Speaker A: Kb7reo.
Speaker B: Haven't heard him. Kb7reo?
Speaker A: That'd be me.
Speaker B: You're announcing. Who's this. K7idx portable 7.
Speaker A: Yeah. Good afternoon. I'm just sitting in the vehicle here today programming up a heitera radio.
Speaker B: Okay, where are you sitting? And I don't know what a high terra is. That must be a. Maybe it's a Chinese unit.
Speaker A: Yeah, it is. It's their commercial line and name here is Glen. I'm in Las Vegas.
Speaker B: Hi. Okay, Glenn, My name is Bruce, I'm from Washington and I'm camped out here at Stampede Campground north of Fioch or whatever, however it's pronounced.
Speaker A: Oh, very good. So you gonna be a working podus or something or what you up to?
Speaker B: ARRL DX competition just started. I thought I'd dabble a little bit in that maybe. So I'm on my way back from wintering mostly down in southwestern Arizona and Southern California.
Speaker A: Alrighty, very good. Yeah, I know the area pretty well. I know Lee's up there, but he's still around.
Speaker B: Have no idea, Glenn. This is the first I've ever. I did a scan here and this is the only repeater that I really could hear and I'm hearing all kinds of stuff. Obviously it's linked to something else. So I've heard a lot of interesting calls and even out of the area called. So maybe it's even more than linked. Don't know, have no idea. So I just stopped here. I came over from Utah, I was over there. I would do. I dabbled in the 160 meter contest the week before and the week before I forget where the hell I was at. I did the ARRL CW punch. This is the phone start now. So anyway. It's awful cold over here though, Glenn.
Speaker A: Okay, Bruce. Yeah, just info on the system. It's here on what's called Highland Peak. And this is linked into the HXO system a number of repeaters in the Vegas and then it also goes feel All Star linking into the Carla system throughout California. So majority of those sites are in central and northern California. That's where you're hearing.
Speaker B: That's traffic from. But all right.
Speaker A: Yeah, very good. So I take it then it's excc weekend, is that it?
Speaker B: Oh, it's Padika. It's called Arrl DX5 competition and last month was the CW app and this weekend is the phone app. So it's 160 through 10 phone only. And in the ARRL, like worldwide, everybody works everybody. And in this case the world works US and Canada. Okay.
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm not much into contesting. I'll do Field day and Winter Field Day and maybe I'll catch one or two others and kind of help out the people around POTA site. They'll do a little of that. But yeah, I don't get much on air activity on egf, that's for sure. I check into some regular nets and really that's about it. So I think even Lee up there in Pioche. What is this N7NKH? He's probably. Maybe he's listening, I don't know. Or you'll catch him tomorrow. I think he runs with an HF net out of there.
Speaker B: Well, I haven't. I have certain places I need for and so on, but my main interest is DX and Punta, but I do a little bit of all that in between. Okay. Things just started so I'm going to look around and see what's happening there. But it's nice to make your acquaintance there, Glenn, and thanks for the info on the receipter setup. It certainly is coming in here nice and strong and pretty much everybody have been just a great, great signal there and may also the programming of that rig go well. K7IDX, part of O7. Thank you for the QSO.
Speaker A: I appreciate you coming back and good luck on that contest. Pick a lot of contacts and I'm sure you worked the CW end of it last week and my CW speed's not high enough for contesting. I'm probably around seven to ten words a minute. But anyway, have fun with it when I can.
Speaker B: All right.
Speaker A: 73 Good luck.
Speaker B: KB7, Oregon,

Is that you, chris?
Speaker A: Kk 6ccd and 6iw 8.
Speaker B: Good afternoon. Good evening. I'm heading home. I'm assuming you're already home.
Speaker A: Home, Homely. You've heard of those brothers, haven't you?
Speaker C: Hugly and Homely.
Speaker A: Hey, give me your call sign, the last three letters phonetically. Okay.
Speaker B: Victor, Zulu, Delta,
Speaker A: Victor,
Speaker C: vcd.
Speaker A: And I kind of thought it was something like that, but
Speaker B: thank you.
Speaker A: How are you doing?
Speaker B: Glad to be going home this afternoon. Kind of dragged.
Speaker A: Roger, Roger. It was a draggy afternoon. Hey Will, do you see the light at the end of the tunnel? I've got bad news at the oncoming train.
Speaker B: Yeah, cute.
Speaker A: So
Speaker B: this afternoon I'm finishing my 69th year and 364th day on this earth.
Speaker A: Well, you must be wealthy. Is that your trick?
Speaker B: No, I don't think anybody could ever accuse me of having too much money.
Speaker A: Yeah, you know, I'm not real friendly with money. But I think what happens is you really have to love money. You have to develop a relationship, you know, talk to money, get it out of your wallet.
Speaker C: Oh, you're so beautiful.
Speaker A: I love you so much. You know, then the money kind of goes, hey, here's a guy, he's groovy.
Speaker B: Yeah, I guess.
Speaker A: Or you just have to
Speaker B: develop, well, I don't know, an attitude that nobody's as important as you are.
Speaker A: I'm not sure. Oh, that's kind of a low cut. But that's okay.
Speaker C: I get it, really.
Speaker A: But you know, you have to love something. Like I knew this guy who used to. Gold, Japan gold. He loved it. And he would come off of that, the dream, wherever he went, with six cops of gold and he was, you know, paying the rent, food in the fridge. Another guy knew a jeweler, he would go to swap meets and stuff like that and he would buy a little, you know, kids box of toys and there'd be diamonds in there because he loved them and they loved him. How?
Speaker B: I suppose. Oh, well. So, yeah, I. Gee, I. I'm not sure what I'm.
Speaker A: What.
Speaker B: What kind of work? My wife's giving me a birthday party on Sunday afternoon. My kids are coming up and we're having a few friends over, which means it's going to be. I'm going to have a lot of work to do tomorrow to help clean up the house.
Speaker A: Oh God, yeah, you're going to have a party, but just more work. I know what that's like. Just, you know, keep a body, a bottle of Jack Daniels on the side. You know, go nip it every once in a While learn how to say I'm fine. Hey, how you doing? Hello, hello, hello. Amateur radio call sign required. Go ahead.
Speaker C: Anyway, I'll chime in. Happy birthday, Chris. Or early birthday, whatever that is. Ko6bgy. Good hearing you out there, Pete. Maybe we'll talk after Chris leaves. Or maybe he already left. I wasn't paying that close attention.
Speaker B: So that wasn't you, Paul, saying hello, hello, hello?
Speaker C: Oh, heavens no. No, I. When I hear that stuff, I don't even interact with them. Some kids playing games and it's not worth arguing with them. But yeah, happy, happy birthday. I believe I heard you say it today. Or it's coming up. But yeah, definitely enjoy that. And that's one day down from your countdown and one day down from mine. It's just mine's a little bit longer than yours, but. Well, I'm not upset about that. Anyway, I'm gonna go have a glass of scotch and put my feet up and watch the movie and you guys have a good afternoon. Pete, if you're still out there, we can talk for a few minutes. Ko6bgyu
Speaker A: well, thank you. Thank you.
Speaker B: Actually, it's interesting. It was last, last week somebody went and got a cake for one of the. One of the new guys at work, one of the guys that worked there for less than a month and because it was his birthday and today nobody mentioned anything about mine.
Speaker C: That just means you don't, you don't value them as much. That's a pretty low move. But like we always say, just like tips at a restaurant, as a server, you don't expect them. So you're going to value the interactions that you have, the last interactions with your select few of people. You'll enjoy that and cherish that and run with that. Heck with the other people.
Speaker B: Actually, one of the guys that I've worked with for a long, long, long, long time, he went down to Disneyland this latter end of this week, so. But he came in, he came in Wednesday morning and he came in with some donuts for my birthday. So he remembers and I appreciate him for that.
Speaker C: See, that's the thing. Even with Calusa county, like the managers, they'll be selective of who they celebrate birthdays with, but those of us that work with each other, we know when the birthdays are and we respect it and honor each other because we're the one. I mean, just like you and your crew, you guys were the ones doing the Lord's bidding or the employer's bidding, I guess you could say.
Speaker A: So. Yeah, I'm not Going to let it.
Speaker B: Yeah. It doesn't really bother me that they didn't remember the one that I appreciate when they, when nobody remembered when I
Speaker A: was in Egypt, we had a thing
Speaker B: going on that whoever's birthday it was got a chocolate, chocolate piece pie in the face. And the next guy who had a birthday, the previous birthday boy got to shove a pie in his face. And we were leaving, all leaving in March. And so everybody was thinking about that. They weren't thinking about birthdays. So I never got a pie in the face. That's different.
Speaker C: I mean, I know that would have been a nice memento, but getting a pie in the face. Yeah, whatever. Not getting, not being shown respect by your fellows at work. Yeah, that is what it is. While you're. I'm not sure I forget how many days you got, but at the end of your countdown they're gonna be like, oh, gee, we should have got him a cake. And then you're sitting there having a cakewalk, putting your feet up on a Monday morning at 9am not having to do anything and sleep until whenever.
Speaker A: Yes.
Speaker B: 15 working days. 15 working days. And I have just pulled into the driveway.
Speaker C: So I'm going to go check the
Speaker B: mailbox, go inside and maybe I'll watch a video. I don't have any Scott tutoring. All right, gentlemen, we'll talk to both of you later. Have a great weekend.
Speaker A: 73 KK 60 ZD Quit 73 Chris,
Speaker C: great talking to you as always. Enjoy and I'll have the scotch for you. N6IWA you still out there? KO6BTY Happy birthday, Chris.
Speaker A: Good afternoon, Dice guys. WD6X Huh? Boy, that guy's quick on the trigger, huh?
Speaker C: W E6A X N receiver yeah. I believe when Chris when he says he's clear, he is clear. He is. There's smoke on the seat. He is probably 10ft in front of the truck by the time he turns that thing off. Pretty, pretty close. Good to hear you out there, Dave as well. I know you're back to doing what you're doing, but it's good hearing you out there. And Pete, I've shown everybody at work that, that piece of artwork that I got in the mail the other day and they're, they're impressed. I am too. I, I'm trying to think of a way to preserve it so I don't keep smudging it. I mean, I haven't smudged the art piece itself.
Speaker A: It's just.
Speaker C: I don't want to, but I also don't want to not do something right.
Speaker B: I don't, I mean it can't be
Speaker C: right or wrong but I would like to preserve it. Any recommendations?
Speaker A: Yeah, get a frame and you can find them at garage sales and stuff like that real cheap. I Forget the size 8 by 10 common and you know, then you have, you know, you won't get fingerprints or any stuff, any smudges or anything like that. But you know what I think about is a lot of times I just share artwork, you know, but I should make print, you know, and go out, out to swap meets or something like that. Cuz I have enough, you know, material to make a showing and you know, try to make some money or just get distribution but yada yada yada. That's the whole commercial thing, you know. Sucks.
Speaker C: One second this medicine is trying to choke me. Anyway, Honestly, Honestly, I think you would do good if you did some prints or if you did the original stuff as well with what you already have. I say that to say this, take it to like car. See by going to like car shows and veteran events and stuff, I don't know, might be a pretty good idea to tap into those markets there.
Speaker A: I have a website of Native American computer art. I call it, it's the figureart.comf I g a r t one word dot com. And I used to go around selling that stuff at vendor events. But it's a lot of work I think now with electronic media, Internet, you know, putting stuff out there would be a good way to make money, you
Speaker C: know, or do something.
Speaker A: And I've got other art forms, other artworks, stuff like that, paintings and miscellaneous creations. But somehow the artist shouldn't be the one doing the business. People go, ah, that sucks. It hurts their feelings.
Speaker C: Well, I mean, yeah, I can see that partially because I mean it's like the doctor making his own appointments, you know, he's got a receptionist for it. Except in my case when I work. Not, not saying that I'm a doctor and that but when I worked the crisis for the mental health team and all that days that I wasn't working the, the unit, I had a different caseload and those. Oh man, I don't even know where it's going with that. See, I dumped my, I turned my brain off, I got done. We'll pass it back to you, Pete.
Speaker A: Got the Scots talking. Hey, I used to like this stuff. Crown Royal put it in the freezer. Oh hey, you know when it was going down, it was like real cold, didn't freeze, you know. Oh, that felt good. Oh yeah.
Speaker C: Oh, no, not the scotch. Well, I got it right here. But no, there was something else, some other medicine that I took that helps with anxiety,
Speaker A: So. Well, anyway, one thing, though is I. I don't want to step on any toes in terms of offensiveness to the military, but, you know, a lot of people think, well, anything military that's bad, they're killing. They kill people. That's what they do. And then you've got, you know, a military vehicle with skulls on it. You know, I mean. I mean, I don't know if it's weird or not. It just kind of comes out. And I have one that's a favorite. It's actually a half track, so I'm going to make you a print, send it to you. That'd be easy because that. Even sending that one little piece right there. $10. Not bad, but, you know, I think. Wow, should be four bucks.
Speaker B: Damn.
Speaker C: You didn't have to pay out of your pocket to send that.
Speaker A: I know.
Speaker C: Oh, that's funny. The dog's ears are flopping in the wind in the truck. That went by. Easily distracted at this point. Be forewarned. Anyway. No, that's awesome. Yeah, don't. Don't spend any more money trying to do that. When I come up to talk about that radio. We'll just do some artwork stuff then. But, yeah, no, I dig it. I don't think you're gonna offend anyone. And if you do, that's their fault, not yours. But I digress.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, I also like military vehicles. You know, the old Sherman tank,
Speaker B: the
Speaker A: truck, what they call those things? Deuce. Deuce. Something like Deuce. Yeah, those things are cool, you know, run forever.
Speaker C: Deuce and a half. Yeah, well, they run forever until they don't. We were working at BL Air Force Base, turning in equipment from one old unit to another. And anyway, dude's like, I'm great at driving. So he's like. He's leading the pack and he wrecked the truck. I spent the next week fixing that truck because he totally tore the front cab right off. Pushed it right into the fuel tank and.
Speaker A: Oh, man, all he's had to do
Speaker C: is make a wider right turn. But no, no, he's the master driver.
Speaker A: You know, I actually like these guys who do restoration on, you know, old military tanks. You know, there's an ontos actually used by the Marine Corps. Army didn't want it. It's, you know, six cannons. Not a. On a real light tank frame, but pretty awesome weapon, though.
Speaker C: Well, that's cool. I know a Couple of years ago, I was asked by one our veteran group, but I wasn't able to do it. They someone privately has a tank that doesn't have the top turret. I guess they couldn't get it, obviously. Obviously. I don't know what the. I'm not gonna ask either. Anyway, they had. He. He takes that to parades and they wanted me to drive it. I wanted to drive it, but I wasn't able to because I could turn it because I had to go to work. Oh, that's a bummer. One time I could drive a tank and I can't.
Speaker A: Hey, Paul, maybe when you retire, put this in your bucket list. Drive a tank. You know, they're out there. You can get them if you have money, you know, and also aircraft, you know, pretty highly prized stuff. You know, rare but, you know, cool. Big boys toys.
Speaker C: Yeah, I'm not one for flying off. I'll be a passenger. I ain't flying this thing. I don't trust myself that driving and gives me nothing shady as it is, but. Anyway, Pete, I am gonna go ahead and head back inside. I've been out here fiddling around and whatnot, and I think I'm gonna go find something to watch and enjoy this scotch. Anyway, Pete, we'll talk to you soon. K06BGY I'll be clear in your final 73.
Speaker A: Yeah, you're kind of home early.
Speaker B: Really?
Speaker A: KO6BGY F6IWH I'll catch you later. Okay, you guys have a good evening. Pete, Paul and Paul, thanks for the. The way you did with the little
Speaker C: thing there at the beginning of your talk.
Speaker B: WD6AXM
Speaker C: hey, Dave. Not sure what that thing was. I've already moved on mentally. But whatever it was, I'm sure I didn't mind anything. Doing it,
Speaker A: Ignoring stuff.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
Speaker C: Definitely not worth it. Have a good one, Dave. KO6BTY
Speaker A: Very good.
Speaker C: Appreciate it.
Speaker A: Go ahead, Pete. WD6XM well, I'm soldering. In England they say solder and people have told me to watch those fumes. What? What did you say? Daughter fumes. What did you say? Anyway, kids, M6IWH I'll talk to you later.

Wouldn't allow us to use certain kinds of solder also in the military and the Air Force. And, yeah, some of that older stuff can get kind of nasty after a while. See you later. Speaker A: Local36.
Speaker B: Good morning W6TR.
Speaker A: Yeah, W6 is Tango Romeo. Right.
Speaker B: QSL name is Phil.
Speaker A: Phil, good to hear you again. November 6th, go radio. Go up in the Reading area and just finished with an HF Net. And of course there's the big contest today, so a lot of people doing that.
Speaker B: Yeah, I was on 40 last night. I know what the big contest is. Is that the contest that you're referring to and is that jermaine just at 40.
Speaker A: I think it's an international DX contest. So I'm thinking they're everywhere.
Speaker B: Okay, well that makes sense. It was quite active. I talked to a guy in the Canary Islands which is pretty good for 40 and yeah, lots of activity. I'm not a contester but I find it, you know I use contesting as sort of like a beacon, you know, to sort of give, give me a sense of how conditions are.
Speaker A: Yeah. One is a, one of the things I did years ago with one of these contests, it was before I got my ICOM 7300 was I was running, running these microbitic radios. They're like a QRP radio that runs actually a little bit higher power than about 15 watts max. But on the upper bands it goes down to 5 watts. And I, I received, I, I, I was one of the first, first persons to check in with. Dx delta charlie or. I think it's DX4X ray or something like that. It's out in, they were on Cape Verde islands out over right next to Senegal, South Africa on those islands out there. I had 5 watts on 15 meters.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's pretty amazing for 5 watts. Yeah, I run a 7300 as well. What a fantastic radio. I thought about getting a 7610 but I can't see spending the money and I don't know if it's going to, you know, aside from having dual VFOs, I don't really see the need but I've never worked anyone in the South African part of the world.
Speaker A: Yeah, well that's the only time I've really ever, I've worked them with JSA call now if you're FT8 user you would probably have a better chance of reaching some of these stations. But an FT8 is a good contest mode. But JSA calls does a whole lot more and it was really cool to. But I was on sideband for side fan when I talked with Delta it was actually the call is Delta 4 Charlie. Delta 4 Charlie. It's a big contest club and they had a Huge station. But they lost their tower, last I heard. So I don't know how if they've got what they've got back up on that island out there.
Speaker B: Yeah, a lot of these clubs get. I guess just a contest call. The guy that I worked last night,
Speaker A: I think it was a Echo Delta
Speaker B: 8 call and I forget the letter after 8. Suffolk. But anyway, yeah, he was working a lot of people looked like QTH was pretty cool as well, you know, he's on an island, you know, off the
Speaker A: coast of
Speaker B: Northern Africa.
Speaker A: Well, that's where Delta Fort Charlie is located. You know, there's two sets of islands out there. I think the more famous one is the Canaries maybe. And then there's. Cabo Verde or Montenegro or that group. So you could have gotten either if it was. If it was off the coast or was it actually in. In north part of. Did you say the north part of Africa or south part? I forgot.
Speaker B: Yeah, I was in the north part, you know, and I.
Speaker C: QRZ hate,
Speaker B: you know, had it listed and I'm assuming it was a canary. One of the Canary Islands. But anyway, yeah, it was good. What net did you check into this morning?
Speaker A: It. Or maybe 21.35, 4.5, but this guy's on dot three and they do that. I. I'm not sure why, but they're just grabbing a frequency and it's not, you know, you have to be able to open up your radio to get on frequency with them.
Speaker B: I missed part of that.
Speaker A: I doubled.
Speaker B: I was in sort of a bad spot. Say your comment again.
Speaker A: Oh, that day, a lot of these stations were on dot three or I mean their dot, their dot, whatever dot. Like this guy is 21354 dot three instead of 21354 or 21.35, 4.5. He's on dot three.
Speaker B: Okay, I was asking you, what net did you check into this morning?
Speaker A: Oh, I'm sorry. I actually told you. Maybe I doubled with you. Maybe I got on too quick. It's a Chabasco net. It's a marine service net on 40 meters.
Speaker B: Very good. I'm sort of in a hole here, so I'm going to stand by for a minute until I get into a better spot. W6PR.
Speaker A: One of my buddies always goes through Oroville Dam and does that. Grg. Anybody else on. On. On the 36 local net?
Speaker C: It's too quiet out here.
Speaker A: Well, it was. You got a loud signal.
Speaker C: I know because I'm the only one with a decent radio. Yep, both you guys are in and out of the repeater and doubling at times because of it.
Speaker A: Well, we're icon people, so we, we know. Being heard.
Speaker C: Yeah, I know, I know you're being heard for sure. Not sure it's the best representation of the ICOM though.
Speaker A: I'm not on an ICOM right now. I'm just saying we're icon people. He's got a 7300 also.
Speaker C: Yeah, well, you were sounding good. I think it was yesterday on that Quan Shang. Maybe get back onto that one,
Speaker A: that Quan Shang, you know, that surprised me. But the big deal was that antenna, you know, when I was running the upright antenna. Do you remember that antenna? Alpha, bravo, romeo, echo. Echo antenna.
Speaker C: Yeah, I have two of them. Yeah, two of them. You're the ones that like four feet tall. I don't know, probably 39 inches tall. Whatever. What is that, like a half, a full half wave or something? I don't know what they are. Something like that. Tape measure type antennas. Yeah. Pretty hard to carry them around that way though.
Speaker A: Yeah, they're a little long for carrying around. But I was able to talk with Michael and Yuba Table City and probably had a better signal than he had. He could. He could hear me even when my receipt wasn't doing well. He could hear me just fine.
Speaker C: Well, try to give a little space there. You know, I don't usually do that just simply because the other gentleman you're talking in case he wants to get back in. This is Kilo, November 6th. Mike Golf Kilo. Location is Chico. And anyway, yeah, whoever, Michael or whoever what you were talking in Yuba City. Unless you mean the Ki6UJX. I think he's in Linda. Anyway, yeah, he's got kind of a, you know, got those set of butes and stuff in the way, so makes a little bit more difficult. For sure.
Speaker A: Yeah. Ujx, are you out there? N6trg. We had a good long conversation. I was explaining what I was, what I was using and I. I did go over to this area where I can actually get 5G and watched some videos and looked at actually found one where the guy was actually using and using Linux and he explained what the presets do. I believe looked everywhere on non YouTube stuff and forget it. So I had to go to YouTube and sure enough I found a video where the guy was using the preset. The FM preset? Not the FM preset, the FTA preset.
Speaker C: Okay, so what did he say? That they did that? That's more of a specific thing. What did he say?
Speaker A: That they did well, they always used 115.200 and not the other, the other, any of the other baud rates and explain some other stuff. It was all pretty basic stuff that I, I think I've done. You sent the radio to cast. You said it's a data packet. You turn the, he said you turn the split to fake it. But this split thing, you know, that is an interesting thing. Oh, he, he said to use no split whatsoever for FT8 but the split thing sees that what this radio is doing is this, this 7,7300 is doing is when I try to connect with cat, goes over to the radio, sends it from the 5400 to the radio and tries to go into CAT mode. And what I see flash on the screen is related to the split mode. I see the 20 meter band, I'm on 40 and I'll see the 28 meter band jump onto the screen for just an instant. And then, and then I won't get a cat. It doesn't say I've got cats. So it doesn't turn green. It seems like this. I use the 5400, it doesn't always have to turn green. And I had full CAT operation, but just going to 20 meters from 40 for an instant. That's odd. I've never seen that before.
Speaker C: Yeah, I haven't seen that before either. But I have in regards to that split operation. I've seen it. You know, I don't want the asus. Everything I've had to run is split is none. But I've always thought that the icoms were split as split as fake it. So, so that was my recollection. But yeah, if you see crazy things happening on your transceiver, then yeah, then
Speaker A: you have to switch that setting.
Speaker C: But I thought when I didn't run it on the ASU, like let's say I'd be on 40 meters 7.078. Then next thing you know I'd look up and It'd be like 7 079, you know, because I was on a
Speaker A: thousand
Speaker C: on the screen or whatever. Right. So it's, it made some, some sense. But. But then when you start trying to do other things, it'd be all mixed up. So I don't, I don't exactly know how that's supposed to work on JS8 or FT8, whatever about, you know, you know, you, you set your center frequency to 7.078 and the transceiver, I know it always stays the same. Yet, yet when you're transmitting you know, you can see it on PSK reporters. They'll say they heard you at 7.079, even though your transceiver is 7.078. So it's kind of like your signal somehow is able to go out on a different frequency, even though your transceiver hasn't done it that way, at least not by the center frequency you set it to.
Speaker A: Yeah, and I've seen on other radios, I've seen all that and. And, you know, understand how it's used and so forth and how to turn it off and on and all that sort of thing. I've never even ever tried to use it with the 7301 Interesting thing, though, that I found out by looking at these videos is that you. If you want to know what. What preset is doing for fta, the first thing you do is turn off the fta. In other words, you unload from it and go over to some other preset, start that on or something, where you go to normal, I guess, and then you're allowed to edit the preset. And when you edit the preset, you can see everything it's doing. So, like, one thing I see is that the CI v baud rate isn't set, which I thought. I think is kind of strange. How can you not. How can you not have that? It shows everything it's doing. And one of the things it says is piv usb Echo back is off. I thought that was supposed to be on. So I don't know. Interesting. Let you see everything that the FTA preset does while you're doing the edit.
Speaker C: Well, I guess that's the answer to your ultimate question.
Speaker A: That you were asking about what it does. So if you go through every screen and you see it, then that should. You should be able to make those appropriate changes in the transceiver, even in normal. Right, is what you're kind of thinking.
Speaker B: Exactly. Yeah. It. It's saying the width is 3.6k, which is wide as you can get. USBD is the mode. That's one thing I didn't notice it was switching the USB D. Let's see. Token type is HF filter type. There's another filter type that says 50M is soft. Both of those are soft. ACC, USC output select is AF. It's a whole bunch of different settings.
Speaker A: Yeah, well, we have to, at least on the asus, change to the mode of, you know, USB D. I was pretty sure that icon had to do the same thing. But anyways, the other thing we have to do here, like say if I'm in CW mode and I have my width to about maybe 400, you know, well, I have to change that back. I've made that mistake. But I can usually see it on the waterfall right away because it'll give me. It'll give me signal in a, you know, 400 kilohertz location, you know, of the waterfall, and then the rest will be all black. I'll be like, okay. Oh, yeah, okay. That's what's going on. I have to go back in there and touch my width back up to 3,000.
Speaker B: Yeah, because that's your CW width that you're looking at there.
Speaker A: Yeah. Well, the first time that happened, I probably had a half hour's worth of like, trying to diagnose why the heck my waterfall is not working right. And I even may have called somebody at some point in time. Don't recall. But I don't think that was helpful. It just came to my mind that was probably when I first started CW that, you know, man, I mean, I had messed with the width, and I'd never really messed with the width before. I always kept it as pretty wide as you could get. You know, the only thing I've ever restricted it on was transmit. And that's another thing, is I was always transmitting with less width, so I, you know, had to adjust my width on transmit also. And we do that a lot of times in the audio settings to hopefully make your voice sound better. We listen to VSTR and all that kind of stuff or whatever it is. I don't think it makes any difference to me, really, because I don't think I sound great no matter what I do. But Anyway, the point is that
Speaker B: I
Speaker A: have to fix that too. The transmit width.
Speaker B: Well, one thing about some of these digital modes I use, they all have a different width that works better depending on what you're trying to do. JSA call. If you have a QSC QSO going and you're both on the same, same audio spot, if you narrow it, you can bring up the signal adjustables, bring it way up. That's what I did when I was doing that Antarctica JSA was. I was messing with my filter. We were both on the same spot. In the same spot. And what you do, what happens when you do that is you eliminate all the interference that's outside of your frequency and it's actually the bandwidth the radio. Now with the 7300, your only choice is to narrow it right where you are. Right. You know, and in, in other words, the middle of the band, like 1600, if you're at a wide, you're using a wide. You start out with a wide thing and then 1600 is kind of the narrow, the center of that band. And when you narrow it, you're narrowing it only for the center. Some of the radios are capable of narrowing it all over the place.
Speaker A: Yeah, we on the Asus that I have all of them. Although the DX10 does it. The best, you know, of course, is we can change the width. We can shift it back and forth. We can use a notch and move. You can narrow the notch, make the notch wider, you can move it around. And then you can also use contour, which kind of smooth, smooths out the top. And this doesn't even bring in the attenuator. But you know, obviously on digital you probably don't want to use the attenuator. But anyway. Yeah, and it gets, you know, boy, the more you do that, all that stuff, it gets more complex. I know the 7300 does some of that, but I don't know how easy it is. I know on some of the 7,300 stuff, you can just kind of touch the screen and make things happen. And here you got to touch the screen to maybe employ the mode. Then you'll have to use maybe a multi knob to move it around.
Speaker B: Well, you know, you may be able to widen the area you're listening to off, off of center. Because there's some other. When you go to your filter, there's some other things you can do, and one of them is shift. So you may be able to use that shift and make it so you can narrow it elsewhere. So yeah, there May be more things we can do but I've never actually read anything to see about that. It may be capable. It probably is capable.
Speaker A: Even the Yaesu 710 field and the 710 AESs they have the same abilities but the ergonomics like where they're located on the radio itself are a little bit different. And of course the technology of the radio itself is a bit different because it's a full on SDR radio. Kind of like the. The 7300 is versus the DX10 it's more of a hybrid. So they have both components in there. So anyway yeah, so yeah, the DX10 is a little quieter but 710 is pretty effective. I like them both. They put the 9918 ashamed and they still felt that unit but only because they don't have a vhf, uhf, all band more base unit. You would think at some point they would want to improve. Improve that design and quit selling the 991A because I mean it's very not. It's not that user friendly compared to these newer un.
Speaker B: Well I see this thing called SFT which has got to be abbreviated for shift which would theoretically move the area you're trying to narrow down around. And I can't find any way to change it. I can't so far I haven't found the way what you need to do to make it move. So that's probably the answer if I found that I have to some manual or something. But anyway yeah, with the 7300 doing everything it does and amazing everybody and then and to mark two even adding on that it's making the ICOM group of radios pretty popular.
Speaker A: Well the neat thing about AI too is that someone has taken the manual. Sure. And imported the whole thing over the Internet probably many, many, many times. And you could literally just ask a question on Google, you know, how to shift or whatever with the ICOM 7300 and tap a button and bam. It'll give it to you. And it's probably pretty accurate. I have a manual sitting right in front of me for I think probably going to say all but there might be one missing there. I think the 857. I have it in the where the A57 is because I take it out in the field and never know. But anyway so I could grab one of these paper manuals, you know that come with it about the size of a book or a notebook and then I can flip through it old school if I had to. But I never do that. Anyway, as I mentioned, it sounds like that might be a bit difficult for you to do right now though. Anyway. But that was just my thoughts on that. KN6MGK.
Speaker B: Yeah, I've got to get the figure out what I'm going to do about Internet. I really don't want to go up to a $69 a month plan, but I may have to. You can get fiber here for that price, unlimited data and blah blah blah. But what I'd like to try because of of what it might do for me in the future is a couple things. One would be WI FI debt or I mean not WI fi cell phone data. For weak signal cell phone. And they've got this thing called the weboost that'll take care of that and I might look into that. Something like that. They're kind of pricey though. Ally Express is selling a bunch of offshoots of all that stuff. But you know how Ally expresses they, they can explain to you what you're really getting. That makes it kind of hard to buy stuff. So especially complex stuff like this, like a Weaver type unit. I, I actually, actually hate the fight way the fiber guys install fiber. It's just ridiculous. It's just asking for trouble. They put it like 6 inches foot at the most below the ground and it's just ridiculous.
Speaker A: Okay, well I'll tell you what's ridiculous here in the city. When they put it in around here then they would, you know, they were basically going through every other house running it down the street. Then they run like a lateral or something through the backyards of people's houses to the other street, you know, going that way. And they messed up the irrigation of gosh on my street. Two or three people, I think they had to come back later after, you know, after they turning sprinklers on and finding out that their systems were screwed up. So nevertheless they had to fix the people sprinkler systems. They had an outside contractor coming around doing that. But the reason I brought anything up about them is that they poked these holes and I'd have to go measure them. But they're probably like 6 or 8 inches wide or whatever in the streets. And it's every so often on my street there's a few of them anyway. And then when they're all done, they put some dirt in it and they put some of that not so good asphalt in it I think. Well anyway, they came by later to fix that. But nevertheless, oh probably about six months after the fact, every hole that they did that to Sunk down, you know, say four inches again. And not everyone, but there was cars didn't bother them too much. I mean, you might feel a little like in a hole as you would drove over it. Of course we avoided them, but what they did. I had one time I was taking a walk, funny story with my wife, and there was a cop that was just sitting there with the lights flashing and everything at a crosswalk. And I'm like, that's interesting. I don't know why, because there's nothing around. And so I. So I went up to the cop car and it ended up being a female officer. She rolled out her window and then I said, well, what's going on? Do you need some help or anything? And she's like, no. And she looked at me and my wife and then she didn't feel threatened, I suppose. So she opened the door and she got out. And then she goes, you see that right there? Oh, yeah, yeah. In the crosswalk was one of them holes. And it was opened up to probably like six inches deeper, maybe a little deeper. Right. And said, well, an older person just tripped in that and called into the city and it's presenting a big problem. So we're having to send the public works crew out here to do something about it right now. Oh, okay. I'll say okay, no problem. She talked to me for a few minutes and went back in her squad car and of course we walked on. But I thought, yeah, that was interesting. Back to you.
Speaker B: Yeah. Now, what's the name of the fiber, the company that's offering the fiber there?
Speaker A: Yeah, I was trying to look it up right now in terms of. For you, but the one here is called Race Communications. It's the same group that. That Matthew, I'm forgetting his call sign. You talked to him before that he works for. Anyway, Race Communications. And I'm going to tell you that they knocked on my door the other day and were offering a promotion and it was probably about half the price that you mentioned. And it was also set for two years, I think it was. I may have saved that card. I'll have to look around here. It would be right near my front door where he rang the doorbell. So anyway, nice guy and all, not pressure or nothing like that, but he was definitely a salesman for that. That company. And now I'm trying to look to see if they offer that in your area.
Speaker B: Well, here we originally had this company called the Happy Valley Phone Company and they had landline phones. And when I first got here,
Speaker A: I
Speaker B: think they might have been kind of in transition when I first got here in 2007. But they changed the name of the company to the. Well, to the name of the bigger. It's like phone company number four in the US as far as size. There's AT&T of course for landlines, there's AT&T, there's a few others. And then there's this one which is I think lte. Have you ever heard of that?
Speaker A: I looked up, I just kind of Googled, you know, Internet or high speed Internet for Redding, California and they're coming up with Spectrum T mobile 5G home Internet, which I think they would use AT&T lines. That's pretty fast. Another Spectrum Earthlink. These are all Verizon course, Viasat, Starlink, E I N. That one says Fiverr Easy Internet now anyway and. But yeah, and all the other ones are really slow. Yep, but go ahead.
Speaker B: Well, see there's a, there's a company that has a whole lot of really rural. I think it's called Frontier and they have a horrible reputation. And then there's this company which is even smaller here. It's smaller now. There's places up north where they, they run, they have control of everything. Sometimes these companies are gobbled up by bigger companies like AT&T nowadays especially because there's no, there's far less monopolization control now.
Speaker A: Anything.
6vzd mobile we6axm repeater.
Speaker A: Goes kind of a thing. So. Yeah, tricky stuff. Anyway, Frontier was in Trinity county at one time. I think they're still there. And they had the most hokey landline system you've ever seen in your life. A lot of it was burned up in the fires. I don't know what is what they're doing now. They had fiber going to Weaverville before. Almost all. All of the other companies had any fiber going anywhere. Somehow they got fiber into Weaverville.
Speaker B: It was so strange. Yeah, it says something here About Frontier offers DSL to 1% of homes anyway. I don't think they've got a pretty good amount now. Talks about AT&T. DSL reaches 98% of reading homes anyway, so sounds like they must have an okay system. Charter possesses a monopoly on cable Internet between 99% of residents. That something called Charter.
Speaker A: Well, whatever you're looking at isn't bringing up the subject of fiber. And fiber is where it's at. Now, if they're not talking about fiber in every other sentence, then they're missing the boat.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, it must be an old link, so. Because I would agree with you on that.
Speaker A: Yeah. And the fiber here is interesting how. How it was set up originally, what the company told people and everything, like they were putting it down the street. And I'm going, well, is this going to be available to the people that live here? And they said, no, no, it's. It's specifically for the schools. That's all we're. We're going to make it available to it for. Is the school. And then.
Speaker B: And then they.
Speaker A: All of a sudden, a few years later, a couple years later, they said, well, we're going to offer it to everybody on this Cloverdale street. And I saw a lot of, you know, they'd have a single truck come and I watched them do it. These guys were from Wisconsin that were putting it in and they just took a shovel and widened the ground a little bit, dropped the cable down as far as the shovel blade went and brought it into your house. And it was. The ground was really wet. So they could get away with that. Well, and. But if they, if it was a longer run, they had this great big huge fixed digger thing that would reach down and had a rotary thing at the end of a. It was kind of like what you see for. It was hydraulically controlled and all that stuff. Green, big green thing. And they roll it off the truck and dig this ditch that was about as wide as. As what I. The one I used to put in a solar. A pipe for solar. Solar at the ranch for Surina County. It was a big. It's a bigger gadget. And I, you know, I watched and put that into my neighbors, and then all of a sudden, I'm starting to see water flow out of the, out of his property. So I think they got his water line. I don't know if he knows it yet, but I think they got it.
Speaker B: So who's your. Your cell phone provider? Are you using, like, AT and T?
Speaker A: Well, I use Verizon here with a. And now that I'm not using a Samsung, that's all I can use is Verizon. Like, if you get a Samsung from that company that has the cheaper plan, one of those companies, Samsung radios, are capable of the AT&T format and the Verizon format or the T Mobile format. Verizon and T Mobile use the same format, but AT&T is a different one. And a group of companies that uses the AT&T format and it's a different radio.
Speaker B: Are you sure about that? Because everything I've been told is AT and T and T Mobile are similar, and Verizon and, and Xfinity are similar. And that's why I have Xfinity right now. That just changed, and I haven't noticed any difference. I had Verizon before, but I do have Samsung. But nevertheless, I mean, like, at least the salespeople are trained at Xfinity to say that they're using all the same Verizon towers and equipment and so on.
Speaker A: Well, they may be. And I don't know much about Xfinity. I just know about the big companies and T mobile, AT&T and Verizon are different. AT and T is different from T Mobile and Verizon who use the same format. And this is not the same as frequencies, but, yeah, T Mobile and Verizon use the same format. For what it's worth, there's one tower here, though, that uses the same tower
Speaker B: and the same antennas.
Speaker A: Broadband, wimpy, terrible antennas for every company, they have every company coming out of that tower. ATT and Verizon on the same tower and T Mobile and everything else. And they spread it out. It's such a wide spectrum with, you know, and split so many different ways that it only goes about a mile per version. Horizon. That's line of sight. For data here. One thing I'm noticing is that the data that I get in the house here, you continuous, continuously have to reset the iPhone. It just. It runs the data for a little while and it shuts it off. And, and that's a re. Something to do with the tower I'm accessing. So I go, if I go outside I getting a different, using a different tower and it doesn't shut it off. So you know, it's forcing me to have an outside antenna.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, anyway, I don't, I know that Starlink is probably still what I would think would be your best option. And I think even if it was a home based unit which earns less money might be the way to go. I see another special on that where they've reduced the price on the home based. 50 bucks a month or something, I think it was. So I think that's pretty reasonable for Starlink. And that equipment was less money for the home unit.
Speaker A: Yeah, there are these mini deals and I've gotten mixed responses on, on the mini deal. Some of them will say free mini equipment. But you have to already be a, have a Starlink Starlink, a big, you know, the bigger Starlink system at your house. And then all of a sudden everybody starts advertising. There's all these people that are selling Starlink. See there? So that makes it even more confusing because they have different stories. But all of a sudden they came up with this advertising how you could get a Mini. With no equipment is the way they put it. And probably that $50 a month thing, I'd have more of a tendency to go with that than this fiber because of the possibility that it would work for me in the future. But you talk to John and he says so he can't make WI fi calls on his Starlink. And I'm going, what, what kind of a deal is that? You know, he says it's because of, of the way they switch satellites. Well, yeah, okay. You would think there'd be a way to. I, I have the same kind of thing happen here. I'd be talking to somebody, especially from inside the house and the signal that they hear from me will go away. And I'm still hearing them. And they have a tendency to hang up if you, if your signal goes away. So I tell them right off, if my signal goes away, don't hang up because I'll be back. And that, that work. See, I have horrible cell phone signals.
Speaker B: Okay, well, so anyway, I think a couple things there. Yeah, I think it's not as confusing that when it comes to Starming because I know a couple guys that have it and when you want the Mini and they already have the service, it's free. You know, the equipment is free, but. And the plans are half price too. So say it was 50. Well, it'd be 25 bucks. But anyway, like I just went on the Starlink's website and I plugged in your address just for residential, not for the Mini. The residential, they offer 100 megabytes per second for $39 a month and 200 megabytes per second for $69 a month. Anyway, so yeah, they've cut the price from 50 bucks to 39 bucks. I bet you 100 megabytes per second would be plenty for you. I'm just thinking because, you know, monthly kit. Yeah, monthly kit is free, so I don't think it would cost, I'm not sure, Maybe it costs 100 bucks or something like that. But anyway, something to think about. But I know you don't. You're not talking about wanting a residential unit, but it's just right now you're in a residence, so seems like that would work okay for you. I'm pretty sure that's what Jeremy has or whatever and he's been able to use it portable at one location, you know, like for field day and stuff like that. I'll have to ask him again what it is. I thought his position, Generation two or something, it was a bigger unit, not the Mini. I mean the thing was the antenna was the size of say a legal piece of paper, 11 by 17 or something. Pretty good sized one, you know, and he'd have to go through a little process of setting it up when he was out somewhere. But anyway, I believe he has a Mini now too. I have to know more about it, but just seems like that lately they've been definitely cutting prices and things like that for both the Mini and the residential users.
Speaker A: Yeah, he ended up getting a Mini. And then all of a sudden the advertising changed from Starlink where a really inexpensive but somewhat restricted Mini plan came out for RV users. And it didn't say you had to already be a customer. So there may be some way I can get some Mini going. And I would like a Mini because I think it uses less power. And so for RVer or for a. Someone on a boat or something like that, Mini would be good from that perspective. But they had a thing with your. If you were on a boat, they had a problem where you had to be within 20 miles of land or they tacked on a hundred and fifty dollars a month extra, which would be a no go for me. So yeah, lots of, lots of details and stuff. But like I said, the reason Starlink would be something I would think about is because I don't plan on being here forever, but then again, at my
Speaker B: age,
Speaker A: you can talk forever and reality can hit you in the face.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, we're in here now, so that's why, I mean, changes can always be made later, right? Right now you don't go out and about. You're kind of tired with having sheep there and stuff. So yeah, this thing goes on for too much longer. I'm sure that, you know, even just having the residential plan, 100 megabytes per second would be pretty darn nice and it'd be very useful.
Speaker A: So.
Speaker B: But yeah, and I don't think 40, you know, 40 bucks a month, $39 a month is too terrible in my mind.
Speaker A: But.
Speaker B: But anyway, you can always change later. I don't know, I can hardly read this thing, so you have better eyes than me. So maybe you can go grab a cup of coffee sometime at a Starbucks, bring a laptop with you and kick back like I do on Fridays right now. And you could be reading about Starlink the whole time, I don't know. Or any of the other Internet things that you wish to do. Nothing wrong with that, like watching YouTube or whatever. I'm sure there's a coffee place even nearer to you possibly that would offer, you know, Internet service to their customers. So yeah, you go in there and you buy yourself a four dollar cup of coffee and sit down for a couple hours.
Speaker A: Well, what I did yesterday, I walk a quarter mile down this fire road and there's a whole different neighborhood over there. And it's kind of a swanky neighborhood. But the thing about the name, that neighborhood is it's right up against the, it's this edge of the plateau we're all on. And the Clear Creek drainage is maybe a thousand feet where it goes straight down into Clear Creek. And down in the Clear Creek drainage over by the 273, there's a couple of towers. One of them is a nice variety tower. So I can get 5G over there, a couple bars of 5G, I can get all the LP I need. So I went over there and I
Speaker B: did,
Speaker A: I did what I had to tell some of the people that lived over there on studying. And they're looking at me like, you're 75, you're an older dude, you're not sitting for grammar school, what are you studying for? And they kind of glance at me like, yeah, right. But I was, and I was looking into all the stuff on this preset and all that stuff and I did find I have to have decent signals to do YouTube so I was over there and so that's where I would go, especially with the weather getting better and Rudy liked it because you get to go on a walk and we see a lot of deer on the way on the fire road, so we see deer. So worked out for me that's what I'll probably do to look into the starlink thing is go over there. No coffee though. Cup of coffee with me.
Speaker B: Well, the other thing you don't got, at least for one aspect of things is a bathroom. You may have a tree that you. It may not be helpful for the other thing. Anyway, that becomes important to me sometimes. I've had to take advantage of that as a Starbucks. Anyway, you don't also have some nice looking gals that come in and out? Some of them are older ones and stuff. Like yesterday there was a nice looking lady that come in, she talked to a friend of mine and. And I was like wow, you know, she was older lady, she was pretty nice looking. But anyway, you don't get that over there either. So. The other subject I thought I'd bring up is the diesel prices around here have been edging up a little bit. I was looking it up earlier this morning. It seems like they're all above five bucks a gallon now. Maybe I've seen 5, 519 or something like that. But the most expensive ones are more like 549 a gallon.
The Gears Net will be held Tuesday night starting at 7:30pm all amateur radio operators are welcome to join in on the net W6RHC repeater check 1.
Speaker A: Well, just before anybody knew that this war was going to happen, I filled up 35 gallon tank, you know. So I'm loaded up and I am going to have to use some of it to go get hay in about three or four days. But other than that, you know, I'm, I'm set and I'll probably, they want me to go to Anderson mid month to do a food giveaway or the, you know, the agency that I'm part of and so I'll probably take the E bike for that night, put Rudy in there and we go and you know, hopefully it won't be too cold. Sometimes I'll put a coat, wrap a coat around you. He's got, you know, pretty strange looking puppy in the back there with a goat wrapped around him. But a windbreaker kind of thing at a minimum. But I'll probably do that and not use that diesel. So the truck will just sit like it sometimes does for a couple months.
Speaker B: Kn6mtk well yeah, that's what can happen. I know I'll have to restrict my movements a little bit more to be more definite about things about like I'm gonna go on this day and I'm gonna go at this time and I'm gonna go for, you know, seven, eight hours at a time, whatever. Oh, by the way, if you, I'm sure you know what Daylight savings tonight. So adjust your schedule accordingly.
Speaker A: Yep. None of us are looking forward to it. The Chabasco net changes, you know, to pretty early hours and Arizona people are just, oh man, they're so upset with all that. And I, you know, the Chibaku nets get so small now. I'm almost ready to change over to the one that starts at 9 o'. Clock. The actual Baja net. Who has my buddy who lives in Mexico doing the weather over there. Tony. Remember Tony?
Speaker B: Yeah, of course. You go through Zulu. Yeah, yeah. You know, well, they've done things on that net, Chabasco to alienate people so. And then of course people have passed away like Oscar Papa. So there's been others too over, over the years that probably is, I don't like, I haven't heard Bruce forever so I don't know if something happened to him or whatever. But yeah, there was a lot of people there that are no longer there.
Speaker A: Yeah, for a while they just, they were wanting to be super restrictive and then combination of that and other things. Golf Papa was and still is just as just incredibly obnoxious to me and maybe to a few other people. And he can do a good weather forecast but he doesn't now. He's just. He's got other things going. He says he's got other things going, so you don't hear him at all. And, and he went over and talked to Tony on that Baja net one time. I, I heard him. But basically he's just not there. And you know, for a guy with that much power and all that, that many resources to not, not be doing HF almost at all, pretty strange stuff. But I've heard he has a girlfriend is. He's got this one guy that always is looking for him on, on the Chabascone, looking for golf Baba. And they go off every time that, well, Golf of Oz, never there now. And that guy always checking in. He's always there. So. But he won't be part of the net. It's a mixed up deal. I, I tried to describe the net as a relay net. And you know why I said that? Because you've heard how, how the net operates. You know, everybody has to relay everything. You know, everybody that checks in, they ask if you're going to be a relay. So I described it as a marine service relay net. And golf, football gets on there.
Speaker B: Well, that's the first time I've ever heard that. Yeah, potato patata, whatever. See, people, people like that just make things difficult, you know, and. Excuse me. Yeah, there was one guy kind of like that in this paradise group. He even told him, told everyone he's an honorary kind of a guy and stuff like that. Well, he was president for a couple years too, and he's been active with the quite a long time. And he was even before the campfire
Speaker A: and all that stuff.
Speaker B: This is a paradise area. Anyway, one time he got into it pretty good with one of the other members and so something finally had to be done. And so he was essentially ousted. I don't know how that went down. But anyway, you know, sometimes you got to do that. You know, hey, you're no longer welcome here. You know, even here's your refund of the club dues or whatever, you know, go away kind of thing. So I know Chabasco doesn't have that kind of a payment system or whatever, but you can certainly tell a person that they're not welcome any longer because essentially they're a cancer on the whole group. So. And I've heard him talk to you that way. So there might be a time and a place to say something to you, but it isn't, you know, on the net like that. So I agree that he hasn't treated you well anyway, so that's my thoughts.
Speaker A: Yeah, since you know, some of the others have left you singling me out, no doubt about it. But he is the only one to ever be ousted from the net and he eventually came back, but he was ousted because he used profanity, you know, at someone and I didn't catch exactly what he was angry about, but he used profanity at someone and got ousted. So that was way back, you know, a couple years ago at least. And then eventually he worked his way back in. So yeah, he is a costly character, that's for sure, But he's handy to have around because of all that power he's got. Linear.
Speaker B: Yeah, well, you could throw this fi I have sitting right here on your system and be just as good as him, I'm sure. But that's not an expensive one. This Yaesu FL 2100 Bravo. I think it is. Yeah, yeah, bravo. Anyway, they don't cost very much when you find them and so forth. This one works on 80, 40, 20 and 15. It has a slot for 10. I've never opened it up because the guy I got it from, I think he sent it in someplace and had had it work through and had a new tube put in and stuff like that. But I just don't think it has a. I don't think it has the 10 meter spot inside of it, you know, I've never wanted to open it up to look. So anyway, I just use it and seems to work pretty good but I don't overdrive it or anything, you know, maybe 500 watts is about the most I ever, I go with it, you know, so I just have it hooked into 120 volt, you know, power strip. And so it's funny for me when I want to have some extra power,
Speaker A: well, it all depends on whether I do this last hurrah thing and why I'm, I'm considering at least being prepared to do that if I change my mind. I can add things like that in here, but if I do that, you know, I'll be 100% 12 volt solar off grid. So yeah, you know, I'll know soon here because I think it'd be best for me to do it but quick here. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen and that's going to mean I, I'm hoping that I'll have a bunch of lands, I can sell them all the lands and then when I sell all the land then it'll be time to say okay, one Way or the other the Hughes got to go even if I have to go to an auction and if I go to an auction that widens out my market a lot. I've heard Stockton is the place to go to so there's a couple other possibilities. But Stockton was a big one. Although things have changed. Like when the Afghanis showed up in Anderson that changed everything and made things a whole heck of a lot better for selling sheep. Yet they do not want females. They want the biggest sheep they can get. But you said that other, other ethnicity liked the females, you know and there's very solid reasons for them to do that. The taste of the meat is much.
Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know much about it but the other guy I was talking to was from Egypt so he said they preferred the female. So anyway. But I've flirted with the idea of getting one but you know my purpose would be to put one in the freezer. So may not of course apple's happening with the, with those other ones but anyway hate to do that on a good producing female. Of course that's the only purpose I can think of. Now on the other hand I think Pat's son is part of the idea. He does have a little property. He could possibly keep some animals here south of town. Anyways he'd put her with the idea of having some to do some weed suppression and possibly to run around and charge people for doing that around here. Anyway if it comes to that at some point in time maybe you can talk to Pat or something and see if that has come to fruition. If they have interest in setting something like that up. I'm sure the they would need like a half a dozen of those in order to do something like that. It'd probably be nice if they had a male also to be able to keep the hurt going.
Speaker A: Well see as a someone who started out just want fire, fire protection, fire, you know, to eliminate all that worked out great. That that is a winner for sure. Fire protection is awesome. But then when I got to the point where I just started getting to the point where I, I knew and understood more about production of lambs it just became a thing where I just wanted to see how, just how, how well I could do, how good I could get at it. And I've been up to 28, 28 combination of lambs and ewes and rams. I've had 28 animals here and that's when the, that one one parasite hit me and severely reduced my flock and I only have one lamb that
Speaker B: made
Speaker A: it from that whole time period because they all lost their mothers. And then I tried to keep them going by bottle feeding them and that is not easy. It's a tricky deal. So I was able to have, I have one from that bottle feeding time. And anyway, the whole point though is that I was trying to save, save the mews, sell the rams, save the ewes and sell the males, you know, wither the males. And as a non ram, you know, as a withered male, they taste great and I, I flowered them for myself. But, you know, the point is that I'm now at a point where I have all these ewes and my production is up, I think, to the point where I'm going to have a lot of lambs this season. And I figured out a bunch of different things to make them make it so I'm successful. So I would probably hand out a paper to everybody that buys my ewes if they want it for production and say, you know, do this and you, you'll be successful. You've almost always got to have a ram, at least one. Believe my rant. Now I just take a picture of it for you.
Speaker A: Okay, well, so what's your plan for the day? Do you have anything exciting going on? It's almost 9:30.
Speaker B: Well, I'd like to find Delta 4 Charlie, but I have to go outside with my cell phone and I've heard you use these DX clusters. I don't know how you use them here. Like type is a Google tx cluster and Delta 4 Charlie and see if he comes up. Maybe. I don't know.
Speaker A: Well, I kind of sort of told my wife. She's already out on something she's doing, but I told her I was going to start working at 9. It's already getting close to 9:30 and I've actually got some things I gotta do before I can go outside and start working. But anyway, I didn't even grab my second cup of coffee yet, so I'm running behind anyway. But my plan is to do some gardening and maybe, maybe I'll work on one antenna. We'll see how much time I got. But I've got quite a few things to plant and so forth. So I don't know, I think I have to make it over to the feed store too. I have my trailer behind my truck, so it'd be a perfect time to grab some straw or grab some straw. So anyway, I better get onto it. I've got a full day in line, so then we've got to turn those clocks forward before we go to bed. So yeah, I'll have to catch up with you later, I think. Nice conversation and hope you have a great day. 7 3Kn 6 Ngk
Speaker B: now one thing I want to figure out is how split works on this 7300. There isn't a word anywhere in any of the menus or anything that talks about split. But there is one button up there. I see a button that says split up there. And when you click on it, you actually turn a light on that says split. So theoretically that would mean that split isn't what my problem is. So I don't know, man, but when
Speaker A: you try to key, when you try
Speaker B: to do a cat, you know, a cat thing, push the cat button to see if you get a green light. I see 20 meters flashed up. If I'm on 40, I see 20 meters flash on the screen and then go away and it doesn't give me a green light. So I'm having trouble figuring it out. Something happened all right, and it's probably to do with that preset, but I can't figure it out. Anyway, talk to you later. N6 GRG. Have a good one.
Speaker A: Yeah, Just real quick. I'm sure the split talking about on the radio is having to do with, like, you know, especially on contests where people are transmitting on one frequency and listening on another. Okay, 73 KN 6 MGK.
Speaker B: Yeah. This might be more like an A B thing, huh? If that's what AV means. I don't know. Gotta figure it out. N6TRG.
Speaker A: Yeah, Roger Rogers. That's what that does. Usually it's an AB thing, so it goes back and forth. You know, when you hit your transmit, you'll be like, say, on A, and you'll be listening on, say, B. And so it'll be however, you know, you would set it to be however far off the people are listening versus transmitting. So I've only had to employ that a couple of times. Generally happens on a contest weekend, and usually South America, you know, maybe other countries employ it quite a bit, especially when they're allowed to transmit on a certain frequency, but, you know, we're not allowed to transmit on theirs. So we have to transmit on the one that we can, and they can. That way they can hear us on one and they can transmit on the one that they're legal to do. So anyway, that's just how that's employed, as far as I know. All right, 73 can 6 MGK.
Speaker B: Yeah, and by the way, there's another interesting thing I've just noticed. Just below the VFOA and D thing on the screen, there's a big one there. It says one, and then underneath that it says blank. I don't know anything about those things. So I've got a manual. I gotta look at my manual, my hard, hard printed manual, figure out some of this stuff because it's probably related to my problem. That's. You asked what I was going to do today, and that's going to be try to figure the JSA call out. I got to get it on the air. Ridiculous. Talk to you later. W3.
