Hey, MVP, where'd you go? W6JKV on, uh, Trace Phillips. Buddy, I'm still here, coming up 101 in Hernando. Boy, that's a long delay, Echo. How long? I mean, it wasn't even hot. Was that like 15 minutes ago? How you doing? I'm home. I'm in Pacifica. Yeah, Tom got, uh, got busy. I'm just checking to see if he's back, but I guess not. Oh, Pacifica. Yes, that's a nice town. I was there a couple times for that Moncara job, and let me tell you what, I was blown away at that Taco Bell you guys have on the beach. Taco Bell Cantina. I'm thinking to myself, what's the liquor license like for that cost? I was impressed. Um, I wonder if there's another Taco Bell like that anywhere. I really do. Uh, that's a trip. Nope, this is the only one on the beach that I know of. Uh, yeah, I think they're opening cantinas here and there, but, uh, yeah, this one here is pretty pretty unique. So, um, yep, yeah, we, uh, actually use that place maybe once a week, something like that. Stopped in there twice, and I remember thinking the Taco Bell food you get there is like Taco Bell food anywhere. I did not get any of the drinks though. I had to keep driving back home to Santa Rosa. But boy, I thought that was pretty slick. I like how they have that trek deck in the backyard. I know why they do it. The bathrooms are all out there, so when you walk up the beach with your sandy feet, you're not tracking wet sandy water in the restaurant. You just go out the back. They got those mushroom eaters and those picnic benches out there. No, picnic benches are like, you know, tables for two. That's pretty cool. One of the locals was telling me there's some kind of barbecue restaurant that's also near there. It looks like a red train caboose, but I didn't see it. No, it's on the other side of the highway and north to Valimar. That's called Valimar Station. And, um, yeah, that's, uh, that's a pretty good place. Matter of fact, I think it's going to close down. At the end of the month. Yeah, they finally retired and, uh, it's a family thing. That was Hal and Barbara Asher's place. So anyway, yep, familiar with that one. Yeah, you know, before Taco Bell, it was actually Wendy's that's in that spot. So yeah, they're the ones that did the building and the deck and all that kind of stuff. So cleaners all got wet. Anyway, all right, man, I gotta set this thing down. I'm ready to hit the sack. I get up at 4 in the morning, so I think, you know, uh, our fans had a gig in Redwood City and just, uh, got home. So let's pull the plug here. WB6KTV going that way. Well, hey, hit us back. Well, you are an early riser. Hey, it's nice to talk to you. Check in to us on WB6AKBT P6 DOC Mobile. Alright, 73. Name's Mike on this end, by the way, and I'm on System 32 up in Montana, which coincidentally happens to have my callsign on it. How about that, Bill? See you. Get to work. Oh, me? No, I'm going to pull the plug, man, but I'll stick around waiting for you there, dude. You make it over to, uh, 24 yet? Yeah, I'm about to go into the tunnel, so I think you need to go in and go to sleep. Past your bedtime. It is way past my bedtime. So anyway, yep, I'm going to— I'll just stand by until you land. Because anyways, Chris and the lads aren't back yet. They'll probably be a little bit still, so. Ah, copy. Well, you don't have to stay up for my sake here, but I'm going into the tunnel. So I'll be back. By the way, they lit these things up. Looks like they got 49er colors now. Trippy. Alright, I'll be back in 6 NBT. Ah, check, check.

Speaker A: WB6JKV from N6NBT, you still there, Mike?
Speaker B: Got it, WB6JKV. So which is the bad news?
Speaker A: You've got to, uh, turn around? Well, he was wondering, I was like, well, did you read the note? You know, I mean, we got to give him notice and all this stuff and He's like, yeah, there's some— the hub is working and there's some nodes up, but there's like 13 of them that are down and all this.
Speaker B: And I'm like, oh. So he's like, yeah, we'll just wait and see.
Speaker A: But he's like, I don't know, something weird about it. There's no past performance history on these sites. And it's almost like, you know, they're new and got turned up by mistake. And I said, well, probably somebody's doing some software upgrade or configuration change and these things were locked down and got unlocked is my guess, you know. So anyhow, no, I don't have to turn around luckily, but I get to clock the time. So there you go.
Speaker B: Right on, man. Well, dodged a bullet.
Speaker A: Yes indeed. And, uh, Wait until the default tech gets 13 trouble tickets in his queue tomorrow morning.
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm on a few of the email threads at work for the different groups and yeah, it's kind of the same stuff. And yeah, there's stuff that's out of our hands, but they've been having a lot of IFC problems and You know, talent loses connectivity with the director and then at the same time they lose the programming audio that's supposed to be in their ears. You know, the monitor was live and on air. And it seems like, yeah, for both sides it's going down, both on the KNTV side and over on the KSTS side. So I'm thinking to myself, hmm, common denominator is probably a power supply, right? Feeding the two master receive racks that pick all that stuff up. All the eggs are in one basket, so to speak. Yep, that's what you got to do, you know.
Speaker A: Look at what's common between them and what's a global connection there, you know.
Speaker B: Yeah, you know, when, uh, the, uh, coupling was all done and all everybody QSY and change frequencies. And yeah, there's stuff all over the place. I noticed on one of the charts that a block of our, uh, Telemundo, uh, IFBs got clobbered. It's like, oh, no wonder. Yeah, this is Channel 36 up on Allison, uh, and they moved. It landed on one of our, uh, groups that we're using. And for all the wireless stuff in the studio.
Speaker A: So it's like, oh crap, that was a big scramble. Yeah. You guys got wireless comms and stuff like that in the studios at all? Or is it all hardwired or kind of a mixture?
Speaker B: System 11, link up. No, it's 100% wireless, man. Yeah, it's all, uh, that's everything. Everything is wireless. And, uh, that's pretty slick. They got the antennas up in the overhead where the lights are and everything, and the antennas feed back to the receivers in the, uh, server room. But yep, yeah, that was fun playing with that. I helped build the I got the first time dragged out the IFR, they go, oh, we got this. They got this nice little handheld unit that goes out to like 10 gigs. It's like, oh crap, man.
Speaker A: All right, I got another phone call. I gotta go. I'm sorry. I'll catch up with you, man. 672. Uh, krik krik.

Speaker B: But anyway, good morning, Jay. Yeah, he's a trucker.
Speaker A: He's operated CW before and stuff too. When I had my antenna further up, I could talk to him for quite a ways. But a lot of times he would put a call out as he got towards Orland, you know, because that's almost like directly across from me. So I'd be able to talk to him for a while then. Okay, I will try to log on here in a few minutes, and I'll send you the information. I sent in an email also to Parks on the Air. They may send you something to that same email. And then I'm working on it, working on something with QRZ right now too. So I was first hoping just to, just to get access to these emails. By using your email, the one that ends in WIP at Comcast. And then later on, once we get this, if we can, you know, get Gmail on, you know, working, and we can get the ARL one working, whatever, then we could just change them, right? So that was kind of the idea. But, um, so I'm working on it, and I've been up since about 5, so I've been just now starting to work on this, this stuff though. Anyway, getting ready to go to work to Yankee Hill later. It should be a pretty warm day. So I had a late one last night. I didn't get home until 8, about 8:30 or so. Yeah, so 8:30. I left right about 8. So anyway, and yeah, I didn't really get to sleep until 1:30 and woke up at 4:30. So that's what I'm working off of.

2026-03-19 14:24:30 UTC 92.6s · 2m Simplex (146.520 MHz)

Speaker A: Yeah, it was a speak typo. Yeah, yeah, I used Outlook. Yeah, so n6wip@outlook. Anyway, so hopefully that works out, but if not, then I'll work on it some more. So anyway, I guess we're trying to tackle this from both avenues, so I won't mess with the ARRL then. That was going to be something else down the line here, but the first thing I did was to QRZ is I sent in a silent key report on K6AKF, so we'll see if that goes through in the next couple of days too. So that way there they know that, uh, he's a silent key. And Robert is currently listed as one of the people, he has his email on there, but, uh, as well. But it doesn't even look like when you put in Like I put in on QRV, I put in W6PAR, forgot password, and it says, uh, username invalid. It won't even let me try. So something's goofed up, so that's why I'm contacting QRV right now. That was part of my plan to work after the meeting. I was instructed to work on this.
Speaker B: K-N6MGK. Okay, no, I'm not trying to get out of anywhere, but anyway, I will give you a call.
Speaker A: Okay, and 6MGK.

Speaker A: Um, I'm in Eureka. There's absolutely no gold here in Eureka, just a lot of, uh, impoverished folks, people that are like 2, 3 deep on street corners. I mean, we thought it was bad in Sacramento. Oh my gosh.
Speaker B: Yeah, that's what I heard. Uh, the outlining states are getting bad. So how you doing today, my brother?
Speaker A: Doing all right. Last month when I came up here, it was there was snow on the ground and it was actively snowing. So I had to wait for the snow to melt just because of the icy roads. And last night coming in, oh, it was so foggy. You could barely see your hand out from in front of you, right? I'm like, "Aww, I miss that weather." But this morning, clear as a bell. Beautiful sunshine, not a cloud in the sky.
Speaker B: Yeah, we're kind of in trouble. I don't know if you watch the news, but last night we're watching all the ski resorts and it's like, oh, we're going to try to hold off for another month. You can see dirt on the hill. It's like, dude, there is no more snow up there. It's, it's, it's a weird— well, what is it? Tomorrow's the end of winter.
Speaker A: Yeah, that's nuts. Hopefully you have some like backup skis and don't bring your good ones if you're gonna ski down that trail. It's like, I went to Hawaii, played a couple rounds of golf. Once I actually took my clubs, but it just became such a pain in the butt, I might as well just rent some when I get there, right? So I rented this pair. They were brand new. Just all the grooves were perfect. Polished. It's like they had just taken the wrapper off of it, thrown it in the bag, and a guy goes, "Here you go, here's your clubs." So, hit a few errant, couple errant balls, you know, 'cause we're on vacation, right? And I'm like, "I can totally hit out of this." Well, it was over, it's not rough, but it's the lava rocks, the total lava that's out there, and the ball's sitting up on it. I said, "I can hit that." So, you know, get my wedge out and— whoosh! The bottom of the club just scrapes front to back. I'm like, "Oh man!" I take a towel, rub it out. Uh-uh. I totally destroyed that club. When you talk about skis on mud and stuff, that's the memory that comes to mind. Anyway, I just gave it back to him and he goes, "Thanks!" He didn't even look at the clubs. Whew!
Speaker B: Oh man, remind me not to let you borrow my car.
Speaker A: Oh my God. What do you mean that dent? That dent was already there.
Speaker B: This is true. Hey, be careful. I gotta step away for a minute. I got some company that just showed up. Be safe out there, like the cops say. I, I care for you, my man. K6I7-3.

Hey Mike, how you doing? Yeah, you're making it in there, but it's going in and out. Like you're moving the radio or something, but, uh, your signal's fine. Yeah, I'm walking around trying to find a good spot. How's this? Yeah, that's much better. Yeah, okay, beautiful up here. Where are you? Yeah, I'm up here at Midland. Um, it's great up here. It's, uh, about 75. It's supposed to be 80° today. Yeah, it's going to be— well, we had 94 just the other day, and I don't know what it's supposed to be today, but going crazy. And I had two more lambs. I had twins last night. I have one— that first one was a single, and now I got twins. They're all gonna start being born. Who knows how many. Wow. Yeah, well, like I said, it's, uh, we got our antenna up, so I, I guess it's pretty clear now. I Oh yeah, of course I have some noise being on a portable with a long antenna. Got some noise. Yeah, yeah, we're getting, uh, I'm getting the feedback off the repeater pretty good. Um, yeah, we're running about 25 watts. So I guess we got her fixed. Now we start up with HF stuff. I'll bet I could reach you direct with this thing, but I don't know how hard it is to put a frequency in it. Hey, you faded out there. Your signal was great, but your voice kind of faded away there. I said I, uh, I could probably reach you direct. We could go reverse, uh, but let me try to put a frequency in. Hang on a second.

Speaker A: N7CND, Las Vegas.
Speaker B: WBCJKV Mobile, deadly safe.
Speaker A: System 19, link up.
Speaker B: Hey Mike, how you doing?
Speaker A: Long time no talk. What you been up to?
Speaker B: You know, same old, same old, busy. Just about the heat, man. 91 degrees. I checked the weather app and it's 71 at home over on the coast of Pacific. I said, oh, can't wait to get there.
Speaker A: Yeah, my car says 95 and that's supposed to hit 100 tomorrow, I think.
Speaker B: Yeah, you guys are used to that stuff though, man. Not a coast sider. This stuff just kicks my ass.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's a little early for us though. It's been so freaking weird, man. Up and down, up and down. One week we're in the 60s, the next week we're in the 90s. But I got to, uh, when I get home tonight, I'm gonna change and get my evaporative cooler running. So I run that until I hit monsoon season. Keeps the Nevada energy out of my pocketbook.
Speaker B: Absolutely, man. Yeah, we used to have a place up at the lake, at Lake Berryessa. We had a swamp cooler on the roof. Hey, it kind of made it feel like it was cooler. Yeah, it was 100 degrees outside, so that and a margarita, it seemed to work.
Speaker A: Yeah, you know, I found that even when it gets up to 110, it'll work fine as long as the humidity stays down. Once we hit monsoon season, season, it's game over, and I gotta flip on the air conditioner.
Speaker B: Fortunately, I think the humidity around here is like in the mid-30s. That's not too bad. But yeah, you're right, when it's 70, 80%, and it's just more of a torture, man.
Speaker A: Well, shit, for us, 30, 35% is monsoon season. Typically we're down in the single digits, but Shit, anyway, other than that, I gotta get to some mountaintops, man. We had a bad winter on our big peaks. Got up on our upper Potisius side, I think we may have lost an antenna, a Super Station Master, and lost a radio up at Angel Peak, one of our other big sites. And I got a microwave dish I gotta replace that we use for our all-star backhaul between two mountains. So a lot of crap, just not a lot of time to get up there and do it. But I got to start planning. I got a, I got a lot of trips I'm making over the next month, so I'm kind of buried with work and even on the weekends for until about the middle of April. But then I think I'll be able to make some time. And with the warm weather, the snow's pretty much off the hilltop, so I think we're good.
Speaker B: The woods up in the northern Sierras and the central Sierras, uh, yeah, that snow is going to be melting in a hurry. That's going to create another problem in itself.
Speaker A: Yeah, just checked the temperature on Angel Peak, which is our highest rock here in the southern part of the state, is 65 degrees. So Yep, melting quick.
Speaker B: All right, man, I'm going to get on the horn and give the wifey a ring. Otherwise, you know, she's licensed, she could pick up and jump on here, but nope. Yeah, you know, women are funny. Ah, I got to love them. All right, see you, Ralph. I'm going to be over the WB6JKV Mobile, I'm about 10 minutes from home here.
Speaker A: All right, yeah, thanks for the shout. Yeah, my wife's got a license too, but she's not too much, which is whatever. Okay, have a good one, be safe. N7T ending.

Speaker A: It's kind of toasty over here. Got a bit of a breeze now, so it's not too bad, but got into the high 80s, mid to high 80s, I believe.
Speaker B: Yeah, it wasn't bad, but, ah, I'm not looking forward to Summertime. Yeah, I don't know if I like the heat better than the cold, but, uh, the heat up here is brutal.
Speaker A: Yeah, it's a very dry heat usually. Uh, I would say we had a pretty mild winter this go-round. It wasn't, uh, wasn't too bad.
Speaker B: Well, I guess winter's over then. Now we're going to head into heat.
Speaker A: I believe winter's over. I'm not 100% sure. I'm not up on the spring solstice and all that stuff. Yeah, it does look like we probably get a little bit of rain here or there, but it ain't going to be anything like it should have been during the time it should have been. But anyway, done with another work day.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, and then one more day and you're finished with the week. What about this weekend? You going to do anything? Take your, uh, boat out to the lake or something.
Speaker A: Uh, I don't go on boats. I joined the Army, not the Navy. My brother's got a little pin boat here.
Speaker B: He's like, you should go out there with your big body and me.
Speaker A: I think we'd probably tip over.
Speaker B: Hey, if you know somebody with a little boat or something What you do is you come up and you say, hey, I hear you're getting a new boat. Your wife says you're getting a little dinghy.
Speaker A: Hey, there you go. Yeah, they probably would say that too. Oh yeah, I can't swim, so I don't like water at all or boats or anything like that.
Speaker B: I can barely make it in the pool. I'm a sinker, you know. Try to swim and I just go to the bottom.
Speaker A: I used to love going swimming, but I don't like going to the public pool anymore. Too many young kids running around getting in your way, bumping into you, and God knows who's utilize that facility. They shouldn't, but people still do.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, it's, uh, relieve the bladder. You're in there with that stuff all over your face.
Speaker A: I know over here, uh, the lifeguards would, uh, I think at like the noon break or whatever, they would check the the chlorine levels in the pool with their little test kits and make adjustments. I'm like, you're letting a young kid make adjustments to the toxic chemical? That's smart. Sometimes, uh, get done and my eyes would just be bright red because they would just put too much chlorine and it was horrible.
Speaker B: Oh, I was just gonna say, have you ever lived somewhere where the tap water It's just full of chlorine so bad that you can't drink it.
Speaker A: I want to say Yuba City was like that, at least when I would go shopping as a kid. We'd go get a drink of water at the fountain and it was quite heavy on the bleach. But, uh, and occasionally here in Colusa, you turn the tap on, it's either brown or bleachy.
Speaker B: Yeah, I've lived in a couple places. American Canyon, California had bad water, but my My son lived in Santa Monica for a while. You think, yeah, Santa Monica, you know, metropolitan area. Oh God, all you had to do is just turn on the tap and it's— ew, man, the smell of whatever it was. Bleach?
Speaker A: Well, you think about it, I mean, look how old the infrastructure for the water delivery to the houses are. You tell me those pipes are clean? They're probably rusted and fowl and whatnot. And here we are drinking it.
Speaker B: Hey, I had the plumber who I was paying to do some stuff here, he said don't drink the water. I said, what? He said, man, get bottled water or something else, you know, Hambro, whatever, but, uh, don't drink tap water.
Speaker A: I usually don't. I have a Zero Water filter. It's kind of like Brita but better, I guess. And, uh, it seems to work pretty good. I can get a month out of using it. It sits right there on the countertop and you just reach over the top of it and have at it. But anyway, I have just finished with my rather long or short, depending on how you look at it, commute, and I'm going to go inside and anyway, Pete, good hearing you out there. N6IWH, K6PGY, 73.
Speaker B: All right, we'll catch you later on down the coax. K6PGY, N6IWH, I'll be listening.
