Speaker B: You know, one day you're gonna say, oh, that M6IWH again. Oh, my God. But then I think, well, hey, this radio, at least you can watch the little lights on your rig.
Speaker A: There aren't a lot of lights on my rig. I got the background light for the display. I have a receive lamp and I've got a transmit lamp and that's it.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah, what kind of rig is it?
Speaker A: A Kenwood commercial rig, actually, I Forget. It's a T7162, I think. Nice, nice radio. I bought it down at the ham swap in Loomis a couple of years ago. Thing was practically brand new. Guy was selling it for $50.
Speaker B: Excuse me, I don't know a lot about those kind of rigs, but is this FCC certified?
Speaker A: Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Yeah, generally they'll use them for, well, the vhs. So they use them for public safety? Sometimes. Yeah. I can't tell you what else, but you know, like a lot of. Like maybe something else, different frequency. The type of radios they put in taxis and commercial, business, fleet, police, fire department, such as that.
Speaker B: You know, I truly like a radio that will get other bands.
Speaker A: You know, transmit is nice, but fcc, you heard of that Federal Candy Company, something like that? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. You know this thing. Well, commercial rig, this thing. I won't say it's exactly built like a tank, but it's a pretty heavy duty rig. I have a couple.
Speaker B: One's a real nice icon. I wouldn't admit to it, but it'll get CB, it gets 2 meters and it gets GMRs as well as HF, you know, how can you beat that?
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I've got a few others. I got A Kenwood in 900 megahertz, you know, you have to program it by computer. There's no way around it. You cannot manually program it. But, you know, that's not that much of a hassle. It's not as versatile as some. You know, if I don't have a frequency plugged in and I'm going through some area that I might want to talk, then I'm out of luck.
Speaker B: Hey, you know, I got a. I bought a Yaesu 991 Alpha and there's a way
Speaker A: mode. I forget what it is. Service mode, emergency mode, something like that.
Speaker B: But it will actually transmit out of band. You can get it over to chicken band if you should need to.
Speaker A: And it's fine.
Speaker B: I guess they do this because of other countries
Speaker A: I guess. Yeah, because other countries have different bands than we do, that's for sure. Well if you ever think about selling your 991A let me know.
Speaker B: Well when I die I'll just leave a note to anybody that's left over to give it to Chris.
Speaker A: Yeah, I, well I've got a, I've got a nice rig but it's really basic. I've got A, the 450D Yaesu and it's, it's a nice rig but it is really basic.
Speaker B: You know I've found out there's nothing like a real radio. Hey Jeffrey, you know, getting the good stuff way too much, thirteen hundred dollars. But you know it's nice, it's hot on the receive, it has C4FM and gets UHF, VHF.
Speaker A: I actually a couple years ago he's a silent ski now but a guy up in Grass Valley, Chuck Murphy, he kind of acted as, you know when somebody would go silent key he acted as the, how should I put it? He helped the families. So on some of the silent keys equipment I've got a couple rigs from him. A couple years ago I bought an ICOM IC 718 which is another real basic, you know, entry level rig really but, but it's a good performer.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, I like rigs and you
Speaker A: know I like some of the older stuff too Kenwood.
Speaker B: I mean back in the day, 30 years ago these things were top of
Speaker A: the line but you know they're real
Speaker B: huge radios and 50,000 different knobs.
Speaker A: It's wonderful. Yeah, I forget what it is but there's one D2 I ran into a while back that wow, if I could find one I'd really like it have it. I think it's like a 992 but large, very large and it had its own built in power supply so you're not going to take it mobile anywhere. But it had some audio settings on it that I got to use it once and wow, the audio settings really helped clear out, clear up the signal and made it much more intelligible.
Speaker B: You know what I appreciate is the
Speaker A: waterfall,
Speaker B: you know especially if you're just cruising around looking for signals and stuff.
Speaker A: Oh yeah, well I would appreciate that, I really would. It's not quite the same but sometimes I'll get on an SDR on the Internet and use their waterfall. I'll find some traffic. Yeah, 450 does not have it. Neither does it 718 and I'm not sure that there's any easy way to add it.
Speaker B: I like that the HF rigs have UHF vhf. In looking for firefighters, you turn on the waterfall VHF and it'll show you where the helicopter is talking to the ground crew.
Speaker A: Pretty cool. Pretty cool. All right. Well, guess what? I pulled into the parking lot, and it must be Friday, because there's an awful lot more open parking spots than there are the rest of the day. So either people are late or they're just not here. Speaker B: lentil. Okay, I'll take it. You know, my wife made some experiments, like bean soup thing, and she had this great idea that it's the kind that would have, like, ham hocks and stuff in it. But she's vegetarian, so we didn't have any of that. So it's like missing some salt and some substance and some fat. And whenever she makes something new, she waits and looks at my expression on the first bite. And the expression is always the same. It's, oh, my God, that's really good. But I don't want to say things are that good because then she'll make it all the time because I had to chug this one down.

Speaker B: Well, mine, I cheated.
Speaker A: I just used the can and put it in a bowl and make it that way. Mine's not fancy.
Speaker B: Yeah, but it's consistent. Consistent? Well, you're gonna need to switch from all this hot soup to something a little cooler with temp changes.

All those, and they're like, I don't know, two, three bucks a bowl. It has the salad dressing in it. All you do is just kind of toss it and. Yeah, you're in business.

It's a little much just for a salad, but it's like cranberries and walnuts. That's one of them. And I can power through maybe half of that and then I'm just pitching the rest. So I wish they had a junior version of that.
Speaker A: Yeah, I've gotten some of the ones from the restaurants and some of them are pretty big.

Speaker A: I ate some of it and I get home and then it doesn't take long before it starts going bad and then I end up throwing it out sometimes.

Speaker B: Hey, you know, you could hire people to come and put up a big tower. You know, you could, like, put a beam out there or anything, really. Kill her.
Speaker A: So what are you up to today,
Speaker B: Actually? Cleaning up, looking around at stuff and, you know, spring cleaning kind of thing. Getting a lot of clutter. I like things neat, but I'm not a neat freak.
Speaker A: I can agree with that. I've. I've actually worked for some people. Ended up. You never knew it until you saw their house. And you're like, that's. That's bad talking Porters. They don't dump their trash. They're just piled up in the hallway. Can't get anywhere. Dog and cat excrement everywhere. It's like you're not cooking or you're not bringing food to the potluck. Because I'm not eating that.
Speaker B: Oh, yeah? It doesn't sound too good. Hey, I've got this neighbor two doors down, you know, oldish woman, but not really old, but you should see the inside of her house. And then her. She drinks and she wears these old T shirts with nothing on underneath, really, and it's gross. And there's slobber all over the front of the T shirt. I'm going, you know what? This is America.
Speaker A: She's living her best life. Yeah, some people, they don't do the hygiene thing too well, especially here at work. I work with a whole bunch of unhoused people. Both of them are nice, and you wouldn't even know they're unhoused. But sometimes it's like, you gotta go do something because my eyes are watering. You gotta say it in a polite way, though. The one I've been, my landlord.
Speaker B: Yeah, I mentioned I was helping this unhoused person find housing finally, after months and months and months. In fact, it's been a couple of years. But, you know, it's still like the people who have the money act like they want to hurt you or something. You know, they enjoy making you go without.
Speaker A: They probably sit around and go, we're
Speaker B: making them hurt now.
Speaker A: Yeah, I had. I used to have some. Used to have a friend that was like that. It's like, dude, you're a narcissist.
Speaker B: No, I'm not. That's exactly what a narcissist would say.
Speaker A: I work with people that are narcissists. The mental health field. Some people change when they find out, hey, you know, that's not. That's not the best way to go about things. And other people. And you just have to realize you can't change. You can't expect other people to be like you and show the same respect, you know?
Speaker B: Oh, shamanous. You know, it wasn't actually too long ago I found out. People who are really self absorbed. Isn't that what it is?
Speaker A: Yeah. I feel like telling them, calm down. You're not gonna. We're not gonna make out, make it out of this alive, so change your ways. But they don't.
Speaker B: Well, I was surprised about the people at Social Security. I mean, I learned don't make them mad. You know, this is where. This is sadism or something. They like to hurt people.
Speaker A: Well, I mean, there was like, my aunt, for example, she. When I was growing up, she worked as a daycare provider for the county office of Education.
Speaker B: She hates kids.
Speaker A: She hates kids. And here she is taking care of them. Like, double standards.
Speaker B: Well, I just kind of see a division, you know, like the way they have these little cubicles set up, it's like an encampment fencing around it, you know, nine foot with barbed wire. And you have. You can't go in. You have to call somebody and they

Speaker B: It kind of reminds Me of the Gestapo.
Speaker A: Yeah. I'm not a fan of double standards. It's like, if you're going to help somebody, help everyone. That fits that criteria. Don't pick and choose.
Speaker B: Yeah. You know, the other, the other part of it is a lot of these people are really ugly. Okay, Sorry. But they're hard to look at, and it's not pleasant. And therefore, you know, these people in power, hey, they. They turn the screws.
Speaker A: Yeah. I think it was a year and a half, two years ago, I was taking this unhoused gentleman from here in town to Chico because that's where the shelter was. And I take him over there, and he wasn't walking too good. And some lady, as I was helping him in, and some lady sitting there at the table outside, she's like, under
Speaker B: her breath, this is not a convalescent home.
Speaker A: If you.
Speaker B: You can't walk under your own steam,
Speaker A: you shouldn't be here. And as I was leaving, I was like, did you pay to be here
Speaker B: at the homeless shelter?
Speaker A: Because you shouldn't be judging people. You're in there, you're in a similar boat there.
Speaker B: Hey, you know what? One thing I, I noticed in some of the older crowds is they expect you to do something for them. As they say, you know, give me a ride or give me $5 or whatever. And then they get 10 start yelling, yeah, hey, that's not a way to win friendship.

Speaker B: Other than that, it's a nice day. Sunshine, a little cool, but, you know, vitamin D on the skin. Yum, yum.
Speaker A: W E6A. You know, it's a nice day over here. Light amount of clouds, blue skies, warm but not hot. Not much of a breeze. That would actually kind of make things a little better, but can't ask for everything. But that was. That was somewhat of a mild winter we had, in my opinion.
Speaker B: Yeah, but, you know, it's going to be brutal. Hot before you know it. And that's the other side of the coin. And you still have to pay PG&E.
Speaker A: You know, I used to joke around when I was in the army. It was like, in the winter you can put on as many layers as you need to to stay warm, but in the summertime, you can only legally take off so much without getting a charge. So it's like you got to find a way to embrace the heat. I don't know, go put your feet in the ocean or the lake or whatever. I. I used to go to the swimming pool here in town as a kid. I won't go there. Now because it's chock full of kids that'll get in your way and jump and hit you but I don't think they do it too many. I don't like enough people as it is. I don't want to go hang out in a cesspool with a whole bunch of people.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, When it gets to about 90 degrees I start crying and whining about it. I've got to seek shelter man. It's just too uncomfortable let alone whether one over a hundred.
