This is KG6K Lester, located west of Willowson, your net control station for the Golden Empire Amateur Radio Society. Net. This net beats each Tuesday evening at 1930 hours through the W6RC repeater for the purpose of fellowship and public service through amateur radio. This is a direction to and face pay no transmissions unless invited by that control when checking in, give your name, your call and your qth. Enter city station with emergency or priority traffic. Please come now. After roll calls complete, we'll have a spot shapement, so get your list together. While we're doing announcements to check in, are there any announcements for the net? KN6 Pww. Go ahead, Jerry. I do have a few announcements for the net tonight. First tomorrow April or I'm sorry, March 25th at 6pm their usual weekly CW class. That's at the Golden Beaver still house and tasting room, I think it's called on park and Myers. So that's. That's always a good one. I'm gonna take a break between announcements here. Please. Id. Thank you. Continuing Saturday, this Saturday, March 28th, there will be a soldering class and QRP Labs build that is going to be at Tectos at 2115 Park Avenue in Chico. It's a little tricky to find the place. It's kind of, kind of round back. But they've got a real nice setup there. And there will be, like I said, soldering class. And those of you that got the QRP labs kits be working on them there also. Later that Same day on March 28, the Gears Poda will be held at 2pm at the Bidwell Sacramento river park on River Road in Chico. That's 11843 River Road in Chico. Weather should be unusually fantastic for this time of year. So show up break again. And continuing. Last one for now, there's ham exams. Ham exams are coming up at the Elks lodge on Sunday, April 5th. So you guys want to upgrade, start studying now. Shouldn't be too tough. I'm sorry. Is there anyone else with announcement? Katie Six Lok. Go ahead. Thank you. Saturday, March 28th is also the Loomis Ham Fest out in Loomis, California. Starting next month, starting April 7, the ears net will be held on the Gears west repeater. So we're changing repeaters next month. Thank you. Will that be. Will that be changed on the web page? KD6LOK. Any comments on that? Thank you for reminding me. I'll notify the webmaster. All right, is there anyone else announcements? All right, it's time for swap segment in. Is there anyone that has anything they want to sell, trade one or give away? If so, give your name, your calling and your telephone number. 86 Lok. Go ahead. Thank you. I'm probably going to get myself inundated with a bunch of equipment here, but I'm looking for a very small rotor. I got a little 2 meter beam that I put up and it's not going to take much to turn it. But I've got some, some looky loos already, offers and stuff. So I wonder if someone's got a very small rotor out there. KD6LOK@IV W H E E L E R@att.net that's Roman numeral four wheeler@att.net 530-873-9287 thank you. Is anyone else? Appreciate it. You know, today I was out on my motorcycle riding. Riding part of the Wildflower bicycle ride route. Doing radio checks on the way. That's something I actually like doing either on my bicycle or motorcycle. Stop in the middle of nowhere and see if I can make a cuso. I didn't get any comebacks today. I was checking to see what repeaters I could hit. But I'll tell you what. From up on Table Mountain, I could not hit gears east, but I got gears west. Was. That was pretty good anyway. Oh, yeah, speaking of Wildflower, I still have five positions to fill. So I'm gonna send out harassment email tonight. Want to get those positions filled. It's a good time. It's a. It's kind of a long day, but it's a. But it's a good time out there. Helping out of the bike ride, that is. April 26 so look for that mail tonight and sign up. That's it for me. KN6TWW back to control. All right, Jimmy, thank you. K6EST, this is Jim. K6EST in Chico. And I've been experimenting making different types of J. Paul antennas. I tried one with using copper foil instead of wire on the outside of a PVC tube. And it works surprisingly well. It really broadens out the bandwidth on the antenna. Anyway, that's it. Back to you, Jim. Thank you. KG60K. Your old scholar role is KF6NCX. This is KF6NCX. Larry and Chico. Good evening, Lester and the rest of the Net. Well, I've been enjoying this great weather. Doesn't get much better than this, so we'll enjoy it while it lasts. Had kind of a disappointing experience on the net last weekend on the bands. I mean, there were a couple of contests, most notably the Virginia Cuso party, which I thought was going to be pretty good and just wasn't hearing very many stations. And there was also one of these random Graham Morse code events going on and just not hearing much. In fact, the bands were completely empty, most almost. And it was like that on Saturday. And disappointingly it was kind of of like that on Sunday. I guess solar storms were to blame. But by Monday things were back in shape and everything was back to normal. So I was glad about that. And I was thinking before the nav that there wasn't going to be much to report in the way of contests this weekend. That it's a slow time. But then I looked at the contest calendar and realized I was wrong. One of the biggest contests of all is happening this weekend. Single side band contest. The CQ Worldwide WPX contest runs from 5pm Friday to 4:59 on Sunday. So hopefully the bands will cooperate for that. The exchange is just your signal report, RS and serial number, whichever contact it is, starting with number one. So that should be fun. I'll drop this for a second and get long winded here. There's also something I got kind of faked out because I saw on the calendar something called the Bill Wendell QSO Party. And I wondered how that was. That's some weird thing that doesn't sound interesting. But then I looked more closely this evening and it's a Morse code contest. Runs from Friday evening to Saturday evening. And it used to be called the First Class Operators Contest. QSO Party. Excuse me. And the First Class Operators Club is a pretty exclusive Morse code club. You have to be invited to join. You can't apply. And supposedly just the very best operators and they'd have these contests and they were only for the members. But then somebody might have complained or I'm not sure why, but they started having the First Class Operators Club Cuso party in March and I think there's another one later on and anybody can take part, even people who aren't first class operators. And now I see they've changed the name to the Bill Wendell Cuso Party and I think Bill Windle was one of the organizations organizers of the club long ago because in the contest people send CQBW cqbw Bill Wendell's initial so, so that's going to be going on and I'll mention one last thing. Sorry for yammering so much, but this, this weekend is the Africa All Mode DX contest from 5am Saturday to 5pm Sunday. And it looks like it should be good, but I don't, I've checked a few times and there just doesn't seem to be any activity. And on the contest calendar there's a little note that says status active but no recent results. So apparently it's not, not too popular for whatever reason. Okay, Lester, back to you. This is Larry, KF6NCX. Larry, thank you very much. All right, Bill, KN6KC6UFE C6UFE. Bill in Cape Good evening to the group and well, I've been chasing a little DX recently station on a place called Sable island someplace off the eastern coast of Nova Scotia up there in the boonies as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, those guys are under a couple of feet of ice these days. And so it's a island on the air thing. And one thing, you know, they, they operate FT8 and all the other FTs and single sideband and also CW and I think they do some ready as well. But anyway, the difference between the single sideband and the CW is quite dramatic. And I like SS contacts and but with SSB there's always this group of knuckleheads that hang out on the frequency that the station transmits on and they've just gotta irritate everybody and think they're in charge of the fools that.

2026-03-25 02:50:09 UTC 384.3s · GEARS E TX (146.850 MHz)

Or forgot to hit their skip button. And so they really irritate everyone. And with cw, they can't do that. And so all they can do is send the CW code letter U&P for up. And so you'll hear a bunch of up, but that's it. They don't get to call anybody any bad names. So I do take my shot at cw and every now and then they'll hear me. Not very often, though. So anyway, that's what I've been up to. And back to you, Lester. KC6UFE, Bill. Thank you. Talented. Risky. All right, Russ. KK6TSM. Good evening, Lester. I've got nothing to report. Just listening in today and, and trying to get more active with the club. All right, well, thanks for checking in and thanks for sticking around WA6 spy. Glenn. Yeah, it's WA7 spy. Make sure it's a seven. And yeah, this is Glenn and I've been getting ready to play with a paraset radio. I'm going to build one like they used to have the World War II spy radios for 20 and 40 meters with a Regan receiver. It's a regenerative receiver, so it'll be a simple tube radio and it'll go back old school. It'll be kind of fun to put that project together and see what I can do with it with qrp. And as trustee of the repeater, you keep probably seeing that the east repeater is still under re coordination. And I think it's only going to be a couple, three more weeks and it'll go back to being coordinated. It's been on the list quite a while and the reason they do that is they post on the list with narc just to make sure nobody's going to complain and nobody has. So it should get coordinated here soon. Good day. Anyway, that's it. WA7 spy. All right. And by the way, I did have a 7 written in there. I guess when you get to just calling out numbers, you sometimes go by road. Anyway, you said it nice and slow for me and I wrote it down right. So I do appreciate it. Is there anyone else before we close? KS6TWW, a quick comment. Go ahead, Jamie. Hey, Glenn, it's good to hear you on the air and good to hear the repeater report as well. Yep, that, that's about it. Good to hear that we're going to get back in coordination. K at 60 WW. Yeah, control, can I make a quick comment? All right, this is Kuzik all the Empire Amateur Ready Society Net, and I'd like to thank everybody who checked in tonight and invite you back next week. This is KG6KUO returning the W6 rec repeater to its normal monitoring service. This is an SNET is closed at 2153. KG6KU. Observe. Still there, Jamie. WA7 spy. 60 WW. So, anyway, I'm happy. It was a good day for me. I moved my flagpole antenna around to where I can get the coax in my. Where my radios are. And I was able to get a dual band radio set up in my office. So I should be able to monitor a little more now. Oh, very nice. You might check on the 1.25 meter access as well. Hey, can I maybe come on over sometime? I'll give you a call. I want to. I really want to see your antenna set up. Sure, yeah. Anytime. I'm. I'm usually home most these days, so just give me a call and come on by. Oh, man, I appreciate it. I got to jump to another net GMRs so kn6tww. I'm clear. Have a good night. Jamie. Wa7 spy clear. This is Jerry, KO6KKW. I need a radio check. I've been told there's quite a bit of hum on my carrier. How do I sound over. Kf6mcx? Larry and chico. Yeah, there is a pretty big hum. All right, thank you. I've got a switching power supply without a battery and there's a. I can change the frequency of the supply, but that's about it. So. All right, thank you. I'll keep working on that. Hey, good luck. This is KF6NCX. Clear. Good luck with that. Also, I'm using a Linko power supply with no battery also. But I haven't heard any complaints about a hum yet, so good luck with that. KD6. I'm okay. Thank you. This is KO6 KKW. You have a little bit of home, but it's very acceptable. Okay, I'm out.

Hey Jim. K6EST, this is Jerry. KO6KKW. Do you have a second to chat? Go ahead, Jerry. I would like to be able to monitor my signal. I have a handheld, but it overloads pretty bad even with just a rubber ducky. Is there a way I can reduce the signal? I need to use the higher power on the, on the mobile so that it produces the hum that you're hearing on low power. There's no hum. So it's ripple from the power supply. But I cannot monitor it myself that I know of. Can you help me with that? Probably not. You're going to. You'll find that, you know, if you're trying to monitor the repeater while you're using a bigger radio with the handheld, the handheld is going to get overwhelmed and not be receiving, which has been my experience. If you're worried about the hum, do you, do you have a multimeter or volta meter? I have meter and scope. I haven't actually measured how much peak to peak it is, but I know it's there. Yeah. Put the meter in AC mode and then read across the DC output and it will show you the AC component which is the hum. Get back to basics a little bit there. Well, thank you. I'm gonna have to monitor that, try to improve it. I'll get a battery in the circuit and I'm sure that'll help too. K06KKW thank you. Well, if you switch over to battery power whenever you transmit, then yeah, there won't. They shouldn't be any hum. As far as the power supply, you know, hum is usually. What type of power supply is it? It's a 15amp switcher. Switching power supplies usually have no hum because of the design of them. So it's hard for me to know what's up. I've never troubleshot a switching power supply. Yeah, I've worked on them before. This one, you can actually change the frequency a little bit. It's a B tech but the switching frequency doesn't seem to affect the hum. Yeah, the whole idea of a switching power supply is you run the frequency up, you know, instead of regular power supply is, is, is rectifying 60 Hz, whereas you run the frequency up to, you know, a kilohertz or something and then, you know, it's real easy to filter out that, that ripple. But heck, I don't know what to tell you. Thank you very much, Jim. I'll keep working on it. Ko6kkw all right, good luck and we're going to have some power supplies the next time we do a gears auction. So Maybe that'll help. K6 Estate.
