.
Speaker A: Okay. Going to kung fu class the other night some crazy person was behind me and they were laying on their horn and I just, you know, I just. I have to make a quick turn and park, you know, over by the donut place and this person. So I decided to go around and whoever it was sit there and honking at me the whole time.
Speaker B: Probably somebody you knew.
Speaker A: No, I don't think so. I think they wanted to humiliate me.
Speaker B: Humiliate? Well, she's the wrong person. You get out and karate chop them.
Speaker A: Well, you know when they're behind you, if they're too close, you can't turn or move around. Do anything, especially. Especially if they're laying on their horn like that. And so I just didn't feel like going around, so I wouldn't just cut over. They were just making a missed spectacle of himself.
Speaker B: You know, old people get a lot of horn honking at them anymore. That's what happens when you get old.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, you know, it makes me very angry when they do that. I don't like that. Another one on Power Line Road, and he come rushing up and almost hit. Not hit me, but he was tailgating me. And then they were just laying on his horn, you know,
Speaker B: Need to pull over real quick. Jump out with your karate outfit on, and me and Tyu is going to your class. Jump out with your karate outfit and say kung fu. Say kung fu or something. I don't know what you say, Adam, when you're. When you're old and you got a karate outfit on.
Speaker A: I don't.
Speaker B: I don't know if they just drive by and laugh or what. I don't know what they would do.
Speaker A: Say boards. Don't kick back. I got a shirt that says. It says, never underestimate an old man that knows kung fu. You know, this is a joke. You know, I spent all those years in there learning karate, you know, starting over. You know, You ought to see the mountains today. They're just all covered with snow.
Speaker B: I didn't do any of that kung fu karate stuff. I just went down to the local shop downtown and got me one of them pieces of metal with a revolving cylinder in it.
Speaker A: I almost did that myself, but I thought, well, I don't get in trouble. They have a new one now. It's called a burna launcher. And what it does is it shoots tear gas out.
To go find out where the heck this My granddaughter was here. Now I got to go find out where my oldest daughter's at. People supposed to be showing up, but didn't show up yet, so I got to go check on them. Jerry. Okay, well, tell her I said hello. Tell her you said hi. W thanks. Is n6lai a1 ner clear?
Then. 6 Lai, does anybody know about the ham swap down in Loomis tomorrow?
Speaker A: How do you copy? Over.
Speaker B: All right, Pete, how are you doing today, man?
Speaker A: Well, you know, everybody's been telling me my signal is scratchy and I'll, you know, weird.
Speaker B: That's interesting cuz I'm copying you just fine. Full sliding.
Speaker A: Well, great. You're sounding good. Oh, maybe it was the rain the other day or something, I don't know. But you know, I've got a beam with the rotor. Maybe I just didn't have my, what do you call it? Azimuth comment. Hey, Good afternoon guys.
Speaker C: WD6AXM. Probably what's happening is we're experiencing some intermittent power line noise up there at the site. There's some 12kV lines that run between the sights there and every once in a while something comes a little loose and it starts arcing and sparking and it comes and goes and I think that's what probably people are talking about years.
Speaker A: Hey, did I hear you correctly? Did you say they start argument barking?
Speaker C: My southern accent coming out arcing and sparking.
Speaker A: Well, arguments for parking kind of sounds like something a young couple would do.
Speaker C: Well, we don't discuss those kind of things here. But anyway, I just thought I'd throw that in there. It's possibly if you're using a low powered setup or if you're on a beam antenna pointed the wrong way. Yeah, you're going to have issues. Good afternoon, Matt.
Speaker B: How you doing, Dave? It's been a while.
Speaker C: It has.
Speaker A: How you doing?
Speaker B: Actually pretty good. Pretty active on HF. Actually turn on 2 meters every once in a while. It's nice that we finally have sunspots facing earth. So propagation's been getting a little bit better. I was on 10 meters a little bit ago and you know, I was hearing propagation definitely starting to roll back in and it's been great even you're a little bit on 15 meters and yeah, bands are starting to finally open up again. So it's been good. I've been okay. How are you doing, Dave?
Speaker A: Oh, doing okay.
Speaker C: Trying to stay out of trouble. Yeah, I was 6 meter. I used to work 6 meter sideband. In fact that's where I first started out at and down there in the Mississippi, Florida, the east coast, these openings out to the west coast and stuff and even further kind of funny but you know, it doesn't happen all the time.
Speaker B: Yeah, I've been meaning to want to get on to 6 meters. Actually my mobile setup right now is actually good for 6 and 2 meters. It's just I only have a 2 meter rig in my truck. Eventually I'm going to get a 6 meter and put it in. But it's not. Not right at the moment. I'm trying to save up some money right now. But, yeah, six meters is actually pretty neat. I haven't gotten around to actually, you know, getting a setup that can do it.
Speaker A: Yeah, Roger.
Speaker C: All right, I'll let you get back to it there. I just thought I'd throw that in there because, you know, some of the stations will experience that. Get some of that hardware comes loose up there and it. It'll start doing funny things, making funny noises, so. All right, carry on. WD6AXM,
Speaker A: I said you were on there saying hi to me.
Speaker C: Well, I was, but you slammed the door pretty fast. Yes, I did.
Speaker A: I was at the bank. You know, the bank is.
Speaker C: Some other guys were carrying on here, so let them get back to it.
Speaker A: But.
Speaker C: Yeah, Jerry, I'll catch up with you in a little bit.
Speaker B: Don't.
Speaker C: WD6AXM, you sure will.
Speaker A: Talk to you later. I'm going. Going to Rio Linda.
Speaker B: I'm going to say 7:3 for now because I just got destinated. It's nice talking to you guys again. This is KN6WNR73.
Speaker A: Six lei mobile.

Speaker A: N6LAI mobile.
Speaker B: Jerry, this is K. N6WNR.
Speaker A: Hey, there you are. How's my signal?
Speaker B: You're almost full quieting. It's all good. How you been? It's been a long time since I've talked to you. Probably about six months or more. How many. How is everything going?
Speaker A: Well, something I was fooling around with my radio somehow got it unprogrammed and couldn't get it back together. But it finally got it fixed.
Speaker B: To hear that, you know, it's been a while. Got to play catch up. Yeah, I've been on HF mostly, so I haven't really been on 2 meters. So I haven't really heard from you in a while.
Speaker A: Oh, that's great. I got a new HF antenna. I just haven't put it up yet. Vertical antenna. I thought, well, I don't have a whole lot of property, you know, So I had 5 RV that it just kind of. I didn't have a whole lot of anchors there. Worked, but it just kind of did. It kind of inverted dipole kind of thing going on. The whole lake shit up. From a friend of mine, Willie's wife, and she died and I felt bad, so I just. He just. She had just bought it for him, so I. I bought it off her.
Speaker B: Okay. Are you getting in? Are you moving away from the repeater or something? Because you are kind of going in and out of the repeater at this point. You were more clear earlier.
Speaker A: Oh, w. Alberta coastal. Yeah, I'm in Alberta right now. I'm going to Rio Linda.
Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, because your signal was dropping in and out there for a second, but yeah, you were more clear at the last bit of that.
Speaker A: So.
Speaker B: Anything else new?
Speaker A: They said. They just saying that there was some interference up on the repeater. I don't know if that pertains to meeting
Speaker B: from loose power line wires. It happens. That's not the first time I've heard of that happening. It's actually kind of common, actually. I've heard about that happening to more than one repeater site. It happens. It gets thick. It's okay.
Speaker A: Yeah, I used to work up there on the butte and well, we've had all kinds of weird problems over the years.
Speaker B: I don't know. That must have been a lot of fun.
Speaker A: That's what I did for a living and so did Dave, and we've been in contact for quite a while.
Speaker B: I always kind of wanted to work for the state doing radio too. I mean, I've applied for it, but I never got anything back. I Mean, hopefully someday, you know, I will most likely be getting my bachelor's in electrical engineering, probably from Chico State. I'm really considering going back to school for it. Just because I'm so passionate about radio that I think it'd probably be best that I do.
Speaker A: That'll help you get in there. I've worked in an industry for about 10, 10 years before I got home to state and I. State was a great job. I love that job. I used to go up to trucking a lot.
Speaker B: I heard you guys really go all up and down the state, which is kind of cool too, you know. And I think that'd be fun, you know, working on radio equipment, going around the different things, you know, because I like going up and down the state and cool to be able to do that for work too, you know, going up to different repeater sites and stuff. I think that'd be fun.
Speaker A: I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Yeah, I started from ground up just from one job to another.
Speaker B: Must have been quite an experience. How long were you doing it again? I remember you telling me, I just, I don't know why I forgot about 30 years.
Speaker A: And when I retired they took one one year away. They go, why are you taking one year around? I said, because. Because you have to put in a year first.
Speaker B: Okay, yeah, maybe someday I' getting into that. I. I got to figure something out because I am 30 at the end
Speaker A: of the month so I can tell you about it or tell you to talk to or something. It has changed. Anyway. My wife died last year, about a year ago and the her said that they were paying her was the class B retirement. And I, because I didn't tell them that. She died, they just kept paying it I guess. But that's funny though. They stopped the check cuz she was getting a check. But I guess, I don't know. They're so screwy.
Speaker B: A little bit in and out there.
Speaker A: I don't.
Speaker B: I. I kind of copied it, but I kind of understand what you were.
Speaker A: Like.
Speaker B: I lost gary. A and six wmr monitoring.

Coming.
Speaker A: Hey, go ahead John. Into the community.
Speaker B: How's the spot?
Speaker A: Pretty good. I mean day one, right? I think they open around here so all the typical players are here. HRO Flex Radio. Those guys. Good turnout. Walked outside and saw the swaps up a little bit. Some fairly good deals. Like anything else you got to shop around.
Speaker B: Cool. Is it well attended? A lot of people?
Speaker A: Yeah, I would say so. At least as much as last year. Like I said, tomorrow is probably going to be a lot busier. Today's like a half a day and it goes and shows on Sunday. But I was hoping to pick up that new Kenwood tribander. I talked to the HRO guys and they just admitted the effort to see for type acceptance and they haven't announced the price to the. The production date yet for it or availability date for it yet. So not out. They say maybe by. Maybe by Dayton hopefully. But I think they announced that they showed that thing in Dayton last year. So it's been a while.
Speaker B: Yeah. That's a tri down mobile, right?
Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. T220 440G star analog and APRs built into it. GPS. It's got everything. I'm sure it's going to be. It's going to be expensive I would imagine probably 800 bucks or so. I'm guessing.
Speaker B: I don't know.
Speaker A: But yeah, you can catch me now. I'm anxious to get rid of that icon DSTAR radio I've got in the Jeep and I'll replace it with this. You know I've got that Kenwood D74 on Keystar. The audio just sounds really, really good on it. So I mean they're advertising. This thing is basically having the same audio processing and quality of the D74. So it's encouraging.
Speaker B: Yeah. Could you imagine if that has DMR built into dmr? Could you imagine?
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah that'd be cool. You know that's what the radio I'm using now. This POC radio does all that, does Dstar DMR6 infusion T25 and everything. But I run a TV switch to do it. But yeah, that's, it's cool. And I haven't seen, I haven't seen Tony here. He was here last year, Tony Marson. And I was, I was thinking maybe I'd see some shark RFS around here. Know those, those little mike E things. I was, I thought maybe I'd see some of those flying around here but I haven't seen any yet. But I don't know if HRO sells those things. Or you have to get them direct from the vendor overseas.
Speaker B: Yeah, I think overseas I, I think you have to order from whatever. I, I've talked to a few people on to a few people on. And it's fantastic. The audio is great and it reads a rave review so. That's awesome.
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, I believe it's saying. I mean I talk to people on it so yeah, I share your sentiment. I got the open spot 3 and when this thing first came out it didn't have all stars so I was kind of. I'm not interested. But I guess the latest, the latest firmware Revision for the MyD allows you to do All Star also. So it's kind of everything in one little box. That's pretty compelling. I wish it had a SIM card tray in it so you could just go directly to cellular. But it's only WI fi. But nowadays you probably do the same thing I do.
Speaker B: You just turn your phone into a hotspot. Yeah, I'm getting ready to deploy a couple of, a couple of cameras. Arlo cameras they have take a LC4G SIM cards and cameras. They have AI detection that you know, sensors vehicles, certain breeds of animals and differentiate, you know, people and everything. So I'm going to put those up on my top property because I got a heavy airport going on right now. They're going crazy building roads, the house pad and everything. That started off Monday. So they've got a couple of pieces of heavy equipment there. Operators and water trucks. Yeah. So that thing that probably come along. Great wait to get up there and get a tower up. Trust me, it's gonna be be. I'm going to have a nice setup up there.
Speaker A: Yeah, I know you talked about that. I'm envious man. This sounds fantastic. You're probably going to have a stupid low noise for too. That's fantastic. Yeah, we'll have to. We'll have. Lee and I have been talking about that. We're talking about you on the way down here but getting you set up with an all star note whenever you're ready for it, you just hook into our, hook into our server in the, in the Vulture server and get on, get it on the network if you're up for it.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, 100. Yeah, I'm gonna put up a repeater. I'll probably do like a 60 foot power so I can shoot, you know with a decent vertical. So I could shoot over the little hills and is directly coverage into Spring Creek town itself. You know, people they'll deal with as well. I won't have any coverage on the other side of Elo Hills, but anybody in that valley around there, Rapid Lake? You know, there's a lot, you know, campers and stuff like that go through state park, you know, state recreation area. So there's a definite. Definitely people around there. It'll. It'll definitely have to be from time to time, but it'll be just right gearing up, you know, I'll have it up on a. Like a little hill, a little hill in the back of my property and just put some decent, you know, hygiene and go buy a stage or station glass or something like that. Just do it right, you know.
Speaker A: Yeah, do sell some bipolar. That'd be great too. Give you a nice, nice fat pattern. Universal uniform pattern, but okay. All right, man. Well, thanks for the shout, John. John's here, nswr. So he and I are sitting here talking to him and catching up. So I'll talk to you later. We'll be here. Probably going to head back to town about mid. Mid morning on Sunday. I would imagine so. Yeah, it's one of these days jobs that try to make it down here. It's a decent event. A lot of, lot of socializing. Matter of fact, I saw Frank and Linda here a bit ago and Frank's right. Yeah, we got to drive 5 hours to see each other.
Speaker B: That's really hilarious. Anyway, we'll enjoy it. Enjoy it and yeah, I mean, maybe by next year things will calm down and make our priority priority. Very good. Enjoy your afternoon and we'll see when you get back. Take care, 73. Enjoy the show. Good luck. NR7G, Las Vegas.
Speaker A: All right, John. Yeah, take care.

Speaker A: Wv6aew, ks6auq. 6A UQ, WB6AEW. Good afternoon. I just thinking about you. I was wondering where you guys were at. Saw you guys earlier when you were still coming up Lost Hills. So saw you were in Sacramento. Figured maybe he's close enough to hit this repeater yet. Yeah, just leaving Sacramento and about to pick up the turn off to Yuba City. Okay, fantastic. I'm shooting north on 505 right now. I'm about, about an hour from home. So you guys will probably get there just shortly before I do. Yep, just crossing the Sutter county line. Okay, perfect. Well, I guess how was the drive so far? Well, it hasn't been too bad. Traffic hasn't been too bad. Got us hung up a little bit in Stockton but I think that's the way it always is. Yeah, it's pretty much a daily occurrence if not hourly occurrence. Yeah, the weather's been good. It was getting to be warm when we left home. Checked into the 40 meter net around Santa Paula and listened to them all the way up until they were done about oh, 9:30 or so. Checked in up to 8:30 and it's been pretty good. Oh, that's good. Yeah, I checked on you guys about 11 and you were says Lost Hills. My guess is you were probably trying to make Harris Ranch about noon
Speaker B: w e6 a s n repeater.
Speaker A: We stopped at Santa Nella for gas and had my bony sandw well, Sanonel is another good stop along the way like stop at Loves. Understood. Well, I am cruising to home so I should see you guys there. Okay son, thank you so much. I'll be listening here for a little bit. K6A UQ mobile, WB6AEW mobile. Okay, sounds good dad. I'll see you guys in a little while. WB6AEW, Ka6Auq coming up to 16 Esparto.

Speaker A: This is K06 Lum testing mobile unit to the Carla repeater system. Testing again. Access to the Carla repeater system. Anyone available?
Speaker B: System 11, link off. Well, I guess
Speaker C: I'm available. You are making it in lob. Clear.
Speaker A: This is K06L U M. I picked you up as. Just had a little bit of a hard time hearing your call sign. Thanks for the reply. Okay, no problem. I'll
Speaker C: repeat it for you. It's November 6th. Mike Victor Tango, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill area, Northern California. We're about to leave.
Speaker A: Okay, a lot better there. I got your call, son. Thank you so much. Yeah, it's great hearing you down in the Walnut Creek area. I'm up in Chico, north of Sacramento, between there and Reading.
Speaker C: Okay, copy that. Well, you're getting in fine. I'm guessing you're using either 56 or 36 up there. The UHF or VHF one.
Speaker A: Correct. Yeah, it's Station 36. I'm not sure if it's called Station, but yeah, 36 out of Willows is the one I'm accessing currently.
Speaker C: Okay, real good. Well, you sounded fine. Anything else I can help you with?
Speaker A: No, sir. I really appreciate the contact. And let me know that I was able to get onto it just fine.
Speaker C: Okay, sounds good. Literally and figuratively. All right, have yourself a good rest of your day there. Talk to you later. 6M.
Speaker A: All right. Yes, you two, this is ko6l. U m. Clear.
Speaker B: System 19, link up. Kh6ert, kh6ert, k6lp,
Speaker A: K6ert, this is k. Excuse me, kol. Ko6 lum. Could remember my call sign there for a moment.
Speaker C: I can tell you're in there, but you're really, really scratchy. Can't make anything out. K6OB,
Speaker B: it.
Speaker A: Station on 36. New station on 36. This is N6 GRG. I'm on the local PL. I have a PL of 123. Do you have that in your radio abiding center?
Speaker B: This is ko6 lum.
Speaker A: I'm.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm on the local pl for the 36 repeater.
Speaker A: All right. K06L u M man 6 TRT. Sounds like a fairly new colt. How are you doing today? My name is Mike. I'm up and ready.
Speaker B: Hey, Mike. Doing fairly well, thank you. My name is Matt down here in Chico.
Speaker A: Yeah, just.
Speaker B: I learned about the CARLA system of repeaters last week. So trying to make sure that I can get on them and have all my that correctly.
Speaker A: Okay, well, so far you're doing great. And you're of course you're on local now, which means that all those other guys that we were hearing aren't hearing us now. And there's a pretty good local group when they choose to be on, but not a lot. Some of them do not get on very much. However, Kilo November 6th, Michael kilo gets is on here on local and myself n6trg and maybe a few others here and there. There's a fellow over in near Yuba City that gets on every once in a while. So it's a pretty good group. Go ahead.
Speaker B: It's wonderful to hear. Yeah, I'm new to ham radio, got my technician's license in early January, so I have a mobile unit that I'm talking through right now. I don't have any kind of base station yet home, so getting used to the airwaves and enjoying getting to meet people through that.
Speaker A: All right, well, very good. And a few of the things that you don't have to worry about with local are that you could pretty much transmit immediately after someone calls you or. Or if you want, you can transmit to someone you hear. One of the things about local is that you'll hear this particular beep. Listen to this. Kind of made it happen three times by keying. Another thing about local is that if you transmit on it, you won't hear the linked transmission for 30 seconds. They're muted for 30 seconds, so anything coming from the link will just go away. The link, as you might have noticed, sounds quite a bit different, has different beeps and so forth.
Speaker B: Yeah, I noticed that. Thanks for letting me know about that. I remember reading on the CARLA website about waiting a few seconds if you're talking on all the link repeaters. But thanks for the reminder on that.
Speaker A: Yeah. And one of the reasons we have to do that is some of our repeaters are connected via All Star. And All Star has a delay, a certain amount of delay that makes it so that your first words won't make it to whoever you're talking to. So if you key up and then wait about a second, at least a second, maybe two seconds, then everybody in the system will hear you. And, and right now we have people listening down in the Los Angeles area with a very clear signal because of All Star. We have an All Star setup down in Los Angeles. Now. We also have a fellow, a good friend of mine in Colombia. November 6th. Yeah, November 6th. Kilo, November Echo, insta kn e. Ken is down in Columbia and he's the guy that sets up all the All Star stuff. And, oh, what else? Of course, Mike. No, Kenya. Mike Golfilo, his name is Steve. And he'll. He's on. I like to pity him and say when he gets out of bed, but he's actually on quite often at right around noonish, you know, before or after noon, depending on what he's doing that day. Today probably a pretty busy day because it's not raining and it's beautiful outside. So he's, he's a busy guy trying to get caught up. Go ahead.
Speaker B: Yeah, I think I heard some chatter yesterday around noon. So, yeah, it could have been him.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: I have my son with me right now. He's 10 years old. And I think he kind of blew his mind a little bit when he said that there's people in the LA area that can hear you loud and clear through the All Stars. So we're really enjoying all the conversation about that. Thank you.
Speaker A: Yeah, you'll hear of the CARLA systems that are on All Star. You'll hear Reno, Nevada, that's All Star. An All Star repeater over there. You'll hear Tahoe, where they had that huge disaster and devastating loss of life. We have a couple repeaters that would have somebody in that area where that loss of life Pappas could have actually talked to us. And about the only thing they can't do is talk if there comes with snow from an ambulance avalanche. But other than that, they can talk to us. And then there's just a number of stations all around the Tahoe Reno area. And there's one called 14, that's right on 80, Highway 80. So the thing to do is to go, if you haven't already, is to go to carlaradio.net carlaradio.net which is a very deep site. It has photos of the Repeaters, it has all sorts of things. So the only thing it doesn't do really well is the mapping right now. But it has a lot of info. Go ahead.
Speaker B: Yeah, I've been to the website and you're right, it's a lot of info there. And I haven't made my way through all of it just yet. But certainly look through it and it's a cool system. Like I said. I just learned about it last week
Speaker A: and
Speaker B: getting used to everything. Quite, quite a lot to get used to, but working on it.
Speaker A: Yeah. Do you travel anywhere around California? Do you travel much?
Speaker B: Not too much. Go up Northern California, I think you said you're in Reading, so up that way, Shasta area, and occasionally down to the Central coast. But that's pretty much where we travel mostly.
Speaker A: Okay. Well, we have a system on Shasta, Bali. So if you're at one of the big shopping malls in Reading and you look directly to your west, especially if you have binoculars, you can see our antennas up there on that mountain up there. That's the system 25. And then travel towards Alturas, you'll go through Bernie. And just before you go through Bernie, there's a little summit that you go over. And if you were to take a left there, which don't do it because there's lots of gates and stuff, but if you were to take a left up at that summit, you go towards one of our repeaters up there called System 20. And then there's the repeater at the top. You might call it the northern top of the lake, if you were looking at it on the map. And to the west of Highway 5, called System 13. And currently I believe it's got low power, but with a good radio in your car, you can access. And it's not real strong, but you can hear it in Mount Shasta. And it's just. It's running six watts. When I. Last time I left it, I. I had to set. Turn it down to 6 watts to get it to run at all. Go ahead.
Speaker B: Good to know. Yeah, I planned on programming a bunch of those into my radio if and when we do get to travel. So that would be fun to utilize for sure. Yeah.
Speaker A: And you might hear people talk about weed and that sort of thing. Well, there used to be a second system that we were connected to up there and we're no longer connected to it. And I don't know, sometimes the website's not really updated real well, but some of the system. That goes east all the way to the Nevada Arizona border, I think the town's called Mesquite. Goes all the way east to that. That town.
Speaker B: Oh, that's cool. No, I haven't.
Speaker A: What they decided. They made an agreement with us and if you're a Carla user, then you're automatically okay to use the entire. See, they have. What do they call that, That direction ever. You can have that ready in your radio also. And yeah, as far as the other. All the other repeaters, they don't have a lot of local action like this repeater. This repeater has more local action, I think, than most. Your QSO is down to 15 minutes. However, on 36, even though it's a battery powered site, you can have much longer conversations on local.
Speaker B: So this is Ko6 Lum going clear.
Speaker A: All right, I got you. What was your name again?
Speaker B: Sorry. Matt and Mike.
Speaker A: Right. Be talking to Steve eventually, also soon. So, yeah, just listen for those beats. That way you'll know whether we're on local or link if you hear this beep right here, we're on local. All right, talk to you later. Have a good one. N6GRT. And if he's around, k6 mike golf kilo. I'm sure. N6grt. Well, he did say it was his birthday and he's maybe meeting his mom someplace. So hard to say what's going on. N6 GRT.
